The night was starless - the crescent moon danced through cloud cover every now and again as the ample ambient electric light suffocated any straggling twinkling in the sky. The throbbing hum of a generator reverberated through the alleyway as an otherwise unremarkable man leaned up against the sheet metal siding looked skyward before glancing back down to his phone, idly. He knew that he wasn't going to be able to see anything, but couldn't quite break himself of the habit - he always enjoyed the more remote postings and training, when he could gaze up at the sea of stars without the light pollution drowning it all out. Besides, he liked being able to navigate by them - gave him some small sense of comfort. Still, habit indulged, his attention returned to arranging falling bricks into perfectly aligned columns on his mobile for a little while longer.

It didn't take him long to notice the presence of another man. Dark-skinned and well-built, another person might have been a little intimidated by such a person approaching, but Bernhard showed no signs of being perturbed - or that he knew the other person existed, seemingly immersed in his little game, leaving the other fellow to introduce himself in a faltering tone, asking for his assistance. Bernhard looked upwards from his phone and at directly at the newcomer's face. Though framed differently without the prim and proper army dress uniform from the dossier, the visage he looked into was unmistakably the same. He responded lazily, informing his counterpart that they had closed up shop for the night half an hour ago. In return, he received a well-rehearsed sob story about how their supplies had gone bad through an unfortunate accident and the necessity for something new before the end of the night. His German is still too good for a refugee, thought Bernhard wordlessly, before appearing to sympathize, pulling a set of keys from his belt to unlock the back door. Still, he mentioned, he would hate to have to pull someone back to the shop after hours, but that he might need help moving things in the refrigeration unit - and that he shouldn't technically be doing this, but he'd hate for someone to go hungry. After all, that was the point of being an aid worker, right?

And so the dark-skinned man followed him in as he slid the door to the refrigeration unit open before closing it behind him. The walls around it were by necessity thicker, and each could see each other's breaths. But the cold wouldn't bother either of these trained professionals of the Öffentlichesicherheitsgruppe or ÖSG - Geisenfried's internal security police service. The faltering, unsteady voice of the "refugee" turned into the dedicated and dutiful voice of a soldier, as the undercover agent delivered his intelligence report. Bernhard was the more veteran of the pair - but for this particular operation, going undercover as an aid worker was unlikely to be enough to discover all potential pockets of unrest. And for that, they'd need Geisens of Banijan descent to go even further as fellow refugees, which is how Jakob had been recruited out of the army for this particular undercover role. For now, the situation seemed steady, but far too many of the refugees had held onto strong political allegiances from the Banijan homeland - and given the instability of the situation, without a watchful eye, the potential for some troublesome internal discord was all too obvious. Still, at the moment, as Jakob left Bernhard and the center with a bag full of frozen meat, it seemed there was very little they could do but watch and wait...

Brenecia 1 - 0 Al-Mumtaz
(4-1-4-1) 12 - Calhoun; 18 - Broxham, 5 - Heneghan, 22 - Varney, 19 - Prentice; 4 - Staunton; 15 - Garrard, 14 - Ruskin (13 - Wheeler 80'), 8 - Hartsdown, 16 - Keynes (11 - Ashbrown 71'); 17 - Bremner (9 - Riordan 67')
Goal: Riordan 90+2'

Yeah, yeah, yeah, she'd heard it all before. Clearly a World Cup winning striker shouldn't be (relatively speaking) slumming it at Klyde. Oh, sure, she ran good and did her pressing and stuff, but clearly Riordan was just a stopgap gone too far, yeah? Was that it?
Maybe her two goals on the way to the Final were a fucking mirage, huh?
Anyway, what people didn't realise was it wasn't about the club - it was about the goals. She got one in every two for Klyde. She got one in every two for Brenecia. Maybe if she got a really big gig, she'd get one in every, uh, one!
Eh, whatever. She liked it at Klyde, she liked it ... well, not in Brenecia, that was for sure, but for it, at least. Point was, she could get the ball in the back of the net.

That was exactly what the Patriots needed right now. Right now, they were utterly, utterly floundering, in yet another match that proved the Patriots' depth was thin as paper. Garrard had been flashy but insubstantial, Keynes anonymous, Hartsdown lacking cutting edge, while Niall Bremner... Riordan liked the poor kid well enough, but when was he gonna start sticking the ball in the goddamn net?
So it wasn't much of a shock when he came off for Riordan, and then Ashbrown and Wheeler came on, too. Corby Wheeler... now there was a name. There was a friend. When Corby Wheeler rolls into town, you knew- you knew she was at least going to try things. Not just keep possession while the crowd was being bored to tears. Apart from the away end, which was understandably fucking loving it.

Still, ten minutes later and the shit that had been tried wasn't enough, with a tiring but valiant Al-Mumtazi defence holding firm.
Until? Fucking- BOOM. Wheeler to Garrard, who clipped in a beauty of a cross, and Riordan was there, leaping higher than anyone to drive home the winning header, the last shot of the match. They'd left it late, they'd left it ugly, but the crowd practically exploded with relief. Relief suits Brenecians far more than joy. Brenecians aren't used to joy.
And, sure. It was only at home against unranked Al-Mumtaz, but that didn't matter - Riordan ran the length of the home crowd, threw her shirt into the fans, and choked on the smoke of victory flares. See, that was her secret - here or the World Cup, A-League or H-Ligan, Klyde or wherever the fuck. A goal was a goal was a goal, and she knew how to score them. Anywhere and everywhere.
Players like that never go out of fashion.

I woke up in the middle of a sandy desert, all I could see was sandy dunes as far as the eye could see. I couldn't scream at all, as if something was on top of me but I also couldn't help but awe at the majestic landscape, it was the dawn of a new day, I guess. I walked a fairly long distance in the desert and as soon as it started turning hot, the landscape started shape shifting to a tropical rainforest and it actually started raining, I was relieved but it was only then that I had realised I was trapped inside my own dream.

Suddenly, all colors turned vivid around me and I felt quite dizzy, there was a sandstorm in the middle of the rainforest now as well and I couldn't control it. Out of nowhere, proper clothes spawned, but so did a bunch of behemoths standing in the way, I had no weapon to stop them, so I had to think of a plan fast, before they could just eat me. Ideas were coming inside my head, ideas of running through the behemoths somehow, or wait for them to sleep, but it'd be too late if I followed the latter. So I just started running, it was much faster than in the real world, so I managed going through the behemoths without being caught, I grabbed my clothes and climbed a nearby tree in hopes of not getting found by the behemoths. I was warm inside my clothes, but I knew there were other creatures out there ready to eat me. Dusk quickly replaced dawn, the day was over already, but the sounds of the scary behemoths as well as other beasts in the rainforest wouldn't let me sleep, I was afraid, but in the end I managed to sleep inside my own dream for a while.

Now I was awake in the middle of the night, I couldn't see the starry sky because the trees were blocking it for me, however I managed to walk out of the rainforest with no trouble, something I considered a miracle. The enviroment around me though decided to give me a new challenge, so it shape-shifted once more into a champaign, but this one was pastel pink and filled with massive maroon grass-eating rats. I could see a settlement in the distance, something I could describe of a euphoric feeling took over me, I started shivering and winds started hitting the plains, rain was to follow soon after. The rats ran around like crazy, as if the apocalypse was around the corner, at first I thought it was because of the rain so I started running towards the distant settlement, the more I approached the settlement, which also included approaching the rats, the more I realised that in reality it was just an invasion by tiny elephants that made the rats scared. Soon enough, I was trapped by rats running around me, but I found a small opening and swiftly left the frightened herd. I then started running again towards the settlement, but the more I approached it, the farther it went, it was all just an illusion and then, as soon as I started screaming I woke up to tell you this story. It was a crazy dream and I was happy that I actually managed to wake up, dying in the middle of the desert, or by behemoths in the tropical forest or maybe being stepped over by massive rats doesn't sound like a pleasant experience to me, but managing to escape all these deaths made me feel like some sort of survival expert now and that's beautiful.

OOC: Hey Tinhampton, thanks for pointing I have a 12 man starting XI out, I'll fix it real quick.

World Cup 81 - The Road to FR/Banija

THREE POINTS In the Bag
New Lusitania 1-0 Beepee @ Estádio de Alvalade, Lisboa

Morale was high after the away win, and leading the group, meaning a win here would maintain that good track up. The first match at home was to be played at Alvalade, in Lisbon.
Patríce returned to goal, with Figueiras being given a chance and maintaining Dalot and Cédric. Nevais in Central-Defensive; Mário, Fernandos and Gama in Midfield and Silva further up. Forwards today Silveira and Jota.
The First half was average in the football quality, but kept people interested, starting with Bannan's exceptional shot at 7 minutes. B.Silva put one over the bar, in a shot that never actually seemed like going in at 23 minutes, with Shep denying one of the better pieces of play out there today, made by Gama, Fernandos and Silva, which came from a great side from the opposition.
Dalot was accused of controlling the ball, and most rightfully so, however the referee denied such action and did not give any penalty whatsoever. The beginning forty-five ended with a header from Veera, once again unsuccessful.
At Halftime, Santa Cruz enforced Counter-Attacking football, for the second half as a tactic, keeping the pressure on and the offside trap.
Both teams started the closing forty-five eagerly, playing excellent attacking football, with Patterson almost scoring the opener for the visitors. Gabriel Martins came on for Jorge Mário. Acounterattack for the Quinas, led to a pass to Silveira who passed it back to Silva, giving Shep his only mistake of the game, but also a costly one, as it would be the one to give the winning goal. Substitute Liam almost got a header in to equalise but all in all, New Lusitania managed to keep a grip on the game, with spontaneous sprawls for attacks, albeit all unsuccessful.
The game finished with another three points for the home side, with Beepee unluckily returning home with nothing.
FULL TIME : 1-0

POST-MATCH INTERVIEWS
Interviewer: A goal for you in the Qualifiers, Silva how do you feel about your performance today?
S: We played well, at least well enough for the win, I feel I had a good game today, and the award for best in show gives me great pride. My goal was one of those based more on teamwork and luck than myself and I feel I can't take much credit as I only slotted it in. Um, yeah... All in all a good match, and we are as a team hungry for glory, and to get to the Final Phase.
Interviewer: Thank you, Silva.
S: No problem
(...)
Interviewer: Now here with the coach, comments on the game?
VSC: We got the three points, that was the most important but still I feel we could've done better today.
I: Beepee were looking for a win, how do you see your opponents?
VSC: Well they are at our level of play, and at certain points they looked more convincing than us, truth be told, but sometimes that's just the way it is. Some of those players out there were just great, mainly that defence, sure Shep made the mistake, but he was still one of the best in field for me.
I: Any comment on your current situation?
VSC: I mean, we are currently joint top with Jeckland, separated by a goal. In two games, Beepee was the hardest opponent, and there are more difficult teams, everyone will agree, so we have a lot of work to do, if we want to see ourselves in the finals.
I: Thank you for your presence with us today.
VSC: Anytime.

