A look at the tables

With 7 days left to go in the Squidroidian leagues and all but 1 team out of international competition, the Super League is still a mess. A hot and sticky one. The league leaders? Still the Wanderers on 32 points, aided by a fantastic defense with Kopal at the sticks for the Flying Squids. The Squidbreak sit 2 points behind in 2nd, but when you go beyond that, it gets messed up. 3 teams, yes, three teams are all on 29 points, separated by their output throughout the season. In 3rd place and occupying Squidroidia's Taca das Confederacoes spot is Tyranny, led by 2 guys nobody knows but are tearing up the league in their silly masks, leaving Inkopolis FC in the final Challengers Cup spot in 4th, ahead of city rivals Real Squidroid, who are 5th, only based on their goal output this season. 1 point behind them in 6th are Tractor Club Sawayama, and in the relegation zone are your usual subjects - Starlight Boulevard in the pro/rel spot and Octo Valley occupying last place, only 8 points behind the Wanderers.

Anybody can still win the Super League.

Super League Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Calamari Wanderers CFC 21 8 8 5 22 18 +4 32 - Champions, CL and LdV
2 FC Squidroidia Squidbreak 21 7 9 5 27 24 +3 30 - CC and LdV
3 Tyranny Sports Club 21 8 5 8 31 29 +2 29 - CC and TdC
4 Inkopolis FC 21 8 5 8 25 25 0 29 - CC
5 Real Squidroid CF 21 7 8 6 18 18 0 29
6 Tractor Club Sawayama 21 7 7 7 19 19 0 28
7 Starlight Boulevard FC 21 7 5 9 22 27 −5 26 - Pro/Rel Group
8 Octo Valley FC 21 7 3 11 28 32 −4 24 - Relegated

And as for the Challenge League, we may have our winners, as Squidbreak B sit on 38 points on top of the table, 4 ahead of Northport Meadows who sit on 38 points and in the automatic promotion zone. However, even for the first teams in the league, it is getting tight. Club Factoria are capitalizing on Northport's bad results and are 1 point behind the 2nd place outfit, and 2 points behind them are rivals Spartansburg City. 2 points back of them sit Weedpot FC (Seriously, how does your defense allow 6 goals from freaking TryHard Sporting?), with TryHard Sporting in 6th, IFC B in 7th and Midnight calling off their season already, sitting in last place in the Challenge League. But still, HOW does THS score 6 in a game? They can't even do that in 7 games!

Challenge League Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts

The Squidroidian Youth League

2022 - Regular Season

Changes
No changes were made; no teams were added or removed from the SYL. The same format will be used, however with a lower split to determine 7th to 12th.
...Except...

Modified Republica Rules

Starting with the Squidroidian Youth League Finals Series, a modified Republica set of rules will be used, based on the Greater Republican Soccer League. These rules will not replace that of the Regular Season from 2023 onwards.

A modified Republica Rules game consists of a usual 90 minute game. If it is tied, 2 15 minute extra time periods will be played. If the game is not decided by then, a sudden death penalty shootout will occur, with goals in that round being worth double towards goal difference. A regular time win is worth 3 points, a regular time loss worth 0 points, a extra time win is 2 points, an extra time loss is 1 point, and an extra point will be given to a sudden death winner, making their total 3 points and the loser getting 1 point. The goal difference and point rules will not count in the Youth League Final.

An example of a modified Republica Rules game can be listed below:

Calamari Wanderers County Academy 0–0 Starlight Boulevard Young Boys (1–1 AET) (1–0 Sudden Death)

In this game, both the County Academy and Young Boys had a goalless regular time draw, then having a 1-1 extra time draw before heading to sudden death, which the County Academy won 1-0. As such, the County Academy are given 3 points and 3 goals to count towards goal difference, and the Young Boys are given 1 point and 1 goal to count towards goal difference. For simpleton's terms, the winner of a shootout gets +2 goal difference, the loser of the shootout gets -2 goal difference.

A look at the tables

1 game is left for every team in both the Super League and the Challenge League, but we do know one team who will drop out of the Super League - The Octolings of Octo Valley. 12 points behind 7th place Tractor Club Sawayama, they sealed their fate on Matchday 26 of the season and will return to the Challenge League next season. With that out of the way, let's look at the makeup of the Super League table.

Title contenders

Super League Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Calamari Wanderers CFC 27 11 9 7 31 24 +7 42 - Champions, CL and LdV
2 Real Squidroid CF 27 11 9 7 24 20 +4 42 - CC and LdV
3 Tyranny Sports Club 27 11 6 10 37 34 +3 39 - CC and TdC

3 clubs have a mathematically possible chance of winning the Super League on the final day, 2 front runners and 1 outsider. Calamari Wanderers, the 2020 league champions, and Real Squidroid, 2020 Squidroidian Cup champions, both sit on 42 points and are mathematically guaranteed both IFCF and FFI football next season. For the Flying Squids, it could be their second title in 3 years. For Los Squidroids, this could be their first ever title in the history of the Super League. However, still eligible for the title no matter how tough the odds are stacked against them is Tyranny from Ichimoto. They are 3 points behind Calamari Wanderers and Real Squidroid, and need every goal they can get to clinch the title on the final day. They need to not only win and both Real and the Wanderers to lose, but bridge a 4 goal gap between themselves and those same Calamari Wanderers to sneak out with their first ever title. Unlike the top 2, they aren't guaranteed IFCF or FFI football, all because of the...

IFCF Hopefuls

Super League Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
4 Starlight Boulevard FC 27 11 5 11 28 31 −3 38 - CC
5 FC Squidroidia Squidbreak 27 9 10 8 34 31 +3 37
6 Inkopolis FC 27 10 7 10 31 32 −1 37
7 Tractor Club Sawayama 27 9 9 9 22 23 −1 36 - Pro/Rel Group

Which is the rest of the Super League apart from Octo Valley. And it DOES include the Squidbreak and Inkopolis FC, both of whom are as susceptible to a promotion/relegation group spot as they are likely to claw their way back into an IFCF spot, the 4th and final one being held by Starlight Boulevard. For Inkopolis FC especially, this is a matchday where they have to pull off all the stops - Beat their city rivals in the Inkopolis Derby and not only giftwrap the Wanderers or even Tyranny the title, but move back into the IFCF spots for Challengers Cup football next season. Could they do it and stop the Squidbreak from going back in for more? Who knows!

As for the Challenge League, we do know one thing - Squidbreak B have wrapped up the title. But it doesn't mean the season is far from over, oh no no no - 2 teams, Northport Meadows and Club Factoria - have clinched Liga B Champions Trophy football as well as a spot in the promotion/relegation group, with them and Spartansburg City all having a shot at automatic promotion, Factoria sitting 1 point behind Northport and Spartansburg sitting 2 points behind. Additionally, Weedpot are also in pro/rel group contention, 3 points behind Spartansburg and needing a win and a City loss to clinch IFCF football and a shot at promotion to the Super League.

The Jecken Squidroidian Super League and Inklingcraft Challenge League

2022 - Matchday 28

Matchday 28

Heading into the final matchday, a total of 11 clubs across the 2 leagues were in some sort of hunt for either IFCF or championship glory. With 3 teams mathematically eligible to win the Super League and a further 4 mathematically eligible for some sort of IFCF competition, anybody, even Tyranny who currently sit in 3rd place, is threatened with the drop. A total of 3 games feature the 3 title challengers - Tyranny host already relegated Octo Valley, confirmed to go straight back down to the Challenge League after winning it last season, the Calamari Wanderers host last season's champions in FC Squidroidia Squidbreak in County Stadium, and Real Squidroid, currently with the best in the business in between the sticks, Squidroidian #1 Takemoto Shingen, have to contend with the Inkopolis Derby. Win against IFC and if the Inkling's most hated rivals in the Squidbreak beat the Wanderers or they close a 4 goal gap over the Flying Squids, they are league champions for the first time in their history.

Down in the Challenge League, even though the league champions are already decided, 3 teams can be promoted automatically to the Super League on the final day, with another team in a hunt for the final group spot. Northport Meadows, the team currently in the automatic promotion spot, have to face the team looking in from the outside in Weedpot, while Spartansburg faces the league champions Squidbreak B and Midnight play host to Club Factoria, who are eligible for automatic promotion.

