"There are no moral victories in football."

That was the oft-repeated refrain from nearly everyone in the Stars dressing room following the team's 4-2 defeat to Banija, the highest-ranked team in Group B.

Therefore, no one was celebrating the fact the Stars actually struck first through midfielder Clayton Wilson's second goal of the tournament, a well-placed direct free kick that sailed just over the outstretched glove of Banijan goalkeeper Lemuel Bereket in the ninth minute. No one was bragging about Jake Campos rocketing a right-booted shot past a diving Bereket in the 14th minute that gave the Stars a short-lived 2-0 advantage.

No one even pointed out how Carlton Sandt made 14 saves, many of which were highlight reel-worthy, or how he single-handedly kept the Stars within striking distance until the waning seconds of stoppage time, when Banijan striker Ilman Jawara banged through his third goal of the match to bring about the final margin for the Kadongo Kamu.

No, the Stars (0-0-3) were still seething over the defensive lapses that left Sandt out to dry far too many times, particularly in the 21st and 34th minutes when Jawara notched his first two tallies. A controversial call for a direct free kick in the 58th minute after Sarzonia midfielder John Taylor pulled down Banijan left winger Gitonga Kahara just outside the box. Banija manager Marcus Waters and Stars manager Bryan Ostrom got into a heated exchange when Waters argued the foul occurred in the box and deserved a penalty and Ostrom argued that the foul occurred outside the box.

"That's really on me," Ostrom said. "I made my case and the referees called it correctly. I never should have taken the bait and argued with Waters."

Kahara converted the free kick to give the heavy favourites a 3-2 lead.

A couple of players privately fumed over the attendance at Nottingham Pavilion, which saw only 14,092 in attendance in a small football-specific stadium which included a sizable contingent of Banijan supporters.

"It felt like neutral ground," one Stars reserve said, shaking their head.

"I heard Carlton get booed a couple of times. I was really pissed off," said another player.

As for Sandt himself, he said the team needed to earn the fan support.

"We're an Under 21 national team facing senior national teams," he said. "Sarzonia loves winners and we aren't giving our country one right now."

The Stars might be doing relatively well for a team that's in way over its skill level, but they're still in last place in Group B at 0-0-3. They've scored four goals, but have also conceded 11.

"We know we're in a difficult position when it comes to the teams we're competing against," Ostrom said. "We recognize it's going to be difficult for us match in and match out to compete at a high level, but we're going out there and we are fully committed to learning from our mistakes and playing the best football we can."

A question about whether or not the Stars would compete in the Under 21 World Cup got angrily brushed off by Ostrom.

"There's a reason we're competing here and not [in Valanora]," he said. "That's all I'm going to say about that."

VILITA AND TURORI 5-2 BOLGANO
The team is placed 4th in the table

VAT GOALS: Milaaso 2´34´ Katarnha 40´ Alabonni 67´82
BGN GOALS: Evans 3´ Deds 89´

After a hard controversy for Evans, his trip to Vilita could be interrupted by decisions of the FFB although everyone says that he is only a player who was looking for a challenge outside the horizon but those of Fedek ASS told him a great ¨Don't go please ¨

The match was not filled by the stadium, the best team in the multiverse against a new generation, just in minute 2 they scored a goal where the weather was already thrashed, when Evans went to take the ball he touched it with Frizzel and this was returns and kicks from the middle of the field, Gooooal, it was a surprise for anyone.

It took a little longer for a Milaaso center to make a double and later Katarnha placed a 3-1 for the rest.

a team exhausted by the trip and the problem could not do anything, Red Nines stopped almost all the balls launched by the Jungle Cats, Alabonni managed to score a goal from outside the area and do another later, Razor had nothing more if not change Evans, while the fans now split, some of them abused him and others applauded him, it was really something weird. Deds managed to make a second goal to finish a slightly less humiliating match.

FFB meeting

Scott: Well, because of the problems that are happening to us with Evans and Fedek ASS, we ask for a quick meeting here in Vilita.

Hingers: As president of Fedek ASS, we ask that Evans not be allowed to land again in Bolgano.

Scott: This is not a political meeting, it is sporty, do you want me to send them to League 3?

Hingers: He is a spoiled player for us ...

Evans: Are you crazy? Listen, if I want to go to Peto Blues I can do it since it was my decision!

Nines: You, sorry, we descend because we don't play a good season because of your economic mistakes.

To be continued

Introducing the Second Level

While the Top League doesn't have any teams relegating to the second divisions, there is a lively football culture on the second level anyway. Over here, there are 24 teams in this division, divided among a Northern and a Southern division, twelve teams each, to ease up on travel distances, costs, and the associated environmental consequences. There is also the Yoshiman League, formally also on the second level of the 'pyramid' but not involved in any of the promoting and relegating that goes on.

Yes, there promotion and relegation between the second and third level. All of these clubs are semi-professional. Officially. Practically, there are plenty of decently-sized teams in the second division that operate professionally. Not that there's any rule against that.

These might have been two confusing paragraphs. This is what it comes down to:

1. Top League (12 teams, professional)
2. Second Divisions (3x12 teams (Northern, Southern, Yoshima departments), semi-professional) worst three relegate from Northern and Southern departments
3. Third Divisions (2x12 teams (Northern, Southern), semi-professional) top three promote to Northern and Southern departments

Most of the prolific teams in the lower divisions have sprung up together with the golden ages of their regions. A lot of clubs on this level have been established roughly at the same time as Top League clubs from the same region. Think of the major port cities on the Bay of Ko-oren, outside of the Capital cities: Laringen AFC, Sterrenwolde FC, Chamiers, Amandine AdF, Planneige, Grimhof VV, Honingsweg, Rozenvoorde, Couziers-Olympiques, Oai, they all fit into this category. Then come the clubs from the strategic areas developed by the government - the ones in the East, that is. Guarding the entrance to the Bay of Ko-oren - for 4000 years or more the heart of the Ko-orenite state - are Castelo e Calvente, Coloruna, and about half of the Yoshiman Second division. That was the turn of the previous century. Quickly after, the Capital cities finally caved in and joined this 'sports' thing that was already up and running in the more international cities. This gives us April Bassin FC, Gehrenna FC, Senoren FC.

All remaining clubs are under 100 years old and firmly in the 'younguns' category - especially given that association football clubs are among the younger clubs of Ko-oren. Gridiron was already setting itself up for nationwide popularity some 30-50 years earlier, and rugby was already strong in the southwest and southeast. Baseball and cricket had already built up a culture and a legacy - and now finally association football rolls around. This gives us the clubs on the west coast and in the northeast - WSR AFC, Nyashawill, Linderivier AFC, Launott, Serevne AFC, Egevea, as well as the southern department clubs of Argyle Tuesday, Langward, Mawrystwyth, Llandy, Fercombe, Brighthaven Town, Grainshire United.

Last of all is the modern ugliness of the Mayara Soccer Guild. Mayara, sometimes named as the ultimate capital of Ko-oren for hosting a lot of government buildings, finally got itself a semi-pro club. Less than 20 years ago. And channeled a spirit of long ago by calling it a Guild. Which I'm all for. But 'Soccer Guild'. Hell no.

Excuse me for dropping all of these names on you. And all of this Ko-orenite history backstory. It'll all get relevant, I promise. Maybe you'll even internalise it - but you really do not have to. The KFA has long managed to keep promotion/relegation away from the Top League, but that system had to disintegrate at some point - and here we are, at another crossroads in our national association football history, where some of the larger semi-pro clubs are pushing once again for an opportunity to play among the top 12 clubs of the country. Of course, some rivalries will be broken up. And of course, for a lot of these clubs, money is the end goal. But more than anything, these second division clubs want some recognition for their 100-year-plus histories.

Ilman Jawara stakes claim to #9 role with electric start to AOCAF LIX

Image
Ilman Jawara celebrates third goal of hat trick in victory over Sarzonia

BUSUKUMA, NATIONAL CAPITOL REGION- Coming into the tournament, with so much change around the national team, it was clear that there would be competition for places. And that showed in the make up of the roster, and crucially, in the numbering on the roster. While Marcus Waters carried the same exact 23 throughout the entirety of the last cycle, from AOCAF LVIII all the way through World Cup 83, there was a raft of change for this cycle. After a raft of retirements from the national team after historic runs to get silver at AOCAF LVIII and bronze at World Cup 83, it would be up to a new set of players to help Banija finally get a gold medal at a major tournament on the senior side. There were 10 changes in the roster between World Cup 83 and AOCAF LIX, showcasing that now was the time for somebody to step up. And the unresolved competition for spots was improved. Nobody got the #9 jersey, for instance, showing that Ilman Jawara and Kabir Jobateh would have to compete fiercely for the spot.

