Kalactanian Roster for the Gold Coast Basketball Tournament

Roster
Point Guard
Josh Abbott, Murwelldobah, 6-3, 194, 32 PPG, 2 RPG, 7 APG, 3 point shooter
A scrawny 3 point shooter, Josh can hit shots from anywhere on the court. His sharphshooting is famous around the nation.

Steven Stewart, Purple Town, 6-0, 170, 27 PPG, 1.8 RPG, 11 APG, Basketball IQ
A small player with tons of IQ, Steven can make a play happen from anywhere one the court.

Shooting Guard
Ricky Garza, Murwelldobah, 6-5, 205, 24 PPG, 5 RPG, 6 APG, Defender
Can guard on-ball against anyone, and has an athletic touch for the game. Can make plays happen to, but struggles on offense.

Joe Green, High School (Unsigned), 6-4, 220, 46 PPG, 11 RPG, 14 APG (HS Stats), Sharpshooter
The future of Kalactanian Basketball. Can do anything to win the game for his team. Still in high school but lots of talent.

Small Forward
Charlie Larson, Ballina, 6-8, 245, 30 PPG, 8 RPG, 4 APG, Shooter
A tall, but relatively skinny shooter, Charlie is a nightmare from mid range. Hits shots from everywhere, the other team is never safe playing him.

Billy Bell, Gold Coast, 6-7, 239, 19 PPG, 11 RPG, 5 APG, Rebound Chaser
A short rebound chaser with lots of talent, Billy is a strong player. He grabs lots of boards on the offensive end, and often saves offensive plays.

Power Forward
Jorge Sutton, Yamba, 6-10, 260, 31 PPG, 10 RPG, 2 APG, Athletic Finisher
An athletic magic man with great ball handling, Jorge is one of the best players on the team. Draws lots of fouls on offense and can move around anyone. Once recorded with a 44 inch vertical jump, he is a force to be reckoned with.

Chris Parker, Coffs, 6-11, 23 PPG, 7 RPG, 6 APG, Do-everything Big Man
A big man with lots of tools, Chris can bring his power to any part of the game. He focuses on no particular part, but is strong in all areas.

Center
Michael Hughes, Coffs, 7-1, 290, 33 PPG, 12 RPG, 4 APG, 4 BPG, Paint Finisher
Big, Strong, Center. Great on both sides of the ball, although does struggle a good bit from the charity stripe. Look for him to over power opponents in the paint, and try to force balls out to wing on defense.

Roy Carter, Gold Coast, 7-0, 255, 21 PPG, 13 RPG, 1 APG, Back to the Basket Center
Young, classic center. Has lots of strength, although can’t seem to figure out mid-range balls.

RP Permissions
Whatever you can do I can do.

by South Newlandia
South Newlandian roster for the Gold Coast Basketball Tournament

Basketball isn’t among the big three sports in South Newlandia (Football, Baseball, Chess), and doesn’t have a professional league structure. That doesn’t mean that no one plays Basketball in South Newlandia: There is an amateur league with 40 teams, none of them professional and mostly based on amateur players, who train once a week at most. This league doesn’t play 48 minutes, but rather only 40. In addition to that, the current situation in Northwest Kalactin has prompted the South Newlandian government to warn travellers to not travel to the country unless absolutely necessary. Because of that, sending an all-star team, that hasn’t even trained together a whole lot, to the currently slightly explosive situation in Northwest Kalactin, to play a variant of basketball they haven’t ever played before, has been called “nonsensical at best, and downright stupid and naive at worst” by various experts. No one from the team, and certainly not the coach or any fans basketball may or may not have in South Newlandia is expecting anything from the tournament, but that is going to mean that the team isn’t trying their best.

Roster:

Head coach: Matthias Tsholz (St. Riecarn Monks, 43)
The coach of the Monks, one of most successful coaches in the league (maybe because the majority of teams doesn’t even have a coach), has agreed to travel with the team to Northwest Kalactin. There is nothing too special about him; he is a decent coach, but not anything revolutionary.

Point Guard: Larry Silas (Ratzupalfu Rhinos, 25)
Silas, playing for one of the most successful South Newlandian teams, is very good at reading plays and being able to react to them. He also is a pretty strong defender, with both blocks and steals, but don’t expect him to score a lot of points, especially not with fast breaks.