RATINGS, AWARDS AND OPINIONS
Man of the Match : B.Silva (1 goal, 8.5 rating)
LUS Ratings: Patríce 7.50, Figueiredo 6, Dalot 6, Cédric Silva 6.5, Nevais 8, Mário 7 (Martins 6.2), Fernandos 7.2, Silva 8.5, Gama 8, Silveira 7, Jota 6 . Overall : 6

Experts' Opinion: This game has been a reminder, that it won't be an easy road to travel, the one to the World Cup. Beepee has given a tough time to the Quinas and their overall performance today, despite the win, doesn't inspire confidence for the bigger fish in the group. It's good to see the offside trap being practiced in the training ground, but clearly there's a lot of work to be done.

WAR IS DECLARED; 'No Mercy' for Communist Rebels
September 3, 1961: In the darkest hour of his decades-long reign, Emperor Tizqar III declares that a state of war is in effect in the face of the communist rebellion in the Syria Governorate

ADAB CITY - Sixteen years since the end of the Second World War, the Empire of Adab once again finds itself at war. This time, the opponent is not a foreign foe but seditious and treasonous elements within the Empire's own borders.

In a speech at the Imperial Palace, delivered starting from 00:00 this morning and broadcast on radio and television, Emperor Tizqar III declared that a state of war existed between the Empire and the Adab Workers Movement, which - in His Imperial Majesty's words - had "taken up arms against our nation" and "caused chaos and violence" to reign in the Syria Governorate.

In his speech, which ran for fifty-five minutes, the Emperor pronounced the Workers Movement guilty of "some of the most heinous crimes imaginable by man."

Treason, sedition, blasphemy, kidnapping, corruption, unlawful killing, and destruction of private and public properties were among the crimes pronounced by the Emperor against the movement, which - after many years as a lawful organization in the country and winning one-third of the seats in the legislature of the aforementioned governorate - took up arms against the Empire last December and has since then taken over the cities of Aleppo, Al-Raqqah, and much of the rural parts in between.

"There will be no mercy for treason in our Empire," the Emperor stated. "We shall take back the land that is rightfully ours and restore peace and order to this great country."

The Empire had declared a state of "armed rebellion" in January and committed the might of the Army against the rebels. But with the rebellion going on for longer than expected and showing no signs of slowing down, it was decided that the full involvement of the Adabian people was needed to restore order.

Conscription is now in effect, with all able-bodied Adabian men aged 16 to 45 expected to report to draft stations across the country within the next few days.

"More information" regarding conscription will soon be available, according to the Ministry of Defense in a statement released to radio and television at 02:00 this morning. This includes the period for reporting to draft stations. Failure to report for service at the end of the period will result in imprisonment. Exceptions may be made for certain moral and psychological reasons; however this must be reported directly at the station and will then be evaluated by the ministry.

The Army currently boasts some 100,000 active personnel, according to the ministry, with an additional 20,000 in reserve. With the implementation of conscription and activation of reservists, the ministry hopes that it will be able to increase the number of troops on the field to at least 750,000.

In this time of war, The Adab Times wishes to once again state our undying love and loyalty to our country. We stand faithful to the Empire as His Imperial Majesty's most loyal subject. In the Empire's name we glory, and in its name we are ready for the utmost sacrifice. Long live the Empire. God save the Emperor.

WC81 Be Ever Watchful Chapter 2

Postby Squornshelan Remnant States » Mon Sep 03, 2018 5:59 am

Be Ever Watchful, Chapter 2:

Night of SRS v Olastor, 1 hour 30 minutes prior to kickoff . . .

Match night was always chaos. A sea of people funneled into a few square miles, hyped up on patriotic fervor, copious amounts of booze, and in a few cases, genuine love for the game. Itzal Rinchet and his team lead Aife Filtu moved smoothly through the madness on a prematch patrol, inconspicuously alert for anything out of the ordinary.

Of course, the Chalesm PD and arena security handled all the grunt work. Police escort for both team buses, a liberal scattering of officers both in and out of uniform along the routes, a veritable army of polo-shirted private security. Itzal was pretty sure there were even horseback officers involved somewhere. Anyone'd be crazy to try something with all of that waiting for them, he mused, but then again attacking world cup matches isn't really something sane people do.

He cleared his mind of stray thoughts and brought his focus back to the task at hand. He and Officer Filtu, dressed more or less identically to the tens of thousands of other fans who had descended on the arena district, needed to stay alert. While progressive social and economic policies made serious unrest all but unheard of in the Confederacy, the shadow of the Imperium loomed across the Middle Sea, and its spies certainly walked among this crowd. Whether the Imperials present tonight included saboteurs or assassins remained to be seen. The match was certainly one of the most attractive targets for Imperial disruption in decades.

As things stood, it was quite the PR coup for the Confederacy. While the Imperium still brooded over no doubt increasingly unlikely schemes to regain control of its lost provinces, the Confederacy had laid claim to the proudest tradition of old Squornshelous. Sport, football in particular, had always been a potent symbol, giving Squornshelans escape from their daily lives, and giving the government an unparalleled tool for drumming up patriotic feeling. Surely, the Emperor and his generals would not let this moment pass unchallenged.

Yet so far all was as it should be. Itzal and Aife neared the completion of their circuit through the arena's surroundings, making for a nondescript staff entrance near the team bus parking. A sudden flash of light from directly ahead blinded them, and both instinctively flinched as a loud voice rang out.

"Sorry, didn't mean to surprise you there. Candids for tomorrows Post special edition." The two officers relaxed slightly as a man holding an impressive looking camera came into focus. "Give us a quick smile then, eh?" He motioned insistently, sidestepping to place the arena in the background of the photo.

"I don't know . . ." Itzal began.

"Just a few shots, only take a moment."

"Don't you want to be in tomorrow's paper, babe?" Aife stepped closer to Itzal and slid into a one armed embrace. "Your parents would be so excited to see us in print."

"Well, if you really want to I guess." Itzal's discomfort was only half an act. Not only was he being photographed repeatedly while undercover, his team lead's arm was wrapped securely around his waist and his own rested across her shoulders. It was all a little sudden.

"That's the spirit, look a little left, little down, perfect. Big smiles now." The shutter clicked incessantly as the photographer spoke. "Lovely, thank you so much, be sure to pick up a copy tomorrow morning, who knows, might see yourselves smiling back at you!" And with that, he was gone as suddenly as he had appeared, picking his way through the crowd back in the direction the officers had come.

"Look at your face Aife, can you at least pretend being a couple isn't the worst thing you can imagine?" Rinchet felt a combination of relief and disappointment as they stepped back apart and turned to watch the photographer go.

"For a photographer, he sure isn't taking very many pictures." The frown remained planted on AIfe's face as she watched the man's progress out of the corner of her eye. "Did you see his flash go off at any point before he took the first picture of us?"

"Come to think of it no, I didn't,' now Itzal was frowning too, "and he hasn't taken one since."

"Let's watch for a moment and see if he does. I have a crazy idea about who it might be of."

"You're not thinking . . ."

"We'll just wait and see, call it in."

A discreet head movement activated a microphone sewn into Itzal's lapel. "Filtu and Rinchet diverting, observing suspicious activity, will advise." From a distance, the two tailed the photographer, who certainly did not seem as enthusiastic about taking pictures as he had a moment earlier. He proceeded apparently at random through the crowd until eventually the flash went off again.

"There it is. That was Shvaliev and Dorrholtz." Aife's frown cracked into the slimmest of smiles and she activated her own mic. "Shvaliev, Dorrholtz, grab that photographer and bring him to the arena holding cell for questioning, Rinchet and I are with you in 15." A few brief moments of protestation and some flashed badges later, the four officers marched their captive down a long concrete hallway deep beneath the arena. As they reached crossing, they very nearly collided with Lieutenant Dzegtarin.

"I wasn't aware it was illegal to be a member of the press again. What's going on here?"

"It was my call Lieutenant," Aife stepped forward, "I'll be happy to explain my reasoning."

"Don't be so defensive, Filtu. Shvaliev, Dorrholtz, take him to the holding cell. No one talks to him until the Chief or I say so. Filtu, Rinchet, with me. Bring me up to speed on what happened.

81st World Cup Qualification MD2
Mercedini vs. Kernovi and Rewgwlas
@ Zoloroni Sports City Stadium - Zoloroni, Mercedini

Good evening and welcome to Zoloroni for the first time in this qualification schedule as Mercedini plant their feet on home ground for their second match in qualifying. After their opening round which saw them overcome Rannoria by four goals to nil, they sat in second in the group table behind Vilita who beat Kernovi 6-0 at home on opening night. Kernovi will hope for redemption in their second match as they have the hardest possible start for a lower ranked side, playing the first and second seeded teams in the group away from home back to back in their first two games. Mercedini will hope to record back to back victories in qualification as they hope to keep up with Vilita before the meet at the end of the first half of qualification, which will mean Vilita are the final team to be played before the reverse legs are played in the second half. The match finished a couple of hours ago as the sole early kick off before tonight's matches featuring the other eight teams, so let's see how the Golden Eagles in their first qualifier in front of their home crowd.

