Se Vende Skooma, noble inventors of the great sport of Test Baseball, will sign up for the WBC under protest, as nine innings really isn't enough to determine the better team.

WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 49

OFFICIAL NEWMANISTAN HOSTING BID

Greetings, World Baseball Classic Council members. Our upcoming Classic needs a host, and Newmanistan would love the chance to host this glorious tournament once again. It would be the first time that we hosted the competition since WBC 46 and first solo hosting effort since WBC 44.

Where is the pretty host bid logo?

I’ve never been one to create logos! If someone wants to make one, I can upload it. Let’s move on to the important stuff now.

I) Scorination
The current version of xkoranate, 0.3.3, with the Saintland NSFS formula.

With all due respect to the Free Republics and the amount of time that it has taken him to develop Baseinator, I am not a fan of that scorinator due to it rarely ever having a team score more then four runs in an inning, and it predominately having one or two run innings. Take a look at the MD1-3 Results of IBS 11. In 36 total games, there was only one half inning where a team scored more then four runs. Four itself was uncommon, and even three not all that common. It’s mostly just a bunch of ones and twos, when runs are scored. I do not believe this provides a good baseball simulation.

II) RP Bonus
Daily RP bonus potential will be generous, and cumulative until the end of the group stage. RP bonus will be cut in half prior to the beginning of the playoffs. A roster bonus will also be provided, and whatever is earned with it will not be amount subject to the cutting in half of RP bonus. I most definitely prefer quality over quantity. Quality, in my mind, represents using all information that is available to you. For example, if providing a game recap as a RP, don’t say “the Newbiestan closer came in for the 9th and blew the lead” if Newbiestan provided a roster and named who their closer is on that roster.

III) Format
The number of groups and teams per group will be sensible based on the number of signups, such as:
36: 6 groups of 6
40: 8 groups of 5
42: 6 groups of 7
48: 8 groups of 6

48 is a nice workable number to shoot for, but I’ll make 54, 56, 60, or 64 work as well.

Each team will play their group mates three times at home, and three times on the road, as has been customary in recent Classics. Three matchdays will be scorinated per day, as we have become used too.

Playoffs:
16-teams will make the playoffs, though if signups are 48 or higher, there will likely be more playoff teams. How we arrive at the 16 teams will depend on the number of groups. If there are 6 groups, then I will take the top 2 teams per group automatically; and then the best four teams otherwise after that. If there are five groups, the same idea applies, but there would be six "wild cards".

Group winners will be seeded 1-6 regardless of their actual record (Reason is to give incentive to win the group even if a team is safely in second). Seeds 7-16 will be based on their actual records. There will be NO re-seeding as the tournament progresses. Every series, except for the championship series, will be a best-of-five. The championship series will be a best-of-seven.

Unlike previous competitions that I have hosted, I will prevent group stage rematches from happening in the first round, as this seems to have become a trend.

IV) Tiebreakers
1) H2H Record
2) Overall Run Differential
3) Overall Run Differential/9 (essentially this eliminates runs scored or given up in extra innings)
4) Tiebreaker game
I do not use H2H run differential as a tiebreaker on this logic:
Team A and B split the series 1-1. Team A won the first game at home, 5-4, and never hit in the bottom of the ninth. Team B won the second game, 5-3, at home, thanks to a three run HR in the bottom of the ninth. On this, Team B wins this tiebreaker. But is it fair, since B had a 9th inning in their win when A did not in their win? In my opinion, it is not, so I do not use this tiebreaker. While the same thing can happen with Overall Run Differential, I feel that is different as the teams were not against each other, head to head.

Note: If a tie between A, B, C, and D must be broken; and A wins the tiebreaker at stage 3 and B, C, D are still tied, then the new tie between B, C, D is broken by reverting back to stage 1, H2H record between the three of them.

V) Experience

View my signature for the tournaments that I have hosted, I’ve done this often, and in more then just baseball, including the World Cup and three Cups of Harmony.

This will NOT conflict with NSSCRA 9, in which I also host. That ends on July 8.

Please feel free to ask questions!

Overall, a solid bid from a very qualified host!

This seems to imply that RPs that are not solely focused on the games played will be penalized (e.g. character-based RPs or non-baseball storylines), was this the intention?

For what it's worth, the first matchday of IBS 11 had twelve 3-run innings (3.7%) and seven 4-run innings (2.16%), which actually appears to be slightly greater than the proportion of 3- and 4-run innings in real life. However, I have no issues with using xkoranate to host.

Not at all, that was just an example for when a chosen RP is a game report.

Your numbers are twice as big as they should be, because there are two half innings, per inning. In all, there were 648 half innings (12/648= 1.85%, which is lower then the average). Only one inning of greater then four, is 0.1%, down from the approximate 1% if all the scenarios on that site of five runs or more were added together.

All of the MLB games evaluated would also be affected by "style mods" and "park factors".
