CHAPTER 10
2 OUT OF 2

Hemat Darwisa was the first player from Eraman to take on the court. His opponent was Tasya Han from Filindostan. It was not particularly an easy match for Hemat Darwisa but he made it through by winning the match on straight-set, 7-6, 6-4.

Hemat Darwisa then took on the court again in the double with new Eraman tennis darling, Batera Siwara to play Todd Richardson and Victoria Tran from The Andromeda Island Group.

The Eraman duo didn't disappoint and won the match on 3 sets, 6-3, 6-7 and 6-3 to make it 2 out of 2 for Eraman and Hemat Darwisa in the opening round of the Championnats Nationaux de Recuecn de Tennis.

Hemat Darwisa will join Batera Siwara and the twin princess in the next round to play Felice Mareaux from Neu Engollon. The much-awaited match, however, is between Batera Siwara and Daniel Cervantes from Aqual because Eramanians are eager to see the Istria Open semifinalist performance against the big boys.

Excitement Builds as Big Hitters Return in Beconailles

MFO SPORT

The NSTT returns with vigour in Reçueçn as the second tier-one tournament of the year and the first of the clay swing begins.
With tier-2 tournaments book-ending the break between the hard and clay seasons, it's been a while since the top players last made an appearance. Included in those is Dominika Lisicki, who has only played at two tournaments so far this year, but won one and reached the quarter-finals in the other to elevate herself to world number one. Dewa Putu Adrian Putra, now world number two after a win in Kinterten, also returns and will have his eyes on top spot.
The potential is there for a real duel between the experienced, but rejuvenated Lisicki and the young star from Pemecutan. Both enjoy playing on clay and will be firm favourites to reach the latter stages of the upcoming tournaments with many of the top 10 more set up for hard courts.

That of course, assumes a relative newcomer won't emerge from nowhere and make a name for themself. 30 different nations are sending players to Hamilton for the clay-court slam and many of those have debutants playing in Reçueçn and Mattijana. With so many unfamiliar faces and game styles from around the multiverse arriving on a surface that can facilitate a skilful, awkward game, there is room for a few shocks and surprises.

The tournament format in Reçueçn may also facilitate some surprise results. New players will face qualifying and preliminary rounds before facing the really big guns, allowing them to build up some momentum. The advantage for the likes of Lisicki is that they get the chance to take a look at their fresh-faced opponents before having to play them.

With much to think about as the Mattijanans move from a successful hard court season onto what most see as their home surface, tennis correspondent Jasmina Dulic spoke to chief selector and former NSTT player Alex Dimitrov to get his views on the state of Mattijanan tennis.

"First of all, congratulations on a great hard court season. I think it's probably silly to ask what was most pleasing about it, but how do you see the squad ahead of the clay swing?"

"Thank you. It was a really good start to the new season for us. Of course to get two wins out of three in the singles tournaments was really special. We knew we had the quality to go deep into some of those tournaments, but to really hit the ground running and take those titles was far above what we'd expected. There's obviously a lot of confidence in the squad now - we've got a player in Dominika who's world number one and playing the best tennis of her life and another top 10 player in Mattias Burges - but there's a lot more expectation as well, especially on clay and especially now we've got the opportunity to play in front of our own fans, so we'll have to be ready for that, particularly in Burges."

"How much to you think that was down to the squad's hard work during the break?"

"I think that played a massive part, particularly for Dominika. She worked really hard over the break to introduce not only the extra power, but the precision and consistency that you need to go with it, so she really used that time to not only try and improve her game, but change it in a way that's really worked well for her."

"And Mattias Burges as well. A little bit of a slow start from him, but he really found his feet in Steinigestrasse"

Yes, he's a really experienced player for us and one who wasn't a stranger to the training court either during the break. Clearly the fast courts in Electrum didn't particularly suit him and he was carrying a bit of a knock during that tournament, but he worked really hard to get fit and to improve his game for Steinigestrasse and we were really impressed with the way he played there. He's someone who adds a lot to the squad beyond his own tennis in providing a calm head and a really good example of the work ethic needed to do well in the NSTT, so we're delighted that he's getting the performances to go with that."

"Mattijana's strength in depth has always been an issue and that's under scrutiny again at the moment. How do you plan to go about improving that?"

"It's certainly been a pretty tough start to the season for some of our other players, but we've got to remember these are still young players and we've got to expect some inconsistency. Sami Dominikanov showed some good promise in Electrum and got unlucky with the way the draw panned out and Maria's struggled a bit for form, but we've got a few new players coming through to replace Aljaz Corluka and to let players stick to their preferred formats. It's a long term project for them, we've always been keen on giving youth a chance and hopefully we'll reap the rewards of that soon. Dominika's got some time left to run on her career, but Mattias Burges isn't going to be around for too much longer, so it's up to us to not only find replacements, but also to get them ready to take the place of our more experienced players so we don't have large fallow periods where we only have one or two players within the top 50s."

"Maria Julenic had another disappointing result today, does that hand Ajla Vesnic the final spot for Burges?"

"That's obviously the decision we've got to make. We'll see how Ajla gets on in the Championats, but she's clearly an exciting young player and if she shows she's in form, we'll give her the slot in Burges. Maria's a great player and we know what she can do. If we agree that she needs some time out to work out what's going on, we'll give it to her, but all players have their poor runs of form and she's lost a lot of tight matches, so she's not as far away from finding some good results as it looks. We'll certainly be seeing her in the Mattijanan team again, I've got no doubt about that."

Our interview with chief selector Alex Dimitrov continues tomorrow...

Among the players to represent Springmont in the Championnats Nationaux de Reçueçn de Tennis arena are Carlos Thirdspade and Maria Crown. They are the product of the Kingfisher Tennis Club Youth Academy. The Kingfisher Tennis Club Youth Academy is well known for its excellent development and training system in Springmont.

The owner of Kingfisher Tennis Club, Alfred Fields, is aware that to be competitive in the tennis industry over the long term, clubs need to have their own academy. The tennis academy project is a long-term project and for that reason, a club needs to be financially stable and manageable as well as a good player's future plan.

The tennis academy should act like a university where every student out there gets a job and in the context of tennis - coaches will have a place to play in any team with their guaranteed welfare. Thus players will remain focused on their tasks and do not have to think about finding a part-time job for the sake of survival due to the financial constraints of the team they join. This will affect the morale of the players who are being referred to as future state legends.

The establishment of the Kingfisher Tennis Club Academy is carefully planned with the expertise of former international players. They not only provide insights on 'set-ups' but also provide their experience in tennis development. Former national player Roland Ghaffur also supported the club. He also thinks the training held at the Kingfisher Tennis Club Academy is organized and meets the needs of modern tennis and among the best in the region. To guide young players, completing training centers that meet international standards play a vital role and at Kingfisher Tennis Club Academy everything is complete from grassroots to senior.

