The two-thirds of the way there recap,
by Chelsea Dufresne, Concord Heights Times

Good morning, Fillies fans and everyone else who have taken the time to read this article. I come to you today after sixteen games have been played by Team Cassadaigua in the qualifying session for the 85th World Cup. We didn’t give you a detailed halfway recap because, well, many international readers probably had a plethora of halfway recaps in which they could read. Instead, we’ll do it here at the two-thirds mark of qualification. Yes, they were not lying when they said this was a long drawn out process. We had it easy last time out when we didn’t have to go through the same qualification period that us and Baker Park put everyone else through.

On the surface, when people look at Cassadaigua, they see a team that is 14-1-1, and everything seems all well and good. Maybe right now it is, but getting here was not an easy task. There were a lot of questions about this team before things began, with key personnel not being a part of the team any longer, or other questions, which I will delve into. First, in the group, the 43 points in which the Fillies have accumulated puts them on top of the group, but it is only two points ahead of second place Kelssek. This is an example of why many people don’t like the playoff system that can come with group formats of 20 or so. If qualifying were to end now, should Kelssek be forced to have to play in a playoff round? I find that this is a good example of why groups of 15 need to be here going forward, even if they create situations like we have now with thirteen teams per group. In third place is Timuria, who’s 32 points represent a solid campaign, but right now it is going to be difficult for them to qualify for the World Cup. In fourth is Sargossa, who has 30 points, but has played one fewer game then Timuria, so you can decide for yourself if you want to consider them a third place team or now. This means that Cassadaigua’s “magic number” is 15, as 58 points right now would see them in. A 5-0-3 record does it even if Timuria and Sargossa run the table, but even better is expected out of our team.

The best teams in World Cup qualifying right now are Vilita, Banija, and Baker Park, all of whom are 15-1-0, but the +50 goal differential of Cassadaigua’s is the highest of anyone, and that should get you excited. Not because it means, “Give us the World Cup now!”, but given some of the issues that the team had to address, it tell us that the right decisions were made.

Let’s start in goal, where there was question as to whether or not Kelsey Morgan, at 33 years of age should continue to be the starting keeper over Tiffany Nelson, who is 27 and in the prime of her career. Nelson started in the Copa Rushmori, and allowed only one goal throughout the entire group stage, which strengthened her case. If Kelsey Morgan succumbed to the pressure just a little bit, then it would have likely became Nelson’s job, but Kelsey seemed to thrive with this pressure was on, performing exceptionally well in the Wonder Cup and then in the aggressive slate of friendlies that were scheduled. Nelson did well, too, but Morgan was seen as a little better, and as the incumbent, the job was hers. In qualifying, Morgan has been brilliant, starting in 14 of the 16 games thus far. Nelson has had two starts, and also done very well. She will get her third start of qualifying in the next match, on the road at The Mann Clan. According to manager Stephanie Sweeney, “Tiffany has earned the right to get some starts here and there, and we are completely comfortable with playing her.” Perhaps, Nelson will get a few more starts towards the end of the campaign if Cassadaigua locks up their spot early. Kelsey Morgan agrees that it is good to have two keepers on top form, “Like I have always said, Tiffany and I are close and push one another to be the best that we can be. Right now, I am happy with how I am playing and I am happy with how she is playing. I am glad that I have a day of rest here and there, especially with so many games of qualifying.”

In front of the goalkeeper, we have a group of fullbacks that have seen some turnover with two new starters. The established veterans have been outstanding, and I would go as far to say that Lupe Enriquez has been the best defender in the world right now. Fine, I see that through pink-colored glasses, but her all around game coupled with amazing leadership gives her a great case to make this statement. I am keeping in mind here that this is not a team that plays a park the bus type defensive system, too. Enriquez has credited her time with Busukuma AC, in Banija, as being imperative in her improvement as a player even when she was already seen as great. Brooke Sutter also continues to develop into a great one. The newcomers, Kimberly Carson and Katie Standish, have thrived and while they have not been perfect, they have been able to withstand the pressure. For the 23-year old Standish, who won the spot over older and more accomplished veterans, it’s another great step in her progression as a player, potentially making her a rock in the back end much like Enriquez has become.

The team’s midfield play has been brilliant, led by captain Sierra Mattison. This is probably Sierra’s final World Cup, and extended run in the World Cup could give her a case to have her #23 join the list of retired kit numbers. We can debate that when the time comes, and it would require a deep run, probably a semifinal. By the way, that would also give Lupe Enriquez a case for it with her #22. If they win the World Cup, then you can book that now. However, the play of Meghan Wolcott has been eye opening, to say the least. The team hoped that the 25-year old would blossom in this Cup as a two player that could also get her name on the scoresheet. What they didn’t expect is for her to be trailing only Rachel Schanke right now in goals scored by the team. Meghan, who also is known for involving a bit of flair into her goal celebrations, told us that, “I have been thinking about this World Cup for a very long time. It was time for me to make a statement. So far, I have begun to do that. I’m not going to go all Lauren Cheney on you and declare I am the greatest player that ever lived in her country, or whatever it was that she said exactly, but I know I can be very good at this level.” Wolcott was alluding to comments from Brenecia’s forward, Lauren Cheney, about what she felt about her role on the team. Since Meghan brought it up, we had to ask for her opinion about Cheney’s comments, “Maybe a little too direct for many, but I loved it, I will admit.”

Up front, Rachel Schanke has been as good as advertised, living up to her grandmother’s name. Some wondered if Eddie Malone, who was a surprising starter that was announced could continue to play at a high level, and now we have that answer. It is, indeed, a resounding, yes. The 30-year old has made the most of this great chance that he won during the Wonder Cup and the friendlies. Ashley Dahlin has been productive as a substitute, something that will become more important going forward.

Here is the goal breakdown right now of Cassadaigua’s scoring through 16 games:
Rachel Schanke- 16
Meghan Wolcott- 14
Eddie Malone- 8
Zack Pierce- 7
Sierra Mattison- 6
Ashley Dahlin- 5
Madison McClain- 3
Shelby Martin- 2
Preston Newfeld- 2
Lupe Enriquez- 1
Emma McKee- 1
Kimberly Carson- 1

This goal breakdown is about as good as you could as for. Schanke is leading the way averaging exactly a goal a game, with Eddie Malone also being very productive. Meghan Wolcott is continued her unexpected torrid pace. We expected goals from her, but not this many. Zack Pierce and Sierra Mattison are scoring goals, too, but the team looks for them to be set up players, especially Mattison, and they are doing exactly that. Ashley Dahlin has made the most of her time. Once the team officially locks down their qualification spot (because here in Cassadaigua, the foot stays on the gas until the “Q” is displayed), I expect to see more players get more playing time. Right now, though, this is going exceptionally well.

Meghan Banks was feeling very good after the draw to Mattijana. That was a strong opponent, and even though it was not a win, it served as another example of how the team had been growing and getting just a little bit better. After the game, she started fielding some questions that were being asked of her for the first time, asking her what she thought the turning point of the season had been, and if the team could make a run at qualification.

She thought that second part was silly. Banks really never expected this team to qualify for the World Cup. In fact, making the final field of 32 was never really discussed amongst the team. It was simply a case of going out there, having fun, and showing the world that their country, as strange as the concept is to many, could be competitive. Two thirds of the way in, there was nothing great about 22 points. A distant ten points behind Port Ember and Ko-oren who were tied for second. However, fourth place, could that be a goal? After all, the team did not really have a goal at this point.

After thinking about that for a moment, she stopped letting her imagination get the best of her. Their schedule was back loaded and any setting of a lofty goal like that would probably just end in disappointment. What about, then, finishing in the top half of the group, meaning sixth or better? That would be a realistic thing to target, though would require a lot of hard work. They were tied with Tequilo, and everyone expected Tequilo to just be oh so good. Meghan would often start reading press releases from the country, but put them down about halfway through. Wherever they finished, they could be proud of themselves. Maybe they would try this again, but right now, they’d see if they could get some more points. “At Indusse” seems like a great chance to win, and then hosting Tequilo. Plenty more fun to be had, and she could only laugh. Tequilo probably sees that game as pressure filled and imperative to win all the while her team will just be going out there and enjoying themselves.

SavojarSports.sj - inside reports from all Savojarna
Qualifying hopes receive setback with Sanctanus draw

By Jaukka Halonen
It had looked so good just after half time, as Savojarna opened the second half with a victory and a draw, and the teams ahead of them dropped points. Last night at 22:00, the Savojars were perfectly on course, with Eshan down against Northwest Kalactin and the Northlights coasting towards a not exactly glorious, but seemingly solid victory over Sanctanus lined up. Following a goal by Markus Mellin, considered a risky pick in an important match but succeeding in bringing more power into the game on their right side, there seemed to be a consensus on the field that Sanctanus would attempt to push the Savojars back, who’d sit on their heels and defend their box, allowing for the occasional shot but not putting the goal in any serious danger. The attempt, however, would backfire.

With only minutes to go, one of the rather harmless Sanctanus crossing attempts bounced off the leg of Flemming Skov, and flew across the touchline for a corner in the 92nd minute. This left Sanctanus with a long shot to score, Savojarna amassing in their own box, and initially winning the heading duel, but the stance was too defensive and the ball came back into the box. There, it flippered around between the defenders, but suddenly, a striker had it on his foot, six metres in front of the goal, and scored. The Bjurman fell immediately silent, knowing that the 1-1 had likely been the last action of the game, and while Savojarna managed another attack, it was a hasty one and didn’t bring another goal. The 1-1 acts as a medium disaster in the short term, knocking Savojarna back to fourth place, although with an advantage in regards to the games still to be played.

As it stands now, Savojarna are one point behind the Sarian with one game in hand, and both still facing group juggernauts Eura as well as each other in Sjoedrhavn the penultimate matchday. In all likelihood, Savojarna can get that place back, but more concerning is the second place in person of Eshan. They are not beatable in a single game, despite the Northlights having a game in hand, leading Savojarna by four points. This means that the direct duel of the two will likely be decisive for that clash, and they need to beat the Eshani in this game in order to gain the advantage. Under normal circumstance, it is fairly likely Savojarna will manage to keep up the challenge and make it to the World Cup, beating Eshan in a direct game again and holding off Chromatika (who need to gain more points before they could leapfrog the Savojars in the final match at home); however, they have struggled with the likes of Sanctanus, Adyatin, or The Sarian.

Facing the odds, Savojarna’s goal scorer Markus Mellin wasn’t too happy with the game, but also pointed out that nothing is lost. “They fought hard, and I think we got a bit complacent. It’s important to manage your powers in such a campaign, and we weren’t at our freshest really after that game in Terre Septentrionale, so I guess that played a role. Some guys definitely said their legs were heavy, over time, and then it can be a lucky punch. You bet we’ll be back in Adyatin, though, that will be such a big game, and the same goes for Eura”. Coach Mikaela Rangren took some of the blame on herself: “Maybe I should have done more in the back line, and I think that it was obvious in the end that the fullbacks were a bit tired, so I think this wasn’t the strongest we could have played and we felt the impact of that 3-3 game. We would have wanted more from that game, sure, but in the end we are a victory against Eshan and a campaign without losses to lower-ranked sides away from the World Cup. If you’d given me that before the campaign, we would all have signed it, I think”, she said in the post-game interview.

Now, the upcoming duo against Adyatin and the Jovannic is a weekend where Savojarna absolutely need to get six points out of if they want to ensure that they can keep the pressure on the top. Again, the duo starts with an extremely high-profile away game, although not for reasons of table importance, but because of the political and historic tensions between the countries involved that have been spiralled to a new high after their first match ended 3-3 with a contentious refereeing decision, and Adyati troops have been posturing at the Savojar border. Then, there will be another important home matchup against a lower-ranked side that proved its threat potential with four points out of two games against Chromatika. Underestimating the Jovannic Empire could prove fatal for Savojarna’s hope as they prepare for the truly most important part of qualification, with home games against Eura and Eshan following in the next two international breaks.

Boot It!: The Unexpected Point - We'll Take It

Postby TJUN-ia » Mon Jun 08, 2020 8:22 am

We didn't know that we would be going to the Niurka Stadium in Ciarkhan until a few days ago, but that didn't stop 15,000 TJUN-ian from turning up to see what the Jags could do against 3rd place Sajnur. The Jaguars entered this game on a 2-game points streak after back-to-back wins. The team was in the highs of 8th but weren't expected to take anything from this game. Sajnur would be keeping an eye on Cathair too, as Audioslavia met Turori in a big game for the group.

Sajnur needed to do their bit and they certainly did. Andre Naulo scored in the 33rd minute and after that, the rest of the 1st half consisted of failed attempts by the home team to put this game away. The 2nd half saw more of the same until the 73rd minute when Vladimir Podolov tied the game. The rest of the match saw TJUN-ia try and hold on to the point, as Sajnur attacked over and over again but Gylfisson and the back 4 held on and so did TJUN-ia.

