Sajnuran National Football Team

Sajnur's national football team is in Huelavia for IAC9, and is looking to improve on the quarter final achievement of the previous tournament in Recuecn. Having lost to the hosts and eventual champions last time, Sajnur will hope to improve and make the country's first ever semi final in any football tournament. Sajnur has been drawn in Group A with hosts Huelavia, IAC veterans Omerica, and a new footballing nation in Kriegiersien.

Huelavia were given the right to host this tournament after making it all the way to the final last time out and their fans, of which there will be many in Huelavia's huge stadiums, will be backing them to win the whole thing this time out. The yellow and blue play a form of football that is biased toward attack, but not nearly to the degree of Sajnur. Their 4-2-3-1 would be considered a defensive formation to our fans, used by the likes of FK Foaspra, but the Huelavian style has the wide midfielders pushed upfield and contributing to the attack much more. Another thing to watch out for is the fact that their wide player can all play on both sides of the pitch, and we may see them switch sides during the game to throw off the Sajnuran defenders. Given that our fellows in The South Pacific have rocketed up to 23rd in the world after qualifying for the last World Cup, they will be a very hard team to deal with.

Omerica is a traditional powerhouse among nations outside the three main footballing confederations, and indeed won the 7th IAC just a few years ago, but they currently sit 98th in the KPB world rankings, having not participated in the last World Cup qualiying cycle. Nevertheless, they will want to improve on their round of 16 result in Recuecn, and they will have the belief they can do it. They were in Group E with Huelavia at the last IAC, and beat them 3-1 on their way to the top of the group, but a 1-0 loss to New Lusitania and the Algarves punted them out early. A traditionally offensive team with a 4-3-3, they will pose serious trouble to our flanks, and the likes of Jessie Beckett will look to get past Taulant Haji and company.

As for Kriegiersien? Well we know basically nothing, except that they apparently play in volleyball bikinis. And they're all male. It'll be a sight, that's for sure.

IAC 9: Group Stage Preview

It's another IAC, but the feeling of optimism that so infused our last appearance at this increasingly storied tournament just isn't there for many Confederate fans. Second seed in our group, we're still statistically likely to advance, but the draw, while providing an opportunity, has also served up two dangerous teams to nip at our heels.

Group D
Juvencus (40) - Juvencus, not unlike ourselves, are a team just on the cusp of the multiverse's top-32, but have gone through a rough patch of late. They qualified for World Cups 80 and 82, but have struggled since that time, seeing their ranking slip from 28th, to 35th, to 40th. This part of the group draw, at least, can hesitantly be termed fortunate for the Black-and-Reds, as Juvencus are the lowest ranked of the Pot 1 teams. The question is, are gli Attacanti poised for a resurgence, or will their backward slide continue? The Black-and-Reds' opening match will be against Juvencus, and the result will be of vital importance, setting the tone for the group stage. A bad result could doom the SRS to a third straight disappointing tournament.

SRS (45) - Oof. This is not where we expected to be this year. There were real hopes of qualification for World Cup 84, and even after the struggles in qualifying, expectations of a good run in the Cup of Harmony, and possibly even a championship. None of that materialized, and instead of edging their way closer to the top-32, the Black-and-Reds took a step back, their ranking back in line with what it was after World Cup 82. Under interim manager Kornelie Tamela, this team, mostly still composed of veterans, will have the unenviable task of trying to follow up their third place finish from IAC 8 and correcting their recent form.

TJUN-ia (105) - Relative newcomers to internationstatal football, TJUN-ia made a respectable showing in the 71st Baptism of Fire, knocked out in extra time by Ziwana, whom the Black-and-Reds became all too well acquainted with during WC84 qualifying, no shame there. During qualifying, the Jaguars again performed respectably, finishing dead center in group 11. Their most notable results were an early home draw against Taeshan, who eventually finished second in the group, and their results against Geektopia and Savojarna. Both those teams were considered to be well above the Jaguars in class at the time, but TJUN-ia managed a win and a draw against each. But for some unfortunate results against Balqia, they might have finished quite a bit higher. The verdict: this is an upset-minded team.

Space (UR*) - The hosting committee may have no respect for the Astronauts, but they are without a doubt the most dangerous team in Pot 4. They have a long history in the IAC. Their last three entries into the competition have resulted in advancement from the Group Stage to the round of Sixteen. Our teams have met once before, in the most recent IAC, where the Black-and-Reds eliminated the Astronauts on their way to their third place finish. It was an extremely closely fought match, scoreless after ninety minutes, we needed extra time to finish them off. There's no reason to expect anything less than another tenacious performance from Space, and they're a definite threat to make their fourth appearance in the round of sixteen in as many attempts.

Overall a close group, the lowest ranked team from Pot 1, middle-of-the-pack teams from Pots 2 and 3, and the best team from Pot 4 will do that. I'd be very surprised if any team manages a full nine points. Seven should be enough to win the group, and tiebreakers will likely be necessary to separate second from third.

HUNGER FOR GLORY: A GUIDE TO IA9

Thirty-two teams will make their way to the tropical island nation of HUElavia to compete in this edition of the Independent Associations Cup, organised by the IFF. Though it had a tough time in reaching where it is today, the IFF is now established firmly with the creation of domestic competition as well as national. The IA, now in its ninth edition is now filled with some of the most competitive teams out there and continues to work towards becoming the fourth international force of football.

HUElavia is a lusophone and multicultural island nation with its capital situated in Curumba, where all roads lead in this tournament. The cities are all well spread around the nation meaning quite a bit of travel between games, a factor that can influence teams, especially later on in the tournament where strains of a month of football starts to be felt. However, what might be the greatest influencer of the game should be the climate itself - Tropical and Subtropical for the most part being hot and humid, particularly in the South where all three of New Lusitania's venues are situated as well as the Final, in the capital city. Currently, autumn begins in HUElavia meaning that it still carries that peak summer weather where the conditions are particularly harsh. For this the Selecção has been preparing in São Jorge do Mar, where the climate expecting their familiarity with the conditions to provide them a special edge. The final problem is the timetable of games. To cater for other audiences outside the continent, such as New Lusitania in Europe, some matches will be played in the middle of the afternoon in blistering heat. No doubt there will be cooling breaks throughout the tournament's matches, but it adds yet another challenge for many of the nations to overcome.

THE ROAD TO CURUMBA
Part Two - The Groups

Group B - Our group, a Group of Challenging Proportions

Group B is certainly no easy catch including two very experienced sides and a question mark. So who are the Lusitanians' opponents?
The Free Republics are our first match in San Rafael, a Spanish-cultured city. A game where New Lusitania will need all the help and support they can get, playing against the best ranked team in the competition and the 14th best team in the world. At the last World Cup, fans across the world will remember that they left in the first round despite winning two games, after Baker Park beat them 2-4 in the final game to progress on goal difference. They aren't to be underestimated and will attempt to score at the first chance provided. This will be a real baptism of fire in this edition of the IAC.
The big question mark is our second game, Daskel, in the lusophone locality of San Salvador. It's a must win, but without much information on them, what can we expect? This is the case in every group, where all teams are unranked. All other 24 teams will have this on their minds and it provides some advantage to the unranked teams going into game one.
Devonta meanwhile is best team in pot three having the nice rank of 69th globally. In the last World Cup, they were 4th in their qualifying group tied with third placed Sajnur on goal difference. They got some good results in that cycle and despite not being present at the 76th Cup of Harmony they aren't easy opponents. We play Devonta on the final matchday at the National Stadium, in Curumba.

Group A: Hosts Have Hardship Ahead?

