Space doing everything perfect

Space return yet again to the Sequoia Conference which even though the Celestial Conference might make sense actually its a good thing for the Academy of Space to be in the conference of large trees now that the Terrestrial Acclimation Academy is also participating. While the Academy of Space is a former team of the championship match it is not the same for the Acclimation Academy who are just trying to get their footing.

It is now halfway through the season for the NSCF and unlike last time around when the Academy of Space were trailing Gyan-Johnson University of Aggrey-fynn land, there is no Gyan or Johnson to contest this season. Instead the only competition equal to the Academy of Space is Akers State University. Of course by equal we mean almost the same as the Academy of Space has already beaten Akers State University. The other teams in the Sequoia Conference pose no challenge for the top two teams who will likely have to decide the fate of the conference when they meet for a second and final match later in the season. Until then it will be wondering how many points can be acquired for any tiebreak scenario.

The Academy of space and the terrestrial acclimation academy are in discussion with the Imperial Military Academy of Vangaziland in regarding a match during the non-conference schedule of the calendar. If a match is agreed it will occur on week three of the non-conference schedule.

As the Terrestrial Acclimation Academy is having a goal to Acclimate terrestrially they are also going to consider all opportunity to play non-conference opponents and will actively pursue this chance. If any university does not have their non conference schedule secured, the Terrestrial Acclimation Academy will arrange to play in your stadium as long as it is terrestrial in nature and not extra.

The Academy of Space has the best points differential in the Sequoia Conference at +128 points and they are going to hope to continue good form to claim a championship.

Go Astronauts!

QB Ifeatu Chineze Wins Start in a Suprising Move, Richardson Soars as a Result

In a game where the defense had one of its worst outing of the season, allowing three touchdowns and a field goal, the outcome was never in doubt. In a controversial move, Richard Steinheil benched electric playmaker Alton McNair in favor of Banijan #1 overall recruit, Ifeatu Chineze. Before the game, he was very clear about his intent, stating that he felt that Chineze, who struggled to piece together the college game and master the playbook, had progressed enough to the point where his ability as a passer made him the clear choice. And no one can really argue after he put up 277 yards and four touchdown passes throughout the game, with no turnovers and a stunning 77.4% completion mark after throwing the football 31 times, connecting on 24 of those attempts. He didn't show the escapability of McNair, taking three sacks, but he flashed the ability to buy time by manipulating the pocket.

Alton McNair, on the sideline, was visibly upset by what was apparently a decision made just hours before the game. Alton had thrown for eight touchdowns and run in another three this season, but had also thrown four interceptions. Chineze, who is the superior passer of Richardson's three quarterbacks, didn't look entirely comfortable throwing on the run, or escaping the pocket, leading to a few of his incomplete passes, but was stellar in his starting debut in the NSCF.

In the first quarter, after New Telford State drove down the field for a touchdown, even the fans in an away crowd were suprised when Chineze, and not McNair, took the field, guiding his team down to a first score to draw it to a tie, and doing the same on his next drive. Granted, he had a good amount of help from a running game that finally managed to produce decent numbers, with freshman Vice Jackson getting the bulk of the work and playing sixty percent of the snaps. Jackson would finish with a career high in carries, 19, and ninety two yards rushing to go along with his first NSCF touchdown. He also caught four passes, scoring on one of them, for twenty two yards. Both of his touchdowns came in the first half, and while wide receiver Kieran Kweo-Atkison hauled in only forty yards on five catches, his first time failing to score a touchdown or record at least 115 yards this season, the star receiver seemed to be at peace with his statline, knowing that he had been matched up with a good corner and that Chineze's confidence in his arm meant that he would find the open man and give him a chance.

The leading receiver tonight was actually the catalyst of the near-comeback against Cold Hill, Calvin Hale, with 7 receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown that went for twenty nine yards, and it's worth noting that freshman tight end Austin Jackson hauled in his third touchdown on the year to go along with a three catch performance in which he edged out red-zone threat Gunther Krause by ten snaps.

Overall, great outing for the Governors offense, which seems to have finally found its groove atop the shoulders of Vice Jackson III and in the arm of Banijan Ifeatu Chineze.

Even more notably: This win means that Richardson, at 5-1, is atop the standings of the Big 8 after Cold Hill lost a trap game against TN State University, who were previously winless. The Buffalo seem to be buying into their own hype, which proved to be their downfall two years ago, without a true leader in that locker room of the likes of Angelo Gordon.

In that one, as Cold Hill fell behind quickly and forced to pass, Hue Ross didn't see a lot of playing time, only getting 11 carries, while Caleb Katterfield, normally their third down and change of pace back, racked up 6 catches for a hundred yards and a touchdown to go along with 12 carries for 80 yards. Thorn Davis had an up and down performance, hitting 27/47 for just over three hundred yards and a pair of touchdowns, but he also turned the ball over twice, giving him 15 touchdown passes compared to 5 interceptions on the year. One of those picks was taken back for a first quarter touchdown.

If they want a shot at this conference, Cold Hill will have to drag Richardson down in the Tundra, the Buffalo's stadium, and do it decisively. It is worth mentioning that, last season, each team won the game in the other's stadium, so if the trend continues then Richardson could pull off this upset and take the reigns in the conference at 6-1, with their only true remaning competition being the newcomer Tecumseh University, who just refuse to go away and keep fighting to give themselves a chance at this Big 8 title.

