We are grateful for the generous support of the Baker Park Tourism & Visitors Board, the Commonwealth Exhibition & Convention Bureau and for major sponsorship from Bank of Baker Park Corporation, The Times of Belle Haven Group and our from our Presenting Sponsor, High Plains Beverage Company, makers of O'Meara's Red Ale, and O'Meara's Extra Stout.

The format of the tournament will consist of 4 groups drawn at random, each assigned to play their matches at three venues selected for proximity to one another, to maximize ease of travel for both competitors and supporters alike.

Following a round-robin group stage, the top 2 finishers in each group will advance to play in a single elimination playoff, the 4 nations losing in the quarterfinals will be matched against one another for a final match; the other 8 teams will be grouped together for the consolation bracket, which will consist of a first day of matches with the winners meeting one another on the second day, as well as the losers also guaranteed a fifth match.

This format is to ensure that all participants are guaranteed the same number of matches (5) in which to give all their players opportunities to appear against an array of different nations.
Unlike the previous tournament, the consolation rounds will not be considered "places".
The four semifinalists will be the only teams that will have one more match (Championship/Third PPO) than the others.

All entrants may begin submitting rosters/RP.

Include this in your roster post, please (I'm always the person who forgets, so that's why I remind you)
Style Modifier--a number between +5 and -5, with 0 being a neutral style of play and the extremes representing more offensive or defensive style, respectively
Formation--the general way your team will lineup. If you say you are a flat back 4-4-2, and for a particular match you make an adjustment to a different alignment, that's excellent for RP. But throw your opponent a bone and at least put something.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following...
Choose My Scorers: Yes/No (Note: Unless you can throw together an RP quickly after scores are posted every MD, don't say no to this)
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes/No
RP Injuries to My Players: Yes/No
Godmod Injuries to My Players: Yes/No
RP Penalties for My Players: Yes/No
RP Ejections for My Players: Yes/No
Godmod Other Events: Yes/No

OVERVIEW of BAKER PARK

For over 125 years, the Commonwealth of Baker Park has welcomed peoples of all nations, all ethnic groups, all religions, all colors. Our citizens take pride in their heritage--both where their parents or grandparents came from and in this place they call home—and in those people who took a leap of faith to start a life in a new land, who built a nation which embraces diversity, community and equality. Today, we have 51 million residents who can claim their origins from all over the multiverse

We welcome all visitors from across the multiverse to this second edition of the Baker Park Open Cup tournament. For many, this is the first visit you'll have made to the Commonwealth & we hope to provide a guide to the country and its people, in order for you to enjoy your stay in our nation. We are one of the top tourist destinations in Atlantian Oceana, welcoming over 1.9 million visitors every year.

What to Expect when You Arrive: People in Baker Park seem a bit formal or deferential to strangers when you first meet them; this is something of an ingrained relic of the values and lessons of our ancestors, as 'propriety' is a word that every child & teen has drilled into their head from an early age. Many of our citizens are only a couple of generations removed from the behavioral and social norms of our Victorian era European fore-bearers. Generally, once the introductions or the initial pleasantries are passed, people are for the most part extremely friendly and will treat you like a long-lost friend; invariably they will probably ask something about your nation and what it's like living there.

Belle Haven is the national capital of the Commonwealth; with a metro area population of over 5.6 million, it is also the largest city, the financial, entertainment, and cultural center of the country, and more than likely your first stop on your trip to Baker Park. Belle Haven International Airport (BHX) serves 41 foreign & domestic carriers and accommodates over 900 takeoffs and departures per day. The airport is approximately 18 miles south of the city center, and there are numerous ground transportation options for arriving visitors at Belle Haven International; Metro Transit Buses, commuter rail, taxis, for hire limos, private coaches, rental cars and both private hub-to-hub & hotel shuttles are available to carry the traveler to any part of the city (or further) as needed.

There are also large airports that serve the other areas of the Commonwealth where matches will be played. Oceana, Ezriquay, Endborough, and Shirley have International standard airports, and capable of handling inbound flights from anywhere in the multiverse.

Currently, the Under-Secretary of State for Immigration & Borders has no nations listed as requiring pre-travel visas for travelers to the Commonwealth for less than 14 days visits

Within the Greater City of Belle Haven area, public transportation is widely available across several platforms; CARTA (Capital Area Rapid Transit Authority) provides for public buses, a modern light-rail network, a clean & efficient subway system and connections to commuter and interstate rail lines.

Transit fares are equalized across all types of accommodation; 1 day, 3 day and 7 day passes each offer discounts off the regular single ride price, and the system is fully integrated; one price allows you to access to any CARTA mode of transport along with transfers. The Commonwealth subsidizes companies that encourage their employees to utilize public transport, allowing them to offset their Environmental Impact Tax payments.

As a monument to the extensive public works initiatives made through the last 60 years, Baker Park's limited access expressway grid connects all areas of the Commonwealth with the capital; our citizens take great pride in the quality of our highways and their upkeep; we believe our intercity road traffic network rates among the very best in the multiverse.

And what about money?: Baker Park's currency is the CBP dollar; the country is a member of the Atlantian Oceana economic bloc, so generally $1 NS is equivalent to about CBP$ 1.35. The monetary system is decimalized and denominations are 2, 5, 10 and 50 cent coins, 1 and 2 dollar coins, and 5, 10, 25, 100 and 500 dollar notes.

As a result of the 1998 elimination of the 1 cent coin, the general practice throughout the county is to round up or down any prices that would result in purchases or change returned ending in 1 or 3 cents; for example, a merchant may keep the extra 1 cent if your change due is 3.31, or may return 2.54 if the amount due is 2.53 (merchants and vendors have through the years generally adapted pricing so this is a rare occurrence).

Baker Park has a national Goods & Services Tax (GST) on a wide array of products and services; it is a tiered structure based upon the retail cost, meaning you will pay a lower tax on cheaper items, and a higher tax on those that are more expensive. Visitors can apply for a refund of the Federal government share of GST (generally about 75% of the collected tax) by filling out a form with proof of purchase via sales receipts; ask at customs upon your departure for Form 85.
In many cases, GST is incorporated into the price; for example an item that has a retail price of $1.80 is probably GST inclusive ($1.75 with a .05 tax) so this would not be refundable; almost everything under $5 that could be considered "convenience store items" (soft drinks, snacks, etc.) is usually GST inclusive.

Cash gratuities for service are not expected, but are not uncommon. Generally, workers in hospitality and tourism are more accustomed to receiving small tips, but the level of service you receive is not affected if you choose not to do so. Workers at all levels of employment are paid under a scheme known as CLAWS (Classified Labor and Wage Scale) which ensures that citizens are compensated fairly and reasonably equal to their peers based on years of work and experience.

What to do when not at the game: Visitors to Belle Haven have a wide variety of activities to choose from; free tours of Baker Park's national capitol building, Parliament House, are available 7 days a week when Parliament is in session and 5 days a week during recesses; call ahead to find out the hours as well as restricted times & dates. Other major government building open for public tours include Treasury House and St John's Palace, the residence of the Head of State of the Commonwealth.

The Commonwealth State Museum is the country's most visited museum site; here you can learn about the history of Baker Park and see exhibits that tell the story of the development from commercial colony to sovereign nation. The National Gallery of Art showcases a variety of domestic and classic styles of artistic works.

In downtown Belle Haven, there are many points of interest for the visitor; Historic Charter House was the country's first legislative building, Belle Haven City Hall is a beautiful architectural landmark and the Baker Park Museum of Modern Art & Design highlights the influences that have transformed the country's tastes over its history. Also of interest are the Church of the Trinity, Company House and Landing on the riverfront, the Commonwealth Stock Exchange and the Belle Haven Arena and the adjacent Casino Square.

Further afield, the other cities hosting matches all have a myriad of options for the visitor;
a trip between cities via our extensive river ferry system might make for a change of routine, or maybe a day trip via the train to our northern areas of the country, where the natural beauty of our own largely undeveloped "frontier" is strenuously preserved.
The Lake District in northeast Endover is a popular summer getaway for families (approx. 1 hr 40 min from Endborough by rail), and in the other corner is The Old North, formerly a large holding of the Northern States Company that was heavily cleared of its forests for use in building the railways, but has been reclaimed by conservation and is becoming a popular resort area as an alternative to the Lakes (approx. 2hr 10 min from Oceana by rail).

Alternatively, the southern part of the country has its' own attractions; although not a substitute for warm water beaches, the villages and getaways along the coast in both directions from Newport are popular with boaters, fishermen and vacationers.
The higher elevations in the southeastern corner of the Commonwealth have become the center of the nascent winter resort industry in areas formerly used for deep mining of coal, iron ore and bauxite, as well as gas and oil drilling.

Anything else?: You'll probably notice that we have a bit of Victoriana fetish here in Baker Park. You can't miss it even if you're only halfway paying attention. We have parks, buildings, bars, restaurants, streets and anything else you can think of named for Victoria, or some kind of reference to the legacy she left.

For many years, long after Baker Park had established its own coinage and paper currency, pound notes and coins were still accepted as payment on an unofficial basis in many parts of the country—and often hoarded by some people as collector's items. Even in modern times, half-dollar and 2 dollar coins in the Commonwealth have Victoria's image stamped upon them; the young woman of the 1840's graces the former, the familiar image of the aging widow on the latter ("One Vic" is 2 dollars in slang here, while a "Vicky" is 50 cents, FYI)

The continued presence of Victoria's image and the societal norms from her era that persisted in Baker Park well into the 1960's became a source of bemusement and scorn to the generations that came of age during that time; it was seen as anachronistic and out of touch by younger generations.
The term "Victoria Cult" became a codeword for old fashioned values and outdated thinking. The sharp generational divide between those of the post-war Baby Boom and their parents (& grandparents) shaped much of the social and political changes the country went through in the 1970's and 80's. Any objection or resistance to modernizing the country by the older generation was branded "VC nonsense" by those who wanted a less rigid social order.

Yet a funny thing happened on the way to bringing Baker Park kicking and screaming into the 20th century. As the nation prepared for its centennial celebrations in 1992, people began to rethink the effect of VC on the history of the Commonwealth; suddenly it became an endearing, retro lifestyle trend, to be taken with good humored spirit and embraced for what it was—a tangible foundation myth and sense of identity & national pride. The same generation who made the term a derogatory condemnation now began to see it as a source of patriotic idealism and a unifying theme for all people (and of course as a way to promote tourism and make that which was previously considered embarrassing and unattractive into a money spinning industry).

