I believe I have smoothed out some of the nagging details, and I think as not to get lost ahead of WCQ and some other things on the horizon, we'll try and get this going for a live fire drill.

Each nation will be allowed up to 3 entries, with a total of 3 horses per entry or a single entry with 4 horses. We will be starting out ICly as though it is the late summer/early fall, so for the moment, only 2 Year Old colts and fillies should be entered. (I promise we'll get to having more horses per entry quickly).

These will be "stables" or trainers who will compete against other horses of their own age group, but will be considered as a team for the purposes of tracking points, which will allow more successful trainers to enter more horses at various times through the season.
Each entry should also nominate a minimum of one jockey for their barn, who can ride any or all of the horses, or the barn can choose a jockey from the common pool of listed jockeys. There will also be score kept for submitted riders, which will boost their skill level, but common jockeys will be considered neutral and will remain relatively unchanged.

Every horse entered should be listed with a skill level between 5-15, however the total of multi horse entries shall not exceed 29, including any jockeys, who should have a skill range between 1-6.
The opening max skill will be 20, and there will be handicaps assigned to horses depending on age, sex, past performance; these handicaps will work in an inverse fashion (i.e., a 2yo filly will get an added skill bonus handicap running in a field with both colts and fillies, a 3yo will get a handicap when running against 4yo's+, a non-winner would get a handicap running in field where some horses have broken their maiden, etc.) Handicaps for a particular race will not carry over. Hence they are not a permanent addition to your horse's skill.
And of course this will be figured in with RP bonus, which will be graded on a scale similar to the range of handicaps (between 0.5-2.0 per MD) and RP bonus would apply to all horses a nation enters.

Here's a breakdown of how this all plays out in an example entry, which is my own:

Orange Cow Syndicate (J.D. Squane, trainer)
Count Floyd 2yo colt 7.5
Mister Reese 2yo colt 8
Old Gray Mare 2yo filly 7.5
Fernando Llama, jockey 6 (although, truth be told, Llama is a pool jockey, so his skill wouldn't be anything close to this!)

For each race, there will be points assigned to each horse finishing the race as follows:

Grade I races will have a point value of 10/7/5/3/2/1 for the top six finishers
Grade II & III races will have a point value of 5/3.5/2.5/1.5 for the top four
Ungraded/Listed races including allowance, maiden and conditions races, will have a point value of 2.5/1.7/1.2/0.7

Every horse finishing in points positions will get a skill boost of 10% of the points earned, so the winner of a Grade I race would get a 1.0 boost.

At the end of a particular segment of the season (5-8 RP days), the leading horses and jockeys will see a samll additional boost in their skill level heading into the following segment.
All horses will carryover the ending skill level to the next segment, which will be a template for what level of races that horse can enter. But a horse in the lower 1/3 of the standings, for example, could still do well enough to move to a higher classification as the season continues.

Races will take place at nominated tracks, which any participant can submit up to 4 in their own nation (to begin with). You can choose to set the conditions of the races held there, and the other pertinent info (metric distance vs Imperial, clockwise vs anti, straight or single turn, etc.

The Triple Crown of the Commonwealth of Baker Park will be the highlight of the 3yo season. ICly the races will take place over 8-9 wks in June & July (1st wkend in June, last wkend in June, 4th wkend in July), and are as follows:

Commonwealth of Baker Park Derby (or just the Commonwealth Derby, as there is also a 'Baker Park Derby')
The Victoria Plate
Prince Regent's Stakes

There will also be a Distaff Triple Tiara, open to 3yo fillies, which will be at bit earlier than the TC, so as to give an opportunity for trainers to switch their emphasis if choose to. Schedule to be announced shortly.

For horses not ending up being eligible to enter the TC or TT races, there will be a whole schedule of other races that will be run for a chance earn money, prestige and points towards the end of year final standings.