Good question. No easy pickings here either. The hosts, HUElavia, are currently with a young generation that feel up to the challenge that's been given to them. Well meanwhile in the IAC, they've got home advantage for starters and a football fever country such as HUElavia will have huge support throughout the tourney. They are the defeated finalists having lost to hosts Reçueçn 3-1 in IAC7. At the World Cup they too departed the World Cup, but on Head to Head in favour of Banija - they too with six points. The future looks bright for them either way, but at home they'll be hoping to right their wrong from the seventh edition...
In their group, enter Omerica which you may remember were champions of IAC7, a tournament in which they defeated Drawkland, revenge for the previous edition in Mercedini where they were defeated on penalties For one reason or another they didn't participate in the last World Cup, which gives them a chance to also give something more unexpected here.
With them is Sajnur, the team which was third in their qualifying group, behind Turori and "95X", making their way to the Cup of Harmony which was extremely rocky, just like the Selecção's own. They still have the talent to cause an upset and it's a team to watch in this group.
Finally, Kriegiersien - a nation that although popping up from time to time can have interesting results in the group's finish considering their last tournament, IAC6 where they

Group C: Group of Possiblity?

The press have said so and in such, make people pay some attention to this group. Kelssek are the big hitters, making it to the Round of Sixteen of Harmony'76 with Terre Septentrionale, the best Pot Two team, joining them. Kelssek managed to reach the Quarters of IA8 before being knocked out by the hosts with Terre Septentrionale just about missing the next round in third place, although later on in the Cup of Harmony, the Nordics had the better tournament losing in the final 6-2 to Pasarga meaning there's not much between them and hopefully a good game for everyone to watch!
With them are Fujai, who progressed to the knockouts where they lost to Drawkland on extra time in Reçueçn, but can they go one better this time, despite their tough group? They certainly do add to the interest and possibilities of sending a contender out in the first phase. Unranked Fleuronordicia return to the IAC as well after a respectable five points last time. They played the Septentrionale team last time, having drawn 3-3 in Group B sending the Nordics out with them. With no team being put aside by pundits it is certainly a group wide open.

Group D: Established Sides and Team Returns

The SRS despite being a pot two side were the most successful in the group in the last IAC, finishing third after beating New Lusitania in extra time in the quarter finals but being defeated by HUElavia 1-0, beating Drawkland in Heldingen shortly after. They are one of the favourites after strong performances no doubt, despite their hiccup in the Cup of Harmony '76. In their group however the top seed is Juvencus, which finished four points off progression in World Cup Qualifying Group 10 after a highly disappointing IAC8 where they finished last in their group with just three points, in part due to the federation being forced to send younger, more inexperienced players instead of the main side due to fixture build-up.
Space also returns for this edition, as the final frontier joins Group D after a Round of 16 exit where they were beaten by the SRS by a respectable 1-0 margin despite being unranked and continuing to be so. Their ranked opponent is TJUNia, which finished 6th in Qualifiers Group 11, topped by the Free Republics. Although outside the favouritism circle, we know that that doesn't mean much in the IAC.

Group E: Ups and Downs

In its most part, Group E consist in teams that have had their ups and downs over the years. Port Ember is the top seed after reaching the World Cup where their extremely tough Equestria-Taeshan-Apox group meant they left without a single point. A team on the rise, they can certainly go far, should their path permit them. On the opposite end, there's Abanhfleft which has been in something of a slump and therefore a rebuilding, which will be hopefully unveiled in this tournament. Leading up to HUElavia, they failed to qualify to the World Cup (3rd, Group 2, under Banija and Brenecia) and weren't invited to the Cup of Harmony. This will be a good test to see if this team can bounce back into the powerhouse it was.
With them are Trolleborg, a team which has the whole world talking. At first glance, world rank 70 is nothing special, until you realise they managed it in one cycle. Baptism of Fire winners, they then finished a respectable fifth in Qualifying and were subsequently invited as a breakthrough team to the Cup of Harmony where they were knocked out after a 3-1 loss to Brusseldorf in the final matchday meaning they stayed third with seven points. The world supported the underdog during this tournament, they can now say they have some experience under their belt and will try to prove they weren't a one-cycle wonder and with this group they certainly have that ability. In World Cup Qualification it is to note they played their opponents, Abanhfleft, where they drew 3-3 away and beat the Fleftians 3-2 at home, which builds a good precedence and rivalry for the IAC match in the final group day in Sega.
Last but not least, the question mark, Oceani. A maritime sounding name, they have yet to participate in recent tournaments so only time will tell what they can do and their ability.

Group F: The First Hurdle in a Defence Effort

Group F is indeed that first moment in the journey to defend the title, at least for holders Reçueçn who beat current hosts HUElavia at home last time. A tongue twister of a name for some, Reçueçn has steadily climbed into 28th ranked worldwide, making it to World Cup 84 but then only getting three points after a solid qualifiers' performance. The challenge is set up, the stakes just as high as always, but can they breakthrough the pressure to do an unprecedented two consecutive wins here in HUElavia?
Before they can leave the group they'll have fierce competition, namely Ziwana. Ziwana had had an overall good cycle before they reached "CoH'76" where they got placed in the same group as New Lusitania. Just like the Selecção, they struggled and in the end finished fourth not progressing due to their head to head record with the Lusitanians, a tight 3-2 loss. With them are also Monglechabagd, who despite being unranked is a known team, having participated in the previous edition of the tournament where they finished last in their group with one point, despite showing glimpses of strength such as the final match against Tamgu (6-4). Finally, the pot three team, a debutant, Tara & Cambray. They didn't have the flashiest of World Cup preliminaries having only nineteen points and finishing in penultimate place, despite some good moments. The IAC is a tournament where you can build a team though, so could they surprise anyone this time?

Group G: An Early Battle

One of the more exciting matchups, Group G where Darkmania and Drawkland face off in an exciting tussle in Itio this Tuesday. Drawkland has had a history in this tournament, having won IAC6 and hosted IAC7. At the World Cup they qualified in second behind Farfadillis. Despite this, they exited in the group stage, with no points after fellow group teams, Nephara, Baker Park and the Free Republics all finished on six points each. Drawkland have been pretty consistent in this tournament though finishing New Lusitania's dreams in IAC7, where they eventually lost to Omerica. Darkmania on the other hand, finished fourth in their Qualifying Group, and weren't invited to the "CoH". The 64th ranked nation is now too attempting to return to greener pastures they once knew and will use the IAC as a platform for such.
Despite being contested by some, the XWT or Xannerian Wysterian Territories were an unranked pot three team. Although their mother nation, Xanneria, is a respected side of sport in the three regions, this Territory outside will make it's debut in this tournament, just like Imperial Joseon, the fourth team in this group.

Group H: An Open Door

Group H is the last group, which features some good clashes like all others. Zwangzug are set to be one of the contenders as they are one of the few here that can say they made it to the World Cup, albeit finishing last in their group. This isn't indicative of anything of course, considering that Drawkland also had that fate despite being one of the best teams out there.
The pot two team would be 66th-ranked Poafmersia, which had a respectable qualifiers path finishing third behind Nephara and Siovanija & Teusland, which would lead to an invitation to, you guessed it, the Cup of Harmony, where they would be knocked out in the groups stage. Lusophones and Usual appearance in the tournament Lisander are the pot three team in this group. They had a turbulent cycle, as they are one of many teams currently in rejuvenation and attempting to rebuild, finishing seventh in their group. They got invited to the Cup of Harmony nonetheless and competed in New Lusitania's group (2-2 result Vs.New Lusitania) and progressed to the Round of Sixteen where they featured in a 6-8 classic against Terre Septentrionale, albeit losing the match. This proves they're up for the challenge and means there's more than meets the eye in this group.
For Silver Beach, it's been a while. The last time we saw them had been at World Cup 80's Cup of Harmony 72 where they left in the group stages, meaning that five cycles later, they're unranked once more. This proves that this is a team that can do something but that's been out of the game for a while.

Waiting for the ride
By Valderama Josei (@ValdeGOL)

With the upcoming Independent Associations Cup 9 just around the corner, we're making a quick highlight of our national squad.

Daskel soccer was formed just a couple of years ago. In a nation dominated by baseball, soccer is growing on a healthy pace. The best soccer league in Daskel is the University Unión, where almost all players of our national squad come from. UNIUN is the synonym of Good soccer in the country, but Will it be enough for the international stage? We're currently unranked, and the group selection was really fair, even recognized for that by the Daskelian Federation of Soccer.