You guys seem pretty easy going: The social fabric of the early nation was woven by strong religious identification. It was sectarian lines that often created class distinction rather than national origins or relative economic status, despite the fact that the Baker Company and the Council enforced rigid non-discriminatory policies across all areas of life. You couldn't legislate people's attitudes or prejudices but you could make an official regime that made oppressive discrimination unsustainable, which is what the power of the colonial administration pursued and that the later government expanded and mandated. In short, we pretty much look to get along with one another, to have tolerance and respect for opinions and beliefs of our neighbors.

So who were these Baker's anyway?: Ah, you asked at just the right time. They were entrepreneurs (or just crummy businessmen) who got lucky to find some space to make a colony to recoup some of the money they owed to other investors in some of their failed business ventures. They must've been persuasive, because some of those same people put in even more of their own money to help get this idea off the ground. George Baker was the patriarch, and he had 3 sons—William, Simon and John. Willy was generally the brains behind the outfit; he was also the country's first prime minister when he was 66. Simon's oldest son, George II succeeded his uncle and later John's son, Simon II (yes you need a scorecard, or they needed to expand their circles) followed his cousin as PM. However, they must've done something right, as their business plan worked like magic in this instance.

And that means what?: The company they founded, which is now Baker International Corporation, has been the major engine of growth of the country for almost the entire history of the nation—they owned the main public utilities, they owned the major manufacturing and financial companies, and provided raw materials to the companies that they allowed to come and "compete" with them on their own turf.

But they were, generally speaking, benign robber-barons as they didn't undercut competition, didn't use the power of the state to curtail the business of these other entities (who were owned, as you might guess by some of the creditors they owed from the start) and didn't put profit ahead of the growth of the economy as a whole and the citizens. Over the last 30 or so years, they have gotten out of a lot of the businesses they once owned—usually by spinning them off as publicly traded companies. Most citizens call them "The Company", The International" or just BI. Much of the history of the government and the Company has been intertwined, but usually to the benefit of society.

OK, so what will get me in trouble and what should I know?
Here we go: The legal age for consumption or purchase of alcohol is 18, and the sale and use of cannabis is allowed for persons over that age as well, although no importation into the country is permitted—your stash will simply be confiscated and you'll be moved on. As for other non-prescription drugs, we're not as nice. Possession of Cocaine, Heroin, Methamphetamines, and other 'E' Class drugs (the usual ones that everybody calls "controlled substances") will probably get you—A) deported, if you're lucky; B) incarcerated for up to a year, depending on how much we're talking about; or C) for an amount considered to be likely "an attempt to distribute", about 27 years with no chance for parole, even if your government are really nice and buy $210 million worth of goods from us. We believe that drug addiction is an illness, but we don't believe that drug trafficking is quite the same.

There are legal cannabis dispensaries in most cities; you will need to present your passport, or a government issued identity card with your photo to purchase, and the amount you are permitted to buy is regulated by local ordinance, so ask first what the limit is.

On a lighter note, if you are familiar with any news related to the various sporting events we've held in this country in the recent past, you'll hopefully have noted that we do take factors into consideration when enforcing public consumption of alcohol & what would be called "drunk and disorderly" and other punitive misdemeanors during large gatherings. Our Belle Haven Metro Police are about as tolerant & easy going as you'll find, but to the degree that YOU make it hard for them NOT to arrest you is how much leeway you're going to get.

Outside of the capital, other cities have adopted similar attitudes and crowd control protocols; Baker Parkers are very enthusiastic sports fans and even the police understand that there are some things that occur in excitement and reveling that are not necessarily criminal behavior.

Most bars and pubs have closing time at 3am, and only such establishments that serve food can legally open prior to 11:15 am to serve alcohol.

We have legalized gambling in Baker Park; there is a modern casino downtown in Belle Haven as well as casinos in East Liverpool (just south of Endborough) and suburban Oceana.
Prostitution is not illegal, but it's not technically legal either; there are just no uniform laws on the subject. Some local jurisdictions may have ordinances that confine the practice to certain places or certain degrees of "offense", but no legal entity is permitted to make prostitution or solicitation more than a minor misdemeanor.

Violent crime is extremely rare in the Commonwealth. There is a higher chance you will fall off a subway platform than be assaulted or robbed with a firearm, and we take pride in the safety of our subways systems.

Time is fleeting and not necessarily universal in Baker Park, which may seem strange if you weigh that fact against the nation's Protestant work ethic. Business hours still follow strange local customs and habit, and no one really can tell you exactly what a "normal schedule" is.
In Belle Haven, merchants, banks, the Stock Exchange, the usual places you think will be open early generally are; 9-5 might be a standard business day for some, but 8:30 to 5:45 or 6 pm is closer to what a large number of office workers and others who work in "midtown" Belle Haven call a day's work. There are all sorts of reasons for this—commuter traffic is the biggest one, and working hours in other nations is probably the second most popular reason.

Plus, lunch is a big deal here--it's a well-worn sense of amusement among citizens that employers can be considered to be maintaining a hostile work environment if people don't get a full hour for lunch. (a lesson that some multiverse companies who open offices here are quick to find out!)

A few phrases/slang terms you might encounter:

money:
Crown--One Dollar (a coronet--not a crown--is on the face or the obverse side of a $1 coin)
One Vic--Two Dollars (see above)
Crown Vic--not a reference to an automobile, it's short for $3
Prince or Freddie--Five Dollars (Prince Frederick, the first Prince Regent, is the face on a $5 note)

transportation:
Trolley--the Light Rail system in Belle Haven (to differentiate from the subway or the train)
CARTA--used specifically to refer to public buses and the subways (which are both clean, safe and on time at a rate of 97.7%)
Red Line--subway that runs north/south between the Midtown Transit Center in BH, to Salisbury.
Blue Line--subway that runs east/west between Brentwood, via Hillsborough, Ellis Park, Hempstead Park; ends at intersection with the Red Line at Baker Park A&M University.
White Line--subway that runs north/south between West Asbury and 4th Street/Miller Plaza Transit Center
Black Line--subway that runs east/west between Riverside City and Patterson Park Transit Center.
BP Rail--one of two passenger train companies, mainly serving the northern areas of the Commonwealth.
BELT--other passenger train service that serves southern areas of the Commonwealth (Baker Park, Ezra & Lynchana).
'A' highways--considered "Federal" roads; generally elevated, 4 or 6 lane divided, limited access expressways.
'B' highways--considered "National" roads; generally not elevated, 4 lanes divided, some at-grade access.
State highways--4 or 6 lanes without permanent barrier division, lower speed limits.
450 highways--cross country 4 or 6 lane expressway with extreme limited access, primarily intended for commercial haulage/long distance travel.

food/drink:
pubs/bars/taverns/lounges/clubs--there is a generally accepted practice that covers what a particular establishment calls itself; by law, only those businesses that offer a full service food menu are permitted to serve alcohol prior to 11:15AM on any day of the week. Therefore, most liquor permit establishments that serve no food call themselves lounges or clubs; bars are generally understood to be adjuncts of hotels, public or private social clubs and train/transit stations. Pubs and taverns are nearly universally full menu food and drink businesses, open to all ages during "normal hours" (11 am to 9pm, although there is no legal definition).

Fan Fest
This year's BPOC will feature Match Day Fan Festivals at or near all venues; there will be activities for the younger fans, vendors, music, food & beverages before and after all matches. Additionally, there will be a daily Fan Zone at the Commonwealth Convention Center in Belle Haven, where matches will shown on a large screen, with music & entertainment and vendors on hand. Details for each particular stadium are included below.

The Venues

The following are to be used in later rounds beyond the group stage:

Keller Field, Belle Haven (capacity 56,500) Championship Final
Image
The country's largest stadium; named for Robert Keller, who is considered the principal writer of the Commonwealth's constitution. It hosts most high profile championship events across many different sports. Designed originally as the centerpiece of later abandoned Olympic Games bid, it was opened in 1973.

Fan Festival: stadium plaza, noon-9pm match day

Sportsman's Park, Belle Haven (capacity 39,000) quarterfinal #1 and 3rd place playoff
Image
The capital's second stadium and the oldest in the country is also its most visited & recognizable to even the slightly casual Baker Park sports fan. Most of the famous "firsts" in sport history occurred at the venue over the years since it was completed in 1921; its name comes from the former Deauville Sportsman's Club—charter members of the FAC in 1901---who owned the land and used it as their club's site for activities and competitive contests against all comers. The club gave up the ownership of the property to build the permanent structure, but their ornate Edwardian era clubhouse stood for many years after the club's demise in 1956 behind the appropriately named Club Stand (not seen, to the left in this photo); unfortunately it had to be demolished in 1971 to accommodate the expansion of seating.

Fan Festival: park behind the Club Stand, noon-9pm match day

Rogers Stadium, Endborough (capacity 46,800) quarterfinal #3
Image
Completed in 1926 as a home for the Endborough Gold Sox baseball team, it was not well suited to larger field sports like football and soccer; however it did host 2 National Team matches in 1960 and 1964. In 1975, the Endborough Eagles professional football team entered into an agreement to help finance an expansion that nearly doubled the capacity and another investment from the Endborough RFC to share the stadium as a tenant brought about further improvements.

Fan Festival: stadium plaza, noon-9pm match day

Collins Park, Oceana (capacity 47,000) quarterfinal #2 and semi-final #1
Image
A stadium with a complicated history, it is the third athletic ground that has sat on this site. Built and rebuilt in phases and with irregular planning, it was only at the beginning of the 2000's that serious consideration was given to making meaningful structural and aesthetic renovations. A good place to see a match, although it suffers from not having a full time soccer tenant.

Fan Festival: plaza/park adjacent to stadium, noon-9pm match day.

Group A matches (all three stadiums are located on subway lines--see above.)

