Hello all! With World Cup now completed and we are in a void of some sporting activities, it more than looks like it's time for some handball...again!

As you can figure out, this is the official signup thread for the 21st Handball World Cup. Post here to sign up for the tournament and also to bid to become host. Host bids must include form of scorination, format, and RP grading/bonus; everything else is not necessary, but highly encouraged.

Rukometni Savez Mytanija Host Bid for the 21st Handball World Cup.

The first democratic elections since the end of the Mytanar Conflict and Mytanija’s re-entry to international sporting competition are two signs that Mytanija is changing. The country is moving past the troubles of the past and is attempting to build towards a brighter future. Politicians and the heads of sports governing bodies have agreed that sport has a unique place within Mytanar society and indeed is intrinsic in the psyche of Mytanars, it is a force for good and a force for unity. This is why the Government, in conjunction with the RSM (the Mytanar handball federation), are submitting this bid to host the 21st Handball World Cup.

SCORINATION

The handball function in the latest version of xkoranate shall be used, along with the post-HWC20 rankings compiled by Free Republics. RP bonus will be very generous so that a newcomer should have a reasonable chance of progressing through the tournament and RP bonus will be cumulative throughout the tournament. A one-time roster bonus will be available too and this will be similarly generous.

FORMAT

By my current count we have 18 sign-ups, my aim shall be for 20 or 24 although larger numbers than this can be accommodated quite easily too. The tournament will be run with a double group stage format purely in the interests of doing something a little out of the ordinary and it will hopefully make things interesting for those involved.

20 teams:

Group Stage 1: 4 groups of 5 in a single round-robin format, the top two from each group will progress to Group Stage 2, with group winners being seeded and group runners-up unseeded.
Group Stage 2: 2 groups of 4 in a single round-robin format, the top two from each group will progress to the semi finals.
Semi Finals: Each Group Stage 2 winner plays the runner-up from the other group for a place in the final.

24 teams:

Group Stage 1: 4 groups of 6 in a single round-robin format, the top two from each group will progress to Group Stage 2, with the group winners being seeded and group runners-up unseeded.
Group Stage 2: 2 groups of 4 in a single round-robin format, the top two from each group will progress to the semi finals.
Semi Finals: Each Group Stage 2 winner plays the runner-up from the other group for a place in the final.

The tournament will only be one RL day longer if it is run with the 24 team format.

A 32 team format could also employ the double group stage (GS1: 8x4, top two progressing; GS2: 4x4, top two progressing; then a standard knockout format with the final 8 teams), and would be the same number of RL days as a 20 team format.

Tiebreakers used in each group stage would be, in order: head-to-head results, head-to-head goal difference, head-to-head goals for, goal difference, goals for, a play-off game.

I shall be asking for third-party RP grading and scorination of my own fixtures from Group Stage 2 onwards, should Mytanija get there.

EXPERIENCE
The user behind Mytanija is the same user behind Mytannion and the Mytanar Region and has historically hosted World Lacrosse Championships and NSCF conferences among other things, this will be an attempt to get back in the groove of hosting after a hiatus.