Now the Kingfisher Tennis Club Academy is thriving with the best young players nationwide. Success for the success of the Kingfisher Tennis Club Academy team illustrates the success of the module being implemented.

Later that evening, as I sat at my desk, a text came in from a friend:

The pair didn't do great in the NSTT. Görög and Van Der Beek's struggles are evident in the video and they seem to be unmotivated at practice. It's a shame. They are hoping to do well again. I can't wait to see them improve.

They were telling me they felt they have done only worse after their silver medal finish at the XIII Olympics. They couldn't just mesh together during training. Achieving synergy was evidently getting tougher. On the flip side, I'm glad to see they're not giving up after their loss. They're going to push each other. They're trying to view it as a great opportunity for them to learn, and I wish them the best.

Princess Katrina trip to Reçueçn part 1

The private plane from Sharktail has safely landed in Reçueçn airport. Normally in Sharktail, the private plane used by the royal family and Prime Minister. Princess Karina comes out from the plane. Same as the last time she did not come alone. Her personal maid Luna follow her. This time she comes with her sister, Princess Alia. Even so, seem like she is the only one who excited to come here. Princess Alia seems uneasy. she just being dragged to tag alone with Princess Karina. If it isn't the order from her mother, she may not come along today. They take a taxi and go straight to their hotel.

After done with the check-in, they enter their room. Princess Alia sits on the crouch and opens her phone. Princess Karina comes and sits in front of her. Princess Karina looks at Princess Alia. She smiles at her.

PK: Hey sis, is really good here, isn't it?

PA: (She seem not listening to what Princess Karina said).Ah...yes it really good.

PK: Are you okay? You seem doesn't like to be here.

PA: No, it not like that.

PK: I sorry. I keep dragging all of you. I just love tennis but I not allowed to come here alone.
(seem to cry).

PA: (She feels bad).No no, its nothing really. You don't need to think like that.

PK: But last time when I come with my brother he seems to be a bit bored and you seem lost today. Did you and brother just smile to let me feel happy?

PA: (she remain silent, she doesn't know how to respond). Hey Karina, don't cry. Ok you may be true I seem bored but it does not mean I don't like to be here.

PK: So why you act like that?

PA: You know when you older, you will have more responsibility especially when we are royalty. I just thinking about it.

PK: Does it have something to do with your schedule?

PA: Not really, you know sometimes I can resign not to do or change for someone else. I also want to have some funs.

PK: So you really are happy to come here?

PA:( Smile) Of course I'm happy. Not just I can have fun but also I can see my friend Putri Sekar laut and Putti Mekar laut.

PK: I have them once. Robert introduced me to them.

PA: Yeah Robert has told me about that. Seem like they have still competed for next round.

PK: Waah really. Good for them. How about our player?

PA: If I not mistaken, Syamim gets a bye and straight qualify to the round of 64. I think he is seeded. Luna, do you know what his seeded number? And do you know the past result?

Luna: Let me check. it 10 princesses. For the past result after Diana Jansen out in qualifying round, Haikal Jansen, Naim Alex also our two pair of double still in the tournament. They won last night.

PK: Wow it means we still have 3 single and 2 double left.Good news.

PA: Yup good news to hear but remember today will be harder.

PK: Hey sis, how many do you think will stay?

PA: Syamim may pass to the next round. Naim Alex, I hear he doing good in Istria so maybe he can go on. For Haikal facing 11 seeded seem a bit impossible.

PK: How about our double?

PA: Hmm...Luna, what their matchup?

Luna: Izzat and George will facing 11 seeded while Bahari and Diana will have a matchup with 8th seeded.

PK: Ah really hard. Will they win?

PA: We don't know the result until the match end, remember Istria how suprise and shock result keep happening. Let just hope they done good tomorrow. If we have a representive next round it will be great.

PK: Right. Ok, sis. Oh sorry, make you feel bads earlier.

PA: (smile) want to go around together? You come to Luna.

PK: Sure let's go, sis.

Luna: Sure Princess.

The Bristol Hotel
Beçonailles, Recucen
The Evening Before the Round of 64

After a few disappointing days, only Kendra Jackson remains in the singles draw, due to getting a bye through the preliminary rounds. With the other Andromedans out of the tournament, she has tried to stay focused on her match tomorrow against Mattias Burges of Mattijana.

She spent much of the morning playing a practice match with Victoria Tran. Tran isn’t an especially good singles player, but she gave Jackson a few pointers in between games. Tran and Jackson also engaged in a lot of trash talk that would normally not be allowed in tennis matches.

Jackson normally spent the evening before a match with a light dinner and a book. This evening, as neither Catherine James or Heather Long had any plans, a few of them came over to her hotel room and started talking. Their conversation lasted through dinner, provided by room service. It was still relatively early.

“You know,” Catherine James initiated the inevitable conversation. “They’ve got it in for us.”

“Yes, us and the nearly 50 other singles players that got eliminated,” Heather Long retorted.

“No, you don’t understand. I was talking with John Galt…”

“You were talking with Little Johnny Galt?”

“No, his uncle, former Andromedan #1 tennis player, former Ambassador John Galt.”

“Wait, isn’t he married?” Kendra Jackson’s older sister, also a former tennis player, was in a relationship with the older John Galt before he was married.

“The point is, He used to be an Ambassador before he was elected to the Assembly, and he thinks that these countries have it in for us.”

“You mean that the tournament is specifically rigged against us?”

“All I can tell you is what John told me. He’s talked with some of these diplomats in these conferences and… the stories alone Kendra would turn you white.”

“Example?”

“Well, he started talking with a diplomat from The Huskar Social Union and, out of the blue, the guy starts cursing at him, over nothing.”

“John Galt isn’t the friendliest person I’ve ever met,” Long adds. “At least, not with me.”

“But this guy, one minute they’re engaging in small talk, and the next he’s flamebaiting, asking ‘Who is John Galt?’”

“So, needless to say, they aren’t a guest in Embassy Row,” Jackson laughs.

“And there were these fake monk types who were with this outfit called Jedi Council. They criticized everything about the reception. After a while, Galt just told them, ‘If you keep being so critical about how we do things, I’ll tell you where you can go.’”

“Actually, I was at one of these diplomatic soirees they have in Andromeda City,” Long intimates. “And there were these couriers from Kanaap or Thermodolia, or maybe one from each, but speaking to them, they didn’t seem to know much about diplomacy.”

“What do you mean?”

“First of all, they were talking about the next election in one of their home countries and they were talking about voting for a third-party candidate. Now, I’m a Green. I support the environment, but if voting green means swinging my district from Social Democrat to Conservative, then I’d rather vote for the Social Democrat and get something instead of voting for someone with no chance of winning and getting a Conservative who thinks that climate change is a hoax.”

“But they didn’t understand that?” Kendra Jackson already knew the answer.

“Apparently they graduated from the Freddy Mercury School of Diplomacy. They want it all and they want it now.”

