Jungle Cats survive Apoxian Quarter Final barrage

Image
The Barbaria, Gwinevra Gwinerva, Apox :: As the Vilitan National Team stepped out onto the pitch at The Barbaria led once again by their goalkeeper Mako Canopii, they were already writing their names in the history books, having accomplished something that no Vilitan side had ever done before. Unlike their neighbors Turori, who were the symbol of World Cup consistency with their near perpetual Quarter Final Round appearances; and defeats in their nations history, the Vilitan National Team had always been more of an all or nothing side. After crashing out in the Group Stage on their debut in World Cup 15, losing in the Round of 16 to Commerce Heights in Rejistania during World Cup 16 and then progressing to the Quarter Finals on home soil during World Cup 17 before losing to Liventia, it seemed the sky was the limit for Helmut Vilkaous' Jungle Cats. Unfortunately the limit would be much closer than the sky for the Vilitan side who fell back to reality just as quickly as they had climbed the ladder with a Round of 16 exit at the hands of Dance 2 Revolution in World Cup 18 the Vilitans were eliminated in the Group Stage of World Cup 19 in Turori by an up-and-coming regional rival named 'Starblaydia'. It seemed the Jungle Cats had hit their wall.

Then, that same up and coming nation in Purple and White was elected as host of World Cup 20. The rest, as they say, is history as the Vilitan National Team went from footnote to phenom as they stunned Audioslavia 1-0 to win the World Cup title. Just as quickly as they seemed to be on the way back to mediocrity, the Jungle Cats were on top of the multiverse. But they wouldn't stay there long. After being on the wrong end of the highest scoring match in World Cup Finals history, an 8-7 defeat to eventual World Cup 21 champions Bedistan, the Vilitan National Team who at climbed to the pinnacle of the sport at the conclusion of World Cup 20 was embarrassingly dumped out of the Round of 16 2-0 by Commerce Heights in front of the home fans in Vilita. While the fans were disappointed to not contend for the World Cup title on their home soil, they perhaps didn't understand the need to appreciate what they had accomplished as it would take another 12 World Cup Finals before Vilita even returned to the knockout rounds.

In fact, success was so fleeting for the Jungle Cats throughout their history that even when they were crowned Champions of the World Cup, their overall record was not even strong enough to lift them to the #1 position in the rankings. When the Vilita National Team lifted the World Cup title for the second time in their history during World Cup 68, their fall from grace was even faster than it was the first time around, not even making it to the Quarter Finals during their title defending campaign and being knocked out in the Group Stage just one Cup later. The story was the same after World Cup 77 when their so-called Champions tour was terminated in the Round of 16 by Eura and the subsequent World Cup 79 campaign once again ended in the Group Stage with defeat by Pasarga.

Throughout their history it seemed there was a defined limit to the Vilitans success. Unlike their neighbors Turori who hit a ceiling whenever they made it to the Quarter Finals and could not progress, Vilita were allowed to overachieve throughout their history - but any time they did something - beit karma, probability or Margaret herself ensured that things averaged back out very quickly. So when the final spot kick was resolved and the Vilita Jungle Cats had survived their top-of-the-mutiverse Round of 16 clash against South Covello, not only had they won one of the most highly anticipated match ups of the World Cup 82 Finals but they had re-written the historical record of Vilitan footsport. For the first time in the history of the national team, the Vilita Jungle Cats had advanced to the Quarter Final stage for three consecutive World Cups. The consistency was something that their neighbors Turori had always been able to hang over their heads and while statistically it may truly have meant Turori were the better team, Vilita would always have their flashes in the pan - their World Cup titles to defend themselves with.

Now, however, for the first time in their history, the Vilita National Team was showing some consistency as well. Of course, the Turorians had to one up them qualifying for their fourth straight Quarter Final but they still didn't have the World Cup. The Vilitans did. Now, for the first time in their history, they also had strung together a consistent foundation to build themselves from. Three straight World Cups where they had reached at least the Quarter Final phase. It was without question a new era in Vilitan sport. The only question that remained was just how far could these Jungle Cats go.

After facing the top opponent in the multiverse on the pitch during the Round of 16, the Jungle Cats reward for victory was a meeting against the top remaining opposition off the pitch. Sure, the Apox team and their Platypus and emergency worker inspired uniforms may have been the lowest ranked team remaining in the competition, but they were the home team. Their fans would be out in force and they certainly wouldn't let the Vilitan fans have their fair share of the arena. It would be a sea of White and Red at the Barbaria, foam Platypus bills would be obstructing views through at least three quarters of the stadium and no one would be mad about it as the Apoxian side had advanced to the Quarter Finals for the first time in their history.

At first they were just happy to be there. The players were all smiles and interacting with the fans as they came out of the tunnel, a celebration of Apoxian sport, hosting the multiverses greatest competition and their beloved team still in the thick of the action.

The smiles would turn more serious at least on the face of the players once the match got kicked off even as the jubilant fans still chanted away in the stands. The support that Apox received from their fans seemed to erase the 33-place gap between the two sides in the World Rankings as they fought tooth and nail with the defending World Champions, causing problems in the midfield and threatening the Jungle Cats defense.

