The Error 458-No Nation Found team was taking a flight to Baker Park for the Sporting World Cup, but as there were no direct flights and the team could not afford a charter, it had to fly through South Covello. This required going through customs and immigration in South Covello before they could proceed to their flight to Baker Park, as Error 458-No Nation Found was on the list of unapproved nations for a transit visa through South Covello due to repeated incidents. However, the team would undergo another such incident as they proceeded through customs.

SWC 18: A Look at Chromatik U-18 Football

It's been a rough cycle for Chromatika internationally; however, brighter pastures await - and so we turn to the U-18s, where Chromatika's hopes lie.

Of the twenty-two players on the roster, fourteen of them are in a U-18 club of one of the Red League squads. Eight others played for one of the High Schools.

We will be looking at those leagues that they've been playing in, and tell the stories of how U-18 competition have been going.

Meanwhile, these players will be in Group B with Jeckland, Jovannic, San Jose Guayabal, Sarzonia, Vdara, and Terre Septentrionale. Ironically, Jovannic and Terre Septentrionale were in Chromatika's Qualifiers group. They will be opportunities to settle the score.

Matchday 1: BYE
Matchday 2: vs. Jeckland
Matchday 3: vs. Jovannic
Matchday 4: vs. San Jose Guayabal
Matchday 5: vs. Sarzonia
Matchday 6: vs. Vdara
Matchday 7: vs. Terre Septentrionale

The top four finishers move on to knockout rounds.

For a country longing for new hope, will this tournament be that new life?

The Observation Car

For the past hundred years, the gothic facade of Montreal’s Saint-Pancras Station has greeted millions of passengers who came to the Imperial Chimney. Whenever I would wake up at five in the morning and head to the station to catch an early train, the sandstone structure’s window and the clock tower would stand well over me. Unfortunately it was remembered by most for usually the most heartbreaking reasons. One could make out the renowned hotel of its frontispiece, the occasional confetti in the air you would see and smell from a wedding parade, and not to mention the smell of heartbreaks brewed from the place. The orderliness of the windows, alternating with thousands of tales about the stories of farewells, greetings and of course the wanderings, reflected perfectly into myself then and now, as I find myself transported thereafter to the train set.

The legendary Calanian Mountaineer train, consisting of international trains that has been running six days a week for half a century, has been uninterruptedly linking Montreal Saint-Pancras, Emberton Great Northern, and Belle Haven Union stations. Of course, even before that, the railways connected the northwestern tip of Calania with the southwestern tip, but the connection wasn’t direct. So whenever people tell me uninterruptedly so for a solid century and half, I would come back at them and say: directly with Belle Haven, had passengers not been obliged to change at Emberton Great Northern station, where few carriages changed here and there due to traffic-related reasons. Those were the days when the passenger and freight demand between Quebec and Baker Park, Quebec and Krytenia and Krytenia and Baker Park all used to be lot more volatile to changes and of course outdated security infrastructures (mostly on Quebecois front due to limited investment ‘til the 1980s), so such stops were necessary. Of course unfortunate, but necessary enough.

From what I recall correctly, I have taken part in, I think, six such journeys to Baker Park, with the eventual destination always being the Red Deer Lake. Among those summer trips, I particularly singled out year 2033, as I recall the memories from that summer the best. In that year, our travelling party was a fairly small one, with about twelve members in four compartments.

The four compartments, all located on the 2nd car of the 14-car set, went as following: my mother sat reading one of several works written by her friend (whom a decade later, the late His Majesty were to appoint as the Official Court Historian that provided him privileged access to Royal Archives) on the No. 5 compartment he shared with the aforementioned University of Kingston professor and his late wife Maureen (bless her soul), a choreographer who owned a dance studio five minutes walk from my old high school. On the No. 6 compartment (a triple) right behind them, their son Myeong-Shin, an idol of mine growing up, as well as my cousins, Alexis and Byron Lundrigan, occupied the space as the one for the fourteen year olds. Behind that, on compartments No. 7 and 8, came me, my younger brother and Myeong-Yoon Heo, an eventual friend of mine, on former, as well as uncle Brock and aunt Brianne on board.

The year 2033 was quite an eventful year, for all that I remembered: Banijans were getting humiliated on the international stage, that was also filled with droughts and insurgencies. The Quebecois newspapers were filled with millions of question marks and of course, mockery, of the stubborn friends of southwestern Atlantian Oceania who made little sense when asked of their intentions at the Quebecois Commonwealth Assembly. Aside from that, there were quite a few things to note- in May, St. John’s Arsenal had won their last of 14 Q-League titles to this day. In July, the hundredth anniversary of the QBC Promenades was celebrated in Quebec City. It was mid August now. With the resumption of Bakerian schools and universities, this had meant that the train would be filled with Quebecois families heading first to Belle Haven, and continuing onto Red Deer Lake. The northern woods of Quebec, Semarland and eventually the unincorporated Mertagne moved along, as the following day saw the arrival of temperate woods in Krytenia.

On the observation car, as we watched the Mertagnian villages turn into Krytenian towns and cities that looked a lot more vibrant and temperate, me and my friend Myeong-Yoon played cards while the older kids of the No. 6 let us do our own thing. Through the sunrise and sunset, we would watch the tourists come and go, while the Krytenian locals, who had long known of the overnight high speed train’s usefulness, frequented their opportunity to use the observation car. It was heckuva sight: even as I tell you this story, on the other side of the Multiverse over a chat of two journalists in Landslide Global, I see the very same image of how beautiful and bustling a train ride can both be. In some ways, I am reminded of the orange-brown locks of Myeong-Yoon, who always looked more like her mother Maureen, a woman of renowned beauty that captured many back in the day.

The famed words were that in year 2012, her beauty had managed to capture the eyes of a young sabreur under Lundrigan and McCarthy’s tutilage, who nearly committed suicide over the unrealised feelings. Around 2014, it was the very presence of her that brought him back from a car crash that ended his fencing career three months before the Quebecois Commonwealth Games in Levis, Capitale-Nationale; causing him to fight for a cause just as all had seemed a loss. There were many allusions made by people as to how the redheaded woman, whom the sabreur’s friends had all opposed to the possibility of their relationship the second time in 2014, was a dangerous creature, a Medea or Circe. But the suspicious has been amply recovered during the three decades they would spend together thereafter- from the gently-lit cities of Quebec City to their alma mater and Novopetrogradian research trips, as well as the lecture halls of University of Kingston and dance salles. Not to mention in two athletically-gifted children of theirs. The fact that sometimes, the unexpected of the unexpected happens with what appears to be a magical power of love, of course is something that we should think a bit more about in this day and age.

