A The Beet Exclusive: The URSF announce plans to replace all Anglo-Omericans with Lusophone doppelgangers
Lusitanian-speaking copies will duly be substituted in for all English-speaking Omericans, effective for footballers with the upcoming Campeonato das Associações Independentes

A map leaked from the Federal Secretariat for Tourism, Sport and Culture detailing the transition schedule

Porto Alexandre, Mespalia — The United Republican Soccer Federation, in coöperation with the Omerican Federal Government, have announced a brand new initiative to completely replace the English language in Omerica with Lusitanian.

Celebrating the founding of the Federação de Futebol Independente and its mission to fully de-Anglicise the Independent Associations, the URSF have announced their complete coöperation with this initiative by replacing all of Omerica’s Anglophone players with otherwise-identical Lusophone copies. The United Republican Soccer Federation has also transitioned to exclusively using Lusitanian in its documentation, including roster and matchday line-up releases, for the upcoming “Campeonato das Associações Independentes” in the predominately Lusophone nation of HUElavia.

“We can see the trends here,” Omerican Prime Minister Julie Thibault, noted non-Anglophone, told A Beterraba in an exclusive interview. “English is dead. Lusitanian is the future. We have to adapt to the times if we want to be able to compete.”

“We hope that by adopting a common language,” Thibault stated, “that we can create a cohesive and unified ‘Independent Associations’ that isn’t just based on envy of Rushmore, Esportiva and AOCAF. I see us being visionaries in this field, revolutionary even.”

The transition will continue after after the IAC, with the west coast republics of West Calaverde, Windstead, the Seafoam Islands and New Guernsey scheduled to be the first to undergo “Lusophonisation”. The second stage will move east to Mespalia, the Free State, Port-des-Saints and the anglophone regions of Avon before the final stage concludes with the de-Anglicisation of Great Arden, Heathmoor, Coleraine and the Emerald Isles.

Per leaked plans, republics with names deemed “too Anglic” will be rechristened; this reportedly applies to Coleraine, Heathmoor, Strathavon, Windstead and (possibly) New Guernsey. Contests will be held in these republics to come up with suitably Lusophone names. Authorities hope to complete this transition in time for the IAC’s landmark tenth edition, but the process is expected to take at least four years to complete, which would run up to the tournament’s eleventh edition.

According to the URSF, this programme will not affect Omerica’s Francophone population.

“The FFI have not announced any plans to replace the French language,” URSF President Casimir Paquet said in an exclusive interview with A Beterraba. “As far as we’re aware, they don’t even know it exists.” —TB

TJUN-ia Update: Hope Is Not Yet Lost

Postby TJUN-ia » Wed Mar 25, 2020 12:17 pm

In Bacnano, the Chinese-speaking city in HUElavia, lies the Estadio Sino. It was here that TJUN-ia played Juvencus.

The game was tight from the off, but it was Gli attaccanti who struck first via Patxi Etxeberria in the 23rd minute. The Jaguars hit back through Vladimir Podolov in the 32nd but Juvencus went into the break 2-1 up via a 43rd minute counter from Joaquim Martell.

The 2nd half was a siege as the Jaguars peppered the goal and it's keeper Taddeo Bulgari but to no avail, until substitute Prince Carter leved the score. His first ever TJUN-ian International goal via a corner in the 73rd. The rest of the game was pure attacking football but in the end both Bulgari and Gylfisson held their ground. 2-2 the final score as the 105th ranked team in NS Football earned a draw against the 40th.

The other game in Group D wasn't as close, as the Squornshelan Remnant States beat Space 5-3 in Curumba. The Jaguars and Juvencus now lead the Group with 4-points each (Juve lead on goals scored) with the SRS 1 point back in 3rd.

Our 3rd and final group game is against the Confederates at San Ignatius in Basque-speaking Itio. If Juvencus was important, this is massively important. TJUN-ia has to avoid defeat to qualify for the knockouts. GO JAGS!

Monglechabgd 0-1 Tara and Cambray
Defeat of a goal difference that places this group more closed than ever.

Goalscore
TCA: Player #7 '40

Estadio Bendito, San Franco, HUElavia
Game at night in HUElavia with a little cold, the atmosphere of emotion was felt in the stadium, and the few Monglechabians who come are more and more, from 500 in Lourdes we increased to 2000 here in San Franco, the team trip in his bus was accompanied by a large line of cars from Monglechabagd showing his support despite being a new team in the multiverse, which clearly we must improve, in front is Tara and Cambray, a team from Melayu Archipelago that is positioned in the position 137 in the KPB Ranking, and is one of the many Melayu teams that debuted in the last cycle of the World Cup, this nation played well its 2 editions of its regional tournament when its region was called Tanah Melayu, although they have not yet been champions, after reviewing a bit of the past we now go to the present.

Both teams formed and sang their respective national anthems, they greeted each other, all the players in their positions and the referee blows the whistle, the match starts where the first attack was from the Dëmonrot, Thomas Venger had the ball where he decided to make a center, Only three touches from the start of the game, that's how Lans Veteurkers achieved a strong header that sadly the goalkeeper caught him, only 15 seconds passed for the first attack to come, it was unexpected for everyone but the game continues, Tara and Cambray was looking Little by little the goal, his players sadly are not recognized so nobody knows their names, although their strategy is also unknown, Monglechabagd must automatically defend his goal, the attacks did not arrive until minute 12 when Player # 11 runs for him. left side where Jean Batie is, the latter marked him and left him without center spaces, Player # 8 asked for the ball and # 11 passed it where # 8 managed to center The ball went to the area for the header of # 10, that header ended in the hands of Sokolüb, both have their aerial attacks, so the game continued with chances missed by both teams but in the 40th minute, an attack by Tara and Cambray left Monglechabagd unanswered, # 5 sent him a direct pass through the gap of the defense of Monglechabagd, Player # 7 was alone with the goalkeeper and Sokolüb was unable to do anything, GOOOOOAL by Tara and Cambray, 40 minutes and managed to show the strength of the Melayu teams, this was how the first half ended.

Monglechabagd who is a defensive team as demonstrated by his previous rival, had to change to use an offensive tactic that could overcome the defense of Tara and Cambray, the referee resumes the game and Tara and Cambray moves the ball, Monglechabagd managed to have a clear performance that sadly did not end in goal, Alsaud made a short pass for Roger Vilkaum where he managed to find a hole in the defense, it seemed that the same play by Tara and Cambray was repeated but it was not, Player # 1, the goalkeeper, He managed to stop the shot by sending that ball to the corner, Veteurkers managed to center the ball for a header by Ryan Vits, a rejection by Player # 2 for a monster kick by Schneider, the ball hit the crossbar, a missed opportunity to score the first Monglechabagd's goal, although this was the case, the Dëmonrot must keep looking for the goal, but what goal? This was the whole game without opportunities and some dangerous plays by Tara and Cambray, but there were no more goals and the score 1-0 was in favor of Melayu team, it was a shame not to tie, but now they must play against Ziwana.

