NSCAA Recap Episode 2

NSCAA RECAP EPISODE 2
Written By: Nick Fleming and Niccolo Dee

We're back! We had to take a bit of a break due to administrative reasons around the office but here we are again with some epic NSCAA action.

Once again we'll be compiling the rankings for the NSCAA's current Top 25 teams. Again, this list is semi-subjective, but a lot of it is based in the pure results and output of every team. And like last time, some teams are at a disadvantage due to an uneven number of games played, but we've strived to make the best power ranking list the NSCAA has to offer.

EPISODE 2 TOP 25
With the conference schedule just about halfway done, it seems that everyone has played everyone at least once, besides the Vanorian conferences, which will hopefully be up at the same level of games played soon. Because of this, only one undefeated team remains, that of Ducentu State University, the Drawkian school in the Eternal Conference. They're likely to drop a game sooner or later, and with the fact they've played half as many games as the other schools in the rankings, they're pretty far down a peg on the ranks. If they stay undefeated though, they could easily rocket to the top of the ranks when the games "catch up."

Something you may notice is that there's been a lot of shaking up in the rankings, and that they're not too similar to the rankings we posted last. This, again, is due to the interval of time we've put between these postings. Earlier, the teams were still fresh, still getting acclimated, and several teams from power nations had taken early upset losses, while teams from more upstart nations had a strong start which faded as soon as it started. Now instead of a hopeful field of 10 nations with schools in the top 25, many of the outliers have been culled and a solid group of 5 nations have their schools in the top. Guess who's on top?

Top 25 Rankings
1. Corinth City University (DRK) (14-1; +365) (United 15)
2. Sadeg State University (DRK) (14-1; +346) (Sky Blue)
3. Cemmendy Tech (DRK) (14-1; +303) (Newlands)
4. Pocono City University (NEW) (14-1; +272) (Flying Drawk)

Nation Rankings
1. Drawkland: 8
2. Newmanistan: 6
3. Lisander: 5
4. Baker Park: 3
5. Cassadaigua: 2
6. Banija: 1

At the top we happen to have a trio of Drawkian schools. All three of these teams have been in the NSCAA since Drawkland entered in NSCAA 7 and *ahem* two of them have had impressive showings in the Ultra 64 multiple times. Sadeg State was bumped down by one place, as they were the #1s in the first poll. They came out with a strong showing, averaging a 40-point margin of victory. They still are powerhouses, averaging around a 24 point margin of victory, and their only loss thus far has been to Concord Heights Beauty School, a terrible 2-point loss at home from a buzzer-beating 3. Corinth City University, on the other hand, managed to jump up from #10 to #1 by virtue of an even larger point differential. Both of these Drawkian schools have been absolutely manhandling their opposition. Perhaps Corinth would've been ranked higher earlier, but their bye was early in the season and the 3-0, compared to many 4-0 schools, was a bit too little to depend on. Corinth, too, were a lost buzzer beater away from still being undefeated, as their only loss so far has been to the Newmanistani Southport University on the road.

Cemmendy Tech, the meme of all Drawkian schools in the NSCAA, managed to claw from the depths of the unranked to the top 3. Suffering a horrible loss to Osheana State University on the first day of games (in true meme fashion), the Cyberpunks' campaign was not off to a good start. Since that fateful loss though, Cemmendy came back to prove their worth and clobber pretty much everyone in their way. As such, they're the third of three schools to break over 300 point differential halfway through the conference campaign. Rounding out the Top 5 are Pocono City University and the University of Tundra Falls, the only other 1-loss teams, and the top 2 Newmanistani schools. Tundra Falls has been producing since day 1, and really has only dropped in the rankings to make room for the more solid squads. Pocono City U, on the other hand, were one of the lower-ranked schools in the initial polls thanks to the early bye (like Corinth).

Pocono City Tech, who likely aren't happy being ranked 2 below their crosstown rivals, are still the best of the 2-loss teams. In fact, they themselves have nearly passed the +300 marker, but are a few points short. They're absolutely going to pass it in the coming games, but for now it limits them. Right behind them, and just as good as them, is Polithecnia Soria, the highest-ranked Lisander school to make the list. Similar record and similar differential, but they're limited by being only the second-best team in the Sky Blue Conference, behind Sadeg State. Cassadaigua's schools mainly dropped off the list since the last polling, 3 falling out of the Top 25, but New Lakeland University managed to claw their way up the rankings. New Lakeland may have suffered an early loss, but since then they've become the cream of the crop in the Royal Conference, and managed to be the only Dagan bid in the Top 10.