Salisbury Stadium, Salisbury (capacity 25,900) MD1: Beepee (Sepe) vs Cassidaigua, MD3: Cassidaigua vs Xanneria & consolation #5
Image
Although the city is not technically considered as part of the Metro Belle Haven area, the extension in 1991 of the subway/commuter rail line (Red Line, access from Belle Haven's Midtown Transit Center, approximate trip is 35 minutes.) to the Salisbury Civic Center (adjacent to the stadium) meant that this city became a target of commuters moving in over the next decade. Home to 2nd Division club Salisbury City, who have played here since 1975, it also hosts neutral site matches in all of the major Cup competitions, due to the central proximity of city and ease of travel.

Fan Festival: on the plaza between the Civic Center and the Stadium, 2 hours prior to & following the match.

Hillsborough Stadium, Belle Haven (capacity 17,500) MD1: Xanneria vs Lisander, MD2: Lisander vs Cassidaigua & consolation #8
Image
One of the busiest venues in the city, if not the whole Commonwealth, Hillsborough Stadium has seen more than its share of memorable moments. Home of Hillsborough FC, and the University of Belle Haven's football, men's & women's soccer teams, plus high school football and soccer; completed in 1934 and renovated between 1997-2002, "The Hill" remains one of the important National Team home stadiums.

Fan Festival: on Hillsborough High Street (7 minutes walking distance from stadium or via free shuttle), 90 minutes before & after the match.

Hempstead Park Mews, Belle Haven (capacity 14,800) MD2: Xanneria vs Beepee (Sepe), MD3: Beepee vs Lisander & consolation #7
Image
The former park that was popular among the wealthy elite for grazing and exercising their horses around the turn of the 20th century, it is now the home stadium of Baker Park A&M University; the first college gridiron football game in the Commonwealth was played here in 1911 and it was an alternate home ground for Victoria & Albert FC due to restrictions on hosting night games at their Rosenau stadium up to 2004.

Fan Festival: on East Quad, adjacent to the stadium, 2 hours before & after the match.

Group B (all three cities connected via northern cross country rail service, as well as highway)

State Fairgrounds Stadium, Springfield (capacity 36,000) MD1: Velestria vs Abahnfleft, MD3: Velestria vs Baker Park & QF consolation #1
Image
Springfield would probably not be the bustling city of over 300,000 if a simple decision had not been made to route one of the east-west cross country railway lines through it instead of further south.
The city is the nation's agricultural hub, as the food processors & packagers, the farm commodity markets, the agri-business companies are all based here in the heart of "farm country".
The Baker Park State Fair began here in 1919 and has grown through the years to become the de facto national Agricultural Fair of the Commonwealth—only Ezra still holds a separate state fair every year, and most of its competitions and exhibitions are just preliminaries to the BP Fair.
The Stadium has many excellent attributes and is popular as a venue among fans of many sports.

Fan Festival: inside the Fairgrounds, across the street from the stadium, 3 hours before & 2 hours after the match

Lions Stadium, Lima (capacity 26,500) MD1: Mryasia vs Baker Park, MD2: Baker Park vs Abahnfleft & consolation #2
Image
The country's 13th largest city (pop 223,000) has long called itself the Capital of the North and there has always a bit of pioneer spirit among citizens. An important center for several major industries (forestry/paper products, petroleum, chemicals), the state established its first branch of the University of Baker Park here in 1919. The stadium's soccer history has seen it host the finals of the Women's FAC Cup and the men's National League Cup.

Fan Festival: Corbett Square, downtown Lima (free shuttles to & from the stadium), noon-8pm match days.

FSFB Stadium, New Bremen (capacity 12,000) MD2: Mryasia vs Velestria, MD3: Abahnfleft vs Mryasia & QF consolation #2
Image
Corporate sponsorship of stadiums is rare in the Commonwealth, so this stadium is among the handful of venues that carry private business identification. Home of New Bremen FC, the stadium was completed in 2009 as part of major investment into the club by the country's sixth largest bank.
Fan Festival: West Franklin St (5-8 minute walk from stadium), 2 hours prior, 90 minutes following the match.

Group C (all three cities connected by rail & highway, and river ferry)

Queen Victoria Stadium, Ezriquay (capacity 37,475) MD1: Pratapgadh vs Equestrian States, MD 3: Equestrian States vs Joshenia and quarterfinal #4
Image
The stadium has much in common with several of the other older venues on this list—its riverside location, easy access to public transportation and multi-use adaptability. The men's NT have played here on 8 occasions, with 3 wins and 3 draws and the women far more frequently. With the University of Ezriquay just across road there are plenty of food & drink establishments nearby that cater to both students and sports fans alike.

Fan Festival: Riverside Park, west of the stadium, noon-9pm match days.

Newport City Stadium, Newport (capacity 25,000) MD1: Joshenia vs Darmen, MD2: Darmen vs Equestrian States and consolation #4
Image
Newport is country's major seaport and also home to the Naval Service of the Commonwealth Fleet Command, but it also has plenty of other things to see and do. The stadium is home to the Newport City FC and the Naval Academy's football team and has been a frequent host to the NT in recent years, with one loss in 8 previous trips.

Fan Festival: City Plaza, downtown Newport (free shuttle to & from the stadium), 4 hours prior, 2 hours after the match.

Hamilton City Stadium, Hamilton (capacity 22,000) MD2: Joshenia vs Pratapgadh, MD 3: Pratapgadh vs Darmen and consolation #3

One of the more modern venues, HCS was completed in 2008 and is host to the UAC Women's soccer championship, Hamilton Wanderers FC, and West County RFC. Also, state high school playoff games take place at HCS for men's and women's soccer and football.

Fan Festival: Hamilton Commons, adjacent to the stadium, 1-9pm match days.

Group D (Marshallton is inland, connected via rail to Shirley & by highway to both; Shirley and St Warren are across the river from one another & connected via bridge & ferry)

Presidents Park, Shirley (capacity 26,115) MD2: Freeport Isles vs The Black Party, MD3: Transmondian Commonwealth vs Freeport Isles & semi-final #2
Image
Presidents Park retains its unusual shape and mismatched stands for reasons that have less to do with money & more to do with the desire of fans to not change the character of the ground; many campaigns to build a modern facility away from downtown have been squashed by public sentiment. Completed in 1923 and renovated and rebuilt several times, the roof on the Main Stand was for many years the largest under-truss cantilevered structure in the Commonwealth.

Fan Festival: Delegacy Plaza, downtown Shirley (free shuttle to & from stadium) 1-8pm match days

MacIlwaine Park Stadium, St Warren (capacity 23,000) MD1: Freeport Isles vs Qasden, MD2: Qasden vs Transmondian Commonwealth & consolation #6
Image
Home of St Warren State University & St Warren City FC, it hosted its first ever National Team fixture during the qualifying for World Cup 81.

Fan Festival: City Green, adjacent to the stadium, 2 hours before & after the match

Municipal Stadium, Marshallton (capacity 15,700) MD1: The Black Party vs Transmondian Commonwealth, MD 3: The Black Party vs Qasden and consolation #1
Image
Built in 1948, the stadium is host to several tenants—Marshallton Athletic SC, Marshallton University and Marshallton Stallions professional football team. A popular away day for opposing soccer fans, as the town is one of the most accessible in the country via highway and rail.
Fan Festival: Town Plaza, downtown Marshallton (free shuttle to & from stadium) 2:30 hours before, 90 minutes after the match.

CALIX ZANA — It was a quiet press conference, certainly more so than the press conference from when national team manager, Christopher Tajo Mendez had been hired, but it served the same purpose - to announce the 23-man roster ahead of the Baker Park Open in lieu of the second edition coming.

In opening statements, Tajo Mendez spoke some praises to the national team, speaking on successive moral-building performances in recent and the Campianto Esportiva, "when one considered where we were four years ago...we limped through the 72nd Cup of Harmony, and then to look back on that transformation our team has grown in that time period. And yes, we've slumped back, but I am confident that this year is finally...yes, finally our chance to see our team climb up and emerge as a future footballing power to look out for," Tajo Mendez spoke. "We've seen large improvements everywhere, one can only look to our U-18 national team for inspiration, two years ago they went and conquered in Free Republics, and now at this very moment they are looking to defend their crown in Equestrian States. This nation has incredible talents from far and near, there are many in this nation with huge contributions to make, and we're extremely confident in the 23 selected today who can go forth to Baker Park and on to the qualification rounds for the World Cup and prove extraordinary things for us."

Similarly, he held no things back as he pointed out the Starting XI for the Baker park Open, despite not knowing who they'd be facing. "Yes, of course there were so many options at the front as to who we'd want to start for our side, at the end however, we believe we've picked the best of the best who all will be able to show out for the national team." That's an intriguing statement as there brewed a goalkeeping controversy which we saw Tajo Mendez speak on. "We have three goalkeepers who all have shown their immense ability to vie for the #1 spot on the roster, Easton Thomas has long been the solid skipper in the back for us, even now he's a smart choice. To have him on the field is like having a second coach, however, he's notified me of his wish to receive a lesser workload as we enter the next pivotal time for footballing in the nation. This leads me to having to select from Diamond Gregory, the superb backup we've developed from Applegate City or Alexis Barker, the goalie who transferred to Cosumar's Fevelo County a month ago. Chris Banker, a person who was brought in for the Campianto Esportiva is a quality goalkeeper, but the pivotal direction we're sending this team in just differs from the goals Mr. Banker was comfortable with."

However, there was an expected announcement from Tajo Mendez, "In the end," he began, "there's only been a single change in the Staring XI, we've seen the team emerge more competitively as the quality of play domestically slowly improves. We haven't seen any domestic play with the league over 5 months ago, so that was vital to us choosing who were getting the start for the national team, ultimately we need to get more Velish players in foreign leagues as to improve our ability to play, we have players who have not touched the field in months, that cannot continue, This is why I've decided to give Alexis Baker the No. 1 spot for the Baker Park Open, and while yes this is a major turn of events I am confident that he has shown the ability to deserve that kit over the camp." And while its toned down that's still...a huge announcement, a 31 he's on the other side of thirty and will probably find lest time to ply his trade internationally for the nation, does this mean this is truly the beginning of the transformation for the side? We already saw in the CE 6 new players debut on the Starting XI...the true start of the new era could finally be here for the national team.

