A raindrop fell in the gray coat, a last attempt to get under the small ceiling was frustrated by the crowd that had already claimed that space. A thunder preceded the bus, getting inside was difficult, but once there the rest was assured, a lone seat besides a window was vacant, and there he found his rest.
With cellphone on hands and headphones on ears he could enjoy the trip for some time. The match started to play. The initial minutes were nothing but several failures in scoring, one desperate attempt to hit from the middle of the field was done by a frustrated Simo. The first half ended with an unforeseen goal from Hank Andrews, he passed through the field with a slow but gracious pace and managed to hit the goal with just a second before Kondor tried to steal the ball.
The second half was a pathetic attempt to score and avoid the humiliation of losing to “some seniles” as Berka described them during training. The seniles got out of there with a victory while the Balqese team was left with nothing but a lesson to never underestimate older people.
As the destination was finally there he had to get out of the bus. The Central Bus Station was a magnificent building, adapted from the old Royal Stables the Victorian style and plaques remembered the days of old. The outside was rainy too, but nothing that a quick visit to a shop nearby didn’t solve. After crossing the avenue and the park the Train Station was in sight, it looked somewhat more modern and always has been a Train Station.
The waiting period was five minutes, people went from a side to another without looking around. The wood bench wasn’t very comfortable, but it was better than staying up. Finally the train arrived, and with it the old and serious Hugo Stariq. He was wearing the old green jacket that he received from his father and a suit beneath it, he didn’t smile or said anything when he was complimented, just nodded his head.
— So, how was the trip?
Nothing but silence proceeded. In the outside a taxi was already waiting, as instructed the driver had the news on the radio. Five minutes of reports about grain production went on before the sport session, when the last match was mentioned the old man had the will to speak.
— You managed to lost.
— We can’t always win.
— We always win. I have fought five wars for this country and my father fought ten before me. We never lost one battle!
That wasn’t true, but it was better to don’t mention this detail.
— This isn’t a war.
— Yet you manage to disappoint the nation. When the capitalists start the war your generation is lost, mark my words!
He had that memorized after hearing it for the twelfth time.
— So, how mom is going?
— Cooking and talking, as she has done for the last fifty years.
They arrived in the asylum, the nurse guided them to his father’s room, both of them stood there alone, the few baggage brought was soon in the wardrobe.
— So, did you get the tickets?
— Yes, Sir.
— I don’t know what you are planning, but if it’s illegal…
— It isn’t.
— Good, poor old Miklos would be held responsible if it was.
He laughed, Miklos used to prank him when he was a boy, maybe it was time for retribution.
— What are you going to do in that country?
— It isn’t for me, it’s for a friend that I am helping.
— Why?
He kept in silence for some time. He never thought much about that, maybe he just liked the foreign girl, maybe he just had nothing better to do.
— I don’t know, I just want to.
— Hope the judge understand. Now turn on the television and bring me something to drink.

"A hard fought battle against the Marauders, think the side deserved to take a point off the Empire but it is not the end of the World. Means the Wanderers do have to keep an eye over their shoulder for Eraman trying a last grasp at snatching second from them. Their rush back up the table just goes to show how vital grabbing a win over in their place really was. It could very well end up being the difference between the two sides as we enter the final stretch of games."

"Yeah, the side played very well and it would have been uite a fair result for things to have ended level in Torgos the same way they did in Valanora. However the Marauders do have Laborious Hawk and when that man has his sights on winning a match, you are going to be hard pressed to try and find a way to stop him and his team from doing so. Makes me wonder why neither CA Paulinthal nor Tani tried to get him from Zozi during the transfer window. Though given all the different clubs that he has played for, I wonder if he would have even considered a move into Pasarga."

"The world may never know the answer to that question, perhaps again in twenty or so years when it is time for him to move again we shall see. However it is quite time to focus on the present and not dream scenarios. The Wanderers will need to bounce back quickly from this defeat and not let it bet them again. They have a difficult trip to Bluiji to make, a side that has been making its mark in the group. The side needs to refocus, as they still need to take care of the fixtures ahead of them if they want to make a return to the Finals. They have put in a lot of hard work over the last year, this is the time to see it out to its conclusion and not drop the ball atfinish line. line."

"You are right. The side should see themselves as having improved enough over the last two years that they have been able to play level with the Marauders thrice in the last year. That is no small feat, it should be a measure of pride and not disappointment that they were unable to grab a victory. Compared to how the side was fairing before the qualifiers and at the start, they can see their own improvements. Five matches to go and none points needed to secure qualification. There is wiggle room but not much and the side can show its mental fortitude if they go into another tough environment and emerge with a result to get them that much closer to the end goal."

The Good
The Marauders were able to make the adjustments needed to find a way to win a seven goal thriller rather than come out on the wrong side of a five to four scoreline mike what happened with South Newlandia. It was a crucial three points, as it means that the Marauders need just four points in the last four matches to secure a spot in the Finals. This can come from either their own efforts or if Eraman drops points as well. A side that remains on the Marauders schedule here in the home stretch of this marathon qualifying campaign.

Equally impressive is the way that the attack has all sort of come together in the second half of qualifying. It has really made for some great viewing for neutrals and a bit of nostalgia for those old enough to remember when the Marauders were not just a dominant force in the game but one that did so in style. It was a time when the Marauders cranked out high flying victories and opponents felt good for merely staying within a pair of goals of the side. While those times are long gone, the attack has had a few glimpses of recreating it on the occasion.

The Bad
For all that, it has becone increasingly clear that Hawk is too big of a crutch for the rest of the squad. Although the captain and one of the best ever to play the game, he is being asked too often to smooth over the cracks in the side. When the midfield is being overrun by a more dominant side, when the defense is having a difficult time trying to keep the other team at bay, and when the attack is lacking quality it all seems to fall on his shoulders to try and remedy the mistakes. While on most occasions he can do this, it is far too often for even someone as talented as Hawk is being asked to. In order to strive for six, it has to be a collective effort and not the triump of a sole talented individual.

The Ugly
This is two games now where the defense has been completely forgotten. What had been a very strong unit up until the South Newlandia game has now seemingly forgotten how to defend. This is very troubling considering one of those matches happened on the Hatire Memorial, a stadium that is supposed to be a fortress and where the side plays at its best. If the team is to beat Eraman and keep up its group winning pace, it can not continue to defend like chickens with their heads cut off. Perhaps it calls for a change in tactics or maye personnel but something has got to change on the backbone in these last few matches to get it back to where it was before these two matches.

Independent Cocoa-bo Commission
Transcript of Next Session

Sir Barsanuphius
Good Morning. Welcome to the next sitting of the Independent Cocoa-bo Commission here at the Estadio Nacional de Huayramarca. We are pleased to welcome today Julián Quiteño, a sports writer for prominent local newspaper El Clarinerom. Bienvenidos señor Quiteño.

Señor Quiteño
Muchas gracias, cabellero Barsanuphius. I am very happy to be with you today.

Sir Barsanuphius
Señor Quiteño, with apologies, I'm not that familiar with Huayramarca. Perhaps you can give us a little context?

Señor Quiteño
With pleasure Sir Barsanuphius. Ours is a poor and multi-ethnic nation that until very recently was dependent on the herding of llamas, alpacas and vicuñas. Las llamas Huayramarcas son muy peligrosas; las alpacas y vicuñas Huayramarcas también. But now we are no longer dependent on the herding and byproducts of our local dangerous camelids, for we have recently been encouraging tourism to our beautiful nation. And we love our football; may God forgive us, but we do love our football. Sometimes I think we love our football more than life itself.

Sir Barsanuphius
Thank you. And it's football that brings us here today, I believe?

Señor Quiteño
Si, señor. It is indeed football that brings us here today. I have information that may be of interest to the commission, I believe.

Mr Minett
Please, do continue.

Señor Quiteño
Well, as a sports reporter, I often have the opportunity to see the national team in unguarded moments. It was before the matches against Welzat and Nephara that I saw something that I thought was very striking....

<pause; the commission clearly expects Quiteño to continue>

It is like this... before both those matches, Presidente González of the Federación de Fútbol Huayramarca was engaged in the force-feeding of the national team's players, and he was force-feeding them with this Cocoa-bo.

Mr Minett
I'm sorry, Mr Quiteño, he was force-feeding them with Cocoa-bo?

Señor Quiteño
Si. Now, I cannot tell you why this was the case. I am just a reporter for a newspaper, and not a scientist, but I distinctly heard him say '“Bring those players some Cocoa-bo, let’s do this!” before making them drink from small cups with a brown-ish cocoa-like drink.

