Pryfors Bilar Raceway, Diarcesia
WGP2 Race of the Hills; Lap 20

“Alright, Olivia – Baxen’s engine has failed. He’s out of the race.” The voice of her race engineer cuts through above the new roar of the Viskan charger. It sets her on edge.

Maelstrom take it. “Okay. Any new instructions?”

“No, just keep running as smoothly as you can. We’ll try to preserve the powertrain and capitalise on others’ mistakes.”

Olivia grits her teeth. Nonetheless: “Thanks, Erik. I’ll do what I can.” She draws the car, slowly, gently, away from Turn 12, letting the car flow onto the start-finish straight. She glances in the mirror; the gap to her championship rival remains at a steady two seconds. Imagination… There’s more speed here – I could be away from him like a bolt. I could race, I could –

No. Stay consistent. Race for the team. Don’t need to do anything flashy, just need to score points. Keep the title lead.

The energy boils.

Lap 28

As she leaves the pit lane for the second time, the car around her limited in might, something shifts in Olivia. New tyres, more powerful engine, almost no points where she is…

Little to lose; much to gain. So her subconscious tells her.

The energy boils over.

“Erik.” Olivia’s voice harmonises with the fury of the engine beneath her as she accelerates away, flicking up the modes and clenching the steering wheel in her hands. “We’re not going anywhere like this. I’m going to see how high I can get.”

Up to me to carry both Baxen and I now; need to show what we can do!

Her VL-01A screams down the straight; with it, her mind hones itself, all parts of herself realigning to the singular purpose of driving as quickly as possible. Woman and machine thrum with manic force as they slash past Memories of Old and tyres screech under engine noise into the tight, third corner, momentum preserved as only this covenant of flesh and carbon can.

For both of us! COME ON!

Lap 42

The covenant’s time has almost run. Olivia feels the car; its engine calls to her in juddering cries, begging for a relief from the torture. Just a little more. Just… A little… More!

Her mirrors fill with the shadowy blue of the Badai Angin behind her – Dom Falepeau, the only one on as mighty a charge as her own and, somehow, with fresher tyres – as they cascade into 10. She’s kept him behind for an age now, defending with all her skill. Master of Offence she may be but she’s hardly a lax sentinel. The fire in her mind won’t allow it.

One and a half laps! For Baxen! Come on, come on!

She and her car rattle their way through the serpentine section before 11, focus forward on her line. Olivia scans the track – doesn’t go for the apex, instead coasting wider, granting the engine the slightest respite –

Two things happen at once. Dom goes for what little room there now is on the inside.

And a BANG reverberates from behind her.

Wrenched from her mind-state, Olivia twitches. The steering wheel snaps to the left; her car snaps with it. A front wheel collides with the Badai’s, rips away.

In an instant, Olivia is at the trackside. And the fire burns out.

Lane Carter: The Forgotten Galarian... (pt16-1)

Postby TJUN-ia » Sat Apr 18, 2020 9:47 am

Grand Prix d'Île Saint-Joseph
Circuit d'Arès, Ile Saint-Joseph

Bonjour et bienvenue sur la côte de la Normandie! Hello and welcome to the coast of Normandy! It's here where the tiny independent island of Île Saint-Joseph will have its moment the WGP2 spotlight. The Circuit d'Arès, a racetrack that crosses an international border, will host Round 8 of this entertaining season. The pitlane and the grandstands may be in France, but most the action will be on Île Saint-Joseph.

PRACTICE
To Lane Carter, this circuit was cool on paper. In person a few things will require some thought to get used to. The first thing is the pitlane. As you cant't fit the pitlane on the causeway itself, they're located in France - before the start/finish line. This means you can pit before you start a lap, allowing for more time to get used to the new rubber. The second is the elevation. The island, while small, is mountainous in places and on some corners you might as well be going in blind.

These things were difficult for Lane to get used to. P12 for #11 seemed alright, but not compared to Taras' P5.

QUALIFYING
Lane was one of a few drivers to show consistency between Friday and Saturday. 12th on Friday, 13th on Saturday. Taras fell back to 15th while Sara Luna grabbed pole for the race. It may not be the best result, but Lane knows how these circuits work. Chaos is the norm and the expectation.

An international series will, for the first time, race on the streets of Île Saint-Joseph. Who knows what the outcome will look like come high tide tomorrow afternoon.
1st: ECC4/5, NSSCRA13, RLWC22, IBS20, EBT3, EIHT2
2nd: NSCF24/26, ARWC4, WC:TOTS, IBC34, IBS17, RUWC33/35, ECC6
3rd: ARWC3, IBC32, ECC3/7, ARWC6, ET20IV
NSSCRA - JR
T1: #07 Michael Stefan (S13 T1 Champ/9W)/#64 Alfonso Mercado (3W)/#03 Maddison Riley-Jones (S10 T2 Champ/2W-T1/3W-T2)
T2: #96 Alice Jepkosgei (3W)/#70 Gongming Gao [NCR] (5W)/#79 Axel Chase

WGPO: #11 Lane Carter (2W)/ #9 Batu Tüvshinbayar (WGP2 S5 Champion/1W)
NSTT: 4 S-Titles (3 RU)/2 D-Titles (6 RU)

UN - U1
TJUN (Ta-Jun) - An organ of the UN that focuses on "international role-play" (i.e. USA = Fang the Sniper) (U2)
TJUN-ia (Ta-Jun-ee-a) - The testing grounds of TJUN members, but operates as an independent nation. (U3)

"So what changes will be made to the car?" Sara was curious as she leaned forward.

"We're going to make some hard adjustments to the suspension," Chariot replied. "We're going to take a good look at the ECU and the computer chip used. We also have to make some changes to the gear ratios. It's not an easy task to make those adjustments, especially when yours is somewhat different underneath from Carmi's."

Sara looked around the area. Chariot' gaze was fixated on the steering wheel of Sara's car.

"What do you think?" Sara tilted her head a bit.

"I think we can all agree that there's a lot of promise in the car", said Chariot. "You're fortunate to have made it this far. There's plenty of room for you to improve your already good performance. We see what you did with this car week after week."