‘Have you ever been in love, and do you believe in the chances?’ Myeong-Yoon would ask, trying to catch me awake, as she slowly shuffled the cards. The observation car, by this point, is long dark and somewhat empty, with few elderly couples and a couple of other children present for whatever reason I could care less about. Given that it was night, it had made even more sense to talk of those that we would feel slightly more uncomfortable in daylight. Of course her and I, always close but never really drawn to each other beyond amitié after all these years, came to ask ourselves the same question over and over again….It is something that us two, since then, have become familiar thinking about. Perhaps for best reasons, but other times in committing many youthful mistakes.

TAPALUPÉ, Tequilo - So much football, so little time… don’t worry, when you don’t have time for the big read (and we don’t have time for the big write) let the GOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL-a!!! Daily take the strain - all your favourite bits, in brief.

First order of the day, let’s fire up the Copametro and find out how Los Pitxileros Juniors did in the Under-18 World Cup, which apparently, is no longer the Sporting World Cup. Which should suit young hothead Martzel Zabalaemeldi just fine…

Image
JUNIORS STRIKE LUCKY IN NERVY START
TEQUILO 1-0 Cassadaigua HT: 0-0

Location: Ludlow Road Park, Endborough [Att: 6,422]
Date: Juiciodia, Siega-23.° SB-6201

SCORERS: Zabalaemeldi 90’

TEQ Player of the Match: Matias Caldas
Booked: Caldas, Sotolongo, Seco (TEQ)
Sent off: Jaïr Iscla (TEQ)

Future superstar (we think) Jaïr Iscla had an ignominious start to his international career, being sent off in the fourth minute of his under-18 debut and leaving his team-mates to face the might of Cassadaigua with ten boys for practically the whole match. It was backs to the wall for all but the last ninety seconds of it, with keeper Matias Caldas picking up the player of the match award for his sterling efforts. Daylight robbery occurred when Martzel Zabalaemeldi broke Casshearts with more or less the last kick of the game, streaking up field after a defensive corner, catching the Dagans off-guard as they themselves went for a more deserved victory, and struck home with surprising maturity to absolutely steal this win from under the long equine noses of The Fillies.

Player focus: Matias Caldas When the very first international selection took place for the Baptism of Fire two Teqyears ago, and the selectors signalled they would want to take a number of young talents to the tournament to prepare them for a big master plan to ‘win something sometime’, they were undecided about which of two young goalkeepers to take. In the end they plumped for Oscar Bienvenida, who soon got a call up when nominated #1 Ferran Teixidó got injured. Oscar was so impressive, he soon earned himself the first choice place against an underwhelming Teixido and the nightmarish showings of García de Corcoles. The other young keeper the selectors were thinking about when taking a chance on Oscar? Matias Caldas. The SC Raití keeper has seen his friendly rival streak ahead of him to the national first team, but after a whole season in goal for SC, culminating in a Copa Tequilo final appearance, Matias has finally got his chance to shine - albeit on a more modest stage. Could this be his chance to cement the #21 shirt (traditional reserve goalkeeper number on Tequiloan pitxi) for the national team, as back up to Oscar? Well, he could not have wished for a better start.

Starting Line-Up for TEQUILO vs. Mavinet:
4-1-3-2: Caldas | Bertendona, Sotolongo, Vigo, Seco (Capitan) | Toledo | Ssrtskauouoi, Çenturion, de Raya | Vale & Zabalaemeldi

VENUE: Bridewell, Endborough

GRANDPARENTS FOR GOALPOSTS
Our Nostalgia Column With Retired Footballer Haizinto

When I was young,
we didn’t have shinpads -
we used tabby cats
or cricket bats.2

What was it really like in the old days? Famous former journeyman pitxilero - that’s ‘footballer’ to you and me - Haizinto recalls his earliest memories of football, back in the alleyways of Santa Clares city…

I was only two or three when my father came back from the War of The Cacti [Are we sure about this - that was 200 years ago, and some? - Ed.] and we were an impoverished family. He’d been away for eight long years, and while he still held affections for for my elder siblings Tomau and Sekundino, whom he had known before the war, he returned a broken man and had no love of me or my younger sister Fondeletta, since we were conceived and birthed while he was fighting in the dunes. We were so afeared of his violent tendencies we spent all our time on the streets, playing pitxi with a shrunken capybara head that Tom & Dino had stolen from the local House of Shambles [A meeting hall of the cult of Confusiónism - Ed.]. It was so asymmetrical for a ball that the best of us became very skilled at close control by reading it’s unpredictable bounce. We called that head ’Señor Bola’ and it taught me a great deal about deft touches that would lead me into my later profession as a footballer - a common experience of many street kids who learned their trade in the ‘afueras’. We definitely didn’t have shinpads, as the poet says, but it’s ridiculous to think we could use tabby cats - the native small cat, the Tequiloan Ocelot, would never tolerate such abuse and ribbon your shins into raw spaghetti mince. We had to put up with the solid shrunken head bouncing off our shins - nowadays, some of those kids, old boys and girls now, walk like injured sloths; me, I’m made of stronger stuff. My shins are as hard as iron, and cratered like the moon. My wife makes me wear longstockings to bed so she doesn’t have to see them.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
The Issues That Are Really Grinding Your Gears Right Now

‘Orejas Grandes’ writes - It’s good to see the Letter To The Editor feature is back - I promptly got out my ink and paper to send a message. Of course I prefer to be a responder rather than an instigator, it’s much easier on the noggin, but there aren’t many issues raised so far and I don’t want to gravedig the whole ‘can we please have intervals between writing to the editor, I’m burning out’ theme, even though I’m sure we all have more to write on the matter of writing less. So, in the spirit of finding something else to write about, I thought I’d take issue with the number of Ls in GOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL-a!!! [Inca Q.P in yesterday’s letters - Ed.] - I see what you are trying to do here, I really do, but whether it’s 14, 15 or twentyanything, I feel you are stretching the written language too far for the sake of a brand pun. Others may disagree.

I’m sure they will, O.G. Meanwhile, Leticia Mas observes: It sounds to me from your postcard from Cassadaigua that menfolk are getting more civil liberties with every passing day. It’s a terrible shame. The country has gone to the dogs - next they’ll be after equal pay. Equal pay! My Dagan great aunt Cassettopaeia will be turning in her urn.

Finally, we may have news of missing footballer García de Corcoles! Señor A. Torque of Raití recalls: I’m sure I read in the International Domestic Soccer Newswire [A popular source of multiversal league results, club statistics and a lot of made up gossip - Ed.] that one Ged Cork was top scorer in the Sorthern Northland Gaelic Alliance Division 8. Is that a referential psuedonym - a clue? I think someone should at least check it out - I’ll go, if you can send me a plane ticket. Thanks in advance, Señor A. Torque de Raití.

Whoa, now hold on a minute Señor A. I think we’ll crowdsource some info on this first - if any of you good people out there want to write in, just address your emails to spambox@gola.teq3 - and we may even publish, providing it’s legible.

