LISANDER SUSPENDED FROM IMPERAN LEAGUE!

Due to reaching six months of political crisis, Lisander received an indefinite suspension from the Imperan League Council. Since last October, the nation is under "Sovereign Rule", that is to say, the Crown took off the power to deal with the lack of a prime minister, that was not elected by the parliament in able time after the last General Elections.

When the matter was near solved, last February, a new menace has shown itself to the world. The outbreak of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome caused by Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) put the nation in the state of emergency. In fact, Lisander was reasonably prepared for this pandemics, due to its public health system, ranked between the best 11% of the world. But yet this was a serious blow in the nation. His Highness Decreed the closing of the Parliament, interrupted the discussions for new elections and put the state in theoretical absolutism.

Considering the months of governmental instability and alarmed by the shutdown of the Parliament, the Council of Imperan League voted in favour of suspending Lisander, "in order to avoid further problems of political order". "It's unthinkable and quite sad that the mentor nation of this alliance is suffering from a problem like that. It's our desire that Lisander may overcome this problem as soon as possible" stated Letizia Saras, President of the Aristian Republic.

Their Sovereign Highnesses, Johannes and Armine of Lisander, released an official statement, in which they lamented the choice of the Council, but stated they're reassured by the constant work by the crown to relief the nation in this difficult moment, as well as with the political agreements dealt even without an active parliament. "We're thankfully to all sides of the political spectrum who understood the need of patience in this crucial moment for each human being, and are able to deal with the affairs of the nation from the safety of its homes."

In practical terms, being suspended from the Imperan League includes also being suspended from Imperan Olympic Association and all of its member organizations. So no international sports for some time in the near future. The relevant exception is the Lisander & Alice Bay Cricket Board, since there's no Imperan Cricket Organization.

Or at least it was what we thought. In an agile movement, Lisander's CND (Confederação Nacional de Desportos) approached one of the Big Three Sporting Associations, the region of Esportiva, to join into its rosters. As the Imperan Suspension lasts one year until the next Council Meeting, all competitions are cancelled. It will be quite a time.

OOC reason: That's because now I have a job and college stuff is being kind of pushy. BTW, with social isolation I may be able to deal with some of the stuff, but not with all of the stuff. So I decided to put Imperan League on indefinite hold. Bye Alice Bay Rugby, Bye Rhaecia Hockey, Bye Aristian Republic Basketball. And because of that, I'll come up with a new sportswire. So, let me present this nation again.

The Principality of Lisander is a nation located in the region of Esportiva, and is the home of 11 million people, from various Latin descent, especially Portuguese and French. Lisander National Sport is Rugby Union, and its national Rugby Union Team, the Irises, are between the most powerful teams in the world, but yet waits for its oportunity to win a World Cup of the sport. Association Football is also popular, as well as Field Hockey (a sport exclusively for women) and Basketball. In Lisander, heavy contact sports are separated by gender, for health, safety, privacy and intimacy reasons. Exceptions are Tennis Doubles, Sailing, Equestrian Sports, Motorsports and Fencing.

The southern half of the nation is more populous, industrialized and connected. Soria, the capital and biggest city of the nation, form a larger metropolitan area with Sirenia and Kasandora (respectively third and fourth most populated cities). Despina, the second city in population, is in the southwest. These cities have a long history of multi-sports clubs. Soria is famous for the "big four". Four elite sports clubs founded in the late 1800s to provide sport for upper-middle-class families: Victorian Club, St. Helens Club, Club d'Escrime and Linville Athletic Club (the last one currently seated in Linville, another city of the Metropolis. Sirenia is famous for the complete opposite: Club Sparta, the most decorated club in the nation, with teams participating in most of team sports competition, was founded as a recreative club for the workers of a local textile company. In Despina, there are two multisport clubs: Association Sportive Virtus and Clube Atlético Oeste. The first founded by students and the second founded by factory workers. Kasandora wasn't that big in early 1900, so it had to wait until 1927 to have its most important club founded. The Atlético Clube de Kasandora still have much more modest history and trophy case, but in the last twenty-five years, while the city reached the maximum of its development, it turned into the pride of the locals. All of these clubs are represented in at least one of the major four sports, with Soria "rich" clubs preferring Rugby and Field Hockey, while the rest of the cities prefer Basketball and Football.

