Excerpts taken from the SBN broadcast of Squidroidia vs Woryand, IAC 10 Quarter-Final, live from Stade Olympique, Syracuse

...And when you're talking about these 2 teams, it really is an immovable object up against an unstoppable force.

Here's Shiko, Loz steals it from Shiko. Loz on the ball... Crosses over to Malyōr, it's Malyōr, pacing through the Squidroidian defense, one on one, Malyōr! Woryand take the lead in the 14th minute! Shambolic defending from the Inklings, it might be them who will go packing!

I mean just look at the space they gave Malyōr. Nobody was there to guard him, and he sprinted through that defense like he did against Indusse. If I were Mito I'd probably try to get an equalizer.

The game isn't over yet, Woryand can't park the bus now. Hideo gets the ball from the kickoff, 1-0 to Woryand.

...And it looks like a penalty! A penalty to Squidroidia! Nariaki brought down by Saul!

But here's the big problem. Grēnwā has been unstoppable throughout this tournament, no goals conceded, had that famous save against Kriegiersien off a penalty. He's probably going to save it again, watch.

Itoh Hoshi to step up. Ball on the spot, Grēnwā is trying to tempt him into messing up... AND IT'S IN! HE MIGHT BE HUMAN AFTER ALL! SQUIDROIDIA TIE IT UP IN THE 42ND!

This is what happens when you tempt fate and especially Itoh. He knew what happened during the Sylestone friendly so he didn't tempt the keeper at all. Grēnwā dives left, the ball goes right, all of a sudden it's a tie game.

...Halftime from Syracuse, Squidroidia and Woryand tied 1 all. Robbie, what are your thoughts about this first half?

Both defenses have been cracked for the most part. For Squidroidia it's about trying to force penalties, free kicks and corners against the strong defense Woryand has, and as for Woryand themselves, they have to make sure the Inklings don't tighten their defense. Malyōr's goal shows us how good he, and the rest of this team basically, can be.

...We are on the 62nd minute and we will have a substitute come on for Squidroidia. Meeuwessen is up, the Inkling girl gets onto the field and replaces Yoichi Shigeko.

They're doing it this early? I was expecting a 75th minute change, but no surprise. It's time for the Inkling to show what she's made of.

...Minute 73 of this game, scores still 1 apiece. Free kick for Squidroidia. The man on the ball... Jo Jun. Crowded area, looking for the head of RYU! SQUIDROIDIA ARE IN THE LEAD! I HAVE NEVER SEEN THE CROWD GO THIS WILD BEFORE, NOT SINCE POAFMERSIA!

What a free kick from Jun. Pinpoint ball, it looked like he was aiming it towards Hideo, but Ryu just steps up, jumps above the Woryand defense, and rockets it past Grēnwā. He officially now has more goals conceded than assists.

But still, 5 straight clean sheets in this tournament is worthy of a Golden Glove shoutout from the man. Woryand have to wake up now.

...Here's Arinori, now Shiko, crosses the ball, Hideo tries to get the ball, HE USES HIS HAND! THE REF ISN'T BLOWING HIS WHISTLE! HIDEO GETS IT TO HOSHI, GOOOOAL SQUIDROIDIA! THE WORYAND PLAYERS ARE ANGRY, THEY WANT VAR! THEY WANT VAR, THEY'RE SHOUTING AT THE REF FOR IT!

...Oh dear.

The referee does call for VAR in the 85th, he observes the footage... It doesn't seem like the ball doesn't touch the hand of Hideo! This might be divine intervention... AND THE GOAL STANDS! SQUIDROIDIA IS HAPPY, BUT WORYAND, THEY ARE PISSED BEYOND BELIEF! YELLOW CARDS ALL OVER THE PLACE FROM THE REFEREE, but what is Crōdaru doing? HE PUNCHES THE REF, AND HIS TOURNAMENT MIGHT BE OVER! RED CARD! WORYAND DOWN TO 10 MEN LATE!

This is probably the biggest controversy I have ever seen since I first watched this sport. The National Derby incidents are nothing compared to this. That was so razor thin that it could have honestly been a handball and I wouldn't have noticed.