The inevitable breakthrough in a match that was always going to be slanted towards the offensive game finally came just before the half hour mark when Dwile Warriors striker Marcy Blake-Tatum rewarded the confidence shown in her by the coaching staff in starting her over Lucan Palmisano. Blake-Tatum executed a marvelous spinning volley on a ball that was flicked in by Cassiopeia Quintero and the crowd crescendoed in anticipation as the ball looped over the head of Mako Canopii and dropped just under the bar to put the home team out in front. The crowd who had barely had an opportunity to quiet down was now fully enraptured as they began to visualize the possibility of their team taking down the defending World Champions in the World Cup Quarter Finals.

Things would get a littler quieter by half time however as the Jungle Cats eventually settled into the match and broke up the momentum that had been built up by the Apoxian Army with a quickfire double in the 31st and 34th minute from Rintala Sekagaya and Sipke Tarala that put Vilita back in front 2-1. The Vilitans would hold on to their lead until half time but it was no easy road as Apox continued to pressure Mako Canopii's penalty area.

Realizing that they would need fresh legs in the second half, the Vilitans made a pair of changes at the half with Rintala Sekagaya who scored the opener for the Jungle Cats giving way for Cywrenta Vlintejni while Tinjus Mngomeni was replaced by Marine Coast United attacker Fishtii Blikala.

It was perhaps the strategic advantage that the Jungle Cats needed to escape the raucous environment with a win as the home side made no changes at the half due to their strong performance against the top ranked side. The result however was a slow start for Apox and an abundance of energy for the Jungle Cats, particularly on the part of Blikala and Vlintejna who combined for a pair of nifty chances early in the second half. Blikala cranked a shot off the crossbar within two minutes of the restart causing chaos in the Apox penalty area. The ball was only half cleared by Imhotep Jekyll and fell to Limu Katarahkna at the edge of the box. The Eastal Lunar midfielder blistered the ball back towards the net and past an offset Spitfire to give the Jungle Cats some breathing room on the scoresheet.

3-1 lead and their sights set on the Semi-Finals, the Jungle Cats took their foot off the gas briefly and the home side took advantage swinging the momentum back in their favor when Imriel Townsend blasted a long range effort that struck Inbekira Ajhabekk on its way through the penalty area, redirecting beyond Mako Canopii and into the back of the net to reduce the Jungle Cats lead back to a single goal.

Image
With a The two sides would switch to a different probing style of play over the next fifteen minutes until a mistake from substitute defender Osmosis Gandhi threatened to be the final blow for the home side. As Sipke Tarala attempted to go around Ayrton Fox from the left hand corner of the box the Urbanista defender skillfully stepped a foot in the path of the ball and cleared it away from Sabrefell Athletics big money signing. Unfortunately for Fox and the entire Apox team the clearance only made it as far as the outstretched arm of Gandhi who had been fighting off the run of Fishtii Blikala. The referee quickly pointed to the spot much to the dismay of the home supporters and the 50-million monetary unit striker Tarala marched confidently to the penalty spot with ball in hand.

Time stood still as the World Cup Semi-Final dream for both sides seemed to rest on the moment. For a brief second after Tarala struck the ball the energy from the home crowd could be heard as the ball smacked off the gloves of Tregatta Spitfire. The FC Endeavour net minder could not control the rebound however and Tarala had the wherewithal to follow through on the shot, meeting the rebound and chipping it back across the line over the fallen Spitfire to restore Vilita's two-goal advantage.

Spitfire was true to their namesake after the goal, spitting fire at the referee for the initial call and earning a yellow card for their trouble before turning their attention to the defense for not beating Tarala to the rebound. In the end it was just frustration seeping through however as there was little more anyone could do in such a scenario. The moment ended up killing much of the energy that the game had demonstrated for the first hour of player but just when it seemed things had been settled Clarissa Ephraim-Garza was the benefactor of a cross-turned-shot that snuck inside the back post as Apox made one final push to catch the Jungle Cats. It set up a grand stand finish with first three minutes, then four, then five minutes into stoppage time as Apox strung together a series of late corner kicks but the match finally ended when Ephraim-Garza's 95th minute corner-kick was headed by the colorfully vested Tregatta Spitfire straight into the arms of Yeaddin Owls AFC goalkeeper Mako Canopii.

While the Apoxian fans had all stuck around for the finish to give their team a well deserved round of applause, it was the Jungle Cats who ultimately came out victorious as they booked their spot in the World Cup Semi-Final to be played against The Holy Empire at the Stadium of Apox in Dwile.

World Cup 74 Playoff Leg 2

When the Vilita Jungle Cats and The Holy Empire's Terrible Poets face off in the World Cup 82 Semi-Finals they will do so for the first time as a pair of four-time World Cup Champions. They will also be doing so with a shot at the World Cup Finals on the line. Additionally, a victory for The Holy Empire would become the first nation to ever appear in 10 all time World Cup Final matches. The Holy Empire are currently tied for the all time World Cup Final appearances mark at nine along with the World Cup's all time lovable losers, Audioslavia. While the Vilita Jungle Cats and The Holy Empire don't play each frequently, they do have a long history that goes back to their first ever meeting at the Cup of Harmony for World Cup 30 and will continue when the sides meet in the World Cup 82 Semi-Finals for a high stakes rivalry that has spanned 52 World Cup cycles.

