About the Nation

The Imperial Commonwealth of Eastfield Lodge is a vast conglomerate of nations and states that resides almost entirely in a separate dimension to the reality you all know and love - a bubble universe would be an apt description (the why is a long story, involving the Dreamed Realm and a threat to the existence of the entire universe). The one bit of the country that lies in the regular dimension is a tiny island in the northern seas of the famous sporting region Rushmore, which serves as a transport hub for travel across the region by conventional transport, and for travel to the Imperial Commonwealth via something called a Void Ship (think of it like travelling through a well controlled wormhole).

The history of the country is long and complex, but the key overview is that it is a very socialist Muslim constitutional monarchy, with a noted reputation as being one of the nicest places to visit in the entirety of the known multiverse - the most recent WA census puts the Imperial Commonwealth in the top 100 nations in several measures such as Safety, Compliance/freedom from crime, Tourism, Weather, Compassion, Niceness and Environmental Beauty, amongst several others; most of which are also ranked as the best in the Rushmore region. Because of the initial portal, whilst humans are the overwhelming majority of the populace here, don't be surprised to find several other alien races and much advanced technology here.

Whilst we are a fairly chill nation, we are still fairly socially conservative, and there are plenty of special rules visitors need to be aware of:
  • No Alcohol. At all.
  • No smoking or recreational drugs at all. Visiting team members/fans will be given replacement/cessation therapy if struggling to cope.
  • No public displays of affection. What you get up to in the privacy of your own hotel room is up to you, as long as it stays there.
  • There isn't a legally enforced dress code, but at least dress respectfully, the locals will appreciate you.
  • Cities are by and large car-free zones; make use of the extensive public transport system.
  • Don't worry about a language barrier, there is an inbuilt telepathic translation circuit within the visas that you will be issued - it translates all speech and text into a language you understand instantaneously.
  • No unhealthy junk food will be available, the country is too healthy for that. Also, the food will all be halal, but there is an extensive range of vegetarian/vegan options for those who insist.
  • Ignore all the cameras and the police presence. They're for the safety of everyone.
  • High-level technology pervades every aspect of society and life here, get used to it.

There will be 8 stadiums in the Imperial Commonwealth of Eastfield Lodge used across the group stage, with each group being allocated two stadiums for the group stage, as well as two others that will be used in the knockouts. There are extremely good rail links between various cities which allow plenty of time to relax and recover between matches and journeys. The stadiums listed are below:

Group A:

Lodger City Memorial Stadium
Capacity: 150,000
Location: New Lodger City
Info: The national team's stadium and the crown jewel of stadia in the country, the Memorial Stadium is a state-of-the-art facility and was built on the grounds of the old national stadium following a disaster that levelled a large proportion of what was the former capital city. The stadium holds inscribed names of all the dead in that disaster - well over 5 million. The Memorial Stadium played host to the final of the 69th Baptism of Fire along with the third place playoff in the 75th Cup of Harmony, and will host all Eastfield Lodge group matches, and the grand final.

North Bank Stadium
Capacity: 50,000
Location: Bridgetown
Info: Further down the banks of the Cillin River from New Lodger City, the North Bank is the largest stadium in the city, and plays host to midtable Premier League side Nile Bridge. It's a fairly narrow stadium, with tall, imposing stands very close to the pitch, which in itself is on the smaller side. Bridgetown itself is a relatively old city covering the confluence of 3 major rivers, with plenty of history and culture flowing through its streets, from street markets to the Artisan Quarter featuring various arts and crafts shops. In addition to group stage matches, the North Bank will host a quarter-final.

Group B:

Parliament Stadium
Capacity: 80,000
Location: Lodgertia
Info: The biggest stadium in the country until the Memorial Stadium was completed, and second home of the national team, in the new capital of Eastfield Lodge. So named because it sits right next door to the Parliament of the Imperial Commonwealth, such that the Parliament even has viewing window onto the pitch exclusively dedicated to them. It is currently home to the lower-league pair of Lodgertia United and City, albeit still a fierce rivalry, but was also a temporary home for both RGS and VLC. Parliament Stadium will also host the Third Place Playoff.

East Monksville Park
Capacity: 45,230
Location: Monksville
Info: The proud city of Monksville lies a fairly short distance from Lodgertia, but are nonetheless extremely fanatical about football, despite their teams' rather mediocre performances. League founders Monksville United are the occupants of this stadium, and claim to be one of the driving forced behind the unification of the Eastfielder footballing scene into what it is today. A city steeped in history with one of the oldest stadiums in the country, one to visit for any fans of sporting lore. It will host one of the quarter-final matches.

Group C:

King Iqbal II Stadium
Capacity: 90,000
Location: New Lodger City
Info: One of two brand new stadiums in the city, the royally named stadium was built for the most successful team in the Eastfielder league, RGS Athletic, who along with their rivals had been using the national stadium as a temporary venue. This stadium has seen some of the most success of any domestic team in the country, even in its short life, and the visiting teams will hope that they can grab some of that success for their own. One of the semi-finals will be hosted here as well.

Vorgan Park
Capacity: 85,000
Location: New Lodger City
Info: The other brand new stadium in the city, Vorgan Park is located in the city's large working-class suburb, one that mostly escaped the disaster that laid waste to the old capital. Home to VLC FC, this stadium probably has the best atmosphere in all of Eastfield Lodge, if not the wider Imperial Commonwealth. Teams playing in here will need to have the stomach to handle such a crowd. Vorgan Park will host the other semi-final.

Group D:

Olympic Park
Capacity: 60,000
Location: Mount Salt City
Info: Mount Salt City will be the first city all visiting fans will experience, as the portal dividing the Imperial Commonwealth from the wider world opens a short distance from the city. The city played host to a regional olympics of an ancient and since-extinct place called the New Empire of Gallifrey, and has since been regarded as the heart of all sports (excluding football) in the country. However, the Olympic Park has seen footballing success as well, playing host to two-time defending champions Olympia FC. Will play host to a quarter-final.

Norrion Park
Capacity: 65,352
Location: Norrion
Info: Norrion are another (basically) one-team city, with Norrion Rovers capturing the hearts and minds of the city in their bids to uproot the old order. Norrion Park sits right in the heart of the city centre, and is probably its only major landmark - certainly its oldest. Definitely very partisan supporters, so this may be one of the most hostile atmospheres around. Be prepared. Norrion will also play host to a quarter-final.

Savojar Roster for Copa Rushmori 34

TEAM

STAFF

Coach: Mikaela Rangren
Age: 46 // Coach since: Copa Rushmori 34
Mikaela Rangren has been working as an assistant coach to Lise Asbeck in the legendary World Cup 81 run, and has served two more national managers in the NT. Now she has taken over the reigns for an attempt at salvaging the Savojar NT ship from its bumbling course. She has been given a contract until the end of WC 85, and her appointment represents a turn away from intricate tactics and towards more Savojar virtues. She will probably look for a more direct approach to the game, relying on Savojarna’s physical culture and passionate, fighting spirit. Rangren has shown a particular strength in keeping the team together, and it seemed like her continued presence as a mediator may have helped to get the team back on track quickly after the split surrounding Jurtanen in the World Cup 84 qualification.

Coaching Team: Johan Andreassen, Alexey Jotanov, Asgeir Rundberg
Ages: 44, 47, 64 // Special functions: Main assistant, Video coach, Physical trainer
Andreassen is an old friend of Rangren who has gone through coaching education together with her. He now supports her as an all-round assistant, although he will probably focus more on leading the team on the pitch rather than supporting tactics and preparation.
Jotanov is a rather creative tactical mind and one half of the U-21 co-coaching team. He has been brought on board as part of the WC90 project to create a more unified approach across the three Savojar national teams (adult, U21, U18). He will be here mainly to support Rangren off the pitch with video trainings and tactics briefing.
Rundberg got introduced after criticisms that the team had not been sufficiently prepared for the long WCQ campaign. As physical and conditioning trainer, he has a reputation of a tough and demanding man, although he works closely with the medical team to ensure Savojarna's players are well prepared for their games.

Goalkeeper Coach: Valtteri Andersson
Age: 47
Andersson was a long-term goalkeeper for Energie Thorsborg and got directly transferred into the club's youth department when he retired at age 33. Following some good work with the club's youth department, he got trained as a GK coach and worked with the first team and the U21 of Energie for a while before being brought onto the squad of the NT early on. He still works with Energie on the side and is reputed to be very good at developing a goalkeeper's weaknesses.

Doctor: Dr. Christer Ljungberg
Age: 53
Christer is the head of the medical team of the Savojar NT and generally has a reputation of being the team’s good soul. Many players have come to him over the years to discuss their insecurities or physical problems, to the point that many consider Ljungberg to essentially be a second mental coach.

TEAM

#1 Iiro Pakanen
Position: GK // Age: 25 // Height: 194 cm // Club: Jinja City FC (BNJ)
Pakanen has moved abroad after being a bit overlooked in Savojarna, and he quickly grabbed a strong hold of the lead goalie position at Jinja City FC. He is a pretty strong goalkeeper with good reflexes on the line and a very calm behaviour, helped by his experience on the international stage with Jinja City. Now, he’s being brought back to the homeland in the national team, expected to take up the legacy of recently retired legend Viktorija Petrova.

#2 Flemming Skov
Position: RB // Age: 24 // Height: 185 cm // Club: Admiral Storevik
Part of the legendary DBC 45 squad, Skov’s career has stalled a little as he was locked behind a strong Lucas Bengtsson, but he has managed to fight back for his position and got rewarded by a starting position at champions Admiral, who have gone on a transfer offensive. He is an aggressive fullback who will provide offensive pressure, and known for both speed and stamina. Will likely come off the bench if Savojarna are behind.

#3 Simon Omark
Position: CB // Age: 30 // Height: 178 cm // Club: ASK Landsmark
Omark is a strategically smart and ball-secure modern CB. He will secure the ball and organise the game from the back. In the air, he suffers from his comparatively lower height, but he compensates it with speed and intelligence. His tackles are often very well-timed, although compared to other Savojar CBs he somewhat lacks aggressiveness. Despite a bad season with ASK, he has been taken back into the team.

#4 Joonas Andersson
Position: DM // Age: 33 // Height: 187 cm // Club: Admiral Storevik
Andersson is the defensive anchor point of the Savojar midfield, and has shown a splendid championship season with Admiral. He is not very fast, but has excellent judgment and tackling skills, making him the pivot of the defence. He will often drop back between the two CB's if Savojarna have the ball and secure the defence to allow the wingbacks to overlap. Also regularly drops back against wide teams, as he is taller than most CB's in the roster and can help with aerial defence.