Both teams came away with a point. TJUN-ia remained in 8th but closer to 7th, Sajnur didn't lose ground after a 0-0 draw in Cathair. The status quo remains...for now. Next up for the Jaguars is the final game of this campaign in Tiankong. The stadium needs a good send off, but 6th place Jeckland will not be an easy opponent to beat. We may have beaten them in Rack City, but the team needs to ensure that the Spuds don't to the same. GO JAGS!

(Following the game against Lisander)

Hank Andrews: Coach, I don’t know how much more of this I can take. There are just so many games.

Clyde Benner: Wearing on ya? I suppose it is more too.

Hannah Sanders: I know it’s tough but we have to keep on playing hard. There are still a lot of games for us to play, and points that are out there if we want to stay in second place!

Hank Andrews: Coach, let’s be real with this. We’re old. It’s wearing on us.

Roger Grant: I know but we have to keep trying. We can make that World Cup if we do.

Edwin Conney: I thought we all agreed that we would not talk about the need to stay in second place. We got here by not thinking about having a chance to qualify and being an underdog, we have to stay with that mentality. The pressure will get to us, otherwise.

Clyde Benner: Like it did on the second goal you let in?

Hannah Sanders: Now, now, don’t do that.

Edwin Conney: Screw it Clyde, I messed it up, how many more times do you want me to say that?

Clyde Benner: Critical points we dropped there because of it. But yes, no pressure.

Edwin Conney: It wasn’t the pressure, it’s because I am human.

Clyde Benner: Sorry, I was out of line. You are right, just you know, it is hard not to think about maybe qualifying for this thing.

Hannah Sanders: No one will be perfect out there, but we have to make sure we are all on the same page in our trap game before the big ones.

Hank Andrews: Coach, can I sit out the game against Caelapes? I hate saying that but I am old and sore. The sports gel works for the game but it hurts like a bitch now.

Roger Grant: Let the man sit.

Hank Andrews: We have Banija and Hapilopper back to back. More important games, definitely.

Hannah Sanders: I suppose. I wonder if it would be legal for Brianna Carter to start.

Clyde Benner: I don’t see why it wouldn’t be legal.

Brianna Carter: You mean you like want me to play?

Edwin Conney: You’re boss will hate that, Hannah.

Hannah Sanders: All the more reason to do it. Hey, how about I start both Brianna and Brittany for the match. Henry Mashburn can get needed rest too, and you guys can be ready for Banija.

Henry Mashburn: Yea I am getting sore as well.

Hannah Sanders: Then it’s official, next game, we start Brittany and Brianna.

Brittany Carter: I haven’t played a soccer game since the Campionato Esportiva.

Roger Grant: Playing with the pretty young ladies will be uplifting.

Clyde Benner: And you’re boss will be absolutely livid. But this break any agreement with Freestyle Mobility? You better check on that.

Hannah Sanders: Yes, I will talk to them about it, but since it is just for one game and since Brittany and Brianna are also paid models for them, I can’t see them having an issue.

Brianna Carter: I don’t know if I am ready to play.

Hannah Sanders: We have a few days to prepare, and it is an element of surprise that should work in our favor for the match.

Edwin Conney: I feel this is a good idea!

Setting is the Banijan Ministry of Defense

As the Banijan side broke off for their 10 minute break, there was hot debate from some of the words of Chancellor Meier. Particularly, the question about what to do about Busogan opposition. It had been a question that had been broached in preparatory meetings for the day, but they had never really been able to satisfactorily answer the question. And now, of course, was the time to come up with an answer. There was a proposal, from the Kabaka, that could possibly be broached- they'll see if something like that could work.

Once they began again, Kobe Azizi stood up and began speaking for the Banijan side. "We'll go through point by point. First, in terms of cooperation regarding centrifuges. Fessler-type centrifuges do sound like a great idea in regards to enriching uranium. It seems like the uranium, via that path, can be enriched both efficiently and quickly. It is an investment that we would be willing to make, so that we can have similar technology in country. We will send our team of scientists to Chernovets in short order to learn about this design, and further cooperation in this area."

Kobe Azizi then sat down, and nodded down the table, where the Minister of Defense rose and began speaking. "We completely, of course, understand a hard ban on the outright export of nuclear weapon technology. It is a sensible way to ensure that nuclear weaponry and its materials, since they are so dangerous, are managed responsibly. Banija would, of course, put similar laws in place as we continue to develop our program. Assistance on being able to develop these weapons domestically would be greatly appreciated, of course. We will ensure that military engineers in this country can meet with yours, on a regular basis, as soon as possible to ensure this is possible. I myself, as the Minister of Defense, will oversee this personally to ensure that this goes smoothly."

He then sat down. The Banijan side looked down at Isebantu Mutungi, who then rose. And then, right before he began speaking, the Kabaka rose. "I think it's best if I address this directly." Kabaka Mwanga said. "As everyone in the room knows, Banijan-Busogan relations have not been at the level they should be, after independence. You could put the blame in any number of places, but I'm not really interested in dissecting the blame game here. It is the fact of the matter- there is a lack of trust between our two sides. We have basic diplomatic relations, of course- we have an embassy in Lakiska, and a consulate in Dukuma. They have an embassy down the street from this building, while having a consulate in Istria. But the ability to further develop has been hard. We haven't even been able to reach a citizen agreement between our two nations."

"But, now we are onto the next political generation. I was the Isebantu when they became independent, now I am the Kabaka. Delbin Kasekende was Banija's national team goalkeeper when they became independent, now he's the President of the whole country. There is, I believe, an opportunity to engage with other powers who may worry about Banija. Banija, I will always assert, is a responsible, rising nation. We threaten nobody- we desire peace with all of our neighbors. Now, of course, you have to view the present through the eyes of history, and I understand that history between Busoga and Banija has a painful past."

"But, I believe that the issue can be addressed head on. Busoga is not the only nation with concerns- Timuria, whom with we share a northern border, has concerns as well. There has never been a high-level diplomatic visit between the Busoga Islands and Banija. Even treaty negotiations have been held below-cabinet level, or via either video conferencing or the phone. I believe that this could require a personal touch. An invitation to have either their Foreign Minister or Vice President pay a visit to this Palace, to meet with my son Mutungi, could pay dividends. Could ensure that we hold no anger, that we are not a threat. As for Timuria, their concerns are similar, although coming from a different place. I believe that communication would be best there as well."

"It is when lack of communication takes hold where mistrust fosters and develops. We believe that communication with Timuria, ensuring them that we would never point weapons at our neighbors, that defense is a priority but our bilateral relations are a priority as well, could help put them at ease, even if they oppose nuclear weapons in general.

What are your thoughts on this, Chancellor?" Just then, Isebantu Mutungi called for another small recess, as aides came in with snacks and small drinks. They would see what their counterparts thoughts were on the proposal.

World Cup 85 qualifiers: Kelssek with a chance if they keep pedal to the metal
SPORTS | by Eamon Williams

They seem uncomfortable with the “Q-word” in the football Voyagers camp – qualification, for the World Cup finals, that is. Kelssek were out of the big show last time, but a second finals appearance in three cycles, since their slightly surprising return for the first time in a generation at World Cup 83, would be a big boost for football fans.

Getting there will take a big effort to close out the eight remaining matches of the qualifiers – there’s still a lot that could go wrong and the team seemingly doesn’t want to jinx it. “We’re just focused on the next match, and then the next match,” said defender Damien Halliger, in what seems to be the party line in the Kelssek locker room.

Manager Andrea Crowe’s blunt assessment of the team’s only loss so far, a 3-0 drubbing away to Cassadaigua, was criticized in some quarters. “We were outclassed, and we move on,” was seen as a mix of defeatist and complacent, yet her sense that the result should be essentially ignored has proven to be the right one. Kelssek have won three straight matches since that nightmare in Concord Heights and now even has a cushion over the main challengers for the second qualification spot.

One of those was a crucial away win against Timuria, one of three teams who remain a threat to Kelssek’s ambitions this year. Kelssek’s star players were the ones to shine in that match, with Colm Ó Tuathail and Brayden Custworth getting the goals. Kelssek then closed out a solid 2-0 victory in Vickery against the group’s bottom side Olastor. Notably, Crowe opted to play a number of Kelssek Football League players who’ve had few chances otherwise, in part to save some of the overseas-based players who've been regular features of the squad another long trip home for the sake of one national team match.

Right wing Andrey Yusupov enjoyed his first start for the national team in his home city, albeit at the bigger rugby stadium rather than the home stadium of his club Strathcona Internationals. It’s worth noting that Strathcona’s narrative of persecution by the footballing authorities, built on the flimsy premise that UICA’s collapse was a conspiracy against them, has won them the promise of Cup of Harmony matches and money for stadium upgrades at Bowreach should the Kelssek-Zwangzug bid succeed.

Xanneria comes up with another draw verusus scary Mongles
By Steve Stevenson

MONGLECHADBAGAD - With the maroons slowly slipping, it was key to get points against a weak Monglechadbagad team that was really in political turmoil nationally and was only allowed to play in such a small stadium that nearly no one showed up. It was an embarrassment to the Maroons that they couldn't get more than a draw out of the "Mongles". This is now the sixth draw by the Maroons and despite the one loss to Equestria, the Maroons are in third with Huelavia having no draws. Well at least Vdara lived up tot he promise we gave them as they did pull an upset on Huelavia in their game, showing that us sweeping Vdara makes us better than Huelavia who split the team. But on our end we drew Moglechad, as they were playing for a country in turmoil and for all intents and purposes, they did well, and lets face it, they had a lot to play for. Goodspeed and good luck the rest of the way Mongle. Their striker whose name we have long forgot since our first matchup scored twice on Dom Brabham and the 70th minutes strike may have been one of his nations most important. While Laymore and co did their best, the one point draw isn't not bad as it could have been given results elsewhere. It's a continued march on as we hope to consistent pull out points and job this clearly broken points system.

Well They had a lot ot play for, and the emptyish stadium, they had a lot going for them and I honestly applaud their effort and with ol' Mongle the best heading forward.

Blood, Sweat & Glory - Part 10

Supreme Court of Justice
Court F
Lilly Black Borough
Port Ember Megalopolis
The State Vs Frazer Murray
Court Transcripts

Court-Sergeant-At-Arms: "The Court now calls forth Case Number 765/20: The State vs Frazer Murray. Let the records show that roll call certifies the presence of Judge Clarice Collins; Senior Prosecutor - Advocate Harold Clarke; Defense Attorney - Advocate Gerald Green."

Judge Collins: "Good morning members of the Court. As you know, the accused - one Frazer Murray - was arrested and charged brought against, for the contravention of The Port Ember Common Law, Chapter 1; Section 3 - Murder in the First Degree and The Port Ember Common Law, Chapter 1; Section 6 - Instigating an event which may lead to Grievous Bodily Harn and The Port Ember Common Law, Chapter 1; Section 7 - Initiating Public Violence. The Accused has pleaded guilty on all counts during the previous hearing. The State, and The Court feels that sufficient evidence was collected within the State's investigation to finalize this case. Furthermore, the Court believes that Mister Murray's plea was made out of free will and have not received any evidence to support a contradictory opinion. Thus, the Court will continue to pass judgement on Mister Murray here today, after hearing inputs from the Defense, as well as the State. Without any further ado, Advocate Green, you have the floor to make your case of mercy if wanted, before I make my decision."

Advocate Gerald Green - Defense Attorney: -Advocate Green rises from seat- "Thank you, Your Honour. My client, Mister Frazer Murray, has indeed pleaded guilty to all three charges brought against him by the state, and the Defense hereby certifies that this plea was done in good faith and on a voluntary basis, with no external factors cohersing such a confession. Now, without further ado, the defence would like to bring forth the following statements for consideration, to be weighed in when the Court passes its judgment today.
1. Mister Murray pleaded guilty on all charges before taking this matter to trial. Thus, my client has ensured that the Court and State does not waste time, money or effort in handling this matter, ensuring that the Court can continue it's good work in solving justice matters swiftly and efficiently.
2. Mister Murray pleaded guilty on all charges brought against him, thus showing remorse for his actions, prepared to accept the consequences the court deems necessary.
3. Furthermore the State must consider the state of mind of Mister Murray during the time of the incident. It is a documented fact that my client was discriminated against by the team and its management, leading to resentment against Mister Ray Reddington. Allow me to explain:
3a. My client has always worked the hardest in preparation for representing his team and country as a starting midfielder, yet was never afforded the opportunity, even though he worked the hardest, and shown the most dedication to the team. This culminated in the fact that when Ray Reddington behaved in an ill disciplined manner, swearing and shouting at his Coach, missing practice sessions, playing international matches drunk and high, and fighting teammates during live games, he was not replaced with my client. This is clear discrimination against my client.
3b. When Mister Reddington's actions finally became impossible to ignore due to media pressure, he was benched and finally replaced by my deserving client. Yet, when Mister Reddington displayed only a morsel of regret, he was again placed back onto the starting squad, without evidence that he has changed his ways. This serves as further discrimination against my client.
3c. During the event within the cafe which led to the murder of Ray Reddington, the incident was caused by Mister Reddington wooing one Sally Jones- the love interest of my client.
4. Indeed my client started the fight which led to the death of Ray Reddington by attacking him, which was only a logical culmination of the emotional injustice my client has suffered for over eight years, and the wooing of his love interest- however, during the fight Reddington obtained the upper hand in the brawl, beating my client repeatedly with fists. My client felt that Reddington would not stop, and thus that his life was in imminent danger, thus grabbing the knife and stabbing Reddington was an act of instinct and self defence, and not premeditated murder.

