Oh look Hinode is starting slow again
by Steve Stevenson

Xanneria's bid for home glory got off to wonderful start. The Maroons took down a vaunted Hinode side 4-3 in front of 74,000 strong in Hawthorne. The hottest ticket in Xanneria saw the Maroons take a thoroughly convincing 4-1 lead before two goals were given up in garbage time to make the score look better than the game really was. With Glenn Hailey suggesting he might make it one more cycle, there's been a lot a pressure on the team to get him out on top. Devon'elle Laymore has been trying his best two help and he did so with one goal and an assist on the other three. Laymore scored 21 minutes in the give the Maroons a 1-0 lead and was seen as the leader in Hinode side of the field. We should say that possession was actually more towards Hinode, but the physicall style of play and chorus of boos that rung out when the Maroons didn't have the ball, really kept Hinode back. during the mid part of the game Laymore had his way against the Hinodjan team, regularly keeping up against the Hindode attack, sprinting from one part of the field to the other. He got a steal on Kotaro KATSURA, and passed to fellow striker Henry Clayton-Thorn who knocked one pass Myozan NAMEZONO. Namezono had a rough outing with four goals given up, we'll see how that does for the young pro player out of Osairus. One player who did impress was the young defender Matthias JÖNSSON. A centerback playing in Taeshan showed physical toughness more so than the other Hinodijans on the field and was seemingly the only defender who was able to get physical with the Xannerians. Of course now that has some of the scouts watering and may be looking at seeing Jonnson in a FLOX uniform soon.

Other prospects for Hinode that turned out well were Eneko TACHIBANA and Kalle HATTUNEN as far as forward attacking players go, they were staunch and if it wasn't for Dom Brabham being a complete stud the game could have been a Hinode win. Like with Jonsson, several scouts had good things to say about the pair, and with both players being attached to no team, it's another likelihood that the pair could also end up in a FLOX badged uniform. In the end after two goals in the last 5 minutes, it was Xanneria who came out on top, in fact the last goal was so late and such a lengthy shot, it was in the air when the clock hit 0:00. Dom Brabham later stated he would have blocked it had he know it would have a chance at going in. But again Xanneria is up in the CE and in front of the crowd it so very much loves. Next game will be in Marietta versus Cyene Isles.

Disheveled Lahou Outmuscled by Mattijana
It be like that sometimes

The Kingsford hate-train soars today with post-match intial reactions calling for Eli Kingsford to be sacked at the head of the Kwang-tzu national team, this comes after the Lahou who were expected to register a draw came out of a 3-nil embarrassing first lost to Mattijana for the first time since Campionato Esportiva 22. Now, yes, the team is rebuilding but that was downright embarrassing for the team which was expected to come out with its guns blazing, especially considering the firepower which it supposedly packed with it. Mattijana’s big win gave them the inside track to win the division, needing only another win against the Ross Isles to lock up a bid into the knockouts, meanwhile on the other hand, Kingsford’s boy are going to be looking to do some magic, needing tilts to slide their way versus Fhulgamous Peninsula and more importantly the Ross Isles who narrowly found a victory against the former yesterday. The road to the knockouts has gotten a bit rocky for the Lahou and odds on favorite to win the group, Mattijana seem to be surging despite little to no info on the team, an incredible run could likely be in the works for them if things continue for them as is.

”Clearly we didn’t want it enough,” Eli Kingsford reacted during his normal press conference following the match, speaking to media representatives from the South Quincy Union Post, ”we were presented with too many opportunities and didn’t take full advantage of what they offered and that’s props to them,” glancing as his scoresheet, ”No. 7 had two goals for them in the 74th minute? Something like that should’ve never happened, our backline has to communicate better to prevent mistakes like that. I’m looking at what we had out there today and that effort was terrible, it doesn’t envision the Kwang-tzu spirit, nor does it show who we are.” However, more than likely Kingsford’s going to need something more than examples of grandiose and passion to show that he deserved to be considered for the full-time job, he failed to make changes late in the game that likely would’ve prevented two goals, opting to bring in defensive sub in despite being down 2-nil in the 74th minute, fresh legs on offense probably would’ve helped, Acknowledging this mistake, Kingsford spoke to the media more, ”I probably should’ve changed somethings and over the next three days we’re going to really look at what we’ve got and make the necessary adjustments.”

Number 7 for Mattijana caused problems all game for the Lahou, mostly off of errors from Davis Clark who’s tracking back errors nearly cost a goal early on in the 12th minute when he got beat, if it weren’t for an offside call which clearly wasn’t, number 7 likely would’ve had three goals instead of two. Davis Clark’s stock probably shot down after that early mess up and it showed, he was subbed off in the 48th minute for Mason Randolph who managed the game out well for them. The backline needs to be tweaked though, Murdock Smith and Dennis Zhan are not gelling well together and miscommunication is to play for the goal in 90+6’ for Mattijana’s No. 20’s goal, a simple box out would’ve helped for Smith, however Zhan’s crash in from behind and failure to markup allowed the outlet pass to No. 20 as he found the back of the net. And looking at the bench, that right position is riddled with holes too, there’s not much Kingsford can do to plug that hole; Zi Yan is an unproven youth prospect with Azulon City as is Shu Jen, but Jen looks somewhat like she has a knack for what she’s doing. Assuming things don’t go well early on against Fhulgamous Union, expect her to come on as an early sub, like early early, because I don’t understand why Dennis Zhan made this team.

Honestly the glass is half full, because assuming Quincy can win out which is very much possible, they’ve put themselves with a spot in the knockout, but stumbling against either remaining team can really hurt their chances [and all but confirm Kingsford won’t be named as permanent manager – Qui.], but to be honest I feel fairly confident about our chances. There’s a reason why Kingsford was brought — in aside from the fact it was cheap.
call me razen.