The Footballer McFootballyface had done it. The Audioslavian, 21 years old playing for a decent club has given Los Squidroids their first ever Super League title. 9 minutes in. A cross from Ike Katai put the ball on the feet of the center midfielder, and with a shot past IFC keeper Kugo Norihide, he scored his second goal of the season, but the most valuable one of the lot. Ashihei could try, but with the Wanderers off their pace losing to the Squidbreak, the title was firmly in Real's hands. They were champions, and the finalist of a reality competition gave them their Squidroidian Shield. Their fierce rivals didn't even make IFCF football.

It wasn't a good day for Tractor Club however. The team who last season were in the IFCF spots were now facing a date with relegation. This was Liu Huiying's team. She kept this scrappy little outfit alive. But with a loss to Starlight, the team sit 7th. The Boys would play Challengers Cup and Taca das Confederacoes football next season.

The team replacing Octo Valley was, of course, odd. Northport Meadows, who joined the Squidroidian system just 2 short years ago, clinched promotion automatically after drawing with Weedpot, taking them out of the promotion equation. Factoria and Spartansburg, who hated each other's guts, were to join Tractor Club in the promotion/relegation group.

Squidroidia Sepak Takraw Champions

Season 1 Liga Super ST Championships

The Squidroidian Sepak Takraw season traditionally ends with the Liga Super ST Championships, where the top 2 professional clubs duke it out against the world's best clubs for the right to be the Super Champion. This season, the 2 Grand Finalists, Inklingcraft Inkopolis and the Grand Final winning Calamari County Strikers, traveled to Pemecutan to take part in the festivities.

Groups

Group 1

Ajaxland Antelope (SPM)
Athena-Brave Blood Rockets (HVY)
Inklingcraft Inkopolis (SQR)
Itam Berkilau (KGN)
Titih Lumberjack (PCU)
Tyrants (HTK)

Group 2

Bandar Ketam Iron Claws (ACS)
Batu Badak (TNJ)
Calamari County Strikers (SQR)
Dynamos (HTK)
Feng Guo Psavek (DCH)
Mengwi East Side (PCU)

Group Stage Matchups

Matchday 1
Itam Berkilau (KGN) 12 19
Inklingcraft Inkopolis (SQR) 21 21

Calamari County Strikers (SQR) 17 21 21
Mengwi East Side (PCU) 21 13 16

Matchday 2
Inklingcraft Inkopolis (SQR) 13 21 21
Tyrants (HTK) 21 5 15

Dynamos (HTK) 10 14
Calamari County Strikers (SQR) 21 21

Seemed like this matchday was "Destroy the Hebitaka Clubs Day" for both ICI and the Strikers, as both beat out their Hebitaka competition in both the Tyrants and Dynamos respectively in dominating fashion... Well for Inkopolis's case after their first regu which was just embarassing. But both teams demolished their opposition, moving them within fighting distance of the Playoff Group.

Matchday 3
Athena-Brave Blood Rockets (HVY) 21 21
Inklingcraft Inkopolis (SQR) 19 17

Calamari County Strikers (SQR) 21 21
Batu Badak (TNJ) 15 12

Hard work never phased anyone unless their name was Inklingcraft Inkopolis. It was a close loss yes, but their Matchday 3 loss to the Blood Rockets gave Squidroidian teams their first loss in the LSST this season, although both teams looked set to clinch the Playoff Group spots needed, On the Strikers side of things they would easily beat Tanah Jaya opposition in Batu Badak moving them to a 3rd match won for the reigning SSTC champions.

Matchday 4
Inklingcraft Inkopolis (SQR) 21 21
Titih Lumberjack (PCU) 10 16

Feng Guo Psavek (DCH) 15 14
Calamari County Strikers (SQR) 21 21

And that was a clinch from the Strikers as they locked up advancement to the Playoff Group no matter what happens on Matchday 5 with a convincing win over Dachine club Feng Guo Psavek. ICI also won, although they haven't really clinched yet... They did beat the hosts in the Titih Lumberjack in 2 regus.

Matchday 5
Ajaxland Antelope (SPM) 20 21 19
Inklingcraft Inkopolis (SQR) 22 15 21

Calamari County Strikers (SQR) 19 21 11
Bandar Ketam Iron Claws (ACS) 21 18 21

And with that Inklingcraft also clinched a spot in the Playoff Group, defeating Ajaxland Antelope in 3 regus to clinch 2nd behind the Blood Rockets from Havynwilde, who the team lost to in the group stage. As for the Strikers... Get used to the Iron Claws. Not spoiling anything, just get used to them and how they have dominated the competition.

Group Standings

Group 1 Pld W L PF PA PD Pts
1 Athena-Brave Blood Rockets (HVY) 5 4 1 8 4 +4 12 - Playoff Group
2 Inklingcraft Inkopolis (SQR) 5 4 1 8 4 +4 12 - Playoff Group

3 Itam Berkilau (KGN) 5 3 2 7 5 +2 9
4 Titih Lumberjack (PCU) 5 2 3 5 6 −1 6
5 Ajaxland Antelope (SPM) 5 1 4 4 8 −4 3
6 Tyrants (HTK) 5 1 4 3 8 −5 3

Group 2 Pld W L PF PA PD Pts
1 Bandar Ketam Iron Claws (ACS) 5 5 0 10 4 +6 15 - Playoff Group
2 Calamari County Strikers (SQR) 5 4 1 9 3 +6 12 - Playoff Group

3 Mengwi East Side (PCU) 5 2 3 6 7 −1 6
4 Feng Guo Psavek (DCH) 5 2 3 6 8 −2 6
5 Batu Badak (TNJ) 5 1 4 4 8 −4 3
6 Dynamos (HTK) 5 1 4 3 8 −5 3

Both Squidroidian teams would advance to the Playoff Group in 2nd position, both with a 4-1 record. For the first time in LSST history, teams from the SSTC were going to face each other, with the Final on the line if they can get through their opposition.

Playoff Group

Athena-Brave Blood Rockets (HVY)
Bandar Ketam Iron Claws (ACS)
Calamari County Strikers (SQR)
Inklingcraft Inkopolis (SQR)
Kiambang Kombat (KGN)
Vaanchai Borderline (ACS)

The 6 best clubs in Sepak Takraw. 2 from Squidroidia, 2 from Acastanha, and 1 each from Kayangan and Havynwilde. 5 games separated them and a shot at the championship. Let's do this.

Playoff Group Matchups

Matchday 1
Bandar Ketam Iron Claws (ACS) 21 11 21
Inklingcraft Inkopolis (SQR) 14 21 14

Calamari County Strikers (SQR) 21 21
Kiambang Kombat (KGN) 18 10

Here's Appearance #2 of the Bandar Ketam Iron Claws, beating out Inkopolis for their 6th straight win (Remember they went undefeated in Group 2) and a appearance in the top half of the table. However, the Strikers, SSTC champions, were having a laugh, taking down the Kombat in 2 clean regus to occupy, jointly with the Blood Rockets, top of the group.

Matchday 2
Inklingcraft Inkopolis (SQR) 15 19
Calamari County Strikers (SQR) 21 21

At last, it was the rematch of the SSTC Grand Final. Strikers vs Inklingcraft. By now you know what you gotten yourself into when the Strikers are in town - Dreda Nicotera's squids would beat the nation's second best club to sit alone at the top of the Playoff Group. With the Iron Claws making it 7 of 7 as well, they had competition. However, that competition didn't strike just yet.

Matchday 3
Calamari County Strikers (SQR) 21 21
Athena-Brave Blood Rockets (HVY) 12 13

Kiambang Kombat (KGN) 19 21 21
Inklingcraft Inkopolis (SQR) 21 13 15

In one game, sheer domination to put the game against the Blood Rockets to rest and sit on top of the group with not a single regu lost. In the other, another loss for Inklingcraft which put them on the borderline to last in the playoff group, behind... The Borderline. It was clear as day which team was going to make the Final and which one wasn't. That was...

Matchday 4
Vaanchai Borderline (ACS) 16 21 16
Inklingcraft Inkopolis (SQR) 21 18 21

Bandar Ketam Iron Claws (ACS) 21 21
Calamari County Strikers (SQR) 10 13

...Until the Strikers played the Iron Claws. It was absolute domination by the Acastanha club, the Strikers barely getting a bakers dozen of points in the second regu. With the Kombat winning against the Blood Rockets, there was essentially 3 clubs left that can get to the Final, and no ICI beating the Borderline doesn't count. If the Strikers can hold on, they would go through. If not, it could very well be a Kombat/Iron Claws Final.

