Pitches in Ko-oren

Geography and climate have some influence on results. Batsmen, or different kinds of bowlers are favoured on different kinds of pitches. If you're ever interested in watching a match here, or even play here, this is what you can expect based on the location of your club.

Mawryshire
The biggest challenge across Mawryshire really isn't the pitch. The winds pick up randomly and haphazardly, so playing any kind of lofted shot is a game of chance, but it has its effect on bowling as well. There are tons of instances where a shot is just carried over the boundary by the wind, or where a miraculous boundary catch was possible just because a gust kept the ball from going cleanly over the rope. Pitches are generally quite grassy, slightly wet, and tend not to deteriorate too much over time. Batsmen should be cautious and patient.

West Surbourneshire
This region is just east from Mawryshire, so you could imagine the conditions are very similar. Which is true, for the slightly grassy pitches and how nothing can ever really dry out there. There are still some windy conditions, but it's really nothing compared to Mawryshire. There can be some bounce, and the contest between bat and ball is just about as even as you'll find across the archipelago. There are some minute differences between seaside venues as opposed to inland places. The fact that this region includes the island of Burnet doesn't change much, surprisingly.

Greencaster
This region is comprised of just a single city. Its surburban pitches behave exactly like those in West Surbourneshire. The pitches surrounded by the larger stadiums have fully embraced the drop-in pitch. Not just Greencaster Oval, but also Emermere Oval (used by three of its 12 local division clubs) and Verdant Oval (used by another two clubs) have these.

East Surbourneshire
Like West Surbourneshire, this region has a lot of seaside venues, as well as some inland ones. Its largest cities, especially those used for international cricket, count as inland. There are no grassy pitches here, conditions are much, much drier, sometimes even dusty. This creates a unique setting of firm bat-friendly pitches, that often deteriorate into spin-friendly, sandy pitches. Groundsmen have a considerably tougher job just to make pitches useable even just for the first few days of a match, and it's nearly impossible to keep a pitch consistent for all four-to-five days. The further east you go, the 'worse' it gets. Cirelbourne is a lot friendlier than Bruncester, for example. Bruncester is further away from the coast, has less influence from the river the city's on, and is located further east.

Leeshire
Finally we've departed from the seaside regions. Leeshire is massive, spanning from the mountainous west all the way to the plains. Therefore, conditions differ slightly from city to city. In general, pitches are drier and bouncier, providing higher scores than anywhere else in the country. It can get pretty hot here as well, further creating bat-friendly cricket. Aubury and Idyllwild are close to the mountains, so early and late in the season there could be some deviation. The rest, from Maynard, to Huthwich, and everything in between, is fairly even year-round. On the local level, there are some clubs from West Strand Riding's Eaglebury included, but their situation is much more like Mawryshire than Leeshire.

Willowbourne
As another region that's just one single city, Willowbourne has three actual stadiums. Royal Oval is the largest, used by the national team often, and is kept very natural, like Leeshire's east: dry, bouncy, well-maintained, and good for high scores. Shephall Oval and Summerkind Oval are suburban and may use drop-ins if things get dire.

Other places
Other locations will never be used for international cricket, but they're worth a mention. Cricket is a staple in summer for the southwest, which is where the six regions mentioned above are. That said, the sport is expanding a little into other places, where the playing season is a little shorter, or where baseball is a larger sport than cricket.
Mayara has seaside conditions like West Surbourneshire, though a bit colder.
Cote Austral has seaside like West Surbourneshire in the north. It's exactly like East Surbourneshire in the south, where Cote Austral almost turns to desert on Finisterre's border.

Press Release: TKV Confirms Home Test Series with Pratapgadh

STELBURG -- The TKV (Teus Kricket-Verband) can confirm today that it has scheduled a 3-match test series with Pratapgadh, to be played on matchdays 12, 13 and 14 of the GCF season.

"We're excited to add another series to our calendar, it has been a great start to the season so far with two wins for our Edelweiss on home territory, and this provides more fans a chance to see their heroes," said TKV chair David Beck in a press conference today. "Playing another rising cricket nation in Pratapgadh will also provide a strong challenge for our boys."

The series adds to Teusland's schedule of matches this season that will see the Edelweiss take on Apox in one final test in St. Jakob, the Edelweiss currently lead the series 2-0 after a runaway win in the second test. Pending the Busoga Islands' reaching GCF Associate Member status, the Edelweiss will then travel to the Busoga Islands for a three-match away series. As the two nations are, currently, the only nations in the Southwest of Atlantian Oceania to play international test cricket, the series has the potential to be the beginning of a great friendly rivalry. The Edelweiss will now round out their season at home with the series against Pratapgadh.

At the press conference in Stelburg, the TKV also announced which venues would play host to the series. Venues across the nation were considered, and in the end the three that were chosen show the TKV's desire to bring Edelweiss matches to all corners of Teusland, as they will travel to the northeast in Felsenkirchen and the south in Kaiserhaven, before finishing up the season back in Stelburg. Here is the full venue list for the series:

Maritim Oval, Kaiserhaven (Matchday 12 vs Pratapgadh, +3)
The Maritim Oval is considered to be the heart of the naval tradition within Teus cricket, originally founded by Teus Navy sailors based in the city during the developing stages of cricket in the country. In fact, the clock hanging above the east stand was taken from the deck of the SMS Kaiser-Johann-IV, an old frigate in naval service at the time. Home to the Marine Cricket Club, it is the second-oldest in the country, and seats 20,000 spectators after recent upgrades. It is perched on a hill overlooking the Old Port of Kaiserhaven, and is favourable to batsmen.

Felsenkirchen Stadtoval, Felsenkirchen (Matchday 13 vs Pratapgadh, +1)
The Stadtoval has a long history, originally built on the grounds of the St. Adelaide church in Felsenkirchen for parish play. After the St. Adelaide Church was moved, the land became common land owned by the City, who kept the oval in shape for local activities. The city still owns the land, and while the Stadtoval itself now seats 12,000 and is used for professional play, the area surrounding it now contains cricket and football pitches for local activity. It is located right in the Old City of Felsenkirchen, near the old port, and is an interesting site within the city.

Imperial Oval, Stelburg (Matchday 14 vs Pratapgadh, +2)
The oldest ground in the country and the home of Teus cricket. The Imperial Oval lies on the grounds of the Sanssouci Palace in Stelburg, and after upgrades seats 25,000 spectators. Surrounded by gardens and historic buildings, the Imperial is quite the place to take in a match. It is home to the Kaiserliche Cricket Club, one of the oldest in the nation, and founded by Kronprinz Franz in the late 1700s after his return from service in the Navy. Overall, the pitch is somewhat favourable to batsmen.

Next up for the Edelweiss is the third Apox test, live from the Metropolitan Cricket Ground in St. Jakob, and the sold-out event is a must-see. RBC Sports and the Stelburger Zeitung will have officially licensed coverage of all Teusland international tests. Thank you for following your Edelweiss.

