The Mötörääroitu Nazyonalla Auruna (MNA) is Auruna's own governing body for motorsports, especially for local motorsports held in the country since 1974. Motorsport is widely popular in Auruna, more than any other sport in the country. There's a wide variety of motorsports in Auruna but the most popular are Endurance, Touring Cars, and Rally. With many Aurun drivers being successful in each series they race in, more still hope to be one of the best in the country if not the world.

Current Season: 2022

Aurun Domestic Motorsport took a year off as the MNA, the official governing body, started a major restructuring programme and only finished right after the conclusion of the Aurun Grand Prix. High tier series such as us the AEC, AtMA and E-Series were postponed. Only the WGPC Aurun GP, the Aurun WGP2 Race of the Hills, and the WSRC at Livonsk were the major motorsport events held inside the country.

The changes were crucial for future management of MNA-sanctioned events as well as international series entering Auruna with the MNA entering the neighbouring country of Lassei and Allican with AtMA and AEC. The MNA enters 2022 with high hopes starting with the return of the E-Series and AtMA for the first half of the year. The AEC and the newly-formed Aurun WGP3 are expected to be held sometime after the conclusion of AtMA as the calendars for both aren't finalised yet.

Motorsport Information

Endurance

Endurance racing is a form of motorsport racing which is meant to test the durability of equipment and endurance of participants. Teams of multiple drivers attempt to cover a large distance in a single event, with participants given a break with the ability to change during the race. Endurance races can be run either to cover a set distance in laps as quickly as possible, or to cover as much distance as possible over a preset amount of time.

Endurance racing is one of the oldest motor sports in Auruna, and it is the most popular. Viska, a joint motorsport team of Schkeska and VSK, has been successful in local and international endurance races, this includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans which Viska won eight times. Besides local automotive brands, Aston Martins are widely used by most Aurun endurance teams with Viska being the most successful with Aston Martins. Aurun drivers are known for their extreme endurance, being capable of consistent performance for long periods. Current Aurun Formula One driver Lukas Ziuvin has raced in the endurance series for the VSK works team for three years before transitioning to Formula One.

AtMA

Touring car racing is a motorsport road racing competition with heavily modified road-going cars. While not as fast as Formula One, the similarity of the cars both to each other and to fans' own vehicles makes for entertaining, well-supported racing. The lesser use of aerodynamics means following cars have a much easier time passing than in F1, and the more substantial bodies of the cars makes the subtle bumping and nudging for overtaking much more acceptable as part of racing.

As well as short "sprint" races, many touring car series include one or more endurance races, which last anything from 3 to 24 hours and are a test of reliability and pit crews as much as car, driver speed, and consistency.

The AtMA (Auvotörennä Mestännä Auruna) is Auruna's very own touring car series starting in its inaugural season in 1989. Many local teams and drivers started racing in AtMA with Schkeska, Akil, and VSK being the three main constructors and engine suppliers. In 2010, more international teams and manufacturers started to race in AtMA with varying degrees of success in the series, although the international teams have not seen much success, they are still competitive and are able to win races.

As of recently, VSK has been dominant in the series with the new regulation changes but Viska and Schkeska has been keeping up and in the last season, it was a close competition with a one point difference between the three teams.

Rally

Rally is a form of motorsport that takes place on public or private roads with modified production or specially built road-legal cars. It is distinguished by not running on a circuit, but instead in a point-to-point format in which participants and their co-drivers drive between set control points (special stages), leaving at regular intervals from one or more start points. Rallies may be won by pure speed within the stages or alternatively by driving to a predetermined ideal journey time within the stages.

Rallying in Auruna has seen a sudden rise of popularity in the 70s with Aurun driver Niko Kauma winning the 1974 1000 Lakes Rally for Lancia. After that, more Aurun drivers joined rally teams then Schkeska joined in 1981 and proved to be very competitive and in the start of the Group B era, Schkeska is one of the most dominant teams in the series, only beaten by Audi and Lancia but eventually winning one WRC Drivers' and Constructors' championship in 1984 with Andrej Taunkanna. After the end of the Group B era, Schkeska saw more success in Group A, winning two WRC Drivers' and Constructors' championships with Andrej Taunkanna, and three more championships with Lauri Vorlen after he moved from the domestic ARC.

