Under 18 World Championship preview

Coolville, Baker Park - The Under 18 World Championship is about to start and Terre Septentrionale has been drawn in group B with fellow World Cup 85 group mates Chromatika and Jovannic, World Cup 84 group mates Sarzonia, the famous nation of San Jose Guayabal, WLC hosts Jeckland and newcomers Vdara. It's not sure what to expect from this group, actually Sarzonia seems to be the team to beat with Terre Septentrionale and Jovannic sending good squads too. The other teams, including Chromatika and San Jose Guayabal, have yet to reveal their rosters. We're not going to analyse every team, let's talk about our squad.

Top players on the team

The best player in this U18 squad is striker and team captain Gabriel Pinsonneault. The striker with the funny name, cuz the word pinsonneau means finch in English, has been on the U18 squad since he was 16 and he projects to be on the starting XI alongside with Fryderyka Cwierczakiewiczowa. Yes he's expected to be better than Sandie McCracken and Zvonimir Kordic! Pinsonneault can score goals in any ways and he's fast. He could also play attacking midfielder because he would be ok defensively but his favorite position is striker because he just like scoring goals.

Side defender Xavier Turgeon-McGee is also one of the ebst player on the team. He's a fast player and offensively he can make beautifull passes to our midfielders. Defensively, he's hard to beat and don't hesitate to cover a large portion of the pitch due to his fastness. Turgeon-McGee also projects to be on the national team in the future, probably as a reservist.

Attacking central midfielder Urszula Więckowska is also one of the top player on the team, she will feed Pinsonneault will her top notch passes and she can score too. Defensively she can defend too. It's not sure if she will be on the national team in the future.

We have two twins at side midfielder, Léina-Anne Bellefleur-Deschamps and Anne-Frédérique Bellefleur-Deschamps, both a product of En avant Prévost. They're on the U18 starting XI and they're just 17 years old, they'll be even better next year! They can do everything on the field, they can score, pass the ball, make crosses. They also project to be on the national team in the future, maybe on the starting XI.

Central defenseman Kristóf Rácz-Takács ia another very good player on the U18 team and a good tackler. Because of other youngsters Arkadiusz Krzykowski (my older brother), Karolina Zaborowska, Alexandre Massicotte, Walter van den Dikkenberg and Melania Wloszczowska there's no room for him on the national team in the future but he's still very good.

Zaharias Frangoglou - Fresh out of the academy, this young shot stopper is raring to go following decent performances. A product of the national team’s recent dive into forming their own academy rather than snatching their players from established sides, Zaharias has impressed many with his reflexes and diving ability, and at 6’4” he towers over most of his teammates.

Anargyros Zerveas - Following Vdara’s disappointing last place finish in the last Sporting World Cup, Anargyros earned himself a move to Taeshan in an attempt to prove that he was in fact still a solid player with great potential. The move boosted his confidence and helped him grow as a player, and this time around he’s hoping to prove many more doubters wrong.

Trifonas Tolakis - Cool names are an oddly effective way of making your way into one of the national team, and Trifonas Tolakis has managed to capitalise on that opportunity fully. Another product of the national team’s academy, the youth scouts predict that he’ll go far, and that commentators will enjoy saying his name out loud.

Stamatios Christakos - How many academy graduates can you have in one squad? The answer is six, and Stamatios is the third one in this list. This lad has never skipped leg day, and could probably crush a watermelon with his thighs - if he could be bothered. His sheer strength allows him to make great tackles and clearances, all while striking fear into more scrawny opponents.

Akakios Demotis - Here’s another player who moved to Taeshan after a disastrous performance last time around. Not much to say about this one, and I can’t see him breaking into the first team, to be honest.

Lambros Tantalopoulos - What do you know, it’s academy graduate number four! As the name implies, Lambros is quite pacey, which is quite odd for a central-defensive midfielder. However, this helps him be a deadly force in counter attacks, and he also helps maintain the 2-man midfield with Akakios Demotis.

Alkiviadis Manolakis - A name which will be familiar with very few people, Alkiviadis is yet another of those who left for pastures new after the last performance. Earning himself a move to Kita-Hinode, Manolakis has done quite well, and would quite like to stand out in the squad.

Themistoklis Muleas - Another remnant from the previous edition of the Sporting World Cup, Muleas will be looking to try and be quite prolific in front of goal, and maybe even catch the attention of Lükækš Væñøœrëñbérghüïś, the first team manager.

Andrianos Petras - Following the advancement of Nik Cosmidis to the first team, Petras was called up from the Academy to replace him. He’s definitely quick, and it seems like he’ll be able to slot straight into that 5-man attacking force.

Mathaios Makrotsis - The last academy graduate of this lineup, Makrotsis will be looking to develop his skills and perfect his abilities in this tournament. At the very young age of 15, Makrotsis has plenty time to perfect his abilities and catch the attention of club scouts so that he can give his career a jumpstart.

Manousos Scafididis - Last but not least, we have Manousos Scafididis. Yet another remnant of the last Sporting World Cup squad, Manousos has been looking to improve ever since. Amazingly, he has, and his pace and agility have only gotten better with time. He’ll be one to watch out for!

Information
Manager: Markos Moustakakos
If any of you have paid attention to Vdara’s meteoric rise up the ranks from unranked to mid-60s in just two cycles, you’ll have noticed one man between the sticks. His name is Markos Moustakakos, and although he’s yet to retire from the national team, his escapade in the last Sporting World Cup (where he took charge of the squad temporarily) has earned him the secondary role of U-18 Manager. Markos is not as hot headed as First Team manager Lükækš Væñøœrëñbérghüïś (and he’s probably not as good either), but he has passion and he’s somehow better than the previous U-21 manager, so he’s got the job.

Savojar Roster for SWC 11

With Savojarna’s new national development system, subsumed under the World Class 90 project that was presented during the past Sporting World Cup two years ago, finally kicking off, the team presented this year is a side that is primarily made up by graduates of the new Högvald National Football Academy; however, some are directly tied to a club academy as well. The players playing at Högvald are about to be released into the wild after the SWC, graduating from the Academy to be picked up by the Multiverse’s football clubs either through SFS scouts or through direct transfers.

A brief note on fans from Savojarna: Although you may be used to RP's mentioning large scale fan groups with loud drums and pyros, this does not apply to the SWC. Youth sports is pretty much inexistent as an audience sport in Savojarna, whose inhabitants generally don't live far from a professional team and prefer to follow those. Youth sports, including the SWC, are not typically broadcast on TV and not many fans will attend. While there was a large group travelling to Taeshan for SWC 10, this was primarily due to the Savojar success in the Group Stage and the fact that Taeshan borders Savojarna; no more than roughly 300 Savojars are expected to travel to Baker Park (this number may grow a little for KO games).

TEAM

STAFF

Coach: Thorbjörn Samuelsson
Age: 38 // Coach since: SWC 10

Coaching Team: Alexey Jotanov, Dmitri Simunov, Asgeir Rundberg
Ages: 48, 40, 65 // Special functions: Technical coach, Mental and Video coach, Physical trainer

Goalkeeper Coach: Valtteri Andersson
Age: 47

Doctor: Dr. Christer Ljungberg
Age: 53

TEAM

Goalkeepers

#1 Morten Henberg
Position: GK // Age: 18 // Height: 197 cm // Club: Motor Johansborg
#12 Henrik Lidström
Position: GK // Age: 18 // Height: 189 cm // Club: Högvald National Football Academy
#23 Antti Poutiainen
Position: GK // Age: 16 // Height: 185 cm // Club: Metsuri Virkaja U17

Henberg has been a hotshot at age 16 and was brought to the Sporting World Cup, although he didn’t play, in order to be groomed to be the follow-up to Sergey Sharin at the U18 stage. He has retained his height advantage, and is overall a very physically strong goalie with good reflexes, speed, and jumping ability. Henberg is a shot stopper who is likely to start all games. Lidström has been Högvald Blue’s starting goalie and is a sweeper keeper completely antithetical to Henberg, although they share a strength in their physical attributes, as both are fast and good jumpers. Poutiainen is in a similar position as Henberg last year, and will likely not be playing at all. If he plays, he is an allrounder with no defined style yet, but has so far shown some strength in clearing out crosses and defending against high balls, but struggles in the one versus one.