Busoga Islanders drop close games in opening two games of Damukuni tour

Image
Islander players after Day 1 of their first match in Damukuni

DAMUKUNI- And it is that time of year, once again, for the Busoga Islands. International test cricket season has arrived! And we are playing with perhaps our number one partner in cricket, Damukuni. As we're all aware, the six professional Twenty20 crickets sides from the Busoga Islands participate in a joint professional cricket league, as an ambitious venture between Damukuni cricketing authorities and the Busoga Islands Cricket Board. It has been a success here in the Busoga Islands. The chance for players to play professionally against foreign teams, helps raise the standard across the Islands, as well as helping the sport compete with football as the country's most popular.

So it was no surprise when the Busoga Islander Cricket Board announced a four match tour of Damukuni as its opening test series of International test cricket. It is an opponent that the Busoga Islander Cricket Board has made a priority to play, considering the bonds between the two cricketing governing associations. Even Bahram Almasi, the 27 year old captain, said that the match was a big game for the Busoga Islands. "Familiarity always improves game atmospheres in international sport." Almasi told reporters. "The familiarity between players on our national team, and on their national team, simply makes this much more interesting. We've all played in Damukuni before. It's an exciting schedule laid out before us this season- Damukuni, and then, hopefully we are able to secure a matchup against Teusland- a battle for the Glorious Southwest."

And the Islanders, halfway through their opening tour of Damukuni, are a brutal 0-2. Not as in, they've been ran out off the ground on either matchday. No, they've played close games, competitive games, and yet, have not been able to pull off a victory on either matchday. Let's go back to Matchday 1, at the start of the GCF World Challenge 11. The Busoga Islands came out flying on the first day. They came out scoring a stunning 429 runs in their first innings of the opening match. The Busoga Islander batsmen were unstoppable. It was the second most productive innings out of any team on Matchday 1, in general, just shy of Eastfield Lodge scoring 463.

Coming out like that, you would have thought that this team was well on its way to stealing the opening match of the tour away from home, and putting themselves just one step closer to earning Associate Status in the Global Cricket Federation. Especially since by the time Damukuni went all out, they were down nearly 100 runs. Another strong day from the Islander batsmen in the third innings of this match would be able to put the match effectively out of reach, and give the Busoga Islands exactly what they've been looking for- a strong, opening day win, that they could use to parlay momentum into eventually reaching test status.

Nobody thought that the Busoga Islands, in the third innings, would score 400 more runs. That'd be incredibly insane. But, of course, their drastic overperformance saw a correction back to the mean in the third innings. Scoring only 237 runs, a near 200 run dropoff from the first innings, gave Damukuni a chance. And it would be the hosts who would win by just 3 wickets, as Damukuni's batsmen did just enough to knock down their opponents on the matchday. But the next Matchday would be even closer- Damukuni would win by just two wickets, barely surviving another strong challenge from the Busoga Islands. But it is what it is- 0-2 is 0-2.

"We, obviously, are almost there." Bahram Almasi told reporters after the team's second consecutive close loss. "We just need to be a little bit stronger, a little bit smarter, to turn these closes loses against an excellent side like Damukuni, into wins. We think that this nation is capable of climbing the ladder in this sport. We may be a small country- but there is true passion for the game, and there is heart, and most importantly, there is talent. We don't want to lose 3 in a row, we understand that our next match is a must-win against Damukuni. We'll do what we can, what it takes, to win that match and put this season back on track."

Other Cricketing News- Busoga Islands Cricket Board announces 'Star of the Southwest' Trophy with Teusland
LAKISKA, SOUTH ISLAND- The BICB has confirmed its intentions to schedule a 3 match test cricket series with Teusland. A press officer told us the reasoning behind the match. "Well, in this sport, you always want to establish connections with your neighbors. We have deep connections with Damukuni, which we greatly value and appreciate, but we need to make sure that we are strong in the near abroad. We're proudly located in the Glorious Southwest of Atlantian Oceania, one of the most competitive subregions of sport in the world. Just look at football- the last two World Cup winners, Equestria and Farfadillis, are from this region. Valanora's won that tournament five times."

"Cricket, obviously, is not as big of a sport in the Glorious Southwest. But that is exactly why we should work to strengthen the potential partnerships within the Glorious Southwest for cricket. So with our equivalents in Teusland deeming it an equal priority, as the subregion's two cricketing nations, we are planting the flag on a regional level. We would like to credit our friends from Teusland for their creativity as they came up with this name, which we think best reflects this sport in this subregion- the 'Star of the Southwest' Trophy will be contested between Teusland and our nation. When our ability to schedule a series against Teusland is confirmed, venues will be announced for Matchdays 7-9, but this is going to be another rivalry that will be important, not only in test cricket, but this sport in all of it's forms, the battles between Teusland and the Busoga Islands."

The Busoga Islands prepare for the third match of the test season in Damukuni coming up, that will start tomorrow night, where they will look for their first victory of the campaign.

Darmen series nearly over; Schedule creeping

Three out of four test matches against and in Darmen have finished by now. With just one more result ahead of us, the series is split right down the middle with one win for each team and one draw. Three matches, three different sides of test cricket. The difference between the second and third match was especially grand, the second match decided by long innings, patient batting and extremely rare outs. Twaddle recorded a double ton, and Wheelwright scored a century of his own in the same innings where Ko-oren exploded for 574 runs. That was in response to 440 set as a first innings target by Darmen, both at fairly slow paces of under 3 runs per over. Sixteen boundaries by Twaddle, a monster performance, but then again both teams were extremely cautious at bat. It's not like this caution was thrown out of the window entirely, but the third match was definitely a different beast. Wickets fell often, bails flew through the air at regular intervals, and the only recurring thing in the match was how well the openers kept things together. The worst opening stand was 28, set in Ko-oren's first innings, where both teams struggled to get 200 runs in a single innings. Twaddle's 224 of the previous match is higher than any of the four innings in this one. Ko-oren's 212 over-innings is longer than this entire match.

And worst of all, the Darmeni came out victorious.

Ko-oren 1st - 10/170 (56.2)
Opening stand - 30
Highest score - 69 yChaegrheodd
Best bowler - 4-28 Myers
Extras - 16
RR - 3,02

Darmeni grounds don't really differ much, with exception to Brham where batsmen are invincible (as we saw). Chuckio is similar to Liverpool, and it's a good preparation for Scott City's conditions, where Ko-oren will have to try to win this series on foreign soil. Anyhow, Twaddle and Langhorne got the match underway like it was Brham, but once Twaddle fell, it all came apart quite quickly. Langhorne disappeared two deliveries after that, kickstarting Myers' four-wicket display. Then getting the Leeshire duo, White and Stanway, which really isn't something any bowler in the multiverse would look forward to. They weren't together for more than an over. The grassy pitch made the seam impossible to play, with Dickenson and Rosenfeld suppressing runs. Interestingly, it was Myers who sent bails flying. Either way, this was all the work of the bowlers.

