NSCAA 11- Six Banijan schools participating in NSCAA Competition this season as Loyola-Busukuma is let into the big boys club

Image
Scenes like this play out across the multiverse as teams try to qualify for the NSCAA Tournament

BUSUKUMA, NATIONAL CAPITOL REGION- There are six Banijan schools that will be playing in NSCAA 11- an increase from four last time out. The Banijan Collegiate Sports Group decided to enter anybody who qualified for the semifinals in either of the domestic seasons between NSCAA 10 and NSCAA 11 into the tournament, and they were six semifinalists, out of a possible 8. Banijan schools, although they usually traditionally struggle in this competition, are looking to improve for the upcoming season. University of Moravica made the breakthrough last season that the BCSG was looking for, reaching the NSCAA title game before being tossed aside by Sadeg State University, of Drawkland. Can a Banijan school get back to the Final Four this year?

University of Loyola-istria

The Blue Thunder, after a strong 7-1 start, are in a bit of a slump at the halfway point of the regular season of NSCAA 11. They're actually the defending national champions back home, defeating their archrivals Northern Moravica in a playoff series that went the distance. But it's a strange season in the Checkers- a 5 game losing streak pushed the Blue Thunder back to the mid-table in the Checkers Conference, a conference that's being won by a high school from Northwest Kalactin. This high school beat the Blue Thunder by a lone point, 84-83, on a buzzer beating shot that saw their fans storm the court. These are crazy times indeed.

OF course, it's NSCF season, one of the rare times that collides with basketball season, and of course, that's where attention is being focused. The Blue Thunder basketball team isn't playing games on Saturdays, for example. But 5 losses in a row after a blistering 7-1 start is obviously cause for concern. Of course, they still find themselves sitting in fifth place, in a 15 team conference at 8-6. That's not bad- that should be a decent enough place to get them into the tournament, and off the bubble. But it doesn't give them much belief in success in the NSCAA tournament, as being a 13th seed or worse would just give them some brutal matchups. They're being outshone by their sister campus in the capitol, and they'll want to get stronger as the second half comes along.

Northern Moravica University

Northern Moravica has had a strong first half of the season in the Sky Blue Conference. The Cougars, who are the defending national runners-up, are sitting pretty at 10-4. While they are two games behind the conference's leaders, who are a 12-2 New Lakeland University from Cassadaigua, the Cougars are in a three-way tie for second place in the regular season conference standings. That gives them, of course, an outside shot of winning the conference, even if the conference is deathly tight at the top.

Chinwendu Chidey, the four year starter at point guard, is leading the way for this Cougars team who wants to reclaim the mantle as the best team in Moravica. That title currently goes to Loyola-Istria, as the defending national champs, but on an international level, the team that is most famous is University of Moravica. Chidey is averaging 22 points and 7 assists per game, leading his team in both categories. With four upperclassmen in their starting lineup, there is a ton of experience across the board for the Cougars, who are looking to make a deep run. This is a tough team to try and beat. The high 3-2 zone defense puts pressure on guards, and makes getting to the rim, especially with the massive players they have in the paint, almost impossible. However, it is really poor at guarding the corner 3- it's a shot that Northern is willing to give up, to their own peril sometimes. Still, the offense is rolling, the defense is strong, and they have as good of a chance as any at getting an automatic bid to the tournament.

Kizza I College

One of the two Busukuma schools that are in the NSCAA way this season- the other, of course, being Loyola-Busukuma. Halfway through the regular season, they sit in a three-way tie atop the Pink 15 Conference, alongside the Kanyean Air Force Academy and 95X University Cactus. All three teams are 10-4. Akers State and Mar Sara Tech sit just behind the co-leaders at 9-5. Yes- that means, halfway through the season, just one game separates the fifth place team from the first place team in the Pink 15. This conference is extremely deep, top to bottom, and it is going to be tough for anybody to try to get enough of an advantage in this conference to actually go out and win it.