Domestically, the ARC is not as big as the other MNA championships but it is still up there in terms of popularity. While the ARC lacked in certain areas, it wasn't lacking in drivers and memorable stories from Haukanna vs Vorlen to the might of Könä. Many notable drivers in other MNA championships first competed in ARC before moving on to their preferred disciplines which earned the series the nickname of "The Origins of Legends".

Rallycross

Rallycross is a form of sprint style automobile racing, held on a closed mixed-surface racing circuit, with modified production or specially built road cars, similar to the World Rally Cars.

While Rallycross is not that popular as Rally, it is slowly rising in popularity since the first rallycross race in Auruna in 1998. Schkeska is a dominant force in rallycross thanks to their expertise in rallying. There are only a few actual rallycross tracks in Auruna, the rest are just a modified, and usually shorter version of one of the current tracks.

E-Series
The latest addition to the Aurun motorsport roster. The E-Series is an electric car racing series. It was a spec series using Schkeska's Körd sedan as a base until every team that entered could develop their own cars funded by the MNA, all with custom bodies turning the cars into a "lite" version of AEC cars. There are plans on racing on permanent circuits like Livonsk but due to range, they were limited to circuits below 4 km until further development in the lengthy off-season bumped the range up to 5.5km. The calendar will be mostly comprised of street and road circuits, including Schyözirena Novinaya. A lot of drivers moved to racing in the E-Series with big names like Laura Haukanna and Lena Jaukko. Krazivaran's Haru Jukkenna is currently the reigning E-Series Champion.

Aurun WGP3
(Formerly Viska Junior Formula)

The Aurun WGP3 is an Aurun open wheeled championship under the MNA and WGPO. It was the result of the rising popularity of WGP racing in Auruna after the successes of Viska in WGPC and the Aurun drivers who were competing. The championship was formed with the Viska Junior Formula as a base and it slowly incorporated the recently-dead Formula Auruna during formation. After a long and messy period of MNA politics, the Aurun WGP3 was finally born and plans were made to commence the championship in early 2022 which was then pushed back to late 2022 after the restructuring.

The Viska Junior Formula was Viska's one-make open wheeled racing series where their recruited young drivers race, it's intended to function as the young kart racing graduate's first experience of car racing and to train them for the higher-tier racing series. Many drivers from Viska's junior drivers have been successful in their respective motorsport like Miko Kaukanna, Lena Jaukko, Artur Iljakov, and Jöna Ekeränna.

Artur Iljakov drives for Viska in this season's AEC
Veteran endurance driver Artur Iljakov will be driving for Viska in this year's Aurun Endurance Championship. He will be sharing the car with Viska rookies, Hana Kolitau and Hikku Urakanna. Before the AEC season starts, Artur is Viska's advisor in the current WGP2 season where the team saw much success with two wins and leading both championships.

The team is hoping to get another championship win with Artur and beat their main rivals, VSK and Schkeska in this competitive season.

More Könä in the grid
The Könä family is one of the well-known motorsport families with most of them being involved in motorsport in every way. The three siblings, Haru, Ivan, and Tora are racing this season with Ivan being the most experienced of the three. Tora and Ivan are driving for Schkeska in this season's Rally Auruna while Könä, the youngest of the three, is driving for VSK in AtMA.

New Kuyonnen teams and drivers join
Two Kuyonnen teams, and 10 drivers join this season in various motorsport. Kuyonnen teams, Krazivaran and Urakkan, have some experience in motorsport, the former is an e-sports team and the latter is a local karting team which raced in higher-tiered motorsports. Kuyonne has a few contributions to the race calendar namely, Korelburg International and Mavinna International, both being in the VJF's calendar.

AURUN E-SERIES
Pre-Season Test
Iänälla Circuit, Iänälla, Auruna

It's time for the inaugural season of the Aurun E-Series, Auruna's first official electric motorsport. We will be starting with the pre-season test here in the Iänälla Circuit, a former AAF Airbase turned into a circuit. It is still owned by the government because of the MNA and it is one of the best circuits to go and have fun with autocross, karting, and time attack, with a fee of 50-125 ANR per day.

