Nexus Racing HQ, Crossbay Circuit, Nimbus Bay, the Nexus Wardship of Former Citizens of the Nimbus System
28th of May

Victoria Light closes her mouth over the last bit of date pie, gazing intently at a single table a few metres away or, more specifically, at its seat’s occupant (since both are sitting at one of the individual tables that sit around the quieter outside of Nexus Racing’s canteen). Wiping her hand over her mouth - and then licking her forefinger - she picks up her tray and wanders with it over to the hatch. Briefly, she thanks the man who comes to take it for the meal, an entirely genuine sentiment, and accompanies it with a smile.

The smile is fake. After all, the memories still stand at the back of her mind, exerting their sorrowful gravity with constant, overpowering weight.

The three of them stand in their room, gazing with horror at the scene displayed on their monitors. Jean Mercer-Daly’s Chase Cutter lies shattered and aflame at the Turn of the Century, millions of coins of machinery rent asunder in a moment. Ambulances’ flashing blue lights cast their radiance upon the Esmerelian’s broken form as he is lifted from the wreck, his left arm twisted beyond natural motion.

Tiffany begins to sob; Alex goes to hug her, moving almost unconsciously in his shock, and she holds to him desperately. Her keening is the most painful, piercing sound that Victoria has ever heard.

You could have prevented this. You all knew what was happening in that race - and you were all too blind to know what that might mean. You most of all - you’re meant to be their leader! Instead, you robbed a man of half his limbs and almost committed manslaughter! That’s your fault!
Your faul-

Slam.

Victoria gasps for breath as she closes the door into her room behind her - hard. She closes her eyes, putting her hand to her head, and works to force her frantic intakes of air to become steady, controlled. In - 1 Imagination - out - 2 Imagination - in - 3 Imagination -

Even as she does so, she walks over to her bedside and flops, back landing upon her bed. Too mentally exhausted to grasp fitfully for her headphones, she instead brings one arm across to swipe at her keyboard. Her playlist fires up.

The music is tinny, underwhelming. Rather than raising her drive and emotion with it as it usually does, it now clashes. The discordance, for once, is unbearable.

Victoria rubs her forehead, then runs her hand through her flaxen hair. No headway made yet, despite Alex’s efforts. Imagination… I can’t keep doing this to myself, for my own sake. Everyone else’s, too. I need a distraction. She chuckles somewhat sardonically at that thought; she’s had a specific distraction in mind for a little while now.

If she can’t solve her own problems, why not help with someone else’s?

A moment brings her to Ryker’s room, just down the corridor. She knocks; the result is a vaguely surprised and curious but simultaneously tired, “Come in?” Upon opening it, Ryker’s expression is easy to read: it matches those same qualities exactly. “Ah… Victoria? Good to see you, I guess, but - umm - why are you here?”

Victoria breathes, then looks up. “I just thought you might want to chat. That’s all.”

Strovoz International Airport, Lapiz Point, Vespucci, Esmerel
1st of August

Timothy Guard looks around the inside of Esmerel’s principal airport - or, more specifically, of its concourse - admiring the architecture. It certainly shows that Esmerel is one of the few nations that can match us for technological development.

They do not have Imagination, of course.
He smirks to himself. There is that.

He glances up at the arrivals board, looking to the incoming flight from Alexander Arrios. A good name. ‘First City’ and so on is practical, of course, Guard considers, but actual names are… Pleasant. They add charm.

And so he waits - and turns to his left. “Not so much longer now,” he affirms; “her flight is due to land within the next minutes. “Your ‘a little while’ should be at an end soon.”

Valen Song grins, nodding. “Fantastic. Ah, but it’ll be good to see Rebecca again. We work well together.”

We are most grateful for your acceptance of our offer! Transportation has been arranged from Vankkavalta International Airport to our headquarters at Crossbay Circuit, where there will be fully-catered accommodation available for you throughout the season should you wish to utilise it, via the Nimban Terrarail subway system on the 2nd of August; we will send a member of our team to meet you.