...Full time from Syracuse, and I think nobody is going to be talking about this without the controversy that unfolded on the pitch late in this game of football. 3-1 for Squidroidia, but Woryand are still going to be bitter even during the Baptism of Fire.

I kinda feel bad for Woryand more than I love Squidroidia here. That incident was their death nail, and they had an incredible run just to get here. I wish all of the best for these players in the Baptism, and who knows, a rematch might be on the cards.

But now, the Semis are right there for the Inklings to take, and HUElavia will be their opponents, runners-up the previous edition, they beat the defending champions 3-2 in Brétolles.

Who would have thought we could have faced them? It shows how great Mito has been when managing this team for the competition. Handball incident aside, I think we are going home against a team like HUE. We don't have 3rd place, right?

3rd place still exists, Robbie.

...Oh. But hey, this has been an amazing run so far, and I can't wait for the next game against HUElavia.

Wednesday night on SBN 1, the Squidroidians will have a chance to make their first ever final as they take on Cristiano Aviero-Lima and HUElavia in Saint-Christophe. Kickoff is at 8:00 PM, pregame is at 7:30. You can catch the Inkling-language coverage on SBN Squid, and a no commentary telecast will be provided on SBN 2. If you're not into football, you can change the channel to SBN 3, as over there we will air reruns of the classic sitcom "That Squidroidian Show".

But for now this is Takanaki Osa signing off from Syracuse, the National Newswire will be live from Inkopolis in just a bit, have a good night.

...From Inkopolis, this is the National Newswire.

The Squidroidian national team has booked their place in the semi-finals of the Independent Associations Championship after a 3-1 win against Woryand, but all of that is overshadowed by what some are calling the incident of the tournament.

Inklingcraft, Squidroidia's premier automobile maker, is rumored to build a new factory in Spartansburg, ruling out Factoria for the time being as rumors are circulating regarding a team in NSSCRA.

And unpaved roads in Squidroidia? It's much more common than you think.

Today is the 22nd of August, and this is the National Newswire.

Semi-Finals Cold Intro

The other day, we had an old rivalry renewed... "HUElavia and New Lusitania, the #2 and #1 respectively go head-to-head..."

We had to suffer... "Silveira heads over the defense... GGGGOOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!! He's got his second!!!"

But we found a way to redeem ourselves... "Rossi with the run... GGGOOOOOAAAALLLL!!! What a spectacular effort from Rossi!!!" "Conti with the corner... Navarro with the header!!! GGGGGOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLL!!!"

"It's Over! HUElavia qualify to the Semi-Finals for the 3rd consecutive time!"

At this point, there is no "Easy Team" left in the competition. Each of the four Semi-Finalists have their own narratives and merits to be among the "Final Four" of the Independent Associations Championship, to be the very best among all of the non-sporting regions.

Now, we take on one of the surprise packages of the tournament: Squidroidia. A nation with a diverse population of Yamoto and Inklings that make up the country and the team alike. They look to make a big name for themselves on the sporting stage.

Tonight, two narratives will converge where two tickets will be handed to them. One will get a ticket straight to Port-des-Saints. The other will get a ticket straight to Romainbourg.

Tonight, we play for another appearance to the Final. So once again, pray to your Deity, have faith and hope for the team. Tonight, they play to bring HUElavia into the Final. Once again, with them on the pitch, and us in the stands, in the country and around the multiverse, nothing is impossible.

C'est l'heure de la gloire. C'est l'heure de gagner.