Ilman Jawara got the first crack at it. He scored in Banija's 3-1 victory over Siovanija & Teusland, the only tournament warmup match in which he played all 90 minutes. He didn't play against Lisander, which was a match that was held on turf, nor did he play in Banija's shock loss to Tamgu. He only featured for 15 minutes in Banija's away victory against Xanneria, the new co-hosts of Esportiva's regional championships. But you knew he was ahead in the pecking order when he was subsituted onto the pitch against the two-time World champions Vilita, in a victory for the Kadongo Kamu that will go down as Banija's greatest ever win. He even scored a goal in that one. But while the young striker looks like the next big thing, helping the Hawabark Boulders successfully navigate promotion to the Banijan Soccer League, and even as he seems likely to leave the club for greener pastures, either within Banija or beyond, Kabir Jobateh is a worthy opponent for playing time.

While the young striker got the start in each of Banija's first two matches of AOCAF LIX, he did not get to finish either match, coming off at halftime in Banija's opening 2-0 win against Saltstead, and coming off for the final half hour against Banija's tournament home opener against Torisakia. But of course, as Banija resets its ambitions after a very successful(though trophy-less) World Cup 83 cycle, they will look for somebody to settle naturally into the #9 role. And while he struggled in those first two games, he really came alive and exploded against Sarzonia's U21s. Now, of course, let's get all the disclaimers out of the way- Sarzonia is taking the long view on things. Their return to the AOCAFs after a long time away, they are looking to develop the youth system, and have sent their U21s here, to gain battle tested experience in major tournament matches against senior level national sides. It is an interesting tactic, to say the least, and a smart one if you are willing to overlook the results of this specific tournament.

Of course, it can be rough. The lack of results sees Sarzonia firmly at the bottom of the table in their group, though its the early going, although it is something you can expect, sending a youth team to play alongside senior level sides. It has seen them struggle to turn out fan support- Sarzonian media reported attendance at the match at just over 14,000, well bellow the 18,000+ that the stadium can hold. By our own, admittedly non-scientific, rough estimates, probably around 3 or 4,000 of those fans were Banijan? At the very least, the Kadongo Kamu fans who made the trip to Sarzonia made themselves heard. Banijans brought their drums, and were doing their best to cheer their team on, encouraging the team to focus against the underdogs.

The game started out disastrously for the visitors. A foul by young defender Kuma Bultum gave Sarzonia a free kick, that they immediately slotted home. And just 5 minutes later, the Banijan fans were in shell shock when Jake Campos gave the Sarzonians a 2-0 lead, at home, against the World Cup 83 bronze medalists. Many Banijan fans, at that point, were going into full on panic mode. Marcus Waters was harsh in his post game comments on the Kadongo Kamu's poor start to the game. "Look, we have to go out and show respect to all of our opponents, especially ones with the history of a nation like Sarzonia. We cannot come out here, on the road, unfocused, just thinking that we can sleep walk into a win. We need to bring intensity and focus to all of our matches, and that kind of start, especially in the knockout stages, will absolutely prevent us from achieving our goals at this tournament."

At that point, it required cool heads from the Banijans to be able to climb out of that hole. It was a serious test- were they going to panic, and be on the wrong end of a headline grabbing upset? Or would they remember how good they actually are, and start taking the game to the hosts? Fortunately, it was the latter. And who was the centerpiece of the Banijan comeback effort? None other than the striker, Ilman Jawara. After a pair of poor performances in Banija's first two games at this tournament, he was a man on a mission today, and he showed his potential. He was able to weave his way through and around the Sarzonian defense, when he gave the Kadongo Kamu life after getting behind the back line for Banija's first goal. Sarzonia attempted to play an offside trap when a long ball was played to him from Namakula Kawesa, but John Taylor mistimed his step, just a moment too late, and not in sync with the other defenders. That left Jawara onside, who beat the keeper one on one.

Jawara was able to put another away in the 34th minute, when he buried a rebound after a poor clearance from the back line to draw the Kadongo Kamu level at two, and then he completed the hat trick, scoring his third in the match's final moments, finally putting Sarzonia away. It was the first time in this tournament he played all 90 minutes, and he drew plaudits from his manager for the performance. "Ilman Jawara played brilliantly today, and he must be applauded." Said Marcus Waters. "He was ready to play against these defenders, and he could not be contained. That is his potential- he has a nose for goal, he has the ability to get into the right positions, and while we want more consistency from him, we have to remember that he's still growing as a player. As he enters his prime, these are the type of performances that I would like to continue to see from him." Of course, that vote of confidence from the manager is big. If Jawara can continue to perform like that, maybe he can stake his claim to the permanent starting spot by getting awarded the #9 jersey after the tournament?

Marcus Waters also gave plaudits to the hosts for their performance on the night. "The task that this young Sarzonian team has been given for this tournament is not an easy one." Said Marcus Waters. "But these 10 matches will give them valuable match experience, giving them the understanding of what it takes, exactly, to put on the national team jersey and play for your country, and what it's like to play at this level. This is not the same as club football. It is certainly a challenge, but Bryan Ostrom has had his team ready." After mentioning Ostrom, he was asked about the argument he got into with the opposing manager. "Well, for me, I felt strongly that the foul was in the box. I haven't had a chance to see the replay yet, but it is no longer a big deal, I am ready to move past that- the captain converted anyways."

"There are a number of talented players on the other side, and this tournament should help them launch the national team forward." Waters continued. "Big plaudits to Carlton Sandt- he made a number of impressive saves against our attack. I believe he made 14 saves? It is an incredible number. We repeatedly kept testing him, and he answered the call on a number of occasions. He is going to be a special player, and I imagine that the senior side in Sarzonia have to be giving him a serious look after his performance today. Saves against players like Kahara, or Kawesa, are not easy, but he has lived up to all expectation. This team as a whole deserves an applause. They are a youth side, but they went toe to toe with our nation, who could have easily intimidated them from the get go. But they are getting the mental aspect down- they ignore the crest on the other jerseys, and play their game. They play their style, they are proactive, they play extremely hard, and most importantly, they play with no fear. Those are great qualities you want in a team, and it is hard to find, especially in young players. They are right there- you can be certain that the results are soon to follow, in this tournament and beyond it."

He got in one last thing. "But hopefully, of course, those results won't come in Busukuma on Matchday 8." He said that, garnering a number of laughs from Banijan press. Banija faces its 3rd away match in four games, as they will travel for a big match against the Pot 2 side Tropicorp, who are ranked 13th in Atlantian Oceania and are also fighting for a spot in the knockouts. It will not be easy, and nothing is given at this level, but three points here could go a long way in ensuring that this hot start from the Kadongo Kamu can push them over the line and into the knockout stages.

Flavovespia 3–3 Freeport

Flavovespia picked up their first point in a frantic game against Freeport, that swung backwards and forwards before the final result of 3-3. Both sides could have come away with a victory, and there’ll be a feeling in both camps that it’s 2 points dropped.

At Rovers Arena in Loxthorpe, Flavovespia kicked off looking to finally get some point on the board. Against the Pot 5 team of the group, the team looked to begin with confidence, but their previous 2 losses seemed to be hanging on their minds, as they struggled to get any sort of consistency early on. Indeed Freeport came closest in the early exchanges, with a fierce shot going over from 11 metres out. For Flavovespia, there were early nerves, and the home fans were feeling frustration growing.

In the 34th minute however, Flavovespia got the breakthrough, and their first goal of the AOCAF. From the midfield, Hall played a pass to feet to Mason. He was able to hold off the defender, turn on the ball, and place an accurate shot low into the corner, beyond the goalkeeper. 1-0 to the hosts, and the breakthrough had come.

The lead would only last for 4 minutes however. A dangerous through ball saw the #9 of Freeport hold off Mervyn Button. His shot was fierce and beyond the reach of Dobson, to get the equaliser for the visitors. It would remain 1-1 for the rest of the half, with all to play for.

Both teams saw this game as one they could win, and the early stages of the second half were end to end. Mason, Coleman and Hall all forced saves from Freeport’s goalkeeper, and at the other end, Dobson was hard at work. Very few expected this came to finish 1-1 with the attacking focus of both sides.

