Raj Kik named best West Phoenician Forward after leading the Daredevils to victory on match day two by scoring 12 goals to ease West Phoenicia to a 18-12 victory against Sarzonia.

Raj's hard and fast skill helped win the day against Sarzonia defenders, his approach to looking after the ball as if it was a fragile egg is a skill Coach Roberto Taylor has drilled into all his forward team members. The Daredevils have evolved from aggressively handling the ball to it reached the goals, to keeping the ball in play in their part of the field as long as possible to allow defenders and mid fielders the break they need to regroup.

Raj has learnt to master this skill and has rose to become an important assets for the team. Fellow forwards Jason Loader and Adem Nahmer have learn alot from him and have become a cohesive unit in passing back and forth with a unified vision of stopping defenders from blocking them from doing the job they need to do. Raj is known for his flawless roll dodge and face dodge that often throws off opponents defenders.

Here is a player that will continue to rise in the ranks, having played every match since the The Daredevils started playing at an international level. His agent has also confirmed that Raj Kik will be resigning a new three year contract after the end of this championships.

Postby Sarzonia » Sun Jun 30, 2019 12:39 pm

The second matchday saw Sarzonia coach Carter Whitlock close the dressing room door.

He wasn't used to hearing coaches scream in his hall of fame career as a midfielder, whether it was for Sarzonia's domestic league or for the Sarzonian national team. He was used to being on teams that won. A lot.

Now, the team was 0-2 and the team's defence shit the bed against West Phoenicia in an 18-12 loss that placed the Stars at the bottom of the Group D table.

The fuming Sarzonian coach looked in defender Bruce Taylor's eyes and saw they were bloodshot. He couldn't tell if it was from being upset over being personally responsible for four of Raj Kik's unheard of 12 goals or from carousing until 4 a.m. the night before. He missed the team's 6 a.m. wake up call for breakfast and only had time to grab a banana and a bottled smoothie from the breakfast room before he boarded the team bus. Even switching defenders didn't stop the onslaught of goals.

Whitlock looked around and saw attackman Matt Archer and saw his eyes were also bloodshot. He also grimaced from what the coach would find out later was a bruise after getting into a bar fight. Whitlock made it a point to ensure they got all the facts before announcing suspensions. After all, he was a player himself at one time and he enjoyed nights on the town with his teammates, and with friends and family.

"New rule," Whitlock said. "Curfew at 11 from here on out," he said. "We're going to start treating every match like it's the knockouts. We can't afford to be off our game because we've been out at the bars too long."

After a 24-minute tonguelashing, Whitlock snapped, "Dismissed!" causing the players who'd finished showering and had gotten dressed to scatter. The players who were still in various stages of undress quickly got dressed and departed the dressing room for a sombre team bus.

Defensive coordinator Bill Harbour gave his boss and longtime teammate Whitlock a look.

"Carter," he said.

Whitlock glared back until he realized how harsh the look he had on his face was, then consciously softened the look on his face.

"We let you down," he said. "We'll get started at 7 tomorrow morning."

"No," Carter said. "I'm the head coach. It's my fault we weren't ready. We should have done a better job of preparing, especially for Kik."

"That's on me," Harbour said. "I forgot to do bed check."

"That's on me," goalie coach Bradley Morse said. "I was supposed to do bed check. I was on the phone with my daughter."

"Hey, it's not productive to point fingers. Let's reset. We've still got four matches to go and we've still got a shot at the knockout rounds."

When the coaches reached the team bus back to the hotel, they knew from the pin drop silence how glum the team's mood was. They wouldn't want to go out for a while at least.

Terre Septentrionale loses in Lacrosse debut

Oceana, Osheana - Everyone in Terre Septentrionale was waiting for our debut in international competitions but the enthousiasm didn't last long. In game one against Banija in Ezra, the Nordiques lost 13-2, with only Mason O'Rourke and Alison Blackwolf scoring goals for the Reprezentacja Nordycki. Septentrionaux players, being used to play box lacrosse, were lost on this large field. In game two, the Northmen weren't better against Qasden, and lost 21-9. This time Carson Maloney led the offense with 3 goals. The other goals came from Alison Blackwolf (2), Alyssa Smelker, Mason O'Rourke, Rowan McKinney, and Jake Richards. In both games, the opposite team was controlling the game and the Septentrionaux never came close to take the lead.

On matchday three, the Nordiques will receive South St Maarten in Lima, Baker Park. Both teams will be fighting for the 3rd place in group C, so this match against South St Maarten will be an important one for the Reprezentacja Nordycki. Many Northmen have travelled to Baker Park and are expected to attend the game. If you didn't travel to Baker Park, you can still watch the game on NordSports in French, PolSports in Polish and SportsNorth in English. PolSports is a contraction of Polnocny Sports which neams "North Sports".

Two cycles out and you're off?

Natanians and Nosts just lost its second game at the thirty-first edition of the World Lacrosse Championships. And this time it was a humiliating fourteen to five defeat to Bolgano. This match also sunk our team straight into the bottom of the group, with no victories so far,and a hard game in the future.Surely the players might just be suffering from pressure, for they did not play comnpetitively for some three years, but, the team is composed of professionals and they won't just really disconcentrate under a little bit of pressure, even though this may be much pressure actually. The thing is:they need to win, otherwise we are lost!

The Lacrosse Lamentations
with Aisling Keane

Well, ladies and gentlemen, this is it. The moment we've all been waiting or even dreading for. Lacrosse mania is once again back in vogue, thanks entirely to the latest edition of the World Lacrosse Championships. Can you believe that we've already played thirty editions of this thing? My God, it all feels so long ago that we first appeared in this thing, and now we've made it ten straight appearances! And out of those, we've picked up medals in five occasions! Really, can you believe all this?

