Star Players signed:

This Club managed to sign two Star Players ahead of the first season. The Club managed to sign Goalkeeper Trevor Carson. Trevor is a bench keeper for the national squad whom has been a part of the national squad since its inception in the form of the Port Ember Youth Development Program. Although not the best keeper on the national squad, the years of development and experience on an international level will surely benefit this club in the long run still. The next star signing is considered to be one of the best possible signings (besides perhaps striker Danny Nicovic) – Midfielder William Carvello. This player is not only one of the greatest attacking midfielders alive today; he is also the captain of the current national team, whom has been part of the national squad since its inception. This player is capable to dominate the midfield possession, organize defense, set up constant scoring opportunities and launch devastating counter attacks at a moment’s notice.

A Word

This club seems to have a strategy to place some emphasis on establishing a team which focuses on developing a strong midfield, evident with the signing of Star Midfielder (and National Captain) William Carvello. The team managed to sign Dragonstone Casino & Resort Ltd as their head sponsor, which is a great sign that there is potential in this squad’s ability to rise to the top. For this team, I personally hope that they manage to build a very strong and developed midfield which places some focus on counter attacking in order to grow the potential talent pool for the national squad in the long run.

Hello, this is crew of TTV from Zwangzug
Well, we have to admit that we were right. We really prefer no to be right in this case, but it just so happened.

On the field was, in fact, an experimental lineup of our team, and half of the players usually play time to time. But all the more unpleasant is the shown quality of the game and the result: this means that there is simply no one to replace our best players without losing quality of game. We can’t, nevertheless, to say, that our lads lost outright. There were several moments in the first half when the scales could be tipped in our favor. Troll make a really good shot in his usual style, but the goalkeeper of the opponents played perfectly

Image

Karsten Severin goes one on one with a keeper, but, frankly said, he did not have enough speed and freshness. As a result the defenders pushed him aside and the shot that completed the attack was absolutely harmless

Image

Our team also created a few more moments for a goalscoring, but could not put at least one goal. And the opponents successfully countered everything that our players make, and they themselves repeatedly carried out attacks. In the second half they, in fact, control the game. So it should not surprise anyone that in the end their efforts were crowned with a winning goal. Troger suddenly miscalculated his position when someone cross ball into the box, and no one had time to make anything, so the forward of the opponents successfully used possibility provided for him by our defender.

Image

And, sadly, even after a goal conceded, our guys don’t offer anything special, and SRS successfully brought the game to victory, going home quite satisfied. And our football players were left to wait for the results of other matches, and much after midnight it’s turned out that the national team had nevertheless reached the next round.

Although our team went to CoH playoff for the first time in history, it did so exclusively by the grace of fate. If our players conceded another goal or score one less in the game with Twicetagria, we would be 33th in the final table and go home. But fate gave us another chance to show in this cycle what we are capable of. We all hope that this time the team will nevertheless demonstrate the proper moral qualities.

Our rival was Tequilo. The apparent favorite of the Trolleborg fans during the Baptism of Fire, along with Alba and Cymru, and we all remember how depressed we are been from the injustice that this vibrant team left the tournament so early. Generally speaking, Tequilo reminds us of a year ago, but not subject to these stupid mood swings, constantly playing at the same level.

Trolleborg national team will play in following lineup:

Familiarity Breeds Contempt Thirst For Vengeance
By Rami Niblick in Ulyanof, Kelssek

MARGARET, it seems, has a sense of humour. Fresh from their defeat at the hands of Chromatika, the Dragons were handed the sixth seed spot, which meant a game against one of the best third-placed teams. Which, of course, just happened to be none other than Chromatika.

To be fair to the Chromatiks, they earned their place with a fine rearguard display. The black wall in defence fended everything Messrs. Smith, Mendonca, and Kennedy could throw at them. Yes, their goal may have been an opportunistic chance from a set-piece, but the bottom line is that they got the ball in the net and we didn't. Clearly, this needs to change.

There will be those who say we're fated to win, who remember the halcyon days of AOCAF Cup LII when Alexander Sampson and Armando Ortega put Chromatika to the sword in that historic five-one victory. What people tend to forget, though, is that in the four years following that triumph, the two sides met three times, with Cromatika winning all three. Indeed, the last of those, in AOCAF Cup LIII, saw Krytenia's title reign come to an end in the last eight.

The Chrom giveth, and the Chrom taketh away.

One thing is for certain though. Neither Jerome Jaffacake-Phillips nor Paul Davis take defeat lightly. As I write this, the squad will be doubling down on training, preparing themselves for a second tilt at a familiar opponent.

To those in Chromatika, I say simply this. We are Krytenia. We are relentless. We shall not surrender lightly, nor go gently into the night. We will offer and give no quarter. We have been given a second chance to settle a score, and even though it may take us two attempts, we will send you home. Onward!

How Have La Nacional Players Fared in the Cup of Harmony?

BRETON, KELSSEK (VAP) — Having qualified for the second round of the 77th Cup of Harmony with one match in hand and losing to Geektopia in a thrilling game to close off their involvement in the Zwangzug-based Group 12, the Valladar national football team have settled in Breton for the start of the knockout rounds of the competition. As a result of their wins over Barunia and West Pocono, the draw against Newmanistan and the aforementioned defeat, the Valladars ended the group stage as the 18th best qualifier and will have to play for their ticket to the last 16 of the Cup of Harmony against 15th-ranked Mercedini, who ended up as Group 1 runners-up with 8 points after winning twice and tying twice more.

With the group stage already in the past, it is time to take a look at how the Valladar team have done throughout the tournament, the highs and lows, the highlights and the things that could be improved in order for La Nacional to become a real candidate to win this Cup of Harmony edition. Therefore, the Sports chapter of The Valladar Herald has evaluated the squad of 23 NTers and their performance so far, with a rating from 1 to 10. The offense, as usual, has emerged with the best rating, with the defense still quite indebted and with room for improvement. So here we go with the analysis of the performance of La Nacional in the 77th Cup of Harmony:

Goalkeepers: Nacional player Paulo Gaviria has been the goalkeeper for all four matches played by La Nacional in this Cup of Harmony, and that is not expected to change in the forseeable future unless something unusual happens. With the Albo side, Gaviria has long proved to be a leader and an impervious last barrier to protect his team and help them get positive results, which is something he has managed to replicate with the sky blue-white-green tricolour to some extent. His best performances in the competition were recorded against Barunia and West Pocono, making some big saves in the match against the former, and recording the team's only clean sheet so far against the latter. However, his efforts have been hampered by the lack of sync in defense, which has unfortunately given him some extra work to do. Therefore, Mercedini should be prepared to face a goalkeeper determined to pick another clean sheet, much-needed by the Valladars at this stage, and ready to save/catch/deflect as many shots as possible. Pierre Dussan and Alan Cross are both still waiting quietly for their chance. Rating: 8/10

Defenders: Paulo Oliveira's usual line of 3 defenders has not seen much variation in this Cup of Harmony edition; the Pedretti-Delgado-Rueda trio has started in the four matches played by Valladares so far. While this is a consolidated line filled with experienced players both in the starting lineup and the bench, the team's defensive performance has been far from consistent: 10 goals in four matches do not speak very well about the Valladar back, with Newmanistan and Geektopia contributing 90% of that amount in just two games. There are positive aspects to highlight, though, such as the performances of Metropolis Alligators centre-back Thiago Matheus, who has done a decent job when coming up from the bench to reinforce the backline, especially as seen against Barunia, and the improvement in aerial play from previous performances in World Cup qualification. The mission against Mercedini, aside from trying to show a more cohesive and solid performance, should be not leaving goalkeeper Gaviria to his fate when the rival tries to pull a counterattack, with most of the goals conceded by La Nacional in this tournament being scored through this method. Rating: 7.5/10

Midfielders: The midfield overall performance can be divided in two: the offensive performance, in charge of the wingers, has been good...on the other hand, the defensive one has not been that good. The winger duo of Ronald Mickel on the right and Arley Barrios on the left have fulfilled their mission of being the main catalyzers of Valladar attacks, with substitutes Daniel Lachlant and Mateo Padilla also being up to the task when having the chance to play, especially the former, who scored an important goal against West Pocono to leave Valladares all but qualified for the round of 32. La Nacional missed Mickel greatly in their defeat to Geektopia, with the Banijan-based player having to recover from a minor injury sustained in the match against West Pocono, however, NT doctor Jacques Pelletier confirmed he would be ready to return for the upcoming match. Meanwhile, while Leonardo Rojas and Christian O'Brien have both proven to be reliable at containing most rival attacks through the center of the field and even trying their hand at contributing with the team's offensive effort, they have also lacked co-ordination at some moments, both when having to retreat to support the defense as well as with each other. Gaëtan Malicki's extreme confusion in the match against Barunia caused him to stay in the bench for the remainder of the group stage, while Bryan Castillo's performance against West Pocono was just fine. With Mickel returning to the starting lineup against Mercedini, the offensive midfield should be expected to keep up with the good job, although fans will surely want to see more of Mateo Padilla, while the defensive midfield will have to improve their co-ordination and their defensive transitions. Rating: 8/10

Forwards: The team's most outstanding players, by far, are in this line. Valladares' offensive effort has been led by three gunmen in the form of Wilfried Baume, Alexandre, and Aymeric Fortin, who have contributed with 7 out of the team's 12 goals in the group stage. And the bench also contributes to that list, with Thibault Benezet and Aiden Pearson adding another couple of goals to that list. Valladar strikers are usually known to be skillful, speedy and accurate in front of the goal, but this time, they have also proved to be resourceful, applying crosses, headers and aerial play as a new strategy to surprise rival defenses, who would usually expect from a Valladar side things such as passing, assists and shots at ground level, with both Baume and Barrios also taking credit for this new tactic. However, Fortin does not seem to be fully imbued with this brand-new "spirit of collaboration", as his individualistic attitude has kept surfacing at some point in matches, depriving Valladares of important chances to have better results. It happened in the WCQ and it's still going on in this CoH. Mercedini should still expect an endless offensive blitz from La Nacional, as we still have lots of sharp weapons in both the starting 11 and the bench, though. Rating: 9/10

With the aforementioned return of Ronald Mickel to the starting 11, Valladares will be looking to keep advancing in the competition against Mercedini in the Round of 32 match to be played at Kingswharf in Breton, Kelssek. The winners will not be able to relax just yet, since a meeting with either Busoga Islands or Poafmersia will be awaiting for them in the Round of 16. The Kelssek half of the final bracket will also feature in this round interesting matches such as Krytenia vs. Chromatika, the up-and-coming Vdara challenging the Jeruselem Princesses, and the Independent Athletes from Quebec locking horns with Squornshelous.