Rounding out said Top 10 is Old Mountain University, a Drawkian school which didn't make the initial polls due to both an early bye and early loss. Since then though, they've managed to show flashes of the near-championship squad that almost won NSCAA 8 many moons ago. You know they're looking for ways to beat Tundra Falls again and take the Five Star Conference for themselves though. Finally, the Commonwealth of Baker Park's best entry, University of Endover, is in at #10. Their early loss may have kept them at #14 in the original polls, but they recovered and have become the leaders of the Big Seven Eight, shaky as that lead may currently be.

Universitas Concordia Kasandora, the next Lisander school making it in, are only the second-placed school in the Flying Drawk Conference, but still have a very solid record and differential. They made a name for themselves after a slow start, but still have awhile to go before they make it further. Belle Haven State University, of Baker Park, also snuck into the polls after not being ranked originally. They're currently neck and neck with Tech in the Pink 15 conference, and whether they or Belle Haven manage to take it is anybody's guess, especially with the #16 ranked Cavsar University not far behind either of them. Banija's lone entry in the top 25, the University of Moravica, managed to hang on as most 1-ranked-team nations fell out with this poll. Moravica actually managed to increase their rank from 19 to 13, by only taking one additional loss from their record at the first poll and continuing to put a fine showing on the court.

Loudon Empire University dropped a bit. As one of the Top 10 teams initially, thanks to a perfect start, they took 2 big losses in the Big Seven Eight to drop down a bit. Still, they're equal with Endover on record in the conference, and could easily slide right back up in the rankings with a few key wins. Next in the rankings we see the second "crop" of Drawkian schools, the decent but not superpowered schools. Of note is the last undefeated school, Ducentu State, who are only ranked so low due to the fact that they're 7-0 ... and not 15-0. Talk to us when you've played a real slate, Eagles. Cavsar University, as aforementioned, is still in a tight battle in the Pink 15. Drawk Corps University is the highest-ranked 12-3 team. Despite having lost 3 games, the Corps U still has a point differential comparable to a middling 13-2 team. Their losses have been tight, and against solid competition.

Southport University, at 12-3 and a differential less than +200, aren't exactly the strongest candidate in the Top 20, but they are ranked so high due to the virtue of being the only team to have beaten the current #1 team in Corinth City. The tight last-second home win was barely enough to overcome the Chargers, but it's more than enough to overcome some of these other, more pedestrian 12-3 teams. For example, Keisler College of the Newlands conference have been playing good ball, but their play has been less than stellar against more solid opponents. They still managed to up a couple spots from the last poll though. Universidade Portia of the Big Seven Eight aren't the best team in the conference, but they've been playing great despite being in a tough conference, and have proven their worth in the top 25. Similarly, The University of Concord Heights is Cassadaigua's only other school making the ranks, barely staying afloat in the competitive Flying Drawk Conference.

Osheana State University is the last of Baker Park's schools to make the cut, their win against Cemmendy Tech on day one might not have been enough to get them ranked in the first poll, but the 11 wins afterwards certainly were. The next two making the list were Elmanden District College and Universidade São Miguel Arcanjo, the two one-loss teams atop the Woodlands Conference currently. While they, like Ducentu, are held back by their few games played, they still have a lot of potential to make deep runs in the coming season. Finally, rounding out the list is Universidade de Soria, the only 4-loss team to make the cut. This may be confusing, and some other 4-loss teams may be offended, but Soria has been clobbering their opponents in the Five Star conference, with a point differential resembling that of teams with two more wins.

This rounds out the list so far. Sure, you may be miffed at all 8 Drawkian schools making the cut, but we'll remind you that no Drawkian school has lost more than 3 games yet. Other schools, like from Newmanistan and Cassadaigua, have had a few of their entry schools lose 4 or more games, which simply isn't enough to make the cut. We hear that the Eternal and Woodlands conferences will be having some back-to-back and doubleheader games to catch their schedule up, so hopefully the next polling will have a fully accurate number of games and nobody will be higher or lower ranked than they deserved due to scheduling discrepancies.

Also, hopefully we can manage to get votes earlier and have a poll sooner than the last one. Obviously polling every dozen games is no way to get things done. Until then though, good luck to your schools, and may the best teams win! Especially if they're Drawkian.