Thus, Your Honour- I conclude: My client was discriminated against in favour of players like Ray Reddington for over eight years. These players like Reddington took for granted their gifts, talent and position, by squandering it on alcohol, drugs and prostitutes, to the point where it affected the entire reputation and good image of our team. My client - Mister Frazer Murray however, has never been seen abusing alcohol, drugs, prostitution or engaging in scandalous or violent behaviour which may have brought a blight on the good name of our nation or its team. Despite my clients good behavior, he was always overlooked in favour of these hooligans. This had a serious detrimental impact on my clients self confidence, mental health and his entire family's financial well being. No human being can suffer such levels of discrimination without building up a subconscious level of resentment. The wooing of his love interest was the last straw for my client and made him snap in anger for a mere moment of ill judgement. He wanted to take control over his crumbling life - against the poster child of his misery. When he attacked him, the fight quickly turned against my client, and grabbed for the life in what he saw was an action of self defence. Yes, my client acted on poor judgement. Yes he made a mistake. This is exactly why he confessed to his crimes. The murder came as a result of self defense- although he established the grounds for the situation to escalate into violence. Thus what I am saying, Your Honor - he was indirectly provoked to violence by both the victim and the team's management- and killed the victim in self defence.

Thus your Honour - I plead: Mercy. Due to the extensive reasons and complicated conditions provided, it is clear that this case is not as straight cut as what the media would like us to believe. My client has accepted the necessity to be punished, the Defence will not argue this. I only plead mercy in the execution of Justice. Thank you for your time Your Honor."

Judge Collins: "Thank you Advocate Green. With that statement I declare the defence to be at rest. I will now allow Prosecution an opportunity to present a counter argument if deemed required. Advocate Harold Clarke, the floor is yours."

Advocate Harold Clarke - Senior Prosecutor: "Good morning Your Honor, and thank you for the opportunity. Now, I must admit that up to this point, I were pleasantly surprised with the humility and professionalism in which the Defence Council maneuvered themselves during the proceedings. Well, up until now that is. The Defence Council has managed to make a mockery of our sacred Justice system, and have attempted to take us all in this room for fools. They have cited absolute unproven garbage and have paraded it as fact. I am ashamed to be within the same room as Advocate Green at this moment. Let me clarify.

- Your first and second plead for justice all relies on the fact that your client has pleaded guilty, which must be considered as grounds for softening factors when determining the extent of justice rendered. To some cases this might ring true, but in this specific case, it is of zero importance. The fact that more than 20 citizens have witnessed the events leading up to the murder of Ray Reddington, combined with the fact that the events are recorded on CCTV, combined with the fact that the Port Ember Police Service arrested Mister Murray on the scene with the evidence intact, makes this point moot. It would not have mattered whether your client pleaded guilty or not, the guilty verdict would be the end result all the same. I plead the court to dismiss the first and second plea on this account.
- Plea Points 3 with its subpleas is where the mockery reaches this court. The Defence hopes to paint the accused in the light of being victimized for over eight years, yet in this statement he makes a mockery of the Justice System and the Port Ember National Football Team. Our Football Association is not build as charity organization. It is constructed to be a professional and achieving force in the sport. If one person is not selected to be part off the starting squad, it is not discrimination. It simply means that the player in question was not good enough to earn that position. Your logic, Advocate Green, calls for any person with zero aptitude to the sport to be forced to be selected for the starting squad, or else be classified as discrimination. That is an affront to our team, and to the strong values of our nation as a whole. Your mockery continues by stating that Murray has always worked the hardest within the team - and you dare to call it a documented fact. That is absurd as the concept is unquantifiable, and not recorded at all by any reputable source. Simply stated, the Defence is fabricating false claims. Furthermore you state that your client was not given an opportunity to form part of the squad even though the current players were misbehaving. The fact that you call selection into the squad an opportunity again shows your ignorance to the inner working of a professional team, and is an affront to the national values of dedication to labour and talent. One does not receive an opportunity in Port Ember- one deserves it. The fact that your client were not considered is not injustice- it's simple human nature that some people are more talented than others. Furthermore Advocate Green insults the entire freedom loving nation by stating that his client became angry due to Ray Reddington wooing his love interest Sally Jones. It's called freedom of choice Advocate. Read it up. It was a consensual casual conversation- that does not justify assualt. And the best part? Sally Jones and Frazer Murray was never in a relationship. She showed no interest in being in one. Mister Murray did not own her! Thus Your Honour, I plead for the Court to dismiss Plea 3 and all subsequent sub pleas.
- Plea four is yet another attempt to mock our sacred Justice system, by calling the murder self defence. One does not stab another human being twenty seven times in the neck in self defence. The law of self defence states that one is allowed to use force to stop an imminent threat to your life by exercising force yourself until the threat has subsided and nothing more. Twenty seven stabs Is not self defence. Its hatred. Its savage. Thus, I plead for the Court to dismiss Plea 4.

I therefore conclude that the state pleads the court for the accused be punished to the full extent of the law. The accused spent years in the shadows of more talented athletes, brewing his hatred, instead of dealing with it like any normal civilised citizen would. He had zero confidence and thus build up an obsession over Sally Jones, instead of dealing with it like any normal civilised citizen would. Mister Murray is a selfish, jealous, angry man who is a complete danger to society. The state calls for the Death Penalty. Thank you for your time Your Honor. "

Judge Collins: "Thank you Advocate Clarke. With that statement I declare the Prosecution to be at rest. The Court will now recess for three hours whilst I deliberate and consult my findings."

-Recess-

Court-Sergeant-At-Arms: "The Court is now in session and Judge Collins will provide his findings."

Judge Collins: "I will keep this short. I have heard, contemplated and consulted all the evidence laid before me. It is of no argument that the accused is guilty on all counts, and I have allowed the Defence Council to provide this court with an opportunity to provide mercy plea's. However, as Advocate Clarke has correctly indicated, these pleas were an absolute mockery. You have made bold and insulting claims, without providing an ounce of evidence. You have resorted to insulting the national team, its management and its players. You have resorted to mocking the core tenants and values of our Republic and of this court. I can hold no plea of mercy into the books, and you have resulted in causing more harm than anything else. It is of the Court's opinion that Mister Frazer Murray is a troubled young man, yet his troubles are the fault of his own making. He failed to develop and behave as any normal citizen would, and allowed jealousy and anger to overcome him. This court does not believe that the murder on Ray Reddington was planned out ahead, but the court does believe that Mister Murray held a hatred for the man, which he cringed to and when presented with the opportunity for murder, he did not hesitate to murder with extreme prejudice. This court also feels that the accused was a role model for many young people within the Republic, and the late Ray Reddington was a national hero. The murder of this profile, cannot be assigned as just yet another murder. This is an extraordinary scenario with extraordinary impact on our nation. Thus it is with regret that this Court deems it necessary to assign the highest possible sentence for the murder convicted. This Court hereby sentences you to death Mister Frazer Murray."

Butterfield Rovers

The First Kit
Image

Formed in 70BU as Butterfield Independent, the team began play in this dark orange kit, with black shorts and socks to go with it. It would be in 66BU that Butterfield Independent became Butterfield Rovers, at which point a more familiar shade of orange was adopted. The black shorts and socks lasted almost 25 years until 47BU, when white shorts were introduced, and the start of a long debate over shorts and socks colour.

Celebrated Classic
Image

26BU-23BU saw this kit used by Butterfield Rovers, and it was the winner for the Celebrated Classic category. The colour palette for this kit was a simple orange with black shorts, socks and trim affair. The orange shirt was offset by two black stripes down the sleeves, and a similar design was carried through onto the shorts and socks. Although it’s a design that is another “of its era”, and it’s obviously not the most popular with the “orange and white” crowd, it was popular enough to win in this category. It's also a kit that's aged well, with this kind of design making a comeback in the early modern era for example. The capital BR, an identifier for United Football League sides was still present. Interestingly however, come 22BU and the start of the GWNFA Challenge League, Butterfield Rovers switched to orange and white for their new kit.

Modern Marvel
Image

The 17AU-18AU effort was voted the winner here for Butterfield Rovers. In an era of kits with a fading pattern on them, Butterfield Rovers had a kit with a unique twist to it. As well as a fade from the lighter to darker orange, on the kit is a subtle square flame pattern, each containing their own colour fades. At the same time however, the kit itself looks cleaner and more minimalist than many designs of the past. A design in the eyes of the fan that was unique, distinctive to the club’s identity, and worked well. This was a time when kit designs were moving away from large, blocky elements to more intricate designs and fade patterns, and this kit was a good example of that trend.

Colour of Success
Image

Butterfield Rovers were one of the persistent offenders of some poor kits in the classic era, seemingly allowing designers to throw anything at the kits to see what sticks (almost literally judging by some designs). Their 9BU effort is considered the worst of the worst though. There’s little explanation for the white and black diagonal random pattern all over the torso and parts of the shorts. As well as that, the shorts were orange, something very few Butterfield Rovers fans backed. Another example kit from the era where designers seemed more keen on playing around with fancy new kit making tools and technology, as opposed to actually designing a smart kit.

And so a look back at 5 kits for each of the 16 Super League sides has ended. This isn’t the end of Kitblog’s work though, as coming up soon, we have some articles exploring some of the more interesting kit stories and kit choices that have appeared in Flavovespian football. From interesting and rare shades, to times teams weren’t kitted out as you expect, to the downright bizarre and unexplained incidents.

Deep Dive: Aaron Korkson

Image

In the second deep dive on some of the stars of the team we take a look at team captain, the 22 year old phenom from Kohnhead City #91 Aaron Korkson. For a period of about 5 years Korkson has been the next big thing for Kohnhead, and his arrival and ascendance to stardom are happening at the same time as Kohnhead goes international for sports. Korkson has been developed by Kohnhead City and got his first start with the 'A" team three years ago. Since then he has paired with Erin Maltos another striker to form the best attacking duo in Kohnhead and they are two of the biggest stars on the National team.

Korkson has been known to be a generational talent since he was age 12 and joined the Kohnhead City academy. "The weight of expectations is difficult to overcome. When you are told that you're going to be great or that you're the next big thing the pressure can get to you," is how Korkson describes the expectations that were put on him from a young age. He also talks about how difficult it was to live up to those expectations and how sometimes he thought it just wouldn't work out.

"After years of training in the academy, I'd say about four years ago I reached a breaking point. I thought to myself hey this isn't fun, I'm working, working, working to get better at the game of soccer and it's not enjoyable. I started playing because I enjoyed the game, not because I needed to and the game had lost all of the qualities I had enjoyed." Korkson decided to take a break from soccer but he soon realized he missed it, when he returned after three weeks he was determined to how should I put this... have more fun.

"If you don't have fun playing soccer, win or lose, you're not going to want to keep playing it, so I had fun." Korkson would play pranks on teammates, coaches, and other members of staff, and would invite members of the team to have nerf gun fights in their free time. His attitude seemed to rub off on his teammates and it transformed him and now the National team. "We just have fun, winning might be more fun but losing can still be fun."

While some question his attitude he claims it makes him play better, and effectively the whole team. "If we are in the groove, having fun, and wanting to play the game because we enjoy it, that's a recipe for success."

Another big thing for The Brains is that so many of them play together. Cogginter, Newcastle, Maltos, and Korkson play for Kohnhead CIty, and on the team everyone has a domestic teammate which seems to work well for them. We know Korkson has not reached his potential, and he is often criticized for his "having fun," way of playing the GAME of soccer. His career will be interesting and could be legendary if he can lead this team to World Cups.

Now on to talking about the full team. While The Brains had a bye in their last game, the game before that they hosted Kita-Hinode the number 10 in the World and a team that is pretty much a guarantee to advance. On the road in their first game they lost 1-0, and at Orange Bull Arena the score remained the same. In the loss the offense struggled as they do against the top tier opponent and Audrey Henderson played her worst game in a Kohnhead uniform.