Starting XI vs. Mercedini: Gaviria - Pedretti, Delgado, Rueda - Rojas, O'Brien, Mickel, Barrios - Baume, Alexandre, Fortin
Bench: Dussan, Marrugo, Matheus, Waldo, Castillo, Malicki, Lachlant, Padilla, Núñez, Pearson, Benezet, Cross

Shinonome Kyoai - International
News From The Empire

Advancement, The Story Is Turbulent

Kandorith has reached the round of 32, though the greatest question remains if Hayabusa can make the expectations come true. With his career at stake and the nation's pride at stake there seems to be no end for the stressful campaign the team is playing. The expectation of the fans is reaching the quarter finals at least, but it seems Hayabusa can not live up to the hype as the longest serving manager for the Kandorese team ever. Problems in the defense, problems in performing against teams they should have kept at bay. The fans are relentless and are lashing out at how Hayabusa is managing the great Lotus Warriors.
Image
Hayabusa as Kandorith escapes defeat

"I thinks the fans are rightfully lashing out." Hayabusa commented on the current situation. "The Kandorese team has high expectations since the previous Cup of Harmony and we are not living up to it. I am to blame for this. I think for me the point is I have let my pride get to me and we should get back to where we are. The wake up call came when we lost against Vdara, we should have avoided this and I understand the absolute disappointment when it came to this match. We should have done better, we should have showed more prowess. In all seriousness we dropped point where we should have been the victor. Where I believe in the youth, I forgot we should also rely on the experience the team has had during the World Cup Qualifiers. The previous matches have shown the fact that experience goes above having the youngest and fastest players on the field, for now it is back to having the most well known players on the field and performing as we have performed during the qualification campaign.

"I still want to apologize for the disappointing results we have achieved. It is crucial for the sports in our nation to reach the highest possible outcome we can get. However, with making sure the team is a younger team ready for the future, this is a very hard task. The upcoming match will be a very different match for us. We have to make sure we are at our best all the time from now on. We got lucky, that is all I can say right now. Rielle is our next opponent and we should win this with a certain ease. Yes, they are an upcoming team with amazing results; but I believe we have the endurance and experience to take them on and control the game against them. Bouncing back in the last game has shown how resilient we are. The Kandorese team is a force to be reckoned with and with our current plan I believe we can reach the expectations we have set. I am reluctant to let the fans down and we will fight until the very bitter end."

The next opponent Kandorith has to face is Riena, a side they have never faced before. However, the analysts are certain Kandorith should gain a victory here; although they are cautious. One single slip-up in their defense could mean disaster. The scenario the team wants to avoid is the game against Vdara. The Lotus Warriors dropped their defense in this game in favour of attacking play and completely got sweeped off the field. For Hayabusa the test remains; to perform at least as well as they did during the previous Cup of Harmony. Another disaster like the Vdara game could mean the end of the current national team and Hayabusa's national career.

Kandorith has a long standing history in the Cup of Harmony, but has never achieved anything like the last tournament. The team reached the quarter-finals in an amazing unpredictable fashion and even made it to the semi-finals only to be completely demolished with a 1 - 5 defeat. For the fans it is another feat to achieve during this campaign and certainly they will not settle for anything less. The defeat against Vdara was a huge blow for the fans and they have lashed out on social media towards the entire football association. Hayabusa has tried again to tell the fans he is making sure the team is ready for any challenge facing them right now, but skepticism remains. The next game will not only only be a test of their prowess, but also a test of the endurance of the Kandorese fans towards the current management team. Hayabusa however still remains a popular figure among fans; though his popularity is fading and annoyance is making it's way into the mind of fans.

“How’re you preparing for the next match?”

Ibai Kiriano looked up from his tablet, index finger hovering above the screen. “Old man didn’t tell you already?” he asked gruffly.

Researcher Landerra Lazaga shook her head. “No. I was at the meeting obviously, but you know I like to follow up on things.”

Kiriano grunted. “OK.” He slid his device around the table of the hotel workspace. “Well. Right now I’m reviewing notes on players, both theirs and ours. See?” On the screen was a picture of Ethane’s Josh Montoya, and next to it boxes containing playing history and various stats. Kiriano scrolled down and the stats continued, moving on to aggregated graphs, heatmaps, and paragraphs of written analysis. The entry for Declan Smith was next, and presumably encompassed the whole opposition squad.

“These are the printouts you hand the players to read.” Lazaga had seen more than two dozen of these by now, and over time the players had warmed to manager Vaudrail’s strict expectations that they carefully and individually study themselves and the opposition. Whether they were getting more out of the studying or the discipline, and how much of an effect that had on their playing, would be an interesting research project for someone else.

“That’s right. I need to finish reviewing this so the boss can green light it today, then the boys can have it tomorrow. They general team overviews are done already, they’ve got that.”

“Yes, I read it last night. You’re expecting Ethane to be very defensive.”

“They are defensive. So far we’ve played attacking teams, and we’re worried that it could take some getting used to. In that window of time of getting into the game – ten, fifteen minutes – we could be very vulnerable, and if Ethane score then they’ll shut us out of the match. That’s game over.”

Lazaga looked back down at the tablet, at the face of Declan Smith. “Are you worried about him?” she asked, pointing.

Kiriano grimaced. “He’s good, damn good. One slip in our concentration is all he needs, and if I had to guess he’ll probably be up there with Burgess, who’s also a big threat.” Kiriano paused. “Look. Here’s a puzzle for you. The only reason we’ve gotten this far is because our defence is good. We force teams to look for the goal, open themselves up, and that’s when we hit them. We’re not thrashing anyone here, we take what we can – and sometimes we just can’t, like against Huayramarca or TJUN-ia or Villablanca. Ethane’s a strong, well-rounded team, with defensive tradition and absolutely killer forwards. Now we’re the weaker side playing against someone that wants us to open up. What do we do?”

The gears turned in Lazaga’s head. “Uh, you play for the draw, I guess. But you… penalties. You’re preparing penalties.”

Kiriano broke into a smile and snapped his hand into a finger gun. “Penalties. And look.” He flicked through the screen, swiping through files and apps before landing on a slideshow. Each slide was a simple drawing of a goal, littered with coloured dots. Above the crossbar, names - this one said ‘Declan Smith’. “This,” said Kiriano proudly, “is every penalty kick Declan Smith has ever taken.” He waved his finger around. “The dots are where they were shot at, and the colours show whether they were scored, missed or saved. The groupings show us where he’s most likely to shoot, so Anzizar can prepare. We’ve made these for every player on both squads, and they’re especially useful when there’s lots of data – like forwards.”

“But surely you’re not going to bet on going all the way to penalties? Not from the start, at least?”

“No, of course not. But if it’s minute 70 and we’re drawing, with Ethane increasing the pressure? Yeah, we’ll go for it.”

Lazaga nodded, and jotted something down in her notebook. Kiriano, pleased with his presentation, peered over the desk. “That thesis going well?”

“Heh, it’s… it’s coming along. Hard to say before the fieldwork’s done.”

“Right. And your fieldwork’s on until… when, again?”

“I… need to check up on that. It was supposed to be until this cup, but if I could get an extension for the Copa Rushmori I think that would be a really good opportunity as well.” She was threading a fine needle there, lest her grant not be renewed. Her advisors were another story. “I’ve talked it over with Mr. Vaudrail, of course,” she added quickly.

Kiriano smiled. “Well, we’re glad to have you whenever.” He grabbed a pen and raised it in mock toast. “To our talisman.”

Red Wolves Through After Struggling To a Draw

Timuria 3–3 South Newlandia
Vatan Ercetin (46). Ismail Burhan (49), Bayram Tansu (86);Simon McCabe (42), Dhruv Roy (71), Michael Glossman (78)

by Tufan Nursultan

The Red Wolves came into this match knowing that their qualification was a formality, but that seedings would be impacted by the result they got against surprise package South Newlandia, who came into the match surprising everyone as they sat at the top of the group after a series of strong performances that put the rest of the team's in the tournament on notice. The sides would go into the break with South Newlandia up 1-0, but an entertaining and energetic second half would see the sides share the points.

The early match began with the Red Wolves very much on the front foot, with most of the attacking chances falling their way in the early stages. The first serious chance fell to Ismail Burhan, who got the ball from Caner Turan and got his contact slightly wrong sending the ball just wide of the post. The South Newlandians would get a chance of their own from a free kick conceded by Ertan Renda after a collision. Corban Green's free kick would be caught gratefully by Iskender Nur.

Vatan Ercetin would get a chance among a flurry for the Red Wolves, his well struck effort clawed out by Mikhail Trischuk. Ertan Renda would then get a chance from a set piece which was wickedly struck before it was just tipped wide by Trischuk who had put on a strong performance to that point. South Newlandia would get the lead in the 42nd minute, with a Simon McCabe header the left Iskender unable to save it from seemingly nowhere. The Red Wolves would go into the half trailing looking as if they were going to suffer a famous defeat.

The second half began with a bang, with Vatan Ercetin equalising for the Red Wolves, a one-two with Volkan Ayhan saw him in enough space to pick his spot and beat Trischuk for the first time at the tournament, no small feat. While South Newlandia were recovering from the sucker punch, the Red Wolves managed to take the lead as their high powered offence began to kick into gear, this time Reza Karaduman delivered a sublime long range pass that allowed Ismail to slot home and give the Red Wolves their first lead of the day. Volkan Ayhan had a chance to put the match almost beyond doubt, but his volley from a narrow angle was well saved by Trischuk. South Newlandia would expose Timuria's weakness from defending set pieces and Dhruv Roy would get his head on a Corban Green corner and send the ball past Iskender.

With the sides level going into the final 15 minutes, the next goal felt like it would be decisive and it fell to Michael Glossman who latched onto Abdurahman Bishop's pass that allowed him to chip Iskender. With the match looking lost Bekir threw on two difference makers and they connected, with Yerkebulan Suyumbayev's incisive pass finding Bayram Tansu who applied a clinical finish to bring the Red Wolves level, which is how the match would end, at 3-3.

The result means South Newlandia advance as well deserved group winners, the Red Wolves will go into the Round of 32 seeded 17th as they finish second with 7 points and they will be joined by Savojarna who finished a strong third tied on points at 7 with the Red Wolves.

What They Said After The Match:

Bekir Altingunes: "I wish we hadn't left it so late and maybe it didn't matter in the end, but getting a point here matters, it means that we've at least managed to get something out of this that'll give us something to build on as we progress. It didn't need to be this hard, honestly I think this result tells us that we still have a ways to go before we can really look to get to the next level and that may not be easy to hear for some people, but that's where we are. As for right now we have a tough Round of 32 matchup where we'll be facing a side coming in on good form, another surprise package who are looking to ruin our day. So we'll take our time to prepare for this very different challenge we're expecting from Northwest Kalactin."

Player Ratings:

Iskender Nur 5/10 - He will be very unhappy to have conceded three goals and he looked shaky at times.

Ozbek Sarikaya 6/10 - A bad day for the defence, but no single player had an especially bad day, so all of them get this analysis.

Kemal Colak 6/10 - A bad day for the defence, but no single player had an especially bad day, so all of them get this analysis.

Berker Balkan 6/10 - A bad day for the defence, but no single player had an especially bad day, so all of them get this analysis.

Gokdeniz Dag 6/10 - A bad day for the defence, but no single player had an especially bad day, so all of them get this analysis.

Ertan Renda 6/10 - His free kick was excellent as was his general set piece play, but he was a minor factor in open play.

Reza Karaduman 7/10 - Got a beautiful assist that will go down as one of his finest moments.

Caner Turan 7/10 - Had one of the days where he looked consistently dangerous on and off the ball.

Vatan Ercetin 8/10 - A stellar performance for a player who's had a tough time at this tournament.

Volkan Ayhan 6/10 - Had one decent chance and caused a ruckus, but he wasn't quite at his very best.

Ismail Burhan 7/10 - He got a goal and generally looked good, but was rather spent as the match went on and needed to be replaced.