Karl Rain, Nexus Racing Head of Communications and Public Relations

The airport terminal at Vankkavalta is of typical Nordic design, modern and abstract in shape and constructed of slate-grey stone and glass; the inside is spacious, the air warm, crisp and easy on the lungs.

Ryker Lane, wearing his RMEO exosuit underneath a navy blue jumper and jeans, accompanied by sash that he had taken to wearing on the right shoulder during WGPC 16, a green one this time, notices all of these things - a noteworthy event in itself. Looking up from the printed copy of the letter, he gazes around the lobby of the building to take it in. It… It does make for a nice change from our own construction. Lots of light colours in ours. This is…

He searches for the word.

Ah…

Atmospheric. Yes. That.

He looks around. Hopefully they’ll be here soon. Hopefully Terho will be here; he’ll be nice to see. If it’s just Janne, though, that’ll be good too. Things to learn. On both sides.

After a moment of stillness, he jumps up and down a few times, trying to get some energy into his system. Waiting - even wallowing - in inactivity will do nothing for him, after all.

Sam couldn't let his boss know about this. Not that a 4th driver had got away. Make him think that getting whoever he got now would be who he wanted all along. Therefore, he walked into the office of his Scout Captain, Jimmie Bruyn

"Hey, Jimmie."

"Ade got away?"

"How....how would you know that?"

"1. You're coming into my office and 2. You're drinking an Ultra Chip Coffiecino. You only drink those when you're tired. You're tired because you've been overworking, because you lost Ade."

"Jeez, you read my mind. But let's get to the chase. I need a driver. Stat. Which means I need reports. Stat."

"I got you, bro."

Jimme lays out a set of files on the desk. Sam reads through each, but one catches his eye.....

"Hey, who's this Dahl gal?"

"Dalia Dahl. Eastfield Lodge. Not reliable at all, but a heck of a driver. She's a older Laukkanen."

"Couple problems though: What the heck is up with these results? I mean, she's decent domestically, but she's a train wreck in WGP2."

"I figure that we can fix that. She was 21 then, so now has a full more year of experience behind her, albeit problematic ones. You're sure you don't want to go with Lynds, though?"

"Nah, Dahl will compliment Erik better. Lynds' stats are practically the same as Erik's. As long as we can shape her up to have better qualifying finishes, she'll be a dark horse that could propel us up the points table."

"Ok then. Knock yourself out. Take the file with you."

"Thanks, Jimmie."

"Any day."

Tanielu Felafa was sitting in his office with Niko Ausage. ''So, we still need someone to man the 2nd driver seat. Predofski is good, but I don't see us having any chance unless we get him a decent teammate,'' Tanielu said as he was looking through the paperwork with Niko, ''did you schedule the test with Falepeau already? I want to see him running at least a few laps before we go on with signing him.''

Niko raised his hand to cut Felafa out: ''Well, actually, I contacted Falepeau and, apparently he has signed with MRT2 already. Looks like they beat us there.'' Tanielu raised his eyebrows. ''MRT2? You're telling me that Falepeau actually managed to secure a spot in MRT2?'' having taken a deep breath, he continued: ''Well, looks like we need to step up our game. What other choices do we have left?''

''Honestly, things don't look all that good anymore. Most of the drivers and teams have deals set in place, others are racing to sign the last few ones. Driver pool is getting smaller every day. I really don't see any great choices here, unless...'' Niko left his sentence unfinished, which caused Felafa to verbally push him a little. ''Unless?'' said Tanielu, waiting for Niko to continue. ''Unless, what if we, say, gave a chance to someone from our youth programme?'' Niko looked at Tanielu, who looked at him back with a tad bit skeptical look on his face. ''Do you have any specific names or was that just a hypothetical question?''

Niko took out a paper from his folder on the table and gave it to Tanielu, pointing at a small profile picture of a young driver printed on it. ''This guy right here. Domestic go-kart league champion. He clearly lacks the experience Falepeau has, but from what I've seen, he is a driver that could go to places with enough time and training committed. He has potential, and honestly, he is a rather intelligent driver. Unlike most of the reckless children you see in go-karting nowadays.''