Darmen 1st - 10/164 (30.1)
Opening stand - 28
Highest score - 67 Ready
Best bowler - 4-27 Fox
Extras - 16
RR - 5,44

At least Marsden and his compatriots paid attention. Fox, Marsden, and Courtenay were responsible for 26 out of 30 overs. Fox was very close to a five-for, but two failed catches in the slips saw him fall short. Still, Wheelwright caught three batsmen out. Only Milligan was caught out near the boundary, all others fell in the infield. That said, Ready did put together a decent innings, and after him it was all bad all the way through. The weather really didn't have anything on this, it was probably a combination of the previous match not really setting an example for what to expect here, poor batting conditions on the day, and the bowlers more than ready to take revenge for Brham. Really, the all greens weren't out there for a full session.

Ko-oren 2nd - 10/209 (56.4)
Opening stand - 36
Highest score - 79 Stanway
Best bowler - 4-34 Rosenfeld
Extras - 19
RR - 3,69

More of the same, but a little more measured, with the second Ko-orenite innings. Twaddle and Langhorne were excellent once again, and after that it all came apart. Stanway survived through the entire innings once he came on, witnessing eight teammates lose it in the infield. No matter how much Stanway ordered the other batsmen to wait it out and only hit poorly bowled balls, the lower end was baited into swinging anyway under threat of getting off stump hit, seam again playing a big role even if most deliveries skidded through outside off. There were some lucky runs scored if the ball deviated too far out of reach from Armbruster. Once Rosenfeld pitched the ball towards on, he collected three LBWs. This was no match for the bowlers.

Darmen 2nd - 8/219 (48.4)
Opening stand - 38
Highest score - 81 Ready
Best bowler - 3-35 Courtenay
Extras - 19
RR - 4,5

This was no match for the bowlers - on either side. Darmen only needed to survive for a while to get the win. 200+ runs was doable, especially if taken slowly, and they had three innings of experience to guide them. Even so, there were ill-advised moves. Ready was the big man for the hosts once again, scoring a total of 148 runs out of 383 total, guiding his team to victory only to lose his wicket a few overs before the end. No worries, the last 15 runs were collected by Myers and Rosenfeld, aided by illegal deliveries, and Ko-oren almost got the hosts all out in time. Almost.

Meanwhile, the gaping hole in the middle of the season was filled by Northwest Kalactin visiting for two Tests. They will visit right after the Darmen Tests. It will be the first time the two teams meet, and with the KCB only planning matches for the smaller grounds, maybe we will see Greencaster Oval in action after all.

Several grounds are still in contention. Seven grounds have been appointed official Test grounds by the KCB, but it seems they have not yet agreed on whether to include more venues on that list. Stay tuned for official communications, and to see if suburban grounds will host a Test as well.

Apologies for the slightly slapdash quality of this - as this turns out to very much be the Hell Timeline, there's been other things on my mind and my brain's turned to mush a little bit. I've tried to make this live up (down?) to my usual quality level but there might be some omissions or errors, mainly in the lack of an emblem for Sajnur - I couldn't find any non-cartoony cricketing crocodiles, and I'm awful at drawing I'm afraid, so apologies. Rest assured that if you come up with a flag or crest I'll be more than happy to butcher it for you in MS Paint!
My thanks also to Mriin for offering the use of an umpire - and to Damukuni as well, although I think you'll understand the mental image of a giant, kickboxing, fiery chicken being extremely certain about a run out decision particularly appealed to me. (The Gazette politely didn't mention species!)
Good luck to everyone for the next Test - and be safe out there...

FOXES TAME SAJNUR IN SERIES OPENER
by Denis Wormwood, Sporting Correspondent, in Sutton