Sir Barsanuphius
Do you know why he would have taken this step?

Señor Quiteño
Well, I overheard some other things being said. First of all Presidente González said... perhaps it is best if I play you a tape...

<president González speaks>
Considering the lack of good results that the Condors have achieved during this World Cup Qualifiers, we think it’s our responsibility as government to supply all of you with the very best in order to deliver success to Huayramarca, hence, I called this doctors to provide you Cocoa-bo, which is a chocolate beverage made to enhance performance of you all, I’ll let the doctors to explain that to you better.

But this is not all. Doctors were then called in and when asked they said that there would be some benefits from drinking this Cocoa-bo. Disculpame un momento - I have more recordings of what the doctor said these benefits would be...

<Huayramarca doctor>
Better oxygen catalyzation, improved reflexes and muscular coordination, high speed neural connections which enhance the player to react better, and faster

And then one of the national team players drank the Cocoa-bo and proceeded to say..

<Abraham Mendoza>
Drink it, it’s true what they say, as a Chemist in process I can confirm its benefits, it seems that there’s some glutamic acid in it, thiamine, nicotidamine, and other components that, indeed, enhances your performance.

So you see, el presidente forced the team to drink it, the doctor told the team that it would enhance team performance, and señor Mendoza endorsed this opinion on the basis of his chemistry studies. As you may be aware, altitude is an ongoing issue for games played in our beautiful nation, and some are always looking for ways to enhance the natural advantage that this gives el Condors for home games. It seems that the Cocoa-bo incident is related to this. I thought that you would be interested in this information.

Sir Barsanuphius
This is... quite remarkable. Are you quite sure?

Señor Quiteño
Of course I am sure, señor! I made these recordings myself. There was also some discussion of this being a 'mere placebo' and that it 'wasn't real Cocoa-bo', but I am not sure if this is equally important..

Sir Barsanuphius
A minor detail, I'm sure - nothing we particularly need to explore here today given your compelling evidence. Do any of the other members of the commission have any questions to ask?

Senator Copronymuso
Yes. If I may... Mr Quiteño, when president González was force-feeding the players... were there any puppies present?

Señor Quiteño
Puppies? Ah, si, los perritos! No, madam senator, there were no puppies present to the best of my knowledge.

Senator Copronymuso
So however irresponsible president González's behaviour may have been, no puppies were placed in danger?

Señor Quiteño
I do not believe so, no.

Senator Copronymuso
Which suggests that his behaviour was merely irresponsible rather than outrageously reckless.

Señor Quiteño
This is not a judgement I feel comfortable making, madam senator.

Sir Barsanuphius
Any further questions for the witness? No? Well, muchas gracias señor Quiteño.

Señor Quiteño
No hay problema.

Mr Minett
It certainly seems that, regardless of the specifics of the case, the Huayramarca players were fed a substance in the hope that they would believe that it would enhance their performance. Is that an accurate summary?

Sir Barsanuphius
I believe so; the key issue is whether or not the president of the federation genuinely believed it would be performance-enhancing or not...

Senator Copronymuso
But at least no puppies were harmed.

Sir Barsanuphius
I don't believe so, no. But food for thought either way.

Blood, Sweat & Glory - Part 14

Matchday 21: Port Ember vs Ko-oren

The atmosphere in and around the capital of the Republic was filled with excitement with a strong hint of being tense on the humid tropical morning of matchday 21. Everyone knew that their opponents of the day were no pushovers, in fact almost every Port Emberian media house have labeled them them as 'Heavyweights' in the footballing world. They were also labeled as the second strongest team in Group 8, behind The Holy Empire, being the second highest ranked team, placed in Pot 2. They were also coincidentally the only team which was currently threatening to destroy the dream of the Port Emberian Dragons to qualify for the World Cup Proper twice in a row. In fact, they were only four point behind on the table ladder, with one match less played. This simply meant that the Port Emberians were but a mistake or two away from being broken in this tournament. Adding to the pressure was that fact that the two teams drew in their previous encounter, the Ko-oren side playing some of the craziest (and best) defensive oriented styles of the modern game. The passionate high octane offense of the Dragons were smashed against the solid defensive wall again and again and again. Today that wall needed to be breached. Or else.

The players knew this and felt the same. They were worried shitless to put it mildly, especially since the team were not their sparkling bubbling selves at the moment. The recent murder of their former best player and captain Ray Reddington by one of their own - Frazer Murray- and his dealth penalty verdict, followed with the overnight resignation of their coach and father figure - Stuart Baxter. The appointment of a new coach (who had zero experience as an professional coach) was interesting as he was a total hard ass, being a retired special forces operator. He luckily had a way of uniting the lads. Despite these turbulent times, they had to remain focused and calm, careful not to allow emotion to cloud their performance. Luckily for the team, the nation was rallying behind their team, spurring them on, trusting- believing in them. The team and nation as a whole had nothing against the team of Ko-oren or their nation, in fact they held strong economic and diplomatic ties, but today was about more than that. It was that us or them mentality.

Once the game commenced, the players on the pitch could barely hear one another over the constant towering cheers of the capacity crowd, and the constant attacks against the solid Ko-oren wall only motivated the crowd more. Throughout the entire first half the Port Emberians launched a barrage of attacks, never managing to break the solid wall. Constant counter attacks kept the Dragons focused and humble, forced to work hard to shut down the text book counters.

The second half saw the same trend continue, the offensive barrage not subsiding for a moment, the perfect fitness levels being the only thing to keep the Port Emberians in contention. In minute 85 as it seemed that the game was once again looking to be ending in yet another draw, the exhausted Ko-oren side had a momentary lapse in concentration, with the dynamic due of winger Eric Tosaír and star striker Danny Nicovic capitalizing on a small gap left, smashing almost right through the net. Once again the golden boot of Nicovic saving the day in spectacular fashion.

Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Ria (C); McBee - de Aea - Rondeau - Austic; Armageddon - Zuniga; Thorben - Kuzami - Dragana; Sierra.

ISLANDER DOME, MYANA, CHROMATIKA -
Group 3 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
2 Terre Septentrionale 19 9 6 4 48 43 +5 33
3 Eshan 19 11 0 8 28 28 0 33
4 Savojarna 19 9 5 5 33 27 +6 32
5 The Sarian 20 9 3 8 34 30 +4 30
6 Northwest Kalactin 19 8 6 5 50 46 +4 30
7 Chromatika 20 9 2 9 47 34 +13 29
With a solid home victory over Eshan, Chromatika still has an outside chance at qualification - winning all four matches will be the least of their worries, though, because the greater problem is hoping that Terre Septentrionale and Eshan only score eight points in their last five matches and Savojarna nine.

There is probably less than 20% chance that Chromatika qualifies.

Terre Septentrionale has games away at Eura, versus Northwest Kalactin, at Eshan, versus Alba and Cymru, and at The Sarian.
Eshan has games versus Sabalonia, at Savojarna, versus Terre Septentrionale, at Sanctanus and versus Adyatin.
Savojarna has games at Northwest Kalactin, versus Eshan, at Alba and Cymru, versus The Sarian, and at Chromatika.
Northewest Kalactin has games versus Savojarna, at Terre Septentrionale, versus Sanctanus, at Adyatin, and versus The Jovannic.

There are enough games between the teams ahead of Chromatika that the probability of one of those squads picking up more points than the amount Chromatika would need to beat them out on goals differential...

It all comes down to the last four matches, with Ferret Tioux in goal, Olivia An, Kattie Will, White Baugh, and Valence Ilya playing defense, Kai Dias and Leysa Burns in defensive midfielder position, and Kaytlyn Victoriane, Victorina Bird, Retta Conrad, and Olimpia Vidal up front.

First step, win the remaining matches against Alba and Cymru, The Sarian, Sabalonia, and Savojarna.

Second, hope that some others shake out their way.

But, at least get to forty points and salvage the disastrous start.

ELEPHANT VALLEY MAIL
Sports -> Soccer
Elephants need to get it together soon

Juvencus was thought to be a favourite to give the top teams from Valanora and Pasarga a run for their qualifying spot, but things went differently. After a bad first half, the 39th ranked team of the world was almost eliminated already. Juvencus had a better second half, but they were still far away from the interesting spots before their visit to South Newlandia. Because of this, the Elephants had some hope to take points off of them. However, Juvencus’ defense stood solid, and the Elephants weren’t able to get through. A late goal for Juvencus secured a win for the pot 3 team.

South Newlandia 0-1 Juvencus

South Newlandia actually didn’t have a bad start in front of more than twenty thousand in the Elephant Dome, as they got a nice chance early on. In the 6th minute, Finnley Wallis had a free kick, but the ball went too high.