POSTCARDS FROM THE MULTIVERSE
Mavinet

We sent six random citizens out into the world to find out about some of the countries we’ve heard of but never visited before; we gave them airline tickets, a pen and some loose change, and asked them to send us a postcard. Here’s one that arrived today!

Baltasar de Aguirre writes from Đại Hòa, Mavinet: Dear Editor, please find this delightful postcard of the Baptism of Fire trophy, which presently resides here, since the nation is the current holder of the championship. As you can see, like the World Cup and the Cup of Harmony trophies, the BoF Trophy is made of an irreal metal, likely forged in Ariddia, and can’t be seen when you look directly at it with the naked eye. In real life, you can only see it by holding it in the periphery of your vision, where it does take on a blurry uncertain form. (Story goes that it has many dents, on account of various victorious captains dropping instead of lifting the trophy). This lenticular postcard does quite a good job of replicating the effect, I feel. Did you think it was a blank postcard?! Look again - tilt it a bit, hold it at arms length, move it almost out of sight… there! The Baptism of Fire Trophy! And can you see that I have managed to write on it, with my lenticular marker pen, “Lost Property: Please Return to Tequilo!” … on account, in my humble opinion, that we should have won the thing if it wasn’t for the blessed penalty shoot-out and Agustin de Leon’s ridiculous bungled panenka in the semi-final. Yours sincerely, B. De Aguirre.

NEXT TIME
What’s Up In The Next Issue of GOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL-a!!!

Coming soon - Los Pitxileros Juniors take on BoF-72 classmates and winners Mavinet in the first tie between the two teams [should have been in the final with them - Ed.] and we’ll be reporting on how that pans out; plus we have a postcard from Krytenia - of all places - and journeyman footballer Haizinto recalls his first ever pair of football boots.

2 SCHOCKING DEFEATS! SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE!

After suffering 2 heavy losses and scoring no goals, the Locharian football Federation started considering the dismissal of the coach of the national U-18 team. The Federation claims that those 2 losses were unacceptable and are now hoping for some changes in the national team. However, the coach seems to at times be fully incapable of controlling the youngsters on the pitch, as the defense is completely unorganized. Even the potentials don't seem to help in such situations.
If something has to be done, it has to be done! : says Jammi Korroger, the pundit of the daily football show.

Springmont's first U18 match, won but it did not satisfy their manager, Pablo von Listor. Ind Athletes from Quebec scored two goals, but fortunately they won with a late winning goal scored by Noah Crownfish in the 88th minute, a beautiful and accurate cross by Groen Langenhoven. Ind Athletes from Quebec previously opened the scoring account in the 15th minute. But the fragility of the defensive line, caused, the opponent scored the second goal 15 minutes later.

Ind Athletes from Quebec were then so disciplined on defense that Springmont failed to find a goal until the end of the half. The Springmont equalizer came in the 61st minute, when a pinpoint pass was made by Ravencloud Fjetland to the Crownfish and trapped the opposing defensive line, giving the 1v1 situation between the Crownfish and the goalkeeper, making it 2-2. When the match was seen to end with a draw, Groen Langenhoven managed to deceive the opponent's defense and bring the ball to the left side of the Ind Athletes from Quebec team before making an precision cross before being headed in by Crownfish for his goal, thus giving the Springmont U18 their first victory.

In an interview, U18 manager Pablo von Listor expressed his gratitude for the victory but said that there would be a change in defense as he was dissatisfied with the performance of the national defense line. They got bye in MD2.

A defensive-oriented team may not always be music to Poafmers, who are simply used to attacking football in the Premier League. Even Armed Forces FC, one of the most defensive teams in the PL, does not go to such extents in defence.
How serious is this team in defence? Quite ridiculous, that even Nelson Sanchez calls the performances "bus parking". Going out for a possession-based football where passing and counter-attacking is key has never been Poafmersia's strong suit, but yet they have executed it to varying levels. Against Trolleborg, which was another defence-oriented team, Poafmersia could not manage to get in the counter-attacks, and fell 0-1. However, against Quebec, the reverse occurred, since the opposition was more forward going and willing to attack.
Nelson Sanchez has said that this way of football is a relatively new area to him. "The pressing and passing has gone one extreme, so I do not really know how to deal with such football tactics. However, the players seem more comfortable to do the passing more behind instead of a high-pressing method, so they are more willing to focus on defence. Which may provide a good balance to our senior team, which has focused more on offense that defence has become a serious issue. Despite the shift towards, defence, our strikers are still doing their job quite well, though a lack of playing time together is a key concern. We attempted to arrange friendlies against fellow U18 teams, but demand is low and arrangement of such friendlies isn't easy. Hopefully, there would be more opportunities for younger players to come together and play more football."

Starting 11 against Springmont: Bianca Levine; Dhaval Contreras, Ali Berger, Morris Marsden, Zak Kaloyanov; Plamen Naoumov; Leonora Hall, Vasilis Villaverde; Jordan Huerta (c); Hassan Stevenson, Bridgett Elliott

U-18s start out SWC with win

Image

Is the youth program in Kohnhead any good? I mean the national team is made up of many youngsters so their must be something there. The U-18s traveled to Baker Park to play in the Sporting World Cup 11 for U-18s. We know the hosts Baker Park, for having beaten them in the Wonder Cup (Our football team's first every tournament). Now that victory against a team that was extremely good in Baker Park should be taken with a grain of salt due to them not playing their best players who would have probably beaten us.

Anyway, group A has had two matchdays but due to The Tiny Brains having a bye in the first one we played one game. That match came against Equestria at Hillsborough Stadium in Belle Haven in front of a crowd of 17,500. The roster fielded by our side is considerably younger than some rosters as Josiah Randall the 14 year old on New Ballow United is a starter. Randall will be moving over to Kohnhead City FC's academy next season, as he signs with them.

In the end we would defeat Equestria 2-1 in a pretty close match. Equestria was coming off of a 2-0 loss to Hopal in their first match of the tournament. As I explained earlier Kohnhead had a bye. The team is headlined by star Jordan Korkson (brother of Aaron Korkson), Rafa Santos, and Suzanna Barter. Korkson is coming off of a tie for the Golden Boot. And it was Korkson who would strike first as in the 27th minute as he received a pass from Santos at the top of the box. He fired a shot at the goal and it looked to be an easy save for the keeper but if deflected off of the back of an Equestrian defender and went into the goal for a 1-0 lead.

In the 32nd, Equestria would get their best chance of the first half but missed it just over the bar, and it had beaten 15 year old Carl Wells but they just couldn't convert. At halftime Coach Godwin would pull young Josiah Randall from the game as he had looked just a little out of his depth in the first half.

In the second half, Equestria would start getting more chances, but two saves from Wells kept them out of the back of the net until in the 59th minute they won a corner. Some miscommunication from Ruterford, Broadsie, and the rest of the defense left an unmarked man at the top of the box who calmly headed it into the net. Just like that the lead was gone, and all the momentum was on the side of Equestria.