1 Tara and Cambray 2 2 0 0 4 2 +2 6 Clasification
2 Reçueçn 2 0 2 0 0 0 0 2

3 Ziwana 2 0 1 1 2 3 −1 1
4 Monglechabagd 2 0 1 1 0 1 −1 1

The positions leave Tara and Cambray fully classified regardless of the outcome of their match against Recuecn, so that Monglechabagd must qualify must win if or if, Recuecn must lose his match, and Monglechabagd beat him, the chances are very few to classify anymore that Recuecn is a high-level team and they are the current champions, Ziwana is also a problem since this team is new and completely surprising in WC84Q, Monglechabagd must play everything, there is only one game left and we have to encourage, GO MONGLE GO.

HUElavia Advances In A 9-Goal Thriller!

HUElavia came into Matchday 2 leading Group A after winning 2-0 against Kriegiersien in the opening match of the tournament. This time around, Los Amarillos were playing their second match at Estádio Costeiro (78,000) in HUEsillia against Omerica, a team Los Amarillos are familiar with. Their one other encounter happened in the Group Stage of IAC 8, where Omerica defeated HUElavia 3-1, where Omerica eventually took Group E. This time around, HUElavia wanted to return the favor and take an important victory where a win would have either team directly advance to the Round-of-16.

The match kicked off and in the 5th minute, a cross from Gallegos met the head of Toni, who headed it past Augustin and into the goal, to make it 1-0, with the crowd going crazy. This lead was short lived as Falkirk equalized in the 9th minute with a chip that went over Lobato and into the goal, making it 1-1. Both teams went at it until the 33rd minute saw a pass from Cristiano meet the foot of Rossi, who banged it past Augustin, making it 2-1 and the crowd jumping like crazy while Rossi did the cross and pointed to the sky. Omerica would get the last goal of the half, as a pass from Soares met the foot of Bolton to slide it between Lobato's legs and tied it at 2-2 in the 45+2nd minute.

The second half once again saw many goals go in, as substitute Navarro dashed pass the defense a few seconds into kickoff (46th minute) to slide it past Augustin and make the scoreline read 3-2, with the crowd jumping and roaring, while Navarro was mobbed by the squad. This goal also went short lived as a free kick in the 51st minute by Palmeiro went over the wall and past Lobato into the goal, making the scoreline 3-3, giving severe anxiety to the thousands of fans at the stadium. Both teams kept attacking until the 80th minute, where a corner taken by Ramirez met the head of Smirnov to put the game at 4-3, once again giving euphoria to the stadium. Although, in the 85th minute, a long shot by Cabral went past Lobato to make it 4-4, with the fans severely agitated. Additional time came, and in the final seconds of the match, a corner taken by Ramirez was headed in by Lobato, who came up to give one last try at goal, and into the goal it went, with Augustin unable to stop the shot. Lobato was mobbed by the whole team, while the crowd went crazy and caused a massive rumble in the stadium, with announcers almost unable to speak from how loud the stadium was. The referee blew the whistle, and HUElavia advanced to the Round-of-16 with a game at hand (vs Sajnur) as Group Winners.

The next match will feature a mix of experienced and inexperienced players to give rest to most of the starters before the start of the knockout rounds. The match versus Sajnur will be played in Estadio Internacional in San Rafael (82,500).

Losing momentum: Tough lost in Estadio Salvador
By Marco Reisai (@Reisai7)

(NLA) New Lusitania and the Algarves 1–0 Daskel (DKL)

SAO SALVADOR -- In a heated game 2 of the IA9 Groups phrase, Daskel lost to New Lusitania and the Algarves 1 to 0. This defeat was hard for our players, but the team is ready to prepare for their next tournament: The Baptism of Fire.

With a lone goal from Lusitania in minute 20, Daskel couldn't break the strong defense of their rivals. Crossing the midfield felt like jumping on a wall. Even with the defense having their best game yet, the Astrals couldn't score in 90 minutes of action.

"This will sting for a while" said Samuer Tama, who had the closest scoring opportunity in minute 41 "We came here to demostrate Daskel that soccer can grow, but we were defeated. But! We take this experience as a booster to progress, to train hard and make a better team. Next time we will come back, and we'll come stronger!"

5 Keys for the next game (and the future)

5. Defense -- Defense worked well for this game. The line-up only had one change, Rosal, who was replaced by veteran player Obuhira. This change made a difference, and needs to be carried into the future.

4. Experience -- This team, in comparison with many squads, is new. We need experience to progress. Of course, younger players will benefit from playing with experienced players and rivals, like what we saw with Peumo in first game.

3. Leadership -- It's on the clear view that we need a strong leadership role in the team. Galaro needs to make this call, but we put our hopes in Touma and Peumo, if Galaro finally decides to put him in the starting players.

2. Scoring -- This game, scoring was a problem among daskelian players. We don't know the reason or the answer, but believe that experience with stronger squads can give Daskel a hand in this department.

5. Confidence -- It's not the time to dig a hole and hide. These are the moments when a team can grow more. Learn of your mistakes! Find your weak points and strive to best them! This is the only way to improve.

Next game is against Free Republics, a soccer powerhouse. Cheer for the Astrals!

The Spenson Star

What's red and sounds Banijan? A Panjia.

This was the punch line on the tongues of many Zwangzug fans after the red and orange Poafmersian team defeated Abigail Chatelenas' side. Poafmersia are no strangers to Zwangzug, of course, having begun their team's young career here last cycle in the Baptism of Fire. If Zwangzug were not trounced as badly as Barfleur, say, it might be because several of this side were looking beyond the game at hand and trying to play their way into the starting eleven. If Zwangzug did not look like a World Cup-caliber side, however, it's probably because...several of this side were looking beyond the game at hand, full stop.

With attacking-minded Bassabook in the ascendancy domestically, one would think that the World Cup 85 roster would go back to having a striker or two, and that Tavish Willow's (1)-4-6-0 is on the way out. That being said, Poafmersia tried to pack the midfield as they had against Lisander, and if they could not match Zwangzug in force of numbers they could in possession. Bytia Hisel, one of the three women in the Red Panijas, would open the scoring off a pass from Dargis Walshor in the thirteenth minute. In minute 38, Shakira Handris dribbled past Tova Miovuku and made it 2-0. Goon Figsh, who came on as a halftime substitute, scored the third goal with a header. Chatelenas' substitutions didn't help matters either--yes, Laurel Tinker-Witt needs experience beyond the unstable Apox league, but was throwing her on with twenty minutes to play worthwhile? Subroto Parida is clearly not the future, so why are we indulging him beyond "eh he's healthy enough let's go for it"?

Poafmersia have clinched a spot in the knockout stages with their second win. As for Zwangzug, they will take on Lisander to close out the group stage. They are not to be confused with Matthias Lisander, who plays for Silver Beach--you wonder if he gave the announcers trouble in the 3-3 draw.