The Midnorth Shield, as it's called the agricultural part of the nation, adopted Rugby Union timidly, but the most important sport in the region is basketball, since it's indoors and not waste arable land. Cities like Lerna, Oris and Casterwill are references in basketball. The strength of Basketball in this region is proven by results. Despite having most of the teams in Basketball SuperLiga, southern Lisander NEVER won the tournament. And there's also the North, where it's always cold. Football is quite popular due to its global appeal, and Basketball is slowly reaching but the local sports are Ice Hockey and Sledge Sports (Lisander usually don't care for the Olympics, but we have an improbable Golden Medal in Skeleton, won by Northern Lisanderian Petronilla Martin). Beaumont, Salinas, Grandeville and Sunion are local sports centres.

Rugby Union is the national sport of Lisander. Even if it's not the bigger in the number of interested and financial intake, Domestic Rugby Union gave Lisander its best international results, with local team Saracens being one-time Rugby Union Champions Trophy champions (around the same time, Association Football teams was hardly able to reach group stage of UICA/IFCF competitions).

Rugby Union in Lisander appeared firstly in late 1800s, brought by students returning from other rugby centres, and turned popular initially between the upper/middle-class youth. The most traditional clubs of the nation, Linville Athletic,Victorian, St. Helens and Club d'Escrime are the pillars of Soria and Azhaar Rugby Union (URSA, the acronym in Portuguese), one of the most known rugby entities in the known world. Until the rise of professional rugby, URSA teams reigned unmatched in Lisanderian Rugby.

With the start of the Pro10 (that later evolved to Pro12, and latest to TOP12), new teams appeared, like Saracens, from Despina, the second largest city of the nation, that was mostly known by Football. There are officially two professional tiers of Rugby in Lisander, that superseded the Regional Unions Championships. Yet, with the amateurism just behind the corner, the second level is still struggling to make ends meet. The second division, the LRU Championship, doesn't have relegation, but the unstable situation of some teams outside Soria was already noted, and the LRU started plans to absorb the former "National Championship", divided between Torneio da URSA e Torneio Nacional, making both tournaments the first division of Community Rugby.

Football, that is, Association Football, is the most played sport of Lisander. Its origins are not that different from the origins of rugby. Students who were abroad brought the first balls and started playing in the clubs. But Rugby was a sport for the elite, and the first years of the last century were not an era of social equity. While the rich enjoyed the idleness of rugby in clubs, the poor were not in the same condition. A rugby ball, oblong, was a reasonably expensive object, while a football were cheaper and even if one doesn't had money, it could be made of socks, rags, anything. And that influenced the local population. In thirty years the country already had a fully professional national league. Over the years, more or fewer teams took part in the national championship until the current format emerged seven seasons ago.

The Premiership (Tristarbank Premiership for sponsorship reasons) came about when the country was recovering from the last great economic crisis it suffered when only a few teams were able to sustain themselves financially. In the first season there were only 10 clubs, but currently (Tristarbank Premiership 7) there are 16 clubs and next season there will be 18. The Premiership is the national feeder for the Champions League, but due to isolationist policies of the previous Lisanderian Football Federation, its international reach was limited in the beginning. More recently, after much insistence and complaint from fans, the FLF began to open up to the world little by little, and because of that Lisander's domestic football still occupies a very modest position among the world's leagues.

Feeding the Premiership, Liga Nacional (National League) is starting to reap the profits of the partnership with the "big sister" and is in its own expansion at the moment, opening its doors to newly created teams or even old teams becoming professional again. The Liga Nacional is currently composed of two divisions, making itself the levels 2 and 3 of the pyramid.