Poafmer Times

Semifinals for Poafmersia in IAC
Report by Donkash Yarso
Londonderry, Omerica - The Red Panjias managed to get hold of another close win against Squornshelan Remnant States to set up a semifinal matchup against Tequilo, where Poafmersia aims to win and be in the finals against HUElavia or Squidroidia.
The match was a pretty standard match, with the front 3 getting a goal each, with Daas Taisg and Gisiik Moonar providing the assists for all 3 goals. Given that the opponents are also really strong, the goal opportunities was rather limited, and it was the players' finishing that saved the day as Poafmersia managed 7 shots on target, to the Confederacy's 4. It was a back and forth match up till the point where Hansel Tang scored the winner in the 77th match, and then Poafmersia held on till the final whistle blew.
The attention of the team turned towards Tequilo, a side that dispatched Drawkland 2-1 in the quarters. They came through the last Baptism of Fire, putting forth a strong performance in that tournament which makes their win over Drawkland less of a surprise. According to Adnan Suliaha, he has indicated that a "different playbook" might be in play for this tournament, suggesting that he may be trying out new tactics and strategies in order to prepare for the next World Cup qualifiers. As reported yesterday, it was announced by the hosts that 18 groups would be in play, which means Poafmersia would likely be in the 3rd pot for the draw, aiming to become top 2 in the groups which may consist of 10-11 teams based on current trends.
Poafmersia would likely field the same lineup against the Tequilo, with 2 changes - Denise Pickford and Alex Hoboson returning to the lineup ahead of Nasri Sanchez and Natalia Abbott in the defence. Joel Haodao is likely not to come back from the bench against Tequilo, as it was confirmed that his suffered an ankle sprain against Squidroidia in the Group Stage that would likely mean that he would miss the remaining 2 matches in the IAC.
Starting 11 against Tequilo: Sandi Jaliaha; Alex Pickford, Danzik Hoboson (c), Nasri Sanchez, Natalia Abbott; Gisiik Moonar, Ftiks Wariq, Daas Taisg; Hansel Tang, Shakira Handris, Pete Carisa

Excerpt taken from the SBN broadcast of the IAC X semi-final, HUElavia vs Squidroidia, live from Stade de l’Indépendance, Saint-Christophe

...The whistle has been blown in this encounter between David and Goliath, and HUElavia are going back to the Grand Final. 1-0 it falls, and the Inklings will settle for the 3rd place game. Robbie, what are your takeaways from Squidroidia's performance, not just against HUElavia but throughout this tournament?

What an impressive run this team has had. Being in the semis is nothing to scoff at, Mito has turned this team from struggling against the likes of Megistos to Independents Cup semi-finalists in the blink of an eye, and I'd say that was a great turnaround for Squidroidia. They have a lot of promise heading into the Baptism of Fire.

This is the first time that the Inklings haven't scored a goal in a football match as well, how do you think that has happened?

I think it has to be that HUElavian defense that we saw today. They looked on point, easily looking like they are defending in a World Cup finals. Fernandez and Smirnov, they always caught Hoshi off guard and didn't allow this Squidroidian team to enter the box apart from some short chances early in the game.

And what did you think about Hamada's goal in the 63rd?

Well she is a quality striker for this HUElavian national team, even at 21. I think she has the chance to take over from Cristiano once he hangs up the boots as the team captain and main goalscorer. Looking back at the goal, you see her in the yellow shirt near the box, she gets the ball from Rossi, manages to go past Arinori heading into the box, tests the keeper, and BANG. Ticket punched to the final, the HUElavian fans go nuts, they've beaten New Lusitania, they've just beat Squidroidia, now it's coming down to their 3rd straight final as they try to get that trophy.

And there you see it, Squidroidia's manager, Ryūzaki Mito, shaking hands with the HUElavian coach Ivan Mendieta-Martinez, Mito congratulating him on reaching HUElavia's 3rdd ever Independents Cup final. Mito knows he has lost for the first time since stepping into Omerica, but the FA must be happy about him reaching the semis.

Of course they're happy, if anything this could seal his job for not only the Baptism of Fire but the World Cup qualifiers as well. Of course Squidroidia aren't favorites to qualify, but if they perform well they could easily get a Cup of Harmony invite. It's safe to say nobody is taking his seat for the time being.

Well, that was quite a fine run from the Inklings. They might not be fighting for the chance to lift the trophy, but they will have a chance to try and snatch 3rd place from an historic run, as they take on whoever loses the Poafmersia and Tequilo semi-final in the 3rd place playoff match, LIVE from Port-des-Saints starting with the pregame show at 2:30 PM on SBN 2. SBN Squid will once again have the Inkling language coverage, and SBN Sport will have a no commentary broadcast. SBN 1 will air the Final from Romainbourg a day later.