Okay, now that we've all calmed down, let's take a closer look at what we have here right in front of us. So right off the bat, it appears as if two of the four top teams from the last WLC (30, in case you were wondering) are not playing in WLC 31 right now. Yes, you read that right. Two of the top four teams from last time are not here this time. Who are the missing ones? Why, they are none other than Cheergirls and Wrexwic! Yes, you read that right again. Wrexwic, the defending champions, are not here to actually defend their championship! Why in the world would they do that? Maybe they think that by not actually defending their championship, they get to keep it? Surely they're not that daft. I mean, I would understand it if it was just Cheergirls. I've known some cheerleaders; hell, I've been one, in a former life (that was ten to fifteen years ago probs) and let's just that it's easy to get distracted as a cheerleader. Don't know how it is with Cheergirls but I know that it's very easy to get distracted here in my neck of the woods. Take my word for it. But Wrexwic... oh no bb what is u doin? Will we be expecting a comeback from you guys?

Now how about our group? Who do we got in our group? Well, let's see. Two familiar faces and one that I believe I have never seen before. Cassadaigua; we know who they are. They are the nation in pink. Northwest Kalactin? They're familiar; at least they sound familiar. I think I might have seen them during the Handball World Cup. But the East Tennessee Smoky Mountains? Can't say that I've ever heard of them before. Oh well. Some might say that we've been given an easy group and a quick ticket to the playoffs here, but I respectfully disagree. I believe Cassadaigua is going to be our constant rival in terms of qualifying from this group, and Northwest Kalactin can throw a banana peel down our path if they so wanted. And because I have little if any info to go on with regards to the ETSM (that's what we're calling them now) that can only mean that they're going to jump us when we least expect them (most probably when we're probably in need of one more win to slip into the playoffs). That's how I'm calling it, ladies and gents. Aisling's predictions are here, and I am now setting them in stone. But seriously. I believe us and Cassadaigua are going to battle it out for the top two places, while Northwest Kalactin and ETSM will fight for the right to not be at the bottom. Exciting times! (Not really.)

And I think that does just about it for the WLC. What else is there left to discuss? I don't know. Apparently there's now talks of a Coalition Lacrosse League, after the moderate success of the APOC lacrosse teams in the earlier Olympics. I'm not really sure what to think about this. You can say that I'm a little bit on the fence, but really, most of my body is still in the "probably not a very good idea" side of things. Remember the whole fiasco with the RUCT, the Rugby Coalition and the Fleftic Rugby Union? Cousin Graham has covered this news in his side of the website, but just ICYMI, the FRU got in trouble with the RUCT for entering the Jokers and the Oxen as Abanhfleft's teams when we already had a bunch of teams playing in the Rugby Coalition. Some guys raised their concerns, there was a little bit of a brouhaha, and in the end the Premiership is never going to be able to send teams to the RUCT. Lovely stuff. At least that's how Cousin Graham described it to me. Never really did get why some people love watching other people crashing into each other and the ground, but hey. To each their own, eh?

So, anyway, what were we talking about again? Oh, yeah, the Coalition Lacrosse League. Truth be told, there's nothing to it except rumors and hearsay, but say that Coalition goes ahead with it. How are we going to do it? Well, depending on interest in lacrosse across the Coalition's members, we may be looking at a possible two or three teams per nation. That gives us a total of either eight or twelve teams in this proposed Coalition Lacrosse League. If the Coalition is really interested in this Coalition Lacrosse League thing then they'll probably do three teams per nation just like the Coalition Rugby League because that's how they're promoting rugby league throughout the whole Coalition. Not sure if it's working but the CRL is still around so... probably? *shrugs*

I mean, face value, the CLL looks like a good thing, but then you look at the whole fiasco with the FRU and the RUCT and you have to wonder: if the Coalition is doing this to get more teams into the IDLO, what can this mean for the LLA? Is the LLA going to get cut from the IDLO or will they retain their status because, strictly speaking, they were there first? All I can say about this is that if the Coalition wants the CLL just for this very reason, don't do it. We already saw the chaos what happened with the RUCT. Is it really worth it to go through the same rigmarole just to end up right where we left off? Personally, I don't. But what do I know? I'm just an Irish girl with a computer and a liking for lacrosse. What do I know compared to the astute leaders of the Coalition?

Banijan lacrosse fans and local Banijan community react to the death of the Patriarch of Herzegovina

Image
A singer of the Banijan national anthem during a memorial service for the Patriarch of Herzegovina in Mansfield, Baker Park

LIMA, COMMONWEALTH OF BAKER PARK- As many are well aware of by now, the head of the Puritan Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, titled the Patriarch of Herzegovina(among his other titles), and the worldwide head of Banija’s national religion, Mabuza II, died of a heart attack about a week ago, just before the start of the World Lacrosse Championships. Banija’s national religion, of course, is just over 400 years old, and the people of Banija have had a long history with this faith, with the faith now being an integral part of the culture of not only Banijans within Banija, but Banijans living abroad. Faithful communities of Banijans lives in places like Mansfield, Baker Park, like West Bay, Damukuni, and New Istria, Darmen, just to name a few. Of course, with many services taking place in strictly Kasanke, they have largely failed to have large numbers of converts- but the way the faith has travelled with Banijans is impressive in and of itself.