World Cup Qualification: A Game Of Push And Pull

FINAL SCORE
WCQ | MD2

MERCEDINI 5
Dosic 7', Alotic 57', 61', 85' (P), Karlovic 69'
KERNOVI AND REWGWLAS 2
Tangye 8', Trengrouse 22'

Zoloroni, Mercedini
Attendance - 42,945
They were given a massive scare in front of their home fans at the Sports City Stadium, but Mercedini came through in the second half to pull out a 5-2 victory at home to make it six out of six in the first two games of qualification, taking them into the top two with a two point margin back into third place, a margin which they hope to either maintain or expand come the end of the qualification period. Remember, top spot auto-qualifies for the World Cup, but the best three second-placers also book a spot directly into the World Cup Finals, while the remaining sixteen will head into a play-off for the remaining eight places. It's sure to be tight at the top in many groups, but Mercedini have stated with Vilita in the opening two games and hope to do so as the matches begin to tick down.

As for the match, it all began with the glitz and glamour you would expect from the Mercedinian home match, with flags flying and flame jets shooting orange beams of energy as the teams entered the arena with their mascots. The afternoon scheduling of the match did draw in tens of thousands to the Sports City Stadium, although match apathy had already set in with the top ring stand having to be closed due to lack of spectators, with only around 45,000 making it to Zoloroni for the match, which included about five or six thousand travelling fans from Kernovi. The teams went into the match as polar opposites with Mercedini in second and Kernovi in last place going into this second match, so the match on paper and the form of both teams suggested the outcome could only go one way. As for the roster, Crasic replaces Garzallo, Pujanic comes in for Presic, while Chillotov and Dostalok make way for Alotic and Vorthik, with the latter making his first ever start for the national side.

The match got off to a flying start for the Mercedinians with only seven minutes on the clock when an early corner was whipped in by Crasic, with plenty of jostling for position as the ball was sent in. A number of players rose for the ball but it was the Barbarians defender who rose highest for the ball and planted a strong header onto it. It floated for a couple of seconds towards the goal but it ultimately beat the diving hand of the goalkeeper plus the lunge from the player on the post to nestle in the bottom corner of the net, to the jubilation of the home crowd and the players. Who all ran to the corner to celebrate in front of the home fans.

Blue and black flags were flying high in the arena, but the joy was to be short lived, very short lived. A foul from Kraljic was not given as the ball fell to Yngvason who didn't hesitate as he fed through Tangye who was bounding clear of the Mercedinian defence. Almost everyone in the stadium was expecting play to be bought back for the foul, but the referee didn't oblige as Tangye was allowed on to a one-on-one with Hovek in the Mercedinian net. The Langtree United goalie tried his best to narrow the angle but it couldn't stop the Kernovi striker from swiping through at the near post for an immediate equaliser, leaving the Sports City Stadium shell shocked. The enquiries were beginning with Lyndainium hassling the fourth official and the players surrounding the referee asking why is wasn't bought back for a rather rash challenge. Alas, all of that was in vain as the goal stood, meaning Mercedini were ahead and back level in less than a minute, so they had to do it all over again to get themselves back in front.

The referee was feeling under pressure from that decision with the crowd still murmuring, chanting and actively booing him, but Mercedini had a job to do and they were desperately trying to get the crowd back on side. Kernovi experienced a new lease of life following that equaliser, with real belief that they could nick another goal away from home to avenge that opening day loss and record their first points of the campaign. Tangye and Copper were the danger men at the front and they were given plenty of freedom at the top due to the sizable pitch size which stretched pretty much everyone when involved in a high pace move. Definitely something to take note of as the minutes were ticking down.

The sun was shining in Zoloroni as the afternoon moved along much like the scattering of clouds which were making their way over the top of the Sports City Stadium, however there was to be a dark cloud having over the Mercedinian team less than half an hour in. A great dribbling move from Cynan Trewin allowed him to fire a hard low cross into the box for a number of Kernovi shirts to latch onto. Tangye was first to arrive but he expertly let it go between his legs, fooling his marker the rest of the defence who went to shut down the Tangye shot. Instead, the ball rolled to winger Sulien Trengrouse who took a touch to control the ball before firing low into the bottom corner to complete a remarkable turn around for the visitors. They couldn't quite believe it, their fans couldn't quite believe and neither did the opposition, it looked like it was going to be another long day against lower league opposition, with Chillotov and Dostalok giving each other a quick look at each other as they sat helplessly on the subs bench.

Vorthik and Alotic tried their best to score an equaliser of their own, but the closest they came was when an opportunistic shot from about twenty yards out was well saved by the Kernovi goalkeeper, it looked to be heading into the far side, but an acrobatic save from pen Godwitel denied the Pelethas United striker a first goal in qualifying. Aside from that, Kernovi were having a great second match following their drubbing in Vilita and went into half time in the lead following those two surprising goals which meant the score stood in Zoloroni; Mercedini 1, K+R 2!

The fans were muttering between themselves as some of the fans went to get some refreshment or a toilet break. As some of them were doing that, the attendance of just less than 45,000 flashed up on the big screens, which was awarded with modest applause although there was no mistaking the elephant in the room, that being the rather disappointing turnout for Mercedini's first home qualifier not even filling 60% of the stadium available. Mercedinians have typically been apathetic towards lower ranked opposition at home, and today was now different. It was still enough to make a decent atmosphere as the teams came back out for the second half.

It is unsure what Lyndainium said to his team during the half time interval, but it sure lifted his team for the second half as they went on a rampage at home to score four unanswered goals in the second half to run away with the win, something which didn't seem possible n the first half after Kernovi's heroics. Charlie Alotic proved to be the man of the hour as he equalised just twelve minutes into the second half with a well worked move which resulted with Nymark opting for a short pass to Alotic. the Pelethas striker took a single touch to take it away from his marker before firing high into the top corner for a rather spectacular equaliser, no celebration as the team went straight back to the half-way line, they wanted another to edge in front for the first time in a while.

That came just a handful of minutes later when Crasic broke free of his marker to bound to the by-line on the edge of the box, his cross deflected off the outstretched leg of the central defender for Kernovi, that took all the venom out of the cross which forced Alotic to the near post. That was no bother as the Mercedinian who plays his football in Cosumar simple flicked the ball on from the near post, over the head of the goalkeeper who was diving down to claim the ball and over the line. There was some doubt as the Kernovi defender at the far post cleared the ball, but it had clearly bounced well over the line at that point with the referee not even having to consult his officials or goal-line technology to know it was a goal. Mercedini had come from behind to go ahead in the space of five minutes, lifting the mood of the home fans in the stadium.

Things then went from good to great for the Mercedinian side as they got a forth through substitute Tihon Tide midfielder Johan Karlovic in rather fortunate circumstances. A horrific back pass from the Kernovi right-back was pounced upon by Thomas Vorthik with the situation much like the Kernovi equaliser in the sense that it was a one versus one at the top of the pitch. In this duel, it was pen Godwitel who won with a low Vorthik side-footed shot deflecting off the knee of the Kernovi goalkeeper. The deflection of the shot rebounded back into the middle of the pitch to Karlovic who bounded forward before unleashing a hard shot into the centre of the goal, trying to beat the goalkeeper who was scrambling back to his posts following the original shot. Godwitel made a last gasp dive for the ball but he couldn't get to it as the ball hit slap-bang in the middle of the posts for Karlovic's first and Mercedini's fourth of the match.

A big scare was averted and the home team had full control of the match from then on, passing from the back and not allowing the visitors any time on the ball. Mercedini rubbed salt into the wounds with time ticking down as Charlie Alotic claimed the first Mercedinian hattrick of the campign via a penalty when Thomas Vorthik was tugged back by his shirt. Alotic's slow run up was completed with a coolly slotted spot kick to his right to round up a clinical performance in this second half, 5-2 the score line, with nine goals scored in their first two matches!

The referee blew his whistle for the end of the match, and as night began to fall on Zoloroni, Mercedini knew their quest for a spot at the World Cup was only beginning, two great matches to kick off their campaign and they only had the one massive scare to worry about. They went top for the moment, but were bested once again by Vilita who beat Tobiasia by four goals to one to go top with maximum points and a vastly superior goal difference. The top two open up a two point gap from those behind them as Mercedini travel to Oberour Ar Moro tomorrow for their match. We'll see where this start will take them, in Zoloroni it finished Mercedini 5, Kernovi and Rewgwlas 2.

Match Recap

The Shaylan Team suffered tough loss at home to San Reganda to kick off the Shayla Park Competive Legacy. HRH Jonathan Barkley put up a good game against the 123rd rank Eagles. The Final was 2-1 in favor of the Eagles. However the goalkeeper Andy Watts raised some eyebrows tonight as he manged to get a goal. The young goalkeeper launched a rocked past David López the Eagles goalkeeper. However despite Watts, the coach was not happy according to sources close to the tam. Overall the team put up to a rather poor preformance with the Eagles dominating the team for most of the match. Christian Saaverda scored twice for the eagles.

The blues drop to 7th after this game, making the dream of making the top 1/2 of the group more and more unlikely. However the team has mantianted it's set out goal. Let's see how the blues takes on Egyptostan today.

World Cup Qualifying Roundup-Matchday 1

It's that time of year again. The regional championships have all finished, the Baptism of Fire has come to a thrilling conclusion and now all the world's teams, with the exception of hosts Banija and the Free Republics, come together to try and earn one of 32 places in the world cup finals.

After a disastrous campaign last time out, Dusan Vukoja is given what could be his last chance to qualify-or at least earn a respectable position. Despite finishing a lowly 7th in qualifying for World Cup 80, if this year's group went to ranking form, they would finish 3rd.

Elsewhere throughout the multiverse, there are a number of teams to keep an eye on. Brenecia and the Holy Empire will be looking to breeze through qualifying after their runs to the world cup 80 final whilst Baptism of Fire 68 champions Cobrio will be looking to make an impression against the established sides in their group. There is also exciting news from Atlantian Oceania as Mattijanan protectorate Saint Émelie make their World Cup debut.