Practice
Take your pick:
1. Every man for himself in the sack

Upon an almost level surface the road opened up, the long causeway laid ahead. Sara and her car is stationary, getting ready for the full sprint across that bridge. Pour her heart and feelings to driving this circuit.
2. The blind leading into the pit lane
Or she can memorize each breaking point and turn approach repeatedly, until she could practically navigate it blind. Not that she'd actually do that, but like in previous races, it can free crucial mental bandwidth to adjust to unforeseen situations.

Qualifying
Cars were racing against the clock. Time was running out. One move would make or break a driver's season. Sara's time to make her try for the fastest lap has come, and she knows everyone was fighting to stay on top of the board for that pole position.

Silver Chariot spoke softly through the radio. "You've got to work this out," she said. "You've got to fight with the car. It is part of the equation. It is an extension of you."

Sara didn't respond. She took one last deep breath. "Don't worry. I'll make it."

The radio crackled once again, this time with the announcement of the strategy. "We're going all in. Start one behind Carmi."

Sara took another deep breath and took the wheel once more. As she had done throughout the practice yesterday, Sara maneuvered the car to run faster through the moulin turn to 15. As she returned to the causeway, Sara adjusted the car's stance. The engine's rumble was now noticeably more prominent, along with the transmission's shifting being more responsive.

"That's the car we want," Chariot said over the headset. "Keep up this pace, we'll support you through the rest of the lap."

Afterwards, at the team room in the circuit
The Adelphia radio crackled once more, this time with the announcement of the starting positions.

The first came for Carmi. The Stayquestrian driver was set to start 11th. And then Sara's.

Pole position.

Sara smiled at this revelation. That'll mean she has an advantage in getting through the race laps. Her gut tells her that it'll be similar to San Marco as far as margin of error is concerned. This being said, the course is a bit slower.

''Lord have mercy on me!'' Tanielu sighed as Barnabas Mate's race engineer let him know about there being issues with the car's engine. While Fanene was staying well on pace, the Gergarian's engine was lacking power, which was reflected in the lap times he was delivering. ''Do we know what causes this issue?''

''Hard to tell right now, data doesn't provide enough knowledge. We will need to disassemble the engine to find out.''

Another sigh came from Tanielu. The car had been superb so far. Not even comparable to last year, when they suffered one mechanical failure after another. However, as the season was coming to an end, the engines were starting to slowly die out. The amount of juice they had squeezed out from Kaieke 2 races upon races was remarkable. ''We do not have any fresh spare engines left, do we?''

''Nope, we have reached the limit of powertrains allocated to us.''

Tanielu nod. ''As soon as the session ends, take a look at the engine on Mate's car. We need to find the issue, and we need to flush it out before tomorrow's race start. We need every single point there is left to get during this season.'' Another sleepless night for the mechanics was awaiting for them. This whole season had been a rollercoaster with it's ups and downs. The board wanted to see the team finish in top half of the team standings - a goal which was very much achievable at this point. However, Tanielu wanted more. He wanted the team to be the clear best of the rest. He wanted to stay in that spot behind Badai Angin, maybe even crawl closer to them. He was thirsty for more.

Circuit d'Arès, Île Saint-Joseph
Practice

After the double-DNF at the last race due to the engine. The team reverted back to the pre-mid season engine spec. Slightly lower power but better reliability. Now with the return of Jöna, it is time to fight back. The new engine is tuned a bit to gain a few more horsepower to help them out. Then the team proceeds to gather as much data as they can in the limited time they have. First out of the pits, it's time to focus.

Times are consistent, as expected. They are not going for the fastest, for now, but at least staying on the top half of the time sheets. Everyone's optimistic now. Hopes are high for a good finish.

Qualifying

The only time to push the hardest.

Mode: Hotlap
Tires: Softest
Fuel: Enough for at least 3 Qualifying Laps

Time to go.

After a few laps of repeated out-lap-in and a few tows in between. The two Viska drivers qualified P5 and P7. Decent places to be in at the start. This is still a street circuit, one of the most treacherous types of circuits. Luck and skill is what they need for the race. Mostly the drivers' skills.

"Alright guys, good luck at the race. We need to fight back so do what you guys do best."

WGP2: Falepeau gives IGR second WGP2 win

PRYFURIUM, DIACRESIA - Ibuna-Gambal Racing (IGR) have gotten their second WGP2 win of their existence, and the first of this season after Togoni driver Dom Falepeau took the chequered flag to take the fight to Olivia Stone and the Schkeska-VSK Viska Racing ahead of the GP Ile Saint Joseph next round.

Starting from 19th, the lead driver of the Badai Angin-funded IGR team found his way up to the top 10 within the first ten laps, and a plausible pit strategy enabled him to push for a podium spot which he held P2 with several laps to go. However, his attempt to overtake the leader of the drivers' championship, Olivia Stone, went horribly wrong after the two cars' front wheels made contact, ending the Nimban's race. But despite the damage it caused to the TT02 car, Falepeau was able to limp off to the finish line to end IGR's winning drought, from which current Formula Hodori driver Tyra Tabuso won a WGP2 round a season ago at the Incosima International Circuit.

WGP2 race stewards saw the incident as a racing one, and as such, Falepeau was able to keep his win, and as a result, has him inching closer to the leaders, with only 19 points separating Stone, SVJ Racing's Abdoulaye Goita, Falepeau and Sara Luna of Adelphia-VMR, with three races remaining in the WGP2 season. In the constructors' championship, 16 points separate SVJ Racing, Viska Racing, and IGR, with more points up for grabs.

Tropicorp Mini-Pit Crew Challenge wraps up World Grand Prix Tour

After seeing the full Tropicorp Racing Supply Pit Crew Challenge fanzone event at the Cocoabo Preservation Grand Prix in the Cocoabo Forest, the main display packed itself up and headed off on the Nationstates Stock Car Racing Association (NSSCRA) Circuit. However, when the World Grand Prix 2 circuit returned from its mid-season break in Hapilopper, Tropicorp Racing Supply was still on hand with a streamlined version of its Tropicorp Pit Crew Challenge competition fanzone consisting of the Tire Changing Station and the Inspection & Repairs Kiosk. This mini-pit crew challenge zone would follow the circuit from Hapilopper to Diacesia and Iles de Saint Joseph before packing up for the season In addition to allowing fans in attendance to test their skill as pit crew members of a real racing vechicle, the participants with the top times or scores at each Pit Crew station during each of the individual events will also be eligible to earn grand prizes in the Tropicorp Pit Crew Challenge competition.