Port Emberian Dragons Grabs Narrow Second Win During IAC9 Match Day 2

Port Ember 2 - 1 Abanhfleft

By Erica Davies - Port Ember Times Sports Journal

The Port Emberian national football team, the Dragons managed to grab their second (albeit narrow) victory during their Independent Associations Cup 9 (IAC9)  campaign against the impressive-looking national team of Abanhfleft during Match Day 2.

The match was played within the Estadio Hueti Stadium, in the city of Jinaqa; Democracy of HUElavia. The modern stadium's 63 000 seats were a total sell-out, with Port Emberian and Abanhfleft fans filling both the stadium - and atmosphere with passion and support.

The Abanhfleft national team started the game of with the kick off, playing a very technical and passing style, slightly stumping the Dragons whom had prepared for a attack minded squad, and failed to effectively end the posession strangehold their opponents held over the ball for majority of the first half. Those precious few moments which the Port Emberian squad did manage to steal possession was consequently shut down with haste by a ruthless defensive effort.

The constant technical skills, long passes and slow gameplay prowess on display by the Abanhfleft squad managed to take its toll on our national squad as they grew frustrated with the unfolding of events, which led to regular mistakes in the backline, exposing our squads age old weakness of a struggling backline. This mistakes and holes left was capitalised upon rapidly, leading to 7 shots at goal, foetunateĺy all halted by our legendary keeper Peter Smith, whom displayed acrobatic skills normally reserved for stuntman in blockbusters.

The first goal of the derby came from a left corner kick taken by Prudence Woodward, which was headbutted into the net by Stephanie Winter-Slaughter with masterfull precision in minute 36. Thus, four minutes later the first half was announced complete, with Abanhfleft leading 1 - 0.

The second half commenced with a Port Emberian kick off and a surprising burst attack - Captain Ray Reddington kicked off by passing deep to the left flank to winger Steven Packard, who continued to burst down the field, outpacing and dodging three rushing defenders, executed a world class pass to striker Leon Moult who was nearing the box, smashing the ball with the power and accuracy of a angry spirit - deep into the bottom left corner of the sticks - making keeper Stephanie Bryan look like a static fool. The squad swarmed Moult in celebration whilst the Port Emberiam fans in the stands went nuts with bliss.

The game was now equal with a 1 - 1 score as the game restarted. For the next 35 minutes the match was an equal one, both sides attempting some form of attack, both sides attempts faltering against a rallying defence.

With only 5 minutes left of game time it seemed a draw was on the cards as both sides seemed to accept this fate as attacks turned more conservative, and defence more coordinated. However, in a last desperate attempt at changing their fate, Port Emberian substitute striker Ryan Bowman came to replace the fatigued Leon Moult. This turned out to be an excellent decision from Coach Baxter, as he managed to steal posession deep within own territory, bursting down field in a solo run, outpacing and dodging all who stood in his way. His amazing 80 meter dash ended with him defeating the sticks guardian with a well placed shot in minute 89 - effevtively winning the match for the Dragons in one impactfull swoop, with both the squad and the large crowd of Port Emberian supporters in attendance going mad in celebrations.

Aftermatch word from the Coach

"Whilst I am obviously delighted with the fact that the lads could grab the win here, I am obviously a bit concerned with how the 'bigger picture' played out in general. The lads displayed some horendous defensive play in the backline whilst also struggling to maintain momentum while on the attack. This is indeed things we will be working extra hard on before we enter our next match.

I must also congratulate our opponents on a womderfull and exciting game. You guys changed your standard strategy and it caught us offgaurd. Well played!"
Coach Stuart Baxter

Next Match Preview - Port Ember Vs Oceani

Following their narrow 2-1 victory against Abanhfleft during Match Day 2, our national team is preparing to face off against the Oceani national team during Match Day 3, as part of the IAC9 group stages (Group E).

The upcoming match is the last match of the group stages before the Knockout Stages commences. Despite having won both their matches and leading their group, qualification is not yet garuanteed, thus making this match a 'must win' situation.

This match is to be played at the Estadio Nacional Stadium, - situated in the city of Curumba - within our gracious host nation of HUElavia. This magnificent stadium seats a whopping 100 000 fans, and is subsequently the largest and most modern stadium within the host nation.

Our own national team enters this match as match favourites, being ranked as the 38th best team in the world according to international rankings (against an currently unranked Oceani), and as current Group E leaders with 6 points after two consequetive wins. Our opponents occupies the 3rd position in the group, with 2 points after one loss and their last win against Trolleborg.

Port Ember Momentum: WW
Oceani Momentum: LW

Port Ember's Dragons managed to beat both Trolleborg (3-0) and Abanhfleft (2-1), giving them a total of 5 goals scored whilst allowing 1 - giving them a goal difference of +4. Oceani on the other hand lost against Abanhfleft (1-3), but defeated Trolleborg (2-1), scoring a total of 3 goals, allowing 4 - giving them a goal difference of -1. These statistics does not bode well for the struggling Oceani opponents.

This match marks the first time that these two teams will ever meet on an international football field.

Our own team consists out of a group of young and extremely fit players, who have been playing together for the last seven years, certainly giving them an advantage when it comes to team chemistry. They favour a very fast paced game, playing direct and high octane attacking football, attempting to overwhelm their opposition with their speed of play and extreme fitness levels.

As for the Oceani national side - Strangely, the team have still not released a roster, and plays their matches without any visible jersey numbers or names, masking this team with a sense of mystery - yet dubs them as a very strange & weird occurance.

Starting Line Up - Match Day 2

Goalkeeper (GK)(#1): Peter Smith.
Center Back (CB)(#2): Josh Richards.
Center Back (CB)(#3): Jason Lee.
Full Back (LB)(#4): Alex Kuhn.
Full Back (RB)(#5): Russel Pierce.
Attacking Midfield (AM)(#10): Ray Reddington.
Defensive Midfield (DM)(#6): Steven Packard.
Wide Midfield (LM)(#8): Jason Chamberlain.
Wide Midfield (RM)(#11): Eric Tosaír of the Tribe of Waterford
Central Forward (CF)(#7): Leon Moult.
Central Forward (CF)(#9): Danny Nicovic.

Coach Baxter announced that our team will be playing in their Primary Kit - donning White & Blue for the upcoming match.

An Analyst's Input - How do we win this one?!?

"This last match of the group stages is mixture of 'we must win to ensure qualification' - and 'we will surely win as we have the look of a stronger team'. I honestly see no reason why we should lose this derby, as we are one a roll lately, and our weird number & nameless opponents just did not display any glint of being able to beat us in this tournament. So I guess the keys to winning would be to remain humble so as to not get too overconfident, and to stick to the basic Port Emberian play of fast paced high octane football." - Gerhard Black, Football Analyst and Journalist for Port Ember Times.