Nothing else happened for the remainder of the first half, so we will skip straight to half-time. Robert Wolverine hasn’t happy with the Elephants’ performance, and he decided to get Brandon Irving on the field for Simon McCabe.

In the 51st minute, Juvencus came close to scoring when Tore Christian brought a flank into the penalty box. Santo Silvestri got a header in, but Mikhail Trischuk saved the ball.

The 62nd minute saw another chance for Juvencus, but Joaquim Martell missed his shot by about a metre.

South Newlandia’s best chance of the second half was by Bjorn Cohen in the 71st minute. Corban Green got a flank in, but Bjorn Cohen’s shot was well captured by Taddeo Bulgari.

In the 76th minute, Santo Silvestri got a good flank in. The ball was meant for Joaquim Martell, but Barnaby Hastings got to the ball first. He tried to clear it, but he didn’t hit the ball right, and it went right into the goal. Trischuk was very surprised and without a chance.
Robert Wolverine got Ricardo Rayner on the pitch for Tommy Anderson in an attempt to secure at least a point, but South Newlandia didn’t get an equalizer.

With that, South Newlandia lost another game. In the Elephant Dome, it was especially disappointing, as more was certainly possible against Juvencus. Now, South Newlandia is in 4th place behind Eraman, and qualification is only a theoretical possibility now. The Elephants will have to get a grip for the next few matches, as with four matches to go, they will need some more wins to secure the top 100 position Wolverine wanted.

Bliuji (99) vs. Pasarga (25)
Pasarga will eliminate Bliuji here.

The Planers need three points here.

Pangurstan will have their second bye.

The Kytler Peninsulae (UR) vs. South Newlandia (228)

Tenkyo, a decisive victory for the Kandorese team in the game against Fujai, a t mea against which many teams have had difficulties to perform against. The home advantage for Kandorith surely helped with the three to nill victory in the Empress Masumi stadium as elsewhere Xanneria and HUElavia played which ended in 2 - 3 for HUElavia. Because of this defeat Kandorith was able to overtake Xanneria to secure the third position in the group. For the Kandorese team, one of the highest places they have been in for a long time. Surely for the Kandorese fans and the team itself a reason to celebrate. According to Hayabusa, the work is not done yet and there is no moment for true celebrations.

"Of course the team did great and I am glad we were able to move up another spot in the table, but I think we need to work even harder to keep this spot if maybe even moving up to the second spot." Hayabusa said. "We can not let our guard down however. The number four and five are of course following on our heels. We can not allow any draws and especially not any defeat. This puts immense pressure on the team of course and yes, I do worry a bit for the younger players in the team. For a few of them, this is the first time they are dealing with international football. I have great confidence in their ability to deal with the pressure on their shoulders however.

"Our coming match is another important one and will be against a side we had little trouble with, yet I want to be cautious again and not waste too much energy. The younger players will definitely be able to get some play time during the match and of course I expect their maximum performance and abilities from the start of the match and onward. I firmly believe in everything I have seen on the training ground and their substitutions and I really think they are ready for the task to represent the nation on the field."

The previous match for Kandorith was a five to one victory for the home side and there is firm believe the Kandorese team can easily overcome the upcoming match too. With a slightly rotated squad the Lotus Warriors will take on Jamestownnnn, who currently sit on the 12th position in the group table. The question now that Kandorith is in third place is if they can keep up with the very well performing HUElavia and stay ahead of both Xanneria and Vdara. For the Kandorese fans another win would be an absolute gift and even more reason to celebrate and therefore it is expected for the Kandorese fans to be present in all the upcoming venues en masse.

Cocoa-bo Multiverse-Wide Sales Report Leaked - WC85

Postby Turori » Fri Jun 12, 2020 2:45 pm

This plot isn't just 'made up' - I used a number of extensively researched metrics to create the plots to ensure accuracy - even though a made up plot might have worked just as well :D. The numbers are based on both the number of times Cocoa-bo was mentioned during a given cycle as well as the number of different nations mentioning it throughout a cycle among other factors.

Previous parts of the story: 12345678910111213141516171819.

This time they decided to continue where they cut short yesterday, and headed right to the central square with fortress on it. Because right below it, as it turned out, located subway station, and, according to Kate, wih a very entertaining design. There was only one stop to go, but during this time the guests of the country were overcome by a persistent desire to drink something tonic, and maybe even light wine.
“Last time,” Naomi said in connection with this. “I really wanted coffee. When we were moving here from the airport, I have a strong desire to drink, and maybe only because of that smell I don’t fell asleep”.
Keith seemed to cough.
“Actually, it was coffee day, and today is wine one. Once again, I overlooked the obvious things for us in Trolleborg. The air in the cars is ozonized in order to provide passengers with a clear mind and good mood ”
And, interpreting the silence of tourists in their own way, she added:
“Don’t be afraid, it’s completely harmless, and the dose is insignificant, so immediately after leaving the station the desire to drink will disappear, so this is not a conspiracy of some drink dealers.”

Meanwhile, the train suddenly stopped in the middle of the slightly lighted up cave, and the doors opened.
Image

Technical stop or what? - Wesley managed to think, when Keith asked in surprise:
“Aren't you going to go out? This is your stop if you are going to go to the fortress. ”
“Is this a stop?” - with undisguised surprise asked Zwangzugers in unison.
“Yes, and hurry up if you don't want to go any further”.
And they hurried, just in time, bacause doors closed right behind them.

Nevertheless, as it turned out, it was not quite a cave, but just a station that completely and very convincingly imitated a cave with full array of stalactites and stalagmites. Between the sweeping columns was just visible arriving train on the other side of platform, and passengers were hurrying busily around. In the center of the station, as it turned out, a stream flowed, forming even a small pond, and Wesley thought that water was dripping from above - but, as it turned out, it was purely virtual, but very convincing.

Image

"You like it?" - asked Kate with a clearly noticeable desire that guests liked it.
"Uhhh ... a little peculiar," Wesley replied carefully, automatically trying to shake the drops off his head.

“I hope you are imbued with this. After all, we are located directly under the center of our civilization, where it came from, so it is not surprising that an authentic trollish cave was chosen as a model. At that end there is an ethnographic exhibition dedicated to the early history of Trolleborg, you are already familiar with it a little. And now you can continue right to the fortress”.

Stelburger Zeitung

Sport

An Interview with Darijen Vesele

The Stelburger Zeitung was lucky enough to get the chance to sit down with Darijen Vesele, the young right back who has had a breakout campaign for the Goldhorns in World Cup 85’s Qualifying. We were able to have lunch with Vesele before this evening’s match against Electrum in Stelburg, and the budding star spoke to us about his career so far.

Stelburger Zeitung: Darijen, it’s been an excellent campaign for you so far - you’ve earned 12 caps so far throughout Qualifying. How has it felt to be part of this squad?

Darijen Vesele: Just incredible. From day one, everyone was so welcoming - and it was tough for me, because although I’ve played against many of these guys in the Republikaliga, I’ve never been teammates with any of them before. So to be able to hit the ground running has been nice.

SZ: And hit the ground running you have - you even managed to get your first international goal in the Qualifying match against The Commuinist Republic of Chinatown earlier in these Qualifiers, becoming one of 35 players to have scored for Siovanija & Teusland in its history. What was that moment like?

DV: Well, as a right back, you aren’t really thinking of scoring - more just how to get your teammates to score! And I knew that none of the other fullbacks in the squad have a goal yet, so I wasn’t expecting it to come as early as it did. I just kinda saw my chance off the corner, blasted a shot and it went in! Top moment of my career so far for sure.

SZ: Surely you’ll be adding to that list in the future - age 22, and already one of the top choices at your position for the Goldhorns. But there’s a good amount of talent in that right back position, with Pierre-Louis Lotbiniere, Trude Spitz and Thorsten Helmke to name a few. Are you looking forward to the competition for that number 2 shirt?

DV: I think it’s a friendly competition for sure - Pierre-Louis and I get on real well, and Thorsten and Trude have been excellent to talk to as well. We all bring different strengths to the lineup, and so we’re all valuable for sure.

SZ: With 5 games left in the Qualifying stage, the Goldhorns sit in first place in group 10. Do you think you guys will be able to close out the campaign on a high note?

DV: That’s the goal we’re working towards every day in the room. Keep working, keep fighting until the end. We know we have some important games coming up for sure, and nothing is settled yet. So it’s about keeping the mentality we’ve had from the beginning - fighting for each other and being the best we can be in every single game.