A team that likes to post up, with their bigs backs to the basket, plays very old school. That's why their offense, while good, isn't lighting up every scoreboard from here to St. Kanye and back. But players like Antouman Ceesay can post up extremely well, and if they get the entry passes, are dominant at the basket. While their defense nor their offense is record-beating, they play both at a high enough clip that they will be a tough out for anybody, both in conference play and eventually in the NSCAA Tournament.

University of Loyola-Busukuma

The church's major theologicial Seminary is playing college basketball at a higher clip than the main campus! It creates a very interesting dynamic in the Loyola University system- main campus, Istria, is 8-6 and in 5th place in their conference. Loyola-Busukuma is 11-3, the best record out of any of the 4 Banijan schools who have started games, and are tied for first place in the Royal Conference, with a legitimate chance to earn an automatic place in the NSCAA 11 Tournament. The fact that the Men's Theological Seminary is having a better season than the Blue Thunder is almost shocking in nature- this is something that almost never happens, and yet, here we are.

The Crusaders will surely have a lot to say if they make the NSCAA Tournament. So many observers want an inter-Banijan matchup in the NSCAA tournament, as so many rivalries could kindle- but the one that would be probably the most fun, would be the two Loyola campuses duking it out. Northern Moravica v. Loyola is what the people want, of course- that's the country's biggest rivalry. But for Loyola-Busukuma to knock Loyola-Istria out of the tournament? That'd infuriate fans of the Blue Thunder up and down the country, and that would be quite a fantastic matchup.

Banija's other two schools, Hangaza Tech and University of Moravica, have not started play yet. We'll update you on those schools once they do!

High Schoolers win in Banija on Buzzer Beater
St Mikes high school from Northwest Kalactin stays on their winning ways as they meet the halfway point of the season with a 12-2 record. The Kalactanian high school has been rolling through the checkers conference lately. On of their highlight wins was a win in a buzzer beater against Loyola Istria University from Banija. They also managed a 40 point whipping if Vangziland Technology College and a 19 point win over the beauty school from cassadaigua. Shooting Guard Joe Green has managed to keep his amazing stat line up averaging 35,7 and 4. He is expected to either go pro next year in Northwest Kalactin or go and play in a more prestigious international league. St. Mikes has managed to put up a impressive +217 point difference as their defense shows teams that even though they are smaller that doesn’t mean that they are worse. Other schools from Kalactin have also been enjoying the same success that St. Mikes has been having. The Akers State Kalactanians have put up a 9-5 record so far after a impressive 4-1 record yesterday. That included being the first kalactanian school to score over 100 points in a game this year in a 100-78 win. Northwest Ballina state has a mediocre week going 2-2 and maintaining a third place spot in their division. Their 2 losses were very disappointing although they were expected because the school had a reputation that year of going through a few rough patches. Overall though it was a good week though as Kalactanian schools amassed a 10-4 overall record.

Matchday 17: BREAK

Matchday 18: L 66-72 vs. Sabinal State (VAL)

QU's defense forced thirteen turnovers on the Bolgano-based squad in this huge win.

The Engineers beat the Hoops once more, aided by Dalton Parrish's 19 points, five assists and three steals.

Record So Far: 14-5, 2nd in Royal Conference

Matchday 16: W 89-62 vs. Golden City (BGN)

Matchday 17: W 101-68 vs. Northwest Ballina State (NKO)
This game showed a vastly different performance from the Redblues than when they lost by twelve in Matchday 2. Scott Sparks had 24 points and six steals, three on Redhawks star SF Patrick Green.

Matchday 18: W 82-77 vs. Osheana State University (CBP)

High Schoolers start 16-3
The high schoolers of St. Mikes have had another great week going 4-1 with their only loss coming to Arcadia university in a 76-72 nail biter. Senior shooting guard Joe Green has been averaging more than 35 points and 8 assists. He is single handily considered the greatest player ever to come out of Northwest Kalactin, so where does the star get this type of talent.
Joe Dwayne Green was born 18 years ago on January 24 his parents started him on sports at an early age, as many parents in Kalactin do. When he was 7 he started to be considered very tall for his age, he was expected to become 6-5 when he was an adult and had an unbelievable shooting touch. His parents entered him into a basketball league when he was 9 and he won 2 MVP awards before being kicked out because he was too good. He said “the league kicked me out because I was so dominant, I was breaking ankles and was almost dunking on kids when I stated dunking at 14 when I was 6-4 I made varsity in my freshman year. He transferred to St. Mikes in his Junior year so he could develop better and devote more time to basketball. Joe made varsity as a Junior and averaged 24-10-8 in his first year there. Joe is joe a dominant shooting guard expected to go pro straight out of high school.