XPI 29–6 PCR After the shocking loss to Avalon, which many people said felt like a dream, XPI pulled away with its stingey defense and ground pound run game to go 7-8 on red zone trips and win 29-6 against a reeling NPCRU team. While Romeo Reynolds may not have had his best day rushing (He only had 175 yards and 1td), he still contributed and significant contributions from Terrence White and Jamie Lawrence lead the Big Blue to a total of 321 yards Rushing. Serge Vivek once again lead a huge defensive surge (pun intended). For NPCRU the 7 man line did hold up in the dry as much as it did in the rain leading to several redzone stops. XPI was able to hold QB Márcus Caeso Petrescu to only 220 total yards though as that helped keep PCRU to one TD and a missed XP.

DAU 57–13 PVR - DAU seems to be back on track, a dominant victory in the dry versus the same Portvestir team that held them to a near season low 16 points in week one. Once the dry weather came the air attack was let loose on the poor Portvestir team as Austin Willis once again could play pitch and catch at will and he really did play pitch and catch attempted 68 passes, completing 52 of them for 592 yards and 6tds. Lay Tennbar had a 150 yards on 8 catches and Marvin Hines had 191 yards on 6 catches. Both players got two TDs. Frankie Valone had 5 talckles and three INTs one of them returned for a TD. DAU looks to once again to be on the upturn.

Week 6 @ People's Isle

Postby One Jamaica » Thu Oct 11, 2018 11:42 am

Week 6 started with a bang when Joshua Jolly returned the opening kick-off 97 yards for his first kick return touchdown of the season. Coming into the week with momentum from their monster performance the previous week scoring a team record 60 points, Tecumseh University seem ready and on the push for the conference championship. After the kick return touchdown, the defense came out dedicated to continue to show why they are the best 11 on defense in all of NCSF. After giving up two first downs to People's Isle offense on their first possession, the defense got things rolling with a Kahlil Townsend sack on first down. With the opposing offense in a 2nd and long they are forced to pass not wanting to give the ball up early on. On second down with the QB in shotgun, Tecumseh played a simple cover 2 man to man coverage. With the defensive backs locking up their receivers and the QB with nowhere to throw he is brought down for a second straight sack by freshman defensive end Antonio Wellington. Now 3rd and 25 and the defense think they are just going to go with a run to secure the ball and punt it away, the QB runs a play action and gets pressured by Derrick McFadden and is forced to pass and his pass is picked off by Julian Cole and returned 5 yards. The score will be 17-0 at the end of the first frame.

Talented Ray 'Quan Smith did what he did best tossing for 486 yards 2 TD and surpassed 100 yards rushing for the second game in a row. Felix Hawthorn had another solid performance and continue to get touches. His 5.2 yards per carry makes him a focal point of the offense and leads the team in carries (111) and yards (632). He punched in his second touchdown on the season from the opponents 32 yard line on a run up the middle breaking 4 tackles on his way. Posting their second shutout of the season and winning both home and away match ups against People's Isle by a combined score of 60-7 Tecumseh is a runaway train going into week 7 against TN University. With a total a 90 points scored in the last two weeks, Tecumseh looks to defeat TN University again but in better fashion than the 3 points the put up in week 2.

Still sitting in third place in the conference at 4 wins and 2 losses, they are behind Cold Hill University who lost to the previously win less TN University because Cold Hill has the head to head match up winning the first match up. As Richardson continues to look dominate at 5-1, Tecumseh players and fans know they need to win out the season for any chance of winning the conference. Four games left in conference play, the top three schools in the Big 8 could have a different look by the time non-conference games come around.

Depzman Scouted By Vannish National Team

Freshman quarterback Josh Depzman is leading the University of Auster to a 5-1 record. He's making waves across the Vannish Empire for leading perenially hapless UA to its best NSCF record. Auster has only managed two 2-8 seasons prior to NSCF 19. The Royalhawks already have more wins than they previously had overall combined.

Defense has been at the helm of Auster's success. Depzman still plays a pivotal role at the head of the offense. The Royalhawks recently beat Caltonic tech 20-0. Again, we see just how major of a role defense played. Depzman still picked up two touchdowns and brought the team into field goal range twice.

"The thing that stands out about Josh is that he's just a freshman. He also doesn't have a lot of weapons on his side." Kenton Tillford, Coach of the Vannish National Gridiron Team spoke about the NSCF on the talk show 'Last Minute'. "Let's start with what he does have. He has blocking. It gives him the time he needs to make plays." Auster has a great deal of upperclassmen on the O-line. A talented and strong freshman plays center. Although Julian Bergman is just 18, he is a blue chip line prospect who outshined upperclassmen in Auster's domestic season. The other linesmen may be mid level pros at best.

"Anthony Kelder is a decent back", Tillford continued. "He's far from being one of the top backs in the NSCF. He's a light speed back. All it takes to stop him is a tough defense. Auster is smart in their playcalling to make the most of their running game. Josh is also such a threat that he takes pressure off the backs."

Tillford also spoke on the recievers. "I like Jaykae Sadler", said the national team's coach. "He's a good leaper, but he's pretty short. It's not like he's a 6'4 jumper. Ackerlund is really fast. He doesn't have the best hands. He's really stepped it up for the NSCF though. I think a lot of that is Depzman's passing."

