So Long Recuecn, Hello Mattijana

Pemecutan Puri, Pemecutan - The second tournament of Clay Court Season has ended yesterday with Thierry Garzala of Neu Engollon and Sonya Gredello/Rosa Levinsky of Electrum took the trophy. While Pemecutan player, Dewa Putu Adrian Putra have be satisfied by finished as Semifinalist. The result is fair enough for him and even though the fans quite upset but they still proud with Adrian Putra accomplishment. The result of Championnats Nationaux de Recuecn de Tennis, makes Dewa Putu Adrian Putra keep strong in the second place of NSTT official rank with almost 1,000 points difference from the top rank, Dominika Lisicki of Mattijana. In Single Rank, only 2 Pemecutan players keep their place on the top 10. Aside from Dewa Putu Adrian Putra is Ngurah Putra Muliawan. The veteran player stood still at 8th place with the same point as Leo Garry of Britonisea. While former top 10 Maria Sophia Lubis have to drop from top 10 and placed 22nd after a bad result in Recuecn. She is 1 place under another Pemecutanian player, Indah Susanti who took 21st place. With Ngurah Putra Muliawan and Maria Sophia Lubis entering Mattijana Open, there's possibility that their ranked will be better before Hamilton International.

In Double Rank, Oka Sulastra/Luh Putu Yundari have to drop 2 places from their previous position after bad result in Recuecn although both of them still maintain in the top 10. Their position might drop again as they didn't enter Mattijana Open. The second highest Pemecutan double is Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati who placed 13th. They enter Mattijana Open with Eka Putrawan/Dwi Ratmadi which currently seating at 17th place. The second double who played in Recuecn, Ilham Nugraha/Jayadi Ahmad fall deeply to 74th position.

In the next tournament, Mattijana Open, Pemecutan entering with a complete squad of 4 singles and 2 double pairs. Ngurah Putra Muliawan, Maria Sophia Lubis, Ayu Ratih Kemalasari and Komang Agus Artawan are the singles. While Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati and Eka Putrawan/Dwi Ratmadi are the double pairs. The tournament schedule is quite tricky as it is in coincidence with Pemecutan New Year's celebration which fall on July 4th. But it will not affected the players mood as it is their last chance to gained more points before the Grand Slam. Based on the drawing that have been release by the tournament officials, most of Pemecutan players got bye into the Second Round. The only exception are Komang Agus Artawan and Ayu Ratih Kemalasari. Komang Agus Artawan is a new addition to Pemecutan squad. A young player that is prepared as the future and regeneration of Pemecutan tennis legacy. While Ayu Ratih Kemalasari is a veteran player that have been in professional for quite sometimes. Although she has less luck than her compatriot like Indah Susanti who had a better result. In the First Round of Mattijana Open, Ayu Ratih Kemalasari will be facing Michaela Iona Prisco from Natanians and Nots. While Komang Agus Artawan will be meeting host player, Ajla Vesnic. The other player got bye into the Second Round. The tournament will be begin on 30 June 2020 at 19:00 GMT or 1 July 2020 at 00:00 AM Pemecutan time.

SPORTSNEWS! NORTH ALEZIA ENTERS MATTIJANA OPEN!

North Alezia, a country not known for its sports capabilities finally dips their toes on international tennis competition. The national team are scheduled to participate and compete in the Mattijana Open, which also contains countries which are already veterans. North Alezian Tennis Federation's Chairman Itza Madrikki states:

Even though we never even went out to other countries to compete in any tennis matches ever, we will try our best to be a good competition on Mattijana Open. We prepared some top North Alezian players to go there, or Hamilton Grand Slam. We practiced vigorously for the last 3 months, and I hope all of it will pay off.

For Mattijana open, North Alezia will send 4 singles (Mazarim, Maqqitani, Maraqqi, and Martiniara) and two doubles team consisting of Mazarim/Martiniara and Maraqqi/Maqqitani. Perhaps people will think as using our singles players for doubles is a little bit too forcing on the players, and you'd be right! But North Alezia don't really have a choice due to its limitation of the amount of players sent overseas. The limit is 10 for non-sports and 8 for sport activities (Big Major Final events are exempt for this rule, instead only limits 11 people). This also includes coaches. This temporary rule also affects the North Alezian team on the Song Competition of World Hit Festival, in which the delegation only sent three people. North Alezian Tennis Federation's Chairman Itza Madrikki states:

We don't have any other option. We have to comply to the North Alezian authorities or we can't go. I think our team are ready enough to participate. They have received special training in case stuff like this would happen where we can't send seperate person for each category.

One player, Ella Martiniara gave additional statement to the ABA.
It's pretty exhausting having to play at two different categories. But we'll manage. It's on the North Alezian spirit to think of any way they could play when anything went wrong, right? I think I'll love it here at Mattijana, playing against other people at tennis, and its our first ever competition besides The Nationals! Isn't that exciting? I'm so pumped to compete.

North Alezia has been doing some strict rules on COVID-19, in which no matter wherever they are, they must quarantine for 14-days first. This is to ensure that North Alezia is, and will always be, COVID free.

We don't know how they will go against other tennis players from other countries. We hope for the best for our National Team

N° 4

The second Tennis Association of Springmont (TAS) congress held today summed up a number of things, including the positive development of national tennis athletes competing at the Championnats Nationoux de Recuecn de Tennis. Despite losing in the first game, at least they began to gain exposure directly to international championships.

Secondly, TAS was pleased to announce that Zicosoft had agreed to be their main sponsor with a sponsorship of 1.5 million a year. With this sponsorship, TAS raised funds to send these athletes to continue participating in the Mattijana Open, and Hamilton International. Although they had previously planned to join the Championnats Nationoux de Recuecn de Tennis due to lack of funds.

Third, the resignation of Claude Pauly, MP as TAS manager due to her time constraints as a Member of Parliament and her position as Secretary of State for Sports and Youth. Congress has sadly accepted her resignation and agreed to make her a patron of honor.

To this end, TAS unanimously agreed to appoint former international player Roland Ghaffur as the new TAS Manager. The meeting also agreed to appoint Tyrese Van Onselen as TAS's Chief Finance Officer to manage their sponsorship funds.

Qualifying Match: Catherine James and Heather Long
Court #6
TennisKlubBurges
6:00 pm

In addition to the eight Andromedans in the Burges draw, a few others had landed in Mattijana. They decided to stop and support their fellow players during the first week of the Mattijana draw before heading to Hamilton.

Janelle Hood and Sarah Lee Vale had settled in to watch Catherine James and Heather Long’s match. Most of the fans at Court #6 this evening were Andromedans looking to see which of these two would play the villain against #1-ranked Mattijanian Dominica Lisicki in the opening round.

As Hood pulled out her phone, Vale admonished her.

“We wait, Janelle. Brianna and Fats will tell us how Kendra did & Johnny and Julia will tell us about Belle.”

“Sarah, what’s the point of having an iPhone if we can’t find out…”

“The point is we have to be disciplined. Instead of staring into cyberspace, we focus on what’s in front of us. Speaking of which…”

Vale pointed to Johnny Galt and Julia Alexander. They went to Belle Nichols’ match which started a few hours ago. They saw Hood and Vale and walked over.

“So, how was it,” Vale asked.

John B. Galt and Julia Anexander described an interesting match between Belle Nichols and Krisna Wibara Tantan of Filindostan.

“Was it anything like the Joppa final?”

Vale and Hood both started laughing. Johnny Galt was favored to win the Joppa Open back home. He had made the final before being summarily dismissed by 18-year old newcomer Molly Jones in the final.

“You’re all laughing, but Molly Jones is on par with Kendra. You saw what she did with Liz Lee in the semifinals. 6-2, 6-0. Liz Lee looked lost out there.”

“You did too, Johnny.”

As Hood got her jabs in, Vale waved Fats Sullivan and Brianna Van Pelt over.