"Right now, that assures us that Easton Thomas remains our first bench choice for the Baker Park Open, this also moves Diamond Gregory to the third spot at goalkeeper." Tajo Mendez continued, "these are two very capable players who can play the 1 spot for us at any time, and clearly at times we're going to need them to help us in latter parts of the game at any time. Easton Thomas is a man who has done quite well at the domestic level, Diamond Gregory is a young future goalkeeper for the national team alongside Baker, both show quality and will progress to a level that will prove to show the quality of the Velestrian footballing nation. Given Gregory's play this season, I want to see her develop more alongside Baker throughout the next two years, both players factor greatly into our team."

Diving into other parts of the roster, Tajo Mendez goes on discussing the team and other minor changes, "Yellis Eugene is plugged back into the roster for our team, we'd like to use him as a supersub, even at 35 he is an explosive player who can dominate tempo if needed, if combined with Utamara in the midfield an explosive attack that can be built with the two running the midfield." A dominate aspect has been a successor to leading the defense like former captain Victor Parks was, currently the most-capped is Roy Norwood, with 7 caps and also the U-18 champion from two years prior, a player who can expertly develop into a the greatest defender Velestria has had and be enshrined in the lore of Velish football gods.

"Despite these deliberate tools we've used to build a winner we're still concerned with our greatest position of need, an able striker...Augusta Clark coupled with Chris Goddard at the front is the latest solution to the ever-burning problem we've seen with the national team, an attack that is constantly stalled under heavy duress hurled at by larger, taller defenders. Now we know its a known fact Velish people are generally smaller, however the fact we cannot consistently challenge with bigger teams for headers is a terrible factor that doomed us many times previous. I have looked at how to improve this and have brought in younger players such as Brent Davis, the Fullham Rangers plyer who no doubt could fill that role in the future as a 6'5 striker who'd challenge alongside the larger defenders in the final offensive third. A key aerial threat, if he's able to improve his first touch and targeting, he's certainly a player we're look at in the future as a key member of our squad."

"All in all, I believe we've been able to see the best possible side we can put out there, I'm very excited to see what the team has in store. We still have two weeks until the flights to Baker Park, so we've got time at camp to work on some integral things that are no doubt going to improve the team, we're looking forward to the challenge we have coming up for us. There is a fire burning in this team that we can feel, that the nation is going to come. Critics is going to fuel this fire, and we're going to get better, and we're quite excited to where this team will be."

FAC to start new cycle with 2nd Open Cup.
Frank Armitage
The Daily Mail Chief Soccer Writer

The governing body for soccer in Baker Park kicks-off the long road towards a third consecutive qualification for the World Cup when they host the opening match of the 2nd Baker Park Open Cup at Lions Stadium in Lima, as the Women's National Team will take on first time participants Mryasia.

The tournament has expanded to 16 teams, with the defending champions Cassidaigua returning their men's squad, along with 5 other nations who took part in the inaugural event.

Tournament Director Allison LaFleur says that fans can expect the same level of excitement & entertainment this time around as was generated previously. "We are pleased to bring an excellent field to the Commonwealth for this second go-round. In addition to Cassigaigua, the Equestrian States, Darmen, the Freeport Isles, Joshenia and Abanhfleft returning, we welcome several other nations who couldn't commit to playing last time, but who were quick to respond to our invitations."

Staying with the same concept as the first Open Cup, groups will be based around three venues in relative close proximity to one another, and this has brought matches to some new audiences. "We were extremely happy with the attendances we had last time, and we wanted to accommodate certain stadia who wanted to host, so having Hamilton, Lima, St Warren, Marshallton and New Bremen involved is another step for us to have an event that all fans have a chance to take part in", said LaFleur.

In the wake of the newest sponsorship deals recently finalized by the FAC, television coverage of the National Team matches in the Open Cup will be broadcast on the NTS network, while CommSports 1 & 2 will have live broadcasts of other games in the tourney; another major change will be in the sponsorship of the Open Cup as well as the men's and women's FAC Cup & the National Team, as High Plains Beverage Company of Salisbury wrested the rights as Official Beverage Partner away from BCEL Beverage.

Pratapgadh Men's B defeats Equestrian States B
Image

Written by Rajeev Chauhan

Today is a great day for all Pratapgadhis. Pratapgadh B starts off with a win against Equestrian States B, one to zero. I was thrilled by the performance Pratapgadh put up today, these guys have a chance at this tournament.

This is how the match went. For the first 10 minutes, no one was able to pass through. Both teams were having difficulty in going through each other's defence. In the next 20 minutes, the fire was lit. Both teams got many opportunities, but no one was able to take the lead. Nothing much happened till half-time, it felt like both teams were playing ping pong. On the 55th minute, "Adarpadyavand Khaariwala has got the ball! He's going after the Equestrian goal post and... it's a GOAL!!! Pratapgadh had taken the lead on the 55th minute. After that goal, the Pratapgadh team went full defensive, not leaving a single gap to let the Equestrian players go through. Pratapgadh defence line was literally like a wall. It's full-time and Pratapgadh has won this game, one step closer to the quarterfinals.

This is what the captain, Adarpadyavand Khaariwala, had to say after winning the match for his team "I am really happy with my team's performance and my performance. Hopefully, I will be able to score another goal in the next match. It feels great to beat a team like the Equestrian States."

This win is sweeter because we won against a nation that is more known to soccer. Pratapgadh is fairly new to soccer. We didn't have a domestic league till 2000 and didn't have a national team till 2020. Our greatest soccer player was Arzaan Todywala, who made 307 appearances and scored 319 goals.

Pratapgadh is going through a sports phase, it is getting more involved in international sports. Pratapgadh has also joined Baptism of Fire and World Cup 82. Hopefully, Pratapgadh would be able to put a footprint on the international ground. Pratapgadh B has two more matches left. If Pratapgadh B wins one more match, then they will be guaranteed to be in the quarterfinals.

Pratapgadh's next match is with Joshenia who have defeated Darmen Women. Let's see if Pratapgadh can get them out of our path to the championship. Whatever the result, best of luck to our team for their next match!

Velestria — The National Team
Debutants Hoping to Build With Youth

A relatively new nation on the international stage, the one-time winners of the U18 Sporting World Cup and facing scrutiny after a self-imposed one-cycle ban from WCC-sanctioned events, the Velestrian national team once more returns with a new look and new aspirations following deep, impactful changes to the team. A long time coming off since footballing competition, the same generation still holds strong as the national team will look to hold their own.

Team & Tactical Information
Coming off disappointment at the last Cup of Harmony Velestria took place in, nearly four years ago; Devontan manager, Christopher Tajo Mendez who operated the much-maligned 4-4-2 during his brief first stint with the national team during COH 72 has constituted major works to revamping the squad, introducing a 3-2-3-2 line-up that sees former veterans of the national team exit in haste as the national team sees new players incorporated into the core of the team and former players exit from the fold. With need for better focus on defense, the team we're likely to see on display this time is going to likely be very defensive and have a lot of experimental players thrown in, the backbone of the national team is likely to be missing from this as we saw with new call-ups during the national selection camp which had many with piqued interest.

    Style modifier: -3.85
    Rank: 171st (KPB: 2.90)
    Usual formation: 3-2-3-2
Tactical breakdown: Judging from the proposed national team lineup that Tajo Mendez has put into circulation in recent weeks, a 3-2-3-2 lineup is meant to give a commanding presence to the backline. Former national team captain, Victor Parks is now retired from the fold, this gives rise to a need for a new captain a the first generation is effectively for the most-part gone from the consciousness of Velestria, a new antional team is likely to emerge from the fold guided at the top by new players who have shown in Prava Leveg. The midline looks healthy...Fursawa Utamara will be a lynchpin, at only 19 years he's looking more and more each day lie a bright star in that area. Given how the midline will need to function together, as a gel the early pairing at the midline look entirely foreign to us but also, at the same time worthwhile. Arguablly the greatest player in Velestrian history, Yellis Eugene is now a backthought in the mind of Velish football, he's finishing his last years — in footballing of course(!) in Acronius; seeing him return to the Starting XI seems very unlikely with the new tactics built in place. The front line is also forever changed; gone are the traditions of the front, Kevin Kyrell along with Edfrom Heartland, for years the front power and goal-scoring generators for the national team are now departed. Unproven men and women will need to fill shoes which at one point saw Velestria rise into the top-100, now once more Velestria will need, with the utilization of new tactics and skills, climb the table once more.

Al Gyzhon — The Gryphons

STARTING ELEVEN

Easton Thomas
Goalkeeper, 31 Club in Razenthuria: Athletic New Victoria. Caps: 23, clean sheets: 3
International Debut: North Prarie (South Toronto Invitational Cup)

Easton Thomas as 31 returns to charge as the goalkeeper of choice for Tajo Mendez, coming off a good season with the Swans in which he allowed only 23 goals on season. He hasn't played in any international tournaments in two consecutive years, however he's by far the best choice for the job. There's obvious concerns over his mentality entering this tournament, his team Athletic New Victoria was of course in a spiral trajectory, headed down this season. Easton Thomas's best days are likely behind him, his playing is going to be a big determinant on whether or not he remains with the team for the new World Cup cycle in which Velestria faces a grueling campaign to reemerge and fix the national team over time. Thomas also serves as a lynchpin for the person to succeed him, likely the youthful 23 year-old Diamond Gregory of Applegate City.

Matt Borell
Rightback, 20 Club in Razenthuria: Azuera. Caps: —, goals: —
International Debut: —

In the summer of 413 Borell was playing for the Velestrian U18 side which quietly rushed to the Sporting World Cup 5 U18 cup title which stunned many pundits, this unknown nation quietly able to produce a worthy youth team to rival the great power's youth academies in football. Borell continued to represent the U18 before progressing to the U21 which saw him seek action in 415 in the U21 Di Bradini Cup. Now he's received his first call up after performing exceptionally for Azuera en route to their march to a third successive title. One of the many on part of the ongoing rebuild that the national team is taking part in, Borell is looking to build on his successful display he was able to show to scouts three years ago and is looking to help the team move forth in the regional championships ever-so-slowly. Borell has flown under the radar in recent years and is only recently starting to come into his own part of the new generation of Velestrian football; new players taking the stage hoping to build a well-aligned national team.