The Xkorinate auto racing program will be used to conduct the events, both the qualifying and race options will be utilized. There will be standardized ranges for min/max times and variance that will be made available.
In the results of each race, there will be the winning horse's elapsed time, then the other finishers will be classified by how many lengths behind the winner they cross the line, which will determined on the basis of 1 full length being equal to 0.25 seconds.
Example: Horse A wins the race in 1:33.455, while the second placed horse runs in 1:33.459. 'A' will be classified as winning by a nose (this will generally be considered a photo finish). If the time difference is more than .005 but less than .01, that will be a win by a neck, while a difference between .01 and 0.125 will be called a head. The difference between 0.125 and 0.25 will classified as 1/2 (one half) length.
These specs will also be made available for all to consult.

Sheesh...I think I've covered it all. You can begin to submit entries, nominate tracks/races and ask for clarification here. An optimistic start date would be 10-12 days from now...May 15/17?

Apologies if this is the wrong thread to ask questions, but: Can you, or someone else, quickly give me a link to a rundown of what this season structure is based on (presumably US racing?) as I am not sure about how things like the Triple Crown are gonna work? I'm somewhat familiar with horse racing, but only with the local Swiss context, which seems to be a bit different than what you describe, and also just does less of the "prestigious things" in general (probably because nothing Switzerland does ends up very prestigious). Would individual countries for example still have their edition of the five big races, or is that replaced by the Triple Crown? Do races for older-than-three-year-olds exist and are not (yet) scored, or is that separate too?

The slew of questions is by the way in no way a criticism, but I am trying to understand this all for RP purposes

This is based on the North American model of thoroughbred racing, although the setup of the season is fairly widespread. Yes there will be other age groups brought in once we get past this opening 'pre-season'. Other nations are absolutely welcome to have their own set of TC races or Group/Grade I events.

Wow, I didn't have enough info to answer your question appropriately, but I've just read up on horse racing in Switzerland, and it's certainly different.

In a nutshell, horses climb the competition ladder from the later half of the year they turn 2. They run against other horses of the same age, usually--but not always--at distances of less than a mile. At the beginning of the calendar year, they become 3 year olds and go through another series of races trying to earn the right to be eligible for the Triple Crown--here in America, the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes--which is based on how much money the horse earned, how many races has it finished in the top, etc.

Like I said earlier, we will get a broader selection of races for older horses once we get through this initial set up period. Feel free to ask questions here or you TG me and I'll do what I can to help.

Update:

I've got a basic idea of how the first few RP days of the season will break down, and it looks like this (subject to negotiation with other track promoters):

Race Day 1
--maidens, 5 furlongs on turf (no turns) @ White River Racecourse, Endborough
--maidens, 6 furlongs on dirt @ Tundra Falls Proving Ground, Newmanistan
--maidens, 5.5 furlongs on dirt @ Stafford City Raceway
--allowance, 6.5 furlongs on turf @ White River

RD 2
--maidens, 5.5f, turf @ New Bloomfield Park, Ezriquay
--allowance, 6.5f, dirt @ Woodstock Downs, Sarzonia
--maidens, 7f, dirt @ New Bloomfield Park
--Michaelmas Futurity [Grade III], 6.5f, dirt @ Northwestern Pike Racecourse, Belle Haven

RD 3
--allowance, colts only, 7f, dirt @ Fairport Park
--allowance, fillies only, 7f, dirt @ The Emperor's Raceway, Newmanistan
--conditions, 7.5f, dirt @ Fairport Park
--Kabaka Albert III Trophy [Grade III], 1 mile, dirt @ Northwestern Pike

RD 4
--allowance, 7f, turf @ The Old Course, Southend
--Gold Coast Gold Cup [Listed], 1 mile, dirt @ Gold Coast, NW Kalactin
--Jones Cup [Listed]. colts only, 1 mile, dirt @ Stillwater Downs, Oceana
--Cassadaigua Juvenile Stakes, fillies only [Grade III], 1 mile, dirt @ Concord Heights Downs

RD 5
--allowance, 7f, dirt @ The Portland Pimlico, Sarzonia
--City of Newport Stakes [Listed], 1 mile, turf @ The Old Course
--Five Star Mobile Derby [Grade III], 1 mile, dirt @ Brattleboro Sports Complex
--JCBP Juvenile Cup [Grade II], 1 1/16 mile, dirt @ The Old Course

Of course some of this is subject to how many entries we get, as you can probably discern, the first couple of MD's are for establishing a baseline.