Eleanor watched her team's tight loss with a surprising smile. This wasn't a frustrated manager so much so as a person with full knowledge of what the future would represent. The Nepharim was already used to uncertainty in the helm of the Hinodejin national team, she could recall the disaster that was the first half of qualifiers last World Cup, how people pointed her as a favourite to be sacked at the middle of the qualifiers. But then, things got better quickly and a team with little aspirations threw eggs on the faces of established nations of the sport, tripping all-mighty Vilita in a tournament before the World Cup, stole a point from South Covello and then introduced Free Republics to a wall, ending their aspirations of a World Cup. The trip did eventually end after Starblaydia scored a late goal in the Round of 16, but she had more or less convinced the Imperial Hinodejin Football Association that she had enough sway to her demands. Not asking for massive pay-rises also helped, she had read about how Val Kylx had been a literal bastard to the Sunrisians in his time as a manager and was now looking to avoid it. She also had read about the figure that was Nikolai Thorben, the Chromatik that the Hinodejin respected up until his eventual death.

This time, things were much, much different. The Campionato Esportiva hasn't been deemed a tournament as important, despite the Hinodejin success on it and the FA had decided to invest in the tournament as a training ground for their hopeful talent... and this time, Eleanor might have hit a jackpot on her role: she was in charge of just about the best class of former University stars in the shape of a national team. Choji Matsumono-Gide, the Black Panther of Somei-Yoshino University; Madonna McIntosh, the defensive general of KOS-MOS; Kavon Iperkova, Zora Institute's superstar; the Tachibana twins, the leaders of Basque University; Namezono, Sakata and Katsura, the three-headed monster of Imperial Forces and Ikki Tokei, the finest prospect of all of the Empire and the first star of Mido-Hinode University.

...

And yet Misa Kawakami and Kalle Hattunen scored, go figure.
Let the sun burn my eyes / Let it burn my back
At the beach / In my dreams / But you still

Mattijanan Roster and Information for Campionato Esportiva 25

The Story So Far

Despite a series of fairly average results in the World Cup, Mattijana have risen to the position of regional heavyweights within Esportiva. Successive bronze medals in the 20th and 21st tournaments were finally broken by a second-place finish in the 22nd addition, despite a 5-0 drubbing by Brenecia in the final. They finally claimed the big one last time round though, beating the same opposition by 2 goals to 1, winning their first tournament in the process. Despite missing key players, the squad backed up that result at CE 24, beating Damukuni in the third-place play off to win another bronze medal.

Despite continued regional success however, the country, including Dusan Vukoja's employers at the MattijanaFusBand, have become increasingly unhappy with Mattijana's dismal attempts at qualifying for a World Cup and despite a decent fist of it in which the team threw away their chances of a playoff with a 0-0 draw at lowly Saintland, Vukoja resigned before he got the chance to be sacked. There has been a hefty amount of turnover in the squad in recent months and the team has been rocked by the departure of all-time scorer Mathilde Lekarisa to birth-country Saint Émelie.

The left-field recruitment of FK Shalkar manager Zala Stefanidi, with her counter-attacking methods and unorthodox defensive tactics, raised eyebrows and the side's dismal showing at the 75th cup of harmony did nothing to improve the Mattijanan public's faith in the MattijanaFussBand (MFB). A good performance at the Campionato will therefore be vital in rebuilding a team that has almost come to expect a podium at its regional tournament.

Team Info

World Rank: 61
Esportivan Rank: 3
Style Modifier= -2
National Association: MattijanaFusbalBand (MFB)
Kits: Image

Formation

Head Coach: Zala Stefanidi

Assistant Manager: Dominik Samikov (FK Burges)

The assistant manager at Championship leaders FK Burges hails from the North-East of Mattijana and began his career at Dinamo Legisaw, another division 2 side before then moving as one of the tactical staff to FK Burges, where he has since worked his way up the pecking order to assistant manager. He has an excellent tactical mind as well as good player welfare skills and helps out Ljubanik in both management areas. He has so far proved himself to be a capable aid.

Head Scout: Marcel Kuzbacher

Marcel Kuzbacher is a seasoned scout, mainly plying his trade for the famed Puljanka Academy. He has links with numerous players in the Mattijanan squad as well as the under-21 side and makes up the 3-man selection panel alongside Samikov and Ljubanik.

Fitness Coordinator: Jelena Neumanič

Jelena Neumanič is responsible for the diet and fitness of the squad, freeing up the main management team to think about tactical matters. She has a solid variety of exercises and is well-known for getting on player's backs if they don't keep up with their expected effort levels.

Psychologist: Samira Kazmir

Samira Kazmir is an experienced sports psychologist who has done work for both the summer and winter Olympic teams, the Mattijanan ITT side and the MRT motor racing team. She is responsible for the mental welfare of players, stretching from the collective mind-set to more personal issues for each individual in the squad. It's a far-reaching and often complicated task.

The Medical Team:

Head Doctor: Dr Charlotte Smitič
Assistant Doctor: Dr Mattias Buranov
Physio: Martina Laramazič
Physio: Mika Glasnić

The Players:
GK-Lucija Handanovic-#12-Age 28-FK Revinka
Understudy to Matej Handanovic for most of Ljubanik’s tenure, Lucija is again favourite to start between the sticks for Mattijana in the upcoming qualifiers. The 25 year old has impressed for club side Revinka in the recent season with both solid performances and heroic clean-sheets and will be tricky to keep out of a starting place.

LB-Helena Neumann-#2

The Burges Player is a regular in the championship leading side and will provide a good defensive option with the occasional run forward to help out the wingers. Barring any injuries or unlikely suspensions, she will play all of Mattijana's matches,

CB- Rikard Illicić-#14
The first Mattijanan player to move abroad, specifically to the top division in Buyan, Illicić was widely expected to replace Edvard Crajasović in the starting lineup on the retirement of the ledgendary centre back and now has. He is modelled in a similar style as his predecessor too. He's big, he's strong and despite being slower than other defenders, he is able to stamp his authority on attackers with some gritty tackles.

CB-Katija Burnisevič-#4-Captain

Another Burges Player, Burnisevič is a potential answer to Crajasović's clumsiness and is a quick, skilful and sure-footed player capable of taking the fight to those attempting to run through. She is a dedicated player, happy to chase any lost cause until the ball crosses the line. Her lack of physical strength may be her weakness however and she could be a potential target for more powerful strikers.

RB-Kevin Krychowiak-#13-Age 24-Matbirjke
Another promotion from the under 23s, Krychowiak is a typical modern full-back with his pace and attacking mindset. Having succeeded Dominik Illisevic as first-choice full-back last cycle, he will need to build on some shaky performances against the pace that the world has to offer if he is to retain his place on the teamsheet.