It was Freeport who got the lead on 64 minutes. A direct shot from a free kick around 25 yards curled into the top corner. Dobson could maybe have done better, but the wall didn’t particularly help him in this case, especially with the ball passing between the shoulders of Johnson and James. In response, Ian Johnson was replaced by Ronald Maddox, and Guoliang Fu replaced Henrik Jensen, with Hall dropping into the centre midfield and Fu moving into the attacking midfield position.

With 5 minutes to go + injury time, Flavovespia equalised. Close to the edge of the box, Fu was closed down by 2 defenders. However he got a looping through ball in towards the direction of the goal. Coleman broke free and with a leaping header, knocked it past the keeper and into the net. It was now 2-2

Just as injury time began, Flavovespia managed to finally take the lead, for the first time in what felt like ages. Maddox’s deep cross fell to the feet of Mason. His shot was blocked by a defender closing in, and the ball rolled clear of the box. Fu running in simply hit it first time with all the power he could muster. The shot kept low, and flew into the back of the net. Fu got his first ever international goal, sparking delight on the pitch and in the crowd, as Flavovespia now had a 3-2 lead.

Sadly jubilation turned to disappointment in the final minute of injury time. From a free kick 40 yards out, all 10 of the other Freeport players, including the keeper were in the box. The free kick eluded the heads of any Flavovespian, as their tall centre back knocked it into the back of the net to get the equalising goal in the dying seconds. Freeport had their injury time goal, stunning the crowd and Flavovespia, and it’d prove to be the last touch of the game, as there wasn’t another kick-off.

Flavovespia now have 1 point, with a tough away fixture against 95X coming up next. An outside chance of points, the main focus for the national team will likely be to try and not get the wooden spoon of Group F if possible, and at least get 1 win in the AOCAF.

TUMABLA NA NAMAN (WE HAVE DRAWN ONCE AGAIN)
By Narciso Abdulmalik Talavera

We have drawn once again in the AOCAF Cup. And once again the final score was 1-1. Does this mean something?

Of course it means something. It means that we no longer have any excuses left. We have improved as best as we can with what we have. Now it's time that we had something to show for it.

We have no problems with attack. And finally, after many years, defense is no longer the big problem it used to be. So then, what is it that is holding us back?

Tactics. Tactics is the only valid answer to that question. We have the players to execute the tactics that we need to win, but we're just not using them at the right time. We cross into the box when we don't have a real center forward on, and then when someone like Eduardo Estevez comes on, we try to thread passes through the legs of defenders, something which this team just cannot do.

This team also needs a consistent crosser. Someone like Weyverley is a good shout. But above all else this team needs a new number 9 lined up and ready for when Estevez finally retires. But who should be the one?

Arthur Supratno is out. Too young. And so is Felix Navidad. That one's too inconsistent. And most definitely not Marcris Mas. What have they proven from the team aside from their marketing value with the LGBTQIA+ people? I don't know.

The Cult of Motherbread is next. We should win this game easily. The draw against Mriin was great if you think about it. We could have won and had the skills and players to defeat Timuria. Tough tests for the team being, but it can only get better for us. It can only get better.

Red Wolves Routed

by Tufan Nursultan

Timuria 0–5 Baker Park
Jessica LeClair (10, 25, 40), Antonio Sotolongo (61), DeAngelo Simmons (79)

The national team failed to put up any kind of resistance as Baker Park emphasised their greater class and experience in international competition with a comprehensive 5-0 demolition of the Red Wolves in front of a slowly dwindling crowd at Tim-Enerji Park. An impressive first half hat-trick from Jessica LeClair left the Red Wolves well adrift before they knew what had happened to them and the team floundered for the remainder of the match. The result has left the Red Wolves with their solitary point at the bottom of the group.

Baker Park obtained a dream start with Jessica LeClair managing to intercept a pass between Hasan Maratov and Metin Boz on her way to rounding Iskender Nur and slotting home. The Red Wolves were gifted a chance to equalise after Eric Herrara conceded a penalty and got a yellow card for his trouble. However, when given the spot kick, Vatan Ercetin managed to practically send the ball out of the stadium. Shortly after his shocking miss the defence capitulated once again, this time the culprit was Yusuf Ihsanoglu being caught in possession by Antonio Sotolongo who put LeClair through on goal and she grabbed her second of the match.

Atilla Acar was given a yellow card in the 33rd minute after repetitive fouling and Yusuf Ihsanoglu got caught in possession yet again, but was bailed out by Iskender Nur who managed to collect the ball safely. The terrible half the national were experiencing would be capped off by a Metin Boz back pass that was far too slow and picked up by LeClair who chipped the ball over Iskender Nur for her hat-trick. The stadium had already begun to empty at this point as many fans didn't see the point of witnessing the second half.

The second half was a stop-and-start affair with the Red Wolves constantly fouling due to being unable to keep up with the pace of their opponents. Antonio Sotolongo added a fourth goal in the 61st minute with a long range effort squirming under Iskender Nur who should have done better. The scoring was rounded off by DeAngelo Simmons lobbing Iskender Nur who was horribly out of position.

The result leaves the Red Wolves bottom of the group with a solitary point and several questions to answer as it has become clear that the defensive issues that were highlighted during the World Cup Qualification period have not been solved. Elsewhere in the group Mriin saw off Lochario 3-0 and Cult of Motherbread recorded their first points of the tournament with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Sultanate of Oontaz.

What they said after the match:

Bekir Altingunes: "Honestly? We just ran into a brick wall. We couldn't cope with anything they threw at us and I'm sorry for the fans who came out to see this performance today. The players know what I expect of them and they've all fallen well short of that and you better believe this is going to be addressed. I'm *expletive* serious, it's time for this team to play like the team from the World Cup Qualifiers and not like this abomination. Apologies for the language, you can bleep that out right?"

Player Ratings:

Iskender Nur 5/10 - Had an awful night, struggled with almost every task.

Hasan Maratov 5/10 - It's hard not to feel sorry for him, but he was not a good player this match.

Metin Boz 4/10 - An utter failure in this match.

Levent Ahmedoglu 5/10 - Coped better than some might have expected, but still had a rough match.

Gokdeniz Dag 4/10 - Struggled, as simple as that.

Atilla Acar 4/10 - The energetic midfielder looked tired this match, not a great sign for him.

Yusuf Ihsanoglu 3/10 - Mistake prone and really making some question why he's even in the squad.

Ragip Eyuboglu 4/10 - Was routinely wasteful with the ball and looked lazy.

Caner Turan 4/10 - Failed to make any mark on the match.

Ertan Renda 4/10 - An unusually bad match for the usually sublime player.

Vatan Ercetin 2/10 - The less said the better.

Substitutes:

Ismail Burhan 4/10 - A poor player in relief, but was an improvement on a floundering Vatan.

Berkin Batuk 5/10 - Wasn't as much of a liability, but wasn't really any good.

Man of the Match: Jessica LeClair - Had a spectacular match and more than deserved her hat-trick.

Player of the game for Timuria: None. None of them deserve any recognition.

Schedule and results:

MD1: vs Sultanate of Oontaz D 1-1
MD2: @ Lochario L 1-4
MD3: vs Baker Park L 0-5
MD4: vs Mriin
MD5: @ Cult of Motherbread
MD6: @ Sultanate of Oontaz
MD7: vs Lochario
MD8: @ Baker Park
MD9: @ Mriin
MD10: vs Cult of Motherbread

The next match: The national team will return to its original starting XI for the match against Mriin who are currently second in the group and are coming off an impressive 3-0 victory. Bekir Altingunes will be desperate for some kind of result here, but will likely find that playing such tough opponents will not afford him that.

Goldhorns Win in Hapilopper Clash

It was exactly the game the Goldhorns needed to get back into the swing of things in the AOCAF 59 group stage play, as they defeated the visitors Hapilopper by a 4-2 scoreline.

Most of the build-up pre-match was related to the celebrations surrounding Thorsten Kramer’s 100th international appearance for his country. Kramer, the face of the national team since his debut as an 18 year old, was the main target for media attention. There was also some focus on how the team would line up against Hapilopper. The Goldhorns had struggled to get going offensively against Equestria, and had in fact scored only once from open play going into this one, a marvelous effort by Michael Ribbeck against Qasden.

When the lineup for the match was announced, it saw FC Teussen Stelburg man Ludwig Reichwein getting the start up top alongside Ribbeck, with Krasimir Kynev relegated to the bench for this one. Reichwein previously played 4 seasons with TSV Marzig and called the Vest-Marlebucht-Stadion his home, winning the President’s Cup during his time with the club. Asked if the start was somewhat for sentimental reasons, manager Gavin Hughes replied: “Of course not. Ludwig has really looked good in training lately, and I think he deserves a chance. You could say he might also have a little more motivation here to do a good job at a place that’s like a second home for him as well.”

