Host Announcement

1 - Just a reminder that the first cutoff will be in one and a bit days, so make sure to be ready for the start. The cutoff for groups A-D will be 0600-0800 UTC on Tuesday 29th September, and the cutoff for groups E-H will be 0700-1000 UTC on the same day.

2 - We have a roster penalty. Make sure you have submitted your rosters in time for the second match day. There is no penalty for not posting your roster before the first cutoff, but from the second cutoff there will be a penalty to your KPB rank if you have not posted a roster.

The roster penalty will go as such:
MD1: No penalty.
MD3: 10% KPB loss.
MD5: 20% KPB loss.
MD7: 30% KBP loss.
Ro32: 40% KPB loss.
Ro16: 50% KPB loss.
The roster penalty will be immediately reversed as soon as you post a roster. So if you posted a roster after MD5, you would have had a 20% KPB loss on MD5, but would have your rank restored (so no penalty) for MD7. The penalty would not reduce your KPB ranking by more than 50%.

3 - The other reminder is that if you so wish, we have public RP bonus available meaning you are able to see how your RPs have been graded. All you have to do is send a TG or PM on discord to your host (so A-D to Sylestone, E-H to Ethane) requesting your RP bonuses. You'll be able to see the grade given to each RP you request to see. Only you can see your own RP bonuses; no one else will be able to see what was given to your RPs and vice versa.

Thanks, and good luck to everyone participating in this Cup of Harmony. We look forward to reading your RPs.

- Ethane and Sylestone

Esportivan and Proud.
<drawk> If the entirety of the nation of Ethane was covered in a single cubic foot of Ethane on its surface, lighting it all on fire would cause a 5.44 megaton blast.
Best WorldVision Finish: 2nd. Best World Cup Finish: Quarter-Finals. Best KPB Rank: 8th. Best WBC Finish: 1st.

Twicetagrien Premier League: A Beautiful Backstory
by Antonov Vasilyev

We've done it! After so much research and hard work, we've reached the last two teams of the entire league. Hooray for us! Coincidence or not, the teams we have in store have a beautiful story behind them. Please welcome Afrodita Kelenikas and FK Chudesnyy!
Some foreground: Afrodita Kelenikas was founded by a Greek community in Kelenikas, a small city 45 miles west of Sranchies. Since the town's patron god was Aphrodite they named the club after her, albeit with a romanised Russian spelling. The club has gone on to report sightings of Aphrodite herself on the pitch during the game, and they claim that her divine guidance is what led them to the top flight.
FK Chudesnyy was founded by a father whose son had died of cancer. His son was an aspiring goalkeeper who would have been the same level and age as Cho. Motivated to make a team for those who suffered from crises like these, his father founded FK Chudesnyy, which means Wonderful. Reportedly a rich billionaire took notice and bought the club, bringing it to where they are today.

Afrodita Kelenikas

What's the narrative in 20 words?
A generally okay showing from the recently-promoted side, they'll need to show that they deserve to be here this season.

How did last season go for them?
The newly-promoted side escaped by the skin of their teeth, staying just by 1 goal(for) to Estrellya Danuya FK, their fellow promoted side. They've strengthened their side by buying some budget stars from lower leagues, but whether they can adapt to Prem life remains to be seen.

Got any interesting stats from last season?
Kelenikas scored the least goals of the season, with 0.35 goals per game. Weird, since they play with a CF and CAM.

Any transfer news?
Kelenikas have bought absolute bargains from the lower leagues, with the likes of Raichov and Belinett being chased by top clubs.
In: Raichov, Balinett, Schurran, Mailmscu, Khaidra
Out: Fedorov, Noyetarr, Misha

Fun fact about the manager?
Danilov Karumoniv is Kelenikas' goalie with the most clean sheets.

Where will they hope to finish?
Despite what Kelenikas fans think, we doubt their new signings will bolster them anywhere further up the table. It is most likely that they escape relegation this time round.

Our Verdict: 14th

FK Chudesnyy
Image

What's the narrative in 20 words?
Yet another surprise package in the case of FK Chudesnyy, only 3 seasons after they were promoted they go 8th.

How did last season go for them?
A widely talented side brought them to the top half of the table. Racking in the goals, as well as defending very well has helped the Wonders.

Got any interesting stats from last season?
They have hit the post 4 times in 5 separate occasions last season. Ouch.

Any transfer news?
Despite their amazing squad, guess what Chudesnyy has done? That's right, sold ALL of them away to top teams. Them being in a financial crisis may be the basis for this, but you don't need to sell all of your good players just to get money.
In: NIL
Out: Namin, Mazepin, Koulouris, Jeremys, Aidor, Maelorus

Fun fact about the manager?
Weirdly enough, Paul Blyanko used to be a basketball player. He then began to pursue a football career as a goalkeeper, playing for Chudesnyy's reserve team for 3 years before retiring. He then got a coaching license and here he is.

Where will they hope to finish?
Despite selling all of their good players, Chudesnyy doesn't look like a type of team that would be fighting relegation.

Our Verdict: 11th

The Sarzonian national football team received its group draw for its second appearance in the Cup of Harmony in three cycles. Unlike the first appearance, these Stars will be the group heavyweights, but Stars manager Kevin Connelly has just the thing to keep his team from getting too big for its britches.

Their opening match is against Yuezhou, a team that entered World Cup qualifying unranked, but took four of a possible six points against the Stars, and, some fans specifically blame them for keeping the Stars out of the World Cup proper.

"That's a team that played us very tough in both matches" Connelly said, adding that Sarzonia had other problems besides a 0-1-1 record against Yuezhou that prevented them from what some fans would call their rightful spot in the proper.

"We didn't do a good job in figuring out their midfield trap," playmaking midfielder Brady Reynolds said. "And defensively, we had too many breakdowns against them."

The frustration led to Reynolds drawing yellow cards against Yuezhou and being suspended for yellow card accumulation, an absence this Stars team can ill afford. Reynolds said the team was spending more time on the trap and looking for ways to overcome it.

"We have to find an answer for that trap," midfielder and team captain Clayton Wilson said. "Other teams are going to use it against us unless we find out how to get past it."

Goaltender Carlton Sandt said the team had no choice but to be ready.

"It's either that or we go home early," he said.

After Yuezhou, the Stars face another familiar opponent, this time TJUN-ia, whom the Stars controversially defeated 4-3 after trailing 3-1 in a match marred by questionable officiating on Matchday 2. Following TJUN-ia, the Stars have matches against Mavinet, then wrap up the group stage with Zeta Reka and Hugeltadom, Barunia, and Rangers FC. The Stars get their bye on Matchday 7.

The Astograthian National Football Team

Image
All white away, all olive green home, all blue third

Style: -2
Formation: 4-2-3-1, see below for potential variations
Nickname: Olibondeka (The Olives)
Captain: Indartsu Lekea
Vicecaptain: Mogel Doyenard
Free Kick Taker: Azeari Duarte
Penalty Kick Taker: Azeari Duarte

Manager - Image Louis Vaudrail (Sicoutimont) - Age 67
Louis Vaudrail has had a storied managerial career, and as his last job before retirement has taken charge of the Astograthian national team since the start of World Cup 85. Once manager of Nordique Val-Maurice in his homeland of Sicoutimont, Vaudrail's first experience in Astograth was many years ago with Gesterlake FC, where a talented squad that included Sicoutian NT forward Georges Allonts took the club to heights never seen before or since, including qualification to the Globe Cup. In the relaunched Astograthian First Division, his success at Athletic Club Olarria landed him the job at the powerful Royal Rumiatzi where, in 4 seasons at the club, he won a Royal Cup and a long-awaited league title.

Vaudrail is Astograth's third foreign manager history, after the successful tenure of World Cup Hall of Famer Powell Pieran, from Civil Citizenry, and the less successful spell of Sir James Handel, from Yesopalitha. The team's performance in World Cup 85 qualifying, coming out of Pot 11 to finish 4th and nearly qualified, followed by a semi-final run at Cup of Harmony 77, branded Vaudrail's tenure an early success, with pundits and players attributing their game to the manager's meticulous, months-in-advance preparation for fixtures. What followed was a poor showing at Copa Rushmori 35, held in Astograth itself, and a lacklustre WC86 qualifying campaign that saw the team finish fourth despite being the third seed. Expectations have been tempered, but Vaudrail will, at the least, have to avoid embarrassment at this Cup of Harmony in order to regain some of that public goodwill.

In terms of squad selection, the team is about evenly split between domestic and foreign-based players, and the only change between qualifying and this tournament is the dropping of Zilar Galharretborde in favour of Anartz Salayeta.

Vaudrail will most likely line up with a flexible 4-2-3-1 formation, with two defensive midfielders and wingers that can be shifted up or down the pitch as the situation demands. Though having shot up from 303rd to 58th in the KPB rankings in the span of one cycle, Astograth are still well outside the elite. Therefore, Vaudrail will be maintaining their conservative, possession-minded approach. If facing opposition against whom possession can't be achieved, then the plan will likely be to fall back into a 4-2-3-1 diamond and play for counter-attacks. If feeling adventurous, the team may change into a standard 4-4-2 or 4-4-2 diamond may be deployed - Vaudrail has plenty of talented players on the bench which to experiment with.

Assistant Manager - Image Ibai Kiriano - Age 49
Second all-time top scorer for the national team, with 56 goals in 107 appearances, Ibai Kiriano was a formidable striker in his day, even winning the UICA Champions' Cup with Ituraitz FC. Now in management, formerly as assistant to failed NT boss Iban Bachiondo, Kiriano is enraptured with Vaudrail's approach to the game and does his all to ensure the players are following the Sicoutian's carefully laid out plans.

Starting XI:

#1 - GK – Gentza Bedigax - Age 31 - Image FC Felsenkirchen 1879 (Siovanija and Teusland) - 26 caps, 11 clean sheets
Bedigax initially impressed in the Astograthian First Division by being one of the reasons that the unfancied Erribe United remained in the top flight during their début season, and continued that form at Urbizania Wanderers by winning the league and consistently being one of the least-beaten keepers in the competition. Now playing for one of Siovanija and Teusland's top teams and with a full qualifying campaign under his belt, he has established himself as a worthy heir to the number 1 shirt.

#5 - LB – Marko Martel - Age 24 – Image Lajuno (Eura) - 38 caps, 2 goals
Martel is one of Astograth's most exciting players. Bursting onto the scene at just 18 years old, he was part of Sporting Ibarguren's Royal Cup-winning team, beating Urbizania Wanderers in the final despite being a second-tier side. Swiftly transferred to giants Sporting Iturributa, he was part of a league-winning squad but, frustrated at the lack of playing time, forced his move to Athletic Club Olarria, where more strong performances earned him a place on the national team and on the famous Galácticos shortlist. Nothing if not ambitious, he has now secured a move to the Euraleague and displaced Remondegi as starter for Olibondeka - how much farther can he go?

#2 - CB - Mogel Doyenard (VC) - Age 30 – Image Sporting Iturributa - 71 caps, 5 goals
Doyenard is, by consensus, the best Astograthian defender currently playing. Sporting Iturributa are on a seemingly unstoppable run of three league titles in a row; the key to that is their impenetrable defence, from which they build and control the match. Doyenard has been the core of that defence for nearly a decade, and commands respect throughout the league. Measuring 193 cm, he's also a valuable asset in attacking corners, especially when the opposition proves hard to beat in open play.

#18 - CB - Ugaitz Leskerre - Age 31 - Image Lajuno (Eura) - 55 caps
Despite a low public profile, Leskerre has established himself in one of the best leagues in the world at Eura's Lajuno, which has a proud tradition of sourcing Astograthian talent. Having also played for Pasarga's Paulinthal FC, Leskerre's international club experience is a valuable asset for a squad that has, for the most part, little exposure to the best teams and players in the multiverse. His partnership with Doyenard has developed into one of the team's most important components.

#16 - RB – Ixaka Echeberz - Age 28 - Image AC Izotz Zubia (Audioslavia) – 31 caps, 1 goal
Echeberz is a solid, reliable player who can stay in defense or move forward into a more modern wing-back role. An important player for Urbizania Wanderers, his performances for the national team have caught the eye of the powerful Izotz Zubia, securing him an unexpected transfer to the Audioslavian National League. This has also convinced Vaudrail of giving him the starting spot ahead of the more experienced Cheru Lizarza - can Echeberz live up to the now massive expectations on his shoulders, or will the pressure be too much?

#14 - DM – Indartsu Lekea (C) - Age 31 - Image AFC Corvistone (Nephara) - 65 caps, 4 goals
Lekea has had a successful career away from Astograthian shores, after departing from Athletic Club Rumiatzi while still a teenager. Previously at Apox's Barbury Town, he is one of two Astograthian players plying his trade in the top-ranked Nepharan Premiership. With his extensive experience outside the country, something generally lacking in the rest of the team, Lekea has the squad and the manager's confidence to serve as captain of the team, taking over from the retired Baleren Narke. He'll be expected to be the primary agent in stopping attacks through the middle, backing up Gurina in controlling possession through the middle of the pitch

#6 - DM - Gaitzka Gurina - Age 27 - Image Sporting Iturributa - 46 caps, 4 goals
Gurina has established himself over the last few years as a key player for Astograth and Sporting Iturributa. Coming out of the youth system of Ituraitz Victory, Gurina has proven to be dogged in defense and cerebral in attack, and Vaudrail has singled him out as the team's metronome and crucial to the success of the 4-2-3-1 formation. His first team status above the likes of the more veteran Beltza Urkizo caused some rather public drama in the team's previous cycle, with Urkizo accusing that a posse from Sporting has too much influence in the squad. True or not, he's out of Olibondeka.

#11 - LM - Iraunkor Berdesagar - Age 31 - Image Scaffield (Brenecia) - 52 caps, 7 goals
A product of East Railway's youth system, Berdesagar left the country in search of better opportunities and found it in Brenecia's Gallant Cross. He stuck them through thick and thin, including several years in the second tier, before earning a move to Scaffield. Despite stiff competition, Berdesagar has earned and maintained a starting spot on Olibondeka, as both a capable midfielder and a serious attacking threat. Able to play on the left or right wings or as a central attacking midfielder, Berdesagar can be a chameleon on the pitch, confounding anyone sent to man-mark him.

#10 - RM – Ihazintu Malkorra - Age 29 - Image Aries Chariots (Nephara) – 51 caps, 8 goals
Malkorra, voted three times best right winger in the First Division, was a youth product of Miners FC before signing with Royal Association and eventually cross-town rivals Sporting Iturributa, emerging as one of Astograth's brightest talents - his dribbling is mesmerising, and can flow freely from center midfield to the back to up on attack as the situation requires. In the Nepharan Premiership, he was one of the bright spots in Vermillion Wanderers' relegation season, earning himself a move to Aries Chariots.

#8 - AM – Azeari Duarte - Age 32 - Image Royal Rumiatzi – 55 caps, 10 goals
Duarte is widely recognised as the best creative player in the Astograthian league and chief architect of Royal Rumiatzi's successes over the past decade. Over the years he has demonstrated immense vision in providing assists and occasionally get himself on the scoresheet as well. His partnership with Urdanibia at club and international level is one of Astograth's greatest assets. Duarte is one of the team's most media-present faces, and carries a lot of pressure on his back.

#9 - CF - Aire Epherra - Age 31 - Image Urbizania Wanderers – 16 caps, 8 goals
The international retirement of Astograth's former no. 9, Yasone Urdanibia, led Vaudrail to make a bold call-up: Urbizania Wanderers' long-serving striker, Aire Epherra. A regular in the Astograthian First Divisions' top scorer charts, Epherra is a tall, burly, clinical target man skilled at spearheading counter-attacks and holding up the ball to play in his teammates, and will do all he can to solidify himself as the premier Astograthian forward. With 8 goals in 16 caps (baby), Olibondeka’s top scorer in the qualifiers is well on his way.

Substitutes:

#13 - GK – Bihar Raldua - Age 27 - Image Ituraitz FC – 2 caps, 1 clean sheet
Raldua was called up to the national team for the disastrous World Cup 83 qualifying campaign, where Astograth finished bottom of the table without a single win. He didn't earn any caps there which, on the upside, means he can't take responsibility for those results. He sat out the last cycle due to Aurre Laurnagaray replacing him as third keeper, but now back on the squad Raldua is hoping his superior club-level pedigree can count for something.

#23 - GK – Arano Ilaria - Age 24 - Image Blue Mountain Range – 1 cap
BMR are well known for their effective defence, but this is often attributed to their parking the bus rather than having especially talented defensive players. This season, there has been no doubt that goalkeeper Arano Ilaria played a big role in their performance, and he has quickly caught the attention of Vaudrail and bigger clubs, earning him a call-up as third keeper.

#4 - LB - Urre Remondegi - Age 31 - Image Urbizania Wanderers - 41 caps, 1 goal
Three-time best left-back of the First Division, Remondegi first caught the eye playing for Oyardo FC, later making his way to Ituraitz FC. Gorriaka went on to clinch the club's record-breaking ninth league title and the Royal Cup in their centenary year, prompting Wanderers to make a big-money bid for Remondegi, where he's continued to perform at a high level. Resilient and dynamic, he's a versatile player that can play from the back, further up the wing or even shifted to defensive midfield if required. Displaced to the bench in favour of rising star Marko Martel, but still a quality option.

