Ivy Herrick had had to pull a few strings to get here. More than a few. Fortunately, Nepharim being who they were, strings could generally be pulled by enough force of personality. Herrick had gallons of that to spare, enough capital to almost outweigh the fact that everyone thought she was insane. Almost.
Maybe Herrick was a little unbalanced, but she had everyone in the world telling her she was 38. If she counted back the current year to her birth year, that was 38 years; with this, she was on-board. She looked ... like someone in her late 30s. Swarthy, squared-off, broadening slightly in the beam.
She was not 38. She was absolutely not 38. She had far more experience than that coursing through her mind. She'd finished up her career in Bonesea, an obscure and bizarre land known most in Nephara through The Memoirs of the Shrewsthrow-Scarlett Family, written by a rather hapless honeymooning couple. Popular suspicion was that they had a rather lax relationship with the truth, which was fine. Some shops didn't even put it in the non-fiction section.
Herrick believed every damn word. And more. She'd spent twelve, fifteen-odd years there, not... three or four or five. She'd dropped off the map and into a different world entirely and she'd been through many different therapists trying to unpack it all.
West Hook had taken a gamble on her, and she'd repaid them with, well, steadiness, intimidating a fairly terrible squad into survival. And when there'd been talk about reviving a serious, competitive U21 side, well, Herrick slammed her foot in the door. She's the best damn young coach around! And she's got the experience. She managed for a bit in Bonesea, too. Just that the 'bit' was like eight years. Or so.
She was hazy around how much time it had been. Just... more.
She shouted louder than anyone else for a job nobody really wanted that wasn't damaged goods. Youth football wasn't particularly highly regarded in Nephara, but how much success had the senior side had since dropping out of the DBC? Fuck-all, that was what.
She didn't tolerate failure from her charges, young though they were. She drilled them hard. She kept score, relentlessly, in every fashion. Reminded them their careers were on the line. Called Romola Carolan a short bitch when she dropped a cross. In fairness, Carolan was a short bitch, and would always be a short bitch. That was why she would probably watch the tournament from the bench.
They'd roamed the country, beating up various' club's youth sides, and a few lower-league outfits to toughen up. No kid grew up soft in Nephara, sure, but a lot could use a blow or three to their pride. Having some bricklayer from Stahlburg get away with blatantly fouling you clambering over you to head home a late winner would do that. Complacency wasn't gonna do her lot in.

Complacency wasn't going to be an issue with the first match, though. Cosumar had a thriving tradition of youth football, along with just being a giant of the world game more generally. Cosumarite silk against Nepharim steel... there'd be no issue getting her charges perked up for that.
Two banks of four. Muscular defenders. Quick wingers with chalk on their boots whipping in high crosses to big strikers. Some might say that the whole point of youth football is to develop a squad, and Herrick didn't disagree - just, developing a squad's desire to win at all costs by thumping the daylights out of their opposition was a perfectly legitimate form of development in itself. And maybe, she thought privately, one that'd do the Cormorants a damn sight of good down the line...

The Tar Pit, Char Sara, Valanora
Just before the first match of the Di Bradini Cup: Hapilopper v. Chromatika
For the first time, the Under-21 Hapilopper National Football Team was about to take the field for a match, this one against the Under-21s from Chromatika. Not much was known about the Under-21s, as they were among the last players from Hapilopper to toil in the shadows before the Hapilopper National Football Team punched a fist through the wall of apathy that practically existed in the national sporting landscape.

Many of these players were college students, members of junior club squads, reserve players on senior squads, or even in some cases, still high school students. For the most part, players had been able to enjoy the anonymity from people not caring about football in the Hapiloppian landscape. These players could go to class without anyone bothering them. But then, last year, when the HNFT senior team stunned everyone by winning last year’s Baptism of Fire, people started noticing Hapiloppian soccer players.

Fernie Fairburn, a midfielder from Surrey Perimeter College, told the tale of what things were like before the Baptism of Fire and after it.

“Well, before it got started, we were playing at Perimeter’s gridiron field in front of maybe 20 people, and 10 of them were girls that Devin Hornsby (a teammate) had been trying to get with,” Fernie said. “The place was deathly quiet. You could hear individual conversations in the stadium between people, and the people in the stands could probably hear us swearing at each other as we fought like hell for a victory. Then, we won the BOF and at the very next game, and I’m not making this up, there were 15,000 people at the very next game, cheering loudly and going crazy over everything we were doing.”

A handful of the players had the potential to become megastars in the Hapiloppian sporting landscape. Claire Randall, for example, was among the first female stars in the male-dominated world of Hapiloppian sport, and she was good. She could score goals with impunity, almost similar to Ernie Stevenson with the senior team. In addition, she was entertaining in more ways than one. She could give one hell of an entertaining interview and keep the members of the media – and the fans – in stitches with laughter.

So imagine everyone’s complete lack of surprise when, during the training sessions, scouts from the senior team and every single top-flight HFA team went out to study her, the way she handled the ball, the way she made defenders look like total idiots, and the way she could fire balls into the back of the net. There was a very real chance that, if she truly put on a show at the Di Bradini Cup, it might be Claire moving up to the senior team, possibly as a second striker behind Ernie.

But Claire wasn’t going to be the only player possibly moving up. The junior team could see that their senior teammates were struggling mightily at the AOCAF tournament, and some of them were starting to crack under pressure. Hell, Cooter Harris had suffered a nervous breakdown on live TV and practically got drummed out of the senior team for it. Patrick Milburn, a fantastic goalkeeper from Buckridge University (or Buck U as the school’s rowdy supporters called it), was asked by reporters constantly if he saw the DBC as an audition for Cooter’s position.

To his part, Patrick wouldn’t take the bait.

“I see the DBC as a championship we can win,” Patrick told reporters after a training session. “It’s a damn shame what happened to Cooter, and hopefully we’ll see him out there again. As cool as it would be to be at the net for the senior team in the next World Cup, right now my focus is making sure I don’t let anything get past me in this Di Bradini Cup. If Thom Perkins wants to talk to me after this tournament, cool. But right now, I just want to win this.”

To a man, that was the attitude shared by the Under-21 team. Sure, they’d like to be going up against the top senior teams in the world, and quietly, some of them opined that they could do better than the senior team right now, but they weren’t going to let anyone know that out in the open. They weren’t going to even think about it. There was a Di Bradini Cup to be won.

Corsairs Take Flight

Yon Kegant
Capri, Valanora

These are exciting times for Mrii football! The continued growth of the MNL as a serious contender in UICA play, the Reavers making it to a World Cup quarterfinal and being kicked out by the skin of their teeth, and now a proper youth team being brought together. Dubbed the 'Corsair Project,' Geraard Tavol hangs up his jersey both domestically and internationally to step up to this new leadership role. Supposedly this is a concerted effort by the league council to improve how Mrii backs are developed, to the point of putting a career centre half in charge and letting him run a 5-3-2. Running five backs is nearly unheard of--can you name an MNL team that does that? No? It's because the only one is Centre Bruul. Nobody remembers Centre Bruul. It'll be a change of pace for certain, but reports out of camp say that Geraard has the kids well-heeled and working together well. He's always been renowned for his people skills, having had to liaison between his players, the referees, the opposing manager, and the ball at once during his multiple seasons of player-managing the Skewers. I don't think there could have been a better choice for the role without looking externally, which understandably the council didn't want to do when inaugurating the program.

As the players gather for the Di Bradini Cup here in Capri, they'll be able to feel at least a little at home--nabbing a draw into one of the two major island cities in Valanora means screaming at the ocean will always be a short rail ride away. Joining the Corsairs in Group E are a few familiar faces: Of course everyone knows the football giants of Schottia, back from their brief World Cup hangover and obviously ready to reassert their dominance and develop a new golden generation. Mercedini may not be that sort of tour de force, but have always been the sort of team that is all too happy to be a banana peel if you don't give them the proper respect. HUElavia has more of an also-ran reputation, but for those of you who haven't followed youth sports before: it is imperative to keep in mind that anything can happen. Sure, that's true of senior football as well, but youth teams can be particularly volatile as emotions run high and inexperience shows. That'll get put to the test quickly, as we're matched up with the HUElavians for the first match.