The other changes from the Equestria match saw Lutz Daschner start in place of Pierre-Louis Lotbiniere, as well as Ingolf Kruger in on the left wing in place of Mario Kogler. “Lutz gives us a lot of pace, still, for a 35 year old, and we’re confident in what he brings us. With Ingolf and Mario, the plan all along has been to rotate them and it’s Ingolf’s turn to show us what he can do,” commented the manager. Otherwise, the lineup was the same, Thorsten Kramer wearing the captain’s armband on the night, regular captain Raphael Klopfer said to be the inspiration behind that move.

The ceremony for Kramer pre-match was a highlight for all involved, with all former national team players who played alongside Kramer present. Teammates and coaches from his days with FC Teussen Stelburg were also present. Kramer received a long standing ovation from the Vest-Marlebucht-Stadion crowd, and a tifo proclaiming ‘Danke Thorsten’ was presented in the south stand.

There was also an air of politics attached to the match, as there usually is when large events occur in the Pomorie/Marzig region. The sectarian divide in the city was not out in full force as it has been at Pomorie/Marzig Derbies in the past, but you could still feel a sense of tension. During the performance of the national anthem, fans in the east stand held up a tifo proclaiming ‘Marzig ist Marzig - Teus immerdar!’ (Marzig is Marzig, Teus forever!). That type of political statement was exactly what the STFA wanted to avoid, however, after that there were few other incidents. Overall, the Pomorie/Marzig Police and Siovanijan State Police did an excellent job keeping troublemakers away from the match and ensuring a great atmosphere for fans inside the stadium.

Once the game itself got underway, the fans had much to cheer for as their Goldhorns got off to a strong start in the game. Hapilopper, entering this one after a 3-1 win against Gyatso-kai, had to be solid at the back early as the Goldhorns used the great atmosphere in the park to their advantage and pressed forward hard. Ingolf Kruger in particular was a force, using his speed to open up several dangerous opportunities for the Goldhorns. Hapilopper keeper Rod Hughes made an excellent save on Michael Ribbeck in the early stages as well. Hughes, the new starting keeper for the Thrashers in place of the embattled Cooter Harris, made a good account of himself for the Thrashers throughout much of the first half.

The Goldhorns would eventually find a way to break through. Thorsten Kramer picked up the ball in midfield, sending a pass out to the wing and Ivo Romanov. Romanov used his speed to get past Colin McLain, bearing down on goal. Romanov, always good for a flashy moment, worked his way around Nathan Ellis and sent a bullet of a shot into the top right corner, beating Hughes and giving the Goldhorns a 1-0 lead. If there had been a roof at the Vest-Marlebucht-Stadion, it would have almost certainly been blown off by the eruption inside the stadium as the Goldhorns grabbed their first.

Before the halftime whistle, however, the visiting Thrashers would be level. Bobby East was the engine room of the Hapilopper side, and each time he was on the ball there was something in the works for the visitors. This time, it came off a counter attack: Ingolf Kruger having been tackled well by Nick Seward who then sent a ball long for East. The Thrashers moved forward in numbers as the Goldhorns rushed to get back, but they were far too late: East found the run of Ernie Stevenson perfectly and his shot beat Zhelyaskov cleanly and put the teams back on level terms, 1-1.

Coming back out for the second half, the Goldhorns had a slightly different feel to them. The story so far, in all 3 matches of the AOCAF, had been ‘several good chances, poor finishing.’ In the second half, however, the Goldhorns seemed dedicated to publishing a new edition. Lutz Daschner rushed forward, bombing down the right side, before drilling in a cross that was met by the head of Ludwig Reichwein. The hometown hero got his goal, and the stadium exploded once again as the Goldhorns returned to the lead.

Soon after that, a flurry of action in the box saw the ball fall to the boot of Michael Ribbeck. It’s rare that the Goldhorns’ all-time leading scorer misses a clear-cut chance like that, and this time was no different: he worked his way through the chaos to send the ball past Hughes and make things 3-1 for the Goldhorns. In the later stages of the match, Nick Seward brought down Ribbeck in the box. Penalty taking duties on the day turned to the man of the hour Thorsten Kramer, and Kramer perfectly took his penalty into the top left corner, giving Siovanija and Teusland the 4-1 lead in this one and another memorable Thorsten Kramer moment.

Bobby East, the best Thrasher on the day, would get his side a consolation goal late on to make the score 4-2, but overall it was a great second half performance by Siovanija and Teusland to secure the win. “I’m happy with our performance, we executed our game plan perfectly and we were finally starting to get a little more luck with our chances in the second half. All credit to Hapilopper, they’re a great side, but we had a great day today and deserved this win,” said the manager Gavin Hughes.

“One of the best atmospheres that I’ve been apart of,” commented Ludwig Reichwein on the game. He continued, adding “It was a special night, obviously, and the fans really added to that with the support we got. I know it helped us, and we’re glad we were able to give them a great show.” “You couldn’t hear yourself think out there, it was incredible to experience. Obviously we’re thankful for the support,” claimed Michael Ribbeck.

The most sought-after interview was, of course, Thorsten Kramer. “It’s a proud night for me, obviously, but most of that is because we got the win. I thought we played excellent, especially in the second half, and if we can play like that every game I look forward to seeing how far we go.”

The next match for Siovanija and Teusland is another Southwestern Showdown, as the Goldhorns face off against the Busoga Islands at the Stahlarbeiter-Union-Arena in Stahlberg. The Busogans, 4th seeds in the group, are 1-0-2 so far in Group E and come off a 5-2 loss against Equestria. The Busogans, who also lost 1-0 to Qasden, will be looking to avoid making it 3 losses in a row when they travel to Stahlberg, while the Goldhorns will be looking to build off their strong performance in Marzig.

We’ll have complete coverage as the Goldhorns continue their AOCAF 59 campaign. Come on you Goldhorns!

Government Faces Backlash and Protests

Image

by Yilmaz Ibrahim

The governments decision regarding the designation of the AOCAF Cup as an "Essential Cultural Event" has backfired according to polls commissioned by this paper from İlerleme. The headline figures show a drop for both TIOC and the Communist Party as their backing of the designation as well as their refusal to participate in opposition run debates drew sharp focus from the public, especially given the lack of interest in the AOCAF Cup given the national team's poor performances thus far.

Though it is not all doom and gloom for the ruling party, the 14 rebel MPs who almost defeated their motion to declare the AOCAF Cup an ECE publicly and "voluntarily" apologised to the Prime Minister and their party, putting the bed any rumours of a split in TIOC for now. Though insiders have speculated that if the downwards trajectory in the polls is maintained there may be moves to call for a Special Kurultay (conference) to determine if the prime minister still has the confidence of the party's activist base and their delegates. While many expect the prime minister to be able to win that vote comfortably, that may change if further difficulties arise so close to an election.

Following the national football team's catastrophic 5-0 defeat to Baker Park, more people focused instead on the opposition hosted debates. Frustration at the poor performances of the national team has translated into anger at the government for placing such an emphasis on professional sports and the AOCAF Cup. This has resulted in small protests in Demir and Tashkent, that have so far been peaceful, but have dominated the news in light of the national team's lack of success. The interior ministry released a statement saying "We praise the protesters for their peaceful conduct and we will not be intervening so long as they continue to conduct themselves in a peaceful and democratic fashion." Though some citizens have called for the government to clear out the protesters, they have so far resisted those calls and kept to the principle of peaceful protest being an absolute right.

The debates showcased that ALTI's leader Ulku Guzelhayat does not fare well in debates as she regularly stumbled over relatively simple questions, leaving her party's standing really diminished despite the gains compared to the last election she has delivered to the party. The SC also struggled slightly in the debate, with Alparslan Timurtas coming across as too aggressive in parts, though he likely shored up some of his core voters which will protect a handful of seats from the strong swing against them predicted by the polls. Naz Dogancay looked like a credible Prime Minister as she put in an assured performance, managing to distinguish herself from the other parties considered in the "right bloc" by retaining a positive outlook and not simply attacking TIOC. However, the best performer and by far the winner of the debate was Rahim Muhadow, who was widely considered to have won the debate and has delivered a significant increase in BAHP's vote share. Muhadow is now considered to be the most popular of the opposition leaders, reflected in his party's significant improvements on the last election. This has left both Naz Dogancay and Alparslan Timurtas in awkward positions with their own parties wondering if they should be replaced in order to compete better with Muhadow.