Some say Kohnhead shouldn't have won the game, others say it was deserved. If they deserved it or not, it doesn't really matter. Equestria looked like the better team in the second half and were close to a second goal when they got a corner in the 79th. Wanting to play aggressive and to get their first win, they brought extra defenders in to the box. Unfortunately it didn't work for them, and The Tiny Brains had a chance for a counter attack.

The counter attack stretched the defense thin, and the speed of Randall Gilmore got the ball deep into Equestria territory with limited defense back. He passed it off to Rafa Santos who gave it up to Sharon Bullock who had come in for Randall. Bullock sent a shot that slotted into the bottom corner for the game winning goal.

Our next match will take place against last place and 0-2 Greater Vakolicci at The Riverside Stadium. It is a game, Kohnhead should be able to win especially if they hope to compete.

Here's the table, and what's interesting is the lack of ties in the first two gamedays.

Group A Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Baker Park 2 2 0 0 7 2 +5 6
2 Hopal 2 2 0 0 5 1 +4 6
3 Kohnhead 1 1 0 0 2 1 +1 3
4 Sylestone 2 1 0 1 4 6 −2 3
5 Libonesia 1 0 0 1 1 2 −1 0
6 Equestria 2 0 0 2 1 4 −3 0
7 Greater Vakolicci 2 0 0 2 1 5 −4 0

As for our lineup for the game, one change has been made. Randall is out, and instead Bullock will take his place. Coach Godwin made sure to emphasize the extremely young Randall will still get playing time.

Morale unravels otherwise solid Jovannic U18s

The Jovannic 2-3 Vdara

Well, Nagato Urimagi got a beautiful goal in the 32th minute....For a while the Vdaran attack seemed harmless as the defence used a central funneling technique to great extent, funneling them before muscling the ball with sheer numbers. This worked brilliantly but it took everlasting stamina which the defence did not have, so when a Vdaran attack slipped out of grasp, they easily put it past Seinat Fele. This seemed to break morale and Vdara scored two in quick succession past the distraught defence. Juyt Dersa brought one back in the 88th minute but The Jovannic really never got back into the game.

The Jovannic 0-3 Terre Septionale

No morale, no fighting edge, no stamina, yes trashing.

Wyverns Light The HUE
By Rami Niblick in Endborough, Baker Park

THE future is already dawning in Southern Calania, and it's sky blue and white. The Wyverns made it two wins from two in Endborough as they edged past a talented young HUElavia side by a single goal.

The likes of Ross Okano, Phillip Isievski, and Frankie Sassoon aren't household names yet, but they put in a defensive shift that would put the likes of Theo Eleftheriou and Elliot Schumann to shame, shackling Renato Rodrigues and holding back the HUElavian attacking midfielders. Isievski, especially, took to the fore, acting as a defensive vice-captain and making sure that his team-mates kept their shape. The seventeen year old has a youth contract with Beckton Supermarine; don't be surprised if he becomes a fixture at Orange Street next season.

The glory, though, goes to young Druidan striker Alun Belmwr. A fifteen year old from the backwoods outside New Cefn, who speaks better Welsh than English, showed that his first language is goals with a sublime twenty-yard howitzer that finished off a slick passing move.

The Wyverns, then, are on form and brimming with confidence; there may not be a better time for the teenagers to face their rivals from across the Beck. That being said, though, Ázëwyn Fëanáro is nothing if not fastidious and ambitious - she remembers the heydey of the Beck Derby, and won't be taking the match lightly. Time to light the purple touchpaper and stand well back. Onward!

SPORTS EDITION

ERAMAN U-18 WON COMFORTABLY

LINDENWOOD, BAKER PARK: Eraman U-18's drastic improvement in the second half allowed the squad to win comfortably over Lochario 3-0 at the Park Grove Stadium, Lindenwood.

The first 45 minutes ended goalless with Lochario looking more dangerous.

Lapse of concentration from Lochario's defense combined with some good attacking play by Eraman in the second half saw the team coached by Rifa Bakti winning the match comfortably.

However, it was Lochario who dominated the first half and create several goal chances but their attempt at scoring past Eraman was unsuccessful.

The match was more open early in the second half with both teams pushing men forward.

Eraman resurgence started in the 56th minute through a goal by Timur Beladau who headed in a cross from team captain, Andika Putra.

Lochario was punished again with Eraman's second goal through a finish from Helikopter Tompok three minutes later.

Faiz Johnson then gifted his team with the third goal in the 64th minute after heading in a cross from Dewa Budiman.

The results put Eraman top of Group F of the Under 18 World Championship which consists of Eraman, Lochario, Megistos, Xanneria, Nagore, Abanhfleft and Darmen.

The Football Fallacies
with Graham O'Doherty

AH S***, HERE WE GO AGAIN

Hello guys, and welcome back to another edition of The Football Fallacies with me, your gay Irishman Graham O'Doherty. Here we are at yet another edition of the Under-18 World Cup, and once again Abanhfleft has gone into this tournament with a brand-new team. Well, mostly. Yes, actually, for the first time in quite a few editions of the U18WC, some players who took part in the last Under-18s have managed to make it back into the squad for the eleventh edition here in Baker Park. Not just that, but we also managed to keep hold of our manager! Amazing scenes! You love to see it.

But in all seriousness, none of our starters this campaign have got much in the way of regular game time in the previous edition. Well, getting knocked out in the group stage will do that to your team. But Levi Baak must see something in this group of lads to consider them for this new team, surely? Enough to get them called up again. That reminds me, whatever the heck happened to all those lads and lasses that only appeared for one U18 cup for us? Am I even brave enough to want to actually find out? Maybe not, really. I can't be too sure.

But forget about all that now. The 11th Under-18 World Cup in Baker Park is our one and only focus now. And, by the looks of things, we're going to struggle throughout this whole thing. Nagore were really all over us throughout the game; they never really let us go. Just as we thought we finally had the advantage over them, they go ahead and say "sike!" Absolutely crazy, this game was. All goals back and forth with nary a break in between to let our poor lungs catch our breath. No kidding! These Nagoreans, or Nagoreskis, or Nagorepeople or whatever, have absolutely no chill at all. Those kids of theirs up front, Owensby and Robinson, they've got futures ahead of them. If they can manage to not get lost in the forest of all those talented young kids that never realized their potential. We all know what I'm talking about.

I guess it's a good thing that we got a bye day after the game against Nagore, because God knows our boys needed that break. It's a great opportunity for the lads to take a step back and learn about everything they did right and did wrong and not worry about having to do it all over again almost immediately. Hopefully the boys do learn though, and they didn't just spend their bye day lounging in the pool or drinking fresh juice or whatever. Please don't do that, guys. Please do learn from the mistakes of the previous game and apply those lessons learned to the next game. It'll be better for everyone's hearts and minds, I promise you all. XOXO from Graham....