#5 Matts Pedersen
Position: LB // Age: 23 // Height: 187 cm // Club: Tanrısal (PAS)
Pedersen is another fast, aggressive fullback who is extremely persistent, but joins the offence aggressively. This leads to him being vulnerable to counters over the left side, where he might not be able to react in time if he was too advanced before. He has excellent 1v1 skills on both sides of the ball, but is a bit lacking in passing accuracy. His past issues with decision-making are now considered largely overcome thanks to his high-level experience in Pasarga, and he is considered a mental leader in the team.

#6 Niklas Hoyberg
Position: CM // Age: 28 // Height: 194 cm // Club: Dynamo Sjoedrhavn
Hoyman used to play a regista role, organising the game from the back; but with Rangren looking for more play through the centre, he will have to do more running work. His strength is a pinpoint accuracy in longer balls as well as a good eya, and is also a very strong header, which means that he will often go up for standards. Hoyberg's biggest weakness is that he is often passed rather easily in defence, which is balanced by a defensively oriented midfielder next to him.

#7 Mikhail Jashkin
Position: RF // Age: 23 // Height: 176 cm // Club: Farrenton Athletic (EUR)
A fast and technically gifted hybrid winger who is known for a deadly eye and his laser-like passes. While he has decent crossing skills, he tends to opt for a flat pass into the box or a dribbling instead, acting almost as a false nine that plays wide on the right. He is one of the most observed players on the team, and his move to Eura has greatly helped him to develop further into the dominating forward he is today.

#8 Victoria Maersk [C]
Position: CM // Age: 29 // Height: 157 cm // Club: North Sabrefell (NPH)
Maersk is a classical box-to-box allrounder who is strong in most tasks, besides her aerial inferiority due to height, and has a high stamina and speed. While not excelling at anything, she is considered a utility player that will probably see a lot of playtime in various positions and roles depending on the situation. Moved to North Sabrefell in a state of insecurity, and has grown into a central force at her club, despite their recent relegation.

#9 Arvid Jotansson
Position: ST // Age: 26 // Height: 192 cm // Club: Admiral Storevik
Jotansson can assume a more forward role or something akin to a false nine, but is more at home in the box. He is a tall, physical striker who is not particularly fast, but very hard to separate from the ball and has a strong shot as well as a good eye for his teammates. Used to be a trusty substitute, but with Voynov gone at his club and Sigurdsdottir in a slump at the NT, he is becoming a viable starter after a strong season at Admiral.

#10 Morten Poulsen
Position: OM // Age: 23 // Height: 180 cm // Club: Partisan Sjoedrhavn
Poulsen grew from shaky prospect to bona-fide playmaker at Parti, and has enjoyed the love of their fans for a while now. He was also a part of the legendary DBC 45 team, although primarily as a substitute. He is a creative player that has a large stamina and a good shot, but defensively lacks caution sometimes. Plays in a very similar system at Partisan, which should make his inclusion in the team not too hard.

#11 Freya Sigurdsdottir
Position: ST // Age: 33 // Height: 193 cm // Club: ESK Storevik
At 193 cm, Freya Sigurdsdottir is the tallest striker of the Savojar squad. She is a box striker who likes to linger around the edge of the penalty area (or the enemy defence) and then use her speed to position herself in front of the goal for a rebound, cross or through pass. Expect her to score many goals especially against smaller opponents. Also known for extremely cold nerves, which is why she is a staple in the shootout. After a difficult season, it is unclear if she will play a starting role.

#12 Thomas Larsen
Position: GK // Age: 28 // Height: 195 cm // Club: CASK Thorsborg
Considered almost equal to Petrova and one of the best goalies of Savojarna, but stood in her shadow due to Petrova's NT pedigree and is now edged out by Pakanen after the latter’s success in Banija. Larsen is quite athletic and assumes control of his box. Especially at standards and in crossing situations, he likes to use his height to pluck the ball out of the sky, but he is a bit slow on the line. Has a very good read of strikers.

#13 Polina Zirkova
Position: CB // Age: 22 // Height: 182 cm // Club: CASK Sjoedrhavn
Zirkova is a pretty exciting defensive player and considered one of the most exciting young players in Savojarna right now. She is defensively solid, although not impassable. Her excitement comes from the abilities in building up the game. Zirkova often moves up to assist the midfielders, or plays long balls from the back to one of the wingers hanging back or even all the way to the playmaker. She also is confident on the ball herself, occasionally dazzling the audience with a good dribble. However, sometimes her judgement is lacking and she commits mistakes unnecessarily.

#14 Lenka Otalainen
Position: OM // Age: 29 // Height: 168 cm // Club: Savojars Vinge Virkaja
Otalainen is a classical playmaker who has superb passing skills and can play both in the box and in the offensive half or on the wing, but is a bit weaker defensively. She is likely to play if the Savojars fall behind and is remarkable thanks to her extremely precise shots even from longer distances, making her a threat for goals as well as assists.

#15 Steinar Aarsoy
Position: LM // Age: 24 // Height: 179 cm // Club: Partisan Sjoedrhavn
Steinar Aarsoy played a second convincing season in a row with Partisan, and cot the call over an aging Ville Mertonen in consequence. He is a more traditional winger than the likes of Voynov, but has a good eye and is very fast. He also often passes back to the edge of the box or into the midfield if there is open space, and isn’t shy of working backwards if required.

#16 Markus Mellin
Position: RF // Age: 28 // Height: 187 cm // Club: North Hall (BRE)
Mellin is a hybrid winger, aiming for the goal more than for the cross, and can also be used in a striker position. He is a physical player, with a strong body and breaking through the lines. He also likes using his height to position himself at the far post, aiming for any spare balls. After a breakout season at Torpedo, he was transferred to Brenecia, where he has fit right in and managed a decent season, earning himself another call-up.

#17 Bjarne Thorvaldsson
Position: LB // Age: 26 // Height: 180 cm // Club: Partisan Sjoedrhavn
Thorvaldsson is a physically strong and defensively minded player with relatively high likelihood of fouls. Hard to pass, but also rarely moving forward, he is somewhat of a polar opposite to Pedersen, and looks like he comes straight out of mediaeval Savojarna with a tall, hulking presence and a wild beard. When he has the ball, chances are he tries to get rid of it as fast as possible, even if it means smacking it into the stands.

#18 Perttu Karjanen
Position: ST // Age: 33 // Height: 176 cm // Club: Partisan Sjoedrhavn
Karjanen is the polar opposite of Sigurdsdottir and Jotansson, as he uses his speed and technique to make up for his lower height. He often drops back into the space between the defence and the midfield to wait for balls and play in a combi with either winger or with Sigurdsdottir. As a veteran player and former captain of the team, he is considered extremely important for the mentality of the side as well.

#19 Krister Voynov
Position: LF // Age: 25 // Height: 177 cm // Club: Raynor City United (VAL)
Potentially the most exciting single player in the Savojar team, this fast and skilful winger is a constant threat. Voynov loves to swing inside to challenge an opposing defender directly and is extremely good in 1v1 situations. He also scores many goals with a strong and precise shot, and has accurate passing skills as well. His main weakness is a lack of defensive work, forcing the left side to cover for his roaming.

#20 Linne Kjaer
Position: CB // Age: 28 // Height: 182 cm // Club: Dynamo Sjoedrhavn
Similar to Omark, she is technically and positionally strong and knows what to do on the ball. Kjaer is somewhat slow but makes up for this mistake by knowing very well where to stand, and has a great skill in standing duels for the ball. Her tackles can be a bit shaky at times and may lead to mistakes or fouls, which is why she rarely resorts to them. Kjaer is also important as the organiser of the defence.

#21 Alexey Nurkanen
Position: RB // Age: 28 // Height: 180 cm // Club: Libertas Bergheim
Nurkanen is very fast and a precise tackler, as well as having good judgment in building up plays. He often overlaps dangerously as well, having a great cross that can find the head of his teammates in the box. Nurkanen's stamina is lauded for often running up and down the line all day long, but he can sometimes be a bit out of the water when challenged in a fast counter due to his overlaps.

#22 Aleksandra Virulainen
Position: GK // Age: 21 // Height: 181 cm // Club: Savojars Vinge Virkaja
Virulainen uses a great awareness and control of the box to counter-act her comparatively lower height and has shown brilliant oversight. She is among the best goalkeepers in Savojarna, and by far the best of her age, when it comes to ball-on-foot skills, and many see her as Petrova's eventual successor in the national team. Has made an appearance as starting goalie in DBC 47 and was a part of the most recent World Cup campaign, although she still awaits her first elite NT match.

#23 Roman Forsberg
Position: CB // Age: 25 // Height: 188 cm // Club: Energie Thorsborg
Forsberg is another one of the Savojar ball-secure, modern CB's, but shows some nerves at times. He has greatly profited from taking on a more important role in his club and has cut down on his mistakes, but is still prone to occasional over-aggressive positioning or similar faults. His best skill is his heading, as he is a very strong jumper and tall player. He will often join the attack on standards.

MT socialist (mostly) island state - Cultural mixture of Scandinavia, Finland and Russia -Exports iron, steel, silver and wood - Low fantasy in terms of animal species - Sports-loving - 22.8 million inhabitants.

The adjective is Savojar; Savojarnan is not a word!
I am a student of (European) politics, ice hockey fan, left-wing communist bordering on anarchy, and European federalist. Enjoy!

Home Away Third
Modifier: +1

Manager: Srđan Jakšić, age 49
Assistant: Michael Mueller, age 49

Goalkeepers
GK: Sasa Szatmáry, age 30, Club Stein-los (F)
GK: Lisístrato Ramírez Alvardo, age 30, Cornellians Image
GK: Ambrus Galambos, age 27, Stein-los Turkish

Gerber has been dropped and now Galambos has a chance to prove that the number one shirt is his to keep, if he can duplicate the showing that he had in Pasarga two years ago. However he need keep an eye over his shoulder after Alvardo had an amazing season in Schottia, helping Cornellians to the league title there with a very good defensive record. It's a position of relative strength for the Wanderers' but one that feels like it could collapse at a moment, with very little in terms of depth outside of those who have been called into this squad.

Defenders
LB: Rozalia Sebeôk, age 25, Duke of the North (F)
LB/LW: Deli Ács, age, 24, Directus Image
CB: Laborc Szöllössy, age 24, Spartangrad Image
CB: Ralf Bader, age 30, Directus Image
CB: Torsten Mueller, age 28, Stein-los Turkish
CB: Christian Berg, age 30, Starling Image
R/CB: Tabor Csikós, age 24, Spartangrad Image
RB: Arnþrúður Kristjánsdóttir, age 28, Hellinic Rouge (F)

This is a unit who should be stronger than they are, with Bader and Berg being individually among the best defenders in the world, yet with the national team there seems to be a lack of cohesion among the ranks, even as they try to form an imposing partnership. It may be a case of two players who are two similar to one another and are getting in each others way, which would be an awful shame given these were supposed to be the pillars upon which a golden generation was built. Luckily there is still time for the fullbacks to make good, which provides a small spark of hope from the group. IIt will most definitely be a rotation policy among the entire back four, as the team needs to figure out who it can trust before the Qualifiers begin in the fall.