Three days ago was held the last training session in Mautineso before the kick-off. The team seemed focused, with energy to battle their first war outside Daskel. One strong quality of the Astrals is their superb Penalty kick and goaltending, as seen in the last training game against University of Ástor Squad.

The calendar of Daskel games is the following:

Devonta vs Daskel (Estadio Hueti, Jinaqa)
Daskel vs New Lusitania and the Algarves (Estadio Salvador, Sao Salvador)
Daskel vs Free Republics (Estadio Porto, Portimao)

Stay tuned for more action! Support your local Astrals!

"I don't have much time because my flight to HUElavia's just been called, so just a bunch of things about your Independents Cup preview. It needs a lot of work, ok? It's concise, gets to the point, and doesn't waste the reader's time. That's everything we don't need. So I want-... Yes, I said, we do not want those things. Look, this is about stretching out some thin gruel to make it look like there's a lot of stuff there even though it's actually packed with filler, yeah? So let's begin."

"Okay. In the team lineups, you have players all listed out by team, right? Now, instead of previewing the likely starters in a single line, make each player's name a new line. Even better, on a separate paragraph. So, Bernard Despatie, enter, enter, Thamior Liadon, enter, enter, Joseline Fourtier, enter, enter, you get it? If someone's reading on mobile, you can take up their entire screen that way, it's awesome."

"You still with me? Right, another thing. More fluff. No need for imagination, or to tell people things they couldn't otherwise find out. Just use cliches, they only need to be vaguely relevant to what you're writing about, and you don't even have to bother changing the phrases. Every team is known for their whatever defence, their whatever attack, world class, dangerous, impressive. Do that for every team, make up phantom strengths and weaknesses, you just need words on a screen, right? And you know what, every attribute can be another heading. Basically I want you to press enter on your keyboard a lot more."

"So you're also presenting information in a very clean, no-nonsense way. Rank, 35, best performance, second round. You can turn those into complete sentences which take longer to read and more importantly, look longer. And repeat that over and over again. Instead of 'rank: 35', 'this team is ranked thirty-fifth in the world by the official Kaze-Progressa-Bedistan ranking system. In the last tournament contested by this national team, they went to the second round of the Cup of Harmony. They are an excellent team with many good players who all know each other personally, and excited fans who attend their matches and watch them on television in large crowds.' And you can just copy and paste for the next team. Lather, rinse, repeat. It's easy stuff, this."

"An another thing that can take up more space and stretch it out is to just appropriate the images that the hosting committee supplied in the media kit. It's not technically plagiarism if you cite it, right? At least that's what I told my TA, and they nearly kicked me out of university, but the point is, I still graduated. Massive pictures of stadiums, maps, again you just want to give the appearance that holy crap, there's a lot of content here, and it's not just cranked out to fill space at all. Our own graphics can also be unnecessarily large and stacked on top of each other. Heck, this is why our logo graphic is so huge, too."

"It's fine, you're still new at this. You'll learn over time. When in doubt, just add line breaks. Ok, I'm getting on the plane now, Ralph can help you with the SEO and publishing stuff. Bye."

Owls steal point from Joseon
By Trent Laughlin

HUEALAVIA - With a small population of 215,100, the Owls of the Wysterian Territories didn't have options that larger nations such as Darkland or Dawkmania, and their Pool 4 mate in group G was Joseon, a team who has a well known developmental squad were also in a group, known now as the Group of Death. Could the Owls survive? So far yes. Running a tight defensive plan, the Owls were able to wear out the Joseon team and come away with a 2-2 draw. Joseon got out to an early start, scoring two goals over the first 25 minutes. An attack on the Owls defense was kept up during the first half as the Owls strategy of laying low till the offense got deep in their territory worked. Despite two goals given up early keeper Harvey Hoyer showed why he's one of the best keepers in Xanneria's Beta Division.

The strategy worked! by the start of the second half, the Owls could turn the tables and pressure the Josen team. in minute 58 a breakthrough. Tim Rithbauer, the captain, passed over to midfielder Tim Drew, drew then stuttered and passed it to a break away from Elliot Thingle. Thingle got the ball by an out of place keeper and scored, making it 2-1! The pressure was on! Then the tie came and from an unkown source, well by that i mean a backup player. Always great to see an underdog do well and Junbug Sporting Club player Alfonso Richards. Richards was subsituted in in the 65th minute as Mattias Broussard was clutching has ankle after an attack on the ball. Richards came in and in the 74th minute he got a ball by the Joseon keeper and that would be it for scoring. Joseon made some defensive substitutes and both teams ended up playing for the tie at the end. But for the small Wysterian Territory it was a great show and to get a point in the IAC is a great showing for the Owls.

Wysterian Territories - 2
Thingle 58'
Richards 74'

Imperial Joseon - 2
??? 17'
??? 25'

TJUN-ia Update: In Space, The Respect Doesn't Matter

Postby TJUN-ia » Mon Mar 23, 2020 11:00 am

Jaguar Football is back (finally), and TJUN-ia knew what to expect from Space.
Don't let their un-ranked status fool you, their a big deal in the world of IAC.

Which makes it more surprising that we won this game.

The only goal from the Estadio Bendito in San Franco was, ironically, from Spanish-speaking Pedro Vasquez when he connected the pass from captain Jeff Donaldson in the 71st minute.

The real chaos from this group came from the Estadio HUGames in Sega as the top 2 on paper, Juvencus (40th) and the Squornshelan Remnant States (45th), dueled in a competitive game that would of left Segata Sanshiro proud.
The game was back-and-forth but in the end gli Attacanti prevailed 4-3 over the Confederates.

The Jaguars will face Juvencus next, at the Estadio Sino in Bacnano, in a Top 2 clash that could make or break TJUN-ia's chances in HUElavia. GO JAGS!

Kriegiersien National “B-Team” loses first match against host 0-2

HUElavia 2–0 Kriegiersien

Surprisingly coach and former National team player Haudels decided to play with the reserve players against HUElavia, so that the already young Kriegiersien team had an overall age of 20 years on the field.
“We had expected different opponents before and had less time to prepare in the confusing last days. Against the host I saw no chance to win. So we are concentrating on Omerica and Sajnur”, the coach explained.

The team played very defensive with a 5-4-1, even though some rather called it ‘locking the own penalty area’.
“We did good, I hadn’t expect to lose by such a small margin”, the coach seemed pleased.

Critics say that it was luck to receive only so few goals and that the team, consisting mainly out of talented, but young players from the presidents club, Timesteam, capital club FC Schoenwetter and traditional club FC Muhr, lacks the quality to reach the next round.

Sajnur is ambitious but could be irritated by the jerseys (if they knew that nudity is mandatory in Kriegiersien and what happens at goal celebrations…) and the team of Ex-champ Omerica has been mysterious until now.

It is a hard group.

Daskel fells 2-4, brings hope through scoring
By Josei Valderama (@ValdeGOL) and Marco Reisai (@Reisai7)

(DVN) Devonta 4–2 Daskel (DKL)

JINAQA -- Daskel Soccer had their first international game in HUElavia, losing to Devonta's team 4 to 2.

Action in Estadio Hueti started heated from the beginning, and was a test for Daskel's defense. A couple of errors by defensemen hurt the team during first half of the game, where Devonta made an inmediate statement through scoring. Goalkeeper. The next 45 minutes were better for Daskel. It looks like coach Galaro made the right shift of gears for the second half fof the game, after changing Nicoras Alqui for Emilio Peumo, a veteran of Daskelian Soccer. Peumo (57') and Tama (81') scored for team Daskel, but couldn't equal Devontans four goals.

After a Good analysis with our partner and former player, Marco Reisai, we come up with the 5 keys for Daskel

5 Keys for the next games

5. Touma -- Touma had a stellar game today. It may not be obvious by the final score, but his performance secured the team from many scoring opportunities for Devonta. We also consider he didn't have any responsibility in the four goals against the national squad. Playing with Touma as a pillar, and giving him all the security he needs to make his job can be a game-changer for the next games.

4. The Defense -- Daskel's defense in not bad, but not enough if the team wants to am high. Players like Rosal and Aos need to reach their full potential to give the team a strong defensive line.

