NSCAA Recaps for BP Uni Fives
Bethany Gold
Hamilton Examiner Sports Desk Reporter

The multinational college basketball tournament known as the NSCAA is nearing the completion of the season, with only the final 64 team Super Tournament left to be played.

The UAC entered eight squads, the main campus of each state's university system, and Osheana State, who had participated in the debut appearance of BP schools.
There were not many surprises in the records of the schools that participated, but a couple of unexpected success stories belong to University of St Leon and University of Osheana; both had underclassman dominated lineups and less than stellar UAC performances during the domestic season, yet the 'Hawks went 18-12, while the Raiders stumbled out of the gate at 0-4 before going on a tear to finish 4th in the Flying Drawk Conference at 19-9, and are still involved in the conference tourney at press time.

UBP hoped to make a better showing than their 11-18 mark, but couldn't overcome injuries to leading scorer Ray Hoban and inconsistent play from starting point guard Keon Dexter.

Coolville State reached the Final 8 of the previous Ultra 64, but were unable to generate enough offense this time and finished 15-14, while the third member of the Big 8, Lynchana U., were only able to muster 12 wins of 28, although they did surprise by upsetting the second seeds in the Checkers Conference to advance to the Semifinal, but fell to Banija's University of Loyola-Istria.

The final 3 schools may have the best chance to be considered for the big tourney, as U of Ezra are still alive in their conference knockouts, as is Endover, while Osheana State is finished with a 20-10 record.

Playoffs Recap: Frostvale Institute of Technology (STK)

Round 1: BYE

Round 2: BYE

Quarterfinals: W 93-74 vs. University of Tundra Falls (NEW)
Even though they skipped the first two rounds of the conference playoffs, FIT kept busy, both with practice and with scouting the other teams. The well-prepared Frost Giants took down their opponents from Newmanistan with the help of Alan Peterson's 21 points and Marlon Martinez's 17 and seven assists.

The Frost Giants will face the fourth-seeded University of Endover Wildcats in the semis. The former beat the latter 97-66 in Matchday 11 and 101-65 in Matchday 26.

Playoffs Recap: South Union College (STK)

Round 1: BYE

Round 2: BYE

Quarterfinals: W 86-62 vs. Raegs Vildam (BGN)

SOUC similarly put in some intense preparation for their playoffs campaign. Who would end up advancing against them in the quarters but the only school to beat them in the group stages? The Bolgano-based squad were itching for another upset, but the Strongmen weren't having it. Zane Hoffman scored 24, and Casper Boone contributed 15 each of points and rebounds.

Waiting for SOUC in the semifinals will be the fourth-seeded University of Portsmouth, which they defeated 100-70 in Matchday 8 and 68-53 in Matchday 23.

Fourteen-Game Recap: Elmore Heights Correctional Facility (STK)
Final Record: 22-6, 1st in Newlands Conference

Matchday 17: W 78-77 vs. University of Baker Park (CBP)
The Bears won against the Madd Doggs by a narrow 85-83 margin in the second matchday, but the latter escaped with an even narrower one-point win in their second meeting. Five foot ten "Lil Dragon", the smallest Elmore Heights player, had the biggest play of the game when he stole the ball and ran all the way for the game-winning layup.

Matchday 18: L 62-63 vs. University of Concord Heights (CDG)
The 'Dagans blocked the floater attempt of "Chief G" and escape with the win. The prisoners were gracious losers and shook their hands after.

Matchday 19: W 87-66 vs. University of Hondo (VAL)
The game was delayed after the Madd Doggs' jerseys didn't arrive, but the opponents were generous enough to let them borrow their alternate set. "Jimmy Junior" had 20 points, and bench player "Phantom Zero" added 14.

Matchday 20: L 67-74 vs. 95X University University City (NFX)
Different (and better) behavior by the prisoners against their opponents, but the same result as their previous matchup, right down to the score. According to the Madd Doggs' "Mark the Shark", it's a sign, but he didn't say what of.

Matchday 21: W 94-63 vs. Andromeda Naval Academy (AIG)
The Madd Doggs tried out a new look, pairing their gray tops with their orange shorts. "Jimmy Junior" had 26 points, and "Chief G" added 22.

Matchday 22: W 103-74 vs. Asculi University of Economics (OSC)
Elmore Heights topped the century mark for the first time in the tournament. "Phantom Zero" got the game ball, as it was his three-pointer that got them to a hundred. He also scored the last three points for the Madd Doggs, off a layup and a free throw.

Matchday 23: W 81-59 vs. Chromatik State University (CMT)
The prisoners started this game by trailing 2-15 in the first quarter, went level at 26-all in the second, took the lead at 36-35 early in the third, then pulled away until the end.