If this is the first you've heard of all this hullabaloo, we've got a special collaboration! The official Haven announcer provides a pronunciation guide for the Corsairs' roster, which you can find at maalmemoirs.mrn/dbcroster.

If one would ask Shani Hayashida what her philosophy regarding football was, she would reply that it was the same as her philosophy regarding everything else in life - An avid practitioner of yoga - which had been her previous occupation before getting involved with football at Feslwyr State University - Hayashida was of the opinion that in order to win, you had to have a balance of everything that all worked together to a singular identity, a singular goal.

Looking at this iteration of the U-21 squad would seem counterproductive. The fact that the CCFA decides to send an All-Star team to the U-21s every edition means that not many of the players have ever played with each other. They lack cohesion. However, with the fact that seniors are too old for the U-21 tournament (being 22), this is the best that the CCFA can do, and with the Chromatik League having disbanded, this is perhaps the best that Chromatika can muster, save the one or two Keira Andisori wannabees that have already started their career overseas.

On paper, this lineup is a dream one for any CCFA fan. From Mireille Marchal's patented left fist raised into the air in celebration every time she makes a big save to Ivan Kravchenko's jagged buzzcut with a lightning shaved to the side, this team wasn't shy of its character; you know that when Théo Girard - he of the galloping gait, terse replies, and bright green shoes - was the most boring of the starters, you have some players on the squad.

With Hayashida's formation of all-press attack and dropping back to cover as fast as possible when things go awry in play, all eyes will be on the front three of Laframboise, Rogers, and Dembélé to do their fair share of scoring. It is being lamented that one of the greatest CCFA products - Kristian Non, two-time Player of the Year - wasn't able to participate in a DBC due to goings-on within the country; this is the golden opportunity for Rogers to show that she can do the same with her head, for Dembélé to prove to the Scouts that her ability isn't dependent upon Non, and for Laframboise to put some je ne sais quoi flair into the attack.

Their first opponent will be Hapilopper.
A Look Back at CCFA Season 6 Playoffs

Round of 12
Felswyr State University 3–3 Alnio University of the Arts (3–3 AET) (4–2 pen.)
FSU: Non '24, '71, Robinson '89 AUoA: Duboix '16, Ingott '74, '90+3
Pùr State University 0–1 Deprí Theological Seminary
DTS: Black '85
Deprí Lanar University 3–0 Urrheddiao State University
DLU: Boudon '2. Dior '46, Hémery '71
University of the Islands 2–0 Chromatik State University
UotI: Xuyen '20, Wiles '68

The postseason of the CCFA - known as being the most volatile tournament to determine who is actually the Champion - started off with only one upset this time around, as the higher seeded teams really took care of business. Alnio gave defending champions Felswyr all they could handle, Vance Ingott converting on a free kick in injury time to force overtime, but Jacob Descombes was brilliant in goal for the Firehawks during the penalty shootout, and the Firehawks rose into the next round just ahead of the Artisans. In Pùr, any hopes for a deep run by the Riders were dashed as the Scholars of Deprí Theological - perhaps online two years early per their schedule - relied on a stellar performance from Asher Singh to the tune of a 1-0 victory. Singh stopped all eleven shots on goal from Pùr State, which ties a postseason record in the CCFA. The one-finger tip of Penn Town with three minutes to go will go down in memory. Deprí Lanar's twin center midfielders - Min-seok Kim and Mi-jung Kim - expertly orchestrated a domination of the Anchors, while the Mirage from the University of the Islands possessed the ball for 72% of the match versus the Cavaliers of Chromatk State, earning an easy victory.

Bliuji Mens National u18 Soccer Team

The Bliuji Mens National u18 soccer team is made up of the best high school talent from Bliuji. This will be their first ever competition at the international level.

Style Modifier -5

Roster

Derik Zeuiv GK, St Andrews High School

Some may say Derik Zeuiv has the potential to be the future of goalkeeping for Bliuji. At 6 feet tall and 210 pounds he is quite a "big man" especially for a goal keeper at his age. With a 0.80 gaa and a 98% save percentage he is extraordinary in highschool. He is already getting offers from Bliuji super league teams to be apart of their youth programs for future talent. Not to mention he will be attending Kingstown University next fall.

Michel Turnichev GK, Waterford Prep
Much like Derik, Mich Turnichev is an amazing goalie his reactions are quick. he is extremely smart. Boasting a 89% save percentage and a 1.10 gaa the kid is insane. Getting scholarships from Merchant University and Trinidad University, the kid is going D1.

Aaron Markov DF, Granite Bay Prep
Growing up in a family of 5 and his parents working 3 jobs; this fine young man has balanced getting a 4.0 gpa and practicing soccer. Getting a scholarship to Granite Bay, he has turned out as one of the finest talents ever produced from that high school. What more can you expect from a teen living the good life. Being recruited to North Shore Legends youth program, he is the future of Bliuji soccer!

James Markson DF, Monarch Institute
We all know Monarch Institute is known for their insanely good hockey team, they do produce some amazing soccer players as well. And that was definitely the case for James! A shutdown defense men originally from the city of Hamza, he is one of the best at the high school level.

Christopher Obnekov DF, Highland Public
The most under rated player on this team, while he may not be that smart and quite a trouble maker, he has insanely good mechanical skill and gives strikers a nightmare. Not much else to say about Obnekov.

David Ibanov DF, Edgewater Prep
David Ibanov a very fast defense men and the captain of this squad! Very good at making up plays and breaking up the rush.

Kevin Kavachev MF, St Isaac's
Kevin Kavachev is the closet thing since Erik Belov. He is by far the best player on this team in every aspect, at 230 pounds and 6 feet 4 inches, there is almost no one to stop him. With 18 goals and 34 assists last season he tears defenses apart with ease.

Gary Nevokov MF, Willow Public
Public school boy and helping out the midfield, a good player regardless.

Henry Bygor MF, St Luke's
Another good midfielder yet another private school man. 3 words to describe him. Fast, strong, accurate.

Carl Yiocheck MF, Prussia Seccondary
Much like Kavachev Carl Yiocheck is a really good player.

Byron Adichek FW, St. Sebastians
St Sebastians Byron Adichek is one of a kind, truly a tremendous player coming to rise. He might not be strong or tall but his speed, positioning and shot accuracy make up for all of that. Regardless he will be dominating on the field for sure no doubt about that one.

Logan Dorochov FW, Prussia Seccondary
A great player.

Srđan Jakšić had to admit that he was feeling a bit pleased with himself, coming off an impressive showing in the Copa Rushmori, taking a nearly fully rotated side from the one that was in the World Cup Qualifiers and had failed so miserably to lifting the region's trophy. It was a moment that he wanted to savor for as long as he could, however that time was going to be cut short as a manager's work is never truly over. His focus now had to be turned towards the upcoming Di Bradini Cup in the Eternal Empire, having but a few weeks to scout out and select a squad that would be making the trek into Atlantian Oceania for the tournament. Two years ago the squad had mildly disappointed, having not been able to achieve a spot in the last four, as had been something of a tradition for the Young Wanderers. It was well known far and wide that Pasarga had very good development program for youth football, with the Baskita FC, CA Paulinthal, and Tanrısal academies all having several standout prospects that had made an impact both in the youth international as well as the senior international competitions. Reaching the semifinals of the DBC was something of an unstated goal and the previous squad had failed to do so.

Unlike with the Copa Rushmori squad, where his eyes had been averted outward and forward, looking to the future and what talent had been untapped, his vision for the DBC was far more closer to home. There was no doubt that there was a handful of good Pasargans elibile for the squad that were plying their trade abroad, most notably in other Rushmori nations like Eura and Nephara, but the best place to look for young, developing Pasargan players had to be in Pasarga itself and the clubs in the SupeLiga that were noteworthy for having good youth setups. While there was the three elite academies, there were still a handful of others could produce solid prospects for the national team on the occasion, even if it was done on a far less frequent mark than what those three other academies had shown to be capable of. The likes of Lunas FC, Stein-los Turkish, and the somewhat infamous Santos Luega among others had in the past been providers of quality talent for the Young Wanderers, and there he would hope to once again find enough players coming through to make a solid roster.