Well that will do it for today's broadcast, next up we have the National Newswire on SBN 1, SBN 2 is in the middle of broadcasting the nature documentary "Nation of Squidroidia", and over on SBN Sport you will be treated to highlights from the wide world of sport, including a preview for the Liga Super ST Championships. But for now, this is Takanaki Osa, we'll see you in Port-des-Saints for Squidroidia's 3rd place showdown.

HAMADA HEAVES HUELAVIA INTO 3RD STRAIGHT FINAL!

HUElavia 1-0 Squidroidia
(Hamada 63')
Stade de l’Indépendance, Saint-Christophe, East Calaverde

Coming into the Semi-Finals, HUElavia was coming off an important and historic victory over New Lusitania. The team was coming off their 3rd straight win in the tournament, and were now eyeing their match against Squidroidia. The Inklings were one of the surprise packages of the tournament, Winning Group E with 10 Points (3-1-0 record), defeated IAC 9 Bronze Medalists Port Ember 4-1 in the Round-of-16, and defeated fellow newcomer Woryand 3-1. Now, both teams were in the Semi-Finals, a match touted as a "Goliath vs David" match, with Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos being seen as the favorites for the match. The match was played at Stade de l’Indépendance (51,000), in Saint-Christophe, East Calaverde. The stadium was sold out as fans of both teams flocked to the stadium to watch the match. It was just about 50-50 in fan support (with some neutrals) with the fans of HUElavia taking up one end zone and fans of Squidroidia taking up the other. Both teams fielded their best players and the players came out to the pitch to a massive cheer from the crowd, the anthems played, the coin toss was decided and the ball rolled to kick off the Semi-Finals.

The match was played with a lot of tactical plays, as both teams wanted to play carefully but with enough attack to give a difficult time to the defense. In the 1st half, Smirnov and Fernandez-Roux had a stellar performance in defense, giving strong but legal tackles to stop attacks from the Inklings. Lobato was also making saves left and right, not allowing goals to go in. Despite this, HUElavia's Front 3 would get stopped by Moronobu and Arinori, as well as Kyushichi making saves as well. Despite this, the first half ended 0-0. The 2nd half, HUElavia would begin to attack more, looking to advance into the Squidroidian defense. This eventually paid off, as in the 63rd minute, Rossi would pass the ball to Hamada, who would run past Arinori, test Kyushichi and blast the ball into the goal to make it 1-0. The crowd erupted, jumping with joy and passion to make the stadium rumble, while Hamada was mobbed by her teammates, getting hugs and congratulations, ending with her boyfirend Navarro hugging and kissing her for the goal. Squidroidia would try to attack and get a goal with Jun, Hoshi, and Nariaki, but the defense came in perfect, and prevented shots from being made. Ultimately, after 3 minutes of additional time, Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos held out and the referee blew her whistle to end the match at 1-0. The crowd roared while the HUElavian players went onto the pitch to congratulate one another and give condolences to the Inklings for their grand run.

With the victory, HUElavia will play their 3rd consecutive Final in the Independent Associations Championship. The team will meet Poafmersia, who finished 2nd Place in Group E, where they defeated Tequillo 0-2 at Arena la Rouge, in Port Alexandre, Mespalia. The Final will be played at Stade de la République (73,000), in Republic of the City of Romainbourg. Fans will be flocking to the arena to support the team once again, while fans back home await with anticipation. There is a rumor running around that a special tifo will be unveiled in the Final giving support to the team when they come out onto the pitch. The team hopes to learn from their mistakes, practice very well, and win the Final. Fans will be praying and hoping that the team will finally overcome their two consecutive losses and win in the Final. Regardless, the fans in Omerica, in HUElavia and all around the multiverse is proud of the team for making a deep run once again.

FORCA HUELAVIA! VAMOS HUELAVIA! GO HUELAVIA!

The Final Intro

Omerica, a nation in the Social Liberal Union, filled with a great blend of Gallic and Anglian culture. A nation with a beautiful environment and great supporters have done an excellent job hosting the tournament, and now after 95 matches, there is one last match Omerica hosts: The Final.

So, here we are once again. HUElavia appears in another Final, for the 3rd consecutive time. We may have not taken the route we expected to take, but we made it to where we wanted to achieve to. We've suffered a lot in this competition, having to rely on others to advance, having narrow victories, but we made it. We fought for and earned our place in the Final.