Tanielu looked at the paper handed to him, it was a driver CV of Isaia Fanene. ''He looks really young, how old is he?''

''Seventeen. Yes, he is young, but I believe he is ready to take a step forward. It is going to be a risk, but... honestly, the one who takes no risks drinks no champagne either, heh?'' Niko smirked, looking at Tanielu. ''Yeah, true,'' Tanielu smirked back, ''Well, I guess I'm gonna have to trust you. Besides, I don't think we have enough time to scout anyone else either. Pre-season test is almost here, and neither is the start of the season very far. We'll give him a chance and see what he can do.''

Niko nod to Tanielu and stood up, taking his stuff with him. After he left, Tanielu sent out a few messages and pulled a few strings. Eventually, it was decided. Kaylan Racing Team signed Isaia Fanene as their #2 driver for WGP2 S2.

Yarkovo, SVJ Racing Headquarters

"Unfortunate". Jussi Parjamäki shook his head and puts down the file in his hands, containing the driver's reports of his scouting team. He lays them out again, this time not only without Janne Laukkanen but also without the file about Ade Imoju, the Vangazi having signed with Omni. "What about Dom Falepeau? We observed him, right? And he seems talented". "Signed with MRT. No test driving involved, apparently. We need to step up our game and offer people something", Head Scout Rjurik Marlund said. "I'm not gonna put anyone into the SVJ-01 for a season without having seen them drive it", Jussi answered. He had wanted Laukkanen, be it just to minimise language issues and because he held Terho Talvela in high esteem. Having been out-navigated by Nexus, a team regarded with some strange fascination but also a cool distance in Savojarna, had hurt him a bit. Imoju would have had a big pull, both for Savojar sponsors and for the home fans, who had taken a liking to VMR and especially Jess Franssen's duels with Bjarnason in the WGPC. Jussi looked at the remaining files. "Anyone else that we look at?", he asked. Marlund pointed to the file on the right end of the line.

"Jama'abo Pegasii", he said before being interrupted by Jussi. "Jama-what?", the principal said with the look of someone who wasn't sure whether he had not listened properly, was going mad or simply had been the victim of a stupid joke. In short, he was rather confused by the name, but even more so by what it seemed to imply: "A Vilitan?". Marlund sighed, clearly having expected this reaction by his boss. "It's racing, not ice hockey. And he's fast. Anyway, he's willing to come out to Yarkovo and test. But apparently Superia is also interested", he said. "Pegasii would be a decent choice, Jussi. V&T has some racing tradition and if he rose through their youth programs, he's probably skilled. He seemed very fast, and SARA care about results. As long as we're not signing a Juven or Euran - not that either of them race much - they won't say anything against it, and they pay my salary, not the fans", he tried to sell his decision. "Why does Tropicorp not sign him?", the principal asked, still sceptical of the choice given the rivalry between Vilita and Turori and Savojarna. The two had crossed paths once or twice too often in football and ice hockey, and cooperation in racing, he feared, may lead to issues with the fans.

"They want their cocoabos, I guess. And then... why do we not sign a Savojar #2 driver?" "Tourism? In Vilita and Turori? Never seemed like the place to need the boost, but sure", Jussi said. "He can come testing the car. But Rjurik, you said that Lisander wanted him too?" Rjurik smiled on the inside, knowing that he scored an important victory. Once Jama'abo Pegasii would drive the SVJ satisfyingly, the principal would give in. "Yes, according to the rumours. God knows if they are true. Maybe we're lucky this time though". Now it was Jussi's time to sigh. "And if not? Any backup plans? Or do I have to explain to SARA that they need to provide a second driver for us?", he asked, increasingly dripping with the sarcasm of a man who didn't only lose three negotiations, but also a battle over whom to start the next one with. He simply didn't have arguments against Pegasii anymore, and the one he had - "A Vilitan for SVJ?" - didn't seem to bother Rjurik much.