There was a concern however, fullbacks were historically troublesome positions for the youth team as well as the senior team to fill out, something about the fullback position and Pasagans just did not seem to mix. His preliminary reports from the scouts had already mentioned a scarcity of talent for the rightback position, which was troubling for the manager as his right midfield and winger positions were also apparently lacking a bit of depth and flair this go around. Having both the winger and fullback on the same side of a formation be the weakspot could be very hazardous, it was not something that sat well at all with Jakšić. If this were Tanrısal, he would have simply asked the board for more funds to go out and sign a good player to fill the need, but this was where international management was different, he had to choose from a pool of players and not have his pick of the litter. Perhaps that was why it was said that the greatest managers were the ones who were able to perform well at the international stage, where without prep time or a squad of their own choosing, a manager that could get results there was far superior to the ones in the domestic game with all the resources and choice to play with.

This was his test then, to measure up to not just those who had come before, but to the entire management game as it were, reversing the course of his career from domestic affluence and his Copa Rushmori foreign based squad to that of a squad built in the dual islands. The first hurdle in the Copa Rushmori was made all the easier by being in the dual islands and then having the added bonus of a great derby and rivalry to fire up the squad in the Final. Now they were going to be thousands of miles away from their homes and with crows that were not likely to be behind them and pushing them forward on the path of redemption. Jakšić opened up the binder that held all the prospects the scouts had been looking at for the squad and he started to go down the list and begin his selection, for if this were to be a test, then he would study as well as he could so that he would be as well prepared as any to ace the exam ahead of him.

Lursie Fane and Steffannee Bruin are chatting with each other as they walk off of the field, and through the tunnel, after the end of this match. Behind them, the Bears’ travelling fans are leaving the stadium happily to the sound of songs and drumming.

“That was cree-ee—py!”

“You mean the way that all of the other team’s players looked identical to each other, and none of them said a word or made a gesture to anybody —not even to each other — during the entire game?”

“Ayyuh, for true! They couldn’t be hrreal people, couldthey?”

“Hr’rmm, maybeso not. So, hwhat do you rreckon they were then?”

“A hive-mind? Spirits bound into ectoplasmic bodies whose shaper didn’t bother to differentiate them? Hrrobots? Ordinary people, but bound to all that likeness and to silence — hwhether withr without their own consent — under some kind of wizarrdry?”

“At least they probably weren’t zombies, like one of the teams that the ‘adult’ Bear-Belles had to face hwhen qualifying for their first World Cup appearance…”

“Ur’rmm, you don’t suppose some foreign wizard or powerful spirit did something to urrs, instead, so that we perceived those players like that but they hreally did vary in looks and say things and so on, do you?”

Bear-on-a-stick! That’s a worrying idea…
“But, no, thinking it over I do
not think that that can have been the case. Firstly, we’re all supposed to be protected against anything like that by the holy blessings that we were given before leaving home, and secondly: If they could do that to urrs, then hwhy not just outright make us lose the game?”

“Fair enough. Anyhows, we did win, and win quite nicely, even though we didn’t hrreally get our heads around the situation well enough to handle the situation properly until after one of them had slipped through somehow and scored that opening goal…”

“Four-to-one, that’s not just a win, and it’s not just a better result than we managed last week hwhen we won our ‘friendly’ against Sargossa — the same number of goals scored by urrs, but only one let in in exchange for that hrrather than three — it’s even a better result than we started with in the previous Cup: Four-to-two, it was then, so we halved the number of goals scored against urrs.”

“Ayyuh, but it was a better result for Qasden than in their first game last time around, too: That time, there were a total of five goals scored as well… but all of those were against them.”

“Hr’rmm…”

“Oh? And hwhat sort of team were they facing for that match?”

“It was the team from Sajnur, which is in the same group as them again — and so, in the groups as urrs as well, this time — here. Our own[/]i next opponents, here on Match-day Two, for true.”

“Hr’rmm. Know much about this Sajnur, yet?”

“Not a lot, no. They were the other team from that group last time which didn’t go through to the next hrround, along with Qasden, they seem to have a fairly ‘attacking’ style, and they favour similar formations to our current one rather than more front-heavy or back-heavy ones, and they’ve sent along a mixed team hrrather than either an all-male or an all-female one… So, the game against them should be almost like facing Human ‘rreflections’ of ourselves. Only, hopefully, reflections that aren’t quite as good at this as urrs.”

“Hokay.
“So, hwhat do
you think about our altered starting formation? Smells to me as though it hrreally might be a bit better than the old system, more flexible in terms of whether we attack or defend.”

“Hr’rmm. I agree.”

“And Urrsarra and the other coaches deciding to hrrotate so many of our substitutes into play during the game’s last quarter, to give them more experience of international play, once we were clearly well ahead and Qasden had stopped trying to advance?”

“Another good idea, for true, and o Redbank actually getting her first international goal during that chance can’t hurt urrs either.
“Anyhows, enough talk for now. All that exercise has made me hungry: Let’s get changed, and listen to hwhatever Urrsarra has to say hrright now, and then smell-out hwhat’s for dinner.”

OOC Notes

1.) If the player behind Qasden objects to how my footballers are (in current absence of any usable information/i] from that player…) describing that nation’s team then it was due to somebody messing with my own team’s perceptions: If they don’t, then it wasn’t. I can quite happily RP it either way around.

2.) Yes, the “senior” Bear-Belles really did have to face a team of zombies as one of their opponents in their first qualifying campaign: Zombies of various RL football stars, gathered together at a time far enough in the future that all of those players would logically have been dead by then… Anybody else here remember the nation called Prux, and some of the other ideas for teams that its owner also came up with?

3.) The friendly game against Sargossa.

Greater Cebu U21 Squad

Coaching Staff
Manager: Robert Bright, 32
A manager who puts the players first before anything else. He is the man of tactical prowess. His Gegenpress strategy results in a fruitful season with the youngsters that brings silverware like U21 Gaia Champions League, U21 Copa de Perez and U21 Europeia Cup. Young but full of tactical experience that even leaves the football veterans shock in awe by Bright's tactical insights.
Assistant Manager: Gener Caledon, 35
Reliable manager. Extremely loyal. Always there when the team needed especially during the manager's absence because of his dental appointments. He has the similar style of tactics with Bright. Together, they can concoct different tactics when such changes are necessary. He is just like the serious version of Robert. He is not into jokes unlike his friend, the manager. But, if he(Caledon) does joke, it's more likely the dad types that anyone wants to avoid to hear.
Goalkeeper Coach: Levi Novibirsk, 35
He was a 5 time Greater Cebu Best Goalkeeper of the Year before retiring as a player and immediately join as a GK coach. It is quite uncommon for a GK coach to have statistics as his second specialty. His knowledge of statistics helps the players to know the tendencies of where the opponents shoot especially during penalty kicks.
Fitness Coach: Felix Konrad, 44
Arrived at GCFA U21 from Mandaue FC. Konrad sought to overhaul the Frost Drakes’ fitness to match the manager’s demands.
Medical rehab and performance manager: Norman Osden, 50
A former physio at San Nuestra FC and Sporting Kliningrad, Osden arrived at GCFA U21 in summer 2018 after working as a specialist in Marche Noire at the Aether hospital.
Team Doctor: Aaron Masey, 49
Masey joined the team in 2013, working with the academy sides, and was promoted to his current role in 2015. He, effectively, replaced the former team doctor, the popular Dr. Zain Maelik.
Head Physio: Jerome Zamora, 47
Zamora joined the team in a significant coup for the Greater Cebu from rivals Bigtopia U21 in November 2018 after 11 years at the young Biggies. Born in Thanatus, he joined Bigtopia U21 from Marche Noire U21 and is widely regarded and liked by staff and players alike.

He is known for his athleticism, positioning, stature, bravery, imposing presence in goal, and acrobatic reflex saves. He imposes his authority on the entire defense. A vocal presence in goal, he shouted orders at his defenders, came off his line to intercept crosses and also ran out to meet onrushing attackers.

THRILLING GAME ENDS IN MIXED START

Image

Dreamplanetian U21s return, score 3 goals but only get a point.

Dreamplanet may not have won the match but their return on the U21 stage certainly impressed those who were not expecting anything major against Baker Park, Os Sonhadores held the lead until Rui Sousa's goal-line fumble awarded Kyle Baum the goal and a point to both teams.