MD3: Chromatika 5-0 Nellietopia
Goals: Sierra '11, Kuzami '29, Conrad '32, Andisori, B. '68, Sierra '90+2
Starting Lineup: Ria; Ruth - Will - Anderson - Damjana; Thorben - Armageddon - Mora - Conrad; Vidal - Andisori, B.
Substitutes: Ilya -> Damjana ('56), Kelly -> Thorben ('72), Sierra -> Vidal ('84)

After every matchday, regardless of who had spent the day in goal, regardless of whatever the media stated about the rivalry between Mia Ria and Jillian Nier, the two Chromatik keepers sat next to each other on the way back from the stadium to the team's residence and compared notes. Having worked together for many cycles now, Mia Ria and Jillian Nier knew each other pretty well. Ria knew more than anyone - save perhaps Molly Thorben - how much Jillian had crushed on Nikolai; and how devastating it had been for the keeper when Nikolai had sailed off with the folks from the Northern Sunrise Islands. In return, Jillian had been Mia's confidant in many an occasion regarding where to play club football, with the Avonian league folding and the future of Chromatik keepers currently out of a club job.

This game was no exception. The Chromatiks had cruised to a relatively easy victory against unranked Nellietopia, while padding their Goal Difference in the process; both Will and Anderson played perhaps their best games as Chromatiks, and five different players scored goals. Though Ria knew that Jillian would likely get the starting nod against their next opponent - longtime rivals Cosumar - it was still routine, still common procedure for them to talk to each other, compare notes.

Per example, Valence Ilya still favored his left side, and purposely played to the right side of his zone - so that his tendency to run left wouldn't be too much of a hindrance. Young Valence had learned so much from Sandra Sybill, and it showed. Which would then lead to a conversation about Sandra, who was currently in the coaching system of the Real Azuris. Good for her.

Near the end of their visit, Mia looked Jillian square in the eye, and asked her a simple question:

"You sure this is going to be your last one?"

"Not too eager to see me gone, I see?' replied Jillian, smiling, "Yes, Mia. I think it'll be high time I stepped away after that. They have you, anyway. I'll play a few last seasons at Pelethas and then call it a career."

"What do you think you'll do afterwards?" inquired Mia, trying not to betray the wave of emotion washing over her.

If Jillian noticed, she didn't comment. Instead, there was a far-off look in her eye when she replied.

"I think I'll go start an orphanage. Teach kids how to love and be loved, teach them to love football," was her reply.

And, with an answer like that, Mia couldn't say much more.

BP in form to start AOCAF LIX
Frank Armitage
The Daily Mail Chief Soccer Writer

The Commonwealth National Team have started their AOCAF campaign with a perfect opening trio of matches—maximum points against Lochario, the Cult of Motherbread, and Timuria--in addition to another milestone; with three shutout victories in succession, the side have equaled a streak that has been only accomplished twice before in history, both in the pre-NS era.

Baker Park joins four other group leaders on 9 points from their first three matches; only Farfadillis in Group F have dropped point to date. The format for this edition of the tourney will see the top two finishers in each of the 6 groups, along with the best best 4 third placed sides, advance to the round of 16.

Ahead of the match against the Sultanate of Oontaz at the Olympic Ground, the Bees are reaping the rewards of expanding the player pool for this competition, as several player making their first senior appearances have provided a spark in each of the previous matches.

With veterans Eddie Wagner, Eric Herrara, Kyle Moyer, & Daisy Callum leading the way among each position, the newcomers have seamlessly fit into the roles that have been required. Manager Pam Scott has been thrilled by the response to the challenges given the squad.

"At the end of the World Cup, we looked at how we were going to approach the roster for this tourney. I knew we needed to bring some people back into the setup who had been left out previously because of numbers, and Eddie & Kyle were two of the first players I contacted. They have provided such great leadership so far."

Jessica LeClair's first international hat-trick sparked the Black & Gold to their biggest away victory in 14 years in the match against Timuria, and marked the fastest 3 goal burst by a woman in international play in Commonwealth history.

Mriin will be the opponent on the final match day of the first half of group play, and the Reavers will be looking to recapture the magic that saw them advance in the World Cup. Solara Vol is still the engine that drives the Mrii attack and only the foolish underestimate her ability.

95X 1, Krytenia 1

Another match, another draw. And how many times does a thirty-four-year old defender score goals in international matches? Chaya Concord-Fourteenth did, and had plenty of energy left over to play all ninety minutes of the match.

One thing everyone at the game thought was weird, other than the fact it was held at a stadium in the once-abandoned former city of Weeksberg, 95X, was male fans of either side were quickly escorted out of the facility and out of the country shortly thereafter, by a well-armed and well-outfit all-female security squad. Something very strange had definitely taken place in 95X.

95X 0–1 Flavovespia

In what is quite possibly one of the upsets of the tournament so far, and very possibly Flavovespia’s greatest ever international result so far, Flavovespia defeated 2 times AOCAF champions 95X away from home by a single goal. The result opens up Group F, and in some ways breaks the big barrier that Flavovespia had, of never beating a higher rated opponent, let alone away from home.

95X lined up in an all blue strip, with the black country name and shirt numbers. Flavovespia lined up in their yellow shirt, black shorts and black socks. A few changes for the line-up by Cole were made, with a starting XI of Dobson, Johnson, Button, James, Garner, Shepherd, King, Hall, Fu, Mason, Coleman. Prior to the game, news that all of the male fans of both sides in the previous match of 95X were quickly escorted out of the country reached Flavovespia. The reasons for this still remain unclear, but the atmosphere of the game certainly felt different.

On the pitch, it wasn’t a surprise to see 95X hold the initial advantage. The front 3 of Natalie Notgnirrah, Roisin Dart and Sydney Hardin putting the Flavovespian centre backs under pressure. Without Jensen in the midfield, Alix Ajax, impressive this whole tournament, was dominating the space. Hall and King, both talented going forward, were somewhat struggling to play a more defensive role.

The 22nd minute saw 95X come very close, Ajax getting the ball over the defence into the path of Hardin. However she could only go and blast a shot into the side-netting, when one on one with Dobson. It seemed like just a matter of time before the opening goal would come.

33rd minute and the opening goal came, but very few predicted what would happen. From nothing, Coleman ran at Chaya and Rhiannon Concord-Fourteenth. Both came out to close him down, but Coleman had the pace to get the ball across the box to Mason. Mason held off Aisling Ayala closing in, and got his shot back across the ball, beyond Lauren Hills and into the net. 0-1 to Flavovespia, and everyone was stunned. Suddenly the dominant team in the match were behind. This lead to a scrappy finish to the half, with no more goals.

Going into the second half, and the atmosphere was incredibly tense. 95X looked strong, but were behind and now had to score to not lose. Flavovespia, with their history of late match collapses, really wanted to finally hold on for once. Keen to add some defence to the team, Cole subbed off Fu and brought on Wolfson, with Hall moving back to the CAM role.

Roisin Dart had the first decent chance of the second half, but Dobson made an uncharacteristically agile save to deny 95X an equaliser. The resulting corner saw Chaya Concord-Fourteenth go for another goal in this tournament, but it was well wide. A growing sense of frustration was going for 95X.

That pattern was continued for much of the half, but that isn’t to say Flavovespia never had any opportunities. A 30 metre free kick from James King was only a small distance away from the goal, with Aisling Ayala not looking like she was going to reach it. Nevertheless it didn’t look like Flavovespia were likely to get another goal, an equaliser seemed more likely.

As time ticked on, belief grew that Flavovespia might actually pull it off. Neil Wright and Alexander May replaced Mark James and Mervyn Button to try and keep the defence fresh. It seemed to work, as 95X begun to run out of ideas, snatching at chances and not letting the play develop. A scare for Flavovespia when Sydney Hardin looked to be behind the defence, but couldn’t control the ball well, and Dobson fell onto it.

The final minute saw a last minute corner, with everyone going up. It was Ian Johnson who headed it away, and Steven Hall who just put his laces through it. That was the final kick of the game, as Flavovespia took a stunning away win at 95X. Jubiliation on the pitch for the players in yellow, as they had scored a major upset, and one of Flavovespia’s most significant victories in their history.

With this result Flavovespia go to 4 points, only 2 points off of 2nd place. They return to Flavovespia to play Krytenia, top on 8 points in the next Matchday, with Group F now looking much more open for all 6 teams involved.