The scout pulled out another file. "Miguel Santos, Dreamplanet, signed to EVolution though. Apparently he didn't want to drive in something sensible instead of the light battlecruiser they call a WGP2 car in Azadeshia. Edward Baker, Krainin. Rumour has it that Superia is also interested in him, but they can only sign one driver, right?", he chuckled nervously. Jussi joined his amusement, somehow managing to relieve the tension in the room a little bit. "I guess so. Maybe we should reach out to him, just in case. Anyone else? I heard there are some more guys and girls around, or half the teams will race without a full lineup", he said. "Not sure to be honest. Julic looked talented but was already signed. Randy McNielson never raced outside of Northwest Kalactin's mysterious national championship; seems to be faster than Nate Jackson, but then you've seen him in WGPC. Dahl or Lynds will probably opt for SinVal, and we have very little information about either. And the rest are all rather unknown, but maybe worth a try", he finished.

"I guess we'll hope for the best in regards to Pegasii. Even if it's a Vilitan", Jussi chuckled, "the bastards usually have talent. Invite Baker for a test too, though".

BREAKING NEWS: EVRT2 confirm Miguel Santos

After some speculation as to where Miguel Santos would start, EVRT2 have confirmed that they will sign up Miguel Santos for half a season. If Santos does well, EVRT2 added, he will be given a longer contract. Aaryan Singh Thakur, the CEO of EVRT2, has said "I believe Miguel Santos is a great driver and one of the best to drive the T-4440", and then adding "I am looking forward to Santos performing well and if he does well till half season, we will extend his contract and pay more."

Miguel Santos had an interview after the confirmation, saying "This car feels great, it's just the tough and fast car that i needed, the car seems to be balanced on a knife-edge of letting you drive the way you want it to and being careful, i'll have to see how the pre-season goes along." There are some doubts with the T-4440 though, some say it is too powerful for it's own good and also that technology is not the focus of the racing team, however Aaryan Singh Thakur responded with "This is just for WGP2, just think what we will do for the 1st tier racing."

The pre-season training will be this weekend, over at the Mount Salt Raceway in Eastfield Lodge.

SinVal Motorsports Centre
Port Lodgertia, Eastfield Lodge

It's often said that nothing in motorsport is predictable. The fastest drivers in the fastest cars aren't always the shoe-in for the win. Accidents happen, car parts fail, drivers are human (mostly) and make judgement errors, the weather plays its fickle hand, tires are unreliable. And so on the list goes. However, when it comes to international formula racing, one thing is for certain. The Eastfielder team will always have a problem going into the new season. The joint MSA-SinVal venture that began the foray into team ownership had the ... misfortune, shall we say, of employing Louis Krindle as a driver. Supremely talented driver, for sure. But also one with a penchant for finding the wall, a gravel pit, or another car, almost as often as he found the chequered flag. Various issues in development mean that it's always a race against time even to get a car ready for the pre-season tests. And this season, the first time MSA will not be in the Constructors' Championship, is seemingly no different.

Fortunately, in Laurencia Lynds, they had a solid dependable driver. The Serenelian was stood with the engineers and the mechanics after the last run, watching as they figured out ways to fix the engine's flywheels, which had developed a tendency to fly loose during fast, hard corners. SinVal were trying out a brand new fuel system, having opted to experiment and create a new hybrid system - whilst hydrocarbon-based engines weren't a problem in the Imperial Commonwealth due to quite innovative pollutant converter modules fitted to all polluting cars and building, they were a problem in many countries around the multiverse, and hence the decision to change from the traditional fuel engines that SinVal previously supplied to the joint MSA-SinVal venture to a brand new hybrid racing engine. But of course, new developments take time to get right. And so, as ever, Eastfielder motorsports once again proves its predictable incompetence in the grand scheme of an otherwise unpredictable sport.