#12 - CB - Alarabi Labeaga - Age 23 - Image Mâ Âlâmëómë (Farfadillis) - 10 caps
An impetuous young talent, Labeaga came through the youth ranks of Urbizania Wanderers, rapidly making his way to the first team at age 18 and featuring in their title-winning run of 680. Vaudrail, then manager of Royal Rumiatzi, arranged their purchase of Labeaga but was unable to control the centre-back's ego and demands for a starting spot. Forcing a move abroad, he was able to land at the renowned Mâ lâmëómë of Farfadillis and immediately won a league title. Now believes himself to be God's gift to defending and truly is too talented to be denied a call-up by Vaudrail, but starters Doyenard and Leskerre are strongly entrenched in the team and Labeaga could prove a disruptive influence if he isn't brought to heel.

#3 - RB – Cheru Lizarza - Age 29 - Image Ituraitz FC - 37 caps, 1 goal
Lizarza is a solid if unspectacular full-back that initially came through at Oyardo and then moved to Eshan's Gracemeria, before returning to reinforce the most feared defense in Astograth at Sporting Iturributa. In recent years he has established himself as one of, if not the, best right-back in the Astograthian league, and controversially just let his contract expire at Sporting in order to accept Ituraitz FC's offer of mammoth wages.

#15 - DM – Domiku Bergara - Age 27 - Image AC Izotz Zubia (Audioslavia) - 10 caps
Hardworking Bergara was spotted as a sharp talent at a young age, with Urbizania Wanderers shelling out a big wad of cash to sign him from Iturributa United at age 21. Since then he's been an ever-present starter for Wanderers, taking part in their wins of a league title and a Royal Cup, but has come to believe his ceiling lies beyond the confines of the Astograthian First Division. Striking out, he's joined fellow Wanderer Ixaka Echeberz in signing for Audioslavia's AC Izotz Zubia, and now finds himself on Olibondeka with a huge chance to make his mark. An elegant, patient player skilled in both defence and with the ball, he can be a good substitute for either Lekea or Gurina.

#21 - CM - Baraxil Muhaburu - Age 23 - Image Rülândéá Kôstä (Farfadillis) - 7 caps
A youth product of Garitzeta Racing Club, Muhaburu was set to break into the first team when Racing took a deep dive into the Second DIvision. Setting his sights elsewhere, Muhaburu landed in Farfadillis, signing for Rülândéá Kôstä and integrating quite seamlessly into the squad as they marched to Challengers' Cup qualification. Despite his reputation for poor attitude and off-pitch antics, Vaudrail is eager to take advantage of Muhaburu’s excellent vision and passing technique, and ability to get forward to score or take set pieces.

#17 - LM - Koldo Ibargengoitia - Age 28 - Image Usmer (Eura) - 29 caps, 2 goals
An exciting winger who can be played out wide, made to cut inside or, in a pinch, deployed in centre midfield. Capable of scoring but far better as a creative outlet. Signed for Eura's Usmer after dazzling at Oyardo FC, Astograth University and Ituraitz FC, but has yet to truly shine for Olibondeka despite establishing himself as a reliable hand on the left wing.

#22 - AM - Gero Sorrosua - Age 32 - Image Urbizania Wanderers - 31 caps, 3 goals
There are several young, exciting attacking midfielders in Astograth, such as Antiguoko's Uzuri Borthagaray or Azeari Duarte's understudy at Royal Rumiatzi, Lon Dumon. After a disappointing Copa Rushmori and a spectacular season from Urbizania Wanderers, however, Vaudrail has decided to play it safe and call up Gero Sorrosua once again, a highly talented and proven veteran who leaves no doubt as to his suitability for the national team. A bonus is his great partnership at club level with Aire Epherra, which has so far translated well when the two play together.

#7 – CF/RM - Yokin Arana - Age 28 - Image Bayern-Algaer (Taeshan) - 28 caps, 4 goals
Formerly a key component for Iturributa United's lean goalscoring machine, Arana is now rated as one of the best forwards in the Taeshani league. Despite not being a physical player, he is quite capable of finding space in tight defenses, and is notable for seeing beyond his own boots and playing smart assists rather than going for goal himself. Left-footed and increasingly deployed as an inside forward on the right wing for Astograth, Arana is an interesting variant at Vaudrail's disposal, and has earned something of a reputation as a good substitute for the national team.

#20 - CF – Olentzaro Karazatorre - Age 24 - Image Ituraitz FC - 17 caps, 6 goals
Karazatorre, one-time winner of the First Division's Young Player award, became known to the Astograthian public at age 20 with aplomb. He banged in 13 goals in a season for the modest Antiguoko FC as they finished in 10th place, then 15 as they climbed to 8th, then 19 goals - Karazatorre has all the makings of the next great Astograthian forward, as the previous stalwarts age past 30. A strong first season with Ituraitz FC and six goals in his first qualifying campaign have seen him blossom into a solid striker – and develop a not-so-friendly rivalry with Aire Epherra.

#19 - CF – Anartz Salayeta - Age 22 - Image La Querida (Farfadillis) - Uncapped
The only casualty of the transition from qualifiers to Cup of Harmony is right winger Zilar Galharretborde, whom Vaudrail figures he can substitute with Yokin Arana. This frees up space for him to call up and test a man that the crowds clamor for: La Querida’s fan favourite Anartz Salayeta. The Farf team’s target man is tall, strong, and just about the only thing the tiny club have going for them, provoking a level of adoration rarely seen even among the football-mad Astograthians. Salayeta is also about as mobile as a tree trunk, and experts are skeptical that he’s ready for the national team. If he can score so much in the most chaotic league in the multiverse then surely he can’t be that bad for Olibondeka.

Introduction

18 games, 40 goals scored, 26 goals against, 1 manager sacking and a 4th place. It wasn't quite the dream of the playoffs Flavovespia had hoped for, nor was it the 3rd their Pot 3 status suggested, but they recovered as the qualifiers went on. Flavovespia travel to Sylestone, and potentially Ethane for their 4th appearance in the Cup of Harmony. They were in the Final 16 last time, and now with their top of Pot 2 status, will be hoping to go at least as far again.

Kit

Image
Home-Away-Third

For the first time, Flavovespia decide to roll-over a kit over consecutive World Cup cycles. The popularity of the FV design has certainly helped with this decision. The home kit is in the traditional yellow, and the double V of the flag is combined with 2 horizontal black stripes, that end in a slash. This spells out the letters FV, a nod to the nations name. The kit is finished off with a double banded collar, and cuffs. The home shorts and socks are black, with an unpictured yellow variant in the case of clashes. The away kit uses the same template, but is in a smart all-white colour. Flavovespia like to experiment with their third kit colours, and the burgundy, white and lime green remains. How many times it’ll be used remains to be seen.

Roster

(Note, all caps and goals are taken as of the end of WCQ 86)

Goalkeepers
1 Aarif Muhammad Age: 22 Position: GK Club: Stanmorn Caps: 18 Goals: 0
12 David Meehan Age: 32 Position: GK Club: Bavingtor Caps: 65 Goals: 0
23 Richard Hartwell Age: 28 Position: GK Club: Capital FC (Xanneria) Caps: 7 Goals: 0

No changes to the goalkeepers by Arnold Stevenson from the World Cup Qualifiers 86. Aarif Muhammad started all but 2 games, and despite looking a bit shaky from time to time, was a solid performance at a young age for someone with the #1 shirt. His shot saving ability is second to none amongst Flavovespians, and if he can work on the other aspects of goalkeeping, could be a generation goalkeeping talent. David Meehan, the former #1, had one start, and didn’t look as good as his replacement against Devonta. He’s still likely the second choice, but his time in the international side may draw to a close soon. Richard Hartwell did okay in his appearance in the dead rubber match against Ihilthracna in the final Matchday, and stays in the national side.

Defenders
2 Scott Vaughan Age: 30 Position: LB Club: Kings Lunsel Caps: 33 Goals: 0
3 Stephen Shepherd Age: 29 Position: RB Club: Waldster Caps: 57 Goals: 0
4 Alexander May Age: 29 Position: CB Club: Langmere Green Rovers Caps: 60 Goals: 2
5 Tony Gardner Age: 27 Position: CB Club: Kings Lunsel Caps: 99 Goals: 4
14 Iain Brown Age: 29 Position: CB Club: Syneca AC (Squornshelan Remnant States) Caps: 7 Goals: 0
15 Paul Rodwell Age: 27 Position: CB Club: Langmere Green Rovers Caps: 13 Goals: 0
16 David Blythe Age: 24 Position: RWB Club: Marthorpe City Caps: 40 Goals: 0
24 David Lyons Age: 21 Position: LB Club: Langmere Green Rovers Caps: 3 Goals: 0

At the left back position, Scott Vaughan grew into the campaign as the qualifiers rolled on. In contrast, Ronald Maddox seemed to drop off, becoming more sluggish and being punished for it by opponents. By the end, he was looking off the pace even as a substitute. Instead, for the Cup of Harmony, the young and talented left back from Langmere Green Rovers returns to the side, and he’ll look to make a good impression, Arnold Stevenson trusting his youth.

With 18 appearances from 18 matches, and 2 goals, Tony Gardner was the key defender. He’ll almost certainly reach his century next time out. Not perfect in every game, but a resolute performer, and one Flavovespia would certainly miss if he wasn’t around. The second centre back spot was up for more contention, but in the end, Alexander May seemed to win out that battle. Paul Rodwell and Iain Brown were decent enough however to return to the squad for the Cup of Harmony 78.

The right back position was closely fought, and there was much substitution here in games. However Stephen Shepherd was the slightly favoured in the end. He seemed more composed at the back, even if David Blythe looked the more spectacular. However expect both of these to at some point start the game, and to come off the bench.

Midfielders
6 David Clark Age: 25 Position: CDM Club: Langmere Green Rovers Caps: 12 Goals: 0
7 James King Age: 32 Position: CM Club: Stanmorn Caps: 104 Goals: 12
8 Valentine Richmond Age: 28 Position: CM Club: Waldster Caps: 43 Goals: 1
11 Steven Hall Age: 29 Position: RAM Club: Kings Lunsel Caps: 108 Goals: 40
18 Murad Ahmed Age: 26 Position: CM Club: Langmere Green Rovers Caps: 25 Goals: 1
19 Jonathan Feld Age: 28 Position: LM Club: Marthorpe City Caps: 79 Goals: 10
22 Christopher Ace Age: 26 Position: RM Club: St Astons City Caps: 29 Goals: 2
25 William Somers Age: 30 Position: LM Club: Loxthorpe Rovers Caps: 5 Goals: 0

A managerial change meant a change in formation, and a 4-2-3-1 was the new formation. The defensive midfield was led by James King. He is able to pass the ball and find the target with ease it seems, a great fit for the “regista” role. He was also fairly good from set pieces and showed age was just a number. Murad Ahmed partnered him a lot in the defensive midfield. He wasn’t as flashy or spectacular, but could put in a solid defensive shift. David Clark somewhat struggled at times, but showed some inspiration, and Arnold Stevenson has enough faith to keep him in the 23 man squad.

Despite speculation he was relegated to a rotation role, Jonathan Feld broke back into the squad in the left midfield position. The only one in the side who played there as a primary position, he proved that he could be an effective winger, and was able to cause problems to the opposition in plenty of games. At 28, he could also one day join the 100 caps club. William Somers is called up to replace Brian Buttery, a move to try and bring in more depth down that flank.

The centre attacking midfield role was dominated by Steven Hall. Despite being a wide attacking midfielder by trade, the Flavovespian captain was just as impressive through the middle, scoring 11 goals and creating plenty. Everpresent, he was one of the star players and a perinneal target. Valentine Richmond seemed to regress a bit, and didn’t make a big impact in any position, largely relegated to substitute appearances.

With Hall in the centre of the attacking midfield trio, Christopher Ace had the chance to get more caps than before, and he took it well. The right attacking midfielder had a great turn of pace, and several times it was his crosses that created the danger for Flavovespia. He’ll be glad to see there’s room for him in the national team setup.

Strikers
9 Ramon Martin Age: 33 Position: CF Club: Langmere Green Rovers Caps: 44 Goals: 15
10 Scott Coleman Age: 26 Position: CF Club: Stanmorn Caps: 90 Goals: 56
20 Mark Paul Age: 24 Position: CF Club: Bavingtor Caps: 3 Goals: 0
21 Marc Sharratt Age: 25 Position: CF Club: St Astons City Caps: 31 Goals: 3

Scott Coleman was dominant in the attack for Flavovespia. An incredible 19 goals in the 18 matches, and a big reason Flavovespia scored in every game, he proved all his doubters wrong who questioned if he could do it at international level continually. Furthermore he seemed (for now, fingers crossed) to have shaken off some injury doubts about him. If he plays as well in the Cup of Harmony as the qualifiers, Flavovespia could do very well.
With Coleman so dominant, and a 1 striker setup, it’s hard to truly assess the other 3 strikers. Ramon Martin did get a goal in the qualifiers, but at 33, this could be his last hurrah internationally. Marc Sharratt was occasionally a threat from off the bench, but could’ve maybe done more. Mark Paul never really had a chance to show himself, but at least he looked on the pace internationally when he did appear.

Manager
Arnold Stevenson, 46

After the sacking of Richard Crawford, Arnold Stevenson, his old assistant manager, came in as the interim manager. 10 points in 12 and he got the job for at least the end of the qualifiers. A 4th place in the group was a valiant recovery, and enough for him to get the job until at least the end of AOCAF Cup 62 under his current contract. Of course, he'll need a decent performance here to avoid an early sacking. He likes to play a 4-2-3-1 formation, and is much more keen on sticking to that and fitting players into hit. Him putting Steven Hall through the centre was a gamble that paid off, although he still has his doubters.

HUElavia are Favorites Heading into 2nd Appearance at the Cup of Harmony!

After a very erratic set of qualifiers for World Cup 86, HUElavia found themselves eliminated in Group 10, after finishing 3rd, being a point off from a potential playoff appearance. This was considered a significant failure for the National Football Team, that was coming off two straight appearances into the World Cup, 84 and 85, and was a favorite to make the Final Tournament. Despite this, the HUElavian Football Association put faith in Coach Estela Garcia Kimura, as she will lead the team in the Cup of Harmony.

Many of the players from World Cup 85 and IAC X return, including the likes of superstars Cristiano and Rossi, along with young attacking talent (and couple) of Hamada and Navarro, strong midfielder Duran (nee Ramirez) as well as the strong defenders of Nazarenko (nee Smirnov) and Amaru, and reliable goalies Lobato and Ramos (nee Vallares). Despite this, some new faces have come to the team. This includes sensational goalie Vannier, the young defensive talent of Bittencourt, and finally the debut of Sakaguchi, who along with Conti, was a strong player abroad in Kita-Hinode.

Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos are one of the solid favorites to win it all, being ranked 25th in the World Rankings, with only 23rd ranked Taeshan being better than them. The expectations are that the team makes it at least to the Quarter-Finals. Thus, HUElavia (25), was drawn into Group F with the following teams: Astograth (52), South Newlandia (71), Ziwana (76), Electrum (101), Indusse (108), and Sulsuland (163). The group seeding had HUElavia seeded as #1 of 7 in Group F, meaning the team will get their rest day in Matchday 1 before starting on Matchday 2. All the group stage matches will be played in Ethane.

The matches will be in order for HUElavia as follows: MD 2- HUElavia vs Ziwana, MD 3- Indusse vs HUElavia, MD 4- HUElavia vs Electrum, MD 5- Sulsuland vs HUElavia, MD 6- HUElavia vs Astograth, MD 7- South Newlandia vs HUElavia. The Top 4 of Group F will advance to the Round-of-32, along with the other 28 teams coming from the Top 4 of the remaining groups. For the game versus Ziwana, the main XI will be playing, with Lobato in goal and Cristiano as the Captain.

Fans are coming in droves to the stadium to support the team with not just passion and joy, but with fury over the elimination- something that they share along with the team, who looks to prove themselves. It is expected at least 50% of the stadiums will be filled with HUElavians, who seek to take up an endzone in each stadium they visit to support Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos. It'll be a big tournament, but the team is keen to make some noise and silence the mouth of the doubters of the team. All the team can do is practice and prepare themselves, while the fans can hope and pray for a strong tournament of this team.

FORCA HUELAVIA! VAMOS HUELAVIA! GO HUELAVIA!

Flavovespia will play 6 games in the group stage of Cup of Harmony 78. With 4 teams going through, and Flavovespia coming out of Pot 2, there is a lot of expectation on the side to qualify, but as the last Cup of Harmony showed, little can be taken for granted. With the games coming up, let’s take a preview at the 6 teams that Flavovespia must take on to progress to the knockout stages.

Huayramarca

Only in their 2nd World Cup cycle, Huayramarca took an impressive 4th place in their qualifying group, and have risen to the heights of 91st in the KPB world rankings. A very culturally diverse nation, with many jungles and high terrain, it’s a nation that can be fun to travel to, even if in football terms, they’ll try a lot to try and win. Tactically, they’re a fan of the 4-2-3-1 as well. Bryan Tello and Ian Mamini are the big threats in the attack, and between them and Scott Coleman and Steven Hall, could provide plenty of goals when these sides meet.