There had been a certain amount of trepidation going into the first Test of the season, as there always is with the Plough Islands, but the country instead awoke to a still, misty morning and the still somewhat unfamiliar sensation that was Kevin Laing's team having the situation firmly under control. Sajnur had given more than a good account of themselves, but calm heads had prevailed and, in truth, the Foxes had always had the measure of the tourists.
When the fog finally lifted and allowed play to begin, an hour later than scheduled on the fourth day, there was an anticipatory and slightly uneasy atmosphere in a packed December Park. Eight wickets down, all-rounder Toljo Jorse and tail-ender Karim Haton were unlikely to add much to Sajnur's slender overnight lead of just 44, and thousands of Foxes watching around the pitch and following on the radio scented blood, but nobody wanted a bloodbath. Sajnur fought, as they had done all match, but it took just 27 deliveries for the tail to be removed; Shauna Weaver finally got under the skin of Jorse (58) with her third ball, and then six deliveries later last man Nikolas Burovin clipped Naomi Salisbury straight into Laing's arms over by square leg; the hosts would need just 51 runs to complete a remarkable first Test victory of 2020.
While Graeme Holt set the tone for what was to follow by immediately dabbing Alan Tijer's first delivery to mid-on for a single, Colin Williams - the New Hibernia captain having made just four in his debut innings for the senior Foxes - was perhaps too eager to follow, and in trying to dig out Tijer's yorker was rapped on the shin and gone first ball, sealing what had not been a match to remember for the right-hander. Ultimately, though, he was probably the only Plough Islander disappointed with the session, as Holt - joined by Weaver, who supported in similar vein - proceeded to hit back at the Sajnuran bowlers with a succession of boundaries, with Burovin conceding 26 runs in four overs as Holt and Weaver punished every slightly wayward delivery. Increasingly willed on by a capacity December Park crowd, it took just under an hour for them to reach their total, with Weaver dispatching Burovin to the midwicket boundary to bring up the winning runs and set off a flurry of high-pitched cheers that could be heard all around Sutton.
Despite what was to unfold, Sajnur had in fact started more brightly than some of their number had been predicting; Laing had put the tourists in to bat with half an eye on securing the best of the freshly rolled pitch for Colin McCarthy and David Heath, the latter also making his Test debut, but the Sajnurans had initially resisted the pace onslaught well; Gabriela Fiume in particular imposed herself on the match well and was unafraid to stand up and play in the early, hostile exchanges. A switch to Salisbury brought dividends for Laing, though, the left-arm spinner catching out the young Harry Kotte as the opener top-edged straight into Ilya Lebed's chest for 12, and from then on Sajnur were continually pegged back by Salisbury and McCarthy, who took casualties with some regularity as Sajnur tried, in some vain, to take the battle to the Foxes.
They had done well to get to 140-3 by lunch, but a horrible error of judgment saw the otherwise solid Solomon Tawas, playing in his first international game, set off for a run that was never there; Salisbury expertly fielded her own bowling, her direct hit stranding the left-hander for 32 just seventeen balls after play resumed, and though the tourists were not to know it, so would arguably go their foothold in the match. Fiume (41) went shortly afterwards, in a rather more contentious run out that the Foxes fielders seemed rather less sure about than Grover umpire Burnadette Taylor ultimately was, and losing their best partnership weighed heavily on Sajnuran minds as McCarthy (3-46) and Weaver (2-11) combined to bow away the tail enders; they ultimately collapsed to 165 all out.
Sajnur, however, started brightly with the ball as well as with the bat; while Williams' dismissal in just his fifth ball faced in Test cricket was arguably down to hesitation as he gave Burovin the thinnest of edges through to Surju, Tijer's perfect inswinger that bowled Holt (12) through his legs was no accident. The incoming partnership of Weaver and Laing proved rather harder to contain, however, and Sajnuran captain Tomas Piqa was soon having to rotate his bowlers as the former, in particular, got stuck in. The partnership lasted overnight and well into the second morning, scoring a century and a half from 37 overs; most of which seemed to come from Weaver alternately dispatching the Sajnuran pacers to the leg side or back behind the wicketkeeper to score boundaries seemingly at will.
By the time Laing finally left too much of a gap to Burovin and lost his off stump on 70, the Foxes had already surpassed the visitors' total, and Weaver and new partner Audrey Leggett set about building on the foundations laid; Weaver was able to reach three figures, her fifth Test century, before Sajnur could respond through a tricky, full-stretch catch by Kotte in the gully that finally removed the right-handed all-rounder. Having taken out Weaver, Jorse then set about causing more trouble for the Plough Islander middle order. Leggett was run out at the non-striker's end after Jorse took advantage of her poor positioning, and David Heath was trapped lbw first ball, it having been a poor match for debutants from both sides. Piqa's side were into the tail now, but Ilya Lebed (34) and Sarah Ashe (19) dug in, frustrating the Sajnuran attack as they looked to limit the damage, with McCarthy also contributing a gritty unbeaten 28 from tenth in the order as the Foxes were finally dismissed with a lead of 154.
Though the situation by now was bleak for the tourists, there was little sign of any mental struggle from Fiume; the Sajnuran vice-captain again breezily set about reducing the margin and set her stall out early by sweeping McCarthy for consecutive fours. The New Dalmatian pacer soon had his revenge; after Heath had her partner Kotte dismissed lbw for 20, he had a frightening spell just before tea on the third day, taking 3-9 including the wickets of Piqa and Surju to briefly raise the prospect that the match might not see a fourth innings. Fiume remained, though, and with Jorse entrenched herself after tea; containing McCarthy and playing opportunistic, sensible scoring shots against the Foxes' spinners, the pair put on a well deserved 80 for the sixth wicket as they battled hard to wipe out the first-innings lead. Eventually Fiume came undone; trying to target the part-time fundamentalist leg breaks of Leggett, she mistimed a sweep and toe-ended the ball straight back at her for 79, and the Sajnuran tail was once more exposed; as an evening fog began to descend on Sutton, the tourists were able to get more value for their wickets than they had in the first innings, with the ninth-wicket pair of Jorse and Haton taking the fight into today.
Despite the margin of victory, Laing was quick to praise the Sajnurans; "We did not underestimate how much damage they can do...they had as many opportunities to get on top of the match as we did, if not more, and they fought really hard, if we made it look easy it certainly did not feel that way for me out in the field!". Head coach Lourens Hendricks was less circumspect about the result - "Ag, man, something to cheer about at the start of a season for once!" - but warned "they are gonna be stronger and harder after this, they are the top ranked Associate for a reason. I was happy with how precise we were but we need to keep that up"
Certainly, the manner in which the Plough Islands were able to clinically wrap up the victory will be cause for Laing and Hendricks to relax, although they are not without concern as attention turns to Foxdale. It is understood by this author that while Williams will get at least the Foxdale Test - and likely for the remainder of the series - to prove himself after a debut with its fair share of extenuating circumstances, Heath's bowling, which failed to replicate his performances in previous limited-overs matches, is likely to be ineffective at the Foxdale Sports Club. Hendricks confirmed they were looking at other candidates; the logical choice would be Bradford leg-spinner Jonathan Iddon, who was reliable at first-class level last year and who is likely to cause the Plough Islands Cricket Association fewer headaches outside the boundary rope than the at times outspoken Heath.
In all the circumstances, however, there is far more for the Foxes to find happiness in than there is not. Sajnur will lick their wounds and doubtless return stronger on Thursday, but it is hard to imagine that Kevin Laing's team, like the hundred and forty thousand of their comrades willing them on, will not allow themselves at least a little satisfaction and celebration after what was ultimately a resounding victory at December Park.

PROFILE: JONATHAN IDDON

Particularly since independence, it has become almost an accepted law of cricketing nature that rural Bradford would produce a succession of farming leg-spinners, and Jonathan Iddon is in many ways the latest incarnation of that wellspring of natural talent, The Iddons, descended from refugees of the Highland Clearances of the 18th century, have farmed the valleys of western Bradford for generations, and since independence the surname has almost been stereotypical of the workers on the oat and wheat collectives from Silverdale, through Crossroads, and down to Hollowdale, that keep much of our country fed. Jonathan Peter Engels Iddon was born into this tradition, and grew up on the Hollowdale Agricultural Co-operative where he works to develop and grow weather-resistant strains of wheat. He has been playing cricket almost as long as he has been farming; his uncle Robin was a Harrison Cup and national representative wicketkeeper in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and it was Robin that got Jonathan started with the Engels Cricket Club age group teams at the turn of the millennium. Despite the hour's bus journey to practice and play on the outskirts of Foxdale, the younger Iddon structured his day around the sport and continues to do so in his adulthood.
Possessed of an analytical mind and deep knowledge of the effect of pitch conditions on his deliveries - and a wicked googly, delivered with an action just unorthodox enough to be notable - he has remained a stalwart of the Engels senior team and, until recently, a semi-regular member of the Bradford Harrison Cup side. He began to consistently hold down a position in that side in 2017, but it was not until Naomi Salisbury arrived from Sutton & Avalon at the start of 2019 that his performances began to attract wider attention; Iddon formed a strong partnership with the left-arm spinner almost immediately, often sharing the new ball on favourable tracks, and together they helped to propel Bradford to their first Harrison Cup title since 2012. It was Iddon's consistency during the season, taking 59 wickets at 32.39, that brought the topic of his possible Test selection up in Plough Islands Cricket Association circles, and it was felt that particularly on familiar ground his inclusion would be an asset against what has proved a tenacious Sajnuran top order.
A gentle, unimposing young man in person, Iddon has taken his recent rise in status in his stride; he holds a certificate in agricultural botany from the Plough Islands Technical College and is currently pursuing a degree in the field from the University of the Plough Islands by correspondence, something he admits may be put on hold if things continue to progress on the cricket field.