And so for the Patriach of Herzegovina, Mabuza II, to die just before the start of the World Lacrosse Championships, that was always going to hang a cloud over the heads of those here. Now, of course, the death of the Patriarch is nothing like how the assassination of, say, Kabaka Albert III hung like a cloud over the successful World Cup 82 Qualification campaign. It is simply the Patriarch- and yet, it is a big deal. You saw this on the 2nd matchday of the group stages of lacrosse’s most prestigious tournament, when many of the travelling fans brought crosses, in memorium of the late Patriarch.

And, of course, it is always going to be a topic of conversation, here and now, among the fans. The Banijans will try and make this the second straight tournament they make the knockout stages at the WLCs, and the 9th time doing so in their 10th effort in this tournament(their only time failing to do so, on home soil in WLC 29). The topic of conversation, of course, the legacy of Mabuza II. That will be debated for a long time past this tournament, though, so the faithful won’t just be talking about that.

Another major thing that will be talked about, of course, is succession. Who will succeed the Patriarch of Herzegovina? For those who do not know, how succession works, it is a deliberative process. After the official funeral of the Patriarch of Herzegovina, the 14 members of the College of Bishops will meet, under seal, in the basement of the Temple of Herzegovina. They, of course, shall be housed and fed there, but otherwise cut off from the outside world until at least 2/3s of their number(so 10) agree on a new Patriarch. The college, of course, consists of the country’s 8 Archbishops, the church’s three members of the Guardian Council, and the Primate of the Royal Kingdom of Quebec. This will be the first election of an expanded council, where the Archbishop of New Istria, Darmen, and the Archbishop of West Bay, Damukuni, will attend as voting members.

Now, of course, that is not our focus, so we don’t want to get too bogged down in the details- you’ll have to look at another magazine for that. But we imagine that is something many Banijan fans will follow, that many players will certainly be tempted to follow themselves. But they’ve gotta focus on their big match coming up, against Qasden. Both teams are 2-0 so far, but Qasden has looked immeasurably more impressive. Can the Banijans pull off a group stage upset against Qasden on Matchday 3? All the focus will have to be on ignoring those headlines back home, and focusing on the task at hand against the quality opponent. It’ll certainly be an exciting one between these pair of GSW rivals in Lima, political and religious intrigue at home notwithstanding, and we'll see if the fireworks here can grab the attention of the Banijan fans within the country.

Big Time Win,
by Kenzie Jeffries, Concord Heights Times Intern

We had an off day after the game with Abanhfleft, and it was a very good thing.
These people in Hannover, Baker Park sure know and respect the game of lacrosse. I’ll get to covering the game in more detail in just a moment, but first I want to get in to a discussion that I had with a couple fans at a bar after the game. The topic of discussion, other then our own game was the 18-12 win for West Phoenicia over Sarzonia, and the 12-goal effort by Daredevil forward Raj Kik. Is that an unheard of effort for one game that was accomplished, or when a team scores 18 goals, it is not really all that uncommon? I was looking through some records of individual games at the collegiate level (OOC: Cassadagan records for RP purposes, but NCAA records in rl) to see the records for most goals in a game. At the highest level, the record is 11, shared by a few. Drop down levels, you’ll see a 12 and a 13 show up. Switching gender, and the highest level has the record at 12. Moving down levels, there are a pair of 15's. So, in Cassadagan collegiate sports, it’s a pretty special achievement and borderline unheard of. However, when you consider the level of play in this tournament the effort of Raj Kik means either one of two things: 1) It was a very special, amazing effort that will be hard to duplicate again, or 2) The rest of the team sucks, so Kik is the only one who gets chances. It was likely the first option, but if it was the second option West Phoenicia is in a lot of trouble as the tournament goes on when the book gets out on him. While most fans that I talked to were impressed by his ending statline, everyone was really in agreement that the team will need to find more balance in order to have extended success.

Our game against Abanhfleft was a great opportunity to see just how good our team may be. In the early moments of the game, we saw the team evenly split the first six goals of the match. Claude Dematteo scored two goals during this period of time, taking advantage of some sloppy midfield play by the Fillies, mainly Lauren Schmitt and Samantha Poole, as those players seemed a little more interested in offensive opportunities, and were uninspired on defense. However, captain and fellow midfielder Katie Stewart seemed to have a heart to heart with them after the third Abanhfleft goal, and they settled in much better. Cassadaigua would go into halftime with a 5-4 advantage, with Cassie Wheeler scoring a big goal with just four seconds left prior to the whistle.

That late goal energized the Fillies at the break, and they were the much better team early in the second, scoring the next three goals to open up an 8-4 advantage. The teams split the final four goals as the game ends with Cassadaigua winning, 10-6. Four players had two goals for the pink and black: Jessica Crockett, Cassie Wheeler, Alyssa Mosley, and Lauren Schmitt. Katie Stewart and Kayla Newton also had a goal. Impressively, Stewart won 66% of the faceoffs she took, a critical reason the team won this game. Up next is the team perceived as the weak link of the group, the East Tennessee Smoky Mountains. They have dropped their first two games and have been outscored 28-9. Captain Stewart cautions the team and fans from thinking this game is a given, “When you have a team that has been beat up like they have in two games, they become more hungry to try and salvage something. They know they can really turn their fate around if they knocked off us while we lead this group. We won’t be taking them lightly.”

I’ll see you in Marshallton!

WLC Day 2: musings by Moe

Moe Carlton
The Daily Mail Sport Columnist

I dropped in at a lunch place in Georgetown on my way to Oceana for the third match day of the tourney and folks there are buzzing about the games so far. Of course, the match in Northfield between St Saratoga & BP didn't end they way the home crowd might've liked, but it was a top class effort from both teams. The Saratogans who made the trek set up a pass the hat collection for cancer research in their home country, and the UAC, upon hearing about the fund raising, offered up a substantial donation to the Saints following the game.