Matchday 24: BREAK

Matchday 25: W 96-57 vs. Grand Valley College (LTX)
"Cody Swagger" was fired up against the team he missed a game-winner against in Matchday 10. He recorded 18 against the Long Texans, but the game high belonged to "Big Blake" with 21.

Matchday 26: W 85-68 vs. High School of Metallurgy (TRL)
"Cody Swagger" was the top scorer this time with 23. "Scooter" added 16, and the whole Elmore Heights squad was a perfect 11 for 11 from the charity stripe.

Matchday 27: W 92-74 vs. Keisler College (NEW)
"Jimmy Junior" and "Da Duke" had 19 points each; the Madd Doggs wore orange over gray.

Matchday 28: W 103-61 vs. New Cordóba College (LMO)
Elmore Heights matched their team high in points, as they started the game with a 23-5 run. "Big Blake" topscored with 23 and hauled in nine rebounds.

Matchday 29: W 89-64 vs. Pine Valley College (HPI)
The Madd Doggs stretch their win streak to eight, thanks to "Chief G" and his 25 points, as well as "Scooter" and his twelve assists (he scored ten).

Matchday 30: W 91-80 vs. Sadeg State University (DRK)
Make that nine wins in a row, as the Madd Doggs proved that their victory over the defending champs in Matchday 15 was no fluke. The ragtag team of prisoners locked up (no pun intended) the top seed in their group, a first round bye, and an Ultra 64 spot.

Round 1: BYE

Round 2: W 71-63 vs. University of Hondo (VAL)
The Madd Doggs went gray over orange in their first playoff game. They went off to a rough start, trailing 33-39 at the half, but outscored their eighth-seeded opponents 25-14 in the third quarter and held on for the victory. Fourth-seeded High School of Metallurgy, which rolled over twelfth-seeded Universitas Tanjung Pagi - Jakulta 79-57, will be their semifinals opponent.

Playoffs Recap: Frostvale Institute of Technology (STK)

Semifinals: W 83-61 vs. University of Endover (CBP)
C.J. Carter scored 23 and added six assists and three steals as the Frost Giants eliminated the Wildcats from title contention. Later in the day, Murnau State trashed 95X University Pacific City, 82-65, to set up a championship duel with Frostvale Tech.

Finals: W 100-53 vs. Murnau State University (TRL)
Their name might remind people of ice, but the Frost Giants were on fire throughout the title game. They hit 36 for 46 (78%) field goals and led 52-25 at the half. Alan Peterson was the top scorer with 27, including a perfect 5 for 5 from three-point territory.

Playoffs Recap: South Union College (STK)

Semifinals: W 89-85 (OT) vs. University of Portsmouth (AIG)
The Strongmen trailed 72-78 with less than a minute left to play against their Andromedan opponents. However, they scored six straight points, including a Jess Matthews floater with 0.4 second remaining that had to be reviewed multiple times, and finally disposed of Portsmouth in overtime. The fight for the other finals seat was a similarly close one, with Starksville Medical Institute sneaking past Hudson College 67-65.

Finals: W 90-56 Starksville Medical Institute (CDG)
SOUC went back to winning big, burying the third seeds 42-29 at halftime on the way to a huge finals victory. Cam Sheridan led the way with a double-double of 22 points and 13 assists.

Playoffs Recap: Elmore Heights Correctional Facility (STK)

Semifinals: W 89-59 vs. High School of Metallurgy (TRL)
Elmore Heights started the game on a 16 to nothing run and never looked back as they head to the conference championship. "Chief G" scored 19 and "Jimmy Junior" added 14 and three each of assists and steals. The other semis game was more of a nailbiter than a blowout, with Chromatik State University surviving University of Concord Heights 93-92 in overtime. The former were beaten by the Madd Doggs twice in the group stages, 91-82 in Matchday 8 and 81-59 in Matchday 23.

NSCAA Recap,
by Chelsea Dufresne, Concord Heights Times

We didn’t spend a lot of time covering the college basketball competition that just recently saw its last conferences hold tournament finales, but we were following it. With two conferences hosted by Cassadaigua, and eight schools participating, there was plenty of opportunity for our fans to attend games even if they were not featured in this publication. The big tournament awaits, and Cassadagan schools had pretty good results, overall. We’ve been better in this, but we’ll take it.

Definitely In:
Seth Johnson College- The all-men’s team has bragging rights over their female companions as they are assured a berth in the Ultra 64 after defeating Banija’s Hangaza Technological University, 67-66, in the title game. That school had been 27-1 in the regular season. SJC was 20-8, and was the three seed in the tournament.

New Lakeland University- The NSCAA 9 Champions won the Sky Blue Conference, thanks to it not having anyone from Saint Kanye in it. It was a Banijan school that knocked them out in the semifinals, but at that point New Lakeland already had the spot clinched.