Halfway through NSCAA season, Banijan teams vye for NSCAA tournament berths

Image
Loyola-Istria student section during a NSCAA 10 basketball game

ISTRIA, MORAVICA, BANIJA- Traditionally, Banijans have been a college football powerhouse on the international level. While the national team has not yet won the coveted trophy, the World Bowl, losing in four semifinals in that tournament. However, their NSCAA struggles have been well apparent. Even though they’ve hosted conference tournaments, and even early round NSCAA games, on home soil, Banijan schools have never really been able to make an impact in the NSCAA. A football crazed nation, of course, it has been trying to raise the level of its basketball skill over the past few years. The country is more than just a pair of football schools, of course- making an impact in basketball will really vault Banijan collegiate athletics into the strastosphere. And with the NSCAA regular season about halfway however, let’s take a look at how the Banijan schools have performed so far.

Northern Moravica University

Northern Moravica was the dominant program within college football in NSCF 19, bringing home their fifth Celestia Conference title and, most importantly to them, their first ever NSCF championship, defeating their archrivals, Loyola-Istria, in the semifinal en route to defeating Richardson University, of Ranoria, in the championship game. Now, they’ve always been a football school, let’s be clear. However, they have struggled mightly on the international stage in the NSCAA.

This season, they are members of the Flying Drawk Conference. They are currently 6-12 in conference play, struggling mightily against some of the multiverse’s best competition. The season actually started fairly OK for them, but then, got much worse. They started 2-1, and were even 4-3 at one point, above .500, and fighting for a NSCAA tournament berth. But after that, it all went off the rails.

They have won just two of their last 11 games, going from 4-3 to 6-12. NSCAA tournament berth, outside of an outright miracle in the Flying Drawk Conference tournament, is simply not going to happen. They have one of the worst offenses in the conference, putting up 1,343 points over 18 games- which is averaging just a hair under 75 points per game. In the modern game, that’s simply not good enough. The offense is bad, the shooting is poor, and the ball movement is slow. Expect them to blow it up in the offseason, and wait for a new coach who can bring that coveted international success.

University of Loyola-Istria

For the Blue Thunder, it has been a different story than their archrivals. While their archrivals to the North are struggling, it is the Blue Thunder, the three time NSCF finalist, and two time NSCF champions, who are a classic bubble team to make the NSCAA tournament. They have been a solid, but not spectacular, group of players this season. Their 10-9 record, just a hair above .500, is likely to land them either just outside of the final selection of 64, or give them a very poor seed- leading to what would likely be an early exit from the NSCAA tournament. That, of course, would be a major disappointment for the Blue Thunder, who had higher ambitions for the season.

The Blue Thunder, however, have been on a sort of a mini resurgence. The team was 6-8 after 14 games played, and looked to be in the same position as their archrivals to the North. On their way out with a whimper, once again, of the NSCAA, and big questions to ask of their college basketball program. However, they have come back up since then. They are winners of four of their last five games, to pull above .500. They are poising themselves for a late season run to win a few games, improve that record, and get into the field of 64.

Dawit Petros, the first year head coach, told us that his team ‘expects’ to be in the field of 64 this season. “It is going to be hard to get there, and we have not done enough yet.” He told us. “But I like the way that this team is rounding into form. When you finish strong, you have a strong chance of impressing the committee, and the start of the second half of the season, the business half, has gone nicely for us. It is never easy to enter the NSCAA tournament. To get to the field of 64 is a challenge. However, if we can continue our momentum we’ve established over the past five days, keep moving the ball well, keep shooting well, then we are absolutely capable of playing in big games, when they matter most, in the tournament.”

University of Ankole

The Ankole Warrriors have been a team hovering right around .500- and that leaves them on the outside looking in, rather than on the inside, looking out. At 7-8, they do not have the strongest argument to make the Big Dance right now. However, unlike, say, Northern Moravica, there is still time to right the ship. A strong finish to the regular season, as well as a strong conference tournament, could see Ankole have enough chances to impress the committee to gain an at-large bid.

The Warriors are members of the Newlands Conference, and sitting in 8th place, haflway through the season. What can they do to right the ship, and put themselves in the postseason? This strikingly average squad needs to do something to separate themselves from the pack. I say strikingly average, because they’re a half game under .500, they are an equidistant number of places between 1st place and last place in the conference, and, of course, they seem to have been level throughout the season so far. Although they started 3-1, they were 4-4 after Matchday 8, 6-6 after Matchday 12, and 7-8 now.

The key to success for this team will be their senior dominated lineup. Four of their five starters are seniors, who have NSCAA experience, and who want to be playing in the big games. Those guys have seen it all, they are ready for the big stage, and the bright lights. Can they seize the moment? They play in a tough conference, and no single game is ever easy in the NSCAA. They are going to have to go on a run. An offensive breakout, or something, to get a streak going, could be enough to push them over the top, and into the Big Dance.