The Gothanita Isles

A debutant this cycle, they managed 4th place in what is looking like a solid Baptism of Fire class. They did lose a 3rd place playoff 5-0 to Squidroidia, but Flavovespia can hardly make fun of a loss to Squidroidia. A 4-4-10 record at the qualifiers is probably a bit undeserved. At one point The Gothanita Isles had multiple simultaneous managers, but Poafmer Zahi Castillias now manages them. The managers of The Gothania Isles also favour a 4-2-3-1, so Flavovespia will be up against a familiar tactic it seems in the opening games.

Mattijana

The group opponents Flavovespia have previously met in the Cup of Harmony. The edition before last, Flavovespia ran out 1-2 winners, ensuing that they finished unbeaten, although the number of draws kept them out of the knockout stages. One of the older nations of the group, Mattijana are one of the higher ranked nations in Esportiva, even if they’re relatively lower in the KPB rankings. 7th in their qualifying group will leave Mattijana hungry for redemption. They’ll likely also want some revenge over Flavovespia, having been defeated by them in the only match so far between these sides.

Abanhfleft

Abanhfleft weren’t too far off the playoffs in their group, just 3 points in the end the difference, above some of their own early expectations. Nevertheless, close to the playoffs doesn’t get you to the World Cup, and they’ll be in the Cup of Harmony. The all-female team will come to the Cup of Harmony in Pot 3, and should certainly at least be in the picture for the knockout stages. However nothing is settled before the first blow of the whistle, and they can’t be complacent.

Megistos

Round of 16 in the Baptism of Fire, 7th place and 21 points, including 5 wins was a decent first cycle for Megistos and with it comes a Cup of Harmony berth. Playing a 4-3-2-1, Maximilien Martinez will use the full backs to go forward, as the wide midfielders go central in the attack. They have a very youthful squad, who’ll only grow in standing with every game played, and can’t be underestimated by Flavovespia. Aesthetically, their kits have drawn much praise from those fans interested in that in Flavovespia.

Sargossa

Sargossa are one of the biggest names in this Cup of Harmony. Once winners of this tournament, and the Copa Rushmori 3 times, they are definitely coming into this tournament as one of the favourites, even if recent years haven’t been too kind to them. 3rd to Vilita and The Sarian, 2 strong nations is why they come to Sylestone and Ethane. The Corsairs are the last opponents of Flavovespia in the group, and both sides will come into the match hoping to already be qualified to the knockout stages, otherwise it’ll be a very tense encounter. Brian McAllister of Tikariot comes into the dugout following the failure of Juan José Barreto to qualify for the World Cup. His 4-3-3 drops into a 4-5-1 in defence. How quickly the Sargossa side adopt to the fast passing and short play will decide how far one of the heavyweights of the tournament can go.

Maccian Football Association's Squad For The World Cup 86 Qualifiers

Image

Brief Team Introduction:

The Riflemen have had a successful cycle by its standards, finishing 5th in Group 10. Gelinas has shifted the team's tactics around to more accurately represent the counter-attacking style of play he wants to achieve. However, with a lacklustre defence and a shallow talent pool, Gelinas has to make do with the players at his disposal. With Kriessmann and Aurelliz coming back from their injuries, the attack looks much more threatening along with the midfield looking fairly solid. Zujaierder is now 33 and has announced that she will be retiring from football after the Cup of Harmony 78 is over, meaning Gelinas has to go on the prowl looking for a suitable successor. Whilst he's at it, he may as well search for a competent rightback because Reiktu Sien Brouge is not suited for the role at all. All in all, this Cup of Harmony looks promising as Maccian could potentially break out of the group stages and into the knockout rounds for the first time in the nation's history.

Nickname: The Riflemen

Manager: Angelo Gelinas, Age 48 from Quebec

Angelo Gelinas, in some ways, is the very definition of 'the balanced Quebecois' which, while sounding oxymoron, is plausible by any means. Earlier in his life, he had a very illustrious, well-celebrated career with Avenida Principal in Farfadillis and the Quebecois National Team, where he played a significant role as both their star forward (playing style: complete forward). His highest achievement as a player was his significant role in Quebecois NT's 2 quarterfinal finishes and a 4th place run in the World Cup.

Since his retirement, Gelinas moved onto a managerial career, where he steadily climbed up the ranks before being named the manager of Montreal Koreana, the most historic and winningest team in Quebec. There, on a club that needed an uptick in form from 3rd-6th finishing range, Gelinas managed to bring back the Koreana with 2 Q-League titles and 2 Coupe du Roi titles before continuing his career abroad with Marinos Metropolis. There, he led the longtime Valladar powerhouse to 2 mediocre league finishes (9th and 6th) in LFV, but have also won a King's Shield (Valladar FA Cup) and had 2 deep runs in the newfound IFCF. After his firing by the Marinos, he hopes to continue his managerial career with Maccian, a national team with high potential and balanced playing style he likes emphasising about.

As a manager, Gelinas is a guy who focuses on a balanced style of play with a typical Quebecois flair the game. With his famed work ethic dating back to his playing days with Avenida Principal, Gelinas expects all his players to be on top of a rigorous training regime and be clean with executions. That said, he's not a disciplinarian himself, and will turn blind eye to his players' off-turf antics, granted they perform well.

He is an accomplished manager who has won trophies and so will help this young Maccian side towards future greatness and prosperity. We only have the Supreme Leader to thank, because he is the one who negotiated this deal with Gelinas. Although his rigorous training regime could lead to a lot of injuries considering these are teenagers and young players still early in their careers, Gelinas has taken our team to a new level with his tactics.

The Cup of Harmony Preview for the Elephants - Possibilities in both directions

As the fourth year of international South Newlandian football begins, the team has to deal with a complicated situation for the first time. While they usually were the natural outsiders with hardly any shot at success, they need to deliver in Esportiva now. Despite the fairly mediocre qualifying campaign for the 86th World Cup that saw the team out of the race early, the Elephants are seeded into pot three for the Cup of Harmony, as the currently 65th ranked nation. Because the best four teams advance into the Round of 32, the fans are expecting the team to move on from the seven team group, just like they did two years ago in Zwangzug and Kelssek.

Here’s why the Elephants have all the chances:

Best players stay here
Since the earlier successes of the Elephants, no notable strong players have left the team. Team captain Trischuk is still leading the team onto the pitch, McCabe is still up front, and even though O’Neill has lost his starting slot, he remains a decent alternative on defense. The team’s core remained intact, with especially the “front six” of Mohamed, Green, McMora, Wallis, Irving and McCabe having played a lot of games together.

The team proved to be able to play strong
Despite the mediocre end to the qualifiers, the Elephants proved to be able to compete; losing against higher seeded teams just once (!), and that was away in Mriin. They held Port Ember to two draws, and took four points each from Filindostan, TJUN-ia and the Natanians and Nosts. The team clearly can play strong even against the multiverses best - we surely don’t have the remind you of the WCQ85.

At home, almost
The Campionato Esportiva will be the first ever tournament the Elephants play in their home region, the place to be, Esportiva. Despite the 72nd Baptism of Fire being played in two Esportivan nations, the Elephants only played one game in Esportiva; the Quarterfinals, which marked the exit, after playing eight games in Delaclava. Nevertheless, the shorter travel to Ethane might be an advantage for the Elephants.

Why things might go wrong anyway:

Coaching uncertainties
The coaching question wasn’t really ever asked before in South Newlandia, at least not until now. Robert Wolverine has been on the side-line since the very first game, together with his assistant Michael White. That has all changed now, with White taking over the Kohnheadian national team, and Ingolffson stepping into his place. Wolverine’s chair isn’t as safe as it used to be either, despite a strong second half in the qualifiers. If the team collapses, it might be the end for him too.

No home advantage
One thing certainly showed during the qualifiers, and that’s that South Newlandia can be a force at home. Remaining undefeated throughout the qualifying campaign, against some of the multi-verses best, is a notable achievement; while the team was barely average abroad. Of course, there are exceptions to this rule; we can only footnote 85 again. In the Cup of Harmony, the Elephants will not have any home advantage; almost every game is going to feel like it’s played away. South Newlandians just don’t travel abroad just for a football game, or six, too often.

Repeated disappointment against poor teams
Sigh. The South Newlandian team just can’t get their crap together against teams they should beat sometimes. On the one hand, we have crushing defeats (4-0 against Se Vende Skooma or 2-5 in Union Europae come to mind), but on the other are inexplicable poor performances. Losing in Se Vende Skooma, drawing against the Southern Palm Islands twice, or the sleep inducing 0-0 at home against Union Europae prove that the team still has lots to learn when it comes to beating teams they should be able to beat. Of course, the reason is a tactical one; South Newlandia relies on counter attacks a lot, which was awesome when every team expected to beat the Elephants, but just doesn’t work anymore when the Elephants have the ball for most of the game. Wolverine certainly has to work on techniques to work good defending teams down, while also not senselessly giving up goals on the other side.

In conclusion, this is a strange situation to be in for the team. Both a deep playoff run and an early exit in the group are very much possible, and it’s hard to predict the way it goes. One thing is certain, this Cup of Harmony will decide whether the Elephants can make a push for World Cup 87 in two years, which would still be a stretch, or if that’s out of the question.

We cannot talk about expectations without looking at the opponents, of course.

The Elephants have received a fairly special schedule: First, they will play the four lower seeded teams first in two double headers, and tackle the two top seeds individually in solo games. First up is a double header against Ziwana and Indusse. Ziwana is the team from pot four and the one ranked closest to South Newlandia, currently clocking in 76th, while Indusse is 108th. Ziwana is located in Melayu Archipelago, and they had a pretty decent qualifying run, even though they ultimately fell short by a bit. They’ll be a team that can match up with South Newlandia well, and the Elephants with have to put up a big fight to beat this team. Indusse is one of the best sporting teams from India, and they proved to be a very competitive team as well, even though they are just outside the top 100. Coming from pot six, they are one of those teams South Newlandia just has to beat if they want to do anything. The second double header features the only team South Newlandia has played before; the Rushmori powerhouse and former World Cup champions Electrum. The two teams played in the most recent Cup of Harmony too, and South Newlandia won a game remembered for football discussion, an elongated half-time and a 1-0 win that sent the Elephants to the knockout stages. It’s going to be hard to pull that off again, but the team can certainly try. A draw would be a decent outcome here. The second half of the double header will be Sulsuland, a strange nation from Sonnel. Let’s face it, all nations in Sonnel are strange, but the people of Sulsuland take the fish-cake. Even just thinking about the nation may freak your cAPitalizaTIon oFf a bit. The Elephants should be able to win this duel, hopefully.
At this point, it would be helpful if South Newlandia was already as good as qualified, but seven points are certainly necessary from those first games. Next up are Astograth, another Rushmori heavyweight and experienced football participants. The team is ranked 52nd, so not actually that far ahead of the Elephants, but they’ll be the favourites for sure. The last team, HUElavia from The South Pacific, will hopefully be played at a point where South Newlandia has already secured advancement. The 25th ranked team in the world is one of the big favourites to win it all, after narrowly missing out on making the World Cup again.

Final verdict: South Newlandia will just barely squeeze through into the Round of 32, where they will likely lose by a clear margin against a favourite. Then again, we are historically terrible at predicting this, so who knows?

Interview with the Red Army coach, Gúpder Mebal

The start of the Cup of Harmony is approaching, and many Tiogs are demanding explanations for the drastic changes in the roster. Many fans longed for the presence of many of their idols who had had amazing performances during the WCQ. Players like Oches, Mongard, Albofokh, and Omnofo have been left out of the call. The changes in the squad are accompanied by a structural reform of the team, with tactical and strategic changes, a new training methodology, and with a view to a future of competition at the highest level. To clear up doubts and clarify the reasons behind his decision, Gúpder Mebal granted us an interview.

Gúpder, what is the main reason behind the change in the roster? Is it related to the performance of the players?

"Not at all. The boys showed exemplary performance during the qualifiers. All of them. Unfortunately, we haven't had much time to prepare, and my coaching staff and I have not yet decided on a final starting 11. During the qualifiers, we opted to shoot a single squad to maximize cohesion within the field and obtain the best possible results. However, during training, we had a much more extensive set of players. We decided that the players whose performance was most consistent during qualifiers would form the backbone of a new lineup, which included other players."

You were harshly criticized for removing some players from the squad. Will new players be able to fulfill the responsibilities of these players in the same way?

"You mean if I think they can? Look, I don't intend for them to do it, because I have new instructions for them. They are different players, with other strengths and other weaknesses. Omnofo can open up spaces on defense and team up with Oroso, but he doesn't have the same ability to support the midfielders as Besel. And it's obvious, Omnofo trained all year to be a winger at the ultra-offensive Draspa Moipas, while Besel was an inside forward for the more structured Pmig Enako. The new players are here in response to a tactical adaptation within the team, and to an inclusive and long-term project. I urge the people of Tioguldós to embrace the changes and accompany the team through its development."

Can we expect a third roster for the next World Cup?

"There is still a long way to go before the next World Cup. The best thing is to wait, see how the debuting players in this competition perform, consider the next season of Muko Tiog, take into account the players who change teams in the next Transfer Window. Besides, the long-term changes do not involve individual players, but rather a total restructuring that the squad will have to accommodate to year after year. "

You have stated after the match against Reçueçn that the changes within the organization of the national team would be comprehensive and encompass much more than tactics and strategy on the field. What do you mean by that?

"Well, we've been working for such a short time. We plan to optimize the functioning of the national team. Right now, we are preparing unprofessionally. The training sessions do not have the discipline that a national team requires. The structuring of the Red Army is taking its first steps in a long-term project that we are preparing with the JJT. We aspire to find teams abroad so that our youngest players can develop in more competitive leagues until the level of the Muko Tiog reaches conditions of excellence."

Since you mention it, there has been lots of buzz regarding Fa Mekh Rachakh's call. Have you brought him to Ethane to show him outside?

"Of course not. We chose him for his performances this season. We believe he has a natural talent and can be useful to us to surprise a solid defense. Of course, he will not have a place in the starting eleven. He is still young and has a lot to learn. I am confident that he has a great future, whether in the Muko Tiog or abroad. But when I say that we want players to compete at a higher level, I mean all of them. Some of them already do. In that regard, everyone is here to prove their worth, and hopefully advance professionally."

In Tioguldós, people say that Ugós Oroso is too much of a good player for La Nueva Avenida. What do you think about that?

"I think people can have too high aspirations. They must not confuse affection with idolatry. Ugós is the star of our team, and he is certainly an important piece of La Nueva Avenida. Remember this is one of the biggest teams in Farfadillis. If he achieves good results, he will probably be transferred to some team that fights to be champion; if not, he will have to continue working. I bet if he was still in OMB, people would make less guesswork and enjoy his football more."

Going back to the Red Army topic, could you explain your thinking behind the team's new tactic?

"During the qualifiers, we found ourselves countless times playing very disorganized. This was due to two mistakes, both made by me. First, the squad was too aggressive for the strategy I had planned. I can't blame them, as much as you want to do things one way, if you choose a winger for the full-back position, you will have a full-back that thinks and plays as a winger. It's as simple as that. This time the team is more structured and will better fit the flexible 4-3-3 with false 9. Second, my intentions to play counterattack were a response to the lack of security in defense we had. With tactics according to our formation and our players, we can attack with greater precision and defend with less risk."

You guys arrived in Ethane a few days ago. Did you have the opportunity to travel a little and get to know the country up close?

"No, not really. The group draw was recently, and these last days I have spent them analyzing our rivals with the analysis team and giving individual instructions to the players for our next matches. Hopefully, I can get everything ready and give myself a day off before the tournament starts. Honestly, I'm a little anxious. "

Regarding Fusul, it is said that he can cause problems within the squad. Should we be concerned?

"Look, if we have problems within the team, it concerns us and only us. Oikilde is a good guy and is mainly questioned for his religious orientation. I recommend people to pay more attention to what happens on the field and less to what happens outside. They can damage the career of one of the future talents of our country with discussions that have nothing to do with football. To the media, I remind you that in Tioguldós, we prioritize the wellbeing of the people over the voracious profit of news portals like yours. Your sensationalist questions try to cause trouble on the team to give you something to talk about."

The squad was on the plan, en route from Cheergirls to Sylestone.

“Coach”, captain Meghan Banks began in the direction of Sarah Drennan, the figurative coach of the squad, “we should launch a protest about the schedule. It is totally unfair.”

Those were not words that Drennan was expecting to hear, as she did not feel that there was anything that would remotely be considered unfair about the schedule. She thought that she was going to mention the caliber of opponents that the team was about to play in the Cup of Harmony when she pressed Meghan for more information.

“We do not have a bye day,” Banks began, “Everyone else has a bye day. Totally not fair.”

Drennan, with a confused look on her face replied, “Our bye day is the last matchday of the group stage.”

Meghan was not going to take that. “That is not a bye day! A bye day happens in the middle of the competition. It means you have another game after it. We don’t have that. It is not fair, and we should protest.”