Crisis Deepens as Red Wolves Lose Again

by Tufan Nursultan

Timuria 1–4 Mriin
Ertan Renda (33);Solara Vol(25, 48 Pen), Malia Yonen (50), Tia Mor (81)

A slow start has morphed into a crisis as the national team fell to yet another defeat. The 4-1 defeat extends the national team's wait for their first ever win in a regional competition, with many beginning to wonder if it will ever come during this tournament. The eagerly anticipated new look defence has so far failed to muster any sort of improvement upon the World Cup Qualification campaign or the Cup of Harmony, where it was notoriously lacklustre, instead it appears to have regressed severely and coincided with a complete lack of offensive production.

The match began as a back-and-forth contest with both sides creating chances early on, the visitors took full advantage of their superior height forcing a good save from Iskender Nur from a corner, before Ragip Eyuboglu stung the palms of Mara Solaani. The deadlock would be broken by a Solara Vol header clipping the underside of the crossbar on its way in. Vatan Ercetin would then find himself with a golden opportunity to equalise but found his accuracy lacking as the ball careened off the crossbar on its way out for a goal kick.

The Red Wolves would equalise however, with Ertan Renda fed the ball by Caner Turan on the edge of the box and his viciously curling effort finding its way into the back of the net. The slightly smaller than expected crowd cheered on their team as if they had won the match by simply scoring the equaliser, a sign of how dire the atmosphere around the team has been. The Red Wolves managed to go into the break level and with a slight sense of optimism pervading the stadium.

The early stages of the second half would quickly show that the feeling of hope was premature as Gokdeniz Dag earned himself a red card in the 48th minute for a reckless and borderline violent challenge on Solara Vol, who converted from the penalty spot to leave the Red Wolves floundering as a result of a breakdown in discipline yet again. The visitors quickly followed up with a third goal as a result of Iskender Nur spilling a relatively tame shot from Malia Yonen into his own net.

The closing stages of the match saw the Red Wolves' goal under siege with Iskender Nur called upon many times over the final 15 minutes, but Tia Mor put the gloss on the result with a well taken header in the 81st minute. The stadium once again quickly emptied as the stadium erupted into anti-government chants as the match came to a close.

The result perpetuates the unflattering narrative that Bekir Altingunes is overseeing a severe crisis and leaves them in an embarrassing last place in the group. With the Sultanate of Oontaz holding group leaders Baker Park to a 0-0 draw and Lochario struggling to a draw with Cult of Motherbread.

What they said after the match:

Bekir Altingunes: "I'm just speechless. I'll be thankful to get to the halfway point and really drill home what we expect from them."

Player Ratings:

Iskender Nur 5/10 - Made a crucial error, but did his job fairly competently, he can't be blamed for how bad his defence is.

Hasan Maratov 5/10 - Struggled plain and simple.

Eyup Mustafa 5/10 .- Had a tough time on his return to the starting line up.

Levent Ahmedoglu 5/10 - Has not performed to anywhere near the standard expected of him.

Gokdeniz Dag 4/10 - Got himself sent off for no good reason. Rapidly looking like a liability.

Atilla Acar 5/10 - Energetic as ever, but not very effective.

Azer Erdinc 5/10 - Showed much better discipline, but that seemed to limit his impact.

Ragip Eyuboglu 5/10 - Struggled to make any kind of serious impact.

Caner Turan 5/10 - Got a critical assist but his general play was dire.

Ertan Renda 6/10 - Got the solitary goal for the national team and had an average match.

Vatan Ercetin 4/10 - Struggled and snatched at his chances.

Substitutes:

Ismail Burhan 5/10 - Came on and didn't really make a serious impact.

Beyhan Enver 5/10 - Looked about as bad as the rest of the defence once he was on the pitch.

Metin Aytacoglu 5/10 - A bit out of his depth, but looked fit, if lacking in final product.

Person of the Match: Solara Vol - Her dominance in the air and her composure from the penalty spot marked her out as a player of true quality, a well earned honour.

Player of the game for Timuria: Ertan Renda - He got the only goal for the Red Wolves and didn't embarrass himself, his performance at least gives the team something to build upon.

Schedule and results:

MD1: vs Sultanate of Oontaz D 1-1
MD2: @ Lochario L 1-4
MD3: vs Baker Park L 0-5
MD4: vs Mriin L 1-4
MD5: @ Cult of Motherbread
MD6: @ Sultanate of Oontaz
MD7: vs Lochario
MD8: @ Baker Park
MD9: @ Mriin
MD10: vs Cult of Motherbread

The next match: The Red Wolves will be hoping to get back to winning ways against Cult of Motherbread as they prepare for an away trip which may take some of the pressure off them.

The losses keep piling up for the Sarzonian Under 21 national team.

That much is to be expected for a team facing senior national teams and even second choice sides for senior national teams.

Even though the Stars managed to hold Demot to the lowest goal total for a Sarzonia opponent thus far, they only scored a single goal in reply and fell by a 2-1 margin.

The scene in the Stars dressing room was morose, and manager Bryan Ostrom, not normally one to give pep talks, saw it and felt the need to step out of character for a moment.

"Team," he began. "I know we don't do moral victories here, but you have a lot to be proud of."

He surveyed the room and saw only one or two players looking up. Most of the faces were still long, dejected, sombre.

"You were expected to lose something like 10-nil each time out. You're playing well. Even when you haven't been 100 percent on your game, you're proving you belong on the pitch. You're going to turn heads. You're making Sarzonia football proud, even if you don't believe it yet."

He showed the team comments from Banija manager Marcus Waters, who was especially effusive with praise for Carlton Sandt. The Stars goalkeeper made eight saves in the match against Demot, with at least three being SportsCenter Top Ten-worthy. Ostrom also had a special announcement for the team.

"Lakiska SC has expressed interest in signing you," Ostrom said as he addressed Sandt. The young goalie's head lurched up and his previously downcast eyes were suddenly wide with disbelief.

"Whoa!" he said, and his mouth remained open for a few seconds. He hurriedly pulled out his mobile phone and saw a text from his brother Horace congratulating him on the interest.

The details would come later. The discussions with Wanderers athletic director Will Tunney about being released from his scholarship committment and signing a professional contract, thus forfeiting his collegiate eligibility, then the conversation about continuing his education would come later. The potential of looking for a place to live in a foreign country was a farther away idea.

But one thing was clear. Even though the Stars are 0-0-4 and have conceded 13 goals to five scored, they have not been embarrassing themselves against first rate competition. At least they had something to look upon as a bright spot.

Insights Into The Team: Senol Tarimcioglu

After the match against Mriin.

Senol walked into the managers office, concerned for his friend, he knew he would not be taking the teams cold streak well, but it was unusual for him to refuse to come out of his office for so long after a match. The players had already returned home, following his extreme outburst. Senol could not recall an occasion where Bekir had been so explicit, it shocked him as it did all the players.

"Bekir?" The familiar face of the manager revealed itself from behind his hands.

"Oh Senol. Hi. I was just... just-"

"I know what you were doing." He interrupted firmly, "You were moping around in here because we got beaten badly."

Bekir adopted a defensive posture, Senol had learned through their time working together that he could get inside his own head, often it fell to him to get him back out of there. "No I was just thinking."

Senol walked up to his desk and sat down, "Okay, what about?"

"Did I make a mistake?" Silence filled the room as Senol hoped there was more to that question. "I mean I come here with no experience, getting the job because someone with more pull than I'll ever have wanted me here as a fall guy and I played along thinking maybe I could make something of this team and then... this happens. You're my stats guy, you're the one who helps me pick the squad, how does this happen?"

He cleared his throat as he mulled the question, "Well there are loads of things that can make this go wrong. It's not our fault that two players got red cards against Lochario or that another one got a red card just now."

"But that's exactly it. It is my fault. Discipline and making sure those players are in a position to play to the standard you project. That's on me. That's what we agreed."

"Look." Senol began going over to grab himself a bottle of water before returning to his seat, "Have you ever played poker and just been really unlucky?"

"No. I don't gamble." Bekir responded deadpan.

"Well sometimes you can understand how to play something, do everything right and it'll just not work because things will align poorly."

Bekir sighed, Senol wondered if that may have got through to him, "But what are we actually going to do about this. I can't make heads or tails of what's wrong and I have journalists asking me non stop."

Senol sipped his water to think, "How about this: if we lose a match, let me field the questions, that way you wont have to deal with the press when you don't want to?"

Bekir smiled to himself, "That's kind, but I'm contractually obligated to chat with the press. Thanks though, it's good to know I can rely on you. Do you think we can turn this around."