University of Moravica

It is the University of Moravica who has, indisputably, been the cream of the crop for the Banijan sides. Sitting at 13-2, near the top of the United 15 Conference, University of Moravica is the only Banijan team that looks like nearly a certain lock for the postseason, forget about chances for a trophy. They have had an excellent season, outperforming their regional and national compatriots. Has their success been a surprise? It most certainly has.

They are 2nd in the conference in points scored, averaging a solid 86 points per game. Now, it is interesting that this is the best Banijan team. Out of the four universities that the Banijan Collegiate Sports Group sent to the NSCAA, this is easily the smallest. Northern Moravica and Loyola-Istria, of course, are famously Banija’s oldest, largest, and richest universities, each being almost 200 years old. Even Ankole, as the flagship university for the Ankole region, is fairly large.

But you compare those three large, urban universities, to this smaller, rural one, and there is no real comparison. Out in Slobochia, it was created so that not every university in Moravica was on the coast- an option for rural folks, those who lived further inland, who didn’t want to go to school on the coast necessarily. Their arena holds less than 7,000, and they are a 90 minute drive from the closest airport, Greater Istria International Airport.

But they have, quietly, developed an excellent basketball program in Eastern Moravica. The program, of course, is centered on freshman point guard Ibezimako Akabueze. This is a team that likes to play high tempo, that likes to run, and move the ball quickly. The freshman learned the offense very quickly, and has allowed the rest of the team to click. The ball keeps moving, there is very little isolation basketball, and this team shoots the living daylights out of the ball, especially from deep. They will go as far as the freshman takes them. IF the offense can continue living up to the high standards they have set for themselves, they will go far. If not… Well, they might crash. For the time being, however, they look like Banija’s safest best to get a team into the big dance.

Grande Mountain’s Brittney Mahoney Makes Insensitive Remarks,
by Kayla Rathke, Concord Heights Times

Brittney Mahoney, seen as one of the best freshman in Cassadagan basketball, who was heavily recruited by most major institutions before settling on Grande Mountain University is in a little bit of hot water today after some insensitive remarks she made towards Seth Johnson University, the all-male school also from Grande Mountain that is also in the NSCAA tournament. In a Spacebook post, Mahoney wrote:

“Once again, Seth Johnson University is given a handout in the NSCAA Tournament because it’s an all-male school. They didn’t do shit at home this year, playing a simplistic schedule, and were ousted in the second round when they had to play a school that deserved to be there. Yet, there they are, while better Cassadagan programs are left behind.”

That part is not too bad. Opinionated, but that’s where we will leave it. It’s where Mahoney went next that will get some people, mostly men, a little riled up:

“It’s all part of the stupid policies of the Queen, who I’d otherwise want to respect, to change Cassadaigua from what made it great, where women are the most powerful, to this newer country, giving gender equality. You want complete equality, there are many different countries you can travel too. Seth Johnson University is what is wrong with our country on so many levels, and not surprisingly, it was named after a weakling to begin with.”

Coach Sarah Edwards offered an apology on behalf of the team and announced that Mahoney will sit out the next two games. Brittney has not offered an apology, and even after the team-imposed suspension, comment, “It’s my opinion, and if you don’t like it, idgaf.”

CSU flying high in NSCAA 10

by Lily Hernandez
Journal-Herald Staff

As they head towards the last couple of weeks of their NSCAA foray, Coolville State's men's basketball team find them in possession of first place in their conference, riding the wave of 15 wins in a row.

The Vikes have shown they have plenty of balance across their lineup, as Marlon Spencer has stepped into the hole left by the graduation of Dennis Carter and exceeded expectations, averaging 12.5 ppg as well as doubling his rebounding totals from last season as a sub. hauling in close to 7 boards per game.

Luke Boyle and Clay Montgomery have both picked up where they left off, as they have combined with Spencer to present a formidable frontline challenge against their Woodlands Conference opponents.

Coach Tim Gossinger has utilized his bench to get the maximum production from subs Barry O'Neill, Isaiah Webster, and Leon Sinclair.

The school has been pleased with the crowds that have filled Schraeder Arena, and the last home game at Civic Center Arena drew 11,000 for the game against previous champions Elmander District College of Drawkland, the last opponent who defeated them during this winning streak. The school plans to hold one of their final 2 home contests at the CC, subject to discussions with the police and the Civic Center Commission.