The start to the match was very slow as the inexperience showed as Baker Park quickly got a hold of the match and despite some heroic defending by Rui Sousa, Quinton Harris went on to dispatch the ball into the bottom left corner for Baker Park's first goal of the match and of the tournament. Dreamplanet were able to put some passes together, almost resulting in a goal for Bruno Silva until it was parried by Rose McCormick, Dreamplanet trailed at the break.

Things got even worse in the second half as Tim Cassel scored in just 43 seconds in the second half to double Baker Park's lead, Hélder Guimarães gave away a foul and Tim Cassel headed it in with Travis Grimaldi's assist, Dreamplanet looked certain to sink further until Miguel Benedito scored a sublime free kick into the top right corner to give Dreamplanet a glimmer of hope for an equaliser. Baker Park and Dreamplanet had a tug of war for 15 minutes in the midfield until Dreamplanet finally had the breakthrough in the 66th minute with José Costa being able to wriggle past Jerome Brooks and get a cross up to Miguel Benedito to volley in, Dreamplanet had just saved themselves from a two goal deficit and they were about to go one up after Antonio Bentos' smash into the box, duke past the defenders and scored to complete the turnaround for Dreamplanet. The defenders proceeded to shut up shop to claim a priceless victory, this looked pretty likely as time ticked down but this was all for nought when Kyle Baum had a longshot that Rui Sousa fumbled into the back of the net, tarnishing a solid performance and rekindling doubts about his ability.

Dreamplanet's next match is up against Taeshan, the champions of the 19th Di Bradini Cup, Dreamplanet are not favourites to win the match so they might try to play it safe for a point, however that will mean that the final match against Ko-oren will decide the fate of the competition for Dreamplanet, a draw is not a bad start but they will need to up their game to exit the group like in their one and only DBC appearance back in DBC 36 in which Dreamplanet got eliminated by Schottia.
Dreamplanet 3 - 3 Baker Park
(Miguel Benedito 51', 66', Antonio Bento 79' - 27' Quinton Harris, 46' Tim Cassel, 83' Kyle Baum)

Metropolis, Ibini, Valanora
Leading up to the second match of the Di Bradini Cup group stage – Hapilopper v. Equestria
To say the least, the first match for the Under-21 Hapilopper National Football Team had gone quite well. It was easy to see why – the Junior Haps had won 4-2 over the team from Chromatika, and looked like they knew what they were doing, even from the moment the match got started. For a team that had never played before, they looked like a well-oiled machine, a team that knew what to do at the right time and the wrong time.

In the 11th minute, Claire Randall, with assists from Fernie Fairburn and Calvin Pettigrew, fired the ball into the back of the net from 20 yards out. Mireille Marchal, the Chromatik goalkeeper, moved one way when Claire went the other way. It was a marvelous goal, to say the least, and it set the tone for Hapiloppian domination throughout the match.

The second goal, coming in the 27th minute, was a surprise. Claire had attempted several times to get the ball into the back of the net, but Mireille and a handful of Chromatik defenders were trying like hell to keep the outcome from going the way Claire and the Hapiloppians wanted it. Claire would shoot it towards the net. It would get deflected by a Chromatik defender. Calvin or Dean Anson would try to get the ball away from one of the Chromatiks. Eventually, after two minutes of a stalemate near the Chromatik net, Dean, seeing an opportunity to score himself, said “to hell with it” and took his shot. Nobody expected it, but Dean had scored and Hapilopper led 2-0 on the strength of the senior from Hull Grove High near Surrey.

In the 39th minute, however, Chromatika edged closer, and big Prisca Rogers – at six foot eight inches tall – used her size to get past the Hapiloppian defenders and head the ball with extreme prejudice past Patrick Milburn, who didn’t even know what was coming his way.
Patrick was a little rattled by the goal, and had to take a breather in order for him to get his composure back. Later on, he told reporters that seeing Prisca come towards him with all due speed kind of scared him.

“I mean, she was coming and there wasn’t a damn thing anyone could do to stop her,” Patrick said.

Thankfully, the Junior Haps took quite a bit of time off the clock before Chromatika could take a shot at goal again. There was ball-hogging, bus-parking, a little bit of stupidity and two goals from Hapiloppian players – by Tyrone Barrett in the 59th with assists from August Burton and substitute Scott Raines, and by Claire in the 69th with an assist from August. By the time Marie-Laule Laframboise put the ball in the back of the Hapiloppian net in the 84th, it didn’t matter.

The Junior Haps had secured victory in their first ever Di Bradini Cup match, and thanks to Equestria and Bolgano tying in the other Group C match, they held the lead in the group.

As the players sat in the locker room at Metropolis, they realized what they were up against. For the third time in a matter of weeks, a team from Hapilopper would go up against a team from Equestria. The previous two occasions, in the AOCAF, didn’t go well. The first match, an 8-1 drubbing at the hands of the Equestrians, saw senior team goalkeeper Cooter Harris lose his shit and flip out on live TV after having given up eight goals in the contest.

The second match saw the Equestrians take a 1-0 victory against a Hapiloppian team that was somewhat stronger than they were in the first match, but still, it was easy to see who was better and who, well, needed a fire lit under their collective asses and fast.

By comparison, the Junior Haps felt motivated and felt confident that they could secure a victory. They wanted to show the multiverse that the future of Hapiloppian football was looking bright. After all, these were going to be the players that would be playing in World Cups of future. These were the players who felt they could make the HNFT one of the multiverse’s top footballing nations in the same vein as Vilita, Equestria and Banija. They could see it happen. Now they had to make it a reality.

U-21s in Slow Start

by Deniz Kurban

Timuria 0–1 Lisander
Lukas Hiltmann (48)

The U21 squad of the Red Wolves found themselves suffering a defeat in their first ever match, in what was a scrappy and at times ill tempered affair. The first half of the match was primarily highlighted by Lisander showing their offensive prowess, however, the U21s generally restrained them to long range shots that often lacked the required power or placement to get by Abdullaev who put in a strong performance. The first chance of the match for the U21s would come from a corner with Berker Balkan's header clipping hte bar on its way out.

The second half began with a chance falling to Timurdogan Ozbey after a miscommunication by the defence, his eventual shot fizzed harmlessly wide of the far post in what would come to be recognised as Timuria's best chance of the match. The U21s would come to regret that miss as shortly after Lukas Hiltmann would find his way past Timurbekov and through on goal, where he rounded a scrambling Abdullaev and slotted home into an open goal.

The opening result makes progression from the group substantially more difficult as they prepare for a must win clash against Starblaydia.

U21's start DBC as usual
by Oliver Stanley
The Post Soccer Correspondent

The Commonwealth U21 National Team have appeared in the DiBradini Cup/Under 21 World Championships on 4 previous occasions, and barring their debut, have opened the group stage play with a draw. This tournament's opponent was Dreamplanet, who are making a re-entry to youth competition for the first time since DBC 36, and they gave the Black & Gold quite a battle before succumbing to a late Kyle Baum goal, which rescued a point for BP from the 3-3 draw.

The Angelotic Temple in Longview has been a venue with mixed results in the past; it was here that Banija eliminated the U21's in DBC42/63 and in the next edition, BP got a victory against Razenthuria. This time out it was come from behind magic, after giving up a 2 goal lead.

They will meet a familiar face in the second match, when they square off against Ko-oren at Turmondale Grounds in Raynor City; the sides met in the group stage at the last DBC—a 2-2 draw at Metropolis in Ibini--and the senior teams faced off at Sportsmen's Park during AOCAF 58. The Dragonflies currently sit at the bottom of the group following their MD1 defeat.

The final group G match will also be a familiar DBC foe when they play Taeshan; this will mark the third time in 5 tournaments that the U21's of the Knights & Bees will play one another. There is also a history between the senior teams, during World Cup Qualifying 81, with BP winning both matches at Atlantea Coliseum and the return leg at President's Park by identical 1-0 scores. Depending on how the matchday 2 results work out, this could be the group decider.