Midfielders

RW: Jan Gersten, age 27, Bastion Image
RW: Ádám Berecz, age 28, Baskita FC
AMC: Mária Vöröss, age 24, Royal Canterlot HC Image
D/MC: Szalyk Földessy, age 24, Crawford City FC Image
A/MC: Benci Gölöncsér, age 26, Klyde FC Image
MC: Kerecsen Benke, age 29, CA Paulinthal
LW: Orsolya Gere, age 30, Sabrefell Athletic Image
AML/ST: Boriska Nagy, age 22, Spartangrad Image

The midfield does not look like a unit that many would be familiar with, bar the exceptional talents of Gere and Berecz who have been a mainstay in the team for just shy of a decade now. Mária Vöröss has become a known commodity after making her breakthrough last Copa and putting in decent performances for both club and country but she lacks a bit of the bite and stature in presence that former advanced midfielders have had. Benke is a good all around center mid but does not excel in any one role and likely will never be considered great, a trait all too common throughout the entirety of the squad to be honest. There is a bit of a spark out on the left, with the young Nagy, but most see her future as a striker rather than on the wing. All in all, it's a talented group but one that has no wow factor or will instill you in confidence that they will get the job done against the more difficult of oppositions more often than not.

Strikers

AMC/ST: Alexander Jager, age 28, Revolutionaries Image
ST: Petar Galić, age 28, Hellinic Rouge
ST: Nataša Horvat, age 26, Olympia FC Image (F)
ST: Júlia Müller, age 25, Cloudsdale Flyers Image (F)

Júlia Müller has become a star over the last three years and one that is burning very hot, a star for which the entire squad can look forward to for direction, much like Jager. With the pair of explosive strikers at the head of the attack, the Wanderers' will never be out of contention for any match, with the goals clearly there to be had if the rest of the squad can feed their two dynamic strikers. Add in Petar off the bench who has had a tremendous rise in stature and performance over the last three or four years, and this is a very good attack, the question will be if they can score enough goals to cover up the lapses that have emerged in the rest of the squad.

Tactics

Jakšić is on thin ice, after having missed out on the World Cup, but managed to win the Cup of Harmony without the side taking a defeat in that competition, a feat that allows him to still have a job. There was not anything particularly wrong with the tactics or teams that the manager had put out there, apart from a lack of consistency and being in one of those dreaded groups of death that happens from time to time. Having seen his defense exposed one too many times during the qualifiers, he has opted to maintain the more traditional 4-4-2 of Pasargan history rather than the more risky 4-3-1-2 that he had tinkered with during the Qualifiers. The possession, balanced approach has worked before for the Wanderers' in the Copa, as it had just two years ago when Jakšić took over a shellshocked squad but managed to retain their Copa crown, an achievement he is looking to replicate and build the momentum needed to keep his job through the next Qualifiers.

MANAGERIAL STAFF
Manager: Miles Snavely
A promising first qualifying campaign was followed by a Round of Sixteen exit in extra time for Snavely's young Purple Knights squad. Now it seems the squad has only gotten younger. The side lacks the veteran leadership it had for the last two years, and is now almost exclusively made up of the young kids who did so well to qualify for these last two World Cups. Snavely heads into his second Copa Rushmori and looks to once again push his side towards the title. This team looks a lot like his last squad, and it looks like the more quirky aspects of Snavely's lineups look to be holding with some interesting youth picks, and a few lineup decisions that reflect what we saw in the last two tournaments. Will these choices continue, or will the roster continue to adapt under the young international manager?

GOALKEEPERS

1 – Florian Wagner – Capetown Crocs 27 Caps, 0 Goals, 18 Years Old
Wagner walked into Miles Snavely's first starting lineup and teenage phenom has not once let the position up. There have been a few shaky performances but the young Capetown native has seen his spot become one of the most solid in the starting lineup. A great start to his international career saw Wagner make a Round of Sixteen performance at a World Cup, but to continue to grow he will have to show out in the next two tournaments in hopes of a big move abroad.

12 – Esteban Foh – X Island Marauders 8 Caps, 28 Years Old
Esteban Foh got closer and closer as the long qualifying Campaign for World Cup 84 continued but ultimately Florian Wagner was up for the test. He seems unlikely to ever earn his 10th international cap, and currently he just seems to be keeping the seat warm for young Isaac Leyton to take over the second Goalkeeper position after Fox inevitably hangs up his boots sooner rather than later.

24– Isaac Leyton – New Capetown Nordiques 0 Caps, 19 Years Old
Isaac Leyton was given a rare chance to start over Florian Wagner at the U21 World Cup and to say he did less than impress would be an overstatement. The Youth teams have been pretty average recently and Wagner qualified for both of them, but with a heavy workload came a chance for his rival from New Capetown. Leyton showed why he was the second best option to the World Cup starter.

DEFENDERS
6- CB, Yoshimi Hirahito – Cornellians (Schottia) 45 Caps, 0 Goals, 20 Years old
Miles Snavely's affinity for Center mdifielder's at center back just seemed a necessity at the last World Cup qualifying campaign. A way to get the best players on the field at the same time. Once we had ample center-backs to play many thought it would fall by the wayside. Now it looks a trend as Yoshimi Hirahito steps into the ball-playing center back positions alongside what many expect to be Daigo Coshan's ball-winning side of things.

8 - CB, Daigo Coshan - Laketown Rangers 96 Caps, 1 goal, 28 Years Old Vice-Captain
Daigo Coshan may be a little upset at not earning the Captain's armband, but the long serving center-back now is the veteran core of the team with many retirements since the last campaign. Coshan seems likely to set off into the sunset after he hopefully plays in his third World Cup in a little while. He is the most capped player in this team, and barring red-cards and a failure to advance will earn his century cap during this torunament in Eastfield Lodge.

22 - RB, Sullivan Garrett - Moresville FC 0 Caps, 0 Goals, 16 Years Old
The real surprise on this lineup for non-Taeshan based Rushmore fans. The new starter, and youngest player on the team is Moresville star Sullivan Garrett. Being a fashionable right back is hard for many to do but Garrett's ease on the ball has many scouts from around the world looking to pry Sullivan to play for them. He will likely follow in the footsteps of former Moresville fullback Santiago Santiago, and leave sooner rather than later.

23 - LB, Santiago Santiago – Oljestaden (Audioslavia) 62 Caps, 1 Goal, 25 Years Old
Santaigo Santiago's move to Audioslavia did a lot to open some doors for the Taeshani leftback. Apox was his home for a long period of time, but moving abroad after knocking your base country out of a World Cup is often a good idea. The former Moresville Fullback retains the left side of the field, which is interesting with a younger version of himself now starting on his weaker right side in Garrett. Santiago now must do more heady work as both fullbacks are overlapping, speedsters, and they will have to communicate more than Santiago would have with his less mobile opposite backs in recent times of Geoffrey Klingenberg and Daigo Coshan.

2 – Desmond Cavanaugh – X Island Marauders 5 caps, 22 Years Old
One of the players most likley to be annoyed by the musical chairs in defense is Desmond Cavanaugh who likely had a shot at the starting center-back position with a more traditional coach. Cavanaugh likely now looks to be third choice center-back on the bench with Liam MCKenzie's call-up from Yaton FC.

3- Victor Borja– Club Jim Falls (Darmen) 8 Caps, 23 Years Old
On the list of players who were likely unhappy to see the rise of Sullivan Garrett in Moresville was longtime national team fullback Victor Borja. On the verge of likely getting the second fullback spot almost by default, Borja now looks on as a younger version of what he used to be now starts. Borja is a good option on both flanks, but seems unlikely to be called on much with all the defensive bench options in Snavely's Arsenal.

4 - Liam McKenzie Yaton FC– 0 Caps, 0 Goals, 22 Years Old
Winning a title does a lot for your national team prospects and Liam McKenzie has earned his first call-up thanks in part to that. McKenzie has been a youth national teamer for a good while, and now looks to make his mark on the national team. While probably chuffed to be passed over by Hirahito in his natural position, McKenzie will likely do a lot to push for that starting position, and with the stable of young center backs in the national team roster there looks to be a lot of pushing and shoving to show their very best.

5- Aidan Foster – Atlantea Hurricanes 9 Caps, 1 Goal, 25 Years Old
Often lost in the confusion of the last World Cup was the goal scored by Aidan Foster that did a lot to help the Knights advance. While he is not the flashiest of players and hasn't the most hype of the defenders on the roster he has definitely done his part. What remains to be seen is if he can push for a few starts, and be the top of the pile still in the upcoming campaign and be called on with the trust that was shown to him in the World Cup.

MIDFIELDERS

10- CDM, Alson Figueroa - Fadron Flight 96 Caps, 11 goals, 28 Years Old
Calling Yoshimi Hirahito a Center-back in the press release raised a few eyes, but the labling of Alson Figueroa as a Defensive midfielder probably raised the most. Having 96 caps as the starting Attacking midfielder seems to mean nothing to Miles Snavely as a player he played with is now asked to do something completely different. Rumors are that Snavely is looking at him more as a
Takilante in the mold of Faragó rue Cazade how that managed to work remains to be seen.

11-CAM, Larson Sneijder – Yenvil Town FC 20 Caps, 1 Goal, 20 Years old
The beneficiary of the Figueroa move is Yenvil Town product Larson Sneijder who moves into the attacking midfielder role. Sneijer makes 3 of 4 of the young midfielder guns now starting with Benjamin Moriarty likely moving into Sneijder's young attacking bench player role for the time moving forward. Sneijder's Golden Ball play in the Taeshan Premier League likely has international teams sniffing, and if the Yenvil Town side continues to rise up the table to historic sites they may see the fruits of their labors in a huge sale of their now biggest ever player.

14 - RM, Nycolas Jackson – Willox Street Pirates (Schottia) 54 Caps, 4 Goals, 20 Years Old
The rumor mill has Nycolas Jackson moving from Willox Stree after two succesful years for the small Schottian club, but Jackson seems likely only to accept a big move to a big team in a big city. The young right midfielder was a key part in the success of the team at the last World Cup and will be a big part of the success of the team as they move forward in Miles Snavely's reign.