Here's all you need to know (and some things you don't) about the action from matchday 1.

Mattijana Hit Comind New Islands for Six

Emphatic Mattijanan victories have been a rare phenomenon so far, but they got their campaign off to an impressive start as they beat unranked rookies Comind New Islands 6-2 at the Stadijo Dinamov in Petrovijanka.
Mathilde Lekarisa, Mattijana's designated lone striker since last cycle's Cup of Harmony, scored the first of many after 10 minutes as she calmly slotted home an up and over ball from Marko Hojbjerg. Hojbjerg's midfield partner Katarina Jakupovic then got in on the act herself when a deflected effort from the edge of the box scuttled low into the bottom corner.

Comind New Islands looked new in both name and nature as they struggled to cope with some sharp passing from the Mattijanan team and they conceded a third as Sophia Velezia squeezed clear of her marker and whipped in a delicious ball for Lekarisa to beautifully clip over the goalkeeper.

The visitors earned themslelves a lifeline on the stroke of half time with a well-worked effort to beat Handanovic, but the hosts pushed on after the break and added a resounding fourth 54 minutes in as the recalled veteren Sezer Julianov curled into the top corner from just inside the penalty area. A fifth swiftly followed through a diving header from Jessika Struna at the back post and although Comind New Islands got another consolation goal from a corner, it was Mattijana who finished the game on top, Lekarisa completing her hat-trick by slamming home a loose ball from 12 yards out.

Whilst there is still a long way to go and 17 more matches to play, Vukoja will take heart from his team's opening performance in the type of match they would have drawn in last cycle's qualifiers.
On paper, this is the easiest game of the whole cycle, but the margin of victory was enough to convince fans they will fare well against other opponents.

Mattijana travel to the Sherpa Empire for matchday 2, looking to earn two wins in two.

Controversy and Ecstasy In Saint Émelie

Saint Émelie took all three points in their first World Cup match after a 1-0 win against HUElavia on the beach in Le Goutiér, an excellent acheivement for Les Insulaires against a side who would have expected to beat them.
There was however some controversy surrounding the venue for the game. The Saint Émelie FA have thrown a curveball at the top 4 ranked teams in the group by forcing them to play not just by the sand, but on it.
Despite watering and packing down the pitch, the underfoot conditions clearly hampered the HUElavian team with the world number 64s struggling to create many chances. Saint Émelie looked the more comfortable team and despite having to dig in like an ice pick rather than a spade at some points in the second half, sneaked a goal in the 78th minute when captain Florian Bastereud headed home from a corner.
Bastereud will have cemented himself as even more of a national hero after his stoppage time winner against Vilita and Turori earned his side a debut victory in the AOCAF, but there was yet more controversy surrounding the goal as Simon Pelletier appeared to kick sand into the face of the HUElavian goalkeeper as the corner kick was delivered by Mathilde Laurent, resulting in them not knowing where the ball was as it flew into the back of the net. This went unpunished, either because the referee didn't see it or because the rules of football do not cater for matches played on sand.
That aside, Saint Émelie held out for the win and will now travel to unranked Anollasia looking to make it two wins from two.

Promising Start For Cobrio

The challenge for every team at the 68th Baptism of Fire, the most hotly contested in recent history, is to make the step up against the higher-ranked teams in the world cup qualifiers. However for champions Cobrio, there is an even more intense pressure to succeed.

Drawkland are the most notable team to have qualified for the finals on their debut, but the feat was also acheived last cycle by the Commonwealth of Baker Park after they finished as runners up in BoF 67.
Despite that, a team reaching the finals on debut is an incredibly rare phenomenon and one that takes an incredibly amount of work, skill, guts and often luck to acheive. Yet Cobrio started their campaign strongly with a 2-0 win against 230th-ranked Oscioru.

There will be better teams and tougher challenges to come but a solid win is always the best way to get a qualifying run on the move and Cobrio will be looking to take their stylish game to the stronger teams that include defending champions Brenecia and former winners Cassadaigua.

Second Season Syndrome For Baker Park?

Talking of the commonwealth, they have a lot to live up to this cycle. Expectations will be somewhat scrambled with some only happy if the team qualify again, whilst many will be happy with a solid showing even if the team fail to make it to Banija and the Free Republics.

They opened their campaign against 189th-ranked Freeport and registered a 2-1 win. The scoreline is far from an emphatic one, but as we and many others have said before, a win is a win when it comes to opening fixtures.
Baker Park have a comparably easy group. They are the second seeds with 22nd-ranked Darmen the pot 1 team, thus avoiding the real heavyweights. As a result, they have a chance of picking up points, although so too do rivals Taeshan and Coldfield who will be looking to make the top end of the table very tight and competitive.

Kalactin Break Dour Run

Northwest Kalactin have been quite correctly ridiculed for their misplaced optimism and misuse of English grammar, but they got their World Cup 81 qualifying effort off to a better start than the majority of their World Cup 80 matches. The Kalactinians had the highest number of draws of all 150 sides competing, being held even more times than even Mattijana.
They beat Sorrentopia 2-0, a surprisingly wide margin of victory given their tendency for frustration last cycle.
Whether they will slip back to their ways against higher-ranked opposition we shall see, but the opening result represents a step forward for the team, who are yet to make a step forward with their use of punctuation.

Ch 2. When to go

Barunia has a fairly mild climate all year round, and activities are not generally restricted by the weather. Summer temperatures range from low-20s to mid-30 degrees celsius, with winter temperatures dropping to a couple of degrees above 0. Snow is unheard of in Barunia, although rain is common in the winter months, which cover June-August.

Spring brings warmer weather and an abundance of wildflowers in Barunia’s national parks, as well as nesting seabirds along the cliffs around Marion and the West Barunian coast. Many tourist hotspots offer special deals in September, the start of Barunia’s unofficial tourism season. The season also coincides with the finals of Barunia’s two largest sporting leagues: The X-League (Association Football) and the National Premier League (Field Hockey), and many hotels in the host cities offer discounted rates in anticipation of travelling fans. While this means cheaper deals, it is extremely variable, and deals often appear at short notice as they are often dependant on the results of a match.

The Barunian Summer is festival season. School children start their long school holidays in early December, and there are plenty of children’s events available around the country. Barunians also celebrate Christmas on December 25th, while the National Barunia Day is also celebrated each year on the 23rd of December. While there are many national day events around the country, the largest celebration is in the capital, Porthaven, which celebrates each year with a fireworks display after a concert at Federation Park, headlined by the biggest names in Barunian music. The festival season continues in January with music festivals and other events across the country. Summer is also the perfect time to head to the beach. Relax on one of the beautiful sandy beaches of the Northern Isles, try parasailing off Windy Bluff in south-east Havenia, or go sailing at Fairweather in Marion.

While the tourist season winds down in autumn and winter, there is still plenty to do during the cooler months. It’s the perfect time to get a great deal on accommodation.

DEFENSE, ACRONIUS - Massimilano Abdullahi and his Blue Boys have much to think about after they succumbed to the Euran national football team on a cool evening at the in Defense. Acronius' home matches for the duration of the World Cup 81 Qualifiers were all supposed to be played in the capital, Lionsgate, at Union Park, but an abrupt announcement for renovation meant that the Blue Boys would fall to Eura at Atlas Arena instead. Positives, however, could definitely be drawn from the game. Eura came into the match second in the multiverse, meaning they were leagues ahead of Acronius (by comparison 45th) and fully expected to thrash the home side - and although they did bag the three points, most would probably have considered the performance gap between the two teams too narrow to be deemed a thrashing.

The first half of the game, however, belonged wholly and solely to the Rushmori outfit. Right from the first whistle, Acronius were almost immediately forced into an unfamiliar defensive playing style, as each of their attempts for an early quickfire surprise attack were quelled by a very capable back four. The Eurans, in turn, began attacking themselves, and the team's superior calibre meant Acronius wouldn't be able to hold them for long. Seventeen minutes proved to be their limit, as Eura's lone striker Dion Underwood opened the scoreline in Atlas Arena. A bad control from Ryan Chimneys allowed Oscar Coltrane to steal possession for Eura, and three quick passes resulted in the ball ending up at Underwood's feet, and the 29 year old clinically fired a sitter into the bottom right corner. 0-1 for Eura in the 17th minute.

From there on, Eura dominated play in the first half, consistently building up attack after attack, yet the Blue Boys held out until the closing moments of the half. Perhaps complacent in their expectation of an incoming half-time whistle, they were caught off-guard when central midfielder Liam Armstrong, forty yards out, chipped the ball up over an unprepared Michael Rowland to net Eura's second. The quality of play deteriorated quite noticeably following the half-time break, so nobody was ready when Marin Trésor suddenly pulled one back for the home side. Taking a free kick from roughly 30 yards out, the central midfielder's shot was on-target to begin with, but a rather significant deflection from John Leach sent the ball flying into the other corner of the goal - goalkeeper Robert Griffin couldn't to anything about it. 1-2 in the 63rd.

What glimmer of hope Trésor's wonder-shot might have given Acronian supporters were eventually shattered however. With the home side supporters still hoping for an equalizer, substitute striker Josh Holmes netted a third for Eura, sealing the game's fate. With this loss, Acronius now fall to fourth in Group Seven, as North Prarie and the Sherpa Empire overtake them in second and third respectively. Acronius' next fixture pits them against the 317th-ranked Hungarian Nation - which the Blue Boys will be fully expected to win if they wish to keep their chances of qualification alive.

It's imperative Abdullahi doesn't let this get to his head - he needs to stick to this playing style.