A Look Back at CCFA Season 6 Playoffs, Part 2

Quarterfinals

Eyrods Tech 2–3 Felswyr State University
ETech: Rogers '23, '71 FSU: Non '38, '64, '89

Ah, the Quarterfinals - where the real matches begin, and this time, with so many upsets! The Scholars continue their upward trend of being ahead of schedule, Asher Singh contributing yet another shutout in the narrow tie. To see the Scholars in the Semifinals this early in their respective careers is a feat indeed. In the third installment of the Island Derby, Mireille Marchal made sure that Blake Wiles's chip shot early in the second half was the only score the Mirage needed, taking down the touted Midshipmen. The Spartans of Z'ai'ai Institute of Technology - they of the numerous deep runs into the playoffs - had Laframboise pop off as the striker single-handedly propelled them to the next round. Finally, in the game of the weekend, Eyrods Tech and Felswyr State squared off with Prisca Rogers and Kristian Non going at it. It was the defending Player of the Year who prevailed at the end in a tense, narrow affair.

Postby Schottia » Wed Oct 23, 2019 4:20 am

Colin Donaldson wasn’t entirely sure what had just happened. When you came out of an interview – especially a process as rigorous as the Marauders’ one – you normally had a fairly good idea whether you were in with a shout or not. The application had just been a hit and hope, and shot to nothing, and Donaldson had spent the whole process wondering if he were scuppering his chances with Chenoworth Harriers, by making them wait.

He stood outside the VSC offices, staring up through the trees at the sky above and shook his head. Things like this didn’t happen to people like him… but then again, somehow they always did. Captaining his boyhood heroes, Handon United, captaining Schottia in their first ever World Cup appearance, going on to work under Lionel Mah and lift the trophy. He had been blessed, time and time again, he had been blessed as a player and a coach.

This felt different though. Was there a bigger job in Multiverse football? How on earth did someone like him, a doughy human being, with salt and pepper hair, go about managing the likes od Laborious Hawk or Espy va Drake..? The job, the task, it felt so much bigger than him. He’d be expected to add that sixth star to the most iconic crest in football, and there was no doubt that he’d need to make some bold changes in order to achieve that. In recent years Valanora had struggled to even make the last sixteen of the World Cup, and Donaldson knew that a repeat performance would likely be the end for him. He wasn’t a legendary manager, he didn’t have the scaffolding of a cast-iron reputation to protect him if it all went pear-shaped. No, he’d be out on his arse sooner that you could say Sabine and Caddonia.

‘So…’ Donaldson was brought abruptly out of his stupor. He had entirely forgotten that he’d agreed to meet his daughter, Madeline, outside the building. She was dressed in black sports leggings and trainers, topped of with a green, Schottia training hoody. A pair of large headphones hung round her neck, clearly visible, as her chestnut hair had been tied up in a tight bun. Colin’s state of inner shock must have been etched onto his face, because as she approached, the 20-year-old got entirely the wrong impression. ‘Ah… sorry dad… never mind though, huh? Harriers it is?’ She stood on her tiptoes to give him a hug. ‘You couldn’t take me with you, could you..?’

Madeline happened to be in the country right now, as part of the Schottia Under-21 side currently competing in the Di Bradini Cup. She was the younger of Donaldson’s two daughters, and like her sister, was contracted to Handon United.

‘No… erm… I can’t.’ He replied placing a hand either side of her shoulders, as he tried to find the way to say this. ‘Valanora have offered me the job– ’

‘Fuck off!’

‘Please don’t swear in front of your father.’

‘Sorry… Eh… Get lost!’

‘Better.’ Donaldson smiled for the first time in what felt like hours. ‘I thought it was another interview, or… I dunno, another round of interviews, but no, they offered me the job.’

‘Oh my God, dad!’ Madeline threw herself into another hug, this one with a little more gusto. ‘Oh my God..! I’d ask you to take me with you again, but unless grandma was an elf, I guess I’m on a hiding to nothing..?’

Donaldson stretched his face, finally feeling the reality hit him. ‘No, grandma was very much human – same as me.’

‘What did they say?’ Madeline was stood, rocking back and forward on her heals, unable to stand still. ‘When they gave you the job I mean?’

Donaldson tried to think back. ‘Eh… They were impressed with the pitch I gave them, I think. They liked the idea of the high-pressing football I was used to employing under Lionel, and I think I fit the bill in terms of my own character etc.’

‘Aw dad, I still can’t believe it.’ Madeline was beaming back at him, almost as if she were the proud parent. ‘Should we go and have a tea quickly, I need to be back to the hotel at some point, we’ve got the opener against Mercedini tomorrow.’

‘Let’s go for it,’ Donaldson replied. ‘Although I might need something a little stronger than tea.’

"We are the Island of the Lost. We are scoundrels. We are liars. We are thieves. We are the scum of the earth. We have been sent here both for our own safety and for the safety of the world outside. This barrier protects the world from us, and us from the world. This is our home. This is where we will stay for the rest of our lives."

I remember the Auradonian invasion like it was yesterday. I was around nine at the time so it's been pretty much burned into my mind. Auradon had become such a huge consumer of magic in recent years that they are literally beginning to run out of magic over there. Meanwhile, here in the Island of the Lost, it was said that we had reserves of magic the likes of which the Auradonian people could only dream about. They said that it was all because of the villans that they had exiled to the Island and banned from practicing magic. All of that latent and unused magic had to go somewhere, and it ended up permeating the very air of the Island. We literally lived and breathed in magic here in the Island of the Lost, and for a while we were all very, very happy.

Then something happened in Auradon, something about a misuse of magic that led to the destruction of several of their castles. We the Lost knew that we had nothing to do eith it because the magic barrier prevents any one of us, even our most powerful leaders like Maleficent, the Evil Queen, and Grand Vizier Jafar, and yet Auradon blamed us anyway. We knew why they were blaming us for the misuse of magic: we had the magic reserves they wanted, needed, and they were going to get their hands on it by hook or by crook.
The invasion, for me, happened on a clear sunny afternoon. I was playing around with my brother and some friends, just minding our own business when I happened to look up and I saw these little white streaks in the sky. At first I thought that they were shooting stars, but then my brother Ryan shouted, "Missiles!" At the same moment the air raid sirens began to sound throughout the city, and our parents ran out of the house and dragged us back in. Our neighborhood didn't get hit, but we could hear the explosions and feel the ground shaking beneath our feet when the missiles hit.

Port Maleficent, being the capital, was one of the hardest hit cities on the island. Other places that sustained major damages include Playa del Mal, Cape Hook, and Ursulopolis. But the bombardment was just the prelude. The invasion came three days after the missiles. Auradonian troops landed right on the beaches of Playa del Mal, with the city falling to the invaders within the day. More troops landed on the outskirts of Port Maleficent in the following days. But instead of bullets, the Auradonians were met with cheers from the people of Port Maleficent. Nine-year-old me didn't really understand what was going on back then, although I did feel that there had to be something wrong about the fact that the very same people who had pledged their allegiance to the Island of the Lost mere hours earlier were now celebrating the arrival of the Auradonian invaders to our city. I asked my Dad about it, but what he had told me didn't make sense at the time: "You never really know what people think."
The invasion lasted for three weeks. There was little if any fighting that happened in the cities, but we fought our battles in the fields and the deserts and the mountains. Despite that though, we were outmatched, and though the media tried to suppress it, we were always hearing rumors that so-and-so had surrendered and so-and-so had decided to desert and return home rather than fight against the Auradonians. Then, with the Auradonians rapidly conquering city after city, the Grand Vizier declared that he and the rest of the Lost's leaders were going to make a final stand in Jafar City. Everyone expected our leaders to go out guns blazing and cast back the invaders to where they came from with their combined magical might. But then, come the day of the final battle and our leaders had just... disappeared. Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Jafar, Cruella de Vil, all of them gone. Not a single trace left to show that they had even been here. Was this how things were going to end for the Island of the Lost? With our own leaders turning our backs on us and leaving us at the mercy of Auradon?