On the other side of the pitch, stands Poafmersia, another Top Seeded team that had a route they did not expect to have. But they too have fought for and earned their place in the Final.

One team looks to overcome consecutive losses in the IAC Final. The other team looks to establish themselves as a powerhouse in the IAC. For both, it is their opportunity to win their 1st-ever title in the IAC.

Tonight, 40 years worth of football, joy, and glory will culminate in a spectacular Final. Romainbourg will host the 10th Final of the IAC, one that both HUElavians and Elites will seek to call the city where they won their 1st Title.

Tonight, pray to whichever Deity you may worship, have faith in your team and support them throughout these next 90 minutes, or even more.

It's time to crown a new Champion of the Independent Associations Championship.

C'est l'heure d'or.

Reporter: Congratulations on getting into the finals of the IAC!
Adnan: Thank you!
Reporter: Could the both of you discuss about he progress of your team thus far?
Katiri: I think that our team has gone through lots of ups and downs, and the win honestly has been a boost for team morale. Our performance has never been perfect, but the players have done really well and the semifinal performance showed it.
Reporter: Going forward, HUElavia stands in the way of the title. How is the team preparing for that match?
Adnan: Same starting lineup, same strategy. Nothing special will be employed, since we are treating this like a warm-up for the qualifiers at the end of the year.

Félicitations à notre champion and commiserations to those who didn’t quite make it. There was very little to separate our Grand Finalists, not to mention the giants who fell along the way! We had many deserving champions this time around and it is a shame we could only crown one.

Thank you to everyone for the opportunity to host this special Xth edition of the Independent Associations Championship! It was a blast and I wouldn’t be surprised if I never did this again! Until next time, good night…

Poafmersia 3
Shakira Handris 81'
Pete Carisa 89'
Hansel Tang 104'

HUElavia 2
Cristiano Averio-Lima 28', 67'

Starting 11: Sandi Jaliaha; Alex Pickford, Danzik Hoboson (c), Nasri Sanchez, Denise Pickford; Gisiik Moonar, Ftiks Wariq, Daas Taisg; Hansel Tang, Shakira Handris, Pete Carisa
Substitutes: Emma Conner (A. Pickford 66'); Konile Trasa (Wariq 73'); Aubrey Mayer (D. Pickford 97'); Donk Mason (Moonar 104')

When the final whistle blew, the Poafmersian bench all stood up and ran onto the field. The fans cheered and shouted loudly, while the players were gathering together and celebrating. Something tells Poafmersia that they definitely weren't favourites to hand HUElavia their 3rd consecutive loss in the finals of the Independents Associations Cup, but the players went through thick and thin to do just it.
Coming into the game, Poafmersia had no head-to-head advantage. Both teams had played each other twice before this meeting, with the most recent friendly being one held before the Independent Associations Cup, where Poafmersia lost. The record for our Red Panjias was 1 draw and 1 loss, which is nothing. HUElavia was certainly favourites to win the title, and they came in showing just that. In the 28th minute, it was striker Cristiano Averio-Lima who scored a goal for HUElavia, finding a defensive error by Alex Pickford, then running with the ball solo till the goal, and then tapped it into the net. In the second half, it was Cristiano who found another nice goal in the 67th minute to put Poafmersia 2-0 down. With nothing to lose, Adnan threw in another midfielder to switch to a 3-4-3 formation, and was rewarded in the 81st minute when Shakira got one back after recieving a nice corner delivery from Emma Conner and then 8 minutes later, Hansel Tang did a nice 1-2 with Pete Carisa, to allow Pete Carisa to score the equaliser. In extra time, Hansel Tang tapped in another solo goal to allow Poafmersia to win the title 3-2.
Katiri Hedge was very proud of his charges after the game. "Honestly, it was a miracle. With so little time after HUElavia scored the 2nd goal, the players played with such gusto and managed to get 2 in in the last 10 minutes. I am really proud of them - they deserve the trophy. Having won our first international trophy, Poafmersia will push forward in the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers at the end of the year, aiming to get hold of at least a playoff spot."