SZ: You’re part of what many in national sports media have called the ‘Next Generation’, 7 players who came into these Qualifiers uncapped. It includes players like Taras Maksimov, Tristan Niedermayer, Leopold Bliznakov and, of course, yourself. Many of you have been praised for your performance in the Qualifiers - what benefit do you think that group has brought to the national team?

DV: It’s a really good time for all of us to come in together, and have the support of the excellent guys in our squad who’ve been there before - guys like Ivo (Romanov), Thorsten (Kramer) and Raphael (Klopfer). So while we bring some of that youthful energy to the team, they help us keep our heads and mentally bring our A game.

SZ: You began your career with local club FK Vlaikograd 1896 - and although the club had a poor year last year, you were a particular highlight. This paper, in fact, referred to you as one of the better crossers in the Republikaliga. What did you make of that season?

DV: Obviously I had some personal success, and it was great to be recognized like I was. But I’m a big team guy, and our team wasn’t able to go as far as we did, so I was disappointed at the end of the year, to be honest.

SZ: Then in the offseason, one of the biggest decisions of your entire life so far - you accepted a transfer to Rene Skae of Farfadillis. In the process, though, you turned down offers from Brenecia, Kelssek, Savojarna and Valanora - what factors contributed to your decision?

DV: I’ll be honest, it was very tough. There were 5 great clubs that wanted me, and I was very flattered by that interest. But I think that the opportunity with Rene Skae is going to be big - defending champions, and obviously we want to keep that up. And staying in Southwestern AO was definitely a factor as well.

SZ: You must be looking forward to the start of your first season with the club, then.

DV: Oh certainly - you look at some of the players they’ve been able to develop, and I’m hoping my settling in there will be just as quick as it was with the national team.

SZ: Well, Darijen, thanks for your time today - and best of luck in the match tonight!

DV: Thank you! It should be a good one, for sure.

The Stelburger Zeitung will continue to bring coverage as Siovanija & Teusland’s national football team heads into the final stretch of the World Cup 85 Qualifying campaign. First up tonight is a match against Electrum at the Nationalstadion. Come on you Goldhorns!

Terre Septentrionale beats Wanarpu

San Pedro, Texas - On matchday 21, Terre Septentrionale received Wanarpu, the worst team from group 3, they're so bad that they refused to identify their players. Georges-Kévin Vainqueur was back in the net after sitting against The Jovannic. Slawomir Skrzeszewski, Yannick Ksiezniakiewicz and Fryderyka Cwierczakiewiczowa weren't in uniform while Kacper Pietrzkiewicz, Przemyslaw Tkocz and Kévin Maillé-Chicoine were inserted in the starting XI. The Nordiques attacked at the 9th minute when Przemyslaw Tkocz passed to Sandrine Fontaine who made a short pass to Sandie McCracken. McCracken shoots and she scores! 1-0 Terre Septentrionale. Terre Septentrionale attacked again at the 25th minute when Kacper Pietrzkiewicz passed to Roksana Kolodziejczyk who dribbled with the ball and made a header pass to Sandrine Fontaine who heads the ball right ino the net and Terre Septentrionale increased their lead to 2-0. The Reprezentacja Nordycki attacked again at the 41st minute when Przemyslaw Tkocz passed to Sandrine Fontaine who made a short pass to Wlodzimierz Waclawczyk who dribbled and tried to pass in the penalty area to Kévin Maillé-Chicoine but Player #4 intercepted the pass and tried to Pass to Player #8 but Élisabeth Normandin intercepts the pass, she's dribbling with the ball and shoots from 25 meters and it's a goal! 3-0 Terre Septentrionale and this is the score at the halftime.

Wanarpu attacked at the 61st minute when Player #10 made a cross to Player #9 who kicks the ball and it's in. Terre Septentrionale's lead is cut to 3-1. The Northmen attacked at the 81st minute when Élisabeth Normandin passed to Krzysztof Pajaczkowski, the guy who was arrested in the Free Republics for stalking Scarlett Nicholls during the Baptism of Fire 70, who dribbled and passed to Amelia Zalwowska in the penalty area. Just when Zalwowska is about to shoot, she's tackled by Player #15 who recieves a yellow cards. Player #15, who subbed in at the 68th minute has been awful in this game. In Fryderyka Cwierczakiewiczowa's absence, Sandie McCracken is taking the penalty. She kicks the ball and it's a goal! This is the final score, Terre Septentrionale wins 4-1!

Back in 2nd place

Group 3 standings are like roller coasters and Terre Septentrionale jumped from the 5th place to the 2nd place with this win against Wanarpu. This was possible because Eshan lost 3-0 against Chromatika, Savojarna lost 3-1 against Eura and The Sarian lost 1-0 against Alba and Cymru. The Nordiques has their faith in their hands and they can qualify for two reasons: They are ranked higher than all of their 5 remaining opponents but Eura: Northwest Kalactin, Eshan, Alba and Cymru and The Sarian. It's also believed they have an equal or better momentum than all of these teams (OOC: RP bonus). Terre Septentrionale's faith is now in Margaret's hands, she's the only one who can make us not qualifying. Next matchday, Terre Septentrionale will travel to Eura to play against the 3rd best team in the multiverse. On matchday 9, the Northmen recieved Eura at home on National Day but Eura spoiled the party by defeating us 3-1. Yannick Ksiezniakiewicz, who received a one game ban for a red card on matchday 20, and Slawomir Skrzeszewski will be back in the starting XI. Fryderyka Cwierczakiewiczowa (foot injury) is still considered day to day and will be a game time decision. Other games to watch in group 3 are Northewest Kalactin vs Savojarna and Eshan vs Sabalonia. Terre Septentrionale could fall in 4th place after next matchday if they lose against Eura. Like we said earlier, group 3 standings are like roller coasters.

Clear Comfortable Win

Timuria 3–1 Patistan
Caner Turan (18), Ozbek Sarikaya (43), Vatan Ercetin (66);Patistan #9 (77)

by Tufan Nursultan

The Red Wolves went into this match in Demir needing to be perfect and while they weren't quite there, they did enough to collect their three points and continue to stubbornly remain in contention for a qualfication spot, despite it likely being a fool's errand. The Red Wolves would go into the break 2-0 up and wouldn't look back as they emerged 3-1 victors over Patistan whose performance is best described as "present, but not involved" as the HRT commentators put it on the night.

The first chance of the match would fall to Ismail Burhan who had ample time to pick his spot after a Vatan Ercetin pass left him with a clear chance at goal, but he snatched at his chance and sent it well wide, a sign of the tough day he would have. The scoring would be opened soon after that chance, with Caner Turan cutting inside from the left wing and striking the ball sweetly with his right foot sending the ball whizzing past the keeper.

Volkan Ayhan would find himself free from his opposite number and would whip in a cross in the 35th minute, Ismail Burhan managed to get on the end of it, but his contact with the ball was the exact wrong one and he sent the ball well over the bar. This missed opportunity wouldn't haunt the Red Wolves for too long however, as a poor clearance from the keeper would leave Ozbek Sarikaya in position to deliver an absolutely stunning volley from 35 yards out that found its way into the back of the net, leaving everyone in silence for what felt like an enternity before the sides went in two goals apart.

The second half would begin with yet another chance for Ismail who failed to get any kind of foothold in this match as it clearly wasn't his day, his shot from close range clattering off the bar in the 49th minute. The Red Wolves would extend their lead to three goals with a Vatan Ercetin header from a Caner Turan cross, the keeper's fingertips not enough to keep the ball out.

The substitute Omer Tameroglu would get his chance to add to the score line in the 75th minute, but his effort was kept out by the excellent reflexes of the Patistan keeper. The visitors would finally get themselves a shot on target and it would result in their one goal, the unfortunate Berker Balkan's boot deflecting the ball in such a way that it wrong footed Iskender Nur.

The result means that the Red Wovles will still need a favour from elsewhere with Kelssek requiring a mere 7 points to ensure their qualification, the Red Wolves will face The Mann Clan who will be coming off a 1-1 draw with Audiaslania and who sit in 12th place after 20 matches.

What They Said After The Match:

Bekir Altingunes: "Well we just heard about the Kelssek match and I think that while it's still mathematically possible we have to acknowledge, as I have been, that we can only hold up our end of the bargain and hope for a favour from elsewhere. Obviously that's not what we'd want, that's not what I'd prefer, we all want to be in control of our fate, but that's the situation for us. The players understand that, I think they did a very professional job today and that's a sign of how well prepared we've been especially when it would have been easy for us to overlook Patistan. So that's it really, we'll continue to do our very best and hopefully someone does a favour for us and maybe the window is open."

