2nd Baker Park Open Cup--CLOSED

The Football Association of the Commonwealth of Baker Park extends an invitation to interested nations to participate in a limited scale tournament, with an opportunity for nations to showcase their otherwise neglected or under-utilized national squads.

Many nations in the multiverse compete at the highest level of football/soccer/hoofball with teams that are integrated on the basis of both gender and/or species; therefore, the FAC and many other national governing bodies lack opportunities for gender/species specific teams to also compete at Senior Level.

The BP Open Cup offers a chance to any nation to enter a single sex team (or a side composed of the opposite sex of your national team; i.e, a women's team if you have an all male NT or vice versa). It can also be a team that constitutes a 'B' International Team (mixed or single sex/species), although entry is not limited to specific criteria.

The FAC will host the event with its Women's National Team

Dependent upon the number of nations that express interest, there will be a group stage with a single round-robin format, followed by a final round that will consist of a further round of matches that will include all participants. The exact format of these matches will be based upon the number of nations participating, but will likely involve a separate single match elimination to determine the top places (1st through 4th, or 5th & 6th) and consolation format that will ensure that all entrants will be guaranteed a minimum number of matches during the competition.

The number of entries will be at the discretion of the organizers, to ensure that the tournament can be completed within a time frame that will not interfere too much with the approaching Baptism of Fire.

The basics:

Scorinating will be the SQIS formula similar to that which will be used for the WC Qualifying and Finals, with the xkorante (additive) style modifiers and a cumulative RP bonus as well as roster bonus. Tie-breaking will be the standard method: HTH result/points, HTH goal differential, (total points for the purpose of determining classification), overall GD, overall goals scored, and coin flip if needed.

As this is not a sanctioned WCC event and the entrants are not participating with ranked sides, there will be no seeding based on relative KPB ranking, other than at the discretion of the Organizing Committee.

OOC note--this is an opportunity for participants to utilize the BPOC for RP storylines that could be the basis for further RP down the line in the WCQ/BoF/WC cycle.

Further information will follow. Any questions can be addressed in this thread.

we would like to join as a tune-up for the WC82 qualifiers. Is that ok? Or should we send our Women's Team?

Either. We had the full range of teams last time. Cassidaigua sent a men's team and Banija sent a women's team b/c those genders didn't have an outlet for showing their ability. Maybe I'll get more restrictive if this tourney continues.

Looking forward to it. This would be the third Association Football tournament The Black Party has competed in. Although I'm not looking forward to writing paragraphs of RP if it's unnecessary.

HOSTING UPDATE!

If we get to 20 entries by 7pm EST on Thursday (0000 GMT Friday), or some point earlier, we will cut off signups and get the tourney started by Monday Feb 4.
I was going to squeeze the group stage into just 3 straight days, but I do understand with the Olympics, WBC, WCoH and other things going on that would be impractical.

Of course the organizers do not impose RP on any nation choosing to participate, in the initial BPOC a couple of nations fared well without doing much RP at all. RP bonuses will be fair, but will not be in the same magnitude used in WCQ/BoF/WC/CoH.

Joshenia gives us 16, and it doesn't look like there will be a rush of last minute entries. As of this moment, 16 will be a go.
