The IAC. The IBC. The World Bowl. The World Cup. Drawkland has hosted it all ... everything except the revered World Baseball Classic.

You know what? It's about time. The massive continental nation of Drawkland, housing billions of people across whirling metropolises and quiet countryside, is no stranger to hosting the greatest events in the multiverse, sporting and otherwise. The Drawkian International Sporting Council (DISC) is proud to present the nation's bid for WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 48.

FORMAT

Much to the disappointment of every fan from the Free Republics, we've decided to go with a pretty cut-and-dry format for this bid. We'll be going with a standard X groups of X format, with top nations qualifying for a series-based playoff tournament. We're currently at 42 signups, which is an easily workable number, and reasonably expandable.

Group Formats:
42 nations: 6 groups of 7 - 16 qualify (top 2 in groups, 4 wild cards)
48 nations: 8 groups of 6 - 16 qualify (top 2 in groups)
50 nations: 10 groups of 5 - 20 qualify (top 2 in groups)
56 nations: 8 groups of 7 - 20 qualify (top 2 in groups, 4 wild cards)

I doubt we'll be exceeding 48 signups, much less 56, but I'll be able to find a workable format over 56 if it's necessary. Every team will be playing a three-game series home and three-game series away with each group opponent (double round-robin). There will not be reseeding between rounds. For 16 qualifiers, the playoff bracket will be standard. For 20 qualifiers, there will be a round of 20. A round of 20, if applicable, will be best 2 of 3. Round of 16 up to the 3rd Place Series will all be best 3 of 5. The championship series will be best 4 of 7.

For playoff seeding, the 1st place nations from each group will be seeded among each other for the top 6/8/10 slots, then 2nd seed nations (plus wild cards, if applicable) will be sorted into the remaining seeds. This is to incentivize winning a group as opposed to just making it through in second place.

SCORINATION

I will be using the standard build of xkoranate 0.3.3 for this World Baseball Classic. The NSFS3 formula will be used, so that linescores will be generated (of course). As aforementioned, the group stage will function as a double round-robin, just with three game series instead of single games. I will accomplish this by running three concurrent double round-robins, and using the Table Generator function in xkoranate in order to compile the correct group tables. I know this would probably be easier done with Baseinator, but I'm not familiar with the program yet and would rather not be learning a program while hosting an event with it.

Each cutoff in the group stage will yield 3 game results from the ensuing series. In the playoffs, two series games will be scorinated per cutoff, except for rubber matches (obviously). Game 5 onwards in the championship series, if needed, will be scored one per cutoff instead.

RP Bonus will be cumulative throughout the group stage. 23% of the cumulative group stage bonus (excluding roster and rank bonus) will degrade as the playoffs begin. Quality will be awarded over quantity, as is the case with like every tournament for the last decade. All styles and types of RPs will be welcome, of course. True effort will always be rewarded.

EXPERIENCE

Drawkland has played host to the multiverse's most respected events. The hosting fare of the nation began in World Bowl XXIX with Frenline Delpha, and continued with IBC 21 alongside the Royal Kingdom of Quebec. Several International Cups of 7ball have been wholly or partially hosted by Drawkland, and multiple NSCF/NSCAA Conferences are headquarted in the nation. Drawkland has also hosted IAC-7, BoF 65 (with Spawk), CoH 70 (with Eshan), and World Cup 79 (with Ceni).

Once again, Drawkland has never hosted a World Baseball Classic before, and is looking to change that now. As you can see, we are more than eager and competent enough to handle this job.

CLOSING

In closing, we'd like to thank the World Baseball Classic community for considering our bid. We hope we can get a solid tournament under our belt as we approach the mighty 50th edition on the horizon. If anybody brings a bid against us, we wish you luck in the voting.

With the bid from Drawkland, I can now confirm that the deadline for host bids will be at midnight Eastern Time on Sunday March 9th, 2020 (i.e. the start of Sunday, not the start of Saturday) as I have decreed that the official clock of the World Baseball Classic will "spring forward" to Daylight Stupid Time a few hours earlier than official US clocks which means that it will immediately be 1 AM on the WBC's clock as soon as it strikes midnight. :p

I'm a bit late due to getting caught up in a chat on Discord but host bidding is now closed. Members of the WBC Council that are not bidding (listed here) may vote for any of the following options:

1) Accept the bid from Drawkland
2) Reopen Host Bids
3) Abstain from Voting

As there are currently 15 members of the Council who are eligible to vote, a quorum will consist of 8 votes for the bid or for reopening host bids. Should a quorum be reached, the bid will be accepted if it receives the votes of a majority of those voting. Votes should be sent to Acedonia. Votes sent to any other nation will not be counted.

Over the last 12 hours, there have been a total of 8 votes cast in favor of Drawkland's bid and 0 votes cast for reopen host bids. As it would be mathematically impossible for reopen host bids to win even if the remainder of the Council voted for that option, Drawkland is now the elected host of World Baseball Classic 48. Drawkland shall now have the right to make all decisions regarding timings and numbers for this 48th World Baseball Classic.