Substitutes:

Bayram Tansu 7/10 - The live-wire was thrown on as a gamble and came up big for Bekir who has more than shown he is an adept at picking just the right changes as matches progress.

Yerkebulan Suyumbayev 7/10 - He was thrown on to try to make a difference as he so often does and he nailed it getting the assist to Bayram's goal.

Person of the Match: Vatan Ercetin - In a match that was, perhaps unexpectedly a shootout between the two side, the attacking midfield was at the centre of almost everything and made himself look fantastic.

A look ahead to the Round of 32: The Red Wolves secured progression as the second place side in the group, roughly were a lot would have placed them with, though a lot would have thought Savojarna would be the top side, as opposed to South Newlandia, the impressive surprise package who will go far if they keep up their performances in the group stage. The Red Wolves may be a little disappointed to only be qualifying in second place given their early momentum in the group and slightly unhappy with being seeded 17th, though they make a strong 17th seed in the 32 team elimination bracket.

Their opponent will be another surprise package after their run in with their group's surprise package, Northwest Kalactin who also finished in second in their group, also with 7 points and curiously also with nine goals of their own. They've had the benefit of a bye before going into the Round of 32, which will likely factor into the Red Wolves facing a fresher side than they might otherwise have done so. The Northwest Kalactin squad line up in an aggressive 4-3-3 which will mean the Red Wolves will at last be facing a side that is similarly offensively minded to themselves, though they seem to turn it up to eleven with virtually no regard for the defensive duties in order to fuel an aggressive play style that has seen them score nine goals in the group stage as the Red Wovles did (and perhaps rather perversely a better defensive record.)

A player to watch will be midfielder turned striker Will Sanders, at 28 he's entering the peak of his career and his experience in midfield means he will be as adept at creating chances for his fellow attackers as he is at putting the ball in the net. The other player in the attack that the Red Wolves must absolutely not overlook is Luke Dillan who despite being advanced in years can still be a thorn in the side of opposing teams. At the other end of the pitch Hue Grebv stands out as the obvious problem in the defence, with his sheer ability and talent meaning that Vatan Ercetin and the other attackers will need to be at their very best.

All in all, this is shaping up to be an excellent match up in the Round of 32, with the winner set to face either Tequilo, the first seeded side or Trolleborg the 32nd seeded side.

Vdara's Round of 32 Hopes: A Preview

After the draw, and before the Round of 32 happened, many took to Twitter to voice their opinions.

The official Vdaran FA account seemed quite happy to have qualified:
Image

However, the fans didn't feel the same way after the draw result were revealed, as Vdara were drawn against Jeruselem.

As you can see, many Vdarans are not confident about the upcoming Round of 32. They're the definite underdogs rank-wise, but some suspect that they'll be able to pull off a shock victory against The Princesses. We won't know that until later, though, so make sure to watch Vdara vs Jeruselem live on Vai 1 and Vai Sports, to see if Oi Magoi can progress past the Round of 32!

GENERAL ELECTION - Coverage, Part VI

2:05am

David Hughes: It's just gone two in the morning, and with 180 results in, we've adjusted our forecast. Here it is:

Image

We are now predicting with some confidence that the Reform Party will win the election and gain an overall majority, which we currently estimate to be seventeen seats. Professor Jones?

Prof. Kurt Jones: Another move in the prediction, which just goes to show the difficulty of predicting results in an election with so many variables in play. The Conservatives seem to be piling up their votes in safe seats, but not really making a dent where they're challenging; the Socialists, meanwhile, are making hay in Democrat seats where they sat second. It's a fascinating election so far, and don't be surprised if there are further revisions. And yes, we're predicting the Communists to win Adanac North - a result due any moment, I believe.

David Hughes: Indeed - let's throw over to the count now.

I, Louis Jean Saint-Croix, being the Presiding Officer for the election of a Member of the Witting for the division of Adanac North, can confirm that the election has been completed in a fair and legal manner, and that the number of valid votes cast for each canditate are as follows:

Clegg, Anthony Wilson, known as Lord Almighty Cleggory, One True Cleggory Party: thirteen. pantomime boos
Dawson, Harriet, Conservative: twenty-one thousand, five hundred and fifty-two.
Ferrer, James William, Krytenian Democratic Party: fifteen thousand, seven hundred, and forty-three.
Hart, Simon Geoffrey, Reform Party: thirty-eight thousand, four hundred and nine.
Kaladze, Ivan Yulianovich, Communist Party of Krytenia, thirty-nine thousand, eight hundred and seventy-six. some cheers
Perry, Rebecca Celia, The Socialists: thirty-nine thousand, eight hundred and sixty-four. mix of cheers and disbelief
Simmonsen, Alana Patricia, The Greens: nine thousand, nine hundred and twenty-five.

There were four hundred and nine spoiled ballot papers.

I hereby declare that the above mentioned Ivan Yulianovich Kaladze has been returned as Member of the Witting for this division.

Image

David Hughes: Ivan Kaladze becoming the first Communist to be elected to the Witting in over three decades. What's that going to do to the make-up of the Witting?

Louise Candara: Probably not that much. It's a small blow to the Socialists - it's one less seat for them - but if the Reform Party get a working majority, Mr Kaladze's not going to have as much skin in the game as he'd like.

Image

David Hughes: And that's an interesting result coming in from Charnham - the Greens had been targeting this seat, and they've taken it quite comfortably, with a majority of over ten thousand, annihilating the Democrat incumbent.

Stephen Scobie: Not as surprising as you might think. Paul Verrin, the new MW, is a senior figure in the Greens, and he's been campaigning like mad. The Socialist candidate here endorsed him for fear of splitting the left vote.

David Hughes: And we're now joined by Reform Deputy Leader, Daniel Walsh, from his count in Bradwell. Mr Walsh, you must be happy with the night so far?

Daniel Walsh: Absolutely. Of course, we've had only around a third of the results in so far, so we aren't cracking the champagne just yet, and it's by no means guaranteed we have a majority. But the signs so far are positive.

David Hughes: Are you worried about the rise in the Socialist vote?

Daniel Walsh: Not at all. They were brave enough to bring forward some radical ideas, and I think this election shows the Krytenian people are ready for a change; they're just not quite ready for that kind of change. I'll happily congratulate Ms. Dechamps on her results so far, though, they've fought cleanly and we can work together on Senate reform.

David Hughes: Any words for those who stayed loyal to the Democrats rather than join your faction?

Daniel Walsh: It's sad that they couldn't see the way forward that we were proposing, and nobody likes to see big names like Marcus Corrello disappear from the Witting, but it's clear that the party as it was couldn't carry on. I'm sorry to say, I think the days of the orange rosette are pretty much done, and though it's a shame for all the blameless party workers, sometimes bringing something to an end is for the best.

David Hughes: I'm guessing you're confident of your own seat?

Daniel Walsh: Looks like they're about 80% done here, and it does look pretty good at the moment, but you and I both know that it's not over until the last vote is counted. I'm guardedly confident, though.

...to be continued (hopefully)

Cup of Harmony Round of 32: Krytenia 2-1 Chromatika @ Stadium of the Stars, Ulyanof, Kelssek
Chromatik Scorers: Andisori, K. '83
Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Ria; Xiao - de Aea - Will - Ilya; Armageddon - Dias; Victoriane - Mora - Dragana; Andisori, K. (C).
Substitutes: McBee -> Xiao ('52), Conrad -> Dragana ('74), Kuzami -> Mora ('79)

STADIUM OF THE STARS, ULYANOF, KELSSEK -

And with one swing off the right foot of Selaphiel Kennedy in the eighty-sixth minute - only three minutes after Keira Andisori tied the match - Chromatika suffered its ninth defeat by a single goal in this campaign and exited the Cup of Harmony in disgrace.

Two hours later, the Chromatik Football Federation announced the immediate firing of Konrad Evans and Kathleen Everdeen from the Managerial staff. Zoe "Z" Benne will remain the team's physician, but Chromatika will have to go back to square one when it comes to the World Cup.

It's a shocking exit for the duo in their second season at the helm after finishing in the World Cup Proper Group Stage in the previous World Cup in third place.

Will the team look for another international manager? Who would actually take such a leap? If not, who will they look to? Lisa Amos? Sillian Parker? One of the domestic managers?

A dark moment in Chromatik football history. Where the team goes from here, only time will tell.

Reports done by Hondorola, our Engineering categorist and editor

"Dingledine's new celebratory ride is a swanky one" - Hondorola, professional engineer and fixer-upper of cars in general

Yeah, that's what I said. Dingledine's new celebratory car is a swanky one, blah, blah, blah, I know everyone's going to say I'm out of my mind, and I am, mind you, on way too much booze as of right now, but this is a 1980 Verde Scorpio. That's a catchy car, and to top it off, a state-of-the-art model from more than a thousand years ago! Mind-blowing, right?! So it was no surprise that when the administration was null and void of an international bus, Dingledine's absolute confidence and brilliance in the industry brought out this baller from a millenia ago, and it saved the administration itself of any costs. He's a totally humble guy, and he's what's driving his lads to success. Regarding this, the national team themselves had a lot to say about Dingle's financial masterclass.

"I don't really like the design at all, but I do think Dingledine as a person and a manager helps us lads out, so it's not a surprise to see him doing so for the administration and the board when budgetary finances were running low. Also, VIOHJ GEEKTOPIA!" *Leabo then proceeds to stuff his head into a solo cup that used to contain booze*

"I do feel like the G.F.A. were definitely responsible for the absolute outrage of not having a team bus, but I'll partially put that burden on the manager because I love to blame others!"
- Osorto

"I'm not in the mood to party tonight, because I'd have much a better time congratulating our manager on finding a vehicle for us to romp around the Mordecaian streets in. For anyone listening, that's the demonym of a citizen that lives in our capital city. Down the Savojars, they probably made my face look like a weasel's backside, I'm not sure!"
- Loui

"I know I score a lot of goals in the team, life seems good for me, doesn't it? But I'm having a personality crisis, somebody help me! I don't know whether I'm clever, inept, or senile! Or maybe a mix of the three! Oh god, I'm losing my marbles but I'm also probably going to be kept in the first team for our next World Cup endeavor because I assist and score a lot, and am somehow a team leader, so that's something to be happy about at least!"
- Barella

"I don't think Dingledine's investment was good or great or incredible at all! I could probably fight him for that car, you know. I could probably win a fistfight with the nineteen-year old Dingledine, I proclaim. He probably didn't even have a car at that age, haha! Remarkably, he thinks my personality traits aren't lifelong and is willing to give me psychotherapy and keep me in the team, haha! What a dumbass!"
- Crete

"I know I am a chatterbox and may spout out everything that may look like false wisdom to the press, but I'm here to say, and I probably wouldn't even be here right now if I had ever been so downtrodden and depressed if our manager hadn't carried us out like an absolute savior that he is, to say that his investment wasn't a kempt action almost as wise and as holy as our Googology lord himself Sbiis Saibian would be to carry out treason to the country! I love my gaffer and I don't care what car he'd drive me through no matter if it wasn't a celebration or didn't look to be a celebration at all. I'd play the whole ninety minutes through a hellish pitch because I strive to impress and never take my thought off of doing bits for him! I don't care if we lose against TJUN-ia or not, hell, prop me up like a ramp and I'd let him drive over me!"
- Pillars