In this pre-season test, our drivers here will be getting used to the cars and the technology. They need to be ready for the first race next week. The teams are working tirelessly on creating their own power unit for the chassis that they will be using but for now, it looks like an even field.

There are a few familiar names in the grid, like Miko Kaukanna's brother Evan Kaukanna in the Viska, touring car driver Lena Jaukko and rally driver Laura Haukanna in the Schkeskas, and F1 driver Lukas Ziuvin's sister Kinu Ziuvin in the Viska. There are also some young talent like 2014 VJF Champion Artur Ranna, who is currently driver for KL-VSK, and 2018 VJF Runner-Up Kiko Kantola, who was Schkeska Racing's Test Driver in 2019.

Drivers have two hours in the morning and the afternoon to get used to their machines.

Pre-Season Test
Iänälla Circuit, Iänälla, Auruna

The first day of the E-Series, it was raining in the morning. The test continues and it was the drivers' first experience with the rain in an E-Series car. There were some sliding, spins, and crashes, but it wasn't much of a big deal as it provided valuable data to the teams for the upcoming wet races. Two hours pass and Mari Kauvina tops the timesheet with a 2:15.704. It's time for a break. The drivers are having fun during the break and while they are busy with whatever they are doing, the rain slowly stopped but it's still cloudy so there's a chance that it will come back.

In an interview, Laura Haukanna expressed her opinions on the cars and the morning session.

To be honest, it was quite fun. I have experience with driving in the rain in light cars, but it was a bit difficult. The southern provinces are really famous for their rains laughs. I would like to get a run on a dry track but you'd never expect what happens next.

The cars are great. I had a surprise with the torque while leaving the pit lane. In an instant, you are already at about 120, 150 kph. It felt like someone was pushing you into the seat with their friends, all together with full force in one second. I know the rally cars that I have driven can accelerate quick, but this is on another level.

The afternoon session starts, and the weather is cloudy. The track is still a bit wet but it is drying, quickly if the cars are out on the circuit. The laptimes are close, the cars are similar, it is all about skill here. The teams gathered as much data as they can for two hours before the rain can ruin their runs. At the end of the afternoon session, E-Pliko's Kera Mesta posted the fastest lap of 1:58.610, a great result for the team and high hopes for them as their times have been consistent but winning the upcoming races will be a hard task in a very competitive field.

Urakkan signs Juri Nila
Kuyonnen team Urakkan have chosen rookie driver Juri Nila to be their second driver for this season's AtMA. It is a bold move from the new team to sign a rookie driver but based on Juri Nila's recent performance in the lower tiers, they probably made the right choice. There is still time for the teams to prepare before the season starts in the 31st of May with a pre-season test and then the first race the next weekend.

Viska Junior Formula driver lineup reveal
Viska's junior racing series has seen a surge of drivers last month, most are from local karting schools. There are 26 total drivers in the VJF currently and they will be revealed in April 5. The amount of young talents currently in the series may cause it to be one of the most competitive season since the 30-driver season in 2008.

E-sports team enters Rally Auruna
Veratun E-sports team Kilanta will be racing in Rally Auruna. They have plans on getting at least two of their members to drive for them. The car that they will use is not yet confirmed, it is possible that it will be a Schkeska Kana or Vezrel. They have received funding from their sponsors to support their entry in the series.

Viska reveals junior drivers
Since it is time, Viska reveals their junior drivers racing in the VJF this season. From different backgrounds, this lineup is new to Viska as there are no current drivers who raced on the past VJF seasons. The drivers are new to Viska's lineup and in the upcoming weekend in Kuyonne, it will be time for testing at one of the two Kuyonnen circuits in the VJF calendar. The amount of drivers this season is second to the 2008 VJF season where there are 30 drivers racing.

Kilanta purchases Akil cars for Rally
Akil, a smaller Aurun car manufacturer, was chosen by Kilanta for their cars that will be used in this season's Rally Auruna. Akil has a wide variety of cars, mostly hot hatches, sedans and sportscars. They have a lot to choose from but the team purchased an Akil KM55, which is a hot hatch. Akil offered to modify the car for the team and provide parts for them and Kilanta accepted the offer. The car is unproven on the track let alone on a rally stage so this is the first time that an Akil car is used on a rally.