Shooting Guard: Bob Koality (Moocha Cows, 31)
The aging star Koality is pretty good at shooting 3s, and doesn’t do a whole lot else in a game. He can come in clutch, sporting over 50% on buzzer beaters, and he is expected to carry the team when it comes to scoring.

Small Forward: Soren Anderson (St. Riecarn Monks, 23)
Anderson is the best defender of the team, and it is typically fairly hard to get past him, but he lacks power on offensive plays. Aside from the occasional fast break, he isn’t going to score a lot.

Power Forward: Omha Black (Newport Tradesman, 28)
Black is the star of the team. He isn’t actually leading any statistics, but he gets a lot of rebounds, scores a lot of threes, makes a lot of dunks, scores from inside a lot, basically whatever you don’t expect him to do next. He is seemingly everywhere on the field at once, and he is very hard to defend, too. When he defends himself, he is typically able to almost take a player out of the game. His big downfall is his stamina, barely enough for the South Newlandian League, and he will be under even more pressure with 48 minute games.

Center: Joseph Bunn (Masmow Dragonfire, 23)
Bunn is the tallest player on the team, and he is also getting a lot of rebounds. He and Black are a dangerous combination together, and it is clear that this team will try to get as many rebounds, both on offense and defense, as possible. Bunn’s weakness is his speed, he isnt able to keep up with fast opponents on defense.

Bench:

Because the games take eight minutes longer than South Newlandians are used to, those five will also be used a lot in a game.

PG: Jose Mendes (St. Riecarn Monks, 21)
SG: Frank Jackson (Walstreim Lions, 28)
SF: Joe Doncic (Burgh Giants, 30)
PF: George Ingram (Ratzupalfu Rhinos, 20)
C: Steph McCollum (Elephant Valley Heat, 28)

Team Info: Basketball was not a very popular sport in Kohnhead until just recently when the domestic Basketball league was created with 8 teams who play a double round robin in one of the shortest schedules there is. The Gold Coast Basketball Tournament takes place after the regular season has ended and before the playoffs. The current roster is made up of players who performed well in the inaugural season but expectations are pretty low. While we realize this is nowhere near as large as the IBC, it will be our first tournament as a nation.

Lisander Basketball B team, The Nationals

Lisander Basketball Federation (FLB) is currently working on its new basketball tournament, the National Basketball League. Developed to be the first step for clubs and non-college players before reaching the SuperLiga, NBL will have 12 teams for the first season, but since NBL isn't a ring-fenced league as the SuperLiga, this number can be enlarged and isn't discarded having NBL2 and NBL 3 in the future. To celebrate the inaugural season of the NBL, a roster with one player from each NBL team was selected to represent Lisander in the Gold Coast Basketball Tournament. The team will be trained by the National Team Coach, Hélder Machado.

It was a nail-biting first match for basketball fans at the Gold Coast Basketball Tournament.

The West Phoenician Scorpions suffered their first loss against Inner AgianaUsordia with a 94-95 finish that had fans both at the stadium and back home on the edge of their seats.

The Scorpions have resurfaced after their international hibernation with an appearance at the Summer Olympic Games where they ended their run in the quarterfinals. Which was seen by the West Phoenician Basketball Federation as an amazing result.
The outpour of support from fans, allowed the Federation to seek other tournaments for their players, believing everyone deserves a second chance.

The Scorpions certainly gave it there all, for the first two quarters, the team edged out the competition, leading by 3 points, much to the remarkable ball-handling skills of shooting guard Li Chen Wu, who worked in an amazing steal to sink in a 3 pointer before the end of the second quarter.

However, Inner AgianaUsordia bounced back in the last two quarters, gaining the Upper hand through some amazing footwork of their players in keeping the ball away from the Scorpions and benefitting from a number of fourth-quarter personal fouls due to contact.

It was a disappointing moment to be trailing by four points towards the end. There was a small glimmer that it could be possible to get ahead, there was still just enough time on the clock.
Li Chen Wu managed a three-point towel bowl. With the ball rolling in, fans were almost out of their chairs eyeing the ball as it went round and round.
Cheerleaders seeing that all was not lost for the first match, took to their area to belt out a fight song to encourage the players, with a few backflips and cartwheels thrown in.
Unable to get possession of the ball again as their competition, kept the Scorpions away through passes and fake outs, to take the game by one point when the time ran down.

While it was a loss to basketball fans, WP Sports 1 hailed the first basketball match a success, with over 300,000 tuning in to watch the match.
WP Sport 1 was extremely pleased with the rating boost and hoped that basketball would continue to have citizens tuning it for the remainder of the tournament.