Pratapgadh Fell 15 Runs Short Against Lisander In First Test
Written by Saurav Mishra

Pratapgadh have started this series with a loss after playing a very tense first match against Lisander. Pratapgadh in their second fell just 15 runs short and were all out on 232. The heroes of this match were definitely the captain, Sanjay Gadia, and the youngster Darsheel Upadhyay who showed resistance and determination and pushed Pratapgadh to a respectable result when the openers threw their wickets early in the match. The bowlers had a rough time in this match as they conceded too many runs, every bowler conceded 5 runs per over in Lisander's first innings and and more than 4 in Lisander's second innings. Sanjay Gadia still believes that his side is good and there are some flaws in every team, says that the Pratapgadh bowlers will strike in the next match.

The game commenced on Day 1 with Lisander winning the toss and opted to bat. The first innings was very quick, scoring 253 in just two sessions! The Lisander side exploded in the first session scoring 169 for the loss of 5 wickets. The openers were dismissed early when Kakadia took the early wickets which had put Pratapgadh in a dominant, but not for long. Rahman 2 wickets from this session with Shahane contributing one wicket. The second session was the same but this time the batsmen went back to the pavilion early as they only played 16.4 overs into the second session. Kakadia took 2 early wickets, Rahman took 2 wickets, Shahane took 3 and Khatmode contributed by taking 1 wicket. Lisander ended their first innings quickly but with a huge score of 253. This also discouraged the bowlers a bit as they were smashed by the middle order. Pratapgadh started their innings with Rathore and Parte. They made a nice and comfortable opening partnership of 51 until Rathore was dismissed on 29 playing 37 deliveries. Rathore was much more aggressive, hitting 5 boundaries in a very short innings. Then came Upadhyay, the young fire-bird people like to call him, when in actuality he plays with patience. Upadhyay was aggressive (which is a bit new to me) as well hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes. Upadhyay supported Parte, which resulted in both of them scoring their fifties. The day ended with session ended with Pratapgadh scoring 178 and losing only two wickets. Bipin Parte was not out on 91 and played 135 balls, Farhang Gondalwala was not out on 1 and played 7 deliveries. After the game, Sanjay Gadia was interviewed by Rajeev Chauhan and he said "Our batsmen are doing a great job out their and we are now dominant in this match. The bowlers had a rough time as they conceded too many runs, but they deserve credit for finishing the first Lisander innings in just 46.4 overs. I have hope that the bowlers will strike in the second Lisander innings."

On Day 2, in the first session, Parte went on to make a brilliant century before he was dismissed on 101 and played 150 deliveries. The vice captain, Farhang Gondalwala, and the captain, Sanjay Gadia, made a brilliant partnership of 84 runs before Farhang Gondalwala got out on 54 playing his 78th delivery. Sanjay Gadia put on a great performance of 39 from 42. His batting had improved a lot from his last season, he was remembered for his leadership and smarts but now he has proved that he is dependable player in cricket. Sandha Ghalo was gone for 6 from 8, with Awasthi contributing some important runs and the lower order fell quickly. Pratapgadh innings ended with a total of 336. Lisander had to make a good total to reduce the gap between them and Pratapgadh. Lisander came out to bat for just 3 overs before lunch. The real game started in the second session when the openers were massacring the Pratapgadhi bowlers, and I when I say that, I mean it. The openers were aggressive and it looked like Gadia had no answer to these two batsmen. This was until Shahane ripped apart the top order quickly taking 3 wickets. By the end of the second session, Lisander had a total of 143 for 3, and looked like they would go on to make a total of 300. The third session went against Pratapgadh as well, as Lisander ended the day with a total of 253 for 5. In the third session, Lisander scored 110 and lost only 2 wickets. Though, if the lower order collapses, they might end with a total of just under 300.

This is Day 3, where the match ended. Lisander played 14.4 more overs and ended with a total of 330. Lisander made 77 runs from just 14.4 overs! This caused the critics to ridicule the Pratapgadh bowling attack as they were smashed by the lower order and put Pratapgadh in a tougher situation. Sanjay Gadia still had faith in his team and especially his bowlers, he said, "Days like these arrive and it is just part of the game, people seem to forget that Kakadia, Rahman and Shahane were the ones who had anhilated Eastfield Lodge back home. I request the fans to have faith in them." Though they conceded a lot of runs, Kakadia took 2 wickets, Rahman took 1, Khatmode contributed with 2 wicket and Shahane took an incredible 5 wicket-haul. Rathore and Parte came out to commence Pratapgadh's second innings in the first session, and played 15 overs before lunch. Pratapgadh top-order collapsed and were now 70 for 3. The second session was when the game was over for Pratapgadh as their were on a total of 226 for 9. Pratapgadh played 2.1 overs in the third session before going all-out on 232, short of 15 runs. Lisander won by 15 runs. Darhseel Upadhyay and Sanjay Gadia showed some resistance and fight, each of them scoring 67 off 99 and 63 off 80 respectively. However, the rest of batsmen fell short and couldn't make it, but Sanjay Gadia deserves some credit for being a good leader and a dependable player.

After the match ended, Sanjay Gadia gave a press conference "Congrats to Lisander for winning today, they deserved it. They had a good plan and executed correctly. My side has played well but fell just short of 15 runs and we won't let that affect us negatively. I still have a lot of faith in our bowlers, today was not their day. Things like this happen in cricket and that one day shouldn't decide a player's fate, he should be given another chance. They did their job well, getting the wickets, and today Shahane showed his brilliance by taking that 5 wicket-haul in tough conditions. He has a lot of resilience and is a reliable player, and he would be key in the next two games in this series. The collapse of the top-order in our second innings really put us in a lot of pressure and it was unexpected and that resulted in our downfall. I was worried if we would be able to reach the target, but Darsheel really helped us stretch the score. He played with patience even in intense conditions like and kept his cool and we both worked together to put Pratapgadh in a respectable position. Today I got to see his personality and determination, I expect a lot from him in the next few matches." A journalist from Pratapgadh stood up to ask a tough question, he asked "What do you think about the recent form of Pradip Khatmode? He is getting old and it looks like it is time for him to retire. What is your opinion?" For a minute Sanjay Gadia was thinking deep and then took a sip of water. He said "My opinion about him retiring doesn't matter. It is his decision after all. He is still playing well, and this just a short phase. He decides when he's done. We aren't experts who can decide if he is able to play or not." He takes a sip of water, gets up and leave.

I felt really when Pratapgadh lost the match as they were so close. However, this match was tense and fun to watch, lots of great shots and deliveries. At the end, it is about the passion of cricket we share together, so it doesn't if we win or not. It is the passion which makes us happy. Best of luck to Pratapgadh for their next match, and I hope they win. Our bowlers had a rough time in this match, but they will strike back and strike hard. See you folks next time! #BleedTheColoursOfPratapgadh

Gold Coast Cricket Park 2:00 PM
Craig Campbell the best Bowler in Northwest Kalactin was practicing in his hometown, Gold Coast with his best friend and cricket prodigy, Justin Griffin.
“I hope I make the team this year.” Said Justin
“Are you kidding me you’re going to make the team you are the future of cricket of Northwest Kalactin.” Claimed Craig
“Are you sure I’m only 19 you’re 24 I’m 5 years younger than you.”
“You’re going to be the greatest off break Bowler In Kalactanian history.”
“You’re a great off break bowler I’m not even sure if I’ll be better than you.”
That night the two guys went back to Craig’s family’s house because they were announcing the national team rosters, they had a party at his house that night before they announced the team rosters. “And the number 1 bowler for the Kalactanian team this year, Craig Campbell” everyone at the party started cheering once the commentator announced his name, including Justin who was still not sure if he would make the team. The next few minutes everyone sat in suspense waiting for Justin’s name to be called, a few minutes later the announcement came in and a phone rang in the room Craig’s mom answered it, an gave the phone to Justin. Three minutes later Justin was celebrating with Craig about both of them making the team and they got the news, the team was traveling to Ko-oren.