The second option receiver in Nicklas Ackerlund had dropped quite a few passes this season. Luckily, Auster has overcome and prevailed despite this. "Then you've got Kasper Adelskolde", said Tillford. "He's not exactly starting pro caliber. Josh has still gotten him receptions."

"Deandre Waugh has been a big target at TE", the coach continued. "He's looking a step slow. Waugh is easy to cover, though he also likes to leap."

The show's co-host Chip Maydress speculated that the mix of those offensive weapons with Auster's tough defense were enough to warrant their success thus far.

Imperial Military Academy's players spoke on Depzman's rise to prominence. The Vannish media was especially curious about IMA QB Charles Marlon's reaction. Marlon took Imperial to 4-2. Auster's only loss came to the IMA Rangers. "I don't think its fair that people say I have more weapons", Marlon told a reporter.

Marlon's 1st string TE Bert Madland and 1st option receiver Benny Banks were both scouted as having good hands. Mason Knightsen was seen as a slightly better prospect than Anthony Kelder. Imperial's O-line was younger but bigger and more athletic.

Imperial's last Quarterback, Don Adebaygo is the backup QB for the national gridiron team. There's talk that Depzman could skip Adebaygo on the depth chart if he were brought in.

"I'd just like to see what Depz could do with pro level players", Tillford said about Auster's QB.

Of course, current national team QB Dan Bundison wasn't happy with all the rumors. "The kid's too young to handle the pressure of the World Bowl." Bundison took the Royals to the first round of the playoffs in World Bowl XXXV, where they lost to Kaboomlandia 23-7.

"Depzman is just the cool new thing", Bundison continued. "I trust the coaches will do the right thing and stick with experience. We're getting the program on the right track. It would be hasty to throw some 18 or 19 year old onto the big stage."

The national team's 1st option receiver Parker Vangaard seemed okay with the thought of a new quarterback. "If the team went that way, I'd be ready for it. Josh looks like, not just a talented passer, but a smart leader. Bundison is my guy. Depzman might be the future."

Both Imperial and Auster hope to close out the group stage with timely late season play.

Week 7 vs TN University/ Playoff Push Preview

Postby One Jamaica » Fri Oct 12, 2018 9:39 am

Playoff Preview

Image

The student section for Tecumseh University is at full force during every home game.

With their late season playoff push in full swing winning three straight, Tecumseh University moves up to second in the conference and is in a three way tie for first place. With two of their final three games against conference power houses, Cold Hill University and Richardson University, who are the other two teams at 5-2, the excitement is on high to see who wins the conference. Head coach Philip McCreary is pleased with his team on how they stepped up to the plate and taking care of business after losing two in a row. "These guys love the hype. They don't need motivation. Them showing up for practice every week is all the motivation they need to get to the playoffs. Ray is a natural leader in the locker room, the guys love him. He unites his teammates and they all seem they want to play for him." Freshman quarterback Ray Quan Smith is a fan favorite since he was announced as the starting quarterback. At all 4 home games Smith had the 90,000 that seated themselves in Rick Tecumseh Stadium rocking with highlight after highlight. The athletic department has already considered Rick Tecumseh Stadium as one of the toughest places to play. Come playoff atmosphere you can expect opposing offenses should and will have trouble moving the ball. Since losing their first game to both Cold Hill and Richardson University, Tecumseh's road to the playoffs is a bit more rough than the two teams mentioned. They need to win both match ups coming up week 8 and 9 if they want any chance to making it to the playoffs.

RB Felix Hawthorn scores his 3rd rushing touchdown of the season on a 23 yard run in the third quarter vs TN University.

Week 7 saw game 2 of Tecumseh and TN University, with the Raiders winning the first meeting on the road 3-0 on a loan field goal by kicker Peter Zolteck. Tecumseh was never in doubt of losing this game as their defense is first in the conference and the offense starting to click on all cylinders. Derrick McFadden continues to be dominate in the trenches securing 3 more sacks in this game with one of them being a safety in the 3rd quarter. The Raiders were leading 14-10 with 6 minutes remaining in the 3rd when it seemed automatic, the defense went into beast mode holding TN to 89 total offensive yards, 5 sacks and 3 turnovers for the rest of the game. Smith had another great outing as he builds up more steam on his run for offensive player of the year. He tossed two more touchdowns to bring his season total to (14) and 2 interceptions. DJ Williams puts up his third consecutive 100 yard receiving game as he and Ray are building trust with each other. Williams has become Ray's favorite target as he's lead the team in every major receiving category the last three games as he shows what a threat he can be to opposing defensive backs in the playoffs. He leads in targets (40), receptions (29), yards (403) and touchdowns (4). He's a big body receiver who goes for the ball at its highest point but has a 4.48 forty at 6'5 to allow him to break away in the open field. He's a threat for all defensive backs and will get his yards no matter what you throw at him. Shut down corner Michael Moss has been quit in recent weeks due to the fact that offenses don't throw his way anymore. He was tested this week by TN quarterback and he showed why no one is to throw his way grabbing his 3rd interception of the season. He reads a comeback route perfectly and jumps in front of the receiver just as the ball reaches and picks it off. Michael is always a player to watch week in week out as his side of the field rarely sees the ball.

Tecumseh has a tough match up week 8 when they go on the road to Richardson. This is a must win for the Raiders since they lost the first match up. A Richardson victory will more than likely crush Tecumseh's dream as conference champs their first year. A win will put them in prime position the following week when Cold Hill comes to town in a potential championship decider.