Postby Savojarna » Mon Sep 03, 2018 7:26 am

Sjoedrhavn, VH - Savojarna's first victory in a World Cup qualification group that the Northlights had entered as clear favourites to advance from was not as purely joyful as the audience had hoped, as the tense atmosphere surrounding Savojarna and Krenorus in sports had blown up in Sjoedrhavn. The behaviour of Krenorussian fans at the recent World Cup of Hockey in Anthor had been prominently reported in Savojar media. Fans of the relatively young nation had been slandering Savojarna in Anthor, throwing homophobic slurs at winger Ville Stefansson following rumours in the international press, and insulting the nation's flag. Back in Anthor, the reactions on the ice had been overwhelming. On one hand, the players had shown considerable solidarity and defended each other on the ice multiple times, but also showed that the Krenorussian provocations had been useless by scoring four goals to Krenorus' one.

The events of Anthor were far from forgotten when Krenorus were to visit Sjoedrhavn to face the Northlights on the football field. Before the event, social networks were blowing up with memes and posts referencing "4-1" in various ways, always in connection with Krenorus. At the stadium itself, whistles could be heard during the Krenorussian national anthem, and at its end there were loud "Savojarna! Savojarna!" chants. As always, the atmosphere was electric in the stadium, with flares and smoke making their usual appearance at Savojar home games. The crowd had prepared a special display where they raised images of Ville Stefansson, Pavel Rasnikov and Mikko Simonen, the three hockey forwards that had scored against the Krenorussians back in Anthor, and waved many rainbow flags in reference to the homophobic abuse that the opposing fans and even players had thrown at Savojarna's hockey team.

On the pitch, the game was fast and aggressive, but always fair. The loud audience had pushed the Savojars forward and after seven minutes a curled shot by Voynov had already just missed the far post, underscoring Savojarna's ambitions in this game. The wingers with their incredible creativity and speed were central to the Savojar attack, and the next good chance came from Jashkin cutting to the inside past Bowen and firing a shot onto the goal of Krusen. The goalkeeper could punch it out, but Karjanen slid into the ball and pushed it over the line, sending the stadium in collective ecstasy over the goal. Krenorus' lineup was way too offensive for the fast Savojars, who found lots of space behind the wingers and could exploit Krenorus' lack of proper fullbacks. In the offence, tenacious discipline by Savojarna shut down Krenorus' efforts and top scorer Lord van Gaal was completely shut down by Andersson's defence.

The Krenorussians seemed to grow increasingly frustrated with the speed and accuracy of the Savojar attack, and there was quite some commotion on the field as well after O'Brien had harshly tackled Hoyman and saw a yellow card for it. Referees and players had to hold back the Savojar to make sure he would not start a fight with the midfielder, but as he still had pushed back O'Brien after the tackle, there had been a yellow for Andersson as well. It had also kickstarted the audience again, who was shouting the Savojars ahead until shortly before the break, a long pass from Jashkin onto the foot of Voynov had led to the second goal of the night when Voynov shot it between the legs of the Krenorussian goalie. In the second half there was not much more to report aside from a beautiful volley by substitute Morten Poulsen and a goal by Ace Richardson that set the score to its final 3-1 score.

What should have been a reason for joy among the Savojars had devolved into ugliness yet again, like in Anthor. Already in the stadium, both fan groups had been provocative, with Savojar fans chanting "Dumb Commie Faggots! You lost to dumb Commie faggots!", appropriating the slurs that Krenorussian players had thrown at their heads on the ice, the away fans responded by whistling loudly any time Joonas Andersson touched the ball. Outside the stadium, the taunts by the Savojars continued as they crossed their paths with Krenorussian fans, and the metro station Nationalstadion Carl Gustaf Bjurman became the site of an ugly clash between fan groups multiple times. According to reports of both witnesses and police, the Savojars and Krenorussians were both complicit in the violence, without any clear instigators. One witness stated: "We saw the ultras coming down the street doing the commie faggot chant again, when suddenly the Krenorussian group came out of nowhere and threw a bottle in their direction. The ultras jumped the Krenorussians and we had to run".

Police tried to keep the battles away from the city centre, but was unable to prevent fan violence yet again. By now it must be asked if Savojarna has a structural problem with violent actions surrounding the game, and especially the national team. Allegations that the police was siding with the Savojars and low-key approves of the violence against fans from nations such as Krenorus or Juvencus, with whom provocations were exchanged before the game, were raised by some observers. In a motion at the National Assembly today, the Liberal Block demanded that the police presence must be heightened for the next matches and that they should not be played at the Bjurman, but at a smaller stadium outside Sjoedrhavn. In response, the LKPS fraction left the room after a passionate votum by LKPS Assemblyman Jaromir Vyshek that the fans were doing the right thing by carrying politics onto the streets, and that the Krenorussians were to blame for the riots and the nation should support the team at all times.

Policemen themselves angrily rejected the allegations, but police union leader Ola Pohlsman also said that the records were overstated, suggesting to compare them to official police records in an official press communiqué earlier today. The policemen of Sjoedrhavn signed an open letter demanding that the games would remain in the capital and asking for understanding among the population that the police had a very tough job on game day. For the next home matches, more police forces from surrounding corps should be present to support the Sjoedrhavn police, something that was demanded by Pohlsman and backed by the head of the city police corps, Ingmar Bohr. So far, it seems that the city assembly has not reacted in the same manner as the National Assembly and decided not to take any measures except for those requested by the police corps itself, an approach that was generally approved by observers and the Executive Committee.

Odd Practice Incident To Keep Martinez Out Of Lineup,
by Chelsea Dufresne, Concord Heights Times

After failing to register a point in their first two games, it is safe to say that practices are getting a little more intense for the Fillies. As forgivable as the to Brenecia will be, losing to Octinstine was the exact opposite. Despite them also being a top-100 team (ranked 99th), that is simply a game that we needed to win, and we did not. With a record of 0-0-2, the next opponent is a rather unknown commodity in the form of Czarna Gora. They played in the Baptism of Fire, but did not fare particularly well. There is no excuses for our team to not get three points here. Anything less will not go over well, for sure, with pretty much our entire fanbase.

In practice like this, it is important to keep your head up. Unfortunately for Carlos Martinez, a starting defender on the team, he was distracted in the midst of a conversation with captain Hannah Ranucci when a laser of kick off the foot of Lupe Enriquez hit him directly in the groin. Good to see, by the way, that both Ranucci and Enriquez have seemed to recover from the hard bout of food poisoning that they had prior to the last match. Enriquez was participating in a free kick drill and told on-site Concord Heights Times personnel that Martinez was expected to be on the other side of the field, and not near where the forwards were. Additionally, Hannah Ranucci did seem to know it was coming, and was able to move out of the way in a timely manner. Martinez curled onto the ground in obvious pain as the training staff quickly rushed to attend to him. He will be fine long term, but Stephanie Sweeney declared that because of the practice time he missed today, that Hannah Shanley will start in his place. It will actually be Shanley’s second start now, after being a regular starter for the team in the World Cup 80 campaign but relegated to a substitute role on the opening day roster due to the addition of Martinez, one of the men who played so well in the Baker Park Open Cup and earned his spot in that capacity.

Carlos Martinez was unavailable for comment. Manager Stephanie Sweeney referenced the play as a freak accident, but she will try to find out why it may have happened. Defender Lupe Enriquez is known for sneaky antics, and became quite popular in Di Bradini Cup 41 by punching at least three opposing forwards in the face while referees were not looking, and never being carded for any of them. This type of sneaky physical play has remained part of Lupe’s bag of tricks, so it is only natural for some to speculate if there was more intent here. For now though, this is only being considered a freak accident.

(In the managers office, following the practice where the above incident occurred)

“Lupe, I’m not stupid.” Manager Stephanie Sweeney began, “How convenient for this to have happened with Carlos when he was distracted with Hannah. You two schemed this. Do you two seriously think you can pull this off without me having a little common sense?”

“It was an accident, coach.” Enriquez replied.

Sweeney could not help but shake her head, “Lupe, I am not a gullible referee. I know your reputation, and that’s a big part of why you are on the team. This was a scheme. You, and Hannah, and who knows how many other players were in on this, but I cannot have this on my team. Why are you treating the men on this team like shit?”

“Carlos should have been with the other defenders. It was an accident.” Enriquez insisted.

Sweeney continued to not believe her, “It was not an accident, Lupe. How convenient that Hannah seemed to know when exactly the ball was coming that hit him. How convenient that she was talking to you right before she started talking to Carlos. Maybe if it was someone like Jessica (Curran) I could believe it was an accident, but you have a history, Lupe. Cut it out!”

“We’ll be fine with Hannah Shanley, anyway.” Lupe said as she walked out. Sweeney then called in the captain, Hannah Ranucci.

“Hannah, what did I tell you before? Do not undermine me.” Sweeney demanded.

“What are you talking about? The Martinez play was an accident.” Ranucci replied.

“Why do you guys think I am so stupid. It was a deliberately intentional act to get Hannah Shanley back in the lineup, a player you are more friendly with then Carlos, because you do not believe that Carlos earned his spot in the starting lineup. I’m tempted not to play Shanley either out of spite for this act. In fact, now that I think about it, she already got one start. I am starting Matthew Donegal in that spot.” Sweeney declared.

“Seriously, Donegal? He’s been a reserve the last two matches. If not Shanley then at least Ashley Crocker.” Ranucci pleaded.

“Maybe you should have thought about that before you schemed to get Carlos out of the lineup. I’m beginning to wonder about your captaincy.” Sweeney declared.

“I’m being a captain. This is what captains do, the consensus on this team is that the male starters did not earn their starting spots in the proper manner. You are the one overlooking that. If I was not being a captain, I would be doing nothing.” Ranucci replied with a grin.

Ranucci Feels Better, Gets Hat Trick,
by Chelsea Dufresne, Concord Heights Times

Finally! Cassadaigua has picked up their first win of the qualifying campaign, coming a game later then we would have liked and two games later then we would have hoped. The win was a convincing 4-1 triumph over Czarna Gora, a nation that participated in the recent Baptism of Fire, but were not one of the better performers. The lineup for Cassadaigua saw the return of the four players, including Hannah Ranucci and Lupe Enriquez, that were unable to play against Octinstine due to food poisoning. However, Carlos Martinez was unable to play due to an unfortunate accident that we noted yesterday that occurred in practice. Despite being initially told that Hannah Shanley, who already covered for Enriquez, would replace Martinez, manager Sweeney surprised us by going with 21-year old Matthew Donegal in that spot. Donegal was not expected to get much playing time, if even any, during qualifying, and was down the depth chart a few sports. Perhaps the move was to replace a male with a male, but Sweeney told us that Donegal had earned the chance due a high work ethic in practice since qualifying began.