Pre Match Interview with Coach Stuart Baxter:

Erica Davies:

"So coach, Oceani is up next. How are you feeling?"

Coach Baxter:

"I'm excited actually. This is the last game of the group stages, and a win here translates to us entering the knockout stages as the group winners - which is a historical first for us, and sure to be a great morale booster."

Erica Davies:

"Well said coach! So, I know you dont like to make public predictions, but may I ask you for one non the less for the upcoming match?"

Coach Baxter:

"I do indeed dislike making predictions Erica, since you personally goaded me into that back during the Baptism of Fire 70, and when I complied, the media crucified me for my perceived arrogance. Quite frankly, I am insulted by the notion of bringing up this topic, you snake. "

Erica Davies:

"Okay then... Well thats all for today - and we as a nation hope you all the luck and fortune for tomorow!"

SPACE gets No Respect from Monglechabagd either

There exist only five nations who compete always for the Independent Associations Cup for the first time and also for the 9th time. Of course, SPACE is one of those five nations. Other of these five nations to compete in the first Indepedent Association Cup and also to compete in this the 9th Cup is Drawkland, Devonta and Abanhfleft. The final is Juvencus.

Of course it is true that none of these nations is named Xannerian Wysterian Territories, the nation that was without merit granted permission to become the team of the third pot while a team such as SPACE who compete from the #1 Independent Association Cup and Silver Beach who qualifying into the round of 16 playoff is made without any respect into the fourth pot.

Now it is the final game of the group stage and SPACE will not advance to the Round of 16. They received officiating with clear bias in their match. They get no respect from the committee to organize, from the on field official and now even from opposition in other group. The media of the nation Monglechabagd speak about space as if they do not even know where it is.

TJUN-ia and Space are both new teams in the multiverse that showed poor performance In the last qualifiers towards Casadaigua & Baker Park

What story is being told in this case by the nation media of Monglechabagd? SPACE is a new team? This is the same Space that has contributed into every existing competition of Independent Associations Cup? There was no poor performance by SPACE in qualifying to Round of 16 in the most recent edition. The nation media Monglechabagd must have a mistake for SPACE and some other nation.

What is true now is that two original nations of the Indepedent Associations Cup must battle on the final day with no hopeful chance to advance into the next stage. Only the pride of a game of sport will be on the offering for Juvencus and Space to terminate the 9 Independent Associations Cup in HUElavia.

It will be a sad day of course for all fans in Space as this can not continue without any respect for the future. SPACE can not continue to enter such a tournament that does not offer any respect to its contribution of the longest time. If change can not be made to ensure Space and other nation of similar quality do not receive the respect they are deserving then it is clear the fields of Space will be empty once again as they will find another thing to occupy the resources of the national federations.

For another time, Go Astronauts!

9TH INDEPENDENTS CUP
Etnier rivals put Kelssek in the knockouts
KELSSEK – 3
Wylten 34', 76'
Langelier 61'
FUJAI – 1
Hellem 70'

Partisans of Latrobe AFC and Clayquot City might have been a little uncomfortable to see how well they seem to play together, but the efforts of Latrobe's Patrice Langelier and Clayquot's Seamus Wylten turned out to be key to secure Kelssek's spot in the knockout rounds.

Was it the gods who had seen fit to keep them apart on rival club teams? Andrea Crowe was unconcerned that hubris may bring divine wrath on our heads, or maybe she didn't understand the question.

In fact, Kelssek started off on the back foot and were nearly caught out by a long throw - or at least, a throw-in that made it an unexpectedly long way. Xavier Michaud's late run connected with the ball from ten yards out but the AS Savigny player's powerful volley went inches wide.

A few minutes later Anton Felland stripped the ball from Gabriel Lapierre and launched a 50-yard through ball for Arin Salberg, but Bernard Despatie made a sharp save off the Fujai captain.

Adrian Tremblay-Fillon had a well-struck long range attempt saved before Kelssek finally took the lead on 34 minutes. Langelier flicked on Shaheen Taleb's low cross into Wylten's path and the striker made no mistake despite the sharp angle.

Solfrid Hellem kept things interesting by heading in Peder Kamie's cross to bring the score to 2-1, prompting Andrea Crowe to send on Mats Bognador to beef up the defence. She needn't have worried as Wylten and Langelier pried open the Fujai backline six minutes later with some enthralling link-up play to leave the Clayquot City striker with a simple finish.

Getting the job done against the group's two lower-ranked teams means that advancement is assured, taking the pressure off what would otherwise be a crunch match against second seed Terre Septentrionale. "It's good but we can't take any matches off. We have to maintain a winning attitude and this could decide next round match-ups. I always think you get rewarded when you put in the work," said Kelssek captain Ruslan Demetriev after the match.

Nevertheless, Andrea Crowe might also see an evenly-matched opponent with a lot to play for the ideal opportunity to test the mettle of some players looking to establish themselves on the national team.

Kelssek: Despatie, Dumont, Fourtin, Curtin, Farahani, Demetriev, Tremblay-Fillon (Corvin 83'), Taleb (Bogdanor 74'), Ó Tuathail, Langelier (Singh 80'), Wylten.
Player of the match: Seamus Wylten
Attendance: 51,623 (Stade de Lourdes)

Game two of the IAC, and it's another scoreless draw for Reçueçn. You'd be forgiven for thinking that les licornes don't want any goals. Or maybe someone just forgot to tell them that they're supposed to put the ball into the net. Or that they can't win any games until they do that. By the time the whistle blows in Sao Salvador then, hardly anyone is watching anymore. We might have expected a higher level of football from the defending champions, or at least a little more entertainment, but it seems it is not to be.

The fans, of course, are disappointed. We had hoped to be in the position Tara and Cambray are right now: sitting pretty on six points with a guaranteed finish at the top of the group. Instead we're more than a game back in second place, with Ziwana and Monglechabagd breathing down our necks. Dropping any points in our next and final group stage game could spell and end to our participation at the tournament.

Of course, perhaps Ziwana supporters are even more worried at this point. Their draw against us means that like Reçueçn, they still haven't won a game. Like Reçueçn, they need at least a draw to advance, but most likely a win. Unlike Reçueçn, even a win can no longer assure them of making it to the knock-out rounds. Of course, their issue is less the draw just played out with Reçueçn, and more so the first loss against Tara and Cambray. In fact, a draw against the higher-seeded Reçueçn is probably good news for Ziwana, while of course a loss to the lower-ranked Tara and Cambray won't please them. Next they will play the unranked Monglechabagd, and hope for a better performance against them than the one that we had the first matchday.

We, of course, will have to put everything into beating our region-mates Tara and Cambray if we want to be sure of advancing. With two teams only a single point behind us we are in a delicate position: a loss for one of them means a win for the other, so the best we can hope for is a draw, but even then they could draw even with us on points.