It will be the Lady Laxxer's turn to face the surprise package thus far in the WLC, Bolgano; they have taken both of their matches and certainly will have a lot of confidence coming in. Will they be able to keep their composure at Selvey amid what is expected to be a raucous crowd? The Commons is one of the sport's holy grounds, with the UCO having the history it does.

We should also mention about the circumstances of the cloud of mourning the Banijan team are playing under following the death of the Leader of their church, Patriarch Mabuza II. They will be squaring off against their neighbors (and ours as well, I suppose I should mention) Qasden at Lions Stadium. Their fans have turned out in huge numbers here in the Commonwealth, padded by the ex-pat community that exists around the greater Mansfield area.

Of course, the tourney will double back onto the second round of matches in the groups after this set of games, making these contests vital for any squad looking to advance through.

Tragedy Strikes after 3rd win

The West Phoenician Daredevils have scored their third win in a row at the World Lacrosse Championship when they took on Shatla in a neck by neck game that was West Phoenicia edge out the competition by 1 goal.
As the final whistle blew West Phoenicia was ahead 9-8 in what has been the closest battle so far.
Fans erupted in loud cheers from across the stadium as West Phoenicians celebrated the win,

Team Manager Sunny Singh said the good results showed that the Daredevils were still feeding off the positive energy from the previous Olympic Games.
After mingling post game with fans and the media the Daredevils headed off to the change rooms to shower and go home.

Raj Kik, who media outlets were hailing as the hero of the team was the last to leave. Team mates stated he always took the longest in the shower and tonight was extra long as he had a date with Chiffon Davies, a West Phoenician model most famous for appearing in a popular jeans advertisement on television and her contract with Lust; a top West Phoenician cosmetic company that had hired her to show case tbeir seven deadly sins Lipstick line.

Fans lingering post game for an autograph with the lacrosse star were left shocked when Raj Kik had barely taken 10 steps out of the stadium and into the car park when a black car with no license plates headed right for him. Fans were quick to scream for him to jump out of the way, a motion that was a fraction too slow as the car side swipped him sending him into a twirl that had him smash against a car before falling to the concrete using bus right arm to protect himself in the fall.

Frantic fans called for the ambulance while the car in question sped off. It was it long before the media were also in the scene trailing the ambulance to the nearest hospital.

Team Manager Sunny Singh reported from the hospital an hour late, that Raj Kik was alive but suffering from concussion, brushed ribs and a broken arm. The upset manager has confirmed Raj Kik will be out for the rest of the championship and will be replaced by reserve forward member Vic Murphy. Fans were outraged upon hearing the news at the loss of such a valuable player.

Police are asking anyone to come forward if they witnessed the incident or have any information that could lead them to the driver of the black unmarked car. Upset team mates said Raj Kik will be a massive loss to their pursuit in winning the championship, but said they will keep fighting strong and try not to let the incident affect their game play.

"There is no I in team. Its a group effort, we will keep up the good fight," Goal keeper Skipper Brisbane announced to fans on his blog. "We will miss Raj for the rest of the season, but the show must go on."

The Lacrosse Lamentations
with Aisling Keane

Three days come and gone in the 31st World Lacrosse Championships and already, my predictions appear to have been fulfilled. Cassadaigua and Abanhfleft are duking it out for the top spot while Northwest Kalactin and the East Tennessee Smoky Mountains fight to see who gets to be not-bottom place. It's a very fun experience for the whole family, if by fun you mean "swearing up a storm whether or not the team you support is winning, and you feel heart palpitations for three hours after the game". But don't take my word for it; that's just me. I don't know about you.

What about them games though? How did we do? Well, for starters, the first game against ETSM was a blast. And I do mean literally a blast. Turns out that putting Pearline Cordes and Armando Lachance in the same team is actually a good idea since they're both very great goalscorers. And instead of pitting them against each other, turns out the secret to getting more out of them is actually making them strike partners, as the football-inclined would say. Except Cousin Graham isn't really inclined into all the football at the moment what with us getting knocked out in the DBC RO16 like clockwork. But what do I care about that? If you really want to read more about that go check out Cousin Graham's "manifesto". But seriously now, with five goals each between themselves Cordes and Lachance are very much the future of Fleftic lacrosse. Kind of like a not-shitty version of Elene Liner and Kelly McGinnis.

On to Cassadaigua and it was more of a slog if anything. Apparently the Cassers thought we had them in the first half, but in reality it was they who had us in the first half, not gonna lie. Claude Dematteo scored two goals. Now there's a name you don't see everyday. Claude is pretty much the one and only bright spot for the Marble Arch Bandidos in their past two seasons in the LLA, where they have not really adapted as well as they would have probably liked. They probably envisioned themselves doing a Suwkpel when they made the move from AML to LLA but instead they did a Marble Arch and finished rock bottom of their division twice in a row. I mean, the Bandidos aren't absolute trash, but... oh, who am I kidding? The Bandidos are trash, and the only reason why they have a semblance of being competitive in the LLA is because of Claude Dematteo right here. For this game against Cass, he shares the honor of being top scorer with... surprise, surprise, none other than both Armando Lachance and Pearline Cordes.