Five-Game Recap: Queensbridge University (STK)
Record So Far: 19-4, 1st in Five Star Conference

Matchday 21: W 100-70 vs. University of Auster (VNG)
Queensbridge students have calculated that Jareth Livingston contributed 23% of the Engineers' score in this game. But how many points is that?

Matchday 22: W 92-61 vs. University of Osheana (CBP)
Livingston scored 19 in QU's win against the Goshawks, and Matt Murasaki added 14 and six assists.

Matchday 23: W 78-77 vs. University of San Marco (FID)
The Engineers almost lose this one, trailing 69-75 with a minute and a half remaining, but escape thanks to three straight three-pointers, one each from Dalton Parrish, backup SF Ted Garcia, and then Murasaki.

Matchday 24: W 81-57 vs. Angeles City Women's College (AIG)
Parrish's double-double of 17 points and eleven assists helped the boys in red and bronze outlast the all-girl Andromedan squad. And of course there's the defense.

Matchday 25: W 75-73 vs. Chromatik City College University (CMT)
Tyron McDowell calmly sank two free throws at the end of the game to give the Engineers the win over the Comets.

Five-Game Recap: Kanyean Air Force Academy (STK)
Record So Far: 19-5, 1st in Pink 15 Conference

Matchday 21: W 86-73 vs. Z'ai'ai Institute of Technology (CMT)
Back in Matchday 6, the Hellcats beat the Warhawks on a last-second three. In this game, they sink a last-second three once more, but it didn't matter as KAFA were already ahead by a large margin.

Matchday 22: W 78-63 vs. 95X University Cactus (NFX)
Zach Robinson is making the most out of his new role as starting PG. A day after dropping twenty on the Hellcats, he scored twenty-five against the 95X natives.

Matchday 23: L 74-82 vs. Akers State (NKO)
The Kalactanians hold Robinson to just nine points, which enabled them to grab the win and snap the Warhawks' streak at ten.

Matchday 24: W 90-58 vs. Basket College United (BGN)
Robinson scored in double digits once more with twelve, but it was Vincent Wood being the top scorer for KAFA with 21.

Matchday 25: W 89-63 vs. Central College (LTX)
The Warhawks allow their opponents just one three-point shot in this big win. Jean Brady scored seven of his 22 points in the final minute.

Five-Game Recap: University of Bompton (STK)
Final Record: 21-7, 2nd in Royal Conference

Matchday 26: W 77-74 vs. Victoriaville Business School (CDG)
Everyone thought this game would go into overtime. But when the referees nullified Chloe Seidel's three-pointer for coming too late, the pro-Bompton section of the stadium went wild.

Matchday 27: W 84-83 vs. 95X University Cascadia (NFX)
Another day, another nail-biting win for the Redblues as the backups shone in the endgame. Center Hercules Bongo scored the go-ahead dunk with 0:04 left, and PF Jeremy Carson blocked the opponents' jump shot attempt after.

Matchday 28: L 77-83 vs. Alex Zach Free University (TRL)
Unfortunately, UB's next close game saw them on the losing side. Von Fields scored 21, and could have helped the team win if he hadn't fouled out halfway through the fourth period.

Matchday 29: W 92-66 vs. Cavsar University (DRK)
7'2" Bongo was inserted as a starter against the tall Gladiators, and he didn't disappoint, scoring 27, hauling in fifteen rebounds, and recording five blocks.

Matchday 30: W 95-68 vs. Depri Sanar University (CMT)
Bruce Coleman scored 23, and Fields added 18 as the Redblues win big in the final matchday of the regular season.

Bompton missed out on the top spot in the conference and an automatic Ultra 64 berth, but the team is still hoping to make it there with a good run in the conference playoffs.