Grand Prize winners will be selected based on their performance in the various stations in the Pit Crew Challenge at each unique venue and will receive all expenses paid transportation and lodging to Tropicoast for two weeks leading up to the Tropicorp 500 NSSCRA event where they will train as a team and being judged on their suitability by Team Tropicorp staff during this time. The participants with the best performances during the two-week training camp will be selected to comprise the pit crew for the #42 Tropicorp Racing Supply entry into the NSSCRA Tropicorp Pit Crew Competition to be held prior to the Tropicorp 500 as well as for the Tropicorp 500 itself where Euroli Islander is expected to compete in the #42 Tropicorp Sifaka Dart as the open charter entry. Additional participants may be selected for secondary responsibilities on the #42 Pit Stop team such as that of the Tire Carrier. The fan with the highest scores at the Inspection Kiosk may be chosen as honorary Crew Chief working alongside one of Team Tropicorp's engineers to call the race on top of the pit box for Euroli Islander.

All fans wishing to participate in the Tropicorp Pit Crew Challenge and have their time considered for the Grand Prize are required to fill out a small form indemnifying Tropicorp from any harm that may come to the participant in the Challenge as well as providing the following information for contest purposes:
- Name
- Age
- Home Nation
- Occupation
- WGP2 Event (Full - Cocoabo Forest); (Mini - Hapilopper, Diacesia, Isle de Saint Joseph - Tires; Repair & Inspection only);
- Discipline Station (Tire Changing, Fueling, Jacking, Repairs and/or Inspection)

All forms should be submitted to a Tropicorp
representative prior to competing in the Tropicorp Pit Crew Challenge. Participants are encouraged to attempt multiple disciplines if they desire throughout any given event weekend. Personnel who are officially sanctioned NSSCRA team members holding an NSSCRA membership, their direct family or contracted associates are not eligible for the grand prize. WGP2 officials and team members ARE eligible to compete as the Grand Prize is associated with an NSSCRA event.

Status: Pretty sure i just got a perfect score in @TropicorpRS pit crew challenge inspection station. Missed every single infraction!

#WGP2 : #Fail : #PitCrewChallenge

Once the green flag drops at the Circuit d'Ares, the Tropicorp Pit Crew Challenge will be packed away for the Grand Prix racing season and the Tropicorp Racing Supply team on site will begin submitting their winners for entry into the grand prize competitions. Fans will still have the excitement of the 8th round of the World Grand Prix 2 championship to keep their attention, however, as VTM Team Tropicorp drivers look to improve on a wholly disappointing season thus far that has yielded no podium finishes. The problems on track have been exacerbated by the inability of Cocoabo #23 to put in solid qualifying times. While Fast Cocoabo was the third highest driver on the charts in Practices at the Circuit d'Ares, the #23 Tropicorp Engineering machine was only 21st on the grid after the Cocoabo missed the exit of Turn 21 and was off the pace down the long straight back to the mainland. It resulted in a time so slow that Cocoabo #23 only beat the worst of the worst including Hapiloppers Drake Stevenson who appears set to retire from the ranks of the open wheel circuit back to the safety of Team Blue's stock car ranks in either the NSSCRA or HASCAR.

While the poor start is a disappointment for Fast Cocoabo's team, it has become something of a regular occurrence this season as the #23 machine has started in the back more often or not. Cocoabo #23 has passed more cars on track than any other driver this season but has used the car up heavily doing it, often making their way into the Top 5 before having mechanical issues and dropping out of the points or out of the race entirely. The trick for Fast Cocoabo today in d'ille of Saint Joseph will be to make their way from back to the front without completely destroying the car in the process. With just three races to go in the WGP2 season, VTM Team Tropicorp need a podium finish today to have any shot at competing for any points related honors at seasons end.

Jolyn and Adriana – Week 9 – Pryfors Bilar Raceway, Diarcesia

JHC: 04 / 20 / 17 / 13 / 09 (Standings)
AKS: 09 / DF / DF / DF / DF (Standings)

Jolyn did rather well for this race, though the first start was a fumble. She started from 20th, then 17th, then 13th… and finally finishing at 9th. She was elated that after a series of fumbles and after the awful race previously, Jolyn was at least able to secure 2 points for herself and for the team she was on. Might not be much, but every little bit will have to do, she thought to herself.

"Every little bit," she thought to herself, her car on one side, and clutching her helmet with both arms, almost as if she was posing for a photo. She was just happy and satisfied with herself for the time being, looking at the sun setting onto the horizon.

In the meantime, Adriana had her own issues. She wasn't too fazed by it, but one could tell the embarrassment in her face. A mix of sadness and embarrassment, but mostly the latter.

"What happened to you, Adriana?" Jolyn asked, this time, it was her turn to console her friend.

"Ahh, nothing much..." Adriana trailed off, gathering her data and thoughts before she reply back, "Okay, maybe a small thing, haha! So... I retired at the 5th lap."

"Yeah, I heard about that. I'm so sorry to hear, what happened?"

"Haha, so err... Funny story," she propped a screen on the bench they are sitting at in the meantime, with the screen showing the video playback of one of the cameras on Adriana's car.

As she was going to the 5th lap, there was an animal that went up to the track. It seemed confused, scared even, and was sticking to the side of the track, fortunately for both the animal and for the drivers. Adriana, however, would slow down while looking at her back, and proceeded to pet the animal, to which the animal could be heard purring for a good few moments.

"So... You slowed down to do a drive-by petting on a lynx?" Jolyn asked, confused.

"Sounds about right, haha!"

"Ohhh, Adriana... That was quite a waste, I will have to say. Usually it would be a car problem or a crash, but you spent too long to get back to track... Well, that's the Valentian way! Sorry to hear about your DNF, though."

"Ahh, it's all right, no worries!" Adriana said with confidence and still elation in her voice, "There's always next race! Oh yeah, that lynx was soft to the touch, too."

"Ahh, I can tell."

Jolyn and Adriana – Week 10 – Circuit d'Arès, Île Saint-Joseph – After Qualifications

Fast forwarding to Week 10, the qualification went well, in the meantime. Jolyn placed 9th yet again, and Adriana will be at 18th. The latter’s qualification positions would be a little dangerous, but she would still be fine.