NSCAA Recap Episode 3

Postby Drawkland » Sat Mar 23, 2019 5:19 pm

Image

NSCAA RECAP EPISODE 3
Written By: Nick Fleming and Niccolo Dee

So as soon as all the conferences got up to the same level, another couple lost some ground based on same scheduling errors. It's all good though, we still have the new set of updated rankings out here.

While it's still been a fair amount of time since the rankings were compiled, like last time, the list has remained mostly the same. Only the bottom couple of teams are over 7 losses on the season ... every 20+ win team has stayed in the ranks, as well as a few of the Newlands and United 15 teams who are still a tad behind.

EPISODE 3 TOP 25
By now it's only a short stretch until the end of regular conference play, most teams only have one or two games left before their season is over and the conference tournaments begin. While the conference tournaments are important for the lesser teams to still have a shot at glory and the Ultra 64, the standings are the most important for the stronger teams. The first-placed team in the conference is guaranteed a berth whether or not they win the conference tournament, and the second-placed school gets the auto berth if the first-placed team wins it all. Otherwise, the other teams are all at the mercy of the at-large voters.

And while a great majority of these ranked schools are likely to gain the automatic berths into the tournament, if their luck takes a turn for the worse, these should be the first ones atop an at-large list. Of course, no bias or obligations here, but we're confident in our ranking system. In any case, any team on this list has a reasonable shout for winning the conference tournament.

Top 25 Rankings
1. Ducentu State University (DRK) (25-1; +632) (Eternal)
2. University of Tundra Falls (NEW) (25-1; +421) (Five Star)
3. Sadeg State University (DRK) (24-2; +594) (Sky Blue)
4. Elmanden District College (DRK) (24-2; +592) (Woodlands)

25. Concord Heights Beauty School (CDG) (19-7; +326) (Sky Blue)

Nation Rankings
1. Drawkland: 8
2. Newmanistan: 6
3. Baker Park: 3
4. Lisander: 3
5. Cassadaigua: 3
6. Valanora: 1
7. Banija: 1

Atop the rankings, you may see a new face. Well, not exactly new, but one that hadn't been at the top before. As we predicted, Ducentu State University ended up rising to the top of the rankings! While they did take a loss (one at home to North Charlotte Empire University), they've been tearing up the competition more than anyone else so far. At a +632 point differential, they're averaging a 25 point margin of victory every single game. Nobody has come close to the Eagles' show of dominance so far, although that's not to say there's still dominant teams out there. Newmanistan's University of Tundra Falls has risen from #5 at last poll to #2 here, an impressive 11-game win streak keeping them one of the four 1-loss teams still in it (and one of two who've nearly played the full slate). The other two one-loss schools who inhabited #1 and #3 last poll, Corinth City and Cemmendy Tech of Drawkland, have been held back by the accidentally wonky scheduling of the Newlands and United 15 Conferences. They dropped a bit in the rankings, but if they continue to be as good as they have been, they'll shoot right back up.

Meanwhile, a small and still-elite group of schools remain near the top with only 2 losses on a near-full slate. Two of these are Drawkian, Sadeg State and Elmanden District, but the other two are of Baker Park, Coolville State and Endover. Sadeg State dropped just one spot in the rankings, thanks to a loss to Polithecnia Soria at home very recently, as well as the wonky scheduling. But what's interesting about Elmanden District and Coolville State is that both schools are in the Woodlands Conference, and in a tight battle for the top spot. With both teams having only 2 games left, and having both played each other twice, it's all up to themselves. Elmanden has the massively superior point differential, as well as the leading H2H differential, so all Coolville State can do is hope Elmanden drops one of their final two games against easy opponents if they want to get the automatic bid to the tournament. The last main 2-loss team is the University of Endover, currently leading the Big Seven Eight conference and likely to take it, ignoring unlikely circumstance. This is their highest ranking so far, improving 4 slots from #6 to #10.

Rounding out the Top 10 are a large crop of Drawkian schools, all of them 23-3 save for Corinth City, mentioned above. While all of these, Drawk Corps U, Old Mountain, Corinth City, and Cavsar may not be the most powerful programs currently playing ball, they're all in an easy position to qualify for the tournament. Three of the four are leading their conference, while Old Mountain in the Five Star Conference is simply waiting for the tournament for a chance to either upset Tundra Falls in the conference tournament or hope they take it to get the second auto-bid.

