Tonarius disappointed but still lots to look forward to

Postby Tonarius » Fri May 14, 2010 12:05 pm

All of Tonarius was devastated after today's prestigious semi-final match against the mighty Mount Shavano. Neither team was able to score during the first 90 minutes, nor after two extra time periods.

It seems that Mount Shavano are very good when it comes to penalty shoot-outs, but at least it wasn't a shameful way for Tonarius to be eliminated. It was a great campaign and we can still look forward to getting the third place spot, which would be an honorable achievement.

Mihai Laloia, the team's captain and Chelsea veteran, was the only one to score for Tonarius in the penalty shoot-out: "We were all extremely down after the shoot-out, but then we got over it and said to ourselves we're still a top team and just got unlucky, next time we'll go all the way. Plus, we can still get third place and also do well at the World Cup afterwards!"

Filip the Great had a huge fit at the end of the match but later came back and shook the Mount Shavano head coach's hand, embarrassed.

"VIVUS TONARIUS!!!! LET'S WIN THE THIRD PLACE MATCH!!!!" is heard in the background...

Unitopolis suffered their first loss of the introduction of Fire yesterday, losing 2 - 0 tu Undeadzombie. Manager Jack Beade made no changes to the side that beat Chocolate Pencils 6 - 0 in the quarter-final and there was a real possibility that we might hand out another world-class beating. But our players were no world-class beaters. Sloppy backpasses, stupid fouls and terrible marking seemed to be the order of the day, as experienced players such as Russ McCullough and Jarrett Reveal simply stormed through the once-solid Uni defence.

Eric Aldé gave the ball away for their first, a failed clearance was blocke by Erich Kalen, who passsed to Randall Klineton, who shot and scored to make it 1 - 0 to UZ. Uniopolis tried to regain composure, but ultimately were flawed, and a dreadful offside trap gifted Erih Kalen with a free run at goal and even he didn't pass it, slotting the ball home to double UZ's lead. Every shot we took was saved by El Bailido in the Undeadzombie goals. in the end, it was a dissappointing end to a tournament that seemed to promise so much for us. Jack Beade was more angry with his team than about the result; telling us "i'd rather Undeadzombie had won the game, rather than us losing it, through sloppy play and foolish mistakes. This team is gonna have to train hard if we want to come 3rd,( and believe me we do)to beat Tonarius.

ZSN.com Top Story: Zombiee’s! Zombiee’s! Zombiee’s!

Who could’ve seen the Zombiee’s coming? Not us, for sure! They came from not thinking they would even make the playoffs, and now are in the finals, against Mount Shavano.

Mount Shavano. Is this the start of the rivalry? Very possibly. Our leaders have contacted them about a post-World Cup friendly, and we have already played them twice. We have split our two games against them, and now are facing them for the Golden Altar. This will be a great matchup, and was against all odds.

Mount Shavano started by upsetting Vijay in the round of sixteen. Then, against all odds, they held Inabi scoreless for one hundred twenty minutes, and beat them 3-0 on penalties. Finally, against Tonarius, they again had a zero to zero tie, and then beat them four to one on penalty kicks.

So basically, our offense is gonna have a tough time beating their defense, and Bailido has another chance to shine.

Oh, by the way, about that. Bailido is starting, even though Armour is finished his suspension. The reaction by Armour? Well, just, “I am very angry that Johnsom did this, but what makes me maddest is that he didn’t tell me, and I only found out about it after someone posted on HeadBook. Or maybe he Groaned on Groaner, or maybe he posted on MyRentedSpace. Hmm, I don’t remember. But I am angry that he didn’t give me a second chance, in the finals.”

Johnsom replied by saying, “Well, I did tell him actually, I was the one who Groaned it. And I think that Bailido has proven himself very capable, and will continue to shine in World Cup 51. If Armour wanted to start, he should have proven himself by defending well. Anyway, I think getting the Altar Trophy will make him happy enough.”

Bailido, in the eye of the storm, replied, “I would gladly give him my spot. I think I will let him start in the finals. NOT! I am so glad he gets a taste of what it feels like to get ripped off. He didn’t deserve to start in the first place! I should have been the starter since the beginning, and he should get used to warming up the bench!”