Below these three "independent" tiers, there is the Divisão de Honra (Honor Division of the Amateur League) in level four, currently composed by amateur and semi-pro teams. This is the first of two divisions controlled directly by Lisanderian Football Federation (FLF). Only teams who played Divisão de Honra in the previous season can apply for a Professional License. The fifth tier of Domestic Football is composed of the Regional Leagues. There are four leagues for Northern, Eastern, Western and Southern Lisander. These leagues are the lowest tier controlled by FLF and organized football, and the participation is open to any club who can sign a team of at least 18 players aged 15 or more. There are some B clubs on this level, but most of the Youth Teams already moved to the Youth Football System.

Basketball is a professional sport that has a quite large fanbase and turned one of Lisander most loved sports since the nation hosted some important events, like the IUBC 14 Finals and the 28th edition of International Basketball Championships. Currently, Lisander is somewhere around the World Top 10 in the sport, yet a little behind powerhouses like Vangaziland, Free Republics and Drawkland. It's the principal sport in the Midnorth but also pleases the southern lisanderian people.

Basketball appeared in Lisander firstly around the late 1920s and was adopted by cities in the midnorth since it could be played indoors, thus avoiding the need to turn a piece of arable land (which would have been missed, after all, it was a time of economic crisis) into a sports field. It was kept amateur or semi-pro at its best for a long time until the start of SuperLiga, an initiative that began with the National Federation and gradually passed into the hands of the clubs. Season 7 will be the first in which SuperLiga will be completely under the control of the sixteen franchises. From this moment on, Lisander Basketball Federation will control the new National Basketball League (NBL), a second-tier competition, but since there's no promotion-relegation system planned, then if teams of NBL ever desire to join the top division, they will have to apply for a spot.

College Basketball is also popular in Lisander, with strongest programs in NSCAA being effectively the first tier of College Basketball. The remnant teams play in the tournament of Liga Acadêmica Nacional, the Elite 12.

During the last century, sports in Lisander were social facts. In a way, niche fun. There was a specific audience for each sport. For the residents of Soria who could afford to join one of the traditional clubs (The Victorian Club, Linville Athletic Club, St. Helen's Club, Club d'Escrime and Elysium Club), the most interesting sports were Rugby for boys and Field Hockey for the girls. Thus, Field Hockey evolved in Lisander as an exclusively female sport, and its league is one of the powerhouses of the sport.

The Metropolitan Hockey Championship (in portuguese Metropolitano de Hóquei), currently addressed Hellebank League by sponsorship reasons, is the main tournament of Field Hockey in Lisander. It's a Semi-Pro league, completely managed by MetroLeague SAD, a private company in which the shareholders are the clubs themselves. The official statement says it's a league made from, by and for women, that usually had restricted time and television audience in team sports. There's also an amateur system in Soria, where second and third teams usually play.

Motorsports in Lisander is turning into, as in most of the world, a hobby for rich people. Though there are still good categories with open invitation events where people can go and drive racing prepared cars, especially after the moderate success of Lisanderian endeavours in the world stage, the most prestigious categories like the WGPO-sanctioned WGP3 (that currently costs half-million Lis per team a year) and Lisander GT (with its ever-growing technology and security concerns) are turning more and more expensive.

To counter this, Lisander Autosports Board (automobile and motorcycle racing board of the nation) is starting to invest in one-spec or low-cost categories, like Open GP National Series, where everyone with a regulated formula car can join the action, paying L$ 5000 for taxes, fuel and tyres, and Lisander Superbike Future League, that runs in L$3000 modified Ferrero 150cc motorbikes.

Lisander's Cricket is a special case, as the LCB represents two nations (Lisander and Alice Bay). The sister nations (who had already formed a single board in the sport's first 40 years in the Imperan League over a century ago) saw an astonishing revival of Cricket T20 after reunification a few years ago, so The Alliance, as the championship is called, is multinational, and is already one of the T20 powerhouses in T20. T20 Cricket is such a fever in Lisander that two teams from the Principality have already won the Champions League T20: Linville in the 6th edition and more recently Castewill in the 9th edition. Unfortunately, Test Cricket and ODI have not yet benefited from this renaissance.

After the list of the five most popular sports, the other sports are semi-professional, subsidized or amateur.