The game started off with Cassadaigua in dominant form, and it took just six minutes for the Fillies to get on the board, with a powerful strike by Hannah Ranucci, which was well set up by Sierra Mattison, another player who had been out with food poisoning. In the 28th minute, Ranucci picked up her second of this match, this off a corner, that again saw Mattison earn the assist. This is where the game stood at halftime. In the second half, Caitlyn Mayer picked up her first goal of the campaign in 58th minute, and in the 66th minute, Ranucci’s hat trick was complete. Up 4-0, the Fillies had displayed dominance, but could not get entirely off the blooper reel as well. In the 82nd minute, Matthew Donegal seemed surprised to get a simple pass from goalkeeper Kristen Speller. Donegal may have expected Speller to clear the play, but Speller was looking for Donegal too. Donegal, not anticipating the pass, saw it deflect off the back off his foot, and it bounced into the net for a rather comical own goal. At least in this case, we had the game in the books.

(In manager Sweeney’s office)

“How’d you like the hat trick, coach?” Hannah Ranucci asked with a very mischievous grin.

“Congratulations, let’s see more of it and less of the other stuff.” Sweeney replied, not wanting to get one-upped.

“Glad you enjoyed it!” Ranucci replied.

“Yeah, and I know that play with Donegal was a set up. Stop it, Hannah. What if we lose a tiebreaker on goal differential and its one goal? I didn't realize Speller is also in on whatever is being schemed.” Sweeney asked.

“Hannah Shanley would have read the pass.” Ranucci said with a grin, as she walked out.

Forays of Folly
Season 1, Episode 4: Bothers in Arms

CAVEAT EMPTOR - ICly, this roleplay, with the exception of the final paragraph, is SECRET to Mayor John Price and Military Minister Saffron Howard.

THE ETYMOLOGY OF SAFFRON - from the Arabic as'faran (---> "worth as much as gold")

The Military Minister would, perhaps be forgiven in thinking that the 21st of August was going to - or supposed to - go like any other day that she had experienced, mostly cloudy with a 5% chance of some random nation declaring war that Tinhampton just had to leap in to in an attempt to fulfil Nimrodian aspirations that reeked of the MacGregor era. Just anoth---
"Johnny here. The mayor, not some cheeky little imposter bloke with nothing better to do than pretend to be me. Caller ID always works, don't it?"
"I'm not entirely sure..." Saffron Howard, on the other end of the line, left for a couple of minutes into the considerably less cushy and much more air-conditioned surroundings of the conservatory, trying to fetch notes on the war in Mexico socialista from an earlier cabinet meeting that had commenced with much less fluff and kerfuffle. In that time, the Mayor lost patience, smacked the phone against its holder, and was very much threatening to enjoy some cod and chips from the Inquisition.
"The name's Saffy. Not some... commie traitor who wants to threaten our country! So, if you're interested, here's the document on what's happening down Mexico way that I was going to talk to you about earlier. You can't see it, obviously, but it says..."
"Sounds foo---good for me. Want to talk about it later?" John Price, on the other end of the line, left for a couple of minutes into the moderately more cushy and infinitely less air-conditioned surroundings of the archives, trying to fetch the outcomes of previous Tinhamptonian interventions with significantly less drastic outcomes. In that time, the Military Minister lost patience, smacked the phone against its holder, and was very much threatening to leave her room again.
"My apologies, I was under the assumption we'd be getting crushed. So, as for the war, how many men should we send to support those bastards?"
"A good thousand or so should do it." Saffron Howard, on the other end of the line, left for a couple of minutes into the... obviously less glamourous surroundings of Underneath The Bed, for reasons that should be obvious by now. In that time, the Mayor lost patience, smacked the phone against its holder, and was still threatening to eat his dinner.
"Yes, one thousand men, maybe a couple of more cohorts to bandy along just in case, all the necessary equipment and the rebels are going to provide us with everything else, perhaps even a bit of power. End of story."
"No, you wally, not 'end of story!' We need more of a plan! Call me back!" John Price, on the other end of the line, left for a couple of minutes, just sitting down for some momentary, if superficial, tranquility. In that time, the Military Minister lost patience, smacked the phone against its holder, and was busy trying to add more meat onto the bones of the Tinhamptonian ersatz-plan.
"Maybe whack them all the help they could possibly need, and then a bit more? I suppose that we'll have to be able to hammer all of this out with the rebel forces, although there are sort of two of them, so we'll have to see what happens next. I'd suppose this isn't quite the end of---"
"No, this is the end of story. If you have anything more to whine about, you know what to do." John Price, still on the other end of the line, left for a couple of minutes, waiting for his counterpart to reply. In that time, the Military Minister - almost as if possessed by the angels of peace that had enraptured the Mayor seconds earlier - kept her calm and refused to smack the phone against its holder, whilst contemplating the realism of Tinhamptonian support for such a diverse contingent.
"So, I was thinking, what if they collapse under some weight somehow? We could just send our own for---"
"OK, OK... I'll accept your plan if that means I get to have my fish and chips in peace, Saffy! Just tell those bastards that everybody else is OK with it!" Saffron Howard, on the other end of the line, was swift in ending the phone call and even swifter in pushing out a statement noting Tinhamptonian support for the democratic and monarchist rebel forces in Mexico socialista, with promises of supplies and military powers. In that time, the Mayor ate his dinner.

One could pinpoint the exact minute when the tense encounter between both sides turned into a slaughterhouse and it is no surprise that Danijel Prigidar, the man of the hour, took centre-stage in the process. Even in the first forty-five minutes, when the Karulicjans struggled to show the Ballhoggers that one doesn’t need a nickname to keep pace, Prigidar had been omnipresent. His screamer that stunned Karoslav for the equaliser had been a thing of beauty and every analyst spotted the running action which caused havoc in the defence, allowing Ales Kunstelj to score his first in the blue-and-white jersey for the 2-2. The second half promised more of the same, a close battle between two sides eager to score, rather than keeping the other one from doing so. Rakivland had the upper hand in terms of shots on goal but Moscardelli kept on frustrating the troops of Saeriva.

And then minute 63 came. Ostensibly, it would be filled with a careful build-up, starting with riskless passing between Vanik and Ziwvak. But Prigidar wasn’t to let anything slip today and chased the latter into a mediocre pass towards Karivas, the man who dictated the pace around the middle of the pitch. The kind of opportunity you shouldn’t give Graziano Ceccarelli. With an outstretched leg, he denied Karivas the ball – even as the latter completed his tackle and came crashing into the Sovanzaro midfielder. Suddenly, things went fast. Trevisan picked up the loose ball and pushed it upfield, making use of a moment of indecisiveness with the yellow stripes. Carefully, he put the ball behind the defence of Rakivland. Vanik and Prigidar made a run for it but while the former halted in his tracks, the latter didn’t even control the ball to launch it in the net. It wasn’t even done there for the referee who struggled to get every formality fixed in the right order – handing a second yellow to Karivas whilst allowing the Rakivlandian defender to be stretchered off – Vanik’s ankle had snapped in his sprint. One man down and with the linchpin of their back four at the doctor’s office, it was always going to be an uphill battle for the visitors.

Uphill quickly became impossible when Graziano Ceccarelli cleverly scored – only a handful of few Cadenza hardliners mused at the fact that a Sovanzaro player could be cheered on as a hero in the stadium of his bitter rivals. But up next the Prigidar show continued. He weighed on the remnants of the plan of the Rakivi, continuously opening up space. Eventually, he ran up the score with a certain ease, celebrating with the ecstasy of a junior.

When the fourth of his foot went in, a trademark cannonball in the bottom corner, he ran back towards the dugouts and ripped off his shirt, only to reveal a ’This one’s for you’ shirt. A foolish move which shocked the audience for various reasons. First of all because the ref, well aware of all the rules, booked him – his second one after an all too eager tackle early on. Getting send off like that in the last minute was one thing, missing a potential key match against Savalen another. Evidently the national press buried him for it, even after such a performance, and not in the least because they knew him as a composed, clever man.

Only a handful noticed that throughout the handing of the red card, Prigidar hadn’t once taken a look at the referee. His eyes wandered the stands, searching for something – or someone – and fearing that he had seen the last of it.

Juvencus 2-0 Tanzanique

BITTERSWEET VICTORY AGAINST LOWLY TANZANIQUE
Image
3 wins in a row for the gli attaccanti, who seem to be on fire

VINCETI CATEDRAL, VINCETI "Conditions in Vinceti haven't cooled down since the last time we played here, we were playing under the sunlight in 40 degrees celsius, yet you expect us to win by a long shot. I'm sorry to break this down for you, but what our, as well as the opposing team's players endured today was what is considered by the youth, hell." were August Toset's post-match comments, after the team's victory with 2-0 against Tanzanique, leaving the attendees quite disappointed, despite the win's victory.

The conditions of the Vinceti Catedral were very warm and it seemed like the players were playing 'inside a frying pan' which could be the explanation of the slow overall gameplay last afternoon. The first half saw both teams fresh inside the field, trying to establish dominance with back and forth possession stealing with both teams doing colossal attempts of not wasting their energy in this excruciating heat. However, the efficiency of the Juven strikers was put into play soon enough with a long ball from Ibarra finding Tafani, with the latter nutmegging the Tanzanian goalkeeper to score the first goal of the game. Juvencus immediately turned into possessive play instead of the usual offensive play from the side, meant to disorganise the Tanzanian players. The result of this annoying possessive play, a Tanzanian player tackled Martell's left calf very aggressively out of anger, leaving both Martell and himself out for the next game. The first half ended with a 35-yard shot by Etxeberria heading wide.