LM-Sophia Velezia-#16
A mazy winger with less raw pace, but the ability to turn any defender into a messy knot, Velezia is a constant challenge to keep quiet on her day and normally gets through at some point if she hits top form. Her mercurial nature is her biggest and arguably only weakness, but Mattijana will be well-placed if she can get it together.

CM-Marko Hojbjerg-#7

Now a mainstay of the team at the age of 27, Hojbjerg is a playmaker with good awareness and passing ability and is the perfect fit for Ljubanik's technical brand of football. Useful for connecting the more attacking players ahead of him, he is also integral in providing the start or the killer pass in a counter-attack. When no forward options are available, he's not afraid to hit one and occasionally finds the back of the net from improbable ranges.

CM-Katarina Jakupovic-#15
Former captain of Mattijana’s under-23 side, Jakupovic is a part of Vukoja’s turn to a more attractive style with Jago Adrianov, the midfield enforcer out and the instinctive passer promoted to a starting role. The 25 year-old Snezn player has impressed with both her technique and maturity in the early years of her career and is touted as a future Mattijanan captain after a successful run in the Under-23s.

RM-Jessika Struna-#9

A pacey winger who's preferred play is to make a run and then a cross, the 28 year old Struna is a dynamic and different part of the Mattijanan team. Tipped for a move to Petrovijanka or Burges, Struna chose to stay at Revinka, close to her family and in the town she loves.

CAM-Mattias Hoffman-#8-Age 26-Rapid Petrovijanka
Hoffman established himself as an impact player during the 79th cycle, scoring twice from the bench and making a substitute appearance in 15 of the 18 games. He offers a dynamic and direct approach when required and has cut open tired defences on a number of occasions. His consistency across longer periods has so far kept him out of the first team, but he remains a very useful and versatile player for Vukoja.

FW- Kara Lorenzič, age 24, Matbirjke

With Mathilde Lekarisa departing the Mattijanan setup in favour of the warmer climes of Saint Émelie, Matbirjken youngster Kara Lorenzič has been thrown into the starting line up for Mattijana. The pacey, direct forward was introduced on numerous occasions during World Cup qualifying and played reasonably well, offering a threat from the incisive through balls of the midfield and the testing low crosses of her wingers. Despite that, she is still young and the shoes of record scorer Lekarisa are big ones to fill.

The Bench:
GK-Matej Handanović-#1
The 31 year old Mattijanan number 1 plays under Matej Ljubanik at FK Petrovijanka and has been a solid, if unspectacular option between the sticks for most of his career. He has good handling skills and makes few mistakes, but could be replaced if he fails to make the spectacular stops expected of him. He may also face renewed competition from the younger and more dynamic Martin Vaskaric.

RB-Dominik Illisević-#5

Now a regular for FK Puljanka, Illisević is a punchy and pacey player with outstanding fitness and good crossing ability. His defensive technique is the biggest question mark, but if he can have a solid match at the back, he will undoubtedly be a danger coming forward.

CB-Ana Sevastova-#27-Age 22-FK Snezn

Young north-easterner Sevastova is the stereotypical centre-back from her region. Tall, strong and tough as ice, she has worked her way into the starting line-up at Snezn and with the retirement of Edvard Crajasovic, has now earned herself a call-up to the national side. Provided Illicic and Burnisevic remain fit and reasonable in form, she probably won't make too many appearances this cycle, but is certainly one for the future.

LM-Sofiane Bisrali-#6
From the less familiar setting of Shalkar in the South-East, Bisrali has the pace and skill that Vukoja is looking for in his wingers. Replacing the mercurial Sophia Velezia in the starting line-up, the 24 year old has a lot to live up to early in his career, but has the chance to do it on the biggest stage.

CAM-Juliana Kjofmann-#22-Age 26-Weststrand FK

Kjofmann, heralding from the windy climes of the Mattijanan west coast, has learned how to play with the ball on the deck and has made her strengths count at local team WestStrand. She might not pull off all her passes, but the ones she gets right will be enough to cause problems for any opposing defence.

FW-Andreas Weiss-#11

The 32 year old Burges Striker has been a fixture in the Mattijanan team for a while now and has matched his performances for the national side with consistent scoring form for FK Burges. He is a poacher with the ability to be in the right place at the right time for any pull-back into the box. Also a good header of the ball, Weiss will be an intimidating target for high crosses if the Mattijanan plan-B is needed.

ST-Daniella Alaba-#18-Age 28-Puljanka
It is difficult to tell where Alaba's strengths really lie as she is relatively quick, but not lightening fast and despite good strength, she is no match for more bulky defenders. Where she is effective is as a goal poacher, using positioning to find space to latch onto crosses and loose balls from fairly close range.

The Reserves:

GK-Martin Vaskaric-#19-Age 23-FK Antalja
LB-Lara Ljunavic-#20-Age 29-FK Revinka
CM-Jasmina Kovac-#24-Age 21-Ljubala FK
FW-Matej Jokic-#26-Age 20- FK SavaFluss

About Mattijana!

Mattijana is a large safe nation in Esportiva with a significant, but proportionate population. It spans a fairly large range of climates with the far north a colder area, the central region temperate, the south Mediteranean and the South-East semi-desert. Petrovijanka, the setting for this competition, is located almost exactly in the centre of the country at 214-232 metres above sea level. It has summer highs of around 28°C and lows of -5°C in the winter. There is a high level of sunshine for most of the year with precipitation mostly snowfall in the winter months.

Culturally, Mattijana can also be divided into six regions. The West of the country is largely Germanic whilst the centre North is a mix of Slavic and Germanic cultures, centred around Mattijana's second city, Burges. The North and East are more Scandinavian and speak Dansk, a language similar to Danish. The Centre (where Petrovijanka is situated) and the South are Slavic (similar to the Slovenian and Croatian cultures). There is an Arabic community in the South-East.