It will be the first meeting between the two Hall of Fame nations since the 74th World Cup Cycle. The stakes then were both extremely similar and very different than they were about to be in Apox for the World Cup 82 Semi Finals. The two legged meeting between Vilita and The Holy Empire during the World Cup 74 cycle was also a win-or-go-home type affair with a place in the World Cup Finals on the line. Thats Final(s) with an 'S' at the end of it. Instead of competing for a spot in the World Cup Final - the championship match culminating the World Cup cycle where the winner is awarded the World Cup, the captain holds it over their head and the entire team poses for photographs with it, the most recent meeting between Vilita and The Holy Empire was instead a two-legged playoff just to decide whether or not they would advance to the World Cup Finals themselves in Valladares and San Jose Guayabal.

Heading into the World Cup 74 Qualifiers the Vilita National Team were ranked 4th in the multiverse while The Holy Empire were ranked 9th - a combined ranking of 13 just one greater than the two nations current combined ranking of 12 in the World Cup 82 Finals. The format during World Cup 74 Qualifiers was quite unforgiving, however, with only 12 matches, and both Vilita and the Holy Empire had struggled to secure the necessary results to secure an automatic qualification spot into the World Cup Finals. Instead, they were each tossed into a giant pot spitting out a slew of playoff round matches that would see one nation advance to the World Cup Finals and one sent off to the Cup of Harmony. As the two highest ranked nations in the draw, it seemed unlikely they could be drawn against each other but as fate would have it that is exactly how things would happen with #4 Vilita squaring off against #9 The Holy Empire, two top ten teams with only one spot in the World Cup Final(s) available to them. For the first time it was a pair of Top 10 nations being drawn together in an elimination playoff for entry into the World Cup Finals. Two teams who might otherwise have been Pot 1 or at worst Pot 2 teams in the World Cup Finals, either way being favored to go through, one would need to be sacrificed.

This time, the Jungle Cats would survive with a 2-1 victory in the opening leg and then holding serve with a 1-1 draw in the return fixture to ensure their place in the World Cup Finals and send The Holy Empire packing. Despite the two legged playoff there had still been just 9 all time meetings between the two sides that had otherwise contested over a thousand matches in World Cup and associated competition history. While their meetings had been spread out across the timeline of history, it did at times seem that each time the two teams were drawn against each other the Stakes were raised just a little bit higher. The first time these two sides were ever drawn together was in the Cup of Harmony after both teams had failed to qualify for the World Cup 30 Finals. After a disappointing World Cup 30 Qualification campaign for both nations they would bebe drawn together along with the favored side Spruitland and Vilita's neighbors and friendly rivals Turori. Going into the final matchday of the Cup of Harmony's double round robin group stage, The Holy Empire were level with the Island Emirate of Turori in the battle for the second advancement place behind Spruitland. Vilita, meanwhile, were rooted to the foot of the table, with only a victory and a Turori loss to Spruitland on the final matchday able to save them. With it all on the line, goals from Riccardo Appolloni, Jonjo Hulyer and Kris Wrice gave the Jungle Cats a 3-2 victory and a first ever win over The Holy Empire. In the end, however, it was not enough as Turori recorded a big win of their own over Spruitland to advance, leaving Vilita & The Holy Empire on the outside looking in, going home early and eliminated from the Cup of Harmony.

Despite the setbacks, both nations would re-bound from their brief appearance in the Cup of Harmony and establish themselves as World Cup Finals regulars throughout the next ten cycles. The two teams would be drawn together for the second time in their history during the World Cup 36 Qualification phase. By this point Vilita had rebounded and were climbing the multiverse rankings once again thanks to a 4th place finish in World Cup 35. World Cup 36 Qualifying, however, would signal a change. It would signal a downturn in fortune for the Jungle Cats that would lead to one of the darkest stretches of competitive sport in the history of the Tropics. For The Holy Empire, it would also be a turning point but a turning point of a very different nature. The Holy Empire spring-boarded off a solid World Cup 36 qualification campaign into the realm of the elite, taking down the defending World Cup Semi-Finalists and laying the ground work of the Dynasty that would begin to establish itself over the next 10 cycles.

The two nations would not meet again until World Cup 62, but that meeting would be one of the most memorable matches of all time. Since their prior meeting during World Cup 36 Qualifying, The Holy Empire had advanced to Six World Cup Finals winning two of them. The Jungle Cats had been working hard to climb out of the darkness and back into relevance on the World Stage while The Holy Empire had their sights set on the record books as they inched closer to joining Valanora and Starblaydia in the conversation as one of the World Cups all time great teams. While it had become the norm for the Holy Empire, it was a motivating accomplishment for the Vilitan National Team to advance to the World Cup 62 Semi-Final, the first Semi-Final round appearance for the Vilitan National Team in over 25 cycles. For The Holy Empire, they entered the match looking to dispatch of their lower ranked opponents to set up their date with immortality with a perfect World Cup cycle on the line, the Holy Empire having yet to lose a match in Qualification or the World Cup Finals. For Vilita, it was a chance for validation that they had returned to the top of their game, that they were truly competitors for the World Cup Title and had earned a chance to fight for a spot in the World Cup 62 title game.

It was the first time that Vilita and The Holy Empire would meet in the World Cup Semi-Finals, occurring exactly 20 cycles prior to the current iteration of Vilita and The Holy Empire doing battle at the same stage of competition in Apox & Valanora World Cup 82.