Ice Hockey

Ice Hockey is an example of Semi-Professional sport. In Liga Nacional de Hóquei, only a minority relies on the sport to survive, and most players are part-timers. Salaries paid to players are also modest. There are athletes that also play other sports, but also teachers, personal trainers, skating instructors, doctors, et cetera. There is a clown.

Gridiron Football

Gridiron Football is an example of a subsidized sport. While players do not receive money for playing, the expenses of the teams are usually covered by sponsors or by the league itself. National American Football League, a subsidized league, is the premier full-pads competition of the nation, and started recently. NAFL also organizes a National Flag Championship to amateur Flag Football teams.

University Sports

University Sport is a growing thing in Lisander. Liga Acadêmica Nacional (National Academic League), the association of the biggest 26 universities in the nation, oversees some sports competitions. The most prestigious sports are men's basketball and women's field hockey. Men's Rugby Union, for its pervasiveness in the nation, is known and respected, and scouts from traditional clubs have been more frequent in the university ladder, which has two divisions. Fencing, traditionally co-ed, is an up-and-coming sport, as is Gridiron Football, which recently secured a partnership with NAFL, the country's new league, in the process of becoming professional. Association Football is not very popular with university students, as the evolution of the sport has favored the institution of clubs.

Declared insolvent, Bitten Heroes closes international operations
Who will be the drivers of the Bitten Heroes Academy team at WGP2 Season 3?

Golden days are over for Bitten Heroes. The team that went from heaven to hell, through WGPC, WGP2, Formula Hodori NSSCRA and Air Races in three years, finally threw in the towel. In an interview to TV5 "Sport Mornings", Andrea Lanza (who took the reins of the team after Juliano Lemos decided to quit organized motorsport to treat his depression) said the team won't field another international team.

"We deeply regret this season. We weren't able to do our best, neither our reasonable. Our team was completely out of sync within the rest of the world. Also, we had to deal with the turmoil inside the nation, with the depart of WGP3 foreigners. We reached financial insolvency and barely escaped Bankruptcy. I pay from my pocket some last debts, and Lemos also sold some properties he had acquired."

In 14 minutes of speaking, Lanza disclosed the end of the operations and the destiny of company assets. "Bitten Heroes" trademark is still registered to Bitten Heroes Grand Prix Engineering SRL, a limited liability company registered by Juliano Lemos, and was licensed to Lantis Media. This company will sublicense it for some memorabilia (miniature cars, cards, books and magazines, et cetera) producers and Lemos should make a little profit from this. Megara Investment Fund bought the facilities of the team, keeping the Soria Office for its own running and later sold the Base to Lisander Autosports Board, that plan to make the building a modern motorsports centre. Cars and spare parts were auctioned to interested companies, collectors and privateer teams. Probably, we'll see some Bitten Heroes models in the Open Series races around the nation. Camden and Dunneot bought most of the technology of the team and should apply this to its future endeavours. Lemos sold almost all properties in Lisander to pay debts, keeping only the Grandeville house where he keeps his WGPC15 car (which he flatly refused to sell) and departed with a resident visa to Alice Bay. His (now) wife Ludwika Wiel announced a break in her driving career to follow his husband's treatment and, according to her, fulfil her desire to be a mother.

Academy Drivers were properly paid and released to sign up with other teams. Lourdina Westgrens, Mor Holstein and Athan Lille keep attending University. Westgrens, who seemed to be facing depression again after the end of WGP2 III, announced she planned to quit competitive open-wheel racing and focus in her "academic career" as (amazingly) preschool teacher. She also seems to be making some money by investing on a driver school and on her WhoTube channel. In both, she keeps driving fast cars. Her father Andrew is set to be free from jail in the end of this year, for good behaviour. When asked about the relationship of both, Lanza said he "wasn't allowed to comment that", probably by her request.

Lanza keeps as Lisander Autosports Board acting president for the next three years. When asked about the future of Lisanderian future in World Grand Prix categories, he answered "We don't have that in mind now. LAB had its own lesson and certainly won't allow another project without enough guarantees. I'd say Lisander will certainly not have a national team next season at the WGPC. It is more feasible to think of only one driver, possibly an average or good team. If Camden, Ignis and Bitten Heroes didn't make it, I think we overestimated our ability." Inside our borders, the situation is not that different. WGP3 Alpha League interrupted and tarnished by Lisander political turmoil, but is planned to return, without international drivers, circuits and teams. That's quite a job.