Josh Reven
Centerback, 23 Club in Razenthuria: Gamba Calix. Caps: —, goals: —
International Debut: —
Another new tool for the national team, arriving from Gamba Calix; Pierre Denton's-lead side, Reven is the 23 year-old sensation who is likely to move to the big teams in Velestria; either Azuera, Fullham Rangers or of course the sleeping giant, Athletic New Victoria. Reven is the super-conservative centerback that the national team has been looking for...finally a man who can man the center-backfield with relative ease with the legs and knowledge to do so. A new pairing will call for loads of team chemistry, but the departure of Charity Williams from the centerback position after holing it up with Marcus White will be interesting. Quinlen Rasaux and Aiden Psikey showed to be a bad pairing in the handful of pairings we saw them in, Rasaux has been removed from the national team picture likely, Reven looks like the youthful, vibrant leadership that has been bound for the future.

Roy Norwood
Leftback, 20 Club in Razenthuria: Athletic New Victoria. Caps: 2, goals: —
International Debut: Northwest Kalactin (COH 72)

Roy Norwood is 20 years old. Another vetaren of the the magical U18 team which did well, this new man on the team is the only capped player of the backline, but he is far from the best man for the position, it seems as it he is being slowly developed by Tajo Mendez. We're slightly concerned over the decision to choose Norwood, he seems more-or-less to be a domestic player at best. However, there's a lot of leadership that's been shown by Norwood, he was a commanding presense in the Cup of Harmony, guiding lines for them although it was to no avail. Now, looking twoards the CE, he's expected to push for deeper defensive positions, he's developed continually for Athletic New Victoria, coming off a decent showing for the Swans. However, a lot of changes are likely to be made for Norwood in the coming weeks, there's hope to develop him over time.

Carson Singleson
Defensive right-midfielder, 26 Club in Razenthuria: Peachtree FC. Caps: —, goals: —
International Debut: —

The captain of Peachtree F.C. in Prava Leveg, he commanded the midfield for the team; using leadership and expected high-octane play, he showed he knew what he was doing. Certainly, he's earned the call-up, after prowling on the sidelines always on the outside looking in; it now appears as if he finally will have the chance he needs to prove himself. At 26, he's older than most of the other players remaining in the national team; however his time with Peachtree F.C. shows how much of a hero he is. Setting up in defensive sets, his points will be needed for the developing defense that's forming its nucleus.

O.J. Peaflower
Defensive left-midfielder, 29 Club in Razenthuria: Old Birmingham City. Caps: —, goals: —
International Debut: —

Youthful, exuberant; he not connected with well-known national team star, Frank Peaflower. Instead, O.J. Peaflower is his own man coming off a good season with club, old Birmingham City; scoring 7 goals and controlling a midfield that was shown to be strong and in position to control the tempo of games much better than the previous. Peaflower is likely one of the older palyers on the team and will need to learn quickly however due to his inexperience on the national team; he'll have chances to learn the ropes as some older players are also on the team to give guidance. However, Peaflower himself is a natural-born leader, even us ourselves are slightly surprised he was not named team captain of the national team for the CE, perhaps attributing to his inexperienced with the national team. If Peaflower can click well with Singleson that offers a good pairing at the second midline which could be very opportunistic for jumpstarting a counterattack.

Vronin Ingles
Right center-midfielder, 23 Club in Razenthuria: Fullham Rangers. Caps: —, goals: —
International Debut: —

Making his debut after a big move from the Velestrian third division to the Prava Leveg to the Fullham Rangers, Vronin Ingles is going to be a well-serviced player moving forth for the national team. The play we've seen from him is nothing short of spectacular and magical. While, of course he has much development left to do over the next few years, he's offered a glimpse of brilliance in one season with the Fullham Rangers. Billed as a quicker, faster Yeellis Eugene, living up to the hype surrounded by the former position of Eugene is going to be a big one, not notoriously known for his prowess at wing and more for his habit to find the goal. Ingles in all his time only has 7(?) goals in one season, nothing screaming wonderman in his first appearance in the top division.

Evans Thirdgray
Center-midfielder, 26 Club in Razenthuria: Fullham Rangers. Caps: 5, goals: 0
International Debut: Acronius (COH 72)

Evans Thirdgray? Who is this? Another elusive defender who masquerades as a center-midfielder, that’s who — Thridgray arrives as yet another new player who will be tasked with playing as a Starting XI member of the Velestrian national team, he comes in when the team is suffering from injury after injury and reeling in domestic play. Now, after being a good defensive presence last season, he seems to have elevated his game to a new height this season – and its paid off as he received an invite from Tajo Mendez to play on the national team. Another promoted player from the domestic leagues, it seems that he looks to be the most-complete midfielder at the Fullham Rangers, he wouldn’t be the first player to shine on the world stage after a quick promotion. Right now, Thirdgray should be looking to dish off and learn the ropes — he has so much time to become the big man for the Gryphons, he’s 26, guaranteed to still be around for at least two more World Cup cycles. Thirdgray will view this chance as an opportunity, a chance to gel with the new team and learn the ropes of the team. His presence cannot be denied however, he’ll be involved in some defensive work and will try to assist in enforcing an offside trap.

Furusawa Utamara
Left center-midfielder, 19 Club in Razenthuria: Azuera. Caps: 6, goals: 8
International Debut: Banija (post-WC81 cycle friendlies)

The bright sensation billed as being the answer to Yellis Eugene, Furusawa Utamara is a technically skilled maestro who we've only seen on display in six games; in that period he's been able to rack up 8 goals. With that in mind, that tells us plenty — great things are in store for Utamara. Of course, there's youthful inefficiencies he'll need to work through, typical growing pains of a player like him.

Chris Goddard
Striker, 28 Club: Palame (ACR). Caps: 4, goals: 3
International Debut: Qusmo (friendly)

Nothing more than a solid transition piece to the next breed of strikers for the national team, for starters the time of the Kyrell-Heartland two=point domination of the striker position is gone. Goddard finally moves into and steps up as a striker, however at 28 I don't expect his time with the first team to be exceptionally long. Additionally, Goddard hasn't played in sometime at his club in Acronius and has expressed his wishes for a move to a more-suitable league; Goddard is likely one of the biggest wastes of talent the team has gone thru for the national side; likely to expire soon before he can get any real action. However, he can use this as a chance to get back into the fold of national team training, a talented player he can assist the other strikers who will likely play alongside them as he grooms them to replace himself.

Augusta Clark
Striker, 18 Club in Razenthuria: Reading Athletic. Caps: —, goals: —
International Debut: —

She's a specimen for the future striker job with the national team; sure, in her first season she managed only 12 goals, however the drawback with her are very small. Augusta Clark has the makings of a better Kevin Kyrell, from ball control to shot accuracy, the upside with this youthful, vibrant player is so incredibly large we find ourself pleased o see her likely to feature for the national team. Aside from that, a thoruough investigation into Calrk has not really been done enough for analysis; last season in the Prava Leveg II she racked up 18 goals; so she certainly will have en eye for the net!

Maroons Marooned

Hillsborough, Baker Park While Xanneria had a respectable debut in its inaugural international showing the 23rd Copa Esportiva, the Baker Park Open Cup may just turn into a flop. A 1-0 loss to Lisander's women's side. It was clear from the start that the Xannerian team wasn't its usually aggressive self. While the Maroons knew going into this game that there were be cross gender battles and despite that, Xanneria's traditional aggressive style didn't show up and in the end the ladies from Lisander won 1-0. A goal by their forward in the 37th minute proved to be all the scoring as a much much more defensive game broke out. In turn we did see a definite clinic in dribbling as guys like Chuckie Van Horn and Mo Goddard showed off some skills in playing keep away. But in the end a 1-0 loss means that the Sepe game for Xanneria is critical.

Manager Amos Alton went on to say that yes they knew going in that this would be a mixed gender tournament and that yes they were going to change up the game plan accordingly. For what its worth Alton did make a good defensive gameplan, given that in traditional Xannerian football a defensive game still has at least four goals in it. THe next game for the boys in Maroon is Sepe. From what we understand Sepe is a Province in Bepe and their provincial football team is representing Bepe in the Cup.

About the Transmondian Commonwealth of New England:

In 1789, representatives of the American states met to draft a new constitution, but talks broke down due to irreconcilable differences on the issue of slavery, and the states of Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island declared themselves independent from the United States. They formed a new union called the Commonwealth of New England, which also included Vermont. In 1933, Newfoundland was peacefully annexed and became the 6th state of the Commonwealth.

New England was a bastion of freedom in a world plagued by slavery, and it was a formiddable naval power, but America's hostility and Europe's dependence on American grain exports put the Commonwealth in a precarious position politically and economically. This was exacerbated by the rise of fascism in the 20th century.

By the 1970s, New England was suffering severe food shortages due to trade embargoes and overpopulation, and many people emigrated to Canada or America.

This state of affairs continued until 1988, when a team of researchers at MIT made a discovery that would completely upend the balance of power: they discovered a way to travel between parallel worlds. In other worlds, they found technologies that were unheard of in their own timeline. New England became the world's only nuclear power in a world where the concept of nuclear fission had never been conceived. The great slaveholding powers laughed when New England demanded that they free their slaves or face annihilation. A week later, with Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Baltimore reduced to smoldering craters, the United States surrendered and countries across Europe emancipated their slaves to avoid war.

It did not take long for Yankee leaders to realize that their new technology opened up more possibilities than just the opportunity to steal nuclear warheads from other worlds. They began reaching out to their counterparts in other versions of New England, attempting to unite all the Yankee people as a single nation spanning multiple worlds. In worlds that were technologically backward, they shared their knowledge to improve the people's lives and encourage them to join the Commonwealth. In worlds that were more technologically advanced, they learned everything they could and brought the new technologies home to their own world for study.

But there was one technology they were careful never to share: the ability to open portals between worlds. That was a closely-guarded secret because they knew it would be disastrous if it fell into the hands of a rival power like the Americans or the Germans.

In worlds where New England was not inhabited by English-speaking white people, they left the locals to govern themselves. Although what it means to be a Yankee can vary greatly from one world to the next, they understood that French people and Indians were separate peoples with separate histories. Where the French and Indians were friendly, trade was established, but their land was not annexed and their people were not allowed citizenship. In worlds where New England was inhabited by English-speaking white people -- regardless of whether they called themselves Yankee, American, Canadian, or British, and regardless of whether they had minority populations of other ethnic groups living in their midst -- emissaries attempted to persuade the people to join the Transmondian Commonwealth.

