This is where all the sports news will be posted here. Remember, only Khytonya, its own puppets, or NS moderators can post in the thread here (unless permission is given).

So yeah, this is where I will post any news related to sports both local and international. Don't expect any heavy RP here because I'm saving my energy for the next World Cup Cycle. This thread acts as an archive for previous sports RPs. I keep them for recording purposes. Thank you.

These are all of the articles recorded while participating in the tournaments. These include news results, interviews, POV interactions, etc. Click on the links to see the story. They will be more as time goes by.

*Football*
*AOCAF 62 (Banija and Busoga Islands): Fair Beginnings*

For the first time since the Royal Khytonian Football Association's foundation, Khytonya participated in the AOCAF 62. This tournament features some of the best footballing nations around Atlantian Oceania, a football-crazed region filled with passion and energy within their own football fans. Since it's their debut, Khytonya won't be the favourites to lift the trophy. But one question still remains: how do they perform against some of the greatest football teams out there?

*Baptism of Fire 74: World Cup Warm Ups*

There's nothing short of glory and despair from the last tournament when the Magical Bhoys are out of the competition. However, no one should give up hope so easily as the next cup is just around the corner. The Baptism of Fire is a tournament comprised of first-time nations hoping to have the first taste of football on a multi-regional level. With so many nations partaking in this debut cup, Khytonya will need to make their first impression and a memorable one to boot. Can they prove themselves victorious?

*FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS*
Hockey in Khytonya had been around for a century with its roots tracing as far as the late 1890s. Amateur teams were formed by those who found interest in this new sport during its early years. Its spread of popularity was quite small, though; it widens only as far the cities along the Bordering River in which ferries and boats were the main staples of transportation between cities.

Each region in Khytonya formed their own hockey league with a set of their own teams, though the majority of them were non-professional. Many of which began to popularise hockey as everyday people turned up to watch the game. Hockey, along with football, was pretty much everyone’s favourite pastime. At any point in their lives, people dreamt of skating through the icy cold area.

Perhaps the most famous amateur league was the Arlecdon Amateur Hockey League, which was arguably the first time a hockey league was organised in Khytonya (they were formed in 1909). It brought in the likes of the Fruihen Olympiques (1898), who were the earliest team to play hockey, and the Stirling Saltires (1904), whom the league almost suspended them for covertly paying their own players with money; it was against the rules at the time. As the 1920s began to hit the era of professionalism of sports, it wouldn’t be far long for hockey to be presented with.

*THE RHA WAS BORN*
In 1925, the Royal Hockey Association was born out of a few mergers of different amateur leagues. Its charter members of the team consisted mainly of those who played in the Arlecdon Amateur Hockey League (AAHL) and the Savorian League of Hockey (SLH).

Those who played in the AAHL include the Clydesdale Nationals, the Stirling Saltires, and the Pradostadt Indians. On the other hand, the Ñumërasy Lagers and the Frueihen Olympiques represent the SLH. The Sipitang Bears came from the Great Lakes Hockey League while the Oriental Minor Hockey Association gave the league the Fontana Chancellors.

Initially, the RHA was meant to start the season with just seven teams in its beginning. However, on September 31st, 1925, it was announced that Emperor David III of Jesselton completely merged all of the remaining teams in the Murrayfield Amateur Hockey Association to form one of the most celebrated sports team in Khytonian sports history: The Murrayfield Emperors. This brought the league into 8 teams, which balances out the conferences that the organisers want.

The inaugural season of the RHA received moderate success. Thousands of fans packed the arenas to watch the teams played against each other in a sport that grew wildly popular amongst every citizen in Khytonya. After 48 games between November and March, the league hosted its first playoff series with a best-of-three qualifying format. During that time, the Chelsea Nationals had been smashed horribly by the Frueihen Olympiques while the Murrayfield Emperors booked their place in the finals after a close-fought game with the Ñumërasy Lagers.