Senol leaned back and exhaled sharply, "Is it going to be easy? No, but can we? Sure. The numbers all point to us being very unlucky given the players we have."

"You know I sometimes wonder if we just rode our luck really hard up until now and this is just the universe correcting."

"That's not how this works!" Senol scolded abhorred by the idea put forward, "You make your own luck Bekir and we've got 6 more years of making it to go."

Bekir shook his head, "You'll find a better paying job before then, but." He got up and collected a water bottle of his own, "To 6 more years and 6 more after that!" He tried to hit his bottle against Senol's who pulled it back sensing a rare opportunity.

"Whoa Bekir, don't get ahead of yourself, who said I'd want 6 more years on top of the next 6?" The pair broke into light chuckles as Senol hit his bottle against Bekir's. The pair seemingly content to continue and Bekir pulled out of his tailspin, for now.

AO Cartography Institute Staffing up

Image

Atlantian Oceania Cartographical Institute, Lopinka, Vilita :: The Lopinka, Vilita based Atlantian Oceania Cartographical Institute (AOCI) has recently been posting advertisements for new hires in the local and regional ad markets signalling a possibility that they are due another major cycle of regional mapping. Now based in Lopinka, the AOCI has resided in many locations throughout Atlantian Oceania and operated under different identities but has always served one primary purpose; to be the focal point in the region for mapping, charting, plotting discovery or assessment of all the lands, aquatic features and borders that exist in Atlantian Oceania. Whenever there is a border dispute, it is likely that a representative from the AOCI will follow closely behind to figure out where the borders are being drawn. A natural disaster or land reclamation project? AOCI will be there to determine what has changed. The 'source' maps that the AOCI create are then used by the general public from private citizens to major corporations and governments for transportation, geographical and economical purposes - so when there is a discrepancy between what exists in reality and what exists on the source data provided from the AOCI, it is incumbent on the AOCI to conduct new surveys and publish updates to the central mapping system.

AOCI has traditionally purchased drones from excess supply at the Vilitan Orbital Intelligence Agency to conduct its regional mapping but still needs staff on hand in Lopinka to maintain its mapping fleet, interpret the data and process the changes. While the cartographical institute does its own source mapping they also have a content and receiving department that accepts submissions from national entities, governments and private citizens who believe an update is warranted through the Contact AOCI submission process. With rumors that the AOCI drones are soon to be conducting a full regional mapping review, it is likely that those third party submissions will receive extra scrutiny from the enhanced AOCI staff when combing through the newly received mapping data.

The Atlantian Oceania Cartogaphical institute advises that anyone still having trouble accessing the most recent version of their map productions remotely, or, those who notice and error or omission in the source mapping data - can contact them directly at aoci.ao/contactus

MD4: Cosumar 3-4 Chromatika
Goals: Montague '31, Andisori, K. '61, '79, Conrad '90+2
Starting Lineup: Nier; Ruth - de Aea - Ibex - Ilya; Thorben - Armageddon - Montague - Conrad; Andisori, K. (C) - Victoriane.
Substitutes: Kuzami -> Montague ('58), McBee -> Ruth ('71), Vidal -> Andisori, K. ('85)

Every time Chromatika and Cosumar meets in the world stage, it's an instant classic. This time was no exception.

The Chromatiks needed the late heroics of Retta Conrad to carry them toward the victory after a shaky performance from Jillian Nier. It can be argued that one of the three goals let in wasn't her fault - wicked angling shot is hard to stop after all - but two others she'd let in by going forward to get the ball when she could've stayed back to let the defense come to her.

The victory puts the Chromatiks in a solid spot in the group - first, in fact. The last match in the first leg will be at home against Audioslavia.
Ten Through One - Chromatika

10 - The number of World Cup Cycles Chromatika has participated in, editions 73-81, 83.
9 - The number of the jersey that Gabriella Antonio, the very first inductee to the Chromatik Football Hall of Fame, wore. Antonio was instrumental in getting football going in Chromatika.
8 - The number of cycles that Keira Andisori has been a starter for the national team, a record. She also holds the record for most goals scored at 106 - the only Chromatik to score more than a hundred goals on the international stage.
7 - The number of players who have scored more than twenty goals for Chromatika - Keira Andisori, Kaytlyn Victoriane, Gabriella Antonio, Ki Niro, Trenn Rien, Rachel Hellion, and Meagan Kelly.
6 - The number of times Chromatika has gotten past the World Cup Proper Group Stage, namely WC 75-80, in a row. They haven't been to the promised land since.
5 - The number of defenders that Chromatika used to field in its 5-3-2 before it changed to the 4-4-2.
4 - The number of the highest Chromatika has ever ranked in the world, after World Cup 78. Since then, the team has slid back into the forties. It is also the best Chromatika has ever placed, taking place in World Cup 76.
3 - The number of Managers Chromatika has had in ten cycles - Franscesca Cortez, Lisa Amos, and Silian Parker.
2 - The number of active strikers who have scored more than twenty goals - Keira Andisori with 106 and Kaytlyn Victoriane with 69.
1 - The number of Championships that Chromatika has won - namely, AOCAF 55.

95X AOCAF 59 MD 4 RP

Postby 95X » Sat Oct 19, 2019 8:06 pm

Katelynn State had noticed something about Jordyn Foureleven. Though on paper she was twenty-two and the first time on the 95X National Team, she acted more like a seasoned player than a first-timer. So, being the sportswomen they were, they met for salad.

“You act like you’ve been here before,” State said of the junior Foureleven’s demeanor. “Your mom must have taught you well.”

“You could say that,” Jordyn tried to laugh it off.

State then asks a more technical question based on her coaching style. Jordyn gave her the answer she was looking for. State smiled intently.

“That was before I switched to a four-three-three,” State draws out ‘gotcha’. “I’m not trying to trick you, Jordyn, but I feel as if you know more than you claim you do. Please tell me how you know.”

Jordyn had to be careful. As Jordyn Third, she was banned for life. As Jordyn Foureleven, she had a second chance.

“Imagine you wake up and you’re a new person, with a new childhood. I don’t know, either, but that happened to me.”

State’s jaw hung open. It was like an old acquaintance had reappeared as a new person.

Going Places

The horrible 0-1-2 start to the AOCAF is now behind us a little bit, and we are traversing into the meat of the group stage. In a regular group stage, if everyone plays the rest of the group just once, we would have been done already. Not this time: this time, the AOCAF is hosted by all of Atlantian Oceania and we get to play 10 group stage matches. The headaches at the KFA's scheduling department notwithstanding (there are some changes in the year's schedule with so many added international games), that means that the Dragonflies have five more games to correct earlier mistakes and maybe take Valanora out of the Round of 16. All things considered, Ko-oren is definitely not out yet - but we're with our backs against the wall and nothing can go wrong going forward. Adding to that, Anthor are also having a huge campaign and even if we can get points off of the V-starting top two of Group D, they could very well be sneaking into the knockouts.

Ko-oren 2–1 Bolgano

Everything went as expected at the start of the Bolgano game. Bolgano, who have not lacked enthusiasm but did lack results and discipline at times in this AOCAF, scored a 1-0 through their target man Tom Evans. All in all, there was little chance that the 3-man backline of the blue and white team could keep a clean sheet. Liovani was resilient enough, Deds did what he could do as a captain, but on the whole there was very little support from the midfield to help out Gail Noldmand. Longchambon saw the weak spot, and went for it time and time again, with Vaugrenard overloading that spot where necessary. Tsuchida unfortunately disappeared behind Liovani, but any other player that could be on the receiving end of a cross (mostly Janoreirinthen, or sometimes Lampshire staying behind after a corner kick), was immediately dangerous. Bolgano did make it to half time with a 1-0 lead, but failed to make enough changes to turn the tide some more in the second half. With extra possession and some firepower (Murakami came on for Yokota), Ko-oren launched shot after shot at Nines. A low cross by Murakami reached Tsuchida for the equaliser after 62 minutes, and at the 65-minute mark, Vaugrenard gathered a loose ball, and reflected it straight back, and the difficult bounce and limited sight saw Nines let in a second goal. There was enough organisation on the Dragonflies' side to keep the 1-2 scoreline safe. It's good to see that Juliasterinthen rose up to the task in providing extra power up front - in the past, we saw these games end in 1-1 far too often. Three very, very necessary points, and Ko-oren is back in the top 4.