18- LM Shiloh Morgenstern – Real Azuris (Cosumar) 65 Caps, 6 Goals, 24 Years OldCaptain
Many figured Daigo Coshan would be the new captain but Cosumar league champion Shiloh Morgenstern has earned the honor and it really fits. One of the young crew who helped qualify to his first world cup in his first season starting, Morgenstern is a leader on the pitch. The confidence that radiates from him is unparalleled in this lineup and after a strong World Cup, and strong league campaign he could be pushing this team to the greatest stage it has ever seen.

15 – Elaine Mathieu – Mierton Manatees 21 Caps, 1 Goal, 25 Years Old
The main option on the bench on the technical side of things is Elaine Mathieu. While he doesn't have the speed and creativity that Benjamin Moriarty has shown Elaine's quick feet, and quick mind have been a big part of the recent Mierton strangelhold on the top five. Moving forward he is a big part of the team from the bench, if not as a starter.

17- Xavier Melchoir – Mynda Electra (Banija) 6 Caps, 0 Goals, 24 Years Old
Making a strong push for time with an electric season in Banija Xavier Melchoir has made the most of his time abroad and while he may not be appreciated at home the Banijan press seem to think he can move up their after a strong season, and that could lead to bigger things. If Miles Snavely were to notice of course.

19 – Giacomo Pantalaimon – Hannah 8 Caps, 1 Goals, 22 Years Old
Interestingly this roster has switched Giacomo and Elmo Brubaker's positions, and while the two Hannah youth products are rather interchangeable we do hope that Miles Snavely just hasn't forgotten who the two youngsters are.

20 – Benjamin Moriarty – Yaton FC 14 Caps, 0 Goals, 22 Years Old
Benjamin Moriarity seems to be being groomed to be the next Wide midfielder for the squad, and with Alson Figeuroa retiring it remains to be seen what happens with the young midfield. Who moves around to make room? Moriarty already deserves to start, but there is a great group of talent and unlucky 20 years ago these kids actually seem to be able to back up their talk on the field.

21 – Lionel Ninetails – Bayern-Algaer 0 Caps, 18 Years Old
Surprisingly only two new youngster joined the fray this year and Lionel Ninetails is the second one. While Bayern-Algaer hasn't been the talk of Taeshan in a few years they have definitely managed to stay a part of the conversation unlike their crosstown rivals. Much of that has been due to a young midfielder slowly rising up and that is their youth product Ninetails. A crafty "mother-****er" to quote his coaches, Ninetails definitely knows how to create chances and this is something that a defensive, and more powerful Taeshan team will need to have.

STRIKERS

7 - RS, Abriel Torres - Cloudsedale Flyers (Equestrian States) 81 Caps, 16 Goals, 27 Years Old
Abriel Torres tenure in Equestria is one that not a lot of young Taeshani's have ever managed to had. He moved abroad early in his career and chose a stable place to live, pardon the pun. Now he has long been a stalwart in the national team, and while it seems he will be long remembered as a hero of the game, he will definitely be someone the future generations look up in wonder.

9 - LS, Wilhelm Nkitilina – KT Itzalovalle (Audioslavia) 52 Caps, 27 Goals, 22 Years Old
A move to Audioslavia that has really pushed the young striker has many fans hoping he can use this to really propel himself in qualifying and in the upcoming Copa Rushmori. While not as on the ball in the World Cup as many would have hoped he still has a lot ahead of him, and with at least 3 more World Cup chances ahead of him Nkitilina may yet be a legend of the Taeshani game.

13 – Shannon Lafayette - Ojian Orangemen 8 Caps, 0 Goals, 20 Years Old
A move abroad is hopefully in the cards for Shannon Lafayette if he has any hope of taking any potential opening position. While Ojian has enabled him to score a lot of goals there lack of defense, in any form of the word, sees him needing a new home. Hopefully he can use this Copa Rushmori to push for any such transfer deal before the beginning of next season.

16 – Elmo Brubaker – Hannah 8 Caps, 0 Goals, 22 Years Old
Hannah has produced a lot of players recently and while they may be names you know like Brubaker and Pantalaimon, it seems unlikely that either will see the field a lot this campaign. Or they could, it is hard to tell.

Notes

Between their appearances in the 24th and 32nd editions of the Copa Rushmori, Saintland underwent two time warps with over 50 years elapsing. In the years that elapsed, Saintland split into the Feministvs Sanctvsterra-run west and the Church of Saintland-run east which were eventually unified under the eastern government after King Petrus XX (now officially regarded as a usurper and heretic) died without a male heir and King Paulus XVI, son of King Andreas, refused to recognize the legitimacy of the law permitting Petrus's daughters to take the throne. After conquering Saintland, King Paulus XVI has restored the Church of Saintland to its legally dominant position and has pursued a course slightly more traditional than that of his grandfather. Sanctii time now runs at the same pace as Republican time (OOC: 1 year per WC).

The quality of Sanctii soccer has declined precipitously in recent years as baseball has become the most popular sport due to King Paulus XVI's legendary status in that sport. While King Paulus XVI's son Prince Andreas is tearing up youth soccer at the moment and may one day follow in his grandfather's footsteps, he was nowhere near ready for international competition which means that Saintland returned to international play with a young defensive-oriented team led by goalkeeper Alessandro Suedius, the young goalkeeper for the St. Nicolaus team that had won the Sanctii league championship 3 years straight. Suedius selected a team of younger stars from the Sanctii league due to the low expectations surrounding the team. After being held back in high school for a year due to his conduct, the now 21 year old Prince Andreas has led St. Petrus to a domestic title and will be permitted to join the National Soccer Team at World Cup 85. For the 34th edition of the Copa Rushmori, the same team that scored the fewest goals in both World Cup 84 qualifying and Cup of Harmony 76 will be returning. They also finished with the fewest goals conceded in Cup of Harmony 76 and as one of the top defensive sides in World Cup 84 qualifying.

The team is built around conservative, physical, defensive play. If the officials allow rough play, this Sanctii team will take advantage of it to frustrate attack-oriented opposition with a steady diet of borderline dirty tackles. As for the team itself, none of the players particularly stand out other than Suedius and Suedius will shuffle players in and out on a regular basis. The starters listed are the most likely starters but that exact lineup will almost never be the lineup Suedius goes with for an actual match.

Copa Rushmori XXXIV Roster

Staff
Gilduin Roux spent four season as the manager for Patrons, the Ministry of Culture's football system team, before being named by the Ministry to manage the National Team. His Patrons' assistants are joined with him. Arzhur Janquin is now the most experienced National Team coach in the Dominion, as he has returned for his second stint for the Dragoons. He worked under Andreit Jugleeur at a previous Copa Rushmori, and as the entire Patrons coaching staff has shifted to the National Team, as has Janquin. Pereg Couvreeur is a hot coaching prospect that several clubs wanted to interview for jobs, but the Ministry of Culture prevented him from doing so.

If its the National Team on the pitch, its Laurens Desainctvictori in goal. It is highly unlikely that de Maromme and le Duc will see any play, but a roster has to have three keepers, and you just never know.
1 Laurens Desainctvictori, GK, age 28 (Dursten Easterners (Xanneria))
12 Gervaise de Maromme, GK, age 26 (Patrons)
24 Olliuier le Duc, GK, age 24 (Myrrh-Streamer)

Defenders
Margas and du Bourc-la-Reyne remain steadfast in the back for the National Team. A' l'Espee find himself the oldest player on the roster, so must bring a veteran presense on the bench. They're joined by now B-Division defender Daniel de Bailleul, who is getting a real opportunity to claim a spot in next year's World Cup squad.
2 Gwion du Bourc-la-Reyne, LB, age 28 (de la Charite)
3 Lunen Margas, RB, age 24 (Occident)
14 Daniel de Bailleul, LB, age 24 (Celeritas)
15 Pius A' l'Espee, RB, age 31 (Aris)

Sweepers
Sweeper is the key position in any Oberour side. Gilduin Roux hoped Josselyn Pessiere, his sweeper and captain with Patrons, would return to the national side, but he's begged off international work. Joining Marzhin Petit as a starter will be Drev Brebeuf, the long standing understudy at the national level.
10 Marzhin Petit, SW, age 26 (Fleuriot)
11 Drev Brebeuf, SW, age 27 (Hibernus)
22 Annaneg Chaumeeur, SW, age 28 (de la Charite)
23 Deklan Charpentier, SW, age 26 (Genulca)

Midfielders
The National Team needs to determine who the new left and right midfielders will be. Getting the first crack at it will be Gurguy Durerie and Peterne de Courbueil. Also du Contant de la Mollette and Gaspard may have chances to claim the starting spot. Pellier will serve as traffic control for the midfield.
5 Gurguy Durerie, LM, age 25 (dit de Compiengne)
6 Peterne de Courbueil, RM, age 23 (Patrons)
4 Jerian Pellier, CM, age 29 (Invicta)
17 Thommas du Contant de la Mollette, LM, age 25 (Cyrene Bay)
18 Brevalan Gaspard, RM, age 29 (Bourne River (Ethane))
16 Pierres Branon, CM, age 28 (Patrons)

Forwards
If the Dragoons are going to go anywhere in the Copa, they will have to score a lot of goals. Pique-Pain, l'Ermite, and Odierne are more than capable of doing so, and the backups can easily fill in. Interestingly manager Roux will experiement with Nycollas Mauranghas as a winger to keep the free-scoring Bele as a striker.
7 Eneour Pique-Pain, LW, age 25 (Patrons)
8 Ruran l'Ermite, RW, age 26 (Regium Immortal)
9 Kerrian Odierne, ST, age 30, Captain (Cyrene Bay)
19 Denig Regnault, LW, age 26 (Regium Immortal)
20 Nycollas Mauranghas, RW, age 23 (Regium United)
21 Taran Bele, ST, age 23 (Invicta)

NEPHARA
World Ranking:
4th
Preferred Formation: 4-4-2
Secondary Formation: 4-3-3
Style Modifier: 0
Home Stadium: The Farham Arena in Sabrefell is reserved for the biggest games, but Nephara is a large enough country that it spreads its matches across the nation.
Kit Supplier: ediraf
Nickname: The Cormorants

Daniella Strauss has preceded over two World Cup campaigns, following up Nephara's worst ever performance with, statistically, its best. So, God knows what to expect from them this Copa. Still, that one brilliant year appears to have lifted the shackles from what looked a systematically jaded, underachieving outfit. Maybe the good Nephara, the one that wins a shitload of trophies, is ready to come out to play for the first time in two decades.

Overall Record
461 wins - 82 draws - 115 losses
1493 scored - 773 conceded

Copa Rushmori 30
5 Campionati Esportiva - 6, 8, 10, 15 and 18
Only the second nation in history to achieve the 'Triple Crown' of WCC titles - represented by three stars on the crest.