Matchday 5
Calamari County Strikers (SQR) 14 16
Vaanchai Borderline (ACS) 21 21

Inklingcraft Inkopolis (SQR) 16 21 21
Athena-Brave Blood Rockets (HVY) 21 8 12

And then the Strikers lost to the BORDERLINE. For one painful second the Strikers championship hopes dashed away, with only the game between the Kombat and the Iron Claws deciding their fate. Luckily for them the Iron Claws went 10 for 10 in the tournament, punching both their ticket as well as the Strikers ticket into the LSST Final. The second rematch between the 2 teams, both matches prior going to the Acastanha club, while the Strikers went 0-3 against clubs from this nation before this moment, all 3 of them being their only losses in the tournament.

It was a chance to end a potential immortality from the team from Bandar Ketam and mark the Strikers name as the second ever winner of the competition. A chance that could never be reached again.

Playoff Group Standings

Playoff Group Pld W L PF PA PD Pts
1 Bandar Ketam Iron Claws (ACS) 5 5 0 10 1 +9 15 - LSST Final
2 Calamari County Strikers (SQR) 5 3 2 6 4 +2 9 - LSST Final

3 Kiambang Kombat (KGN) 5 3 2 6 6 0 9
4 Inklingcraft Inkopolis (SQR) 5 2 3 6 8 −2 6
5 Vaanchai Borderline (ACS) 5 1 4 4 8 −4 3
6 Athena-Brave Blood Rockets (HVY) 5 1 4 3 8 −5 3

The Second LSST Final

Bandar Ketam Iron Claws (ACS) 21 21 11
Calamari County Strikers (SQR) 12 23 21

The perfect 11-0 tournament for Bandar Ketam? It was erased in a single pivotal regu, the second one in the Final. With the Strikers winning it and denying Bandar Ketam their first championship, the tide turned in their favor. Beforehand the media prediction of the Iron Claws winning it all seemed to be a given, but after that second regu the Strikers played the role of kingmaker, and with a 21-11 regu won the championship in underdog fashion. Their third time facing the Iron Claws was the one that got them the championship.

The Calamari County Strikers were the Super Champions. The best Sepak Takraw team in the world.

The Squidroidia Lacrosse Premier League
Season 3

THE FORMAT

The Squidroidia Lacrosse Premier League, or SLPL, is Squidroidia's top flight domestic lacrosse league, with no promotion or relegation involved. Conceived as part of the army lacrosse system, the sport of lacrosse developed a large enough following after the Squidroidian National Team nearly made the knockout stages of the 34th World Lacrosse Championships in Jeckland. The Squidroidian Lacrosse Association, or SLA, formally broke away the top 16 army teams in the closed off SLPL to form a public league, housing Squidroidia's top lacrosse players and giving them a proving ground for national team callups.

With 16 teams, each team plays 15 games at "home" in Inkopolis and 15 games at smaller cities in Squidroidia, odd matchdays being in Inkopolis and even matchdays being across Squidroidia. Teams are given 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw (Since there is no overtime in the main season) and none for a loss. The top 8 teams after the 30 games play in the SLPL Playoffs, with the semi-finalists qualifying for the IDLO Champions Cup. The Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals will be held in TryHard Park in Inkopolis, and the Finals will be held in Tower Park in Inkopolis.

2023 Season Preview

Boxes of Jeckish Chicken will be served at all Super League venues.

Real Squidroid CF

Image

Nickname: Los Squidroids
Location: Inkopolis
Stadium: Tower Park (22,142 capacity)
Last Season’s position: 1st in the Super League, Quarter-Finals of the Squidroidian Cup
International Competitions: IFCF Champions League, FFI Liga dos Vencedores
Expectations: Challenge for the Super League title

Remember the name. Jan McCory. The Audioslavian ended up giving them their first ever Super League title last season ahead of the Wanderers. With this, of course, comes the big draw - Champions League football. Should they want to challenge for the title again they need to bring in at least some sort of star power to help McCory, Shingen and company through the campaign. If they do get to the group stage of an IFCF competition, as the Wanderers proved 2 seasons ago, it can potentially cost you a Super League spot.

Pundits Prediction: 3rd

Calamari Wanderers CFC

Image

Nickname: The Flying Squids
Location: Calamari County
Stadium: County Stadium (27,830 capacity)
Last Season’s position: 2nd in the Super League, Final of the Squidroidian Cup
International Competitions: IFCF Challengers Cup, FFI Liga dos Vencedores
Expectations: Challenge for the Super League title

So close, but so far on both the league and cup fronts, the Wanderers bounced back from their abysmal 2021 season (Leaguewise anyway, they did go to the Challengers Cup group stage that year) and almost had the title and the Squidroidian Cup in their grasps before it was taken away from them. A tried and tested side with Thuno Kopal in net may have to rebuild after this season, as they have to give everything they got to win the title once more with Brenecian Matt Rufan on the verge of retirement. Will they achieve their expectations? Only time will tell.

Pundits Prediction: 2nd

Starlight Boulevard FC

Image

Nickname: The Boulevard Boys
Location: Starlight
Stadium: Sunrise Park (17,000 capacity)
Last Season’s position: 3rd in the Super League, Squidroidian Cup winners
International Competitions: IFCF Challengers Cup, FFI Taça das Confederações, IFCF Cup Winners Cup
Expectations: Finish midtable

Da Hood is going to experience something only few clubs have gone through in their history, and none have in Squidroidian football until now - Triple duty. Challengers Cup, TdC, Cup Winners. Shocking the Wanderers to win the Cup is no easy feat. Sneaking into IFCF and FFI football along with that is insane. With Tikariot blood in their veins and genuine talent throughout, they can at least take one of these competitions down. All 3? That could be some serious man management.

Pundits Prediction: 7th

FC Squidroidia Squidbreak

Image

Nickname: The Squidbreak
Location: Takanori Army Base
Stadium: Squidroidia Armed Forces Park (30,000 capacity)
Last Season’s position: 4th in the Super League, Preliminary Round of the Squidroidian Cup
International Competitions: IFCF Challengers Cup
Expectations: Win the Super League

Imagine losing to a team from a nation named Hot Skitty on Wailord Action in the LdV. Thankfully they didn't, in fact they made the Liga dos Vencedores quarter-finals last goaround, but that had to be granted with some sacrifice. A sudden exit out of the Cup and nearly missing out on IFCF football entirely was the price to pay. Stuck with a Challengers Cup run to have they can at the very least recover, they did that between 20 and 21. 22 to 23? It could be on the cards.

Pundits Prediction: 1st

Tyranny Sports Club

Image

Nickname: The Tyranny
Location: Ichimoto
Stadium: Tyranny Arena (16,263 capacity)
Last Season’s position: 5th in the Super League, Preliminary Round of the Squidroidian Cup
International Competitions: None
Expectations: Finish midtable

This crime syndicate of a football club still had a chance of winning the Super League title on the final day - Instead they didn't make IFCF football entirely. Potential was wasted. Instead of Thursday nights they have to go back to the drawing board - It's easy to do with 2 unknowns, one of them netting top scorer in the league. We don't know Heckie, but Heckie knows goals. Will Heckie know how to guide the club back to IFCF football, or will Heckie keep them midtable? Signs point to the latter.

Pundits Prediction: 5th

Inkopolis FC

Image

Nickname: The Inklings
Location: Inkopolis
Stadium: Inkopolis City Stadium (50,000 capacity)
Last Season’s position: 6th in the Super League, Quarter-Finals of the Squidroidian Cup
International Competitions: None
Expectations: Challenge for the Super League title

The Inklings had hit their low point. If you were to confront an Inkopolis FC supporter, you would be met with a fan who sounds fed up with himself - No IFCF football. Knocked out on pens to the Wanderers in the Cup Quarter-Finals. No points in their Liga dos Vencedores group. For the supposed biggest team in Squidroidia's capital city, this seems like an embarrassment. That's what you get when Go retires from football to manage amateur ball. With one of their 2 Nepharim players ready to hang it up, at the very least there is some hope up in the City Stadium. They need to get back to winning ways, however.