All Mattijanans speak the official language, Mattijanan. However, due to this not being spoken anywhere else in the World, English and German are well-spoken throughout the country whilst Arabic is taken on by the most intelligent students (in addition to English and German) as well as by those in the South-East.
There is no official religion in Mattijana due to this mix of cultures. Islam is popular in the South-East and parts of the South whilst some in the East follow the Mattijanan Orthodox church. Most people hold no religious belief, but believe in the universal philosophy of being kind, welcoming and helpful to others, known nationally as Jelenara. Even in religious communities, it is these principals that are most talked of with religious figures used to preach them.
Due to the mix/match nature of Mattijanan cultures and these philosophies, religious symbols are uncommon and religious tolerance is very high.

Attitudes to drink and sex are fairly liberal whilst there is good gender, sexual and racial equality. Social mobility is also good and the rich earn only twice as much as the poorest. Cannabis and similar recreational drugs are banned by law, with cannabis also forbidden for medical use.

The government follows mildly socialist policies meaning the tax rate is fairly high, but schools, hospitals and other public services are all well-funded and either free or reasonably-priced. Taxes on large businesses are higher than on small ones. The government building is the MattiStaja, which is situated on Staja square in the centre of Petrovijanka. All six regions have their own smaller congresses however. Politicians are generally appreciated and although public decisions are limited to elections and important political decisions where the main population is the most affected, most citizens feel well represented due to the numerous meeting and discussion opportunities with their local politician.
All parties follow a similar philosophy, but mainly disagree on where to fund the most. The MattijanaLeušaBuro is the current elected party and have an emphasis on public services, but other popular parties are the ViroBuro (who generally promote the needs of the environment) and the NašinalBuro (who promote funding for employment opportunities).

5-0 win easy start for Jillianna, Enomoto scores
Staff Report

Jillianna Rodríguez had no problems with her début in Xanneria with a 2-goal explosion along striking partner Jiah Leeds as they stormed against Hampton Island with what might be the easiest team on their schedule.

The 5-0 win, at Tundra Falls, Newmanistan, will prove instrumental for the Football Legends, who recently made a statement with their advancement to the previous Cup of Harmony final. Although they lost out to Main Nation Ministry, the team did not drop a game within the CoH campaign itself.

The highlight of the game was when keeper Shoryū Enomoto came out into the field in the 83rd minute, lumbered his 210-pound body after the ball, and aimed a perfect shot at the left-side upper 90 against a very confused goalie, who could only watch in abject horror as the ball sailed past him, and when it touched the net, he started inconsolably sobbing. He collapsed in abject sorrow and had to be carried off the field.

The Hamptonians were unavailable for comment, so no one knows if that goalie will ever play a minute of international football again.

The Football Legends (1-0, 1st in Group 1) play what might be the most challenging game in their schedule, hosts Newmanistan (1-0, 2nd in Group A), in Jessicaville next.

BIG WIN PUTS DREAMPLANET TOP

Image

4 different goalscorers put Dreamplanet top of Group 5.

Luis Silva, Paulo Figueiredo, Jorge Cardozo and Aaron Hungar all got a goal as Dreamplanet smashed Thalamascia to get their first win of the campaign and put Os Tricores in a good spot, top of the group with 2 more goals than Apox.

Dreamplanet were vast favourites to win the match and Luis Silva would stamp their authority early on with a thunder blaster of a shot from a long way out, Amphitryon Michaelides was unable to even move for the ball, Paulo Figueiredo would be there to double the lead for Dreamplanet in just 7 minutes, a simple tap-in as a result of being in the right place at the right time after a pass by Aaron Hungar, following that came a grace period in which Thalamascia did have some shots, although not good enough to trouble Filipe Vaz until Luis Silva concluded his brace in the 39th minute with a bullet header, towering past the defence and it was a simple goal for his standards, Dreamplanet held a 3-0 lead at the break.

In the second half Jorge Cardozo would convert a corner in an unusual way, his cross was swept into the net by the wind, not actually touching anyone else as it went in, it may be a fluke but it could perhaps be the goal of the tournament, Dreamplanet were looking forward to setting a new highest win ever with a 5 goal margin but Patroclus Remis dashed those hopes with a good header from a corner, getting a consolation team for the ultimately-doomed Thalamascia, Aaron Hungar would eventually get Dreamplanet's 5th with a good finished volley, maybe Dreamplanet couldn't get a new largest win but they could tie it, that was until Remis' second goal from a distracted Dreamplanetian defence, giving Dreamplanet 3 points from a 3 goal win margin.

Dreamplanet will face Bongo Johnson in the very last group stage day, Dreamplanet will be through with a draw or a win, the road is clear for Dreamplanet, just don't lose and you'll be fine.

In other news:
FC LIBON - Q-BEE HONEYAME FRIENDLY ABANDONED

The friendly with good intentions between FC Libon and Q-Bee Honeyame played in Misei was abandoned in the 19th minute shortly following the first goal by Q-Bee Honeyame player June Gardot as the Dreamplanetian FC Libon fans rioted against the martial-arts-trained Hinodejin Q-Bee Honeyama fans in battles that lasted throughout the night as the Dreamplanetians are never one to back down from a fight and Hinodejins having compulsory training. The actions have already been condemned by both Hinodejin and Dreamplanetian governments, things have escalated so much that a public meeting between Dreamplanetian President Michael Smith and Hinodejin Empress Satomi II has been confirmed to take place in Misei in a few days.

In the lead-up to the match there was a reportedly tense atmosphere as the Hinodejins kept their composure (maybe as a result of Hinodejins not knowing Portuguese) but the Dreamplanetians kept chanting abuse and offensive chants about Kita-Hinode such as "wide-eyed catf***ers" and occasionally throwing objects at Hinodejin players that neared the stands, specially during corner kicks, hell finally broke loose after an aggressive atmosphere when June Gardot scored from a corner kick, heading in a good cross and the FC Libon fans rioted in anger at the goal conceded, picking a fight with the nearest Hinodejin fans after breaking the protective fencing, engaging with fights even with police as the referee telling the players to go back to the tunnel, eventually as the match was abandoned and awarded as a 3-0 win to Q-Bee Honeyame there was fighting in the streets with just about everything, while flares and rocks were common objects, knives were also confiscated by Hinodejin police shortly before the match.

The fights in the streets lead to multiple injuries on both sides with a few Hinodejins and Dreamplanetians having to be taken to hospital in a critical condition, this scare has become more and more elevated that it has escaped the realms of sport and into politics, nobody knows what to expect as the nation is on edge, growing more and more resentful of these people that we barely know, it is anyone's guess as to how this will end.