Dogsmouth 0–2 Ko-oren

The Dragonflies could turn a single win into a winning streak to kick off the comeback with a second win in Dogsmouth. Honestly, one of the less appealing-sounding nation names in the list of Ko-orenite away games, the Dogi have failed to make an impression in the AOCAF group stage. Caldwell Field was a welcoming stadium, but the field had seen better days. The Ko-orenites adjusted their cleats ahead of a muddy affair. In the first 10 minutes, the mud had claimed its first victim: Yokota slipped and for the second game in a row, had to be substituted early. Cole Train made his AOCAF debut, but the Greenblues lacked a serious bolt on the door now. Yokota's iron man status could survive if he's ready for the second half of the group stage, but more information on that should come out soon. Before the end of the first half, Breckinridge, Rivers, Van Schelven and Hergulauthen were all limping, but could play on.

It took a long time to break through the 0-0 - and it definitely looked like that would be the final standing for a while. Both teams adopted the long ball as the most effective way to advance, and it didn't look nice but there was no other way to provide the spectators with some chances at the very least. The rain continued to pour down, meanwhile, and the pitch wasn't getting any more accommodating. Janoreirinthen eventually broke the deadlock, firing a random shot towards goal with little respect for direction, but it went better than expected as Wickham couldn't push off the ground for a proper jump. The ball was well placed towards the right side. Wickham came about a hand's length short of saving the ball, which really was a victory for the field. Under normal circumstances, she would have gotten there. Then launching an all-or-nothing attack, Dogsmouth forgot to keep enough players back to absorb the Ko-orenite attack. With four minutes to play, Vaugrenard finally made contact with the ball enough to trouble Wickham, and with more power than accuracy made the goalkeeper pay for a second time that night.

The expected starting XI for the second half of the group stage remains the same, with Munks in goal, the regular back five, and Vaugrenard and Tsuchida up front. The midfield could be switched around a little if Yokota can't make it back in time. With the prolific defensive midfielder, we should see the regular trio of Yokota, Janoreirinthen and Longchambon. Without, we could see Train seize the starting position, or otherwise an improvised line of Janoreirinthen, Magrath, and Longchambon. The uncertainty is not helping us, but everything that we can conceal about the way this team plans for the final five games is an added perk.

4 MATCH CONCLUSION: AVERAGE PERFORMANCE, COULD'VE DONE BETTER

Locharian national football team ended the 1st Round on a happy note after beating the Sultanate of Oontaz 0:1. However, not all the matches were so fortunate like the games against Timuria and the Sultanate. The team suffered a heartbreaking loss against Mriin (3:0) and a draw with Cult of Motherbread (2:2). The draw in Kuhrit could've been easily avoided if not the shitty performance of our GK: one of the fans said. The teams hopes to end the group stage on a happy note as well, as the goal is qualifying to the knockout stages in a 3rd place.

One and four... Bottom of the group and in 31st Place in the tournament...

To say that Takahashi Hikaru was disappointed was a gross understatement . They had came back to MultiVerse stage after eighteen long ji to not only lose, but to lose consistently. If you’d look back at the original Roster posting on ASPN and scrolled to the Schedule Spoiler, you could see the result of their play. Five goals against five opponents who had managed to collectively scored eleven goals. Definitely not the way The Bisons had wanted to open up their ‘glorious return to the multiverse’ and yet...

Here they were...

Takahashi hadn’t seen Coach Tay’haai since he walked off the pitch. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out where he went after the loss to Siovanjia; right up to the box suites from the pitch, and directly into a room with President Vhett and several other members of the National Sports Council. He didn’t know what would be said in that room, and frankly, he only wished he could be a gadfly on the wall to hear those conversations.

I wonder if Tay’haai will even come down...I wonder if Haru’alor would take over should Tay’haai get the door

Probably not the best thoughts for the Captain of the National Team to be thinking, and yet, here he was. The Bisons had managed to win their first home game against Qasden, albeit in the typical fashion of a team that was being outplayed for the majority of the game and just happened to get a lucky pair of goals in. Takahashi didn’t want to take away from Song’s equalizer and Skirata’s game-winner, but where were they for the last two games? No one had broken through the Equestrian wall, but they marched through The Bisons three times for their second strongest victory since the 8-1 beating that Hapilopper took. And they are doing better than us here...

Then what happened tonight? Where was our defense when we needed them? Where was I when we needed me? I let that game winner get right pass me, and I wasn’t even able to stop their player. I didn’t even catch the
etyc’dikut’s name as he ran by me...

Maybe this was the mental stress the Doc was talking about. He had said earlier to Assistant Coach Wong that many of us were showing... what was it ... battle fatigue? That the day off tomorrow would be best spent not in practice, but allowing us to roam the streets of Beijing, which all of the Captains – Takahashi, Itawaku, and Ma – had unanimously vetoed, before being told by Tay’haai that we would not be practicing tomorrow.

Maybe it would do us good if Vhett fired Tay’haai...

As Head Coach Kad’e Tay’haai stepped into the Suite, he could not help but wonder why he had been summoned. If this was how they were going to fire him, he had hoped for a bit of Mandalorian barbaric tradition; in the ancient times, when the Mandalorian Clans were not united, how leadership would be challenged was through a strict trial-by-combat between two opposing alor. Whoever lived would then be the alor – or ruler – of both clans, which would then be merged into a Tsad’aliit or an House. They would keep their lands, their names, but all decisions regarding the conquered clan would be made by the leaders of the conquering clan.

At least Wong isn’t here to kill me Tay’haai laughed as he scanned the room. No ceremonial blade, no other coaching staff. Just President Vhett Boba, Vice President Huang Shengyi, and a few other older faces he didn’t quite recognise.

”Kad’e,” spoke Vhett, motioning to an empty seat overlooking the pitch, [b]”Take a seat.”

Tay’haai moved to the open seat, situated between Vhett and Huang, He lowered himself, the plates of his traditional armor settling in. He could see the stadium was mostly empty, with most of the fans of both teams having left an hour or so prior. His own team was in their locker room, with Wong Haru – the Assistant Coach and former Bisons defenseman of 11 World Cups – giving the post-match debriefing. Tay’haai had wished he could have been there, but alas, he was summoned up for this meeting.

”Well, my son,” Vhett spoke, patting Tay’haai on the back, ”That certainly didn’t go according to plan.”

“No, sir...”
sighed Tay’haai, ”It did not.”

“We are having a rough start here for the AOCAF,”
Madame Huang herself sighed, turning in her seat so as to face Tay’haai. ”We are one-and-four.”

“And last place in the group, Madame,”
Tay’haai was a bit curt as he turned to face Huang. ”And I guess you’d also like to tell me the sky is blue, right?” Huang realised her comment was a bit redundant, especially to someone who had a front-row seat to the clinics taught by the other teams in the group.

”Now, now, Kad’ika,” Vhett motioned with his hands out and moving slightly up and down, a common gesture in Avatarian culture to mean “calm down”. ”We are not here for a fight or to rehash any of the past games.”

“Oh sir?”
Tay’haai turned to Vhett. ”Then why am I here?”

“To get your prospective. Just like I said back in Republic City... Our first World Cup, after coming out of the Baptism of Fire three-two-and-two, we took eight games to get a win. You only took two...”

“And then loss the next two.”
Tay’haai spoke. ”So now we go into the second leg of qualifying, in the bottom of our group with no hope at advancing unless every other team completely falls apart.”

“Well, I wouldn’t say every team...”
Vhett joked. ”But yes, it would take a bit of a miracle for us to make it into the next stage.”

“Then what is the plan, Tay’haai?”
Huang spoke up, “Do we burn ourselves out trying to play stronger against clearly-better teams?”

“No, Madame,”
Tay’haai sighed. ”We simply play our best and do what we can and try to get off the bottom. I will still consider AOCAF a success if we win even just one more game.”

“I’d like us to win more than one,”
laughed Vhett as he reached for his drink. Even from where he was, Tay’haai could recognise the sweet smell of tihaar and longed for a glass himself. Seeming to have read his mind, Vhett reached for the tall black bottle on the table next to him and poured a tall glass before handing it to Tay’haai. He accepted the glass without a word, and quickly put the glass to his lips and emptied it. It was a sweet liquid, made from fermented fruits native to the southern islands of Gyatso-kai. However, it was near 160 proof, and the sharp burn of the tihaar as it went down made most of those who had never drank it near throw it right back up. But for Tay’haai, he swallowed without so much as a sniffle. Vhett smiled, and poured another glass for Tay’haai.

”Then let us win more than one,” Tay’haai toasted as he raised his glass. ”May the Spirits shine on us at least once more... maybe twice.”