Player Ratings:

Tufan was unable to file the player-by-player breakdown due to his dog eating the paper he was going to submit, which would have made sense if we used paper for this, so I guess his dog ate his laptop? What do you mean I'm using voice-to-text?

Dear Mr. Mriin,

On behalf of the Oberour Ar Moro National Football Team, we would like to extend our thanks for volunteering your home as the site for our recent match. Your backyard is nicer than was expected, though smaller than we would have hoped. We also would like to thank you for letting us the use of facilities of your home. Access to your restroom was dearly needed and appreciated.

I write to address two occurrences from the match. As you recall, in the 22nd minute a Iuna Bretiau tackle on Vilita Turori led to the ball flying into the backyard of your neighbor, knocking over a lit barbecue grill. We have been in contact with the property owner and understand that there was no damage. They extended thanks to Noel l’Aulogier for operating the fire extinguisher that put out the small fire before it spread. Enclosed is the recompense for a new fire extinguisher for your property.

The second occurrence was after the match. The Oberour Ar Moro players were very excited after their 2-5 victory and used the occasion to scale the wall on the other side of your backyard to enjoy your neighbor's pool. This is an example of youthful hijinx and celebration. Arguably the Oberours came out the worst as they had to return to their hotel in soaked clothes.

We disagree completely there were any damages at all from the post-match actions, whether to your wall or to your neighbor's deck and pool. Oberour Ar Moro will not be providing any compensation for this, as there is nothing to compensate for. If you disagree, enclosed are instructions for filing a tort claim against Oberour Ar Moro.

Thank you again for your hospitality. The Oberour Ar Moro Football Management Committee wish you success in the remainder of World Cup qualification.

Sincerely Yours,

Jacques-Alexis Fumon

Enclosed: Compensation for fire extinguisher replacement; tort claim application instructions

Islanders slip in Donnacona, prepare for home Qualifier against Kita-Hinode

The World Cup 84 Draw

LAKISKA, SOUTH ISLAND- Well, we're in the endgame now. This marathon Qualification campaign is finally coming to a close. There have been 19 or 20 games played for each team over 21 matchdays, and each only have four or five games left. We could talk to you about our side's bitterly disappointing loss in Donnacona yesterday. With both Drawkland and the Squornshelous Remnant States dropping points, it was a golden opportunity for our boys to pick up a crucial three points to both build confidence before this game against Kita-Hinode, and close the gap between Busoga and 2nd place from four points to just one. But we blew it. We went up against a team far below in both talent level and the table, and we blew it.

Basically every Busogan fan could scream after that match. The team was awful. The first goal allowed was an absolute joke- a handball in the 3rd minute, in our own box on a play that definitely was not a goal scoring opportunity, gave the home side an early penalty that they were not going to miss. That put us out on the wrong foot, and this team isn't built for comebacks and having to throw players forward so early. We won't go through the gory details, watching it once was two times too many. The second goal allowed was a stunner- from around 30 yards, placing it upper 90. al-Shareef didn't have a chance. And just like that, us, Drawkland, and the Squornshelous Remnant States, in places 2-4 entering the matchday, earned one combined point. That made Kohnhead the winner of the day, as they took advantage of all of our slip-ups to insert themselves right back in the race.

But now, that leaves us this big game against Kita-Hinode. Jay Khano, one of the side's starting central midfielders, talked about the task ahead of them. "There's no sugarcoating it- this is a giant matchup for us, and we are the underdogs." He told the press. "There's a reason Kita-Hinode finds itself where they do in the group table. They're simply excellent, and will probably be competitors to win the whole thing once they actually get to the Finals. But everyone knows what we are trying to do here. The Cup of Harmony is an excellent tournament and all, but there's been a permanent cycle in Busoga Islands football. Go to the CoH, get dumped in the group stages. We want to do more. We want to do what everyone's here to do- make the Finals. And we need to make up ground against teams ahead of us, and we can do that against Kita-HInode."

The home field advantage is about the only thing the Islanders have going for them. We did earned a draw playing in Kita-Hinode during the first half of World Cup Qualifying, earning a 1-1 draw away from home. That means anything is possible- if we can earn points once, we can again, right? But at the same time, it is much different circumstances. Even as the underdogs, we face all the pressure here. If Drawkland and SRS win, while we lose, we would be 7 points down with just 4 games left in Qualifying, which would be a near impossible hole to climb out of. Kita-Hinode is all but assured of a spot in the World Cup, and to win this group, regardless of today's result. Therefore, no pressure on them. And playing at home- while fans will give energy, they will have expectation. Can the team handle it?

It may take a miracle to eventually get the Busoga Islands over the hump and into the World Cup. It'd probably take a miracle for us to beat Kita-Hinode and really resurrect our dwindling World Cup campaign. Can we go out and get it done?

The TV3 First Election Debate
Live from the Stanton Conference Centre

Mark Linwood (Chair): Welcome, one and all, to the first of this year's General Election Leaders' Debates. We have six men and women with us tonight; each has been allocated one minute with which to make their opening statements, before we move on to our questions. Without further ado, let's introduce our participants, starting from the left hand podium.

Peter Owen (Mercian National): Good evening. I'm Peter Owen, leader of the MNP. A vote for our party, where we are standing, equals a vote for investment in Nova Mercia, a trust in Mercian unity, and accountability for the government towards the Mercian people - regardless of which party that Government is made up of. For too long, places like Leston and Shruton have been ignored by those developing the economy, and these are the exact sort of places we intend to ensure get the chance to regenerate and grow.

Charles Linton (Reform): You may have heard many things about our bold plans. Let me make this clear: a federal Krytenia means more accountability for our politicians at a local level, more targeted funding for projects nearer to you, and less of a disconnect to politics. Emberton may be our capital, but it doesn't have to be where everything begins and ends. Our reforms are designed for a brighter, more prosperous Krytenia, with less bureaucracy and more opportunity for every corner of the country.

Nicole Deschamps (Socialist): For too long, successive governments have been beholden to the suits and the argentals of this country. We propose a program of progressive education, employment law reform, and the bringing of resource gathering back into the public centre, so we can make the economy work, not for the priveleged few in our nation's boardrooms, but for every single man, woman, and child in the country. Students leaving university without a mountain of debt, our lowest paid receiving a true living wage, and an end to the elitist politics that have suffocated this country for far too long. This is what we promise for all of you.

Lisa Storey (Greens): You will hear a lot of rhetoric tonight about the accountability of government - we are more interested in the responsibility of government. This is not just an opportunity to change the direction of the country for five years, but the chance to safeguard it for generations. Every Green member elected to the Witting is another voice ensuring the security and accessibility of our existing and new green spaces, the reduction of dangerous mining and fuel extraction projects, and the government holding to account those who belch harmful gases and radiation into the atmosophere.

Marcus Corrello (Democrats): We in the Krytenian Democrat Party simply cannot fathom why Mr Linton wishes to sink money in a needless vanity project. We pledge not to fix what isn't broken, and instead use the money to improve our health service, ensure schools and hospitals have the investment and equipement that they need, and increasing welfare payments to make sure no citizen is left behind, and all Krytenians get the world-class services they deserve and demand from a progressive government.

Sarah Finch (Conservative): You have here a party that, put simply, thinks the state is too big. Too much cash sunk into bureaucracy and red tape, too much on civil servants whose jobs are clearly unnecessary. We propose putting the Government on a diet - whether federal or contolled from Emberton - and pass those savings into your pocket by reducing the tax burden on the people. For too long, there have been public sector fat cats growing fat from Krytenia's teat; the milk buffet ends here.

...to be continued...

And it’s six!

Having won their last game 4-2 away at Fujai, Vdara had high hopes for the match against Blouman Empire, who they had beaten earlier in the qualifiers. Væñøœrëñbérghüïś had especially high hopes, having said this to his team before kickoff:

”Right-o! I don’t need to tell yous much, but I’m hoping for you all to be able to beat this team again, just like we did last time. Why? Well, why not? We’re in fantastic form, and I want you all to keep it going! Now, get out there and mastermind that win!”

And mastermind that win they did, with Lazelis making it 2-0 to Vdara by the end of the first half. Væñøœrëñbérghüïś then chose to bring on Galanatos and Kairakos, since a few of the players looked like they needed a rest.

By the end of the game, the home fans were pleased. Vdara had managed to go six games unbeaten, and had topped it off with a win against a formidable opponent. In the dressing room, Væñøœrëñbérghüïś seemed pleased, and spoke in a cheerful yet calm manner.