The Zombiee’s, who had a relatively peaceful locker room, are now dissolving. Hopefully they can pull it together before the finals, at least. They were doing quite well, and will hopefully get to win this thing.

But that isn’t the worst thing that has happened today. The worst is that Klinetob has reinjured his ankle, and will not be able to play tomorrow. He will be watching from the stands, and that has disappointed many fans expecting a high flying offense.

He injured it while climbing down the stairs in the dark. As he reached the second to last step, he thought it was the final step, and crashed down the (real) final stair. This twisted his ankle even more, and caused him great pain.

He won’t play for at least ten days now, and he is slowly recovering. Hopefully he heals quickly.

Prediction for the final: Undeadzombiee 1-1 Mount Shavano (3-2 on penalties)

KalenStinks17
I hope Kalen injures HIS ankle while walking down the stairs. I really don’t see why he is even starting!!!

WhyPickOnMe
Why? What did he do to you? He is very good, probably the best on the team!

KalenStinks17
He can’t shoot to save his life. He either profits off of Creamer’s work, or just dumps it to Creamer. He has never taken a good shot in his life, you idiot!

ZSNMod
Watch it KS17. I’m putting a warning tag on your profile. Next time will be a suspension.

KalenStinks17 (WARNED)
What about free speech? Come on.

PeaceMaker
Please, leave before you get banned, and keep this chat room kind. This is for debating sports, not calling people or players idiots. And by the way, you have to have seen him play the last nine games. He is a solid player.

And what’s wrong with passing the ball to a teammate?

KalenStinks17 (WARNED)
Well, it boosts Creamer’s stats unfairly. He shouldn’t profit off of Kalen’s play, right?

WhyPickOnMe
He doesn’t. Cramer gets in a good position, and Kalen selflessly passes it. Now, I don’t see anything wrong with that, do you?

KalenStinks17 (WARNED)
You are all giant meanies. I hope you all get banned! Losers!

ZSNMod
OK, you are suspended for a week. Please do not get on unless you want to discuss sports, not sucker punch anyone with different opinions.

Coach John Landry stood in front of the whiteboard in his typical baseball cap and t-shirt. "Good evening, boys. As you are all well aware, the last game is tonight. 'All the marbles', as they say, are in play. The Zombiees are very familiar with us at this point. So, what's the first thing we do when confronted by a opponent who knows what to expect?"

"Do something unpredictable." Isaac Flowers was an old campaigner. He knew the drill.

Landry diagrammed the events he saw in his mind on the board as he talked. "Exactly. Here's what we're going to do, for our first wrinkle. We are going to start the game in our normal 3-4-3 alignment, but on the first opportunity we will shift David forward to make a 2-4-4 and go on an all-out attack. Hopefully, this will allow us generate some offense, an area we've been lacking in for the last two games. As soon as they look to be adjusting, we transition back to the standard alignment. While we make our push, I want a lot of pressure on Bailido. If we can get him to slip up and Krum Johnsom to pull him for Armour, things could blow wide open on their sideline."

Mike Herron chipped in. "We've noted before that the Zombiees are a very aggressive team. I think we should try to get them to over pursue. We can set up on this from a ball in Robert's hands" Landry handed him the marker so he could draw as he spoke. "I can go on a sprint here, and I think Blanding will draw off in pursuit of me. That will create space for a punt to one of the J-Twins and an immediate pass to Clark, who should have a shot."

"Thoughts?" asked Landry.

"I think he's been taking too much advice from his wideout brother, Tyler. Just don't try to catch like him with your arm pinned together like that, OK?" Grant said with a lopsided grin.

"Constructive thoughts, gentlemen." elaborated Landry.

Clark chimed in "I think we'd be better served with someone with more speed on the end of that pass. David can slide temporarily into the midfield, freeing John up to make the run."

"I like it better Lewis' way." Holmes weighed in. "I think that the speed is important."

There was a brief pause.

