“Welcome back to the studio where we’re rounding up the action from this Sunday afternoon in the Kelssek Football League. We start where we left off at Maillardville Park as Coquitlam United ran off 3-0 winners against Latrobe. Coquitlam’s manager Obey Chidibere was certainly in a jubilant mood with some nice combinations of Luo Dan and Pierre-Louis Laishram for the first goal and then the Elizabeth Blanc show as the striker from Savigliane bagged a brace and probably should have had a hat-trick too. A lot of the attention is on the other bench however, and after a result like this how much rope does Warner Dranz have, and is he going to get strung up with it? How much of an excuse is an injury crisis when Latrobe are on a losing run this bad?”
MATT LISTER | Former Kelssek international: “It seems to me there’s the start of a divide in the fanbase where some people want him out but there’s a lot of fans who look at what he’s achieved in Latrobe and want to back him to the hilt. It’d be really unfortunate, what you don’t want to see is the kind of Kirkenes situation they had where the debate around Natalia Rossi got really internally toxic and kind of was a self-fulfilling disaster situation. If they are, in their heart of hearts, going to back him then they really have to back him, no half measures out here.”
TALIA SHEPPERD: “I think it was really interesting that on the other side of town yesterday, at Burnaby SC, you had the players going out of their way to praise the manager for what was a pretty textbook win, in normal circumstances. I don’t think we saw that during the whole Kirkenes saga, probably has to do with different club cultures, because Natalia Rossi, too, could say she’d taken that club to a level they’d never been... Obviously it’s not the players who can or should decide who the coach is, but if he still has the dressing room like Seth Harrison clearly does, it’d count very strongly in his favour.”

Former Kelssek captain Ruslan Demetriev has been unveiled as the new FC Novonaya manager and will take charge of next week’s league match against Mazinaw Vanorian. In words that are sure to inspire the fanbase, the club’s executive board said that retaining Championship status “is vital for the club’s business model”. Sunday’s 3-1 loss to Hamiltonian Cambria leaves Novonaya one place above the relegation zone – on goal difference.

“This is absolutely incredible! Shearwater has pulled it back! And the crowd are going insane! Can you believe this amazing comeback! Xena Allste has tied it up on aggregate!”
PATRICE LANGELIER, NSN: “...this own goal is a killer. They came into this match with a great position, thrown it all away with just 15 minutes of hideous disarray. Outineau were getting results in the league with poor performances, but a team at this level they can’t get away with that. They have to reset and get their heads straight because this is getting to the time of year when the pressure is on, this is when the teams that cope with that the best separate from the pack and come out on top...”
“...and that’s a cruel way to end this match. After witnessing a big comeback in the aggregate scoreline the dream ends in a nightmare. It’s La Nueva Avenida who go through on penalties as Manda Iara had to score and hit the post.”
OLAF JURTANEN | Manager, Shearwater
“We have a lot still to fight for. (long pause) I think it’s very tight in the league and we’re not where we want to be. There, we can be better. We are still in the Patriotes Cup and this is a trophy the club has never won. The players are always playing to stay in the team. So they have to fight for that.”

“The War of the Crowns is the headline match of this week as Kirkenes look to keep the heat on the league leaders. They’ve closed the gap to one point and they need to keep the pressure on Strathcona, who’ve been top of the table since matchweek 5. Outineau meanwhile are fighting to stay in the hunt for Champions League football, and come into this match at Waterfront Dome off a frustrating and bruising encounter against St-Rémy last week...”
“They’ve handled going a goal down really well, Outineau. Easy to let the crowd get in your head in a match like this. This is just the response they deserve.”
“...and they’re checking to see, does Seanclair come off the line before the ball is kicked?... Wow. That’s close. It’s going to count I reckon because if it’s not conclusive, the call on the field was a good goal.”

This is a match that will be spoken of in legends among the football fans of southwestern Outineau... and it could be a vital three points in the relegation battle...”
“It’s a big result too with huge significance at the top of the table because it denies the Centurions a chance to go first. Everyone at Burnaby surely saw this match as something to cap off their revival in the second half of the season... All that anticipation after Strathcona lost against Shearwater, instead, they hold on to the lead in the title race by one point. And it is tight with three points between first and fifth. “Referee’s still trying to get the Strathcona players out of the penalty area. It’s been looked at, VAR’s happy, nothing more to be argued. Although I’m sure we’ll still be chewing on that decision after this one’s done.”
“You can understand with... it wasn’t a clear cut penalty, you know, and the situation, and just the tight race for the championship. But the decision’s been made and they have to live with that.”
“But now Ego Giles has the chance to grab a point for Outineau, and deny two to Strathcona.”
“They’re watching closely in Kirkenes, I can tell you that. Big match for them tomorrow, too.”