In response to a request from the Lisanderian Basketball Federation for a shorter season to give the national team time to prepare for the Olympics, the SuperLeague teams once again approved a season without Playoffs. So we had a season of 30 games.

Chaos, Panic, Uncertainty. After months of political instability, and a few weeks before the start of the World Cup, Lisander is kicked out of the Imperan League, and consequently the Imperan Football Association. In order not to lose more than he has already lost from national football, Adrian Stannis lobbies with the government, and the nation transfers to the neighbouring region of Esportiva, where known opponents of other sports like Darmen, Kita-Hinode, Filindostan and Apox are already present.

At the same time, Lisander's government decreed that all foreigners from nations who voted against the principality's stay in the league should be expelled from the country, and the mass departure of foreigners scared the FLF, which decided not to allow transfers, in order not to compromise club finances. In addition, the threat of deportations generates a curious incident between the National Team and Club Sparta, involving the marriage of Anders Michaelichen, captain of both teams. "Martina's incident" became public and was a big hit against FLF, which had to resort to AS Virtus 1904, National Champion, who "loaned" his coach to the national team to conclude the qualifiers of the most important sporting event in the universe. At the end of the period, without a coach, the national team could not participate in the Cup of Harmony.

As the preseason progressed, the teams began to take the field. With a shortage of players on all sides, Lisander put in a meager performance in the World Cup qualifiers, as always, while the national teams suffered in the IFCF. Only the National Champion, AS Virtus 1904, managed to reach the group stage of the Challenge Cup, after losing the Champions League to Arsenal Releinthi of Abanhfleft, by a shameful 1-6 in aggregate. All other teams were eliminated in the Preliminaries or Playoffs.

Not all the incidents damaging the federation have hit the league, fortunately. The expansion plans started the previous season are going even better than expected. After eight matches, the first surprises of the championship are already clear realities. Associação Desportiva das Lisandras, recently promoted, demonstrated a strong team outside and inside the shy Lisandras Stadium, which only has capacity for 5600 people, beating the strong Dawson FC, who is the second in the table, two points behind the leader AS Virtus 1904. Despina's side follows their quest for their 17th national title, second in a row, even though they have to share coach Jean-Luc-Lecastel with the national team. Luckily for them, they see their main rivals well behind in the table. The off-field confusions have damaged the atmosphere at the Sparta Stadium, and the red-blacks are only eleventh in the league. Atletico Clube de Kasandora, who have not found themselves in the league yet, are even worse off with only two wins and four defeats in eight games, two places ahead of relegation. In the diametrically opposed position, two places behind the top, Sporting Grandeville is the big surprise of the competition. With a very young team, lead by Lisander U-23 Goalkeeper Gregório Mader, they won the matches against Club Sparta and ACK, and certainly dream of the unprecedented title.

After four more matches, the table begins to change little by little. New year, new teams, new formula. With fifty teams, the League Cup abandons the Knockout format for all teams and adds a bye to the top-ranked ones. This measure was taken to prevent the bigger teams from putting the U18 teams in the Cup, but in the correct category, the new Premiership U18. It is the end of the Giant Killings in early stages. In the first round, teams ranked 15-50 in the unified Ranking of the three professional divisions start the way in Round 1, while teams ranked 1-14 enter only in Round 2.

What a game we had at the Andreas Rozan Stadium! Sporting Grandeville, two points ahead of AS Virtus 1904, received Virtus in their own domain! It's another chapter in this confusing relationship between "creator and creature".

Until three years ago, the two teams belonged to the same business group, the Harmin Group, led by Lisander's Sovereign Family, which is famous for acquiring sports teams in crisis, as it did with Bitten Heroes in the WGPC. In the meantime, players transferred between the two teams at no cost and many youngsters from the academy of little Sporting were trained by the assistants of Jean-Luc Lecastel. However, when Virtus was again able to support himself, the Harmin Group left the management of the team.