The Hopal Herald Sports

Uma Frey, Hopal's Next Superstar?

14 year old Uma Frey had a big showing last night scoring 2 goals in the 3-1 win against Greater Vakolicci. Born in the small stopover town of Skifalit Uma was the fastest kid in town, and in fact the country coming first in the National Middle School track and field championships in the 100m and 200m races and second in the 400m and 800m all at the age of 12. But it was soccer that was his passion and he had a hard kick clocking in at 120kmh at the age of 13, easily being able to manuever around players his age and even a few years older. At this tournament right out of the gate he was amazing getting a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win against Equestria and being named Player of the Game and then scored 2 goals in a 3-1 win against Greater Vakolicci again being named Player of the Game.

Xanneria looked as if they had a decent squad, but their tactics would show a slight disadvantage, one which the starting LM and RM could take advantage of - MATCH DAILY

Tactics
Megistos
4-5-1, Wing Play, High Pressure, Attacking, Normal Tackling

Match Overview
1' The Game has started with Xanneria kicking off.
3' Megistos has gained control of the ball. They hoof it upfield, at Lukovic, but as he is only 5 foot 8 he misses the ball and Peter Burgess has cleared it away, but directly to Robertson. Robertson, who is dribbling and trying to keep the ball. He is now being triple-teamed, and he back-heels it to Callimolo, who apparently had gone up. He takes a touch and OH MY GODS THIS COULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST! Callimolo does a knuckleball which past Hawkes, but takes a touch on the crossbar which sends it flying at Brown, who clears the ball.
4' Hawkes has got the ball in his possession after a bad touch by Howard, he sends a chip to a wide open Los Santos, he megs Kellingrad and keeps on running, Callimolo runs in to block the cross Los Santos had sent, he blocked it, Los Santos goes for the driven ball but Callimolo catches him on the heels. Callimolo has commited a foul
5' Los Santos steps up to take the free kick, he chips the ball over Becks' head...
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! GOAAAAALAZO! Pike Henderson has dived in to reach the header, the ball hits off his head and it skips past Becks fingers, and into the back of the net it goes! Xanneria 1, Megistos 0!
7' Williams spots Lukovic open, he chips the ball toward him... excellent control. Meanwhile, Norris, who would be responsible for marking Robertson, would instead run over to Lukovic to attempt to steal the ball. Lukovic does a fancy 360 to dodge Norris, and finesses the ball around Hawkes, but it skimms the post and falls directly to Hawkes. Lukovic makes gestures of frustration.
9' The ball is intercepted by Cringan, he passes it to Robertson, who does the old One-two, Cringan shoots but Hawkes parries.
12' Sanchez is doing some very nice flair in the middle of the field, Howard tries to get the ball but instead slips on the grass and does a deadly slide-tackle on Sanchez. Howard is in the books with a yellow card
15' Los Santos attempts to make a low, driven pass, but it is flying in the air and hits Lukovic, possibly in the arm. Lo Santos complains and pushes down Lukovic, who falls down and hits the ground. Cringan shoves Los Santos, who manages to stay on his feet but is looking enraged at Cringan, and is about to hit him but the ref stops them. Los Santos and Cringan are in the book, with Los Santos having a warning about doing it again
19' Jorgenson is having trouble controlling the ball, and he kicks the ball over Sipenhall and runs down from the middle of the pitch. He spots Cringan with much space in front of him and through-balls it, and Cringan receives. He whips the ball in the box, sailing over Hawkes... but sailing over every Megistian player in the box.
22' Jorgenson dribbling toward the edge of the box, he is in the box, he cuts to dodge Browns tackle but Brown hits him in the knee and he goes down in the box. The ref points straight to the penalty spot, while calling it a foul, avoiding another card in just the first half.
23' Lukovic steps up to take the shot, and CONVERTS! GOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Lukovic shoots the ball at the left, putting it just above the ground, while Hawkes dives the other way! Megistos 1, Xanneria 1
27' Cringan is running up the left-flank, he spots Robertson, he passes to Robertson who is just outside the box, and he curls this one in... GOAL! It goes into the top right corner and no one, I say NO ONE, could stop that! Megistos 2, Xanneria 1!
38' Boring passing has gone by, with Megistos trying to waste the time to make it half-time. Williams passes to Jackson, but the ball is intercepted by Los Santos, who goes for the chip above Becks, but Williams is there to clear...
43' Brown is on the ground, holding his right leg. He says he is fine, but he is clearly not. The medics say he will have to be subbed, but he could play the next match with no risk. He is going off.
45' SUB: King on for Brown
45+2' HALF TIME

Half-Time Score:
Megistos 2-1 Xanneria

46' Half-Time is over, players are on the field
51' Megistos is on an attack, Williams is on the side, but he gets tackled legally. Los Santos is dribbling up, he curls the ball in for Barter Henderson, he volleys the ball, but the ball is over-hit and it goes into the stands.
56' Jackson is keeping the ball, looking for options, when Los Santos snaps him into real life by stealing the ball and shooting the ball, at a undefended part of the net... GOOOOAL! GREAT STEAL! AND A GREAT FINISH! Megistos 2, Xanneria 2!
57' SUB: Fri on for Jackson
63' The Megistian side is looking desperate. They have a freekick 21 yards from goal. Cringan shoots, And CONVERTS! AMAZING SHOT, AND THE MEGISTIANS ARE AHEAD! Megistos 3, Xanneria 2
72' King boots the ball up the field, to a open Los Santos (who has been working his butt out today) but Williams clears.
81' Dest Royen on for Cringan, Pulliso on for Robertson
85' Rush on for Los Santos, Barquin on for Norris
90+1' End of match. Megistos 3-2 Xanneria!

Yes, I know, Megistos has won, and is second in the group in matchday 1, but don't worry, The Styx Express will be on shortly to discuss the match!

ERAMAN U18 LOST NARROWLY TO XANNERIA U18

LINDENWOOD, BAKER PARK: Eraman U-18 national team was narrowly defeated 1-2 at the hands of Xanneria in the Under-18 World Championship at Park Grove Stadium, Lindenwood. Our young national team took the lead through Faiz Johnson's goal. However, Xanneria responded with goals from Barter Henderson and Pike Henderson.

The match was closely fought. Both teams tried to take the initiative to attack and immediately press the opponent's defence. The match, however, was marked by fouls. Xanneria player, Bobby Sipenhall even got a yellow card when the game has been running for only two minutes after fouling Timur Beladau.

Both teams play more carefully until the 20th minutes with most of the plays are concentrated in the middle of the pitch.

Our young national team was able to open the scoring in the 25th minute. Faiz Johnson managed to break Xanneria's goal after goalkeeper Martin Hawkes made a blunder.

One goal behind, Xanneria tried to put more pressure on Eraman's back four. However, our defenders who were led by Budi Andi and Purnama Sari was still able to dispel any Xanneria attacks.