"Defensively," began Rimes, "I think our biggest problem in the last game against Undeadzombiees was that we allowed to attack the middle with too much impunity. David being out hurt us in that department, and him being back'll help, but I think we really need to focus on keeping them wide. Let them have more shots at bad angles and Robert will shut them down all day."

"I like the way you think, Jack." Anderson agreed. "Lots of easy shots always helped keep me loose for the dangerous ones."

The discussion continued for some time, with the players each taking turns throwing ideas for strategies and plays and Landry. The locker room gradually dissolved into the kind of comfortable banter often found with a good team playing loose.

"So, what is life like in the Republic of Undeadzombiee, anyhow? Whose representatives are we up against tonight?" Anderson threw out at the room.

"Like a cheap horror movie?" Grant, ever ready with the sarcastic quip.

"I wouldn't want to live in a country filled with the undead, that's for sure." said Jack Rimes, "But their system of laws and government are pretty sane, considering how bad things are in many nations around the world."

Anderson took another bite out of the pear he was finished off. "I understand what you mean. I looked at the Upper North Yorkshire brochure their few fans were handing out back before the first game. What a dreary place that must be. Bad weather, little freedom, and less prosperity. Makes you appreciate life back home."

"They do have a very...interesting field of medical technology over in Undeadzombiee." Flowers tossed out.

"I don't think I'd take the Zombiee treatment, no matter how long it made me live. I value my vigor too much." said Clark.

"I know what you mean, Lewis." contributed Herron. "I don't think I would want too live like that."

"They have taken a fairly hard, vocal line against international slavery. I appreciated that one a lot." John Landry sometimes didn't show it, but he was passionate about a lot of issues.

David Salina said "You know what guys, I say we soccer tonight and politics later. What do you think?"

Eli F. Baker Memorial Arena

The Front Range Republic took the field, as a team, in the blue national uniforms minutes before the coin toss. In Harbor Grove, the crowd chanted "F-R-R! F-R-R! F-R-R!" as they ran onto the field. It was a cold but clear and still and night, and the field was illuminated by the overhead lights. The view from space was quite dramatic, and satellite photos of the Arena would be popular online for some time after the game.

The team huddled together near the middle of their own half. No one outside of the huddle could hear what was being said, but after a couple minutes the team broke with "ONE TWO THREE HEART!" and headed towards their positions. The final was about to begin...

OOC: So, once this is done how does the World Cup work?

Basically, you are divided into groups of teams, usually fifteen groups. Then, you play the teams in your group twice, at least that is what they did last time. Then, the top two teams from each group move on, plus the hosts. Those thirty two teams are in the true "World Cup".

This is played like the real World Cup, with the teams being divided into eight groups, and playing the other three teams in their group once. The two teams in each group with the most points move on to a single elimination tourney, and the winner of that is the winner.

Before the game, Johnsom called his players in. He said, “I am very proud of this team, of this attitude, and of this game. Mount Shavano is very good. They won’t let you win easily, and we won’t let them win. So just go out there, and don’t give up. You should win. They, while very good, aren’t unbeatable. I think we proved that in match day six. You go out and play and I guarantee that you guys will keep it close. Before we go out there, Creamer would like to say a few words.”

Creamer walked to the center of the room, and paused for a few seconds. He gazed around the room, and saw faces, not of resentment, like in the beginning, but of respect, and kindness. In that few seconds, the locker room wasn’t split; they were all cheering for Creamer.

“I have two things to say to you guys. The first is, remember when I said you might get replaced, well, I need to say something about it. You won’t be replaced. This team, this fan base, the nation needs you all, and I need you guys. This team had it continued at the level we saw in the first three or four games, would have been replaced, but you guys turned it around. I could have never have done that.”

‘The second thing is, well, we need to work together. Armour, Bailido, everyone, stop talking and thinking about this issue. This will work out by itself, and if we need to, we can deal with it after this game, but before the World Cup. But please, put aside this dispute, and if you can’t, don’t bother doing anything on the field. Just focus on getting the ball to Kalen and me, and we should do fine.”