With our leaders gone, our armies had no more choice but to surrender. Some were very much more happy to wave the white flag than others, but the end result was all the same: the Island of the Lost was going to fall under the control of Auradon. But even though our leaders may have gone, I think they may have had the last laugh as in their disappearance, they took a whole lot of the Island's magic with them. Auradon's invasion was now for naught; the magic that they had fought so hard to get was now depleted, leaving them little if any to satisfy their own rampant cravings.
Auradon declared victory over the Lost, and the King named his son Prince Ben as the Island's military governor. Then our very own people did the unthinkable and destroyed our momuments to our leaders. Back then I had thought that that was the people's reaction to our leaders abandoning us, but now I know better. I still remember the moment when I saw those people wrapping chains around the statue of Maleficent in the middle of the city square, tying those chains to a great big tractor, and then using that tractor to haul down the statue. I remember how loudly the people cheered as Maleficent was toppled to the ground, and then came the chainsaws. They chopped off the statue's wings and the horns, and then they began fighting over which of them would get to keep these pieces. Meanwhiile, other people had already began breaking off pieces of concrete and steel from the statue and its stand, and soon there were even more people jumping up and down on the statue. There were similar scenes of desecration all over the Island, with people fighting over bits and pieces of statues like the Evil Queen's crown, Jafar's cobra-head scepter, and Captain Hook's, well, hook. Those were very confusing times, and for someone my age it felt like the whole world had come crashing down. Everything that I had ever known was gone, and I had no idea of how to make sense of what was left.

Dad then took a job as a liaison between the Auradon occupation force and local small-time businesses. This job took him to Cruellaville, and he decided that it would be better if the whole family went with him there. Moving towns was, to me, yet another knock on my life, which I had previously thought to be quite safe and stable. I had to leave all of my friends behind, and even then some of them and their parents were distancing from us because Dad had decided to work with the Auradonians. Those first few days of moving to Cruellaville were perhaps the saddest of my life. I didn't know anybody there, and truth be told, nobody really wanted to talk to me or to anyone else in my family because of our links with the Auradonians.

The only thing I really had going for me back then was football. I'd been playing football on and off since I was six, and frankly, whenever I play, I can forget about all of my problems and just focus on the ball. Even back then, I had already decided that I wanted to become an attacker, a forward player. I just loved the feeling of scoring a goal, seeing the ball bulge out the back of the net and knowing that I was the one who had put it there. So I would end up playing a little football with myself during my spare time, and then I got noticed by a few of my classmates, and then when PE came around I volunteered to be part of the attack, and soon enough the Cruellaville Hounds came calling. I finally found something that I loved to do, and my family was very much supportive of me with pursuing this. I also made quite a few new friends along the way, which was nice too.

And then, just like our leaders all those years ago, the Auradonians vanished. The occupation forces, the administrators, every Auradonian on the Island of the Lost simply disappeared. Nobody had any explanation. A few people tried looking up news about Auradon on the Internet, but to their complete surprise there was nothing on there about Auradon at all. Whatever had taken the Auradonians away had also removed any trace of the kingdom and its citizens online. Not just that; the magic that had once permeated the air of our Island was now gone. We could no longer feel it around us, and nobody could do any real magic anymore. We were all at a loss for words. What on earth was going on?

Despite the disappearance of Auradon though, life on the Island of the Lost continued as it had before. People went to their jobs, students went to school, we continued playing tourney and football and basketball and all the other sports. A few intrepid souls decided to set sail for Auradon's last known location, reasoning that with the magic in the Island gone the barrier separating us from the rest of the world had also disappeared, but after many months they returned only to report that the seas had become all-encompassing, never-ending. But, as I said before, life went on.
And then, one day, out of the mist appeared a ship. It was straight and angular and painted all in gray, and it looked very much like one of the ships of Auradon's Navy. The people of Playa del Mal flocked to the ship, expecting it to be bringing news from Auradon, but the people on board that ship had apparently never heard of a place of Auradon, and until now, had never heard of the Island of the Lost either. The ship then took only some provisions and went back to where it had come from, and the Lost all went back to their own business. The day after that however, an airplane landed at the Jafar City airport after declaring an emergency landing. Like the navy ship in Playa del Mal, the people on the airplane had never heard of either Auradon or the Island of the Lost, and like the ship before them, once their problem was fixed the airplane departed for who-knew-where. And stil the Lost kept living like they had always used to.

That was before more ships arrived at our coasts, and those same intrepid explorers who had earlier declared that the Island of the Lost was now enclosed in a never-ending sea embarked on another journey, but this time they discovered that where there was once ocean was now a huge landmass, a continent, a place called Rushmore. How any why the Island of the Lost ended up near this continent of Rushmore we will probably never know. But for a people who had once held up well under the isolation that had been imposed upon them, the Lost were now hungry and eager to make contact with this seemingly new world that we had found ourselves in.

One of the first things that we learned once we had made contact with the people of Rushmore was that there was some sort of football tournament going on. Our new government, the one that the Auradonians had been preparing to take over the reins once their occupation had ended (and the one which did take the reins when the Auradonians simply vanished) decided that joining this football tournament would be an excellent way for the Island of the Lost to introduce itself to our brand new world.

And that was how I found myself playing for the Island of the Lost against one of our neighbors in Rushmore, Pasarga, in this Under-21 World Cup. To tell the truth, this was nothing at all like I had expected. Apparently they play football differently in this world than in the Island of the Lost. Here, we play with only seven players: one goalkeeper, two defenders, two midfielders and two attackers. But this world, they play eleven-a-side football. Why they would need four more players to play this game, I will never know. But I will remember the moment when I first set foot on the pitch for my first ever eleven-a-side game and I thought, "Why does the pitch feel a bit cramped?" Because that's what eleven players per side does, it cramps up the whole field. And maybe that's what the new-worlders want, for us to feel uncomfortable while they play the game that they are used to playing.

It didn't help that we were up against great and vanuted competition in Pasarga. They were, according to the records, one of the more successful teams in the competition, having won the cup four times. That, along with the fact that we were playing eleven-a-side, weighed heavily on my mind on the buildup to the game, but once the referee blew his whistle, all of my worries disappeared like always, and I was able to play my game. I scored the Island of the Lost's first goal, both in the game and in the competition, and I also got the penalty that enabled us to equalize when we were 2-1 down with five minutes to go.

I have to say, confidence is high within the team at the moment. We had shown the ability to come back and secure a point against what is arguably one of the best teams in the competition. If we could do this against the top teams, imagine what we else we can do. The sky truly is the limit for us right now. And I am quite happy to say that I am proud to have become part of the Island's history.

Di Bradini Cup/Under-21 World Cup Highlights & Results
Group E MD1 Review
@ Hatire Memorial - Capri, Valanora

FINAL SCORE
WCQ | MD1

SCHOTTIA 1
Fetlar 43' (P)

MERCEDINI 2
Talisky 58', Kadilyik 73'

Capri, Valanora
Attendance - 43,029
Mercedini had been out of action when it came to international football, but they didn't look to be out of the loop; as a comprehensive come-back won the day for the Golden Eagles with goals from Talisky and Kadilyik countering a Schottian strike which came late in the first half. The win sees the Mercedinians open their account on their return to the Under-21 World Cup after several additions out, with many of the Under-18 World Cup runners-up squad participating in the match once again. There was believed to be around 5,000 travveling fans at the Hatire Memorial Stadium in Capri, with thousands more expected for the second and third match days which will take place in the Valanoran cities of Kareen and Capri. Mercedini will head into the second match day in second place following Mriin's emphatic 4-1 over HUElavia. Mriin and the Mercedinians will face off in the next match with a win for either side pretty much locking up their advancement to the knockout stages. Schottia will face HUElavia in the other match of MD2 in Group E, with both sides looking to pick up their first points of the tournament.

It was a cool night in Capri for the opening match of the tournament for these two sides, who were both juggernauts of the IAC during their prime, but with Schottia falling away from the international scene and Mercedini snubbing the tournament for Independents for the past two editions, it was a peculiar setting between two familiar friends. Once tournament hosts, the two nations had since gone their separate ways in the World Rankings and in terms of focus and trajectory. The two were back on the same pitch for the first time since the World Cup, with the youth sides now duelling against each other, rather than the senior squads. The Di Bradini Cup had always been a sticking point for the Mercedinian U21 National Side, with previous U18 sides that had walked previous Sporting World Cups then becoming unstuck at U21 level. It was now time for the U18 side which holds the largest victory of any Mercedinian National Team (8-0 versus Sharktail) to try their hand at the notoriously difficult tournament. The group draw didn't matters, but the team knew they had the ability to push any team to their limits. The teams stepped out to tens of thousands of fans greeted them, as the cauldron of the Hatire Memorial beckoned.