Defenders

#2 Ansgar Klaey
Position: LB // Age: 18 // Height: 178 cm // Club: Högvald National Football Academy
#3 Pontus Magnusson
Position: CB // Age: 18 // Height: 188 cm // Club: Högvald National Football Academy
#4 Björn Sundqvist
Position: CB // Age: 18 // Height: 182 cm // Club: Nord-Sjoedrhavn FF
#5 Henning Svarthus
Position: RB // Age: 18 // Height: 185 cm // Club: FK Metall Jarnstad U21
#17 Janne Palander
Position: CB // Age: 18 // Height: 181 cm // Club: Högvald National Football Academy
#18 Asgeir Olasson
Position: RB // Age: 17 // Height: 171 cm // Club: Framfarir Kjefla U17
#20 Lubomir Petrov
Position: LB // Age: 17 // Height: 179 cm // Club: Mir Nestrovo U21
#22 Anna Letov
Position: CB // Age: 18 // Height: 180 cm // Club: Högvald National Football Academy

The left back position is traditionally an offensive and technical position in Savojarna, and this class is no exception. Ansgar Klaey in particular is a fast and technically adept player, who doesn’t fear overlapping and can also play as a more defensively oriented left midfielder. Petrov is a bit more clearly defensive and has experience of playing at the SFS B level, although only in few games when Mir suffered from injuries. The right side is a bit more defensively oriented, with the likely starter being Henning Svarthus, who almost plays as a third centre-back at times and is a physically strong player. Olasson is a more offensive man, playing forward much and being able to build a game from the back.
In the centre, Pontus Magnusson fits the classical Savojar gap of “physical and highly defensive centre-back”, and has been a cornerstone of Högvald Blue together with Lidström. Anna Letov and Janne Palander, the back line of Högvald White, have exceptional harmony and are very strong in defending together, and both are speedy backs that are good at duelling opponents one versus one; however, they have some weaknesses in the air. Sundqvist is a jack of all trades, and one of very few players to play against adults regularly, although only in the semi-professional third division. He is very clever and can cover over his weaknesses easily.

Midfielders

#6 Adrian Klaebo -- [C]
Position: DM // Age: 18 // Height: 177 cm // Club: Lokomotive Jarnstad U21
#8 Staale Pedersen
Position: CM // Age: 18 // Height: 180 cm // Club: Högvald National Football Academy
#10 Aleksi Ontamäki
Position: OM // Age: 18 // Height: 174 cm // Club: Högvald National Football Academy
#11 Kaisa Gyldenström
Position: RM // Age: 18 // Height: 178 cm // Club: CASK Thorsborg U21
#13 Per Nyqvist
Position: CM // Age: 18 // Height: 183 cm // Club: Högvald National Football Academy
#14 Gulbrandr Arnason
Position: RM // Age: 16 // Height: 177 cm // Club: SK Cuprum Grennvik U17
#15 Pernilla Hoesflot
Position: DM // Age: 18 // Height: 170 cm // Club: Högvald National Football Academy
#16 Grigori Simunov
Position: DM // Age: 17 // Height: 185 cm // Club: RLSK Pawlograd U17
#21 Ilari Milvonen
Position: LM // Age: 18 // Height: 168 cm // Club: Kallora IF

The defensive midfield is stacked and will see some rotation, but in general, its centrepiece can reasonably be expected to be in Adrian Klaebo. He has already been participating in the past Sporting World Cup and just about makes the age limit for this one, making him the oldest player in the team; since then, he has grown from an elegant, albeit somewhat shaky midfielder to a bona fide regista who excels at organising play from the back. Next to him, Simunov and Hoesflot are both defensively oriented “shutdown” options, with the former working more through his physicality and height and the latter being a clever, sneaky defender who has excellent positioning and a good ability to snipe balls off her opposition’s feet to compensate for her short stature. Finally, Per Nyqvist also plays in the back row regularly, taking on a more offensive role, but relying on speed and stamina to shuttle balls back and forth rather than the brilliant long balls of a Klaebo.

In the front row, we find another allround central midfielder in the person of Staale Pedersen. Like Nyqvist, he is a strong shuttler, but due to his precise long shots, good techniques, and weaker defensive play he is usually positioned higher up the pitch. He is also considered excellent at pressing. Aleksi Ontamäki is the starting playmaker of this side, and can also pose an excellent goal threat as he has proven as a support striker for Högvald White. He is strong at shielding the ball and has a very precise shot, as well as being a free kick specialist. With Klaebo on playmaking duty from behind, he will likely focus on looking for opportunities to score as well as assist. On the left side, Ilari Milvonen is the second player of the squad with adult experiences at third-division Kallora. He is a quick, technically brilliant winger who plays precise crosses, but lacks defensive strength and can easily be beaten physically. On the right side, Kaisa Gyldenström is probably set as a starter. The CASK Academy member is a clever and tricky starter, lacking the speed of a Milvonen but knowing many tricks to make it almost impossible to take balls off her. Her backup is Arnason, the youngest man on the team, but a pressing monster with great positioning and stamina. His youth may play against him in terms of intelligence and physical presence, however.

Forwards

#7 Anders Wallgren
Position: LF // Age: 17 // Height: 177 cm // Club: Högvald National Football Academy
#9 Pavel Ivanov
Position: ST // Age: 18 // Height: 192 cm // Club: Högvald National Football Academy
#19 Malena Hensberg
Position: ST // Age: 17 // Height: 178 cm // Club: Rotor Värstjö U21

Pavel Ivanov is the archetypical Savojar frontline striker, tall and broad for his age, and blessed with a deadly heading ability. However, he somewhat lacks goal instinct, often preferring to shield balls and play them off to his mates. This has worked decently in the Högvald White two-top, but as the national team is expected to play with only one striker, it may prove harder. Malena Hensberg provides the killer instinct that Ivanov may lack, but often struggles with precision, shooting many balls out of play with highly optimistic shots. Finally, Wallgren is a more offensive wing option who typically plays on the left as a goal-oriented winger for Högvald Blue, but can swap to the right for a more offensive crossing winger as well. He is a high-stamina player with incredible work ethic, making runs for lost balls from start to finish, but lacks any flashy plays that a Milvonen may provide.

The adjective is Savojar; Savojarnan is not a word!

This time around, there will be no sneaking up on teams.

That was the message from Sarzonia Under 18 national team manager Diogo Avarel to his charges after a lacklustre training session.

He knew the Baby Stars were now facing expectations after a surprise run through their debut appearance in the Sporting World Cup. The players adapted to playing together fairly quickly, and the defence in particular gelled quickly in time for the knockout rounds.

The offence was the first unit to gel, the defence followed suit later, and Avarel was already preparing for his team's opening match against San Jose Guayabal. Sarzonia would have their bye on Matchday Two before they faced Vdara on Matchday Three.

They would have a familiar foe, at least in other competitions in Terre Septentrionale for Matchday Four before batting Chromatika on Matchday Five. They wrap up the group stage with contests against Jeckland and Jovannic.

As the players exited the training grounds and returned to their hotel rooms, Von Page and Ben DiSoto were getting ready for a night on the town. Von was eyeing a nightgown and a suit, not sure which of the two outfits they should wear. Kenny DiSoto, Ben's brother, was already on his way to the designated location, so Von asked Ben's opinion.