Should Be In:
University of Concord Heights- Finished third in the Newlands Conference with 20-8 record, and the conference tournament went by the book. UCH lost a heartbreaker in overtime to Chroamtik State University, the second place team, in the semifinals. The school is a former champion, and this level of success will lock them in on everyone’s ballot, but they will not be a favorite.

Grande Mountain University- Another former champion, Grande Mountain University was also eliminated in the conference tournament in overtime. That came in the quarterfinals, after they finished fifth in the Mugisha II Memorial Conference. They’ll be in, but shouldn’t be seeded better then UCH.

Starksville Medical Institute- Finished third in the Baganda Peoples Conference during the regular season, and made it all the way to the championship game in the tournament. They were trounced in that game, but that won’t keep them from failing to make the Ultra 64.

Brattleboro Tech- Despite finishing third in the Big Seven Eight, one spot behind Pocono City Tech, another longtime entry, the Brats were upset in the first round of the tournament. That will affect their seeding from what it could have been, but it will not keep them out of the tournament.

Bubble:
Victoriaville Business School: More then likely, they are going to slide into the tournament, but nothing is guaranteed with them, and they won’t be seeded all that well if they do. They were only in the Royal Conference, but I expect that the committee will give them credit for the 17-11 record they actually had and that they were the third team of a three way tie for sixth spot. They won in the first round of the tournament, before being ousted by the top seed in conference in the second. That should be enough, but I can’t quite put them in the “should be in” category.

Probably Out:
Concord Heights Beauty School- While they did finish 7th in the Checkers Conference, they only had a 12-16 record. They could have been upgraded to a bubble team with a good run in the conference tournament, but were eliminated in the first round. I won’t say they are definitely out, but I would not be expecting to see them in the Big Dance.
NS Sports’ only World Cup, World Bowl, World Cup of Hockey, World Baseball Classic and International Basketball Championships winner!

NSCAA 11- Banija taking center stage as BCSG 'hopeful' for big NSCAA tournament run

Image
Liberty Stadium in Istria, preparing to host the NSCAA 11 Final Four

ISTRIA, MORAVICA- The anticipation for the NSCAA 11 Ultra 64 Tournament is high this season. For the first time, the BCSG was able to put all of their schools into the NSCAA tournament, as all six of Banija's teams that participated in NSCAA 11 qualified for the tournament- and all 6, to boot, got automatic berths. And not just qualified for the tournament- but did so in style. The University of Moravica, who has been on quite the streak over the last decade, including their run to the NSCAA 10 Final and then winning the national championship just one year later, are leading Banijan schools. Off the backs of an incredibly strong 27-1 regular season, they find themselves as the #3 overall seed this season.

Of course, while Banijan schools jet off to Cassadaigua and Newmanistan for the right to try and earn a place in Istria, plenty of schools will be playing in Banija. Banija, alongside Cassadaigua and Newmanistan, will be hosting first and second round games in the tournament. The BCSG said that the games will be an 'economic boom' to Banija, bringing tourism and fans and positive attention on the country. While the country is not hosting 3rd and fourth round games, BCSG officials were able to secure the Final Four at Liberty Stadium. Both city officials and BCSG officials said they were 'ecstatic' over the opportunity.

Let's go through it, eh?

Banija Venues

You cannot have this conversation without talking about Liberty Stadium. Liberty Stadium has always been one of Banija's prized jewels as a stadium. It has hosted all sorts of important events. It's hosted a game at the 25th anniversary edition of the International Basketball Championships, a rivalry game between Banija and Qasden. It's hosted World Bowl semifinals on two separate occasions, as well as playing host to the Istria Black Mambas of the Gridiron Football League of Banija. And, of course, it has hosted two NSCF Finals. Istria has long been a city obsessed with its college sports, as they rabidly support Loyola-Istria. So it makes sense that they have finally been able to bring the Final Four to South Moravica.

1st and 2nd Round Banija Venues
The Bear's Den, in Slobochia, Moravica(University of Moravica)- capacity of 6,700: Hosting 1st Round Games 1 and 2. Hosting Second Round Game 33.
The Aissa Fieldhouse, in Aissa, Hangaza(Hangaza Tech)- capacity of 11,848: Hosting 1st Round Games 11 and 12. Hosting Second Round Game 38.
Caribou Arena, in Istria, Moravica(professional arena)- capacity of 19,700: Hosting 1st Round Games 13 and 14. Hosting Second Round Game 39.
The Kabaka's Court, in Busukuma, National Capitol Region(Kizza I College)- capacity of 12,000: Hosting 1st Round Games 21 and 22. Hosting Second Round Game 43.
North Park Arena, in Herzegovina City, Moravica(Northern Moravica)- capacity of 14,500: Hosting 1st Round Games 29 and 30. Hosting Second Round Game 47.

Teams

And now, for the teams. Six teams, all highly ranked, all trying to get that ring. Can they get there?