The Tundra
7:00 PM EST
Richardson University Governors @ Cold Hill University Buffalo
Kickoff

Cold Hill University lived up to its name in this one, as did their stadium, the tundra. It was winter in northern Ranoria, and the field was sheathed in a fine layer of snow.

Both teams had come ready for the fight ahead, a game that had conference championship implications on the line, as Richardson's freshman kicker, Nillman Johnson, raised an arm, his arms covered with thick white sleeves, sleeves that most of Richardson's starters seemed to have forgotten, Isaiah Bryce's muscled, powerful arms resting with his hands in his pads while Judas Wolfson swung his own, his dark skin contrasting sharply with the white of both the snow and their uniforms, both defensive mainstays having only their pads and gloves to shield them from the snow, and most of the defense, and many on offense, had followed suit.

And as they kicked off, you can bet your ass that everyone in the stadium, sitting at a cool -6°C, noticed the team that wasn't bundled up, with the home team sporting hoodies under their jerseys and leggings abound, as could only be expected under these conditions.

But when the ball sailed, and linebacker Alexander Carthage crashed into return man Neal Samuel, laying the smaller man out, it was clear that Richardson had come to the winter wonderland to fight, and to earn a conference championship berth.

Image
QB Thorn Davis before taking the snap on the first play from scrimmage

Cold Hill would have a long field if they intended to score on their opening drive, starting on the thirteen yard line, but Thorn Davis didn't appear worried, the dual threat dressed warmly with his hands stuck in a hand warmer, looking to the sideline to take the playcall before he even thought about pulling them out.

Once he did get the play, a deep post, he stepped back, the rest of the team knowing their assignments, and extended his arms, massive, 250 pound frame intimidating to many, but no one on the Richardson football team feared him, not in this situation.

Davis took the snap and looked deep, not bothering to go through his reads, and fired the ball to his equally towering wideout Jarrett Hauptmann, who snagged the ball over Millard Johnson, but the corner's failed attempt at a tackle left just enough time for Judas Wolfson to strike.

The safety was a ballhawk, a general playmaker, but his game was as an enforcer, and he showed it here, lowering his shoulder into Hauptmann's ribcage and blasting him, a hammer-blow that could be heard across the stadium, echoing through the seats. That sickening crunch was enough to distract the watching audience, for the most part, from the ball that Hauptmann lost.

But not for long.

Isaiah Bryce was there, at his own forty, to recovery the fumble, shedding a pair of tackles with his brute strength before running around hulking offensive tackle Kevin Eakin. He made it to Cold Hill's 35 before he was dragged down by a combination of a nice form tackle from running back Hue Ross and a hard blow from quarterback Thorn Davis, but he didn't stay down long, shrugging off the contact and roaring into the largely hostile crowd, a crowd who's combined sound didn't match his own after that play.

And Richard Steinheil wasn't one to let that sort of momentum go to waste. Ifeatu Chineze wasn't the most mobile quarterback, but he was athletic enough, at least, to pull this one off. It was a bit of a trick play, but it was one that could work, provided that they had enough pass protection to pull it off. The sudden change of possession, along with the near-silence of the crowd, meant that this was probably their best opportunity, and he planned on taking it. But he needed one play to set it up first.

Because Chineze wasn't the only player, listed as a quarterback, who was getting the start.

Out wide was Alton McNair, with Hale in the slot, Atkison manning the other spot, and Vice Jackson III was the man in the backfield as Ifeatu Chineze took a one step drop, firing quickly to a slanting Alton McNair, who took it in for six yards, and that was all they needed, the defense no longer suspecting the exact play that was about to happen.

On that second dropback, Chineze pump-faked deep, McNair coming around the side just as he handed it off behind him to the other quarterback in what looked to be a draw play, but the eleven men on defense who thought that were dead wrong.

McNair pulled back, Vice Jackson, the running back, wide open down the seam, and fired a dart to the powerful, eighteen year old runner, who took it in in a somewhat awkward fashion, as if he weren't a seasoned receiver, but he had more than enough time to adjust and run straight through safety Marcell Salley on his way to the end zone, his arms, like those of most of the football team, bare against the cold as he let the ball smash into the snow-covered turf, the home crowd stunned, now, into utter silence with more than thirteen minutes remaining in the first quarter.

This wasn't how it was supposed to go, and after Cold Hill only managed to pile on twenty nine yards despite running behind offensive tackle Kevin Eakin, those yards stretching out over ten plays, and winding down the quarter to under eight minutes left to go. It was, however, enough to kill the momentum that Richardson had going on the sideline to some extend, leading to them, to, punting on the next drive after the offensive line was completely overwhelmed by Cold Hill's ferocious front seven. They managed to move the ball down the field, it was only due to Vice Jackson's ability to run over a man at the line of scrimmage...and catch a few checkdown passes from Chineze. The drive ended when Chineze took a third down sack from Earnest Longhorn, what would be one of many from him.

And late in the second, after both teams stalled out once more, the Cold Hill offense came alive.

Thorn Davis exploded, running wild on the next drive, hitting four of his seven passes...and running once for thirty yards, one of those passes hitting tight end Jabari McNair on an underneath route that he took five yards out. McNair's specialty, however, was run after catch. He wasn’t a particularly tall tight end, perhaps undersized, at 6’2”, but he could blow through tackles like the power back that he’d been in school, and that's exactly what he did.