Drennan remained confused, as that kind of response was odd from her captain. She thought Meghan was just joking around but she had such a serious look on her face. She said she would talk to the organizers about it just to make Meghan happy. Though Drennan would have no intention of actually bringing it up to anyone. The rest of the flight was uneventful with the team doing simple things to pass the time, before they eventually landed. The team left the plane, and headed towards the airport building to prepare to go through customs.

“That is an awfully strange place for a stove,” Mallory Webster said towards Banks. The stove appeared to be propping the door open for everyone. Webster then realized she wanted to get her phone out of her purse and placed the purse down on the stove to do so.

“Uhm, excuse me?” the stove shouted out forcing Webster to jump and startling other players.

“Who said that?” she asked as she placed the purse on the stove anyway.

“Please take your purse off of me or I will be forced to warm it up, if you know what I mean.” the stove replied. Webster was still confused as a mixture of laughter and surprise were coming behind her. Finally, someone cued her in on the sentient appliances that exist in Sylestone and that the stove was actually an airport employee. Webster would apologize.

There would be no other incidents until the team made it to their hotel rooms. Once inside her room, Webster looked at the fridge and microwave in the room in a suspicious manner. “You aren’t really alive are you?” Webster said to the fridge, and then to the microwave as her roommate, Brianna Collier, looked on. “Say something!” Webster then said.

“I guess they are not alive,” Collier added in.

“What if they are just being sneaky? And not saying anything so they can spy on us. That would not be right at all.” Webster said as she kicked the fridge. Nothing happened. She then went to the microwave, and punched it on top. Nothing happened.

“They are not alive. We are okay.” Collier observed.

“I guess not. But my foot hurts.” Webster replied.

BASIC INFO
NATION: Ethane
NICKNAME: Red Kites
STYLE MODIFIER: -0.76
TRIGRAMME: ETN
FORMATION: 4-4-1-1

STAFFING
MANAGER: Joren Kreuger | Satyr | M | 45
Previously the assistant manager of Mriin, Kreuger has been looking to better things for a while. Whether you can call managing Ethane better things after that dismal WCQ run, Kreuger has taken up the role after it became absent following Bakerman's firing. It was clearly coming for Daniel, with the qualification performance far from good enough to justify his position. The Red Kites find themselves in the Cup of Harmony again, and are now destined for a rebuilding process of sorts to get back up to speed for the next WCQs. Kreuger has a very analytical mind, having been a playmaking AM in his playing days, just lacking the raw athleticism because of a bad injury he had in his late teens. He was able to rehab into playing form by his mid-twenties, but was never able to get back to his physical peak. He made up for that by going hard on tactical analysis and learning everything he could about each opponent. Kreuger was a key part of the Reavers squad that qualified on their second qualifying attempt. He should make a great addition to the team, and lead this rebuilding effort. (desc. by Mriin).

ASSISTANT MANAGER: Adam Lanai | 34
With Bakerman's departure, Sabrina followed in his footsteps. Adam Lanai has taken her place, moving up from a technical coach, with the board seeing future management potential in him, even if just for a lower-ranked NT or domestic side.

THE PLAYERS
Changes in The Flame League and in the managerial style of the national team have had an impact on the player base of the Red Kites. A limited shift towards a slightly more defensive player base has definitely occurred. However, this is not to take away from the quality offensive players that this team has, although the whole team has undergone a decline over recent years. Perhaps this also explains the influx of some new, younger players. The manager may be looking to some of the new blood to step up and make that difference to stop the rot. However, there are expectations on the already established players as well to perform, with previous performances not living up to what this team is capable of - not too long ago, this team was ranked 8th in the world.

GOALKEEPER: Joss Araújo | 28 | Bourne River | 29 appearances | 13 clean sheets
A dynamic shot-stopper, Araújo is a rising star in Ethanian football. Stepping up recently to the Bourne River team, he has demonstrated great awareness in league play, as well as that ability to just pull off an amazing save here and there. About 6' 2'' in height, Araújo's height isn't to be frowned at, with his ability to make himself big in goal one of his advantages. His goal kicks aren't amazing, and he probably isn't someone you'd want to rely on passing back to on many occasions, but as a basic goalkeeper he lives up to and goes beyond expectations. He played most of the 85th qualification campaign, and despite falling short, Joss was a standout player with some spectacular saves. Expected to hold his starting position, Bakerman will be expecting him to repeat some of the heroics of the last world cup qualification campaign, brushing aside the mistakes in the Campionato Esportiva.

GOALKEEPER: Donovan Velázquez | 27 | Birdingstone United | 6 appearances | 3 clean sheets
The penalty specialist. Velázquez has an ability to read players well. While his positioning in normal play may not be the best, and his awareness is sub-standard, when it comes to one-on-ones and penalties he really shines. He isn't short and he has an intimidating stature. But when it comes to that penalty shootout or that extra time wonder-save, you know he is going to be the one with his name up in lights. Backup to Joss and good at it.

GOALKEEPER: Reinaldo Coleman | 30 | Cadadale | 0 appearances | 0 clean sheets
Sure and certain as a goalkeeper, Coleman does not disappoint, especially at the basics. Brave and willing, she does not shy away from putting herself in a dangerous position. Especially good at covering crosses and free kicks, but not to be underestimated in a 1-on-1 situation either. A solid back line that will keep on fighting until the end. Perhaps a little too aggressive, is liable to cards. New to the international stage and will be hoping for some, albeit limited, game time.

LEFT-BACK: Antonio Atanga | 30 | New Sarum | 18 appearances | 7 clean sheets | 2 goals | 5 assists
Atanga is also often used as a pacey wingback, marauding down the flanks acting as a winger as well as a defender, providing an extra dimension on attack depending on the formation of play. He is quite skilled at dribbling at pace and has a few skill moves up his sleeves, as well as an accurate cross and finesse shot. He is slightly unstable on his feet though and a little too keen to go to ground, both when being tackled but also in his overuse of slide tackles which makes cards a slightly greater consideration for him. When on the pitch, could potentially take free-kicks.

LEFT-BACK: Cai Woods | 32 | AS Bezieres (VLD) | 60 appearances | 17 clean sheets | 3 goals | 8 assists
Woods is a skilled Ethani football player. He is mature and skilled with the ball at his feet, and has great awareness on and off the ball. He isn't particularly strong and he lacks some of the pace he used to possess, but he isn't slow either and can provide limited threat on the offensive. He has developed a deadly cross as well, performing well in overlap with a left-winger or a left-positioned attacking midfielder. But he is also aware of when not to attack and to stay back, providing solid covering in defence. He may seem past his best, but he certainly is far from it, he's just adapted. Played a decent number of games last cycle and is expected to play a similar number this cycle.

LEFT-BACK: Eric Morris | 34 | Bourne River | 57 appearances | 20 cleans sheets | 8 goals | 22 assists
Morris is a creative left-back. He likes to play fast-paced football, with a general impetus to get the ball upfield rather than to keep possession which makes him an unusual fit for this team, albeit better placed with offensive focus. He is creative but he is malleable, meaning he sometimes does get caught out on the defensive with a lack of positioning awareness a downside to his game. He is a talented tackler though, timing his tackles well; it is unusual that he gets a card. Occasionally, he can also pose a threat in front of goal with his well-timed runs into the box. He can push up and play LM if required, although he probably wouldn't fit into a Left-attacking midfielder position.

CENTRE-BACK: Max Wilburn-Mason | 21 | Hullbury | 20 appearances | 8 clean sheets | 1 goal | 3 assists
A young, upcoming Ethani defensive player. He is mature beyond his age. A tall player, Wilburn-Mason has a great aerial presence and typically wins headers. He isn't fast but he is smart in positioning and awareness, great at interceptions and conservative tackles. He won't go all in for a tackle, preferring to stay on his feet. Young and inexperienced so may be caught out sometimes on this stage. Likes to push forward and is talented at breaking down some defences. Pushes up for corners. Has made an astounding entry on to the national team and is expected to be one of the better Ethani players on the team for many years to come, leading from the back.

CENTRE-BACK: Craig James | 25 | Loconstead United | 19 appearances | 8 clean sheets
James is an average paced player with a lot of confidence. This confidence is great when he is marking people, which he does really well at restricting players from making moves and tracking their movement, skilled at positioning. However, this confidence is not so good when he is willing to go to ground easily and doesn't have the same game sense as a more experienced player would have, thus making him slightly more prone to cards.

CENTRE-BACK: Markus Capradossi | 28 | Chenoworth Rovers (NPH) | 12 appearances | 6 clean sheets
A solid defensive player with brute strength and good positioning and awareness. Can be a bit of a brute, so may sometimes get a card. But generally smart and stays on his feet when he can. Sometimes panics and can get desperate, but also sometimes pulls off some marvellous defensive work. Not good when he's on his own at the back.

CENTRE-BACK: Elliott Collins | 23 | South Saints | 0 appearances | 0 clean sheets
A great replacement for Nelson Romero at South Saints at the back, and a great replacement for him on the national team too. He may be short, but he is fast and positions well, so he isn't easy to get passed. Perhaps lets himself on to the back foot too often and doesn't chase down enough, but he can clean up most of the messes he makes.

CENTRE-BACK: Chris Stevens | 27 | Holloway | 0 appearances | 0 clean sheets
Not special, not got any secret talents up his sleeves, and not going to provide anything much on the offensive. Just a bogstandard, above average defender. Strongly built, appears a little dominating, and certainly not someone you'd want to be in a fight with.

RIGHT-BACK: Zakariya McArthur | 32 | Brindham Park | 40 appearances | 12 clean sheets | 3 assists
He's pacey so can bomb forward and provide an extra dimension on the wing in the attack, but also puts in a lot of effort so quickly tracks back to prevent counters. He commits, but not too much to leave him way out of position. He has accurate crosses, powerful shots. He reads the game well and knows when to cross when to go in for a shot, and when to stay back for the counter. He knows when to go in for a tackle and when to just block. He just isn't very good in pressurised situations.

RIGHT-BACK: Toby Turner | 24 | Bourne River | 10 appearances | 5 clean sheets
A young, agile, and fast player; Turner certainly provides an explosive aspect to his game. He is also relatively smart defensively and in positioning. His weakness comes in the offence, with his passing not up to standard and his crossing slightly lacklustre, though this are areas of his game which he is spending significant time developing, which Bennett will certainly help with considering their history working together as well.

RIGHT-BACK: Sebastien Ryalls | 23 | New Sarum | 2 appearances | 1 clean sheet
A dynamic, pacey right-back who adds an extra offensive overlapping game to his defensive abilities. He is fast, agile, and smart in his playstyle. He is also perhaps one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, sweet and kind, and always apologetic when he fouls another player.

LEFT-MIDFIELDER: Iwan Roberts | 32 | Makosile United (VIL) | 55 appearances | 7 goals | 12 assists
He may not have the strength of some wingers, nor quite the same crossing abilities as some of the better wingers (although he can still whip some decent crosses in), but what he does have is pace. He is one of Ethane's quickest runners, and he has a decent dribbling ability, making him ideal for a team focused on attack - either counter or just full-out - with the core idea to rip apart and stretch the opponent's defence. He has this ability to draw the defence out to him by coaxing them before charging round them - one of his trademark moves.

LEFT-MIDFIELDER: Alex Woodrow | 28 | Chatswood (NPH) | 12 appearances | 1 goal | 3 assists
Woodrow is agile and flexible, thus able to dupe players with his skill abilities. But he isn't that quick a player. However, he has a really good cross and can pick out players in the box with precision. He is also good at set pieces, and is likely to play them if Atanga isn't.

CENTRE-MIDFIELDER: Leyton Underwood | 36 | South Saints | 112 appearances | 20 goals | 32 assists
Leyton has a remarkable mind focused on attack, getting the ball forward and making advances towards the goal. He has pace, as well as the set of skills required to do well in the centre of midfield - passing, dribbling, the authority to dictate the game plan and the pace of play. He is a strong leadership figure within this squad and well respected, both in the team and abroad. He's ageing but still has the desire, and physical fitness, to play just slower.

CENTRE-MIDFIELDER: Jaheim Zavala | 22 | Eikborg Club (SEM) | 28 appearances | 3 goals | 8 assists
Zavala has a really attacking impetus to his game, dribbling and moving forward and always trying to force the pass on. He has good linkup play between the defence and offence, and is not afraid to try out new things. Occasionally drifts too wide leaving the middle open, but also covers for wingers well. Pacey. Doesn't offer up too much in defence, but working on his defensive game. A very bright future.

CENTRE-MIDFIELDER: Alexander Kjaer | 29 | Loconstead United | 11 appearances | 2 goals | 3 assists
Kjaer is a calm and collected player. He puts the effort in, but he often doesn't know how best to approach a situation, making him prone to the mistake here and there. However, he is very much zippy and agile in midfield, especially when turning and shooting, providing a link-up threat or even an attacking threat himself when on the attack, especially effective on the counter.

CENTRE-MIDFIELDER: Nicolas Riemann | 26 | Rhayader | 0 appearances | 0 goals | 0 assists
[size=85]An aspirational player who often takes on tasks that they cannot do in the hope they grow into it. They are out of their depth, but are able to step up sometimes where needed. A more conservative player who plays well in a possession-based balanced team. Good passing and vision.

RIGHT-MIDFIELDER: Kyle Ford | 28 | Oakstone (EUR) | 73 appearances | 20 goals | 39 assists
Ford offers a lot for the national team and is one of Ethane's most notable players. His style isn't founded on pace like some of the other players on the international team. Instead, he prefers to build up and keep possession. He is a strong dribbler, and has great awareness, especially in regards to crosses and through balls, the like which can tear open defences. He is also not averse to switching play a little and coming into the centre from the wing in an attack on the defence, letting the odd shot off here and there.

RIGHT-MIDFIELDER: Rigby Headley (RW) | 33 | Olympia FC (EFL) | 64 appearances | 18 goals | 16 assists
Headley is a talented striker/right-wing attacker, hence the call up to the national side. He has past experience on the national side. Will be used in cases where the team is focused on attack solely, due to his more attacking nature of play.

ATTACKING-MIDFIELDER: Josh Montoya | 32 | Oakstone (EUR) | 104 appearances | 28 goals | 44 assists
Montoya has a real ability to play and carry a team if needed. He's one of those players you can rely on to deliver when everyone else is having a bad game. Even if he's having a bad game he has that moment of genius that can make all the difference. Montoya is a mature footballer, showing wisdom and intelligence in his style of play and technique. He also has a deadly pace which allows him to rocket past defenders and tear opposition teams open. However, his main skills lie in his passing ability. His awareness allows for deadly through-balls and crucial passes, although when things aren't working out he can get a little frustrated and his performances drop a little. He can struggle under intense pressure, and is more injury prone than other players following a severe injury near the start of his career. He is also fairly reluctant to tackle because of this and doesn't offer much defensively.

ATTACKING-MIDFIELDER: Andy Obrien | 28 | Letson Town | 27 appearances | 5 goals | 5 assists
He is dedicated and much more willing to put energy and time into training and into the game, making him an important player to have on the field because of how willing he is to get involved. He isn't necessarily fast either, but he is a great playmaker, and completely unselfish. He is solid at positioning, passing, and dribbling, which allows him to work and coordinate an attack from the front effectively.

ATTACKING-MIDFIELDER:Leonardo Ford | 33 | Cranequin Wanderers (NPH) | 2 appearances | 1 goal | 1 assist
Brought in to bring a bit of maturity into the position when needed and refinement, Ford is towards the older side of the players in the national team. That's not to say he isn't fresh or willing to get stuck in. However, Ford is very much an individual player who subscribes to individuals working together to form a team, rather than a unit of players working together which is the view Comi more aligns with. This probably explains why Ford is generally more selfish than other players and could go some distance in explaining why Southern Hampton City wasn't slightly higher than they finished. Undoubtedly, Ford is good in his role with 11 assists to his name across the past season, but his selfishness and own ambition, which saw him score 8 goals across the past season, also saw his team miss a number of chances and lose out in chances where if he had passed to someone else, they might have scored.

STRIKER: Declan Smith | 29 | IFK Aldenskoett (COS) | 104 appearances | 69 goals | 13 assists
Smith has a real eye for goal and always seems to know how to turn every play into an opportunity on goal, even when it seems there is no chance on goal. He can score goals from anywhere and any moment, it's almost magical. His assist number is a lot lower because he is always looking for goals, sometimes meaning he ignores an obvious opportunity that a teammate has to score, making him seem a little selfish. However, he is always trying to do what is best for the team in his own eyes. He can dribble and move well with the ball, although he isn't the fastest striker in the world. However, he does have good vision and knows where to move to shoot and to receive a pass. This makes him a dangerous player to be facing.

STRIKER: Scott Burgess | 26 | Loconstead United | 99 appearances | 46 goals | 11 assists
Burgess is a very fast striker, allowing him to breakway and rip apart defences with his speed and surpise. He is especially effective on the counter attack, but is also very useful as a point striker, because of his vision and his short-range shooting abilities. He is weaker at long-range shooting, and is not the greatest at headers. However, he is a strong team-player, and fully dedicated to his team.