3. Scoring -- Daskel scored two goals today in adverse situations. Scoring is one of Daskel's strong qualities, and they need to keep this Rolling. Keep working on making fans scream "GOL" and we'll have a winner.

2. Newcomer's fears -- We understand our team is Brand new into the International ground, but they cannot submerge themselves into the fear of failure. The team is obviously still beating those fears, but once they have it tamed, they'll start to work like the well-oiled machine named "team" they are, and play with ease. We believe Daskel soccer absolutely can overcome this rust.

5. Peumo -- We all noticed a big change on the team when Peumo entered the field. The 28 years old has the experience and leadership to help the team in this kind of situations. Coach Galaro has the final Word, but having Peumo on the starting line-up may be a booster for his teammates.

TEAM HISTORY
This is the official roster, featuring the Elite Eleven, an independent squad of Drawkians who have played all sports at a professional level for a confusingly long time. The old Kick Corps has been essentially removed, the players let go, and replaced by this squad of ridiculously skilled, annoyingly arrogant, and possibly immortal sportsmen. Nobody knows where they came from, or why DISC decided to replace the Kick Corps with them, but here they are. Just don't ask the baseball fans about them.
Drawkian soccer, and indeed, sporting in general, is mostly offensive-minded. This is reflected in the style indicator and in the formation. Drawkian soccer has not really been exposed to outside influences, and thus may look or feel strange to those used to "normal" football. Nevertheless, the Eleven are still good at what they do, and prize in an enduring game, moving the ball around nearly constantly and keeping energy going, aiming to tire out the opposing team. Of course, Drawkians aren't humans, but you can read about that elsewhere. Despite the fact that usually soccer is a female-only sport in Drawkland, the Elite Eleven have overturned that caveat as the higher-ups deemed them a suitable replacement in the interim as the real Kick Corps hides away for a few cycles and gets their shit back together.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my Scorers: Yes
Choose Scoring Events: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes
RP Injuries to my Players: Yes
Godmod Injuries to my Players: Yes
Yellow Card my Players: Yes
Red Card my Players: Yes
Godmod Other Events: Yes
As far as these go, I'm fair game for anything. You should know what is and isn't drastic RP, and if you think your RP is on the drastic side, TG me first. But I'm still basically up for anything.
I'd like to request that injuries or cards don't do anything outside of the scope of a single game or maybe 2. Don't want anything tournament or cycle-ending. Red cards should be limited to late knockout stages, and I'd probably think that there should be no more than 2 players red carded per tournament.
The Elite Eleven are sorta oddballs. I mean, they're a group of 11 dudebros, but they're supposedly immortal or something. Keep that in mind.

Disclaimers of various sorts:
I don't know very much about soccer. If I RP something weird, it's because I have little to no experience with this sport. But whatever.
If you have any questions about anything involving me, this team, my nation, this competition, life, etc., feel free to telegram me.

Fujai (fu:'jaɪ, foo-yEYE) is a small island nation of just over 7 million residents, located in the north of the Polarii continent in The West Pacific. While it has a long history of domestic football, it never has been a substantial player on the international scale. The Independents' Cup 8 was Fujai's first international football competition, where the Landslag made it to the Round of 16 before being knocked by Drawkland out in a high pitched match ending 5-4 AET. In the short time since then, the team has made it to the Round of 16 at the Baptism of Fire 71, played in its first World Cup, though didn't make it close to qualifying.

The Landslag is made up of the finest players in Fujai, though few would be considered of truly international quality. It is sponsored by the Fujansk Fotbollforbund (FjFF), a member of Fujansk Idrottsforbund (Fujansk Sports Union) through the Kulturministerjon (Ministry of Culture). Most Landslag players come from Fujai's top league, Fyrstserien, though a few come from the second division, Annarserien, and one comes from a university team. While Fujansk clubs are more equal in skill than the average league, the four most dominant teams are to be Solbakken IL and Bruland IF from the capital of Keiserholde, Trondsnes FF from Strafsund, and Almoren IL from Almoren in the north.

Editor's note on gender: Fujansk culture historically recognizes 4 main genders, though in the last century, gender has been used as a continuum without specific categories (though there are some general categories of expression). Since the Fujansk language does not have gendered pronouns, most Fujar choose choose to use gender-neutral pronouns, such as they/them when interacting in the common tongue. All players on the Landslag use they/them pronouns.

Translator's note: Landslaget translates to "The National Team," while Landslag translates to "National Team." In the common tongue, one would say "the Landslag did well" or "Landslaget did well," not "the Landslaget did well." This is because the Fujansk language uses suffixes to create definite nouns instead of articles. See Den Fujanske Ordboken (The Fujansk Dictionary) for more information.

SPACE upset by losing to TJUN-ia

It was so disappointment for SPACE in the Independent Associations Cup 9 HUELAVIA competition losing a match in the opening to TJUNIA. It is a little history of TJUNIA the team is making the first match in the history of the Independent Associations Cup. It is a very different situation on space who have compete always in the Independent Associations Cup and have qualify for the Round of 16 in the prior three edition of the tournament that they have been included for.

Now for this time, SPACE gets no respect in the cup of associations. The SPACE team are the last in the group to be drawn. It is not known the logic that drives the decision. SPACE and another nation called SILVER BEACH also gets no respect. These are the teams that put the bread and the butter on the Independent Associations Cup. They come from afar to be top competitors and challenge the nations for the victory. Now the time is for a chance. The team from SPACE shows up in HUElavia and receives no respect. They did not receive respect from the group draw when the team of Wysteria Xanneria amazingly receives a free pass into the third selection for the group stage where SPACE and SILVER BEACH do not get the respect of this selection. Now the teams like SPACE are in a trouble spot losing a match in the first day to make a return to the round playoffs difficult.

In the match against TJUN-IA - another brand new nation that does not ever compete in the Independent Associations Cup before, the referee were shaking the hands with the star players of the Jaguar team that compete in the Baptisom of fire 71 competition. It was the referee being star struck and giving all the respect to the Jaguar team during the game. No respect is given to SPACE who will have to compete even stronger against the team from JUVENCUS and Squornshelan Remnant States in the next games with a chance to advance into the playoff round stage. It must be a victory for SPACE and it must be with at least two goals.

There is no feeling of optimism for SPACE at this time. There is a chance of a change in the future, maybe the team will receive the respect it earns but it is not known if that will happen in the Independent Associations Cup 9 as there now just two games left for SPACE.

Go Astronauts!

THE RETURNING POINT
Free Republics 1-1 New Lusitania
@Estádio International, San Rafael

Upon arriving in HUElavia, the draw considered that for New Lusitania the best was to get the hardest out of the way. The Selecção would play the Free Republics, arguably the best team outside the Three Regions, at least as far as the Ranking is concerned. New Lusitania wouldn't take any chances in their first match in San Rafael and so put in the first squad as Patríce, Vinagrete, Leiteiro and Cancela in defence as Nevais, Mário, Fernando, Gama and Veiga in midfield as Silveira and Jota up front. A packed Estádio Internacional would see the whistle blown and the game commence. The first twenty minutes of the first half saw both teams attempting to reach goal, but to no avail, seeing the scoreline still goalless. At the half-hour mark, a corner for the Free Republics. As they crossed it in, the ball flew and curved into the midfielder who prodded it neatly into goal. 1-0 would be the half-time score as the players returned for another tough forty-five minutes of play. Mário came off for Horta to mark the first substitution in the tournament for New Lusitania. Past the hour mark, Gama would cross the ball in a beautiful curve into Jota who would head it in, scoring the much needed equaliser. On seventy minutes, the charge continued as Silveira put in a swerved ball which the goalkeeper just about saved, and later on Horta would miss it just by inches. In Patríce's goal there were also a few good chances particularly one where the Free Republics' forward was one on one with the goalie before it being marked offside. Upon reviewing the replay, we can see his foot just beyond the line put in by Vinagrete. With this, despite both teams' efforts, it would be a point each. Captain Fernando seemed pleased with the result though saying that "it was a good score against such a team and puts us with a real chance to keep the momentum going". Everyone back home will be hoping this momentum does in fact continue as they move to their second match, against Daskel in S.Salvador. FULL TIME: 1-1