“Sounds pretty smug to me,” James adds.

“Just a minute. None of those countries are represented here, so there’s no proof of anything other than us being inexperienced with this level of competition. Am I right?”

“Yeah,” James and Long say in unison.

Jackson checks her alarm clock.

“Ladies, I’m sure you mean well, but I’ve got to represent tomorrow and you’re about to interfere with my spiritual oneness.”

James and Long both respected Jackson’s boundaries. But before they left, Long decided to invite Jackson on a little field trip after her match.

“After the match, a bunch of us are going to that pastry shop. Win or lose, are you in?”

“If I win, I’m in.”

“And if you lose?”

“I guess I’m in, win or lose.”

“And Kendra… good luck.”

“Thanks.”

As Heather Long closed the door, Jackson never thought she’d ever hear Long wish her good luck before a match.

DEUCE: Prelims Provided, Indeed

Postby TJUN-ia » Mon Jun 22, 2020 7:40 am

Beçonailles in Recuecn had already seen some drama, but now came the Preliminary Round. This is where the rest of the unseeded players joined in the fun and duelled for a match-up against a seeded opponent tomorrow. 2 TJUN-ian players turned up for the first time while another played his 2nd match. But how did everyone do?

DOUBLES
For a change (as we don't have doubles action tomorrow), we'll start in the Doubles. Shinji Makauchi and Felipe de la Rosa both had 2 games today, so they were quite busy. Kencana's Azam Bestari and Amina Wira were the opponents, but the players from the puppet of Eraman didn't provide too much of a challenge. Samurai Shinji and El Matador took set 1 6-4, before cruising in Set 2 to book their tickets in the Round of 32 in 2 days time. Their opponents will be Javier Carrasco and Tomas de Torquemada, the 15th seeds from Big Carencia. Not sure who they are, but they will certainly provide a challenge.

Shinji Makauchi/Felipe de la Rosa bt Azam Bestari/Amina Wira (KNC) (6-4, 6-1)

SINGLES
Now onto the singles, where The Cowboy was up against one of TJUN-ian Tennis' biggest foes thus far. Austin McDanielson was playing Theresa Waterford from Kohnhead, who has beaten both Jean van de Kloor and Samurai Shinji in the past. However, to everyone's surprise, The Cowboy was imperious. Facing off against someone of the opposite sex, Austin didn't flinch and won in straight sets. It would appear as though he has lost that cockiness that faulted him at the Electrum Slam. Whether that was lost on his own or (as many online believe) that it was honed in by Valentina Spetsova is down to debate. But whatever the reasoning, The Cowboy is certainly here to make his mark. His opponent tomorrow will be an Electrumite, in the form of 12th seed Andrew Simmons. Tomorrow is certainly going to be interesting for the pride of the Amerika Peninsula.

Austin McDanielson [Q] bt Theresa Waterford (KHD) (6-3, 6-1)

Now back to Samurai Shinji. His singles match-up was against Katelyn Barnes of Croblade (or Boda, depending on who you ask) and it certainly looked like smooth sailing from the get-go. Barnes was struggling to get anything from Makauchi, who took the set 6-1. But then she did in Set 2 and things got really competitive. It came to the wire and it took a late break for Shinji to win the set and the match. Barnes certainly tried but she couldn't overcome the odds. Samurai Shinji moves on to take on Antonio Valero, the 26th seed from Christos. It will be interesting to see how Makauchi does aginst the returning Valero.

Shinji Makauchi bt Katelyn Barnes (CRB) (6-1, 7-5)

And finally, the Award for Match of The Day (involving TJUN-ian Players) goes to El Matador. He took on Maria Crown of Springmont, who would provide great opposition. The first set was very tight from the off, as both players wanted to prove their points. El Matador just about got the better of his opponent to take their first set 7-4, buy Maria would bounce back. Hard. Crown took the advantage quickly and never looked back to take the second set 6-3. So, Set 3 it is. both players shocked for any advantage on the clay surface they played on, but it would be El Matador who finally broke through to win the set and the match. Full props have to go to Crown, who played her heart out but ultimately came just short. She might be another to look out for in the future. Felipe will get the opportunity to play the other Waterford from Kohnhead - 9th seed Mindy, who might be the better of the two. The Cowboy took down one, so can El Matador take the other? We'll have to wait and see...

Felipe de la Rosa (TJU) bt Maria Crown (SPM) (7-5, 3-6, 6-4)

Disaster in Reçueçn for Kohnhead

Coming into today's four matches, I had thought three of them were easy wins, that was clearly not the case as three of our four singles players went down. While fortunately this is not a Grand Slam, this is still very bad for all.

Theresa Waterford (KHD) 3 1
Austin McDanielson (TJU) 6 6

Theresa Waterford was coming off of a semifinal loss at Istria and was ranked 24th in the world. McDanielson also known as The Cowboy is ranked 88th and did very poorly at Istria. Yet Waterford wins a combined three games in a two set rout. Now maybe it was deserved as Waterford has beaten multiple players from TJUN-ia including a big upset at Kinterten. But still this was just shocking for me. Hopefully Waterford can bounce back in Mattijana at the Mattijana Open and regain her confidence and composure before Hamilton.

Taylor Bates (CSE) 7 6
Rodrick Uppatin (KHD) 6 4

Taylor Bates from Christos is ranked higher than Uppatin, yet Uppatin looked good in the qualifiers so I thought this was winnable, and to Uppatin's credit he played her very well. Uppatin will hope to improve upon his performance in the next tier 1 tournament, which will be only his second tier 1 ever.

Bartholomew Pole (KHD) 5 6 4
Acteus Linna (DCS) 7 2 6

This result was also SHOCKING to me. Acteus Linna playing in her first tournament was a major underdog against Pole, and yet Pole lost in three sets. Now granted he lost the first set 7 games to 5 and the third 6 games to 4. But still I expected Pole to have an easy win in this match and yet besides the second set he looked pretty bad. I have heard the rumors that Chad Cilsertin might be replacing Bartholomew at Mattijana and I hope not but if he keeps playing like this there's a pretty good shot.

Riley Dovatin/Melissa Turnface (KHD) 6 6
Lemond Kames/Perry Patos (SAP) 2 4

Finally the only good news of the day. Dovatin and Turnface easily defeated Kames and Patos from newcomer Solarampa. This was their first tournament and unlike Pole, Dovatin and Turnface easily beat the out matched opponent. They will take on Sonya Gredello and Rosa Levinsky from Electrum and will be the heavy underdogs.

As for the one match up tomorrow Mindy Waterford, the number 9 at this tournament will take on someone from TJUN-ia the country that is becoming our biggest rival as she will hopefully beat Felipe de la Rosa known as El Matador. Please bring something good out of this tournament Mindy.

CHAPTER 11
MARCHING ON

It was an early flight home again for Eraman's number four tennis player, Hemat Darwisa as he crashed out in the second day from both singles and doubles of the Championnats Nationaux de Recuecn de Tennis.