Pundits Prediction: 4th

Northport Meadows SC

Image

Nickname: The Herders
Location: Northport
Stadium: Meadowlands Park (7,000 capacity)
Last Season’s position: 2nd in the Challenge League, Quarter-Finals of the Squidroidian Cup
International Competitions: IFCF Liga B Champions Trophy
Expectations: Avoid Relegation

This season will see Northport, a small town tucked away in the fields of Squidroidia, compete in the Super League for the first time to everyone's astonishment. Having won automatic promotion to the Super League, Northport have an uphill battle to keep themselves in the top flight of Squidroidian football. Smallest team in the Super League? Check. Only a couple million Yen in the bank? Check. Almost certain relegation? Surely they might. But with Liga B football once again on the menu, they could try to get themselves a piece of that pie to help them bolster their roster. The question is, of course, will it be enough?

Pundits Prediction: 9th

Spartansburg City

Image

Nickname: The Ironheads
Location: Spartansburg
Stadium: Ironworks Arena (15,000 capacity)
Last Season’s position: 4th in the Challenge League, Preliminary Round of the Squidroidian Cup
International Competitions: IFCF Liga B Champions Trophy
Expectations: Avoid relegation

The tin has been melted. Spartansburg are in the Super League. The hard working town waited so long to get here, and like Northport this season, they have to earn their worth to stay up. Unlike Northport, the Ironheads do have a sizeable market and some cash to play with, but it's more of the same. Get some talent and hopefully hold on. Liga B football will help too, but the question is simple, and that is to what extent it may go. No matter the case, however, it might take a while for the results to show.

Pundits Prediction: 8th

The new Souraoi team will be discussed in a separate post along with the new Newton team.

The Squidroidian Football Leagues

New Team Initiative - Souraoi and Newton

About the New Team Initiative
The Squidroidian FA New Team Initiative was launched in time for the 2023 season, in which 2 teams were invited to join the Squidroidian leagues - One in the Super League and one in the Challenge League, making both leagues expand to 9 teams. The team gifted to Souraoi won the right to play in the Super League this season, while the team gifted to Newton will play in the Challenge League starting with this season. The Squidroidian FA used this decision to help fixture congestion, especially with the IFCF and FFI competitions, as well as provide a more entertaining season in both leagues with the odd number of clubs.

Souraoi FT

Image

Nickname: Shock Central
Location: Souraoi
Stadium: FunStar Complex Football Field (25,000 capacity)
This Season: Squidroidian Super League
Expectations: Avoid relegation

Having won the right to play in the Squidroidian Super League, most people's attention would go towards the Souraoi outfit as they try to experience life in the nation's top flight as they try to stave off an immediate drop. Known as the Football Team by some, or Shock Central by other fans (Due to the shocking nature of this team probably or something), Souraoi have a long road ahead of them if they want to do anything special in such a hard, tough league, but they at least have some parts at their disposal - They got Tsukiyomi Kunimichi from the champions Real Squidroid and got him a sentient wok to cook with. Just don't piss the wok off, okay?

Pundits Prediction: 6th

Newton Pulsars

Image

Nickname: The Atomic Blue
Location: Newton
Stadium: Newton Nuclear Stadium (35,000 capacity)
This Season: Squidroidian Challenge League
Expectations: Finish midtable

If you're into a new fancy team from a new fancy city, however, you might be interested in rooting for the Newton Pulsars. Playing in an entirely new city built by the Squidroidian government that focuses entirely on nuclear technology, as well as playing in the 2nd biggest stadium in the entire country (Only topped by Inkopolis City Stadium). It is a shame, of course, that their stadium has to be empty for most of the season as they won't be playing in the top flight. The stadium did recieve some action in the IFC, but other than that there has been nothing going on with this new stadium, except for a certain thing with the Squidroidian Cup... Maybe this team could be promoted out of the blue, maybe it won't. Only time will tell.

Changes to the Squidroidian Cup
With the Squidroidian FA's New Team Initiative, the Squidroidian Cup has been expanded from 16 to 18 teams, with all the Squidroidian Super League clubs and 6 of the first teams in the Challenge League making the First Round. The Preliminary Round will still occur, but with the top 2 teams in the Squidroidian Amateur League (JG3B FC and Vossi Pop FC) each playing either Newton Pulsars or Midnight Soccer Club, with the winners of the 2 ties making the First Round. In addition, the Semi-Finals will be rotated between 4 stadiums in Squidroidia, following this cycle:

1st season - Newton Nuclear Stadium, Newton
2nd season - County Stadium, Calamari County
3rd season - Inkopolis City Stadium, Inkopolis
4th season - FunStar Complex Football Field, Souraoi

As such, the 2023 Squidroidian Cup Semi-Finals will be held at the Newton Nuclear Stadium.

The Squidroidian Football Leagues

2023 - Preseason

With another season of football in Squidroidia upon the horizon, the 7 teams who qualified to play in the 3 IFCF competitions are playing a tough (As per usual) pre-season consisting of big nights under the lights and orange slices for everybody. From reigning Squidroidian Super League champions Real Squidroid to the one who got away in Club Factoria, their energy, as well as a chance to make first impressions, comes down to the here and now. The season hasn't started in earnest yet, but it might as well have been right now...

IFCF Challengers Cup Extra Preliminary Round

Leg 1

Legion Tikhovesi (HER) 0-1 FC Squidroidia Squidbreak
Tikhovesi, Herkaluu

Leg 2

FC Squidroidia Squidbreak 3-0 Legion Tikhovesi (HER)
Squidroidia Armed Forces Park, Takanori Army Base, Squidroidia
FC Squidroidia Squidbreak win 4-0 on aggregate

With an extra preliminary round being the punishment for yet another sucky Squidbreak season, at the very least they were handed a kind draw in Herkaluu side Legion Tikhovesi. The team would end up winning 1-0 away from home in the first ever international club match for the Herkaluu outfit, before coming back to the SAF Park to finish the job in convincing fashion. Thank goodness they didn't lose against them, it'd be as bad as the Hotshima Slots.

IFCF Champions League First Preliminary Round

Leg 1

FC Pesari (SOR) 1-2 Real Squidroid CF
Pesari, San Ortellio

Leg 2

Real Squidroid CF 1-1 FC Pesari (SOR)
Tower Park, Inkopolis, Squidroidia
Real Squidroid CF win 3-2 on aggregate

And so the journey begins for Los Squidroids at the summit of international club football. Spoilers ahead: They'll get far. Winning away from home against San Ortellian champions FC Pesari, all they had to do was... Sit around at home to snatch their first Champions League tie victory in the club's history. A close game, yes, but one that was a surefire win, even though a minnow on a good day could do some damage against a big club.

IFCF Challengers Cup First Preliminary Round

Leg 1

Starlight Boulevard FC 3-0 1912 Stelburg (STL)
Sunrise Park, Starlight, Squidroidia

FC Squidroidia Squidbreak 3-1 Royal Rumitazi (ASG)
Squidroidia Armed Forces Park, Takanori Army Base, Squidroidia

Seri Meranti (SHT) 2-4 Calamari Wanderers CFC
Stadium National Seri Meranti, Meranti, Sharktail

Leg 2

1912 Stelburg (STL) 2-0 Starlight Boulevard FC
1912-Stadion, Stelburg, Siovanija and Teusland
Starlight Boulevard FC win 3-2 on aggregate

Royal Rumitazi (ASG) 1-1 FC Squidroidia Squidbreak
Knights’ Stadium, Rumitazi, Astograth
FC Squidroidia Squidbreak win 4-2 on aggregate

Calamari Wanderers CFC 2-2 Seri Meranti (SHT)
County Stadium, Calamari County, Squidroidia
Calamari Wanderers CFC win 6-4 on aggregate

With all 4 Squidroidian teams in the upper 2 competitions still alive, it was clear that at least one of them would drop off easily in the Challengers Cup first prelims. Everybody's eyes seemed to glance at Starlight Boulevard, winners of last season's Squidroidian Cup. Being drawn against a team like 1912, they were probably expected to crash out at the first possible instant... They ended up winning 3-0 at home and managing to keep 1912 at bay away to pull out an unlikely upset. The Squidbreak and Flying Squids also had decent results, holding on to Royal Rumitazi and Seri Meranti by 2 goals each.