"What do you think, Ben?"

Ben DiSoto looked at both outfits carefully. He himself didn't have much flair in his closets, but as Page's closest friend on the Baby Stars, he relished supporting a guy who was closer to him than anyone on the team other than his brother by blood. They were all but brothers after the DiSotos' father took Ben to the outside of Page's home to pick them up after their father kicked them out for coming out as gender nonconforming.

So Ben DiSoto's recommendation of the suit over the dress was truly because he thought the suit would bring out Page's eyes. Page knew that and they trusted both DiSoto brothers. Avarel wouldn't pretend to understand gender nonconforming people, but he understood the close relationship between Page and the DiSoto brothers. He had the three room together in the hotel.

The two Baby Stars reserve defenders soon caught up to Kenny DiSoto and the three soon showed just how powerful the chemistry among the three players was.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL UNDER-18 ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM - MEN'S

This is the tenth time that Abanhfleft will be participating in an international under-18 football competition. After the absolute disaster that was the 6th Under-18 World Cup in the Free Republics, everything about the Fleftic under-18 team has been dismantled. Few if any players from the team that failed to make it out of the group stage of the previous tournament. The manager, long-time servant that he was and having led Abanhfleft to four out of five finals, has been sacked for ignoring the warning signs showing that this was a team beginning to fall apart. Anyone who returns from the previous Under-18 World Cup roster is either very lucky or very talented, talented enough to not warrant an exclusion from the team. Fresh new team, fresh start, right?

Home - agave blue shirts with charcoal & white trim; agave blue shorts; white & agave blue hooped socks
Away - desert gold shirts; gold shorts & socks - all with agave blue & white trim.

In the sprawling, continent-spanning country of Tequilo - more formally the Allied States of Tequilo or PAT, Patrias Aliadas de Tequilo - football was traditionally a matter for the regional sports authorities. So large and geographically interesting is Tequilo, that it once was formed of nine nations - six Latinique former colonies of the Costelloan Empire and three Indigo city-state empires - who clubbed together as jolly good friends and neighbours to gang up on their dreadfully superior and bossy neighbour to the north, a place they prefer to call Horizonte Oscuro. Anyway that is a history lesson for another cutoff, but in terms of football - or Pitxi in the local dialect - like most things it remained governed on a local basis by the nine football associations. But recently, in an effort to improve the quality of the pitxi on offer (and not at all to make more money, nonono) the nine associations formed one national association, the Unión de Pitxi de Tequilo; and the UPT has formed a national play-off system to decide it's country's annual champion. The authorities also organised the first ever national youth tournament, the Liga-J under-19 league, won by Argón Tacranza.

Ambitiously, it also entered the new national team - which had never existed in all the time pitxi was played across the PAT - into the recent World Cup cycle. Inexperienced in such matters, the UPT has appointed foreign type Dik ten Beuenk, 88, as Team Director. Ten Beuenk oversaw the entry of the tiny Principality of Mustardy into the last World Cup, where an unremarkable campaign exploded into life with an away victory in South Covello, one of the modern giants of the game. That, and the fact that the Red Herrings were not thrashed pillar-to-post through qualifying, won the UPT over when looking for an experienced head to guide this inexperienced nation through a World Cup campaign. Under ten Beuenk and coaches Mauricio Nores for the Baptism of Fire and Isaac Martí for the rest of the cycle, the agave-blues impressed with a BoF third-placed bronze medal, a good showing in World Cup qualifying to finish fourth of 13 in the group, and reaching the knockout stages of the Cup of Harmony.

Now, under the guidance of ten Beuenk, the architect of football modernisation in Tequilo, the national team is looking to build on the success of the popular Liga-J by forming the squads of the future: they have taken an entry into the Under-18 World Cup, and have declared intention to field an under-23 team for the Independent Associations Championship, having opted not to compete in The Land of The Pointy Ears for the Under-21 World Cup.

Under ten Beuenk’s plan, the new teams will also provide a path of success for the national team coaches and managers, with promotions for squad coaches and new opportunities for veteran players looking to move into the world of coaching. Current national team manager Isaac Martí is appointed Director of both junior teams, while his present assistants Juan Manuel Botín and Luka Entenza become head coaches of the under-18s and under-23s respectively. Two of the national team’s most prized veteran players, Callañuapa and Haize Apeiztegui, step up as assistants for each squad.

For the purpose of media marketing, the PR company attached the UPT has decided the national team will take the nickname Los Pitxileros - the imaginative epithet translates as ’The Footballers’ - although the press and fans mostly prefer to use ’the agave-blues’ on account of their shirt colour.

BACKROOM STAFF
Head Coach: Juan Manuel Botín, 35, recently retired player for Motozintla, learning his trade with Isaac, apparently destined for moderatly good things.
Team Director: Isaac Martí, 55, head coach of the national team and former coach at Motozintla FC.
Coach: Callañuapa, 35, quiet and confident defensive midfielder coming to the last of his playing days at Equipo Caimán, recently retired from the national team as a supporter’s favourite.
Coach: Terenzio Ramon, 42, much-admired coach at national champions Pitxi-Pitxi 77, getting his first secondment to the national set-up.
Team Captain: Patricio Seco, 18; the Acacoyagua defender is picked for his experience rather than his unpredictable temperament, having played regularly for the last two seasons for his home club.
Vice Captain: Ostando Bertandona, 18; another defender, of CF Frantxizko-A, perhaps the emerging wonderkid of this group and a more balanced and reliable foil to Patricio.

PLAYING STAFF
As expected there are a few picks from national youth champions Argón, including the young professor in defensive midfield, Omar Toledo, 15, who looks a real prospect. Coach Botín benefits from a decent number of players already emerging in their first team club squads as the State Championships and Liga-TQ enjoy a period of youthful enterprise, while four players are already regular starters - captain Patricio Seco along with SC Raití keeper Matias Caldas, and defenders Fernan Sotolongo and Mani of SC Pedregal and Asociación Olaya respectively. The ones to look out for? Argón’s Firmino Vale looks destined for great things, as does Fulgencio Çenturion from the 77os, but our pick for superstardom is Peru Urzagui’s flamboyant young winger, Jaïr Iscla.

The average Tequiloan has an exceedingly high SQ (shambolic quotient) meaning they are really very good at creating and thriving in chaos… they generally get things done, in a very roundabout and often nonsensical way, usually with an unbelievably high portion of luck. They are happy to lose, as long as it is in chaotic fashion - it's all about the journey, not the result. Apparently.

Always happy to collaborate - drop me a TG or call me out in RP (but maybe still drop me a TG in case I miss it…)

TROLLEBORG U18 TEAM

Image

HEAD COACH

Hendrick KERR. 50 years.
He lead team in the 9th U18 Cup, first ever international competition for Trolleborg, putting decent display, and was selected by the FA and fans to continue this endeavour. But team performed very unsuccessfully in subsequent tournaments, and the coach took the blame for this, expressed interest in returning to club football and demanded a new round of selection of the head coach of the youth team. But all potential candidates refused to run, wishing to express confidence in him. The vote itself brought him a solid vote of confidence, let's see how he justifies it.

TEAM

The lineup, which performed in the previous two seasons, almost completely left the stage. Named “Class IX”, the first players in history to enter the field in international sports under the flag of Trolleborg passed the first test with honor, but no more. It was decided to make the team from beginnings, with a view to use selected players at least in two cycles of international football. Excluding two forwards, all players are new to the team, and it is interesting to see how “class XI” shows itself.

After the name, the player’s age is shown, and the next number indicates where he is playing,
1-3 is a tiers of national football, beginning from National League at the top, 4 Youth League.