"Hmph, I would have made an even better investment, and I don't care if you beat my ass right now, Pillars! *scoffs* If you even could. That's how much I care about myself not caring about others' unsaviorlike opinions compared to mine. Fucking plebs, I could probably kick a ball to the Underworld and still be above your playing level. Like Crete said, Dingledine also thinks my personality trait isn't lifelong. Has he even looked at a news board? Of course not." *upon getting up to get the hell out of the bar, he slips to fall down, and while doing so, breaks the stool he was sitting on like a vegetable that shouldn't even have it's caretaker give effort to show what vile monster they were caring for before being shunned off of the face of the earth itself*
- Andreen

"I'm absolutely killed by this win. I wanted our lads to take it easy on the opponent we'd been drycleaning throughout the nation's sporting history but everyone said I made no sense. Now they probably wish they'd eat their words, hmph. Or maybe they still don't know what the hell I'm talking about, it's up in the air."
- Sudlow

"Sorry, I'm an introverted guy, I can't talk right now, but I'll tell you what, I love this booze! It's as fine as wine! If it were wine, that is. Yeah, I'm probably getting the exclusion next World Cup."
- Resendis

"I think the investment made by our manager was an absolutely outstanding one. If you're listening, Dingledine, you absolutely made our day and the administrations, and if we would have any money to thank your polished, very nice, underside with, common sense would have hell to pay, and common sense tells our administration that they're as broke as a runaway's trailer truck's license plate."
- Medine

"Yeah, the move made by our gaffer-in-chief was pretty nice, but what about the model of the car in and of itself, does it go the distance, does it have the speed the durability, the mileage? I know I'm just droning on here, but like the cameraman who's reporting for Hondorola, who's reporting for Geektivities, which is a very nice newspaper, I read it all the time, no cap, I myself am a connoisseur on auto parts and engineering as a whole. I have made very many studies as a part of my internship for the" *camera shuts off in an effort to make Houg sound less pretentious*

Welcome To The Club
By Rami Niblick in Ulyanof, Kelssek

STARBLAYDIA, Sarzonia, Audioslavia, Valanora, Turori. It may read like an incomplete who's who of the World Cup giants - plus Turori - but these are the nations that Krytenia see as their fiercest rivals. After their last two matches, though, it's probably safe to say that Chromatika can be added to that list. The nation is most famous in Krytenia for being the side put to the sword to earn Krytenia their first (and so far only) piece of silverware; the Dragons' record against them since, meanwhile, is less than stellar. This particular game had an extra edge, meanwhile, for the Chromatiks. Having kept themselves in the tournament by virtue of defeating Krytenia in the last match of the group stage, they now had a second opportunity to advance at the expense of the men in sky blue and white.

The air of tension in the Stadium of the Stars was so thick you could almost taste it. On the one side, Chromatik fans, concerned that their all their victory over Krytenia had done was poke a beast with more teeth than the Osmond family; on the other, Krytenian fans worried that they'd come up short a second time when faced with the formidable obsidian wall of the Chromatik defence. The handshake between Stephen Mariner and Keira Andisori was met with laser-hot stares that could have roasted a chicken. Clearly, neither captain was going to be giving so much as a millimetre in this match.

Rather understandably, then, the first exchanges of the game were nervy and amounted to little, like two boxers using the jab to figure out their range. The Chromatik defence, the same band of four that had stifled Krytenia in the first game, were flexing their metaphorical muscles, muzzling the potent Krytenian attack comfortably. At the other end, Mariner found himself working off the ball as a defensive anchor, cutting off supply to Andisori up front. Chances were few and far between, often reduced to long-range efforts as two evenly-matched sides cancelled each other out.

The atmosphere may have been tense, and the football congested and tight, but the spirit in which it was played was much less antagonistic than your typical game against our Anaian rivals. Ross Green's mistimed challenge on Andisori led to the first of only two yellow cards in the game, and the only one for the Dragons. Remembering what had happened in the prior game between the sides, James Aitken made sure to deal conclusively with the teasing ball whipped in from the resulting free-kick. Rafa Mendonca hit the top of the bar with a forty-yard artillery shell of a shot late on in the first, but the two sides would change ends with no goals having been scored.

The turning point would come in the fifty-second minute. Kai Xiao did well to fly in and clear a dangerous Cormac O'Neill ball out for a corner; unfortunately, he landed awkwardly, a sprained ankle ending his participation. The old adage says never make a substitution before defending a corner, and sure enough, sub Zheide McBee was out of position, giving Neil Smith a free header to put the Krytenians in front.

The goal was exactly what the game needed, opening up play for both sides. Chromatika had to chase an equaliser; Krytenia knew a second would pretty much kill the game as a contest. Chances came and went. Mendonca hit the woodwork from range a second time, this time the near post with a low fizzer from the edge of the box. Veteran midfielder Jazmin Dragana came within inches of equalising at the other end, Damien Carpenter at full stretch to tip the ball round the post.

Something had to give sooner or later, and in the end it was the Krytenian defence. Dragana's through-ball was a thing of beauty, catching James Aitken between two stools and giving the captain all the time in the world to pick her spot and leave Carpenter no chance. Back to square one at one-one...but not for long. Krytenia were not ready to let the Chromatiks steal it late for the second match in a row, and the Dragons laid siege to their opponents goal, the obsidian wall bending enough for Selly Kennedy to grab a few metres of space and smash home a superb volley that Mia Ria just couldn't quite reach.

It was to be the last significant action of the match, and the last match in charge of Chromatika for Nepharim manager Konrad Evans, who was sacked following the match. Rumours of who might replace him include Stanton Town boss Rick Valens, who to his credit has done a wonderful job with the Dockers and fully deserved to be mentioned in the conversation for this kind of job.

Official Press Release from the Squornshelan Confederate Football Association following the match against Trolleborg:

This letter is addressed to Black-and-Reds fans everywhere.

I am announcing, effective immediately, my resignation as manager of the Confederate national team.

In the end, we finished one goal short of advancement in the Cup of Harmony, just as we finished one goal short of qualification for the World Cup. Our team's effort was valiant, but in the end it was not enough. I appreciate the frustration that you all must feel. If we had scored one more goal against Lochario, we would have qualified in place of Drawkland. If we had scored just one more goal against Trolleborg, we would have advanced to face Tequilo in their place. In truth, neither effort should have depended on such a narrow margin, and the blame rests with me. Our players put forth every effort, and delivered some truly inspiring performances. I know I will remember every minute of our win away to Drawkland for the rest of my life, and the amazing support of our fans who traveled to another planet to cheer us on. Thank you.

I am grateful to SCFA president Ailen Koirala and the entire SCFA board for entrusting me with this heavy responsibility, and to all the players who have donned the black and red to play for their country during my tenure as manager. I could not have asked for a better player pool to draw from, and it was always an agonizing task to narrow down the field of candidates for each round of callups. In particular, I would like to thank my team captains, Arlo Damot, Tervi Oleb, and Jinkzta Ulvciecel for their yeoman service and leadership. Arlo Damot especially, who had seen three other managers come and go, played an essential role in my takeover. His collaborative attitude set an example the entire team was happy to follow, and eased what could have been a very difficult transition. I could not have done this job without you, Arlo.

In addition to relinquishing my current position, I feel obligated due to my role as manager these past two years, to recuse myself from the hiring process for my successor. Accordingly, I will not resume my position on the SCFA board. I do hope to continue with the association in some capacity, if the SCFA can find a role for me.

Finally, to all the Confederates who have attended our matches or watched them broadcast, to all the young people who have said, out in the schoolyard, "I'm Zoban Ajao," or "I'm Stovar Krieven," or idolized any other of our players, to all the staff, journalists, broadcasters, and players who have accompanied me on this journey, I would like to give one last heartfelt, Thank You.

Gratefully,
Kornelie Tamela

Ailen Koirala set down the resignation letter and sighed. Her tenure as SCFA president had definitely not gone to plan. Two consecutive first-round exits at the Cup of Harmony, a vacant position on the board, and yet another managerial hire to make. It wasn't a good look at all.

"Do you have that report on managerial prospects I asked you to prepare?"

"Of course ma'am," Ivar proffered a file folder stuffed with printout, "would you like to go over it now?"

"We'll hit the details tomorrow, and I think I have a pretty good grasp of the domestic options, just give me a quick rundown of the foreigners please."

"Well, first off, we're hearing there may be some interest from Anne-Sophie Groothuis. I haven't followed up to gauge how serious she is yet, but she'd be a high profile hire for sure."

"Groothuis . . . sorry, Ivar, remind me where I've heard that name before," Ailen rubbed at her temples with both forefingers.

"IAC 7 champion with Omerica, also took them to the semifinals at Cup of Harmony 75. You probably remember her name from when her team beat us in the quarters."

"That's right, remind me to give you a raise, Ivar, for keeping my details in order on days like these."

"I'll put it on your calendar, ma'am," just a hint of a smile from her assistant. "Les Incorrigibles were in a bit of a rough spot when she took over, and her resume reads like our list of aspirations, so she'd likely be a good fit."

"Sounds like it, who else is out there?"

"Well hear me out on this next one, there's a young player manager in the Pug Xily'a whose been turning out win after win and is drawing a lot of attention. No indication they're interested in moving to the international game, but someone's bound to take notice of them soon."

Ailen frowned slightly, "A player-manager? How young?"

"26, ma'am, Ucyxi-Slokt Eva is their name, from KFQ Pretarljz."

"KFQ what? How do you spell that?"

"With an L, J, and Z ma'am."

"I'll take your word for it," Ailen leaned back in her chair, "Shall I assume they don't have any prior experience?"

"None that we're aware of, but they've taken a team not predicted to do very much to a perfect record through five matches, only losing for the first time recently to one of the preseason favorites."

"Don't scratch them off the list just yet, but I doubt anyone on the board will be thrilled about hiring a manager younger than half our roster, particularly Cervkle."

"They seem to be managing fine with several older players on their current team, but consider it duly noted, ma'am."

"Don't look at me like that, wanting to see more lines one someone's resume isn't ageism. Anyone else I should know about?"

"One other ma'am, a Taeshani, Xander McDrew. Had a decent record with the Purple Knights, nothing spectacular, but his resume includes a qualification and a good Copa Rushmori run. He stepped down after World Cup 83, and has had a couple postings in the TPL since then."

"Why do we think he'd be interested."

"Well he has a cup win to his name since leaving the international game, but was also sacked by Bayern Phoenix after a letdown in the league. There's some indications that he might welcome a return to international management. If we make a convincing enough case, we could probably pry him away from Sleepy Hollow."

"Doesn't Taeshan play all-out defense? That'd be quite the shift from what our team is used to."

"For the national team they do, but McDrew hasn't employed the same tactics since that time. He's switched to a moderately attacking philosophy."

"I suppose that speaks to some adaptability on his part. Is that all of them then?"

"The highlights anyway, it's a big multiverse out there. At home it's a lot of the usual suspects, Melkum, Hlinka, Skeens, and Antal will all be difficult, but not impossible to pry away from their clubs. We might also pursue some of their more ambitious assistants."

"Good, we'll go over it again tomorrow and then meet the board on Friday to hammer out a decision," Ailen sighed deeply, "and please get me a meeting set with Kornelie so I can yell at her for putting me in this position. Two major job searches at once and I have to find something for her on top of it."

"First thing ma'am, anything else?"

"Yes, go home and get some sleep."

"Only if you will too."

"Deal."

Shinonome Kyoai - International
News From The Empire

To The Round of 16!