STRIKER: Lukas Cole | 29 | Falourr (EUR) | 34 appearances | 12 goals | 6 assists
He is more of a team player and passes the ball a lot more than other strikers such as Smith. Sometimes, he can be too unselfish, harming his own goal tally, as he misses what could have been an easy goal for himself to pass the ball to someone else. This can also lead to mistakes in passing the ball, resulting in his team missing out on a goal completely because of a mistake. He is a relatively fast striker. However, he is weak on the ball and can easily be pushed off, so needs a little more space to shoot than other strikers. Doesn't like being under pressure too much.

STRIKER: Luke Roberts | 29 | North Laithland (NPH) | 3 appearances | 1 goal | 0 assists
Pacey, and good at finishing. Not much of a team player. Good with the head, but has a poor left foot. Good on the break. Believes he is better than Deloitte and thinks moving will help him in to the national team.

STRIKER: Denis Classie | 29 | New Sarum | 1 appearance | 1 goal | 0 assists
Classie is a smart, but back-to-basics, young striker. Acting as a target man, he can take it anywhere and make any turn needed. He's good with the head, both feet, or any part of the body needed, and is good running on to the ball with through balls, especially in one-on-ones but also good at longer shots. Basically, he doesn't do much else.

New manager, but same old squad.

Joren Kreuger has taken over from Daniel Bakerman in the management of the Ethani national team following a poor qualification effort in the world cup qualifiers. The Red Kites never seemed anywhere near to qualifying, so Bakerman was released mid-way through. A caretaker manager was put in charge, but unable to rectify the issues for the team. Kreuger was brought up as a possibility towards the end of the qualifiers, when an approach was made. It was decided to keep negotiations under wraps until the end of the qualifiers; the footballing board in Ethane wanted to make the right decision without haste. Deciding not to be bound by sticking to the Ethanian style, a shift away from the ultra-defensive approach demonstrated in the qualifiers will be felt under Kreuger. A change in formation may seem surface-level, but it isn't the only thing changing, with a lot more emphasis on the offensive. The team will still lean slightly defensive, as is inherent in this set of players, but Kreuger will be seeking to reinvigorate an attack that failed to run on all cylinders during qualifiers.

He's got a tough task ahead of him. The satyr doesn't know the players well, and has primarily stuck with the squad that failed in the qualifiers. They're bound to disappoint, but at this stage it was hard to make switches. The Cup of Harmony, therefore, could be a bit of a write-off if the players can't get their act together. But Kreuger doesn't have his eye on the Cup of Harmony. He's been told by the board to dream big, and aim for qualification next world cup. He'll be the start of a rebuilding process, which could be done by next qualifiers or could take multiple cups to process. But he'll certainly be eyeing up Ethane's history - particularly that fateful singular quarter-finals appearance - and want to get back to that point again, back when The Red Kites were seen as the eighth best team in the world.

Alistair McIntosh:Good evening ladies and gentlemen, once again from a new tournament. Yes, it feels like we are constantly switching from tournament to tournament, but such is life in here, always something new going on. But all seriousness aside, welcome to our coverage of the Cup of Harmony, where Tikariot will try its best to continue where they had left off in the World Cup qualification. I'm Alistair McIntosh and with me tonight are Duncan Haldane, Martin Seagrave and as Andreas Svedberg is otherwise engaged, we will not have a permanent fourth voice in the studio, but will instead welcome different guests to keep things interesting and today it is a colleague from Tikariot Sports+, Corrado Consigliere, taking a look back at the World Cup qualifiers, the friendlies and an outlook for the Cup of Harmony.

Corrado Consigliere:Thank you for having me, Alistair.

Alistair McIntosh:So let's start things off with a bang, Brian McAllister, assistant coach to Stuart Ekstrom, has jumped ship, so to say. Bad timing?

Duncan Haldane:Well, obviously it is not great timing this close to an important tournament, but let's be honest, if you would get an offer to take over the head coach position of a country like Sargossa, it is difficult to imagine any of us would say no.

Martin Seagrave:I wouldn't. I know that it might be viewed as kind of treason on the team, but it might not be a once in a lifetime opportunity, but still I would not hold it against anybody to jump on that opportunity.

Alistair McIntosh:At least we did not get drawn into the same group as Sargossa, haha. So the TFF did not waste any time and has already announced a replacement in Lars Hartmannsson from Græntfjall, the former coach of GPL side Gunzlach, who finished a disappointing third last season. What would prompt a very successful club coach to go assistant with our national team, Corrado?

Corrado Consigliere:Just like with Brian it's a case of opportunity and a quite unique situation in Græntfjall. Gunzlach and Steinaux are bitter rivals and because of that either side would not accept the coach of the other team to become coach of the national team, because they would automatically fear that there would be some partiality. So the move abroad to gather international experience definitely makes sense.

Martin Seagrave:It does and in a way it is not all that different from McAllister's case, with Ekstrom very secure in the saddle, so to say, the probability of him succeeding him is very slim.

Alistair McIntosh:Before we return to the national team, there is another bit of news between Sargossa and Tikariot, because the Sargossan captain Juan Esnáider has just signed a contract with the Oriannor Mountaineers, who now have picked up two national team centre backs with Esnáider and Gré Arceneaux of Ko-oren. Is this a sign of attack?

Duncan Haldane:It certainly is and the transfer window has not even officially opened yet. We already have eight players coming into Tikariot for the new season and to be perfectly honest, this promises to be really, really exciting!

Martin Seagrave:Especially with the World Cup and the Cup of Harmony now making scouting so easy, it's like being served on a silver platter.

Alistair McIntosh:Haha, yes, that is true. But let's have a look at the World Cup and how things went. We finished third, one point out of the playoffs, success or disappointment?

Corrado Consigliere:Resounding success. I know that it is always disappointing if you get that close, but in the end fail, but just the fact that we DID remain in contention until the very last game shows the quality and spirit of our team, especially after starting out with two losses.

Duncan Haldane:I agree. Literally nobody had even the slightest inkling that we would be this competitive and it was a beauty to behold.

Alistair McIntosh:So we finished with 9 wins, 5 draws and 4 losses, two of which came against Mriin.

Martin Seagrave:There have been voices saying that we have been in a comparatively easy group, but it's still nine other teams, six of which were ranked higher than Tikariot, so I think we can be quite proud of it.

Alistair McIntosh:Who would we see as the winners and losers of the qualifying campaign?

Corrado Consigliere:Winners definitely Romain Chatelet, Morris Nighthorse, Iain Aspinall. Chatelet managed to put Brian Merson on the bench, Aspinall pushed past Jardel Connolly and while Nighthorse had been in the projected starting eleven from the beginning, I don't think anybody could have imagined in their wildest dreams that he would carry his outstanding form straight from the Baptism of Fire into the World Cup qualifiers.

Duncan Haldane:Yes, these three definitely are winners, but also Walter Thomas and Lloyd Cumbernauld have managed to clinch spots in the starting eleven, so these guys definitely have made the most out of the matches.

Martin Seagrave:On the flipside Merson really took a hit in those first two games, same goes for Randy Kovalchuk, who has even been dropped from the squad for the Cup of Harmony!

Corrado Consigliere:In all fairness, though, Stuart Ekstrom had to cut a couple of players due to the 23 squad limit, but it has been some fall from grace.

Alistair McIntosh:So let's have a look at the series of friendlies that Tikariot played between the tournaments, which Ekstrom used as an opportunity to test no less than 24 previously uncapped players and give them a chance to put themselves into the spotlight and in the three wins, six draws and two losses a few of them seemed to have impressed the coach enough to earn a ticket to Ethane.

Duncan Haldane:Franklin McHugh from the Valnohar Rovers in goal, centre back Jason Hardin from Miruan City and the Anhedron striker duo of Jesson Morrison and Franklin Mosnyk are the new faces in the squad and the M&Ms, as the Wanderers fans have christened them, were especially impressive, both scoring twice in the three games they played and Mosnyk even added an assist, enough to push past names such as Connolly, Ekpetita or Wagstaff.

Martin Seagrave:The quality of the team especially in the offense is just ridiculous.

Corrado Consigliere:It is true that we are blessed with plenty of firepower up front. So let's have a look at the squad for the Cup of Harmony, shall we?

Alistair McIntosh:Go right ahead, Corrado.

Corrado Consigliere:So in goal Romain Chatelet as the starting goalkeeper and his performances in the qualifiers definitely merit that. Brian Merson is the first back-up and then as mentioned Franklin McHugh is the third keeper, who is unlikely to see any action in the Cup, but this will definitely help him gain experience by just beign there.

Duncan Haldane:In defense our starting quartet is Zion Grimes on the left, James Coronello and Walter Thomas in the centre and on the right Vincent Liniack, so no surprises there, the only spot that was kind of up in the air was the one of Thomas, because Eren Knox could just as well have been in his place. On the bench we have Alasdair Dunlap for the left, Anil Al Hak for the right and in centre Knox and Jason Hardin, who is one of the brightest youngsters we have.

Martin Seagrave:I'll take over for the midfield then, where there are no surprises at all, both in the starters and the bench. Marvin Thorniley, Rory McNair and Lloyd Cumbernauld had been widely viewed as our strongest trio and Nicholas van Haar, Jenson McTierney and Ozan Welch as backups also were to be expected given the space constrictions.

Alistair McIntosh:And upfront we already mentioned Morris Nighthorse and Iain Aspinall, they are complemented by Graydon Sheffield in the centre, who seems to be back in the starting line-up and the three reserves here are Mosnyk and Morrison as well as Adrian Grimaud, who has proven to be an extremely sharp and efficient player to come in and make a difference right then and there. So a brief look at our group is in order now.

Corrado Consigliere:It is an interesting group for sure, with Krytenia, Xanneria, Twicetagria, The Jovannic, Sylestone and Murphtannia. The Jovannic and Sylestone we know very well already, as they are among the most-played teams, Sylestone six times and The Jovannic three, with positive records against all of them. The reset is all new opponents and some of them are pretty tough nuts to crack.

Duncan Haldane:Let's start at the top, which is Krytenia from pot 1. They came in fourth in their group and they are widely seen as one of the disappoinments of the qualifiers, because only in the second half they actually showed their true potential after a less than mediocre first half. That in itself is bad news for us, as they will be able to bring that momentum into the Cup.

Martin Seagrave:Then Xanneria. Also not a great qualifying campaign, also fourth in their group, but a lot far off the top two spots, so they are more likely to beat than Krytenia for sure. However that being said, they have not reached the rank they have right now for being walkovers. Twicetagria hit fifth in their group, also not really in contention for the playoff spots and coincidentally they will meet their group mates Murphtannia, who came in a more than respectable sixth.

Duncan Haldane:Twicetagria I could see as a team that is hard to play against, not sure why, just a feeling, while Murphtannia is one of those teams that on a good day can beat anyone, but on a bad day just sinks like a lead duck.

Alistair McIntosh:So where does that leave us in terms of an outlook for the Cup?

Corrado Consigliere:With four out of seven teams qualifying for the knock out stages, it obviously is a lot easier to continue on, but I see us in third or even second position.

Martin Seagrave:That sounds like a fair assessment, even though every single team in the Cup is going to be looking for redemption of not qualifying for the World Cup, so nobody should be underestimated in this.

Alistair McIntosh:So our first two opponents are actually former group 18 mates Twicetagria and Murphtannia, playing in Letson, I would say that the hope for four points is not pretentious?

Corrado Consigliere:No, not at all. I think that we have the quality and also momentum on our side to hopefully be able to bring it into Ethane and continue where we left off.

Alistair McIntosh:Thank you for your usual interesting insight and let's hope for the best going into the first two matches of the Cup of Harmony. As usual Tikariot Sports TV will be bringing you every minute of the Cup live, hope to see you then!

Yarrrrrrr!

OOC: I feel like I might talk less pirate-y in the next RP, with only the players (scallywags) and manager (Cap’n Peg-Leg) talking in pirate speak. For now, however, enjoy!

A lot be happenin’ since th’ World Cup. For one, we be in th’ Cup o’ Harmony. For two, we be pirates. Now, ye may be askin’ yersel why we be pirates, an’ th’ answer to yer question is that... we don’t really know. We not be havin’ a clue as to why that bein’ the case. Nonetheless, we be pirates, an’ we be wantin’ BOOTY! (an’ grog, don’t be forgettin’ th’ grog!)

Th’ Vdaran Manager (who from now on be known as Cap’n Peg-Leg) be decidin’ to give all his scallywags a team talk at th’ VdarArena Trainin’ Centre.

Cap’n Peg-Leg: ”Ahoy, me hearties! Now, as ye all know by now, we be out o’ the World Cup.”

A collective “harrumph” broke out among th’ scallywags. They be down in the dumps, since they be thinking they deserved better.

Cap’n Peg-Leg: ”Arrrrr, don’t be actin’ like landlubbers now, that be quite unnecessary! I be an old salt in this ball-booting game, an’ don’t let me be the first tae say that ye all performed quite admirably. Now, that be in the past. What be matterin’ now is that I be updating our battle plans for th’ next few skirmishes. We be pirates, after all!”

A collective “aye aye” wi’ a low-pitched “yarr!” was heard. Th’ scallywags be gettin’ th’ gist o’ this whole pirate speak.

Cap’n Peg-Leg: ”Now that we all be knowin’ what be what, it be time tae board th’ ship!”

Th’ ship in question was a fine-lookin’ thing, an’ it be th’ ship that’ll take our scallywags on th’ voyage tae Ethane.

Image

Cap’n Peg-Leg pointed his finger towards th’ ship, which th’ scallywags gawked at in awe.

Cap’n Peg-Leg: ”Thar, that be th’ S.S. Doom N’ Gloom. Follow me, lads!”

The S.S. Doom N’ Gloom be havin’ plenty o’ features. It be able tae traverse th’ highest o’ waves, th’ seven seas, and (most importantly) it could even traverse th’ land!

Cap’n Peg-Leg: ”Now that we all be on board the Doom N’ Gloom, it be time for a shanty for our voyage tae Ethane!”

With a snap o’ his fingers, Cap’n Peg Leg had 3 scallywags from th’ under-18s ready tae play a good shanty.

”Sea Shanty 2”, a tune that be Cap’n Peg-Leg’s personal favourite, began tae play. Some started tae do a jig, while some chose to hum th’ tune while drinkin’ their grog. Fun times, I tell ye.

Th’ tune would ring out for th’ duration o’ th’ journey, as after a long, long time th’ Doom N’ Gloom finally came tae a stop directly next tae the Newton-Smith Arena.

Cap’n Peg-Leg: ”This be it, lads! Th’ place where we be playin’ our first three matches! I hope ye all enjoy yer stay, but remember - we be moving the ship after Matchday 3!”

Would th’ scallywags be able tae achieve victories in their skirmishes, or will they faulter an’ have tae walk the plank before ye can say “Avast ye”? Thar be only one way tae find out!
Come for the weather. Stay for the fitba. Leave for somewhere prettier.

The Sleepy Rangers Fan Chronicle

Ever since publication of the Sleepy Rangers Fan Chronicle took a hiatus following the World Cup, Sleepy Guy had been wondering whether he needed new blood to lessen his workload. The World Cup had him stressed out his nut, and he needed to find fellow Rangers fans to dedicate certain areas of work to.

Sleepy Guy: ”Hello, guys! It’s me, your usual host. Now, I’ve got a very exciting announcement to make involving the future of the Sleepy Rangers Fan Chronicle, and let me tell you - it’s not going to be so sleepy anymore! Without further ado, allow me to introduce some of our new editors!”

The camera panned to the left, and revealed a guy who was slumped over his chair, drooling.

Sleepy Guy: ”This is Drunk Guy. As you can tell, he’s aff his nut following a pub crawl he had the night before. Ignore him for now.”

Drunk Guy: *intense slurred speech*

Sleepy Guy: ”Absolutely right, my friend. Now, moving on...”

The camera panned further to the left once more, and revealed a man who was wide-eyed, and twitching in his seat.

Sleepy Guy: ”...we have our good friend Energetic Guy. Say hi, dude!”

Energetic Guy: ”Ohmygodimsohappytobehereonthisbelovedshow *inhale* likehonestlyicantbelieveitifeelsohighrightnow *inhale* oristhatjusttheninecansofredbull”

Sleepy Guy: ”I think you’re just elated to be here, the red bull has nothing to do with it! Now, to my right hand side...”

The camera panned to the right, revealing a man who looked a lot like a Neanderthal.

Prehistoric Guy: ”I like Gers. You like Gers. Gers score goals. Ug grug.”

Sleepy Guy: ”Straight to the point, as always! Now, last - but certainly not least - we have the beautiful...”

The camera panned further to the right again, to reveal a strikingly pretty woman with ginger hair.

Sleepy Guy: ”...Cute Girl. Say hi, lassie!”

Cute Girl: ”Hiya gang! I’m really excited to be a part of this team, we’re all in this together, aren’t we?”

Sleepy Guy: ”Absolutely, sweethea-”

At that moment, Cute Girl backhanded Sleepy Guy across the face effectively, before shouting at him.

Cute Girl: ”Dinnae you be patronising me like that again, you hear?! I’m just hear to talk about the football, not to hear these stupid comments from you or the other three, right?”

Sleepy Guy, rubbing his cheek: ”Sorry! I didnae mean it. My mum always taught me to compliment all the girls I talked to - no wonder I’ve never managed to get a girl.”

Cute Girl: ”No wonder. Anyhow, let’s actually get to talking about the football, ya bunch of arseholes!