GOALKEEPERS
Roald Lamber (18). 4. Showing signs of being extraordinary keeper, with really enviable reflexes and clear understanding what better to do.
Aongus Askr (17). 4. Brave goalkeeper with good reflexes. Always thinking before coming off the line – but sometimes too much.
Alweyn Houtkoper (17). 3. Man of tremendous talent, everyone has said, and moved to the professional football early, but now things looked like it’s not his greatest idea, since he played rarely and this is reflected in both his skills and spirit. If team was created a year ago, it would undoubtedly be the first among three goalkeepers, but at the moment everything is far from obvious.

DEFENDERS
Theo Arissen (17). 2. Attacking right back, he is also solid in his defensive duties. He have his own place in the lineup of his team.
Andreas Broon (18). 1. Attack minded fullback. Altough aggressive player, he always gets fairly to win the ball
Heimir Wouters (17). 4. Fast and disciplined defender with a tremendous work rate.
Aodan Ongus (16). 3. This player combines talent and hard work. If luck not deserting him, he undoubtely moves up the ladder real quick.
Modreid Quinten (17). 2. Generally lines up in the heart of defence with tremendous coolness in tight situations
Reinhaut Mooren (17). 4. Left defender by place, he can Join attack quickly and dangerously
Ogge Haut (17). 4. Brave when going into the tackles and with acute positional sense
Tygo Tijmen (17). 2. Brave and spread sense of security. Depending on the way the team lines up, he can play central defender and defensive midfielder.
Hendrick Arkem (16). 4. Very tight and forceful marker, and can maintain concentration indefinitely – at least in the Youth League games.
Fearin Pander (16). 4. Generally played left back, altought on the occassion he takes position in the centre of defence

MIDFIELDERS
Ferster Aarts (17). 2. Hardworking player with good technical capacity, Ferster already began to make himself visible in our league, having won place in the line-up of the recent second division winner.
Wendelin Lijsebrand (16). 4. Altough just entering football life, he is promising prospect of our Youth League. His contribution to both attack and defence are sometimes really outstanding
Gwydion Agteren (17). 4. Left winger, disciplined and hardworking youngster, but it will be seen what he can do in the real football.
Wolter Rejser (16). 2. This versatile young player demonstrate extraordinary speed and agility, which earned him place in the second-level team, where he was on and off the field.
Nikolas Emmeren (17). 3. Posessed dribbling skills, but having tendency to do too much on his own, to the detriment of the teamwork.
Randers Knopper (16). 2. Younger brother of Martijn Knopper from Class IX. Having rather good individual technique, which allows him accurately pass ball whatever he want. Everyone seen him as a chief orchestrator of the side’s play
Gerolt Langbroek (17). 4. Likes to go down the flanks in speed and already known for his tremendously accurate passing
Vidar Hanraadts (16). 4. Known for his speed and agility, he try getting involved as much as only can. His skill allow him to play in several midfield positions.
Maarten Konchobard (16). 4. Dangerous player when he make runs into the box and good passer of the ball even in difficult situations

FORWARDS
Fintan Riper (16). 4. Efficiently cover a lot of space in short time, and his presence is a constant threat to the opposing goalkeepers, altough professional contract elude him for now.
Loiden Fagerhelm (16). 3. Equally at home at either midfield and attack, this fast player having both a good vision for passing and good shot for attacking moves.
Askjer Barwejgen (16). 4. Despite his young age, he already demonstrated powerful shot from both feets and his fighting spirit seems to know no limits.
Karsten Reuser (18). 1. One of the names, which everyone is likely to hear about in the coming years, Reuser is already well-known for his scoring flair, and his manner of the game is similar to fame-covered Stuart Kerr. Altough he is always try to find the ball and shot as often as can, he was not obsessing with goalscoring, prefer to do what suit situation better.
Jasper Skjold (18). 1. Altought very young, he already having a reputation of a great master of avoiding man-marking and put himself where opportunity to put a goal exist. His goalscoring instincts already earned him a place in the first-level team and Jasper regularly gets on the scoresheet.

Following the main team, youngsters side switched to a new tactical scheme designed to reduce the number of goals conceded.

Style -2

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers Y
Godmod scoring events N
Roleplay injuries to my players Y, but only a slight one
Godmod injuries to my players N
Hand out yellow cards to my players Y, albeit no more than two per game
Hand out red cards to my players – generally N, but send me a message if you have something special in the mind
Godmod other events – N

FANS

Given the unimpressive results in previous youth competitions, difficulties with transport, since even the route network now stretching all over the world Trolleborg Wings did not reach Atlantic Oceania, where Baker Park is located, one would not expect an influx of fans. But even in spite of the fact that the Taeshan stay, which showed how inarticulate international tournaments can be, has significantly damaged the psyche of the fans, it is clear that the team has received strong support.

TTV

Image

TTV will try to broadcast games of our team, but it’s not always possible to ensure proper quality. Some colour changing can be viewed – goalkeeper in orange suit will looked like in a yellow or even black one etc.

Not Curran, but Shanley,
by Chelsea Dufresne, Concord Heights Times

As the 11th Sporting World Cup gets set to begin, there has been a last minute adjustment to the Cassadagan roster which will cause some adjustments to many. It was initially reported that Jessica Curran was going to return to this team in a head coaching role. That was going to particularly special for her as she has spent the last couple years in Baker Park as she looked to take her managerial career to the next level. However, a last second announcement has seen Curran step down from her position from this team before it actually begins. Something significant is in the works for her, and those of us in the know are not privy to announce the details of that yet. This also means do not send me emails hoping that I will reveal the information that I am aware of to you, because I will not do that. You can speculate all you want in the comment section. It will a big deal for her, and because of that, she has decided that she needs to focus now on that opportunity. This did leave CASE (Cassadagan Association for Soccer Excellence) in a bit of a bind as they needed to find a new manager for the team, and do it pronto. Stephanie Sweeney, the manager of the senior team, was asked if she would take the role, but she declined and instead suggested that Hannah Shanley, who served as her assistant during World Cup 85, get the chance.

Shanley has some similarities to Jessica Curran in that she played along side in her the backfield for the Cassadagan national team. Hannah was a part of the team from World Cups 80-84, but did not start in 84. That would include the team in 83 that made it all the way to the semifinals. She was named as an assistant coach to Stephanie Sweeney for World Cup 85. She is still only 35 years of age, and has not even formally retired from being an active player herself. This would seem to be a little early for her to be taking on this role, but getting Sweeney’s blessing goes a long way. It was also the easiest decision for CASE President Taylor Connolly, as it is likely that naming a veteran coach within the Cassadagan Soccer League could create some controversy about Stephanie Sweeney, herself. That would be unfair, as most believe that Sweeney has earned the right to stay in the position until she decides to step down. A big difference between Curran and Shanley, however, is that Curran was always considered a hot, blue-chip coaching candidate. Shanley, not quite as much. Shanley was also never a captain like Curran was, but playing beside her for a long time will only be beneficial.

The opportunity is great for Hannah now as she takes on the role, being given the roster of players that Jessica Curran actually put together. Since the team had not begun any serious practice sessions yet, Shanley should be able to gain control of the team pretty quickly. We do not expect to see any roster changes due to this coaching adjustment that has been made. As for the role, Shanley told the reporters, “Yes, it is happening pretty quick, but I am thoroughly honored and blessed to have this incredible opportunity. There were a lot of other people that could have been chosen for this position, and I am thankful to Taylor (Connolly) for going with me here. We have a lot of work to do now, but I expect it to be a smooth transition.”

This will be a tough tournament, considering the group opposition for the Fillies. Neighboring Mavinet is one of them, but also Starblaydia, who are no strangers to success at the junior levels. Tequilo, HUElavia, and Krytenia are formidable, and Sharktail ominously looms in the waters to be everyone’s spoiler. Youth tournaments are more about player development then results, but that best way to develop players is with positive results. Hopefully, this goes pretty well for us, but regardless, this is a great tournament to follow whenever it appears.