“Fan-f**king-tastic, lads! Now, this win might not get us into the qualifiers, but it’ll certainly help us maybe get into 4th, or maybe even 3rd if we’re lucky enough! Now, our next game is against Ancherion. We’ve beat them before, and they’ve been underperforming, but we can’t always be too sure of our performances always. Six is a fantastic number of games to go unbeaten, in any case, but to extend it would be even better. Heck, even a draw against Ancherion would extend it, but the win would be better, for the fans and my- I mean, our credibility as a team. That’s all for today. I’ll see you all at the airport!”

Will Vdara beat an out-of-form team yet again, or will they lose and be eliminated from the qualifiers in a rubbish fashion? Find out tomorrow, as Vdara play away against Ancherion!

Vdara’s Remaining Games:
MATCHDAY 22 (June 12)

He started off as Rory, then Roo-roo, then simply ‘Roo’, then a couple of names before being stuck with ‘Homesy’ until he was 18. Then it was Cadet Wyatt-Holmes, then Constable Wyatt-Holmes, then Detective Constable Wyatt-Holmes, Detective Inspector Wyatt-Holmes and finally, briefly, Detective Chief Inspector Wyatt-Holmes - partially for the pay rise, partially because he was bored of the ‘DIY at homes’ joke. Now he was Rory again. The years between fifty and sixty and felt faster than even a year. He felt he could remember every day that he was 21, but his 50s had passed by in a blur.

Rory thought he’d enjoy retirement, largely because he also thought he’d enjoy golf, owning a motor-home and gardening, but after just three months of these things he decided they might be the most boring things possible. A motor home! Why! They had planes now! He could go wherever he wanted via planes and a couple of renta-cars. Golf was just a waste of a nice walk and a place which otherwise might have been a nice park. Plus, from what he could tell, literally everyone who ever played, watched or even liked golf was a complete tool. And gardening. Gardening. No.

As Plain-Old-Rory entered the house and threw his flat-cap onto the the hat-stand, missing by a foot, he considered just biting the bullet and becoming a security guard for a few years.

Elizabeth was waiting for him in the living room. Rory looked around the room and frowned.

“What the hell have you..”
“You need to look at this” said Elizabeth, interrupting. “You were complaining about having nothing to do? Well… here’s something for you to do”
“What is it?”
“Read this first”
“All of it?” said Rory. “It looks like you’ve got the entire encyclopedia of rubbish Krytenian ideas in front of you”
“Read it” said Elizabeth. “And when you’re finished reading it” she said, picking up a piece of paper and handing it to Rory, “you can sign this”.

Rory held the paper in his left hand and hugged Elizabeth with his right. She hugged him as he read the first sentence on the sheet.

“This is an application to the government. For a license to become a private investigator”
“Trust me” said Elizabeth. “You’re going to need it”

Another narrow victory for the Audioslavians in group one, another episode of The Idiot Podcast in the books, this one with current 1830 Cathair and former Audioslavia manager Lee Sharp as the special guest of him and Daphnaes. The short flight home allowed Jeremy some time to shake away the weirdness of visiting that old stadium again. Filling the Flynn Arena with Diet Eurans was like converting a cathedral into a sausage roll bakery. An ambitious use of the space, sure, but you wonder about their general level of hygiene.

The plan now in terms of the national team was simple: Just keep winning. After having made a song and dance about how good those nil-all draws with Turori and Astograth were, you couldn’t very well go and stumble over the line into third place behind both of them, could you?

For Jeremy, the plan involved the second to last game of the qualifiers. Audioslavia, hopefully safely qualified by then, hosting Natanians and Nosts in a game that, due to him being given his World Assembly Commendation for Services to Journalistic Integrity, had been moved from the capital’s Arena Kirola to the 1927 Stadium in Iadub, Kjeligsted.

It had been quite some time since he’d last been there. For good reason, too. That little enterprise on the island had taken a turn for the worst. He’d gotten out in time, along with a couple of others, but the rest had been arrested. A couple hadn’t survived prison.

Luckily enough, that was years ago. The statute of limitations had long since evaporated. Even if anyone was alive from back then, they couldn’t do anything about it.

He’d stand on the centre-circle. He’d give a small speech to the crowd. He’d make a joke or two. Someone would remove the claret velvet cloth from the award. He’d pick it up. He’d thank Audioslavia. He’d go and drink some iced tea. They still didn’t allow alcohol on the island. That’s one of the reasons why he wouldn’t even stay for the game. Next train to Oljestaden, nice hotel, maybe a pub just before closing time. Whisky. Ice. Straw. Umbrella. Perfect.

The plans had been public for weeks. The Audioslavia fans were excited about seeing a game on Kjeligsted, at the stadium the Bulls had called home between cycles 59 and 65.

Even though just the word ‘Kjeligsted’ gave him the heebeejeebies, he figured it would probably, no, definitely be absolutely fine

Part 5
Part 6
Helmutov went to bed, dreaming again of times past. It was just minutes before a major criminal case. Students from the Zeta Reka National University Matov-Uri Branch were accused of being in the politically subversive “Green Order.” The charges of revolutionary fraternization were possibly the smallest accusation aimed at the seven young minds. They were accused of detonating a bomb during an illegal protests against the government. Worse still they were accused of massacring residents of a residential unit with automatic firearms. These were serious claims from a conviction heavy criminal justice system.

Visions faded away. Suddenly it was two weeks prior to the trial. Dozens of lawyers were in the room. In front of the men and women was a podium bearing the state seal. Helmutov felt strain from the hard chair, his bones digging in after an hour of waiting. Two guards entered the room, followed by an older gentleman. The man was hunched, but instantly recognizable. It was the party boss, the president of the worker’s council, the man who made the country move. The old man began moved to the podium as a guard cried out, “Rise! Respect the Predsjednik Avgusa Socijalistčki Organizacija. Respect the Generalni Sekretar Savet Radnika. Respect the Feldaršal Matov-Uri.” the guard continued to command respect for the country’s leader, who stood on his perch. The leader casually looked left to right, smiling with a closed mouth if any eye contact was made. The guard eventually ceased to speak, and the room applauded their leader.

The old man motioned with his hand, and the crowd quickly calmed itself. The leader of the nation began to speak slowly from a pre writer document, “Thank you. Friends!” he shouted out, then he spoke slowly and quietly, catching his breath when needed, “Gentlemen and gentlewomen alike, you were called here for a special reason. As you know, we have begun to practice, ‘Otvorenost,’ in our country. Our openness has seen the creation of new parties, and new ideas. We have enjoyed these new political groups. In spite of the progression, we have had to be careful in our progress. Some protested in our streets without asking. Their rash actions have created violence. Their attacks has inflicted painful blows to our plans. A group of students are currently charged with bombing our streets, and massacring our people.”

“When an accusation crime like these is handed out, our people tend to be efficient. However, given our openness, we are looking to a new ways of adjudicating these disputes. People in the nation want nothing less than answers. They do not want to left in the dark, As you know, the Worker’s Council pledged to soon broadcast its sessions to the general public. This trial will be broadcast to the nation. We will test our technology, and public appetite. Usually we hold a trial of this nature behind closed doors. Some are different as you know, and those trials tend to be silently scorned. We have listened to those concerns.” The old man motioned for an assistant. “As you know, we tend to have trouble finding attorneys for these cases.” Helmutov knew why, they were no win scenarios. The state set up trials like these as shows. There was essentially no hope for the defendants. The assistant brought a clear pot with pieces of paper indie of it. “If no one is interested in proving due process, my lovely assistant here is willing to draw a name.”

It was normal for lawyers to be scared of these sham trials. Only eleven years ago there were not even lawyers in trials like this. Even with the presence of an attorney, most knew capital offense cases were generally not competitive. Worse yet, these men and women were accused of terrorism and radical subversion. Speaking out in their defense could be career suicide. The room was silent. Of course, someone would represent the accused. Being selected via a lottery system would not be burdensome to someone’s reputation. Helmutov’s dream moved back and forth to the protest he saw to the events in the room. With a sudden rush of heat in his body, Helmutov sweat. His arm came up, and from the podium a “You?” could be heard. “You?” The old man said, “Come up here.” he commanded. Helmutov was still, but his heavy legs moved up. It was almost like he wasn’t in control of his own senses. Something about what he was compelled him. No, it was everything. There was something wrong with the government’s story. If this trial was broadcast, the truth would be known. Helmutov didn’t know what that would mean, but as he shook the national leader’s hand, he knew this was an irrevocable decision. If Helmutov didn’t know that already, being drug out of the room and being subjected to the flash of photography made the situation very clear.