University of Loyola-Istria

The Blue Thunder had a strong finish to the season, winning their conference tournament. They clock into this year's tournament as the #16 overall seed, giving them a decent chance of making the big dance. What is the name of the game for the Blue THunder? Experience. They've got a starting lineup full of upperclassmen, which is increasingly rare in this sport. Ijeawele Nwoye is the star for this team, the versatile power forward who can really be slotted at the 3, 4, or 5. They, naturally, have the most pressure- being the school in Banija arguably with the biggest fanbase(although Northern would say something about that), the Final Four is in their backyard, just 6 miles south of campus. Will they be playing in Istria when it counts?

Northern Moravica University

Northern Moravica had a very strong finish to their season as well, winning their conference tournament to earn an automatic bid to the big dance. They've put themselves in as the #14 overall seed, as Banija's largest public university gets ready to take stock. Their football team just got knocked out of the first round of the NSCF playoffs, and so everybody's attention will be turned to basketball. Can they re-establish dominance within the region? They've got the region's second best college football team, and hate to be overtaken like they have been over the last 10 years by the University of Moravica. Their key is aggression. They trap early and often, and often overextend. IT can overwhelm weaker teams, but can cause them to get exposed against stronger teams. Can they ride their aggression all the way to the Final Four, and paint Banija's largest city red as they swarm it?

Kizza I College

Busukuma's most prominent NSCAA school clinched their berth when they won the Pink 15 Conference Tournament. This is their third time in the NSCAA, and yet, this is their first ever appearance in the Ultra 64. They've never had much success on the international level, and they find themselves here. They are the #10 overall seed, finding themselves in a good position to advance. The mostly commuter school has a solid sized fanbase, and they are an exciting team- they are capable of winning the whole thing. The key for this team is Antouman Ceesay. He's an old school, back to the basket kind of player, but he can be unstoppable if he gets hot. His array of post moves is absolutely stellar. They will be trying to make the four hour trip north to Istria, and want to believe it is their year.

University of Loyola-Busukuma

The other Loyola! The secondary campus, the men's theological seminary, probably the only all-male school in the entire NSCAA. And yet, here they find themselves- ranked ahead of Loyola-Istria, which is the main campus of Loyola University/University of Loyola. There is always tensions between the two campuses, with many in the Loyola-Istria community believing that Loyola-Busukuma should 'stay in their lane' and not let their seminarians play varsity sports, especially on an international level. But here they are. If they got to Istria, it'd be interesting to see what kind of reception they'd get. Would they be supported? What kind of fan base do they really have? But the Mormon Church itself would surely be excited. The key for them? Seniors. They've got 5 seniors in their starting lineup. How many schools can say that. They rode that experience to go far enough domestically to qualify for NSCAA 11- now, can they ride those guys to the Final Four?

Hangaza Technological University

Another school making their first ever NSCAA appearance. And yet, the River Rats are out here, smoking teams. Hangaza Tech for short, they had an excellent season, going 29-2, and earning the #4 overall seed. They lost just one regular season game, and lost the final of the conference tournament, falling by a single point to Seth Johnson College. The key to this team is offense. They had one of the strongest offenses in the entire NSCAA. They went 27-1 because they could score at a higher clip than you- they averaged 89.85 points per game across the regular season. This is a young team, with 3 sophomore starters and one freshman starter, but their lone senior starter, Duwa Ndour, is one of the best shooters in all of college basketball. He takes nearly 8 3 pointers per game, and putting down just a hair above 3 per game is huge. They stretch the floor, and even though are clear on the other side of the country from Istria, Hangaza Tech fans will surely swarm Istria if they make it there.

University of Moravica

And now, for the team leading the charge. The Golden Bears! The only one of Banija's teams who are not by water, as Hangaza Tech is on the river that marks the Geisenfred border, while the other 4 are on cities that are on the coastline. And, of course, Slobochia is the only one of Bnaija's NSCAA schools that is really considered a truly college town, a town that is centered and anchored by its university, rather than being a major city that simply happens to be host to a university. And, of course, they have a history. NSCAA 10 they had a miracle run, all the way to the Championship Game, only to be downed by Sadeg State.

And they find themselves back in the NSCAA tournament. In the two years following NSCAA 10, domestically, they were strong. The year after, they won a national championship, although the following year they were upset in the national quarterfinals. They are Banija's highest ranking team, with the #3 overall seed in hand after a 27-1 regular season. The name of the game for them is Energy. Lampda's got 3 freshman in his starting lineup. A lot of teenagers in the rotation, but they are capable of getting the job done.

Well, there you have it. Banija's venues, Banija's six NSCAA schools. Which ones, if any, will make it to the Final Four in Istria?