“I found Kendra’s match. She…”

“I want to hear Fats tell us, Janelle. Don’t ruin this.”

Sullivan and Van Pelt greet everyone.

“So, let me tell you what happened.” Sullivan described how things went down in Kendra Jackson’s match. After a rather interesting description of events, Sullivan turned to Galt.

So, Johnny, you had a good run in there in Joppa.”

“Shut up, Fats.”

“Don’t get me wrong, John B. I don’t think anyone saw Molly Jones coming. Yeah, she was the high school champ in East Portsmouth, but who knew that she was that good?”

“Fats!” Van Pelt sees that Galt is irritated. “Johnny’s upset. I’d be upset too if I lost to a red mop.”

Van Pelt referred to Molly Jones’ wild curly red hair. Galt found it hard not to laugh.

“It could have been worse,” Sullivan said. “She won her semifinal match 6-1, 6-0. Made Liz Lee look lost out there. Barely broke a sweat.”

“How old is Jones again,” Galt asked.

“She’s 18, so she’s about my age.” Sullivan constantly reminds people that he and Brianna both graduated from high school a year early.

“Now, about this match here,” Galt said. “Who’s going to win? James or Long?”

“Well, James is ranked higher overall, but Heather’s better on clay, so I don’t…”

Sullivan looked across the court at a small entourage surrounding a player familiar to most NSTT enthusiasts.

“Galt, is that…?”

“Sure is. She’s here to see which one will play in the opening round.”

“It makes sense,” Hood said. “There's no reason not to scout the competition.”

As Jenelle Hood said that, Catherine James and Heather Long emerge from the locker room. James’ outfit is a little more colorful than Long’s nearly all white, but they both look like they came to play.

All Eyes on Mattijana as Hamilton Looms Nearer

MFO SPORT

Jasmina Dulic, Tennis Correspondent

Another pretty Burges Skyscape

Burges will be the home of some of the world's best tennis players over the next week with the Mattijana Open getting underway tomorrow.
The TennisKlub Burges, on the north bank of the Sava Juliana river, plays host to the tournament for the second successive season, but the profile of this year's event is raised beyond recognition. The number of players taking part has increased by over double and the step up from tier 2 to tier 1 means that for the first time, those at the top of the rankings can take part.

The juicy bonus for the home crowd is that the woman at the pinnacle of the NSTT ladder comes from just down the road. Dominika Lisicki grew up in SavaFluss on the outskirts of Burges and although she learnt her trade in the capital, Petrovijanka, she's still claimed as one of their own by the local fans. Disappointingly however, they won't get to see the next instalment of the enthralling battle between her and Dewa Puta Adrian Putra that has dominated the top of the rankings this season.
Lisicki got the better of her opponent in Recuecn, albeit in the third place playoff, a game with no titles or ranking points at stake. That makes the on-court head-to-head 2-0 in Lisicki's favour, but Putra's run to the championships in Kinterten established him as the Mattijanan's main rival and despite being a dead-rubber, there was nothing dead or rubbery about the atmosphere at that Beconailles playoff.
The Pemecutanese number one has elected to miss the Mattijana Open however as his preparation for the second Grand Slam of the year in Hamilton approaches. That means that Lisicki has free rein to extend her already chunky advantage at the top, but perhaps has a new rivalry with Andrew Simmons to contend with.
Electrum have been waiting for a player like Simmons for even longer than Mattijanans had to wait for Lisicki. The NSTT heavyweights have excelled in the doubles thanks to the much celebrated 'Ronya' team, whilst the new move permitting matchups from two nations allows them to show off their strength in depth further. Their singles record has always been underwhelming though, but even if Simmons wasn't able to end his nation's long wait for a singles title in Recuecn, there is new hope. He did manage to beat Lisicki in a thriller in the semi-finals and the two are forecast to meet in the final if the tournament goes according to seeding. His progress will certainly be watched keenly by visitors and locals alike.

Even better for the Burges natives is that they have not only the world number one, but also the 6th seed to get behind. Mattias Burges kickstarted his season with a win at the Steinigestrasse Open and backed it up with a strong performance on his favourite surface in Recuecn, making the last 16 before a frustrating defeat to promising newcomer Naim Alex. He'll be back though, probably in the intense Stadijo Alex Dimitrov that amplifies the crowd noise to eardrum-warping levels.

Also returning is Sami Dominikanov, handed the 24th seed for the tournament. He is also a player who will thrive in front of the home crowd, going in front of them for the first time against Saxton Jale in the qualifying round tomorrow. Ajla Vesnic, in for the out-of-form Maria Julenic, is back too and plays Komang Atus Artawan, one off Pemecutan's seemingly unstoppable production line of up-and-coming players.

For Julenic, missing out on the chance to play at a home tournament will be gutting, but Vesnic's performances since arriving on the NSTT stage in Electrum warrant her selection, whilst it became clear that Julenic needs some time away from the mental pressure cooker of international tennis. The 22 year-old still has the potential, but her shot selection and execution looked tired and scrambled, even on a surface that she should be familiar with. Selector Alex Dimitrov described the decision as a 'no-brainer', which would previously have felt like the ball after a whack from one of Lisicki's better first serves, but must now be something she will herself be accepting of.

Over in the doubles, there is also plenty for the home fans to get behind. Tamara Hucsak and Dominik Lintner have been fantastic since their debut in Electrum and along with Vesnic, are a key marker of Dimitrov's success in freshening up the NSTT squad for its relaunch. They made the semis in Recuecn after defeating the old guard of Julian Slazic and Lara Basic in the quarter-finals in a rare all-Mattijanan clash. That performance was itself enough to earn the more experienced pair a slot in the Mattijana Open qualifying draw, a big relief after being out of nick during the hard court season.

Welcoming an international sporting event to home shores is always a huge source of pride for Mattijanans and this will be no different. Burges residents will certainly be keen to showcase their city to fans from abroad and those coming from the rest of the country. Attendances are set to be high, there seems to be an excited party atmosphere in the city with summer not far away (it's forecast to be a Thursday this year) and despite some top nations not sending their top players with a gruelling grand slam around the corner, there's more than enough stars around for a tournament that for Mattijanans, will take on much more importance than the Hamilton International that follows it.

SHARKTAIL POST EP19
WILL WE SHINE AGAIN?

NSTT continue with the third tournament of Cly court season. This time, all eyes will focus on Mattijana as the next tournament held there. Smile, laugh, cry, sweet memories, bitter experience, all this event will happen. Just who will taste it, no one knows.

Sharktail player once again joined the battle. This time, not much different have been made. The player with the most attention, of course, the sensational youngster, Naim Alex, the beast in clay. The best performance so far by him in the clay season. He has dismissed all the critic made by fans and report. This time he will have to remain calm and do his best once against. Will he be able to sneak to top 10 in world single rank. One more name that become focus is Syamim kevin. Syamim becomes popular in hardcourt but a bit slow down in clay. Now he has a chance to show if he is still worth title as Sharktail No1 player. The third contestant, haikal Jansen. The old engine who still in heat. What has to happen to him. We font know. Will he fired up and awaken in Mattijana or we have to wait for grass and indoor season to watch this predator awaken. Or will this time for him to step down? Last one, failure of double pair, izzat Manson will try his luck in a single category. Let just hope he will do his best.

Sharktail, not a big name in any sport, not even worth to be called on, try step by step. If you see, baby cannot even crawl in the start, then he will start with a crawl, try to stand. When able to stand, he will try to run. Even baby have a step before the can walk and run, so why we cannot take a slow step too. Every fan will be disappointed if their player not being good but just move one step by step.

The battle has started. Grab your racket, get the ball, go stand on the court and serve the ball. Let be prepare all the the fans, Mattijana Open is ready now, just waiting for you all.

