As the president of the World Baseball Classic Council, it is my honor to open signups for the 48th edition of the World Baseball Classic! In RL, pitchers and catchers are about to report and spring training baseball will soon be upon us. With the NS soccer cycle also having recently come to an end and the World Bowl approaching its end, it is an ideal time for the return of the longest running non-soccer event in NS Sports history.
How do I sign up?
Just post a reply to this thread saying that you sign up.
Can I sign up more than 1 nation?
You may sign up with up to 2 nations. If you sign up 2 nations, you must declare one of them a "puppet" and confirm with both nations that you control the other nation. The decision of whether or not to include "puppet" nations is up to the eventual host.
For example: This post counts as a signup for Free Republics and I confirm that Saintland is my puppet in case I decide to enter them later.
Who hosts this tournament?
Anybody who wishes to host this tournament may place a host bid in this thread. Host bids should include, at a minimum, information about what scorinator will be used (including the specific formula), the proposed tournament format, any tiebreakers that will be used and the usual details about RP bonus.
How is the host selected?
The members of the World Baseball Classic Council (those who have participated in past WBCs and have been voted into the Council) will vote to choose whether to accept a host bid or to reject all bids and reopen the bidding process.
Who are the members of the WBC Council
The full membership of the WBC Council is listed here
Should I bid if I don't have any hosting experience?
Probably not unless you're bidding with a more experienced partner. The WBC is one of the largest and most RPed events in NS Sports and thus we tend to prefer a more experienced host. However, there is no restriction on a first time host bidding.
What did previous successful host bids look like?
Here are the last 8 winning bids:
Winning WBC 47 bid (Free Republics
Winning WBC 46 bid (Newmanistan & The Sherpa Empire)
Winning WBC 45 bid (Cassadaigua)
Winning WBC 44 bid (Newmanistan)
Winning WBC 43 bid (Cassadaigua)
Winning WBC 42 bid (Free Republics)
Winning WBC 41 bid (Equestrian States)
Winning WBC 40 bid (Cassadaigua)
What is the deadline for host bids
The deadline for host bids will be 4 days (96 hours) after the first bid is posted.
Around when will the WBC start?
Assuming a host bid is posted before the deadline and selected during the first vote, we're probably looking at the tournament starting sometime in early March and potentially running into April. As there are currently no World Cup bids, it is extremely unlikely that the WBC will end up overlapping with the next NS World Cup cycle. Some overlap with the IBC or the WCoH is likely.
Where are the current rankings?
The rankings following WBC 47 can be found here.
Where is the Discussion Thread?
The WBC Discussion Thread can be found here.
I have another question that isn't answered here.
Feel free to ask it here if it's about signups or host bids. Otherwise, feel free to ask it in the Discussion Thread.