If we can manage to finally score a goal and beat Tara and Cambray, then we will find ourselves finishing second in the group and likely moving on to play against Port Ember in the round of sixteen. Of course, theoretically Abanhfleft or Oceani could still take the top spot. Interestingly, Abanhfleft, the more well-known and better-established side, at least in terms of how long they've been around, are only pot two in Group E, while Port Ember, much newer on the scene, are already pot one for the IAC's purposes. Either team will present a challenge to the Reçuecians, so the team needs to find a way to pull itself together quickly. These goalless games could have ended much worse, and our future games probably will if we don't do something to start scoring.

IAC Review
Black-and-Reds in Must-Win Against TJUN-ia

Matchday 1:
Juvencus 4-3 Squornshelan Remnant States
JVC: ST#11, 23', 75'; MF#8, 36'; DF#4 56'
SRS: Petrov, 10'; Rebljeten, 43'; Vladcik, 86'

Estadio HUGames (cap. 72,000) Sega, HUElavia
Facing a match of extreme importance right away, the Black-and-Reds faced gli attacanti and came up short. The match was a thrilling affair, fought back and forth across the field with creative attacking movement from both teams. Petrov opened the scoring early for the Confederates. Ajao used his size and height to good effect, nodded a lobbed ball forward from Lomidan down to the foot of Petrov. The onrushing striker's first touch was good, and she bent the ball around the keeper for the top corner. Juvencus struck back though, tying the score on a free kick which their striker headed beyond the reach of Krieven, and taking the lead less than fifteen minutes later, on a scramble in the penalty area which, as chance would have it, fell to the feet of another attacker. Rebljeten managed to tie the match again not long before the half with a powerful shot from extreme range, but it was very much against the run of play.
The second half continued more or less how the first had ended, with Juvencus controlling possession, and pushing hard to retake the lead. Before long, they had it. The center back came forward for a corner kick, and outleaped Nakhutin for a textbook header, bouncing just in front of the goal line and evading Krieven. Things were looking fairly grim for the Black-and-Reds. The need to push more numbers forward to create offense would doubtless open opportunities at the back for gli attacanti. Sure enough, they doubled their lead on the counter with about fifteen minutes to play, much to the displeasure of Krieven. The outnumbered defenders were unable to stop the ball from being played square across the goalmouth, and there was no real chance to make a save. Some redemption came late, when Vladcik and Ajao combined on a quick one-two passing play that sent the left winger in alone against the keeper. Vladcik, who has enjoyed a real resurgence of late with Savojar club Admiral, made no mistake, and pulled his team within one. It proved too little too late though, as the Black-and-Reds could not manage another shot on target before the final whistle.

Matchday 2:
Squornshelan Remnant States 5-3 Space
SRS: Hocij, 6'; Petrov, 27', 55'; Ajao, 60'; Jzvanic 87'
SPC: Mars, 30'; Boötes 48'; Saturnia 77'

Estadio Nacional (cap. 100,000) Curumba, HUElavia
As their national media have been quick to point out. Space have quite undeservedly been one of the least regarded teams in this year's IAC. Relegated to Pot 4 in the draw and misidentified as newcomers to a tournament they have only missed once, Space have also a rough time of it on the field, losing their opening match against TJUN-ia. The Black-and-Reds seem like one of the only teams to actually be taking the Astronauts seriously, though fans from Space might wish they hadn't. Looking better than their opening performance by a country mile, the Black-and-Reds were able to jump out to an early lead, with Hocij cutting inside from her unusual spot on the right wing and blasting it left-footed toward the far post. The Chalesm left mid seems to be adjusting fine to life on the right side of the attack. About midway through the half, Petrov increased the lead to two with her second goal of the tournament. She collected a pass near the top of the box, and made a quick turn to avoid the Defender of Outpost Beta, who was rushing forward to close her down. The Keeper of the Milky Way very nearly turn it aside, but in the end the ball deflected off their hand, into the post, and from there to the back of the net.
Space were not about to go down without a fight. Defending their proud legacy of IAC competition, they surged forward from the kickoff, earning a corner kick just a couple minutes later. Tervi Oleb leaped well and headed the ball away from goal, but over the end line again. On the ensuing corner, it was the Defender of Mars whose head met the ball, smashing it just under the bar to pull within one. The teams probed and tested each other's defenses for the remainder of the half, but the only real scoring chance generated was a scramble play deep inside the Space penalty area. Ajao scuffed his shooting attempt, unfortunately, and the Keeper was able to cover the ball to end the danger. Space was on the attack again out of the locker room, and surprised the Black-and-Reds with a swift attack up the left wing. The Protector of Polaris launched a curling cross that at first seemed destined to go out for a goal kick. With so many eyes fixed on the ball, the Big Bang of Boötes was able to find some space at the far post, and shot on the volley to tie the score.
Unfortunately for space, this goal served more as a wakeup call than a rallying cry. The Confederates were organized, and meticulous in their attack off the ensuing kickoff, using quick passing in attempt to draw the defense out of position. Eventually, it paid off, and Petrov reestablished the lead with a low shot from the edge of the area, doubling her tally for the afternoon. Not long thereafter, it was Ajao's turn. The Keeper had turned Lomidan's long range effort over the bar, and Hocij sent the corner curling in to the middle of the penalty area. Ajao rose to meet it, and when the dust cleared, the Keeper was sprawling on the turf, and the ball was in the back of the net. Appeals for a foul went unanswered, and the Black-and-Reds had opened up a a second two-goal lead. Space were right back where they'd started. Saturnia was able to pull them back within one on the counter, cutting their shot back against the grain, under the outstretched legs of Oleb, and just beyond the fingertips of Krieven, but time was getting short. Finally it was Jzvanic, who came on for Petrov in the 80th, who put the final nail in the coffin, outpacing the defense with fresh legs, and showing the poise and confidence that only long experience can give by coolly chipping the Keeper. The loss ended Space's hopes of advancement, and gave the Black-and-Reds a glimmer of hope heading into the final match of the Group Stage.

Matchday 3:
Squornshelan Remnant States v TJUN-ia

San Ignatius (cap. 52,000) Itio, HUElavia

The situation at hand is very simple. The Jaguars lead the Black-and-Reds by one point in Group D standings, 4 to 3, with the two sides even on goal differential. A win for either side will assure them of advancement to the round of sixteen, while a draw helps only TJUN-ia. The Black-and-Reds, by virtue of having lost to Juvencus on the first matchday, can only advance with a win, as Juvencus would hold the tiebreaker even in the event that they lose to Space. Accordingly, the Black-and-Reds must win their final match to advance. Certainly it is a match that, on paper, they should win. TJUN-ia, capable though they have proved themselves these past two matches, are ranked outside the top one-hundred. If this Confederate team has any hope at all of redeeming its failures over the past two years, this is a match they simply must win. That added pressure is what makes the result quite a bit less certain. Can the Black-and-Reds maintain the attacking creativity they have displayed thus far in scoring eight goals through their first two matches? Can they improve their defense, which has conceded seven in that same span? The answers to both questions need to be yes if this team has any hope of matching their IAC8 performance.