The second half started in cooler conditions and thus the gli attaccanti's engines started early on, albeit not to 100% potential. First chance of the second half, an Araujo through-ball found Tafani on a favorable position to score a second one for the afternoon, however it was blocked by the keeper. Soon after, a sprinting attempt by Grec to go through the Tanzanian defenders succeeded only to get his shot blocked by the cross. The Tanzanian team then seized the opportunity to get through the tired Juven midfield only to get the midfielder's long distance shot saved by Bulgari. In the final 15 mins of the game, the engine reopened and thus Christian was able to cross the ball for Etxberria to score the volley, securing Juvencus' chances of victory. Next game is against 64th ranked HUElavia away, which is the first important test for the team's strength.

Tanzanique XI:
24 people illegally showed up to the field pretending to be the Tanzanique 11, however it was confirmed that it was them after they showed their papers to the guards. But they still decided to not show their names on the records for "God knows why".

Inimabakesh Thulus: 'Sometimes I still can't believe this is all happening'

The assistant manager of the Adabian football team speaks about his job and the team's prospects at the World Cup

Inimabakesh Thulus, 51, has devoted his whole life to football and continues to do so, though that sport once landed him in prison. Thulus played for Baghdad City - his only club in the entirety of his professional career - as a defender and occasional midfielder from 1985 to 2004. He spent the next four years as a coach in that same club, only to fall victim to 'The Purge' in 2008, in which hundreds were arrested for their involvement in - or connection to - the various scandals that had befallen Adabian football. Thulus was lucky; some of his former teammates received the death penalty, but he himself was sentenced to six years in prison and was pardoned in 2015, having served four years. Now he has joined Saad Kaykali, his former teammate and protege at Baghdad City, as assistant manager of the Adabian national football team, guiding a new generation of footballers to international glory in the 2019 World Cup.

How did you land the job of assistant manager?
I hadn't anticipated it at all. Like, I never thought I'd even be involved in football ever again. You see, after I was pardoned and my name was cleared, I decided to finally go to college - the University of Adab - which really was a dream come true, you know, because in my younger days I missed out quite a bit on education in favor of football. I was chasing a law degree, also worked part time at a cafe that my friend owned. I thought I'd never go back to football, because it was still banned when I was released, but then the ban was lifted and Saad was appointed manager and I think the night after he was appointed, or maybe the night after that, I got a phone call, and of course it was Saad. He basically said 'I need you. You know you wanna come back. Together we can rebuild Adabian football.' And he's right, you know. I did wanna come back.

So it was quite a shock when he offered the job to you.
It really was. Like I said, I hadn't anticipated it at all, but I really appreciate him for giving me that job. I really do. I thought everyone had forgotten me and the new generation would just move on and rebuild Adabian football without me. It's nice to know that people out there still remember you. I thought I was gonna spend the rest of my life in a law firm or maybe as a barista. Sometimes I still can't believe this is all happening.

You really thought you'd never return to football?
No, I really didn't think I would ever come back. I thought the door had been closed on me forever when I was imprisoned. I thought no one would ever want to associate with me ever again.

What can we expect from the team that we have right now?
They're really the cream of the crop, the best that the country's got to offer. It was a long, hard process, choosing them. Of course, I think we all still remember the nationwide trial that we held not long ago, before the Independents Cup. Every single one of our players emerged through that trial. Saad and I sent people all across the country, through the big cities and the most run-down villages, searching for the best talent out there. There's the district trial, the governorate trial, and the final, I suppose you can say grand final, trial at the Adab City Stadium. It was tiring but also very productive, and there is this sense of pride and satisfaction when I think of the role that we played in discovering them.

How do you think the team will fare in the World Cup?
We've got the power, we've got the speed, the power, the potential. And we've got the enthusiasm. No matter which team we're facing, at each training session and before each match I keep telling them, "Do your best and win." How will we fare? I will only say this: they will do their best and they will win. As long as the boys do that, they definitely can make it to the finals. That's it.

You sound very optimistic about our prospects.
We have to be optimistic. We have to get behind the team and support them, encourage them. We cannot go into each match thinking, "Oh they're too big, they're too great, we're gonna lose." No, that is not how things work there. We go into each match thinking, "We can do this." We will do our best and we will try to win each and every match. As Muhammad Ali once said, "He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life."

Mr. Kaykali said recently that there is much to look forward to in this team and that they can go toe-to-toe with the best teams in the world. Do you agree with him? Or he is just exaggerating?
Why, he's simply telling the truth. As long as we believe in ourselves, as long as the boys believe in themselves, we can do it. We can do it and we can win.

Who's the best player in the team, or the one that you think has the most potential?
All of them. It's a team, after all. They're all great at what they do, in their respective positions, and they've all got the potential to become even greater. This is just the beginning for them, for us all.

Who do you think is the hardest opponent in our group?
I suppose you can say Starblaydia, and Audioslavia too. They've got a long history in the World Cup, which I admire. There's Kalumba, too, and of course we drew 1-1 with them, which is a good sign considering they're a pretty good team if their ranking is anything to go by. They're ranked 52nd. But then again don't let rankings haunt you. Just because we're, what, ranked 260th doesn't mean we can't beat the world no. 1. We need to stay optimistic and stay in the best shape and play the best game possible. And always keep up the spirit and enthusiasm. That's how we win.

Brave East Belzaria holds on for first point

Postby East Belzaria » Mon Sep 03, 2018 10:20 am

EBSM Breaking News:

A 0-0 draw with Northwest Kalactin was more than anyone expected from East Belzaria after a 5-1 home loss to Saltstead. It was a top vs. bottom clash today, and East Belzaria took in the pressure. Harada Lopez, Johnathan Rodriguez and James Granger all contributed defensive masterclasses, not letting Northwest Kalactin into any dangerous positions. At one point, Kallestrom was forced into making a save after Rodriguez miscontrolled, but that was the only big danger. At the other end, Shad Radclyffe had a golden chance to win the game but instead chose to pass to Morty Beau who hit the post. The game ended 0-0 with East Belzaria claiming their first ever point in qualifying and also keeping their first ever cleansheet.

David Madridson and the entire team stayed behind to thank the traveling East Belzarian support. Madridson spoke to the press after the game. "I know I've been avoiding you guys" he said "But I've been busy rethinking our defensive shape. After leaking 7 goals in our first 2 games it was time for a more defensive minded approach, and it paid off." Harada Lopez also had things to say about the result, praising Madridson's tactics. "I owe my performance today to David, because he's helped me and everyone else here get better." He said. Morty Beau and Shad Radclyffe were interviewed about their chance to win the game. "I thought he [Shad Radclyffe] was going to shoot himself" says Beau "I wasn't expecting him to pass, and I panicked." Shad replied "I like to be an unselfish player, and in that case it cost us a chance to score. But I'll get back on the field and do whatever it takes to help East Belzaria perform well"

East Belzaria kicks off against Sorrentopia at the Complex A stadium in Belzarian Command. Tickets are already sold out, and the government mandated streaming service is getting more and more purchases every day. This country is getting swept up in the qualifying fever.

LOLITA, CH. 4

The next day, Bernie arrived at the Lelun Fatal five minutes earlier. It was a quaint little coffee shop that attracted many of Fedala's young intellectuals who still had the luxury of spending their days lounging at the universities and sitting in rooms where people hand held them through an education. There were dozens such students now, wearing their colorful fedora caps, leather vests, and whatever other article of clothing was the fad of the day. Bernie was dressed in a suit, sticking out like a sore thumb.

He scanned the tables, looking for Lolita. After a minute or so, he decided she hadn't arrived yet, so he took a two-person table near the back wall. Flagging down one of the servers, he ordered a cup of coffee, black, with a shot of whiskey. "I'll have a guest," he said. "She'll be here in about five minutes."

She was there in three. "Coffee, black. With a thumbnail of whiskey," she said when the waitress came back around.

"Wow, have you been stalking my food receipts?" he asked, half-jokingly. Only half, though, because with this woman anything is possible.

Her face contorted in disgust and snorted. "Why would I stalk you?" She leaned in close to him, and half-whispered, "You're not so good looking, Bern. Not good looking at all, in fact. I slept with you because you told me you were friends with Lakén Yori. Aw, how cute, did you think I actually liked you?"

"Well, you don't have to be so damn mean about it," he said. "Why did you bring me down here anyway? I can't force Lakén to give you attention."

"I'm over that," she replied. "I was just a scared, drunk girl when you found me, Bern. Just a scared, drunk, little girl. But I've grown up and you've helped me to do that, so I must thank you. And I'm going to start doing grown-up things, you know? It's only fitting. And the first grown-up thing I'm gonna do is sue your friend Lakén Yori."

Bernie spit out some of the coffee he had just sipped. Good thing they had gone heavy on the whiskey, he was going to need it. "Sue Lakén? For WHAT?"

The waitress came back with Lolita's coffee...and whiskey. Bernie made a mental note to change his order for next time. She took a sip, calmly, leveling that gorgeously green gaze at him. "For physical abuse, obviously," she said, finally. "That night you threw me out of the nightclub, that left me both physically and emotionally scarred. I'm sure you boys, so busy with your girls and booze, didn't notice and don't care. But us women have feeling too, you know. We breathe, think, and live much the same way you do. I know that's hard to understand for such a puny brain such as your own, but all I'm asking you to do is let your friend Lakén Yori, the midfielder, know."

"Emotional scarring?" he spat back. He shook his head and took another sip of coffee. He wasn't going to let himself lose his cool, not in front of this manipulating broad. "Emotional scarring?" he asked again, this time more gently. "That's ridiculous. You were thrown out of the nightclub for stalking. That's illegal, you know."

She smiled back. "These are different times," she said with that sweet voice of hers. "Anyway, even if I don't win, it's still bad press. Lakén Yori, the abuser. It's new contract season, I know that, and I'm sure your boy is looking for a chance to play in a bigger, more important international league. What kind of contract do you think they'll offer someone with so much baggage, pursued by lawyers and lawsuits? You think they want to import that kind of drama? No, they only want the clean players. Or, at least, the players smart enough to clean up the shit they leave behind them." She took another calm sip of her coffee.