Go Sharktail

CHAPTER 12
POST-CHAMPIONNATS NATONAUX DE RECUECN DE TENNIS

Batera Siwara went on to win against Maria Sophia Lubis from Pemecutan and then Serena Milliams from Family and Memes before losing to eventual finalist, Andrew Simmons from Electrum in the Round of 16. A semi-final appearance in his first international tournament and reaching the round of sixteen in his second is not a bad feat at all. That's enough to get him the 28th spot in the ranking.

After competing in two international tournaments, Batera Siwara has shown promises that he is able to compete with top players. The two players who knocked him out were both in the top 10 in the ranking, Ngurah Putra Muliawan who is ranked 8th and Andrew Simmons who is ranked 6th in the world. He managed to beat players like ranked 13th Syamim Kevin and ranked 22nd Maria Sophia Lubis in the process. The other 3 players who competed in both competitions haven't shown any promise yet.

The third international competition players from Eraman will compete in is the Mattijana Open. Good performances in the previous tournaments ensured that Batera Siwara went to Burges as the 15th seed. The highlight of the draw is the possibility of Batera Siwara to play neighbouring Sharktail top player, Haikal Jansen in Round 2 and a re-match with Andrew Simmons in Round 3. It does look like a tough draw for the Eraman number 1.

Can Batera Siwara repeat his performance in Burges? We are about to find out. But before that, it is Mekar Laut, Sekar Laut and Hemat Darwisa who will take on the court first in the qualifying round as Batera Siwara had a bye straight to Round 1.

DEUCE: Hamilton Looms As We Head To Burges

Postby TJUN-ia » Tue Jun 30, 2020 7:52 am

We're back, just as quickly as we left. After the chaos of the CNRT in Recuecn a new bunch of players head to Burges, Mattijana for the final Tier 1 Clay tournament - the Mattijana Open! After the rise of The Samurai and The Matador in the doubles and a decent performance in the singles, the other players representing the TFT will now try to bring their own successes at the TennisKlub Burges. Here are the TJUN-ian Stars looking to make an impact before the Hamilton International!

SINGLES
Jean van de Kloor (Rank - 29th [10])
Age: 21
Nickname: De Kloor of Toropo
Hometown: Toropo/Almadinat, AU Zone

De Kloor is back. Jean van de Kloor was the original TJUN-ian star, making it to the quarterfinals of his first-ever tournament - the Electrum Slam, only falling to Leo Garry (then No.1) in a thriller. He won "Best Underdog" for his efforts, but then produced to fall to Theresa Waterford of Kohnhead in the 2nd round of the Kinterten. This will be his first tournament since that loss and a lot has changed: Valentina Spetsova is the new TJUN-ian star while the battle against the Waterfords has turned into a sort of rivalry.

The man with the Monokuma tattoo (OOC: look it up), the proud Afrikaner will be hoping his excellent ball-reaching skills hasn't regressed in the time between the Kinterten and now. As a top 16 seed, he will have a bye into Day 2. He will take in either Krisna Wibara Tantan of Filindostan or Belle Nicholls from The Andromeda Island Group.

Joe Katsi (Rank - T-65th [32])
Age: 22
Nickname: The Kat of Horizon
Hometown: Port Horizon, UO Zone

Finally returning to action for the first time since we were in Gergary, the Kat of Horizon is one of the kindest players you will ever see in the NSTT. He enjoys himself when he plays no matter if he is winning or not and will always have a smile on his face. His biggest moment was taking down a ranked opponent at the Electrum Slam, but he hasn't done much since. Now in his first Tier 1 tournament, he will be hoping to show the NSTT that his performance in Electrum wasn't a fluke. Even though he is seeded, he must take part in qualifying. His opponent on Court 1 will be Bee Aldrin from the delightfully-named Freedom and memes.

Philippe Baloui (Rank - T-87th [UR])
Our first returnee from the Istria Open is L'artiste. He managed to play some good tennis in Banija before falling to Eraman's rising star in the form of Batera Siwara. Many back in TJUN-ia feel as though Baloui is improving after every tournament, so who knows what he could do in his 4th tournament. He will play on Court 2 against Vladimir Mikhailov of Waisnor.

Harold Crawley (Rank - T-138th [UR])
Ah yes, The Crawler. He's not had the best of times so far in the NSTT. He was drawn as TJUN-ian No.1 at random in Electrum but ever since then, things have gone south for the man from Riverside - the home of the TFT itself. I don't think he has even won a match yet and he sits as the worst TJUN-ian in the rankings by far. Surely his luck has to improve at some point but some are starting to doubt it. He will hope it begins on Court 7 as he takes on Razaq Mazarim from the debuting nation of North Alezia.

DOUBLES
Kim Li Bo/ Mei Li Bo (Rank - T-86th [16])

Kim
Age: 17
Nickname: Zuǒ Bì (Left Arm)
Hometown: Hongxai, CEA Zone

Mei
Age: 17
Nickname: Yòu Bì (Right Arm)
Hometown: Hongxai, CEA Zone

Born to tennis-playing parents, Zuǒ Bì and Yòu Bì have been teammates since the death of their mother - when they made a pact to never face each other on opposite sides of the court. We have seen glimpses of their potential but, like L'artiste in a way, they have never made a deep enough run to show it all off. Maybe it will happen here or maybe not but with Shinji Makauchi and Felipe de la Rosa making a statement in Reçueçn, the twins will be hoping to provide a response. They will begin on Day 2 against another pair of siblings - Dholu and Bholu Singh of Freedom and memes.

Vuyani Rabada/Kaui Kamakawiwoʻole (Rank - T-141st [UR])
And, last but not least, we have VuRa and Kaui Kama. The two people many in TJUN-ia want to succeed the most haven't had the best of times thus far. Their only real highlight thus far is qualifying for the Electrum Slam, as they have had little opportunities since. Let's hope that can change on Day 2 when they take on Lola Watt and Sophie Rouson of South Kohnhead.

TOMORROW'S MATCHES (Coverage Starts at 20:00 pm TST)
Court 1
Match 1: Jo Katsi (TJU, 32) vs Bee Aldrin (FAM)

Court 7
Match 1: Harold Crawley (TJU) vs Razaq Mazarim (NAZ)

Court 2
Match 3: Philippe Baloui (TJU) vs Vladimir Mikhailov (WSN)

Maybe Mattijana will go better

Kohnhead will be sending the same eight atheletes to Burges, in Mattijana as it did to Beçonailles which did not go very well for us. Let's hope the third clay tournament, and the last before Hamilton goes better. Each player will have their rank.

Mindy Waterford
Rank: 10

Waterford will head into this tournament as the four seed of the tournament, ranked 10th overall. She is the first Kohnhead player to crack the NSTT top 10 ever, and expectations are high after starting out her clay season with a quarterfinals loss. Waterford will play the winner of Elizabeth Bisher (176) from South Kohnhead, our inferior neighbor, and Eutaur Jordaniscus (208) from Diarcesia. Waterford will be the heavy favorite no matter who wins. Mindy depending on how she does here will have a chance to compete for the win at Hamilton as she is one of the best tennis players at this point and is still very young.

Theresa Waterford
Rank: 25

Theresa will come in as the 13 in the tournament and despite losing immediately in her most recent tournament her rank barely moved. She is good on clay, we now that based on how she did at Istria, she just needs to play mistake free. She will start out the tournament with a bye before facing either Deseret Weaverton (145) from Banjia or Tasya Han (260) from Filindostan. Theresa will be looking to make a statement here at Burges because of how poorly she did in Reucen.

Rodrick Uppatin
Rank: 46

Uppatin won a match, and lost a match in Reucen, and will be looking to do better in his second ever tier 1 tournament. He will be taking on Widya Hartati from Mengwi who will be competing for the first time in NSTT. This is a game Uppatin should easily win, as he comes into the tournament as the 23rd best competing.