Preview of Ko-oren Match
The Kalactanian team will be traveling to Ko-oren for 2 matches on the 6th and 7th matchdays of the world cricket championship. Ko-oren looks like a strong team although they did lose to Darmen by 2 wickets. So far they are 1-1-1 with an average run rate of 11. The ground that the teams will be playing at are to be determined but it is assumed they will play at a smaller ground. 2 of their top players seem to be Stanley Longhorn and Everett White. Most of the players on the Ko-oren team are medium or fast bowlers unlike the Kalactanian bowlers who are majority off break bowlers. The match looks to be an exciting one as this will be the Kalactanians first match this season.

Man of the Series & Northwest Kalactin Preview

Another Friendship Trophy is in the books, the national team back from several weeks in Rushmore, and the next series is already at the door. It all started so nicely, with a resounding victory on Darmeni soil, but it broke down fast. Disregarding the fourth test, which we'll regard as a complete exception in every part of the game, the team showed all kinds of play. There were innings that did not seemed to end. There were innings that were over too quickly. Altogther, on the batting side, there were very few instances where the team collectively lost it and threw away wickets. On the bowling side, there is plenty to get excited about, the decent mix of pace and spin working well together. Marsden has been tremendous, as always, in deciding who should share the bulk of the innings. If pace works, let Fox, Marsden and Courtenay do their thing. If spin works, give Darknoll and Lincoln do their thing. We've also seen all batsmen have at least one good innings.

On to the man of the series. In the first Test, Twaddle and Stanway led the way towards a huge innings, but honestly without going to extremely lengths. The entire team did its part, and especially the tail end provided far more runs than we expect from the unit. Lincoln managed 21, Fox had 23, and Marsden even had 26. The pattern repeated itself for the second innings, where nobody broke 50 but the innings total still was 265, courtesy of Lincoln, Fox, and Marsden all again reaching 20 runs. When Darmen was batting, there were no standout performances from the bowlers. Lincoln was fine in the economy department, Marsden took more wickets than anyone, but that's as far as it gets. From this match, we can't see a clear candidate - even if this was the only match we won. Still, Marsden's wicket figures combined with a rare 20+ run streak can't be ignored.

The second match was one where wickets were extremely hard to come by. Fox took four wickets, from Brice, Ready, Droit, and Kaufman - so he took all four wickets where you expect good batting to come from - but it took him 34 overs. Still, in both wickets and economy, he was better than average. Compare that to Courtenay, giving up 112 runs in 25 overs and only taking a single wicket, namely Myers', which ended the innings... but it's also the 11th man on the list. Anyhow, from this match you expect to find some really insane batting figures: Twaddle, reaching 224 runs on 491 balls. Say what you want about the strike rate, a double ton is out of this world. Apart from Twaddle's poor showing in the second innings of the first match, Twaddle is an early candidate for Man of the Series for sure. Don't forget Wheelwright, scoring a century as well.

The third test rolls around and Ko-oren has everything to play for. A win here would give us the series. Unfortunately, in a very close match, the Darmeni did exactly enough and won the match. In a 170-run innings, only yChaegrheodd stood out with 69 runs. If it weren't for him, it's easy to see the entire team slip to barely 100 - with White and Stanway going down for under 6 runs each. Darmen obviously had trouble on this pitch as well, and Fox took full advantage: four wickets, including Darmen's best Ready, great economy, and he did well in the first innings as well as the second. In the batting, Stanway redeemed himself with 79 runs. Fox is easily the best here.

Don't tell me that it then comes to the fourth test to decide on the Man of the Series. Darmen go first, declare the innings at 450. This had all the ingredients of the second match: no wickets to come by, a draw after five days, before the fourth innings has even started. But here we see a new possibility: Ko-oren slide to 149, kicking and screaming, in under 30 overs, with only Stanway and yChaegrheodd scoring over 20 runs. The slide started early with Langhorne out for a duck on the fifth ball of the innings. The aforementioned batsmen stopped the downward spiral for a short while, but then it came back in full force as Wheelwright and Darknoll could not guide the tail-end into a decent score, both dismissed for under 10 runs. The bowlers, so reliable in those first matches, scored two ducks, two 5s, and only Fox wanted to prove something: he scored 15, among the best of the team. With such a short innings, of course we were forced into a follow-on, which went a little better. It was far from enough, and as Darmen's innings took a full day and a half to complete, the match didn't go on past the first session of day three. A day and a half for 6 Darmeni wickets... two and a half sessions for 20 Ko-orenite wickets. What's worse, that's a second loss and that's the Trophy gone. Seriously, we cannot decide on a Man of the Series taking into account this match. At all.

All in all, we've decided to share the Man of the Series trophy between Fox and Twaddle. Fox for his reliable performances, and Twaddle for his reliability for most of the series and obviously that insane 224.

Then, on to Northwest Kalactin. It's only their first Test of the season. They have named 11 players to travel to the Dragonfly Archipelago. This includes Joseph Gonzalez, wicketkeeper who bats at third, several ambidextrous members that we have too little experience against, so in all facets these will be two matches in which any assumption is dangerous. Don't expect someone who bats left to bowl left as well. As we look deeper into the lineup, the tail-end consists of equal spin and 'pace', with only medium to medium-fast bowlers mentioned at the end. Fast bowling is found in the squad, which will have to come from Green and Adams, both batting early in the lineup. We will have to see if they can still deliver top speeds after having batted a deep innings.

For these two matches, Ko-oren will appear with a slightly changed batting order:
Twaddle
Igglesden
White
Stanway
yChaegrheodd
Whitley
Wheelwright (WK)
Raycraft
Lincoln
Fox
Marsden (C)

To go for a deeper batting lineup with two openers, three full-time batsmen, and one all-rounder, and don't underestimate Wheelwright either. For bowling, we have Marsden, Fox, and Whitley for pace, and Lincoln and Raycraft for spin. Safe to say, we expect to win these matches on batting and pace bowling. This to balance out Northwest Kalactin's focus on spin.

For venues, the first match will be played in Goledon Oval, Bruncester. The second will played just a few dozen kilometres away, in Cirelbourne's Silverion Ground. The national team has a minimal record in these venues, this being the first time Bruncester hosts any Test. Cirelbourne was on the menu once before, in an ultimately drawn match. We're not expecting too much in terms of crazy statistics: batting is certainly pretty easy in both venues, but totals of 450+ should be very hard to come by, at the same time.