Henderson's struggles lead some to believe that she isn't ready to start and the job will just be handed back to Ida Cogginter who should be ready for the next home game. Henderson has played well and she will have at least one more game to prove she can be a starter. It's also interesting to note that in the last two games she has played in Cogginter has gotten injured. While she may have rushed back to play the qualifiers opener is she really ready to return and play high level soccer? I personally predict they bring Cogginter back slowly and Henderson remains a starter by default for the next couple of games.

Group 2 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Kita-Hinode 15 13 2 0 35 13 +22 41
2 Drawkland 16 10 2 4 33 20 +13 32
3 Squornshelan Remnant States 16 10 1 5 39 29 +10 31
4 Kohnhead 15 9 2 4 29 21 +8 29
5 Busoga Islands 15 8 3 4 33 21 +12 27
6 Torisakia 16 7 4 5 32 25 +7 25
7 Donnacona 16 6 1 9 23 22 +1 19
8 Wreckeria 15 5 3 7 28 35 −7 18
9 Gyatso-kai 16 4 5 7 33 35 −2 17
10 Lochario 16 4 4 8 22 31 −9 16
11 Jantor 16 3 4 9 20 35 −15 13
12 Balaslandia 16 4 0 12 26 44 −18 12
13 EGM 16 2 3 11 16 38 −22 9

Above are the standings and Kohnhead remains three points out of second due to a Drawkland loss in their last game. Kohnhead and Busoga Islands both have a game in hand on Drawkland and Squornshelan Remnant States which is important. I will say this now, Kohnhead cannot lose to either Squornshelan Remnant States or Drawkland again and expect to advance. It's been a great run, let's finish this.

For their next game Kohnhead plays last place EGM in a game they should expect to easily win. They cannot underestimate EGM though and they must not stumble against the last place team. Here is the projected lineup, same as the last couple of games:

Sunset Part 2

Malcolm had not expected to be waking up to a football hitting him in the morning. It was apparent that, during the stargazing, he had fallen asleep on the beach. That was never his intention; he had planned to return home to prepare for the next day of the daily grind of year 8. Yet he remembered it so clearly. The night was fresh. The breeze was gentle. The sea was calm. It lulled him into a state of relaxation, one which allowed him to fade into sleep. Sand can be surprisingly soft in Letson, after all.

He sat up and looked over at where the ball had come from. There was a group of 12 or so boys and girls around his age, playing six-a-side beach football just a little way down the beach from him. Malcolm had seen them before – they often came down to the beach or the local astroturf and playing fields which were right by his favourite rocky outcrop on the beach, which is where he had come to watch the stars. He observed them sometimes as they played, not much for the sport which he had very little interest in, but just because he enjoyed peoplewatching, and he enjoyed depicting sports in artistry and writing. To him, it was clear to see who was good and who was bad at football, even if it was harder for others to discern. Undoubtedly some of them played for a local team or something – Malcolm knew of at least one youth team that played in the local area, in fact he had been paid to write up reports on some of the matches before – but most of them were just there for fun. The group often gathered after school most afternoons just to hang out together. They didn’t always play football, sometimes just chilling on the beach and chatting until the sun set.

They were all looking over at Malcolm, waiting for him to return the ball. He stood up, shaking the grains of sand out of his delicate blonde hair, flicking it to the right in an attempt to appear somewhat presentable. Grabbing the ball, he proceeded to kick it back to the group. They quickly returned to their game, which Malcolm briefly observed. That’s before he checked his watch.

“Crap”, he muttered to himself. He had slept later than he normally would at home – surprising considering the not-so-comfortable bedding he had for the night – and had become distracted by the guys playing football, losing himself in his thoughts and dreams. He had a real knack for losing track of the time or spacing out; he just ended up zoning out of everything going on in the real world, entering his own thoughts and his own world. It was his way of escaping reality. Because reality sucked.

Ñucanchi Ñan - Part 6.

Guayaquil, Department of Guayas - 01/04/1980 - 6:00 P.M.

Hot, extremely humid and offensive, those words are enough to describe how Guayaquil, the self-proclaimed “Northern Atlantian Oceania’s Pearl” is during the summer, which was slowly transitioning into winter at the region, still it was quite a nightmare to organize meetings or reunions at that place during the afternoon, hence the second Ñucanchi Ñan meeting was postponed until 6:30 P.M. at the Malecón 1950, a coastal walk located near the quite wide Guayas river. That time was something that people could cope with for a meeting, since heat is not that offensive at that time, also, the delicious sea breeze coming from the Guayas Delta was providing some supply to gather and focus on the actual reason of your presence at that place.

Walter was preparing technical stuff with Kevin, meanwhile, Marta and Augusto Buendía, the major of Tulcán was with her talking about how to convince the Costeño people who was gathering there, with some curiosity about what they were trying to talk in some minutes, they were somewhat anxious and trying to depict the best strategy to go out there and talk to them. To get a glimpse on how Costeños are, go figure out the typical stubborn person who tends to enclose himself into a couple of ideals, thoughts and quite intellectually conformist person, adding up a mindset that makes them think that their region is the best at Huayramarca, they need independence so they could avoid getting their money sent to the Sierra to help some rural and abandoned communities, they don’t believe in interregional solidarity. Buendía was known for being the antithesis of Hugo Mina, way more open-minded, transparent, and with better charisma, his aura somewhat depicted that when you tried to enable a conversation with him.

Thinking for a while, Buendía asked a random Costeño about what he thinks about Mina, the person said “Well, a president with great ideas, whose ideals make him fall off… He’s his own enemy, but one should prove it, not scream it out loud.” Marta asked “How so?” “Are you implying that he could boycott himself.” The Costeño stopped and said “Perhaps, he will always try to find an enemy, be it an imaginary or a real one, no matter who, but if you oppose to his ideals, he will consider you as your enemy, pretty much as he does with you.” While pointing Buendía, he was clearly recognized by the bystander, “If you prove that you aren’t an enemy to them, then you prove that you’re not an enemy for us, Costeños.” He sipped some water and then continued “He stole a lot of money from the AMT (Municipal Transit Authority, the organization that Mina lead before the coup d’état) if you show that to us, you’ll be welcome, since the worst enemy of a Costeño is always another Costeño.”

“The worst enemy…” Those words echoed in Buendía, Marta was also quite surprised since she didn’t expected that coming from a collective she thought was completely tight-knitted as the Costeño one, the bystander picked up a chair and decided to wait for the conversation, which rather would turn to be an open-forum, an idea that would made Costeños to get more enrolled in, since they are passional about their opinions, they don’t waste a chance to make themselves notice or to express what they think, they aren’t so shy as Serranos might be sometimes, but they were somewhat more political apathic as norm. The Metropolitan Cathedral’s bell ring was announcing that we are already at 6:30 P.M. Buendía finished his ice cream and proceeded to go to the podium with Karla, both were decided to talk some minutes and then let them talk.

“We, as Ñucanchi Ñan, think that we all are equal and we all deserve the same opportunity to develop, no matter if you are Costeño, Serrano or from the Selva, we all are Huayramarcans and we should support ourselves, as brothers.” A Costeño asked for the open mic and said “We aren’t brothers, we are divided, we are like a broken marital relationship.” Buendía said “Well, Costeño history shows us another version. “Who earned independence first and rescued the Sierra Weren’t they Costeños aiming to see one nation, one Huayramarca forever?” while pointing to the Salomón Bustos (Huayramarcan hero of independence, born at Guayaquil). “We are the same people; we share ideals and history tells us that.” While some other people clapped, the same person who asked decided to scream out loud “Shame!” Some others proceeded to follow up and then Marta said “See what Mina has done to you all? He brainwashed you, he is torturing you all mentally with fake news, may our cultures be different but not our ideals, that has happened always and will still happen, we will fight to achieve equality for all of us.”

While accusing Mina, some infiltrated supporter of him started to record the open-forum in order to upload it into a social media group for his supporters, things were somehow calming down, still, there was a lot to say and attempts to persuade those Costeños, who were at least 20,000 and were gathered by curiosity after listening those remarks made by Buendía. Something that may place Costeños into your pocket, figuratively speaking, is talking with property on knowledge, then Marta decided to speak “Well, has he done anything to improve your conditions?” Nobody was capable to provide a coherent answer to that question, in fact, those who were notably furious over the first remarks made decided to listen for some minutes, then, one of them took the microphone and asked to talk, then he said “Well, he hasn’t done a lot of stuff for us, he promised to do it since the first day and he didn’t delivered to his promise.” Buendía said “See? See how he used you all for his own benefit?” “Did you know that the Inti-gate (related to the images of the ancient Inca god “Inti” found buried on several Huayramarcan venues) was a sabotage?” He somehow got the conversation audio between Mina and González that some person from a neighboring room decided to record just for curiosity, he played it at the audio system and the words were for real, it was Mina’s voice undoubtedly, at Huayramarca, there wasn’t capability to do an audio montage or something related to due to the lack of proper technology or knowledge of it, hence people reacted at the declarations and were known clearly disappointed at the head of the HFF and how the president was apparently bringing a course to the National Team, in a moment when they needed to recover, hence, Ñucanchi Ñan promoted “For the next local games, take an Inti image and restore this for once.”

Things were now taking some shape and logic among the people on there, then, the recorder of the forum sent the audio files to the group, who in fact recognized that it was him, for real, it was Mina. News arrived to the Head of State about that meeting, at his own city, at his bastion on the coast, he read the chat and said “Well, it will be matter of days to hit them where they will hurt for real.” The payback he was insinuating was the mining project at the Illimani National Park, a sacred area for Serranos (Aymaras and Quechuas, specifically), doing that project would be a major blow to their identity, faith and morale. Mina was decided to take the phone, he did it resolutely and wrote to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources “Hey, Mr. Arias, could you authorize the mineral extraction at Illimani?” Arias, the Minister took some minutes to answer and he asked “Are you sure, there could be some potential sabotage?” Mina said “Let’s proceed, let’s show them who rules at Huayramarca.” Arias proceeded to give up the order to the concessionary enterprise for the exploitation at the Park, now, it would be matter of time to see the kettle boiling up and even some blood could be flying over the air, Serranos wouldn’t give up that easily.

The meeting at Guayaquil was now taking a positive path for Ñucanchi Ñan, since people agreed on about Mina’s poor management of the country, pretty much despite he had only some months at charge of it, but still, those few months were able to bring to collation what he could do in the other four years less weeks (the presidential period for Huayramarca comprises 4 years) or even more time, depending on his ambitions to vulnerate the Republican bases, weak, but existing ones at Huayramarca could crack down and turn the nation into a Clientelist State for a couple of people only, leaving aside millions of them in need for reforms and to provide a framework for a better life at Huayramarca. Marta elected the authorities for Ñucanchi Ñan’s representation at the Coast, she wasn’t sure about how Mina would react, she knew that any risk was proven to be needed in order to get rid of Mina before it would be too late for Serranos, or even Costeños.

ELEPHANT VALLEY MAIL
Sports -> Soccer
South Newlandia wins yet doesn’t impress

The Kinjestad Soccer Arena is the smallest of the South Newlandian venues for the world cup qualifiers, and understandably, the big matchups were going to happen elsewhere. 7489 tickets had been sold for the game between South Newlandia and Ottoman Syldavia anyway, getting the stadium to about 80% capacity. The Elephants had won the game in Ottoman Syldavia, but they only ever scored one goal.

South Newlandia 1-0 Ottoman Syldavia

The game actually went much like the first encounter, with the Elephants grabbing one goal to secure all three points.

In the 17th minute, Brandon Irving had a good chance after a pass by Finnley Wallis. He got a shot in, but Louis Timothie, the goalkeeper from Ottoman Syldavia, caught the ball.

In the 34th minute, South Newlandia went ahead. Simon McCabe had the ball in the penalty box, and he played a short pass to Kevin Mohamed. Mohamed shot the ball right in the upper corner to secure the 1-0 for the Elephants.

At half-time, little had happened, but South Newlandia was in the lead at least. They would have to try for a second goal in the second half to secure the lead. Coach Robert Wolverine decided to get Abdurahman Bishop on the pitch for Finnley Wallis.

The second half was largely uneventful, as the Elephants failed to get significant chances in. Because of this, the game remained close, and Ottoman Syldavia needed only one goal to equalize.

It took them until the 83rd minute, but Ottoman Syldavia did get a good chance. Jared Kubos was fouled by Karl Meyer in the penalty box, and the referee decided on a yellow card for Meyer and a penalty for Ottoman Syldavia.

Jared Kubos took the penalty himself, and the pressure was on Mikhail Trischuk.Kubos’ shot wasn’t great, and Mikhail Trischuk guessed the right side, and saved to ball.

With that, South Newlandia won the game and grabbed three necessary points to remain in the upper part of the standings. While the offense didn’t put up fireworks today, the defense and Trischuk stood solid.