Bartholomew Pole
Rank: 113

Is it finally Pole's time to shine? The answer is probably not especially after his embarrassing loss at Reucen. Despite his faults he will come in ranked number 44 at the tournament and should be the favorite against Samuel Howe of Croblade who is also competing in his first tournament. Pole has been working hard leading up to this tournament, hopefully it pays off.

Spencer Kohnhead/Marcus Hathwar (ETM)
Rank: 49 and Rank: 60

As part of the mixed doubles option, Spencer Kohnhead and Bradley Kohnface have been split up for the final two clay tournaments. The two will go with Marcus Hathwar from Electrum, and Jack Ho from Electrum as well. Kohnhead will go with the 60th ranked Hathwar which makes them the 12th best double in the tournament. Expectations are high, can they pull it off?

Bradley Kohnface/Jack Ho (ETM)
Rank: 49 and Rank: 41

Kohnface will go with Jack Ho who has played a tiny bit better than Marcus Hathwar this season as Ho is the 41st best double. Their rankings put them as the 10th best duo in the tournament, and Kohnface stresses he and Hathwar have been working on their communication and chemistry because those are key.

Riley Dovatin/Melissa Turnface
Rank: 114

After a disappointing start to the clay season, Dovatin and Turnface are back and will be ranked as the 23rd best duo in the tournament. Expectations are not the highest and if they win their first match, they will be playing Ho and Kohnface in their second which would mark the first time Kohnhead players, competed against each other.

Good luck to all athletes.

Domenica Pavoni (DCS) 7 1 7
Pablo Cedric Kilapkilap (FID) 6 6 5

Something different is with Domenica when she entered the court today. She's not even wearing her signature top hat. Upon taking her place, she's just stood there with her eyes closed, mouth agape, and shoulders slumped. It was one of the serene faces audiences has seen of her in a long time, especially in TV. The fact that she's such a quiet, reserved person today is a surprise.

But, she was prepared for this. That's what a champion looks like. She wanted to lead with conviction, not emotion. She was the better person, so she was ready to fight. She was not going to lie down, so she was not going to let herself be easily distracted. She was not going to let herself be scared off by the match or the situation. She was going to press on until she got to the next level.

Her practice sessions tended to be exhausting. If anything, these were going to make her more focused and productive. She felt she lacked a certain quality in her matches, was it a need to be more aggressive? No, she concluded. Her footwork was something she had to work on. She needed to be more confident on where she goes during a prolonged rally.

To reach that goal, she resolved to not give Pablo time to recover.

It wasn't easy to hold the lead in the first set. Her opponent proved to have a very aggressive style to the point that she rarely had the upper hand in second set. The match proved to be a battle of pace, strength, and stamina. Once Pablo started to tire out in the middle of the third, Domenica switched to a more patient and deliberate style and served her well to take it and win the game.

SPORTSNEWS! Mattijana Open Singles Qualification Over, Better than Expected?

The news was just in! North Alezia for some reason, qualifies for Mattijana Open's next stage. The first round turns out positively for us. Knowingly, we never even entered any other international tennis competition anywhere. Thus giving this moment as North Alezia's first dip into the International Tennis Tournament. The results? Somehow better than expected.

MATCH 1
Janet Riley (22) (ETM) 6 6
Ella Martiniara (NAZ) 4 1

Very good resistance put against Janet Riley of Electrum by Ella Martiniara on the first set. It's really appreciatable that we got 4 games, almost even getting that set. This is a rather good result even though it resulted on a loss for North Alezia. Even though Ella put her hardest fight, it still wasn't enough to satisfy her.

ELLA MARTINIARA:
"I think I can do better. I just need to practice harder. Hopefully, I can earn enough experience to return to more international competitions to come"

MATCH 2
Harina Maqqitani (NAZ) 4 3
Rafael Bautista (AQL) 6 6

We also can appreciate Harina Maqqitani's effort in this Match. Even though he has some problems with his leg way before competition and missing few practice back in Zafizamarrah, she continues to bring strong play here in Mattijana. Really good play from the other player as well. This also motivates Harina to return to international games one day.

HARINA MAQQITANI:
Eh. Loss is expected. But it's still surprising that I'm the one who practised less back home. Luckily, my other practice shows really well on this match. Really, I hope I can do well next time, maybe I'm going to Mattijana again? Who knows?

MATCH 3
Halima Fatty (BNJ) 6 6
Ishak Maraqqi (NAZ) 2 4

A good match from Maraqqi. There's some flaw in Ishak's game on the match, but he managed to pull it off and make it better. Maraqqi still needs to practice on closing his openings tho, but overall, it's a fine play from Maraqqi.
ISHAK MARAQQI:
Well, I'm pretty dissapointed in myself. I realized I opened too much opening that my opponent used that as an advantage. I think that's what I'm focusing for other matches.

MATCH 4
Razaq Mazarim (NAZ) 2 6 6
Harold Crawley (TJU) 6 4 3

A really beautiful win for our first time! Really beautiful! When hope almost lost the light on the first set, we somehow bounce back and finally won that match after the 3rd set! Which means that Mazarim will play on to the next round.

RAZAQ MAZARIM:
A really crazy experience for me. I guess that practice paid off... I'm so proud to even getting to this stage! What a crazy day it is. I hope I can do well on the next round. I hope I can do well for Shamal Al-Aliziyyat (North Alezia in Arabic). This is definitely an experience for me.

North Alezia is certainly a newbie at NSTT. But hopefully, we can learn how to compete by playing in the Mattijana Open. How will Razaq Mazarim hold on? Stay tuned for more ABA Sportsnews to come!

Full Slate of Aqualias Qualify for Mattijana Singles Draw
BURGES, Mtj.—Following an underwhelming performance at Les Championnats in Beçonailles, the four singles players now familiar to virtually all of Aqual again seek to make deep runs into a Tier 1 tournament. Today in Mattijana, all four Aqualias managed to move past the qualifying round (albeit three with bated breath). Detailed results from all matches below.

Bartolo Sabanero (31) (AQL) 6 6 6
Saxton Jale (SAP) 3 7 1

The only seeded Aqualia in Mattijana, Bartolo Sabanero (31st), also the only Aqualia playing on a show court today, fended off a challenge from Saxton Jale of Solarampa. In the Stadijo Juliana, Sabanero began the match well both on serve and on the return, putting enough pressure on Jale's serve to break twice without receiving the same treatment from the Solarampa player.

After comfortably sealing the first set 6-3, he dropped his first service game of the second set for the first time in the match, with abysmal errors from either wing. Jale got an early lead by consolidating on the next game, with Sabanero continuing in bad form. Regardless, he managed to pull out the hold in the next game for 1-2 but could not get the break back. Serving down 1-3, 0-30, Sabanero served his first ace of the set before an impressive cross-court forehand winner off the next return led his recovery in the game and denied an opportunity for Jale to clinch a double break. The player from Solarampa attempted to change things up by going for a serve-and-volley approach in the next game, but Sabanero quickly took advantage of this for some relatively easy passing shots to rally to three games all. However, the Aqualia could not keep up this strategy obviously going into his own service game, and evidently could not keep up his momentum, either, dropping the crucial seventh game on Jale's first break point following deuce. With Jale staying at the baseline, Sabanero struggled to exploit the holes in the Solarampa player's service game and instead allowed for the consolidation. Serving down 3-5 to stay in the set, the Aqualian thirty-first seed seemed stone cold in his surprising hold to love, although nerves from the other side of the net likely played a factor as well. This was even more evident with Jale attempting to serve out the set: two double faults and two unforced errors later, it was back on serve in the second. However, now that the set itself was not on the line, Jale finally seemed to loosen up, hitting returns much more freely to once again break serve, before Sabanero mirrored this on Jale's serve to force the tiebreak. There, the player from Solarampa looked quite impressive from all sides of the court, both on the serving and receiving ends, carrying the set with 7-3 in the tiebreaker.