Ultra 64 Recap: Frostvale Institute of Technology (STK)

Round 1: W 98-66 vs. St. Thomas University (HPI)
The Frost Giants earned the top seed in the 64-team tournament, thanks to their Mugisha II Memorial Conference championship, 28-0 group stage record and humongous +762 point differential. They continued their great showing as they went up against the tournament's bottom seed, a Hampton Islander school. C.J. Carter poured in 25 points, Alan Peterson added 20 points (including 4 for 4 from rainbow country) and eight assists, and every Frost Giant scored. Head coach Levi Bailey rested all starters in the final five minutes of the game.

Frostvale Tech's second round opponent will be 33rd-seeded Mar Sara Tech from Valanora, which snuck past 32nd seed Osheana State 78-76. Mar Sara Tech finished the Pink 15 Conference group stages with a 19-9 record, but were booted out in the first round of the playoffs by the University of Angeles City, a school which is not in the Ultra 64.

Ultra 64 Recap: South Union College (STK)

Round 1: W 87-61 vs. Drawk Corps University (DRK)
SOUC were the second seed in the Ultra 64 with their 27-1 group stage record and championship in the Baganda Peoples Conference, as well as their +625 point differential. The Drawks' height and might gave them problems early; DCU led by as many as fourteen, 20-6, in the first quarter. But the Strongmen chipped away at the lead until it was just a manageable 32-37 margin at halftime, and then banked on a huge 34-11 third quarter burst to put their opponents away. Cam Sheridan topscored for SOUC with 27 points.

Up next for the Strongmen will be the 34th-seeded Bulls of the University of Ezra, which took down the 31st-seeded High School of Metallurgy 76-71. Ezra, from Baker Park, went 19-9 in the Big Seven Eight Conference group stages and made it all the way to the semifinals, where they lost to the University of Moravica Golden Bears.

Ultra 64 Recap: Kanyean Air Force Academy (STK)

Round 1: W 77-76 vs. Coolville State University (CBP)
Despite not winning the Pink 15 Conference championship, the Warhawks still earned the fifth seed in the Ultra 64. They faced the 60th-seeded Vikings, which proved to be tough opponents despite their low position in the bracket. In fact, Coolville State even led by as much as thirteen, 33-20 in the second quarter. KAFA would climb back and keep the score close for the rest of the game, even leading at times. They were trailing 75-76 with four seconds of play left, but had possession. Jean Brady, who already had a team-best 21 points, appeared to attempt a three, causing him to be pressured by two opposing players. However, it was a fake. Brady passed to backup shooting guard Nick Fleming, who outran his defender and made the game-winner from close range.

37th-seeded Starksville Medical Institute prevailed against 28th-seeded 95X University Cactus 79-66 to arrange a second round matchup with KAFA. The future Cassadagan doctors were crushed by South Union College in the Baganda Peoples Conference finals.

Ultra 64 Recap: Elmore Heights Correctional Facility (STK)

Round 1: W 97-81 vs. Universitas Nasional Pilindostan (FID)
The experiment of sending a team of prisoners to the NSCAA started with many doubters. But then the Madd Doggs started winning, toppling some notable schools and gaining recognition, supporters and respect in the process. Their Newlands Conference championship earned them the sixth seed in the Ultra 64, and they didn't take it for granted, defeating the 59th-seeded Filindostanis to move on to the second round. "Jimmy Junior" and "Cody Swagger" had 26 and 22 points for Elmore Heights, respectively.

They will play 27th seed Eugene Troger University of Biomedicine from Trolleborg next. This team were beaten in the Five Star Conference title game by none other than Queensbridge University. In the Ultra 64, Eugene Troger won 83-77 over 38th-seeded Chromatik City College University.

Ultra 64 Recap: Queensbridge University (STK)

Round 1: W 89-65 vs. Wilson Pickett Teacher's College (AIG)
The eighth-seeded Engineers, champions of the Five Star Conference, schooled the future Andromedan teachers in their Ultra 64 match. Tyron McDowell scored 21 and hauled in nine rebounds against the 57th seeds; Matt Murasaki added 16 points.

Central 95X College, the 25th seed, advanced against QU with a 70-57 win against 40th-seeded Elmanden District College. The former finished 20-8, second behind South Union in the Baganda Peoples Conference group stages, but were eliminated in the conference quarterfinals by non-Ultra 64 school Hudson College.

Ultra 64 Recap: University of Bompton (STK)

Round 1: W 69-60 vs. Alex Zach Free University (TRL)
The Royal Conference champion Redblues were seeded fifteenth; their opponents were fiftieth. Still, it turned out to be such a close game that UB didn't get to pull away until the last two and a half minutes of the game. Von Fields sank back to back threes, and Bruce Coleman made a layup and a free throw to turn a 58-57 lead into a 67-57 advantage in the last minute. The teams then exchanged baskets for the final score. Coleman finished with 19 points; Fields with 17.