Ever since the plucky young man had volunteered for the case, he was seen with some suspicion. He could recall seemingly being followed on his commute. It was likely the inner circle of the government. He also had received an odd gift in the mail that morning, a green ribbon. While waiting for the defendants to be escorted into the courtroom, a flowing robe came around the corner on Helmutov’s sightline. It was the judge, Anton Antonić. Behind the judge was a handful of reporters. Helmutov knew Antonić as a patient man of law, and had heard him lecture few times in higher education. Antonić came up to the lawyer, “Your honor.” Helmutov said, “I heard you were assigned to this case a day ago.” “Spare me flattery,” Antonić replied, “I’m usually not included in trials of this nature. That little food poisoning incident took Welić and Mikasinowić out of the picture. It seems the chef’s wheat and beef special struck again.” Antonić chuckled “Of course,” he said seriously, “It’s also rare for people to volunteer in capers of capital crime.” the judge reached out his hand and whispered into Helmutov’s ear, “These reporters got a shot of me shaking the prosecutor’s hand, might as well get you too.” Good luck.”

As Helmutov continued to see his past, he heard a ringing noise, it was his alarm. Helmutov stretched his legs. He was in a cold sweat. The minutes in his sleep had been hours in the real world. With all of these visions clouding his mind, Helmutov searched in his memory for what he had planned to do today. He remembered his phone call with Luka, and slowly dialed his phone.

Victory! Alba and Cymru Pulls Off the Impossible... Twice!
Gold Coast, Northwest Kalactin

Conchúr MacGregor strode out of De Common's Volkenstadion drenched in both the sweat of hard work and the ominous showers of the spectating heavens, having defeated the Sarian in the third game of a wild run by Alba and Cymru in the World Cup. The weather forecast of the ensuing match at Volkenstadion promised a calm setting for the one-sided match, but meteorologists couldn't have been more wrong. Thunderous clouds were slouching towards the stadium just an hour before kickoff, but pleas by Sarian manager Miccal Druiven to postpone the match and to change venues were met with denial by Bondsaari sports officials, who stated that any inconveniences to sports fans would not be made in the name of a low-ranking team like Alba and Cymru. The Celtic footballers, having learned of the insulting decision by the Sarian, were adamant about knocking the contemptuous Saari off their high horses.

A light shower greeted the game in the opening minute as the ball started in Celtic possession. MacGregor and Seumas Colquhoun focused on safe passes between themselves and the Celtic midfielders, opting to not take too-risky plays in the early game and seeing how the Sarian would respond. Goalkeeper Oodel Duoztiun kept his guard against the Celtic strikers, and a heavy defensive battle heated up between the Celts and the Saari. Ghini Bondstad attempted to maneuver around the stone wall of Ramos and MacNeill, but any shot made by the Saari striker was deflected by the well-trained and hard-willed Celtic backfielders. Very little action was witnessed in the opening half, but the storm was still brewing.

The second half showed no remorse from the onslaught of the violent weather. The sky had become black an hour before sundown, and the field had become a mire of red clay and disappointment. Many fans had already left the stadium because of the lack of visibility. Despite the inclement weather, officials gave the go-ahead to continue the match. Many attempts by both sides to score a much-needed goal were made. The Saari were seeking a playoff spot, and the Celts sought redemption. The Sarian, knowing that regular time was coming to a close, opted to safely At the mark of the eighty-fourth minute, MacGregor broke through the Saari midfielders with the ball, shifting past defenders Kindvanbruux and Pieuz, and taking a legendary shot right through the middle of the net, almost out of nowhere, to give the Celts the 1-0 lead that they would hang on to through the remaining minutes.

"Winning may not be everything, but any win sure is nice to have," said goalie Áed MacNeill," especially against a team like [the Sarian]. For a while, it looked like we were done for. We should be eliminated by now, but these past three games have shown that we're still in the competition. We may be hanging by a thread, but there's still ground to cover."

"We were asked to do a job, and we got the job done," said Conchúr MacGregor in an interview the following day. "There's a lot of people who have turned their backs on us, and it's a shame. We saw what [the Sarian] thought about us. They made us play under a typhoon under stadium lights. Ya couldn't see one side of the field to the other. The mud was dangerously slick. They knew this, but they didn't want to give any respite because of 'inconvenience'. That alone shows you that they look down to us. But a 1-0 win is all ya need to send the message: we're still puttin' up a fight, and we're not going to the Cup of Harmony with our eyes low."

With the win, Alba and Cymru avoids disqualification from the World Cup for yet another match, but the day draws ever nigh. As Eura blows full-steam-ahead in the competition, and the next five positions essentially a free-for-all for a possible playoff spot, Coach MacDunn and his staff are fully preparing for a Cup of Harmony run. Team delegate Murchadh Mhathain is expected to hear from officials from Kelssek and Zwangzug soon.

Kayden Ross strolled into the press room at Jecken Arena with a slight swagger. His side had played with the passion and commitment that had so often made them a thorn in the side of teams who would expect to beat them. Damukuni and Bongo Johnson vanquished in the Campionato Esportiva. In World Cup Qualifying, a draw away at New Lusitania and a home victory over Audioslavia had highlighted their credentials on a multiversal level. And now the Spuds had completed the hat-trick - taking points off the top three seeds in their group, this time holding Turori to a 0-0 draw that prevented the Eels from securing qualification. He had much to be pleased about.

“Kayden, sum up the performance of your team today.”

“I’m very pleased. We dug in today and did well to get the result we did. You could say we could have been a little more aggressive, but a point against such a strong side is not to be sneezed at and puts us in contention to climb up the table.”

“What are your aims for the rest of the campaign?”

“I hate cliches, but we’re taking each game at a time at the moment. Qualification is out of the window, so we’re just here to win as many games as we can and hopefully climb up the table and reach the Cup of Harmony.”

“What is your response to the group of Jeckish fans holding a banner up tonight calling for Cocoa-bo to be banned in Jeckland?”

“As I’ve said before, there isn’t any evidence as of yet that it is addictive or performance enhancing. These allegations seem to come without any scientific merit, but it’s not really my department to comment on.”

“What is your opinion on the fact that an investigation from The Holy Empire is being funded by a Jeckish businessman, with Chad Minnett on the panel?”

“They’re free to do as they wish with their time and money. I’ve said what I think about Cocoa-bo. If evidence comes to light that I’m wrong then I’m happy to accept that.”

“If that does happen, will you be calling for an enquiry into Turori’s unbeaten record in Group 1?”

“Look, I’m tired of this. My team pulled off a brilliant result against Turori, and you lot ask me ONE question about the game. And THREE about chocolate drinks. I’ve said what I’ve said and I’ve got nothing more to say. This press conference is over.”

Kayden stormed out, with his PA in hot pursuit. "I'm sick of those wackjob idiots in the media." he fumed before she could get a word in. "I know I shouldn't have stormed out, but I'm not fucking interested in this Cocoa-bo shit."

"Yeah, but it's the hot story in Jeckland right now." she tried to reason. "You must have known questions like that were coming. Everyone wants to know who's behind this."

"I know, but why should I know? Why should I care? Besides, we just got a draw against Turori. That's a big news story, is it not? That actually has something to do with me as well."

"Look, we can do damage control here. Just stick to your line on Cocoa-bo next time."

"There won't be a next time." said Ross. "I want all questions about Cocoa-bo banned from now on. I'm here to talk about football."

"I'm not sure that's a good idea. The press don't like being shut out. Right now they love you and you wouldn't want that to change."

"Fuck the press, I meant what I said."

"Sleep on it. You're pissed off right now. We'll talk about this in the morning."

"Fine." Kayden said, and skulked off to his office. This should have been a happy day for him. Pesky journos.

For the first time in his national team career, Franky Adams had missed practice. And despite the precedent-setting occurrence, he had no good reason for it: in fact, he was in his room, playing WCC 20. His mind was not on the game displayed before him; his thoughts were on the real game, on the practice field with his teammates. He was hyperaware of the time passing. And sure enough, the moment practice would have ended, he got a call.

A glance at the caller ID surprised Franky—apparently Relié was not calling to yell at him. Instead, it was Tremblay's number ringing.

"Hello?"

"Franky! Are you okay?" Franky was surprised again: he'd still been expecting a scolding.

"Yeah, I'm fine, why?"

"I got worried when you didn't show up to practice. That's not like you."

"Oh."

"What happened?" Tremblay sounded bewildered that Franky wasn't stumbling over himself to make excuses for himself.

"Did you announce the lineup for next match?"

"Yes, but Franky—"

"And am I starting?"