To the third game we go, and it was against a slightly miserable Northwest Kalactin side. I know I've claimed before that NWK could very well throw a banana peel in front of us if we weren't careful, but based on the side that I saw play against us today, I don't think these Kalactinians would've been able to throw a banana peel if they wanted. Heck, they might even end up slipping on their own peel if they did such a thing. Wait a minute, what was I trying to say here? Something about lacrosse and bananas? Maybe, maybe... But seriously now. Everyone, let us all give a round of applause for Tomiko Legaspi of the Piuui Rockets and now the Fleftic national lacrosse team. If it wasn't for Tomiko and her eight goals, we probably wouldn't have been able to win this game. For some strange reason, Cordes and Lachance chose this day of all days to have an off day, but thank God Tomiko was there to pick up their slack. Where would we be without this new team that we have? I don't know.

So what have we got to look forward to next? More of the same, really. We'll play the same teams except this time the nominal home and away teams are reversed. Predictions? I think we'll take ETSM no problem. Do the double on those guys. Cassadaigua? That's a tough one. We might win it; we might not. Of course, I'll always hope that we win, but if we lose against Cass a second time then I wouldn't really be that surprised. Now that final game against NWK though, now that's where things could get really tricky. You never really know what Kalactinian side we're going to get by the time this final game comes along. They could have rediscovered their mojo and gone on a little bit of a winning streak or they could already be condemned to the bottom along with ETSM. No matter what though, they're still capable of throwing that banana peel I keep talking about so much. But I also believe that we'll be able to get past them, but only by so much. Anything beyond that though? You might need to consult a psychic octopus for that.

Postby Sarzonia » Tue Jul 02, 2019 8:55 am

The morning of the match was a rough one for Carter Whitlock. He awoke with less than three hours of restless sleep at 4 a.m., well before the 5:30 a.m. wakeup call the team instituted the night before. He fumbled for his mobile phone, half expecting to get a text asking him to essentially turn in his playbook. However, the last text he received was from the lacrosse association governing body reminding him of a staff President's Day party on 10th July.

One he knew he'd likely miss because of the current World Lacrosse Championships.

Anyway, after the team breakfast, he dozed off on the bus ride to Franz Braddock Stadium in Woodstock. Gameday traffic was unusually slow, he would have thought if he hadn't slept through the bus ride. Of course, it was hours before the team needed to be there, and Woodstock public and charter schools just let out. Even charter schools were not in session as July was the traditional month that Sarzonian school systems didn't offer classes.

When the bus pulled into the parking lot, Bill Harbour had to wake up the coach and then the team made their way into the stadium. Finally, the shot of adrenaline that courses through a competitor's body prior to a match took care of the sleepies for Whitlock and he and the team sprinted out onto the pitch.

Sarzonia would soon make quick work of their opponents, grinding out an impressive 9-4 victory over Huri de Wintre that brought the 1-2 Stars right back into the thick of things in the Group D tables. West Phoenicia maintained a two-match lead in the table with a closer than expected 9-8 victory over Shatla. After he fielded a few questions about the team's greater emphasis on defence and on its ability to win faceoffs, Whitlock felt his phone vibrate. His eyebrows scrunched and he looked down.

He gasped.

"Uh, I just found out a car ran into Raj Kik," he said. "The update from the hospital is he suffered a concussion, bruised ribs, and a broken arm." Whitlock closed his eyes for a moment, exhaled slowly, then said, "We send our wishes for a speedy recovery," he said after a few moments.

He also knew the last message he'd send his team after the interviews and all. Look both ways before crossing the street. Be extra careful.

Halfway there,
by Kenzie Jeffries, Concord Heights Times Intern

Good evening, lacrosse fans! Before I get started on this article, I first have to express my sympathies for Raj Kik, the West Phoenician forward who just the other day scored twelve goals against Sarzonia. Any enjoyment he had from that result would become short-lived as he was hit by a car as he was signing autographs. It would seem like a freak accident, but I have heard some reports that it may have been anything but. The driver of the vehicle sped off, raising a lot of questions as to what actually happened and whether or not Kik will get any justice. He sustained multiple injuries, which include a broken arm while suffering a concussion. This is a shame, and I am sure it is just a developing story.

It was an easy journey to find ourselves to Marshallton, an area that has a metropolitan population of over 300,000. It is said to be a good destination for people to travel too in the winter time, likely after their holiday parties have completed. If you are reading this, you will have to keep that in mind if you’re looking to get away. The stadium is a little older, but has been maintained very well. It would be here that Cassadaigua would face a team from East Tennessee Smoky Mountains, who had dropped their first two games, and really wanted to get some positive momentum. They came into the tournament unranked, and are using the secret roster strategy while their media has not provided any coverage of their efforts. That is generally not a recipe for success in a tournament such as this, but the Dagan players were not about to take their opposition lightly. Prior to the match, team coach Michelle Carter told me that, “After a big win like we had against Abanhfleft, this type of game can often be referenced as a letdown game. I began to give the team the lecture about that in the locker room, but it was pretty clear right away that none of them were about to have a let down, and quite frankly, they wanted to go for the kill. That’s what is really important in a competition like this, to have that killer instinct.” Forward Jessica Crockett, the leading scorer of the team had additional insight, “This is the largest competition that Cassadaigua has competed in that we have never won. If there was a sixth jewel to get after our first five, this is what we covet.”

Right from the opening faceoff, it was very clear that Cassadaigua could have their way against the Mountaineers (what I am going to call them), and scored three goals in the first five minutes. Two were by Crockett, and Samantha Poole had another. The team kept pouring it on, and would score the first seven goals of the game before the opponents were finally able to get one. Stewart was dominant in the circle, too, winning nine of her first ten faceoffs taken. The domination continued throughout the first half, and at the intermission, Cassadaigua led the match by the score of 11-2. Crockett had five goals by that point. In the second half, things started much the way the first half ended, with the Fillies opening up a 13-3 advantage, and at that point coach Carter seemed to call off the dogs, and put in all of the reserves except for in goal. Even these second string players controlled the play, and the team cruised to an easy 16-4 win. Obviously, coach Carter was pleased, “Very proud of how went for it and kept pouring it on like that. You have to handle a struggling team like that or else they start to get confident. It was fun to watch, and in a game where goal differential can be an important tiebreaker, you want to keep it rolling. However, you also want to let everyone have a chance to see some action. This was a great opportunity to do that.”