Schedule for Group 13, Matchday 18

Juvencus (39) vs. Kuriko (330)
This match will hardly matter for qualification, but Juvencus might be able to push further in the standings.

Bliuji (99) vs. Pangurstan (311)
This match won’t matter either, as both teams are basically eliminated already.

Valanora (15) vs. Mavinet (218)
Valanora needs three points here, and Mavinet needs to get out of their slump fast.

Ottoman Syldavia (338) vs. Tamgu (79)
This match will hardly matter as well, but Tamgu should be the favourite.

Eraman (63) vs. Pasarga (25)
This match will probably be the most important one for qualification, as 2nd place visits 3rd. If Pasarga wins here, they will basically have qualified already.

The Kytler Peninsulae will have their bye day.

Plane of Possibility (148) vs. South Newlandia (228)
The Elephants will visit the Field of Dreams in Plane of Possibility next. We don’t know exactly how everything works there, but we will find out soon enough. The match in South Newlandia ended without scored goals, so we hope for something better here.

After all these years. Finally, I have them all. All three books of the Teachings of Kira. The sacred texts. Thought to have been destroyed in the attempt by the Kira cult to hide evidence, I came across them while looking through a thrift store bin. Apparently they didn't know what they had on their hands else they wouldn't have been there. They had all three books for 50 cents each so I quickly bought them and brought them back home. Going through them, a lot of things don't make sense. Who is this Lawliet guy and why is he automatically a demon? What's the context? This is why I prefer movies to books. Movie studios can at least make the stories somewhat coherent. Anyway, all three of these books detail the entire teachings of the god Kira, from the creation of the imperfect world, to the formation of the "Pisumikas" to make the world a "perfect" world, to the holy battles between Kira and Lawliet, and finally the culmination of the perfect world when they raided the book factory and freed the children. Over 300 pages per book and over 400,000 words, these books made up the foundation of Kiraism. Although I do wonder who actually wrote these books. You would think it was Jared Voss, the guy who started the cult. But it would take an awfully long time to write these, even with a computer. And according to evidence, Voss didn't start formulating the cult until December 2013 and these books arose in April 2014. So it's unlikely that he wrote them beforehand. Also what idiot would waste his life away writing nonsense? An idiot with no life, that's who.

But I don't want to keep these books for myself. I'm not a religious guy nor am I a collector of antique books so I have no use for them. But maybe you guys do. I will give these books to you. Yes, all three books of the Teachings of Kira, straight from the thrift store bin that I paid a total of T$1.50 for, can be yours. I only have the one set so I can't give everyone a copy, so we'll do a giveaway. If you go to http://www.bleam.tor/bort, you can claim up to 25 entries into the giveaway. The more entries you have, the better your chances to win. All you have to do to claim entries is bookmark http://www.sportswithbort.tor, follow me on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, like my posts on said sites, retweet my tweet, post my Instagram image to your story, reply to each post explaining why you should win, use the code "BORT" for 10% off your purchase from SwiftShave®, and send my unreliable source hate mail. Do all of that, and you'll have a good chance of winning. The giveaway will go until June 13th, so you have a week to enter. On June 13th at 2:00pm I'll draw a winner and contact them.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

For those of you that don't win, you'll get something in consolation. If you enter and claim all 25 entries, you get a personalized autograph photo of me, Bort Stevens. You'll also receive a worn piece of clothing by me, absolutely free (just pay separate shipping & handling). But I'm still not done! If you enter and claim all 25 entries, you'll also get a SwiftShave® Swiftly Shave Kit AND a 1-year subscription for Webizy absolutely free (just pay separate shipping & handling plus a separate 5-easy payment processing fee). You get all of this: a personalized autograph photo of me, a SwiftShave® Swiftly Shave Kit, and a 1-year subscription for Webizy for just 3-easy payments of free. That's right! Absolutely free (just pay separate shipping & handling plus a separate 5-easy payment processing fee)! So you have nothing to lose, and everything to gain. Why am I smashing my hand with this hammer? Why am I smashing my car with this hammer? Why am I smashing my table with this beautiful wood? Why am I smashing this 6000 pound car with this bug bazooka? To show you how I'm going to smash you, your family, and even your dog if you don't pay a fortune to me for whatever I'm selling. You gotta enter now if you want to live to see another year. Enter right now!

You may be thinking "but Bort, aren't the Teachings of Kira books considered 'evidence' in the Kiragate investigation? Wouldn't it be illegal to sell them?", and you'd be right, quite right. But it doesn't matter, because I made scans of every page and sent them to the Kira Commission so there's no hassle. Plus I have immunity so I can do pretty much whatever I want. "But isn't making copies of a book illegal?" you ask. Well whoever wrote these books never filed copyright for them so they're technically in the public domain, so there's no legal issues with copying them. "But if that's the case then couldn't you just print multiple copies of the books and give them away to everyone?" you also ask. To that I say: shut up and quit asking questions. I'm the one with the books. I'll make the decisions on what to do with them. If you want to copy them, buy your own. If whoever wins the giveaway wants to copy the books, they can do so. I just won't be doing it. It's too much work and honestly most of you don't deserve to have such sacred texts in your possession. Who knows what you would do with them? Probably use them as toilet paper because you can't be half-assed to go to the store and buy some. You lazy rufffurens.
You ever woke up one morning and just decided it wasn't one of those days and you were gonna break some stuff?

Tenkyo, Just as the Kandorese team barged towards a crucial draw, the team forgot to win from the current number seven in the group. Basically an outrageous display caused Kandorith to drop points. The Lotus Warriors fought a valiant battle but sadly the opponent thought differently of what a fair game is about. With the Kandorese team still in the race for the top three, the games are heating up now and the nation looks towards Hayabusa to make football history for the Kandorese team as they travel once again to face HUElavia, the current number two. A draw or even a win would upset the entire table here and put the Kandorese team in a very good position who are currently only leading the number five by three points, a defeat could spell disaster.

"We did amazing but the referee seemed to be completely against us sadly." Hayabusa commented after the match. "We were sloppy at first yes but a lot of the fouls given against us were undeserved and completely took the pace out of the game and eventually disrupted the entire match. I don't want to criticize the referee and his team but it did not feel like a good match. Sadly this to us means that we have to work even harder in our next match. We have to prove ourselves now or it will be a definitive exit. Honestly I think we can do it, not just for the football fans of the nation but the pride of the entire nation.

"Our next match will be a tough one. HUElavia is a very tough opponent who enjoy football a whole lot. It will be interesting to set foot on their soil too be fair. I have tried to find some information on the venue we are playing and it looks intimidating. Too be fair I can't wait and the trip isn't that long at all so we should be well rested. Of course we will field the best starting eleven to try and snatch a win although, we should be happy with a draw already if we can manage. We've had stranger things happen during this campaign so who knows. In all fairness I think we should be at our best against a nation like this, even if we lose we should be able to win their respect by fighting to the bitter end and showing we know defeat in the game but not in spirit."

Imperial Delegation to Visit HUElavia

On an official notice the Empress, Empress Masumi was invited to visit HUElavia for the international game between Kandorith and HUElavia which invites for a great opportunity during these times. The Kandorese government and Imperial House were delighted by the invitation and will be attending with the imperial delegation and madam ambassador Noriko. With great care and caution the delegation will travel to meet other high-ranked individuals of the HUElavian nation. The Empress herself already stated she could not wait to see the city of Takoroyama of which the empress expressed "seems to have a lot in common with Tenkyo or Kandorith in general". The Empress will meet with several highly ranked officials of the HUElavian nation and will be the first time for the Empress to travel abroad for not only football, but also on a diplomatic dispatch.

For the government it means a wider view of the world, to learn about cultures and other governments, for the Kandorese people it will most likely be a unique moment to see the monarchy travel abroad for the first time again since 1860. Not only has Empress Masumi ushered in a new era for Kandorese lives, culture and harmony; now she will be the figurehead of a new point in Kandorese diplomacy and involvement in the world. The Kandorese imperial throne has been held by the same direct line of family members for generations, all descendants of the first emperor: Emperor Jifu, who is a direct descendant of the moon goddess. Empress Masumi is the first empress on the throne after the reinstatement of the throne in 1964. Making her the first modern day monarch of the nation. Before Empress Masumi her great-grandfather held the throne until he was deposed by the communist dictatorship of Mei-kan in 1931, which led to the destruction of the Kandorese way of life. Empress Masumi is not only the head of state, she is the symbol for Kandorese unity and the national culture; a figurehead for the nation and the after-war generation itself.

Previous parts of the story: 123456789101112131415.

Naomi realized that she couldn’t even imagine how she feel itself, if she saw this before visiting the monument. And she certainly expected ahhhh and ohhhh in the crowd, but there was nothing at all. However, according to the behavior of tourists, it was clear that they find what they saw is somewhat strange, but quite ready for perception. From overheard fragments of phrases in English, it became clear that Keith had already in full throttle trying to eliminate possibility of psychological shocks even before the event, and was supplementing her explanations right now.

Yes, Naomi and Wesley could also be shocked, but the monument revealed a lot to them. Although, in general, everything was so visible: standing next to the Trolleborg fortress in the middle of the city of Trolleborg, the center of the country called Trolleborg, it was not at all difficult to put together two and two. The root in the name, now-fallen tails, fangs on the monuments to the heroes of the past ages, and performance they just seen. Yes, this is a country of trolls, those same characters from ancient legends of distant northern countries, covered with snow and ice. Living in the hills and mountains, looked like a twisted man. Cunning and greedy sorcerers, eagerly eating a little human if opportunity arise.

But they managed to straighten up, reject their old terrible habits and move forward along the road of progress and into a bright future.

These thoughts were seconded by Kate:
- Well, dear tourists, you, I see, have not been so shocked by what they saw. Yes, previously I hinted to you that in the past we had a lot of scary pages. There were also some frankly shameful things. But this is all our story, and we do not deny anything. In fact, our present life was even more valuable if we can constantly compare with what was before.

Here she was silent for a moment and added:
“Thank you for pushing me on the right track. Your emotions were so sincere that I now understood a lot from what I knew before, but did not appreciate correctly. Well, before football you will have another three days of stay in our country. Let's have a drink of coffee and consult what exactly you want to see”.

Recollection, Chapter 4
Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3

Markkus woke up in an unfamiliar room. It was probably about ten feet by ten and bare, white paint over concrete. Apart from a utilitarian ceiling lamp that threw harsh white light across his face, the only fixture in the room was the metal slab, topped with a thin foam mattress, that served as a cot. Laboriously, painfully, Markkus sat up, resisting the urge to press his fingers into his temples. Across the room from where he sat, just a few steps, was the door. A stark gray slab of unpainted metal with a small window, perhaps a foot square. Peering closer, he noticed reinforcing wire strung between the windowpanes.

He was in a holding cell.

How did I get here?

Trying to think was like wading through hip-deep mud. He knew he had gone to get the memory procedure, Dzobroshtan had said something . . . something about monomolecular probes and a hardlight scalpel. Or had that been a dream? He shook his head, and instantly regretted it, pain lancing from the base of skull.

No, he had definitely gone back to see Dzobroshtan. He'd been sedated, but conscious, he thought. Dzobroshtan kept asking him questions. He couldn't remember what, but it had seemed very important to the surgical assistant to interrogate him constantly. Activity in the memory centers, maybe? He wondered, not for the first time, if Dzobroshtan had actually done anything to help him regain his memory, or if this was all just a huge scam and research project for him. If anything, his memory had been worse than ever since he'd first sat down across from the man. The week prior to the procedure was mostly a blur now, though he didn't think it had been at the time.

We were warned about potential adverse effects, were we not Markkus?

One thing hadn't changed. Melkochuk's disambodied voice was still floating around his head. If anything he had been even more persistent than usual. It occurred to him that any change, annoying as it was was likely a positive sign, since that particular hallucination seemed connected to the night he couldn't remember. It also occurred to him that this probably wasn't the first time he'd had that thought.

Indeed Markkus, your mental track has been rather circular of late. Very distressing I must say.

Our train of thought. You're part of my mind, remember Kiril?

Perhaps. But what makes you so certain that I am subject to the same mental blocks and vagaries of memory as you?

Because you're part of my own damn mind.

But not a part you have control over my dear Markkus. Don't make the mistake of thinking of me as your imaginary friend. I am something altogether different.

"Shut up. I can't think with you babbling about nothing."

I do tend to ramble on a bit, I'll admit. It's a vice of sorts I suppose, but about nothing? I would never insult you by wasting your time Markkus. Truly, I'm trying to help you To help us.

"SHUT UP!"

You make me sad, Markkus. You were much more reasonable the last time we had this discussion.

"Please just shut up for a minute so I can think. Oh Zark. I've really done it. I've completely lost my mind. I'm pleading with a voice in my own head."