IFCF Liga B Champions Trophy First Preliminary Round

Leg 1

Spartans (SAL) 2-3 Spartansburg City
Saltstead

Leg 2

Spartansburg City 1-3 Spartans (SAL)
Ironworks Arena, Spartansburg, Squidroidia
Spartans (SAL) win 5-4 on aggregate

It turns out winning promotion to the Super League has its punishments for Spartansburg City... Salty ones. Narrowly beating the salty Spartans away from home at the salt flat of a football pitch, they would end up choking away the lead with a 3-1 loss at the Ironworks to end their IFCF campaign right there and then. Sometimes you can't melt salt...

IFCF Champions League Second Preliminary Round

Leg 1

Real Squidroid CF 3-3 Navel FC (WRL)
Tower Park, Inkopolis, Squidroidia

Leg 2

Navel FC (WRL) 0-3 Real Squidroid CF
Navel Island, Whirl Islands
Real Squidroid CF win 6-3 on aggregate

A Navel Island based Navel side was all that the doctor ordered for this Real Squidroid team. 3 away goals in the first leg put Los Squidroids on thin ice easily, the team having to travel to the Whirl Islands knowing that a win would see them through to the third preliminary round, where no Squidroidian team had been to up to this point. A walkover in the Whirl (Although not in the literal sense) put them through.

IFCF Challengers Cup Second Preliminary Round

Leg 1

FC Squidroidia Squidbreak 2-2 Maal Angels (MRN)
Squidroidia Armed Forces Park, Takanori Army Base, Squidroidia

Starlight Boulevard FC 3-2 Otachi Audfort (SAL)
Sunrise Park, Starlight, Squidroidia

Wocalt Keep SC (OLA) 3-1 Calamari Wanderers CFC
Olastor

Leg 2

Maal Angels (MRN) 0-0 FC Squidroidia Squidbreak
Maal, Mriin
Maal Angels (MRN) win 2-2 on away goals

Otachi Audfort (SAL) 4-0 Starlight Boulevard FC
Audfort, Saltstead
Otachi Audfort (SAL) win 6-3 on aggregate

Calamari Wanderers CFC 4-0 Wocalt Keep SC (OLA)
County Stadium, Calamari County, Squidroidia
Calamari Wanderers CFC win 5-3 on aggregate

Of course, no 4 for 4 run could last forever in IFCF land. The Squidbreak were handed a hard task against the Maal Angels of Mriin, but managed to hold them at bay to a 2-2 draw at home. Starlight would be tempted by the salt from Audfort as they narrowly won the first leg against the Saltsteadish club at home, while the Wanderers came to Olastor and ended up losing the first leg.

Then... The choking.

Both Starlight and Wocalt Keep choked on their food, with Starlight blowing a 3-2 lead and Wocalt blowing a 3-1 lead, with both Otachi Audfort and the Wanderers scoring 4 at home to keep their journeys alive. The Squidbreak could have joined them too, if it wasn't for the Angels holding them scoreless at the away fixture in Mriin. 2 Squidroidian teams were left.

IFCF Liga B Champions Trophy Second Preliminary Round

Leg 1

Club Factoria 0-1 CAP (VLD)
Mill Park, Factoria, Squidroidia

Leg 2

CAP (VLD) 2-1 Club Factoria
Los Chorros, Mountbatten, Valladares
CAP (VLD) win 3-1 on aggregate

UNFUNNY JOKE INCOMING!
I guess Club Factoria didn't... Pop the cap off right. Ha. Ha.

IFCF Champions League Third Preliminary Round

Leg 1

Real Squidroid CF 0-0 AS Bezieres (VLD)
Tower Park, Inkopolis, Squidroidia

Leg 2

AS Bezieres (VLD) 2-1 Real Squidroid CF
Stade de Foix-Jules Picot, Bezieres, Foix, Valladares
AS Bezieres (VLD) win 2-1 on aggregate

Just one away goal... ONE. That was the difference Real had, and they would end up 1 goal shy of guaranteeing IFCF group stage football. A nill-all draw to Valladar champions AS Bezieres set up a crucial 2nd leg at the Stade de Foix-Jules Picot to see who would end up making the Playoff Round. Los Squidroids ended up falling short. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. It was straight to Challengers Cup football.

Speaking of which, I wonder how the Calamari Wanderers are doin-

IFCF Challengers Cup Third Preliminary Round

Leg 1

Pitxi-Pitxi 77 (TEQ) 4-1 Calamari Wanderers CFC
‘Estadio 77o, Ixta-Comitán, Chazapa, Tequilo

Leg 2

Calamari Wanderers CFC 0-3 Pitxi-Pitxi 77 (TEQ)
County Stadium, Calamari County, Squidroidia
Pitxi-Pitxi 77 (TEQ) win 7-1 on aggregate

...Yeah. No words can describe what happened. Only video can.
OOC: Imagine Mr. Krabs as Pitxi-Pitxi 77 and the fish as the Calamari Wanderers. Then you can know what truly happened.

IFCF Liga B Champions Trophy Third Preliminary Round

Leg 1

Northport Meadows SC 2-2 Crystal Springs HC (CRY)
Meadowlands Arena, Northport, Squidroidia

Leg 2

Crystal Springs HC (CRY) 1-1 Northport Meadows SC
Crystal Springs, Crystal Empire
Crystal Springs HC (CRY) win 3-3 on away goals

And one more just for good measure. The Challenge League sides of last season ended up being this season's IFCF Liga B Champions Trophy fodder, and Northport were another one bitten by the dust. A 2-2 draw against Crystal Springs gave them hope against the ponies from the Crystal Empire, but of course they came 1 goal short. 1 goal. And that's how the Liga B run ends... But it's not over yet for this preseason, oh no...

The Squidroidian Super Cup

Real Squidroid CF 0–2 Starlight Boulevard FC
Inkopolis City Stadium, Inkopolis, Squidroidia

Dubbed as the opening kick off to the Squidroidian football season, the Squidroidian Super Cup is a one-off competition held at the national stadium of Squidroidia, the Inkopolis City Stadium, between the previous season's winners of the Squidroidian Super League and the Squidroidian Cup. The defending Cup champions in Starlight Boulevard ended up having fitness in their corner as they beat the league champions in Real Squidroid at the pointless, yet still rewarding, one-off show. For Real, however, the story doesn't end here.

IFCF Challengers Cup Playoff Round

Leg 1

Real Squidroid CF 3-2 Letson Town (ETN)
Tower Park, Inkopolis, Squidroidia

Leg 2

Letson Town (ETN) 1-2 Real Squidroid CF
The Newton-Smith Arena, Letson, Ethane
Real Squidroid CF win 5-3 on aggregate

In fact, the story was far from over. A tricky tie against Ethanian side Letson Town was one of 2 things separating Los Squidroids and group stage football, primetime, sold out nights... A 3-2 win at Tower Park set up the team for an away leg in Letson. The only thing separating the team and the Qualifying Round was 90 minutes of explosive, flammable football at the Newton-Smith. 2-1 win away.

Real Squidroid CF are 2 games away from IFCF group stage football.

With that being said, how has Squidroidian football been shaken up?

The Jecken Squidroidian Super League

2023 - Part 1

The 2023 Squidroidian Super League season was to kick off at Tower Park, home of Los Squidroids, the defending league champions, as the holders of the Squidroidian Shield were going to show off to start a historic season for Inkopolis's "2nd team". It was a match where the pendulum was going to shift from orange and blue to black, magenta and green - IFC missed out on IFCF football, so they had some catching up to do. Shock Central's first game in the Super League was going to be a toughie.

Super League Kickoff
Real Squidroid CF 1–0 Souraoi FT
Amagawa Katsuyoshi '75 (RSQ) (Assisted by Akira Honda)

As the teams walked off of the pitch, Real had a lot more to look towards, even with the win. They would have to be here, on a Tuesday night, 180 minutes away from IFCF group stage football...

Calamari Wanderers CFC 0–1 Tyranny Sports Club
Cesarino Leblanc '89 (TSC) (Assisted by Kudo Atsumori)

Northport Meadows SC 0–2 Inkopolis FC
Morihei Nariaki '48 (IFC) (Assisted by Tachibana Tadakuni)
Cynthia Santini '56 (IFC) (Assisted by Takara Ashihei)

Spartansburg City 0–1 FC Squidroidia Squidbreak
Iwai Iemochi '48 (FCS) (Assisted by Shiba Tetsuo)

-

IFCF Challengers Cup Qualifying Round Leg 1

Real Squidroid CF 2-1 Langtree United (MRC)
Tower Park, Inkopolis, Squidroidia

90 minutes down, 90 to go. A leg won by a single goal at home isn't worth much, especially with Langtree United grabbing an away go. The atmosphere in the locker room is intense. The team needed to not look down away in Mercedini.