However, Sabanero is not seeded in this tournament without reason, and he showed that in the decider, with a dominant performance on serve, dismissing the only break point of the set readily with a one-two punch whilst breaking twice himself. Surely a solid takeaway from this match is that Sabanero's win percentage on serve will play a critical role in this and future tournaments; although it is true that clay is the surface with the most breaks of serve, the Aqualian seed will do well to keep them to a minimum (he was broken four times in the second set, which he lost, but never broken in the first and third sets, which he won). He will face compatriot Daniel Cervantes in the first round of the main draw.

Daniel Cervantes (AQL) 7 5 6
Sophie Bellavie (NEG) 5 7 1

Meanwhile, on Court 2, Daniel Cervantes was taking on Sophie Bellavie on singles day of qualifying. Both of the first sets were intense struggles between these two players, with several trades of breaks to begin and end the first set. The Neu Engollon player dropped serve first, but Cervantes was soon to follow, before again breaking serve for a 2-1 lead. Cervantes was then first to hold serve, methodically planning out some wonderful points. Bellavie, however, soon followed with a service hold, still trailing by two games to three. The next four games were all holds for the respective serving player, before Bellavie managed to break Cervantes to prevent him from serving out the set at 5-4. However, the player from Neu Engollon failed to consolidate the break, with forced errors from the net giving the Aqualia the break back. Serving for the set, Cervantes set up some brilliant points off the returns to manage a 7-5 victory in the first set.

The first four games of the second set were all relatively simplistic holds, before Cervantes this time broke first by coming to the net to cut off the angles from his opponent. However, Bellavie rallied quickly to manage some impressive winners on the run to break back for three games apiece. The Neu Engollon player then was able to score some points off of service winners to hold 4-3, preceding a unique pattern from both players of winning two successive games via a break/hold or hold/break pattern which ultimately manifested in Bellavie forcing the pressure back onto Cervantes, serving to stay in the set at 5-6. He failed to do so at 15-40, simply giving his opponent too easy of a shot repeatedly.

This seemingly ignited a fire in the Aqualia, who thereafter pushed his balls progressively deeper and wider into the court, giving Bellavie virtually nothing to work with. On both serve and return, Cervantes managed to inject pace into his balls and not only overpowered but overwhelmed his opponent with sharp angles and clever technique. He handily won the third and final set by a 6-1 margin, going on to win the match 7-5, 5-7, 6-1. Although hopefully he can begin the match with this match vigor in the future, it bodes well for him that he can manage this late in the match as well, especially against a player like Bartolo Sabanero, who he will face in the first round and who also won in three sets today.

Matéu Virxiliu (AQL) 7 4 11
Victoria Martin (CRB) 5 6 9

The second match on Court 2 to also feature an Aqualia was that of Matéu Virxiliu's Mattijana debut. Opening the first set, both he and Victoria Martin relied on holding serve, with the first break of serve finally occurring in the eleventh game when Virxiliu ended a fourteen-shot rally with a clear volley winner off the Croblade player's drop shot. Virxiliu once again utilized a much stronger serve than typical to clinch the set 7-5.

The second set was the almost complete polar opposite of the first. The first five games were all breaks of serve, with the first hold coming in the sixth from Virxiliu to go up 4-2. Martin soon followed suit for 4-3 before again breaking Virxiliu's serve off a series of awkward bounces on the lines. With renewed momentum, the player from Croblade managed to fall into a good rhythm on serve, holding comfortably at 40-15 before seamlessly transitioning to receiving, managing to break the Aqualia's serve for the second time in a row to win the set 6-4 after four straight games.

And Martin did not let up the momentum from the second set when heading into the third (something Virxiliu, on the other hand, has been prone to do throughout his tournaments), winning the first three games handily, including a third consecutive break at 30-40. However, Virxiliu is known as much for his fierce determination as for his seemingly temperamental (lack of) consistency, and would not go down without a fight in the final set, finally managing to hold serve after four deuces, preventing the double break. Martin barely managed to hold for 4-1, but was ill prepared to successfully return after the next change of ends, with the Aqualia holding for 4-2. With some refound energy, Virxiliu was darting across the court, not letting any of Martin's shots past, enough to break back before holding for an even 4-all in the final set. Despite dropping the last three games, the Croblade player was unfazed in the next service game, holding to fifteen. Virxiliu managed successfully to serve to stay in the match at 4-5, forcing the pressure back onto Martin, who couldn't withstand Virxiliu's aggressive attacks from all around the court (with one winner even from well within No Man's Land). Now serving for the match, the Aqualia was stopped in this pursuit with equally aggressive groundstrokes from Martin to equalize at six games all. With there being no final set tiebreak, the struggle continued for a two-game lead. Martin struck first, holding after the eighth deuce (the longest game of the set up to then), shifting the pressure again onto Virxiliu to serve to stay in the qualifying match. He did so with relative ease, although moreso due to a handful of errors from his opponent than due to his own merits. Virxiliu then initiated five consecutive games with a break of serve at 7-all, 30-40. The eventual hold? Virxiliu, in the twentieth game, to clinch the set eleven games to nine and progress to the main draw 7-5, 4-6, 11-9. Although Virxiliu has been known to warm up throughout the duration of any given tournament, it will surely be a challenge to not be fatigued in his next match tomorrow against Lucien le Floch of Reçueçn.

Harina Maqqitani (NAZ) 4 3
Rafael Bautista (AQL) 6 6

Rafael Bautista began his campaign in Mattijana with a decent victory over Harina Maqqitani on Court 5. Although the margin was neither very close, as seen in Matéu Virxiliu's match, nor completely dominant, it was nevertheless a good and much-needed win for the Aqualia who has struggled the most on the international tour despite being unquestionably the greatest player on Aqual's national tour. Bautista did not begin exceptionally well, but managed to win points in the crucial moments, limiting Maqqitani to just one break out of ten total opportunities, whilst the Aqualia broke twice out of only five chances in the first set. Bautista performed notably better later in the set and at "clutch" moments in each game (when the scoreline is tied at either 30-30 or deuce, and winning the point provides a game/break point). After breaking to go up 4-3, the remainder of the set remained on serve for the Aqualian player to win it 6-4.

In the second set, Bautista, having warmed up from the first set, played even better in the second, pouncing earlier in the set to break Maqqitani's serve for 2-1, before serving well and limiting the player from North Alezia to only a single break point opportunity, which he saved at 3-2, 40-AD. The middle part of the set remained on serve, before Bautista began to closed it out with a strong break of serve at 5-3, exploiting Maqqitani's struggles with good movement across the court for several clear winners (reportedly due to a leg injury some time ago, coupled with a subsequent loss in practice time). Bautista advances, 6-4, 6-3, to face Livinia Moore of Electrum on Court 6 in the first round.

All news from the Mattijana Open, including Carla Tormo' and Lara Navarro's qualifying match in doubles, to come as usual tomorrow in our next publication of the Toboso Chronicle as well as online and across all our digital platforms. Certainly a great deal of attention will be due the blockbuster meeting of Sabanero and Cervantes in only the first round of an already quite exciting tournament here in Burges.

Qualifying Match: Catherine James and Heather Long
Court #6
TennisKlubBurges
@6:05 pm

John Galt and Julia Alexander told Sarah Lee Vale about Belle Nichols’ match against Krisna Wibawa Tanton on Court 8. Here’s what they said:

Now, the first set was kind of rough. It looked like Lulubelle was about to be broken early, but she held it together. Then, it was tied at 5, and that’s when Belle caught her big break.

I was surprised. She’s a lot more athletic than she looks.

She won the first 7-5. Then, she does the same thing in the second when it’s tied at 3 apiece. That seventh game lasted about 20 minutes, but Belle broke his serve. She coasted through, up until that last point.

Then what happened?

She went berserk is what happened. You’d a thought she just won the final in Hamilton the way she jumped up and down.

Did she go back to the hotel?