At halfway, Cassadaigua is one of four 3-0 teams, and they are even with Vangaziland right now for the number one overall seed. We have scored more goals, so we would be the top seed in the playoffs if it were to end now, but it most certainly is not. There is still one more big game against Abanhfleft to play, and that will be a hard group to defeat twice.

I’m off to have a cool time in Coolville, and hopefully we can knockoff Northwest Kalactin before that critical showdown with Abanhfleft. If you are not able to make it there, root us on hard from home!

The government has threaten commercial sanctions on a number of products from Baker Park and Saint Saratoga over the blatant misspelling of the name of the nation by the media of the later and inominable acts on the proper spelling of the name of our nation generalized by the former.
The government has threatened to impose a 20% tax on media products from both nations.Other sector affected is the agropecuária.

Saints survive Natanians and Nost in 13-12 win!

Cost: K$ 1.50

Selvey Commons, Oceana -- Tensions between St Saratoga, Natanians and Nost flaired today both in Selvey Commons and Rogerbei as a simple spelling error brought a nation, and team, to its knees. Earlier in the day, the Natanians and Nost government issues a threat of commercial sanctions to the WLC 31st host Baker Park and “Saint” Saratoga over a misspelling of the nation’s name. This tension transferred into multiple skirmishes between players throughout the match.

“This by far was the most unusual game I’ve ever been involved in.” Saints national team General Manager Joseph Moore on the Natanians and Nost’s government threat. “I spoke with Chancellor Jonathan Steward about the threat from our opponets government, he said it was pre-game bolstering, trying to create a distraction to have a chance at winning. My guess is that they’re a little frustrated with being 0-3 in this tournament and still upset about being eliminated in the Round of 16 in the WLC 28 by some of these boys.”

The match day was a very close affair with the most separation in the score being halfway through the third when the Saints were up by two goals before the Natanians & Nost shot one over the right shoulder of Goaltender Alexander Atkins. Saints goal scorers included Mickey Wright scoring his 10th goal of the tournament, Zak Boyle, Archie Riley and Bailey Curtis getting his first ever goal.

The first half had the Saints defensive struggles continue, traditionally they have struggled on the defensive side of play as they continue to put their trust into a very young defensive and goaltending core. The Saints defense average age is at 24 and the goal tending at 22, compared to the average 30-year-old forward core. Sources within the organization has stated that the Saints are becoming concerned about the development of starting goalie Alexander Atkins and have considered exploring other options at the netminding position.

The second half of the matchday is where the frustrations started to set in, with the Saints recording their WLC-record in penalties as the Saints got more and more aggressive in trying to defend the net. The match would end with the second consecutive game of having to desperately fight off an opponent’s attack in the last few minutes. Atkins would continue to show fairly good composure in clutch scenarios.

The Saints and Nosts got into some scuffles throughout the match day including two major skirmishes between the teams resulting in a few players on both teams being benched for the rest of the game. Saints Defender Cole Scott and Midfielder Ethan Edwards was suspended by the Saints administration for the next matchday for being involved in the two major scuffles. “We appreciate the passion of our players, but some emotions need to be left in the locker room” Will Toivonen said in regard to the suspending of the Saints players. Combined, the two players have a combined 6 pts so far in the tournament.

“They should concentrate on winning instead of reading what's being written about them.” Laughed Mickey Wright when asked by a local Baker Park journalist about the bolstering of the Natanians and Nost threat.

The Saints remain in second place as Group A shifts into a three-way tie for first place with Baker Park winning the tiebreaker followed by the Saints then Bolgano, winless Natanians and Nost remain in forth facing the threat of elimination in their next match day. Bolgano took their first loss in Group A after being defeated by Baker Park 5 – 17. Of all the top 10 ranked teams in the tournament, only West Phoenicia and Vangaziland remain undefeated in WLC 31st. The final scores and standing are listed below.

Bolgano 5–17 Baker Park
St Saratoga 13–12 Natanians & Nosts

Group A Pld W L GF GA GD Pts
1 Baker Park 3 2 1 46 26 +20 4
2 St Saratoga 3 2 1 38 36 +2 4
3 Bolgano 3 2 1 35 35 0 4
4 Natanians & Nosts 3 0 3 26 48 −22 0

With the group stage officially half way over, the Saints are looking to meet their goal of reaching the semi-finals of the 31st World Lacrosse Classic. To accomplish this, the Saints are looking to the next match day as the key to qualifying for the knockout stages with their last match against Bolgano. Bolgano beat the Saints on the opening day of the WLC with a score of 13-16 with a controversial call so the Saints are eager for a rematch which also sets the stage for the Saints to be in control of their own destiny along with Baker Park.

Remaining Group Stage Schedule:
MD4: Saints Vs Bolgano at Alumni Stadium, University Park
MD5: Baker Park Vs Saints at Mann/Stevens/Ewing Stadium, Oceana
MD6: Saints Vs Natanians & Nost at Lions Stadium, Lima BP

Release of Statement by the Minister State for External Affairs:

We have received word from the government of Natanians & Nosts about their unhappiness with circumstances surrounding the correct spelling of the nation's name in the media and in the official communications involving the World Lacrosse Championships.