Through turbulent times the Kandorese nation knows how to prove herself again; the Lotus Warriors have succeeded in defeating Riena in a one goal difference of three to two. Before the match the trust in Hayabusa was on a lower side of the positive, but surely the game against Riena has turned the tide slightly. With Hayabusa still firmly in control of the national team, they once again have shown themselves as a formidable squad to be reckoned with. For the Kandorese fans, this is a sign of relief and new-found trust in the national football team. However, the KFA is still cautious on making any statements regarding the performance; the fans were celebrating long into the night.

"It was a tough match but we have come out on top" Hayabusa exclaimed. "We still have to do better of course, but against a side like Riena you do not know what to expect. I also believe many other national media outlets said Riena would be one of the favourites because of their recent performance; have we shown them wrong once again. I think switching the team around with more of our experienced players has truly helped in this match. The younger players looked more comfortably against this opponent and certainly played way better than they did for example against Vdara. This will only be the beginning as we are finally finding our way in our playstyle and I really thing the hardest games are behind us. The stress and anxiety is gone now and we are ready to play the next opponent on our own terms.

"The next game will be against Kohnhead. A side we have never met on the field either but I think we can take them on. They are a very balanced team and can be quite difficult to handle as they are a very solid side. Honestly I think the first half will be the toughest half, but after that we will get to know their playstyle and we will be ready to counter them. For us the main struggle is organizing the defense again. We need to do way better in the back and stop allowing this many goals to get through. I mean, we do win the matches but we are letting parts of our defense fail when we are facing the teams so far. For me the main focus in the upcoming match will be controlling the game. Everyone knows when you control the midfield, you control the entire game. I have great faith in the players and also in the fans, who will help us win the title."

Proud words from the manager Hayabusa who is still threading a thin line after recent talks with the board of the KFA. The KFA expects Kandorith to at least make it to the quarter finals, but are hoping they will reach the finals for the first time in the history of the national football. For the fans the entire tournament has been one of ups and downs; as Kandorith has dropped the ball and their disciplined play quite a few times against less performing opponents. The only difference now is; one slip up and the team will be shown out the door.

A lot of fans are very hopeful and among the props they take with them into the stadiums are replicas of the Cup of Harmony trophy. One thing is for certain, the fans are ready to see the Lotus Warriors reach new heights. Of course the World Cup would have been a more preferred status for the national squad, but after failing to qualify yet again the Cup of Harmony is the next big thing for the Kandorese. During the Cup of Harmony 76 the team unexpectedly made a huge impression, taking down mostly much higher ranked teams to strand in the half-finals; the entire nation is hoping on repeating that stunt and this time, reaching the finals.

penultimate part

The two automobiles sped through the forrest on a path of loose stones. The chase went past a chain linked fence and went into clearing beyond the woodlands. Miloš was able to make a sizable gap on the rough roads, and quickly went into an industrial building on a hill. Nikola backed up, and parked to the car behind the tree line. He brandished his gun, “You know how to shoot?” he asked. Helmutov shook his head, “No,” he said, “not well enough.” “I think we’ll be alright until help arrives.” Nikola said, “You were keeping track of the roads well. Too bad they weren’t marked out here.” Helmutov touched his chin ponderously, “What if they don’t?” he asked. “Then we’ll have to come up with a plan. This is a bit over our heads if there’s anyone else around.” Helmutov pointed to the dark section of the hill. The moonlight illuminated the mound oddly enough for the old man to notice a change in scenery. Helmutov tapped his partner lightly, “I can make out a natural barrier around the premises,” he said. Nikola looked at him funny. “I see a place to hide.” Helmutov said again unbuckling his seatbelt.

The two men snuck out of their vehicle and being the “natural barrier” which turned out to be a tall bush. A factory guard slanted over yawning. Outside of the night guard, it seemed nobody else was around. It wasn’t like some random industrial space should be defended by a legion, but considering a likely terrorist was around, anyone else could be. Nikola went for his gun, but stopped before drawing the weapon. “You have any ideas?” Helmutov whispered. “Hold on,” Nikola said quietly. As the pair waited, nobody else came to man the entrance. There were no noises in the area beyond mother nature’s breath. It seemed like the big facility wasn’t staffed. Nikola remember that there were no vehicles around, and began to sneak away form the shrubbery.

Nikola tracked around the shrubbery, noticing a stone path he saw buckets. Nikola looked at the row of containers like it was a new species of animal. Th buckets were full of rocks, and one appeared to have a cinder block in it. He looked at where he guard was, picked up a stone, and chucked it at the guard. Like life was a spectator sport, the rock dinked right into the guard’s head. The guard fell over, and Nikola moved away from the buckets. Quickly the two sleuths entered the building, Helmutov straggled behind, keeping on the look for anything suspicious. The two men began to move in a forward and leftward direction. The building was large, and seemed to be a part of a larger complex. After a while, they seems to be room with paper rolls, and some kind of massive machine with spools that could turn the paper rolls. Nikola got out a small handheld flashlight read one of the machines, the emblem read “Antonić-Werić.”

A shot ran out. Helmutov looked around, the sound was untraceable in the factory. The lights turned on suddenly. Deputy Helmutov looked back and saw Nikola on the ground. Helmutov crouched over and oversaw Nikola in his state, he saw a tear in Nikola’s pants. A bullet was most likely in Nikola’s leg, or the tooth of a tiger. Who knows? Another shot rang out and Helmutov hit the deck, hitting his knee on the cement floor. “Stay down!” a man said with a booming voice. “Miloš,” Helmutov said to himself. Indeed Miloš appeared when Deputy Helmutov looked around. “You stupid playboy.” Miloš said. “I’m very glad you came down this rabbit hole, slime ball.” Miloš chuckled, “Absolute idiot.” he said, “I knew whoever took my stuff would come back. The man who stole my ribbon.” Helmutov snapped back, “if you’re going to impersonate national heroes, don’t be surprised if their allies are ticked off.” he said. “Don’t talk back to me!” Miloš yelled, “you don’t know why I hate you do you. You old fool.”

Miloš seemed to mumble, it was hard for Helmutov to understand what was going on. Eventually a sense of understanding came to him, “When my dumb relative granted leniency to you in court, the government went after my family. We recovered some of our standing. Even though that was nice, the full breath of my family’s life was gone forever. Everything my family clawed for in the revolution was gone. Now instead of being a president, I’m destined to be a low end bureaucrat! It doesn’t matter how hard I manage affairs, nobody is going to care.” After his rant, Miloš smiled smugly. Helmutov chimed in “You think falsified documents are an appropriate way to get revenge?” he asked, and there was silence, but then the old man continued, “You see what’s going on in the capital right now?” Helmutov asked sternly. “Why should I care? That’s just a bunch of other screwed people crowing over people they don’t like. It’s not going to mean anything in this society. Our political culture isn’t going to go away over one protest. We’re quite healthy. If we’re not, I can survive. I’ve fought for everything in my life.”

Helmutov was perplexed, “If Rekan violence escalate, then communities will be at risk. What if independence supporters in Hügeltaldom use this instability to promote separating? If your family’s money is drained, how will your clan continue on?” Miloš looked a bit miffed, “It proves I could be something,” he said loudly, “I can think about big things. I could be everything you are in a few years time if you hadn’t been such a slimy lawyer!” Miloš said, his hands shaking. “Stay on the ground with your buddy. You’ll both be sleeping soon.” Helmutov looked at the gun, “Do you think this will really solve anything?” Helmutov asked. “Yes. I was very fortunate that you wiggled yourself into this drama. I thought I’d have to go after you some time later. But now I will give my family it’s revenge.”

“You won’t,” a dull groveling voice said in the shadows. Miloš turned around, “Who in the hell is there?” he asked, as the old Helmutov got up and clipped Miloš at the knees. Miloš dropped his gun, and a struggle ensued. The men were suddenly pulled apart by people in suits. The men in suits held down Miloš. “You were not very smart to come in blazing, Mr. Helmutov” the voice said, as Luka walked out of the shadows. He walked up to Miloš on the ground, “you talk a lot, little one,” he said looking down on the young man, who spat at the ground. “You will be talking to me very soon, Mr. Antonić.” Luka said while turning to his fallen spy, “he should be alright,” Helmutov said. “Perhaps,” Luka said, crouching to attend to Nikola’s wounds, “He will need to have this fall checked on,” Luka said examining Nikola’s head as a groan came out of fallen man’s mouth, “I’m fine,” he said. “You’re not walking, partner.” Helmutov said as he went up to Nikola’s side. The two older man gave a good lift of the younger fellow and made their exit with a few huffs.

The men arrived outside, an unmarked police vehicle housed Miloš. Another vehicle parked beside the cop car, painted black as the night’s sky. More vehicles could be seen, and people were scanning the area. The begrudging government minister and his creepy ally placed Nikola into the second vehicle. “Mr. Helmutov,” luka said once Nikola was seated gently, “my men are securing the area for extra threats. You will leave when one for your safety.” “We should come up with a real reason for me to have this level of security.” Deputy Helmutov said before scoping the scene. He saw a man with hunting wears being drug into a car by agents. He was glad that who ever that was didn’t notice him or Nikola. Eventually a member of the search party directed the Deputy to the care Helmutov had arrived in. Helmutov got in, resting his eyes in the passenger’s seat.

By the time Helmutov had left the, Nikola has arrived at a hospital for treatment. Luka was sitting in a waiting room as an aid walked to his chair. “You are the uncle?” the aid asked. Luka removed his hat, “Yes madam.” the nurse smiled, “Your nephew is stable. Visiting hours are over, but tomorrow you may come back and see him.” Luka got up from his chair and spoke, “thank you madam, I will be back. The young man needs some encouragement.” “We have contacted the police.” the nurse said. Luka paused, with a his hand in his pocket. “Of course. I hope they perform a through investigation.” The nurse walked away, and Luka began to text on his cell phone. “Room 2-12. Arrive quickly.” As Luka began to leave, a young girl was bing walked out by an older man. “Mother will be glad to have you back, Petra,” the old man said. The pair made eye contact with Luka and smiled. Luka tipped his hat. A green ribbon hung out of the pocket he had played with before, and Luka walked past.

Is it the end? Yes it is the end, the cycle is almost over, silly.