Tactics
Image
As always, the Cormorants play hard and physical on the defensive and quick, broad and ruthless on the attack, especially loving to absorb pressure and hit on the break. Set pieces are also something of a specialty. They usually press hard and try and wear out the opponent, but are willing to sit back if they need to preserve a lead. The fullbacks are expected to overlap with their wingers and provide much of the team's width. The strikers - mostly, anyway - are all very physical and very capable of finishing, pressing high as the first defenders but also striving to get on the end of chances and to finish what the midfield starts. Nepharim play rough, some might even say dirty - but at least it's always honest, and outright cheating isn't tolerated culturally. Well, not unless it wins a REALLY important match.

The Godhead
For home matches, and during international tournaments, Nephara wheels out the 'Godhead', a giant boulder with an eerie resemblance to Gethin Ramsey, first manager of the Cormorants in the modern era and by now long dead. Nepharim have a superstitious streak, and while nobody's saying it is, in fact, the mystic reincarnation of their most iconic leader, nobody's quite not saying it, either. The Godhead is traditionally 'walked' to the stadium by Nepharim ultras using an intricate series of ropes, and often a flare is wedged into its 'mouth' to simulate a smoking cigar.

Staff
Manager - Daniella Strauss - Age 49
Assistant Manager - Monica Brightwater - Age 61
A former striker, Strauss has never done it at a truly big club - but then, the obvious candidates tend to fail for Nephara. Strauss turned a terrible Corvette side into a credible Premiership outfit for a time, and started to revitalise Southfell United before the Cormorants came calling. Unusually for Nepharim, she likes to keep ahold of the ball, but likes to play quick, aggressive football, with a high line choking the opposition. Monica Brightwater has experienced the Peter Principle first-hand, having managed Treason and Eastweald and failed at both. Even so, she offers a steady hand at the tiller to help Strauss implement her philosophy.

Goalkeepers
Core
1 - GK - Hesterine Mercator (Image Eastweald) - Age 29 - 48 caps, 22 clean sheets
Narrow-shouldered and rather horse-faced, Mercator carries the hopes of Nephara's future. She's outspoken on and off the pitch, unafraid to give referees and defenders alike a piece of her mind. A sharp, acrobatic shot-stopper, a little weak in the air.

12 - GK - Acatha Feldman (Image AFC Corvistone) - Age 29 - Uncapped
Amazing the effect a year can have on a career. Feldman was quietly accepted to be too good to rot in the second tier, got plucked out by the Crows and was everpresent as they fought their way to the top four for the first time in their history. A brilliantly agile shot-stopper, good with her feet in a pinch.

20 - GK - Fasolt Senninger (Image Creed United) - Age 25 - 4 caps, 1 clean sheet
Another former Stags backup who had to leave for fresh air, Senninger combines the physique of a shaved bear with balletic reflexes. An excellent, graceful shot-stopper, but lacking in the finer things.

Defenders
2 - RB - Rovena Stride (Image AFC Treason) - Age 22 - 11 caps, 1 goal
Stride's surname is apt. She's fast; very fast. She's still raw, and still occasionally slips up in her duties, but she tries to just do the simple things. Just, does all of them at once, racing upfield for overlapping runs to lash in raking low crosses, before tracking back at full speed to put in a crunching sliding tackle.

3 - LB - Marcin Close (Image Brinemouth, c) - Age 28 - 72 caps, 2 goals
An athletic fullback who has boundless energy, constantly chasing up the flank and tracking back diligently, a quiet and unremarkable professional of the pitch. With a maturity belying his years, Close just does what is needed. But perhaps that's reductive. One doesn't achieve what he has without the ability to change a game with the right tackle, or the right cross; Close has the pace to follow one up with the other.

5 - CB - Roxelana Thorn (Image Revolutionaries) - Age 26 - 65 caps, 1 goal
Tall, decisive and muscular, Thorn throws herself fearlessly into any challenge to keep the ball out of her net. The art of defending - the joy of defending - is not lost, not as long as Thorn is here. She has grown into a truly world-class defender.

6 - CB - Ilyana Brosch (Image Brinemouth) - Age 27 - 41 caps, 2 goals
A tall, grave figure, with a dense web of tattoos. Brosch doesn't really get angry. She just stares. It's worse, somehow. She's an uncompromising defender who sticks tight to her task, and is growing increasingly confident in possession.

18 - RB - Valeri Longship (Image Crisisbless) - Age 26 - 24 caps
Longship's small, unassuming body is inked almost head to toe. A troubled child whose apprenticeship at Morningstar allegedly included bribes from the club to get her a Year 10 certificate, Longship's anger flares up on the field not infrequently. But she's an excellent fullback, particularly on the defensive, forceful in the tackle and never out of position.

19 - LB - Sander Katarec (Image Starling) - Age 26 - 20 caps
A coltish, attacking fullback, Katarec excels at dealing damage down the left. Intelligent enough to find the right channels for a run or a pass, Katarec can deal serious damage, and he's sharp enough defensively to cover himself.

22 - CB - Gabriel Lockheed (Image AFC Treason) - Age 25 - 10 caps, 1 goal
Lockheed is a powerhouse, someone who was on no lists of future greats until injuries at the Stags thrust him into the firing line and he stood up flawlessly to the task. He combines physicality with intelligence and no small mastery of the dark arts.

Midfielders
4 - HM - Tawny Shone (Image Sabrefell Moths) - Age 26 - 60 caps, 6 goals
A true street-scrapper, from the hard part of Sabrefell. That reflects in her play, uncompromising and full-throttle despite her relatively small size, scampering around and committing niggling fouls.and sneaky ankle-taps. She's far more than a destroyer, though, and that becomes clear the moment she glides onto the ball and picks out a perfect pass from range.

7 - RM - Marica Kuepper (Image Jungle Strike) - Age 26 - 34 caps, 10 goals
Nepharim wingers do not generally have a reputation for flair - nevertheless, here the mercurial Marica Kuepper is, combining the traditional lightning pace, general bittiness and ability to handle herself in a scrap with the... let's be honest, arrogance required to really like humiliating her markers.

8 - CM - Malachi Chalk (Image Falourr) - Age 27 - 32 caps, 6 goals
Make no mistake, Chalk can handle himself in a scrap. He won't start one, but he'll finish one. He's assertive and confident in possession, but more efficient than flashy. His driving runs into the box cause havoc, and he'll be just as decisive at the other end, a true box-to-box man.

11 - LM - Rowena Strongbow (Image Directus) - Age 31 - 135 caps, 45 goals
A powerful, old-school Nepharim winger who burst onto the scene a while back and has impressed everyone for club and country. She's got it all - pace, power, professionalism, and pfinal ball. Surely one of the world's best players, having never taken a step back in her career. The first woman to ply her trade in Eura's leagues, she never looked back.

13 - RM - Monako Saroszi (Image Ulsa) - Age 28 - 73 caps, 19 goals
A fearless, driving winger, unafraid to get their hands dirty to get back the ball. They exude a quiet confidence that manifests itself on the pitch as flashy, decisive moves, and they're unafraid to take on a shot themselves. Their red card was the catalyst for everything going wrong last cycle. They have some redemption ahead.

15 - HM - Mercurio Kastriot (Image Crisisbless) - Age 25 - Uncapped
While Kastriot is a boxy, scrappy bruiser of a man, he's known as one of the Premiership's most progressive, oddly elegant defensive midfielders in possession. He will use any and all tricks to stop the opponent dead in their tracks, and knows just about every way to kill a game.

16 - LM - Morena Deventer (Image Brinemouth) - Age 25 - 31 caps, 11 goals
Deventer's got a real sense of mischief about her. She's a trouble-maker, at least on the pitch. Maybe a little off it. But her impish goblin grin conceals a brilliant football intelligence, which brings the best from her considerable technique and pace. Somewhat lightweight, and has a slight tendency to overthink things at this stage.

21 - AM - Chimera Moxham (Image Crawford City FC) - Age 27 - 78 caps, 33 goals
Aren't playmakers meant to be classy? Moxham isn't. She's arrogant, but not in an elegant way, she just always believes she knows the right thing to do, on and off the pitch. Perhaps annoyingly, she's usually right. Decision-making can be a bit flaky, but she has the pace, the eye for goal and even the defensive workrate to make up for it.

Forwards
9 - ST - Kurtis Bastable (Image Ulsa) - Age 25 - 39 caps, 23 goals
A sturdy figure with a low centre of gravity, immense strength and resilience, a deceptive change of pace and an unerring eye for goal, Bastable has emerged as the natural successor to Estrella Hawke, though he's less versatile in his skillset and better with the ball at his feet.

10 - ST - Aristide Metzger (Image AFC Treason) - Age 28 - 56 caps, 27 goals
Metzger has had to be patient, sticking with his hometown club, but has steadily been able to force his foot in the door as Roddy Fraser aged. And, no, he isn't nearly as clinical a goalscorer... yet. He's an all-action forward, with no setting to dial down the tempo. Plays hard and fast, and prefers power over placement.

14 - ST - Kurtis Laiota (Image Crisisbless) - Age 28 - 9 caps, 3 goals
Laiota is a thug, bluntly, and an unapologetic one at that. He's never happier than when sent to wade into melee with some muscular defenders and wrestle them out of formation. He's vicious, dirty and spiteful. He occasionally scores goals, too, but those are a bonus as much as anything.

17 - ST - Voska Avetisyan (Image Cornellians) - Age 22 - Uncapped
This... this is a sneaky one. Avetisyan's never been to mainland Nephara in her life. But like many Iskandrians, there's mainlander blood somewhere, and it's easy to get dual citizenship. And it's amazing how quickly you can get papers if you're a tall, powerful battering ram of a striker.

23 - ST - Konrad Lovelace (Image Starling) - Age 23 - 8 caps, 2 goals
'The new Estrella Hawke', according to excitable headlines that don't pay attention to anything that matters. They're both from Starling, they're both strikers, they're both athletic, they're both good. Thus far, Lovelace lacks a real dimension besides blistering pace, football intelligence and a ruthless finish - and also lacks a right boot. But he can still do the damage.

Catheline Isbister's face was about to be everywhere. Handily, she had a good face. Smooth-jawed, sharp-cheeked, somewhat aquiline profile. Like most Liberal Alliance politicians - like the party herself - she was relatively young, just 36. She filled out her sky blue dress shirt favourably, rolled-up sleeves revealing a snaking vine tattoo down her right arm, a serpentine pendant around her neck.
She had the distinction of representing the Macambre River region, in the capacity of their CRC representative. A region that had recently seen the capital city of Corvistone slammed down across it, in a logistically and politically expedient location between the feuding cities of Sabrefell and Treason. It had grown dramatically over the past few years thanks to an influx of refugees on the 'Indigo Visa', a very generous package promising accelerated citizenship, early access to benefits such as the UBI and, most of all, housing paid for by the government. Housing in Corvistone. They could move out, if they wanted to start paying bills again; most people who had lost everything did not.
The result was a capital city that had sprawled to nearly a million in a very short space of time with a very large amount of money sunk into the project, and those people coming from all areas of the world. Many were northern Eurans; one suburb just north of the river had even officially been called New Oakstone. Optimistic, but it had been allowed. The sooner these people felt at home, and the longer they stayed, the better for Nephara.
And after the strife in Falkyr, more than a few were Falconians.