You could imagine that two sides which had mutual respect for each other would be locked in a cagey affair on neutral ground, and that is what happened with the green and whites dealing light blows to the blue and blacks, and vice versa. Blue Strike Zoloroni pairing Adrian Talisky and Kian Berazzi were early eye-catchers in the match with the two capital starlets linking up well to carve a series of chance for the aforementioned Talisky, and his strike partner Vacek Jr. It was Schottia, however, who would create the lion's share of the chances and the possession as they pushed the initiative from the get-go. A new-look side had a series of dangerous chances inside the first twenty minutes. Most notably Freja Simonsen's low-curled effort on the edge of the box which was excellently parried by Merlo onto the post and out for a corner. The Mercedinian goal was similarly peppered for the next fifteen minutes or so, but it seemed as if the Eagle's defence would hold out for the whistle. However, a Nico Petrosino lunge to stop a Feltar movement was judged to be unlawfully impeding the play, which resulted in the referee awarding the penalty after a long pause and deliberation with the linesman. The fouled player was then allowed to step up to the plate and give her team a lead to take into the half-time interval. A quick and speedy run up was followed up with a low strike which sent the keeper the wrong way to open the scoring in the game. Schottia one-up, Mercedini couldn't stick it out for the full 45 minutes as they into the break a goal down.

Back into the action for both sides, with Dini chasing that one-goal lead in the second half, and they looked to be chasing after it like a dog after a bone. Whatever Billic said in the half-time interval must have worked it's magic with the defensive line and midfield all pushing up to chase down the ball whenever the opportunity arose. It gave Talisky and Vacek the freedom of the rest of the pitch to move and express themselves freely, even if passes that were linked to them were left wanting on numerous occasions. With all their chances, it was a surprise to see Schottia spurn the first chance of the second half, with a superb layoff from Simonsen putting through Archic who could shoot past the far post, inches away from the goal. That chance seemed to be the wake-up call for the Mercedinians as they pushed forward for an equaliser. Salvation finally came just before the hour mark as Blue Strike starlet Adrian Talisky opened his national team account with a clinical finish from the edge of the box, the goal had been coming following a long spell of possession from the Mercedinians, but a delicately floated ball from the midfield was headed back to an arriving Talisky who gathered the ball in his stride, and took a touch before firing low into the corner of the net for 1-1, with the team all running to congratulate the new member of a fairly accustomed squad.

The momentum was all with Mercedini from then on as they held the ball against a tiring Schottian side. Legs were weary on both side, but eith Mercedinian chants ringing around the Hatire Memorial, it was becoming more and more like a home game for the team in blue and black, which picked up morale and spirits within their ranks. A quarter of an hour later, Dini had completed their comeback with a strike from Ramsissil's Kristjan Kadilyik which was an opportunistic swipe at the end of a very scrappy move from the team. Dini were pouring numbers forward for the attack which began with Berazzi bolting down the wing, his inside pass to Petrosino allowed the midfield to get up in numbers. He laid the ball off to Lorano who moved the ball straight on to Eureska who was in an advanced position. A high floated ball from Eureska allowed no less than four Mercedinians to get into the mixer, with the Schottian goalkeeper getting in on the action aswell. A less-than-clean punch deflected off a Mercedinian which meant the ball was still in the box with the goalkeeper out of position. Several kicks to either clear the ball or take a shot were still deflected until a Kadilyik punt deflected off a Schottic shin as the ball trickled into the net. Jubilant scenes from the players and the crowd, they didn't care how it went in as long as it did. A very ugly goal turned the game on it's head.

That meant is was the team in green under the spotlight to get back into the game, and they certainly went some as the game drew to a close in Capri. Just like their opposition, Schottia put numbers forward in hope of getting a lucky break from their opponent's defensive line, and with nerves on opening night apparent from both teams, it looked like it was heading to a stalemate as Schottia peppered the Mercedinian goal time after time. Shouts for a penalty were waved away by the referee on numerous occasions as the time ticked down on Schottic hopes for a point on opening night. A last gasp punt forward by Bone, who was halfway up the pitch at this point, was finally snuffed out by the defence and gathered by Merlo who lay low to induce a final whistle. He kicked the ball up field and that was it. A gruelling first game for the returning sides, but a match which was the Mercedinians come out on top with a second half comeback in Capri. The final score at the Hatire Memorial; Schottia 1, Mercedini 2.

DI BRADINI CUP 46
Sonics held to a draw by Darmen in their first DBC match
Written by Makoto Sanda, a Hinodejin reporter in Valanora for the tournament.

EVERLIN -
The somewhat depleted ranks of the Hinodejin national football team found themselves having to settle with a draw against Darmen in their first game of the forty-sixth edition of the Di Bradini Cup. The game started out at a decent pace, the Hinodejin managing to have a decent hold of the ball but failing to really create anything with it at first, finding themselves a good enough opportunity at the twelveth minute. The Hinodejin national team really showed their lack of experience in the international level with players like Phishis Thipishatia and Thierry Cailleux committing rather pointless mistakes that, while not exactly being properly taken advantage of by the team from Darmen, made the manager have some sincere second thoughts.

Kagoname's team almost left the first half with the draw but a scrappy free kick near the box caused by Cailleux ended up with Billy-Bob Trudeau making an impression (and more specifically, a goal) to break things up. Thierry soon found himself stuck to the bench, being replaced by the more competent Megumi Himura while Kagoname chose to replace the Hylian second-striker for an actual striker in Yugo Ogami. In the end, Himura's presence clicked with the team and she ended up producing a perfect cross inside the Darmeni box. Ogami headed the ball in, thus resulting in the rather middling result both teams were forced to leave with.

The Hinodejin national under-21 team now looks forward to their next match, where they'll take on the Main Nation Ministry, hoping to get a win that would certainly make their way into the playoffs much easier.

ALL-HINODEJIN YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE / RUMOR MILL
Project Olimpo targets Dreamplanet's key forward Bruno Silva and five more
Written by Tomichiro Madara, The Hinode Club Digest's head football scout.

RAYNOR CITY -
Project Olimpo. Based out of Jutsii, playing in one of the finest looking venues of the Hinodejin youth football scene (the Pantheon), known as a key club, a trendsetter at the level, the follow-up to one of the most important projects in Multiverse football. They haven't been all that great, an ageing roster that hasn't exactly seen any new, good players and now faces most of them departing to the regular, professional level. Some say the fall started with Gitonga Kahara, others say the fall really started with Ava Rose Donaldson but the truth is that the team has lived off the talents of some more creative players like Jimmy McCarthy and Athena Inagusame. And now, Jimmy is already out and Athena is on her way out herself at the end of next season.

You'd think that this would be a bad thing but Project Olimpo is thinking of it in a different way: they have been snubbed out of youth players for far too long and now they're aiming for something better. Something good. Namely, the large, bright locks of Bruno Silva, Dreamplanet's number 9, currently playing for Sporting CD of the Liga Dreamplanet. According to the head of Project Olimpo himself, Kratos Dimitriakos-Hanada, Bruno is "full of potential" and could easily be a major player for the promising football of Dreamplanet. The nation itself did manage to perform amazingly in the regional level and do make a decent case for future World Cup qualification if patience fully finds its game. He's not the only player to have recently been sent an offer to by the Project: they also publicly announced offers to José Costa (at Real Island), Duarte Henriques and Antonio Bento (both at Coeferente), José Fontes (Libon United), Rui Sousa (another Sporting CD starlet) and Rafael Torres (Adina FC). It's not certain what exactly is the plan of Project Olimpo, whether they're actually acquiring the players or reaching loan agreements to have these players for their developmental years.