Hemat Darwisa lost to Felice Mareaux from Neu Engollon in a hard-fought match, 7-5, 4-6 and 6-1. By the third set, Hemat Darwisa was struggling with fatigue having to play in both singles and doubles.

He took the court again with Batera Siwara to play Arthur Leloup and Hildebrant Weisgerber from Recuecn in the doubles. Playing in front of their supporters, Arthur and Hildebrant didn't disappoint by beating the Eraman duo easily, 6-3, 7-5.

The rest of Eraman's contingent to Recuecn though have no problem progressing to the next round including Hemat's partner in double, the new Eraman tennis darling, Batera Siwara.

Batera Siwara looked nervous when he took on the court, probably partly because of the weight put on his shoulder to carry Eraman's flag as far as he can. His opponent, Daniel Cervantes from Aqual put up a tough challenge and forced the game into the third set. Batera Siwara won the game eventually, 6-2, 6-7 and 6-3 to book a place in the round of 64.

Too bad, his opponent in the next round is Maria Sophia Lubis from the mighty Pemecutan who is ranked 8th in the world, 3rd in Melayu Archipelago and 4th in Championnats Nationaux de Recuecn de Tennis. Pemecutan is a tennis powerhouse. They have 3 singles in the top 10 world rankings and occupied all the top 4 spots in Melayu Archipelago. If Melayu Archipelago is a country, all the tennis players will be from Pemecutan.

Batera Siwara had experienced playing player from Pemecutan and it didn't end well. He lost to Ngurah Putra Muliawan, ranked 6th in the world in the Istria Open semi-final. Can Batera Siwara be the first Eramanian to beat Pemecutan's tennis player? We will find out.

Mattijana Perform in Preliminaries, but Tough Games Await

MFO SPORT

Mattias Burges, Ajla Vesnic and the doubles team of Tamara Hucsak and Dominik Lintner all recorded victories on the second day of action in Recuecn on an encouraging day for Mattijana.

Burges, now ranked 11th after his hard court win in Steinigestrasse, beat Gergary's Vanessza Pataki in straight sets to progress to the round of 64 in a straightforward and assured performance in his first match of the season on the clay.
The experienced Mattijanan made use of his favourite surface against his lower-ranked opponent, dominating Pataki through his use of spin, tactics and sheer persistence. He generally only needed to rely on the rising unforced error count from the other side of the net and now faces Kendra Jackson from the Andromeda Islands in the official first round.

Meanwhile, Mattijanan number 5 Ajla Vesnic also enjoyed a straight sets win against Diarcesia's Sydney Meeuswen, coming through 7-5, 6-4. The world number 202 produced a promising performance on debut, but ultimately lost points at vital times against her more powerful and experienced opponent.
Vesnic is already favourite to claim the final spot at the Mattijanan Open that follows the Championats after a hugely disappointing loss in the qualifying round for main rival Maria Julenic, but she will be keen to ram home her advantage and move above Julenic in the rankings as well as the form book. A win in her next match against Northwest Kalactin's Alex Sanchez would be enough to achieve that and could also move her into the world's top 50 for the first time.

In the doubles, Tamara Hucsak and Dominik Lintner also enjoyed a win, albeit a tougher one against Gergarian pair Tamara Takacs and Albert Taussig. A topsy-turvy first couple of sets were shared 6-2, 1-6, but the serve of Taussig was broken late in a tense final set to hand the promising Mattijanan duo a win. They go up against Permecutanese team Oka Sulastra and Luh Putu Yundari in the last 32.

The next round will also see the return of world number one Dominika Lisicki, who faces a potentially tricky tie against home athlete Lucien Le Floch. The world number 73 looks in good touch after a dominant win over Heather Long in the preliminary round and will have the crowd on his side against Lisicki.
The Mattijanan is clearly good at hitting the ground running after her performance in Electrum, but will have to do so again to go well in Recuecn with some good opponents and promising rookies awaiting.

With that all in store tomorrow, here's the second half of Jasmina Dulic's interview with the chief selector of Mattijanan Tennis, Alex Dimitrov.

"Talking of Ajla Vesnic, how did you go about finding her and what do you make of her start to the season?"

"She came onto the radar for us at the Pulnik Academy during NSTT 4 and we were really impressed by how well she could strike the ball and how consistently she could do it for her age. She's been in the development setup for a while, but she's worked really hard over the break, she's a little more match savvy now and she's really deserved her chance this year. It's still early days for her at the moment, stepping up to the NSTT is always a big step, but she's produced some impressive performances so far and I'm sure she'll keep getting better."

"A lot of players to make the NSTT recently have come from Pulnik, what's your relationship with them like and how are you supporting players from other areas?"

We've got a fantastic relationship with Pulnik. They're a world class facility and the best one in our country, and we're really on board with their ethos on player welfare. We're scouting from all across the country though, which I think is reflected by some of the players in the wider squad such as Tamara Hucsak and Dominik Lintner and it's really exciting to have more players coming through from places like Puljanka and Burges. We're still making regular visits to those clubs as well as to Pulnik, so we'll hopefully continue to see players coming through from all regions."

"We've talked a lot about the singles, do you feel doubles tennis has taken a backseat so far this season?"

"I think the big story on that side for everyone has been Dominika choosing not to play doubles anymore and that being a decision that's helped her in the singles. I think we're seeing a trend where players are specialising in singles or doubles and that's fine, but it's important to recognise what we have achieved in the doubles this season. Rikard Kampl and Marko Juvan look like they're starting a solid partnership and Tamara and Dom had a really good run to the semis in Steinigestrasse, so it's not as if we've completely dropped our level, it's just not as successful compared to Dominika and Matt in the singles. What's really exciting though is that three out of those four players are season rookies, so this is a really promising start."

"Were you involved with that decision?"

Ultimately, it's down to Dominika to make that choice and we'll support that. We worked with her and with Rikard Kampl to try and find a replacement for him because he's still a top class doubles specialist and deserves to continue playing on the world stage. We didn't interfere at all with Dominika's decision though. That's for her to make in conjunction with her personal team."

"Do you think Marko Juvan will be a long term partner for Kampl or are you looking at other options as well?"

"Rikard and ourselves looked at a number of options before he started playing with Marko Juvan. The option this season to play alongside players from other nations spiced things up, but Marko's a player who really complements Rikard and even though it's now within the regulations, there's still complications with how much athletes can train and interact with each other, so staying local was still the best option for us. We were impressed with how they played together in Istrija, so we'll have some headaches when we're choosing players for Burges on the doubles side of the draw as well and of course with only the two slots available, it's really competitive. It's a sign we're building that strength in depth that we have been lacking in the past, which is a real positive as well. I think it's clear that we're pretty optimistic about Mattijanan tennis for the rest of the season and beyond, but of course it's important we continue that work."