It had been four years since the rift. Isbister didn't pretend to understand. She just knew what most people knew - there had been some kind of Incident, massive reserves of foreign aid had been shifted to feed and clothe the fallout, the cities were renovated. But the Falconian refugees in Corvistone had brought stories from home, or tried to bring back family with them with stories of their own. None of them were good.
She got poked by an alderman of their enclave to go put pressure on... someone. She'd obliged. Pulled some strings, and a few months later one of the grave-faced young women from NSIA, the Nepharim Security Intelligence Agency, had a report on her desk.
It made for grim reading. As soon as the immediate crisis had been over, the foreign aid money started to be... siphoned. Where, precisely, was unclear, but it sure as hell wasn't to the glorified ghettoes that were now the Falconian cities, chronically overtaxed, undersupplied and heavily guarded. All Nepharim knew you had to be able to get on your feet, just for a moment, to pull off a good rebellion. This just felt like a bad situation spiralling, worse and worse, until the moment someone decided to do something.
She'd thanked the NSIA woman and started to draft up her speech. Now she was here, in Orean, taking the stand to take her stand.
This would be remembered.

"Honourable members of the Common Rushmori Community, I come to you with a call to arms. I come because mere miles away, across the border, the depraved monarchy of Falkyr--"
There were some objections from the crown-loving lot around the chamber. She ignored them. "-- the depraved monarchy, and their absolute tyrant, have been insulting our intelligence for years. A tragedy within their borders was rightfully answered by all the aid their fellow Rushmori could conjure. The pipeline remains open, on full flow, four years after the fact. But where, one asks, is this money going? For perhaps a year it went where it was needed, but past that point, the Falconian refugees have been shepherded into shanty towns, parodies of the cities they once lived in. Either the Stuhlbettler are truly incompetent to the point where this is the best of their ability, or they are lining their pockets off our generosity."
Stuhlbettler was an old term, one with history. It was usually translated as 'kneelers' but literally translated to 'chair-beggars', those who supplicated themselves to a throne. A couple years ago in Brenecia the conservatives officially recognised it as a slur. She held court for forty-one minutes, in all. There were charts. There was ample proof. There was vitriol, but it had been well-earned.
She ended strong. "These are civilised times. We no longer liberate nations through fire and steel, save as a terrible last resort. However, the dictatorship has grown fat on our coin for long enough, and not solely on skimming off the foreign aid. We still retain the power to force Falkyr to submit through severe economic sanctions, until such a time as an independent third-party has adjudged them to have fulfilled their needs to the Falconians. Our path is clear."

Unfortunately, nothing in politics happens quickly. It was probably for the best that a member of the CRC couldn't just talk shit about a foreign power for an hour and then suddenly click their fingers and the money was gone. What it signified was global scrutiny, and not even from that far away; Orean was a hop, skip and a jump away. Whether or not the CRC voted to lay down economic sanctions, the Falconians were now a talking point.
So was the relationship between Nephara and Falkyr. It had never been warm, and was never going to be warm so long as the system of monarchy that Nepharim found so outrageous and had taken such joy in dismantling remained alive and well in Falkyr. Some Nepharim measures to suppress the monarchy, symbolic though they may be, were not particularly beloved of the CRC; monarchist protesters were subject to the controversial 'natural flow of justice' laws that basically meant sufficiently fringe rallies were not given police protection, allowed to be beaten to a pulp by angry locals. The argument that Big Markus from down the pub with a half-brick and ten of his mates had single-handedly kept the Corvidae from their most aesthetic match did not fly particularly well in Orean. There was also the minor hurdle that, though capital punishment was not practiced in Nephara, the penalty for advancing the monarchist cause was officially hanging. Naturally, none of the handful of shiftless basement-dwellers who had actually been convicted of it had actually been hanged, but the legal option was there, and made the community service look really good by comparison.
Still, they certainly weren't holding shanty towns full of helpless refugees to ransom.

So of course they had to draw them in the Copa Rushmori. Of course they did.

SWENNIC FOOTBALLING ASSOCIATION CR34 ROSTER

EASTFIELD LODGE - It has been years since an international footballing team from the Southwest Eastnorth area has joined in an international sporting competition. In the many many years prior, when the nation was first established (something we will get to in future stories.) the Southwest Eastnorth Frontiersmen traveled to the far away land of Norrehaven as a goodwill gesture from the new nation towards the people of Rushmore. THere they faced tough opponents such as Saintland, the Eastern Sunrise Islands and Kern something or another. They got crushed and lost all three games. Now 30 years later we get a legit Southwest Eastnorth team in the Capo Rushmori. This team will also be hosting an uphill battle for its players as a tough slot of games that includes dignitaries of international football such as Taeshan (Which many Swennic people get confused with Atlantian Oceanic nation 95X) , Darmen, and Sargossa await the Frontiersmen.

Here are the 26 men and women of the inagural SFA Fronstiersmen team

Starting Lineup, Formation, and Tactics:

Image

The Valladar national football team is known for having its traditional 3-2-2-3 (or 3-4-3 for general reference) formation, which can turn into either a very aggressive yet non-conventional 3-2-5 for attacking or a 5-4-1 (a 3-6-1, even) when the team feel the need to enter into a defensive mode. La Nacional will always be looking to attack and retain ball possession for as long as possible, trying to score many goals in the shortest possible time and mounting an insurmountable lead for the second half of the match when players from both teams start showing signs of fatigue. This squad mostly relies on the speed of both Ronald Mickel and Arley Barrios on the wings both in attack and in defense modes, with Leonardo Rojas and Christian O'Brien playing the role of defensive midfielders that was well covered by Jonathan Bosetti and Pedro Pedretti in the past: both should be able to retreat to the defensive line with ease whenever the team lose ball possession in order to form a line of 5 defenders, thus giving rival forwards a very hard time when trying to break through the Valladar defense. Wilfried Baume, Alexandre, and Aymeric Fortin will be playing together up front, and the trio are well prepared under the premises of the typical Valladar forward: very speedy and talented, with the ability to seemingly harmless crosses into goals, create chances and score goals out of nothing, and kill defenses with speed and lethal counterattacks.

RP PERMISSIONS
Go wild, except for career-ending injuries. These guys don't have the option to go for being a Cyborg, you know.

Let me tell you a little story about a place that isn't on a map. That's not exactly something new, plenty of places out there aren't on a map, you need to rely on proper internet trackers and whatnot just to find them. For whatever reason, the map of Rushmore simply doesn't bother to feature a republic that you can find in the east, they fly a white flag with a man holding a rapier on his hand. And it makes sense, to be fair.

The Merchant Republic of Gran Torche de Saint-Michel, more commonly known as the Merchant Republic (for members of the Hinodejin sphere of influence) or Saint-Michel (for members of the Rushmori community) is actually a 500-year old nation that, due to its' isolationist nature, only recently chose to open up. Reportedly, the populace was very aware of Rushmori culture, having worked as merchants during conflicts in the past without claiming any sort of relation to the land they're from but they do have some sort of national culture, based after its' origin as a designated paradise ran by a sir Raphael de Sorel until his passing led to the people living there taking up serving as merchants of war for a living, although that would also lead to the creation of a respectable bourgeois sector.

Life in the nation is simple: you serve in the national armed forces while also finding something to do for a living. Political matters are handled by a president and a Helpers' Council, all of which are elected from the group of officers currently living in the nation. Vacations, regardless of the level, are usually given in different months to people, thus never truly allowing the existence of some sort of general break. Arts of all sorts are allowed, as are sports, although their only major league (football) is still semi-professional. Their performance in international football is somewhat pitiful: they only played three games so far and have yet to win a match of football in the international scene. Their best result was holding World Cup regulars Saintland to a nil-nil draw in Pasarga at the twenty-third edition of the Copa Rushmori which happened in between a two-one loss to one-time World Cup champions Cassadaigua and their worst defeat, a five-nil loss to Nephara.

After those matches, Alaric Elrichssen managed to get the nod from the Council and the President to send a solid group of young Saint-Michel players to try and learn their craft at the Hinodejin Empire, playing at their youth league system. The federation also allowed the creations of Akademies where the youth could learn the basics and even some more advanced moves before trying out for either the local league or the Hinodejin system. With that in mind, the Saint-Michel team for this edition of the tournament is... young.

Way younger than it should be, in all honesty.

THE ASKARI UNION
Preferred Formation:
4-2-3-1
Style Modifier: 1.25
Playstyle: The long spectre of Skorjiball has left a mark in a nation now trying to play more aggressive, fast-paced, energetic style.
Kit Supplier: Cloaker
Captain: Lux Siravoi
Nickname: la Delfenoj

Having survived the whirlwind of S K O R J I B A L L, the financial implosion of their league (which limps on still, just, without room for foreign players) and three political coups in short succession, the Askari belatedly limp on to new pastures. Having achieved mediocre results in the past at the regional level, it's, well, unlikely that can maintain.

Without foreign players or investment, the Legaskari is a shadow of its former self, which was in its heyday... not very good. All the best Askari players are abroad, and those who aren't yet, aspire to. There have been extensive recent overhauls, however, as the prior 'golden' generation has simply aged out.

Supplied by a mostly curious Cloaker, of Nephara. Capitalist scum they might be, but they have far more modern technology.

I Give My Opponent Permission To:

=================================

Tactics
Image
First-choice lineup.
The Askari have gained in confidence now, and are now able to play to their strengths. The Askari themselves tend to be smallish and more technically gifted than athletic, but a newfound emphasis on 'getting it up there' has taken over, and big lads from Eura have stabilised the spine of the team. Prior Askari sides have been more defensively focused and with an emphasis on pace, but Oslograd had taken to repeatedly yelling "THE BALL IS ROUND" at athletically-oriented plays in training, and it stuck.

Staff
Manager: Amelie Pernaud - Age 51
Asst. Manager: Pepin Espinosa - Age 46

As manager of Dinamo Sainati, Pernaud oversaw a period of prosperity, and has dominated the game after the Withdrawal. She's the only choice for the job.