Chapter 6b: Beating Busoga Islands

Postby PotatoFarmers » Thu Jul 02, 2020 7:15 pm

Poafmersia 2
Shakira Handris 55'
Alex Hoboson 120'

Busoga Islands 1
Ibrahim Fatah 75'

Starting 11 - Sandi Jaliaha; Alex Pickford, Danzik Hoboson (c), Alex Hoboson, Timothy Gausun; Daas Taisg, Terezia Campos, Gisiik Moonar; Joel Haodao, Shakira Handris, Pete Carisa
Substitutes - Denise Pickford (Gausun 72'); Goon Figsh (Campos 85'); Hansel Tang (Haodao 96'); Dikash Johikas (Jaliaha 117')

This is one of those matches where Adnan Suliaha and Katiri Hedge came in with no plan apart from the standard playbook - pass the ball around and keep the possession. For the coaches, they know very well that the match could easily enter penalties, and they were very well prepared for it. Coming down from Zwangzug to play the knockout matches here in Kelssek meant that the team had little time to get used to the surroundings here, and they flew over almost immediately after they have heard that they are drawn on this side of the bracket.
The match was a close affair. Both sides were playing each other for the first time, and they have little to no experience of the opposition, save for matches in the multiverse-wide club competitions. The Poafmersian players saw it as a battle to the end, as there was nothing to do apart from going all out. They know that many of the opposing players played in the Banijan league, and they know the quality of players in the league in general.
The match started off really tightly, with none of the sides making inroads into the opposite side. Players pushed the boundaries here and there, but nothing was coming out for the first 20 minutes or so. The first real attempt on goal was by the Islanders, with Ibrahim Fatah making a deep run into the Poafmersian half and taking a first shot, only for the ball to be parried out by Sandi Jaliaha. The remainder of the match was similar, with occasional attempts here and there, and it was a relatively quiet first half. To the Poafmersian coaches, it was quite reasonable, and they decided to continue with the original playbook.
So when Busoga Islands started the second half super aggressively, it was quite a shock. Utpal Ishan took the ball and ran quite a distance before crossing it to Ikshu Amitabh. If not for the reflexes of Sandi Jaliaha, surely that would have been the first goal of the night. The Red Panjias counter-attacked, and the first goal came just less than 10 minutes later. Shakira Handris and Pete Carisa did a one-two towards the goal. Despite Govind Nigam's efforts to stop them, the passing and pushing continued till they reached the box, where Handris made a side pass to Carisa for Carisa to shoot towards the left corner. Hibbaan al-Shareef reached the ball to push it out, but Handris found the ball and slotted it in the other side, and al-Shareef could not get there in time. For the Islanders, this was a serious blow to their efforts, and they were very determined to get a goal in. In the end, a cross from Kamu Jacobs found Fatah to allow the Islanders to equalise.
90 minutes over, yet no one could score the winner. Both managers started to bring on fresh pairs of legs, with Suliaha quickly using 3 out of 4 available substitutes. Meanwhile for the Islanders, Cicek Aga came on for Jay Khano, and Hassan Thiaw for Govind Nigam. Still both sides was obviously tired, and the intensity decreased. The coaches suspected that it was going to penalties, so as a last change for the night, they brought on Dikash Johikas, the better penalty keeper. The next 6 minutes (3 minutes plus 3 minutes of injury time) proved otherwise.
The game continued with a throw-in from the Islanders, but it was Alex Pickford that got to the other side of the throw-in. He made a quick pass to Alex Hoboson, and Alex Hoboson dribbled the ball forward before getting it to Goon Figsh. Figsh then pressed forward before getting it to Gisiik Moonar. Moonar then found Hansel Tang in the left side, promptly crossing it over. Hansel Tang found the shot but it was parried out. The rebound found Carisa, but Carisa is in a poor position and could only make a feeble shot. al-Shareef hit the ball, but his hands slipped and the ball went out of the line.
The fans went quiet. Everyone knows that this is likely to be the game's last attempt as the fourth official indicates 3 minutes of stoppage time. Alex Pickford ran forward to take the corner, and the ball found the head of Alex Hoboson, who headed the ball in to score the second goal, which would be the winner.
The Poafmersian fans roared as the ball went past the line. Adnan Suliaha and Katiri Hedge just promptly stood up and celebrated, while the rest of the coaches just shook hands with each others. There is no longer a need for the dreaded penalties, and the game is done and dusted.
For the remainder of the match, the Poafmersian players just sat back with everyone in the Poafmersian half, keeping their eyes on the ball and hoping that the final whistle would come sooner. When it came, the players promptly shook the hands of the opposing players, then took a bow in front of the visiting Poafmers, with the fans clapping and celebrating the victory. The attention of the fans turned to the screens, which were broadcasting the final minutes of the Mercedini versus Valladares. The match was tied at 4-4 after 120 minutes, and had to go into penalties to decide the winner. Every Poafmer in the stadium watched the penalty shootout with anticipation, as they would play the winner of that match.
After a heart-stopping shootout, the result came, and Mercedini would be the Red Panjias' next opponents.
Mercedini's matches in the CoH thus far
MD1: Mercedini 0-0 Tequilo
MD3: Mercedini 3-0 Euran Oceania Territories
MD4: Mercedini 4-4 Ethane
MD5: Mercedini 1-0 The Jovannic
Ro32: Mercedini 4-4 Valladares (3-3 FT, 4-3 on penalties)

Mercedini are unbeaten thus far, and they came into the tournament as 31st ranked and one of the highest ranked teams in the tournament. Defeating them would be a Herculean task, but Poafmersia would look back at this match against Busoga Islands, look back at their win against Port Ember in the group stage, and uphold the belief that Poafmersia can and will come up of this match on top.

Starting 11 against Mercedini - Sandi Jaliaha; Alex Pickford, Danzik Hoboson (c), Alex Hoboson, Timothy Gausun; Daas Taisg, Goon Figsh, Gisiik Moonar; Hansel Tang, Shakira Handris, Pete Carisa

Predictions, Kelssek Side
Kohnhead 3–0 Kandorith
We believe that Kandorith was lucky to get this far, and that Kohnhead should come away with a relatively easy victory. Kohnhead’s inexperience could prove fatal for the team, as Kandorith can argue to be the more experienced team. Overall, Kohnhead should overpower them and force a win. The Kandorith defense will not be able to stop a powerful Kohnhead one and will fall behind early, and fail to come storming back at the end.

Port Ember 1–2 Krytenia
Despite being higher ranked right now, we think that Krytenia is the better team. They will be able to dominate the, on offense as they have shown against many other teams like Chromatika and pretty much any team from Group 2. We know from experience how good this team can be, and they should not be underestimated against the side that is higher ranked than them. Krytenia win.

Vdara 2–0 Squornshelous
Vdara has been one of everyone’s favorite teams during this World Cup cycle, and it is easy to root for them. They have shown a great skill on both sides of the ball, and Squornshelous may not be able to keep up with the pace of this team. Vdara is a team that we believe could go very far, this game will be a good test for the team. They just have to go out there and prove that they can win.

Mercedini 3–2 (AET) Poafmersia
Despite the Poafmerisans team apparent skill of advanced stats on other teams, the Poafmersia team will probability be overwhelmed by Mercedini, enough to force a Extra Time period and a Mercedini win. Poafmersia will have trouble against the highest ranked remaining team, and the victory could very well be a much higher one for the Mercedini team if everything breaks right for them.

Zwangzug Half
Trolleborg 2–3 (AET) Northwest Kalactin
After the surprise win against Tequilo, the Trolleborg team seems to be riding very high in their momentum from the game before. Of course, they will have a very tough test against Northwest Kalactin. In the end though, we think that the Kalactanians will come home with the game. It will be a very close game, we think, and it could very well go down to the wire.

TJUN-ia 1–3 Geektopia
We think that Geektopia has the game here. They played a very good game against a powerful team in Savojarna, and we think that their ability to perform in large games will definitely help them in this game, which comes against TJUN-ia. Geektopia is also a team that has quite a bit more experience than TJUN-ia, which will definitely help them in a big game like this.

Darmen 1–2 Omerica
Even though that Darmen is a favorite to win the Cup of Harmony this cycle, Omerica is a team that will provide a large challenge for them, and could very well win. Darmen definitely has more in terms of experience, but Omerica is a team we could start to see much more in big competitions coming in the near future, possibly even the World Cup.

Flavovespia 1–1 (4–5 PKs) Astograth
We think that Astograth and Flavovespia are some of the best teams in this cycle of the Cup of Harmony. Both teams have showed that they can play well in big games, and they are both power teams in their groups this cycle. Any one of them could very well go for the title, and this game will be a decider. We think that Astograth will win though, based on their sheer team talent compared to Flavovespia.

GENERAL ELECTION - Coverage, Part VII

2:45am

Neil Alexandersson: With me now is newly-returned Conservative MW Stephen Armfield, from his count in Ousevale. Mr. Armfield, would you call this election campaign a failure?

Stephen Armfield: I think a lot of our critics will try and use this as a stick to beat us with. I think we've fought a good campaign, got our message across well, and connected with the voters.

Neil Alexandersson: But you're losing seats. Surely if you'd connected with voters you'd be winning them?

Stephen Armfield: This is an odd election, though. Look at the Reform Party, it's a completely new party and looks to have swept the polls. I think the voters have been seduced by the fresh meat, and I can't see this happening again in the next election.

Neil Alexandersson: So you're conceding that you've lost?

Stephen Armfield: The indicators are that we haven't gained an overall majority. But we've held firm in the face of Reform and the Socialists, and we're likely to see off the Democrats in a bunch of rural seats. We might even have taken as seat or two off the Nationalists down south as well.

Neil Alexandersson: Is that enough for your leader to stay in place?

Stephen Armfield: No self-respecting Conservative is even brooking the notion that Sarah Finch is going to lose her job. She has done very well for the party, we won the first debate, and I firmly believe Ms. Finch is a future PM. We have faith and patience in her.

Neil Alexandersson: Thank you Stephen, I'm going to have to stop you there because we have a declaration. David.

David Hughes: We're heading to the Monteste foothills for Nicole Deschamps' count in Valque.

I, Maurice Durand, being the Presiding Officer for the election of a Member of the Witting for the division of Valque, can confirm that the election has been completed in a fair and legal manner, and that the number of valid votes cast for each canditate are as follows:

Moi, Maurice Durand, en tant que Officier Superviseur de l'élection d'un membre du Witting pour la division de Valque, peux confirmer que l'élection s'est déroulée d'une manière équitable et légale, et que le nombre de votes valides exprimés pour chaque canditate sont les suivants:

Deschamps, Nicole Charlotte, The Socialists, les Socialistes, seventy-one thousand, four hundred and sixten votes. Soixant-onze mille, quatre cent seize votes.
Garnier, Jean-Luc, Reform Party, Parti Reformiste, twenty-six thousand, eight hundred and fifty-two. Vingt-six mille, huit cent, cinquante-deux.
Legrand, Pierre Martin, Krytenian Democrats, Démocrates Croitenien, five thousand, one hundred. Cinq mille cent.
Ouvriére, Marcel Stephane, Communist Party of Krytenia, Parti Communist de Croitenie, eight thousand, nine hundred and eighty-four. Huit mille, neuf cent, quatrevingts-quatre.
Roux, Louise Amelie, The Greens, les Verts, fifteen thousand, six hundred and thirty three. Quinze mille, six cent, trente-trois.
Simmonds, Graham Arthur, Conservative, Conservateur: three thousand, two hundred and twelve. Trois mille, deux cent douze.
Vinciennes, Albert Jean, Bloc Montestien, twenty-two thousand, seven hundred and sixty-three. Vingt-deux mille, sept cent, soixante-trois.

There were two hundred and nineteen spoiled ballot papers. Il y avait deux cent dix-neuf bulletins de vote invalides.

I hereby declare that the above mentioned Nicole Charlotte Deschamps has been returned as Member of the Witting for this division. Je déclare par la présente que Nicole Charlotte Deschamps, mentionnée ci-dessus, a été renvoyée en tant que membre du Witting pour cette division.

Image

Nicole Deschamps: (from her count) Let me first offer my thanks to my fellow candidates for a clean campaign, albeit one I've largely been absent from, to those who have helped organise and execute the electoral process in such an exemplary manner, the police and security staff keeping everything and everyone here safe and secure, and to my agent, who's been stuck with doing all the dirty work I've not been here to do. I'm most grateful to represent the wonderful people of Valque for a fourth term.