Alexander Carthage and Denton Pillar were solid linebackers, good players to man the flanks while Isaiah Bryce took the middle of the field, but Jabari McNair was a powerful man, and an athletic one, leaping over Carthage's dive and stiff-arming Pillar as he charged up field, shedding a tackle from freshman corner Spencer Houston on his way to the end zone.

And from then on, it was a ball game. Richardson didn't leave enough time on the clock for Cold Hill to do anything at the end of the half, Davis simply taking knee with it all tied up at 7-7.

Overall, it was an impressive showing from Richardson, their strong defense only allowing a single score to this point, but there was only so much they could do in the second half when the game started with a three and out, Ifeatu Chineze tossing it to Calvin Hale, who was simply unable to get to the sticks after a second down sack.

Cold Hill wasn't going to be contained much longer though.

On the back of seven carries by Hue Ross, four by Caleb Katterfield, and one by Thorn Davis, the Buffalo offense marched down the field, and even if they were only able to get a field goal out of the twelve play, sixty three yard drive besides that chip shot, it was enough to take the lead.

And at that point, having already given up a whopping seven sacks throughout the first three and a half quarters, Richardson decided to run the ball, to stave off the pass rush and to try and move the ball down the field. It worked for a moment, Vice Jackson able to break a few tackles and get twenty yards on his first four carries, but was slowed up after on the next two, when he was subbed out, having already racked up 20 carries for 88 yards on the day. But Elijah Sampson wasn't good enough to pick up his slack, and they were, once again, forced to punt.

The defense had gotten some rest. Not enough to stave off the assault that was coming, but enough to at least present a challenge in the way, with Isaiah Bryce bursting through the line on their first snap, dragging down Thorn Davis just as he got the snap and forcing the ball out. Hue Ross was there to grab it, but he didn't get far, Emmanuel Miller wrapping him up behind the line of scrimmage, beating Kevin Eakin to do so.

After that, there was little to stop the offense as they drove fifty one yards in seven plays, into the ten yard line, and this time it was Douglas Starling who came screaming off the edge, the 250 pounder dragging Thorn Davis down for the sack as he was rolling out, a seven yard loss that looked to force the Buffalo to knock in another field goal. Unfortunately for that Governor defense, Davis, despite not being a dead-accurate passer, was more than capable of hitting a 6'5" Jarrett Hauptmann in the corner of the end zone, floating it over the head of Xavier Yannick-Lotz, who was a solid corner, but a half of a foot of height difference was just too much for him to overcome.

Image
QB Thorn Davis about to throw a touchdown pass in the third quarter against Richardson University

The crowd, seeing this, finally got into it, the Tundra roaring when the Governors took the field, deafening crowd noise disrupting the play-calling system that Richardson had, a professional-esque system with various calls and terminology, rather than a system based on images, pictures, and boards on the sideline. It was just one more advantage for the home squad, and one that Richard Steinheil, with a grimace, noticed quickly. Fortunately, he had devised a few simple calls to make in these situations on his quarterback's arm band, but whether or not the team would execute was up to them.

He held up a single finger, the first of twelve plays on Ifeatu Chineze's armband, along with the other two quarterbacks. It wasn't much, a hand off to Vice Jackson right up the middle, and it was, effectively, their hurry-up offense, but it was enough to at least get the ball moving and hopefully ease the deafening crowd noise.

After another five plays, and twenty nine yards, the spectators had died down a bit, and that was when they decided to strike. They'd run the ball four times in that span, and done it well. So when Chineze faked a handoff and dropped back with seven men in protection, the defense bit on it hard, a defender tackling Elijah Sampson, who had subbed in, thinking that he had the ball while Chineze dialed up his man and fired deep, letting the ball sail forty three yards and putting as much air on it as he could to give Kieran-Kweo Atkison time to get under the ball. And, even with Klara North on him, he was able to go up and over, easily beating the man coverage for a Governor touchdown that drew the game a bit closer at 17-14.

Image
The Governor offense just before the scored on a 43 yard touchdown pass

By this point, Ifeatu Chineze was up over 260 passing yards, and had just thrown his ninth touchdown of the season, but Thorn Davis was having a game that might've been his best of the season, stepping up with 342 passing yards and a pair of touchdown passes.

And now, in the fourth quarter, he was forced to take command of this offense once again, with Hue Ross being bottled up against a Richardson front that was stacked against a clock-milking ground game.

So, at that, he took the reigns, wide open pass after wide open pass, not giving Richardson time to adjust with a hurry up offense. It might leave a good amount of time on the clock, but being up 10 points would be worth it in the end, as the star quarterback hit Hauptmann for the second time tonight on a thirty yard streak. A score that got the them up to 24-14, and that would, ultimately, be the final score in this one. With three minutes left to play, it just didn't seem like the Governors were out it quite yet.

And while they managed to mount a bit of a drive, when Chineze dropped back, and on what was supposed to be a quick hitter, to get the first down and stop the clock, Chineze decided to go for it all. It was a bold move, a gunslinger's call and one that anyone with a great deal of confidence in their arm one have thrown. Well, anyone without a great deal of experience. Richard Steinheil's lips tightened when he saw the ball fly, because he knew what was going to happen. He'd seen it with Derek McNair, so many years ago, and he'd known it would happen at some point. It was a hero throw. When it hit, and when it worked, the quarterback was just that. When it missed?

Well, they couldn't blame the quarterback for taking a shot.