Owls literally take fight to giant Drawklandians
By Trent Laughlin

HUELAVIA - Football can be a physical game, and physicality can trump any form of size advantage an opponent has. That was the theory when the Wsyterian Owls played Drawkland, a team of abnormally tall people. So when coach Bob Smith went with his tactics of wearing out opponents early and come back strong in the second half, he was not ready for what happened next. The veteran Drawkian team was ready for what came next, and they parlayed that into a 4-2 drubbing of the Owls, but in more serious news, there was a redcard thrown on Owls forward Elliot Thingle. Thingle was was being shadowed by Drawkian Giant, Dominic Southers. AN errant elbow later and Southers was on the ground. that wasn't the confrontation though as Thingle quickly apologized, but on the other hand captain Tim Rithbauer got confrontational with Southers as he believed that Southers flopped. This lead to a redcard for the captain as Rithbauer shoved player 0 to the ground and went to lay fists on Dominic but was stopped by his teammates, Southers was still given a yellow card as it appeared he did try kicking at Rithbauer but ref clamed he did so "in obvious self defence". In the end the loss of Captain Rithbauer hurt the Owls as they gave up three more goals and 1-0 game turned into an out of hand 4-2 game. THingle did well though to get multiple goals.

DRAWKLAND - 4
Appollo 21' 60'
Hunter 53'
Madison 80'

Wysterian Territories - 2
Thingle 59' 74'

TJUN-ia Update: Itio Witnesses A Miracle!

Postby TJUN-ia » Fri Mar 27, 2020 12:36 pm

Both David Seems in TJUN-ia and Li Xiu Ying in HUElavia had the same message for the Jaguars: don't give up yet....

San Ignatius in Itio may be small in comparison to over stadiums in use for IAC9, but to the Jags that didn't matter. This stadium played host to arguably the most important game in our young history as the 105th ranked Blue and Orange took on the 45th ranked Confederates from the Squornshelan Remnan States. The SRS needed to win this game to qualify for the knockouts with Juvencus, while TJUN-ia just needed to avoid defeat to qualify.

We may have held the advantage going into the game, but the Jags tried not to hold their guards down. TJUN-ia struck first in the 34th minute, Kepo Ulawaya managing to strike the ball past Stovar Krieven. But the Confederates didn't fall away so lightly and tied the game in the 39th, and quick counter attack finished by Zoban Ajao. The rest of the half of full of pressure for both offences, but it remained 1-1 at half time.

In the changing room, Li repeated that same message: "Don't give up yet".

The 2nd half began with more pressure and it looked for a long time that either this game will end in a tie or someone will make a mistake. And that someone was Tervi Oleb. The captain of the SRS made an error unfit of his wisdom, forgetting to mark Nicolas Umkala during a corner in the 73rd. Nicolas didn't waste his opportunity to head the ball in for his first ever goal, and TJUN-ia's 2nd.

In the latter stages the game seemingly started to swing toward the Jaguars. The game was eventually finished by Carlos Pique in the 87th, completing a counter attack similar to the one the Confederates pulled to get their equaliser. The final whistle blew and the TJUN-ian beched cleared to celebrate; Jaguars, Galarians, all. TJUN-ia, a few days after drawing with the 40th ranked team in the multiverse, had beaten the 45th. It is the biggest victory in our history.

With Juvencus somehow losing to Space, TJUN-ia has won Group D. It is the first time we have ever won a group in any sport.

TJUN-ia will now be in knockout football for only the 2nd time. The first was the BoF, when we lost in extra time to Ziwana. Everyone from that game is on our team, hungry to avenge what could have been back then. Our opponents at the Estadio Costeiro in HUEsillia will be the Nordiques from Terre Septentrionale. Let's hope the 2nd bite of the knockout cherry is sweeter than the first.

GO JAGS!

9TH INDEPENDENTS CUP
Lapierre rescues point against Terre Septentrionale
KELSSEK – 1
Lapierre 81'
TERRE SEPTENTRIONALE – 1
Ksiezniakiewicz 54'

After a good start in the Independents Cup, Kelssek faltered in its first real test of the tournament and needed a stroke of luck to come away with a 1-1 draw and first place in the group. Ardent supporters of our domestic league are quick to object to "KFL defending" being used to describe positional errors and poor decision-making. But with a back four all playing for Kelssek clubs, and a cascade of defensive errors on display especially as they seemed unable to cope with the apparently revolutionary tactic of the opponent having a good attacking midfielder, it's hard to know what else to call it.

Manager Andrea Crowe, every soccer fan, your mother, and her pet cat all know this is the major problem that the Voyagers need to fix if they're going to break into the top ranks of international football. But Crowe doesn't coach these players full time, and on this display overseas-based Damien Halliger and Tim Bowler will know their places in the first 11 aren't in jeopardy.

To whit, Kelssek were lucky Terre Septentrionale's strikers were both gun-shy and incredibly wasteful with their chances when they took them. Sandrine Fontaine pulled the strings all match long and must be frustrated with what the forwards did with the numerous chances she created. Ruslan Demetriev really should have been doing more to cover, too, but Joseline Fourtin and Kassel Pokorný were both constantly being pulled out of position, leading to structural chaos and unmarked strikers.

Terre Septentrionale had the ball in the net 21 minutes into the match. Social media pundits were quick to comment on goalkeeper Bernard Despatie yelling at Kassel Pokorný to pick up an unmarked Fryderyka Cwierczakiewiczowa for about six full seconds, before the 1925 Krzczonow striker received a pass and thumped it past the netminder but was ruled by video review to have handled the ball in doing so. Similar scenes greeted the first goal that counted shortly after half time. Yannick Ksiezniakiewicz rifled in a shot from 20 yards while the Kelssek coaching staff were gesturing wildly on the touchline for players to close the gaps, press harder, put a tackle in, or perhaps to take a left at the giant grapefruit and then turn right at the second stop sign.

Kelssek responded well to going behind, however, and managed to carve out a few chances once they got a handle on the match. Brayden Custworth skinned Slawomir Skrzeszewski but saw his shot rattle the crossbar with O'Byrne beaten. Gabriel Lapierre finally got the equalizer with nine minutes to go when he showed a touch of class to wrong-foot Franciszek Niedzwiecki and find the far post with a placed shot.

Kelssek: Despatie, Liadon, Fourtin, Pokorný, Douglass, Demetriev (Dionne 61'), Tremblay-Fillon, Lapierre, Ó Tuathail (Bogdanor 83'), Custworth (Wylten 72'), Langelier
Player of the match: Sandrine Fontaine

HUElavia wins Group A with a Satisfying Draw

As the tournament has progressed, HUElavia has enjoyed the joys and pleasures of hosting a massive football tournament. Fans have spent a lot of time interacting with hundreds to thousands of fans from different countries around the multiverse. Although, fans have spent equally, if not more, time watching the HUElavia National Football Team in their quest for their 1st Ever International Title. Coming into Matchday 3, Los Amarillos had secured 1st Place in Group A after their two wins against Kriegiersien and Omerica, and now played against Sajnur, who was already eliminated after losses to the aforementioned teams. HUElavia fielded their young players for the match, giving rest to the starters before their Round-of-16 Match. The match was played at Estadio Internacional, in San Rafael, capital of the Astellian culture in HUElavia.