‘Armour, you are who I wanted to be when I grow up. I have to say that since you started playing for Hauntspot, they were my favorite team, and you were my favorite player. You were so big, but so quick, so skillful, but so blunt, just the best person I could be. I know you get frustrated when you let in a goal, and are frustrated that Bailido got to start. But please, just be the person I expected you to be. Just accept that you may not get to start for a while. And please don’t get any cards, because you are so critical to morale.”

‘Bailido, be a gracious winner. I know you are frustrated by not getting to start, but now you are starting. Just get into the net, and shut up. I don’t care if you are mad, you got what you wanted. Now show the coaches why you should have started.”

‘These are my final words before you guys get out there. Enjoy this. This is gonna be a one in a lifetime chance. You have each done a great job, and deserve this. Just have fun, because, believe me, the World Cup qualifying is going to test our patience. I love you guys, you are the parents I have never had. Time for one last project.”

Tonarius unfortunate in last 2 games but not without honours

Postby Tonarius » Sat May 15, 2010 12:20 pm

Tonarius once again suffered a penalty shoot-out loss in the 3rd place match against Unitopolis, who lost only one game in the entire tournament (which was against the tournament's runners-up, Mount Shavano).

Still, Tonarius fans are satisfied enough to be in the top 4 of the tournament even though they know they could have easily gone to the final or won the 3rd place spot.

Samuele Bozzarelli scored the only penalty shoot-out goal for Tonarius. At least he still is the topscorer of the tournament.

Tonarius are now looking forward to a good World Cup campaign and will be training very often until then.

Congrats to the top three teams, you guys played a great tournament, well done. ;)

The miraculous journey of the Zombiee’s has come to an end, but it was a great tale of despair, hope, last-ditch efforts, and finally, a six game winning streak. The Zombiee’s ran onto the field today fearless, and got rewarded. The conquest of football, though, will continue for many World Cups, and other football tourneys. Good luck to all of the teams in the Introduction of Fire, and if you want to challenge us, we have an open friendlies schedule.

Thank you Quinnesence for the great tourney, and good job to every one who participated. This was a great experience for me!

We at UTN were thrilled by the antics of the various players and enjoyed seeing them all in action. But who were the three best? We asked Jack Beade for his opinion, and the opinions expressed below are his and do not reflect the stance of Unitopolitan Television Network.

1. Johnson Creamer (Undeadzombiee): Despite some debate about whether Johnson Creamer is a top striker or simply an average one who profits off other players, there's no debate that he is a player who gets goals. He was welcomed into the Undeadzombiee squad with some reluctance at first but he turned it around with several outstanding performances, and that is why he is my player of the tournament.

2. Robert Anderson (Mount Shavano): 31 years of age, when it comes to goalkeeping Robert Anderson is as good as someone 10 years younger. He kept an amazing clean sheet record, and his efforts were voted one of the most surprising things of the tournament by Quintessence of Dust natives. A rock for his team, he was comfortably one of the best players in the tournament and gets 2nd place in my opinion.

3. Corenhinho (Unitopolis): Can you pick your own player in a Player of the Tournament competition? Yes if they're good enough, in my opinion. This introduction will be remembered by Unitopolitan fans for many reasons but one of them will have to be the emergence of 23 year old Corenhinho as an amazing striker. 11 goals in 9 games speaks for itself, with a hat-trick against Emothica one of the finest individual displays of the tournament.

So that's my 3 Best Players of the Tournament, i'll leave you to make your own mind up.

Congratulations to all the nations that took part!

The only "carryover" from this tournament is that your performances here will be used to compute a KPB-rating for each team. That way you will not start the World Cup qualifying at zero. All points scored, RP bonuses accumulated, et cetera go away, only the KPB-rating remains.

There are just three tournaments that affect the rating you have earned, by the way: the Baptism of Fire, the World Cup (both qualifying and final stages), and the Cup of Harmony (which takes place at the same time as the World Cup final stage).

(Ooc) Penalty shoot-out goals don't count as goals in top scorer competitions

:palm:

I know, just saying that he was still the top scorer in the tournament.