Around The Grounds
The other match in Group B finished with a good win for Devonta (4-2) against Daskel in an overall good match for the spectator, as the victors take top. In Group A the hosts are top after beating Kriegiersien comfortably 2-0, with Omerica matching that after they beat Sajnur 1-0. In Group C, Kelssek lead isolated following their 4-2 win to Fleuronordicia as Fujai drew with Terre Septentrionale. Meanwhile, Juvencus edged out a win in a thrilling 4-3 with the SRS as TJUN-ia beat Space by one goal to nil. Group E saw comfortable wins by Port Ember and Abanhfleft, over Trolleborg (3-0) and Oceani (3-1). Tara and Cambray took the lead with a 2-3 win against Ziwana, as Reçueçn drew their first game against Monglechadbagd. Group G still finds itself all level, Drawkland drew 3 all with Darkmania as X.W.T. drew 2-2 with Imperial Joseon, as in contrast, Poafmersia beat Lisander comfortably (4-1) and Zwangzug were the victors of their tie after a 2-1 result against Silver Beach. New Lusitania play their next match against Daskel (STL 1, Wed, 17h).

HUElavia open their IAC 9 with a Solid Victory!

HUElavia comes into the 9th Editon of the Independent Associations Cup as the host nation, after being awarded by the IAC comittee for their outstanding bid filled with very modern stadiums for the ocassion. HUElavia started out in Group A, beeing seeded with Kriegiersien, Omerica, and Sanjur. Los Amarillos came into the tournament as the 2nd best ranked team and heavy favorites to advance from the group and possibly win the tournament. Matchday 1 was against Kriegiersien, at the Estadio Nacional in Curumba, in a sold-out crowd of 100,000 with 85% (85,000) being HUElavians watching in the stands. After the opening ceremony, a tifo of a Jaguar with HUElavian colors was unveiled with the message "It's our time to roar and pounce on the title." HUElavia had a mix of young players and veterans for the starting eleven.

The match was purely in favor of HUElavia, as they attacked against Kriegiersien with everything they had. The opening goal of the match and tournament came in the 17th minute, when during a counter attack saw Rossi pass the ball to Cristiano, who blasted it from outside the box into the net past Kamber to make it 1-0. The stadium jumped and cheered, causing another iconic rumble from the crowd, as Cristiano was mobbed by the squad. The second goal came towards the end of the half, in the 42nd minute, as a pass from Navarro met the foot of Hamada, who tapped it in to net her first goal of the competition, making it 2-0, Hamada being mobbed by Navarro and the team, and the crowd going crazy. The second half saw HUElavia take it easier, but Kriegiersien tried and tried to no avail, with Lobato making saves with ease. The team, fans and country were very satisfied, as HUElavia took the first victory and points in the tournament.

The next match will be at Estádio Costeiro (78,000) in HUEsillia against Omerica, where Los Amarillos look for vengence for the loss against them in IAC 8. The tables have flipped this time around, as Los Amarillos are heavy favorites for the match against Omerica, which is planned to be a very hostile game for their opponents. A win for either team will put them in the Last 16 of the tournament.

FORCA HUEAVIA! VAMOS HUELAVIA! GO HUELAVIA!

"Half the time the world is ending": World Cup 57 reappraised

One of those famous writers from a parallel universe or something tried to compare his contemporary epoch to a historical era by calling them both the best and worst of times. Such superlatives are untoward here. But every bygone tournament, much like our own, features both wisdom and foolishness, hope and despair, belief and incredulity. If individuals or nations are not directly to, or from, heaven, they are nevertheless moving forward in time, sometimes slowly and sometimes catastrophically.

Sorthern Northland entered World Cup 57 off the backs of two consecutive World Championships. They drubbed Ithadi in their first qualifier, winning eleven to nil away from home; surprisingly, Ithadi would get revenge in James Connolly Stadium in the second half. Nevertheless, the gold-and-red side would finish the qualifiers with an astounding +53 goal differential.

Jeru FC, if it can be fathomed, accumulated even more points from the qualifiers, losing only once to Kagdazka and Pazhujebu. The Purple Sea Urchins featured the dominant Fušia Oujadda on attack, young star Eduard Winogradsky in midfield, and up-and-coming Yevgeniy Oistrakh in the backup gloves.

Sarzonia did not lose a single qualifying match, although this may have something to do with having qualified directly as hosts. They were kept busy with friendly matches, however, taking on such sides as The Weegies, Cassadaigua, and Bears Armed. They also participated in the fourteenth Mike Sarzo Memorial Tournament in honor of their late president, while four mostly-female sides competed for the Pink Cup in an era rife with mini-tournaments.

The proper featured such strong performances as Niko Marek of the Polar Islandstates, who scored the only goal in the third-place playoffs; Patrice Proulx of Cotdelapoms, who helped them upset the Babbage Islands in the second round; Alexa Bechard of Cassadaigua, who ably filled in for an injured Taylor Connolly against Pays de Horreur, and Soter Sarlange of Astograth, a goalscoring threat despite receiving a yellow card in his opening match. Players worthy of earning credit for their achievements, then and now.

But there was other news that would linger long in the public imagination. By the end of the cycle, Oistrakh, Sorthern Northland, and Sarzonia would be no more. Tributes were rife, ranging from Donne in Krytenia to Shakespeare in Kagdazka to Keats in the Holy Empire (although on balance that might have been just another day in the Holy Empire). As for the Jeru FC team, they would survive until the World Cup 58 quarterfinals, whereupon their bus fell off a bridge.

What can be learned from this? Firstly, success is fickle--perhaps Bechard was not the first choice for the Dagans, but when her moment came along, she made the most of it. It's easier to accept her relative anonymity in the present day as "she was a benchwarmer who broke out" rather than "victory is ephemeral, tragedy is forever." Secondly, other nations are Weird. Even the Kagdaz-Pazhujebi federation, approached later, admitted that the ratio of acceptable melodrama to mundanity is a very fine path too walk. Too low, and life becomes ground down in tedium; the football-haters sometimes have a point when they point out that a game full of scoreless draws is not necessarily gripping, immersive drama. Too high, though, and things are worse. Not only is disaster disturbing in itself, but the second-order effects of dumping that on more and more others creates numbness at best, resentment at worst. Perhaps other nations' citizens have "empathy" that lets them deal with other people's grief without getting overloaded; on the other hand, you might as well believe other nations have like literal bears and elves and satyrs and stuff.

The notional microstate of NSWC Signups is a comedic mental image (except when it becomes melodrama, but that's another story): surely, pundits ask, there is a better way to coordinate a worldwide sporting event than asking individual federations to travel to the WCC headquarters and write their name on a list? Except...there really isn't. There are allegedly tens of thousands of nations in the larger world, with dozens coming and, crucially, going every day. Just because one team is a dynasty today does not mean they'll be successful, or even extant, tomorrow. So while the stresses of wondering "will so-and-so rivals make a return" may cause anxiety, that might be the least bad alternative. (My editor told me to mention that this isn't about any particular ongoing tournament, she just had a bunch of historical notes she wanted to publish in an article.)

But perhaps it can be a small reassurance, when and if new crises emerge, that there is nothing new under the sun.

Recuecn 0-0 Monglechabagd
Draw to continue dreaming in HUElavia.

Stade de Lourdes, Lourdes, HUElavia
A new edition of the IAC started this time in its ninth edition held in HUElavia, this is the second edition where Monglechabagd participates since the much forgotten last edition in nothing more and nothing less than Recuecn, our rival in this first game that we will review, very few followers of Monglechabagd went to the party, about 500 or so and only very few of his shirts and flags were seen encouraging and supporting the Dämonenrot, In Lourdes you can clearly see the color yellow and a little purple, we must remember that Recuecn are the current champions, we must see what happened today in this field.