Another player from Dreamplanet that might be on his way to the Hinodejin Empire is Miguel Benedito, currently in a bit of an impasse with Velestria side Azurea. As the nation itself has somewhat crumbled, Hinodejin fallen powerhouse Mashu Hellowenia was reportedly very interested in wetting their hands to acquire the player for their line-up, another tool that might help the team turn their luck up to the level where they are most used to be: the top. Reports also note that Project Olimpo will probably look into bringing other players from across the Multiverse to form a proper roster, names like Filia Draaken of Mriin, Inigo Hernandez of Darmen (currently kicking at the Darmeni branch of Olimpo even), John Williams of Bolgano, Peter Robson of Hapilopper, Honorine Mathieu of the Island of the Lost, Silja Jorse of Sajnur, Artur Drouin of Lisander and the duo of Aurora Conti and Maria Sakaguchi of Huelavia are reportedly on the top of the interest list of the Project and they'll probably be having some talks about these players soon enough. Olimpo might rise again sooner than later.

Off to a bang, as they say. It's hard to have a better debut performance in a tourney than a commanding four-one win. That's precisely what the Corsairs managed at the scenic Rose Gardens, powering past an off-balance HUElavia side for their inaugural Di Brandini Cup match. Player of the match undoubtedly goes to Hermaan Maaraket, hot off the news of her loan to Kelssek club Hamiltonian Cambria. She had a strong connection with Kemnic Vol throughout, the two managing a throughline that caught the HUElavian defense off guard on numerous occasions and, the drives they generated were converted twice. It led to the opener fourteen minutes in courtesy of Manahaal Brimorii taking that momentum and running with it, as well to retake the lead when Kemnic turned on it and launched a booming shot from downtown that rattled past Roberto Gomez-Garcia's fingers by a hair. That was shortly after Javier Rodriguez-Fernandez's clean strike beat Hadrii Tiaant, which no doubt helped keep the nerves steady for the Mrii both on the pitch and in the stands. Hadrii would redeem herself from that point forward, making three excellent saves to keep the lead intact going into halftime. The HUElavians kept their team consistent going into the second half, apparently feeling confident that they were just as much in this game and it was only a matter of time before one fell for them. This was not to be.

The Corsairs truly came into their own in the second half, the rest of the defense forming a complete chain around Hermaan to dominate possession and dictate the pace of play. HUElavian chances proved scarce, and when Ivaars Korvein imagined a line he was able to will it into existence to force a boxside scramble where Beiren Reiger poked out a hoof for the third goal. Melissa Leite-Reis found one last strong attempt to bring the game back into 'salvageable' territory, but Hadrii once more managed to punch it clear and the resulting corner fizzled. When Beiren sent a free kick sailing directly in with fifteen minutes to go, the game was well in hand.

The next match will feature the Corsairs up against fellow day one winners Mercedini, in a game of winner-takes-all (all, in this case, meaning virtually guaranteed progression). Schottia will look to bounce back from a hard-fought loss to them in what will likely be their easiest matchup against HUElavia; should we fail to capitalize against Mercedini, the ultimate showdown with a nation legendary in both senior football and youth development looms large.

"So, did you hear, Jens Reiniger somehow got his way into the Vanorian national team, though apparently his application was not good enough to get the full managerial position. Only just got the assistant job, the head coach position went to someone from Schottia, think I heard that they even have a daughter here in the Eternal Empire competing in the tournament. How does he manage to fall up from the drop of the Nephara Premiership to the national team program of one of the best teams in all of the footballing world?"

"Sometimes it is just better to be lucky than good, I suppose. Still, he was a pretty good player in his day, made quite a name for himself over in Cosumar and was part of the golden generation that broke through the glass ceiling that the Wanderers were seemingly stuck on. Being part of that had to have taught him a few things about how to be a manager and he was pretty decent over in Nephara until his lack of flexibility came back to bite him."

"You think the Vanorians would know better though, having had their troubles with Tobias Möller from time to time, though perhaps that is why he was only awarded the assistant job. Hopefully our own manager will be able to get things going again with the full national team, bringing home the Copa was a good start. Yet to be held to a draw to open up the Di Bradini Cup by some team that no one in the dual islands has ever heard of, nor most of the other fans and teams here in Valanora is not very inspiring. The Young Wanderers are one of the most decorated teams when it comes to youth football, and while losing ground in the youth team is much preferred to that of the senior team, it seems both are currently losing ground and are on unstable footing."

"Fortunes in football are often quickly turned my friend and opening matches tend to be some of the most difficult for teams to be their very best in, given that they have to get their nerves out for the tournament. Which is what I think it was, just a bunch of nerves from a group of players that probably needed another week together before the tournament. The quick turnaround from the regional certainly made this a more difficult tournament to be prepared for, yet we have to make the most of it. Still, I fully expect the Young Wanderers to gather themselves and show their true form in the next game and easily advance out of the group and into the knockouts."

"That is quite a bit of optimism but I am inclined to agree, you do make a few good points and I want to believe that it is simply rust, a lack of preparation, and a good amount of nerves. To believe otherwise would be a great concern, given that it would mean that even teams that have yet to emerge or are no longer part of international football are still on the same level of our squads. If that is true, it would mean that all of the time and money that was put into improving the team, the infrastructure, and youth development across the entire country would be all for nothing. That is simply an idea that I do not wish to be true, that it was not all for nothing..."

OS SONHADORES GO TOP

Image

Dreamplanetian U21s remain undefeated with convincing win over Taeshan.

Amidst transfer rumours threatening to shake up Dreamplanetian football once more, and from an unlikely source too, Dreamplanet was able to get a brilliant win over Taeshan, putting Os Sonhadores top of the group with 2 more goals than Baker Park and a match left of the group stage.

The match started with a give and take between both midfielders, the rough tackling not giving much way for play to become too dangerous until the 10th minute when Wilhelm Nkitilina almost opened the scoring, seeing his effort tipped wide by Rui Sousa, eventually Dreamplanet did open the scoring as Bruno Silva was fouled in the box, giving Miguel Benedito a penalty that he scored with ease, allowing the Dreamplanetians in attendance to believe in a cup run, later the lead was doubled just before the break as Bruno Silva scored a wonderful long range goal to cement Dreamplanet's lead and give Taeshan a mountain to climb at half time.

Taeshan's composed playstyle meshed well with Dreamplanet's "free-for-all" attitude, the youngsters were clearly buzzed over their performance, however they were brought down to earth when Few Kennedy headed an equaliser into the back of the net, giving Taeshan a chance of turning around the scoring, this was until substitute Rafael Torres came in and got the final goal for Dreamplanet, tapping it in after Miguel Benedito's pass was deflected by Liam McKenzie.

Dreamplanet's U21 side now sits top of Group G with 2 more goals than Baker Park and they face the already eliminated Ko-oren, they just need a point to seal their passage to the Round of 16, can Os Sonhadores put Dreamplanet forward once more?

"HINODEJIN SCARE" STRIKES DREAMPLANET

Following the Campionato Esportiva 24, the public is resentful of Kita-Hinode after slaughtering them in the final, the best a Dreamplanetian team has ever done, however now the cultural differences between Dreamplanet and Kita-Hinode have been called into question after Kita-Hinode was reported to go after many youth stars, a notable one being Miguel Benedito, the captain of the U21 squad, citizens are concerned at a possible "sinister reason" as to why Project Olimpo are targeting Dreamplanetian players en mass ahead of the transfer window, with "Who knows what those "cat freaks" can do to corrupt our youth stars." being a typical response in opinion polls, the Dreamplanetian public is highly against transfers to Kita-Hinode, specially so soon after Dreamplanet being denied immortality this summer as a whopping 91% of the Dreamplanetians asked in a poll said No to players leaving to Kita-Hinode, since then this has been dubbed as the Hinodejin Scare by pundits but none of the players in question, nor the FA, have commented on this topic.

The scare has reached parliament as Vice President Carlos Alves jokingly said "First they steal the Campionato Esportiva and now they're going after the youth." when asked about the Hinodejin Scare, following that up with "Maybe we should give our athletes a bucket of water to defend themselves against those cat-based monstrosities." highlighting Dreamplanetian hatred for the cat-people minorities of Kita-Hinode, many have proposed tighter border checks on Hinodejin and Damukunian citizens entering the country as put forward by the Republican Party, although this isn't without opposition, former President Simão Silva dismissed the scare as "hyperbolic rubbish" and that the Dreamplanetian populace had "better things to do other than worry about football transfers to such an extent" indicating that this might be a right-wing problem, are Dreamplanetians turning into right-wing radicals or is this a real threat to progress?