Perhaps misplaced your mind Markkus but not lost. I can help, if only you'd listen to me. But you should probably stop speaking your half out loud if you don't want to spend your next years in a psychiatric ward. Someone's coming.

Markkus turned to face the door of the room as footsteps approach. A key rasped and clicked in the lock, and the door flung open. Two men with the telltale bulge of grafted muscle stepped into the cell. Their uniforms were elegantly nondescript. They approached him from either side, but did not speak.

"What's going on, where am . . ."

Without hesitation, the man on the right delivered an uppercut to his midsection. Weak as he was from the procedure, Markkus instantly collapsed to his knees. One hand reached out to keep him from falling totally prone, while the other groped blindly at the man who had hit him. As he knelt on the floor, desperately gasping, trying to catch his breath, Markkus was dimly aware of the second man to his left approaching and reaching out. He felt a pinch at the side of his neck, and caught a brief flash of an injector in the retreating hand. Before his lips could form a question, the sedative had already taken effect. What strength had remained in him faded, and the last thing he was aware of was the floor rushing forward to strike his face.

11:00AM - Ministry of Defence Building, Busukuma, Banija

Chancellor Dominik Meier held his glass of water as he chatted with the United Republics’ delegation in Banija. The discussion was squared on a final response to the Banijan comments regarding approaching the nuclear issue with the Busoga Islands as well as Timuria, and to firmly finalize the decision made on the assistance Siovanija & Teusland could provide.

As each side returned to the table, all eyes fell on the Chancellor as he rose to give his remarks. “Firstly, let me say that I am proud of the agreement we have been able to reach here today. The cooperation between our scientists can only mean mutual benefit for both of our countries, in a variety of fields. We are looking forward to welcoming the Banijan delegation to Chernovets, and I’ll put you in contact with Dr. Zacpal at the State Strategic Weapons Institute to organize the final details of the visit.”

The Chancellor now paused, inviting Nuclear Safety Minister Lukas Heider to speak. “I was glad to hear your agreement regarding the idea of the banning of exports of nuclear weapons and materials. As I mentioned earlier, ensuring total safety is one of the most important steps in a strong nuclear program, and I have full confidence that Banija will achieve this.”

Heider now handed off to the Defence Minister, Sergey Sedlacek. “Yes, I think we can all agree with Minister Heider on that matter. We are prepared to begin the assistance as soon as you are ready, and look forward to the first bilateral meetings on the matter.” He nodded towards his Banijan counterpart. “I too will be supervising this effort, and I look forward to working closely with you, Minister.”

With all that said, it was time for Chancellor Meier to speak again. “I’d also like to say thank you, Kabaka Mwanga, for your concern and leadership on the foreign policy issue. While we understand that the relationship between Banija and the Busoga Islands is a very complex issue that must be approached with care, we certainly hope for great strides to be made. And we feel that they certainly can be.”

The Chancellor paused. “We in Siovanija & Teusland understand perhaps more than most the damage that rivalry between two nations so close can cause. We lost millions of people in the many wars between the two nations before our unification. However, we are proud of the peace we have achieved, and have advanced into a bright future. While the path for Banija and the Busoga Islands is certainly different than that taken by this nation, we hope that a greater trust and understanding can be found.”

Taking a quick drink from his cup, the Chancellor paused again. “We welcome the efforts to foster greater trust between your two countries. We welcome the idea of a bilateral meeting between your two countries. There has been discussion within our country as well of a possible meeting with the new Busogan President, and we would present to them the same message of working to build trust.”

Chancellor Meier nodded as he continued. “At the end of the day, the problem between Banija and the Busoga Islands requires a solution from Banija and the Busoga Islands, and we will do what it takes to help. We also welcome your suggestion of communication as the best way to ease fears within the subregion over the nuclear issue, and look forward to hearing about the results of your dialogue with Timuria and other nations.”

The Chancellor now concluded. “I believe that’s all from our side. This has certainly been a fruitful visit, with agreements reached in a variety of important fields. I’m excited to see the results of the achievements made here, and look forward to the greater cooperation between our nations.”

Chancellor Meier sat down, and nodded at his Banijan counterparts. The important meetings were winding down, and the delegates on the United Republics’ side of the table felt that they had been very successful indeed.

HRT.TMR/ElectionNight

7:00 AM - Welcome to our election day/night blog, we've seen a campaign that has been impacted greatly by events abroad, with Banija's nuclear ambitions throwing the contest wide open. Following the all party debate the final polls of the campaigh looked like this on election night eve:

TIOC 30.4%
BAHP 23.5%
OK 15.1%
TKP 13.2%
ALTI 10.5%
SC 1.8%

These results would be historic in more ways than one, it take TIOC from a minority government to a majority government in Sabuktigin Imamgolu's third multi party election and fourth overall which would give him a potentially historic mandate. TIOC are looking especially strong in Demir and espeically weak in Goynuk and Arhavi, regions where the likely new main opposition party, BAHP are likely to be very strong with their large minority population. The right bloc, of OK, ALTI and SC will face a historic defeat, right of centre poltiics look set to face a catastrophic defeat that will reconstruct the political landscape, while the left bloc will stand supreme, with BAHP now likely to be the main opposition, with Ayla Afandiyeva the most popular leader of any party in the country.

Polls have now opened, with the expectation that TIOC will be forming a signficant majority government. We will be providing a brief overview of the main players in this election and a little bit of analysis as the day goes on until polls close at 7PM.

8:00AM - Who is Sabuktigin Imamoglu? The person expected to continue as Prime Minister has been in the office for three terms and looks likely to be in line for a fourth. The veteran left winger represents the continuity of many popular policies that have led to remarkable levels of development and quality of life in Timuria. As such that has meant his party has always maintained strong second and third preference votes even when their first preference votes have declined. The last election was a shock that left them without a majority and he looked as if he would be on the way out, but he clung on and looks to have secured a much coveted fourth term.

9:30 AM - Who is Ayla Afandiyeva? The unexpected star of this election, Ms Afandiyeva is a former human rights lawyer who succeeded her party's most successful leader, the current Grand Vizier Rahim Muhadow and seems set to exceed him. She's proven popular not only with the electorates BAHP are usually strong with: recent immigrants, Banijans, Shia Timurians and social minorities, she has reached out and managed to poach voters from the Liberal Centre as well as some from the far left and even some from the Right bloc's deepest right. She is currently the most popular individual politician in the country and many are now speculating that she could ride that popularity to a shock result tonight, some now feeling as if victory could be on the cards for BAHP, an unthinkable prospect.

11:00 AM - Who is Ahmet Yusupov? The market liberal looked at various points as if he would finally be the leader to topple TIOC, his party held consistent first prefence leads throughout the parliament and won key local elections, taking the mayorality of Demir, though their candidate had to resign due to allegations of racism leading to TIOC retaking the city. That in a sense summarises his leadership, great promise, even success including in the severe defeats he dealt a wobbly TIOC minority government, but he has apparently managed to grasp defeat from the jaws of victory. His party stands to get their lowest first preference share in history having almost tied with TIOC last election and are set to come third. His failures and toxicity spread to his allies in the right bloc and his leadership has likely critically wounded right-of-centre politics in Timuria for a generation, that is unless he can pull off a miracle and retain the position of leader of the opposition.

11:45 AM - What about the minor parties? Of the three smaller parties, all three look set to take losses, a natural consequence of TIOC getting a boost from the Banijan move towards nuclear weapons as minor party voters rally to the government. The SC look set to be expelled entirely from parliament a rapid fall from grace from their third party status two elections ago, a development that would be celebrated among the left bloc. The TKP, Timuria's most left wing party will also face, if the polls are to be believed, substantial losses as far-left voters move towards BAHP and TIOC, they will sit at around a dozen seats if the polls are accurate. ALTI will likely see a drop in the popular vote and their general toxicity means that they will not attract many preferences, expect their handful of seats to be at risk tonight.

12:30 PM - The reporting ban has come into effect, this blog will be suspended until the exit poll is released at 7:00 PM

7:00 PM - BREAKING: Exit poll indicates TIOC lead on first preferences and predicts a significant majority for TIOC:

Exit Poll:
TIOC 28.7%
BAHP 25.5%
OK 18.1%
TKP 13.8%
ALTI 10.2%
SC 0.2%

Seats (changes from the last election):
TIOC 351 (+106)
BAHP 110 (+36)
OK: 69 (-82)
TKP 15 (-28)
ALTI 3 (-4)
SC 0 (-28)
Ind/Oth 2 (=)

TIOC Majority of 152

Analysis: This exit poll confirms what a lot of us had suspected, that TIOC is indeed on course for a majority and that OK has suffered a historic and catastrophic defeat, in fact it appears that the entire right bloc has collapsed, right-of-centre politics, if this exit poll is accurate has suffered a generational defeat. What this means in the immediate future is clear, Mr Imamoglu, who was forced to the polls by his inability to compromise with either the TKP or BAHP, will now need to compromise and deal with the various member parties of his alliance. Though he will command a majority of 152 if the exit poll is accurate and will have almost unlimited amounts of political capital that may even embolden him to fight a fifth election, though most concede that's unlikely.

The long term implications of this result are yet to be seen, BAHP is a party that largely represents minorities, the young and those who live on the border with Banija, a complicated electorate to say the least, but that will now be more difficult for them to circle that square since they've expanded into a more national electorate that spans the centre and the centre-left. These pressures will also impact the nature of the opposition scrutiny on Mr Imamoglu's hard line against Banija's nuclear ambitions, it will be hard for BAHP to avoid accusations that they are somehow in alignment with Banija due to their electorate.

8:15 PM - The first seat of the election has declared, Gorevlik a seat in the rural parts of the province of Demir, traditionally the first to declare has returned their independent MP on second preferences. This result would normally not tell us very much as its dynamics are unique, but the total collapse in the OK vote to 3% of first preferences and the meteoric rise of BAHP to a close second place on second preferences, only 0.3% behind TIOC indicates that there may have been a green wave at this election.

8:23 PM - The second seat has declared with this one also returning an independent, Yeni Herzek a seat with a huge Banijan and Shia population in the city of Goynuk has seen their independent MP returned on third preferences as BAHP have risen an astonishing amount and ran the otherwise popular independent very close for the seat. A sign that they've made in roads in places against MPs who are broadly aligned with their policy positions.

8:51 PM - The first of the leader's seats has been declared, Dagkoy, Mr Imamoglu's seat has returned him on first preferences with 53.6% of the vote, a signficiant increase on the last election of around 5% Mr Imamoglu will likely be very pleased with this result and with his party taking a big step forward if the early trends are any indication, he will relish this personal triumph.

9:18 PM - TKP Leader in trouble? Mr Macaoglu, the leader of the TKP running in his seat Halkkoy in Uryan's provincial district finds himself in third place, narrowly behind the OK candidate, fortunately for him he has traditionally been able to split the right bloc and get a lot of SC, ALTI and BAHP transfers, usually meaning OK voters preference him over the TIOC candidate, but it would be a huge scalp for them to take and a big blow to the TKP.

10:00 PM - Early Analysis: TIOC, BAHP and OK outperforming exit poll - With the first preference vote in across the country, it looks as if the three larger parties are all overperforming when compared to the exit poll, TIOC by around 2%, BAHP by a more modest half a percentage point and OK by around 1%, this likely has implications for which of the three advance past the others in certain seats, with this leaving BAHP at a slight disadvantage in threeway seats with OK and TIOC.

11:00 PM - Projection - TIOC will be the largest party - Given the early results and the way preferences have been distributed so far, we are projecting that TIOC will be the largest party, likely to win a majority.

11:02 PM - Projection - BAHP will become the main opposition party - The locking out of OK in seats that they previously held as well as the poor rate of transfers from other right bloc parties means that BAHP will be the main opposition to TIOC.

11:53 PM - The SC win a seat - A shock result given that most expected them to fall out of parliament completely.

Midnight analysis - What does TIOC's win mean for the party and for international issues? - For Mr Imamoglu, a man who looked increasingly as if he had lost control of his party, tonight will be a boon, handing him control of his political fate (though most agree he will step aside during this parliamentary term even with such a big win) it also means that smaller parties in his alliance, as TIOC is a collection of parties not a single one, will feel as if they'll have more influence elsewhere. In particular the troublesome, centre-leaning, socially liberal Demokratik İttifak (Democratic Alliance) may be looking to take their project 23 MPs and either form a separate group or join with another party if they aren't heard by the increasingly left wing TIOC party group. It also means that Mr Imamoglu's strong opposition to the proliferation of nuclear weapons will come to the fore. He has issued strong statements against Banija's ambitions in that direction and a lack of action on his part will leave him diminished especially in the face of a BAHP main opposition who are energised by this result and some would say, even more opposed to Banija's nuclear ambitions on the grounds that there is a legitimate belief that it threatens minorities in Timuria.