The final 23-3 team are Pocono City University, the second Newmanistani university from the top. While they are currently leading the Flying Drawk Conference, only two slots below them in the ranks stands Universitas Concordia Kasandora from Lisander, sporting a 22-4 record and an incredibly +571 point differential. This level of play is on par with several Drawkian universities in the Top 5, and only a few key losses separates them from the top of the ranks. Unfortunately for Pocono City, Concordia Kasandora has the superior differential and head-to-head ... meaning that both of Pocono's final games are must-wins. To make matters worse, their next match is against Rajendragadh College, the school that handed Pocono City their first loss of the season.

Universidade Portia, also of Lisander, is the second of two 22-4 teams. They likely aren't going to win the Big Seven Eight, even with their impressive point output, but they definitely still will have a shot at the conference tournament. We expect Portia to be one of the first teams on the At-Large listing, unless they get good luck in the tournament against Endover. Near them in the rankings are a couple 22-5 teams, a few teams who have late byes and only have one game left on the season. Curiously, this pair of 22-5 teams, New Lakeland University of Cassadaigua and Pocono City Tech of Newmanistan, are the only teams making the rankings who only have a single game left in their regular season. New Lakeland is unlikely to recover the Royal Conference from Drawk Corps U, as Pocono City Tech is unlikely to recover the Pink 15 from Cavsar. Spooky how much these teams have in common.

The next school in the rankings, Belle Haven State, are also in the struggle of the Pink 15 being out of reach, barring a good tournament showing. They still have an extra game to go at least, being 21-5, but their differential likely isn't going to reach Pocono City Tech's levels barring a couple of massive blowouts. Also riding the 21-5 train are Concord Heights from Cassadaigua, and the unlikely entry of Turbani Tech in the rankings. Valanora's schools quickly fell out of the rankings at the second poll, with Turbani Tech barely not making it in with a 13-5 record. Since then, though, they've put on a lovely 9-game win streak to raise them back up in the heights. Being third in the Five Star Conference, especially with the #2 school leading the pack, it's unlikely they'll get an automatic berth into the tournament. However, they are definitely the prime Vanorian school that will make the At-Large listing.

We now approach the 20s of the Top 25. Half of these schools were higher-ranked schools that dropped thanks to the weird scheduling of the Newlands and United 15, but will be likely to have an easy chance at gaining auto-bids once their conference tournaments come around. These schools are the University of Moravica (Banija), Keisler College, and Southport University (Newmanistan). The other half, Loudon Empire (Newmanistan), Polithecnia Soria (Lisander), and Concord Heights Beauty School (Cassadaigua), are unlikely to be making the tournament automatically and will be relying on their relatively solid performances to earn them a bid to the Ultra 64. Loudon Empire University simply had a stretch of bad luck in the Big Seven Eight, not being able to stay ahead with the more powerful programs in the conference. Polithecnia Soria, on the other hand, were much higher ranked in the last poll at #7. Since then, however, they'd taken 5 big losses, and are now tied with Concord Heights Beauty School in the Sky Blue conference. With an identical record and point differential, Soria and CHBS may look very similar on paper, but both of them are the only teams to have defeated Sadeg State thus far. Soria gets the nod for the better victory, a more recent 78-83 victory as opposed to CHBS's mere 75-77 victory over the Skyhawks.

The nation rankings have stayed relatively stagnant. Drawkland remains firmly at the top with all 8 schools in the Top 25, while Newmanistan also kept all 6 of their ranked entries ranked (while the other two stayed below such honors). Lisander suffered a couple drops, going down to 3 in the top 25, while Cassadaigua gained another to also hit 3 and Valanora managed to get their lone entry in Turbani Tech a place. Baker Park held on to their 3 in the ranks and their Endover and Coolville State both have solid seatings in the Top 10. Finally, Banija's Moravica stayed in the ranks despite their United 15 conference losing a bit of ground.

Like we said, with the conference tournaments just around the corner, you can expect most of the Top 25 to be getting automatic bids into the Ultra 64. 20 spots are up for grabs, as each conference sends 2 entries, but accidents happen. A good 5-10 schools in these rankings will likely need the voter's help to get into the tournament, and they're more than likely to get it. Every one of these schools are potential threats to win the tournament or make deep runs ... but only time will tell how they pan out.

SPECIAL FEATURE
This may not be directly related to the Top 25 rankings, but it is a little interesting for the general NSCAA populous. Most Drawkian schools have a large set of uniforms to choose from in the domestic college league, but have elected to get an international source for their kits for the NSCAA. The professional designers out in Saint Kanye have supplied the uniforms for all the Drawkian NSCAA schools thus far, and after a little deliberation, the newcomers in Cavsar University finally have their own NSCAA kits.