And when it was just that, a shot, an overshot, to be exact. Kieran Kweo-Atkison damn near managed to reach out for the ball, stretching his long frame to haul it in, but Clarence von Arris was right there, the athletic freak of a cornerback picking off the pass and going down immediately, but that was all that their team needed, with about a minute left in the ballgame, and Richardson without a timeout, that was all there was to it.

A couple kneels, and it was over. Richardson had taken their second loss of the season, and Cold Hill was back on top of the conference with a sweep of their rivals, having dragged them down in 3 of their last four contests.

XCAA news? In my NSCF blog? More likely than you think
http://www.xcaagoblog.com

Well there's been big news in Xannerian college football and none of it has to do with the games we saw today. The XCAA the governing body of collegiate sports has announced that they would be sending Xannerian schools to the NSCF if possible. With the rampant success of XPI and DAU, both of whom left the XCAA, it was thought the sports body would be more at odds with the two teams since they left without much notice but apparently there have been talks with the XCAA about them playing a bigger role in the NSCF. There are also rumors swirling around that DAU wanted back in. Though they were 6-1 they had injuries and sloppy play so this might have something to do with it.

Meanwhile in the actual games, XPI cruised to a 27-10 win over hapless Damushito and DAU slugged out a muddy 16-10 win Avalon, or at least we think they did, I'm still a bit fuzzy on that game.

Richardson v Tecumseh Doesn’t Live Up to Excitement

Coming into this one, a pair of 5-2 squads that were each part of a three way tie for the conference championship were each looking to knock the other off. The established Richardson Governors and the newcomer Tecumseh Raiders, who had been a surprise this season, were to square off in Dietrich Stadium.

Unfortunately for everyone, besides the Governors, that is, this game didn’t come close to meeting those expectations.

It was never close, with Richardson scoring seemingly at will, putting up 29 points in the first half alone, and Tecumseh failing to get on the board until early in the third quarter, when they picked off Ifeatu Chineze, who played the entire game.

One interesting development, however, was that Alton McNair took the field for seventeen snaps in this one...and didn’t throw the ball once.

McNair lined up for fourteen of those snaps at wide receiver, and caught three passes, as well as three at running back, where he had one rush for two yards and caught another pass. It appears that, while Richard Steinheil has acknowledged that Chineze is the better quarterback of the two, he doesn’t want to waste the electric talent of McNair, mostly lining him up in the slot with Kieran Kweo-Atkison and Calvin Hale out wide.

Those three receivers would combine to haul in 23 catches for 289 yards and four of the Governors’ eight touchdowns on the day. Ifeatu Chinese’s totals, however, were much greater, the star quarterback popping out 431 yards and five touchdown passes to one interception on 49 attempts, only missing on ten of those throws. It was a career day for the young passer from Banija, who undoubtedly had developed chemistry with fellow Banijan Star Kieran Kweo-Atkison.

The other three touchdowns? That was the big surprise. A Richardson running game that has been putrid all season finally fell away, with freshman runner Vice Jackson III getting a whopping 34 carries, 14 of those coming in the fourth quarter, and producing a 172 yard, three touchdown outing while also hauling in five passes for thirty yards to break two hundred yards from scrimmage for the first time in his career.

It’s surprising that the Governors’ most dominant performance this season would come against such a quality opponent in Tecumseh, with the defense racking up five sacks and four turnovers as well. Two of those turnovers came off of Judas Wolfson’s fifth interception of the season and star linebacker Isaiah Bryce forcing a fumble hat he recovered, but a great deal of credit can be given, of course, to Richard Steinheil, who finally waded his way through the controversies that have plagued the team this season.

At 6-2, now, all Richardson needs to do is win their final two contests against the Big 8 to secure their 3rd conference title in four years, and with the way stars like Wolfson (49 tackles, 3 sacks, 5 INT, 1 FF) and Bryce (89 tackles, 5 sacks, 1 INT, 3 FF) are playing on defense, it seems completely doable. Meanwhile, wide receiver Kieran Kweo-Atkison, whom we’ve mentioned a couple times already, is still the backbone of this passing attack, with 89 catches, 1,068 yards, and 9 touchdowns through five games. He’s averaging over 8 catches, a touchdown, and 130 yards per game, with only two contests seeing him finish with under 115 yards this season. Ifeatu Chineze is paying great football right now, but there is no doubt as to who holds the title of the best player on this offense.

Cold Hill Dominates in Shutout Win over New Telford State

It wasn’t one of the high-scoring affairs that we’ve come to expect out of the Buffalo this season, but a win is a win, and the defense was dominant in this one, a promising showing that included the squad’s second ten-sack performance this season to go along with two turnovers.

The Buffalo started with the ball, and drove down to get a passing touchdown, but after that, they were held scoreless, despite moving the ball, until the fourth quarter, failing on a pair of fourth down attempts and turning the ball over once on a fumble from wide receiver Tim Griebel.

It was painful to watch, but the second half told a different story, with a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter coming after Thorn Davis hit his 20th passing touchdown of the season in the third.

After that score, the offense became very ball-control oriented, with the Buffalo scoring on two of their final three drives, both field goals, and shutting down New Telford State on their own late opportunities.