"What did Lakén do to you?" he asked. "Nothing. It was all me. Sue me."

She literally laughed out loud. "But Bern, you have no money. Why would I sue you?"

"No looks, no money," he murmured.

"Aw," she said, "don't look so down. You're not alone. There are so many other guys who are average, just like you."

He put down his coffee mug. "You know what, I'm all coffeed out. I'll let Lakén know of your lawsuit. We'll get back to you...never." He stood to rise, throwing some bills and coins on the table to pay for his own coffee, but not Lolita's.

"That's no way to treat a lady," she said, looking at the money. "Sit down, we're not done."

Begrudingly, he did what he was told.

"Like I said," she continued, "this lawsuit can't be good for his image, I imagine. I mean, it might cost him tens of millions in lost contract opportunities. Not just this next one, but the one after that, and the one after that. Lakén is still young, after all."

Bernie nodded. "Yep, and you want a piece of that pie, don't you?"

She smiled. Gods, her smile was electrifying. But she was crazy, which pretty much nullified any male impulse Bernie may have felt. "That's right, Bern," she answered. "Two millions worth of that pie. Now go back to him. Warn him. However you decide to put it to him, tell him he has a week to pay me."

"And when we pay," he started asking, "you're not going to ask for more?"

Lolita giggled, "Bern, I'm a woman of my word."

"Yea, I really doubt that," he said. He threw some additional bills on the table to pay for her coffee. They were multi-colored, with thin strips of microscopically engraved slivers of metal embedded within the threads, from a local clearinghouse union. He said, before leaving, "You know, if you weren't crazy, I'd take you out for another spin."

"Bern, don't make me throw up. Besides, you should watch what you say, should I decide to charge your friend another million, just because I can," she threatened, still smiling.

He stormed out.

Too distraught to return to work, he called Anita, "Hey, I'll be taking the rest of the day off. Got too much on my mind right now. Tell the bosses I'm out with clients for the rest of the day. Yes, don't worry, I'll owe you."

After struggling in their first game of qualifying you could expect the Purple Knights of Taeshan to have a tough stretch to start their home qualifiers with a match against St Saratago, and then a second road trip of the young season to Caleblan. But the Purple Knights managed to impressive 3-0 victories in the two matches, and now look to move forward with strong play throughout especially from Captain Miles Snavely, and defensive midfielder Randall Abl Bakr impressing in the two matches. With the games being impressive overall from the Knights, it has a lot of fans hoping for their future chances in the tournament.

The first game was the opening home match of the qualifiers and they got a relative minnow in St Saratoga. A strong performance was started with a goal from Captain Miles Snavely. Within 15 minutes they were ahead and it never seemed from that moment that the game was in any doubt. The other striker Aleksandr Denisov made it 2-0 before the half as Snavely added an assist with an impressive through ball to the speedier Denisov. The Knights would control the play for the rest of the game, and finally added a third with Janson Jewsbury finding Geoffrey Klingenberg for the third goal in the last 10 minutes of the game.

The Knights then headed to an interesting place with their matchup against South Caleblan. In a game many were worried about, especially after a less than impressive away day in pre-qualifying friendlies against Unified Hispania. The Knights however continued their impressive form from the previous match with Randall Abl Bakr getting the assist on the Janson Jewsbury opener in the 11th minute. Geoffrey Klingenberg would make it 2-0 on a free kick. Finally substitute Alson Figeuroa scored his second career international goal to make it a 3-0 final.

REHAWKS STILL FLYING AND SHOWING THE CLAWS AT WC81
Image
Thas was the tittle from Loirgrunzodd Herald Sports Section

Our RedHawks are 1-1-1 for now on their first WC their first game against Carloso team that scored 3rd place in the previous BoF68 was goal festival ending the match on a 5-5 draw showing them what Alenburg is made specially a Hat Trick scored by our dear and youngest player New Dutchlander Dylan Smith i will give him a nomination to best young player of WC and two goals scored by Vladimir Rostov then we had our second game against Star United States winning the game with a wide margin 4-1 Vladimir this time the goals were scored by Jean-Pierre Du Plessis penalty,George Botha leaving four players on the including the GK and Mark Botha the surprise of the match scoring to Free Kick goal. Our third game until now was against Ko-Oren that for me is one of the strongest teams in the group ended with a 0-1 result our boys battled on this game and missed too many chances even the refs had to use the VAR to one play thanks to a free kick by Michael Batt that hit the crossbar the ball stopped on the line, player celebrated but at the end the ref said it was not a goal the match ended but our boys showed their quality and leave Alenburg"s name even higher.

Our next match is against Routcher this team is 1-2 they lost two games and won 1 so we expect and very fluent game with a lot plays, chances and attacks from our RedHawks so with a lot of good vibes specially here at Irbug.Clawtown were Irburg High School band is marching playing the anthem and using Halberds with our flag attached on it WC are strong my friends.

Dear Nana,

Mom found the journal you gave me when I was sixteen when she was cleaning out my room. I picked it up when I visited the house last and picked up my things. I moved into an apartment. Without roommates! Dad couldn't believe that a football player could make enough money to afford an apartment in Regium.

It's not the greatest apartment. It's not in Chancellor Park or anything. But Villanova is nice.

When you gave me the journal, you meant for me to start a journal. You said that by writing my thoughts and memories down they last longer than anything else, and that without memories we're nothing. Obviously, I didn't listen. But I should. I'm doing something different, and there I things I want to remember.

I played in my first national team game today. I've been on the roster, but I wasn't going to play much with Kerrian Odierne starting ahead of me. That's fine. I'm trying to learn and get better. I'm not just saywriting that, you know that. You're watching from heaven. Serving the country is an honor no matter how it is done. Grandpa knew that, you knew that, I know that.

Today wasn't particularly auspicious though.

Mercedini are good. Better than any team I've ever played against. They looked better than any team we had ever played against. I thought that was Eastfield Lodge was the best team we ever played, and they beat us. I thought it could have been Anthor, and we beat Anthor here. Mercedini was something like God's vengeance on a sinful Earth in the form of men.

Daniel Dostalok
Ben Chillotov

Their strikers are astounding. I read they were world class, and they are.

Chillotov is just one year older than me! He seemed more like an archangel than man.

I just reread this and I feel like I'm gushing like a girl and I'm really inclined to scratch that out and then cover it with marker and then throw this journal away but this is what it is and I should remember this.

Merecedini scored first and second and third. Dostalak, Chillotov, Chillotov. Brevalan Gaspard got us on the board on a set piece, and then Ross Presic scored for Mercedini, then Chillotov AGAIN, and then it was half-time.

The third Chillotov goal at 40 minutes. I need to know how he did that. How anyone could. It looked easy. Casual. Like it was an accident he scored a hat trick. He nutmegged through Margas' legs and then easy as can be just flicked the ball over Laurens Desainctvictori. Oops, I scored a goal? Insane.

Is nutmegged a word?

We were a rolling disaster. Half the team was just kind of slumped over, glassy eyed. Geoffroy Dlajoenie deyt Fijac talked with every single starter. I didn't catch any of it because Ifig Bonne-li-Donne was furious. FURIOUS. He grabbed Daric de l'Amie before we got into the locker room and was just yelling at him. "PUT ME IN. SIT THEM. THEY'RE NOTHING. THEY AREN'T HANDLING THIS." Pointing wildly. Spit going everywhere.

And he did. Five substitutions out of halftime and Daric moved from the sideline to the box and that was it. Out goes Desainctvictori, d'Annet, de Gentilli, Pique-Pain, and Odierne. In comes Friquan, Calenge, Petit, Bonne-li-Donne, and me.

They're called caps when you play in a multiversal match. They would give the first multiversal players caps for appearances? That seems weird. How many caps do you need? I just got up and looked around and I have four. I found one that had fallen behind the couch, so I'm glad I thought of it.

Walking back onto the Parade Ground it was louder than I had ever heard anything just walking out of the tunnel.

Just this long sustained

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOO

Kerrien Goncourt was as steady as anybody. He just squinted up at the crowd and looked back at us before he walked out and he saidyelled that the game was over but qualifying wasn't. We can still make something of the next 45 minutes.

The sound was something like a jet taking off next to your ear forever. A million bees. Hell. It didn't seem to ever start or pause, it did trail off as people left. I think they were still booing when I ducked out of the stadium in the end.

Bonne-li-Donne was fired up, still. Perhaps too much. He got yellow carded twice, the second time for just trying to steamroll through Johnny Markus. while Bonne-li-Donne had the ball. He had places to be, I guess.

Johannes Nymark started scoring in the second half. Calenge was trying to do too much and held the ball when he should have passed. Nymark took the ball and nothing stopped him.

We scored again. Finally. Pessiere and Dlajoenie deyt Fijac (Geoffrey has ice water for blood I swear) worked together to put together the last goal. A long crossing ball to a suddenly alone Ruran l’Ermite. I was running interference and they bit on it! I managed to pull along Thomas Di Sansev to free up Ruran.

But then two more Mercedini goals. We were trying too hard. If you clear the field ahead of you, you'll go score. I've done that, they'll do that, but it is the worst. Thomas Vorthik and Tim Crasic had a highway towards goal and they took it.

I almost scored. ALMOST. Mercedini had more or less parked the bus but I had something like a shot from just outside the area and I took it. It banged off the crossbar. The goalkeeper was nowhere near it. If I could have been on target.

We still lost though.

Spartan beat Pescium 8-3 last season. Pescium was on the road. I scored a hat trick against them. Pescium was a bad team. Does this mean we're a worse team?

Nana, I'm glad I play football. There's nothing like going out and scoring goals and winning games. Being the absolute, measurable best at something. To be the absolute best in the world? The multiverse? I can't even imagine. But I'd like to.

I don't want to ever lose a game like that ever again.

Love,

Nycollas

OOC Note: This post included a pretty obvious violation of the rules of football, which is fully my mistake. I'll change it if need be, but certainly will keep the correct rules in mind going forward.