"Thanks for your time Alex, and good luck for the rest of the season."

As if Austria, Slovenia, North-Eastern Europe and Sweden were merged together into some weird stew of a country.
through resilience, we are strong!

Most Aqualias March Past Preliminary Round
BEÇONAILLES, Rçn.—Millions more across Aqual once again returned to watch the action in Les Championnats as four matches featuring Aqualias faced off in the preliminary round of singles and doubles today. Detailed results from all matches below.

Singles Preliminary Round Results

Batera Siwara (ERM) 6 6 6
Daniel Cervantes (AQL) 2 7 3

Going into this match, sports analysts and Cervantes' team alike knew this was going to be an uphill battle against Batera Siwara, the semifinalist from Istria. The upstart player from Eraman came out of the gates swinging, breaking to fifteen in the first game before repeating the feat just two games later to go up with a 3-0 double break early in the first set. After several routine service games, Siwara again managed to break the Cervantes serve to clinch the set 6-2 after a backhand return down the line was simply too good.

Going into the second, Cervantes surprised even himself as he broke Siwara's serve for the first time in the match with three straight unanswered winners. However, Siwara would not give up the break that easily, instead pushing Cervantes' own serve once again past its limit to regain equal footing at one game all. The player from Eraman was indeed the first player to hold serve in the second, but was matched shortly thereafter by Cervantes for two games all. In the fifth game, a handful of unforced errors off Siwara's racquet paired with two Cervantes forehands which landed right on the baseline were enough for Cervantes to break again for 3-2. He then ultimately consolidated the break after being heavily tested in a game with six deuces that lasted nearly ten minutes. Siwara was determined not to allow the double break he had achieved in the first set be repeated by Cervantes in the second, and held relatively easily with forced errors from all sides of the court. The Aqualia responded by forcing some errors of his own off Siwara's returns in the eighth game to go up 5-3. With Siwara serving to stay in the set, the Eraman player pulled off only his second ace of the match to hold 4-5. In the next game, Cervantes was serving for the set at 40-30 but double faulted. That was the crucial turning point for Siwara, who blasted two consecutive return winners from nearly a foot within the baseline to break for 5-all. Under pressure, Siwara again managed to hold serve with ease. With the tables turned against Cervantes (who was now serving at match point down 6-5 15-40), he finally found his rhythm on serve, saving both match points with one-two punches nailing an ace out wide at deuce and a return winner down the T to send the set to a tiebreaker. There, Siwara's nerves were evident, having been shaken after failing to capitalize on two match points. Cervantes won three mini-breaks while winning each of his own service points to comfortably win it 7-2.

Buoyed by the momentum, Cervantes was again flawless on serve to win the first game of the deciding set to love. Siwara, regaining form, won the next game at 40-30 with a service winner right to the body of Cervantes. The player from Eraman began to return Cervantes' serves in the next game with much more freedom, giving much more deadly pace to the returns which the Aqualia simply couldn't reach. Having broken for 2-1, Siwara again dominated the following service game to consolidate for 3-1. The Aqualian player just managed to stave off a double break which would have all but sealed his fate, but could not stop Siwara from expanding the lead to 4-2 on the next service game from the Eraman player. Cervantes gave one last showing to again narrowly win his serve for 4-3, but Siwara completely took control in the next game, holding to love for 5-3 before dismantling Cervantes' serve to love to clinch the three-setter 6-2, 6(2)-7, 6-3.

Matéu Virxiliu (AQL) 2 6 6
Catherine James (AIG) 6 4 1

Matéu Virxiliu was next to take to the court here at Beçonailles, against Catherine James of the Andromeda Island Group. Virxiliu in this match did not have the benefit as in the Istrian Open of having played an extra match in qualifying, which was evident in his slow start. He lost the four opening games before managing to hold serve twice towards the end of the set, which the Andromedan won easily, 6-2, off a double break.

In the second set, Virxiliu was still trying to find his footing, dropping his opening service game; James consolidated the break for 2-0. Virxiliu managed to hold serve with impeccable defense for 2-1. James held easily after two incredible volley drives to increase the lead to 3-1. A handful of well-placed serves later, Virxiliu hung tight in his service game before eventually managing to break Catherine James’ serve with a couple of heavily topspin passing shots to equalize for three games all. He then held serve again with very technical serves to go up 4-3. With the pressure on James, the player from the Andromeda Island Group managed to fire winners from both wings to keep the set on serve, 4-all. Virxiliu really had a lightbulb turn on then, holding to love with an ace and three back-to-back clear winners. He then managed to break on James’ serve with two cross-court return winners at simply perfect angles to claim the set 6-4.

After that moment, the momentum swung into the Aqualia’s direction, finishing the third set in just over twenty minutes with 19 winners to Catherine James’ four, only dropping six points to unforced errors. If he can maintain that level of play in his next, highly anticipated match against compatriot Rafael Bautista, he has a great shot not only at winning that match but at a deep run into this tournament.

Bartolo Sabanero (AQL) 7 6
Bala Guiss (BNJ) 6 4

Bartolo Sabanero, who will take to the doubles court tomorrow in the Round of 32 with partner Qualo Tabos, won today in impressive fashion over Bala Guiss. Both sets were tight, with the first going to a tiebreak after two early trade of breaks preceded eight straight service holds. During the tiebreak, it seemed anyone’s guess as to who would clinch the set at 6-6 (following four mini-breaks from either player). Then, however, just after the change of ends, Sabanero sent a rocket of a return straight back to the body of Bala Guiss right on the baseline, which the Banijan player could not manage to get back in play. On Sabanero’s serve, he sliced the ball right down the T, stretching Guiss out towards the deuce side of the court. On the return, Sabanero wrong-footed the Banijan by putting the ball away down the line for the open-court winner and the first set.

The opening of the second set was a near perfect reflection of the first, with two trades of breaks for 2-all before both Sabanero and Guiss managed to hold for the first time in the set. They both once again repeated that feat (albeit with more resistance; both games went to multiple deuces) for four games apiece. Sabanero continued this streak, once again enjoying a narrow victory on his serve for 5-4. Serving to stay in the set, Guiss felt a strong challenge from the Aqualian player, who eventually forced the final error on his third match point to win it 7-6(6), 6-4. He will face 21st seed Alexey Pustozerov of Waisnor tomorrow in the Round of 64.

Doubles Preliminary Round Results

AAUGCC/Jack Ho (EAS/ETM) 6 6
Carla Tormo/Lara Navarro (AQL) 1 2

Probably the last thing Carla Tormo and Lara Navarro expected on only their second-ever international tournament together was to face off against . . . a tennis-playing gorilla?

Alas, that is just what they faced in AAUGCC’s latest host. Their shock was seemingly reflected in their performance, winning just a single game late in the first set as Carla Tormo won some points off body serves to AAUGCC (it turns out gorillas aren’t the best at getting around the ball). However, although they attempted to utilize this strategy more in the second set, they only managed to win two more service games (both Tormo’s). It seems the EAS and Electrum pair weren’t monkeying around with this match.