With the championship taking place between the Emperors and the Olympiques, the RHA was set to begin their first tournament finals. In the best-of-three matchup, the Emperors have crowned champions after captain and future Hall of Famer Henry Treacher miraculously scored the game-winning goal through the five-hole of well-known goaltender Frank Geithner of Frueihen. The President of the RHA, Anton von Overbeck, presented the Emperors with a large silver cup with two handles on each side and an engraved picture bearing the coat of arms of the House of Jesselton; this was personally donated by Grand Emperor David III of Jesselton himself. From then on, the Jesselton Cup was truly born.

*THE EARLY YEARS AND THE GREAT DEPRESSION*
Throughout the mid-1920s, the Royal Hockey Association seemed to pick up positive reputation each and every season. In that lifespan, all teams continued their dominance on-ice with the championship game featuring different teams facing off each other. The Murrayfield Emperors carried over the success from their opening season with the likes of Henry Treacher, and wingers Roderick Constantineau and Lloyd Blackburn winning the next two Jesselton Cup finals, beating the likes of the Nationals and the Chancellors. Meanwhile, the Olympiques proved to be the iron wall no one can break through thanks to Geithner’s effort and determination and smart defenseman Mike Connaught. These two teams would eventually form an ageless rivalry in what would be known as the ‘Classical Game’.

Other teams attempted to build their own dynasties, such as the Lager who were led by goal-scoring center Taori Buydony (pronounced Boo-don-yee), the Chancellors with the help of ‘Flying’ Guy Horton (whom his nickname was derived for his supernatural-like speed) and the Nationals reigning supreme with an all-rounder-based skillset personified by head coach Rob Tomlinson. All had various success rates. In spite of the newfound popularity, the start of the 30s was the beginning of the rough times.

The Great Depression of 1930 seemingly hurt the league badly. At the end of the 1933/34 season, the Sipitang Bears and the Pradostadt Indians were forced to suspend operations after a massive financial loss, bringing the RHA to six teams. To make matters worse in the following season, a communist revolution (called the ‘Blood Eagle’ Revolution) ground the league to a halt as violence and massacres ravaged around Khytonya before it resumed operations 5 years later.

President von Overbeck tried to revive the Indians and the Bears by selling the team to another owner in hopes of garnering interest but to no avail. He needed a spark to set the hockey league on fire once again. Yet, von Overbeck had to wait for the next six years to fulfill his wish. In the meantime, he’d had to go on with the show with only six teams in the RHA which, luckily enough, maintained its popularity despite canceling the season due to a bloody revolution.

*THE FIRST EXPANSION*
In the years between the late 30s and the early 40s, President von Overbeck needed an assistant to oversee potential expansion cities and keep the franchises in check while he deals with the public relations with the hockey fans. Less than a few days, Grand Prince Edward of Brookeston offered up to him and accepted the role as Vice President of the RHA. Edward had a keen interest in hockey since the inception of the league and was deeply determined to tap into the sports market in the cities he was planning.

The first objective was to revive the fallen franchises who suffered disastrous financial problems. To achieve this, Prince Edwards held up meetings with two young entrepreneurs: Jude McKee, a Sipitang native and honorary graduate of Business and Entrepreneurship at Sipitang Polytechnics, and Darwin Burton, son of a rich tycoon of a chain of supermarkets Tom Burton. Both agreed to resurrect the two teams respectively provided they were supported financially and given the first (for Lake Tuaran) and second (for Pradostadt) picks of the RHA entry draft which had been introduced for the first time thanks to league’s sponsorship with several different minor leagues.

McKee named the restored team the Lake Tuaran Prefects (Lake Tauran because its new ice rink was located nearby the lake and ‘Prefects’ as a tribute to Head Prefect of Khytonya Dorian Lepreau) while Burton consulted with the Yänderey tribe for his permission to use their name for the Pradostadt team, to which High Chief Kryou accepted. After 12 years of dormancy in the hockey league, Pradostadt and Lake Tuaran were back on track. As a reward for their patience, the Prefects chose a youthful winger Lincoln Moult whereas the Yändereys debuted legendary goaltender Bruce Pembroke.