Adriana and Jolyn, after the qualifications, were sitting together for a cup of coffee, looking at their phones. They were informed of the Clash event that is happening – both from the official NSSCRA website, as well as from the Valentians that sent them an email about it. Adriana unfortunately could not go, given her lack of participation as a racer. As for Jolyn?

"So... You heard about that Clash thing?"

"I think I do, yeah!" Jolyn replied, looking at her phone on the list of members eligible for Clash.

"You think you want to go for that? I think we can have some schedule conflict, but you could free yourself and get the Valentians to teleport or send a ship here."

"Hmm... I think I might make a call. Let's hope that this works!"

Jolyn would then call the Valentians in the NSSCRA 9 team, citing about her interest for Clash.

"But #15 and #63 are taken, so... Fourth number?" Jared would ask her.

"Hmm... #13?"

"Taken."

"#6?"

"Taken."

"#60?"

"Ehhh... Not very sure about that."

"Oh dear, so many people in the race, eh? Hmm... #55?"

“I am so sorry, Jolyn… try another one! Hmm, #95?”

“Oh wait… #51! Is 51 free?”

"#51 seems to be free, I think that'll be fine."

"Aww yes, fantastic!"

"Color scheme?"

"Grey and light grey! The classic color that screams Jolyn Maxine Caulfield! Now then… time for me to come back to the world of Stock Car Racing."

“Haha, fantastic! I will send the email to the NSSCRA Officials, all right? Please just make sure that you are free, we will pick you up via a dropship. Angeline’s flying!”

“Well, it looks like we have a plan.”

As the door to the conference room slides closed, Gertrude lets out a chuckle on a puff of breath. She comes to a halt, closing her eyes and bowing her head just a touch. Still can’t quite believe all of this is happening.

“And a good one at that.” Timothy’s plucky intonations ring out down the corridor. “I’m quite confident that you’ll all be stable for the next few years… Between that and you, it’s reassuring to know.”

“Pffft!” Gertrude’s eyes flicker; she places a hand to her hip and raises a sly grin. “‘Stable’? With me at the helm? If anything, we’ll be modifying organisational subsystems every half hour!”

Timothy lets out a laugh as the two begin to walk. “Ah, I didn’t mean that. Stability needn’t preclude innovation – you’ve taught me so enough times! I simply mean… Well, Nexus Racing’s approach to racing is unique, at least currently, and sometimes success isn’t constant. It’s good to know that we still have favour here.”

“They’ve seen the last few years, they know what we have now and they’ll see it in WGPC 18. Can’t say fairer than that.” Gertrude sighs.

“Still worried?”

“Just a little…” She glances up. “Nerves, mostly.”

“You can still refuse if you wish, Gertrude.” Timothy’s gaze is warm, homely. “You’ll know best what course to take.”

Gertrude remains silent for a moment. “Yes, I do. It’s this. My team are doing more than alright and will be fine with Lucia and I have the skills to take this on.” She smiles up at Timothy. “Still nervous but, hey, that’s humanity for you. It’s the unknown. We’re scared of it, sure, but we can find good things there, too.”

“Besides, ‘nervousness’ is pretty close to ‘anticipation’.”

Lane Carter: The Forgotten Galarian... (pt16-2)

Postby TJUN-ia » Wed Apr 22, 2020 10:08 am

The rain came down in Normandy and Carter had some unexpected luck inIle Saint-Joseph. He took advantage of some mid-race saftey-cars to pit early and move up to 7th. He moved up afterward to finish the race in 4th, his best finish of the season. After the points drought, water was dug up on Île Saint-Joseph.

Carter is now 13th in the standings, where he started this race, with 24 points. 5 points ahead of his teammate Taras, who finished a lap down in 17th. UrGa is now in 8th in the team's standings with 43 points, now ahead of Nexus Racing and 5 points behind SinVal Racing

The 2nd-to-last round of this season will be the Grand Prix of Westmeadow Tavern in Eastfield Lodge. The homeland of SinVal, the Tavernia Parkway Circuit is old but also technical. And Carter likes technical.

Excerpt from "History of Phoenician Tires"
Phoenician Tires's main research center at Castamiria was founded in 1978 to test new technologies. The first product to use their innovative technology was used by the first racing vehicle with the Kinetic Energy Radiant Internal Combustion Engine (also known as "Kaiser Friede"). It was the predecessor of the modern day Phoenician Fitts-Sothern tires in wide use in the Diarcesian open-wheel circuit masters.

In the beginning, the firm studied the effects of their technology on suspension systems. They determined that the best way to utilize the energy released by braking would be to increase the amount of force coming at the rear of the car (eg. by allowing for more rear-wheel travel). After applying the technology for several seasons, the teams found that the suspension's performance and ride quality decreased. The public learned that contrary to projections, the rear did not feel connected to the frame, and the contemporary setups did not provide the necessary stability for the tires.

Circuit d'Arès, Île Saint-Joseph
The Race

Sara felt to be in the middle of a new era of her racing career. The subtle and unwritten rules of the game changed in the switch from WPG3 to WGP2, and the season was not over. There were still two races left after this. The drivers would continue to compete for a couple more weeks.

With the knowledge gained in the WGP2 and the guidance of manager Winter Breeze, Sara Luna set out to find a way to make the most of her technical skill. She took a different route than most, for she also turned to Jackie Chan for advice. One of those nuggets she received is, "the best fights are the ones we avoid."

And the rain was pouring. In a street circuit. With little room for mistakes.

The ride was tight and the speed was incredible. The way the car pulled and its wheels spun had never been so much an open flow.

Later, at the paddocks
"Hold on a sec", someone was calling at Sara. "Can we get a picture taken?"

She waited for this person to get to her. "Sure", she said.

"I don't remember seeing you without your helmet."

Sara smiled a little. "It's the sun allergy, the rain and the clouds allowed me for some fresh air this time."

"Uh, yeah", this fan said. She got out her phone and started snapping photos. "Thanks!" She ran off excitedly.

Circuit d'Arès, Île Saint-Joseph
Race

Rain at a street circuit. A brilliant combination.

All the cars are lined up after the formation lap then it's lights out. A lot of drivers messed up their starts and on the rundown to turn 1, due to the spray from the cars, many missed their braking points and went wide. The two Viska drivers took advantage of the chaotic situation to gain a few positions but they couldn't catch up to Adelphia's Sara Luna at the opening laps. Then we have our first DNF at the third lap, no safety car yet but it is expected be deployed based on the weather conditions alone.