On behalf of the Commonwealth, we greatly regret the errors regarding the spelling issue, and have sent word to the representatives that the corrections will be made immediately, and we have also expressed our sincere apology.

We certainly do not want any issue to hamper any commercial or sporting ties between ourselves and the Natanian government. I'm assured by the Universities Athletic Coalition, as the governing body for the sport here, and the organizers of the event that they take full responsibility for the error and can plead only that an honest mistake was made.

The West Phoenician Daredevils and their fans were left shocked after the loss on match day 4 against Huri de Wintre.

The Daredevils had struggled against the team they had easily beat on match day one losing by a small margin of 9-12. While disappointed at the loss, the behaviour and the attitude of the fans were applauded. There has been among bad history of West Phoenician fans of baseball, basketball and other sports when good luck does not go their way.
Assistant Coach Helena Bryce applauded the good behaviour, "Lacrosse is a noble sport, our fans are some of the best fans in the world. Win or lose they will be supportive and not crass, we dont need fans like that."

While the Huri de Wintre has been strangely silent these championships, Team Manager Sunny Singh was quick to call upon the media that this loss had nothing to do with the team being weaker due to Raj Kik absence but instead it was just Huri de Wintre stepping up and outplaying them on the day.

Some fans were not convinced and took to social media to vent their frustration that the first game they lost was after their star player Raj Kik suffered multiple injuries in a hit and run. Some fans pointed fingers at rival nations who plotted the hit and run to sabotage West Phoenicia's attempt to win their first title in Lacrosse.

While others voiced that Raj Kik had annoyed many of his team mates when he was bolstered up as the star of the team and it was possible a fellow team mate ran him down in a fit of jealously.

Sunny Singh dismissed the social media posts as trollish and fabrications. Mr Singh denied that The Daredevils relied heavily on one player and it was a group effort. He said there was no doubt that the Daredevils would progress and not every team can win every match.
He rallied fans to come out in force as they next play Sarzonia again.

BECAUSE WHAT ELSE COULD HAVE HAPPENED?

You know what, guys? I've had it. I've had enough. I have had it with these motherfucking Fleftic youth teams losing in the motherfucking Round of 16 of the motherfucking Di Bradini Cup. I've just had it. Sorry for turning all family-unfriendly back there but I just had to let it all out. I have seriously had enough of this team. What is even the point of supporting them if they'll just keep doing the same thing again and again and not even bother to change?

In case you haven't heard, Abanhfleft have been eliminated in the Round of 16 of the Di Bradini Cup once again. And once again we have lost to a team that does not deserve to get that far into the competition in the form of Nilrah... Nimrod... Nilrahranfan! I don't know much about these guys, only that they're fascist and that the communists over in Kavagrad gloated when they beat these guys over in the Independents Cup. Fuck, they didn't even get any shots on target in this game! Both of their goals were own goals scored by us! If only our players knew which goal to score in, we would have won this game handily! Handily, I tell you! But yet here we are, wondering what could have been while those bastards waltz deeper into a tournament they have no business being in.

But then this has got me thinking: at what point do we call all the teams that have beat us "undeserving" of their victory and turn to look at ourselves and wonder whether we are actually the ones who are "undeserving". A lot of us Fleftic fans go on and on about how this team and that club didn't deserve to advance in our place, but we never stop to wonder whether we would have deserved to advance if we had indeed won. Let's take a look at where we would have been if we had indeed hung on to win against Nilrahranfan. We would have been up against Vilita and Turori, and we all know that there's no surviving Vilita and Turori. So I guess the point that I'm trying to make here is that it's better to lose to a team that you know is the absolute best instead of a bunch of coal-dust covered far-righties.

But let's keep on going down this little alternate history avenue a little bit and say that, against all the odds, we managed to beat Vilita and Turori. What's next for us? Savojarna, apparently. I can already smell the rivalry brewing wherever that matchup had come to pass. And if we do somehow advance past Savojarna, who do we face in the final? Either Cosumar or Kita-Hinode. Not the easiest of finals to play in by any margin. So again I reiterate my point from the previous paragraph: all this would've probably gone down better if only we had lost against a team like Vilita and Turori and not a team like Nilrahranfan. Absolutely disgusting; going down thanks to two own goals. Two own goals! Where have you seen that kind of bullshit before?

Let's wind the clock back a little bit further, say DBC 44. Let's say that we somehow prevented Ko-oren from making that comeback, and we advanced to the quarterfinals in their place. Who would we face? Why, none other than Cosumar. Yikes. Once again, a scenario similar to the one I talked about earlier surfaces here: better to be knocked out by a clearly better team than one that only managed to turn things around at the literal last minute. But hang on a minute! Say we once again achieve the impossible and tally an unlikely win over Cosumar. What next of us? Why, it's none other than our eternal enemies

Image

This is the part where we're all supposed to go, "We've gone far in this competition, but since we're Abanhfleft, we're due a meeting with the Wanderers. Fuck us, right?" It's Pasarga again! 100 times out of 100 we're deffo gonna lose this. But wait! There's more! If, by some infinitesimal astronomical chance we pull off the "Miracle of DBC 43" once again and we beat Pasarga somehow, who's left to face us in the final? Mytanija. Of course it's Mytanija. Who else would it be? Who's game to relive the heartbreak of DBC 43? Me, sir; me, sir! Pick me; oh, pick me! Actually, don't fucking pick me. I can't deal with all this shit anymore.