Looking at the wider picture, we are looking at a new dawn in more ways than one. It looks increasingly certain Mr. Linton will be forming a majority government with a brand new party. But across the country, as here in Valque, people are realising in increasing numbers that if they want a fair deal at work, if they want a truly world-class infrastructure, and if they want clean energy, good healthcare, and the public purse spent on projects that will actually benefit the public, there's only one party to vote for. The rose is blossoming across Krytenia, and we shall not rest, shall not be silent, shall not leave the Government unaccounted for, until this nation elects a Socialist Prime Minister and our people get the deal they deserve. And on that day, a true new dawn will break for all of us. Lever le drapeau rouge! Vive les traveilleurs!

David Hughes: Strong words from Ms. Deschamps, there.

Louise Candara: It shows a marked contrast. We heard the defensive words from Stephen Armfield a few minutes ago, having to put a positive spin on the Conservatives likely second place finish, then Nicole Deschamps delivers a confident and bombastic speech despite the fact that her party looks to be in third place again. The momentum is with the left at this election, it'll be interesting to see if they can keep that momentum going for the four or five years they need to if they want to turn this into gains at the next election.

David Hughes: A crumb of comfort there for the Democrats - Peter Pagnelli won't be alone in the Witting as Rachel Walker retains Buyon.

Flavovespia brushed off any of the pre-game nerves going into this match, and took the win over Sharktail to advance onwards to the Round of 16. The recovery after the loss to Kohnhead was sufficiently strong to fire Flavovespia through, and the result comes with a sense of Flavovespia definitely meeting their expectations so far.

Flavovespia returned to the same starting 11 that had beaten New Lusitania in the group stages. The line-up and associated tactics had been successful, not just in the Cup of Harmony 77, but in the latter stages of the World Cup Qualifiers 85. Flavovespia once again took the field in the yellow and black home kit, in Arlington. Sharktail, in their light blue kit, lined up in the classic 4-4-2. They also had the classic 1-11 numbers, one for the neutral purists for sure. Both teams looked ready for the off, and both certainly saw this as a winnable match when the final group games finished and the bracket completed.

If there were any nerves, then it didn’t show in the opening minutes. Flavovespia were able to string some good passes early on, and Steven Hall’s low ball in to Scott Coleman 5 minutes in was just flicked away by Hidawi in the nick of time, otherwise Flavovespia would’ve had a great chance for an opener. Meanwhile at the other end, Sharktail may have seen slightly less of the ball in the early stages, but they did go close. Fikri’s effort from outside the box moved through the air, and David Meehan needed good reflexes to react quickly and tip it away. Sharktail were a bit unfortunate that the corner resulted in nothing, with the ball clipping one of their players unexpectedly on the arm and a handball being called.

Flavovespia were the ones to break the deadlock, after 12 minutes. Steven Hall picked up the ball halfway in the Sharktail half, from Richmond’s pass. He dribbled into the space between Yusti and Hidawi. There was too much hesitation between the two of them to put in a challenge. Hall had enough time on the edge of the box to take aim and shoot. His shot was accurate, beyond the reach of Ahmad, and into the back of the net. 1-0 for Flavovespia, who had edged ahead early on in this knockout game.
The advantage was with Flavovespia now, but there was still plenty of time to go in this game, and it wasn’t settled yet. Mere minutes afterwards, David Meehan had to be alert again with Gaby shooting heard from just inside the box. The shot was wide, but it still forced Meehan into a dive to try and cover it. Sharktail certainly hadn’t let their heads drop, and despite being behind, were probably equalling Flavovespia in open play.

Depsite a good push for an equaliser, the second goal in the half went to the Hornets. A foul by Yusti gave Flavovespia a good opportunity from a set piece 22 metres out. James King stood over it, the question being whether he’d go direct for goal, or go for a set piece routine. He went for the former, and got the ball curling around the ball and back, a little inside the post and beyond Ahmad. Maybe questions could be asked of the goalkeeper’s and the wall’s positioning, but Flavovespia won’t care. It was 2-0 after 40 minutes in a game that was looking fairly balanced. With the 2 goal lead, Flavovespia were very happy with how things have been going.

For Flavovespia, the second half would need to be cautious, but not overly defensive or negative. Sharktail would be sniffing for goals as quickly as possible, to save themselves from elimination. Sharktail had the better share of the ball and the play in the opening 15-20 minutes of the second half. For many, it felt that there was an inevitability of a goal for Sharktail, to halve the deficit and put themselves right back in with a chance of qualifying for the Round of 16. However the defence of Flavovespia held firm. Sharktail couldn’t find that killer pass or shot, and Flavovespia managed to ride out a difficult spell, without conceding.

Flavovespia had a few chances in the second half, but couldn’t convert them. Steven Hall had another shot from a similar range to his goal, but this one curled too much inwards, and Ahmad could easily gather it. Substitute David Michael, making his first appearance in the Cup of Harmony, made a good run into the box, but couldn’t finish from a narrow angle, firing over the bar. Flavovespia weren’t quite as strong in the second half, but didn’t need to be with the lead. As the minutes ticked on, the confidence that Flavovespia were going through began to grow and grow.

Sharktail finally scored in the depths of injury time. They never gave up, and had a corner with almost everyone in the box. The first contact was a glancing touch by Hidawi, that fell into the path of Gaby. Gaby fired home from close range, with nothing Meehan or substitute Alexander May on the goalline able to do about it. No time for celebrate however, as Sharktail grabbed the ball and ran it back to the centre spot. However, it was a matter of just keeping the ball for Flavovespia for the remaining seconds of the game, and they did that to finish the game 2-1.

Flavovespia get their first international knockout win, and move on to the Round of 16. There, in Eagles' Club, Forbridge, they’ll be playing Astograth. The Olibondeka have been one of the success stories of the Cup of Harmony. Ranked 100th and in Pot 4 going into the tournament. Only a draw against Huayramarca (rnaked below them) has been a small blemish on their record so far. 3 group stage wins and a win in the Round of 32 over Ethane has put them into the Round of 16. That’s 4 opponents ranked higher than them they’ve defeated, and Flavovespia will be their 5th opponent ranked higher than them. For Richard Crawford and the Hornets, there can be no underestimation of Astograth. Their 4-2-3-1, captained by Indartsu Lekea in Zwangzug so far, has been very effective. The front 4 of Berdesagar, Malkorra, Duarte, Urdanibia may not be the most explosive attacking quartet in the Cup of Harmony, but they’ve been stellar at the back, only conceding 2 goals so far all tournament. Veteran goalkeeper Aratz Anzizar has already announced his retirement after the Cup of Harmony. For Flavovespia, they’ll be hoping his last game is against them. It’s going to be a tough matchup against a nation whose experience and play at the Cup of Harmony far exceeds their 3-figure position in the KPB rankings, but everyone in Flavovespia will be hoping that the Hornets are up for the fight, for a spot in the quarter finals.

Kohnhead defeat The Sarian 2-1

Image
(Charles Laker tells The Sarian to "Take the L" after he scores the winner)

Playing at the Stade Outineau in Outineau, Kelssek, The Brains improved to 2-0 at said stadium defeating The Sarian 2-1. Kohnhead came in as the three seed in the round of 32 and got to play the 30 seed and the squad improved to 2-0 in round of 32s. The Brains had to overcome a 1-0 deficit but were able to do so, and are now advancing to the round of 16. (BOF 72 Round of 16 memories intensify).

Both sides looked nervous in the beginning with both sides making crucial mistakes that could have led to goals. The Sarian capitalized, while Kohnhead failed to do so. In the 24th minute, Jaxon Pieuz launched a ball down the line to Lach Houten. He looked extremely offsides as Nicholas Radison was far behind, and Kohnhead was playing the offsides trap. The refs let Houten play on, and he put the ball into the back of the net. Everyone assumed it would be called offsides, but upon review Caroline Prius-Leonard's foot kept Houten onsides and thus the goal counted. CPL looked devastated after this, and Kohnhead would need to comeback.

I mentioned Kohnhead was unable to capitalize on a mistake from The Sarian. This occurred in the 32nd minute, when Walt Beunaad tried to clear the ball for The Sarian but failed to do so well as he appeared to whiff a bit, and the ball landed at Ida Cogginter's feet near the edge of the box. Despite having options around her and an ability to get closer she decided to shoot the long range shot and it went just over the bar ending Kohnhead's best chance of the first half.

In the second half something seemed to change for The Brains. They went more on the attack and the momentum started to shift. You knew a goal was coming just by the amount of possession they had, and how often they would get the ball into great positions. Finally in the 62nd minute they broke through. It was Linus Rallyton who sent a short pass up to Cogginter on the sideline, she then played a through ball into Rallyton who had space. He put a cross into the box where Kohnhead had bodies, and Hannah Horsford got her head on the ball and put it in. Just like that the game was tied at 1.

Just 12 minutes later in the 72nd we would get another chance. CPL sent the ball forward where Rallyton who had been very involved in all the attacks today picked it up. Rallyton took the ball forward before passing it out to Laker. Laker passed it up to Korkson who sent a backheel pass back to Laker. Laker picked it up and from good distance fired a shot to the upper left corner. Oodel Duoztiun saw where it was going and dove for it. The shot was too good though and Laker celebrated the normal way by telling The Sarian to "Take the L."

While the win was amazing, Kohnhead would suffer a heavy blow in the 79th minute as we were trying to preserve the lead. Maltos had the ball and she tried to dribble away from Luc Bisop, but Bishop stuck his foot out, fouled Maltos, got a yellow as Maltos was lying the ground in clear pain. Erin Maltos would exit the match, and in game Harry Richman. She has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament with an ankle injury.

Let's now look at who our opponent will be. We will be taking on Kandorith ranked 48th in the World. They are coming off of a close 3-2 win over Riena. Kandorith pundits seem to believe that they can be considered the favorites against us, and I see where they are coming from. With Maltos' injury and our relative inexperience they have reason to believe they are the favorites. Yet on the other side of the coin many including a writer from Northwest Kalactin believe Kandorith do not belong in the round of 16, and believe we will win 3-0. I see the point there being our attack, Newcastle's play, and the fact that besides one draw we have won every game, and still haven't lost this tournament.

Personally I believe it's anyone's game, especially considering their rank, and our inexperience. The deciding factor might be the Kandorith defense which has been sub par, facing our superb attack that is without Maltos. The match will take place at the Stadium of the Stars in Ulyanof, Kelssek the site of our first match in the tournament where we defeated New Lusitania, will it be the site of our last game in the tournament? I would hope not.

Boot It!: Rebels Beat, Now We Face The Geeks

Postby TJUN-ia » Fri Jul 03, 2020 12:22 pm

By Peter Davis

And so it was at the Bug House in Twineur, Zwangzug. The 92nd-ranked Jaguars in another knockout game, this time against a South Covello side who looked very scary indeed. The 16th ranked Rebels were the highest-ranked team in the entire tournament and David Seems knew their defence would be difficult to overcome. But he also knew that giving up now would be unacceptable.

So, it began. Jags in blue and Orange, Rebs in Red with orange and blue. Similar colours but a different first half. The Rebs were on the attack and it was a miracle that our defence managed to keep them at bay. Meanwhile, their defence looked like a brick wall of biblical proportions.

