With another set of regional competitions over (sans Esportiva) and another world cup cycle looming ahead, national and subnational football squads from across the multiverse are strapping their cleats on once again in preparation to challenge some of the greatest names in NS Sports history just to taste the most euphoric form of sweet, sweet victory. However, outside a few friendlies here or there and their much more financially feasible domestic league careers, players of these nation-wide teams lack the true preparation they require to sustain themselves for the road ahead.
Enter the Wonder Cup, an unofficial precursor tournament to the World Cup qualifiers like the good ol' Market Cup, but much smaller in size and significance! In every edition of the showcase (with each having its own respective theme), 16 teams ranging anywhere from decorated football all-stars to rocks with jerseys will compete in an epic, ever-changing showdown! With the last tournament displaying a double group stage format, this Wonder Cup will be reeling it back a little, settling with a nice little DOUBLE ELIMINATION BRACKET! 4 groups of 4 will play among their divisions for a single round robin before proceeding to the next phase. Those finishing in the top 2 will advance to the double elimination Sun Bracket, where the best of the best duke it out for the title of Champion! Meanwhile those sitting in rock bottom will advance to the less interesting Moon Bracket, whose grand prize is, I don't know, 9th Place overall? That's something, right?
For the second edition of this tournament, the theme will be returning to space, but with more emphasis on cosmic events, like supernovas, meteor showers, and planetary collisions! To better process this (and have less work for me), the Principality of Qasden will be shedding their co-hosting responsibilities with those dirty mutt-lovers in Caverns and host this edition alone. To sign up, simply state your intention to participate below. Puppets are limited to 1 a user, but will be the first to be replaced, should more main nations enter. Sign-ups will go for approximately 2 weeks (ending May 8th) or if the max of 16 entrants is achieved beforehand.
Scoring will be done through xkoranate with the NSFS formula applied. RP bonuses will be cumulative throughout the tournament, with a grading scale that is generous, though not overwhelming (Rosters do help in terms of advantages, however). While the tournament is usually held prior to the qualifiers, the Wonder Cup itself is not part of the official World Cup Cycle, thus making things like KPB irrelevant in this event. Group draws will be done without pots, meaning those who've had more experience in NS Sports will not be rudely prohibited from fighting each other immediately in the group stage. Should a tie be made an example of to the others, it will be done via: H2H, GD, Goals for, and/or (if still somehow needed) a coin flip.