Fans
Poafmersian fans are crazy about football, and their loud cheers ring about in the stadiums they visit. They are very willing to disturb the peace in the area to celebrate their win after matches, so matches are best held in the afternoon or early evenings. Apart from that, they do pick up after themselves, and prevent causing much trouble apart from celebrating. You can be assured, however, that they would be travelling around to support their team, so do reserve half the spots in stadiums for them because they would pack it to the brim.

Sporting World Cup 11: Young Panjias aim to make waves this time
Extracted from multiple Poafmersian newspapers
Baker Park - Poafmersia aim to do better than the last round in the Under-18 World Cup, also known as the Sporting World Cup, with another set of players as compared to 2 years ago.
Only 5 players that went to Taeshan 2 years ago would participate in this competition, with captain Jordan Huerta being one of them. The new look squad has a more "defensive" look as compared to 2 years ago, with more defensive minded players among the players. According to head coach Nelson Sanchez, the untested players would provide a "different feel" as compared to past Poafmersian teams.
"I never expected the youth football to go defensive. In fact, I didn't force a playing style on them, their general vibes made me take out this playbook," said Sanchez. "The players prefer more possession-based football, scoring only when necessary. This is our general play style this time round then."

Poafmersia was drawn into Group C, in a competition format that would see a Playoff Round being played once again. 42 teams fight for 24 spots in the knockout stages, with the 1st placed nation in each group, as well as 2 overall best runners-up, getting byes into the Round of 16. For Poafmersia, there are some familiar teams in Group C which the senior team has met in recent years. The group features Trolleborg, a nation which entered the multiverse football from the same competition as Poafmersia, the Baptism of Fire 71; Quebec, whose senior team was in Poafmersia's World Cup Qualifying Group for the recent cycle; Siovanija & Teusland, whose senior team was in Poafmersia's qualification group for World Cup 84; as well as 3 other teams - Springmont, Error 458:No Nation Found, and the Northern Sovereign Islands. Nelson Sanchez has released his preliminary starting lineup for the first 2 matches, subject to last minute changes, as seen below.

Starting 11 against Trolleberg (4-1-2-1-2) - Bianca Levine; Dhaval Contreras, Ali Berger, Morris Marsden, Zak Kaloyanov; Plamen Naoumov; Leonora Hall, Eurig Popa; Rodolfo Middleton; Jordan Huerta (c), Hassan Stevenson

Starting 11 against Quebec (4-1-2-1-2) - Bianca Levine; Dhaval Contreras, Ali Berger, Morris Marsden, Zak Kaloyanov; Plamen Naoumov; Vytautas Westerberg, Vasilis Villaverde; Jordan Huerta (c); Hassan Stevenson, Bridgett Elliott

Siovanija & Teusland National U18 Football Team

Facts

Nation Name: United Republics of Siovanija and Teusland
Short Names: Siovanija and Teusland, the United Republics
Demonyms: Siovanijan, Teus
FA: Siovanija and Teusland Football Association (STFA)
Colours: Blue and gold
Anthem: ‘High Mountain Skies’
Capital City: Borograd
Other Major Cities: St. Jakob, Stelburg, Vlaikograd, Chernovets, Felsenkirchen
Highest Domestic Youth League: J. Republikaliga
Nicknames: The Goldhorns
Style Modifier: +1.5

Coaching Staff

Manager: Georg Heitmann (FC Teussen Stelburg)

Heitmann is a bit of a rising star at Teussen, having managed the club’s youth team for a few seasons’ now and having been a key part into making the academy into a factory of strong young players for the first team. He’s also won 2 J. Republikaliga titles, and guided Teussen to the Quarterfinal round of the IFCF Rising Stars’ Cup. He won’t be on the touchline for the Teussen youth team this year - earning a promotion to the senior squad as assistant manager, and looking likely to be the eventual heir to Kasper Knauer. He gets the nod from the STFA here, however, as manager of the team for the Sporting World Cup. Heitmann favours a 4-2-3-1 formation, and is slightly more attack-minded than defensive. Let’s meet the squad he’s chosen to bring to Baker Park.

23-man Squad

Goalkeepers

GK -- Lino Kaberle -- 18y/o -- #1 -- Sporting Iturributa (ASG) (On loan at Sporting Arkamo (ASG))
GK -- Koloman Bodeker -- 18y/o -- #22 -- FC Teussen Stelburg
GK -- Radoslav Hanus -- 17y/o -- #23 -- Olympia Borograd

Kaberle is the obvious star here - highly regarded at home, and sold for T4 million to Astograth’s giants Iturributa. He’s considered a very athletic goalkeeper, great at stopping shots - and, in an interesting quirk for a goalkeeper, excellent at penalties. Koloman Bodeker is also well-regarded at Teussen, and trusted by manager Heitmann, but he and Hanus are really here to fill the bench in case something should happen to Kaberle - that’s how good this young man is.

Left Backs

LB -- Sobeslav Volf -- 18y/o -- #3 -- FK Metropola Borograd
LB -- Thorsten Kornberg -- 18yo -- #13 -- FC Rotmunde 1932

There’s not that much difference between these two left backs - each good two-way options, Volf perhaps having a bit better cross on him and Kornberg being a bit more responsible in his own end, but overall they are both good players and will both be getting opportunities to shine here. Volf starts with the #3 shirt, but it’s entirely reasonable that the starting job could be in Kornberg’s hands by the end of the tournament.

Centre Backs

CB -- Reinhard Listner -- 18y/o -- #4 -- FC Teussen Stelburg
CB -- Gustav Machacek -- 18y/o -- #5 -- Olympia Borograd
CB -- Lars Dohl -- 18y/o -- #14 -- 1912 Stelburg
CB -- Thomas Kaberle -- 17y/o -- #15 -- Sporting Iturributa (ASG)

A Teussen and Olympia pairing at the back - that’s going to be a interesting sight for sure, and Reinhard Listner will be leading the way for the Goldhorns in this position. He’s widely considered to be one of the two biggest up-and-coming prospects at this position for the Goldhorns. Excellent on the ball - how many times have we said this about Teus centre backs? - and exceptionally strong already, he’ll be in the Teussen senior squad before long. Gustav Machacek is a big man very capable of winning headers, while Lars Dohl is very skilled at tackling. Thomas Kaberle is the other up-and-comer on this team, and while the 17 year old won’t be starting, he’ll likely see some minutes and get a good taste of international football. Having moved to Astograth’s Sporting Iturributa alongside his brother, goalkeeper Lino Kaberle, he’s also skilled on the ball.

Right Backs

RB -- Holger Hausseger -- 18y/o -- #2 -- FC Felsenkirchen 1879
RB -- Jiri Fiser -- 17y/o -- #12 -- FK Metropola Borograd

Holger Hausseger is a very safe option, excellent at man-marking and very good in his own half of the pitch - similar to the man he’s expected to take over for at Felsenkirchen one day, Thorsten Helmke. Jiri Fiser, meanwhile, is a more run-and-gun type of player, as Siovanijan fullbacks tend to be - he’ll have to rein himself in a bit more, however, if he wants to see minutes here.

Centre Midfield

CM -- Dietrich Traeger -- 18y/o -- #6 -- FC Teussen Stelburg
CM -- Andrej Vacek -- 18y/o -- #8 -- FK Metropola Borograd
CM -- Michal Spacek -- 17y/o -- #16 -- FK Venkovets

Dietrich Traeger is the biggest name here - he’s a hot prospect from Teussen, a very creative-minded midfielder who is capable of setting the pace of the game with the ball, and also has a killer through-ball. He’s similar to Todor Mihailov in that way. Andrej Vacek is a big, physical presence in midfield who serves as the holding option here, while Michal Spacek is a sort of Traeger-lite who needs to put some size on him before having a real shot at the Republikaliga for Venkovets.