"Try to stay out, there will be a safety car soon. We'll get them on restart."

Another DNF at Lap 11, Baxen at P3 and Olivia at P6. No safety car deployed until a retirement a few laps later. The safety car is deployed.

Erik already knows the plan, "Olivia, drop back a few seconds. We're going to double-stack here. You both are pitting for fresh wets."

As they reach the pits, some of the other teams are attempting to get their free pit but only a few attempt to do a double-stack for both drivers to get a free pit. Clearly Viska perfected this strategy at home. Now, the two drivers got their fresh wet tires they leave the pitlane and queue up behind the safety car. The safety car was out for fours laps, until the restart at the end of Lap 18.

On restart, the ones with the fresher tires climb up the order but they still cannot reach Sara Luna but the gap is closing slowly, there might be a chance for a win.

After a few brilliant overtakes, Baxen is currently at P2, closing in fast on Sara Luna. After he's close enough, he tries to overtake on the inside at falaise but the door was shut fast and he nearly hit the wall. Time to try again but behind him, the others are keeping up with the front runners, this includes Olivia who was pitted to replace the damaged front wing, along with a new set of wet tires.

Laps later, after trying to keep up with Sara Luna, Baxen ran wide at tanneur and lost a lot of places. There is still a chance with Olivia, she is slowly climbing up and at the penultimate lap, she managed to take P2 and stay there.

Post-Race
Finally, a podium finish. The team celebrates in the garage. It's not a win but it is a great finish, even with Baxen's P7 finish. Finally another race with both drivers finishing. Only two races left, time to step it up a notch to win the championship.

"Lane, this is Vasily. You are in a good position now to challenge for your first podium," Vasily Gatutin called out to his TJUN-ian driver. "We want you to come in for fresh inters and push."

For all the talk of UrGa keeping Taras Matviyenko as their number one driver and Lane Carter as number two, in more and more races during the second half of the WGP2 season Carter had been receiving more and more attention from the team. It certainly didn't help Matviyenko's cause that he had been lapped quite a few times in the aforementioned races. It also didn't help that Carter looked more likely to grab a podium today than Matviyenko, who simply fell away from the rest of the lead lappers right at the very beginning.

Carter came in on lap 27, with him just three seconds away from sneaking into the podium places. The driver behind him, Falapeau from Badai Angin, was twenty seconds off Carter. The pit crew did their best to keep Carter stopped for as short a time as possible, but Falapeau still managed to take P4 from Carter.

"Don't mind that at all, Lane," Gatutin told the TJUN-ian over the radio. "We're on fresher tyres. Just keep in your groove and push. We've got eight laps to get you your podium."

Carter caught up to Falapeau and eventually overtook the Togonistani within two laps. But that turned out to be the easy part. Carter didn't think that he would get embroiled in a battle with Rod Gozum for P3. The two cars were matched in terms of engine power thanks to WGP2's new power unit cap rule, but in all other aspects they were night and day. Poor acceleration and cornering combined with Carter seemingly not wanting to risk an overtake on Gozum to produce a battle that was seemingly enthralling but in reality was leading nowhere at all.

"Goddamn it, Carter, I thought I told you to push!" Gatutin shouted at the screen as he watched the TJUN-ian poke and prod at the Filindostani but not really doing anything. "Get a move on!"

Finally, with only two laps to go, Carter made his move on Gozum in Marches. It helped that Gozum had a poor exit out of the turn and Carter took it almost perfectly. Carter then applied the richest fuel mixture possible and stepped hard on the accelerator as he went down the back straight. For a brief moment, Carter felt like he was in a rocket ship. The UrGa chassis was not known for acceleration and yet here he was reaching speeds over 300 kilometers per hour along this bridge.

"Yes!" The UrGa staff cheered as Carter slotted himself into P3 coming into the final lap of the race. "Yes! Come on! Another podium for UrGa!" Gatutin shouted. "You can do this, Lane! Come on!"

And then, like a serial killer in a forgettable movie, another car appeared on Carter's rear view mirrors and just blew past him. "What was that!" Carter cried out.

"Fuck!" Gatutin yelled as Laurencia Lynds stole what would have been the second podium finish for UrGa and Lane Carter's first ever podium place. Once again a table bore the brunt of Gatutin's anger as he smashed his fists into it.

The soft breeze Abdoulaye had felt from the basilica’s spire as he looked out over the island had been too slight to notice at ground level, but by qualifying on Saturday it had grown to a warm, pleasant wind. An unexpected boon in Normandy at this time of year, to be sure. But the next morning, when Abdoulaye woke up, it was clear what had happened: the warm breeze had been the first sign of a warm front and now it was here. Stormclouds cluttered the horizon, blocking the view of England that was visible across the channel on a clear day, and giving the sea to the west a menacing aspect. As Abdoulaye joined his team to prepare for the race, distant rumblings added an audible warning of what was to come.

But it wasn’t until the formation lap was complete and the cars were on the grid that the rain arrived. In the brief silence before the engines roared to life, you could hear it coming—here on the causeway in the middle of the water there was no hubbub, no excited crowd. First, the sound of nothing more than a distant breath, coming over the water, then a crescendo as it drew nearer. Abdoulaye could look at the sea, just three meters below him, and see its stillness, as if it was unaware what was about to come. Then, a gust of wind: the wrinkles on the water’s surface combined into waves, small at first, then larger, then rougher and rougher, until the spray flew up and splashed onto the side of the track cover before running back.

Finally, as the lights turned on, it arrived. Abdoulaye couldn’t hear it any more over the engines revving up, but he could feel it, pouring down onto his helmet and running down his visor. Somewhere above, a bolt of lightning flashed and the sky cracked open with thunder. The waves now were divoted with raindrops. The track cover might as well not have been put in place. The deluge had entirely soaked the track even before the race had started—and hardly anyone was on wets.

Abdoulaye was excited in a perverse sort of way. The more chaos the rest of the field would see, the better for him. He knew he could rise through a clustered field, he had done it before. And certainly, his expectations for how the rain would affect the others were well-founded. By the third lap, Kowalski had already retired, and by the fifteenth, Neretti had had such an incident the safety car came out for four laps.