The Pilara Captains won the 2020 basketball championship in IAU, after advancing to the semifinals in ‘18 and ‘19. Coached by the former regional champion, Daniel Byeloslav, the Captains use their fairly large size and wide range of talent to its fullest extent. Jankovic, nicknamed ‘Losh’, is a young and lanky center known for his step-back precision and blocking ability. Svetmeri, although small, is very fast and boasts a very high 3-pt percentage. Oudemers is the media’s favorite rebel, defined by his short mohawk to make room for vivid and gory face tattoos. His defensive and rebounding abilities are nearly unparalleled in the League. Yannopolos, who goes by ‘Yan’, is a very experienced shooting guard that leads the team in points. His scoring, jumping, and dedication make him very difficult to stop. Al Rayya is the team’s everyman, who can block, score, rebound, and pass, albeit slower than the others. The bench players play very similar roles to the starters, with Atalayu being a runner-up in the best 6th man awards in 2018. The Captains’ sponsor is the Markešić Corporation, which has a stake in nearly every industrial sector in IAU. Their owner is Stefan Briand Woods, a tourism magnate from Bala-Natan, Aginan Balkania province.

Starting Lineup
PG #3 Ibezimako Akabueze. 6'1. 25 years old. Has played in two IBCs and the Olypmiad. Led University of Moravica to appearance in NSCAA 10 Championship Game. Known for quick transition plays. Plays for the Outreomt Étoiles in the Donnacona Basketball Association. First time as a starter.
SG #5 Saihou Uster. 6'4. 32 years old. Runs around like crazy, relentless motor. Team's best perimeter defender, team's best spot up shooter. Is a poor isolation player and struggles to create his own shot. Captain.
SF #14 Ezekiel Bullo. 6'7, 23 years old. Strong small forward capable of getting to the rim almost at will. He's a crazy good athlete, but he has to work on developing his jump shot. Strong perimeter defender.
PF #4 Labanzi Nabongo. 6'7. 30 years old. Has appeared in 3 IBCs and the Olympiad. Starred for the Manchester Tigers in the Donnaconna Basketball Association, finishing First-Team All-League, averaging a stunning 35 points per night. Can do it all offensively. Taking over as the team's primary scorer.
C #10 Sadio Bartaba. 6'11. 28 years old. Has appeared in 3 IBCs and the Olympiad. The team's best rebounder and most physical player- the emotional heart of this team.
Bench
C #13 Azmera Gulema. 7'1. 23 years old. Rookie in Banija's professional basketball league. Big rebounder, physical rim protector.
PG/SG #12 Janko Jawo. 6'5. 31 years old. Highly energetic, quality perimeter defender. An offensive liability.
PF/C #9 Antouman Ceesay. 6'11. 22 years old. Star player for Kizza I College in NSCAA 11.
SG #7 Ebrahima Faye. 6'5. 20 years old. Banija's highest rated basketball recruit coming out of high school. Star player for University of Moravica in NSCAA 11.
SF #23 Kizza Alonso. 6'8. 21 years old.
C #29. Oluwasegun Tionge. 7'4, 20 years old. Switched allegiances from Northwest Kalactin to Banija at IBC XXIX.

The Closeout lineup is the same as the starting lineup.

Notes:
- We almost always play a 1-3-1 zone defense. It works well with this team, which has lots of size, and is getting faster, especially at guard.
- This team is built very different from past teams. They space the floor much better, they have spread the floor with a lot of players who can hit jumpers, especially three pointers. They also like to play fast.
- This team will run at almost any chance they get. While rebounding, especially on defense, is the team's weakest link, when they do get a rebound, they are able to push the ball, and so quickly.
- For the group stages, this team's rotation runs 10-12 deep, as they will almost certainly shorten the rotation to 8 players come the knockout stages. But for now, he wants to get everybody playing time, and give the starters rest for the later stages of this tournament.

Recent History
The recent history of the national basketball team, or the Lions, has to start with Banija’s return to the international fray in the 24th IBCs- when they first made a name for themselves on the international stage. With Alonzo Busk hired as the head coach, and their play centered around their star front court players, the pair of 7’2 foot twin brothers, this was a team that won with a front court based game. The two were quality free throw shooters for their size, of course, and they stunned everyone in the IBCs by even getting out of their group, finishing with a 7-3 record in IBC 24 after starting 0-2.