UPDATE (29/10/2005, 15:20 DPT) - Confirmed by the family, Dreamplanetian native and FC Libon supporter Peter Smith has been confirmed dead earlier this morning in Misei, he was deemed innocent and just a fan caught up in the brutal fighting in the streets, he had wanted to see a FC Libon game with his Hinodejin friends in Kita-Hinode and went despite the increased danger levels, his motive is death was not disclosed by the family. The other Hinodejins and Dreamplanetians that had been reported in a critical condition were all cleared and even some of them were imprisoned.

This needless casualty is highlighting that this scare has gone well out of hand if, if it hasn't already, if this Dreamplanetian was able to befriend Hinodejins despite their differences, why can't we?

Xanneria Takes Charge!
by Steve Stevenson

MARIETTA - Playing against a new opponent with a long tradition and possible hangovers from a huge upset victory, it might be easy to see an upset happening in the second matchday of Campionato Esportiva. But no, it ended with a much much more through trashing. A 5-1 victory over Ceyene Isles saw ledgend Glenn Hailey get another Hat trick for his illustrious international career and his brother Mark add to his PK totall. Playing in front of a capacity crowd of 60,000 cheer the maroons on and the droning of the crowd may have scared the rival Ceyne Isles a touch. Glenn Hailey, who went goaless in the matchup versus Hinode, saw his chance early and often against the Isles. 10 minutes in and Hailey had a break away and recieved a pass from brother mark that went far over the head of Anna St. Preux nut just under the crossbar. It would be another Hailey Penelty Kick and a goal by unassuming Pete Saigon that put the Maroons up 3-0 in the first third of the game. Ceyne did try to close it up with a long range snipe from Sophia Fortune that may contend for goal of the tourniment. But with two additional goals by Hailey the game was put away and put away throughly. No soft defense that nearly bit the Maroons in game one. In the end a thoroughly dominative win as the Maroons march on to face ol' rival Peru. With homefield maybe this is the year they finally destroy Peru!

Domestic News

One of the more interested news issues that has been coming out of Xanneria in regards to football is the transfer window opening and for the first time we're seeing teams grab players outside of the Big Six sphere. The climate of Xannerian football has been that of a "Boys Club" where it seems you see the same 7 teams in the top 7. So now some smaller teams have gone after internationals in the Free Agent market. Among the most notable are former Cosumar national Tiffany Elam. Elam who is 36, has signed on for the Myrtle Wanderers as a player coach. She gets the benefit of playing in the popular tourist destination of Myrtle, and an automatic coaching gig when she retires. But more importantly she is leading a brigade of ladies who are turning FLOX into a co-ed league. Multiple females have signed with teams in Xanneria, oddly all Beta and Alpha league squads. Nepharian striker Patches Rathborune will lead a Waddell Northerners team looking to pull out of the shadows of the big brother in the east (Austin City). Anni Levi and her siblings Julius and Noah are now the Midfield in Nortonshaw as that team tries to break free of the strings that hold it back (namely the shared stadium). Bonesean-Hindoijan player Euphenia Croft-Blue takes aim at bringing Inter Bennington into the forefront of both Beta League and Omega League prominence. Meanwhile an unlikely signing from an unlikely team. St Geoffreystown United of all people signed the first non-human player in the history of FLOX when they signed Jremen Vyyner to play Right Mid. A long and lanky Satyr from Mriin's University of Archery, it's somewhat appropriate since the famous Arch of St Geoffreystown looms over the stadium. But its that stadium that also is why St Geoffs has been stuck in Beta league purgatory as the turf scares away big free agents till now. Even a couple big clubs went looking internationally. Bustip Newman of Audioslavia is headed to Austin City and Glaxy SC took a couple of Hinodijan players to shore up that defense that infamously collapsed last season. So it will be fun to see if the bigger programs start to look abroad to catch up with the smaller ones.

Jillianna explodes again in 5-2 win over hosts
Staff Report

The city of Jessicaville played host to an empty home stand for the second half as Jillianna Rodríguez shined her leading lights on a visibly stunned Ryan McNamara's goal during a 5-2 rout of the hosting Rockets by the Football Legends.

The Legends, up three-zip at the half, watched from the bench as most of the Newmanistan fans got up and left the stadium, wondering as to why they were leaving after such a good football clinic was on display. At the 79th minute, leading four-zip, Shoryū Enomoto pounced on the goal again with the ball just like he had against the Hamptonians, to roars of joy and excitement from the visiting stands that could be heard throughout the city due to the reverberations of the stadium.

Despite two late goals by Jerome Beyer (83') and Antonio Cruz (90+1'), the latter of which was due to Enomoto standing in the corner and watching as his defense tried to stop the attacker, knowing the game was all but over, the Rockets crumbled at the final whistle and were left soul-searching after the Football Legends' earth-shattering performance, their first recorded win over Newmanistan's national team.

The Football Legends (2-0, 1st-Group 1) advance to the knockout round, but have one final match against Ancherion (1-1, 2nd/GD-Group 1) in Pocono City. Wy Katchm is expected to start at goal due to Enomoto getting benched by manager Julián Rosé. No booking was issued against standing in the corner of the field, but many believe this benching was administrative punishment.

Rosé and other administrative representatives from the Damukuni FA were unavailable for comment.

(OOC: Jillianna scored at 16', 24', 45+1', and 57'.)

DREAMPLANET ADVANCES WITH VENGEANCE BECKONING

Image

Dreamplanet 2nd on GD but comfortably through.

Tough match, yet it was just good enough for Os Tricores to safely progress to the next round, even Miguel Benedito scored on his return to the main squad after the U21 team's brilliant run to the Quarter-Finals.

As per usual, Dreamplanet commanded the first half, being more efficient than Bongo Johnson, who themselves were fighting directly for qualification, only a win would suffice for them, their work was about to become even harder when Luis Silva scored in the 29th minute, this time not a free kick, a penalty or a bullet header, just a simple tap-in after Aaron Hungar distracted his defender and was able to give it to his unmarked colleague, and it stood 1-0 to Dreamplanet at half time with Os Tricores looking very comfortable, as Thalamascia was surprisingly holding Apox 0-0 at the break, they were even top of the group.