But perhaps some element of karma was at work, because Abdoulaye benefited from none of it. At the front of the field, he had no places to gain, and then, just toward the end, he spun out himself at fécamp, dropped out of the podium race, and found himself unable to fight his way back. A disappointing finish to such a good start.

Lane Carter: The Forgotten Galarian... (pt17-1)

Postby TJUN-ia » Sat Apr 25, 2020 6:20 am

Grand Prix of Westmeadow Tavern
Tavernia Parkway Circuit, Eastfield Lodge

Welcome along to Eastfield Lodge for Round 9 of the 3rd WGP2. This season has seen its highs and lows, but now we are reaching the end. Hello to our new viewers watching across TJUN-ia, due to the new agreement by the 10 Regional Broadcasters. We at JBBST would like to personally welcome the other 9 networks to the world of WGP. I'm sure you'll like it. Remember, you can also watch this series and other sporting events on our other 5 sports channels, depending on which language you want. If you want to watch the action while learning Esperanto, you can watch this weekend's action on TMEsperanto - that's channel 6 on your TV guide.

Now then, onto this weekend. The championship looks to be 2 horse race between Olivia Stone of Schkeska-VSK Viska Racing and Sara Luna of Adelphia-VMR, but don't count out Abdoulaye Goita or Dom Falepeau just yet. The picture should be easier to understand by Monday.

The new TV deal (nicknamed "TV+ALL" in the TJUN-ian media) was fresh in Lane Carter's mind when he arrived in Tavernia on Friday morning. This deal meant that all of his adopted homeland can see his successes....but also his failures. This race would be the first one under the new deal, but he knew a lot of people would be interested. That tennis match Jean van de Kloor was in showed that appetite for international sport is far greater than the networks were expecting.

The focus for Carter was to try his best to put on a show for his viewers at home, simple as. He wasn't going to win the championship, but Top 10 would be a sign that maybe a move up to WGPC could be on the cards.

PRACTICE
The rain came down in Tavernia. With most on the grid unsure of what the conditions would be like on Saturday, the main aim was to get as much data as possible. Carter managed to deal with the weather nicely to get 2nd, with Taras in 16th.

QUALIFYING
Jean van de Kloor may have failed to overcome Leo Gary, but Lane had other concerns to deal with. The weather had dried up overnight in Tavernia, and that meant no one had any data to rely on heading into one-shot quali. Oof. Lane's time was alright, as he put the car into 8th for tomorrow, but Taras had managed 4th in the same car. Maybe there is more the UrGa car can give. The weather will be the deciding factor tomorrow.

Carter himself, however, is more focused on another matter tonight. The TJUN-ian Government has sent him a book: 'Esperanto: How To Learn The New Second Language (Esperanto: Kiel Lerni La Nova Dua Lingvo)', which is a guide to help him and his fellow Jaguars learn Esperanto - the only language that will be in use for all signs in TJUN-ia. Late-night reading it is, but tomorrow will have everyone with one eye in the sky.

Practice

Rainy practice, not the perfect condition for practice but it's better than nothing. They went ahead with their usual practice programmes, gathering data and such. However, the Aurun team encountered some issues, now only getting a few laps out and only placing P13 and P18. This looks like another difficult weekend and the conditions didn't help.

They're going to keep going anyway, hopefully the conditions in qualifying would be better.

Qualifying
One-shot qualifying is challenging to drivers with only one attempt on a qualifying lap and a lot of pressure is on them to qualify well. Olivia spun on her lap, qualifying P21. A lot of work needs to be done at the race to finish in the points. Meanwhile, Baxen finished P3 behind Jolyn Caulfield and Adriana Kowalski.

Expectations are high and Jöna definitely wants both drivers to finish high in the points to continue leading the championship. This race might be the championship decider for this season.

MOTORSPORT
Special Report: What the future holds for the Filindo drivers and teams in Hodori?

HODORI - After Season 175 of the Hodoran domestic motorsport drew to a close last month, let's take a look at the future of those who are involved in the series:

Monghit Motorsport - After the team declined an opportunity to operate Badai Angin's NSSCRA operation, they chose to partner with the same marque for their entry in the Hodoran GT series, entering a Kecepatan K6 for the GT600, and leasing a Tarogama Ephinea GT400 for the lower GT400 series. They found relative success at the GT400 series, winning two races and finishing 2nd in both Drivers' and Teams' championship. It was a different story however for the GT600 series, where they only finished on the podium for one race and scored points in half of the races they entered. At the end of the season, Badai Angin announced the extension of the partnership for next season. However, Chiemi Hino was let go of her Badai Angin contract after the final race, citing irreconcilable differences with Eiji Ibi, with the rift stemming when they were both still driving for Kissan Motorsport's NSSCRA program. Ibi is set to retain his spot, with Kyoko Fujisaki possibly partnering him at the #99 entry. Jenie and Egar are both expected to continue driving for the #999 GT400 entry and will attempt to win the title.

Ibuna-Gambal Racing - After the outfit entered Kyoko Fujisaki in Season 174 using Tarogama engines, they entered a second entry, the #48, with ex-WGPC driver Tyra Tabuso driving, along with the engine homologation for the Badai Angin BA90013/2 approved. Like she did in WGP2 last season, Tyra was able to win a race there, but missed out of the top 5 in the drivers' championship due to inconsistent performances, which also dogged her ex-WGPC teammate. The team lost its podium spot in the final race of the season to SUPER OPTION Motorsport, but Bryant Gambal has to be happy with the progress of the team, which is expected to be retained for next season. WIth Fujisaki rumored to be moving to GT racing next season, either Alvis Kalvin Lacsamana or Barnabas Mate may be the one to take her spot in the team, as the driver program for Badai Angin seems to be filled up for coming seasons, with Rod Gozum and Mate both in the pipeline. For Tyra Tabuso, she is expected to continue as well, possibly confirming the fact that she had already quit WGPC racing for next couple of seasons.

Dahon Autosport is not expected to venture in racing in Hodori for both GT and Formula Touring, but they might enter the Hodoran Rally Championship. However, their resources are all into the NSSCRA program right now, so it may be improbable for them to enter in the near future.

A pub in Eastfield Lodge

Dom Falepeau was sitting in a pub, downing a pint after the Saturday's qualification. Single-shot sessions were a real pain for him. Well, for a lot of drivers. No margin for error there. Thus, he had sat down in a quiet corner to unwind himself for a short while. He needed a little time for himself.