Eighteenth-seeded Brattleboro Tech, Cassadaigua's answer to Frostvale Tech, squeaked past 47th-seeded Everlin University 91-88 to make it to the second round opposite Bompton. The Brats were third in the Big Seven Eight Conference group stages but lost in the first round of the playoffs.

NSCAA fans from St. Kanye's neighbor country New Northwesteros will be pleased to learn that their sole Ultra 64 representative, New Northwesteros National University - Baratheopolis, also made it to the second round. The 41st-seeded Antlers escaped 24th-seeded West 95X College by a score of 78-72.

Scoping out the NSCAA Tournament,
by Kaitlyn Scoville, Concord Heights Times

The first round of the NSCAA’s Ultra 64 tournament is in the books, and Cassadagan schools are hoping for success as underdogs. This has been an interesting tournament in that formerly dominant schools from Drawkland have not played well, and Newmanistanian schools, also known for success here have not. For Cassadaigua, we have done a little better then those two, but are also lacking in significant success. This competition has, so far, belonged to Saint Kanye and Banija, and with the latter hosting the Final Four at Liberty Stadium in Istria, they surely have some great expectations on the amount of home schools that will be there. While it could be easy to book a full slate of schools from Saint Kanye and Banija to go deep in the tournament, there could be some spoilers. Perhaps, they come from Cassadaigua, as we look for our fourth title in NSCAA Basketball. How are things going so far?

#13- New Lakeland University- Reigning national champion as well as the NSCAA 9 champions fell victim to a cinderella, Marquette College, from Hampton Island. It was not even a close contest, as our squad lost by the score of 84-71. Not much to say about this one other then it was extreme disappointment. Kelsey Turnbull’s early foul trouble can be an excuse to an extent, but this was not a good game.

#17- Seth Johnson College- The all-male school from Grande Mountain knocked off University of Osheana, based in Baker Park by the score of 79-69. The lead exchanged hands for most of the first half, but in the final ten minutes of the game, the opponents were held to just four points, allowing SJC to pull away to the ten point victory. Senior Brian Stilwell had 21 points to lead the way. They will take on University of Loyola-Istria next, the team that eliminated their bitter rival and fellow Grande Mountain School, none other then Grande Mountain University.

#18- Brattleboro Technical Institute- Brat Tech may be our best chance now, and this is a school hungry for an NSCAA title. They were upset in the second round of the tournament at home, so this is certainly a great chance for them to get redemption. They won, 91-88, over Everlin University of Valanora, in overtime. To get to OT, Shannon Stefanelli blocked a last second buzzer beating shot by a Vanorian player that could have given them the win. The Brats were excellent from the free throw line in the game, and prepare for University of Bompton, from Saint Kanye in the next round.

#23- University of Concord Heights- The reigning runner up at home, as well as the NSCAA 5 champion prevailed in a close game against a school from Valanora, Rinaldi Naval Academy, 78-76. From start to finish, this game went back and forth with 23 lead changes during the course of the game. Kristen Clements hit the game winning jumper with 4.1 seconds left to give UCH the win and send them into a contest against Kizza I College, of Banija, next.

#37- Starksville Medical Institute- A complete effort in both ends of the court allowed the school to knock off 95X University-Cactus in convincing fashion, 79-66. Stacey Pickett registered a triple double in the win, picking up 19 points. The team will be an underdog against #5 Kanyean Air Force Academy, but will hope to make their mark in the contest.

#49- Grande Mountain University- The one time NSCAA champion did not look good all in a 92-54 shellacking delivered by Banija’s University of Loyola-Istria. There was never a point that GMU looked like that had a chance, falling behind 8-0 to start the game, and gradually seeing that get worse. Sophomore Brittney Mahoney, the teams leading scorer, was held to only 10 points in this loss.

#51- Victoriaville Business School-
Coming in as an underdog against #14 Northern Moravica University, of Banija, VBS gave their opponents a scare for a little while. In fact, Victoriaville Business School led 39-37 at halftime. They hung in for a while in the second half, but the class of NMU eventually allowed them to pull away.

Setting is Istria Mayor's Office

Miremba Okello was sitting in her office. SHe had just gotten off the phone with NSCAA FInal Four Host Committee officials, as well as NSCAA officials from Tundra Falls. Her third straight day with a two hour phone meeting. The Mayor of Istria was in her sixth year in office- in her second term. The politican was from the Banijan center-right, the People's Protection Movement. Presently in opposition, they've had long roots in their heartland of the Moravica Region. But even then, the People's Protection Movement usually struggled in the city proper. The suburbs were conservative, the rural areas were very agrarian, and even Herzegovina City itself, outside of the immediate area containing Northern Moravica's campus, was conservative. But this- the left's only stronghold.