Overall, while it was a concerning performance from a normally explosive offensive unit, only totaling 327 yards and 20 points, the defense looked stellar, particularly through linebacker Jakeem Butler, the team’s centerpiece. Butler totaled 17 tackles, a career high, while sacking the quarterback twice and hauling in an interception. Three more sacks came from the team’s best pass rusher, Earnest Longhorn, who has been a bright spot this season. He isn’t the player that Angelo Gordon was, not displaying nearly the same ability to stop the run, but he can, and has, at least replace a good chunk of his pass-rush production.

Richardson Moves to 7-2 in Tough Win over People’s Isle

After last week’s offensive explosion, week 9’s performance was, admittedly, a bit of a letdown.

Richardson’s offense was completely unable to move he ball to start it off, a People’s Isle team that had come in as a heavy underdog managing to hold them to 60 yards of offense in the first half to pour salt on the wound of the score after the opening segment, 3-0. The underrated squad managed to sack Ifeatu Chineze twice, and pick him off once as time expired in the first 15 minutes, and Richardson quickly grew restless after that troubling start.

With momentum, and field position, on their side after the turnover, People’s Isle marched down thirty yards in four plays, strong safety Judas Wolfson making a goal line tackle on their second. The third snap saw Isaiah Bryce burst though the line for a two yard loss, but what looked like a second goal line stand was quickly turned into a 10-0 mark on the scoreboard off of a play action pass.

Down 10-0, now, the Governors drove down, and managed to get on the board with a 39 yard field goal, but when their opponent did the same on two consecutive drives while holding them to that line score in the first half, it didn’t look nearly as good as it had at first.

16-3. This wasn’t the kind of game they’d been hoping to play, and at this rate it wasn’t looking good, with People’s Isle holding the momentum and Richardson looking tired and stagnant.

With the ball in the second half, however, the Governors looked to change the tone, and drove down the field, Ifeatu Chineze hitting a pair of beautiful throws to get them into the red zone before he dropped back and fired one over the top to his top wideout, Kieran-Kweo Atkison, who leapt over the defender to haul in the touchdown pass, putting them within striking distance at 16-10. The defense, now, only allowing nineteen yards before Douglas Starling came hot off the edge for one of his two sacks to force a third and long. And while at first it looked as if People’s Isle had converted, Judas Wolfson had other plans, leveling their recover to force a fumble that he recovered, and nearly scored on, getting to the seven yard line before he was forced out of bounds while fighting for yards.

Now, inside the ten with a first and goal, Richard Steinheil ran a play action pass, reasonable when the defense was stacked against the run, but Chineze, forcing the ball to big tight end Austin Jackson, pulled the trigger to quickly, erasing the defense’s courageous effort with his second interception of the day.

Two more drives came and went for both teams, and 3 points for Richardson was all their was to show for it, the game tight now at 13-16, but still in Peopel’s Isle’s favor going into the fourth quarter.

Of course, by then, they’d managed to get into the red zone, the Governor defense with their backs against the wall and hoping to get a stop. It was as good a time as ever to blitz come third down, strong safety Judas Wolfson hurdling the center and coming down on the quarterback, who lost the ball immedietely. They were able to recover, but the freakish play from Richardson’s enforcer went for a nine yard loss. And who else to block the field goal than that same safety?

With twelve minutes left to play, down in the ball game, Ifeatu Chineze managed to engineer a scoring drive late, going 4/6 for 47 yards to get into the red zone. The drive stalled, but with the team’s third field goal of the day, the game was tied up at 16-16 with 9 minutes left.

The Governor defense, however, was exhausted. They had played over 90 snaps to this point, and it showed as People’s Isle ran nine times for fifty two yards before they finally dropped back to pass. Slot corner Spencer Houston, who was nothing less than a speed demon, got burnt.

And their quarterback, seeing a one on one matchup with a safety, threw it up.

Unfortunately, he threw it to the wrong safety.

Judas Wolfson, who was one of the meanest sons of bitches on the field, snagged the call out of the reciever’s hand, coming down with his second forced turnover of the game and going down in the end zone.

The touchback gave the Governors the ball at the twenty, and they drove, Chineze hitting a few throws to get them to the forty before a ten yard run from Vice Jackson, clock ticking, now, with three minutes to play.

And Chineze, who had authority, like any Richardson quarterback, to call audibles, did so for his first time, seeing the deep, off coverage that was favoring the right side of the field, where Kieran Kweo-Atkison was our wide and Calvin Hale in the slot, along with Austin Jackson at tight end, Alton McNair, who’d only lined up at receiver in three games this year, on the left.

So when he changed the play, he brought Jackson into the slot next to McNair, a linebacker following him, which revealed a man coverage look, and he pulled the trigger.

It was a quick-hitting play that took advantage of his back-up’s insane speed and athleticism, McNair stepping behind Austin Jackson on a quick screen and charging upfield. He made one man miss quickly, the secondary forced to take extreme angles before they finally dragged him down at the nineteen, a thirty one yard catch and run virtually sealing the win.

But they hadn’t won just yet, as Ifeatu dropped back, failing to see the blitz this time, and was sacked for a six yard loss. Shaken after the big hit, he stood, and Steinheil, after giving him the play call, signaled to let the clock run for a moment.

The next play sealed it. Expecting pass, the defensive line bit hard on a draw, and Vice Jackson bounced quickly to the outside, a pair linebackers blitzing the left edge, and turned upfield, hurdling over the last remaining defender in the second level and continuing his sprint, showing off impressive acceleration. He had one man left to beat asthe clock expired, and reached out his hand, a vicious stiff-arm driving the would-be tackled into the dirt as Jackson rolled into the end zone, leaping to his feet and slamming the ball into the dirt with a war cry.