Prehistoric Guy: ”Who best Ger on pitch?”

Energetic Guy: ”ThatsaneasychoiceandimgoingtohavetosaythatitsYanisKentis *inhale* becauseheplayswithsuchspeedandagility *inhale* thatdefendersstruggletocatchhim!”

Sleepy Guy: ”Although our viewers might have to slow that down when they’re watching this, I totally agree. Kentis has been crucial to the few victories we’ve had, as we saw in the match against Krytenia.”

Drunk Guy snored himself awake, before deciding to get a comment in.

Drunk Guy: ”Celtic can... suck my arse! Haw haw!”

Sleepy Guy: ”Good point, Drunk Guy. Good point.”

Cute Girl: ”I can’t say I agree. Alanis Gregorikis has been putting in shift after shift for this team, and he compensates often for the mistakes that the defenders make!”

Prehistoric Guy: ”She speaks the truth. Goal man best man. Ugg grug ug ug.”

Sleepy Guy: ”Well, I think we’re nearing our time limit for today - join us next time for our video on our performance in the first two matches!”

Nation Name: The Galactic Empire of Kohnhead
Shorter Name: Kohnhead
Nation Trigramme: KND
Record: 39-16-23 (W-D-L
WCC Record: 25-12-18 (W-D-L)
Inaugural Match: Starcom Racing 3 - 1 Kohnhead
Achievements: First Place at the 2nd Wonder Cup, Round of 16 at 72nd BOF, 5th place in group 2 of WC85 qualfiers, Round of 16 at 77th Cup of Harmony, Round of 16 at the 10th IAC
Top Scorer: Aaron Korkson (40)
Most Assists: Linus Rallyton (22)
Most Caps: Charles Laker (78)

Team Info: The Brains surpassed all expectations and turned many heads at their original attempt at qualifying as we came in 6th in our group but that doesn't tell the whole story. We were in it until the second to last match where Drawkland eliminated us by winning 5-4. We have also impressed in virtually every other competition we have been in except for last qualifiers where we did extremely poorly (but don't talk about it). The Michale White error starts here in the CoH, can we turn around our fortunes.

The official roster of the KNFT consists of the following players for the World Cup qualifying. It has players from the KFL (Kohnhead Football League), as well as some who play on teams abroad.

Starting XI
(C) Forward: Aaron Korkson #91 (M) Age: 24 Team: Kohnhead City FC
Caps: 75 Goals: 40 Assists: 17
The 24 year old captain played very well at the Baptism of Fire before their loss in the round of 16. He also was one of the main reasons they were able to do so well in the World Cup 85 qualifiers. He's a strong leader and is able to score goals pretty easily. He and Maltos are the stars on Kohnhead City FC and on national team. He will be entering his prime soon and leads the squad in goals by a large amount. He did poorly during qualifying and if we want to get back to our peak he needs to play well.

Forward: Erin Maltos #10 (F) Age: 24 Team: Kohnhead City FC
Caps: 75 Goals: 29 Assists: 16
Erin Maltos is very good. While Korkson may have 10 more goals, the impact she has on the game when she's plays cannot be understated and although there are times and there are some games where she may disappear into the shadow of other stars, she has the best footwork on the team and a deadly shot. She like Korkson will be reaching her prime soon and it will be good to see.

Central Attacking Mid: Audrey Henderson #9 (F) Age: 23 FC Kohnface City
Caps: 56 Goals: 11 Assists: 10
For the longest time, Henderson was our top sub off of the bench especially in the midfield and she stepped up big time when Cogginter went down early on during the qualifiers at World Cup 85. Despite this it seemed that the young Henderson may never be given a spot to start until finally before our inaugural IAC, Coach Kohnhead decided to give her the starting spot in for Hannah Horsford as we transitioned to a 4-3-1-2. Henderson played extremely well at said IAC and has not looked back since. She played eh during qualifiers but Michael White will keep the 4-3-1-2 and will keep her as a starter but Henderson will need to play better

Right Mid: Ida Cogginter #41 (F) Age: 29 Team: Kohnhead City FC
Caps: 57 Goals: 10 Assists: 11
Two years ago before our BOF many thought Audrey Henderson the then young 21 year old would have her spot. Cogginter proved those doubters wrong and had a fantastic tournament. She really is a big part in the flow of the offense and has great skills as a passer. Cogginter plays second fiddle on Kohnhead City to Korkson and Maltos but she really played well in the BOF and some claim her injury was the reason Kohnhead didn't make it to the quarters. Despite her injury troubles in the qualifiers for World Cup 85 she has returned as good as ever in the Cup of Harmony and in the IAC. It was a bold move to give her the starting spot originally and it was a bold move to give it back to her upon her return to injury but she has deserved it both times.

Center Mid: Linus Rallyton #11 (M) Age: 26 Team: FC Yassaca (Sqornshelous Remnant States)
Caps: 74 Goals: 11 Assists: 22
It didn't take long for Linus Rallyton to show that he was the best player in Kohnhead and it happened during our Baptism of Fire as he looked dominant. He is our all time leader in assists with 18 and he controls the game from the center of the field as that guy. Last offseason he completed a massive move to FC Yassaca in the Squornshelan Remnant States as he looks to put them over the top. Rallyton is in top shape even after his injury in our second match at the IAC last year.

Left Mid: Charles Laker #54 (M) Age: 21 Team: Barnley FC
Caps: 78 Goals: 15 Assists: 12
In the two years since our Baptism of Fire we have seen the emergence of Charles Laker on the left side of this midfield. His talent, skills, and maturity level have grown exponentially and he will keep getting better in the years ahead. Laker is the only player to have played (he has started them all) in every single game in Kohnhead's brief history, and he has played every minute of every game showing just how much of an ironman he has been. The one good thing to come out of qualifiers was Laker ascending to a superstar and possibly overtaking Rallyton in terms of skill.

Right Back: Callie Porsha #42 (F) Age: 20 Kohnhead City University
Caps: 49 Goals: 2 Assists: 3
Porsha following CPL's well documented struggles has taken over the starting right back spot for the time being however Coach White has indicated she will be on thin ice as many would have preferred Taylor Rodar taking over. Will Porsha prove she is a good right back or will Rodar overtake her in the starting XI.

Center Back: Miranda Atkinson #51 (F) Age: 20 Barnley FC
Caps: 64 Goals: 2 Assists: 4
Miranda Atkinson has been the second best player on the defense since she became a starter midway through the Baptism of Fire, two years ago. Since then she has improved, just reached, 20, and not to mention won the MVP with Barnley FC in season 1 of the KFL. She like a lot of this team has her best days ahead of her and will be the starter for a long time.

Center Back: Claire Corton #24 (F) Age: 27 Team: Swisston City FC
Caps: 56 Goals: 2 Assists: 2
Corton had a rough start to the BoF, with some saying her and Vargas were the major problem with the team. She stepped it up a bit later in the tournament but overall had a rough BOF. Since then she has been a real redemption story playing extremely well, a lot better than when Callie Porsha had to step in as her replacement. Corton is still in the prime of her career, but she was injured midway through last 85's qualifiers causing her to miss the entire Cup of Harmony. Hopefully she can put those injury questions behind her.

Left Back: Nicholas Radison #14 (M) Age: 25 Team: FC Kohnface City
Caps: 77 Goals: 5 Assists: 5
Radison has been the best defender by far. He has the pace to run up and down the wings which is something you always look for in a wing back. Radison has consistently been the lone saving grace of the defense but now the defense is much improved which will take the burden off of his back especially with the emergence of Atkinson, from Claire Corton. Radison is just entering his prime at age 25. He has also been asked to play more of a role in the offense with his speed down the wings.

Goalkeeper: Bertha Sanders #1 Age: 22 (F) Team: Philtront Pioneers
Caps: 29 Goals: 0 Assists: 0
After starting for Kohnhead at the most recent U-21 World Cup/DBC, Sanders in a surprise move was named the National Team starter over Madison Richards for the IAC. Richards continued to be on the bench as Sanders who looked good at the DBC took over for the legend that was Jackson Newcastle. Newcastle has also returned to and will be a member of the coaching staff and will especially be helping Sanders. It appears as if Coach Kohnhead made another smart move as she looked great at the IAC and could be the starter for the next 15 years. Qualifiers were more difficult for her but she should bounce back here at the CoH.

Captain: Korkson
Left Free Kick: Rallyton
Right Free Kick: Rallyton
Right Corner: Rallyton
Left Corner: Rallyton
Penalties: Korkson or Maltos

Formation: 4-3-1-2. It has two center backs, two full backs, three midfielders, a central attacking midfielder and two strikers.

Coach: Michael White (M) (South Newlandia)

Bench
Forward: Griffin Phoenix-Anderson #68 (M) Age: 35 Nickelson FC
Caps: 16 Goals: 1 Assists: 1
Pheonix-Anderson got some playing time early in the BOF as a substitute for Richman but with the formation change I don't expect him to get any more barring injury. He looked fine for a sub in those games. He played a grand total of 9 minutes in the game Richman was forced into starting due to Korkson's suspension against Kita-Hinode. Pheonix-Anderson has already announced he is retiring at the end of the next season at age 36 and this CoH will be the last tournament of his career.

Goalkeeper: Madison Richards #72 (F) Age: 32 Nickelson FC
Caps: 4 Goals: 0 Goals: 0
Richards proved to be a suitable backup in the 3 games that she started last time in place of Jackson Newcastle as she despite some nerves in the first one settled down. At age 32, she will probably remain the backup for the rest of her career as Bertha Sanders has looked very good so far.

Defensive Mid: Hannah Horsford #2 (F) Age: 31 Team: Philtront Pioneers
Caps: 37 Goals: 4 Assists: 4
Horsford got into the starting XI due to a formation change which removed Harry Richman from the striker during the BOF and added her as a defensive midfielder. Overall I thought she was pretty eh the entire time in which she was a starter. Now on the bench, she will not see a lot more minutes but she served her purpose extremely well.

Forward: Thomas Stratford #12 (M) Age: 21 Nickelson FC
Caps: 6 Goals: 1 Assists: 0
Stratford has barely played for the National team but with both Griffin Pheonix-Anderson and Harry Richman getting on with age he could pass them and become the best striker on the bench. He recently graduated from University and succesfully returned to his club of Nickelson to pair with GPA and Madison Richards. As of right now he's the third choice striker off of the bench but some say he might be surpassing Pheonix-Anderson and Richman sooner rather than later.

Forward: Harry Richman #77 (M) Age: 33 Team: Barnley FC
Caps: 37 Goals: 10 Assists: 4
Harry Richman has come in clutch for this team. He plays 65 minutes a game when he starts yet is ready to come off the bench and give this team a spark whenever necessary. He has come off the bench before and performed extremely well. He is still the first choice striker off the bench but Stratford may surpass him soon.

Back: Dylan Vargas #23 (M) Age: 31 Team: Swisston City FC
Caps: 17 Goals: 1 Assists: 1
Vargas what a disgrace. A starter who was so bad he was moved to the last spot on the bench and may never see playing time again for Kohnhead that's how bad he was. I don't want to talk about him. At this point he is hanging on to his National Team spot by a thread with numerous reports suggesting this may be the last time he's on the team.

Mid: Al Torgan #21 (M) Age: 28 Team: Capital FC (Sylestone)
Caps: 32 Goals: 3 Assists: 2
Al Torgan is the first choice midfielder off the bench ahead of both Barter, and Johnson and he showed this in the IAC. He scored twice in that tournament including the winner against Port Ember while he played in place of the injured Linus Rallyton. While he isn't as talented as Rallyton he played his best and turned many heads.

Mid: Suzanna Barter #60 (F) Age: 19 Team: Real Dawson
Caps: 2 Goals: 0 Assists: 1
Barter replaced Balmer on the squad as they like the upside that Barter offers more than they like Balmer's as Barter is only 19. Suzanna really emerged in season 1 of the the KFL on a surprise Real Dawson squad that made the Challengers. Barter got her only cap (it was a start) in the match against Delaclava which was a friendly and she record an assist. Despite this, Sophie Johnson is ahead of her on the depth chart.

Mid: Sophie Johnson #7 (F) Age: 20 Team: Kohnhead City FC
Caps: 6 Goals: 1 Assists: 0
The story for Johnson is the same as the story for Barter. Both have lots of talent but may never see serious playing time for the National team with Rallyton, Laker, Cogginter, Henderson, possibly Horsford, and possibly Torgan in front of them. Johnson notched her first career goal for the NT late in qualifiers.

Right Back: Caroline Prius-Lenoard #76 (F) Age: 33 Team: Barnley FC
Caps: 63 Goals: 01 Assists: 4
Prius-Leonard didn't start out too well as the entire defense struggled during our Baptism of Fire but since then she has been a constant at right back and has really turned her game around. CPL is getting up there in age and while she has missed only three games as part of the team she has a bad injury history and at 33 many people are worried how much longer she can keep playing at a high level as she has publicly flirted with retiring before this domestic league season and Barnley don't know her future plans. CPL looked old, slow, and fatigued during qualifers with resulted in her being benched for the first time. Rodar is now ahead of her on the depth chart.

Back: Taylor Rodar #15 (F) Age: 21 Team: New Capetown Falcons (Taeshan)
Caps: 1 Goals: 0 Assists: 0
Rodar after leaving Bingham City was called up to the National team as possibly the second center back off of the bench behind Porsha. Rodar didn't play too well at the DBC and Bingham City were awful during their relegation year but they know her skill level and everyone knows a new team in the New Capetown Falcons could mean wonders for her career. The question of her or Porsha, and who will replace CPL when she inevitably retires is a question on everyone's mind as Rodar can play on the outside as well.

Corrupt Dictatorship

Postby Astograth » Mon Sep 28, 2020 5:37 pm

The narrow streets of upper Medrano were nearly empty as Louis Vaudrail and Ibai Kiriano made their way through the neighbourhood. It was a residential area of low-rise buildings, sheer façades of mid-6th century modernism, and though the lights were on inside, no sound spilled out on the street. Kiriano found it unsettling. He turned up the collar of his black trench coat and tipped the fedora over his face. Vaudrail had balked at the idea of these clever disguises, but who knew who could be watching.

They rounded the local grocery shop on the corner, closed for the day, and walked past the also-shuttered baker, pet shop and stylist. The fourth storefront was split in two cramped halves: on the right a printing shop, on the left a shopfront of heavily tinted glass and a large collage of illustrations of people undergoing cosmic enlightenment. Coloured auras and glowing beams of energy flowed around and through them. Above, the sign featured an eye within a triangle, next to

THE MASTER
DIVINATION -- TAROT -- EXORCISM -- GIFTS
NO REFUNDS + CASH ONLY

Vaudrail stared up at the sign, blinking. Kiriano looked at him.

“This is the place.”

“You’re sure,” said the manager, ungluing his eyes only to look at the pictures on the shop window.

“Tzordiniko street, number 1093. Yeah, this is it.”

“1093,” muttered Vaudrail. “Look,” he said, and pointed. Above the collage was a white sheet of paper with a printed message in default font, hastily taped to the glass.

GOOD VIBES ONLY -- NO CHROMATIKS, NO ““ELVES””, NO SARGOSSANS

“Is that even legal?” asked Vaudrail.

Kiriano swallowed. “Uh, no. Not that sign, no. But this guy is, I assure you. Very recommended.”

“Why is ‘elves’ in quotes? In double quotes?”

Kiriano pushed on the door. “You can ask him yourself, boss.”

Inside, the assistant manager wondered if the glass had been tinted at all. It was dark, sparsely illuminated with neon lights in shifting tones of blue and purple. Tall shelves brimming with books, decks of cards, candles, incense, figurines and other things neither man knew the names of rose on either side of a tiny corridor, at the end of which sat a young woman behind a desk. Her heavy black-and-white makeup stood out all the more in the glowing light of a computer screen.

“Can I help you,” she asked flatly.
“We have an appointment,” said Vaudrail, approaching the desk, “for seven thirty.”

The attendant glanced at the computer and back at the duo. “Misters Richelieu and Ormache?”

“Yes! Yes, that’s us” exclaimed Kiriano, getting ahead of Vaudrail before he blew their cover. He’d forgotten to brief him on that part, but imagine if this got out to the press!

The woman looked at him, then Vaudrail, then back to Kiriano. Her eyes narrowed slightly.

“Were you guys in a band? I’ve seen you somewhere.”

“Haha, no, no. We’re nobody,” affirmed Kiriano, gritting his teeth. “Nobody important.”

“Uh-huh. Well, you can go on ahead that way,” she said, gesturing toward a thick velour curtain to their left.

Kiriano was closest. He stepped forward and stuck his hand out to part the heavy drapes. Heat and smoky tendrils billowed out, followed by a foul herbal stench that was not any incense or tobacco or any other burnable he’d ever smelled.

The hall beyond was even darker and narrower, with a single red light above and choked with smoke, or perhaps vapours. The men turned sideways to scoot along faster, and walked past padlocked doors and several bead curtains before stepping through another set of embroidered drapes.

There, sitting upon a cushioned floor, behind a circular candelabrum surely meant to be hung, was a man in woollen robes of complex coloured patterns. On his head, a hat of four horns, from which hung countless braids.