Left Wing

LW -- Erwin Lubeck -- 18y/o -- #7 -- 1912 Stelburg
LW -- Ludvik Stepanek -- 18y/o -- #17 -- Energija Chernovets

Erwin Lubeck is the highly-touted winger on this team - one of the big names in the attacking positions here, really, and the dynamic left wing has been praised for his very quick pace and ability to beat defenders. Stepanek isn’t as fast, and is definitely raw - not the most physical of players.

Centre Attacking Midfield

CAM -- Franz Blumenthal -- 18y/o -- #10 -- FC Teussen Stelburg
CAM -- Rostislav Jagr -- 16y/o -- #20 -- FK Metropola Borograd

Blumenthal is the main option here - the reliable playmaker has had a big part of Teussen’s recent success at the youth level, and will be trusted by the manager here. But the name to watch is certainly Jagr - he’s torn it up for Metropola at the youth level, and is the biggest young prospect at the club right now. Compared to Viktor Dimitrov in some circles, his very bright future begins here.

Right Wing

RW -- Jaroslav Jezek -- 18y/o -- #11 -- Energija Chernovets
RW -- Thomas Schalle -- 17y/o -- #21 -- FC Teussen Stelburg

Another close one here - Jaro Jezek starts with the starting job, clearly, but Thomas Schalle has shined for Teussen on the right wing at the youth level, and given his familiarity with the manager, might just be able to steal away the starting job. Jezek’s best strength is his shot, while Schalle has been praised for his crossing ability.

Centre Forward

CF -- Marian Hovlak -- 18y/o -- #9 -- FK Orlovska Bistrica
CF -- Wenzel Unger -- 18y/o -- #18 -- 1912 Stelburg
CF -- Stepan Soucek --17y/o -- #19 -- FK Pomorie

For a country famous for its production of excellent forwards - Michael Ribbeck, Krasimir Kynev, Stanimir Ilev, Johannes Mandl, and a new generation coming led by Denis Dezelac - it was thought that this particular generation of forwards would be a little barren. Then, suddenly, Marian Hovlak appeared on the scene - thrown into the fire at Orlovska Bistrica last season as an emergency injury replacement, he quickly carved out a place for himself and helped lead his club to promotion to the Republikaliga. A great finisher, he’ll have a big role for his club in the top tier next season, and might be right behind Dezelac at the Di Bradini Cup. Unger and Soucek aren’t really expected to be anything special, Unger probably the best of the two backups, but Soucek might get some minutes as a big target man if a goal is needed late.

Expected Starting XI: Kaberle; Volf, Listner, Machacek, Hausseger; Traeger, Vacek; Lubeck, Blumenthal, Jezek; Hovlak

Set Pieces

Free Kicks: Franz Blumenthal, Erwin Lubeck
Penalties: Marian Hovlak, Erwin Lubeck, Lino Kaberle, Jaroslav Jezek, Dietrich Traeger

Kits

The home kit will be gold with black lettering and a black collar. It will feature black shorts as well as gold and black socks. The away kit will be white with gold lettering and a gold collar. It will feature gold shorts as well as white and gold socks. The goalkeeper kit will be green with gold lettering and a gold collar. It will feature green shorts as well as green and gold socks.

Greetings, dear compatriots!
It’s TTV and right now we will talk about the most important event of the day. Today Under 18 World Championship begins, the third for our national youth team. After promising first one, and second, where we are fail completely (partly due to the referees, but nonetheless), we all wanting to see how thing will unfolded now.

Our team will play Group C, as follows (KPB ranking, if applicable, in brackets, although in this case this information has only reference value): Poafmersia (44th), South Covello-affiliated Error 458:No Nation Found, Northern Sovereign Islands, Siovanija & Teusland (22nd), Independent Athletes from Quebec (78th) and Springmont. Rather interesting, hosts and some other nations called us here “Trolleberg”, due, undoubtely, to some religion-related things.

Of all rivals previously, our youth team met only with Siovanija & Teusland lads two years ago, when they hosted the entire tournament, and lost 0:2 in the first playoff round. “Adult” footballers dealt with Siovanija & Teusland and Poafmersia. The brief history of our international football has not yet given us reason to thoroughly rejoice, but we, of course, hope for the best. Our hopes for a place in the playoffs looked not totally unfounded.

Altought whole group stage will played in Oceana in the conservative north-west region of Baker Park, our team, as it was always customary, try to see as much as only can. Many experts say such a practice distracts players from their main activities, pointing to the example of U18WC-9, when team make a leisure trips between the second and third group stage game and before the playoff match as the reason for the two defeats after quite promising two victories at the start. But players already arrive in the country capital Belle Haven, spent a day here and then move to the Newport to see ocean and relaxing a bit, and only after that go to Oceana get ready for the match. Trips to the famous amusement park in Oceana and excursions to the northern areas of Lake District and to Endborough are also planned for our youngsters.

FA offered those who wish to support the team every support and guidance, and due to it’s recommendations the majority of fans arrive in Endborough and Belle Haven to see more from the delights of the host country, having made country tours before the matches began. After the FA paid for the construction of a huge temporary stand for Trolleborg fans during WCQ85 in ZSeparatists, where team were supposed to play in a zero-capacity stadium, many football fans came up with new ideas. By popular demand, the FA considered the idea of renting an empty piece of land near the Oceana and building a temporary camp for fans there, but in the end this offer was rejected. “Green River”, traditional pre-match march of fans with a music and slogans planned as always, this time from state capitol to the stadium.

Vạn Xuân International Airport
Đại Hòa, Mavinet

Duy Khánh rushes toward Gate A3 for the flight to Endborough, Baker Park. The traffic on the way was terrible, and it doesn't help that MavinAir's check-in queues are as long as the Mẫu River. The terminal is crowded with people moving about, waiting around and shopping in the duty-free shops. If only he can ever have time to check these goods. For some reason, he always seem to be late for a flight, whenever he has one. "Maybe I should start going to the airport a day before", he thinks as the big "Gate A3" overhead sign catches his eye.

As he approaches the gate, he sees his fellow sport journalist at the Dai Hoa Times, Hà Minh Vũ, sitting on one of the benches, anxiously looking around to find something or someone, probably him. Duy Khánh speeds up toward his colleague. Minh Vũ finally spots the late runner and greets him with an annoyed expression: "Where have you been? I thought you wouldn't make it in time. They are about to board."

"Yeah sorry. I missed the sub. I was wrapping up a few administrative things in the office. Boss wanted them done before I leave." Duy Khánh scratches his head trying to explain with a sincere face.

"Sounds like her. Good thing you made it. This is the last flight of today, and it's gonna be a long one. HQ won't be happy if they have to rebook it for you."

Just when Duy Khánh sit down on the seat next to his friend, the boarding announcement is made. The two journalists get up and get in line for boarding. Duy Khánh can't tell if his colleague is as excited about this trip as he is. The destination is Baker Park, in particular Endborough, the capital of the country's Endover state. They are going there on behalf of the Dai Hoa Times to cover the U18 World Cup that is about to happen there. As a junior journalist covering youth competitions, Duy Khánh has not had a lot of traveling experience, and this place he has never traveled to before. He knows Baker Park mostly as a developed country and a formidable force in the sporting world. That's about it. He did read a bit about the country's culture and history before this assignment, obviously because traveling to a place without knowing anything about its people, foods, places of interest or customs is ridiculous. Now, he is about to experience the country first hand.

Duy Khánh and Minh Vũ settle down on their seats in the plane. Of course Duy Khanh has to fight to get the window seat. It is something he has always loved since his first time flying as a child. To look at the scene outside the plane, the buildings, the landscape... of not just his country, but also of whichever place he is going to. The ground crew is working so hard. It takes so many people working to prepare for and execute one flight? Why did I not become a pilot? It must be so fun getting to go to so many places constantly...