-

Matchday 2

Inkopolis FC 1–0 Spartansburg City
Tachibana Tadakuni '15 (IFC) (Assisted by Takara Ashihei)

Tyranny Sports Club 1–0 Northport Meadows SC
Shimabukuro Kiyoemon '55 (TSC) (Assisted by Applebee)

Souraoi FT 4–1 Calamari Wanderers CFC
Asa Eisen '10 '58 (SFT) (Assisted by Oe Shoraku and Nakajima Natsuo)
Erik Fry '26 (CAL) (Assisted by Gorou Satō)
Kuramoto Tashiro '66 (SFT) (Assisted by Yamagata Yoshitoshi)
Wok '83 (SFT) (Assisted by Teobaldo Robin)

Starlight Boulevard FC 2–0 Real Squidroid CF
Wakiya Seiryo '77 '83 (STB) (Assisted by Koga Nobusuke and Imaeda Shuzo)

-

IFCF Challengers Cup Qualifying Round Leg 2

Langtree United (MRC) 0-3 Real Squidroid CF
Langtree Metropolitan Stadium, Langtree, Mercedini
Real Squidroid CF win 5-1 on aggregate

The final whistle would blow in Mercedini when the game ended, but it felt like it blew a long time ago. The Real bench would pour out onto the pitch, yelling, screaming, filled with emotions of joy, relief and passion. For the 2nd time in Squidroidian history, a Super League side would go to the IFCF Challengers Cup group stage. McCrory, Katsuyoshi, Shingen, new signing Din... It was their time to shine.

-

The National Derby
FC Squidroidia Squidbreak 1–2 Inkopolis FC
Florianne Meeuwessen '21 (IFC) (Assisted by Wyoma Rampart)
Hirayama Kentaro '50 (FCS) (Assisted by Iwai Iemochi)
Tomislaw Radowić '72 (IFC) (Assisted by Kaede Hoshino)

A flying start for the Inklings was cemented in a huge derby win for IFC over their hated rivals in the Squidbreak. Even though the army team got back into the game at the start of the second half thanks to Kentaro, a corner kick converted by Inkling Florianne Meeuwessen was enough momentum to intimidate the Squidbreak and force mistakes from the side, with the cherry on top being Tomislaw Radowić's game winner, a 72nd minute strike for the Zeta Rekan. With this win the team would go top of the table, and rightfully so - They were 3 from 3 and perfect at the start. It feels like Real's shift wasn't going to happen after all.

FFI Liga dos Vencedores Qualifying Round Leg 1

Real Squidroid CF 3-4 Eendracht Garifunya (GAR)
Tower Park, Inkopolis, Squidroidia

Calamari Wanderers CFC 3-2 AC Pomena (JUE)
County Stadium, Calamari County, Squidroidia

FFI Taca das Confederacoes Qualifying Round Leg 1

Zeerovers Vrijport (GAR) 2-1 Starlight Boulevard FC
Vrijport, Garifunya

You know what they say, keep your friends close and your enemies closer... The FFI Qualifying Rounds kicked off and nobody seemed to be relatively okay, except if you're the Wanderers in which case you relatively did better than your other peers. All 3 games were decided by 1 goal margins, and it should be a tough 2nd leg once the teams get there, as Starlight are heading back home to see off Garifunyan team Zeerovers Vrijport and Real will have to go to Garifunya to welcome Eendracht in order to seal a fixture crunch that hadn't been seen before... And the Wanderers have to travel to Juvencus.

The Battle of Northport

Northport Meadows SC 4–3 Real Squidroid CF

Atsushi Morimoto '3 (NPT) (Assisted by Yamamoto Takashi)
Davey Shwartz '38 (NPT) (Assisted by Matsuo Masaharu)

Amagawa Katsuyoshi '77 (RSQ) (Assisted by Jan McCrory)
Kazetani Sadatake '83 (NPT) (Assisted by Atsushi Morimoto)
Ken Hayashi '90 (NPT) (Assisted by Matsuo Masaharu)

In a crucial early season game for the newly promoted team who hadn't scored a goal and the defending champions turned relegation candidates, Northport vs Real turned out to be a 7 goal thriller that would be good enough for the big screen in Inkopolis. The plucky underdogs from a small town would find their selves 2-0 up at halftime against the holders of the prized Squidroidian Shield, before chucking it away with 13 minutes to go, Katsuyoshi giving Real the lead after a sensational strike set up by the Footballer McFootballyface himself. 13 minutes, however, was enough time for the Herders to bounce back, ultimately giving super sub Ken Hayashi the game winning goal to win the so called Battle of Northport. Real now sit 7 points behind their cross-town rivals and 10 points back of the leaders, chained to the foot of the Super League. It seemed like they wouldn't get the title...

Spartansburg City 1–0 Starlight Boulevard FC

Garifunya
Real Squidroid CF win 5-4 on aggregate

AC Pomena (JUE) 1-1 Calamari Wanderers CFC
Pomena, Juvencus
Calamari Wanderers CFC win 4-3 on aggregate

FFI Taca das Confederacoes Qualifying Round Leg 2

Starlight Boulevard FC 0-2 Zeerovers Vrijport (GAR)
Sunrise Park, Starlight, Squidroidia
Zeerovers Vrijport (GAR) win 4-1 on aggregate

Once again Starlight fans were given a shocking reality - A team that lucked their way into a supposed triple duty of international competition was going to luck their way out of it in record time. A 2-0 loss to Zeerovers at home was enough to lock themselves out from the Taca. In the Liga, however, the domestically struggling Real Squidroid team would fight their way back against Eendracht to lock up severe fixture congestion with a 2-0 win. The Squidroidian FA looks at Real to see if they can bounce back with the main team playing internationally and a "B" team playing domestically. The Wanderers, of course, got out of Sonnel and Pomena with their heads held high, scraping a draw to get through without worrying about away goals. It was on for them.

The Jecken Squidroidian Super League

2023 - Part 3

Before jumping into the scores, we have to acknowledge that the group stage draws for the IFCF Challengers Cup and the FFI Liga dos Vencedores, right on the horizon for both Real and the Wanderers, have already happened. By this stage, Real have reverted to a "B" team for their domestic exploits, their main lineup being sent off to do double duty in the FFI Liga dos Vencedores and the Challengers Cup itself. The group Los Squidroids were placed in for the Challengers Cup is roughly a "Group of death" - Both Hondo FC from Valanora and Marque from Brenecia have to contend with the Laketown Rangers knocking them out, leaving Real to play a sort of fourth fiddle, knowing they will likely finish last in their group due to the tough competition lying ahead.

The Liga dos Vencedores has not been much kinder to them either. Their competition run starts with a home game against Terre Septentrionale champions Szczakowianka Trzebiegoszcz (That is a mouthful to anyone outside of there), before having to play, away, to defending Challengers Cup winners Megabrantid from the Squornshelan Remnant States who, mind you, are the nation hosting the Final this edition. And who did the Calamari Wanderers get, Calequén from Montana Verde? Porter City from Kohnhead? Real were handed a tough as nails group to fight themselves out of.

11 Goals in 90 Minutes

Ike Katai '63 '69 '73 (RSQ) (Assisted by Matt Hall (twice) and Saito Doppo)
Valary Noel '89 (FCS) (Assisted by Hirayama Kentaro)

Even with a "B" team Real still win the highest scoring game in the history of the Jecken Squidroidian Super League. Away from home, stuck at SAF Park, the B team does that. 3-1 to the home team via Snell became 3-6 just 25 minutes later, with Ike Katai bagging himself a hat trick... In 10 minutes. Another Super League record. 11 goals by the time the final whistle blue, a dragged out slugfest with chaos running through the veins of everyone playing. It might never be broken.

IFCF Challengers Cup Group H Matchday 1

Laketown Rangers (TAE) 1-1 Real Squidroid CF
Stadium on the Lake, Laketown, Taeshan

And so the journey begins for Los Squidroids, and they at the very least started off on the right foot, grabbing a draw at the ever so inspired Stadium On The Lake, sea of Taeshanis awaiting the Squidroidian champions. It was a hard fight, Katsuyoshi scoring Real's goal off of a low lying pass by McCrory, but it wasn't enough to get all 3 points. But still, what a way to start off the group stage for them. Onwards to the Liga dos Vencedores for Real Squidroid "A"!