Enjoy them here, as we doubt many have seen them before (unlike the other universities from Drawkland).

Banijan schools approaching conference tournaments with momentum

Image
Northern Moravica fans after a big home win

HERZEGOVINA CITY, MORAVICA, BANIJA- We came here, about halfway throughout the NSCAA season, to talk about the chances of the four Banijan schools to make it to the NSCAA tournament. The BCSG, concerned about the struggles of Banijan universities going into the season, made the decision to only send four schools to the NSCAA, rather than the 8 that they are allowed. Concerns about the depth of college basketball within the country were what factored into this decision making process, and Banija ended up with its top four basketball schools- U of Moravica, Northern Moravica, Loyola-Istria, and U of Ankole, in the NSCAA. We talked about them about halfway through the regular season. Now, the regular season is over, and the conference tournaments are coming- the final chance to impress the committee before the NSCAA tournament is here. How are Banijan teams doing?

Northern Moravica University

Northern Moravica was the first school we talked about last time, and for good reason- they were struggling mightily in the NSCAA. They were 6-12, their coach was on the verge of getting fired, and they were, by all accounts, on their way to crashing all the way out of the NSCAA, and being an afterthought- getting laughed at by their Banijan rivals, especially their archrivals to the South, Loyola-Istria. Their college football success in the NSCF was not being replicated on the courts, and there was supposed to be some deep soul searching at the Banija’s oldest and largest public school.

That, of course, was then. What’s happening now?

The story has changed- the narrative has been turned on its head. Instead of embarrassingly crashing out of the NSCAA to the jeers of rival fans, the Cougars have been on an absolute tear since that point in the season. They have gone from entirely off the radar, to a team that is now firmly on the bubble in terms of their NSCAA chances. Since the midway point, when we last reviewed them, they have won 9 of their last 10 to finally have a winning record, 15-13 at the end of the regular season, and which puts them firmly on the bubble. One of the hottest teams in the sport, they are on such a tear that almost nobody wants to play them right now.

Of course, with their late season surge, they are certainly going to be on the committee’s mind when it comes to handing out those at-large bids. But they know- they must finish the season strong if they are to have any shot. That means, at an absolute minimum, winning the game that they are big favorites to win. That would be their first round matchup at Sentinel Indoor Stadium. But then, of course, they face a daunting matchup with the University of Concord Heights- a school that is 21-7, and has legitimate title aspirations. If they pull off the upset here, that will be a massive statement win- one that will make a powerful case for their inclusion in the tournament. If not, their late season resume will be their best bet, but expect them to get a poor seed. Regardless, it will be a fun one to watch as Northern fans head to Drawkland for the tournament.

University of Loyola-Istria

The University of Loyola-Istria have been the same, and consistent, pretty much for the course of the entire season. The last time we wrote in this column, even though they had won four of their last five games, they were 10-9, and floating around the .500 mark. We said, for them to get off of bubble status and into the NSCAA tournament, they’d need to move their record up, and win a few more games. Get a little more consistency, continue the slight hot streak they were on at the time.

It is their archrivals to the North that took that advice. For the better or for the worse, the Blue Thunder have stayed the same for nearly the course of the entire season. Hovering right around the .500 mark, no better, no worse. And, of course, they lost their last two games of the season. That is why their 15-13 record, just a game above .500, does not seem equivalent to the same exact record held by their archrivals to the North, as the Cougars have won 9 of their last 10 and are playing their best basketball of the season, while the Blue Thunder are still middling, still trying to find that consistency.

This leaves them firmly on the bubble- but it may see them on the outside, looking in. What is going to happen next for the Blue Thunder? This team has been so even throughout the season, such an average squad, that they have a point differential, after 28 basketball games, of exactly zero- exactly 2,105 points allowed on the season, and 2,105 points scored. A goal difference of exactly zero would be rare after a single season of soccer, but of basketball? Impressive.

Their NSCAA tournament hopes, even if they are on the outside looking in right now, will depend on their conference tournament. Can they find some consistency? Even at 15-13, they are fifth in the conference. Their first game, against 12th seeded Tamarskand Fief University, is an absolute must win. There are no excuses- they absolutely must win that game. But after that, likely comes a second round matchup with North Charlotte Empire.

That game is a seemingly must win matchup as well. They needed to pad their resume, and what better way to do so than against an 18-10 team in conference? They need to add quality wins to their resume, and that seems to be the best opportunity to do so during the conference tournament. Expecting them to make a large run in the conference tournament might be a little bit much, but that is not unreasonable. They’ll need to put everything on the line in that one though, as a loss in the first two rounds could end their NSCAA tournament hopes.