2. Robert Anderson (Mount Shavano): same reasons as above.

3. Samuele Bozzarelli (Tonarius): I think I already explained this, but he's a young guy and this is his first senior team tournament, and to become the topscorer like that and play the way he did in some matches is just amazing. Had Tonarius not fluked out on penalties in their last two matches, he certainly would have had a higher rating overall and could have led Tonarius to lift the 38th trophy of the competition.

The New Cleethorpes Enquirer
Viewing figures "vindicate" decision to televise final

The televised final matches of the Introduction of Fire tournament claimed a 6% share in the night's viewing figures after QBS launched a last minute effort to secure rights. Director of Sports Programming, Internet Micrositcoms, Coffee Machine Maintenance, and Parking Stamping August Fernagle said the surprisingly high figures "vindicated" the decision to bid for the viewing rights.

QBS has not shown televised football matches since the fall into inactivity of the QuinTel Not-Really-Very-Premier League, and did not show any of Quintessence of Dust's qualifying games during World Cup 50, claiming that a lack of domestic interest rendered bidding commercially unviable.

The Introduction of Fire finals faced stiff competition in the timeslot, including from QBS's own programming, as QBS 2 screened a live production of the Quintessential Republican Opera's production of The Tail of Mermaid Avenue, which owned the night.

FTV also counter programmed, showing the Quintessential adaptation of "The Office" that is widely reviled as one of the worst television shows in history, its producers having apparently misinterpreted the original BBC miniseries as a real documentary, and decided to improve it by adding a great deal more factual content relating to the paper industry. It still secured 31% of viewers.

The result will also be seen as a victory for the QFA in their ongoing battle with the Department of Sport to demonstrate that football has a future in Quintessence of Dust, despite a domestic sporting schedule that is increasingly crowded with the newly lengthened Bank of Highmark Hockey League season and the fantastically popular Minimal League Baseball.

"Hosting and participating in future WCC events is not on our immediate radar," admitted Secretary of Sport Alfred Cynus at an informal barbeque held for all players and staff who had participated in the Introduction of Fire. The barbeque event involved clubbing Sally the Seal to extinguish her dangerous flames, thereby demonstrating the beneficial economic impact of seal clubbing. A varied menu featured barbequed seal, barbequed dolphin, and some select portions of WhaleCo brand barbequed whale cuts.

NCEOnline.qd Team of the Tournament

Voters on our website were allowed to select players from a shortlist prepared by our journalists for an unofficial "Team of the Tournament" - actually a squad of 21 players. It should be noted the selections are not endorsed by the World Cup Committee, and that there were no limits on positional voting, leading to a rather drastic imbalance of strikers versus defenders. Bolded players received the most votes, to be selected to the first XI.

Goalkeepers

Robert Anderson (Mount Shavano), Lucius Boari (Tonarius), Shin Young-Ho (Inabi)

Defenders

Johnny Carr (Vjiay), Ryan Crow (Kryosis), Stefan Jackson (Vjiay), Mihail Laloia (Tonarius), David Salina (Mount Shavano), Yeom Yi-Kyung (Inabi)

Midfielders

Jonas Dollings (Undeadzombiee), Kenil Hutsa (Unitopolis), Giuseppe Joliano (Unitopolis), Dwayne Lightfoot (Vjiay), Russ McCullough (Undeadzombiee), Christy Millar (Dimoniquid), Rodrigo Montoya (Kryosis)

Forwards

Samuele Bozzarelli (Tonarius), Kim Chul-Soon (Inabi), Lewis Clark (Mount Shavano), "Corenhinho" (Unitopolis), Johnson Creamer (Undeadzombiee), Erich Kalen (Undeadzombiee)

Good one !!

nah just messin, Liverpool have great players like Torres (though he's spoken of leaving and injury prone and all those problems), Gerrard (though he's not the same as he used to be), Masch, Benayoun, Babel, etc. really surprising season for you guys and as much as I love Utd and supposed to hate 'pool, I actually admire your team. benitez is an idiot though.

Anyway, back on topic:
care for a World Cup 51 friendly? I could request one. You have a great squad and would like to keep good relations between Tonarius and Unitopolis in the world of NS footy. ;)