"Did you read up on the official roster and schedule for the competition?" Minh Vũ pulls Duy Khánh out of his thought stream.

"Huh? Oh yeah, I did. Lots of new faces this time, but I see quite a few familiar names from last edition too. Ha Tien Linh, Bui Van Khanh, Tran Van Cung..." Duy Khánh looks back at his friend, who already has his laptop opened.

"Yeah. It seems the FA want the team to get further than last time. The average age is older, and the new call-ups are mostly 17, 18 too. How far did we get last time?"
Minh Vũ scrolls through the roster and player details table.

"Uh past group stage, knocked out in Play-off. It was the first time out so the boys were a bit green. They will probably do better this time, but geez, look at the group. It's not gonna be easy." Duy Khánh leans over and look at the screen where the fixtures are shown.

"Yeah would you believe it? Cassadaigua and Starblaydia in the same group? And then another big name, Krytenia. HUElavia, they got bronze last time. Sharktail got second place 5 editions before. And we all know how good Tequilo are among the fresh faces."

"I'm surprised the champions last time aren't there to defend. It was our groupmate Imperial Joseon, wasn't it? What happened to them?" Duy Khánh reads back on the Sporting World Cup files.

"Imperial Joseon, yeah, but not our groupmate. That was the Di Bradini Cup. You keep mixing up the two. And who knows what happened to them. Haven't heard much from them since. It was such a freak run too, even more than our BoF 72's journey."

"Haha yeah. Anyways, it's tough to even get 1 point from this group. Hope the boys are up for it." Duy Khánh returns to his gazing out of the window. The cabin crew starts going around to check the overhead compartments and preparing for the safety briefing. As the plane prepares for taxi, an announcement is made requesting all passengers to turn off their electronic devices. Finishing off his writing, Minh Vũ turns off and closes his laptop. He stretches out a bit and has a long yawn.

"I'm gonna sleep a bit. You should too. It's a long trip."
he says.

"Yeah. I'm hungry. Can't wait to get some of those tasty Baker Park's lamb wienerschnitzel...Shit, that just makes me hungrier." Duy Khánh mumbles that last sentence while pulling the eye mask out of his jacket's pocket. As he covers his eyes, his stomach makes a small rumble, as if to remind him about beef with wheat berries dish he saw the other day on the internet. Baker Park, here we come!

The plane starts rolling its wheels. Soon, it taxis out into the runway and takes off into the night sky.

Some Old Faces in the Dugout

VdarArena Training Centre, Chania

Not much was known about Markos Moustakakos’ managing ability, to the surprise of many who heard about his appointment as U-21 manager. He had taken charge of the squad once and got them their only win of the tournament, but other than that he was just known as the goalkeeper. Not even a great one, either. This would be many of the players’ first impressions of Markos.

”If you guys are expecting me to do some stupid ice breakers or a long introduction, then you’re wrong. I’m Markos, you’re not. We have a lot to do in not much time, so we need to gloss over a few things like names and the like. I’ll learn them over the course of managing you lot, presumably. Now, without further ado, let’s get cracking! I won’t switch up the formation that you guys are used to, but just remember that the first team is more defensive than you youngsters. That is, if you actually want to get a look-in for the first team.”

Not the best first impression, you’d think. You’d be right, as many of the players were left confused as to why they didn’t have much time. Nonetheless, the team were happy enough that they seemed to have a confident and experienced man in charge of the team.

Following this, Moustakakos took the players out on the training pitch to play a 6-a-side match. All of the first team played, and one of the substitute goalkeepers was used to complete the lineups. Amazingly, the match finished 5-5, after about 45 minutes of football were played. Moustakakos used this to identify a few weaknesses in the squad.

”Right, our defenders aren’t doing enough to defend. I know there’s only a few of you, but you have to be doing better. Get into those tackles, push for the ball, et cetera. We can’t just stand there and let them absolutely hammer us over and over again, you know? Anyhow, onto the goalkeepers. You guys definitely need to improve as well. Since I still play, I can be your goalkeeping coach, and I’ll be helping you keep goal because, quite frankly, both of your performances in that mini-match were woeful. As for the rest of you, good job, nice work on breaking down each others defences and scoring goals. Keep at it. I’ll help these two lads get better at being goalkeepers.”

The theories about Markos not being as hot headed as his first team compatriot were right.
Unlike Væñøœrëñbérghüïś, Moustakakos hadn’t just screamed at the defenders to get it right, and he was actually offering help to the goalkeepers. Maybe he’s the future? We’ll never know for sure.

Following the ‘woeful’ performances by the young keepers, Moustakakos took them over to the nets, while the rest of the team were under placed the jurisdiction of assistant manager Mathaios Pardakis, who was going to be retiring following his last season as captain of the Vdaran national team.

Moustakakos decided what keeper he would take shots at first using a system often described as “Eeny, meeny, miny, moe”, before his finger landed on Zaharias Frangoglou.

”Right, you, what’s your name?”

”My name’s Zaharias, gaffer.”

”Right, cool. Zaharias, you get in the nets, and I’ll hit some shots at you. I may not be the best at shooting, but I managed to score twice in this cycle, so don’t think you have an easy task here.”

”Coolio, gaffer!”

Markos spent the next 15 minutes firing shots from the penalty spot at the young keeper, with a large portion of them going in. Markos took this opportunity to give the youngster some advice along the way, which seemed to help immensely.

”You have to look at their eyes, see where they’re aiming, you know.”

”Wait, you can do that?”

”Yes, it helps a lot. Watch me now. I’ll try and be as inconspicuous as possible, but you’ll notice the signs of where I’m aiming as I take it.”

Markos took a few steps back, and ran towards the ball. He aimed it straight at the top left corner, and the towering Frangoglou got to it quickly, parrying the shot away from the net.

”See? It can be as easy as that! I’ll take a few more shots at you before moving onto the other keeper, but you’re definitely improving, Zak... Zahara... ach, forget it. I’m not the best with names, I’ll get it soon.”

With his squad steadily improving, Markos knew that with a little bit of work he could slowly turn these lads into future stars. He had an eye for identifying talent, which is definitely a valuable trait for a youth team manager to have. With all this in mind, Markos was quite confident that he could direct his team towards some points in his first two matches against The Jovannic and San Jose Guayabal. In fact, he was not just confident that he would get some points, he was sure of it.
Come for the weather. Stay for the fitba. Leave for somewhere prettier.

TAPALUPÉ, Tequilo - So much football, so little time… don’t worry, when you don’t have time for the big read (and we don’t have time for the big write) let the GOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL-a!!! Daily take the strain - all your favourite bits, in brief.

GRANDPARENTS FOR GOALPOSTS
Our Nostalgia Column With Retired Footballer Haizinto

What was it really like in the old days? Was football better when men were hairy and balls were made from iron? Was soccer more fun before the offside rule? Was pitxi ever enjoyable on a cold wet Tuesday evening in Calzacon? In this new feature from your GOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL-a!!! Daily, we’ll be exploring the ‘good old days’ with veteran footballer-cum pundit Haizinto, who’s bestselling autobiography, A Cold Wet Tuesday Evening In Senzapa, has been heralded a masterpiece of nostalgic tropes recycled for populist entertainment. We’ll be looking at some of the best and worst times as a roving itinerant footballer, and not to be outdone by Haizinto and his book, we’ll be artistically basing our little featurette around the much admired football-nostalgia poem by Tequilo’s number one football poet and nostalgist-in-chief Bermudéz, cousin to national team striker Roxelio Toran. You probably already remember the poem as one of Bermudéz’ best performance pieces, along with other greats ’Star & Crescent Moon’, ‘Rolling Man’, ‘Football Daddy’ and of course ‘Dog Shit Alley’. But for the young ones out there who are scratching their heads, and just for our own fun, let’s remind ourselves of ‘Grandparents For Goalposts’…

When I was young,
we didn’t have shinpads -
we used tabby cats
or cricket bats.