The Inkopolis (FC Crushes Real) Derby

Real Squidroid CF 0–5 Inkopolis FC
Omar Swindlehurst '31 (IFC) (Assited by Takara Ashihei)

Wyoma Rampart '38 (IFC) (Assisted by Omar Swindlehurst)
Tachibana Tadakuni '89 (IFC) (Assisted by Tomislaw Radowić)

Of course, the "B" team had to fall down to solid ground eventually. "Returning" from Taeshan, a reserve side rotated in to alieviate the stress caused by that Challengers Cup draw away from home was obliterated by their crosstown rivals by a scoreline of 5 goals to 0. Putting Swindlehurst in ahead of an aging Jo Jun was a wise decision by the Inkopolis FC manager, as he scored the opening goal in the derby and lofted a cross to a charging Wyoma Rampart 7 minutes later, just after Ashihei grabbed his first goal in the game, ultimately gaining man of the match status with the assist to Swindlehurst piled on top. The tide was turning again in Inkopolis...

FFI Liga dos Vencedores Group Stage Matchday 1

Group C
Calamari Wanderers CFC 2-1 Porter City (KHD)
County Stadium, Calamari County, Squidroidia

Group E
Real Squidroid CF 5-2 Szczakowianka Trzebiegoszcz (RTS)
Tower Park, Inkopolis, Squidroidia

It seemed like the Real main team were kicking into high gear after their warmup against Laketown Rangers. Returning to Tower Park, scars very much fresh from the Inkopolis Derby, they seemed to tell Inkopolis FC supporters something - To shut up. 5 goals were put up for them and the Terre Septentrionale team that's so long that the FFI groups have to abbreviate their name (I just call them Kowianka). This was very much working in the eyes of Real, and hopefully tries to convince the SFA to change their mind... Maybe it'll solidify after Megabrantid away.

As for the Calamari Wanderers, they got off to a flying start too against Kohnhead's Porter City, although it was very close, closer than the Real game that would happen the day afterwards. Both teams start off life top of their groups, but it was not done yet...

Slaughteropolis FC

Inkopolis FC 6–2 Calamari Wanderers CFC
Kaede Hoshino '16 '63 (IFC) (Assisted by Wyoma Rampart and Alafi Budam)

Henriette Brooks '55 (CAL) (Assisted by Alta Goforth)
Tomatsu Kane '59 (IFC) (Assisted by Omar Swindlehurst)
Takara Ashihei '87 (IFC) (Assisted by Wyoma Rampart)

11 goals in 2 matches. Like a steamroller crushing their rivals, Inkopolis FC, the Inklings themselves, dealt the Wanderers a huge blow in the confines of Inkopolis City Stadium. It seemed like it wasn't a coincidence that the team was scoring like this heading into the end of the first quarter of the season - A rapid fire attack seemed to do just enough damage to cripple teams up and down the table. It will be interesting to see how they handle the next portion of the season and if they could keep this up to mount a title charge.

The Jecken Squidroidian Super League

2023 - Part 4

IFCF Challengers Cup Group H Matchday 2

Real Squidroid CF 1-2 Hondo FC (VAL)
Tower Park, Inkopolis, Squidroidia

The A team would return to Thursday night action at the capital of Inkopolis hosting one of the premier football teams in one of the biggest leagues in world football - The Elven Premier League's Hondo FC. They weren't no Raynor City United, who had 5 Champions Cups during the UICA era to their name, one of only 2 clubs (Alongside the defunct Yuba United who won 6) to have the UICA star on their badge, however. Real, on the other hand, didn't even have a normal gold star yet, and they would lose a close one against Hondo. For the most part, this whole separating thing was working out wonders when it came to their results against bigger, more established teams - Losing a close game against a team like Hondo, drawing against Laketown and working wonders in the LdV. Now how were the B team doing?

FFI Liga dos Vencedores Group Stage Matchday 1

Group C
Blue Strike Zoloroni (MRC) 0-1 Calamari Wanderers CFC
Pabana Avenida, Zoloroni, Mercedini

Group E
Megabrantid SC (SRS) 0-1 Real Squidroid CF
Megabrantid Financial Field, Brantisvogan, Megabrantis, Squornshelan Remnant States

It was a week to remember when it came to big clashes against huge outfits from teams far above the stature of say, an in-form Calamari Wanderers team during their IFCF run a couple years back. Both teams were playing away from home - The Flying Squids were playing against Blue Strike, who shot up the Mercedinian ranks in recent years and just won the MPL last season, in Zoloroni, while Real were having to contend with the defending Challengers Cup titleholders in Megabrantid SC. And yet, despite the advantage both teams had against the outfits from Squidroidia, they would both fall 1 goal to 0 in what, in many ways, were considered "upsets", although in Megabrantid's case they were focusing more on the Champions League than this old fashioned "Liga dos Vencedores" competition. But still, a win is a win, and both teams sat top of their groups.

IFCF Challengers Cup Group H Matchday 3

Marque (BRE) 0-0 Real Squidroid CF
Privateer Arena, Marque, Brenecia

Even though Real's halfway point was still a poultry 2 points after the draw away from home against Marque from Brenecia, who again, like Hondo before were no (Insert big club here), aka Northern Union, 2 points was more than what they expected from these tough first few games - Some people were probably saying that they would get 0 points at the halfway mark. A compelling theory, until you realize that virtually nobody gets 0 points in a group stage at the highest level. Now Squidroidian teams were getting consistent results, away from home might I add, against these big big clubs, and that started to get to the heads of the SFA that a move was likely, or even going to happen regardless of how Real and CW did in international competitions - The proof was here.

-

The National Derby

Inkopolis FC 0–1 FC Squidroidia Squidbreak
Hirayama Kentaro '73 (FCS) (Assisted by Kichirō Saitou)

The Squidbreak were starting to get into a tailspin. Before the National Derby even kicked off for round 2 of the 4 round affair between Inkopolis and the army team, the team were turning terribad, but at the very least they took the time off from that horrid loss to Spartansburg City to reconvene and rest up for what was going to be a crucial derby when it came to sheer survival in the top flight or even at all. That passion, that willingness to try to succeed and right the sinking ship payed off in the best way the team could have ever asked for - 3 points off of 1 strike from Kentaro. The problem now? They were still dead last. If the season ended today they would be relegated, as they still sit 7 points behind Tyranny. It was going to be tough, but anything is possible in the Super League.

The Jecken Squidroidian Super League

2023 - Part 5

FFI Liga dos Vencedores Group Stage Matchday 3

Group C
Calequén (MVE) 1-4 Calamari Wanderers CFC
Calequén, Montana Verde

Group E
Real Squidroid CF 3-1 Pesetih Titih (PCU)
Tower Park, Inkopolis, Squidroidia

At the halfway point, both Squidroidian clubs still in the hunt for Independent Gold were given relatively tame opposition - Away from home the Wanderers would go and slide 4 past Montana Verde league champions Calequén, sending out a slightly rotated team from the game against Blue Strike Zoloroni in the previous matchday. A little rotation didn't hurt in the green mountains, but no rotations also worked for Real, beating Pemecutan powerhouses Pesetih Titih 3-1 at home. At the halfway point of the group stage both teams were, relatively speaking, hot, having won all of their games up until this point. Smooth sailing from here?

Calamari Wanderers CFC 0–1 Real Squidroid CF
Matt Hall '54 (RSQ) (Assisted by Yoichi Shigeko)

-

IFCF Challengers Cup Group H Matchday 4

Real Squidroid CF 3-3 Marque (BRE)
Tower Park, Inkopolis, Squidroidia

...Oh goodness me. A draw at home? The last 2 draws for Real were away from home, so seeing the team draw at home against this high caliber of opponent like Marque is a sign, a sign that, probably, a win was on the cards as Real would soon welcome the Laketown Rangers. But nothing is for certain - This is football after all, so long as you try your best you may pull off at least a result against these opponents that are pushing you into a hole you are unable to escape from. This Marque game was a sign that they can pull off results, so long if the timing is right.