Goalkeepers
1 - GK - Dramane Caragin - Age 29 - FC Elan
12 - GK - Dorothea Soumare - Age 22 - Aznavour OSC
18 - GK - Isolde Gaetjen - Age 30 - Duredain Barricade

While Caragin is a decent enough goalkeeper, he's... he's... well, he's from the Legaskari, they all are.

Defenders
2 - RB - Cygnet Valeri - Age 30 - Walston Brook Albion (EFL)
3 - LB - Eloisa Primavera - Age 32 - Everfree Forest HC (EQS)
4 - CB - Bixente Lalonde - Age 29 - Utica United (OSR)
5 - CB - Joseph Cameron - Age 32 - Brookford Otters (NPH)
13 - LB - Bella Vesper - Age 20 - Hussards
17 - RB - Ettore Bajardi - Age 28 - FC Elan
19 - CB - Francisca Barone - Age 29 - SSC Honneur

The Askari have four good defenders; quick overlapping fullbacks in Valeri and Primavera, one defensive titan in the towering centre-half Cameron, and a deft, confident ball-player in Lalonde. The domestics are a long way down. At best, the backup fullbacks can hope to be rotated in off the bench in lost-cause defeats.

Midfielders
6 - HM - Lux Siravoi (c) - Age 31 - New Cloudsdale Colonists (NCL)
8 - CAM - Susaeta Etxeita - Age 31 - Q-Bee Honeyame (HIN)
10 - RAM - Ravanna Ballarin - Age 27 - Hwoarang Seidoshi (HIN)
11 - LAM - Aurora Solignac - Age 30 - Fevelo Colony (COS)
14 - CM - Lethe Cirvante - Age 31 - Keenan Athletic (COS)
15 - CAM - Laguna Santutxu - Age 23 - Cartagena Desert Foxes (OSR)
16 - CM - Alessa Leonard - Age 29 - Aznavour OSC
20 - LAM - Marciano Improta - Age 28 - AC Sainati
22 - RAM - Leo Kamara - Age 20 - AC Sainati
23 - HM - Ascol Vivaldi - Age 26 - Aznavour OSC

By a distance the best area in the Askari squad. Siravoi, Cirvante and Etxeita provide an experienced foreign-based core in the early sunset of their careers, with Solignac perhaps the star of the team on the left wing. On the right, Ballarin might be the star; her best asset is her pace, and her directness can gash teams. Little can be expected from the substitutes, though there's some raw talent there.

Forwards
7 - ST - Sylvain Croxier - Age 21 - Dinamo Sainati
9 - ST - Sierra Aurtenetxe - Age 33 - Alnio (CMT)
21 - ST - Persephone Vigny - Age 26 - Hussards

Aurtenetxe's enjoying an Indian summer back in her old stomping grounds of Alnio, and is coming into electrifying form at the perfect time from a Delfenoj perspective. She's a sly poacher first and foremost, with movement clever rather than fast. Certainly at this age. Croxier shows promise and the ability to throw a large body around. Vigny... well, Vigny has pace, and that's it.

"Small groups, big implications, not a lot of room for error this tournament now is there?"

"Nay, you falter but a little and you are risking your entire campaign being over before you ever really got started, bit of a pressure cooker of a situation it does provide. It is these sorts of circumstances that you get to see the true mettle as well as the depth of national teams, where the stakes are high and the games are coming at you thick and fast, with a game nearly every third day. What team has that steel in their belly and the depth in the squad to hold firm against such challenges?"

"Big test for the Wanderers, got a real tough draw to get both Schottia as well as the recently crowned World Cup Champions in the form of Cassadaigua. Good way to see where the head is at for a lot of these players, with a lot of the squad being the same bunch that failed to deliver in the Qualifiers but then were able to get their act together for a real show of dominance the Cup of Harmony. Oberour ar Moro could be the wild card, no one really is favoring them to crack into the top two but the games against them will be just as instrumental in deciding who is going to be pressing on through from the group as much as the matches among the favored three from our draw."

"I am not sure how I am feeling about the Wanderers' having an opening match bye, means they will not get to set the pace that the rest of the group will have to follow but will instead have to follow the pace of whoever does get out of those starting blocks in a good position. Though I suppose I would rather have the rest of the tournament to go about the business that needing be done that have it in the middle like the squad did during the Qualifiers. Any schedule with bye days for members of the group does always present a challenge and everyone does have to deal with it, so I guess it is a bit of a moot point."

"Aye, everybody be having to deal with what the schedule makers provide them, simple as that. Wanderers' going to have to catch up with the rest of the group but work will be there regardless of whether you have it on the first or the second day, still needing be done. With all that said, got to favor the Wanderers' in the Copa Rushmori, it has been something of a soothing salve for the side in the past, even when their World Cup campaigns have not been exactly the stuff to write home about. While it might just be a regional, something inferior in a fews eyes, it does mean a lot to those in the dual islands and the squad knows that, knows that Pasarga was among the three founders of the competition. Perhaps that is why we have such good fortune and why we take it a bit more seriously, with the history we do have in this tournament. As for this edition, it will be a tricky one, but I think it is the WCC champs of both tournaments who will find their way out, leaving Schottia the odd squad out at the end of the group stage."

Květoslava Wojewódzki grunted as she slipped another crate off the boat and onto the pier. It was a struggle to keep her balance--it'd been raining all night, good for cover but bad for manual labor--and accidentally chucking some supplies into the sea wouldn't help anyone. A burly Quebecois fellow snatched up the crate and lugged it off to the truck depot; she'd wondered a couple of times if she should ask his name, but came around to that being a liability more than anything else. They were the grunts of the plan; there'd never be any glory or recognition, and better off not having the info to divulge to a potential captor.

Another trip into the underbelly of the ship; a sleek clipper, itself of Quebecois make, though flying just about any other flag at a given point. They'd came in today under Sargossa's colors, after the brief stop-off at the uninhabited frozen waste of an island the barges drop their load and the smugglers divvy it up. On the way she passed the other Falconian on board going the other way, crate in hand. He was an older gentleman, one who'd lived in Umber for some fifty years before the rift. Květi had been just sixteen at the time, barely having seen a third of Nestingham before losing the chance to see any more. All hands are on deck for unloading, but once they're through she'd stay behind to watch the ship while her countryman went with the trucks and ensured everything was distributed properly.

She didn't see the old man on her way back out, which was curious. They'd kept a steady pace for nearly half the load. The Quebecois wasn't waiting on their pier, either. She plopped the crate down and took a good hard look into the night, but it was just too bleak and drenched to make anything out. Shit. Well, I can't leave, she thought, I'm the last one on the ship. If she squinted a little harder the barest outlines of the city's walls were visible--far higher than they'd ever looked on the TV when she was a kid. But those walls had been built to keep something out.

“This ain’t a time to be daydreamin’, lass.”

Květ turned with a start. “Where did you go?”

The old man sidestepped the crate and clambered aboard. “Saw some commotion downwind. Wanted to make sure things were going smoothly, and a guard had indeed wandered by. We shot the breeze and he left without even remembering what he was patrolling for.”

“Well, that’s… good, I guess. Thanks for keeping an eye out.”

“Just doin’ my part. All we can do.” They stood in silence for a moment, both glancing down the pier where the Quebecois was trudging his way back. “...you taking the next boat to Nestingham? Heard a shipment was planned in a few days.”

“Aye, I talked with command about it. It’ll be a little awkward because the guards there pay a bit more attention, and I’ve got the sort of name that calls me out as Falconian, but it should still be fine.”

“I know your family will be thrilled to see you again. But please, be careful.” Before she could even so much as nod, he had disappeared below deck to get the chain running again.

TEAM CASSADAIGUA- Copa Rushmori 34

Coach-Stephanie Sweeney (57)- 7th Copa Rushmori

Starters in Green
Subs in Blue
Reserves in Red

Goalkeepers:
#40- Tiffany Nelson (25)- Reserve WC 83 & 84, Starter DBC 44
#41- Danielle Cotter (21)- Starter DBC 47
#45- Amanda Norris (26)- International Debut

It is customary for CASE (Cassadagan Association for Soccer Excellence) to use the Copa Rushmori as an evaluation for fringe starters to the World Cup side, or look at other talent in the nation. This is especially true here with the goalkeepers.

Defenders:
#22- Lupe Enriquez (30)- Starter in WC 81-84, DBC 41, CR 29-31, Starter & Captain DBC 42, Sub WC 79 & 80
#3- Brooke Sutter (26)- Starter & Captain DBC 44, Starter WC 84, SWC 6, DBC 43, Reserve CR 31, WC 82 & 83
#29- Matthew Donegal (28)- Starter WC 84, Sub WC 82 & 83, Reserve WC 81, Starter DBC 43, BPC
#24- Kimberly Carson (26)- Starter WC 84, DBC 43

#28- Katie Standish (22)- Reserve DBC 44 & WC 84
#42- Michelle Graves (22)- Starter DBC 47

#43- Amanda Clayton (21)- Starter DBC 47
#39- Sierra Swift (21)- Starter DBC 47

The core of the World Cup roster on the back end is still relatively young at this point, so the need to evaluate alternate options at this position is less. Therefore, more World Cup regulars are seen here

Midfield:
#9- Zack Pierce (28)- Starter WC 81-84, BPC, DBC 42, Reserve WC 80 ** CAPTAIN **
#16- Meghan Wolcott (24)- Starter WC 84, DBC 44
#19- Preston Newfeld (23)- Sub WC 84, Starter DBC 44
#32- Courtney Graham (22)- Reserve WC 84

#34- Danielle Porter (21)- Reserve WC 84
#44- Sarah Giles (21)- Starter DBC 47

#46- Brendan Nielsson (27)- International Debut
#47- Cheryl Zeccola (22)- Starter DBC 47

Zack Pierce will become the first male captain of any international soccer team in Cassadaigua. He and Wolcott are the ones to watch, but Preston Newfeld is a probable starter in the World Cup as well.

Forwards:
#27- Madison McClain (22)- Sub WC 84
#26- Eddie Malone (29)- Sub WC 81 & 84, Reserve WC 82, Starter BPC

#38- Taylor Russo (22)- Reserve WC 84
#36- Kelsey Whitman (22)- Starter DBC 47

#48- Loreen Hazen (21)- Sub DBC 47)
#49- Kierstan O’Bryan (25)- International Debut

Not a lot of experience with this group, as you can see. There is some question as to who will the role vacated by Hannah Ranucci, who will not be back for WC 85. McClain is a player that coach Sweeney would like to see graduate into the role, but that is not guaranteed. Expect Russo and Whitman to get significant playing time as well.