He took a sip from his beer, when he suddenly heard his name being said: ''Dom?''

Dom looked up and saw a familiar face approaching him. It was Manny Epula, a fellow Togonistani driver. It had been ages he had seen him, if he recalled correctly, they hadn't talked since the first season of WGP2. A season they both wanted to forget about.

''Manny? Hey there, been a long time.''

''Ya man, been long. How's it hanging?'' Manny took a seat in Dom's table.

''Oh, you know... there are ups and downs. Some days better, some days worse.''

''Yeah, yeah... tell me about it. I've seen ya still in WGP2 eh? Drivin' for dem Badai Angin boys.''

''Indeed I am.''

''Ya, I keep eye on dat. Ya all high in standings, hunting for dat title eh?''

''Haha, I'm not sure about that... would take a miracle at this point for that to happen. I'm just doing my job and trying to bring good results for the team during the few races there are left.''

''Dem Filindos seem to have given ya a decent ride.''

''Well, they know what they're doing. Good team, great atmosphere.''

''Right, right...''

''So, how about you? How you been?''

''Haha man... I'm a changed man. Oh yeah! Went through rehab, been back on track now ya know.''

''That's great to hear. What bring you to Eastfield Lodge, if I may ask?''

''I'm scouting. Ya know, came to see the race, check out sum teams...''

''Oh, really?''

''Yea man, thinkin of jumpin back on open seaters. Might give WGP another try.''

''Sounds great.''

''Ya man... listen. You wanna talk to dem Badai Angin boys? Ya know... give dem sum hints to look at a certain Epula for next WGP2 season?''

''I... well, that's not really how it works. I'm just a driver after all.''

''Aw man, come on! They need a beast behind da wheel! Ya sure got some ties, tell dem a few words for me man!''

''Well, I could see what I can do. If I were you, I wouldn't get my hopes up though.''

''Ya man! Thanks homie! Listen, I gotta run, throw me a message sum time. Miss hangin' around with ya.''

''Sure. Good luck with your endeavours.''

''Fo sure, fo sure.'' Manny stood up. ''I'm rootin for ya! Bring dat title home! Ya hear me?!''

Dom sighed and shook his head as he watched Manny walking away. How could someone be so stubborn, yet so clueless? Did he really expect him to walk up to Bryant Gambal and tell him who the team should sign for the next season? Dom shook his head again as he downed his pint.

Kaylan Team Garage

It was way past midnight as Jared Toelau still stood with the mechanics in the garage, trying to figure our a way to improve the failing engine any way possible. ''Well, at least the engines haven't completely died. We might be able to pull through these last few races, if only our drivers won't suck too much juice out of them... he tried to remain positive about the whole situation. Sadly, points did not come by cruising around the track. They had to do something... the problem was, they had already tried anything they could think of. Best they could do now was pray. Pray the engines would last. Pray for a miracle that would bring them any points left up to grab. ''Okay, let's take another look at the performance data...

"One shot qualifying? Again?" UrGa chief engineer Konstantin Rezansov said. "All right, fine. We can work with this. We can work with this," he repeated, more to reassure himself than to actually drill the message into the minds of his staff.

What this meant for UrGa Motorsports was that they would focus on getting the qualifying trim for both of their cars as best as they could possibly get it. Race trim wasn't much of a priority at this point in the season because the season had showed that even when UrGa turned in their best performances of the season, sometimes things just refused to work out. And usually other teams off their game were much better than UrGa's absolute best. It was a tough situation to be in, but after the race in Hapilopper, Vasily Gatutin had privately admitted to Rezansov that he was going to write off this season. Once again Rezansov flashed back to that race in Filindostan where UrGa appeared set to clinch the 1-2 were it not for that fucking eight-wheeler Nexus singlehandedly bringing down the hopes and dreams of an entire nation. Where would UrGa's season have been had they gotten the 1-2 in Filindostan?

UrGa appeared to have locked in the absolute perfect setup for Lane Carter when the TJUN-ian blasted through practice and ended up in P2. Taras Matviyenko had a lot less luck in practice, struggling with his setup all the time and finishing in a measly P16.

Then came qualifying itself, and it appeared that the tables had been turned. Taras managed to take his machine to P4, seemingly by the force of his own willpower. P8 was not bad by any means for Carter; it just appeared disappointing compared to how he had gone P2 in qualifying with quali trim.

Was this another golden opportunity for UrGa to grab another podium or even a very late win in the season? Or was this just another setup for another massive disappointment? There was no time at all for UrGa to fiddle around with their setup because of parc ferme rules, and even if they could manipulate their setups there was no way to tell just how effective or bad the changes made were going to be until the cars got to the track itself. Better not risk it and just hope for the best while also expecting the worst.

Such was life for UrGa Motorsports Division.

Sara today was a lady of many words, and those who knew her well spoke of her routine when she is in "the zone". She was fully suited-up, just as she always was, to minimize her sun exposure, so she would still look healthy.

"The drive was great", she said after the qualifying during the team meeting. "I'm glad I did what I have done with my car today."

Compared to the previous races, she seemed to be unfazed at her starting position (P19). To her, it's only another challenge to be deconstructed piece by piece.

She continued, "I think the most important thing is to put yourself in the shoes of the others around you. What would you do if you were the other driver? What if someone is hot on your heels, seeking to get in front of you?"

Sara grinned as she shot that question. "I think my question is on point. In the end, the key word is focus. You can't let this get to you. Focus on the win. The stakes are very high. You see, concentrate on the drive."

"I guess I can understand the philosophy behind the drive being that you have to stretch the tires", said Chariot. "But its not like you can just take your car out on an extended run and expect to be okay."

"Yeah, and it cost us two races", Sara replied. "I'm still learning new things about the car. I wish I had more time. My effort should be directed to where it matters."

"I see. So you have faith in the car though?"

"Yes, this is the direction we want to take the team. Home in on the win and championship. Anything else is secondary."

"I understand. What do you think of VMR's new engines?"

"It's better. I feel they address the various kinds of race tracks out there. They're also relatively inexpensive, compared to our peers. To put it another way, the VMR engines are helping in making us one of the most versatile squads on the field, with plenty of different uses for the car. There's a lot of potential here, and I'm eager to do my best for the remainder of the season."

"And the transmission, for instance?"