“Timothy Sapping with the finishing touch, and you have to think this will be Burnaby’s match with just over 20 minutes to go... “And there you see it! As it stands, Kirkenes are the league leaders... What a massive goal from van der Ven!”
“What an intelligent run it was by Nurullah Arslan. Ren Fang’s left for dead and the only chance he’s got is to take Arslan down. “Highlights and analysis coming up as we wrap up our coverage. We start of course with the implications for the title race. With Strathcona’s win today that opens up a two-point gap with two matches to go. Strathcona are at home in the Conryia debry next week followed by a tough final matchday away to Langlois Océanic. Kirkenes are home to Latrobe and then away to Association Ariddienne, who are already relegated, on the final day. On paper, you have to think Strathcona is the likelier to drop points? Or is this the crucial slip?”
“The important point is that it is all in Strathcona’s hands from this point on. If they win their last two, they are champions. Simple as that. But yeah, that really makes the derby even more interesting doesn’t it?”
AROUND THE GROUNDS: Burnaby were lucky to draw against Hamiltonian Cambria, as Olaf Haabjörn stuck it in from a corner to cancel out Anke Waechter’s early goal. With Saint-Rémy in third also dropping points this week, the Champions League spots are very much up for grabs, and Océanic, Outineau, and Burnaby all have plenty of momentum as the league season enters its final fortnight.

STRATHCONA (ALMOST) WINS THE KFL CHAMPIONSHIP!
Fans at Bowreach celebrated a thumping win for Strathcona against their regional rivals in a result that effectively gives the club its second league title. Preston Treadwell was an irresistable force as Mazinaw suffered something of a collapse of will at the hour mark, allowing the Dagan to register a hat trick in the space of 19 minutes. That means something truly catastrophic would have to happen next week for Saint-Rémy to be awarded the trophy instead, which is still mathematically possible if Strathcona were to lose and Saint-Rémy win by a combined margin of 17 goals.
A similar story can be found at the bottom of the table where a thrilling back-and-forth match at Admiralty Terrace left the Saintsport players and fans in tears. Here the goal difference to be made up is an even unlikelier 19 goals. It also denied fans what could have been the pick of the fixtures as Saintsport are due to face FC Novonaya next week – had Saintsport won this one it’d have set up a loser-gets-relegated thriller. There’s still an edge to that match because Novonaya aren’t safe yet, and Ruslan Demetriev’s side will need to match or better Union Lachîne’s result to stay up.

CSSR can take something from their surprise title tilt by reaching the Champions League for the first time since they actually won the league ten years ago. Kirkenes, Océanic and Burnaby all have a chance to take their place if they win and the others slip up...
FULL TIME - TOR 1-0 BUR – An insipid end to the Seth Harrison era, a painful defeat that leaves them out of the IFCF spots. But that’s ultimately not what they’ll remember him for at Stadium Konueira.
CLA 0-2 LAC - Union Lachaîne wins 2-0 but that is the end of their Championship journey! A big victory against Clayquot that in other circumstances would be reason to cheer. Novonaya just aren’t going to concede five in the next 60 seconds, so it’s back to the National division for l’Union.
AAR 0-1 KIR - Full time at PEPSUO and Kirkenes takes all three points! Could and should have scored more but the victory’s what matters today. But with Langlois leading and two more minutes of injury time left over there, Kirkenes will finish fourth. Still, a credit to Daniel Archer and a stepping stone to bigger things, they’ll hope.
OCE 2-1 STR - Hollis-Park sends Hartpoach racing through the lines but he’s stopped with a brilliant tackle by Timo Thomsen!
HAM 1-1 COQ – Cambria just didn’t have that bit of luck today. Ryan Potter had them dreaming in the early part of the season but this team just couldn’t keep that consistency down the final stretch.
SHE 1-3 OUT – Food for thought as these two teams look forward to their rematch to decide the Patriotes Cup next week. Outineau were out to ensure a Challengers Cup spot and hit hard early, Shearwater didn’t have much to play for here and it showed.
PAS 0-2 CSR – Florian Berkut with the brace as St-Rémy simply had too much quality for Passerine to cope with. They confirm their place in the Champions League next season.