But Seems didn't give up and so he took his chance in the 2nd half. A corner by Pedro Vasquez in the 65th minute and Aron McKenna of all people found a hole. He shot the ball past Matthew Tyler quickly to give the Jags an unexpected lead. The rest of the game was TJUN-ia holding for dear life to that advantage but, somehow, they managed it.

TJUN-ia had won a knockout game of football in normal time, a first in the team's history. Celebrations were in order, but then the focus switched to...the game you are about to see.

In the Bangkok side of the FTC stands Palloci Pagoda Park. Here we will play he Geeks of Geektopia in a rematch of WC84Q. This will be first time we face the Geeks since our first WC and many expect TJUN-ia do be improved. But they will be too, with thier players of...unbelievable age. David Seems will be looking to make history and win a 2nd knockout game in a row. Can he do it? We'll see...GO JAGS!

Cup of Harmony 77: George Kostas calls the tournament a possible “inflection point” ahead of Darmeni clash
Incorrigibles manager “eager to carry forward positive momentum” for the national team ahead of the next IAC and World Cup qualifiers

Merano, Zwangzug — Omerica manager George Kostas has hailed the Incorrigibles’ performance in Zwangzug and called the tournament a potential turning point for the national team after an open training session in Merano ahead of a crucial knockout game.

After kicking off yet another Cup of Harmony with a six-goal draw, George Kostas had proclaimed his intent to resign as Omerica manager if he could not lead the team to at least a last sixteen finish, a feat which he has successfully accomplished with the victory over the Group 11 winners. “The way things are going, there is no room for us to play around further,” he said to reporters after the draw against the Squornshelan RS. “We have to pick a side. I want this to be a turning point for the team. We need to establish some consistency, whether we’re the shit or mere shit.”

Captain Red Bolton plucked a quote from former Omerica and current Malavan Romainbourg manager Anne-Sophie Groothuis: “When we’re good, we’re great. When we’re bad, we’re shit.” Bolton praised the “positive energy” of the team and their determination to overcome Omerica’s historical inconsistency.

Omerica went into qualification in a hole: thanks to a clerical error, the United Republican Soccer Federation missed the deadline to enter to the previous cycle and consequently plummeted down the rankings. Omerica landed in a group of death with the likes of Vilita, Qasden, Newmanistan, Krytenia, Saintland, Oberour Ar Moro, Riena and Legalese. Despite a strong opening win away to Krytenia, the Incorrigibles never found their footing and consistently dropped points to the four wild cards of the group—Lake Esper, Drunk People at the Local Tavern, the Southern Esportivan Union and North New South Wales—barely finishing at the midpoint of an arduous group.

“We had a hole to dig ourselves out of,” Kostas stated. “We needed a strong qualifying campaign and got anything but that. But we came back and regrouped. We’ve reset here and it’s basically worked so far. There are things we still need to improve on, but this team has been resilient and determined and it’s showed out on the pitch.”

After the draw to the Squornshelan RS, Omerica defeated Baggieland and Trolleborg on the bounce, with bye day results confirming the Incorrigibles’ place in the knockout stage—despite not being assured a top-two spot, the Incorrigibles could finish no lower than third in the group and would be guaranteed to beat out at least four teams on the wild card table. A surprise 3–1 defeat to Twicetagria temporarily blunted the momentum, dropping the Incorrigibles to second in the group and pitting them against Group 11 winners South Newlandia in the first knockout round, but Simone Bonfils’s confident 22nd minute goal was enough to take Omerica through to the round of sixteen.

“It’s all about putting on a good game against Darmen now,” assistant manager Christina Tedesco said to SFRD. “We play whoever is in front of us and we’re ready.”

The last sixteen awaits
Omerica now head to Spenson to play Group 8 winners Darmen for a place in the quarterfinals. The Darmenis went on a three-game winning run to advance to the knockout stage and sealed first place in their group with a draw against Riena on the final matchday. Darmen were pushed to extra time by West Pocono, but were able to find a winner to advance to the round of sixteen.

“A respectable result against Darmen will be great to take forward,” Kostas stated ahead after a practice session in Merano, where the Incorrigibles have made their base. “Darmen are an incredibly dangerous team and I would say one of the favourites for the title. If we can push them all the way, it will be a good result, whether or not we pull out the upset. Then, we just have to take that into the next cycle and the next cycle and the next and keep improving. This is possibly an inflection point. This has to be the moment we get back on our feet.”

“We made our lives more difficult with the Twicetagria game, surely,” Tedesco copped, referring to the defeat that cost Omerica top spot in the group. “That doesn’t mean we can’t make a comeback. South Covello were taken out in the last thirty-two, Tequilo got done something dirty and you have Ethane, Chromatika and Valladares all falling. I think it’s a great accomplishment that we survived a round that none of them did.”

“It’s coming to the point where more than a handful of us are getting ready to hang up the boots,” Bolton said to SFRD after the session. “We definitely want to go out on a high and leave the new generation of Omerican stars in the hands of a team that believe in themselves.”

Omerica take on Darmen in Spenson for a place in the Cup of Harmony quarterfinals, with live coverage on SFRD Sport. ⚜️

77th Cup of Harmony Round of 32 Highlights
Mercedini vs. Valladares
@ Macquarie Docklands - Latrobe, Kelssek

It's a temperate evening here in Latrobe as we begin to take in the fallout of a bruising Round of 32 at the 77th Cup of Harmony. Fans around the nations of Kelssek and Zwangzug are filing out of stadiums as we speak, with the final games of the round concluding just moments ago. As we mentioned previously, Mercedini managed to qualify for the knockout stages with a final day win over The Jovannic to ensure they didn't fall foul of an early finish. With the knockout rounds having an extra stage compared to traditional formats, squad depth will liekly come into the frey as the matches come thick and fast for those who are fortunate to make it that far. In what was likely the big ticket match, Mercedini were drawn against Valladares in Breton for one of the final matches of the round, so both sides knew who were the teams to watch before the game even kicked off. Let's see whether Mercedini could snatch one of the final spots in the Round of 16, or whether it was Valladares who were beginning their rise back up the World Rankings.

As the clock ticked past midnight in Mercedini, the winning penalty from Lawrence Garzallo as they edged past Valladares in Breton to claim what would was the final spot in the Round of 16, to cap off what was a rather surprising group of matches. Eight goals and seven penalties were scored in Kingswharf as the fans got more than their money's worth, as Valladares bridged the eighty places in the World Ranking to give the Golden Eagles more than they bargained for. It was a major scare for the full-strngth side put out by Billic, but the attacking prowess of the Mercedinians shone through once again as win yet another knockout round at the Cup of Harmony. Following that result, Mercedini knew they were playing Poafmersia for a quarter-final spot, as they beat the Busoga Islands 2-1 after extra time. Mercedini now become the second highest ranked team left in the competition behind Darmen, after both Chromatika and South Covello were taken out by their opponents, opening the door for the Mercedinians somewhat.

Back to the action in Breton and it was geared up to be the match of the round with Mercedini coming into this match, looking to realise their true potential which many believe was yet to be reached. Their opponents, Valladares, were once perennial qualifiers for the multiverse's biggest sporting prize but have since fallen from grace, and now find themselves in 111th (yes, one hundred and eleventh) in the World Rankings. What would have been a major scalp a couple of cycles ago, was now, on paper, expected to be a blowout. However, everybody in the stadium knew this would be a match of equals, featuring two nations that could certainly play football.

We only have a limited time on air tonight due to our coverage of the International Baseball Slam, so we won't be able to cover every single thing that happened over the course of three hours in Breton, but we will try our best to give you all of the thrilling moments. Valladares twice took the lead in the first half as they gave a performance worthy of any title-winning side, with Oliveira's fill-strength side pulling the strings of the match for vast swathes of the first 45-minutes. Fortin opened the scoring just before the half-hour match with a sweet strike on the edge of the box, before Mickel cancelled out Chillotov's equaliser in the first minute of added time with a ball which was smashed home following great work by the previous Valladares goalscorer, to pull it back and put it on a plate for the midfielder.

Mercedini had work to so in the second half, and with no substitutions from Billic at the start of the second half, it was a gamble, and nothing more than that. It was a gamble that seemed to pay off in the second half, with Mercedini dominating most of the stats after the whistle for kick off, the pressure was beginning to build for both sides. Mercedini had to score, while Valladares had to hold out and rides the waves in order to book their passage. Eventually, the pressure told as the Golden Eagles found their second equaliser of the game through Dostalok, who flicked a header past Gaviria in the Valladar goal, to send the 1000-or-so Mercedinians in the stands wild. Support for the Golden Eagles has been building in the past couple of days as they advance further and further into the tournament, it's the first time that there have been Mercedinians in quad-digits at any sporting event for a couple of months at least.

Said fans were rewarded for their patience with what looked to be the match winner as young defender Jordan Brindliev headed in from close range from a corner whipped in by Garzallo from the near side. Emotion was high from the defender as he yet what looked to be a crucial goal come the end of the game. Dini were 3-2 and simply had to hold out for a moment longer. However, that wasn't the last of the story as a double save from Hosset couldn't keep the ball from being squeezed in as Alexandre chipped it in from the six-yard box to finish off a scrappy but clinical period of possession for Valladares. After all that, there was nothing to separate the teams, 3-3 as the final whistle blew. Extra time loomed.

Extra time is never what teams what then it comes to long tournaments like these, it exhausts players and severely limits the squad available to managers for the next game, if they get that far. Play seemed much more timid after the restart, with both teams confident to play their own games, but seemed too worried to mess up this late into the game. Valladares made the first move in extra-time with a second for Alexandre and a fourth for Valladares. All three attackers were in play as they rushed up to the Mercedinian goal, Alexandre made a scything run which was met by an equally inch-perfect pass from Baume. The Tout-Puissant striker was put through to simply slot the ball past Hosset to inch their team ahead once again in the match. With the goal coming in the first of one minute of added time, Dini just couldn't respond, and Valladares went into another half-time break with the lead.

The match returned with much more intensity from the Mercedinians as they searched for a goal with much less time to play with, both Dostalok and Chillotov came close, but solace came from the referee's whistle as the ball was adjudged to have struck a Valladar arm while the ball was deflected away from a Mercedinian cross. It was dubious to say the least, and the Valladar players protested their innocence, but after another chack by VAR, the decision stood and Mercedini were given another lifeline in this match. Valadares had a chance to win it in added time of extra time, but Alexandre inexplicably shot wide, robbing themselves of a hat-trick and their team a big win. In the end, we ended as we begun, all tied up.

Penalties are always a nerve racking thing for any side, but equally so considering what was going on to lead up to this position. Each player stepped up to the spot, with the crowds huddling behind the goal to get a better look at the action. Chillotov in, Alexandre in, Nymark in off the post, Baume in with confidence. The first blip came from Presic who crashed the ball off the crossbar, with the ball landing on the wrong side of the line. That error was cancelled out by a moment of brilliance with Hosset keeping the scores locked together with a save versus Rojas. Karlovic and Rueda converted their spot kicks, with sudden death looming. Hosset had other ideas has he saved Padretti's low drive on to the post. That left all of the eyes on to Garzallo as he placed the ball onto the spot with the crowds waving behind the net. As short but speedy run up was met with a fierce drive towards the top corner. If any kick was destined to win a match, it would be this one from the man from Zoloroni. Into the top corner, and Mercedini had done it. 4-3 on penalties, they were through to the Round of 16, the final kick hitting the net at 00:03 in Mercedini.