If off the pitch the predictions indicated a win for Virtus against their former 'Team B', the predictions could not have been more wrong. Sporting Grandeville imposed themselves, winning by a convincing 3-1 and extending the distance to new second-placed Dawson FC to five points.

On the other side of the table, the fight to move away from last place was won by Trent United. Now, UD Três Rios are five points behind penultimate place, and the situation is getting more and more complex for the Hedra Chemicals team. In the middle of the table, between positions 6 and 14, everything is extremely undefined, and with three good results in a row, even Sparta, who have been doing a poor campaign, can rehabilitate themselves and come close to a place for international competitions.

League Cup: Round 2

The strongest teams enter this round. It's the occasion for some teams who aren't doing well in the Premiership to get a place in an international tournament, the ~~Cygnus Cup~~ Winners Cup, but at the same time, it's the chance for some Giant Killings to shock national football. FC Styria did it once. Stellar Kasandora did it once. Pines Athletic did it once. Who will be the little team that surprises this time?

The effects of Law 43 on the WGP3 Alpha League, and the new teams for the return to the track
From order to chaos and back to order, how the politics and the economy have intervened heavily in the motorsport of the principality in recent months.

Lisander's expulsion from the Imperan League has had a huge effect on the WGP3 Alpha League. The category that had originally been designed to serve all the League nations had to be cancelled because of Law 43.

Issued by Their Highnesses' Direct Government, countersigned by dozens of parliamentarians, including former Prime Minister Valentina Francavilla and now Prime Minister Fernand Ecker, Law 43 was a measure in retaliation for the four countries that voted to expel Lisander from the Imperan League: Ariannin, Lorenthia, Vassiya and Grand Merina. By drafting this law, Lisander closed its border indefinitely to the four, and all citizens of those countries had thirty days to leave the country, with the exception of political asylum seekers, those legally married to Lisander's citizens, students in boarding schools and people undergoing medical treatment for serious or incurable diseases. All other citizens of these countries, found in the principality, could face arrest and deportation. The measure has generated revolt in some cities, such as Grívnia, which is famous for its commune of Vassiyans.

This law deeply affected the WGP3 Imperan League, which lost virtually all its international component in a few days. The Rawson (ARN), Eisenport (LOR) and Syzie Park (VAS) Rounds were immediately cancelled, leaving a big hole in the calendar. At virtually the same time, foreign teams began to leave the championship. ABSA Bank, Supertech Racing's main sponsor, put its share of the team (67% of the shares) up for sale, and said it would take its drivers to "a nation where they would not be segregated for political reasons". The RAC RT team was another to speak out, calling the government's decision "irresponsible and heartless, which damages the lives of thousands of workers and their families", and was also put up for sale. The worst case, however, was Cygnus, which in addition to owning one of the teams, was one of WGP3's partners, and one of three official engine suppliers.

In his note, Cygnus Motors described itself as "appalled at the rebirth of absolutism in Lisander. It is a moment of regret for our more than 14,500 Lorenthian employees or those with Lorenthian family, who find themselves treated by the Crown and the government of His Highnesses with such disrespect as if they were second-class citizens". The note goes on talking about families who will be separated, parents who will no longer be able to see their children, elderly and disabled employees who will be fired, and concludes by saying that "even if this is not our will, we will not offer any more support to Motorsport, while it is dependent on Lisander Autosports Board, which shamefully positions itself next to an authoritarian and cruel government". With the note, Cygnus returned to X-PRO the two cars used by Altis Christiansen and Lars Mikkelsen in the races that had already taken place, but both without the engines, removed for being "100% Lorenthian, ie not allowed in Lisander".

The note generated negative repercussions for LAB and Bitten Heroes, which lost important sponsorships, and this, together with the not very good results in WGP2, led President Andrea Lanza to inform the end of the team's international operations, as previously reported here at TURBO.