The next mission was to expand the league to new cities. Prior to Grand Prince Edward’s involvement, von Overbeck had plans to include four cities with the full potential of growing interest in hockey. These include Liverpool, Dundee, Mojuntin and Fort Nedoryca. If the expansion idea was put into action, it would bring the RHA to a whopping 12 teams with 6 in each division. Thankfully, two minor league teams requested to join the RHA after news spread about the expansion programme: The Mojuntin Hawks from the Oriental Minor Hockey Association, where the Fontana Chancellors used to play, and the All Erdington Hockey League’s Liverpool Comets who had been entirely successful prior to them joining the league.

Only the other two left in their league expansion checklist and things had gone good to better. It seemed that Grand Prince Edward had done brilliantly well with his job as Vice President. All he had to do now was to award Dundee and Fort Nedoryca the hockey franchise, and he managed to achieve just that! At the beginning of the 1945/46 season, Anton von Overbeck announced that four new teams were debuting for the first time alongside with the other two former charter members coming back. The expansion was a colossal success.

The new teams that were included in the Royal Hockey Association were named the Dundee Stingers (Dundee were the largest producer of honey at the time) and the Gren-Nedöryca Gunners (Fort Nedoryca was the main hub of weapons and artillery manufacturing). Meanwhile, before the season went underway, there had been two teams who changed their name. The Mojuntin Hawks were purchased by Penampang Railways’ CEO Carey Leiking and rebranded as the Express while the Liverpool Comets’ owner Harry Farmer renamed his team to the Sweet Devils, in tribute to the nickname of godfather turned folk hero Matteo Benso. This contributes to an increase of games per season. It went from 48 games when it began to 72 games, still maintaining that each team played each other six times.

*THE ‘RAIL AND RIVER’ ERA*
Long before planes existed, teams traveled far from their home ice to play against other teams either by ferry across the Bordering River or by train linked with major cities around Khytonya. This was the beginning of the ‘Rail and River’ Era, which started the fresh era with the election of new RHA President and legendary player Henry Treacher, who replaced Anton von Overbeck following his retirement in 1946. To kick off his reign, he created the Player’s Union of the Royal Hockey Association (PURHA for short) for the purpose of dealing with problems and issues in regards to players.

During those years, a handful of teams won the Jesselton Cup each season. The Murrayfield Emperors continued their dominance in the cup with their all-out attack style of play thanks to offensive center and captain Riley Geithner, son of retired player Frank Geithner. He led the team to six Jesselton Cup finals in a row, picking up three back-to-back title wins in the process in 1946, 1947, 1953, 1954, 1957 and 1958. The same can be said with the Chelsea Nationals and their fast-paced strategy as personified by the trio of Eddie McClain, Ryan Vorlander and George Kelsen, and the Lake Tuaran Prefects leading a point-per-game pace with the help of first-round pick Lincoln Moult who went on to win the newly-created Treacher Trophy (whom the President himself was named after) for scoring the most goals in the season.

In contrast with offensively-minded teams, the Frueihen Olympiques were much defensive compared to some other teams. It was partly due to Frueihen’s tight defence that kept the puck out of their zone as specialized by famed head coach David Harty. The Pradostadt Yändereys and the Sweet Devils of Liverpool each had one of the greatest goaltenders to ever graced between the pipes. Yändereys’s young rookie Bruce Pembroke and the Sweet Devils' veteran Guy Valény were the pinnacle of indestructible defence assisted by Liverpool defensemen Reid Horton and Humphrey Barilko; and Pradostadt's Sam Dalton and defensive winger Lawrence Wright, who was the first black player to break the colour barrier in the RHA.

Alternatively, the new expansion teams favoured a more balanced style of play rather than just purely attacking or defending. Possibly one of the most well-known dynasties in Khytonian sports history was the Dundee Stingers. They became an instant hit in the box office as fans witnessed the likes of star sniper Bobby Dougherty and playmaker Peter Renfrew, backed up by hard man Alex Deschamps and goal stopper Chris Emerson, went on a fiery unbeaten streak in the 1958/59 season, drawing only three games out of 72 games per season. They also shared a rivalry with the RHA’s founding member the Chelsea Nationals, forming the ‘Caledonian Classic’ (it was such named for the Scottish heritage of both cities).