Apologies for the slightly truncated RP - work has been very busy with the current pandemic situation and I'm struggling a little for inspiration at the moment. The best of luck to Sajnur going into the last Test, you really didn't deserve this result :(

Image

on the 20th March 2020, the Plough Islands Gazette wrote:
UNEXPECTED SYNCHRONICITY IN WORLDWIDE TEST RESULTS
by Ian Goswell, Chief Cricket Correspondent for Plough Radio, in Foxdale

In the context of multiversal Test cricket, the 19th of March, 2020, was a remarkable day for several reasons. Here in Foxdale it will be remembered, not least by this author, as the day on which the Plough Islands completed a comprehensive victory in the second Test against Sajnur; with Kevin Laing having opted to bat in Foxdale, and despite Karim Haton's best efforts - the Sajnuran slow left-armer bearing the brunt of the Plough Islander assault and ultimately taking six wickets and a hat-trick, albeit at a cost of over a hundred runs - the Foxes had succeeded in building a formidable first-innings total.
An unbeaten century by Alec Fedorov, almost a second from Graeme Holt, and valuable contributions by Laing (73), Audrey Leggett (57), and Ilya Lebed (49) saw them reach 460 all out, before an excellent bowling performance by debutant Jonathan Iddon (5-33)helped to skittle Sajnur for 182. Laing enforced the follow-on, and though Gabriela Fiume and Tomas Piqa rallied the tourists with a 61 partnership after losing two quick wickets, the loss of Piqa to a deceptively straight delivery by Sarah Ashe sent Sajnur into a tailspin from which it became increasingly obvious, with Naomi Salisbury continuing to peg back any signs of progress, they were not going to recover.
But as Nikolas Burovin was prodding the ball straight into the path of Salisbury's follow-through, giving the left-arm spinner her fifth wicket of the innings and sealing the Foxes' victory, across the oceans - at the Capital Stadium in Darmen - Menashe Wakefield beat Ko-orenite captain Herschel Marsden's bat to sent his off stump cartwheeling, completing his own five-wicket haul and a victory of a similar order of magnitude. Darmeni captain Sigmund Winter, like Laing, had also opted to bat first, accumulated a score of over 450, enforced the follow-on after a clinical bowling display, and won by an innings and 110 runs.
In fact, all four Global Cricket Federation sanctioned Test matches scheduled for yesterday followed almost the same template, save for Pratapgadh being put in to bat by Lisander; it made little difference as they scored just 84 in less than two hours and ultimately lost by an innings and 115 runs. The Affiliate member Test in Damukuni only differed in magnitude; the Busoga Islanders scored over 200 in both innings and came within 27 runs of making Damukuni bat again, but still ultimately fell to an innings defeat. The Plough Islands Cricket Association confirmed they had never recorded this many simultaneous results happening at first-class level previously in the history of domestic or international cricket, and when contacted by this author, a spokesman for the Global Cricket Federation in Liventia confirmed they believed this to be the case too; "we might have had it occur with only one or two matches, but not with four off the top of my head". Leggett was more succinct about the results as they came in; the Foxes all-rounder believing just that "...something must be in the water, the world over".
Back in at the Foxdale Sports Club, though, there was at most a muted bewilderment as every one of the - justifiably proud - players, and those watching them, will have been doing their best to not let their early season form cloud their minds ahead of the last game of the series at Southport. As Haton has shown, Sajnur are still a dangerous team capable of changing the course of a match in a short amount of time, and they will be fighting for their dignity and the hopes of millions watching far away. And as this quite remarkable day of international cricket has shown, almost nothing can ever be so unbelievable that it cannot happen.

Postby Northwest Kalactin » Fri Mar 27, 2020 3:16 pm

It was a rainy day in Gold Coast, Northwest Kalactin and roommates Craig Campbell and Justin Griffin, who were both on the Gold Coast Cricket Club went going to work out. They pulled their Grey Kalactanian Motors car into the parking lot of the practice facility and then went inside to work out. They showed their identification to the attendant there and went into the weight room. The weight room was a small run-down room near the bowling practice area. Even though the club was in the biggest city in Kalactin and had some success they didn’t have much money just like all the other major cricket clubs in Northwest Kalactin. Both Justin and Craig got good salaries they decided to rent a small house together just because they knew if the club ran into financial troubles they would be the first ones to get traded. The conditioning coach of the Gold Coast Cricket Club, Joseph Vaughn started them up on the weights and the other strength machines. Justin went over to practice bowling more, while Craig continued to focus on building up arm strength. After they were done working out they decided to go for a run later that day. They both settled into chairs around the TV and started watching international cricket Darmen Vs. Eastfield Lodge. “Wait what game are we watching” said Craig. “Well the best one on right now is Darmen Vs. Eastfield Lodge although there is also Sanjur Vs. the Plough Islands if we want to watch that one”
“Nah I’m fine with this one, do you want something to drink”
“I’ll just go for Water”
“Suddenly the phone rang”
“Hello is this Justin Griffin of Gold Coast Cricket Club” said the voice on the phone
“Uhh he is not here right now but I’ll go get him for you”
“Hey Justin, there is a call for you on the phone”
“Ok I’ll be right there”
“Hello this is Justin Griffin how can I help you?”
“Justin you are going to be traded”
“What! To where”
“Murwelldobah you’re being exchanged for and all rounder and cash”
Justin was speechless he had no idea why the Cricket Club had traded him.
“Justin, what happened” yelled Craig
“I was traded to Murwelldobah”
“What! why?”
“I think the club might be running out of money.”
Craig and Justin both sat there until a taxicab came the cab driver asked for Justin Griffin he said he would be transferring Justin to his new apartment in Murwelldobah. Justin hopped up in the cab and said goodbye to Craig...

Just posting this for housekeeping purposes - many congratulations to Sajnur on a thrilling and deserved win. Unfortunately with all that's going on the RPing muse has left me somewhat, and I'm hoping I can entice them back before the upcoming Ko-orenite series...