1:01 AM - Projection - TIOC will have a majority larger than 100

2:17 AM - BREAKING: TKP leader loses seat on 4th preferences to TIOC.

2:42 AM - We are now able to project the two party preference in the case of TIOC-BAHP and TIOC-OK contests:

Two Party Preference:
TIOC 53.2%
BAHP 46.8%

TIOC 71.1%
OK 28.9%

3:01 AM - Mr Imamoglu has made an address from his party HQ declaring victory and thanking activists, in a defiant and gloating speech clearly aimed at some of his own party who opposed him he said "I know when to congratulate people, but I also know when I should be congratulated." He also extended congratulations to Ayla Afandiyeva saying "I know their party, I've worked with them, they'll be a fierce and loyal opposition and I look forward to facing them in parliament."

3:30 AM - BAHP HQ erupts into partying in Goynuk - Large parties have broken out in the city of Goynuk as BAHP have attained main opposition status for the first time, reaching voters across the political spectrum in an insurgent campaign that captured the imagination.

4:00 AM - The new look parliament - This parliament will look very different, so far 28 of the elected BAHP MPs are Timurians of Banijan descent, bringing the total elected in the previous parliament, 20 across all parties, up to around 60, more than 10% of the seats. There will also be more women than men in the parliament for the first time, with 277 GMVs elected so far who are women.

4:56 AM - Final Results: TIOC win comfortable majority as Mr Imamoglu remains Prime Minister

First Preference Results:
TIOC 30.7%
BAHP 26%
OK 19.1%
TKP 12.2 %
ALTI 6.8%
SC 3.5%

Seats (changes from the last election):
TIOC 332 (+87)
BAHP 117 (+43)
OK 79 (-72)
TKP 16 (-27)
ALTI 2 (-5)
SC 2 (-26)
Ind/Oth 2 (=)

TIOC majority of 114

Analysis: Mr Imamoglu will continue as Prime Minister as many would have expected, but he will almost be slightly disappointed that his party didn't match the exit poll projection in terms of seats, but a majority of over 100 is an achievement that will lend his career new life as he pushes on into his fourth term. The issue that will loom large over him is foreign policy, it was, afterall, his government that pushed for Timuria to open itself to the world and now he will have to show that he's able to manage the country and steer it through the crisis.

Ahmed Yusupov will almost certainly have to step down and will likely go down as the worst opposition leader in history. This result has likely killed the right-of-centre in Timuria as a meaningful force and as the leader of the largest party in that bloc he will be attributed the most blame, whether rightly or wrongly. His associations with groups many consider to be explicitly racist as well as his overall weakness in terms of a policy agenda that could challenge TIOC on their weakness during their minority government has doomed him. A strange fall from grace for a man, who only three months ago, held a lead in the polls and looked set to win a plurality of seats.

The other winner of the election looks like it will be BAHP parliamentary leader Ayla Afandiyeva, the most popular politician in the country. She couldn't deliver a plurality, but no one was really expecting that, but she has now placed her party in a position to seriously challenge TIOC from almost every angle. BAHP also hold the position of Grand Vizier meaning two of the three most senior politicians in the country will come from BAHP. Of their 117 GMVs 30 are Timurians of Banijan descent, the highest of any party and the party's base of support is in areas near Banija as well as in cities and large towns. This means that there will be a strong and diverse voice in the parliament to oppose TIOC.

Meanwhile, the minor parties each have challenges of their own, SC didn't face a total wipeout as predicted in the exit poll and will hold onto two seats, but they surely can't keep their current leadership and urgently need to bring in a new generation of politicians in order to survive and recover. ALTI have fallen severely, but Canan Yazici's future appears to be secure due to a lack of appropriate challenger, she will likely contest the next election and will need to show she's learned from this. The TKP will now have to look for a new leader as Kemal Macaoglu has stepped down, following the loss of his seat and they now no longer have to work with TIOC in a minority government.

If you've stuck with us all night, thank you for joining us.

Postby Valladares » Mon Jun 08, 2020 3:23 pm

At exactly 8:30 in the evening, the broadcast of the Vakolicci Haven & Celeria vs. Valladares match on TVV, Valladares' public television channel was abruptly interrupted with the Valladar side leading 1-0 with an early goal by Alexandre, to the groans of most football fans assembled at bars and mall squares. But just like TVV, every other TV channel as well as every radio station (most of which were also broadcasting the game) had to interrupt their usual broadcasting for a special Royal Address by Kings Marcus and Cyrus, the very first one they would make during their reign. Once the signal was cut, the national anthem of Valladares started being played at every TV channel and radio station signalling the start of the Address.

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is an important Royal Address from the Desk of Their Royal Highnesses, Kings Marcus and Cyrus of Valladares."

The screen went on to show the two kings, each standing on a lectern, and ready to deliver their speech. The Address was opened by King Marcus, who started his intervention by greeting the Valladar people.

"A fraternal greeting to all our citizens from the Green Palace, the home of the United Kingdom of Valladares, and of all its citizens, regardless of your ethnic, national, linguistic origins, and political stance. We would have loved to address our beloved people in our first Address in much more favorable and happy conditions, but circumstances compel us to make crucial decisions and to address our people with the responsibility that is so much expected of us."

"As you may know already, some zones of our nation are going through a tumultous period of anxiety and uncertainty, due to some recent political decisions which were not really well made. The division of the Mountbatten state into two states with their borders following linguistic divides was something that raised an unexpected storm of anger, dissatisfaction, and frustration all over that federal subject, with the city of Columbus and surrounding areas taking the brunt. We would like to express our support to the citizens of Columbus, who have had very difficult days due to the interruption of their routines, the destruction of their working means and others who have had their loved ones injured or have even lost them due to the rioting and the clashes on the streets. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you."

King Cyrus continued with the speech, after clearing his throat and putting on his reading glasses.

"While it is true that neither side has shown to be able to bring the other one to a peaceful understanding, on the part of the Valladar state we must recognize that we have been wrong in our handling of the situation, both before and during it. With this, we refer to the actions of the Speaker of the Royal Parliament, Stéphane Bertrand, prior to the approval of the Law of Secession, and to the comments of Prime Minister Jefferson Pratt in recent days on his visit to the city of Columbus. On the former, we must say that the handling of the legislative process in the Royal Parliament was poor and far from ideal, especially for his stratagem to artificially reduce the quorum of the joint session required to pass the aforementioned law by not recognizing 87 MPs who did not attend the session. That is an action that is not recorded in the Royal Constitution of 1910 and is therefore, illegal. Denying the existence of one or more rival factions for the sole purpose of paving the way for the passage of laws is undemocratic, and as sovereigns of this country and guarantors of the rights and will of the Valladar people we are NOT going to allow it. And those deputies who voted in favor of this horrifying motion will also go down in history as accomplices to a mean and unconstitutional act."

"As for the latter, with the incidents in Columbus having quickly spread everywhere in the Mountbatten state, and threatening to cause similar reactions in other cities in other states, it has become clear that the attempts of Prime Minister Pratt to calm the situation down have backfired. We consider that the words used in the speech were not the best, since they turned a speech that was expected to call for harmony, understanding and the search for a peaceful solution in a confrontational and accusatory tirade to all sectors involved. These actions are not worthy of a Head of Government, who is expected to help the people rather than showing teeth and taking up arms against it. We are pretty disappointed about this, and we cannot help but understand the widespread disappointment and frustration of the citizens as well."

Then King Marcus spoke once again, to announce the measures to be taken by the Monarchy.

"Considering this background, we fear that the Royal Government's legitimacy before its supreme judge, the people, has been seriously eroded, which requires the Crown to take strong and urgent measures in order to prevent the situation from reaching a point of no return and the unwanted consequences this might cause. Therefore, and after some thought and consultation with both the Supreme Court of Valladares and the Constitutional Court of Valladares, we have decided to invoke a special power that the State confers on the Crown, in order to open up a path to solve the crisis that our nation is going through and alleviate, to some degree, the suffering of our people."

"Based on the provisions of the Royal Constitution of 1910, we are therefore using the Sovereign Power invested on the Crown to relieve Prime Minister Jefferson Pratt as well as the current Royal Cabinet from their posts, with immediate effect. Furthermore, we are using the Sovereign Power to dissolve the Royal Parliament in its entirety, and request the Royal Attorney of Valladares to open an investigation on the procedures of the former Speaker of the Royal Parliament, Stéphane Bertrand, in the passing of the Law of Secession. The Valladar Crown will temporarily take over both the executive and legislative powers of the State, until the Electoral Council of Valladares decides on a date for new general elections, which must be held within a period not exceeding 30 days from this Royal Address. State governments and legislative bodies will not be affected by this decision."

King Cyrus then announced what would happen to the Law of Secession, and the process of formation of the new Angostura state, that was due to start.

"As for the Law of Secession and the provisions emanating from it, they will be put on hold while the Constitutional Court performs a thorough revision of the law. As a result, we will not be appointing a Royal Delegate for the Angostura state until said Court informs us about the legality of said law. In the meantime, all municipalities in eastern Mountbatten that were expected to become part of the new state will remain under the administration of the Mountbatten state. As for the status of the city of Columbus, it will be temporarily administered by the federal state, with a proposal for its definitive federalization to be discussed once a new Royal Parliament takes office."

"We hope these measures that we have announced, however difficult they may be, will allow us to get the country out of that black hole it has been heading towards during these days. Our intention is that the communities that have so far spoken in favor and against the decisions that were made take the path of dialogue, express their differences in a civil way, and commit to continue building, either together or separately, a much better country than the one our parents left us. Our historic mission as citizens, whether we speak Spanish, English, French, or Portuguese, is to receive what has been built and make it even better for those who come after us. Don't ever forget that. That said, thank you all for your attention, and have a good night."

The Royal Address was over, and by then Vakolicci Haven and Celeria had already equalized the match. But that was the least important thing by then. What mattered now was that the entire Royal Government and Parliament were done and gone. What would be coming next?

Cyberattack on Confederate Sports Blog possibly of Imperial Origin
Helda Mishri, Brantid Times

Popular sports blogger Salwan Mynhier's website was inaccessible to readers this evening, after a DDoS, or distributed denial of service attack overloaded the host servers and took them offline. The source and motivation of the attack are still unknown, but Mynhier himself speculated that it is likely related to his current article series examining the history of players for the Squornshelan national team whose origins are within what is today the Confederacy. "Image is everything to a country like that, they have to control the narrative," he told the Times in an exclusive interview. "There was that whole controversy about who can claim the title and results. It's not enough for them to be obsessed with the past, they have to own it too." Subverting Imperial claims to the joint history of our two nations was a driving force behind Mynhier's articles. "I wanted to show that, hey, we were there too. Those teams wouldn't have got far without us."

The Confederate Police Bureau Cybercrimes division did not speculate on the origin of the attack, citing a lack of evidence gathering at the present time. Spokesperson Aline Saer said that the division was actively investigating the attack, and would make their findings public when the investigation was complete. "At present," she explained, "it would be irresponsible for us to speculate as to who carried out this attack, and why, however tempting it might be." For Mynhier, the answer needed no investigation. "It's simple. Who has a motivation to take down my site? Some footballer I badmouthed? No offense, but I seriously doubt they're capable of something on this scale. No, the timing and the extent means it has to be the Imperium, trying to hit me back for challenging their propaganda."

These attacks, which are typically executed using linked networks of computers which have been infected with malware, have long been used by both government agencies and private individuals to target websites for a variety of reasons. Many readers will be familiar with the episode some ten years ago when a group of hackers used a prolonged DDoS attack to take down Megabrantid Financial's website, in an ultimately unsuccessful attempt to extort a ransom from the banking giant. This attack, the CPB shared, was of significantly greater magnitude. The data rate of this attack was, at times, in excess of 5 terabits per second, which, as Saer explained, "is an order of magnitude suggestive of an extremely large and well-coordinated attack." While the CPB is refusing to point any fingers as of yet, they did admit that it seems very unlikely that any private individual or group of individuals would be capable of such a large scale attack. "The most likely explanation in this case is a state-sized actor." In other words, a government entity.

Mynhier told the Times that he was in communication with his website's hosts, and that countermeasures to ward off such attack were being strengthened. He hopes to have his website back up in a matter of hours, and proclaimed his intention to continue his article series. "I'm not going to be intimidated or silenced. These stories are going to be told, because they need to be."

World Cup 85: Crucial Matchups Ahead

WORLD CUP 85: CRUCIAL MATCHUPS AHEAD
Written By: Richard Hanson (of the Elite Eleven) and Chuck Paul

Let's just cut to the chase. This has been a real hit-or-miss stretch. We could be right up against Kita-Hinode, only a win behind, clear from all the bloodbath occurring right below us in the group. And yet, that's not the situation. We're all on thin ice.