Heading into World Cup 62, The Holy Empire had become 6-time World Cup Finalists and were looking to re-claim the World title that they had famously taken during World Cup 60 ending the record streak of titles by Aguazul. The Holy Empire completed their World Cup 62 qualification campaign with a perfect record, and likewise did the same in the World Cup 62 Group Stage. They continued, unblemished, until meeting Vilita in the Semi-Finals. As famously reported by the Vilita National, Hundreds of thousands of Vilitan fans were in San Donato, Carpathia and Ruthenia lining the streets in the build up to the match and urging their team on in hopes of advancing to the most prestigious match in the multiverse. In reality, there hadn't been a more important match featuring the Jungle Cats since the World Cup 20 final - at the time, Vilita's only World Cup triumph. The Jungle Cats were a nation on the rise, but there was none higher than The Holy Empire, the multiverse's #1 ranked side who had thus far steamrolled every opposition they had raced in the World Cup 62 campaign.

There was no goal scoring in the early goings, but there was a scare for the Jungle Cats and head coach Calaesa Mitaroka to deal with in the 30th minute when star winger Jomur Hulyer had to leave the action, replaced by Erocka Lorei. The early substitution could have flustered the upstart Vilitans but they stayed in the game; even as The Holy Empire took the lead. The Jungle Cats twice clawed back, goals from Manolis Kontalroma and Lita Adjei keeping Vilita level with the Holy Empire as they looked to advance to the World Cup Final for the first time since World Cup 20. When the whistle blew after 90 minutes, the Vilita Jungle Cats had accomplished something that no team before them had done, and none after them would do during the World Cup 62 cycle. Not Lose when playing against The Holy Empire. While they would eventually concede an Extra Time goal resulting in their elimination from World Cup 62, the Jungle Cats and Vilitan fans still take pride in noting the small asterisk at the end of The Holy Empire's "Perfect" World Cup 62 cycle - noting it as "The Vilitan Asterisk".

The Holy Empire may have gotten the best of the Vilita Jungle Cats during their only previous meeting at the World Cup Semi-Final stage, The Jungle Cats were the only team to give one of the most dominant teams in World Cup history a run for their money chasing the Dreamed Realm side to extra time before finally being overcome by their fire power. Now, in the World Cup 82 Semi Finals, it is the Vilita Jungle Cats and not the Holy Empire who are going into the Semi-Final matchup as the favorite with Vilita entering World Cup 82 ranked #1 in the multiverse. If the history between the two sides is any indicator, it will be an exciting high scoring affair. In nine previous meetings between the two sides, neither team has ever been held off the scoresheet with not a single shutout achieved by any of their goalkeepers against each other. The most common scoreline between the two sides is 3-2 with an average of five goals per game between the two sides. The most goals ever scored by a single team during the history of the match up is the four goals that The Holy Empire scored against Vilita during their second meeting of the World Cup 36 Qualification campaign which The Holy Empire would handily triumph over Vilita in both matches en route to the Finals.

While The Holy Empire leads the all-time series between the sides and holds the only directly comparable result, an extra time victory over Vilita during the World Cup 62 Semi-Finals, the Jungle Cats still have some positives to take from history as they have won two of their last four matches against The Holy Empire and will now have a chance to tie the all-time series between the two sides with a victory in Apox. Two of the most accomplished nations in the history of the World Cup will re-kindle an old rivalry once more with the chance to compete for the ultimate prize is on the line in Apox, a ticket to the World Cup Final in Valanora.

WC82F - SF v. Farfadillis (6-3)

Postby Turori » Wed Apr 17, 2019 12:11 pm

Earth Shattering Eels in high scoring Semi-Final victory

Artani, Mar Sara, Valanora :: For the second time in as many World Cup Cycles, and, for the second time in the history of their entire existence, the Turori National Team had broken through the generations-long Quarter Final curse that had defined their entire sporting culture and advanced to the World Cup Semi-Finals. For the second time in their history their semi-final opponent would be a highly ranked regional rival from Atlantian Oceania.

The Venue would be Artani in Mara Sara, Valanora and it would be the second match hosted by the venue during the World Cup Finals with the first being another high-profile all Atlantian Oceania regional clash with Starblaydia and Audioslavia opening up the tournament in a difficult Group E in the 'other' match up in the group with the host country Valanora. The Turori v. Farfadillis fixture was the complete antithesis to the Apox Region Semi Final. In Apox two nations with a combined 13 World Cup Finals appearances and 8 titles. In Valanora, Turori and Farfadillis. Zero World Cup Titles. Zero World Cup Finals appearances. Somebody was going to make history for their nation.

With one of the multiverses most offensive teams in Farfadillis against one of its top stalwart defenses in Turori, it was expected to be an epic chess match with two opposing forces in a tug of war. Instead, what the fans on hand in Mar Sara got to witness was a good ole' fashioned Western Atlantian Oceania shootout.