If with three fewer teams it would already be complicated, with five the situation became untenable. With the departure of Cygnus from Lisander, the Orion and Seigen Dynamics teams were without the necessary support in the engines they had already paid for. Alan Elbridge and Seigen Mikado decided to look for an improvised solution so they wouldn't miss the season, knocking on Dunneot's doors, as revealed some leaked audio messages on the internet:

"Well, we deliver the engines and you make your nice mess on them."
"You don't charge us anything and you keep the engines to use as a reference for the next ones when this season is over."
"Is that okay with you guys?"

The above message was sent by Alan Elbridge, Orion Team Principal, to a director of Dunneot, the car factory that supplied Lisander's team back in NSSCRA 8, that also have a keen interest in open-wheel categories. However, the leak of these messages ended up causing some unease among the team owners for a while by creating a suspicion of cheating. However, as soon as it became clear that the two teams were only looking for a company that would ensure the engines were in good condition by the end of the season, tempers calmed down in the paddock.

With the category cancelled and the results of previous races discarded, the LAB bought back (with government subsidy and private support) the teams that had left the category, to sell them to other interested parties. The 67% of Supertech that had belonged to ABSA were sold to Data West, a software company, which transformed the team into "DATA WEST Supertech Racing". Supertech, which also used Cygnus engines, was another of those that received the "new Dunneot engines".

The RAC RT Team was sold to Kimi Nasunen, an entrepreneur who made a fortune in metal processing, and recently expanded into the publishing business as well. As owner of Saber Ironworks, as well as Moon Publishing, he called the team TEAM-MOON.The high investment of "Nasu" in national motorsport also included the entry of a Lisanderian team in the Formula Hinode, also named TEAM-MOON, but based on the structure of the former Toad Racing Team, current champion of the Hinodejin championship, which recently closed its operations.

The third team, which were actually just the cars Cygnus had returned to X-PRO was bought by businessman Paolo Vetinari, the owner of a chain of entertainment companies, including radio stations, news portals, nightclubs, restaurants, hotels, motels and a team at Lisander GT. Vetinari entered the category under the influence of his son, Ricardo Vetinari, who is Lisander GT driver and will continue driving Grand Tourers, but will be the team leader at WGP3.

Vetinari's entry marks the current state of WGP3 in Lisander: Completely dependent on big money and with near-empty accounts. According to LAB, WGP3 should return very soon, but no date was confirmed. President Lanza only said that the teams were given time to prepare, rework their work contracts and get the cars back to work.

Doing the right thing and relying on the failures of the big teams, Sporting Grandeville are quietly continuing to lead. They beat AC Kasandora at home and narrowly lost to Club Sparta as visitors. The team's performances have been overwhelming, especially at this stage of the championship, when temperatures have dropped and Grandeville, which is a mountainous city, becomes a much colder environment than the cities on the south coast, Sirenia and Kasandora. With all possible factors in place, Sporting is moving forward.

After 20 rounds of matches, qualification finally took shape more in keeping with what was expected at the start of the season. Virtus, ACK and Sparta are second, fifth and sixth respectively, and with another thirty points to play for, they all still have a chance of winning the championship. From the middle to the bottom, things are also back to "normal", with Soria Union, Solaris Sirenia and CA Oeste occupying more modest positions than the "stronger" teams of their respective cities. Among the rookies of the season, the AD Lisandras continues to do a good job of ensuring their permanence in the top flight, being best ranked than traditional teams like Shamrocks FC and Liath Cuain CP, while Trent United and UD Tres Rios battle it out to see who will escape and who will be relegated.

League Cup: Round of 16

Some surprises and some expected results marked the League Cup Round of 16. The most expected was the reunion of AC Kasandora and Sporting Grandeville four weeks after Sporting's 4-1 Premiership Matchday 16 victory. A highly anticipated match worth every penny, at least for the fans who came from the north... One hundred and twenty minutes of football was not enough to define a winner, and only on penalties could we discover that once again the black-greens beat the tetracolors.