We hope you will once again join us for an exciting day of tennis tomorrow, as the highly anticipated showdown between Rafael Bautista and Matéu Virxiliu unfolds live on the Toboso Chronicle’s website. Another match many Aqualias are looking forward to is the Beçonailles debut of Istrian finalists Sabanero and Tabos, who will face Bahari Zack and Diana Jansen of Sharktail. Detailed results of all matches to come tomorrow as well in our next publication.

Princess Karina trip to Reçueçn part 2

The second day of Sharktail young princess, Princess Karina and her sister Princess Alia in Reçuecn. Seem like princess Karina already woke up a few hours ago. Princess Alia comes out from her room after done change.

PK: Good morning sis.

PA: Good morning. You wake up early today. It is rare to see you already done changing by this time.

PK: Hehe and it rarely too to see you late.

PA: Cannot help, I have something I need to be done before going to sleep. I will be happy if I like you.

PK: No, I really jealous of you. Even you have many works to do, but you still can do what you want to do and go where you like. I just hope I bit older now.

PA: Haha, sometimes seeing you can make me laugh. A little girl who looks like a bird wants to be free from the cage and fly everywhere in the sky. Well, you have point there but still, they are something you can enjoy even you young.

PK: What is it?

PA: Enjoy your life. I can do what I want but not all time. There is the time I have work, meeting, party, ceremony. But for you, your schedule can be said almost empty you know.

PK: Hmm. Ok, I will not come up with that again but I still hope for it. I want at least free to do one thing I like.

PA: Tennis, right? Be patient. Just a few more years.

PK: Ok I try. Hey sis, the full result of the round of 64 and round of 32 has been updated.

PA: How rare you know fast.

PK: I asked Luna.

PA: Like I predicted. So how game last night?

PK: Best. Glad we got the front seat. I can clearly see everything. All player from Sharktail doing well last night. However, we nearly get all our player pass to the next round.

PA: It not a big deal in the sport you know. Even the top player or team can lose to some unknown name. Rank, point not really can guranted them to wins.

PK: Hmm. Sis, why that happens? They are high rank but why they can lose?

PA: Maybe it has a relation with their personality. Some player does well in hardcourt but not in clay court. One more you have to know in tennis also have tier 2 tournament, sometimes a player gets many points from there so when there enter more high stage, they failed to keep up with that.

PK: You right. If the player ranking plays the main role, the high ranker can be said unbeatable right? It will drip the confidence for a youth player.

PA: Yeah. Don't worry we still have 2 single and 2 double past into next round. Syamim Kevin and Naim Alex both them win last night. Izzat Manson and George Fakhrul seem comfortable with each other as a pair. Diana Jansen who just recently lairing with Bahari Zack also surprisingly worked.

PK: Sadly Haikal Jansen eliminated. he is the first one to back to Sharktail.

PA: Don't worry. When you choose this path as your career, you have to be ready for it. Win and lose, this thing no matter how you run it will happen. You good you win you badly you lose. Now for him, he has to back mkre stronger next time. Let hope he will do more good next time.

PK: Yes. Hey sis, can we go to the stadium early tonight?

PA: Why?

PK: No i just want to see around the stadium.

PA: Ok. For now, let go eat. Ask Luna to come along.

PK: Ok.

A strong start for Reçueçn in the preliminary rounds at Beçonailles was turned on its head yesterday as the tournament began its official first round. All but one of the local players were still in the competition, but only one singles athlete--Gaëlle Sellier--will be advancing to the round of thirty-two.

Abelie Fontana, Reçueçn's young tennis prodigy, was one of the ones who lost yesterday. Freedom and Memes' Serena Milliams defeated her six-three seven-five. But to be honest, we should have seen that coming. Serena Milliams? That's the name of a champion. I'm unfamiliar with the Milliams family, but I'm willing to bet she's not the only one with mad tennis skills. I don't know why I'm saying this--obviously it's not like I have some kind of parallel universe to draw inferences from--but it just feels Serena ought to have a sibling just as good at the game as she is. I don't know, maybe a brother named Mars? Mars Milliams. Now there's a winner.

It's not just the Milliams family that you can tell are born to be winners. The Milliams are patriotic (I'm assuming) Freedom and Memeians, and their glorious nation seems designed to produce champions. Can you imagine growing up in a nation with a military seven times the size of Reçueçn's population, playing in the shadow of the Leaning Tower of Pizza and the Meme Mahal, and not being the best in the world at your chosen profession, whether that be tennis or something more mundane (at least to a Freedom and Memeian), such as being a flying giant robo eagle taxi driver? No. You can't. Freedom and Memeians are superior to the rest. They're raised to be that way. And that's why it makes perfect sense that Serena Milliams, scion of that great land, would steamroll Abelie Fontana, Reçuecian tennis' best hope for the future, in straight sets.

Fortunately, the two Reçuecian doubles pairs have both made it to the round of sixteen. We should hope so: the Fournier siblings are ranked number one in the multiverse.

The inside scoop on the new Electrumite partnerships

With the recent innovation at the start of this season's tour allowing doubles players to be counted separately on the rankings, players are now no longer disadvantaged when they switch partners like they were in the past. As a result, there has been more freedom in switching partners both within the same nation and different nation. While some nations have not fully taken advantage of this new development, the Electrumites have, being a part of four mixed teams and a further two full-Electrumite teams. As many people are aware, the Electrumites tend to excel in doubles tennis compared to singles. It's been a fact of life since the very first NSTT tournament we competed in many seasons ago. This phenomena has been most commonly chalked up to the fact that youngsters learn how to play doubles tennis first before graduating onto singles - taking care of half the court is much easier for the low-dexterous hands of children.

As a result, tennis doubles talent in Electrum runs deep. Sonya Gredello and Rosa Levinsky, as well as the previous pairing of Joan Levitt and Deanne Smith (before the former's retirement), are well-known household names with success on both the tennis tour and in the Olympics. However, that also means that there's a lot of competition for places on tour. There are two Electrumite pairs in the all-important top eight doubles pairs (Gredello/Levinsky and Smith/Zhuo), which means that there's not a lot of room for the other pairs (Steinigestrasse winners Stewart/Kawasaki and newbies Hathwar/Ho) to be entered into tournaments, given that at most, two doubles teams may be submitted per nation. As a result, Electrumites have resorted to skipping tournaments and pairing up with other nation's players in order to get additional shots that they might not otherwise be getting.