It all started just five minutes into the match when Jungle Strike FC defender Ezequiel Marchiondo just clipped the heel of Wiztsana Iretziia as the Pasarga based attacker attempted to find space inside the penalty area. After initially hesitating, the referee reluctantly pointed to the spot with the eyes of the multiverse watching. It may not have been a textbook foul and an open shut call but it was at least 90% of the way there. The hesitation likely stemmed from the decision tree regarding whether or not it was worse to decide the fate of these two teams but calling a penalty - or by not calling it. In the end, despite the hopeful pleas from the all-Vilitan league management team on the Farfavillous sideline, the referee did what they felt was right. Daliora Toru'u took the spot kick for Turori and they were off to the ideal start. Any thoughts of the Eels hunkering down and protecting their 1-0 lead for 85 minutes to secure a spot in the World Cup Final were ended just 10 minutes into the match when Farfadillis responded through Xíxì Êns to level the scores.

With both teams having found the back of the net, the pace of the match changed. There was no fear of causing the mistake that changed the match. The mistakes were already made. The match had already changed. Now two old fashioned teams tightened their laces, stood the appropriate number of yards apart in the center circle and when the referee blew the whistle to resume the match it was akin to an old western 'Draw!'. Turori reacted first pressuring consistently from the restart and finding a way through thanks to Jungle Strike FC attacker Melti'ita Mungwaii - the very player who stepped into the role vacated by Friekder Dandaellion finished the effort after being fed through by the opening goalscorer Toru'u.

Turori were back in front but it wouldn't last long, and this time the on pitch battle shifted from a back and forth old western Atlantian Oceania shootout to a boxing match as after letting Turori get in their potshots, Farfadillis responded with a pair of undercuts to the chin. Marine Coast United midfielder Sürgân t'Öéséné delivered the first blow levelling the score at 2-2. Thankfully, the twii.tur servers had been upgraded since the World Cup 80 'incident' and the overly special nature of the characters in t'Öéséné's name didn't outwardly impact the quality of service twii.tur users received. While special characters weren't an issue the general usage overload on the servers was certainly strained when young attacking midfielder Faragó rue Cazade gave the Farvish their first lead of the day in the 22nd minute lucking into the path of a deflected ball after Xíxì Êns was dispossessed at the top of the box by Lulu Pumaziiri.

Farfadillis would hold the lead for a solid five minutes before Turori were finally able to get their own equalizer through a clean shot just outside the box from Mbidai Akarenaa that perhaps the Dí Maozöxê goalkeeper Íüé Tgô might have done a little better with. The Farfadellic team certainly had their attacking game in order but they had given up 3 goals in just under 30 minutes to a Turori team that were averaging barely over a goal per game over the course of the finals and all that thanks to the four goals they put past an already eliminated Darmen on the final day of Group Play. Knowing they had to get a grip on the defensive aspect of their game Tuzzio and Dandalleion called over the bench and instructed Jungle Strike FC veteran net minder Lafayette Tifoxé to start warming up. They couldn't leave anything on the table, a spot in the World Cup Final was at stake. The duo had plenty of time to make their decision as the games opening goalscorer Daliora Toru'u was tended to on the pitch, having been twisted up in the build up to the Akarenaa goal. In the end it would mark the end of the day for Toru'u who was replaced by Nua'oma Aikiki.

While Turori were scoring at a highly above normal pace they were also conceding at a similarly or perhaps even more alarmingly unnatural pace. Their goalkeeper on the day, Timaala Hualtia of Inland Peaks FC, was making their World Cup Finals debut. Not exactly an ideal time for a Goalkeeper change but the Turorians were in need as starting goalkeeper Wiyauw An'maude had foolishly accrued two yellow cards including the one received in the Quarter Final against Cassadaigua while backup goalkeeper G.Q Disterfred II who had started the matches against Darmen and Pasarga had come down with some sort of biological impairment that resulted in headaches and other common ailments. The break due to the Toru'u injury allowed Hualtia to receive some reassurance from the defenders with words from Geafi Laina-Sola in particular seeming to comfort the teenager in just fourth career National Team appearance.

Image
Over the next half-hour of play the pace that the two teams had set over the first 30 minutes proved unsustainable and perhaps both also began to recall some of their defensive tactics once more. Turori made just one change at half time with their second goalscorer Meldi'ita Mungwaii being replaced by their top goalscorer in the campaign thus far, Mirana Gotuai. The changes really didn't seem to have the right impact however and the match had shifted from a no-holds barred shootout to the match many might have expected to see in the Semi-Finals of the World Cup, a nervous affair with everyone on the pitch well aware of the fact that if they made just one mistake they could become the scapegoat for costing their nation a shot at the World Cup title.

When the breakaway moment finally occurred no one could really put a finger to suggest someone was at fault other than the skillful Wiztsana Iretziia who must have picked up a few new tricks while playing for the famed Galatica in Pasarga as a moment of individual brilliance in the 72nd minute broke the deadlock and shifted the match in Turori's favor once and for all. The goal for the Eels forced a new sense of urgency in their opponents who pressed forward without as much care at protecting their back line much as they had approached the start of the match. Also like the opening thirty minutes of the game, The Farfizzio's attacking focus opened the door for the normally defensive Turorian side to spring some extra attacks of their own and the former Sunrisian Saito Koshiki took advantage in the 80th minute followed closely behind by Turori's top goalscorer of World Cup 83 the former Mist City Floatzels and Sardin United attacker Mirana Gotuai who now plays for Iskara Daii in Starlbaydia.