I think so, It was a long couple of sets.

@6:15 pm

Fats Sullivan and Brianna Van Pelt told Janelle Hood and Sarah Lee Vale about Kendra Jackson’s match against Ralph Henschel. This is what they said:

The score makes it look a lot closer than it was. They were even until that seventh game, then Jackson went for broke. If she had lost that game, she might have tired out, but she broke Henschel’s serve. He tried to break back, but Kendra was having none of it.

The second set was another story. They both had their moments, but it was all even. It looked like it might go into a tie-break, but Kendra broke him again. He looked exhausted after losing that final service game. Jackson ended the match with an ace.

Hey Fats, isn’t that…?

@7:30 pm

The PA announcer declares Catherine James winner of the second set. Heather Long has broken James in the final game of the first while James broke Long late in the second.

Ramsey Lewis and Kelly Clark joined the Andromeda contingent as James elected to take a bathroom break before the 3rd.

“Nice to see you two out,” Janelle Hood said.

“Same with you two,” Lewis said.

“How are they doing,” Clark asked.

“Well, it’s tied,” Galt said. “But take a look and tell me who’s going to win.”

James looked as if she had just climbed a mountain while Long was bouncing on the balls of her feet, waiting for just the right moment to serve.

“You know, your uncle was like that, Johnny.” As a young player, Lewis had played against Galt in the twilight of his tennis career. “Not quite as sprightly, but he was hard to beat.”

“I’m sure Heather is reinvigorated by your presence, Mr. Lewis,” Galt said.

“Yeah,” Van Pelt says. “Because you’re here, Heather can now say she’s in with the IN crowd.”

“She goes where the in crowd goes,” Sullivan adds.

@8:30 pm

It’s match point. Long is up 40-15 and rifles a serve past James. The two approach the net and shake hands. After waving to the spectators on Court 6, Long runs to the locker room with a spring in her step.

“Is she dancing,” Lewis asks.

“I don’t blame her, ‘cause…”

(With apologies to Dobie Gray & the Ramsey Lewis Trio)

Galt starts singing.

“She breezes up and down the court.”

Fats Sullivan joins in.

“She gets respect in NS Sports.”

“Other players may imitate her,”

Sullivan joins Galt.

“But she knows that she is greater.”

Ramsey Lewis shakes his head.

DEUCE: Qualifying Chaos Kicks Us Off!

Postby TJUN-ia » Wed Jul 01, 2020 5:50 am

Welcome back to Burges, Mattijana where the format os going to kill us all. Only the Top 16 seeds in the singles draw got a bye into round one, meaning everyone else had to play today. Stange, but it did produce chaos. Here's how we fared...

Court 1
Bee Aldrin (FAM) bt Joe Katsi (32) (3-6, 7-5, 6-2)
The only seeded player to lose today was, unfortunately, the Kat of Horizon. He actually won the first set convincingly, but Bee Aldrin of Freedom and memes fought back brilliantly to win this match. Is Joe Katsi actually good? Maybe another Grand Slam could bring back his luck...

Court 7
Razaq Mazarim (NAZ) bt Harold Crawley (2-6, 6-4, 6-3)
Another tournament, another loss by The Crawler. But I'm not going to criticize him for this. He won the first set convincingly, but Razaq Mazarim wanted to get a victory for his homeland of North Alezia and he certainly did that. Will Crawley actually win a game in the NSTT? We will see...

Court 2
Philippe Baloui (TJU) bt Vladimir Mikhailov (WSN) (6-3, 6-4)
It wasn't all bad news. L'artiste remains to fight another day after taking down Vladimir Mikhailov of Waisnor in straight sets. After the chaos of earlier in the day, it was nice to see Baloui bring back some stability into TJUN-ian tennis. He has a big match-up tomorrow at the Stadijo Juliana against 27th-seed and local Ajla Vesnic.

Theresa Waterford (TJU) vs Deseret Weaverton (BNJ)
No. Just no. We do not claim to own this being who has hurt us many times before. I know this was a mistake but...I refuse to see this being represented by a TJUN-ian flag...

Unpleasant Start at Mattijana

Burges, Mattijana - The third Clay Court tournament, Mattijana Open has started in 30 June 2020 or 1 July 2020 Pemecutan Time. From all Pemecutan players that joined in the tournament, only 2 of them that have to play in Qualifying Round and both of them are from Single Competition. Unfortunately, both of them were defeated by their opponents which makes them failed to advance further. Komang Agus Artawan was facing Rog Ion Tralito from Natanians and Nots. Artawan played quite good in the first set. He was able to playing on the same field as Tralito. But he has to admit Tralito's superiority and loose the first set by 4-6. In the second set, Artawan was definitely under pressure. Tralito was playing better than the first set and Artawan unable to catch up. Although Artawan able to win in 2 games but he lost 2-6 to Tralito.

Another single to play in qualifying round is Ayu Ratih Kemalasari. She met AAUGCC from Ebola and SARA. Kemalasari try to play her best in the first set. She was able to tackle AAUGCC's shoots and even wins several games. But she sometimes rather off and out of focus which give advantage to Ebolan player. AAUGCC eventually took the first set by 6-4. In the second set, Kemalasari playing have become more worst. She continued to make errors. The situation give an ease for AAUGCC. The Ebolan player finally win the second set and advance to the next round.

With the result, there are 4 Pemecutanian players left in the tournament, 2 each in Single and Double. In the second match day, Single Competition will.playing it's First Round while Double will begin the Qualifying Round. Fortunately, both Pemecutanian double pairs got bye into the First Round so both of them doesn't need to play tomorrow. While, 2 Pemecutanian singles will start their journey in the tournament. 3rd seed, Ngurah Putra Muliawan will be facing Gracelyn Corinly from South Kohnhead. And 11th seed, Maria Sophia Lubis will have to play with Burama Fadika from Banija. As usual, the tournament will be broadcast by GBC and SBC in Pemecutan. The live match will be started at 12am July 2 Pemecutan Time with relay show will be broadcast at noon.

Good start to Mattijana

The start to the tournament in Burges went better than our start at Reucen, as Kohnhead players competing would go 2-0.

Rodrick Uppatin (23) (KHD) 6 6 6
Widya Hartati (MWI) 3 7 1

Uppatin took on Hartati from Mengwi who is unranked having never played in an NSTT tournament before. Uppatin won the first set pretty handily, but to Hartati's credit a third set was forced as Uppatin would lose the second 6-7. Fortunately he rebounded winning the last set 6-1 and is now moving on to the next round. Uppatin is the 23 seed at the tournament, and will face 101st ranked Martha McNeil from The Grearish Union, a nation we know quite well from other sporting events.

Samuel Howe (CRB) 4 6 2
Bartholomew Pole (KHD) 6 3 6

Pole looked good in his win over unranked Samuel Howe, and although he dropped a set he deserved to win. Will this finally be the tournament, we see what Bartholomew Pole was supposed to be on his NSTT tour? Probably not but he has a chance to prove himself against 41st ranked Carmichael Brown from Electrum. A win against Brown would do wonders for his rank, and quite possibly his career, as he has not been able to establish himself as someone who can be trusted as our 4th single at tier 1 events, and some say Chad Cilsertin should become a full time player.

Grassroot development is a common factor in the success of a legacy of success for all types of sports, including tennis. With strong awareness of the vital importance of the national tennis team's life, detailed planning has been put in place for the smooth journey of implementing these aspirations.

The definition of grassroots development without full attention can be considered a failure. These factors are also seen as impeding the development of young talent to continue to shine. Therefore, for the years 2019 to 2025, a drastic action has been taken by the Tennis Association of Springmont (TAS) to find a solution to the problem. One of the fastest, most efficient, effective and fastest ways is to collaborate with the Tennis Association overseas to implement the best module for the TAS grassroots development project.