AURUN E-SERIES
Round 1 - Practice
Aruklaz Circuit, Aruklaz, Auruna

It is the first round of the inaugural season of the Aurun E-Series. We're at the fast 3.9 (3.995) kilometer circuit of Aruklaz where the drivers are most likely to push their cars to the absolute limit with the two long straights making up most of the circuit. This circuit is also used by the AtMA and the Endurance championships so our drivers who came from those series will have an advantage with experience on the circuit.

The two hour practice session will be split into the morning practice and the afternoon practice as usual for most motorsport in Auruna.

Time for qualifying in the first round of this season's the Aurun E-Series. After an intense first race of the Aurun E-Series, Laura finished P9 just behind her teammate. She started P18 which allowed her to avoid the Turn 1 incident at the race which promoted her to P15. She slowly climbed up the order until she was in the points where she couldn't catch up with the others.

After the race, the two Schkeska drivers rest in the garage for a bit.

Laura: "Whew... that race was crazy."

Lenna: "Yeah, it was. Nice driving out there. Didn't expect that kind of performance from a rally driver."

"Heh, I was flat-out there."

"I think you'll get use to the bumping, just like in AtMA."

"You're right, I got caught napping once followed by a tap. I don't know who did that."

"It was Kantola."

"Huh... okay."

"Anyway, I'm going home for a while. I can't wait to watch the upcoming VJF season."

"Oohh... okay okay. "

"Also, good luck on your path to the international stage. You have some competition, especially Kaukanna."

"I think I'll do alright this season, then I can race in the international ones. I can't wait..."

VISKA JUNIOR FORMULA
Pre-Season Test
Korelburg International, Korelburg, Kuyonne

For the Pre-Season Test of the 2020 VJF, we're at Korelburg in Kuyonne. The first time an Aurun motorsport event held at another country. Conditions here are different from Auruna but it will all be similar. This is one of two Kuyonnen ciruits in the VJF calendar. The Kuyonnen junior drivers here will be confident in the pre-season test and the first race which will be held at a nearby Kuyonnen circuit.

For most of our drivers here, it will be their first time driving a higher-tier car as they come from karting and other amateur motorsports.

The drivers have two hours in the morning and the afternoon to test their cars and get used to it. After the morning test, they can choose participate in sponsor events and after that, they can have their lunch break.

It's going to be one month before the next race... and I'm already bored. Not much is happening regarding motorsports here, besides the VJF at the weekend after my first race, which I watched and enjoyed. My first race was unexpectedly intense. Good thing I started P18 or I would've been involved with the turn 1 incidents. I never expected these other drivers from different motorsports to be too aggressive, or am I missing out on the fun? I know I can push a rally car through tight gravel stages but I think I'm not confident enough in that kind of motorsport where you race with others. Well, at least I finished P9. I think the calendar format of the E-Series is weird. Practice in Wednesday, quali and race in Thursday, I think I'll get use to this quick.

After the VJF I watched the WGP2, where I'm going to try and race in next season. Anyway, I was busy at Friday and Saturday to tune in to practice and quali but I managed to watch the race after the VJF test.

Oh boy, it was madness. Double DNF for Viska there and it's due to engine failure which is rare with my experience with their cars. I hope their next race will go well for them.

Well, time to wait for the first round of the VJF this weekend. It's at Kuyonne which is a first for any Aurun motorsport. I can't afford to go there but I can watch it on TV. Then I remembered about the next WGP2 weekend. What should I watch first?

The first round of the 2020 VJF. We're here at Kuyonne this weekend, at the Mavinna International. The 4.7 kilometer circuit located near the airport features long straights and a banked final corner. This circuit was completed last year and this is the first high-tier motorsport to race on the circuit. The international layout that is currently used has 18 corners in total, seven left, eleven right.

Weather reports say that there is a high chance of rain this weekend.