"Franky, the équipe nationale is a large organization. Every person in that organization shows up to their job every time it's required of them. There's several dozen of us at each and every practice. And of all those people, only eleven get to start. That doesn't mean the others don't come. They're part of the team too."

"Yeah, coach: am I still part of the team?"

"That's up to you, Franky."

"Come on, coach, that's such a meaningless cliché. You've been benching me for political reasons, I have a right to be upset. You care more about disproving this Cocoa-bo conspiracy than about success as a team."

"No, Franky. I care more about the team's unity than about any one player's chance to shine on the pitch. You're talented. We'd be better if you played with us. But les licornes are strong enough to win without you. That doesn't mean you're not part of the team."

"Well it sure doesn't feel like I'm part of the team. I'm useless during our tactics meetings, on the second line for scrimmages... you've hamstrung me and then blamed the victim."

"Franky, I understand you're hurt, but the federation is putting a lot of pressure on me. I'm doing my best to keep you a part of the team at all and to work towards getting you on the field again. But you make it hard when you don't cooperate. Remember what I said: the support crew, the trainers, the reserves: they all come to the practices. It's the least that can be expected; they're a part of the team. If you want to be part of the team, you'll come to the practices too."

Tremblay's last comment had been given in a soothing tone, but Franky did a double take.

"Is that a threat? An ultimatum?"

But Tremblay had hung up.

Julián Quiteño looked a bit nervous, since he was completely aware of what happened that afternoon where the Huayramarcan national team got a dose of Cocoa-bo during the half time of a World Cup Qualifiers, he had been receiving some mysterious calls from a person on a private number, that person only breathed while Julián was trying to get a word from its receptor, he didn’t managed to get one, so he decided to ask some friend for a hitman in case of need, the hitman received complete access to Quiteño’s life in order to determine who was doing that call in order to finish with his/her life. That hitman also served a role of bodyguard for sometimes, discreetly but always present in case someone tried to get rid of Quiteño and what he pointed out on a newspaper. As always, people in Huayramarca little to nothing bothered about the matter, instead, there was a surge for QuackQuakGo searches on “Miraculous Cocoa drink” and some other weird stuff, even, some informal business at the downtown of the Metropolitan District claimed that they were selling the special “blessed drink” and some of those said that they stimulated performance even on the bedroom.

Of course, everything were conjectures made out of nowhere that suddenly popped into the air to earn some money for their families in severe need for income, still, Quiteño felt that he was under threat despite the “benefit” made for some Huayramarcan families with an unexpected income source. Quiteño decided to meet at the Estadio Nacional de Huayramarca with Sir Barsanuphius, the leader of the Independent Cocoa-bo Commission, a multiversal entity coming from The Holy Empire in order to depict what is Cocoa-bo and find it’s supposed effects in people that has consumed it in order to impulse a claim to forbid its consumption for footballers at the World Cup Qualifiers, which is a long and tortuous road to the World Cup Committee headquarters at Canterlot, Equestrian States. Quiteño greet Sir. Barsanuphius while the hitman was taking a close look at the meeting and the surroundings, his main priority was to protect both of them, specially Quiteño by paying a lot of money to earn his protection.

Quiteño explained with complete detail and proofs to Sir. Barsanuphius what happened at that meeting, when Mina, the Huayramarcan president, asked for some doctors which are well positioned at the “nomenklatura” of it, to force-feed the players with that strange Cocoa-like beverage, he suddenly played a recording at his phone and handed it to the Sir, the words came out as vibrations to the ears of the commition “Considering the lack of good results that the Condors have achieved during this World Cup Qualifiers, we think it’s our responsibility as government to supply all of you with the very best in order to deliver success to Huayramarca, hence, I called this doctors to provide you Cocoa-bo, which is a chocolate beverage made to enhance performance of you all, I’ll let the doctors to explain that to you better.” vibrations that also stunned them because they were, first of all, surprised by the fact that a president force-fed an entire team suddenly and had medical staff to enforce the consumption of said beverage. All of the sudden, he also revealed the players some statistics about Abraham Mendoza, the player who promoted for the consumption of said drink in order to encourage the players to do the same that he was doing:
Drink it, it’s true what they say, as a Chemist in process I can confirm its benefits, it seems that there’s some glutamic acid in it, thiamine, nicotidamine, and other components that, indeed, enhances your performance.”

A knowledgeable fallacy, where Mendoza used his know-how on the matter to promote benefits by drinking the beverage, hence, the players were able to drink it without need for more pressure from the authorities or some external agent that Mina would have asked for intervention such as police or even the players’ families, since as we know, the President is quite capable to perform such dirty antics on people to persuade them or force them to do what he wants, a despicable way but effective for him all along his meteoric rise into power, even at the Autoridad Municipal de Tránsito of Guayaquil (The Municipal Authority of Transit) where he forced the infractors to call their mothers by pointing them with a gun in order to beg for pardon from they.

The Commission was worried also for the involvement of certain animals at the room, which Quiteño denied in order to clear the facts even more. Apparently, the claim is based on the fact that at the 80th World Cup Finals, a bunny was caught drinking Cocoa-bo and it didn’t needed help from its teammates to defeat their rivals, something that was extremely surprising and also worrying due to the alterations it can make at animals. Quiteño listened to the animal part and he figured at his mind “Leaving this up to llamas, specifically the dangerous kind of those might be a terrible idea that may be up to governmental consideration in order to terrorize people under hypothetical false-flag attacks on the Huayramarcan populace.

Things wrapped up, Quiteño shook hands with the Commission, they left as quick as they appeared, Quiteño was leaving the facilities of the Estadio Nacional and he found a surprising scene, his hitman-bodyguard-esque employee was shot dead on his head, a note was found on his corpse saying “Tienes los días contados” (Your days of life are limited) and another paper also was found “Nunca tuviste que hablar más, sapo” (You didn’t had to talk too much). Quiteño was scared and called his friend, who provided the contact of the hitman to say “Marco, the hitman was killed, I’m so scared for real.” The friend replied “Get out of the stadium now, it’s something clear that they have been following up your steps.”

Quiteño rushed with his car, drove towards his native Cumbayá while the brakes were failing, the road to Cumbayá is hilly and dangerous, so he would fell into a gorge but he managed to stop at a local road and crash his car intendedly to brake it, he did it and then he ran into the hills.

World Cup 85

A TEAM EFFORT
Jeckland 1-3 New Lusitania
@Jeckland National Sports Centre, Rack City (Att: 92 564)

New Lusitania would move on from the disappointment of Aveiro against Sajnur and move to greener pastures to face the Spuds of Jeckland in their national sports centre in the capital Rack City. After poor performances in the attack, Paciente was given a new chance to create as he was on the starting lineup, that being the only change. With a practically packed stadium in the massive arena, the game would get under way after the usual formalities. Jeckland made clear that New Lusitania were playing on their turf as two early warning shots came past the defence by the feet of Stack and Dane. The Selecção would draw first blood in response however as by the half hour mark, an assist by Paciência gave Jota a thirteenth goal, hopefully with no binding curses. The halftime period approached with New Lusitania leading but a great cross by Martel into Dane would see the ball controlled into the net to make it square right before halftime. In the second half, things would continue in the same cat and mouse fashion, but the second New Lusitania goal put a damper on things when Fernando put a through ball onto Paciência to give the youngster his seventh goal of what was is his first cycle as a semi-regular. Jeckland would manage to pull it back with an amazing shot by Sanderson from just outside the box, but the fact that the pass from Graves was irregular meant the goal didn't count despite its spectacular fashion. Just before the game's end, Horta would supply the ball to Veiga who would just proddle the ball towards the inside of the goal making it 1-3, a result which arguably didn't represent the game as much as 1-2, seeing the team play as a real unit today which could also easily argument the current scoreline as to how well they played. The result nonetheless stood and another three points kept New Lusitania dreaming with the World Cup, even if better results upstairs meant it became unlikelier.

Around The Grounds
New Lusitania were now a temporary comfortable fourth as Turori were far ahead at the top, adding to their wins with a 1-0 victory against Porticalia. Audioslavia kept second following their home win against Muradil by the same margin as Astograth comfortably beat the EOT away (0-3). Sajnur surprisingly drew with Necosia as Natanians & Nosts drew TJUN-ia. Next up is Natanians & Nosts themselves in the game in Coimbra traditionally a day for all students and youth of the country but also for the many academics of this City of Minerva. A historical city for an historical country in football as they look to get back to where they once were. Victor Santa Cruz is confident with the result but recognises that they "have many tricks up their sleeves". Every point is more vital than ever meaning the crowds will have plenty to watch.