21ST COUPE DES PATRIOTES FINAL
Waterfront Dome, Kirkenes – attendance 67,553
Outineau got the better of the league matchup one week ago, but the predictive value of that has got to be tempered by the fact that the fixture meant a lot more to Outineau than Shearwater. The Breton club’s downturn this year wasn’t totally unexpected, although to have been out of even Challengers Cup contention and plodding around in mid-table was probably a bit more than you’d expect out of a club that had won both the league and world championships the year before. The Rouge-et-bleu are this tournament’s most successful club and on their league form are favourites to lift a sixth Patriotes Cup. Shearwater’s inconsistency hides some real quality, however, and they go into this final determined to finish an indifferent season on a high – winning this trophy would drastically change the narrative of this year. They’ve never won the national cup.
Kickoff The starting lineups – Outineau (3-5-2): Rhys le Besco, Afrim Degirmen, Jean-Phillippe Auiloquet, Joris Elzokari, Tobert Usher, Molly Taylor, János rue Belois, Drystan Tudor, Götz Makatsch, Ego Giles, Radomir Primakov
Vanda Gerô is on the bench and that’s the only change from last week, the Pasargan striker having apparently tweaked something last time out.
Shearwater (4-3-2-1): Cathal Gallagher, Tzevaada Muur, Tara Kriedel, Nikolai Seabury, Russell McDougal, Eamon Breault, Rémond Leste, Aaron Lyybeck, Xena Allste, Manda Iara, Brion Steinno
Rémond Leste and Eamon Breault, apparently kept in reserve for the bigger match, start instead of Cory Grossman and Coalan O’Reilly.
6 min: Already a yellow card as Outineau’s Drystan Tudor clatters Xena Allste. The Chromatik winger had a clear path to goal and after a bit of probing that was the first real chance.
11 min: A big chance missed for Shearwater. Xena Allste was in a great position but scuffed her shot at the vital moment. Outineau have started poorly and are being overrun in midfield.
18 min: GOAL! Shearwater takes the lead! Brion Steinno will claim that, but the wicked deflection it took off Torbert Usher is probably going to have it count as an own goal. A deserved reward for their early pressure.
22 min: Outineau have responded well to going behind and nearly get an equalizer as Radomir Primakov evades the backline but fires his shot straight at Cathal Gallagher. TV cameras immediately find Vanda Gerô on the Outineau bench, who is surely thinking “I’d have put that one away”.
36 min: Injury issues for Shearwater. Rémond Leste has been hobbling around for the last five minutes and is now being substituted for Coalan O’Reilly.
40 min: GOAL! 2-0 to Shearwater. No doubt it’s Brion Steinno’s goal this time as the veteran chests down an absolute missile of a pass out the back from Tara Kriedel and howitzers it in from 25 yards!
43 min: The goal stands after lengthy VAR check for offside. Apparently Molly Taylor on the other side of the pitch had played Steinno on, but Auiloquet must be culpable for losing track of Steinno.
Half time: Shearwater are cruising with a 2-0 lead!
48 min: Outineau got into the box from the restart and immediately are demanding a penalty when János rue Belois is floored by Tara Kriedel. But the referee and VAR says no.
52 min: Radomir Primakov was evidently given some kind of ultimatum that he’s failed to meet and Romain Dupuis subs him out for Vanda Gerô.
59 min: Shearwater subs: Kai Fukushima on for Xena Allste, Peter Marsh for Aaron Lyybeck
62 min: Ashley Douglass on for Outineau along with Mint Leaf, Afrim Degirmen and Torbert Usher off. They have had a better second half and now a bit of caution to the wind.
70 min: Douglass rattles the crossbar with a free kick! Outineau are trying to outflank Shearwater and it’s been paying off.
76 min: GOAL! Outineau pulls one back with a lovely team move! This will make the last quarter hour really interesting. They knock it around on the left flank, Ego Giles sends a great switch of play over to the right wing, rue Belois one-times a cross for Götz Makatsch who zips into the box and applies the finish. More of that please!
79 min: Outineau are appealing for a handball in the box after Ashley Douglass’s cross was blocked at point blank range! Not given, it’d have been a real long shot.
81 min: Brion Steinno gets a massive reception from the Shearwater support as he’s taken off for Timurdogan Yerli. They’re adopting a more defensive shape to protect the lead.
86 min: Outineau are down to ten as Drystan Tudor is sent off! He picks up a second yellow card for flinging himself at Yerli to stop him cutting inside.
89 min: Tatjana Pistor on for Manda Iara, Shane Reilly for Tzevaada Muur. Shearwater really just eating time with their final change.
90+2 min: Two more minutes of added time will be had and you can’t see Shearwater letting this slip. They’ve put in a very professional bolt-the-doors performance to see this one out.
FULL TIME! Final: CF Outineau 1–2 Shearwater. It’s a deserved win that signals they are no spent force despite the rumours and their poor form in the league.

- Stalemate at the top. Strathcona wins, Kirkenes wins. Strathcona with a goal difference of 34, Kirkenes at 31. St-Remy also wins to sit one point back but they’re not going to come out on top on any tiebreakers here.
- Association Ariddienne have been relegated to KFL National. A team with lots of raw talent, but emphasis on the raw – they just haven’t been able to put out that extra cutting edge this time around. They return to the second division a year after winning it.
- A veteran performance from Kysheon Nagy and a well-placed strike by Puxjodaskar Lohánares gave Oceanic a crucial win and dealt Burnaby a vital defeat. It’s a cutthroat race to the finish as the IFCF spots are up for grabs. All the top six are likely to make it at this point, but who goes where is still much to be decided.