They never attempted to annex anything outside the traditional borders of New England. In worlds where North America had no human population, they would plunder it for natural resources, with no regard for borders -- but where there was a human population, they wanted only the alternate versions of their own country. In worlds where New England was an independent country with different borders, or where it controlled colonies, they respected the local borders and they kept the colonies. In some worlds, they found themselves governing Namibia, Australia, or the moon. In worlds where New England belonged to the United States, Canada, or some European power, they attempted to persuade the people to secede from the local government and join the Commonwealth instead.

Within a few decades, the Commonwealth expanded across dozens of worlds and established trade with hundreds more. The population ballooned from 30 million to several billion, and technology advanced at a breakneck pace that was difficult to comprehend. The Home States became a hub for trade between worlds, and the infrastructure struggled to keep up with all the people coming and going, leading to atrocious traffic congestion and overcrowded cities.

The government became unwieldy as the nation grew far faster than the bureaucratic systems were designed to handle. Juggling diplomatic relations across hundreds of worlds was an overwhelming challenge. But even as people were reeling from all the rapid changes, most people were better off. Anyone that wanted to make a new life for themselves could go to one of the uninhabited worlds and help plunder them for natural resources.

The worlds are named according to what the first Yankee visitors found notable about them. For example, the Australian Countries are a world where New England colonized Australia. The Obama Countries are a world where Barack Obama was president of the United States when the first emissaries arrived. The Dark Countries had no electric power when they were first discovered.

Delivering mail, managing trademarks, and discussing geography can be a challenge, as many names are repeated across different worlds. There are hundreds of versions of Boston, Portland, Providence, etc. and each version of Boston may have a street called Beacon Street or Commonwealth Avenue. Sports teams, colleges, and companies often have the same names from one world to the next. To clear up confusion, the name of the world is specified: The Patriots of the Home States, the Red Sox of the English Countries, the University of Vermont in Rainbow Burlington. This also applies to the names of politicians, athletes, authors, or entertainers who may be famous in multiple worlds -- though people from the Home Countries do not use a world name. The president of the Commonwealth, who is from the Home Countries, is Darren Rollins. The governor of Newfoundland in the Neon Countries is Darren Rollins Neon.

Because most worlds have their own international sporting events, the Commonwealth often fields several "national" teams in the same sport. Some recruit only from their own world; others recruit from across multiple worlds. It's very common for talented athletes from less developed worlds where there are not many international competitions to travel to more developed worlds where they have better career opportunities.

The soccer team that is participating in the Baker Cup is the "national" team of the Green States. The Green States are socially stable version of New England with a beautiful environment and a decent level of technological development, but it is a bit rural and sparsely populated and not the Commonwealth's biggest economic or military powerhouse. Soccer is popular as a way for kids to get exercise, but as a professional sport, people do not take it as seriously as ice hockey or baseball.

Green States English is an unusual dialect with unique grammar. Greenies are usually pretty patient when people have trouble understanding them because of their dialect, but it does make conversation more difficult. King Phillip's War never happened in the Green States, so there are many people with Native American ancestry. The culture has been heavily Anglicized and most people have English names, but you will still see a lot of dark hair, brown eyes, and faces that don't quite look European. There has been so much race-mixing that there are no longer separate "white" and "Native" communities. Everyone thinks of themselves as white, and telling them that the Wampanoag are not white is about as socially acceptable as claiming Irish are not white.

Coaches & Staff
Image
Manager - Image Pearly White (Earth Pony - Female) - 47
Appointed interim manager of the national team by the Hoofball Association following the resignation of Twilight Striker - the Ponies' long-time boss of some 12 World Cup campaigns - Pearly White secured the position on a permanent basis with a number of impressive performances against higher-ranked opposition in her first games at the helm, including a stunning upset of then-defending world champions Vilita in the 3rd Cup of Champions. Since then, Pearly White has done nothing to give her employers any doubts that she's the best pony for the job, leading the Equestrian States on a Runner Cup title run without dropping a single point and reaching the 4th Cup of Champions semifinals before capping it all off with a second round appearance at the World Cup finals.

Image
Assistant Manager - Image Dreamy Skies (Pegasus - Female) - 43
Not very long ago, Dreamy Skies was a rookie manager taking the reins of Second League club Whitetail Foresters. Her arrival had a near-instant impact on the club's fortunes as they were promoted to the United League the following season and now regularly contend for UICA berths, an incredible improvement in such a short period of time for a team once known largely for producing talent which was then poached by bigger clubs, at the Foresters' expense. When Pearly White first took charge of the Equestrian senior team, she managed to convince the HA that the still-young pegasus would be a strong addition to the Ponies' coaching staff, and thus far it has paid-off spectacularly. Players routinely praise Dreamy Skies for her enthusiastic optimism and superb work ethic which makes her a popular figure in the locker room and on the practice field.

Image
Assistant Manager - Image Lunar Dusk (Bat Pony - Female) - 43
The newest addition to the national team staff is Lunar Dusk, somepony few Equestrian hoofball fans were aware of just a few years ago but is today one of the best-known coaching talents in the Pony Lands. Like Dreamy Skies, Lunar Dusk's managerial career started in the second tier with Crystal Fair HC, a previously unremarkable side from the Crystal Empire which she transformed into a legitimate force within a few seasons thanks to a focus on quickly developing the Grounders' budding young stars into hoofballers capable of hanging with the best. After shattering numerous Second League records and earning promotion, Crystal Fair survived a relegation battle in their first ever United League campaign, broke into the top half the following season, and last year defied all expectations to come within a tiebreaker playoff of ending Crystopolis City's previously unchallenged monopoly on the Crystal Empire's Champions' Cup berth. With Lunar Dusk's undeniable talent for inspiring young players alone makes her a valuable addition to the staff, but her brilliant tactical mind makes her appointment by Pearly White a no-brainer.

Image
Goalkeeping Coach - Image Fire Blossom (Unicorn - Male) - 52
Responsible for training the Ponies' goalkeepers is Fire Blossom, whose exploits as a keeper in the old Equestrian Premier League earned him much respect amongst early Equestrian hoofball fans and eventually a job with the national team. Fire Blossom's prophetic praise of a teenage prospect named Gentle Breeze and his subsequent push for her initial selection to the senior team for World Cup 62 qualifying have since earned him a reputation as a natural judge of potential, not to mention a considerable amount of credit for Gentle Breeze's many successes.

Image
Scout - Image Diamond Star (Unicorn - Female) - 50
Originally chief scout under Twilight Striker with the Canterlot Royals, Diamond Star was later hired for the national team by the Royals' and Ponies' manager to help identify young Equestrian players with international potential, and the unicorn scout did not fail in her task. Among the current national team stars first scouted by Diamond Star are Thunderlane, Cloudchaser, Rainbow Blitz, and Pristina Shine. Now the manager of Stalliongrad HC, Diamond Star has seen her national team role diminished, though she still provides valuable advice to Pearly White regarding her observations of potential internationals within the United League.

Image
Scout - Image Golden Hooves (Earth Pony - Female) - 61
A veteran member of the Equestrian States staff, Golden Hooves has been around the national team for what seems like forever, her longevity speaking to her performance as a reliable scout. While fellow Ponies scout Diamond Star's focus lies primarily upon United League players and her evaluation of their potential with regards to the senior team, Golden Hooves is responsible mostly for scouting Equestrians on foreign clubs and assessing the Ponies' opponents and how their players compare with those available to the Ponies.

Image
Fitness Coach - Image Craig Jackson (Human - Male) - 50
Hired in the midst of the injury plague which characterized the Ponies' World Cup 63 qualifying campaign, Craig Jackson was the first human member of the Ponies' staff and has done well to keep Equestrian players' injuries minimal in the years since then. While fitness coaches generally don't get much respect or attention from the press, Jackson's gift for keeping players of various biologically-diverse species in near-perfect health throughout grueling tournament schedules which can push them above and beyond their limits is certainly nothing to be dismissed as trivial.

Team Strategy
The Ponies under Pearly White have gradually been shifting away from their traditional 3-5-2 in favor of a 4-2-3-1 built around the Equestrian States' well-known lethal counterattack and dominating the midfield where the Ponies boast considerable depth. Pearly White is expected to use both formations during the Baker Park Open Cup to test out players in different roles than they might be used to playing. Aside from the formations themselves, the Equestrians have a number of definitive strengths and weaknesses.

First, the Ponies are among the world's fastest and most durable teams, using their natural advantages to tire out opponents. With those two traits as the defining characteristics of the Equestrian style of play, the squad excels at producing chances in the latter stages of the match. But while the attack dominates the second half, opposing squads have occasionally found success going all-out at the start of the match in an attempt to build an insurmountable lead.

Another area in which the Equestrian States has traditionally dominated is in the aerial battles for headers. While the Ponies are generally shorter than their opponents, the team is often credited with impressive leaping abilities (particularly among the pegasai players). Controlling headers makes the team lethal on corner kicks, and opponents looking to defeat the Equestrians must limit the number conceded to the Ponies or else face a barrage of dangerous short-range shots from the Ponies' attackers.

On Species and Equestrian Hoofball
The Equestrian States is a nation of incredible diversity. When many countries make this kind of statement, they are referring only to racial matters dealing with differences in skin color or culture. But the Equestrian States takes diversity to a whole new level, with dozens of sapient species living alongside each other in harmony. From pegasai to griffons, and humans to dragons, the Equestrian States is among the most diverse nations known to exist. But diversity has also had a unique and intriguing impact on the playing of sports in the Equestrian States, and hoofball is no exception. In the following paragraphs, the natural strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies of each prominent species in the Equestrian States will be explored, offering those unfamiliar with the Equestrian States a chance to explore the wonderful diversity that makes the Equestrian States a great country and gives our beloved national hoofball team a versatility that few others can hope to match.

Pratapgadh-Joshenia match results in a draw
Image

Written by Rajeev Chauhan

That was one intense match I have seen today. Both teams put all the effort, but the match resulted in a draw, upsetting both teams. Pratapgadh needs to win or tie the next match, or Pratapgadh would have to go through the exit door.