His massive black beard shined in the light of the candles, and parted to reveal a set of impeccable, grinning white teeth. “Misters Vaudrail and Kiriano, welcome. I am The Master.”

Princess Kate from Naked News Jeruselem and Jeruselem manager Boris Lancaster

Kate: Hello, this is Princess Kate or just Kate San for Naked News Jeruselem! I'm with the talking mop Boris Lancaster, the current Jeruselem manager. Well ... at the moment that is. We're in Ethane, one of the hosts of the Cup of Harmony. The other host is Sylestone.
Boris: Well hello hello
Kate: After the World Cup 86 qualifying fiasco when we finished like 5th in Group 2, aftering being 7th halfway. We did improve in the 2nd half but it was too late with 95X qualifying holding off Tequilo. for 2nd spot. You have have been given an ultimatum.
Boris: Yes yes
Kate: Well do tell us ...
Boris: But you already know what is it

Kate: I do but it's up to you to be the one to tell us
Boris: My future depends on my performance in this Cup of Harmony ... err ... what number was that
Kate: 78
Boris: Yes yes
Kate: So how well do you have to do?
Boris: Pretty much make the finale

Kate: We only made the 2nd round last Cup of Harmony, barely.
Boris: We'll do much better this time.
Kate: I'm surprised you haven't been fired yet
Boris: Oh that ... they couldn't get anyone to replace me in time
Kate: We did improve on the 2nd half qualification including wins over higher seeds, so can we repeat this in this cup
Boris: The team has the capability to win

Kate: So, what happened in the 1st of half qualification? We were being fall guys instead of football players?
Boris: We just had a few teething issues
Kate: What it took us 9 games to sort out the team
Boris: Yes
Kate: Well don't have that time in the Cup of Harmony
Boris: Yeah I know

Kate: You know even in the Cup of Harmony, there's plenty of teams who are just better.
Boris: Err yes
Kate: Will you do anything different this time round?
Boris: Not really
Kate: So you've got some kind of working formula now?
Boris: Yes oven ready and all.

Kate: Not the half-baked one you started with in the World Cup
Boris: This one works. We'll do really well this time.
Kate: You have a Plan B? You know in case you don't have a job after this?
Boris: Yes yes
Kate: What's Plan then?
Boris: I'll find a job in the JPL, no worries.

Kate: There's a lot of younger managers out there who think otherwise and think they can do better than you
Boris: I'm an old dog but they don't know much compared to me
Kate: I dunno, world cup 85 you did alright but we've got worse results in 86 and you're saying you've learnt from the last one
Boris: We just had some bad luck
Kate: It wasn't bad management?
Boris: Not that, nothing to do with me.

Kate: OK, we've being placed in Group H. Along with 6 other teams. The group stage is 8 groups of 7, meaning there's going to be byes.
Boris: Byes are good
Kate: Yeah because you're a lazy ass. Other teams in our group are Oberour Ar Moro, Omerica, Springmont, Northwest Kalactin. Taeshan, and Savigliane
Boris: Good thing I don't have to spell those names!
Kate: You can barely read. Anyway. Group H as well as E,F and G are hosted in Ethane. Group A to D are in Sylestone.
Boris: Details don't anyway.

Kate: I'm sure we've encountered Taeshan before. Taeshan is a familiar team to us. Not sure about the others ...
Boris: I have no idea who they are.
Kate: They just happen to be ranked 23rd compared to our 51. Omerica 61, Northwest Kalactin 87, Oberour Ar Moro 93, Savigliane 134 and Springmont 151. So if anyone - they are the ones to fear.
Boris: We'll be fine
Kate: I've heard that before, a lot.
Boris: Nothing to worry about

Kate: Well, that's all from us at the moment. We'll see what happens during the qualification of the Cup of Harmony 78.
Boris: We'll win it
Kate: Yes well ... for your sake.
Boris: Yeah ...

Cup of Harmony 78

ANOTHER DREAM
Cup of Harmony Preview

New Lusitania find themselves back in the Cup of Harmony, the respectable competition of fierce football who just missed out on the big one, the World Cup. This year the competition has a completely different manner to it though as the number of teams has been expanded to 56 teams in 8 groups, translating in 7 in each pool. The move was made by Ethane and Sylvestone who are moving under the moniker "Two Small Nations, One Large Dream" as they host this tournament together after they too missed out on glory over in Newmanistan and Drawkland. As usual, this doesn't mean the competition is made up of smaller teams with the top dog being 23rd in the world, this being Taeshan but go down all the way to Pluvian and the Saxian Isles who overperformed and got an entry as well. Always the tourney of teams knocking out the door only one can be crowned the winner and popularly "the best of the rest", something all teams here are keen on.
New Lusitania have been ordered to travel to the magical and intriguing nation of Sylvestone's part of the competition following the draw into Group B making the city of Chamberley their base for the next couple of matches. Surrounded by a mysterious rainforest, the Selecção may have to make some climate adjustments and adaptations but the hope is to do well in a congested calendar.
A challenging group, New Lusitania have to make sure they're in the top four teams come the end of the first phase. To do so, they have to come up against several teams, the top seed being Geektopia (WR 41). It was always going to be hard for them to get into the World Cup Qualification fight with a group including both Kelssek and Equestria. Statistically, the defence could be to blame as the attacking portion was the best in the group, raking in 49 goals scored compared to the above's 45 and 47, respectively. It isn't unreasonable to believe in something here as it isn't too outlandish, if they have done their homework there are some locations to exploit but they'll need to keep sturdy at the back.
The Selecção (WR57) scraped into pot two, showing that they're recent cycles have caused a slight descent in the pecking order. There is no place like the Cup of Harmony to turn it around though! The team, commanded for the first time in a WCC-sanctioned tournament finals by Francisco Grilo, will be looking to go far. Back in one of Equestria's hostings (COH74), land of Harmony itself, New Lusitania got to the quarter-finals before getting knocked-out by Qusmo. A good percentage of that team, still young and hopeful are still here. Grilo's team is an interesting one which blends of experience and vision in the ageing players and vitality as well as edge in the younger generation. This continuing transition period, originally announced in Santa Cruz's last cycle and departure has posed many questions from the Call-up to the form and tactics of the squad itself. At the very last minute for example, Nevais was left out for Sporting CL's João Palhagueira which had impressed in his few qualifying shots as well as Soares which takes over from Trincal. The team is expected to be interchangeable from game to game between a 3-4-3 and a 4-3-3, a transformation based on the predecessor's work. The defence will remain on marking and pressure tactics, attempting to close play whilst wingers attempt to restrict the opposition's playing field. The attack can largely occur on said wings with Gama, Horta, Guerra, Cancela and other such players, though the ball usually has some form of creation in the middle of the park with captain Fernando. Veiga's job sees a bridge in the hole as the ball attempts to get fed to either him or principally the two strikers. The tactics seem familiar in some places though Grilo's seems to depend a bit more on efficiency and defence than Santa Cruz. Whether this tournament will go well is a sheer test of will and hope from both the coach and the players which have been inconsistent since the previous edition of the competition with 78 being a redemption project, especially after a qualifying cycle which featured some great moments against some of the top countries but ended up being shadowed by sloppy losses to smaller sides - particularly at the start and a fourth place finish following a last day draw to Damukuni (2-2)
Third seed is Kohnhead (WR71) which have now gone from sensation to a more known side. Teams came more prepared and the team ended up seventh in their qualification group with a mere 18 points. The draw means a third match this cycle for them against Geektopia with a previous 3-3 draw at home and a 6-2 defeat away. On a positive and more concerning note to their rivals, Kohnhead are a team who have proven they can play tournament football meaning that they're still a problem. Pot Four sees the return of Valladares to the Lusitanian path, a team so well known in the early days for defeats though some points were later taken. Now 82nd in the rankings, the team attempts to rise back to their former glory. A respectable fifth was practically the minimum for the team in these qualifiers, especially when the teams ahead were Siovanija & Teusland, Turori, Omerica and a ressurgent Astograth. It was a campaign not only marked by nine draws but also by only four defeats showing real resilience in such a group and provides a real threat in such a group scenario. The team is (in)famously known for great sweeping attacks which really worked in their favour during the qualifiers but with almost as many conceded as scored (+4 goal differential), there's no doubt it'll be a great match.
Pot Five gave us the Cheergirls, a relatively unknown nations which is now 92nd. The team came home a good fourth in Group 18 behind staples Baker Park, Savojarna and Mercedini who had fought valiantly for qualification between each other. A team of ups and downs, it is also of notice that they can be efficient and graceful as the wheeled themselves on with only 16 goals scored but the negative goal difference with 17 conceded shows not only low numbers but also an interesting case study we'll learn more about as the tournament goes on.
Familiar faces Squidroidia (104) also feature in the group. With as many wins as losses in the qualifiers, they managed fifth with a negative goal difference ahead of Devonta on the head to head but behind Cassadaigua, Québec, MNM and Flavovespia, the cycle can be considered a win so far considering their ranking. 163rd Orion Islands are the final team in Group B, having played the Cheergirls during the qualifiers, in which the latter beat them both times by a 1-0 margin. Despite some decent results, the Orion Islands are still forming and are aiming high at the tournament following an eighth place finish.
Plenty of good football is on the way as New Lusitania first face Kohnhead and then the Cheergirls. Elsewhere, Granitfjall face Mercedini, Flavovespia and Huayramarca meet and Indusse play Astograth once more. Omerica play Taeshan in a behemoth of a match but Sargossa Vs. Abanhfleft might turn a few heads as well. Hosts Ethane have their first match against Tequilo whilst other hosts Sylvestone on the other side of the draw must play The Jovannic. With such a great start, it's mad not to miss the Cup of Harmony as well as the World Cup...

Marshall Jones (Head of Kohnhead Football): Everyone knows why I am here today, we are officially announcing after a thorough search the next manager of the National Kohhead Football Team. This manager is who we thought would be the best choice for the job and will be taking over at the 78th Cup of Harmony. Please welcome our brand new Manager the former assisstant National Team coach of South Newlandia, Michael White!

Curtains open behind him to reveal Michael White the new manager, cheers follow

Michael White: Thank you so much to Mr. Jones, and everyone who made this possible. I am extremely excited to be working in Kohnhead and as I'm sure both Irving and Gurero can tell you, this is a great place to be. My interview with Lillian Barter of KNN was pre-recorded Yesterday and will now be shown for your pleasure. Again thank you to everyone and I'm excited to take over such a talented squad.

Barter: Mr. White what do you bring to the table that our former coach Christopher Kohnhead didn't bring and why can you take this team to the next level.

White: For starters I would like to say Christopher did a great job, was beloved by his players, and so I have big footsteps to follow. While in the end he couldn't match the high expecations they as a team had gotten he has agreed to assist me in an advisory role and his prescense will be felt on our team. He will help to keep the core, formation, and style stabilized while I will add some more things to the table myself. I come from a team in South Newlandia that has historically been more defensive than we have here in Kohnhead, I plan on implementing ways to make the defense improve something that the team struggled at during the last qualifiers.

Mainly I bring international experience, I coached in SNL's match against Kohnhead so I have that angle and look to bring a new mindset to the squad.

Barter: You mentioned the high expectations that we failed to hit during qualifiers, how will you raise the ceiling and bring us back to top form?

White: I'm glad you asked this question. As has been well documented heading into the most recent qualifiers expectations were sky high as some even had The Brains as a team that could make the playoffs. This of course did not happen in part because of these sky high expectations, I will help teach our squad how to not just embrace the underdog mentality like they have done so many times but how to deal with expectations, how to not play down to inferior opponents, and how to come back from such an awful performance like we had at qualifiers. It has been shown that we have talent and skill I will hopefully be able to take us to the next level.

Barter: How will you deal with the young talent on the roster and in Kohnhead? Can you harness their potential?

White: As has been seen the future is bright for Kohnhead in football. The U-21 team is coming off of a semifinals appearance at the DBC and we see 4 members of that team on our current roster including the starting goalkeeper in Sanders. Rodar, Johnson, and Barter will get their opportunities in the future, Rodar in particular is our backup right back. We see the U-18 team do very well at the SWC as well and some of those players will get their callups soon in the future.

I am blessed to have a great coaching staff around me, Wendy, Chistopher, Lorainne down with the U-21s and Chris with the U-18s along with so many others can really help this youth develop and grow. However our entire team has lots of youth in the starting XI as well as the necessary experience to go along with it.

Barter: One last question, how far can we expect to go in the Cup of Harmony? Last time we won our group and made it all the way to the round of 16 before losing by one goal to the eventual champs in Kandorith.

White: I see no reason why we can't make it as far if not farther than last time. This team is better, is more talented, and from speaking to some of the players I know they will all be motivated to go out there and avenge the losses from the World Cup qualifiers. We were embarrassed multiple times in that and we have a chance to take down Geektopia who beat us 6-2 during qualifiers.

Barter: Mr. White thank you for your time, I know we are all excited to see what you can do with this team.

White: Thank you for having me I'm extremely greatful and excited for this opportunity.

The Tranquil Isles of Riena
First-team squad for Cup of Harmony 78

For opponents
I give my opponents permission to roleplay anything within reason, save for cycle- or career-ending injury and death of my players. If you think a particular event may be too unrealistic or outlandish, feel free to contact me either via telegram or Discord to discuss. You can also contact me if you need me to furnish further details for your roleplay.

Please do not roleplay anything pandemic-related in relation to Riena or Riennese characters. I will not be recognising the existence of any pandemic in any form whatsoever.

Please also note that I will usually update my records for the Riena national team in the hours following a scorination. I would appreciate it if you could take a minute to check here for the Riena starting XI, goalscorers, and substitutions before beginning work on your posts. In the event that I have not gotten around to updating the records, feel free to roleplay the match as you see fit - given the brand of fluid football Riena plays, as well as the versatility of Riennese players in general - you have a lot of scope to be creative with just about anything football-related!

For hosts
Please apply a style modifier of 0 - thank you.

Players listed in orange are starters in their respective positions. All statistics are accurate as of the start of this tournament.

1 • Miho MINATO
Goalkeeper; 22; 50 caps; 9 clean sheets

A steady and reliable shot-stopper, Minato is a physically imposing presence in goal. She is not a flamboyant technician and dislikes taking unnecessary risks with the ball, preferring to quickly recycle possession into her defenders or midfielders. Owing to her physical advantage, Minato is a goalkeeper who is not afraid to take charge in her own area, often taking it upon herself to catch or punch crosses into the six-yard box instead of leaving her defenders to sweep up the danger. Blessed with sharp reflexes, decent positioning, and a proactive approach to goalkeeping - especially in her own six-yard box - Minato is a calming presence behind her defenders.

25 • Subaru KUGIMIYA
Goalkeeper; 21; 8 caps; 1 clean sheet

Kugimiya is an aggressive sweeper keeper who is not afraid to help out her defenders whenever the side are caught in possession. She possesses the requisite pace and technical ability to thrive in a Riena team placing great demands on its goalkeeper's footwork. Her game revolves around shutting down opposition counterattacks using her anticipation and speed off her line, allowing the team's to adopt a higher defensive line than would otherwise be possible, and initiating attacking moves with accurate long range distribution, bypassing high pressing manoeuvres by the opposition. The high risk, high reward nature of her play style means that Kugimiya is more susceptible to committing high-profile errors and mistakes, and she can be prone to catastrophic lapses of concentration. Can be equally capable of the sublime or the farcical.

50 • Maya SHIINA
Goalkeeper; 19; 1 cap; 0 clean sheets

Shiina is a youth-team goalkeeper, and the most callow of Riena's current batch of goalkeepers. She is a good reflexive shot-stopper, but her game remains riddled with the flaws and deficiencies that one would expect from a player in the infancy of her international career, but she is a promising prospect who may well develop into a decent senior-level goalkeeper - if she manages to supplant both Minato and Kugimiya for a spot in the starting XI.

3 • Kaede IGARASHI • Vice-captain
Left-back/left wing-back; 21; 43 caps; 9 goals

The vice-captain of the team, Igarashi is a powerful, athletic left-back who can be relied upon to do her primary job of defending well. She is a largely conventional full-back, an atypical departure from Riena's abundance of suicidally-attacking wing-backs/wingers, who is actually better at keeping the ball away from her own goal than she is at forcing it home at the other end. While she is not nearly as adventurous as Uruha is, Igarashi still contributes to Riena's attacking play - she is the best crosser in the team, and her ability to strike a ball cleanly has earned her a reputation as one of Riena's set-piece specialists. Especially dangerous from free-kicks, and can be expected to go for goal more often than not. Firmly established as one of the leaders and stalwarts of this youthful team.

4 • Minami KAGURA
Right-back/right wing-back; 22; 44 caps; 2 goals

Kagura is a canny full-back who focuses on providing service from out on her flank. She is not as offensively-minded as a typical Riennese full-back, usually preferring to stay deep as part of a three-player defensive line whenever Riena are moving forward with the ball, but remains a useful option when the team are in possession due to her willingness to make lung-busting supporting runs down the right. When on the ball, she tends to eschew overplaying in the final third, preferring instead to head for the touchline and deliver crosses and cutbacks into the area. Mental fortitude is perhaps not one of her strengths, and question marks remain over Kagura's temperament and ability to stay calm under pressure after she skied the decisive penalty against Mavinet in the BoF semifinals.