What the hell?
By Chelsea Dufresne, Concord Heights Times

Group draws can make or break a team’s campaign before it starts. Sometimes, you will be in an easy group, and sometimes you will be in Group of Death. Then, there are times you can be in the Group of Brutal Torture. That can sum up Cassadaigua’s group for Copa Rushmori 34. They are ranked 8th in the competition, as the team always seems to underachieve a little at the regional level because they use it as an evaluation process for fringe players to the World Cup roster, then going for every game like it means the World. They are the third seed, along with #1 Pasarga and #6 Schottia. With 20 teams, how does the #8 ranked team become a pot three team? When the host, ranked #14, puts themselves in pot 1. This has greatly skewed the group draw, making Group A comically easy in comparison to Group C. Now, don’t misinterpret my saying that as criticizing the hosts as putting themselves in pot 1. That is customary for this tournament. However, in Copa Rushmori 30, Cassadaigua, ranked #15 then as the host, we put ourselves in the pot we belonged in, which was pot three. So, while it is common, it doesn't have to be the case.

I asked manager Stephanie Sweeney about that, and she told me, “You can’t worry to much about that. I don’t really like how both Group A and Group C look. I find it pretty disappointing, but you can also rise to the challenge. I hope that this team will do that.” Hopefully, they will. The roster itself is a hodgepodge of returning World Cup players and players aspiring to jump into significant roles for the next World Cup. The tough games start right away, too. At least they’ll get a bye on matchday 3 after dealing with Schottia and Pasarga to kick it off.

Eastfield Lodge Roster for Copa Rushmori 34

Image

Demonym: Eastfielder

Eastfield Lodge is a pretty glorious nation, somewhat situated in Northern Rushmore - in reality, there's a very small island (acting as a transport hub) which hosts a portal linking the NSverse to a small bubble universe, wherein the rest of the Imperial Commonwealth is located (barring a couple of nations, but they’re linked up in other ways). The IC part describes the fact that there are several empires contained within one superstructure – divisions which are somewhat reflected in the convoluted league structure.

Those of you who know this nation well however will wonder what has happened to the Whoniverse (the universe of Doctor Who, the TV programme). Don’t worry, I will (hopefully) RP what went on. To those who don’t know, this nation used be in the NSverse, but due to the acts of a lone madman from The Holy Empire (mad, or pitiful, the legends are a bit shaky), Eastfield Lodge almost vanished from existence, leaving behind a small island (now in Rushmore), attached to a portal connecting here to the Whoniverse. Things happened, the portal became unstable, and we had to form a bubble universe, and as a result, the resulting temporal shockwave both wiped out all electronic records, and did some weird stuff to people’s ages (hence why some names in the team may seem recognisable).

Anyways, because of the initial portal, whilst humans are the overwhelming majority of the populace here, don't be surprised to find several other races and much advanced technology here. Some more historical information can be found here, in lieu of a factbook (NB: a lot of the information there is inaccurate though, TG me for clarification).

Back to the nation itself, Eastfield Lodge is probably the best place to live in the entirety of Rushmore, according to the WA at any rate. Amongst the accolades heaped upon are: Most Compassionate Citizens, Most Beautiful Environments, Happiest Citizens, Most Dedicated Public Healthcare, Healthiest Citizens, Least Corrupt Government, Longest Average Lifespan, Lowest Crime Rates, Nicest Citizens, Largest Public Transportation Department, Safest, Smartest Citizens, Most Popular Tourist Destinations, Best Weather and Largest Welfare Programs. Also of note is the fact that, in a region containing Saintland, Eastfield Lodge is the Most Devout nation, with Islam being the national religion, and that we have the Highest Police Ratios, so do not be alarmed by the sheer number of police officers.
Lodger City Memorial Stadium
Location: New Lodger City
Capacity: 150,000
Description: The home of Eastfielder football, the stadium was built on the ruins of the old capital of Eastfield Lodge, Lodger City, which was flattened in a double disaster (severe floods from dams bursting and an explosion from an unknown source, killing much of the population of the city and rendering the city useless. Administrative functions were transferred over to Lodgertia, the city began to be rebuilt, and it was decided that this stadium would be one of the monuments erected in place. The inside walls contains inscriptions of the names of all the dead – just under 9 million. The stadium used to play host to the two classic giants of EL football – RGS Athletic and VLC FC - until both had their new stadiums finished; it is now only used for internationals and cup matches.

Parliament Stadium
Location: Lodgertia
Capacity: 80,000
Description: Formerly the second largest stadium in Eastfield Lodge (until King Iqbal II and Vorgan Park were completed), behind the Memorial Stadium in New Lodger City, it was built in the centre of Lodgertia, the capital of Eastfield Lodge, and the Imperial Commonwealth. It was named due to the fact that the Parliament is based just a few hundred metres down the road; in fact, the original stadium was actually joined to the Parliament building, as an area where MPs could watch or even engage in sport with the public, as well as being a designated protest site. However, with Lodgertia becoming more built up, it was decided that the stadium needed to be built up as well. It is home to Lodgertia United and Lodgertia City alongside being temporary hosts of RGS Athletic and VLC FC (when Lodger City was being rebuilt), and in the past has hosted several international matches, including the final of SBCC 27 and a group in both stages of Market Cup 4.
Manager: Jane Williamson
Age: 51. The first female player to play for the Eastfielder national team back in the day, the former RGS full back became the first big Eastfielder coach in another country, as she went and became the assistant manager for the Chromatika national team, and quite successfully, up until that nation's disappearance from the world. And quite fortunately, she landed in this role after the retirement of her predecessor, although things haven't started auspiciously for her so far, opting not to ring any big changes to the team's system for her first few cycles. Very much a man manager as opposed to an astute tactician.

Assistant Manager: Robert Andrews
Age: 51. The former national team striker, who had over a century of international appearances to his name during his career, was specifically recruited by the previous manager, his old friend and ex-teammate Shabeen Ahmad III. This is his first major job in football since his playing retirement, but his ability to calmly analyse situations even under immense pressure has earned him some plaudits from those in the know, and as such could prove to be a vital asset to the national team going forward.

Formation: 3-3-3-1
Image

It's a new look defensive formation for Eastfield Lodge now, with the team moving to three at the back, but still retaining the rotating attack system - striker and three players in behind moving about to find space. The central defender of the back three has permission to advance forwards on attack, allowing the formation to switch from a 3-3-3-1 to a more balanced 4-2-3-1 or even 4-1-4-1 in attacks, whilst the wingbacks retain the same attacking freedom they had under the previous 4-1-2-3 system. In terms of goal scoring, the ST will get the bulk of the goals, with good contributions from the AM and both WFs as well. The WFs will get most of the assists, followed closely by the AMs, then the ST, DM and the wingbacks.

Captain: Tajo Carr-Ponce
Vice-Captains: Raquel Accardi, Korbin Harvey, Jennifer Farrow
Penalties: Nya Murray, Raquel Accardi, Jennifer Farrow
Corners: Raquel Accardi, Charmine Berretti, Jennifer Farrow
Free kicks – shooting: Raquel Accardi, Nya Murray, Arjean Jeremiah-Dockson
Free kicks – other: Ulima Salam, Jennifer Farrow, Raquel Accardi

RP Permissions:
Select my scorers: Y
Give out yellow cards to my players: Y (maximum five, TG me with a reason for more)
Give out red cards to my players: Y (only one more than the number given to your team, maximum of three - i.e. I get two red cards, you must have at least one)
RP injuries to my players: Y (Maximum 3, no career-ending injuries without my explicit permission – I reserve right to how long players are out; you can RP how severe it looks)
Godmod injuries: Y (within some reason)
Godmod scoring events: Y (Have fun.)
Godmod other events: Y (TG me if you're planning on killing anybody though, or anything really extreme.)

If I do RP, I will include the line-up for the next match in my RP post, along with any suspensions/injuries. If there is no line-up, look through my posts and check for current suspensions/injuries, but otherwise it’s fine. Also, if you're RP'ing any part of my match, please use the full name Eastfield Lodge at least once, it helps me find the RP.

NB: As the people of EL are extremely compassionate, and very civilised (despite what you may say about the religion), it would be uncharacteristic for the coaches/players to lose their temper, dive deliberately (jumping out of the way of bad tackles and falling awkwardly doesn't count), to be sent to the stands (if the ref is clearly very biased however...), spit, argue with the ref or fight. Players will also tend to inform the referee about mistakes/clarifications in judgement regarding throw-ins, fouls given but with no contact and goal kicks/corner kicks (plus other bouts of honesty - up to you).

"Miles the opening round bye puts you in an intriguing position to be the only team to get to see all their opponents without playing, and get to go into the first matchup without much new tape on your squad."

"I mean you can say that sure, but the fact is we're the Purple Knights. We are going to bore you to death, get some nice goals on the counter and hopefully win 1-0, or 2-0. Not like the world hasn't read the book we've written for the last century."

"Is it hard to sit back and watch Sargossa score 4 and Darmen score 5, and wonder if you have the defensive might to stop them, or the offensive power to score on them"?

"No. I believe in my guys. I have a strong set of attacking players, and an even stronger defense and Goalie. We're the best team in this group and we'll show that against Sargossa on the next matchday. No doubt in my mind."

"Sullivan Garret earns his first start in the next game, do you have any qualms about starting a 16 year old in his first national team match in perhaps the biggest matchup he could see all tournament"?

"No. I started Florian Wagner in his first game in a tougher position. I think Sully is an incredible player. He's as gifted on his right as his left, maybe he's naturally left footed and that would be an issue for many, but Sully is a gamer. There is a reason he is here. Most national teams have a naturally Right-footed player at Left-Back, they don't grow on trees as much, but I have the luxury of two nice left-backs and I am going to use them."

"Word out of camp is that Alson Figeuroa may be deployed as a Takilante in this tournament do you have any comment on that"?

"No."

"Do you think that any Tae player in particular could be up for the upcoming Galactico awards"?

"It is hard to say. Taeshan has been a team effort, but perhaps the biggest part of it has been the growth of Shiloh Morgenstern. Shiloh joined the team in my last campaign, and it was very noticeable right away what he gave us. Him Santiago, and Wilhelm brought us to the World Cup two terms ago, and I was so grateful to in my last game play at a World Cup, and score, even if we were out in the Group Stages. Shiloh, playing for a top club in the World Like Azuris may be our best shout. I think Florian and Nycolas could definitely be shouts for youth awards, but it really depends on what the voters see."

"How do you think you will fair in this Copa Rushmori? It seems like TSPN has picked you to win the whole dang thing."

"As much as I would level to be the second manager to hoist the Copa for Taeshan, I have to be humble. This is the best squad we have had in 40 years, but are we better than Nephara, better than Eura? I think we can be on our day, but we have to play perfect. This has been a team effort the last few campaigns, and hopefully it continues to be so. If the team shows up this tournament, we can win it all.?