I'm still in the process of refining the handicap system, but in a nutshell it will generally follow the idea that:

--fillies & mares get an allowance against colts
--younger horses get an allowance against older ones
--non-winners get an allowance against winners

there will probably NOT be any races where there are multiple stipulations about what "weight" a horse will carry outside of the general guidelines above. SOME handicap allowances will be contingent on RP participation.

OK, more updates as we move along. Thanks to all who have signed up so far.

EDIT 5/11--Although the schedule is filled, I'm not opposed to replacing one of my own tracks for someone else wishing to participate.

Update

the RP/Results thread is up. We are Going Live! Live and Alive baby!

But, here are few final things I've worked on while I did the set up earlier:
1) Jockeys: if you have a nominated jockey, they will be allowed to compete in both 'heats' riding one of your horses. For 3 horse stables, that means one of your entries will get a pool jockey. It won't matter which one of the 25 you end up with at random, because they all have the same skill rating (1.67). I will always look to put your jockey on the highest/higher rated horse, if you have 2 in the half of a particular race. YOU can stipulate that your jockey ride a certain horse if it is not the highest rated one of your entries.
2) Cass, your total entry was 30, so I docked Apple Toss a point. If you'd rather I change one of the others instead, let me know.
3) EQS, are you wanting to be entered in all the early races? I know you said thought you'd only enter a few...
4) RP bonus will be between 0.5-2.0 Also, field limits--For the top level, Grade I races, there will be a max of 14 starters, for Gr II & III it will 16, and for Listed it will be 20. These will be determined by points, with tie breakers used--earnings, trainer points and money finishes.

Let me know if there is something I haven't covered--purses for each race will have minimums:
Maidens--20K
Allowances--35K
Listed--80K
Gr III--100K
Gr II--200K
Gr 1--350K

Good Luck!

I kept forgetting about that/read too many wikipedia articles about the differences of a US calendar and the various European ones (and I definitely got way too carried away there), but I actually managed a signup! I wasn't sure how race signups exactly work, so I just signed up tracks with info about the most important races in terms of domestic racing - I'm happy to have those races contested in this series, or also not. Feel free to TG me or @ me on Discord about it, or about anything else weird, unclear, or not fitting the way you envisioned this.

National Racing Stables of Savojarna
Trainer: Andrei Stoikov
Jónsson, 2yo, colt, 11
Tolyanka, 2yo, filly, 9
General Marov, 2yo, colt, 5
Jelena Atrajeva, jockey, 4

Race tracks
Artjakhin National Stable Grounds
Track length: 2'100 m clockwise / 1'000 m straight course / 3'900 m cross-country
Surface: grass
Notable races: Savojar Derby, Price of the Communist Party (equivalent to the Oaks), All-Savojarna Cross-Country Championship

St. Andrei Racecourse
Track length: 1'610 m/1 English Mile clockwise
Surface: grass
Notable races: 1'000 and 2'000 Guineas of Savojarna

Birja National Race Course
Track lengths: 1'600 m clockwise (small track) / 2'450 m clockwise (large track) / 1'000 m straight course / 3'800 m cross-country
Surface: grass
Notable races: Grand Prix Carl Gustaf Bjurman, Price of Vestrholm (equivalent to St. Leger)

Poljansk Racecourse
Track lengths: 1'200 m anti-clockwise
Surface: grass
Notable races: Youth Stakes
MT socialist (mostly) island state - Cultural mixture of Scandinavia, Finland and Russia -Exports iron, steel, silver and wood - Low fantasy in terms of animal species - Sports-loving - 22.8 million inhabitants.

The adjective is Savojar; Savojarnan is not a word!
I am a student of (European) politics, ice hockey fan, left-wing communist bordering on anarchy, and European federalist. Enjoy!