The first half was lackluster as a few shots here and there for the team saw them being stopped by either Khadur or Vallares, or hit the post or go wide from the net for a goal kick. With the half ending at 0-0, the thousands in the stadium and millions across the country wanting more from the team.

The second half was much more spectacular as the opening goal of the match came in the 57th minute, as a cross from Siafik met the foot of Tule for a half volley that went past Vallares to make it 1-0 for the visitors, silencing the massive crowd of HUElavians. This lead was short lived, as in the 59th minute, a cross got onto the feet of Hamada, who got the ball in air with one leg, and went one on one with Khadur and tapped it between the legs to tie it at 1-1. The crowd went crazy, and the jumping and screaming from the crowd made the stadium rumble once again, while Hamada celebrated with her teammates. HUElavia had the momentum swing to their favor, and in the 67th minute, a pass from Almeida met the foot of Sissoko, who blasted it past Khadur, to make it 1-2 on the scoreline. The crowd went crazy, celebrating with passion once again, while Sissoko celebrated with the team in what was his first ever senior goal for the National Team. A few minutes later, in the 75th minute, a cross from Ocango met the foot of Ciuru, who chipped it over Vallares to make it 2-2, silencing the crowd once again as Sajnur tied it up. Sajnur tried to make another goal in an attempt to get a win, but to no avail, and the referee blew the whistle to end the match at 2-2, where the team and fans went home satisfied with the result, knowing HUElavia won Group A with 7 points.

HUElavia go into the knockouts for the 2nd consecutive time, as they will play against 69th ranked Devonta who finished 2nd in Group B at Estadio Salvador in Sao Salvador, the capital of Portuzian Culture in HUElavia. While Los Amarillos are favorites to advance, anything can happen, and the main squad will be starting the match, in hopes to advance to the Quarter-Finals for the 2nd consecutive time. It is expected to be a sold out match in the 2nd largest stadium of the tournament, where the winner will travel to Bello Mar to face off the winner of Kelssek vs Juvencus. Regardless, the HUElavian public is behind their National Team and feel optimistic that they can advance to the "Elite Eight" of the Independent Associations Championship.

FORCA HUELAVIA! VAMOS HUELAVIA! GO HUELAVIA!

The Spenson Star

The transfer window approaches, giving clubs a chance to acquire new players--and potentially managers. In many cases, retired players will try their hand at coaching. In other places, however, elite athletes are less likely to make that jump. It could be because beyond a certain level, performance is felt rather than learned, and it's hard to articulate what you did well to others. It could also be that some leagues don't go to the effort of listing who all their clubs' managers are. In Zwangzug, both conditions apply. Still, that hasn't stopped us from speculating on which players past or present might give management a try.

Martin Scallop: goes on and on about how defenders have important contributions even if they don't show up on the scoreboard. Maybe he could put it to the test in one of the leagues with high "verisimilitude" or "quality journalism," whatever that means.

Edwin Cherenkov-Nguyen: the kitmakers will be much happiers when they don't have to spell out his name, but he can still hang out on the bench in fancy clothes.

Kim Higden: The Picksall Islands are geographically and linguistically independent in some ways, if they ever fielded a team for a sub-national entities competition she would be the obvious choice. On the other hand, we just had Enitan Maclaurin as an interim with the national side, so that's kind of met our quota of "quiet goalies who come back to be managers" for the near future. Don't want to get repetitive.

Misako Tsuki: Is apparently doing some kind of coaching/support staff nonsense at Bryce College, who are decent. If Abigail Chatelenas can leverage university experience to hit the big time, why not Tsuki?

Franziska Schnee-Krull: Okay, no, hear us out--one of those small countries who keep to themselves and don't care what the world thinks about their political situation, she'd be good for some soundbytes and trying to keep the focus on the field. Maybe. Kind of.

Desmond McGowan: In somewhere like Mriin where they appreciate the strategic insights needed to succeed at "SCQ: Superceleritas Quest." (My editor has informed me that the other countries that are into SCQ don't necessarily have football teams at present so there goes that plan.)

Spencer Gleason: he can't be any crazier or more of a commie than Kirk McDonagh, and the latter held the Kelssek job for a while.

Port Emberian Dragons Tops Group E and Advances to Knockout Stages With Win During IAC9 Match Day e

Port Ember 3 - 2 Oceani

By Erica Davies - Port Ember Times Sports Journal

The Port Emberian national football team, the Dragons managed to grab their third consecutive victory during their Independent Associations Cup 9 (IAC9)  campaign against the national team of Oceani during Match Day 3.

This last match of the group stages see's our national team win the Group with ease - with three wins (out of three played), giving a total of 9 points. This sends us forth to the Round of 16 Knockout Stages, and one step closer to our first possible international trophy.

The match was played within the Estadio Nacional Stadium, - situated in the city of Curumba - within our gracious host nation of HUElavia. The country's largest stadium's 100 000 seats were a total sell-out, with a majority of Port Emberian (estimated to 70 000) fans filling both the stadium - and atmosphere with passion and support.

The Oceani national team kicked the game off to start, and immediately made it clear they will opt for a technical and passing playstyle, a well known tactic which causes difficulty for the Dragons whom favours a fast paced direct playstyle. The effectiveness of the Oceani squad allowed them to maintain a posession strangehold over the ball for the majority of the first half. Those precious few moments which the Port Emberian squad did manage to steal possession was consequently shut down with haste by a ruthless defensive effort.

The Oceani squad managed to execute world class technical skills and long passes, allowing them to press our national side hard and launch numurous attacks - eventually leading to 9 shots at goal by the end of the first half. Our star keeper Peter Smith managed to halt 7 of these with the grace of a tiger.

The first goal came when an unidentified Oceani player (confusingly this side did not release a roster, and they do not wear names/numbers on their jerseys) managed to convert an excellent header from within the box during a corner kick in minute 27.

The second goal came in minute 39 from a penalty kick, after Central Back Josh Richards was penalised for a rough tackle. Thus the half time whistle was sounded, with a devastating 2-0 lead for Oceani.

The second half commenced with a Port Emberian kick off and a surprising burst attack - Captain Ray Reddington kicked off by passing deep to the right flank to winger Eric Tosaír of the Tribe of Waterford, who continued to burst down the field, outpacing and dodging three rushing defenders, executed a world class pass to striker Leon Moult who was nearing the box, smashing the ball with the power and accuracy of a mythological dragon - deep into the bottom right corner of the sticks - making the opposition keeper look a bit confused at the events which just transpired.