Matchday 30
San Marco vs Angeles City Women’s College
The University of San Marco
San Marco, Filinodistan
9:55 pm

With two minutes left in the fourth quarter, Angeles City Women’s College is down 74-60. Their star player, Sadie Smith, is on the bench with four fouls.

A high-school phenom in Angeles City, Smith is the first person in her family to go to college. A four-year starter, Smith ’s star lost much of its luster at ACWC. She has played under three different coaches in her five years, and the quality of her teammates hasn’t improved. Furthermore, Smith struggled academically in her first year, causing her to red shirt her sophomore year. She currently has a 2.4 GPA.

Today, Sadie Smith’s play was hampered by worries about her Biology class. She is nine credits short of graduating. She has been on the bench for the past few minutes, eagerly awaiting a text message on her iPhone about her midterm. The reserves are in the game, defending the San Marco Center.

“Foul, #11.”

Just at that moment, Smith receives a text message from the school. She quickly opens the message as the San Marco Center goes to the foul line. She scrolls down to her name. She got a B+ on her Biology Exam. Smith is ecstatic. The San Marco Center makes her first foul shot.

San Marco 75-60.

Smith feels a weight off of her shoulders. She puts the iPhone down and watches the game intently, barely able to conceal her glee. Her coach notices and makes a judgment call.

“Smith, you’re in.”

The game has already been decided, but the coach decides it can’t hurt for Smith to go in. It’s her last regular season game.

Once Smith is in, the center makes her second foul shot. 76-60. Smith inbounds the ball to the point, then runs down court. The point passes it to Smith, who posts at the top of the key and makes a three before the San Marco players could set up the defense.

76-63.

The San Marco point guard attempts to pass the ball in. Smith, guarding the point, intercepts the point and goes in for the easy layup.

76-65.

The San Marco shooting guard, fearing another interception, throws a baseball pass down court. After setting up the play, their power forward makes a bank shot over his ACWC defender the at the shot clock expires.

78-65.

Smith inbounds the ball. The point guard sees that there are less than 30 seconds left. She dribbles the ball down. Most of the players are going through the motions, knowing that San Marco will get the W. She passes the ball to the small forward who passes it back. She passes it to Smith who immediately shoots the three over a taller defender.

Swish.

78-68.

The San Marco shooting guard inbounds the ball with 10 seconds left. Their point guard stands in the back court until the clock expires.

Sadie Smith ends the game with 26 points and 5 steals. She just finished her final regular season game at Angeles City Women’s College. She feels good, knowing that she will likely graduate in May. She hopes her next game, against U of Osheana, won’t be her last.

“Hey, Sadie.”

Her coach taps her on the shoulder as the team enters the locker room.

“How’d you do on that test?”

The Coach knew that Smith did well, judging by how she played in the last two minutes.

“I’m going to graduate, Coach.”

“Good. I thought you should know that a scout from the Red Roses was watching tonight. She’ll be with us on the plane back.”

The Silla Red Roses are the Andromeda Women’s Basketball Team from Silla State.

Despite the loss, Smith thanks her lucky stars that she was able to end the game the way she did.

Bid Book Highlight- BCSG officially launches bid to host the NSCAA 11 Final Four in Istria at Liberty Stadium

ISTRIA, MORAVICA- For those who follow these things, the announcement coming today out of Banija was no surprise- the Banijan Collegiate Sports Group has long had a goal of hosting the Final Four for the NSCAA. College sports is a big deal in this country, and of course, the BCSG has made an effort to ensure Banija competes at the highest level internationally in college sports. They've ensured that the country has had a platform to showcase our hosting abilities, especially through the NSCF. Liberty Stadium has hosted both the NSCF 12 and NSCF 14 Title games, as well as the Stadium of the Restoration in Banija playing host to the NSCF 18 Title Game. Of course, that's a different sport entirely.