MNA NEWS

Viska Juniors stuck in Kuyonne
The Viska Juniors are currently stuck in Kuyonne due to a typhoon in the area which resulted to all flights being cancelled. They will be staying in the hotels until the typhoon leaves the area or weakens. While there, they are holding virtual races using the public version of Viska's simulator. The next race might be pushed back a week but it will depend if the drivers are able to fly back to Auruna or not.

Schkeska and Viska donates more cars to MNA
A safety car is needed in every motorsport to slow the field down in order for the marshals to clear out the track after an accident or any other incident. While there are many safety cars in the MNA inventory, they are now old and needed replacements. Now, VIska donates some of their Aston Martin DBR9s to the MNA to serve as safety cars. Schkeska donates some of their rally-spec Vezrels to serve as safety cars and zero cars.

A week passed, I'm just doing whatever that I can think of, like sim racing, cooking, and drawing. The good news is that I can get a seat with Viska for the next season of the WGP2, talked to the team boss, Jöna, and there it is. Meanwhile back home, I am excited for the next race, finally something to do in a week. I am currently at 9th in the championship with two points, yes, two points. Well, it's probably because Niko Mella grew up racing there so he knows what he's doing and also my lack of confidence behind the wheel of a different kind of car. It's going to be a few days before practice, I need to keep up physically.

Now, I'm not sure if I'm actually going to get along with my teammate. She's... well, she's different from my old teammates in every aspect. She sounds so stiff. I don't want an intense teammate rivalry. Might end up with too much drama just like in that one certain motorsport. Anyway, it looks like she's good at the E-Series, coming from touring cars, she's back home... kind of.

I'll just do whatever I can think of while waiting for the day to come.

AURUN E-SERIES
Round 2 - Practice
Schyözirenä Novinaya, Novinaya, Auruna

For the second round of the season, we're at Novinaya and unfortunately, due to the limitations of the current electric cars here, we are not able to race at the challenging Novinaya-Lirei Zuroloyov Circuit. The other circuit here that was picked is Schyözirenä Novinaya, which is a shorter circuit in a park at the north-eastern part of the city. This circuit has been recently been renovated which turned it into a Class S circuit that allows it to host higher-tier motorsports.

As usual, the two hour practice is split into the morning practice and afternoon practice.

There has been a minor change with qualifying in the E-Series for this round, using the traditional qualifying but split into three with a short 15-minute break in between of each.

Based on the results of the two practice sessions, Närä is predicted to perform well in qualifying. It will actually be a surprise if they didn't qualify in the top three due to the fast and aggressive nature of quali here.

After qualifying, we have Ivan Zuyivan of Schkeska-Lipovana at pole followed by Kovu Pärtä and Vina Ara. Nära seems to continue their strong performance at qualifying as both of their drivers are near the top but will they win the race? Time to find out.

Conditions on track are clear and dry, they will have a bit of a hard time with the tire temperatures due to the track temperatures. The teams are predicted to do at least two stops in the race, it would be risky to do a one-stop but a team can probably do it if they can manage their tire temperatures.

Novinaya-Lirei Zuroloyov Circuit, Novinaya Auruna

After being stuck for two weeks in Kuyonne, the Viska juniors finally returned to Auruna just in time for the second around which has been pushed a few weeks due to the event. For this weekend, due to the sudden snowfall at Novinaya, practice has been moved to the following day making this a condensed weekend.

The format will be similar but they will only have one hour for practice in the morning then qualifying in the afternoon.

The first race at Auruna and at a great circuit. Juho Väikä takes pole position earning him a point then he's followed by Reinno VInnan and Nivo Motrenna at P2 and P3 respectively. The last race's winner and current championship leader, Lara Koina starts at P6. She needs a good finish if not a win here in order to keep her championship lead.

Viska Circuit, Sterlennau, Auruna

It's round 3 of the Viska Junior Formula, now we're at Viska's own circuit in Sterlennau. While they have a dedicated test circuit at Livonsk, the Viska Circuit is also used for testing whenever there are no races being held. It is called the "Mini Akresna" or the "Akresnami" due to it sharing a few similarities with the Akresna Circuit.

The schedule is back to normal as well as the usual morning-afternoon practice sessions.