Dalia Dahl
Lodgertia, Eastfield Lodge

Dalia was one unhappy bunny. Two years ago, she was the newfound star of Eastfielder motorsport, the undisputed successor to the WGPC superlicense that had been vacated by Louis Krindle and Victoria Gardner the year before. Described as a younger Krindle, whose reckless, throw-caution-into-the-wing driving style she adored and emulated, she went into the inaugural WPG2 season as a bright spark. The other license was given to some teenaged test driver, nobody knew or cared about him. God, she hated Cesaro with every fibre of her being. That upstart stole her thunder, even though she won a race at the start of the season. Almost double her points, somehow, at the end, and even nearly dragging helping his team to the Constructors'. And then last year, the nail in the coffin. Cesaro Whittaker got the nod in the MSA team ahead of her, and somehow there wasn't a single team that wanted her on board. What was loyalty these days? Sure didn't count for much, it seems. She revelled in every failure of the team last season, whilst she went back to crushing the competition on the domestic scene for the last time in its current format, with the rumours of a WGP3 series coming to the Imperial Commonwealth.

Frustrated, she threw a dart at the board in front of her, conveniently spearing through the left eye of Cesaro's picture - not what many would call a healthy fixation, in all honesty, but that has become Dalia's way of coping, in private. As for the current WGP2 season, she'd just sat back and waited to see what would happen. Nothing. No interest in her whatsoever, it seemed. She was talented, surely people could see that? She was given a WGPC Superlicense, not many could say that. She was a WGPO race winner, even fewer could say that. As she reached for the final dart on the table next to her, her phone buzzed. A message, it seemed.

Good evening Sam,

Thanks for the offer to race with your team. I'll gladly accept the race seat this season, and want you to know you've made the right choice.

Thanks,

A chance for redemption, now in her grasp. Unlike the last dart, which was now firmly nestled in Cesaro's mouth.

Alaina Navarro
SinVal Motorsports HQ
Lodgertia, Eastfield Lodge

Alaina just could not wait until the car was finally ready. She was team principal, and yet she was still hamstrung by the fact that, in traditional Eastfielder fashion, the car wasn't even test-ready less than a week before the first test, on home soil nonetheless. The home team needed to come out and not be embarrassed. The higher-ups had told her to wait until the car was ready to be tested before inviting any drivers over for trials. Laurencia was already the shoe-in for the first drive, but the second seat remained open.

At least the news from the Port Centre was good. Most of the issues had been ironed out, barring the weirdness that was going on with the flywheel. At the very least, it was enough for her to start sending out invites. She'd had enough of sitting on the sidelines and waiting for things to happen; whilst she was doing that, the rest of the field had made moves and snapped up a lot of promising drivers. There wasn't much of a gap between the test and the start of the season either; she needed to move fast. And then she had an idea. A great idea, but one that could backfire on them massively.

Subject: WGP2 SinVal Testing

Dear all,

I understand many of you are struggling to find a seat, with limited teams in the running and a surplus in the driver pool. SinVal will be holding a driver testing session straight after the Mount Salt Circuit Pre-Season Test. I humbly invite all of you to participate in this test, in order to race in the second seat for the SinVal team in the upcoming WGP2 season. The successful driver will be selected on their past racing history along with their results on the day, and also how well they integrate with the team. I look forward to your replies, and to seeing on the day those of you who wish to race with us as well.

Yours sincerely,

The Eastfielder Guide to: Grand Prix of the Imperial Commonwealth
Image

The Track
Located: Mount Salt City, Eastfield Lodge
Length: 4,420m
Average elevation: 1,227m above sea level
Elevation change: 78m
- Highest point: Turns 8 and 9
- Lowest point: Pit Lane, corresponding Pit Straight
Pit Lane time (not incl. time in pit box): 23.2 seconds
Average air termperature (April/May): 21 degrees C
Average track temperature: 34 degrees C

Mount Salt Raceway is a relatively new purpose-built circuit, and became the show-piece event for every domestic motorsport calendar. The track is a blend of quite a few high speed, corners and long straights - the kilometre long pit straight is one of the longest in Eastfield Lodge - but there also plenty of slow corners to test the cars and the drivers.