They then made a deep run into the tournament, until they ran into the buzzsaw of St.Kanye- who beat them in the semifinals en route to their third IBC championship in a row. Running into one of the sport’s all-time great teams, things seemed to be looking up for the Lions. And then, came IBC 25- the first time they truly faced disappointment. On home soil, in a tournament co-hosted with Filindostan, they went 10-0 In the group stages, emerging as a favorite to cut down the nets in Filindostan. However, for them, they ran into Drawkland, who stunned Banijan fans by pasting the Lions by 20 on their home floor, en route to winning the tournament themselves.

After that, the team got their first major trophy- winning the Gold medal at the Commonwealth Games for the men. That gave them hope flying into IBC 26, and they did well in that tournament, winning their group for the second straight tournament, this time from Pot 2, and getting into the knockouts. They ran into the defending champs, Drawkland, in the quarterfinals, and that was the end of the run for the Lions.

Three IBCs, three knockout stage appearances, three knockout victories- not a bad run for Alonzo Busk. But it was all a disaster at the Olympics. They went 3-3 in the group stages at the Republica Olympiad, the Savaneh twins swan song with the Lions. And that was it for that iteration of the squad. The Savaneh twins retired, and Alonzo Busk, the head coach, resigned after the Olympiad, saying that it was time for a new era of Banijan basketball to commence.

And IBC 27 was the beginning of the new era. With a new head coach in Isaiah Lavaga, they run a different kind of offense entirely- the team running through a pair of quick, quality guards. They shoot a ton of 3s, and try to stretch the floor- almost the opposite of teams past. And with their #4 ranking in the IBC standings, the expectations for this team are extremely high- with even Lavaga himself saying that anything less than a quarterfinal appearance, with the talent on this team, would be ‘a failure’. This team, though almost getting eliminated in the Round of 16, won four in a row over Valanora and the Royal Kingdom of Quebec(respectively), to run into the Vannish buzzsaw in the semifinals.

The IBC 27 Semifinals, going into which Banija had so much hope, was humbling. Vangaziland is clearly a cut above the rest of the multiverse in terms of basketball skill, and they will be the measuring stick, as the Lions hope to do what the national soccer team did to Vilita- prevent them from winning a third consecutive championship. IBC 28 was another strong start for the Banijans in what was a surprisingly short tournament- just 3 group stage games. They won all their group stage games, and their Round of 16 game to boot, before being upset by the Free Republics in the Quarterfinals.

This most recent cycle was the most painful one yet. They finally broke through in the IBCs, finally winning a semifinal in their third try, against rivals Drawkland, only to fall in the final to the resurrected basketball powerhouse, Newmanistan. The pain was added onto the year after, at the XIV Summer Olympiad, taking place in Banija's largest city, Istria. This men's team navigated the group stages and had a strong showing all the way to the Gold medal game, where the sellout Banijan crowd witnessed another disappointment in the biggest moment for Banijan basketball, as they lost and walked away with an Olympic silver medal. They are looking for a strong showing in the Gold Coast as they yet to launch another effort to claim the mantle of best team in the world at IBC 30.

Kohnhead loses heartbreaking open match against Megistos

In the first game ever for the National Kohnheadian Basketball team we were set to take on Megistos as they are one of our adversaries in group 3. The game was very evenly matched and went back and forth the entire time but in the end Megistos would get the 92-91 win that went down to the wire.

First Quarter
The start of the game was very much in Megistos' favor as we struggled mightily turning the ball over 4 times in the first 5 minutes as the starters looked like they had never played with each other despite the practice that we had put in. Megistos quickly built up a 15-5 lead led by their deep shooting as they went 4-4 from behind the arc early. The zone that we had started in was getting picked apart and for all of Francis McCall's offensive skills she is a complete liability defensively and this showed early. Coach Munro called a timeout and in came Taylor Emerson for the first time.

Emerson would lead us on an 8-0 run scoring 6 of the points while also adding 1 steal and an assist on Patrick Ali's deep 2. While Emerson would only make 1 more basket the rest of the game her impact was hear early on and with this momentum we turned this first quarter around taking a 30-25 lead at the break having outscored Megistos 25-10 since the timeout. A big reason as to why we were up was because we were getting fouled, going to the line, and making our free throws at 8-8 on the day.