6 • Yui NARITA
Central defender/defensive midfielder; 24; 27 caps; 1 goal

An elegant ball-playing central defender who is equally at home in midfield as she is in defence, Narita's main strength lies in her accurate distribution from defence. Comfortable under pressure, her distribution from deep within the defensive third is a potent weapon, especially against opposition seeking to press the team high up the pitch. Narita's ability to play in midfield also allows her to move forwards and give Riena an extra player in the middle of the park, which is always an option when the team finds itself struggling to maintain control against inferior opposition. Defensively, she can be quite vulnerable; a particular weakness is her lack of dominance in the air, which often leads to opposition attempting to target her ahead of her central defensive partner. However, her pace and progressive passing makes her an effective option in the heart of a back three, and she can fill in at the base of the midfield if necessary.

15 • Mana AMEMIYA
Central defender; 23; 51 caps; 2 goals

Amemiya is a solid, uncompromising option in central defence, usually playing the foil to more technically accomplished defenders alongside her. A robust, physically imposing defender, she is particularly strong in the air and in the tackle. While perhaps not as technically gifted as a typical Riennese player, Amemiya makes up for her technical shortcomings by adding a touch of grit and steel to complement her teammates' comparatively adventurous play. Another area in which she excels is in her instinctive reading of the game, often allowing her to be in the right place at the right time to snuff out opposition attacks at source. Amemiya can be a little slow off the mark, but she more than makes up for it with her excellent positional sense.

18 • Kano URUHA
Left-back/left wing-back/left winger; 22; 36 caps; 2 goals

A repurposed winger, Uruha is a pacy left-back whose marauding runs provide Riena with an attacking outlet down the left flank. Despite nominally being a defender, her natural attacking instincts mean that she is often effectively deployed as a wing-back, or an auxiliary winger, rather than a conventional defender. She possesses neither strength, height, or defensive nous, and has an unfortunate tendency to lose concentration when targeted. From an attacking perspective, Uruha is an accomplished dribbler who favours cutting infield with the ball to make space on the flank for her winger. Her finishing is above average for a defender, especially when she has the ball on her favoured left foot, and she is not averse to hitting speculative efforts from range.

28 • Hinata YUKIHANA
Right-back/right wing-back/central defender; 19; 6 caps; 1 goal

A versatile player capable of playing anywhere on the right side of the Riena defence, Yukihana is a steady and reliable defender with a maturity belying her tender years. While she is on the shorter side for a defender, Yukihana has the strength and athleticism to play as the right-sided central defender in a back three. From an attacking perspective, Yukihana is a willing runner, and will often bomb ahead to support the Riena attack when played in her favoured right-back position. She will serve as Kagura's understudy for this cycle, but may well make the right-back spot her own ahead of her stagnating senior - and to that end, will be given her fair share of minutes to help her development.

30 • Mao TSUKAMOTO
Central defender/right-back/defensive midfielder; 22; 45 caps; 4 goals

A no-nonsense defender with a surprising eye for a pass, Tsukamoto was once the bridesmaid to her flashy senior Narita, but a series of excellent performances during Riena's Baptism of Fire campaign has allowed Tsukamoto to overtake Narita as first-choice central defender alongside Mana Amemiya. A strong, physical defender in the mould of her central defensive partner Amemiya, Tsukamoto will be expected to bring more solidity to the Riena defence than the relatively lightweight Narita. She is a potent threat at set-pieces and is someone whom opposing defenders should keep an eye on whenever she ventures upfield to attack a dead ball.

5 • Hijiri SAKURANAMI
Central midfielder; 24; 36 caps; 1 goals; Mashu Hellownia (Hinodejin Empire)

Sakuranami is a powerful, tenacious wolfhound of a midfielder who is excellent at defending, pressing, and recycling possession. Originally a defensive anchor player, Sakuranami transitioned to a box-to-box role during Riena's BoF campaign, and has truly made the niche her own. From an attacking perspective, Sakuranami tends to arrive late in the area when Riena are on the attack, providing an additional offensive option for the team and potentially causing chaos in the opposition defence. She is not the most precise finisher in the team, but Sakuranami has a powerful shot on her, and will not hesitate to take aim from long range whenever given the chance to do so. While she has managed to improve her attacking game to fill the demands of her new role, Sakuranami remains adept at the defensive side of the game. There is nothing she enjoys more than a well-timed interception or a crunching tackle, and she is perhaps most infamous for her willingness to commit blatantly cynical challenges to break up play as necessary.

7 • Mishiro KAWAKAZE
Defensive midfielder/central midfielder; 22; 34 caps; 1 goal

A hard-running midfielder who is sometimes unfairly characterised as a water carrier or a jack-of-all-trades. Kawakaze's reputation for being a tenacious player who puts in the hard yards perhaps undersells her a little; she is a tough-tackling defensive midfielder who can do just about everything to a decent standard, including, somewhat surprisingly, putting the ball in the back of the net. While Riena do have specialists who can do specific aspects of Kawakaze's job better, the central midfielder is perhaps the best all-round player currently in the Riennese ranks. But at the same time, Kawakaze is also a victim of her own versatility, having thus far failed to nail down a starting spot ahead of her contemporaries. She may well mature to become part of Riena's first-choice midfield in time, but for now, expect to see her plugged in wherever a hole needs to be urgently filled.

8 • Tomoe ISHIBASHI
Central midfielder; 23; 28 caps; 1 goal

The playmaking metronome that keeps the team ticking over. Most of the team's build-up play goes through the languid, silky Ishibashi, who is accomplished at dictating play and controlling a game's tempo from midfield. Ishibashi's laid back style makes her a convenient target for accusations of laziness, but her undeniable ability in possession has helped her secure a spot in this Riena squad. Capable of a wide range of passing, whether it be simple square passes, fizzed crossfield attempts, or chipped through balls, Ishibashi has a keen eye for the defence-splitting pass, an attribute which dovetails well with the speed and attacking flair of Riena's forwards. Ishibashi tends to suffer from bouts of positional indiscipline, often drifting forwards into advanced positions as a game wears on. Her advanced presence can either leave yawning gaps in the midfield for savvy opponents to exploit, or allow Riena to overwhelm less tactically aware opposition. Likely to start or to be brought on whenever Riena needs a creative spark against deep-lying opponents.

10 • Aya NAKIRI • Captain
Central midfielder/attacking midfielder/center forward; 22; 43 caps; 16 goals

Perhaps the most threatening weapon in Riena's armoury, and the player most likely to create a moment of magic out of nothing. Nakiri is nominally a central midfielder, but her play style means that she is often either dropping into the hole to link up midfield and attack, or playing off the center forward's shoulder. An unerring eye for goal, a penchant for direct and effective running, as well as an excellent range of passing, means that Nakiri poses a threat to the opposition goal whenever she is given time and space on the ball. Has a fondness for the spectacular; opportunistic efforts from outside the box are a particular favourite. Despite her attacking prowess, Nakiri can be marked out of a game by an attentive defender with the pace to keep up with her. Adept in the high energy pressing style favoured by Riena, she possesses a high work rate and good stamina, and when interchanging with her center forward, is often the first line of defence for the team. One potential weakness is her inability to dovetail well with her teammates in the team's preferred 4-3-3 formation. Manager Kanata Shiranami rejigged her midfield to accommodate her most naturally talented attacker, but Nakiri's presence, or lack thereof, in midfield, still has the potential to cause severe balance issues for the team, and as a result she can be a tactical weak link that well-coached opponents may look to target.

12 • Sara KIRIMIYA
Defensive midfielder/central midfielder; 20; 45 caps; 3 goals

Kirimiya is an accomplished holding midfielder who understands that her job is to defend, and she does it exceptionally well. Although she is nominally a midfielder, she is perhaps the purest defensive player in this Riena roster. Kirimiya generally plays in a screening role in front of the defence, covering for her less-defensively inclined colleagues so that the they can focus on attacking the opposition third without worrying about leaving the team short at the back. As would be expected for a holding midfielder, Kirimiya has the positional intelligence and discipline necessary for her role, using those key attributes to break up play in midfield and quickly recycle possession to her more creative colleagues. While she is fairly decent at tackling, Kirimiya has a tendency to dive in when challenging for the ball, and has a particular preference for sliding tackles - a trait that a more unscrupulous opponent may look to exploit. Has developed a taste for booming long range rockets, though still more likely to find the stands than the back of the net.

18 • Meru MATSUKAI
Attacking midfielder/winger; 22; 35 caps; 5 goals

Matsukai is a mercurial, effervescent creative midfielder whose favoured position is in the hole, just behind her striker, but she is equally adept at playing wide out on both wings. A purer creative presence than Nakiri, she can be an option for Riena whenever they are playing against massed defences, but given Riena's abundance of attacking talent, Matsukai is generally regarded as an impact sub who can be deployed late on against flagging opponents to provide a spark for Riena. If playing on the wing, Matsukai favours cutting infield, narrowing the team's play, which can be problematic when Riena are up against a team who defend narrowly.

27 • Arisu MANO
Central midfielder; 19; 4 caps; 1 goal

Mano is an attacking-minded central midfielder who relies on her dribbling and turn of pace to break opposition lines. An energetic, enthusiastic presence in midfield, she differs from a typical Riennese midfielder in that she prefers to run with the ball and take on opposition defenders whenever afforded the opportunity to do so. Mano is very much untested on the multiversal stage, but she is expected to provide a unique tactical option off the bench for this cycle. Has the potential to play an important role as an impact sub against massed defences.

9 • Rion KANZAKI
Center forward; 22; 45 caps; 19 goals; Pascal Mashu (Hinodejin Empire)

A powerful, dominant center forward, Kanzaki is the perfect foil for the technically talented attackers in the team. Kanzaki's physical presence in the opposition penalty area often causes chaos in the ranks of opposition defenders, allowing her teammates to profit in the resulting confusion. She is a highly accomplished target man who is in her element when scoring, whether it be sweeping loose balls home from close range or sending goalkeepers sprawling with thirty-yard rockets. While comfortable scoring goals on her own, Kanzaki is also proficient at holding the ball up when receiving possession from deep, which creates opportunities for her teammates to make supporting runs beyond her. Her natural athleticism, strength, and goalscoring instincts make Kanzaki an effective spearhead of the Riena attack.

17 • Flare STEINER
Right winger/center forward; 22; 44 caps; 18 goals

Steiner, one of Riena's key attacking outlets, is a technically skillful winger with a dizzying turn of pace that allows her to leave flat-footed opponents for dead. What she brings to the table is a repertoire of attacking skills that help her create an abundance of goalscoring opportunities for her teammates, not least her ability to put the ball on a plate for her teammates to score. Steiner is a proficient dribbler who enjoys nothing more than tying defenders into knots, and will attempt to trick her way right into the opposition area if given the chance to do so. She is a player for the big stage, and tends to turn in her best performances against superior opposition. Once viewed as a profligate finisher, Steiner has matured into a prolific goalscorer, and is now one of the deadlier forwards in the team from a shooting position. Can play as part of a front two alongside a physically dominant forward partner.

20 • Cocoa HANEDA
Left winger; 20; 30 caps; 13 goals

Formerly an untested winger from the Riennese youth development programme, Haneda was drafted into the senior squad as one of the programme's top prospects, but first-choice Tsumugi Suenaga's drop in form afforded her the opportunity to play her way into the starting XI. Defying all expectations, Haneda delivered a string of excellent performances as her goals and assists propelled Riena to third place in their WCQ group, and as a result she has firmly entrenched herself as manager Kanata Shiranami's first choice out on the left wing. A direct, hard-running winger with explosive pace and a sweet left foot, Haneda has a slight frame, but makes up for her physical shortcomings with a composure and presence of mind belying her years, attributes that play well with her penchant for penetrating running and clinical finishing. A quiet player who lets her football do the talking.

21 • Rinze AYANAMI
Right winger; 21; 18 caps; 7 goals

Similarly to Haneda, Ayanami received her senior call-up by virtue of being one of the most promising talents in the Riennese youth development programme. She did not rise to prominence in the same way Haneda did, mainly because of Flare Steiner's consistently excellent displays on the right wing, but Ayanami was afforded valuable game time throughout WCQ85 as part of the team's rotation policy, and she is widely considered to have the footballing chops to develop into a strong contender for a starting spot in the cycles to come. In terms of playing style, Ayanami is a creative winger who is more of a playmaker out on the flank rather than an attacking outlet. She possesses the physical attributes to thrive as an orthodox winger, but she prefers to set up her teammates rather than go for goal herself. Ayanami remains the second choice right winger behind Steiner for this cycle, but she has firmly established herself as a valuable squad option, and will provide stiff competition for the incumbent.

24 • Towa AMATSUKA
Center forward/right winger; 20; 4 caps; 1 goal

A highly physical, hard-pressing forward who is not afraid to get stuck in, Amatsuka embraces the more agricultural aspects of the game in their entirety. She is a support-oriented target man whose primary role is to hold the ball up in support of Riena's attacking play, and is also the team's first line of defence with her tireless pressing of opposition defenders. Deceptively quick despite her build, but her finishing ability with her feet leaves a lot to be desired - for now.

26 • Hareru MIYANO
Left winger; 18; 5 caps; 1 goal

An inverted winger playing on the left, Miyano is a technical player with a repertoire of dribbling skills under her belt and the pace to match. However, her youth means that she is still a raw diamond, and she struggles to perform consistently at a high level, with a lack of end product a particular weakness. Despite her many obvious shortcomings, Miyano's selection in this Riena squad represents an opportunity for her to develop and make an impression on the coaching staff. She is unlikely to be thrown into the deep end for this cycle, but will be given playing time whenever the situation allows to aid her development and integration into the team.

KS • Kanata SHIRANAMI
Manager; 26; 26 wins, 13 draws, 14 losses; 127 GF 91 GA; +36 GD

Kanata Shiranami is slowly making a name for herself as a talented manager. Leading a squad of young, hopelessly callow players sourced from the Riena FA's elite talent development programme, she managed to eke out a fourth-placed finish at the Baptism of Fire, losing to the eventual champions Mavinet on penalties in the semifinals before tasting defeat in the third-place playoff against Tequilo. But Riena's strong performance at the Baptism was only a taster of what was to come in the World Cup. Drawn into a relatively strong Group 14, Shiranami guided her unfancied team to an improbable charge for qualification, sending even the most pessimistic Riennese fans into raptures with a string of positive results against storied footballing names such as Newmanistan and Krytenia. The crowning moment of Shiranami's short tenure as manager came on the penultimate matchday of WC85 qualifying, when her Riena side comprehensively defeated Vilita, the multiverse's finest team, by three goals to nil, an achievement only slightly undercut by Qasden gaining a point on the same matchday to qualify at the expense of the Wavelets. Under Shiranami's astute stewardship, Riena went unbeaten throughout the group stages of CoH 77, before being eliminated by Kandorith in the first knockout stage.

Shiranami's record in the Campionato Esportiva, however, has been less than stellar. Playing on home soil as the hosts of CE 27, Riena were amongst the first teams to be eliminated in the group stages after successive defeats to Vdara and Ancherion in their first two matches, the latter loss in particular casting a harsh light on the team's defensive inadequacies. Riena continued their patchy form in qualifying for the subsequent World Cup - in particular struggling mightily to put points on the board against lower-ranked teams, and it came as no surprise to observers when the team were out of contention for qualification with several games to spare. The pressure on Shiranami has only intensified with every indifferent performance on the pitch - and her future prospects may well depend on whether she can eke out a good Cup of Harmony campaign in Ethane and Sylestone.

NT • Nao TOMORI
Assistant manager; 25

Overview
Riena will tend to set up in a highly fluid 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 formation, but they are also adept at playing 3-4-3 and 3-5-2 when the situation necessitates it, primarily against technically superior opposition in which Riena are expected to have less of the ball. The team can and will rapidly transition between different formations when necessary, and Riena's players will, in general, be given freedom to roam from their assigned position as well as exchange positions with other players. The team's physical shortcomings means they will tend to play the ball short on the ground rather than looking to go long when in possession - a notable exception is in the final third, where the comparatively more physical forwards provide a useful focal point for crosses. In attack, the team will look to move the ball vertically at speed, but will also be content to patiently probe the opposition defence if there are no immediate openings. Riena is particularly reliant on the wingers in attack, and if the opposition manages to stifle Riena's wing play, they will inevitably be muzzled as an attacking threat. In defence, Riena uses a high defensive line and will try to make use of offside traps. Zonal marking is preferred at corners and free kicks.

Stadia
The Riena national team play their football matches at the Wavelet Arena, in the capital city of Nagato. The pitch dimensions are short, but wide, by multiversal standards for football pitches, facilitating wider play on the flanks. The pitch itself is usually well-watered and slick, allowing the ball to travel at speed across the natural grass surface. For teams who prefer a spot of beach football, Riena's original national sport, Riena maintains the Radiant Sands Arena, also in Nagato, with the same pitch dimensions as the Wavelet Arena, but with a sand surface instead. Riena will usually default to the Wavelet Arena, but opponents are free to specify a stadium preference if they wish to do so.

Set-piece assignments

The following set piece assignments are listed in order of priority. Positions are indicated relative to the opposition goal.