Among the plans discussed are the development of potential young talent from the age of 9 to 18 years old by engaging them in international match sessions. Although there are constraints from the fund's standpoint, various initiatives and strategies need to be developed to address them.

Lastly, these are moments of continuation of TAS's superior legacy. A glorious narrative that will never stop. An aspiration that is not just words that TAS managers have successfully applied to grassroots development now clearly has a positive, productive and progressive impact as TAS progresses.

Andromeda Sports Connection
Mattijanan Open
Opening Round
11:30 pm

ASC tennis correspondent Lucius Webb had an incredibly busy day covering the singles matches at the Club Burges. He sums up what happened.

WEBB: If the Preliminaries of the Mattijanan Open were the coming out party for Andromeda Tennis, today was when the carriage changes back into a pumpkin for our top singles players.

Cut to Centre Court highlights.

WEBB: The first singles march involved Kendra Jackson facing 2-seeded Andrew Simmons of Electrum. Despite the disparity in rank, Jackson held her own, losing only two service breaks in the match.

Frankly, it’s an honor just to be able to play on Centre Court against such quality competition. The fans here have been so nice to us since we arrived that it was, in many ways, like a home match. It’s also a good learning experience when you can learn on the court from one of the best. It was definitely a trial fire, but we can take the heat.

WEBB: The following match on Centre Court featured another Andromedan, this time facing top-seeded Mattijana native Dominica Lisicki. Heather Long didn’t seem intimidated.

I guess it’s that spirit of Jelenara that’s a part of this country that made this match so special. There was one point where it almost seemed that the fans were disappointed that our match or Kendra’s match had to end. I understand that Dominica is the home favorite, but the fans also seemed to just love competitive tennis. I personally found that energizing.

Cut to the Nichols match in the Stadijo Juliana.

WEBB: One player who couldn’t take the heat was Belle Nichols. After winning her second set 6-0, she collapsed into her chair and had trouble getting up to start the third set. Midway through the third set medical professionals were on stand-by, but Nichols insisted on finishing out the match. I talked with Belle in the locker room afterwards.

The truth is, I was just exhausted. Jean van der Kloor was just a better player in the end. He had the stamina, which counts more than anything.

We may be spent at the end, Lucius, but we don’t quit. Even if we can’t win, we don’t quit.

WEBB: That was the singles roundup. For doubles, let’s go to Maggie Cho.

Maggie Cho voices over the Ramsey Lewis/Kelly Clark match.

CHO: Today just wasn’t the day for most Andromedans in Burges. Ramsey Lewis and Kelly Clark lost to the Filinostan duo of Pablo Cedric Kilapkilap & Tasya Han in straight sets. We caught up with Lewis and Clark after the match.

The truth is, that time may have just caught up with us. Had we come out into the NSTT a few years ago, we might have done better, but the truth is that this new era of Andromeda tennis may require a different type of player.

Ramsey and I are still going to Hamilton, but after that, we’ll see.

CHO: The other doubles match for our side pitted Janelle Hood and Sarah Lee Vale against Banijans Aron Menkir/Kassa Berihu. This was a bright spot in an otherwise dismal day as Hood and Vale won 6-1, 6-0.

Over the past few days we chose to find our center, as it were, and avoid too many distractions. Much of what we have to say was said on the court.

What we will say about off the court is that Janelle and I have fully embraced the spirit of Jelenara that Mattijana is known for. We’ve had a few distractions, but many more encouraging experiences since we arrived last week. It’s the same sense of friendliness and generosity we see back home.

Cut back to Chu.

From what Sarah Lee Vale has said, she and Jenelle Hood hope to continue winning matches and embracing Mattijanan culture in the days to come. This is Maggie Cho with the Andromeda Sports Connection.

Aqualias Set Up Blockbuster Second Round Night in Mattijana
BURGES, Mtj.—Two singles players from Aqual will take to centre court, Stadijo Zentrale, tomorrow in the Second Round after convincing wins today in the first round of the main draw. Detailed results from all matches, including the highly anticipated all-Aqualia Sabanero/Cervantes clash, below.

Livinia Moore (19) (ETM) 6 6
Rafael Bautista (AQL) 4 2

Rafael Bautista, who has not come close to the level of play he so easily reaches in domestic tournaments, was certainly challenged in this match against Electrum's Livinia Moore, the nineteenth seed. The first set began without a preference to either player, with four consecutive holds, before Bautista actually broke first to go up 3-2 before consolidating without much resistance for a 4-2 lead. From thereon in the match, however, the Aqualia looked almost lost on the court, while Moore was quite composed and stuck to the game plan, cruising to four straight games and two breaks in the first set with winners that Bautista normally should have been able to return easily. In the second set, Bautista showed only minimal improvement, picking up two service holds early in the set before again being completely shut out the last four games. If he hopes to have any kind of a decent showing in the upcoming Slam, he will certainly need to get his head in the game as well as a better strategy for closing out sets.

Lucien Le Floch (29) (RCN) 1 5
Matéu Virxiliu (AQL) 6 7

The true test of the depth of Matéu Virxiliu's game was today against twenty-ninth seeded Lucien Le Floch of Reçueçn, just a day after Virxiliu's thrilling (yet no doubt grueling) match yesterday which ended 11-9 in the final set. He certainly proved what he is capable of when he properly harnesses his explosive, energetic game in the first set, blowing Le Floch out of the water for a dominant first set six games to one, managing to break serve thrice with unrelenting attacks on the Reçueçn player's serves whilst doing just enough with his own serve to maintain a hold each time. The second set, however, proved much more competitive, with Le Floch actually breaking first in the third game off a topspin second serve from the Aqualia that sat up perfectly for a backhand return winner down the line. Virxiliu didn't manage to break back until three games later, when at 3-2 0-40 his opponent sailed a forehand long to equalize the second set. Neither player played very well on the receiving end for a bit of a spell during the mid-to-late section of the set, with it remaining on serve until Le Floch for the second time served to stay in the match (having done so successfully earlier at 5-4). On Virxiliu's second match point, he got an easy put-away smash at the net to propel him into the second round, 6-1, 7-5.

This match was very impressive for Virxiliu for a number of reasons. First, it shows that he can deal with tiring matches relatively well, considering his hours-long qualifier, which will be absolutely crucial to success in a deep run. Second, he once again demonstrated how his game is nearly unstoppable when he is in the groove, as evidenced by his dominant showing in the first set. Third, his second set, although not as comfortably won as the first, shows growth in that he managed to hold onto the set despite a dip in his level, whereas previously that would have cost him several games at the least. If he can continue to build on all three of these points, he will certainly put up a good fight against his next opponent, fourth seed Mindy Waterford of Kohnhead.

Bartolo Sabanero (31) (AQL) 7 6
Daniel Cervantes (AQL) 6 2

Easily the most anticipated match of the night in Toboso and throughout Aqual was of course the showdown between Bartolo Sabanero, receiving the 31st seed in this tournament, and Daniel Cervantes. And what a show indeed in the first set! Early trades of breaks preceded a highly dramatic seventh game, in which Sabanero finally outlasted Cervantes on serve after twelve minutes to shift the pressure once again onto his elder at 4-3. Cervantes' own serve looked absolutely unshakeable in the first set, getting 79% of first serves in and 83% of them won, although his second serve was less reliable at only 56% of points won. He managed to hold all of his last four service games in the set with relative ease, although Sabanero also refused to let up on serve with some excellent shots with impeccable placement, painting the lines with the racquet as his brush and the ball his paint. With the remainder of the set on serve, the natural conclusion to such a dramatic opening would of course be a first set tiebreak. With Bartolo Sabanero serving first, a solid service motion led to an easy down-the line winner off the return, while he managed to counteract Cervantes' strong serves by returning them with as much pace and flatness directly back to him. Sabanero thusly reaped the first minibreak, giving him just enough of an edge to inject a litle more confidence into his swings on both the serve and return. Additionally, he took advantage of Cervantes' much weaker second serve to gain an even larger minibreak advantage, and he clinched the set with a cross-court topspin return winner on the stretch, 7-6(3).