Here's how the match went. For the first ten minutes, nothing happened, as always. The thunder struck on Pratapgadh during the 23rd minute, Bernd Egger scored a striking goal for Joshenia. It's one-nil. On the 44th minute, Bernd Egger scored another goal for Joshenia, greatly reducing Pratapgadh's confidence. Most people thought this is it, but they were wrong. In the second half, on the 63rd minute, Zarafat Abidi scores a goal for Pratapgadh. It's a one-all. "THE WARRIORS ARE STRIKING BACK!" shouts a Pratapgadhi fan. On the 78th minute, Pratapgadh scores another goal, this time its Adarpadyavand Khaariwala. During the 90th minute, the commentator shouted "Adarpadyavand Khaariwala has got the ball, he is going after the Joshenian goal post! He is almost there, can he score the goal!........NO! He was so close, but Jörg Weisz deflected it." The match results in a draw.

Adarpadyavand Khaariwala was especially upset about the match "I was really close to making that goal. We could have won the match, but it wasn't our luck today. Well, lucky Joshenia escaped us." Zarafat Abidi said "I was upset how close we were to win, but just couldn't beat the goalkeeper in the last minute. Though, good match Joshenia."

Though draw is still okay. Pratapgadh needs to win or at least tie the next match, this will guarantee them the quarterfinals. Whatever the result, best of luck to our team for the next match.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM - WOMEN

The Independents Cup is an independent tournament organized by some kind of independent footballing organization, and for the first two editions the independent national football team assembled by independent footballing coach Heinrich Wurzmann was the team sent out to represent the Democratic Republic in this esteemed competition. But now the Samahang Futbol ng Abanhfleft has decided that the Independents Cup is actually a good place to blood in new players they are considering for inclusion for the next World Cup cycle campaign. Since it is the women's team's turn to participate in the next World Cup cycle, the SFA has called up female players who had once participated in Abanhfleft's youth teams to take part in the Independents Cup. Wurzmann's Alternative Football Program still plays a part in the Independents Cup squad selection, and a number of naturalized players will also turn out to suit up for the Lady Revolutionaries.

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation: Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft
Demonym: Fleftic
Team colors: Blue, orange, and green
Style modifier: +3.5
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Manager: Ginny Katesmar (47 y/o, North Prarie)

STARTERS
GK: Stephanie BRYAN 32 y/o, Antslinngs Islands Ladies Image
Stephanie Bryan finally gets to represent the blue, orange, and green once again after over four years of sitting out due to a new reliance on the likes of Yannie Redborne and Yelena Valinovskaya to ride the bench while Victoria Carter is on form, but with Redborne now retiring from international footie and Valinovskaya recovering from ligament repair surgery, Steph will now get the chance to be seen riding the Fleftic bench once again. But whether she will be the long-term replacement for Carter and the rest is still up in the air as there are more promising keepers out there, at least according to Holly Jonasson. Finally gets a run out as the starter for the women's national team, at least for the 5th Independents Cup.

RB: Alma WALKER 23 y/o, Rushmori Drawks Image (The Isles of Avon)
Alma Walker is a decent right back who looks destined to be an actual right back instead of the myriad wingbacks who seem to be cropping up like weeds all over Abanhfleft's academies. Alma is actually ambidextrous with her feet and can play in both fullback positions fairly well and effectively (kind of like Tonya Heaton) but she prefers to work on the right side of the pitch. Doesn't mean that she can't do a good job on the left, though.

RCB: Catarina SOLER 31 y/o, Keephall Valkyries Image
Soler has served as a dependable supporting unit for both center-backs, but once again she is a player that is played out of position in most international games that she gets to play. Soler prefers being a true center-back, but that doesn't mean that she shirks from the responsibilities of being a central fullback shifted a little to the right or the left. Soler had a chance to rise up to the senior women's team but a drop in form coinciding with injuries has kept her out of the national team setup until now. Now Catarina wants to prove that she still has what it takes to be an international quality center back.

LCB: Miranda SULLINS 25 y/o, Sporting Ceneisis Women Image
An exciting prospect if only for the fact that she had gotten herself noticed through the Sporting Ceneisis youth academy, which had been a bit neglected by Artemio Peres in favor of getting players both locally and abroad for as much as his team's Bellinsgauzenian boss is willing to let him spend. Still, it wouldn't do to take away from the fact that she is indeed a good defender, if a bit raw even for the standards of the under-21 teams. And an international call-up such as thing can do no harm to her career. Right?

LB: Deborah RIDDLES 23 y/o, Keephall Valkyries Image
Right now, she's a left back, but Deborah is a natural wing-back who has the potential to develop into an out-and-out winger. Deborah is currently playing with the defense, but only because that is her best footballing position at the moment. Still loves to throw in a cross and will often clog up the left side of the field alongside the team's out-and-out left wingers.

RM: Stephanie WINTER-SLAUGHTER 24 y/o, Marinos Thimpodopoulos Women Image (Fhulghamous Peninsula, playing in the Fleftic Ladies' Premier League)
Winter-Slaughter's surname sounds rather weird when you consider her biggest asset is an unprecedented sense of justice, but it really is. Winter-Slaughter, while a competent midfielder with enough room to grow, became much more notorious for her actions both in and outside of the field, often helping opponents and team-mates at distress from injuries or pretty much anything else. Conquered some hearts for her kindness, funnily enough. Stephanie was given Fleftic citizenship on the recommendation of Heinrich Wurzmann after the disappearance of the Unified Sunrise Islands so that Abanhfleft could take advantage of her talents.

LM: ERIN Jensdottir-Jennings 27 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies Image
We finally come to one of the most controversial additions to Abanhfleft's Independents Cup squad yet. Not a person living in Abanhfleft hasn't heard of the story of Erin Jensdottir and her friend Britt Hanokssen. The two of them had gotten in trouble with an Anglatian gang and their friend Bisera Haralampieva, of Rosen City Ladies and Pridnestrovia women's national team fame, called on another friend of hers to get Erin and Britt out of trouble. They did so by faking Erin and Britt's deaths and substituting them for two dead bodies. Britt and Erin had ended up playing for FC United of Riuwiee in the seventh tier of Fleftic football before they finally came clean about their status, resulting in the biggest ever points deduction in Fleftic football history and a massive settlement package with Hunsen Loggers from United of Riuwiee for both Erin and Britt. Erin is described as the complete playmaker able to operate from deep or right in front with the forwards, which is why Heinrich Wurzmann recommended her naturalization in time for the Independents Cup.

RW: Elene LINER 21 y/o, Sarvusdalamoive Ladies Image
Even at her young age, Elene already has the look of a future fantastic keeper. Well, what else can be said about the Sarvusdalamoive Football Academy, which has turned out great Fleftic keepers like Maksim Varamoninov and Victoria Carter? Unfortunately, she's slipped down the pecking order, but only because Brook Arzate deserves the chance to start this time. She had a lot to make up for after that emotionally devastating penalty shootout loss against Schottia in the 9th Under-15 World Cup and she ended up not having the mental strength to get over the disappointment of the shootout so she decided to become a striker instead. This way she hopes to emulate some of Abanhfleft's star forwards like Matthew Cave and Ruud Akinfenyor who started off as goalkeepers and then decided to make the move up to the top of the pitch.

CAM: Prudence WOODWARD 21 y/o, Duhblakk Aztecs Image
Prudence Woodward is the third and final player of Panemian descent to represent the blue, orange, and green for the Sporting World Cup. She is the younger sister of Julius Woodward and her future appears to be in central attacking midfield. Prudence is already displaying a taste for clever through-balls and occupying pockets of space in which she could create chances and even score a few goals herself. Prudence has also been rumored to be displaying more than just friendly attention and camaraderie with the team's resident lesbian Poppaea Fleet-Street but that's hardly important to the conversation. But although nothing has been confirmed yet, it could be said that it won't be much of a surprise if Prudence came out and admitted that she has a relationship with Poppaea. Also already a mother after an argument with Prudence led to a one-night stand with fellow under-18 teammate Prince William Luckless.

LW: Amelie RUSEV 21 y/o, Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies Image
Amelie Rusev is the best player on current Fleftic under-18 team after Gareth Williamson. At just 18 years old, she's already looking like the complete winger package. Not only is she both quick and light on her feet and strong in the air and during challenges, she is ambidextrous, able to use both feet to send in long balls and crosses into the box when she wants. With that added crossing ability, Amelie is already on her way to the first team of Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies at such a tender age. Kasper Molak will surely look to make Amelie the successor to Raisa Korovina as the next Miss Ludogorets.

ST: Princess GONZALES 20 y/o, Keephall Valkyries Image
A very raw striker who couldn't do enough to keep alive Abanhfleft's hopes of going to yet another Under-18 World Cup final. Perhaps making Princess lead the line for the Lady Revolutionaries at the Independents Cup isn't really a good option but then again, this could very well be the opportunity for her to break through the ranks and make herself known.

RESERVES
GK: Ursula QATINTIKI 29 y/o, Crisisbless Athletic Image (Nephara)
Qatintiki is a ferocious keeper who believes herself to be a good sweeper but unfortunately doesn't have all the necessary skills to be an actual sweeper keeper. Fortunately for her, she's managed to keep 10 clean sheets in the Premier Development League (Ladies' Division) for Sarvusdalamoive Ladies. Unfortunately for her, this performance hasn't carried to her first international call-up in the Sporting World Cup, where she conceded a total of 14 goals in the tournament. But the presence of an experienced back four in front of her could help her concede less in this tournament. Despite being a rapidly rising star in Sarvusdalamoive, Qatintiki opted to cut her contract and sign up for the Pridnestrovian Volunteer Legions in ESTORVIPA. She could actually be charged with treason for fighting for another sovereign nation but the SFA has pulled favors with the Ministry of Justice to delay her trial until the end of the Independents Cup.

GK: Bronwyn CHURCHILL 21 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies Image
Bronwyn is the daughter of Rosenpfelblatz City's new manager Joseph "Joe" Churchill, one of the most decorated managers in the sport within the Fleftic sphere of influence. Bronwyn came with her dad to Rosenpfelblatz and immediately settled in well with the Lady Sky Blues' academy. She is a traditional keeper who prefers to keep close to goal and catch or slap away shots from that position, although she is learning to become a more athletic keeper now that she's training with the likes of Yannie Redborne, Marfa Kirilenko, and Blaze Chrzanowska. It should be noted that Joe Churchill would have liked it more if his daughter had not wanted to be a goalkeeper, but at least he as a father won't worry about where she's been before, during, and after training because they're always in close proximity to each other.