In the end, I guess all of this comes down to just us fans being so fucking sick of always getting knocked out in the Round of 16 every. Single. Fucking. Time. It's practically like clockwork by now. In fact, looks like even the SFA's had enough of this shit, if you believe the rumors that they're going to shelve the men's under-21 team and probably even the women's team. To be honest, I don't know if that's the right move to make because how else are we going to develop our players if we don't expose them to other ways of playing football, but on the other hand, if all we're exposing them to is the pain and horror of losing every single fucking time, then perhaps this move is actually for the best. I don't know. I'm just a gay man with opinions.

At least both Pasarga and Starblaydia got knocked out in the Round of 16 as well. Up yours, motherfuckers. I still haven't forgiven you two for all the pain you've caused me. Pasarga, you know what you've done. Starblaydia, screw you for turning Karamoko Bakayoko into a shadow of this former self. And I don't care that I sound like a petty and vindictive bastard right now. Right now, I don't like either Pasarga or Starblaydia. I laugh when they lose, and I laugh loud and hard. And it's on that note that I leave you all with a little heartfelt XOXO from Graham....

Saints control Group A with win over Bolgano!

Cost: K$ 1.50

WLC 31 -- The Saints are now completely in control of their own destiny with their win over Bolgano. The game came as a revenge game after the upset they faced in match day one against the same team which shocked many throughout the tournament. The Saints take matchday four 17 to 9 improve the Saints record 3-1 in Group A.
The Saints dominated the matchday against Bolgano after changing their style of play. The Saints put more emphasis on defense with having the midfielder play further back to offer more support for the defense and goaltender. The Saints starting forwards were switched up with Mickey Wrights transitioning from a playmaker role to more of a sniping goal scorer role which he had in college. This transition seemed to have paid off with Wright scoring 5 goals in the one matchday bringing him to 15 goals in the tournament.

The first half of match day four had the Saints playing a very conservative game. The forwards did most of the offensive work as the midfielders and defenders hung back drawing the ambitious and goal-hungry Bolgano offense deep into the Saratogan side of the field. The Saints would then press the Bolgano forwards hard to keep moving around the goal to open up the chance at a shot on goal. The Bolgano would sick in six goals in the first with the Saints putting up ten goals.

The second half saw goaltender Alexander Atkins become comfortable with the retooled Saints team as he reduced his goals against drop by four goals, averagely, which was key to taking pressure of the offense in this pivotal matchup between the two teams. The defense was slow to get off to the start in the second with allowing multiple back to back goals but with the second half beginning the Saints finally fully clicked as a team. The Saints conservative play in the first half did a number of the endurance of the newcoming WLC team as they were visibility exhausted. The Saints were able to capitalize on the worn out Bolgano national team to make up the score differential between Baker Park and the Saints to claim the first place spot in Group A.

In Group A, the Saints moved into first place with a tie still remaining against Baker Park. Baker Park eliminated Natanians and Nost from the knock off rounds with a 14-11 win, Baker Park falls to second place with the Saints winning the tiebreaker to claim first. Bolgano falls to third place with their lost to the Saints, with a must-win game against Natanians and Nost on the line to keep a chance at qualifying over host Baker Park.

Baker Park 14–11 Natanians & Nosts
St Saratoga 17–9 Bolgano

Group A Pld W L GF GA GD Pts
1 St Saratoga 4 3 1 55 45 +10 6
2 Baker Park 4 3 1 60 37 +23 6
3 Bolgano 4 2 2 44 52 −8 4
4 Natanians & Nosts 4 0 4 37 62 −25 0

Baker Park and the Saints play next matchday is a pivotal match for Group A. If the Saints win, they will have insurance over every other team in the group for the top seed in the knockout stages. If Baker Park wins, then it will come down to matchday six with the potential for a three-team fight for two qualifying spots.

One thing was on the mind of Sarzonia's national lacrosse team when they lined up to face Shatla in the away leg of their round robin in Group D.

Vindication. For coach Carter Whitlock, who faced questions about his coaching prowess after a hall of fame career as a midfielder for five gold medal-winning Sarzonia teams. For a national team that felt the pressure from a fanbase that was used to winning titles. For loyal fans who were hearing taunts from fans of other teams.

The Stars got their vindication in the form of a 9-6 victory that saw their defense shine once again. The Stars, who evened their record to 2-2, held Shatla off the score sheet for a minute span between the second and third quarters, scoring three goals in the process.

The victory sets up a showdown with group leaders West Phoenicia in front of a packed house at Franz Braddock Stadium in Woodstock. The Daredevils lost their match to Huri de Wintre, which means the Stars are playing for the group title in front of their adoring fans.

"We know the stakes," Whitlock said. If they win, they clinch the group. If we win, we can create a mess."

Stars officials announced that they would honor Daredevils attack Raj Kik before the match.

"We wish him well and hope he has a speedy recovery," defensive midfielder Khalid al Babtain said. "We wish he could play against us at Braddock. We thrive on playing the best of the best."

Sarzonian investigators are combing through video footage of the attack on Kik and are scanning for information about the vehicle that was used to run Kik over. They have ruled out Sarzonia as the source of the vehicle. The investigation into the enhanced video of the inside of the vehicle is ongoing.

Two hard defeats that change the destiny of the National Team

The National Team lost the two games against Baker Park and St. Saratoga respectively, in the match against Baker Park decided to play defensively as this team is strong in attack and defense, the defense of the archery was only 7 minutes when the bow fell, after that the Bolgano Team no longer managed to recover on time and lose strongly.

In front of St. Saratoga he took an important game as the winner had a foot in the next phase, but sadly the defeat came, they reinforced the defense different from the previous game. They tried to score but it was difficult for them to be another one of the Saints.

The Team will face on the following day the already eliminated Natians & Nots to try to classify through the best third parties.