Unlike the opening half hour of play, however, the green and red neon lights had gone out for a Farfajealous side who this time had no response for the Eels. As the final whistle fell, a black shadow cast over all the Farfadillis players and their previously brightly colored uniforms. The Turori National Team had done what so many generations had assumed could and would never be done. Eelskin Brown and Nigel Green scarves twirled in celebration in the grandstand as the Turori National Team completed their 6-3 victory over Farfadillis to secure their spot in the World Cup 82 Final.

As the first of two Semi-Final round matches to be played, the Turori National Team stayed in Mar Sara until the conclusion of the second Semi-Final as they awaited to see who their opponent for the World Cup Final would be. Of course, the emotional half of the Turorian National Team wanted revenge. It was the Vilita Jungle Cats - Turori's neighbor and some-times partner in crime who had slit the Turorian World Cup dreams in two in Banija and the Free Republics and in a major way, crushing Turori 5-1 in the World Cup 81 Semi-Final en route to their fourth World Cup Trophy. However, the analytic half of the Turorian National Team knew that it might not be a good match up for them. During the World Cup 81 cycle alone Turori suffered a pair of 1-5 defeats to Vilita - the Citizen Squad during the World Cup 81 Semi-Final and the Cocoabo Squad during the sixth Cup of Champions tournament. Of course, while it was Vilita who eliminated Turori from the World Cup 81 Finals; it was the Holy Empire who eliminated Turori just one cup prior during World Cup 80. The thing about that match however was that Turori only conceded four goals to The Holy Empire, not five like they did to Vilita so, clearly, that would be the better match up for them in the finals on paper. Perhaps most decisively though, while Turori had never played Vilita in a championship final, they had played The Holy Empire in the 67th Cup of Harmony final during the World Cup 74 Cycle and it was the Eels who came away victorious a feat they were hoping to duplicate should they get the chance to meet up with them in the World Cup Final.

As the Turori National Team prepared their trip to Raynor City their fans prepared for the occasion by snapping up late sale tickets for the Final at the Battleground and poured on to twii.tur to react to the stunning Semi-Final triumph and prepare for their teams first ever appearance in the World Cup Final.

Naturally after the conclusion of the second World Cup Semi-Final, twii.tur quickly destabilized as a battleground of anonymous words between fans of two bitter rival. But there were still some mixed in threads that focused on some of the positives, such as the luck of the 22 year old Turorian Astrology Major and Botany hobbyist Orani'arua Nikaa'o who, with Vilita's Semi-Final victory over The Holy Empire, was confirmed as a Grand Prize winner of the Vilaye Energy Drink Cans for Life Contest.

twii.tur users quickly located Nikaa'o's twii.tur handle and while the initial messages were congratulatory there were the expected followers who began wondering what they could do to have Nikaa'o siphon off some of their winnings to them in the form of extra Vilaye Energy Drink product.

One trending thread was perhaps not such a great thing for Turorian brand Cocoa-bo as the somewhat unwieldy hash #notbetterwithcocoabo was trending amongst Turorians taking a play on the Turorian brands iconic marketing line and taking a dig at Turori's National Cocoabo Squad who were originally billed as the answer to generations of Turorian struggles at the World Cup only to crash out at the Quarter Final stage just like every citizen team before them. Now, however, a team mostly comprised of Citizen players has led Turori to its first World Cup Final and the fans believe that proves that the Turori National Team is NOT better with Cocoabo, often including a standard image of the flag of Turori again as an ode to the traditional Cocoa-bo marketing tactic of altering a nations flag with their logo, the silhouette of a Cocoabo, and how Turori was better without it.

Of course there is always the saying that any press is good press and despite the trends on twii.tur Cocoa-bo will be hosting a World Cup Final viewing party at the Iobabao Legendary Field in Mliona as well as supporting the official Football Association of Turori Watch Party at Eels Park in Eelandii with the Cocoa-bo fanzones allowing fans to pick up some of Cocoa-bo's most popular delectables while also taking a chance at the Cocoa-bo prize wheel to collect a number of items such as Cocoa-bo Sunglasses, Spinners, Sunglasses, lanyards with ticket holders attached to them and other assorted prizes including a real treat for the rare finds collectors incuding merchandise that never hit the streets including Some World Cup 82 themed items that were likely printed up when it appeared that the Cocoabo and not the Citizen Squad were on their way to representing the Turori National Team in post World Cup 82 Qualification action. In the end, however, the prize wheel will just serve as a distraction holding the fans over until the main event where the Turori National Team will spin the wheel at The Battleground for the one true Prize on the day, the World Cup 82 Trophy.

Aquafek, Canopii star as Vilita return to World Cup Final

Image
Stadium of Apox, Dwile, Apox :: It had been 20 World Cup Cycles since Vilita and the Holy Empire last met in the World Cup Semi-Finals. The epic battle now known as the "Holy Asterisk Game" between the two sides in World Cup 62, with The Holy Empire looking to preserve their perfect World Cup campaign that had stretched back through the opening round of qualification; and the Vilita Jungle Cats looking to battle back into relevance some 42 cycles on since their last World Cup title. While The Holy Empire would ultimately win the match, win the World Cup and, depending on who you ask, maintain their 'perfect' record, the Vilitan National Team could mark that match as a turning point.

Sure they were denied a chance at the World Cup Title in extra time. But they were back amongst the elite in the multiverse. They had accomplished something, against the best team in the multiverse, that no one else could do. Not lose over 90 minutes.