The extra point was nothing but a formality after that, of course, the 23-16, hard fought victory sealed. It didn’t go as planned, but it goes in as a mark in the W column, regardless of the way it played out. And the touchdown, a fitting one, went to the Governor’s breakout star this season, Vice Jackson having now hammered in 4 touchdown runs in two weeks, and adding one on a trick play through the air. He’s also rushed for 305 yards in the last two contests on 65 carries, 31 of those totes coming this week along with 133 yards of rushing offense.

He wasn’t, however, the most productive skill position player today. That honor goes to the engine of this offense, wideout Kieran Kweo-Atkison, who hailed in a whopping 16 catches for an even 180 yards and a touchdown. He, along with Alton McNair and Dylan Tweed, who each caught a pass for 31 and 21 yards, respectively, was the only reason the governors had a passing offense tonight, as Calvin Hale, the team’s promising number two wideout, and solid tight ends Austin Jackson and Gunther Krause, were all held to shutouts in terms of receptions. If this team’s passing attack doesn’t find balance quickly, we may see more performances like this one in which the offense underperforms.

And of course, one can’t forget the heroic display from Judas Wolfson, who forced two fumbles, recovering one, and had a sack as well as an interception in this game to complement a seven tackle performance. Without his contribution, this game very well may have gone the other way, and Richardson’s conference title hopes could have taken a massive hit.

Imperial Suffers Embarrassing Loss

Imperial got off to a strong start on defense. A few big stops pinned Bowerstone University against their goal line. Imperial has done fairly well when in this position on defense. Although as not as cohesive as Auster's unit, there was surely talent on Defense. Junior Manny Huckstabee broke off the end of the D-line to hit the running back behind the line.

IMA was on the board with two points. Knightsen couldn't start the run game and Imperial's first drive stalled. Imperial gave up a touchdown on their next defensive stand. The score was a big pass and seemed to take the heart out of IMA's defense.

Imperial scored just before the end of the 1st. Knightsen made a 7 yard run, finally finding space in the red zone. He grinded to pick up yards, but they didn't come easy. Imperial's O-line looked pushed to its limit.

IMA scored again before halftime. Charles Marlon linked up with Benny Banks for a 12 yard TD reception. It was a nice play to the corner which saw Banks outrun the defense for the grab. Imperial's next drive was a field goal. After this, the military school would remain scoreless until 3:25 into the 4th.

In this time, Marlon threw 2 interceptions.

He finally linked up with Bert Madland for a leaping 9 yard TD. It wasn't enough for the Vangazi who found themselves outscored 34-26. Marlon would finish with 189 yards at 14 of 25. He threw 2 TD and 2 INT. It was not a pretty skyline, especially considering the loss.

"The season really got to us, as a team", Marlon said. "I personally need to knuckle down and make sure to stay focused."

Knightsen finished with 83 yards and 1 TD. "This wasn't my best game", Marlon admitted. "Bowerstone really brought a tough defensive effort. This isn't a high point for Imperial."

Imperial's defense looked throughly beaten throughout much of the game. They seemed to find a second wind and step up late in the game. Unfortunately, it was a little too late.

"Losing to Bowerstone like this is a setback for our defensive unit", said senior CB Henry Spellbound. "We need to work better together and read the offense."

IMA hopes to close out the season with solid play.

Explorers Take Control
www.XCAAgoblog.com

After XPI's dominating win against Postvestir in which Romeo Reynolds went off for 226 yards and 6TDs, it was thought that they would be a lock to beat DAU. Dau struggled on defense and looked sluggish against a bad Damushito, so it may have come as a surprise when DAU Pulled up and scored 9 times against XPI (5 FG 4 TD). As XPI's ball control offense ate up clock, Willis was forced to score quickly, and he did so, scoring on all nine attempt despite disadvantages in time of possession. Raymar Ward had his first big game of the year catching 9 passes for 152 yards. XPI had Romeo Reynolds run all over DAU, he had 191 on the ground but only one TD. XPI did make it close at the end with a 14 point 4th quarter. More importantly though DAU is in charge of the Big 8 and would need a non Xannerian team to beat them to force a tie.

Will Sunday be The Day for UC again?
Peter Brinson, Naqtional College Football Editor

Last season, the University of the Commonwealth football team were the most popular show in Pleasant Township on Sundays, drawing their biggest crowds during NSCF for those contests.

The final showdown of this season will be the first Sunday night contest at Gleason Field, and it will certainly decide the Mineral Conference title as newcomers Clawtown University will be the opposition. The Wolverines defeated UC in their first meeting in Alenburg 32-17, so the return match on Day 10 of the competition means the winner will be the champion. Both losses for Clawtown have come at the hands of St Leon, so the Warriors have their UAC rivals to thank for the chance to defend their title.

QB Grant Loy has rebounded from that loss, which was his worst performance by far, to lead the Warriors offense similarly to the way he did during the domestic season.

Following the completion of the Clawtown game, the attention will turn to the non-conference schedule, which will see UC take on two of the three opponents they faced a year ago, Richardson University and Northern Moravica University. Unable to come to an agreement with another school, the final week will be an open date before a possible first round playoff matchup; that situation means UC may have 4 straight home games at the tail end of this NSCF season.