Second Quarter
Audrey Nicholls got into foul trouble picking up her third with 11:23 remaining in the second. She was subbed off forcing Grant Thomson into more playing time than we wanted and Megistos would go after him hard in the quarter. While the 17 year old McCall is coming off of an MVP win and a scoring title she failed to impress early on as by the end of the quarter she would have a measly 5 points in addition to getting roasted defensively. We struggled a lot in the second quarter turning the ball over 6 times and missing a lot of shots but Megistos could not get anything going either offensively and the quarter ended with us at 44 and Megistos at 46.

Third Quarter
We knew we had to get McCall going to jump start our offense but it just wasn't her day. The pick and roll offense which had worked so well for her on Swisston City was not working against a stingy defensive Megistos team. Instead Audrey Nicholls who had missed almost the entirety of the second quarter started to put the team on her shoulders. Nicholls would have 14 points and 6 boards in the quarter while the rest of the team would manage a collective 8 points and 8 boards. However late in the 3rd, Megistos started to pull away after making three straight from downtown really putting the pressure on us. The quarter ended with us losing to Megistos 74-66.

Fourth Quarter
The starting V were back out there completely at the start of the fourth and would all play a majority of the final stretch. We quickly went on a 12-4 run to start the final quarter tying the score at 78 before both sides would go cold offensively collecting going 1-9 from the lead with a lone layup from Sammy Winters. From there on we would trade blows with neither side taking a more than a 4 point lead until we were up 91-89 with 17 seconds left on the clock. McCall had just made a driving floater to give us the lead and to give her 10 points. Megistos called a timeout as they drew up a play while we took out McCall for Joseph King the better defender.

Megistos in bounded the ball and dribble it around for a little. before starting their play with around 10 seconds left. It was a iso call and Joseph King was beat as their point guard got a good look at a 3 which was drained with 4.2 seconds left on the clock a bit early so it would leave us with a little bit of time to win the game. Molina inbounded it to McCall who made a move around the defender stopped but hesitated and passed it out to Sammy Winters who was not expecting it. The ball went right through Winters hands and onto the floor of the arena right as the final whistle sounded, we had lost because McCall got nervous and refused to take the last shot.

Thomas Manningham said before the Gold Coast Basketball Tournament that his team was prepared for the rigours of a tournament that used something called "NBA rules," even though the upcoming International Basketball Championships uses international basketball rules.

"We just have to depend more on our depth in a tournament like this," he said. "We play a similar style in our league and we play 48-minute regulation matches, so it's something we're used to.

Manningham proved to be right. Guard Mike West logged a team-high 34 minutes and watched as reserve guard Jayne Cruz logged a career high 32 minutes and 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and Sarzonia otherwise relied upon a suffocating defence to knock off host nation Northwest Kalactin 89-84.

"Defence has been our identity since Coach Mann took over," West said. "Running our half court sets becomes especially important when you play a 48-minute match." West scored 14 points on 5-for-11 shooting, but was especially a force on the defensive end, garnering five steals and even two of the Stars' six blocked shots.

The hosts jumped out to an early 12-2 lead after centre Michael Hughes won the opening jump ball from Sarzonia's Terry Rutledge. Manningham called a quick 20-second timeout to calm his team down.

"I wanted to slow down their momentum," he said. Their crowd was getting into it." The Stars (1-0) answered with an 8-2 run of their own but the Kalactanians had the edge at the end of the first quarter, 21-17. The second quarter was Sarzonia's turn to start out fast and the Stars took off with a 12-0 run that forced the Kalactanian coach to call timeout. The teams battled back and forth, and it was the hosts who took a 49-44 lead into the dressing room at the half.

The third quarter was dead even with Northwest Kalactin leading 66-61 by the end of the stanza. However, West saved his most aggressive play for the fourth quarter, getting three of his steals and both blocked shots in the frame as Sarzonia pulled away in dramatic fashion. They outscored the Kalactanians 28-18 in the quarter to earn the win.

"We knew it was going to be a hostile environment for us," Cruz said. "They were marking everybody else tight and it opened up some opportunities for me tonight."

It seems as though it only took one match for Sarzonia to get into high gear. After a close result over hosts Northwest Kalactin, the Sarzonian national basketball team routed Inner AgianaUsordia in a match the Stars never trailed, rolling to a 124-83 victory that clinches the Group 1 title for Sarzonia.

With the first tiebreaker being head-to-head results and Sarzonia having victories over both Northwest Kalactin, which defeated West Phoenicia 125-81 and Inner AgianaUsordia, which knocked off West Phoenicia the night before, the Stars only have a match against the only team still winless in Group 1. That gives coach Thomas Manningham flexibility if he chooses to utilise his depth players. Manningham said he fully intends to do so.