Although there were no goals, there were many scoring opportunities, but neither team achieved the long-awaited score, both teams attacked a lot but all failure, especially by the goalkeepers, Sokolüb and Firaut, the scorers missed opportunities as well and I think Schneider is He is regretting all that since he had a shot only with the goalkeeper but sent it to the stands, despite so many possibilities a 0-0 is very good for Monglechabagd who achieved an unexpected draw for many people to see how the current champion tied before An unclassified team, at the end of the match, the stadium was filled with red when the 500 Monglechabians fans jumped onto the playing field to take photos and receive autographs from their players, but we did not come for a boring summary of a 0-0 match, what if we review other results.

HUElavia managed to get a 2-0 win against Kriegiersien in the opening game of IAC 9, HUElavia had a solid quiet victory against Kriegiersien B, we observed a great game that deservedly ¨The Yellows¨ deserved to win, in that same group, Omerica equipom that we know well in the last edition, Omerica managed to show his strength in a game so but so closed where only with one goal they managed to beat Sajnur, a team that has grown a lot in recent years, Free Republics failed to achieve a victory due to that New Lusitania and Algerves also scored a goal, 1-1 was the result that left both teams dividing the points, if they thought that Monglechabagd and Recuecn was a boring game the previous ones also had few emotions but the following had 6 goals, Devonta scored a 4-2 that leaves them leader for the moments in group B against a new Daskel, we witnessed a great game that in reality for the moment one of the best s of the tournament, same result between Kelssek and Fleuronordicia, Kelssek managed to win with the same emotion of the last game, Kelssek is proving to be another strong candidate for the title, 2 teams with equal strength that were with equal goals, Fujai and Terre Septentrionale was a match that showed both teams even and each with good defense that only missed one goal, Juvencus achieved another strong match, 4-3 against Squornshelan Remnant States, if you do not know these teams they are both very good size in the multiverse, both were a little stronger but are decreasing their game, the scoreboard showed both teams with strong offense but weak defense that both teams must correct if they want the championship, TJUN-ia and Space are both new teams in the multiverse that showed poor performance In the last qualifiers towards Casadaigua & Baker Park, although the Jaguars showed their strength by beating them with a single goal difference, Port Ember is in an era of gold for their soccer, they got a quota for the World Cup 84 that although it was not a good performance will be remembered for a long time for their people, this time they managed to score 3 goals for a current Trolleborg BoF champion who did not show much in this match, Abanhfletf managed to beat Oceani 3-1 which was a good game for them, favorite team for the title and to be leaders in the group.

In our group two teams from Melayu Archipelago faced each other, Ziwana and Tara and Cambray played a game that clearly overshadowed ours, 3-2 for Tara and Cambray that proved to be a great team and perhaps a possible team that can qualify for the Playoffs , although both must play their regional tournament, which surely placed their calendar a little stronger, Drawkland tied 3-3 against Darkmania where this strong independent started with the left foot, although his goals showed his strength, his defense showed his weakness that must improve, Xannerian Wysterian Territories got the same result, draw, his strong rival as Imperial Joseon, following the search for a second place only shows things very tightly in a group like this, Zwangzug showed how they are, 2-1 against Silver Beach was a great match that showed that this team has the strength to try the championship, Poafmersia got the 4-1 victory against Lisander, Poafmersia which was sem ifinalista still at BoF 71 and had a great game against Lisander another team with great experience, both teams can go far in this tournament but this group is also very closed.

Monglechabagd should continue to try to improve his game at the IAC before playing the BoF and qualifiers, GO MONGLE GO.

It's been a dissapointing start to the IAC for the Equipe Nationale de Reçueçn de Football (ENRF). The team's own media crew failed to show up for the first game, having apparently misunderstood the scheduling with the 12-hour clock (a pitiable excuse, since Reçueçn uses both the 12- and 24-hour clocks).

The game itself—a scoreless draw against Monglechabagd—was a let-down for the defending champions' fans, too. Hopes of getting les licornes' title defense off to a good start with a strong showing against Reçueçn's unranked opponents were broken as the team failed to find the net in ninety minutes. Both goalies put on solid performances, and at this point nothing less should be expected from the Reçuecian defense, which has at this point established itself as world class, even if the team is still improving its offensive capabilities.

Hopefully, however, those capabilities will be enough to see Reçueçn to a good showing here at this, their third IAC. In the last two editions, the tournament was a huge success for the team, making it to third place while unranked in the seventh edition (earning Reçueçn's first-ever international football silverware along the way), and winning the eighth edition at home in front of their own fans. Expectations, then, are high, which plays into why a nil-nil draw against unranked Monglechabagd was so sad for the fans.

On the other hand, les licornes have certainly not given up on winning the group. The recent games that Reçueçn has played, whether friendlies against nations like Banija and Hapilopper, or in its world cup group stage against countries such as Starblaydia and The Holy Empire, or even in world cup qualifying last year against Eura and Damukuni, have set the bar very high. The IAC, by its very nature, is a much more laid-back tournament, with fewer opportunities to play against truly threatening teams until you've reached the knock-out rounds—no offense to any of the nations in the tournament, of course. It is for that very reason that the IAC is so fun; it is an opportunity to play against a diverse selection of nations that one might not usually find in the world cup itself. And of course, it brings together we nations outside "the big three" and gives us a sporting identity of its own.

That said, we are the top seed in our group and hope to show it. Ziwana, who had a respectable performance in the Cup of Harmony, are nevertheless the lowest seeded pot 2 team, and they have already lost their first game, so we hope not to be too threatened by them. We play them next, at the Estadio Salvador.

After that, of course, we play our own region mates, Tara and Cambray. Tara and Cambray's presence most likely makes this the most nations from the West Pacific to have ever participated in the Independent Associations' Championship (although we didn't go back and count). Our other three region-mates all find themselves on the other side of the bracket; Daskel in Group B, Fujai in Group C, and Squornshelan Remnant States in Group D. By our count, nations from the West Pacific are the most numerous of any region at this edition of the IAC, even edging out the perennially well-represented Sonnel, if barely. (But once again we may have missed someone.) The game against Tara and Cambray should be a fun one, then, and should attract extra attention from the fans, who will be keen to cheer on their team against what may become a new regional rivalry. Of course, we also hope that the Kingdom won't become a real rival, because hopefully we will maintain our sizable rank advantage.

[My editor has just come in and pointed out that Tara and Cambray isn't listed as even being in the West Pacific, but rather somewhere called 'Eurth'. But I can't rewrite that whole bit now. Plus, whoever's at the world census must have messed up, because on the map I'm looking at, they share a border with Reçueçn. Go figure.]

We look forward, then, to the next couple of games, where hopefully les licornes will be able to bring home a couple wins to get us out of this group in style.

Strong Start to IAC 9 campaign as Poafmersia aims to reach the last 8
Report by Nokaris Handerson
Jinaqa, HUElavia - The 9th edition of the Independent Associations Cup, known as the IAC, begins with a bang as Poafmersia grabs a strong start with a 4-1 win over Lisander in Group H.
Being the second seed after the strong performance in the last World Cup cycle, Poafmersia came into Group H favourites to qualify with top seeds Zwangzug. Utilising the same squad for the Cup of Harmony, head coach Adnan Suliaha was determined to let Jabik Henderson enjoy his last tournament before retirement, hopefully delivering a trophy before his retirement. It wouldn't be easy, but the first match against Lisander was really well done, with Shakira Handaris and Bytia Hisel coming together to score 2 each in a 4-1 win over Lisander. Adnan started a 4-1-2-1-2 formation, dropping Joel and Pete Carisa for Bytia and choosing to outmuscle in the midfield. The strategy worked very well, and stand-in captain Jabik Henderson was very happy for the team. "I think the team found their form that brought them to third place in the World Cup Qualifiers. After a disappointing Cup of Harmony, today was a real match where we showed everyone that the real Poafmersian team is back."
Poafmersia next play Zwangzug, a team coming from the nation where we first played international football on the World Cup stage, before playing returning team Silver Beach, a nation that last competed 4 World Cup cycles ago, but gave a good fight in their 1-2 loss to Zwangzug. Adnan Suliaha would likely field the same team as today for both matches.