That's why her win had vaulted up to political stardom within the country. And her ability to win re-election too, some thought that she would have a national future. She could go be a Premier in Moravica. She could even be the future Katikkiro, if she played her cards right. But alas, she didn't. Last year, after the PPM just barely missed out on the opportunity to form a government, she ran for national leadership. Why not, right? Popular Mayor, a chance to become the first female leader of one of Banija's right-of-center parties, and a chance to become Katikkiro. But it was not to be. She lost the party leadership by just a couple of percentages points- earning the support of only 47% of her fellow party members.

So back to Istria it was for the big city Mayor. The national spotlight wasn't for her- yet. But as the Mayor of Banija's biggest city, she was always going to have a chance to regain the national spotlight. And that's why she worked so hard with the BCSG to ensure that the Final Four was brought to the country's largest indoor stadium- none other than Liberty Stadium. The move made perfect sense, and it, of course, won her plaudits across the spectrum that she was able to bring such a big sporting event, like the Final Four, to the city.

She had a pension for the spotlight. Great in front of cameras, loved getting attention- just like any politician. She had a call with Ousman Kaba, the Executive Chairman of the Olympic Committee of Banija. She was unsure of why he was calling- but of course, she'd take the phone call. Meanwhile, to wait for his call, she turned on the Loyola-Istria game. She turned to her chief of staff, and motioned for him to sit down. "Hey, come and watch the game!" She told him. "We've got a 1st rounder on right now- we're playing Grande Mountain." And the two sat and watched the game.

She, of course, was hoping that the local school would be able to make the Final Four. That would be a huge boon to the city- guaranteed sellouts, everyone across the city would have Blue Thunder fever. Northern Moravica had already won on the day- and like any good Loyola fan, she couldn't stand Northern. And, of course, she wasn't rooting for Loyola-Busukuma either. How embarrassing would it be if the other Loyola went to the Final Four, which was in Istria? They'd never hear the end of it.

Just as the Blue Thunder were pushing their 1st round lead to 30 late in the second half, with an alley-oop, she got the phone call from Ousman Kaba. He had a proposal for her- one based on the upcoming expected success of the Final Four. But what was it? She listened intently as the OCB Chairman explained his idea...

All six Banijan Schools left in the NSCAA 11 Sweet 16 as the road to Istria gets tougher

Image
Northern Moravica players enter the game in NSCAA 11 Tournament 2nd Round win

ISTRIA, MORAVICA- Everybody's goal this season is to make it to Istria. For the first time, the Final Four will be held on home soil. ANd that coincides, so far, with the strongest season to date for Banijan schools in the NSCAA. We've never been hugely successful in this tournament, but that all changed last year. Not that we were especially strong in the regular season- but that the University Moravica had a miracle cinderella run all the way to the NSCAA Title game, before getting knocked off by Sadeg State University of Drawkland. But now, Banijan schools are thundering back. All are in the Sweet 16. It looks to be a party for Banija and St. Kanye, each with six schools in this round. But who can progress to the Elite 8, and ultimately, Istria?

University of Loyola-Istria

There is certainly pressure on the Blue Thunder. They've just seen their gridiron team win the NSCF XXI championship, and their school is absolutely on a high right now. College sports for the Blue Thunder have momentum. The opportunity to win both the NSCF and NSCAA championships in the same year is absolutely rare. To be able to align something like that would be nearly impossible. However, we have the Blue Thunder right here, who have the opportunity to do just that.

The Final Four is right in their backyard as well, just six miles from campus at Liberty Stadium. It would be a sporting environment unlike one we've ever seen if the Blue Thunder can make it there. Final Four virtually at home, the football team has just won it, all sorts of pressure on the Blue Thunder. But they have the toughest draw. Who will they play? None other than the #1 overall seed, out of St. Kanye, the Frostvale Institute of Technology. The school is 33-0. Have basically destroyed all challengers, especially of late. Their past 5 games have been 3 conference tournament games, plus two NSCAA 11 Tournament games. All neutral site, all single elimination. They've won by an average of 30.8. They open as favorites- but can the Blue Thunder pull off the upset to keep the dream of reaching the Final Four in their own city alive?

Northern Moravica v. University of Moravica

This is the first inter-Banijan matchup of NSCAA 11, and it could not come at a better time. It is Northern Moravica v. University of Moravica. These two schools, the two major public schools within the Moravica region, do not like each other, not a little bit. And they could not be more different culturally. Northern Moravica is much older. It is massive, It is urban, it is elite, it has academic prestige beyond Banija. It's in the shadow of the regional capitol. Its alumni are well-connected. And then, there is the University of Moravica. Smaller school. Rural. But, over the last 10 seasons both domestically and within the NSCAA, they've turned themselves from a mid-major to a basketball powerhouse.