In particular, we've seen this success with Hathwar and Ho. Despite their initial successes at the Electrum Slam and at Steinigestrasse, insiders at the ELTA pointed to a rift between them during the off-season before the clay tournament. In particular, Ho was looking at a more equitable partnership, accusing Hathwar of being overbearing and making the wrong calls during matches, costing them further advancement in Steinigestrasse. Now, Ho has partnered up with the virus-in-the-gorilla AAUGCC, making a combination that should not work, work. Both players have strong baseline fundamentals, taking advantage of the opponent's short balls to generate unplayable shots. When required, Ho is also known for taking the ball early, making it harder for opponents to react, making them more likely to commit errors. Everyone in the tennis community has known that the Ebola and SARA doubles team was not working effectively, given their rivalry and first round defeats in Centralis and Steinigestrasse.

Not to be outdone, Hathwar has partnered up with SARA to poor results so far, with early exits in Beconailles and Istria. Despite the mixed results of their initial partnerships, Hathwar and Ho are intending to partner up with players from Kohnhead in the latter half of the clay court swing. It may be the case that the Ho-AAUGCC combination might become permanent and Hathwar will have to settle with Spencer Kohnhead as a doubles partner moving forward. Leanne Stewart and Anthony Kawasaki have also played their first tournament apart, this time competing with players from The Grearish Union. While Leanne Stewart and Jeff Rogers had an early exit, the combination of Anthony Kawasaki and Martha McNeil looks promising. Kawasaki's experience in volleying and finessing the ball complements well with McNeil's excellent serving and baseline play. Together, they seem to be the complete package - though time will tell if their partnership will bear fruit in Recuecn.

DEUCE: The Mixed Bag Of All Mixed Bags

Postby TJUN-ia » Tue Jun 23, 2020 7:38 am

You know what it's like when you completely forget that something was happening that day, so you scramble to try and watch it? Well, that's how I felt when I realised that the doubles were occurring along with the singles in Beçonailles, Recuecn. I'm sorry for my incompetence, now back to the tennis. This day turned out to be a total mixed bag, so let's get the bad out of the way first.

The Bad
Sarah Dinsdale (KRY) bt Valentina Spetsova [6] (6-3, 6-3)
This one certainly came out of nowhere. Valentina Spetsova, Scarlet herself, the TJUN-ian No.1 was outplayed by the 90th ranked player in the NSTT. Sarah Dinsdale of Krytenia (who we may have met before) had something to prove as she certainly did that in straight sets. Scarlet, the 6th seed, faulters and now she must look for answers in the doubles before she prepares for Hamilton...

Mindy Waterford (KHD) [9] bt Felipe de la Rosa (6-3, 1-6, 8-6)
Oh Kohnhead, Kohnhead, Kohnhead. Just when we thought we finally bested the Brains, they come back fighting. Felipe de la Rosa's match-up with 9th seed Mindy Waterford will go down as a classic for sure. Mindy took set 1 comfortably only for El Matador to fight back hard and take set 2. The 3rd and final set had to go to sudden death, which Mindy won eventually. El Matador tried his best but now he must also go to the doubles looking for something.

Andrew Simmons (ETM) [12] vs Austin McDanielson [Q] (7-6(10-8), 7-5)
As for Austin McDanielson, he played in a tight 2-set match against 12th seed Andrew Simmonds of Electrum. He lost the 1st set in a tiebreaker and only lost the 2nd due to a late break by Simmons. He may be out, but he certainly fought valiantly. TJUN-ia is finally warming to The Cowboy, but he goes to the doubles too.

The Good
Shinji Makauchi bt Antonio Valero (CSE) [26] (6-4, 6-3)
At least we will have one player in the singles tomorrow, as Shinji Makauchi bested the 26th seed in straight sets. Antonia Valero of Christos certainly played well, but he was no match for Samurai Shinji. He will move on to take on...her. Dominika fucking Lisicki. The No.1 player in the world since she won the Electrum Slam and the No.1 seed in Beçonailles. She has not done well since becoming No. 1, but she is still difficult to try and beat. The last time a TJUN-ian player faced the No.1, it was Jean van de Kloor as he pushed Leo Garry to the wire but ultimately fell. Samurai Shinji, if he wants to make the quarterfinals, must take down the Queen of this sport.

Valentina Spetsova/Austin McDanielson [6] bt Pablo Cedric Kilapkilap/Tasya Han (FID) (6-2, 6-2)
Our luck was certainly better in the doubles. Scarlet and The Cowboy now can focus on getting as far into this draw as they can without worrying about the singles. They took their first steps towards the deep end against Pablo Cedric Kilapkilap and Tasya Han of Filindostan. 6-2, 6-2 - simple as that and the stans will love it. They will take on Sharktail's Izzat Manson and George Fakhrul tomorrow...let's see if we can take down the Blue Monster.

Shinji Makauchi/Felipe de la Rosa (TJU) bt Javier Carrasco/Tomas de Torquemada (BCA) [15] (6-2, 4-6, 6-4)
Now that El Matador is out of the singles, he and Samurai Shinji now find themselves in the same situation Scarlet and The Cowboy were in during the Kinterten. Make of that what you will. 15th seeds Javier Carrasco and Tomas de Torquemada of Big Carencia were the opponents, and they would certainly be no pushovers. The TJUN-ians took Set 1 convincingly but Carrasco and de Torquemada bounced back to take a tight Set 2. It went down to the final set, where the TJUn-ians finally broke through to earn their tickets to the Round of 16. They will play another unranked pairing in the form of Justin White and Joe Fernández from Northwest Kalactin.

The Waterford rivalry with TJUN-ia heats up

Yeah it did not go too well, we now have one player left.

Mindy Waterford (KHD) 6 1 8
Felipe de la Rosa (TJU) 3 6 6

The day after her twin sister goes down against The Cowboy from TJUN-ia, Mindy Waterford is drawn against El Matador from you guessed it TJUN-ia in her first match of the tournament. Now Felipe de la Rosa is ranked 66th in the world compared to Waterford's 16th but don't let that fool you, as this match would go down to the wire. Theresa had been thoroughly beaten by someone she was projected to easily win against, Mindy would not let TJUN-ia do it again. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Waterford did not mince words after the match saying she wanted to kick de la Rosa's butt and needed to avenge her sister's defeat. The rivalry between Kohnhead especially the Waterford sisters and TJUN-ia is heating up and I'm excited to see where this will go. Waterford will play 82nd ranked Eckehard Blumenberg from Gregary and I'm hoping she can easily win.

Sonya Gredello/Rosa Levinsky (ETM) 7 6 6
Riley Dovatin/Melissa Turnface (KHD) 6 7 4

Doubles round of 32 also kicked off yesterday and it didn't go well for Dovatin and Turnface as they suffered a loss to a double from Electrum in Gredello and Levinsky. These two are both very good and were expected to beat Turnface and Dovatin who split the first two sets 7-6 each before losing 6-4 in the final set. Dovatin and Turnface seem to always falter early on in tournaments and I hope Mattijana will change their fates.