"We've got another match to play in the group stages and we don't need this one to qualify for the quarterfinals," he said. "We want to make sure our starters play long enough to remain sharp, and make sure we develop our depth rotation in the likely event we're going to need it in the knockout rounds."

Guard Mike West notched a game-high 30 points before sitting out the fourth quarter, adding nine assists and five rebounds. He also notched six steals, but said he didn't care about missing out on the opportunity for a double-double.

"I don't care much about statistics," he said. "I just want us to win basketball games."

That's something Sarzonia have done well so far in this Gold Coast Basketball Tournament. They are one of four teams currently sitting with an unblemished record, and only Group 2 leaders Banija have a greater point differential at plus-55 to Sarzonia's plus-46. As for Manningham, he laughed when he asked if his older brother Tyrone Manningham was giving him a hard time after the Sarzonian over-35 national team won the NS World Cup of Masters.

"He hasn't let me live that down!" Thomas Manningham said with a laugh. "We're really feeling the heat here in this tournament, even though this is supposed to be preparation for the International Basketball Championships."

"We gotta win this title at least so I can shut his ass up!"

Kohnhead crush HUElavia to get first win in team history

Taking on HUElavia who looked great offensively in their 20 point opening match win against Ethane in which they scored 129 points, we knew our offense wouldn't have trouble scoring the question was could the defense hold up? The answer to that was most definitely.

First Quarter
Unlike against Megistos we were the ones to get off to the hot start, momentum we would carry throughout the game as we took a 20-10 lead early on and never looked back. Francis McCall in particular played a lot better scoring 10 of our first 20 points on 4-4 shooting as the lanky Tomas Oluwole couldn't keep up with her. We did receive a bit of an injury scare as Sammy Winters who had played so well in our first game against Megistos went down with a groin injury. While he sat out the rest of this game he probably could have played in it but didn't because we were blowing them out. He will be ready for our match against Ethane. By the end of the quarter we were up 36-19 having dominated, and we wouldn't come close to relinquishing the lead for the rest of the game.

Second Quarter
HUElavia did come out of the first hot scoring the first 7 points to make it a 10 point game but that was as close as they would get because our offense re caught fire with McCall having the game of her life. Our best player in the quarter was Molina who got 10 points and 8 boards in the time frame just dominating the glass. By the time the second quarter ended we were up 66-45 and HUElavia looked defeated.

Third and Fourth Quarters
I grouped these two together because really they went the same way. We continued to prevent HUElavia from making a comeback as eventually our first team would go off for good with 3:42 left on the clock in the third up by 31. HUElavia also began to put more bench players in than normal and Javier Correa in particular gave our second team fits defensively putting up 15 points total. By the end of the third it was 101-61 in true blowout fashion. By the time the game ended it was a 124-80 win for us to put us in second of the group.

Group 3 Pld W L PF PA PD Pts
1 Megistos 2 2 0 186 163 +23 6
2 Kohnhead 2 1 1 215 172 +43 3
3 HUElavia 2 1 1 209 233 −24 3
4 Ethane 2 0 2 181 223 −42 0

Our next match against winless Ethane will determine if we advance or not.

When an international basketball team is used to playing 40-minute matches with 10-minute quarters, there's bound to be a lot more scoring.

Such was the case for the Sarzonian national basketball team as it rolled to another victory and officially wrapped up group play with a crushing 135-85 victory over West Phoenicia.

The Stars (3-0) remain one of two unbeaten sides in the Gold Coast Basketball Tournament with Group 2 winners Banija, and will face Group 2 runners up Hispania y Filipinas in the quarterfinals.

Offence has certainly been on point for Sarzonia in the past two matches as they have scored 124 and 135 points in their last two. The Stars earned a comeback victory over host nation Northwest Kalactin on Matchday 1 despite a team-low output of 89 points.

Coach Thomas Manningham said the team would use the extra day to rest up after three consecutive matches.

"We wanted to keep everyone sharp and I'd like to think we did a nice job of that."

Guard Mike West scored a game-high 39 points on 14-for-19 shooting from the floor, adding seven rebounds, 10 assists, five blocked shots and seven steals.

"It was nice for us to let the entire squad play significant minutes and keep us from overworking ourselves with the quarterfinals coming up."

Quarterfinals winners will also get a scheduled day off before the semifinals.
