GCF World Twenty20 Championships XII OOC thread

Postby NS Global Cricket Federation » Sun May 05, 2019 10:37 am

Welcome to signups for the twelfth NS Global Cricket Federation World T20 Championship, the multiverse's premiere international competition for the short-format game.

Signups and host bids should be posted in this thread, simply by saying "We sign up" or similar. Please note: puppets will only be entered at the discretion of the eventual host. There is a maximum of one puppet per user, and you must have previously entered a GCF event (either a World T20 or a Test season) to enter a puppet. You may only bid to host if you have previously entered the World T20 Championship.

The deadline for host bids is Sunday, 19 May, at 12:00 UTC, after which there will be a week-long host vote. Only GCF members currently ranked in the Test ranks (full/associate members) who are signed up, or users who have signed up to both the 10th and 11th World T20s, at the deadline for host bids may vote in the election.

The poster behind this is almost certainly Liventia or Apox, the current de facto GCF co-presidents.

Liventia host bid for the 12th World Twenty20 Championship

The Liventian Cricket Board of Authority would be delighted to welcome the world back to Liventia for the World Twenty20 Championship again. As such, after some deliberation, it is bidding to host the 12th World Twenty20.

The format
This bid would work with the following number of teams: Any even number from 16–24; 28; 30; 32; 36, 40.

16 teams: two groups of eight, playing each other twice in the first round for a total of 14 games. Top four per group qualify for the quarter-finals. Straight knockout.

18, 24, or 30 teams: three, four, or five groups of six, playing each other twice in the first round for a total of 10 games. Top three per group (top three plus best fourth-placed team if 18 or 30 teams) qualify for the second round. Straight knockout if there are 16 teams left (30 teams entered); second round of two groups of 5 or 6 is there are 10 or 12 teams left. Teams will play each other once in the second group stage, for a total of four or five games, with the top two per group qualifying for the semifinals.

20 or 22 teams: two groups of 10 or 11, playing each other once in the first round for a total of nine or 10 games. Top two per group qualify for the quarter-finals; next four per group qualify for the elimination round play-off. Straight knockout from there.

28 teams: four groups of seven, playing each other twice in the first round for a total of 12 games. Group winners qualify for the quarter-finals; next two per group qualify for the elimination play-off. Straight knockout from there.

32 teams: four groups of eight, playing each other twice for a total of 14 games. Group winners qualify for the quarter-finals; next two per group qualify for the elimination play-off. Straight knockout from there.

36 or 40 teams: four groups of nine or ten, playing each other once for a total of eight or nine games. Top two per group qualify for the round of 16; next four per group qualify for the elimination play-off. Straight knockout from there.

A third place playoff will be contested under all formats.

These formats have been chosen to produce more round-robin games to reward RPers and prevent the situation of the past two tournaments where non-RPers have made it deep into the tournament.

In case of a tie in all games (group stage and knockouts), a super over will be played.
Two points for a win (including by super over), one point for a defeat by super over, and no points for any other loss.

If teams are tied on points, the tiebreakers will be as follows: Wins, head-to-head wins, head-to-head net run rate, overall net run rate, drawing of lots.

Scorination
Scorination will be done using modified xkoranate 0.3.3 sports files, updated to use more modern scoring and wicket rates. I also have a bespoke super over scorination file for xkoranate. These files have previously been made available to other users and can be made available upon request.

The length of the tournament should be not much longer than it has been previously despite the different formats proposed, with a minimum of 13 games (20 or 36 teams signed up) and maximum of 18 (24 or 32 teams signed up). However, during the round-robin phase(s), scorination will be every two days to aid RP recovery. I will move to one scorination per day once we reach the knockout stages. I expect to cut off around 23:00 Central European Summer Time on each scorination day.

RP bonus will be cumulative and will not degrade. There will be a significant RP bonus pegged to the value of rank points.

I do not believe style mods should be used any further in T20 cricket, where very few teams would ever play defensively. Therefore, they will not be in use.

Other notes
Under this bid, puppets can only be entered if the main nation has previously entered a World T20. Puppets will be the first to be removed if need be if we have a difficult number of entrants, with the last to sign up removed first.

OOC experience
I've hosted four World T20s, four GCF Test seasons, four football World Cups, five World Grand Prix Championship seasons, three Olympic Games, and numerous other tournaments. I shouldn't need to go on too much here.

Just to confirm I've updated my bid with a format for 16 teams in the very unlikely scenario we get just 2 more signups between now and the end.