Xanneria's best chance was found in the 36th minute. Domingo de Los Santos fired a thunderous shot from outside the penalty box, luckily the ball could still be pushed over the bar by Anara-born goalkeeper, Arjuna Kesuma.

Towards the end of the first half, Xanneria front line led by Barter Henderson, Domingo de Los Santos and Pike Henderson still kept our defence on their toes. But, they failed to find the equalizer until the referee blew the half-time whistle.

Both teams started the second half on a high tempo especially Xanneria who tried to find the equalizing goal.

Chance is obtained by Pike Henderson in the 52nd minute. Pike Henderson fired a shot after a panic situation in front of goal, luckily his shot can still be saved by our promising young goalkeeper who is the product of Anara's academy.

Xanneria did not give our players space to play our brand of football. Dewa Budiman can only occasionally counterattack.

Finally, Xanneria's hard efforts paid off in the 66th minute. Starting from a corner kick, the ball was headed by Barter Henderson without being able to be reached by Arjuna Kesuma.

Entering the 75th minute the game turned dirty. Nasty tackles started to fly in as both sides seem to lose their cool.

Entering the final minutes of the match, Xanneria still dominated the match. They continued to press our defence. Calamity comes inside the additional minutes. Pike Henderson's thunderous kick from outside the box went past Arjuna Kesuma and changed the score to 2-1.

Darmen 1–2 Megistos
Darmen had put up a good fight, unfortunately for them the Megistian U-18 over-powered them.

The match had started, and Megistos were taking control of the ball, passing it around, sometimes chipping the ball, but never using the chances. Suddenly, Fri had knocked the ball up the field in the 23th minute, and Jorgenson had received the ball, who had a choice: either pass to Lukovic or Robertson. He passed to Lukovic, who smartly went around the goalkeeper and chipped it over him, making a open goal for Jorgenson, who converted with ease. Darmen 0-1 Megistos

Halftime was arriving, with Darmen having a free-kick on the edge of the box. Mathers ran at the ball, the ball curled, and past Becks it went. Darmen 1-1 Megistos.

Halftime was by far gone, and it was the 88th minute. Earlier many shots has come through, but none of them hit the back of the net. Fri had received a yellow card in the 54th minute for doing a shove and elbow, and Darmen had none. Robertson had a penalty, with the red card of Jansen after trying to kick the ball in the air, but had hit Fri in the face in the box.

Robertson had stepped up to take the shot, and converted, with a low ball in the middle and the goalkeeper dives left.

Garrett should be fine after off day,
by Chelsea Dufresne, Concord Heights Times

In the fourth minute of the game against Tequilo, Jaïr Iscla was given a red card for his ridiculous tackle behind the back of forward Steffie Garrett, forcing the striker to fall backwards and have the back of her head strike the turf at Ludlow Road Park, when Steffie did not even have possession of the ball. Garrett laid on the pitch motionless for about ten seconds before she began to show that she as okay. Teammates quickly centered around her as Iscla had the nerve to question the card that was given to him, without showing any bit of remorse for the condition of Garrett. While Garrett’s knee was also hurt, the biggest issues was the concussion in which she sustained, something that was confirmed by the medical staff after she had to be helped off the pitch and carried to the locker room by two members of the training staff. Head coach Hannah Shanley said what struck her the most was the lack of remorse or empathy from anyone on the Tequilo sideline, “First of all, Juan Manuel Botín, get some (censored) control over your (censored) team. How does that even happen four minutes into a match? It happens when you have no control of your team, you don’t hit a player from behind in the back of their legs like that. I cannot even comprehend what would drive a player to undertake such an act. Then, not one of your players even makes an effort to check on her. And after the game, I didn’t hear anyone showing an interest, either.”

Steffie Garrett had a great start to the Sporting World Cup, scoring goals in the 25th and 79th minute in the opener against Starblaydia, leading the Fillies to the 3-2 win over the storied five-time senior World Cup champions. She would have seemed to have been the go-to player for the Tequilo match as well, but was never able to have the opportunity. The team was out of sync, the young girls thinking about their friend and teammate far more then the game itself. Sure, with the player advantage, they were able to get some chances, but understandably, their minds were never on soccer after this point. Garrett is recovering from post-concussion syndrome with the team in Endborough. With a bye day and then their next game also in this city, it will be easy for her to get some time to relax. Shanley is hopeful that Steffie will be able to play against Mavinet, but has listed her status as questionable at this time.

Iscla’s inexplicable actions were also noticed by members of the senior team, with Lupe Enriquez posting on Spacebook that, “If that punk ever comes anywhere near me I will make sure that he is the next one with a concussion.” It is unlikely that the 34-year old extremely physical defender will ever get a chance to play the teenager, but she still had to say it. Rachel Schanke also posted that, “I hope Steffie is okay. How terrible it is for that to happen.” Senior team manager Stephanie Sweeney suggested that organizers and all referees pay extra close attention to Iscla in future matches, “If he does that four minutes into his first game, then it tells you where his mindset is. That is about as blatant as it can be, and not one of those players I am told even seemed to care.”

The Future Better Not Be Mauve
By Rami Niblick in New Richmond, Baker Park

YOUTH-LEVEL football it may be; tell that, though, to the thousands of fans who have inundated New Richmond on the eve of Krytenia's MAtchday Three fixture against Starblaydia. The atmosphere in the pubs and cafés around the city has been tense, with fans bedecked in either sky blue and white, or white and purple, chanting insults each other, and local law enforcemnt hoping and praying nobody oversteps the line.

To be honest, though, they shouldn't worry too much. Though it's true the fans of the two sides engage in what I believe the youth call "top bantz", there's very rarely any more than that. True, both embassies got torched after the infamous World Cup XXIX quarter-final, but that had more to do with the political situation than anything else. The same, of course, cannot be said for the action on the pitch. From Tejai's offiside goal, to Jack Stafador's celebration - and, from the same game, David Wolverton's GBH tackle on Fenny Bentley - flashpoints and controversy are never far away.

Truth be told, neither side would have it any other way. Though it's true that Krytenia have issues with Sarzonia when it comes to football, Starblaydia consider Legalese as "the province that got away", and neither side has much love for Audioslavia or Valanora, this is the match that generates that bit more wattage of electricity. It may not be the seniors taking to the field, but for both sides there is the intangible but very real prize of national pride at stake. Both managers know only too well how much will be riding on the match, regardless of how much it actually matters in terms of qualification.

It will be interesting to see, then, how the young players on both sides of the pitch will cope with the pressure. Cool heads are required, something stereotypically lacking from teenagers, but these particular teens are professionals in demeanour if not necessarity in contract. Krytenia have the buffer zone for now, but they know that defeat will pull them back into the group maelstrom. Let's hope, for a myriad of reasons, that doesn't happen. Onward!

All of Sarzonia Under 18 national team manager Diogo Avarel's frustration with his team's lackadaisical approach on the training pitch and the less than serious banter both during and after the sessions were for naught.

