The troubling tennis times [TTTT]

Postby Ferret Civilization » Thu Aug 01, 2019 10:52 am

This will be the latest step in the Ferret sports experiment, since there has been no events whatsoever when it comes to international tennis it was decided to try to host something hopefully not too laughable ourselves. So welcome to Ferret Civilization, apologizes for not having a name for this but it was kind of made up on the fly, and because that is the case this will not be in anyway connected to the NSTT that is kind of procrastinating on life support. Rather this will be a gauge to see how eager some are about the world of tennis continuing on here in a playful manner. In order to keep things fair and not connected to the parent organization that inspired this, those that decide to humor us will be playing on a carpet courts out in the middle of practical nowhere on a farm. That means no spectators unfortunately, only players and their coaches, staff, or some officials will be allowed in if they choose to do so.

Kind of OOC business

Now since I have no experience actually scorinating stuff I will not be taking part in this, like it says above this is just to gauge interest since so far it seems like there is but no one has the time to actually be the host. This is what happens when that is the case, sorry it came to this. Been thinking about whether or not I should do this the standard NSTT way despite not connecting with it here or try something completely off the wall… Since it was left up to me it seems we are going to go off the wall, instead of an elimination tournament lets try and play around a bit, after all this is just for fun. All players will get to play against each other and once that is over whoever won the most can unofficially call themselves winner or something. Did that scare everyone away yet, hope so, then this joke can go ahead and sink to its grave.

Signup stuff and rules

- Males, females, non-humans, and mixed doubles are allowed to sign up.
- Try to keep things small, so four singles and two doubles should do for this.
- There will be an RP bonus to make up for no one having a skill boost here.
- Using the Xkoranate thing, if that makes anyone feel better somehow.
- Give signups a week, no, two weeks maybe and then go on from there cutting off once a day hopefully. Not that that has ever been hard and fast here in the tennis realm.

I was just thinking that it seems like there's a tennis vacuum on NS sport, very happy to see this. I'll probably try to host a tournament of my own in Reçueçn sometime, but I'm moving in a couple weeks and don't know what my schedule will be like, so we'll see how that goes. In the meantime:

Sees two old timers sign up and two more as well on top of that, in the course of three days. Yikes this is already going way ahead of my expectations, after checking all the rosters I hereby say they are all approved and now I have a workload to work with. Yay. Still plenty of signup time left to go for anyone else thinking it over whether they want to be apart of a possible disaster or not.

Well, time to hype myself up I suppose now that another old timer signed themselves up for this. Let me see here, another three people to accept, one including their own leader, overpowered, I look forward to that. 28 singles and 14 doubles, definitely enough to fill the month up with the competition. Woo, going to be a handful, signups still open, probably going to have to close it down by the end of the 7 days since this is going better than expected if things keeping going at this pace.

Alright two very new people and with that this kind of got silent, with both the above accepted that brings the total to 36 singles and 18 doubles. It is not no clean 40 and 20 but I suppose that will do without trying to foolishly overload myself more. With this one week has passed and I can probably take the rest of the month to do the actual event and see just how RPing goes. So that means signups are closed and, well it is the 7th for me, get the IC up on the 9th, start scoring on the 10th and go about two matches a day until the 30th. Hopefully you all are ready for this to go south!

Well I got that IC thread up now, sometime tomorrow later than when this was posted I will cutoff and get this event underway. Good luck, I know I need it. If I mess up in anyway feel free to call me out here in the most negative tone or way you want, I will understand.

Have some confidence in yourself! It's looking great!

The one thing that might be nice is if you could include trigrams with the players' names? That would make it a lot easier to search the posts and stuff. Don't worry about it if it's too much work though.

Also apologies in advance because it's looking like I might have trouble finding time to RP: I'm leaving for an extended orientation session for my new job on Tuesday, and before that as well I'm very busy. I'll try to come up with something if I do have time, though.

First mistake pointed out, Will Ubermesh does belong to ZKI, had it right in the next day schedule and even gave him the bonus for your writing Zektovia. Only mistake was putting the wrong trigram in and just been copying it down this whole time without noticing it. Though it is fixed now, and nothing else has been affected by that mistake luckily enough for me.

Thanks so much Ferret Civilization for such a fun tournament! A competition of such size was obviously a lot of work and you pulled it off without a hitch, so thanks again! It can seem pretty thankless especially when I know for myself at least, and I assume others, I was too busy to rp as much as I'd hoped. But it was definitely much appreciated!

Thanks to the other competitors as well! Your rps made the whole thing more entertaining and fun. Keep an eye out--I'm hoping to run a tennis tournament of my own as soon as my rl schedule normalizes a bit. It'll definitely be a much smaller scale though. (I'm also hoping to host it somewhat regularly so I can implement a ranking system for it.)