At the end of the 1959/60 season, there were tons of rumours circulated about the future of hockey in Khytonya. First, there were a few more cities intended to obtain a hockey franchise, including the other two cities planned to be awarded by the RHA but never accomplished. President Treacher put an end to the speculations by stating that the league would stay as a 12 team league after an agreement by the members of the organisation.

Next, a new league was supposed to emerge as an alternative to the Royal Hockey Association starting at the 1962/63 season. Evidence had shown that a group of investors were inspired by the popularity of the hockey league and were willing to start their own version. Another claimed that one of the investors involved in the rumour was jealous of Henry Treacher and his league’s undeniable success. He was reportedly eager for their new hockey league to grow into a great competitor to the Royal Hockey Association and eventually securing its future popularity, For the moment, it looked as if the league was simply standing alone as a top-level elite sports league. Suddenly, in 1967, hockey was about to enter a new era of rivalry and challenge.

*RHA VERSUS UPL*
Earlier until 1967, a new group called Followers of St. Sebastian (FSS) was formed by a team of six wealthy investors, all of whom were ecstatic on hockey. Whilst having a discussion at a restaurant, they were setting up strategies for the creation of the new league, including its expansion cities they initially planned to award franchises with and even the players from the RHA that were supposed to be enticed with. Hoping to get them off to a great start, the group hired sports promoter, Alexander Kjellberg.

Kjellberg, formerly a minor league linesman, noticed that the RHA focused too much on cities on the smaller part of East Coast Khytonya and didn’t expand itself further to the West and beyond, where hockey already gained attractiveness from sports fans. Consequently, in 1967, he and FSS formed the Universal Premier League (UPL for short). They’d encouraged many franchisors whose cities were shunned by the RHA’s Department of Athletic Club Expansion to join in their newly-created league and set up their first ever entry draft to rob the star players from their rival hockey league.

Zhongming Pistons
Bofukaji Sheriffs
Ipsden Archers
Duyong City Manatees

At the start of the league, six teams were formed by the UPL with one of them located at the Eastern part. This included Telipok, Zhongming, Bofukaji, Nanmen, Duyong City and Yarmouth. Next, Kjellberg held the entry draft as a set up for the charter members’ opening starting squad. During the draft, they stole Lawrence Wright and rookie defenseman Tom Maher (both of the Sweet Devils); Chris Emerson (of the Stingers); wingers Aiden Bush and Steve Kennedy (both of the Nationals); and an old, but experienced Lincoln Moult (of the Prefects). The league also drafted its young players from junior leagues. The highlight of the UPL’s inaugural entry draft was the introduction of all-time icon and Royal Khytonian Sports Hall of Famer Maxwell Garibaldi, who was merely 14 years old when he entered his hockey career professionally by making his entrance with the Bofukaji Sheriffs.

The Universal Premier League was a big hit amongst every hockey fan across Khytonya. Not only it gave hockey-enthusiastic cities outside of Eastern Khytonya a chance to show off their potential caliber, but it also helped further the popularity to other places down south and up north where football or baseball was primarily played and loved. When it held its own championship finals (dubbed the St. Sebastian Cup, after the investor group who founded their league), the attendance record beat out the number of fans watching the 1967 Jesselton Cup finals. As a result of this surge of popularity, the RHA found itself facing against a giant killer slowly conquering them in front of the organisation’s eyes. Henry Treacher was determined not to bow down before Alexander Kjellberg and the Followers of St. Sebastian. It was not an easy objective, though, as it required him to quickly expand the RHA to cities that the UPL planned to add in their list of teams; something that Treacher feared it would fail miserably.

At the UPL’s third season (1969/70), they were seemingly winning the battle with four new teams joining the league after it ended: The Pyongseun Tigers, the Nanmen Crystal Knights, the Wiltshire Stags and the Astria Aces. The UPL even made a bold move by bringing in ‘Iron Lady’ goaltender Amy Kalashnikova to the Telipok Templars, which saw the first time a major sports league drafted a female athlete. Kjellberg was satisfied with his work and effort done to positively turn normal citizens into hockey fanatics in all of Khytonya. However, things took an unexpected twist for Khytonian hockey as everyone-not just the Universal Premier League-shook the whole world in the form of a terrible outrage...