As soon as the referee's whistle blew, the jokes and laughter stopped and the Baby Stars were right down to business. Timothy Raintree made six saves, Ian Clarke scored twice, and Sarzonia made things look easy in their opening 3-0 victory over San Jose Guayabal on Matchday One.

Sarzonia (1-0-0) had a bye on Matchday Two.

The jubilant dressing room included a manager who soon realised that his team took the matches more seriously than they did the mundane passing drills and rote sessions he typically put them through.

Avarel and his assistant managers decided to go out that night to get a chance to enjoy the scene in Coolville. They got a table overlooking the centre of town and saw someone who looked familiar in a long, flowing dress walking down the street. Avarel narrowed his eyes until he realised that it was reserve defender Von Page. His eyes widened, then he scooted back in his chair and began to rise until he saw Tim Lankford put his arm up and parallel to the ground.

"Ben's with him, um, I mean them," Lankford said.

Avarel remained in a half-standing, nearly seated position for a moment. He looked and saw DiSoto along with a couple of other players walking with Page. His eyes reverted to normal and he lowered himself back into his chair.

He would be the first to admit he didn't understand the complexities surrounding gender nonconformity. He struggled with his thoughts and feelings with openly gay players on the senior Stars, but part of that had to do with two players having sex in the dressing room.

He knew the history between Page and Ben DiSoto. Ben's brother Kenny was also supportive, but the bond between Page and Ben DiSoto was a sight to behold. It was a powerful chemistry that Avarel didn't always understand, but he learned over the years to never question something like that when it worked.

Terre Septentrionale wins their first two games!

Coolville, Baker Park - The under 18 World Championship is underway in Baker Park and the Nordiques won their first two games. A 2-1 win against Jeckland, the current World Laccrosse Championship hosts, and a 3-0 win versus the Jovannic. Game one was played in Coolville at the State College Stadium. Terre Septentrionale answered back at the 68th minute when Nicolas Gariépy made a long pass to Urszula Więckowska who dribbled and made a short pass to Gabriel Pinsonneault, in the penalty area, who kicks the ball. The ball touches Player's arm and he gets a yellow card. It's a penalty for the Reprezentacja Nordycki. Kellerville, Baker Park - Game two was played in Kellerville, a much smaller town just west of Coolville. Terre Septentrionale knew they shouldn't underestimate their opponent and played very well, and the Jovannic looked like a team with no morale and no fighting edge compared to us. The Northmen attacked at the 25th minute when Kristóf Rácz-Takács passed to Anne-Frédérique Bellefleur-Deschamps who dribbled with the ball and passed to Urszula Więckowska who kicks and the ball is in! 1-0 Terre Septentrionale. 7 minutes later, Xavier Turgeon-McGee made a long pass to Léina-Anne Bellefleur-Deschamps who made a cross to her twin sister Anne-Frédérique Bellefleur-Deschamps who shoots and she scores! The Nordiques are leading 2-0. With these two wins to start the Under 18 cup, Terre Septentrionale has two wins and 6 points in two games. We are tied with Vdara in the standings but they have a better goal difference than us. Chromatika and Sarzonia follows in 3rd place with a win in one game, which means they already had their bye week. Our next game is against San Jose Guayabal, usually one of the top team in the multiverse but they've been somehow dormant lately. The starting XI will be the same as the first two games.

Greetings, our dear viewers!
It's TTV from Baker Park. All of us, of course, were waiting for this game with very mixed feelings, completely not know how it all will be looked like at the end.

We are happy to say that our U18 team pleased us with a victory for the first time in almost exactly two years, since the victory over Equestria in the debut championship.

And the sweeter the joy of victory is that it was achieved over a very serious rival, our old friends from Poafmersia. Neighbors on the KPB table, like us, they are switching to a new game system, with emphasis on the strength of defensive orders, and therefore our match did not promise many goals from the very beginning. But I must say, both teams played very bravely and clearly they did not sit in defense. Game was rather spectacular in the first half.

Middleton spent the entire first half tormented up our the defense on the left flank, and only after the break, when, apparently, Morten Kerr explained something to his lads, finally being put under control, and in the second half he was almost invisible.

After about a fifteen minutes of the careful game, Poafmersia had a great chance to score a goal, Middleton made a very sharp cross from the flank, and Stevenson was already in position. The desperate jump of Quinten, who had lost striker, didn’t help, the striker managed to shot the ball, but missed gates just a little bit.

Image

Once again, this two poafmersians make a great chance to score in the 33rd minute. This time, however, Stevenson was under pressure from two defenders, got the ball in a much less advantageous position, and altought he struck ball like nail with hammer, sharply and powerfully, our goalkeeper managed to cope with this.

Image

In between of these events, our team also attacked several times, and at the 21st minute, many in the stands thought that Reuser put himself on a goalsheet after Langbroek's long cross, but in reality the ball, as is obvious when watching on TV, did not cross the goal line.

Image

But at the 40th minute, Knopper gave an excellent accurate pass forward, and Skjold take the chance by both hands, using it fully. The defenders of Poafmersia felt that he was in the offside, but the judge ruled otherwise. Skjold rushed to the goal like an arrow, going around the goalkeeper at speed and shot at the empty goal, proving that he was not by coincidence entrusted with a place in the Premier League team.

Image

The second half was much calmer, with almost no scoring chances, the teams perfectly balanced each other and none could impose their game, so the match ended in a victory for our guys.

Of course, we all sighed more freely when the game ended, and yet we expect our team to win their next match faster than two years later.

On the train to New Richmond
Endover, Baker Park

"What a pretty place."
Duy Khánh thinks as he looks out into the scenery while the train keeps dashing forward across the green countryside. Over the past few days, he has grown to love the country he is in. The cities are well-planned, while the people, despite their outward formality, are friendly and kindhearted. But most of all, the foods are amazing, although Minh Vũ will argue that he prefer the rice-heavy cuisine of Mavinet more than the potato-based foods in Baker Park. To each their own.

He and Minh Vũ woke up early this morning and enjoy a good bacon and sausage breakfast at the Huntington Plaza West Endborough. The cozy feel of the hotel and the tasty breakfast put both journalists in a good mood and ready to have a productive day. They should be, because today is the first matchday of the 11th Sporting World Cup. Gathering all of their equipment and belongings, Duy Khánh and Minh Vũ head to the train station to catch a ride to New Richmond, where Mavinet's U18 national team will play HUElavia in their opening game. The town is about 45 minutes away from Endborough, so the two coworkers have plenty of time to read up on the expected lineups and pre-match statistics, as well as preparing their laptops for the reporting later on. Of course, the two also take their time to admire the lush and well-preserved nature of the host country.