Formation: Henderson (c); A. Pickford, A. Hoboson, Wariq, D. Pickford; Figsh (DM); Walshor, Mchargarita; Moonar (AM); Hisel, Handaris
Goals for Poafmersia: Handaris 37', 90'; Hisel 62', 78'

Port Emberian Dragons Impresses at Opening IAC9 Match

Port Ember 3 - 0 Trolleborg

By Erica Davies - Port Ember Times Sports Journal

The Port Emberian national football team, the Dragons managed to decimate their opposition in their Independent Associations Cup 9 (IAC9) opening match against the national team of Trolleborg during Match Day 1.

The match was played within the Estadio Salvador Stadium, in the city of Sao Salvador of the Democracy of HUElavia. The impressive stadium had every single seat of its total 85 000 seats sold out to an impressive number of both energetic and passionate Port Embetian and Trolleborg fans.

The match started off with a Trolleborg kick off, attempting and managing to maintain posession of the play while attempting to launch small scale but safe attacks into the Port Emberian half of the pitch. These proved to be anything but effective as a fit and energetic Port Emberian midfield continued to shut down any serious attempts to gain momentum or field gain. This trend remained in place fot the opening thirty minutes of the derby, with Trolleborg failing to create any threatning oppertunities, and Port Ember failing to steal posession to launch a significant counter attack.

The last ten minutes of the first half saw the Trolleborg national team shift gears and launched incredidebly passionate and fast paced attacks deep into Dragon territory, scrambling to contain the new barrage. The Trolls getting dangerously close to scoring on two ocassions, with Star Trolleborg striker Stuart Kerr making a accurate shot at goal in both minute 33 and 38 of the match - both deflected without breaking a sweat by the goalkeeping machine known as Peter Smith.

Two minutes after the last shot at goal passed, the first half of the match drew to a close, with the score sheets completely empty.

The second half kick off was from the feet of the young Dragons, and to everyone's surprise - the seemingly "sleeping dragons" had awoken from their slumber as they launched an amazing early run, the midfield and forwards stomping their opposing defensive attempts, team captain and attacking midfielder linking up masterfully with star striker Danny "Golden Child" Nicovic, resulting in Nicovic slotting in the ball like a champ in minute 47.

This goal seemed to open the metaphorical floodgates as the young Dragons used this morale boost to gain the upperhand in momentum, as the Port Emberians launched a barrage of threatning offencives with surgical accuracy, snapping the opposing defense's will amd fighting spirit.

After constant probing attacks, the Trolls started showing signs of fatigue and frustration as the fast pace of the match and the blistering heat started taking its toll. The Port Emberians on the other hand showed none of these signs, displaying superior fitness levels and offcourse being used to the tropical heat as tropical islanders themselves.

In minute 62 up-and-coming winger Eric Tosaír of the Tribe of Waterford grabbed posession of the ball near the midfield and managed to burst through his opposition down the right flank - defeating three would-be-defenders with his amazing pace and impressive dribbing, finally landing a long pass to Nicovic, who continued to finish it off by slotting the ball into the net with a bursting shot from within the box.

The last goal of the match came in minute 84 when a very impressive back-and-forth passing play occured between the midfield and forwards of Port Ember, quickly and effectively creating large holes in the defensive line of the Trolls, allowing our own hero Nicovic to win the match ball when he scored his hatrick, despite the opposing keeper's best attempts.

The match ended six minutes later with the large crowd of Port Emberian supporters in attendance going mad in celebrations.

Aftermatch word from the Coach

"I am very proud of how our lads played today, handling themselves and the game in the manner of true future champions. What makes me the proudest is the fact that I can physically see our team improving with each match that we play, achieving my goal of picking up international experience for our young team. We are truly right in the middle of the golden era of Port Emberian football." Coach Stuart Baxter

Next Match Preview - Port Ember Vs Abanhfleft

Following their impressive 3-0 victory against Trolleborg during Match Day 1, our national team is preparing to face off against the Abanhfleft national team during Match Day 2, as part of the IAC9 group stages (Group E).

This match is promising to be the most exciting group match of Group E, as the two group favourites are preparing to square off with everything they have. This match is to be played at the Estadio Salvador Stadium, - situated in the city of Sao Salvador - within our gracious host nation of HUElavia.

The upcoming match is to take place within the Estadio Hueti Stadium, in the city of Jinaqa; Democracy of HUElavia.

Our own national team enters this match as slight match favourites, being ranked as the 38th best team in the world according to international rankings (13 spots higher than our opponents at rank 51), and as current Group E leaders with 3 points after one win. Our opponents occupies position 2 in the group, also with 4 points after their last win against Oceani, although we outrank them with a +1 goal difference (we hold a current +3 goal difference, whilst Abanhfleft holds a +2 goal difference).

This match marks the first time that these two teams will ever meet on an international football field.

Our own team consists out of a group of young and extremely fit players, who have been playing together for the last seven years, certainly giving them an advantage when it comes to team chemistry. They favour a very fast paced game, playing direct and high octane attacking football, attempting to overwhelm their opposition with their speed of play and extreme fitness levels.

Our opponents team is comprised out of a sensible mixture of young and hungry talent, and experienced veterans of the green pitch. This team's glory days have passed and is struggling to rebuild their national team in order to regain their previously held fame. This fact is by no means an indicator of poor performance, as they have proven in their last match against Oceani - completely outclassing their opponents. In fact, many international media houses have deemed this team to be the Group E favourites, believing that their superior international experience and technical skills will trump our own youth and passion.

Starting Line Up - Match Day 2

Goalkeeper (GK)(#1): Peter Smith.
Center Back (CB)(#2): Josh Richards.
Center Back (CB)(#3): Jason Lee.
Full Back (LB)(#4): Alex Kuhn.
Full Back (RB)(#5): Russel Pierce.
Attacking Midfield (AM)(#10): Ray Reddington.
Defensive Midfield (DM)(#6): Steven Packard.
Wide Midfield (LM)(#8): Jason Chamberlain.
Wide Midfield (RM)(#11): Eric Tosaír of the Tribe of Waterford
Central Forward (CF)(#7): Leon Moult.
Central Forward (CF)(#9): Danny Nicovic.

Coach Baxter announced that our team will be playing in their Secondary Kit - donning Black & Red kit for the upcoming match.

An Analyst's Input - How do we win this one?!?

"This upcoming match is sure to be the toughest of our matches of the group stages, and holds a certain 'Must Win' element to it, thus slightly increasing the pressure onto our lads. Although majority of pundits have marked our team as the match favourites, this is not going to be a easy match. Our opponents are a much more experienced and technically skilled team, thus we cannot afford to make mistakes - as these will be punished at every turn. Our opponents plays a pretty aggressive game, which we need to shut down at the midfield, as I dont believe our young defenders will be very effective at stopping their skilled attacks. I firmly believe that if we are to win this one, we need to play our normal 'Classic Port Emberian Football' - that is offcourse, to go onto the attack as soon as we can and keep doing so, attempting to overwhelm the opponents with pace and fitness." - Gerhard Black, Football Analyst and Journalist for Port Ember Times.

Pre Match Interview with Coach Stuart Baxter:

Erica Davies:

"So coach, Abanhfleft is up next. How are you feeling?"

Coach Baxter:

"I'm honestly feeling pretty confident in our team Erica. We have proved to the world and ourselves that we are still the same on-form team as we were at the end of the last international cycle. We just need to stay focussed and continue to play every game like its our last - and we will be okay I think."

Erica Davies:

"Well said coach! So, fun fact - Port Emberian pundits back home have deemed us as both group and match favourites, yet it seems that many international media houses favours our opponents for that honor. Thoughts on this coach?"

Coach Baxter:

"Well with the threat of sounding arrogant - the opinions of the media does not concern me or my team. These writers and pundits are individuals with an opinion, just like everyone else in the world. Just beceause they publish theirs to the world does not change how we play. With that said, we are entering this upcoming match prepared and humble - we know our opponents are a great team and they deserve to face us at our best. "

Erica Davies:

"Well said coach! Well thats all for today - and we as a nation hope you all the luck and fortune for tomorow!"