Matchday 14

Real Squidroid CF 4–0 Northport Meadows SC
Amagawa Katsuyoshi '2 (RSQ) (Assisted by Yoichi Shigeko)

Souraoi FT 1–0 FC Squidroidia Squidbreak
Yamagata Yoshitoshi '39 (SFT) (Assisted by Watase Sotan)

Tyranny Sports Club 1–3 Inkopolis FC
Tomatsu Kane '26 (IFC) (Assisted by Orestis Kalyvas)
Morihei Nariaki '51 (IFC) (Assisted by Takara Ashihei)
Tachibana Tadakuni '67 (IFC) (Assisted by Tomatsu Kane)
Tengan Takesi '85 (TSC) (Assisted by Shingo Tsukuda)

-

FFI Liga dos Vencedores Group Stage Matchday 4

Group C
Calamari Wanderers CFC 0-1 Calequén (MVE)
County Stadium, Calamari County, Squidroidia

Group E
Pesetih Titih (PCU) 2-2 Real Squidroid CF
Titih, Pemecutan

There were going to be some bumps in the road of course. Nobody was going to stay on top forever, and in the FFI, both teams would hit snags. Let's discuss the elephant in the room here - The Wanderers lost to the champions of Montana Verde... AT HOME. 3 points down the drain in what has to be an embarrassing result for a team like them. It seemed like the mountainous terrain in Montana Verde was making them more suitable for games abroad, how else would one explain this? As for Real, they were handed a drop in form too in the form of drawing to Pesetih. For them at least, they might as well book the ticket to the Last 16.

The Jecken Squidroidian Super League

2023 - Part 6

IFCF Challengers Cup Group H Matchday 5

Real Squidroid CF 0-3 Laketown Rangers (TAE)
Tower Park, Inkopolis, Squidroidia

And that's the death nail. With a loss to the Laketown Rangers at home, Los Squidroids finally have some room to breathe. You know, some room to get back into the hunt for Super League glory and whatnot. Although they had Hondo away to truly end the Challengers Cup run they set up back in San Ortelio, the campaign, and any chance of getting to the Round of 32, was gone. 3 points from 5 games and almost certainly last. But the IFCF campaign for Squidroidian clubs wasn't over yet, oh no...

-

IFCF Cup Winners Cup Preliminary Round First Leg

Starlight Boulevard FC 2-6 FC Teussen Stelburg (STL)
Sunrise Park, Starlight, Squidroidia

...Cue Mr. Krabs.

-

Matchday 16

Calamari Wanderers CFC 2–1 Spartansburg City
Noyamano Yasutoki '3 (CAL) (Assisted by Henriette Brooks)
Francine Boerefijn '37 (STB) (Assisted by Hoga Kiyomasu)
Terada Tokutomi '56 (CAL) (Assisted by Haru Kitagawa)

Real Squidroid CF 0–1 FC Squidroidia Squidbreak
Tommy Oorschot '32 (FCS) (Assisted by Iwai Iemochi)

Starlight Boulevard FC 0–1 Inkopolis FC
Tomislaw Radowić '34 (IFC) (Assisted by Morihei Nariaki)

Souraoi FT 0–0 Tyranny Sports Club

-

FFI Liga dos Vencedores Group Stage Matchday 5

Group C
Porter City (KHD) 0-1 Calamari Wanderers CFC
Porter City, Kohnhead

Group E
Szczakowianka Trzebiegoszcz (RTS) 1-2 Real Squidroid CF
Stadion Hydro-Polnocna, Trzebiegoszcz, Kanton Pomorze, Terre Septentrionale

And now back to our regularly scheduled programing that is "Wanderers and Real take turns beating the heck out of Indie clubs". With both teams qualified for the knockout stage of the Liga dos Vencedores by now, even with their slipups on Matchday 4 considered, there was no need for beating around the bush, but in typical Squidroidian fashion they did the opposite - Both away ties, the 2 squids would end up on top and essentially confirm their group victories. But for Real, the Szczakowianka win was more important to them, as the team would end up rotating their players to rest their legs for what would end up being a top of the league derby showdown...

-

The Inkopolis (FC Does It Again) Derby

Inkopolis FC 6–0 Real Squidroid CF
Wyoma Rampart '5 '24 '72 (IFC) (Assisted by Florianne Meeuwessen, Jo Jun and Kaede Hoshino)
Tachibana Tadakuni '37 '64 (IFC) (Assisted by Tomislaw Radowić and Jo Jun)
Morihei Nariaki '56 (IFC) (Assisted by Tomislaw Radowić)

...Losing 6-0. It was like the 5-0 drubbing at home never left them. For Real this was essentially adding up to a reality check - They couldn't let IFC destroy them again if they wanted to repeat as champions of Squidroidia. It might also be because of Los Squidroids being cocky as well - Once again the legs of the top players weren't rested well enough, and the "B" team did all the work for them as they waited for the next game on the fixture list. This is what the SFA expected when Real did double duty - Them being blown out of the water by their hated rivals TWICE. Sometimes chaos is what hurts you.

Tyranny Sports Club 1–1 Starlight Boulevard FC
Saito Suzu '17 (SLB) (Assisted by Ohta Sorai)
Applebee '44 (TSC) (Assisted by Kudo Atsumori)

FC Squidroidia Squidbreak 3–0 Calamari Wanderers CFC
Kichirō Saitou '2 (FCS) (Assisted by Valary Noel)
Handa Kazuo '6 (FCS) (Assisted by Hirayama Kentaro)
Rikimaru Keiji '54 (FCS) (Assisted by Kichirō Saitou)

Spartansburg City 1–1 Northport Meadows SC
Uramoto Ryu '52 (STB) (Assisted by Moto Yamato)
Kazetani Sadatake '75 (NPT) (Assisted by Sora Inoue)

IFCF Challengers Cup Group H Matchday 6
Hondo FC (VAL) 3-3 Real Squidroid CF
Raynor Memorial Stadium, Hondo, Valanora

With the final whistle blowing at Raynor Memorial after a fantastic game of football between Hondo and Los Squidroids, the campaign was over for the Squidroidian club. Looking back on the run they made, from Pesari to Marque, Navel Island to Laketown, Bezieres to Hondo and Letson and Langtree in between... The itinerary was a worthy one for such a run to the Challengers Cup group. Although they will be remembered in the books as not going as good as the Wanderers when they made the groups 2 seasons ago, the sheer fact that they got to the Third Preliminary Round of the Champions League and were one goal away from the Playoff Round is not to be understated. With the right team and the right path, maybe a Squidroidian club will make the Champions League groups... Maybe, one day, the trophy may be toured around Inkopolis... Such things are a pipedream, but they may be doable soon enough.

-

IFCF Cup Winners Cup Preliminary Round Second Leg

FC Teussen Stelburg (STL) 1-0 Starlight Boulevard FC
Franz-Gorz-Stadion, Stelburg, Siovanija and Teusland
FC Teussen Stelburg (STL) win 7-2 on aggregate

There, silence them! Silence Starlight and get them back to what really matters... NOT THE CUP WINNERS CUP!

On second thought, they should have saw this coming. Beating 1912 was one thing... Beating Teussen is another.

The Halfway Point

Even with half of the fixtures played in the Super League, the title race is a Super League trademark in itself - Tight. Thanks to their win in the Inkopolis Derby, the Inkopolis Football Club, with Golden Boot leading Tachibana Tadakuni manning their attack alongside an in-form Tomislaw Radowić just behind him, sit 2 points ahead of their city rivals Real with an astonishing +19 goal differential and 11 goals conceded all season so far, only behind Starlight Boulevard and their Golden Glove leading shotstopper Kaede Akiyama in the Super League. Behind Los Squidroids by 2 points are the Calamari Wanderers occupying the Taca das Confederacoes spot in 3rd, with Terada Tokutomi having scored 5 so far. In the final Challengers Cup spot is the aforementioned Starlight, Wakiya Seiryo is leading the charge of goals over there.

Outside of the top 4 there's a mad dash just to break in - Yes, Bee and Kie for Tyranny haven't done well so far, but they sit just outside the top 4 by a point, although goal difference is not on their side. Once again, like the first Super League Season, the Squidbreak are having a hard time - They sit 6th and even fiddled in the bottom spot for a bit even though they won the National Derby, and are a point ahead of Souraoi. The bottom 2 are, no surprises really, Spartansburg and Northport, the former 4 points off from safety and the latter 10 points off IFCF football. Plenty of football, of course, is still yet to be played.