If anyone else is missing the cricket as much as I am, this video is as good a place as any to start (in my humble opinion of course), although with far better and more outlandish production than Plough TV would ever manage, heh...
The best of luck to Ko-oren and everyone else - hopefully we can get some good RP out of being stuck indoors!

on the 28th March 2020, the Plough Islands Gazette wrote:
PLOUGH ISLANDS SEEK RESPITE AND SUCCESS AGAINST OLD FRIENDS
by Andrew Kulayev, Cricket Correspondent for Plough Radio, in Foxdale

Despite suffering a tenth-wicket upset last week in Southport, the Plough Islands, particularly in the person of captain Kevin Laing, have generally had little cause for concern with how their 2020 season has started. A strong performance in the national stadium in first Test of the sixtieth anniversary of our country's independence, with New Dalmatian Colin McCarthy bowling the Foxes to a nine wicket victory, was followed up by the innings win in Foxdale which saw leg-spinner Jonathan Iddon perform exceptionally well, taking a five-for on his international debut. The winter break has generally been kind to most players in the squd, and especially to Laing; the captain enjoyed an almost improbable average of 76.00 in just four innings. All of this makes his visible concern when meeting this author at the Foxdale Sports Club perhaps a little puzzling to the casual observer.
The main headache facing Laing - after he allows himself a minute to voice his regret at his bowling tactics in the fourth innings of the last Test, which saw a Sajnuran effort of Stakhanovite proportions chase down a target of 354 with one wicket remaining - is at the top of the order, with the erstwhile Matthew Davy still unavailable and new arrival Colin Williams still struggling to find his feet in international cricket. "He was unlucky in the last Test - you cannot exactly plan for deflections like that,", Laing observes, "but one almost fifty in five innings is...it would be lying to say I do not worry at all about him, but myself and Colin both know it is not representative of what he can do, and hopefully the pieces can fall into place soon". While opening partner Graeme Holt and Shauna Weaver have been shouldering much of the labour in the top order, this is unlikely to be sustainable unless Williams can find some form.
There is a general feeling within the Plough Islands Cricket Association that a change of scenery may help; Laing, along with head coach Lourens Hendricks, are targeting the upcoming tour of Ko-oren as an opportunity to relax. Laing explains that "we have always enjoyed such a warm welcome when we travel there, our two teams have played each other so often over recent seasons that you start to break down the barriers that exist competitively a little. That brings its own challenges when you are inside the rope, but outside it, it can feel more like Foxdale Sports against Highland Co-operative in the Bradford league than a Test match, which feels more enjoyable to participate in in many ways". Hendricks, alternatively, sums it up as "during the ODI series last year, I had to go and ask Illres [yChaegrheodd], who was twelfth man, if he could ask the question about having an extra drinks break. And, ag, we somehow got from that on to rock climbing and holidays and then Arthur [Donovan] and Tim [Bleasdale] were all up in my face asking where the water was..."
Hendricks has already indicated that the travelling party to Ko-oren will be fairly small; Williams is likely to keep his place at the top of the order at least immediately, although the Plough Islands Cricket Association has been sounding out Andrew Barrett of Redcliff and Daryl Westbrook of Swift as potential further candidates should the New Hibernian continue to struggle for runs. Bleasdale - "if I'm being honest, just because the oke keeps us all in stitches", according to Hendricks, although he is at pains to clarify the Swift wicket-keeper is a ready-made replacement for several positions in the batting order - and Sutton & Avalon medium pacer David Heath, who took two wickets at December Park but may prove more effective on the harder pitches at Willowbourne, will make the trip as backup to the XI that played in Southport.
They will meet a Ko-orenite side in the ascendancy - Herschel Marsden's team have played good, attacking cricket thus far in 2020, with paceman Zacharias Fox partnering his captain well with the new ball and helping to power his team to a series whitewash against an inconsistent Northwest Kalactin. Despite the friendship and comradely respect between the two nations, who are fellow travellers in many ways, the battle at the crease will be a fiercely contested one - the Foxes have only ever won once against their hosts on the Halcyon Archipelago, albeit a spectacular innings win in Llandy in 2018. Laing summarises the challenge ahead as "a good opportunity to relax, to enjoy the scenery, to strengthen our bonds and those with the people that will follow us, but ultmately to keep developing as a unit by facing a very tough challenge...and a challenge we certainly want to rise to and, pulling together as Plough Islanders, win"
With that, Laing returns to the nets; with the flight to Willowbourne leaving from Echodale in the next few days, there is much for him to go through with his team of Foxes. Their progress in Ko-oren will no doubt be followed eagerly by thousands of their comrades back home, and elsewhere; myself and Ian Goswell will be among that number, live on Plough Radio from 8:00am, Ansonville time, on the 7th April for what will surely be a thrilling Test.

Jeckland returns to international sport

Jeckland will tomorrow make their return to international sport after years in the wilderness with the first of a three Test Match Series against Eastfield Lodge. The Spuds will have a nation watching eagerly over the coming five days, with the weather set to be glorious throughout. Whilst they go into the series as underdogs with Eastfield Lodge a current full member of the GCF, they will be buoyed by the fact their opponents are the only full member yet to register a win in the current GCF cycle. Jeckland Chief Selector Tex Snelling announced the team for the first Test Match today, which is as follows:

Jeckland Team for 1st Test vs. Eastfield Lodge

1. Norris Cannon - LHB, 23 - The 6ft5 opener will look to get on top of opposition bowlers from the off with the ability to play some explosive innings, but a tendency to lose his wicket rashly.

2. Cleve Nichols - RHB, 31 - A dogged opener. Not the most talented member of the team but rarely gives his wicket away easily and plays the moving ball well

3. Alvin North - RHB, OS, 27 - A shrewd player who specialises in rotating strike and accumulating runs. Bowls some part time off spin.

4. Campbell Knowles - RHB, Captain, 28 - Loves to attack spinners but can struggle against express pace. An innovative captain who is heralded for his ability to create chances with unorthodox field placements

5. Barrett Butts - LHB, 32 - Famed for his unconventional stance, Butts is a controversial pick given some poor recent form with the bat.

6. Ezra Mitchell - RHB, LFM, 26 - An aggressor with both bat and ball, Mitchell can turn a game on its head or go completely missing from it.

7. Lorin Ruskin - RHB, WK, 24 - An excellent glovesman, particularly with spinners, but his batting is below what you'd expect from a Test No. 7

8. Bradyen Mathews - RHB, RFM, 32 - A line and length bowler who can often get a lot out of an old ball. A handy partner with the bat for those higher up the order.

9. Lucian Small - RHB, OS, 25 - The frontline spinner can bowl a handy doosra and rarely misses his line and length.

10. Adair Knight - LHB, LF, 22 - This exciting young talent can bowl express pace with frightening accuracy, Usually bowls the first over.

11. Ariel Alvin - LHB, RFM, 30 - Comically bad at batting, Alvin makes up for it with his mastery of swing bowling opening with Knight.

The three grounds selected to host this landmark series are Harkenbury, Byton Cricket Ground and The Circle in this order. Harkenbury has a 40,000 capacity. Located along the Hitchkin River in the south of Rack City, this ground has a large outfield which is lightning quick and offers something for both bat and ball (Ground Modifier: 0). The series will then move to the very north of the country and Byton Cricket Ground. Seating 22,000 people, this ground usually has pitches that help the seamers take wickets (Ground Modifier: -2). The series will then conclude in Lingham at The Circle, named for its unusually round shape. The 30,000 seater stadium has short boundaries which benefit the batsmen (Ground Modifier: +3)
Winners: N/A
Runners Up: WBC 30 & 31, Memorial Cup
Semi Final: CE 26, WBC 35, WLC 20