Spencer Kohnhead/Bradley Kohnface (KHD) 1 6
Deanne Smith/Sara Zhuo (ETM) 6 7

I guess doubles players from Electrum like to beat us, but again Kohnhead and Kohnface were not the favorites in this one. Kohnhead and Kohnface have not looked the best on clay, hopefully they can turn that around when they each pair with someone from Electrum. We will probably see them together again on grass but not on clay.

Mindy Waterford please make this tournament turn out good, please don't lose today.

Another Tense Night in Beçonailles
BEÇONAILLES, Rçn.—Tonight was easily the most heavily anticipated day of tennis in Les Championnats for Aqualian viewers, with two seeded players in both singles and doubles competing, as well as a showdown between two compatriots. Detailed results from both those matches and Sabanero's singles match below.

Singles Round of 64 Results

Alexey Pustozerov (WSN) 1 4
Bartolo Sabanero (AQL) 6 6

With Bartolo Sabanero's impressive performance last week in the Istrian Open alongside partner Qualo Tabos, it can be easily forgotten that he in fact is also a very skilled singles player. He showcased that skill today against Alexey Pustozerov, allowing only a single game in the first set. In the second, Sabanero continued to play well but was met with a much stronger Pustozerov, who eventually broke in the fourth game to go up 3-1. However, the Aqualia broke back immediately by adopting a more aggressive style with flatter, higher pace shots. Sabanero again used this tactic in his next service game by setting up his heavy groundstrokes with the use of serves out wide. With the second set now equalized at three games all, Pustozerov's serve was again broken thanks to deep returns from the Aqualian player to go up 4-3. He managed to hold easily again, mixing in some topspin passing shots and even a volley drop. The downside of a more aggressive, risk-taking style is that it naturally leads to more unforced errors, which the Waisnor player benefited from in the next game, holding to stay in the set 5-4. However, Sabanero made some adjustments to his forehand side, giving it just enough spin to keep his shots inside the lines; he held serve on his second match point to advance to the Round of 32 by a 6-1, 6-4 margin. He will face off against Sekar Laut of Eraman tomorrow in the Round of 32.

The King of Aqualian Tennis Dethroned?
Rafael Bautista (AQL) 6 4
Matéu Virxiliu (AQL) 7 6

The highlight of the day in Reçueçn was the matchup between the highest-ranked nationally player, champion of both the La Rana and El Molino Opens and seventeen seed in Beçonailles, Rafael Bautista, and Matéu Virxiliu, who burst onto the tennis scene by reaching the semifinal of the El Molino Open as a wildcard and won Aqual's first international match of the year to qualify for Istria. The match certainly lived up to the hype, with over a thousand Aqualias packed into the stands to witness the first all-Aqualia match in an international tournament. An early trade of breaks, followed by Virxiliu holding serve, placed the pressure on Bautista's serve, who double faulted at 30-all to give Virxiliu the one break point he needed to clinch the break with a backhand winner down the line. Buoyed by the momentum and the crowd support, Virxiliu cruised to an easy service game hold to go up 3-1. With Bautista now serving, he showed the younger Virxiliu what champions are made of, holding in incredibly smooth fashion before firing two return winners back at the youngster to break back for three games all. The crucial seventh game swung the momentum further towards Bautista with a cross-court passing shot to hold for 4-3. However, Virxiliu remained calm to hold serve to fifteen. Bautista desperately needed to win his own service game at 4-all, and he did so after the second deuce with a forehand from Virxiliu sailing both long and wide. Virxiliu, serving to stay in the set at 5-4, provided his first ace of the match down the T to hold at 40-30. When he then proceeded to break Bautista's serve following an epic twenty-one shot rally ending in a forced error from the elder player falling into the net, the crowd exploded, expecting Virxiliu to serve out the set at 6-5. However, Bautista roared back with an impressive series of points of his own to force a tiebreak. There, although Bautista won the first mini-break, Virxiliu proved why he is known to Aqualias as a force to be reckoned with, managing impressive gets to win the tiebreaker by seven points to four, giving him the first set.

Again, Virxiliu won not only an impressive series of games but also (perhaps as crucially) the momentum, which allowed him to break Bautista's serve to love before readily consolidating for 2-0. With Bautista again serving, Virxiliu again pushed the returns deep into the back corners of the court, forcing Bautista onto the defensive and allowing Matéu to strike clean winners into wide open areas. After claiming the double break for 3-0, Virxiliu managed to hold serve after wrong-footing his opponent several times by actually not hitting into the obviously open court. Down 4-0, it seemed impossible for Bautista to get back into the match, but he never gave up, holding with some of the fastest serves of the night from either player. He then managed to return very well, in some instances actually giving more pace to the ball than the serve itself to break back for 4-2. However, Virxiliu would not allow Bautista to consolidate the break so easily, instead giving him some of his own medicine on the return with a return winner giving him the break back for 5-2. Now serving for the match, and actually getting two match points, Virxiliu finally looked as if he had some nerves, and he squandered both opportunities with unforced errors before giving Bautista the break again on a weak backhand into the net. Serving to stay in the match at 5-3, Bautista managed to again draw some errors out of a visibly pressured Virxiliu to hold for 5-4. On his second game in the set to serve for the match, Virxiliu looked much more composed, not making any unforced errors in that game to clinch the set on his fourth match point at 40-15 by a 7-6(4), 6-4 margin. Perhaps this foretells of a new Aqualian national champion in the months to come . . .

Virxiliu will meet Syamin Kevin of Sharktail in the Round of 32 tomorrow.

Doubles Round of 32 Results

Bartolo Sabanero/Qualo Tabos (AQL) 1 6 5
Bahari Zack/Diana Jansen (SHT) 6 2 7

To be frank, Sabanero and Tabos' performance today was simply lacking. The first set was humiliating, winning less than half the amount of points as their opponents and only a single game. Although they managed to win the second set by six games to two, this was mostly due to Bahari Zack and Diana Jansen temporarily tightening up and making more errors. Even in the third set, where the Aqualias looked a bit better, they showed a lack of focus and their usually strong, fierce competitive spirit just wasn't in it today. Hopefully this serves as a valuable lesson for the future: although they may have been seeded highly and had success in the past, you can never discredit or underestimate an opponent. This should serve as a wake-up call to all Aqualian athletes, both professional and amateur, to never get too proud of themselves to lose sight of the bigger picture. A deep congratulations to the Sharktail team for offering that profound wisdom to us today.

We hope you again tune in live on our website and peruse tomorrow's publication for full detailed results from both our singles matches, brought to you by the Toboso Chronicle.

He came strong in the first set and able to controlled all the games. McNeil succeed to only took one game before losing 1-6 to Adrian Putra. In the second set, McNeil try hard to rise up and turn over the table. She successfully pushed Adrian Putra to the edge and pressure the Pemecutanian single to his limit. Entering the third set, Adrian Putra try to be more focus so he could tackle McNeil changing performance. While McNeil is getting more confidence with her performance in the second set and keep her playing style. But Adrian Putra have been able to look beyond her playing style.