In the second half, it was more even as Dreamplanetian football tends to be, Bongald would go on to break through and give Bongo Johnson half a chance of making it through to the next round, this result still didn't favour them as Dreamplanet only needed a draw, the goal that Bongo Johnson almost needed was so close to happening too, Horatio Caine saw his rebound effort from a corner just cleared off the line by Fransisco Jorge who was marking the post, eventually Miguel Benedito on his first game this tournament as a result of his Di Bradini Cup appearance scored from a cross to give Dreamplanet back the lead, it ended up being the last goal in the match and Dreamplanet celebrated yet another appearance in the knockouts.

To everyone's shock, Dreamplanet will face Kita-Hinode in the First Round, the animosity between both countries has only been growing and as this reaches full circle with yet another match at the Campionato Esportiva, this is sure to be an electrifying match but there will always be the likelihood of this match spiralling out of control, but yet we want revenge for the Campionato Esportiva 24 final, this is our moment to stamp ourselves forward and keep the dream going, Dreamplanet is not going down without a fight in Xanneria.

In other news:
HINODEJIN-DREAMPLANETIAN RELATIONS DETERIORATE FURTHER, TALKS UNSUCCESSFUL

Following everything that has happened this week, Hinodejin Empress Satomi II and Dreamplanetian President Michael Smith agreed to a televised meeting in Misei where the FC Libon vs Q-Bee Honeyama match took place that went out of control, it was meant to ease hostilities but it ended up in ramping up hostilities even further as this has escalated into a political problem aswell.

The culture clash couldn't be greater, the Empress has been described as "a rough person" that won her position via trial by combat, a regular thing in Kita-Hinode and our President simply got into power after winning a close election, when it came to the meeting, Empress Satomi II offered Michael Smith a handshake which he snubbed, maybe he was advised to do so by his bodyguards or it was just a plain display of disrespect, either way the meeting had already started off awkwardly, it got back on track with both leaders acknowledging and condemning the events that happened in Misei and Libon and called for an end to the hostilities... Which fell on deaf ears as soon as Empress Satomi II demanded an apology from Michael Smith on behalf of the entire Dreamplanetian population, as she is very protective of her people and already she seemed to harbour some resentment for Michael Smith and Dreamplanetians.

President Smith quickly declined to offer an apology citing that this was a "fanatic issue" rather than a problem with the entirety of Dreamplanet, going on to say that "we protect free speech tirelessly, if someone wants to complain about cat-people, they can" and then going on to be educated by Empress Satomi II as she emphasised that those "cat-people" have a name, that being "Nekojin" and that they've been citizens of the empire since its' establishment, going on to insinuate that Dreamplanets are merely being insecure around them. Once again, this was quickly refuted by President Michael Smith, saying that Dreamplanetians are "brave, combative people that wouldn't be insecure against lesser beings such as literal cat-people" in what seemed like an escalation, Empress Satomi II heard enough and shockingly challenged Michael Smith to a "clean" fight in which he agreed, not one to be dwarfed by foreign heads-of-state, unfortunately for him and Dreamplanetian political image, going ahead with this spur-of-the-moment decision that was definitely not advised by his bodyguards, his best attempts were not able to match Empress Satomi II's in any form, despite leaving some wounds and a cut, he was eventually knocked out cold and had to be escorted out in a meeting that was shorter than expected and took an unexpected turn.

With the President confirmed to be in a good status, already opposition have been calling for his impeachment as they fear for his mental and physical well-being potentially getting worse after this skirmish with the Hinodejin Empress, both nations have become further apart politically and athletically, the safety of Dreamplanetians abroad is no longer guaranteed as the image of Dreamplanet has been tarnished by Dreamplanetians themselves, maybe this is beyond paranoia now and this is just part of Dreamplanetian self-defence, a self-defence tactic that has made things even more awry than they already were, Esportivan powers will have to consider their stance on this ever-spiralling situation.

It had been two months since news that Apoxian forces had landed on the island of Teol, the first step in liberating in the troubled archipelago. The skill of the Apoxian forces had been too much for the Mareibat Freedom Militia to contend with, and the assault had not been a long one. From their forward operating base in the village of Cove, the Apoxian forces had quickly encircled and captured MFM bases and strongholds throughout the island.

It then took two days for the assorted Dwile regiments to take all of the island except for the dual capital of Teol-Donaghue, where fierce fighting erupted, with the Apoxian-Mareibatian combined forces sustaining moderate losses in attempting to take the capital, at least half of which was destroyed in the firefight. However, on the fourth morning of the fight, soldiers from the 1st Armoured Regiment and the 1st Dwile regiment stormed the town hall and captured the leader of the MFM, John de Vickers.

While the Dwile regiments were taking control on Teol, the 1st, 5th and 6th Gwinevra regiments and the 1st and 2nd Urbanista regiments landed on Bellight, half of the forces landing in the village of Semper and the other half in the town of Cape of Hope in the east of the island. The troops in the west took Semper with relative ease and the proceeded to secure the western part of the island. The 2nd Urbanista regiment struggled though in the midst of dug in positions along the coastline at the Cape of Hope, before the big guns of the A.S Marshall bombarded the defensive positions into submission.

With the remains of the Bellight People's Army withdrawing for the final fight in the capital of Bellight, everyone watching, from the Mareibatian people in the midst of the action, to watching Apoxians and other interested parties from afar knew that the game would soon be up. The insurrection in Mareibat would soon be quashed, and a more aggressive action was sanctioned by high command in Halholzer (although this order was largely pushed for by the Apoxian government who were keen to bring to an end the heaviest of the fighting in a controversial war). The Apoxian troops surrounded the capital Bellight, and demanded that civilians be allowed to leave before the final assault. Despite attempts by the People's Army to prevent the loss of a protective layer of human shields, they left in their thousands before a brutal barrage fell on the capital which was immediately followed up by the armour supported assault.

Despite digging in, the People's Army had been significantly blunted by the assault from both the Apoxian navy and airforce and soon the flag of Mareibat replaced the grey and white of the People's Army over the heavily damaged city hall. The victory was complete for the Apoxian forces but it had taken it's toll on both sides. In Mareibat, as well as the second and third biggest islands being in an even more precarious state that prior to the fighting, the main island was also unbalanced despite any fighting occurring there.