9TH INDEPENDENTS CUP
Kelssek makes winning start as defensive experiment tests mildly positive

FLEURNORDICA – 2

When we last saw our footballing heroes, they were being outclassed by Pasarga in the Cup of Harmony amid grousing about horrendous defending. Goals against galore had cost them a shot at the World Cup and then saw them stagger through the Cup of Harmony before finally being dispatched by an opponent they couldn't outscore. Debate raged about goalkeeping, whether the back four is talented enough, and whether the midfielders and forwards are doing enough when the team loses the ball.

Fixing this problem, it's becoming clear, will take more than just a bit of tinkering here and there, and at the Independents Cup, Kelssek manager Andrea Crowe seems determined to find a formula that will plug the leaks. Playing against a team of unknowns from Fleurnordica in the first match of the tournament is probably as good a chance as one gets to experiment in a competitive fixture. And while it's too early to draw any conclusions, it's clear we're some distance off from a vaccine for these defensive issues.

One variable is personnel. Bernard Despatie earned his first international cap and did fairly well in goal. Despatie's form for his club, Burnaby SC, has been stellar as the Centurions mount a title challenge and this was as safe a debutant as you could put into an international tournament. Another player earning a debut on the back of some excellent performances in the Kelssek Football League was CS Saint-Rémy's Joseline Fourtin, who started at centre-back.

Fourtin looked like she belonged on the team, but that's about all that can really be said about an above-average performance against unranked opposition who posed little threat for most of the match. The interns at NSN's official statistics provider credited her with two tackles, seven clearances, one interception, and 80% pass completion. Defence starts further up the pitch and this line-up also featured an attempt to figure out life after anchor-man Victor Clinton, who is more than happy to do a job but at the age of 34 cannot be a long-term solution. Cory Greenwood, who turns out for Ulsa Rovers in Eura, put in two key tackles but was also at fault in Fleurnordica’s first goal. The strikeforce had a more familiar look to it, with Clayquot City’s Seamus Wylten also getting a run-out and setting up Colm Ó Tuathail for a late goal.

For all the experimentation going on behind them it was the familiar names who seized the win. Gabriel Lapierre, deployed in a deep forward role, opened the scoring early and linked up again with Brayden Custworth 18 minutes later, this time supplying a chipped pass over the Fleurnordica defensive line which Custworth rocketed into the net with completely unnecessary force. Kelssek were cruising and Custworth should have doubled his tally on 39 minutes but made a mess of a perfectly delivered cross from Colm Ó Tuathail, who is clearly enjoying life in Cathair if his InstantGram feed and form for the Seamróga is anything to go by.

Fleurnordica pulled a goal back after the break, but Kelssek never gave up the lead and Thamior Liadon made it 3-1 when he intercepted a rebound on the edge of the box and fired it through a mass of flailing legs into the bottom right corner. Colm Ó Tuathail linked up with Seamus Wylten to produce the fourth goal on 75 minutes. Fleurordica stubbornly refused to lie down and scored four minutes later but had little more left in the tank to really threaten anything in the remaining time.

Manager Andrea Crowe called the Independents Cup “winnable” in post-match remarks but emphasized that she sees the tournament as part of a process leading back to the World Cup finals. Asked to assess the match, she said, “It’s a long road ahead in that sense, so this was a good step, and I expect more good steps. It's hard to assess much other than you have to be satisfied that the team did what was expected, so there's really only a choice between mild happiness and raging anger depending on the result.”

Kelssek faces Fujai in their next match, followed by Cup of Harmony finalists Terre Septetrionale.

Kelssek: Despatie, Liadon, Pokorný, Fourtin, Farahani, Demetriev (Bogdanor 77'), Greenwood, Dionne (Ó Tuathail 70'), Lapierre, Custworth (Wylten 59')
Attendance: 44,156 at Estádio Costeiro, HUEsillia
Player of the match: Thamior Liadon

UNITED REPUBLICS OF OMERICA

The United Republican Soccer Federation is proud to present to the Independent Football Federation the Omerican roster for the 9th Independent Associations Championship.

About Omerica
National anthem: “Hymn of the Avonian Martyrs” (English versionFrench version)
Capital: Port-des-Saints
Largest city: Charlottesville
Largest metro area: Mespalia
Official languages: English, French
Population: 67,427,652 (2009 census)

A federation in the far north, Omerica is a cosmopolitan maritime nation, famed for its environmental beauty, thriving black markets and love of a good drink. Omerica is a federal parliamentary republic with a semi-direct democratic system of governance. An influential country in international affairs, the nation ranks as one of the most politically and socially free states in the multiverse. The nation is noted for having some of the most friendly, compassionate and brash people in the multiverse, who enjoy high rates of economic, scientific and cultural development. The nation is rated as one of the least corrupt and least authoritarian in the world, with low rates of ignorance, obesity, political apathy and preventable death.

About the Incorrigibles
Association code: OME
KPB ranking: 98th (7.81)
All-time record: 125–61–113 (41.8% win rate; 1.46 points per game)
IAC record: 16–7–7 (53.3% win rate; 1.83 points per game)
Record under George Kostas: 7–2–6 (46.7% win rate; 1.53 points per game)

Just like the history of the nation, the history of Omerican football has been rocky. The nation was one of fifty-six to début in Baptism of Fire 56, where the team made the knockout stage with an undefeated record before bowing out to Lons after extra time in the last 32. The Griffons subsequently floundered for several cycles, finishing below expectations in tournament after tournament and struggling to find their footing. But fortunes turned around during the Campionato Esportiva in the Sarian, where Omerica unexpectedly won their group and made the quarterfinals after defeating Yttribia. Despite falling to runners-up Nephara in a close match, the tournament marked a significant turn in fortunes: a bitter (and, to Osarians, infamous) third-place finish in the World Cup 73 qualifiers, two consecutive knockout stage qualifications and Round of 16 exits and—the nation’s crowning moment of glory—an upset qualification for World Cup 74, where the team scalped Flardania and nearly advanced to the knockout phase.

However, success proved short-lived. After boycotting CE XVI in Falatulu, the Omerican Football Federation found itself mired in a corruption and betting scandal. Combined with a riotous fanbase which had caused numerous bouts of destruction, the scandal dogged the team’s World Cup 75 qualifying campaign and ultimately brought the OFF to an untimely end, ordered dissolved by the Sessions Court of the Mespalia and liquidated to cover the fines issued to its executives. In the aftermath of the scandal, the republican football associations, which had predated and existed parallel to the OFF, formed the United Republican Soccer Federation to take over the OFF’s functions and opted to indefinitely pull Omerica from international competition. Half a decade later, a new national team emerged to contest the Independent Associations Championship and, after much internal debate, the World Cup.

The early years of the newly-christened Incorrigibles were troubled, with celebrated manager Ryan Pritchard unable to create a solid foundation to rebuild on. Seeing his time and margin for error dwindling, he chose to throw in the towel, though his replacement’s reign turned out horrific. With the expectations of the nation lower than ever, an uncelebrated Anne-Sophie Groothuis was tasked with steadying the ship, but went above and beyond: besting the infamous Curse of Kilkenny, winning the United Republics a first major international title and coming closer than either of her predecessors to the World Cup finals. But after an underwhelming World Cup and Cup of Harmony campaign and fearing complacency ahead of the nation’s IAC title defence campaign, Groothuis chose to cut her losses and get out while she was ahead. Little did anyone know that the Incorrigibles would put up the worst title defence campaign in the IAC’s brief history…
Staff
Manager: George Kostas (age 56)
Former interim manager of the Incorrigibles after Christine Salmond’s forced resignation, Kostas comes back to the national team off a relatively successful stint at his hometown club Falcon United. True to his place a striker during his time in the Omerica shirt, Kostas is known for being a traditional, attack-oriented Omerican strategist, favouring the three-person attack which propelled Omerica up the ranks in the nation’s earliest international years. Hoping to place his woefully forgettable stint as interim manager behind him, Kostas’s régime sees a mass clear-out of old (and, more damningly, complacent) names, blending youth and experience for the former Omerican international’s first second true outing as manager.