With such a good showing in the tiebreaker, it seemed like Sabanero had reached his peak performance of the match. However, he was just getting started, before truly exemplifying his clay court prowess in the second set, lambasting Cervantes with incredibly technical shots and turning defense into offense with well-timed slides and devastating drop shots. He allowed Cervantes only two games (both on serve) in the second set, and it at times appeared almost as if Sabanero were using it like a practice session (the two have practiced together on occasion, after all) for his next match, which will be against the second seed, Andrew Simmons of Electrum. A 6-2 margin in the second set against the number two Aqualia nationally certainly won't dampen his hopes of pulling off a major upset tomorrow in the Round of 32.

Riley Dovatin/Melissa Turnface (KHD) 6 6
Carla Tormo/Lara Navarro (AQL) 3 1

In doubles qualifying, Carla Tormo and Lara Navarro were simply outclassed by their opponents, the Kohnhead team of Riley Dovatin and Melissa Turnface. Although they played decently well in the first set, they failed to have that little bit extra that they needed, and seemed almost completely out of it in the second set, as if there were something on their minds. In their post-match press conference, they both, abnormally, cut their responses short and the interview itself lasted only a few minutes; even Tormo, who usually is coolly gracious even in defeat, seemed as if she were not present at all. Hopefully whatever is bothering them so is quickly resolved in time for the Hamilton International.

We here at the Toboso Chronicle invite you to again join us for a day which promises to be full of tennis excitement as both of our remaining singles players go head-to-head against players in the top ten, and Sabanero and Qualo Tabos return to the doubles court against Springmont's Jo Royalwood and Bob Lighford on Court 3 here in Mattijana. Full results to come tomorrow online and in the print edition.

Still on Track

Burges, Mattijana - In the second match day of Mattijana Open, Single Competition played their First Round match while Double Competition just entered it's Qualifying Round. On the match day only 2 Pemecutanian players that playing and both are in Single Competition. They are 3rd seed Ngurah Putra Muliawan and 11th seed Maria Sophia Lubis. While both Pemecutanian pairs got bye into the First Round.

In the first match, Maria Sophia Lubis met Banijan player, Burama Fadika. The first set went very tight. Fadika gives much difficult for Lubis. Both players played in the same level and neither wants to give up easily. The first set went into 5-5 deuce. And Lubis work hard to take the next two games to win the set. Beginning the second set, Lubis change her playing style and it's quite shocked for Fadika. Lubis lead far by 4-0 before Fadika able to take a chance and win a set. Lubis suppressed Fadika's playing and able to take the 6th game. But Fadika didn't give up. He took the 7th game to halt Lubis victory. But his intention can't last long. Lubis took the 8th game to win the set and the match.

In another match, 3rd seed Ngurah Putra Muliawan faced Gracelyn Corinly from South Kohnhead. The match went quite fast. Muliawan didn't give a chance for Corinly to developed her playing style and keep her under pressure. His strategy fruited with an easy win in the first set by 6-1. Corinly style looks depressed when entering the second set. Although she try to rise up and give much of her effort to stay in the tournament. But Muliawan is giving his best performance. Even though Corinly able to steal 2 games but it is not enough. Muliawan finally took the second set by 6-2 and win the match.

The next match day will continue the Second Round for Single Competition and First Round for Double Competition. 4 Pemecutanian players will be playing, 2 singles and 2 double pairs. In Single Competition, 3rd seed Ngurah Putra Muliawan will be playing against Bianca Arendt from Gergary. While Maria Sophia Lubis will meet Arthur Leloup from Recuecn. While in Double Competition, 3rd seed Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati will be facing Javier Carrasco/Tomas de Torquemada from Big Carencia. And 5th seed Eka Putrawan/Dwi Ratmadi will have to play against Vuyani Rabada/Kaui Kamakawiwo'ole from Tjun-ia. As usual the match will broadcast live by GBC (Giri Broadcasting Company) at 12:00 am 3 July 2020 and relay match will be broadcast at 03:00 pm 3 July 2020.

DEUCE: 1st Round Drama, Qualifying Success

Postby TJUN-ia » Thu Jul 02, 2020 7:23 am

The Mattijana Open had already seen some chaos due to the singles qualifying. Now, as the singles enter Round 1, it was time for the doubles to experience this madness too. Day 2 looked to be just as chaotic as the first and here is how TJUN-ia got on...

SINLGLES
Stadijo Juliana
All of TJUN-ia's singles action occurred on "Show Court 3". The Stadijo Juliana was one of the newer venues at TennisKlubBurges and is known for having a more civil atmosphere than the other two show courts. Phillipe Baloui looked to take advantage of this as he took on the local 27th seed Ajla Vesnic in front of a majority-Mattijanan crowd with some noticeable pockets of fans from other nations, including TJUN-ia. The first set between these two was certainly a bit tight, but Vesnic held on to take it 6-4. The 2nd set was even tighter as L'artiste tried his best to come back into the match. It ended up heading to a tiebreaker that was just as tight as before until the local final broke to win the match in tight straight sets. L'artiste may have fallen here, but he certainly tried his best and will be hoping to impress at the Hamilton International.
Ajla Vesnic (MTJ, 27) bt Phillipe Baloui (6-4, 7-6(10-8))

The other match was towards the evening in Burges, as 10th seed Jean van de Kloor took on Belle Nicholls from The Andromeda Island Group. This match would turn out to be quite strange indeed. The first was fine enough, with de Kloor coming through to take it 6-4. But Nicholls bounced back to not only take Set 2 but to shut out de Kloor of Toropo. Jean just couldn't find his rhythm and Nicholls certainly took advantage. But then a major thing became apparent - Belle had used a lot of energy in that shutout and she was tired. Jean took advantage of this to shut out Nicholls and take this match, but he certainly didn't like it at all. He felt as though he had won on a fluke and knew he had to do better in order to go deeper into the tournament. He will play another late match tomorrow - this time at the Stadijo Alex Dimitrov against Martha McNeil of The Gearish Union.
Jean van der Kloor (TJU, 10) vs Belle Nicholls (AIG) (6-4, 0-6, 6-0)

DOUBLES
Court 4
Due to scheduling, the first TJUN-ian match-up chronologically was actually on Court 4, as a "Sibling Derby" took place early in the day. The 16th-seeded Li Bo twins of Kim and Mei took on Freedom and memes' Singhs of Dholu and Bholu. The Singh Brothers surprised many by taking the first set, as their style of play was difficult for the Li Bo twins to get used to. At first. Then the twins went on the offensive and crushed the Singhs in the next two sets - 6-2, 6-1. There was no remorse, the job had to be done. The will go to Court 6 tomorrow to take on Evgeny Kondratenko and Oleg Vlasov of Waisnor, who was considered the "17th seeds" by the organisers. This will certainly be a good match.
Kim Li Bo/Mei Li Bo (TJU, 16) bt Dholu Singh/Bholu Singh (FAM) (3-6, 6-2, 6-1)

Court 12
And finally, while L'artiste was playing Vesnic, VuRa and Kaui Kama were also in action. They were taking on Lola Watt and Sophie Rouson of South Kohnhead and were looking for a little bit of revenge after losing to the other SKH pairing (Mary Owenter/Rowley Timple) at the Istria Open a few weeks ago. They took Set 1 convincingly but Watt and Rouson certainly challenged them in Set 2. Only a late break for the TJUN-ians gave them their first victory in quite a while. They will play on Court 1 tomorrow as they take on the 5th seeds from Pemecutan - Eka Putrawan and Dwi Ratmadi.
Vuyani Rabada/Kaui Kamakawiwo'ole (TJU) vs Lola Watt/Sophie Rouson (SKH) (6-3, 7-5)