Imperator Jhon Cossack had been removed from the imperial palace and stripped of his titles, with a promise of free and fair elections soon to come - a first for the small nation. However, many were angered by the heavy handed approach of the Apoxian forces and feared that this would be another occupation eventually leading once again to being colonised by the much larger Esportivan nation. Others were keen to move on, but the nation had been in a poor state prior to the fighting and would now require serious and sustained investment to be properly developed into something better than a failed state. In Apox, the Green government of Matthias Sindelar had been seen to have abandoned many of it's principles and there were growing calls from the Free Party in opposition and the smaller coalition partners ANP for Sindelar to step down and another election to be held - only two years after the last one.

The Empress yawned, returning to her throne, checking the bandaging around her left foot. A couple of minutes earlier, she had used said foot to kick a foreign president in the jaw. She crossed her arm, examining the room she was in. Misei was the gateway of the Hinodejin Empire to the dimension where the other nations laid and by all accounts, wasn't a bad place. It was a bit annoying to have her throne move from one dimension to the other but costumes mandated that she had to do so.

For the most part, the Empress was annoyed. The Hinodejin saw themselves as peaceful and relaxed regarding foreign relations but this was a first. They swore themselves not to go to war with anyone in the future but that little stunt regarding such a valuable part of Hinodejin society was simply intolerable: they might not be humans, but the Nekojin race is not composed of second-rate citizens or some sort of aberration for some folk outside of the border to point and laugh. They should know well that the offers made by the people of Project Olimpo weren't an act of aggression.

The Empress made some small recommendations to the governor of Misei: prepare the Pokémon Brigade for possible attacks towards the province, perform border security checks and, if they did attack in any way, to make sure to call her. The mighty of the Hinodejin Empire didn't desire to reveal itself over some lack of ability from the people of another place to properly understand people, but if it was needed, she wouldn't have a problem with teaching everyone some respect.

Maroons exorcise demons against Peru
by Steve Stevenson

Image
The Hailey brothers celebrate a goal

MARIETTA,GALLIBURTON - When Xanneria burst on the scene, they took the world by storm winning only the second tourinment they entered. Going into the WC Qualifiers it looked certain they would push the bigger more established teams to the brink. But it wasn't so as on their first game of qualifiers they got upended by New and Improved Peru. Perus blitzed the team 5-1 in the opener and 3-2 in the return trip. It was an embarrassment for the Maroons, fresh of their win in the BoF. While they did become stronger in the next couple years by taking a group win in the CE XXIV, and now after finally winning versus Peru, they won their group in CE XXV. A through beating of Peru 5-3 left no doubt who not only the best team in the group but was the top seed heading into the play offs. A bye and a matchup against either Racing or Copper Cuprum will await.

Unfortiantely this did come at a cost. Dom Brabham a goalkeeper who has kept Xanneria in games and made several fun looking dives, injured his shoulder in the game. Evan Jefferson will take over in goal, but more importantly is the player who got called up. Lynette Jennetter will be the reserve goalkeeper for the Maroons in the playoffs, the 21 year old from the Unversity of Agnew had one of the greatist female college seasons in goal, and now she even signed a deal with her hometown St Geoffreystown United, becoming one of only a handful of female players in FLOX.

Speaking of which, FLOX is still going under huge changes. Notably we're starting to see some movement from the "boys' club teams". Most free agent and transfer signings have been brough on with lower level teams such as Nortonshaw and Inter Bennington, but recently Austin City signed Audioslavian Bustip Newman. The big transfer though happened on Richmond Street. Hawthorne Kickers gotten a transfer on Recuen national Hippolyte Lavigne. This comes shortly after long time team sponsor "Ukrops" bought into the team giving the third Hawthorne team a chance at more $$$ and a shot at big name players, this after they finally got promoted back to the Omega league in 2025.

In Rozelle, it was easy to find oneself in a bubble.
There was a reason why Rozelle had sometimes been known as the Jewel of Nephara, back in the old days. Compared to the sturdy, workmanlike shelters of the mainland, Rozelle's high, aspirational spires marked a defiant contrast. The Nepharim legions who had conquered this land may have destroyed the flower of Brenecian royalty, root and branch, but they'd apparently liked buildings. Gardens, too. For all Brenecia's dismal climate, the land around and within Rozelle was lush. It was not hard to tell that the mediaeval Brenecians had not been a warlike people.
Rozelle was Brenecia's largest city, capital, cultural centre and beating heart. Sure, the cost of living was ruinously expensive by Brenecian standards. But if you could afford the house, the transit, the bills, the hipster haircut and the lattes to sip with your equally well-groomed friends, you had a lovely, lively city with which to share your correct opinions with the correct people.
It was hard to remember that North Hall existed. Back under the days of General Bowyer's dominion, she had reigned from the fortress of North Hall, raking in the cashflow from the surrounding mines. It had made for a natural industrial centre. But what happened once the industry was gone? They could look over with envy at Stahlburg across the Greater Brine, a city revitalised through investment, cracks papered over by UBI. There were a few attempts at something similar in Hall, but for the most part, it was haves against have-nots. There, Prime Minister Ward's promises of security held somewhat more weight. But then, she'd fulfilled her mandate. Brenecia was safe, and thank God for that - it had been worth the disappearance of a few subversive elements. Now it was time for the next step.
The picture was brighter, somewhat, in Westpike. Industry was dying, but people still needed fish, and the Greater Brine held an endless supply. There was still some residual fondness for the old country, still a few Rooks and Cathelines and Teutonic surnames floating around. There, they sought solace in the firebrand, Catherine Bardsley - an old soldier to Clarisse Ward's young(ish) warrior. Someone with no less complete a confidence in her vision, but it was a vision coloured by the wounds of the past. Ward had shot fascists, a snippet of information she repeated constantly whenever she was accused of becoming one herself; Bardsley had been their plaything. She was a fighter; the people of Westpike could get behind that.
Falkner in the south coast and Marque in the east; there, too, was a newfound hope for the future. And even in the inner ring, sheltered from the promise of the coast but outside the glamour of Rozelle, there was a sense that the worst was past. People no longer had to worry about if tomorrow would come; the challenge was back to putting food on the table when it came. One that Brenecia had always struggled with. In Twin Saints, in Ridgeway, across the sprawling Rathia, people began to talk of progress. Progress! Yes, the message Bardsley brought; not fear, not revenge, but hope for the future. It wasn't national security that needed to be overhauled, it was the welfare of the Brenecian people. Anyone the Progressives had thrown at Ward in the past who had dared preach the same message had been dismissed as a weakling, but Bardsley... she had scars. And she knew what it meant to be Brenecian; she'd taken the nation to World Cups, for fuck's sake!
The election was coming! Each booth in the rural regions would have a couple armed guards on patrol, sure, but that was just the new normal. It could still be an exciting time to be Brenecian.