RB: Queen YARNALL 18 y/o, Admiral Porcusces Women Image
A quiet and sturdy defender who for her age is already making waves not only in the youth leagues but also in her handful of appearances for the Admiral Porcusces Women senior team. Still needs some work obviously but she could have a very high ceiling indeed.

CB: Christy SHEPLEY 22 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies Image
At 6 feet 2 inches, Christy is already one of the tallest 17-year-old Fleftic central defenders ever in the Democratic Republic and its sphere of influence. Coupled with a supernatural defensive ability, it's a wonder why she's still on the bench and not starting, until one realizes that Christy is quite the thin and willowy girl. She's a good defender and good in aerial and dead-ball situations, there's no doubt about that, but she has to bulk up and get stronger if she is to become one of Abanhfleft's best defenders. She remains on the bench to make way for Miranda Sullins and Catarina Soler in this Independents Cup squad.

CB: Tiera WALRATH 20 y/o, Ogovlich Medusas Image
One quarter of the Ogovlich backline that won them the Youth Premier League title this season. Like Wilton Kaba beside her in the under-18 team, Tiera's main purpose is to win balls inside the box and then kick it right out of the danger area. Accuracy needs a bit of work though.

LB: Tien GOODLETT 19 y/o, Ogovlich Medusas Image
The second quarter of the Ogovlich backline that won the Youth Premier League. Tien is more of an attacking fullback who likes to maraud further up the pitch and assist in the attack. She still gets back in defense more times than not but a particularly quick counterattack could still leave her stranded where she can be of no help to her fellow defenders.

RM: SIBUSIZWE Kiggwancha 19 y/o, Athletic Motonou Image
SIbusizwe's greatest strength lies in the fact that she can win the ball in midfield more times than not. Of course, most of this is against girls and boys on or nearly the same age as she is, but when she turned out for Athletic Motonou's senior side in the last few matchdays of the Ladies' Third Division season (with the title already wrapped up for Motonou) Sibusizwe looked capable of doing much the same thing against players who were much older and much more experienced than her. Sibusizwe won't have to do that against older and experienced players from other national teams just yet, but she will have to do it against her fellow under-18s from other countries starting from this tournament.

CM: Abigail PAPADIAMANTOPOULOS 28 y/o, All-Inclusive Haranguer Image
Abigail is the tallest player in this roster at 6 feet 8 inches, taller than even her supposed lookalike Stephanie Bryan. Abigail used to play Sunday league with Anglatia's Ross Port Rangers before Fleftic scouts noticed her during the 38th Di Bradini Cup and she signed a contract with Wallace Partridge's All-Inclusive Haranguer. Partridge chose to sign Abigail due to her size and her playstyle which is very much reminiscent of one of the most famous (if not the best) players to put on the black-and-amber shirt in Sutalen "The Beast of Copper Cuprum" Desoka. Despite helping All-Inclusive Haranguer to a fifth-place finish in the 2022-23 season, she was never called up for Anglatia's national team, and with the country now returning to its policy of total isolation, Abigail was given Fleftic citizenship on the recommendation of Heinrich Wurzmann so the SFA could take advantage of her skills on the pitch.

LM: Charlene WILLIAMSON 22 y/o, Admiral Porcusces Women Image
Charlene Williamson is the overlooked twin sister of Gareth Williamson. The reasons why she's been overlooked is because her main assets in football are mostly pace, acceleration, physicality, and a good long ball. Charlene can also run with the ball or chase it for 90 minutes and anyone stupid enough to try to take the ball away from her would find themselves on the ground almost immediately. Strangely though, Charlene's physicality tends to vanish during set pieces and Charlene could now count herself lucky if she doesn't end up kissing the grass while trying to get a touch on a corner or a free kick. Perhaps that's why Sporting Ceneisis allowed her to go to their provincial rivals Admiral Porcusces.

CAM: BRITT Hanokssen-Hanks 24 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies Image
Erin Jensdottir's best friend and girlfriend, Britt has been called "too ambitious for her own good" by the man who would eventually recommend bringing Britt over to Rosenpfelblatz, Matthew Cave. Britt isn't exactly the best, most mobile, most skillful, fastest, or most accurate player available for the Independents Cup, but she makes up for it in her sheer never-say-die attitude. Other things that other players might consider lost causes are just more challenges for Britt to overcome. That being said, if Britt does end up making an appearance for Abanhfleft, it's probably more out of desperation than anything else. But still, no one knows. Maybe this is the tournament where Britt finally shines bright.

FW: Annamarie SABADO 26 y/o, Arsenal de Releinthi Ladies Image
LS: Annamarie SABADO 21 y/o, Arsenal de Releinthi Ladies Image, female
Sabado has the makings of being "the next Fleftic super-sub." No less a footballing authority than Arsenal de Releinthi manager Godric Wexler said so after Sabado had scored the game-winning goal against Lutine to give Abanhfleft a ticket to the Sporting World Cup final. And, judging from her inclusion into the Independents Cup, Heinrich Wurzmann and Miriam Whitaker look to do the same with her for the coming tournament.

FW: Irina BABARUSHCHIK 31 y/o, Dynamo Shebchetsik Image (Mercedini)
Babarushchik used to be in (friendly) competition with Annamarie Sabado for the position of Arsenal de Releinthi Ladies U-21s' starting striker, but Sabado ended up being the winner in the long run as Babarushchik couldn't wait for Chelsea Stuart to retire (which is still a long time coming anyway) and the half-Pridnestrovian striker struck out for greener pastures in the form of Mercedini's Dynamo Shebchetsik. Now, as both Irina and Annamarie return to the Fleftic national team setup for the Independents Cup, they are once again back to competing with each other for the honor of being the next Fleftic super-sub.

Open Cup a bust for BP?
Frank Armitage
The Mail on Sunday Chief Soccer Writer

At the conclusion of the match at the State Fairgrounds Stadium--which saw the Commonwealth Women's Team lose their third consecutive group stage contest, which condemns them to the lowest reaches of the consolation rounds--few spectators, other than the 5000 or so Velestrians who made the trip here, left feeling very confident in the play of the squad.

While the embarrassment of the host nation failing to impress in their own tournament will fade away, the questions raised as the World Cup Qualifying lies ahead bring the dissatisfaction more into focus. Although the women's team left several high profile players off this squad, there will have to be discussions about the performance of the players who find themselves in the gray areas regarding consideration for roster places heading into WCQ play.

There hasn't been discussion as to how the FAC will go about finding a competitive squad to represent the country, should they advance to a third consecutive World Cup Finals; the process used previously worked better than anyone could've imagined, with only a single loss in 18 matches.

The FAC Executive Director, David Carlson, gave a lengthy press briefing during the draw for the quarterfinals and consolation match-ups yesterday at Keller Field.

"This has been a memorable tournament for several of the competitors, which we hope their fans will remember fondly. The rationale for holding the Baker Park Open Cup--to provide an outlet for nations to show the breadth & depth of their national teams--overcomes any particular result that we as a nation might experience. Baker Park is a fair, friendly nation and we hope that we are and will be a steadfast & true friend to the nations that have taken part, both now and previously."

He then continued on to a wider analysis of the Commonwealth's results to date, brushing aside broad criticism of 23 woman roster.
"There is a decision that we (Carlson, men's manager Trevor Richmond, and women's manager Pam Scott) took collaboratively several years ago that we would not create situations where our players who had taken opportunities to play overseas would be asked to play for the national team in friendly matches. That decision didn't affect many players in the national team pool until recently. Pam has the final decision on what players are approached to come in for national team duty; she always has had that, and she always will. She could've asked Brianne (Whitestone) or AB (Annabeth Westmoreland) or any of the other veterans to come on. We're not trying to run our talent into the ground physically by insisting on the same 24 or 35 or 50 players training hard for a couple of weeks ahead of every single competition we take part in. That's insane. That''s the philosophy of other nations who don't have long term programs."

Tournament Director Allison LeFleur congratulated the final 8 who will play for the George Charleston Trophy. "The men from Cassidaigua will have a chance to defend their title, and the team from Abanhfleft will get to atone for their finish from the first BPOC, while Joshenia also will be able to build upon their multiverse resume. We are also excited that first time participants Lisander, Pratapgadh, Qasden, The Transmondian Commonwealth and Velestria have come through to reach the final 8. We are confident that our enthusiastic supporters will turn out for the remaining contests."

Men Quietly Reach The Final,
by Chelsea Dufresne, Concord Heights Times

As a lot of our time resources have been pumped into both the Olympics and the World Baseball Classic, the coverage of the men’s effort in the Baker Park Open Cup has been lacking.
They have proven that they do not really need it, as they went on to go 2-1-0 in the group stage of the event, with the lone blemish being a draw to Xanneria. A female team from Lisander, and a team from Beepee were defeated along the way. The team scored eight goals during the group stage, led by Zack Pierce, who had four of them. Pierce is also a regular on the main World Cup team, a spot that he earned from his great play in the inaugural Baker Park. He’s proven it was not a fluke this time around. He’s clicked well with 22-year old Tyrone Branch, and credits the speed of Branch for being instrumental in getting the team to where it is. “Tyrone can make it happen. He’s speed and ball handling skills are second to none. I know he is young and that we are loaded on the national side at this forward position, but I really hope that CASE gives him at least a long walk when putting together the team for the next World Cup.”

To get to the title game, Cassadaigua dominated Velestria in every which way in the quarterfinals, although the 1-0 end result does not really reflect that dominance. Possession was 72-28 in favor of the Dagans, and goalkeeper Robert Nunez did not officially have to make a save on a shot on target for the entire game. A 17th minute goal by Jorge Cortez was all the team needed. Cortez and Tyrone Branch each smacked shots off the crossbar in the second half that could have blown the game open. The offense scored more in the semifinals, jumping out to a 4-0 half time lead against the Pratapgadh Men. Pierce scored in 6th and 33rd minutes, with Branch getting one in the 20th, and Matthew Donegal, also a reserve on the World Cup team, scoring the 40th minute. The Dagans let their guard down in the second half a bit, and Pratapgadh sliced it to 4-2, but an Austin Morrelli 61st minute goal spoiled the momentum. Cassadaigua went on to win, 5-3.

The championship will see the Dagans look to repeat against the Transmodian Commonwealth of New England. Oddsmakers favor the men in pink to get the win.