"It's fairly simple. You just twist the transmission just a little bit and notice the power transfer between the transducers. It's a fairly typical transmission, in that regard. It just took me a little getting used to."

"And you like it?"

"Yeah!"

Chariot let out a chuckle and then turned back to the other engineers. "Do you like the transmission so far?"

One of them answered. "It's great that it's so simple. I just kind of feel like the company has missed the boat with that particular model. There's so much more punch and snap to it."

"Well, there's always the option to run two different transducers", said the other. "Use one for straights and corners, and the other for more aggressive handling. That said, there's still more than enough room for those who like a challenge, though I suspect the majority of us will find themselves equally as happy with the current setup."

Everything was going wrong.

After winning your first race, things can’t get any better. But Abdoulaye had hoped that hanging on to first place in the championship standings for so long would have earned him a spot in easy striking distance of the title now as the season sped toward its end. Yet here in the last few races things were slipping away from him.

In Île Saint-Joseph, Luna’s win had pushed him out of second place for the first time, and Stone’s second place finish had pushed SVJ Racing out of first place. Abdoulaye began to feel helpless. He could win every race from this point on, but unless his competitors began to fail out of nowhere, it wouldn’t be enough.

The failure he could feel looming over him was a huge disappointment. True, even taking third in the standings would be something to celebrate, but after having tasted victory, anything else was bitter.

Despite that, Abdoulaye fought on. Some areas were within his control, and in those he would never give up. Certainly, here at Tavernia, the one-shot qualifying format meant that his control of the situation was vastly reduced. But then, so was everyone else’s, and all he could do was his best.

Practice had felt okay, mostly mediocre. He’d been in the middle of the field when the results were posted, and he needed to do better if he wanted to compete. He only had one chance at qualifying: it would have to be perfect.

He took his out-lap nice and easy, saving the tires, conserving fuel. Then, as he came around corner 20, he switched fuel mixtures… and punched it. The start line flew by, and he tucked in beautifully for corner 1. “Beautiful start Abs,” he heard Markko’s voice through his headset. “You got this.”

The chicane at the pit exit would always be tricky, but Abdoulaye handled it with confidence. Fast out of turn four, then turns five and six were the most difficult section of the course, but Abdoulaye kept perfect acceleration throughout.

Then the straights, and what straights they were. Even under the pressures of driving his single qualification lap, Abdoulaye was still aware of the sheer joy he felt as he rocketed down the track as fast as the SVJ 2 would let him. He crossed into the third sector just before he began to brake, and heard Markko speak up again.

Beautiful lap so far, Abs. Finish the last sector well and you might take pole.”

“Thanks, Markko.”

It was not to be. Just as his season had started so well, only to crumble at the end, now his lap began coming apart. First he braked too soon going into turn ten, then his timing was just a bit off the whole way through turns thirteen to seventeen. The worst part was that Abdoulaye could feel it happening but was powerless to stop it. He crossed the line once more in the middle of the pack.

“That’s alright Abs,” Markko’s voice came through yet again. “You’re still in good position to push for points tomorrow.” But points wouldn’t be enough. Abdoulaye needed first.

With two races to go in the V&T Racer World Grand Prix 2 Pick 'em Game, Celebrity contestant Nikki Kater, playing under the handl @garbage_time, has opened up to a 51 point lead in the standings over fellow celebrity contestant @RustyIbuna71 of Filindostan. After a poor showing in Round 7 of the competition that was actually won by former international racer Louis Krindle of Eastfield Lodge, Kater posted a score of 46 in Round 8 of the Pick'em competition to solidify her spot atop the standings.

Kater's 46 point haul was the best of any competitor in any event all season long and attributed to her having all four of her Pick 'em entries in the top 10 during the Grand Prix d'Île Saint-Joseph including the top two finishers in the race, Sara Luna and Olivia Stone.

While the maximum possible score in any race is 68 points, Kater's 46 point performance is better than any score achieved thus far in the season and it would seem if she can maintain her advantage through the next event it is likely she will be crowned WGP2 Season champion. Anything can still happen however as with the scoring system heavily weighted towards the podium finishers, anyone inside the Top 10 of the current point standings could still easily enter the final race weekend within 68 points of the lead and within the mathematical realm of competing for the Grand Prize.

Users can still sign up for V&T Racers WGP2 Pick 'em Regular Season competition though will receive a score of 0 for any races already completed at the time they have signed up. For those users already signed up, changes can now be made to the submitted lineup at an increasing cost per change. Any change submitted to Vilita and Turori Racer will result in the deduction of points from that users total score as a cost for swapping one driver out for another in that same tier.

While it has been a season of struggles for VTM Tropicorp Engineering as well as Vilaye Energy Drink backed Vilita and Tuorrian driver Jama'obo Pegasii, there are still two events left on the schedule for the team to attempt to gain momentum for future seasons. With just 88 points left on the table, VTM Tropicorp Engineering have been officially eliminated from the Constructors Championship even if they were able to finish 1-2 in both remaining races. Likewise, with only 52 points available for drivers, neither Jama'obo Pegasii nor Cocoabo #23 are still within range of championship leader Olivia Stone of Schesa-VSK Viska racing, nor are their Valentian teammates Adriana Kowalski and Jolyn Helen Caulfield. Caulfield, in fact, sits at the bottom of the standings and is rumored to be in danger of losing her ride at VTM Tropicorp Engineering if she is unable to place on the podium at the Tavernia Park Circuit in Eastfield Lodge. VTM Tropicorp Engineering officials had reportedly been spotted meeting with Nepharim driver Kitti Armbruster who had showed some potential at mid-season testing and could be looking to the future in giving the 23 year old racer from Nephara a drive in the season finale in place of Caulfield who may have risked breach of contract rules by recently competing in an unsanctioned stock car race at the Yutzie River Raceway in Vilita - the Vilaye Energy Drink Clash.

Thus far, however, Caulfield has responded well to the rumors as she has qualified on the outside of the first row of the grid for the race in Eastfield Lodge alongside her countrymate Adriana Kowalski who qualified pole position for the Naval Corps racing team. Caulfield's teammate Cocoabo #23 also qualified inside the Top 5 as VTM Tropicorp Engineering appear to finally have found some speed - perhaps a little too late in the season to make a difference but there was always the prize of a checkered flag at the end of each race that would take the sting out of a difficult season for everyone back in Tropicoast.
