BP, do you think that the day before the races are scorinated that you could post the entries for the races? This would really help the ability to roleplay, for me. You could even have a post draw and odds which wouldn't really matter for any other reason then to provide RP material.

Well, what have we learned from Day 1?

I screwed up the last race, because I didn't double check, and NWK's horse got entered twice, and Rocket's Red Glare got left out. I will fix the result to make it that RRG was scratched, but I will still award the prize money, plus I had the wrong jockey on Elite.

11 races had 10 different winners, and only a single horse out of 37 failed to earn any money at all.

Sarz, I will fix the trigramme. The way I had it doesn't even make sense...
Newm, I'll definitely put out a better heads up ahead of the next round, and make more info available ahead of time.

Anyone else having suggestions, comments about the first day, I'm all ears. I'll clarify a few housekeeping details in the Everything thread when I post the Trainer & Jockey standings.

And I owe Kohnhead an apology, b/c I completely overlooked their entry, so I will get them entered for the next races.

Thing I only realised now I don't get it: What exactly are the "heats"? (also a furlong is roughly 200m, right? but I can google that^^)
MT socialist (mostly) island state - Cultural mixture of Scandinavia, Finland and Russia -Exports iron, steel, silver and wood - Low fantasy in terms of animal species - Sports-loving - 22.8 million inhabitants.

The adjective is Savojar; Savojarnan is not a word!
I am a student of (European) politics, ice hockey fan, left-wing communist bordering on anarchy, and European federalist. Enjoy!

Basically, I didn't know how many entries we'd have so I didn't plan on 11 races of different lengths. "heats" was just the shorthand I used to make clear that there would be multiple races at that length and on that surface.
Yes, a furlong is 220 yards, 1/8 of a mile. 6 furlonogs is 3/4 of a mile or about 1200m.

Week Two post-mortem:

Overall, I'm happy with the results (I hope everyone else is also!) and how the various adjustments to the skill ratings have helped narrow some of the gaps between the top and bottom entries.

But I underestimated how much real time it takes to get everything prepped, not to mention how to handle changing circumstances--once a horse has broken its maiden, I have to move it out of that group, having to switch jockeys in those instances, etc.--so for the next round, we're going to change things up a bit.
The 'Big' race will be the first one, based on the previous round's results, then we'll work backwards with up & comers, horses in the money but haven't faced better competition, etc.
That way I can lock in the field for each event, and we can cut the total number of races per day down to 4 or 5.

So a couple of items, and I'll admit I've not thought this out in depth, so it is open to contribution.
--At the conclusion of the 2yo season, the 15 lowest ranked horses will be considered to be out of the running for the TC eligibility. We'll continue to have races for them, because there will be a larger pool of 3yo's to select from.
--Every entry will have the right to nominate 2 additional horses--another 3yo and a 4yo. The total max skill level of the stables will rise (I've not figured that out yet but it will probably be about a standardized 10 pts, plus a bonus for the top 4? overall finishers in the trainer standings), and then something, something...we'll come back to this.

Example, using my own entry:

Count Floyd 7.5
Mr Reese 8
Young Gray Mare 7.5

I may decide that Mr Reese ain't gonna cut it, so I can send him to the glue factory and earn back 75% of his original entry skill (which was 8, so I get 6 back) and enter two new horses with initial skill levels that will figure in with the end totals of my remainers. Or I could keep him, add another 2 horses with lower initial skill levels.

Obviously, there's a lot of thought process that needs to go into this. I'm riffing off the top of my head, and I keep coming up with new problems.