The NSCAA 10 run to the championship game was not luck. It them continuing on their rise up the basketball ladder. They had finally won a national championship, and then were on the brink of following it up with a NSCAA Championship. And they've continued to improve. They went a staggering 27-1 during the regular season, and now, find themselves with a 30-2 record. The tournament's #3 overall seed, they won their opening game by a staggering 40 points, and then eliminated St. Leon by 29. On the other hand, Northern Moravica won a pair of close games to get to this point, defeating Victoriaville Business, and then Putnam Lake, each by single digits.

The smack talk has already started. Cougars Star player Chinwendu Chidey has already vowed that Northern would 'put U of M back in their place- just a regional school'. On the other hand, Ebrahima Faye, a star point guard for the Golden Bears, said that this game would 'decide which school had the best basketball program in Moravica'. The stakes for the matchup are high. The stakes are probably higher for U of Moravica. For one, Northern is their only rival- Northern also have a bigger rivalry with Loyola-Istria. And second, they came so close last time, losing by single digits to Sadeg State in the title game. With this year's championship game just a few hours away? They're definitely validated as a true basketball power now, considering they followed up a title game appearance by going 27-1, but they would love to have the rare accomplishment of making a second consecutive Final Four appearance.

Kizza I College

The Cubs would seem to have the clearest path to the Elite 8 out of any of Banijan school. Their opponent is the #58 seed, Akers State out of Northwest Kalactin. Akers State, of course, is a frequent preseason opponent for Loyola-Istria in gridiron. Of course, even though Akers State are the 7th lowest ranked team in the entire tournament, and are the lowest remaining, it doesn't mean they are out. Far from that. Akers State took on the #7 overall seed, and smashed them, winning by almost 20 in what will likely go down as the upset of the tournament. They then followed that up with a strong, 11 point victory over 95X University Pacific City.

But the Cubs had a good run to get here as well. In the 1st round, they blew out Cavsar University of Drawkland, and nearly dropped 100 on them. It was the 2nd round game that was much tougher. It was a strong, back and forth battle between the University of Concord Heights and Kizza I College. But in a game that was tied at 70 points per team, with just 45 seconds to go, Malick Gassama, perhaps surprisingly, took over. He hit the go-ahead 3 pointer to make it 73-70. And then, Concord Heights raced down the floor to make it 73-72. At the end of the shot clock, on the ensuing possesion, Gassama once again hit an open three pointer to make it 76-72. With just 6 seconds left, the game was nearly over. Duta Sonko got the steal on the ensuing inbound, and hit both free throws, to make it 78-72.

They won a tough won there- giving them big game, battle experience. Their seeding makes them favorites over Akers State- but the Kalactanians have already shown they don't care about who is the favorite on paper. Can the Cubs get one more step closer to Istria?

University of Loyola-Busukuma

Time for the other Loyola. And what a matchup we have? It'll be the second matchup of schools from the two countries that have dominated the NSCAA thus far, as Loyola-Busukuma take on the Elmore Heights Correctional Facility. Nobody knows how or why they let a Correctional Facility play college basketball, but Elmore Heights has one of the strongest teams in the tournament. But what an intriguing matchup this is. A Mormon seminary taking on a jail? Christians vs. Convicts as a name for the game has taken off, and some of the Loyola-Busukuma student body traveling to the game allegedly have shirts that say that.

While Loyola University has condemned the name, it has taken on a life of its own. There could not be a bigger contrast in institutions than a men's Theological Seminary for the Mormon Church, and an actual Correctional Facility. For that reason alone, it will be one of the most exciting games of the group stage. These may be the two smaller fanbases in the NSCAA, but their fans are energetic and passionate. It will be one of the closest games at this stage too. Who will win?

Hangaza Technological University

Hangaza Tech has a lot of parallels with University of Moravica. Both teams are top 4 seeds, both teams are 30-2 entering the Sweet 16. But they are different. Hangaza Tech is definitely the most unexpected of the Banijan schools to get to this stage. They've never really been a basketball power. Two seasons ago, they didn't even make the playoffs in the country as they went just .500. But in the ensuing season, they randomly made a run, winning in the first two rounds and making a miracle run to the semifinal. But could they build on that in a NSCAA year?

They did, steamrolling through their conference with a 27-1 record. This team earned the #4 overall seed, and has been just destroying all challengers. They have an opponent that is easy to overlook- Marquette College, of Hampton Island. The River Rats will be the heavy favorites in the game. A pair of blowout victories in the first two rounds brought them to this point. But nothing is guaranteed- Marquette College promises to be a challenging opponent. In games against top 20 sides, as the #52 overall seed, they dominated proceedings twice in a row.

IT makes for an interesting Sweet 16. Two Banijan schools face St. Kanye Schools. Two Banijan schools face schools from other countries(Hampton Island and Northwest Kalactin). While the last two Banijan schools face each other. Which ones will keep their road to Istria alive? We'll find out very soon, as the Sweet 16 tips off tonight.