Arriving at the Lytle Five Points Road a few hours before the match, Duy Khánh and Minh Vũ check in at the media entrance and head up to the press box to prepare their equipments. A few fellow journalists from other groupmate countries are also there in the room: representatives from Cassadaigua's Concord Heights Times, Tequilo's GOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL-a!!! Daily and of course, HUElavia's press team. The teams arrive shortly after. As Minh Vũ heads to the pre-match press conference, Duy Khánh manages to interview a few young Mavinese players after the pre-match training. The two journalists come back up the press box afterward after a light snack.

"Whew, that was busy. It's surely a lot more work to be done than I have experienced." Duy Khánh wipes sweat off his forehead with a napkin.

"Yeah, you haven't done any international tourney right? You kinda have to dash about a lot. That's why we travel in pairs, sometimes even more, for events like this." Minh Vũ nods his head while leaning back on his seat.

"Makes me kinda hungry already..."

"Dude, really? We just ate. Seems like all you think about on this trip is the foods."

"Can't blame me. The foods here are great. Let's go check out the potato salad place near our hotel after the match."

"If I have to eat one more potato, I swear..."

Minh Vũ couldn't finish his sentence because the teams are heading out on to the pitch, Mavinet in red and HUElavia blue. The anthems played, the hands shaken and the halves picked. It's showtime.

Mavinet start off aggressively pressing the HUElavian players to their half. Van The Vu, Ho Tan Long and Tran Van Cung constantly threaten the opponents' back line and make several dangerous attempts before the 15th minute mark. HUElavia are still standing firm despite the pressure, thanks to the physical advantage they have over Mavinet's relatively smaller attackers. The young Water Buffaloes's efforts would soon be rewarded in the 24th minute, though, as HUElavia's Nil Rey makes a misjudged tackle inside the box to bring down Van The Vu. The referee points to the penalty spot, and a yellow card is brandished for the 15-year-old defender. Tran Van Cung makes no mistake on the spot and calmly converts the spot kick. 1-0 for Mavinet.

HUElavia didn't come third last time out of pure luck. They have experience, they have creativity and they have players who can change the tide of the game. Rafael Savedra is one such player. After conceding the first goal, HUElavia regroup and mount several dangerous counter-attacks with both speed and precision. In one such situation in the 44th minute, Mathieu Guilbert skillfully dispossesses Huynh Kim Tuan in midfield and launches a counter-attack quickly through Alfonso Hidalgo. The ball is then passed on to Savedra, who tricks Bui Van Khanh and cut inside toward the goal. He then nutmegs Le Hoang Hai before blasting the ball to the roof of the goal, leaving Ha Tien Linh no chance to parry.

It is Rafael Savedra again 11 minutes into the second half with a stunner from 20 meters out. Before that goal, Savedra and Hidalgo play some eye-catching one-two passing game that rival those displayed in the senior World Cups. Mavinet now have to play catch up against a stronger team. In the press box, Duy Khánh watches the game anxiously, trying hard to not facepalm every time the young Water Buffaloes miss a good chance.

The match winds down to the last 10 minutes. With all 3 substitutions made for the midfield and forward positions, Head Coach Tran Tuan Hung clearly wants to salvage a point from this match. It is understandable given the next match with Starblaydia and the fact that HUElavia starts slowing down toward the end. Chau Tan Tai brings the much needed strength to the front line, while the speed of Dang Thanh Binh poses a serious threat to the now tired HUElavian defenders. With only 4 minutes to go, a combination of the two players creates an opening for Dang Thanh Binh to face the goalkeeper. A shot made, and the small Mavinese part of the stadium erupts into cheers and celebrations. The score is equalized. Duy Khánh almost jumps out of his seat, but remembers in the last second he is not supposed to show favoritism in the press box. Minh Vũ looks to his colleague and gestures with his eyes to calm the junior journalist down. Duy Khánh clenches his teeth but still manages to make the slightest fist pump ever witnessed by a human. The two quickly returns to their laptop to finish the writing.

After sending the report to HQ and attending the post-match conference, Duy Khánh expresses his happiness as soon as he gets outside the stadium.

"Woohoo. That last goal was fire. Did you see how Tan Tai pinned the defender down and flicked a pass to Thanh Binh? That's quality stuffs. I though we were gonna lose this one. Man, it's also bad luck losing the opening game."

"Yeah that was good but don't get carry away in the press box, bro. We could've got kicked out. Geez it's not the first time you cover football matches." Minh Vũ mildly scolds his friend, trying to hide the fact that he is also happy with the result.

"I know, but it is the first time I cover the national team playing in a world class tournament. Plus it's so dramatic with that ending, don't you think?"

"YOU're dramatic, but HQ are gonna like the drama you wrote. It's also good not having to witness a loss on the first game. The boys played ok today. Let's hurry back to Endborough before it's pitch dark outside."

"You're right. Let's hurry back and try that potato salad before they close."

"For the last time, I will not.... Hey wait up."

Minh Vũ rushes after Duy Khánh, who ran off toward the train station.

Kalactin hops out to 1-1-0 start
Welp folks! The first games are done, and we have some surprises in the books for you here. The Kalactanians, were placed in a group with many teams that have experience in the cup, along with some newer ones to balance out the tables. Oberour Ar Moro, one of the more experienced teams in the group, but not necessarily a power one, played the Kalactanians in the first game of the U-18 World Cup for them. The Kalactanians, being one of the rising teams in the world, has a “golden generation” that is expected to start playing on the National Team in World Cup 87 and 88. We are looking at some of the players of this generation, right now in this Sporting World Cup. Many of the players that are expected to make the national team then are starting to come of age, and be some of the strongest players in the Nation. Take Thomas Butler for example, not even playing on the U-18 National Team, and will be expected to possibly start in the next World Cup. This means that many of the players from this team will be the stars of the so-called “Golden Generation”.

The first game, which was against Oberour Ar Moro, was a good one for the Kalactanians, but many of the players on the team showed their age and had trouble competing with the players of Oberour Ar Moro, who ended up scoring 2 goals on them during the first half. The Kalactanians of course, are a extremely offensive team, if the other team scored 2 goals, there is a decent shot that the Kalactanians scored 3, or 4, so it was not a surprise that they were able to come through and win the game in the end. Savojarna, also in the Kalactanians group managed to pull out a win against Rwezaka, and also grab 3 points on that match day. On the second match, the Kalactanians played the United States of Devonta, a team that they have played quite a few times before and have a good history with. Surprisingly, the match would end up to go to a scoreless tie in the end, much different from the game against Obeuor Ar Moro the day before. The Kalactanians are currently tied for first in the group with a team that is making a sudden return to International Sports. Lovisa. They are a team that made the Semifinals of World Cup 34,and maybe they have some magic left in there, who knows, they have a shit at the group. We are also in a group with 2 teams we have played quite a few times before, Free Republics and Savojarna, 2 teams that we have faced in WCQs before, and many other times. Where will this group go? Who knows. All we know is you will be in for a wild ride in Group D.