Including that match the Vilita National Teams record against the Holy Empire was an unimpressive 1 Win, 4 Losses. The only win came during the Cup of Harmony for World Cup 30 in just the second ever meeting between the sides. Since losing the World Cup 62 Semi-Final, however, the Vilitan National Team had not lost to The Holy Empire. A draw in World Cup 67 just one cycle prior to the Jungle Cats long awaited return to the World Cup Final in Legalese and the Free Republics; then a triumph in the World Cup 72 3rd Place Playoff - to this date the only time the Vilitan National Team finished 3rd in the World Cup. Then Most importantly, the World Cup 74 Playoff. It was a cruel way to weed out World Cup Finals contestants, putting two of the top teams in the multiverse together in a two legged playoff - but this time, Vilita survived. their uninterrupted streak of World Cup Finals appearances from World Cup 59 remained in tact. Their program didn't get blown apart from within as it might have if their neighborly rivals the Turori National Team had qualified for the World Cup when the Vilitan National Team did not - something that had not happened in the modern era.

On that day, by standing up to The big-bad Holy Empire; The Vilita Jungle Cats graduated from being a good team to being a contender. Now the tides had shifted. Heading into the World Cup 82 Semi-Final, it was the the Vilitans who were on top of the multiverse. While they most certainly weren't looking to protect a perfect cycle as The Holy Empire were in World Cup 62 - the Vilitans barely even qualified for the World Cup they dropped so many points in the qualifiers - but they were looking to defend their piece of history. While 43 nations had won the World Cup in its 81 previous editions, Just 11 of them had won it twice in a row. Just 7 nations had won the World Cup 4 times. Both Vilita and the Holy Empire were part of that group. Now, the two nations would kick off the match to decide who would move on to the World Cup 82 Final for a chance to join the company of Valanora and Starblaydia as the only Five-Time World Cup Champion nations.

The Crowd in Apox was split largely into thirds with about a third of the fans in attendance supporting the Vilitan National Team, one third locals or neutral supporters and the remainder an oddly mix of Gold and Red, Monks, Historical Figures in multi-dimensional form, aspiring poets, soft cuddly bunnies and then a section of the crowd that was not visible from the pitch as it was strangely covered in a giant fog.

Unlike the Valanora region Semi-Final which had gotten off to a flurry of a start, the match in Dwile was proceeding like any good late-competition match should have been expected to. Everyone was being cautious and no one wanted to make a mistake as it could be one they regret for the rest of their careers.

During some of the drier periods of the first half, the supporters of the Dreamed Realm side attempting to get some chants going. In fact, it appeared that the chants were actually being written by the players on the Holy Empire's substitutes bench then passed up into the stands where the crowds tried to find a way to put the words into song but struggled mightily. At times even the players on the pitch had a look up at the crowd to try to figure out if they had heard right, whether or not the fans were calling the players fat... or not fat at all?

Image
To the relief of the other two-thirds of the stadiums, the chanting came to a halt in the 42nd minute after Cavuna Aquafek scored the opener for the Jungle Cats, receiving the drop pass from Nii'arala Milaaso and then laying into the shot which Xxxrcksrckg was unable to stop due to a lack of agility and the distracted fog of the crowd having affected the amount of light that was making it through to the Holy Empire penalty area.

During the break the entire Fluffy Bunny contingent in the crowd rushed to the Cocoa-bo stand and the line could actually be seen overflowing back out into the stands. The queue was still on when the match resumed and some Bunnies, perhaps wishing they had gotten in line before the half time began, were actually able to watch the match from their spot in the queue in the stairwells between the seats at the Stadium of Apox. The line had finally gone down by the time Enzoril Alabonni doubled the Vilitan advantage in the 64th minute bringing with it a barrage of Cocoa-bo cups tossed in the direction of the Vilitan players causing a temporary stoppage to the match as the trash was cleaned up and the offending bunny population escorted to a position in the concourse area away from the pitch level. When play resumed, Vilita introduced their top scorer Sipke Tarala into the match. While no reason was given by the Vilitan coaching staff prior to the match, Tarala who had scored in all but one of the Jungle Cats games in the World Cup Finals thus far, was not in the starting lineup for the first time since the World Cup Qualifiers. Tarala would help with fresh legs to close the match out, repeatedly playing keep away against The Holy Empire defenders limiting the ability for the Poets to maintain enough possession to piece together a quality attack. After seven minutes of added time due to the earlier clean up, the Jungle Cats had survived. For the first time ever, they had shut out the Holy Empire. Now, they were on their way to the World Cup 82 Final in Valanora.

While names like Vilkaous, Banda, Massa, Kecker, Kilpter and Kater still resonate throughout the Vilitan Cove, this current generation of Vilitan stars appear primed to etch their own names into the stone surrounding the Tivali Ring Stadium as leading goalscorer Sipke Tarala, midfield duo Cavuna Aquafek and Polaox Torerun, defensive stars Linkat Cjinder and Jirak Trikala & Goalkeeper Mako Canopii have led the Jungle Cats to back-to-back World Cup Finals for the first time in their history and should they be victorious at the Battleground in Raynor City will have propelled Vilita out from an ever growing list of World Cup Champion nations up into the very exclusive stratosphere that is the Winning-est Nations in the history of the World Cup.