We didn’t have Nike or Adidas,
the only label I ever had
was my name tag
(in my jumper).

We didn’t have wags or diamond earrings,
Bentley Coupes or yachts in moorings,
we didn’t have offshore accounts,
goal bonuses or image rights,
once I had a kite on a string
but without the kite.

When I was young,
we didn’t have shinpads,
labels or signing on fees,
we had to use grandparents for goalposts
and stray dogs for referees.1

… Join us tomorrow in the Daily when Haizinto gets to grips with our desire for a better past through rose-tinted memories, and settles once and for all how you get stray dogs to referee.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
The Issues That Are Really Getting Up Your Nose Right Now

After the resounding success of the letter-writing series on how, when and why to write letters to the editor, not to mention all the fascinating rumours on what happened to young Tequiloan goalkeeper García de Corcoles who went missing in Appalaxia after the Baptism of Fire and some wonderful letters from foreign readers around the multiverse, we could not publish another edition without your contributions featuring somewhere - and so, in the coming series covering the Under-18 World Cup, we will be delighted to hear your views on the issues of the day, to have your say on the burning debates in the courts of legalese, and to let us know if you’ve seen or heard from García recently. Just address your emails to spambox@gola.teq2 - and we may even publish, providing it’s legible.

To kick us off with a healthy debate on the quality of our writing, Inca Qhispe-Pacca of Huayna-Comitán anticipates with notable lack of enthusiasm: I hear the Daily is hiring Haizinto for some football punditry after he got fired from Deportivo Valiente [satellite TV sports show - Ed.] and I am wondering if this could be anywhere near the truth. Surely not - not only was he the worst player in the history of the game: he’s an even worse pundit. Come on now, GOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL-a!!!, you cannot be serious!

- We are serious, Inca… and you missed an L off of GOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL-a!!! Usually we wouldn’t publish but as you are the only letter in the mail sack today, you struck lucky! Remember folks, it’s fifteen Ls in GOLa.

POSTCARDS FROM THE MULTIVERSE
Cassadaigua

We sent six random citizens out into the world to find out about some of the countries we’ve heard of but never visited before; we gave them airline tickets, a pen and some loose change, and asked them to send us a postcard. Here’s one that arrived today!

Cueto Costello writes from Concord Heights, Cassadaigua: Dear Editor, thank you for my free flights to Cassadaigua sponsored by GOLa Daily which I ‘won’ in the staff raffle at the blotwine distillery where I work as a corker. I write ‘won’ in such a manner to cast doubt on the validity of the draw, since I felt suspicious then and I feel certain now that this was a rigged draw by Señor Colín in HR who never liked me much and wants to get his brother Calderón in the corking shop - so got me out of the way and - given the human rights record of the nation I am visiting with regard treatment of XY chromosomatics - hopes I will never come back. I write this to fulfil my obligation to send a postcard to the Daily on what I find in the country I have been sent to. On the front you will see a representation of a suffragero, who must’ve done a good job at the unicorn racing track because from what I can see, my fellow menkind do alright these days and I have largely been dealt with in a most respectful way. I’m sure it helps having the initials C.C. which seems to give me a bit of a pass and I can even sit on the top deck of the bus. Tell Colín I will be back next week. Yours, C.C.

NEXT TIME
What’s Up In The Next Issue of GOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL-a!!!

Coming soon - Los Pitxileros Juniors kick off their tournament against the scarily successful Dagans, and we here at the Daily desk will fire up the Copametro to see how they got on; meanwhile, Niceto Marcell sends us a postcard from Mavinet, and rumours of García de Corcoles demise are rife but unverified.

Iudicael Breut - From Almanarre To Saida To The World
By Jean-Antoine Granchier

Among the Premier Division academy graduates and young lower-division starters that make up the Oberour Ar Moro roster for the Under 18 World Championship, one name stands out: Iudicael Breut.

And how the name of Iudicael Breut stands out is through his comparitive anonymity. Even Alexander Sauvari, who began the 1755-1756 season as a back-up sweeper for Massalia City, became more prominent as he started more and more games. Sauvari's brace of goals against Cyrene Bay in the semi-final match of the Minister's Cup were his ninth and tenth goal of the season in his 25th start.

Meanwhile, Iudicael Breut barely saw any time and started only a handful of games. And yet Breut has become a much admired young player who began to attract interest from major clubs across Oberour Ar Moro.

Iudicael Breut was born in Almanarre, on Enez Vezevenn in the Cyrene Bay. Almanarre is a small tourist destination known for their amusement park, and the hand-carved carousel that has been riden by children for over a century. Breut was born to a single mother, and played in the island's small youth leagues. And somehow his performance as a child was such that Saida Holly saw fit to bring Iudicael on board to their academy.

Iudicael was then re-discovered in Saida Holly's unfancied academy scheme by first year manager Uriou Amelotte, who promoted Breut to the 23-man roster. Breut started as a third choice Left Midfielder behind two newly signed Left Midfielders: Geon Cassel from Naucratis and Privel Taneeur from Vilane River. Breut seemed ensconced as the twenty-third player on a twenty-three player roster, but as time went on he began to see some minutes on the pitch.

And in these small minutes Breut started to impress. He demonstrated attacking characteristics, while getting up the field and serving up dangerous crosses. It took little time to demonstrate that he was not afraid to create his own solutions on the pitch.

This can be a downside. Breut is clearly talented, but he is still a 18 year old who is not the primary attacker or offensive developer. At his best Breut would fire passes across the pitch, while using his vision to bring the ball up on his own. At his worst Breut would selfishly take the ball and go it alone. Sometimes this worked out, more often it caused issues for Saida Holly.

Iudicael Breut is a young man with an extremely limited amount of playtime, at a very limited level. He has a lot of talent, talent that is making Premier Division teams salivate. But can he harness it? His raw ability has not only found him on the roster of the Under-18 roster, but as a starter. A good accounting for himself will fully determine what his home will be in the next season.

The Hate Starts Young
By Rami Niblick in Endborough, Baker Park

THE much-heralded Project 87, the KFA's (over)ambitious plan to bring the World Cup trophy to Krytenia in the next two cycles, reaches a natural progression here in Baker Park as the nation makes its debut at the Under-18 World Cup. The Wyverns, as the team have been "imaginatively" named, are made up of what scouting teams across the country consider the best teenage talent, with the intent of giving them valuable experience of international football.

Along with the resurrected Under-21 team, the Krytenian schoolboys arrived in Baker Park to little fanfare, not expecting much interest from back home.

That was, of course, before the draw.

Krytenia will play in Group E, alongside both veterans of the game in Cassadaigua and HUElavia and promising newcomers in Mavinet and Tequilo. These, though, were not the names that got the boys in sky blue and white - and the fans - anticipating the competition with the hunger they do. That particular accolade falls to the Wyverns' third opponents; a team that immediately gets the hairs standing on the back of the collective necks of Krytenians everywhere. Yes, fate has said that the most hotly contested international fixture in the multiverse will be contested between players not even old enough to grow more than peach fuzz on their chins, as the collective youngsters of Krytenia and Starblaydia meet in New Richmond. Never mind the 11,000 capacity of Lytle Five Points Road; the game would have sold out Baker Park's National Stadium. Probably twice over.

The biggest challenge for the Wyverns may be to avoid looking ahead to that fixture too soon. Sharktail are no slouches, and will be Krytenia's first ever opponents at this level. Let's hope for a winning start. Onward!