College football is undoubtedly king here. But college basketball is growing in importance. Banija's college basketball fortunes have improved over the years, with University of Moravica's stunning run to the NSCAA 10 Title Game, in Tundra Falls, at the top of that mountain. Banijan schools are putting in their strongest collective performance yet. For the first time, a Banijan school has won an automatic bid to the Ultra 64, with Loyola-Busukuma, of all schools, winning their conference championship outright with a 22-6 record. Loyola-Istria and Kizza I College both did not win their conference, but both finished with 20 wins. Northern Moravica finished 18-10. It's quite possible all 6 Banijan schools go to the NSCAA tournament, which would be a Banijan record.

So it is no surprise that the BCSG has decided to bid. They've put together an impressive list of (Banijan) Ambassadors, including the captain of the Kadongo Kamu, Gitonga Kahara, and WCC Vice President Adama Sowe, showing their commitment to bringing the pinnacle of international college basketball to Banijan soil for the first time. While, of course, we're not going to put the whole dang bid book in here, we'll show you the highlights of the Banijan bid- what has been emphasized, its self-proclaimed strengths, and it's supporters.

City- Istria, Moravica

Absolutely nobody was surprised when Istria was the city picked here. It is Banija's largest city, of course. But with the country's national stadium about 4 hours south in Busukuma, which is also the national capitol, most finals for tournaments that Banija hosts end up there. World Bowl Finals, a former UICA Globe Cup Final, two World Cup opening matches, etc... held there. But Istria is Banija's largest city. It is the country's vital economic engine. Holding 3 million people, easily Banija's most diverse city. Right on the northwest coast, in Southern Moravica.

The city of Istria has hosted the NSCF 12 and NSCF 14 Finals, both at Liberty Stadium. They've hosted multiple World Bowl semifinals. They've hosted both group and knockout stage matches in both World Cup 81 and World Cup 83. The city is well-equipped for the projected influx of visitors, with all sorts of hotel space and plenty of things to do in the city. Of course, in traditional Banijan fashion, they've proposed both semifinals being played on a Saturday, and the Final being played 2 days later on a Monday- therefore not playing on a Sunday. They've also promised to hold a festival on the Friday before the Final Four, just one day before, celebrating the four schools that make the final four, plus whatever Banijan schools make the NSCAA Tournament.

Venue- Liberty Stadium

Liberty Stadium(pictured above), unsurprisingly, will be the venue for the trio of games. It is primarily an indoor gridiron stadium, where the Istria Black Mambas of the Gridiron Football League of Banija have their home stadium. It is a stadium that, in its basketball configuration, with a slight seat reduction, will seat 77,000- a large venue for basketball, but appropriately sized for the Final Four, which is traditionally held in larger than normal venues. The venue was used on the international stage for basketball once- when Banija and Qasden played there during the 25th International Basketball Championships.

Of course, as mentioned above, it is a venue that has hosted championships events- hosting both the NSCF 12 and NSCF 14 Championship games. It also, every other year, hosts the Moravica Regional High School Football championships. The venue is a modern venue- equipped with quite a few suites, solid sightlines across the stadium, and of course, located on the city's oceanfront. All suites are available to be rented out. This venue, of course, is located just a few miles from the University of Loyola-Istria, a NSCAA member institution.

Supporters

Of course, maybe this is more geared more towards a domestic audience- a list of a bunch of big name Banijan supporters of the bid is not surprising. But in so much as you can generate star power with your own nationals, the list is impressive, considering the number of Ambassadors who have nothing to do with college sports. Gitonga Kahara, the OAS Royal FC Winger, the captain of the Banijan national soccer team, is listed as an Ambassador. So is Adama Sowe, the WCC Vice President. But the list includes more and more big names. Ousman Kakay, the WBC 47 winning manager for Banija's national baseball team, is listed as an Ambassador. Figures from across the Banijan sporting scene are listed as Ambassadors and supporters of this bid.

How much sway does that have with the NSCAA? We'll see? Regardless, along with all sorts of big names, all 59 Banijan BCSG schools, including the six Banijan schools in the NSCAA, are all signed on as supporters of this bid. A show of unity, as they say. Both the City of Istria, via the Mayor and the City Council, alongside the Moravica Regional Government, have pledged governmental support for the bid.

The bid is undoubtedly strong, and it is first out of the gate. But will it be accepted? We'll have to wait and see whenever the NSCAA committee votes on the issue.