Vilaye Energy Drink Headquarters, Vilisorma, Vilita :: The Vilisorma Beverage Company is running a multiverse-wide contest called "Cans for Life" throughout the duration of the World Cup 82 Finals. Fans were selected as finalists at random from amongst those who signed up directly at a Vilaye Energy Drink tasting booth at an official World Cup Finals venue or fan-zone as well as those who purchased specially marked commemorative packages of Vilaye Energy Drink in their local grocery markets and submitted their application prior to the conclusion of the World Cup 82 Group Stage. While the contest fine print originally indicated that there would be 16 Finalists, only 15 finalists were ultimately chosen. The Vilisorma Beverage Company announced that with each contestant being paired with a specific team at the World Cup 82 Finals in the tournaments 16 team knockout round, a contest with fifteen finalists would leave one team un-paired. The un-paired team would be the Vilitan National Team who would double as a Super-Grand-Prize winner for all finalists if they were the team that outlasted the other 16 in the World Cup 82 Finals

With the World Cup 82 Field cut from four teams down to two with the completion of the Semi-Finals, Vilisorma Beverage Company officials had long been planning to bring the two finalists and one guest per finalist to the World Cup Final at The Battleground in Raynor City, Valanora. Depending on the result of the World Cup Final, they would have top company officials pose with a giant can of Vilaye with the World Cup trophy ceremony in the background and a great photo op for both the winner and the Vilaye Energy Brand to be used in attracting customers to buy their product into the future.

The only problem - which wasn't anything that Vilisorma Beverage Company officials were complaining about as they were almost exclusively native Vilitans and fans of the Vilitan National Team, was that the Vilita Jungle Cats won their World Cup Semi-Final match against The Holy Empire. That meant that instead of the pomp and circumstance of crowning their winner at the World Cup Final in Raynor City, the contest winner - at least one of them, had already been revealed and it was the masses on twii.tur that were attracting all the attention and driving the narrative surrounding 22 year old Orani'arua Nikaa'o. It was not the way that the Vilisorma Beverage Company had foreseen their contest winner being crowned.

Company officials rushed over to Turori and found Nikaa'o studying in a field near the edge of the Inura Forest where the Astrology Major had set up an isolated outpost for watching the stars by night and experimenting with plants during the day. Nikaa'o had attended one match of the World Cup Finals group stage in Valanora but arrived prior to the World Cup's opener to study some of the local fauna. Then, Nikaa'o returned home to Turori to write up what they had found and focus back on their Astrology studies - that is until Vilaye came calling. When company officials finally got in touch with the 22 year old, Nikaa'o expressed great pleasure in not only finding out they had won the Cans for Life Contest but also in the fact that the Turori National Team had made the final of the World Cup.

* Assured Grand Prize Winner *

While they may have had their chance at capturing the moment Nikaa'o won the Cans for Life prize live and getting the winners first reactions taken away from them by twii.tur; Vilisorma Beverage Company is still bringing Nikaa'o with them to the World Cup Final along with fourteen other finalists of the Cans for Life contest. It may be a somewhat awkward setting for Nikaa'o as not only will they have already won the contest that fourteen others they will be watching the game with are trying to win, but having already won the contest, Nikaa'o has absolutely no reason to cheer for the Vilita Jungle Cats - the team that most of the Vilaye Energy Drink representatives at the game will want to see win and the team which has to win in order for the other fourteen finalists to claim their grand prize as well. So while Nikaa'o will be in attendance it is possible that the Turorian Cans for Life winner is separated from the group and won't be seen mingling with the hopeful finalists like Cosumarite Super Fan Tobias Kürsch who will likely be one of the few in attendance wearing blue and silver, or Drawkian leader Iarocav who is rumored to have partnered with the Vilisorma Beverage Company to help ensure all of the finalists and their one guest were able to get into the big match. In order to accommodate the extra 26 guests the Vilisorma Beverage Company reportedly worked out a deal with Iarocav, who as the immortal ruler of Drawkionel already had premium seats to the event, to between them share a boxed suite and two full rows of general seating in proximity to the suite to accommodate all the Vilaye Contest Finalists, Vilisorma Beverage Company officials and Friends & Family of the Immortal Ruler Iarocav.

While the Vilisorma Beverage Company had already confirmed the attendance of their guaranteed winner Nikaa'o, the three Vilitans Vbuaana, Maraszota and Makadapao, international leaders Iarocav of Drawkland and Ragnar Smithson of Bongo Johnson and a number of their international Finalists including Pier van den Bergen of Salstead, George Istanba of Banija, Rosemary Muyskens of Omerica and Ricketts Marauder of Krytenia they were still working last minute logistics to get the remaining contestants to Raynor City. If any of the contestants would be unable to make it and the Vilitan National Team were to win the World Cup, Vilaye Energy Drink would likely have to hold a small recognition ceremony for the absent winner. While Vilisorma Beverage Company officials were making accommodations for them they expected at least one absence with Isaac, Prince Imperial of the Holy Empire and existent of the Dreamed Realm having lost their chance at the World Cup 82 Finals at the hands of the Vilita National Team in the Semi Final round, it seemed unlikely they would rush back to Raynor City just to cheer Vilita on in a competition that they have actually played in in the past all for the chance to win some Energy Drinks and swag. But they were ready, Just in Case they showed up and the Vilita Jungle Cats won it all.