Hi. I'm Richard Hanson, member of the Elite Eleven, #2, and right midfielder for Drawkland's national team, the Kick Corps. The DNSN has asked me to guest write the qualifying summary articles for this campaign, for some reason. I wonder how much shit talk I can fit into this article before the editor/co-writer starts redacting it. Probably a lot, I don't think he gives a damn about his job. Fuck you Chuck, you smarmy motherfucker. Delete this, asswipe. If you remove this sentence you're a little baby bitch boy. That's right.

At this point I'm kinda procrastinating on writing the actual article. Mainly because I don't want to have to answer for this bullshit. We're incredibly lucky to not be under second right now, and that's all I can say for now.

@ KITA-HINODE
So we had to face the hardest match of the campaign. Kita-Hinode on the road. The Pot 1 team, a possible contender in the World Cup playoffs, and one that's been dominating the group so far. At this time they were undefeated. And, spoiler alert, they're still undefeated. Sure, they've taken a couple draws, but they're still ostensibly the de facto winners of the group. Without an incredible collapse on the horizon, they're qualifying, and it's up to us to hold the final spot.

This game didn't help our cause, though. The Poltergheists got off to a hot start, with Iori Saitou and Ikki Tokei scoring in the 20th and 38th minute, respectively. Their defensive prowess was on display, as they held us scoreless and nearly shotless in the entire first half. Fortunately, with a few strategy switches at halftime, we managed to start working around their defense and make some plays. They didn't pan out, sadly for us, besides a lone goal by Jaxon Madison in the 57th minute.

One goal away from pulling off a key draw on the road to the top team in the group, we had a choice to make. Either resign ourselves to stringent defense and hope we get an opportunity to tie the game up, or try to make the opportunity ourselves and risk leaving us exposed for another Kita-Hinode goal. We went for the latter, and the Hinodejin got the lucky break they needed to put the game away. In the 78th minute, Elias Keys got stuck on our side of midfield, surrounded by the Hinodejin defense, and nowhere to pass the ball. He tried to get it out, but it bounced off a midfielder and to the feet of Tomofumi Ishimoda. With no other Drawkian defenders in the area, the Hinode attack had a free run at the goal, and Septimus Xander couldn't defend the shot.

The game ended after a fruitless run near the Hinodejin box, and we had to go home with a 3-1 loss. At least the other teams in the group didn't gain too much ground ... but we really could've benefited from taking a few points off the group leader.

vs KOHNHEAD
This game, at the start of the cycle, was expected to be an easy rebound match after the hardest tilt of the campaign. Things hadn't turned out that way thus far, however. Kohnhead was expected to be a midtable team at best, and at worst, bottom-feeding with single digit points to their name. Neither of those were the case. The Baptism of Fire 72 participants have made a name for themselves in their first qualifying cycle. At this point, we were tied for second in the group, both with 20 points. With both Busoga Islands and Squornshelan Remnant States knocking at the door, neither of us had the luxury of being able to lose this game. Especially not us, playing at home with the advantage.

Things did not turn out well for The Brains, as they're called. As we had against Gyatso-Kai and Donnacona, we took care of business early. Ross Hunter scored a brace, with a goal in the 19th and 41st minute. They still played a decent defensive game, but as we had the 2-0 lead, we retreated to a purely defensive scheme to prevent losing the game after halftime. Jackson Newcastle, their goalkeeper, apparently had a shoddy game, and it showed. We had 3 shots on goal and two of them paid off (the other was only deflected and led to a corner).

Our defense was strong enough to keep Kohnhead's strikers from getting close to the goal. Erin Maltos had a couple opportunities, but blew them with bad passes or awful shots. Most of the Kohnhead media seemed to blame her the most for the loss, which isn't totally fair. After all, we were playing a solid game ourselves. We may have got the win to keep ourselves in second and send Kohnhead to 5th, but we have to be ready for the second half match against them. Being the second-to-last matchday, it could be a final make-or-break game to save our campaign.

@ EGM
EGM was expected to be an easy win. After all, they had no official roster submitted, and no possible way for us to discern their style of play. At this point in the campaign, though, we had a different mindset. After all, this is what we expected in our home match against Jantor, and yet we walked out of the stadium with only 1 point thanks to our own hubris. This game on the road against EGM had to be different.

And different it was. We had started becoming used to the 2-0 wins, the formula of scoring early then defensively holding the second half to get out with an easy win. Thankfully, we managed to play to that strategy again. I scored early to start it off in the 8th minute, while Dominic Southers got a header from a Madison corner shot in the 22nd.

At this point, EGM began to wise up to our scheme, and patched their defense enough to keep us from scoring again before the half. Our defense tightened up in the second half though, and it was enough to keep EGM's mediocre offense out of the goal.

@ LOCHARIO
While our 2-0 quick win formula was starting to do wonders for us, it was only a matter of time until it caught up to us. It turned out that our away match with Lochario would be the beginning of the end for this strategy.

See, Lochario's manager, Michael Sallindy, had been watching the Drawkian gameplan from the last few games. He knew that their team would have to be aggressive to prevent us from scoring first and holding to a lead. It would not be a defensive chess match that afternoon in Zun Olympic Stadium.

Ghitten scored first, following a surprisingly direct attack on our defense. It was the 10th minute, and we already had to play from behind. Thankfully, we followed it up with a goal in the 31st from the foot of Roger Apollo. I'll be honest, our defense was playing shoddy, and Septimus especially was having a hard time for some reason. Iouta scored just before halftime, putting Lochario up 2-1.

Lochario started the second half strong too, but we managed ward them off and keep it close. Our counterattack was strong and eventually Ross Hunter scored in the 66th minute. The match was tied at 2-2, but were we going to settle with a draw? Of course not. We kept our foot on the gas and tried to break the tie. Still, Lochario held strong. We had several clear shots thanks to missteps by their center back Payud. Yet, none of them got through.

Things took a turn for the worse in the 85th minute, with time running dry. An errant pass by Trevor Garnet was fought for and won by Ghittin, who quickly flicked it to Quides. Quides took the ball on the fast break, virtually 1-on-1 with Septimus in the goal ... and he won. With the minutes waning and all-too-short, we couldn't make the comeback. Lochario outplayed us, and we went home with a 3-2 loss.

vs TORISAKIA
Some Torisakians believe that they got cheated out of a win on matchday 2 of qualifiers. An "unfair" red card kept them a man down at the end of the game when we broke the tie and came away with a win. I'm not gonna say this was a grudge or revenge match, but getting ridiculed as scummy players, as well as being frustrated from dropping 3 points to Lochario, AND having our first home game for a few matchdays, all came together as a perfect storm.

It started to turn out like one of our classic 2-0 wins, but with a hitch. Things went to plan when I and Ross Hunter scored in the 24th and 29th minutes, some rapid fire action to get us up 2-0 quickly. The home crowd was loving it, and it clearly aggravated the Torisakia Squad. It did light a fire under them, and Johnny Kelso scored right before halftime.

With a 2-1 scoreline, we decided during the halftime break to go balls out. Torisakia disrespects us and expects to get away with it? Fuck them! We're gonna go right for the throat ... And we did.

We scored in the 58th thanks to Roger Apollo. From here, we wanted to get a little poetic justice for our man Trevor Garnet. So, we switched Jaxon Madison with Trevor. Yeah, it was swapping positions between a forward and a defender, but you have to remember we're all pretty good at most positions, we just play what position we personally prefer. With our lineup shuffle, it threw off our rhythm for a bit, and we were only able to keep Torisakia off the board. Finally, though, we pulled off a play to get Trevor the ball with a decent shot, and he pulled it off.

That was in the 80th minute, and from then on it was a lighthearted cruise to the final whistle with the elated home crowd. It's hard to believe, but this 4-1 win was actually the highest number of goals we scored in this campaign so far. Hopefully we can keep that pace up, but we've just not been able to get the offense going in these games.

@ BALASLANDIA
Onward we march, this time to take on Balaslandia on the road. At home, we beat them 3-0, which is unfortunately our cleanest win to date. Despite playing on the road, we still had a decent outing. We once again had a 3-goal affair on offense, with Mike Rodney scoring twice, in the 23rd and 74th minute. Ross Hunter also had a goal from a header in the 40th, and Balaslandia had a goal for pride in the 82nd minute from the foot of Anderson Passi.

There's not much more to say about that. We got out with a 3-1 win and stayed ahead in the race for Group 2's qualification race. This is where the campaign gets hard, though. Crunch time.

vs WRECKERIA
Then came time for our match against Wreckeria, the home tilt. We came into this match with decent expectations, but

You know what? I don't want to talk about this game. Fuck this. The worst game we've played in years, no doubt. 4 conceded, and we could only manage 3 at home? I don't know what Wreckeria did. The entire match felt like a haze. I'm actually disgusted. I almost walked off the pitch at halftime. Don't even get me started on the yellow cards! The match as a whole was entirely incomprehensible. All this, and now we're back to barely being ahead of our competitors in the group. If I had bought the home ticket package for qualifiers I'd be looking to refund the remaining games. It was just a disgusting lack of sportsmanship and athleticism. The officiating was bad, I got screwed out of a goal like 3 times, it's just, just ....... I'm out of words. [EDITORS NOTE: get someone else to write this section DO NOT PUBLISH THIS]

UPCOMING MATCHES
So with the loss to Wreckeria, we've somehow started a troubling new trend. Starting after the shock draw to Jantor, we've played Win-Win-Loss, Win-Win-Loss, Win-Win-Loss. What if this trend continued? It wouldn't be ideal, but with 8 games remaining, we'd go 6-0-2. Sure, those 2 losses would open the door for all the nations biting at our heels in the group, but one of those losses would be to Kita-Hinode, and then Jantor. Still, it would mean a win over Busoga, the SRS, and Kohnhead, all six-point wins that could prove to be crucial.

Of course, this is all a pipe dream. If we can manage to beat Busoga and the SRS, it'll give us a little bit of breathing room, but there's so much time remaining. It'll be hard to know exactly how we'll be doing. We've looked both solid and fallen flat on our face. We've been anything from consistent. Unfortunately, it is still anyone's group. Well, anyone's second place in the group. There's no way Kita-Hinode is falling out at this point.

All we can hope is to quit losing games to the little guys. We must perform. We must win. We must qualify. We must be Drawkland. You know how it is. On Corps.

Double Bill

A SENSE OF DE JA VU
Audioslavia 1-0 New Lusitania
@Arena Kirola, Cathair (Att: 76 854)

New Lusitania travelled to cosmopolitan Cathair for their next match against a strong Audioslavian side. Back in the second Matchday, the game had been narrowly fought at the Jamor with the Bulls taking a 1-0 victory over the Selecção. Today was also an extremely important day for the table as a win for New Lusitania could bring them one step closer to qualification but the reverse could be the beginning of the end. The changes on the Lusitanian side were the customary ones on the left hand side, bringing back Guerreiros and Horta. Audioslavia would play their usual first team, with no changes made to their unconventional "ultramodern" tactic. As things got underway in Cathair, the crowds cheered. The first half was very good to watch, constant chances and a lot of end to end football. Despite a great chance by Paciência, the fact that Audioslavia scored by the half-hour of play was extremely problematic. Marañón would be the goalscorer having swerved the ball expertly into the Patríce's net. 1-0 to the erupting crowds and home team.
This now posed a major problem, a team like Audioslavia is extremely defensive and knowing full well what the Lusitanian style of play is from their first game, it's no surprise that the team played defensively for a good portion of the game, something which left neutrals and away fans unhappy. Following halftime, it was all pretty much the same. Victor Santa Cruz had taken the opportunity of the break to do some motivation. Another interesting choice was his later decision to deploy yet another striker - Cavalariça - into play for the cost of Nevais putting the team in 3-3-1-3 (3-4-3). It did seem to have its rewards as defence had more trouble covering all the attacking minded players. On seventy nine minutes, Cavalariça actually put the goal in the net, but was later reviewed offside after the referee congregated with the linesman. A controversial choice, to which there was no clear angle as Cancela got awarded a third yellow this cycle. In the end, the result stayed the way it was for the majority of the game - the Audioslavian gamble had paid off and it had worked well enough to pull the three points. FULL TIME: 1-0

Around The Grounds
A historic moment as Astograth stole Turori's first points drop since the start of the campaign with a 1-1 draw, with the Eels top regardless of the result due to a big gap to second. Sajnur's defeat to Natanians & Nosts (0-1) meant that Audioslavia are now undisputed second as the victors are behind New Lusitania on goal difference. Jeckland's bye saw Villablanca creep two points behind them following a win at Porticalia (1-3) with Muradil and TJUN-ia summing up some more points following wins to Necosia and EOT, respectively (2-1, 1-4). In the next match, New Lusitania will have their first ever competitive match far away in São Jorge do Mar against EOT which despite their current position, have seen to be on some sort of form recently playing more closely to their previously seen capacity making it an important game, despite no major ties at the top.