University of Ankole

When we last visited the Ankole Warriors, they were hovering right around the .500 mark in NSCAA play, with a record of 7-8. They were largely poised to continue that, and be in the same position as their counterparts above- just around the .500 mark, battling with their lives for a NSCAA tournament berth, and the University of Ankole being on the outside looking in. But then, of course, things changed. They were 10-9, winning three of four, and then, they were 12-11, splitting two games in a four game set.

But it is Matchdays 25-28 where they saved their season. Four wins in a row to save their season, and put them firmly back from the outside looking in, to probably in the section of teams that would be somewhere between a 12 and a 14 seed, if the bracket had to be made today. Of course, two of those wins were against the worst team in the conference- Harxwell, and the Craft Institute of Technology, respectively. But it is the other two wins, a pair of quality wins over NSCAA tournament contenders, that will catch the committee’s attention.

One, of course, is Matchday 28’s 11 point away victory over the University of Republica, in FFR. That was a strong win for the Banijan school, that gave them a quality away win over a quality opponent, a team that Is just one game behind Ankole in the conference standings. But It was matchday 25 that drew the most headlines, and that will really make a statement. A 25 point victory, at home, over Seth John University, of Cassadaigua. Seth Johnson, of course, finished the season at 23-5, so this is certainly a high quality win for the Warriors.

Still, at 16-12, there is some work to do for Ankole if they want to get to the NSCAA tournament. A first round matchup with Queensland A&M will see them as the favorites, of course. But then, a tough matchup with Keisler College awaits them. If they want to win, they’ll need to get to the weekend, and the conference tournament semifinals. Does that make the first two games of the conference tournament must-win? It absolutely does. However, they will like the opportunity they face- with two wins, they should be in, though of course, we’ll have to see where they rank.

University of Moravica

The University is still sitting as the cream of the crop of the Banijan entries in the NSCAA. The three aforementioned schools, Northern Moravica, U of Moravica, and U of Ankole, are all teams that are firmly on the bubble- unless they spark a shock win in their conference tournaments, they will be sweating all the way until Selection Sunday. But those same set of facts simply don’t apply to Banija’s most dominant institution, the University of Moravica.

From start to finish, they have been the most complete Banijan team, and it shows in their record- at 23-5, they finished second in the United 15 Conference, even if they finished three games behind Corinth City, who is fighting for a #1 seed in the NSCAA tournament at 26-2. But they have stayed strong for the duration of the season, being able to finish strong and, most importantly, continue playing the sound, fundamental basketball that has gotten them this far. The University of Moravica missing the big dance, entirely, would certainly be shocking.

Now, of course, we have to look at what seeding they might get in the NSCAA tournament. It might come down to the conference tournament- they don’t want to get upset by a lower ranked team. If they are to get a top four seed, and therefore a favorable path to the Sweet 16, we’d have to image they’d have to, at bare minimum, advance to the semifinals of the conference tournament. They’re looking at a first round matchup with last place North Furtada State, who have just 3 wins on the season. And then a second round matchup with the winner of San Marco v. Nostsian. Both games, the University of Moravica will be favorites.

That is, of course, the bare minimum. From there, the path gets tougher. The Conference tournament semifinals will likely be against Southport, from Newmanistan, who are just a single game behind the University of Moravica in the conference standings. A win there would really be able to vault them up the seedings table- though a loss would, barring any stunning upsets elsewhere, would likely leave them in the category of a 4 or a 5 seed range. And then, of course, a title bout likely with the 2 loss Corinth City squad- though, of course, the University of Moravica has already beaten them once.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens. But this will be Banija’s best chance, of course, of our first ever deep run in the NSCAA tournament.

Falcons soar in NSCAA 10
by Mark Riley
The Western Observer

Osheana State's men's basketball team have reached the end of their season in the Newlands Conference, finishing just a game behind Cemmendy Tech in 2nd place. They currently ride an 11 game winning streak into the conference tournament, where they will face Craft Institute of Technology in the first round.

Their 24-4 overall mark should see them make their way into the field for the NSCAA tournament, where the top 64 teams will battle it out to determine the champion.

All four schools representing the Commonwealth have performed above expectations so far, as Enodover have won their conference outright, while Coolville State finished in a tie for first, but will be the second seed, and defending UAC National Champion Belle Haven State finished tied for second and will be the third seeded team in their upcoming conference tourney. In addition to the Falcon winning streak, each of the other 3 have put together double digit winning streaks at one point or another during the campaign.