And for Clarisse Ward's inner circle, this would not do.
Didn't these idiots know the barbarians were still at the gates? Didn't they know stability meant everything? And that integral to keeping that stability was the well-compensated employment of many shady men in sharp suits and questionable oversight...
No. This narrative of happy days and sunshine would be their doom. It couldn't stand. If it did, that damned reformer would sweep away all the good - from a certain perspective - Ward had accomplished...
So plans were made. Plans to remind the good folk of Brenecia of the threats they'd trusted Ward to handle. They were still needed.
And giving that little shit Bardsley a scare might do her a world of good, as well...
Puppet of Nephara.

STILL THE SAME OLD STORY

Image

Dreamplanet crash out to Kita-Hinode once more.

In a true display of groundhog day, Dreamplanet's tender dreams were crushed by Kita-Hinode, but this time it was infuriating as Dreamplanet were so close to eliminating their new rival, and as grievances continue to grow, this defeat only makes things worse as tempers get hotter and hotter.

Uncharacteristically, Dreamplanet's first half was rather weak, maybe the nerves got into them but they seemed to have a better time at trying to tackle Hinodejin players off the ball and off the pitch as the players and atmosphere was tense, the referee had to separate players multiple times and things got worse for Os Tricores when Misa Kawakami scored in the 13th minute, with the cheering Hinodejins quickly getting drowned out by the sound of booing Dreamplanetians, however Dreamplanet was able to stop the bleeding and only go into the first half one goal down.

In the second half, Luis Silva was able to inspire a comeback, striking the ball into the bottom left corner to level the match, this standstill would only last for 15 minutes when Kotaro Katsuma was just able to poke a cross into the box with his leg, even that didn't last long as just 9 minutes left, Luis Silva was back with a crossed goal of his own, heading it in this time, the match looked poised to go into extra time until Kotaro Katsuma became the Hinodejin hero, scoring 6 minutes from the end to eliminate Dreamplanet in a very upsetting match that saw conflicts, arguments and all inbetween throughout.

Dreamplanetians immediately took to showing their displeasure after their defeat even on the streets of Xanneria, things have spiralled to such an extent that any Hinodejin was gonna be targets for harassment and attacks, the cops have also been criticised for being slow to react, this is not going to end well as this defeat rubbed salt into the wounds.
Dreamplanet 2 - 3 Kita-Hinode
(Luis Silva 50', 76' - 13' Misa Kawakami, 65', 84' Kotaro Katsuma)

TODAY'S PRESENTATION HAS BEEN PRE-EMPTED BY A SPECIAL REPORT FROM N.B.C. DAMUKUNI, A 790MEDIAGROUP COMPANY.

AT 8:30 AM TODAY, DAMUKUNI EASTERN TIME, THE REPUBLIC OF DREAMPLANET IS NO MORE. SOURCES SAY THAT A HINODEJIN INVASION FORCE HAS STORMED THE NATION THROUGH THE ACCESS OF AN INTERDIMENSIONAL PORTAL GATE BETWEEN THE HINODEJIN EMPIRE AND ESPORTIVA. BEFORE THE INVASION, THE EMPIRE OWNED LAND TO THE NORTH OF THE CONTINENT. CASUALTIES HAVE NOT BEEN CONFIRMED, BUT OFFICIAL SOURCES ESTIMATE IN THE THOUSANDS. AN INVESTIGATION IS CURRENTLY UNDERWAY, CONDUCTED BY THE SOUTH ESPORTIVA TREATY ORGANIZATION, RELATING TO THE CAUSE OF THE INVASION. THOUSANDS OF DREAMPLANETIANS HAVE FLOCKED TO THE M-199 BORDER CROSSING IN NORTH EAST STATE; THE DAMUKUNIAN GOVERNMENT HAS AGREED TO LET THE DREAMPLANETIANS IN. THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY (OOC: our equivalent of FEMA) HAS INTERRED THOUSANDS OF DREAMPLANETIAN REFUGEES IN RESETTLEMENT FACILITIES WITHIN THE NORTH EAST STATE, IRUKO STATE, NORTHERN FREE STATE, AND REISHU CIRCUIT, WITH PLANS UNDERWAY TO PERMANENTLY RESETTLE, REUNITE, AND NATURALIZES CITIZENS OF THE FORMER COUNTRY WITHIN DAMUKUNIAN BORDERS. IN ADDITION, THE DAMUKUNIAN GOVERNMENT IS COORDINATING A REUNIFICATION EFFORT FOR DREAMPLANETIANS WITHIN NEW NORTH AQMULAND, WITH DETAILS TO FOLLOW. THE DAMUKUNIAN RED CROSS AND NEMA HAVE SET UP A HOTLINE FOR VOLUNTEERS. YOU MAY CONTACT THIS HOTLINE ON 1-803-783-0028 TO FIND OUT HOW YOU CAN HELP IN THE EFFORT TO RELIEVE, RESETTLE, AND NATURALIZE OUR FORMER NEIGHBORS TO THE NORTHEAST. AS FOR THE HINODEJIN EMPIRE, AN EFFORT HAS BEEN MADE TO CONTACT THE ROYAL PALACE IN MISEI TO UNDERSTAND THE HINODEJIN SIDE OF THE STORY. WE WILL REPORT ON ANY DEVELOPMENTS.

THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO THIS SPECIAL REPORT. IT WILL NOW BE REPEATED IN ITS ENTIRETY.

(The report repeats on a loop for the next 24 hours on DSN and all NBC Damukuni stations.)