The second goal came from Eric Tosaír of the Tribe of Waterford, whom executed a marvelous bicycle kick to slot the ball in between the sticks from a corner kick in minute 57, equalising the scoreboard.

By now the frustration and fatique was clear on the faces of the Oceani squad, as the ever growing fast pace of the match, combined with the blistering tropical heat took its toll. The Port Emberians on the flip side, seemed as if they just arrived on the pitch - still being fresh and even smiling all around.

The last and winning score finally came in minute 76 after a quick link up between captain Reddington, and star striker Danny Nicovic finally managed to break the stalward defence and created gaps as Nicovic dribbled past the last three defenders with grace, slotting the ball home, even making it look easy.

As the game ended, it was clear that the team had won the match, the group and qualified for the knockout stages - the squad and the large crowd of Port Emberian supporters alike celebrating passionately.

"Our opponents surely played an impressive game and have a bright future ahead of them if they keep on working on their basics. My lads managed to pull through in the end and allowed our attacking flair to rule the day once more. We now know what to work on in order to prepare for the knockout stages, which we are very excited about! " Coach Stuart Baxter

Port Ember Momentum: WWW
Reçueçn Momentum: DDW

This match marks the first time that these two teams will ever meet on an international football field.

Our own team consists out of a group of young and extremely fit players, who have been playing together for the last seven years, certainly giving them an advantage when it comes to team chemistry. They favour a very fast paced game, playing direct and high octane attacking football, attempting to overwhelm their opposition with their speed of play and extreme fitness levels.

Our opponents are a highly defencive orientated team, playing safe and counter attacking football. Their national team consists mainly of older, veteran players, giving them an edge with technical skills, but at an disadvantage when comparing their fitness levels against our own young team.

Starting Line Up - RO16

Goalkeeper (GK)(#1): Peter Smith.
Center Back (CB)(#2): Josh Richards.
Center Back (CB)(#3): Jason Lee.
Full Back (LB)(#4): Alex Kuhn.
Full Back (RB)(#5): Russel Pierce.
Attacking Midfield (AM)(#10): Ray Reddington.
Defensive Midfield (DM)(#6): Steven Packard.
Wide Midfield (LM)(#8): Jason Chamberlain.
Wide Midfield (RM)(#11): Eric Tosaír of the Tribe of Waterford
Central Forward (CF)(#7): Leon Moult.
Central Forward (CF)(#9): Danny Nicovic.

Coach Baxter announced that our team will be playing in their Primary Kit - donning our traditional White & Blue kit for the upcoming match.

An Analyst's Input - How do we win this one?!?

"This upcoming match is bound to be an interesting one. This team is ranked higher than us on the international rankings, yet they have fared much worse than us in this tournament so far. Thus we enter with a momentum advantage, yet its possible for our opponents to make a massive comback and return to their 'Glory Days'. Both teams have a strikingly different play - they are highly defensive, and we are highly attacking. If we are to win this one, we must apply constant and overwhelming pressure, tiring out their older players, and not give them a chance to counter attack." - Gerhard Black, Football Analyst and Journalist for Port Ember Times.

Pre Match Interview with Coach Stuart Baxter:

Erica Davies:

"Congatulations on winning the group stages in group E coach! How does it feel?"

Coach Baxter:

"Well its the first for our nation to do so in an international tournament, so its obviously a great feeling. It surely builds morale I can tell you that much."

Erica Davies:

"So how do you feel about facing Reçueçn next?"

Coach Baxter:

"Well I'm excited! They are definitely a strong team, as the second highest ranked team left in the tournament - yet we have performed a lot better than they during the group stages. So, all in all, we look forward to a hard fought but beautifull game."

Erica Davies:

"Well said coach! Well thats all for today - and we as a nation hope you all the luck and fortune for tomorow!"

SILVEIRA'S MAGIC FOOT
Daskel 0-1 New Lusitania
@Estádio Salvador, San Salvador
(Att: 83 241)

Following from their draw with the Free Republics, the team travelled to the lusophone Salvador, where they were well received. New Lusitania made a few changes for the match against Daskel, Guerreiros came in for Vinagrete, Horta started in front of Mário were the original changes, with António Lopes coming in for an indisposed Patríce. After the national anthems, the match began to a practically full stadium. Daskel had a better start getting two shots on target in the first twenty minutes. New Lusitania woke up after the half hour mark, finding their first shot on target, a good kick from Fernando from just outside the box. Back from the dressing rooms, the second half was a lot more promising for the Selecção, Jota almost putting it in right after the whistle blew. The goal would ultimately come on 75 minutes, when Silveira would curve the ball into the back of the net after a pass by Fernando. It was the goal they needed and the goal that stood. Both teams attempted to either equalise or secure the win, respectively but to no avail as the lone goal stood. FULL TIME: 0-1

DARING DEVONTA
Devonta 0-1 New Lusitania
@Estádio Nacional, Curumba
(Att: 96 853)

Going into the final matchday, Devonta knew that they had secured progression - Devonta had the points. New Lusitania had to get a draw to guarantee as the Free Republics could jump out at the last moment and get in, considering they had scored more goals, and had a superior goal difference (+2, to New Lusitania's +1), following a draw between the two teams. As the Selecção headed to the capital, they knew they couldn't take it easy in the final game. Patríce returned to goal after feeling better, as Vinagrete maintained his position at Left Back, as Leiteiro joined Pereira, in for Cancela. Nevais returned despite a good match from Azinheira against Daskel, with Mário, Fernando, Gama in midfield as well as Veiga further up, supporting Silveira and Jota, the usual double up front. Devonta had been impressive and were with the main side as they sought a flawless record before they departed for the knockouts. A practically full National Stadium welcomed both sides awaiting what would be a great match. Devonta would have a goal disallowed early on. This decision would halt the game as the Selecção's opposition attempted to contest this notion. According to the officials, there was a handball situation from the attacking player. International viewership also had their own questions in this decisions as none of the televised angles seemed to provide a clear answer, with the decision reverting the score back to 0-0. This helped New Lusitania a bit as the news of a 1-0 score from the Free Republics appeared in the stadium. Back in Curumba, the game was still level both in score and statistics, as both teams had a whopping six shots on target by forty minutes of play, the goalkeepers being the clear men of the match up to now. In the start of the second half, things calmed down a bit, though there was still some cracking football in the midfield. The hour mark yet again showed New Lusitania the goal, as Mário sent the ball high up in the air landing next to Veiga that managed to volley it in easily. It was the goal they needed, but Devonta wasn't going to give up that easily. A corner soon after saw them hit the post and later on the bar - the pressure was well and truly on. Over in Portimão the Free Republics were dominating which meant that the goal couldn't have come at a better time. Yet another game in which New Lusitania scored the one goal, an emerging pattern but one that's been good enough for now as the full whistle blew. It does pose if they can take on the bigger teams but as they say it's a bridge to cross when we get there. FULL TIME: 0-1