Despite the failures, Sporting Grandeville still maintains a safe distance to Virtus and Dawson on the table. It used to be five points, and now it's six points. Up to fifth place, things remain the same, with Atletico de Kasandora occupying the last place in the Challengers Cup and Club Sparta just behind. Worthy of note is the evolution of Solaris Sirenia, who started the season very badly, and is just two points behind Sparta, the "rich cousin" of the city. The team beat Sporting Grandeville twice in less than twenty days, and still have the chance to dream of a place in the Challengers Cup. At the bottom of the table, the fight remains tough between UDTR and Trent United to escape. The two teams from the East are separated by just three points, and it looks as though this imbroglio between the two will extend into the final round!

League Cup: Quarterfinals

The Giant Killings have happened in practically every match! It's precisely because of that unpredictability that the League Cup is such a charming tournament. The only "big team" to reach the semi-finals was Racing Club de Soria. Favourite Sporting Grandeville lost (just as they had lost two weeks earlier) to sixth-placed Solaris Sirenia, while Virtus 'B' conceded a pair of goals to Beaumont AC inside the Estadio dos Arminhos.

LAN Football Championship

"It's quite mean to say that, but when we talk about football, that is, association football, if you're a quality player, you're not in the Liga Academica Nacional, you're in a club." These words were said by Bruno Lasses, defender of the national team and a former player for POLI in the LAN Football Championship.

University Football is for amateurs, for the weekend players. The federation started to proper recognize the University League as an international feeder, backing its international endeavour as part of its strategy of developing football, but it's a limited support. They will have travel money, maybe some facilitations in contracts with sponsors, but there's no deep-rooted plan to make University Football as strong as Club Academy Football. Between Football Players, there's still that culture of "If you go to the University, you're there to study, so in University Football you won't be trained to your best, nor you will be playing against the best."

You know, you can play college basketball and reach NSCAA. If you play well, you will find a place in SuperLiga or at least NBL. You can join a gridiron project like POLI, and you can reach NSCF and maybe a future contract to play in the NAFL. Maybe you won't join the traditional rugby universities (Universidade de Soria, POLI, Trinity College, Rose University) and if you have quality, you'll be scouted for the top clubs' second or third XV.

But University Football isn't that way. We count in a hand the recent successes of players coming from university and reaching the Premiership. Ricardo Santander, Erick Morton and Bruno Lasses. There are around 300-350 players in a window of five years of a college team. Maybe 5% will turn professionals, most from The College of Salinas. Once, FC Universitario of Salinas was the biggest force in the Lisanderian Sport, 90 years ago or so. Now they are a modest team playing in the Liga Nacional 2 (the third division), and keep as the only that still have ties with University Football. In basketball, this number reaches 50% and will probably increase, after the partnership between LAN and SuperLiga.

WE HAVE OUR NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! With two seasons in advance, Sporting Grandeville entered the match against Trent United in City Park already feeling the trophy on their hands. AS Virtus just had a draw with AC Kasandora. One victory would be enough to make the difference reach 8 points, with only 6 yet to play. The game against the relegation-threatened Trent United was as easy as planned. The 3-1 win secured to Sporting Grandeville its first national title, the first of a northern team since FC Universitário last title, in 1926.

The draw between Virtus and ACK also messed the top of the table, since Thiéry surpassed ACK and Club Sparta in the table, effectively threatening their plans of reaching Challengers' Cup. Currently, six teams still have mathematical chances of reaching the second IFCF competition. In the other side of the table, Liath Cuain CP and Soria Union successfully evaded the relegation zone, leaving the fight between UDTR and Trent United.

Premiership U18

The first season of the Premiership U18 had 48 of the 50 registered for the three professional divisions of national football. Aomori Blitz decided to keep youth teams in the amateur league, and FC Universitário maintains a partnership with The College of Salinas, which competes for the LAN Football Championship. The other teams have been divided into three groups, more or less geographically, and play each other in a single-round robin:

At this stage, the teams have two objectives. Maintenance in the Premiership will only be possible for the top five in each group, and for the best among the sixth place. The other two sixths, all placed between 7th and 10th and the two best 11ths will compete, next season the National 1 U-18. All others will dispute the National 2 U-18. The champions of each group, plus the best among the runners-up, move on to the Final Four.