Starting just after the halfway point of the start-finish straight, the drivers sprint the first 400m to the tight right hand first corner - enough to spread the field a little and also an opportunity to make up for lost ground. The corner isn't difficult, but it does need precision in order to carry speed up the hill to the second corner, where the drivers will find a mirror image of the first corner. A short straight before we reach the Turn 3 hairpin, where the prevailing wind can scatter a fine layer of salt, originating from a salt plain near the mountains, over the corner.

Passing through the chicane (Turns 4 and 5), we come to the hardest section of the circuit; a long climb up the hill on a shallow left hander, before taking a sharp left at Turn 7. The combination of the hill and the wall close to the inside of the track results in drivers being more or less blind until the last moment before Turn 7, making for some good action for crowd to watch. The wall on the exit of 7 was added a little later, just to add to the danger.

The track then levels out at its highest point as the drivers take two right handers at Turns 8 and 9, before taking the long right hander at Turn 10 back down the hill and braking hard for turn 11. Little braking needed for Turn 12, and then it's down another hill, reaching the simple Turn 13/14 chicane before the pit entry and the last corner, after which it's a kilometre sprint back to the first corner.

Usually, the weather in the region is pretty dry and sunny, often with a stiff breeze as noted above - that WGPC13's race weekend took place nearly entirely in the wet was a bit of an anomaly. That fine of layer of salt on the track between turn 2 and the end of Sector One will play a factor, as the lack of support races around the weekend means that it will build up again between sessions. Expect some grip issues early on each session.

Note: Where there isn't a gravel pit or a wall indicated, you can assume it's a tarmac run-off for the corners and grass/turf for the straights.

About the Nation

The Imperial Commonwealth is a vast sprawling conglomerate comprising of 20 nations/colonies, centred around Eastfield Lodge. However, the only bit of Eastfield Lodge that exists in this Universe is a small island in the northern Rushmore seas (just north of the square-ish island of Karditan). The island, known as Gateway Island, is a massive transport hub, and houses a portal that enables travel between this dimension/universe, and the bubble universe containing the Imperial Commonwealth.

On this side, the portal opens up in the ocean just south of Lodgertia, the capital of Eastfield Lodge, located about 20 miles out from the coast. Mount Salt City is in the east, but excellent transport links means that it is only a two hour train journey between 2 of the country's 3 biggest cities. The track itself is only fifteen minutes out of the city, and has top notch facilities to house both the teams equipment and also its personnel. As the countries third largest city in population terms, and its biggest in sporting terms (outside of football), there is plenty to see and do in the city, despite the country's quite tight rules (being a Muslim country and all).

Here some important ones:
  • Alcohol is illegal. Period. No trying to smuggle any in, you will almost definitely be caught. The Podium Champagne ceremony will have a fizzy juice substitute (OOC: similar to what Bahrain does IRL).
  • Smoking is also illegal, as are all common recreational drugs. Not that there's much of a drug culture in the Imperial Commonwealth, but still.
  • Public Decency is quite rigidly enforced, with a dress code for men and women. Headscarves aren't compulsory, but you'll get some odd looks from more than a few folks. You might want to keep the romance in public toned down a little, you could be fined if you're perceived to be going too far.
  • Homosexuality is technically illegal, but if you keep it private, it'll be very hard to actually charge you.
  • There is a nightly curfew [midnight], however this shouldn't apply to any of the teams over the race weekend - official business is always exempt.

Even if you feel your fun is a little restricted by the above, don't worry. You can still enjoy yourself quite a lot, and you can definitely expect anyone on the street to help you if you need it. in the WA census rankings, Eastfield Lodge leads Rushmore in many categories: Safety (18th safest country in the world), Most Compassionate Citizens, best Tourist destination, Nicest Citizens, Best Weather, Best Health, Most Cheerful Citizens and the Most Beautiful Environments. Basically, this is the place to go for a holiday, especially for some R&R.

Any questions, drop me a TG, and I'll add it into this post.
(OOC Host note: This is entirely plagiarised from WGPC14, but it didn't need updating, so...)

Lugenburgh, Vestrad, The Krainin Isles

Edward pulls into his driveway and yawns. It's been a long day. He unlocks his front door and goes to the kitchen to make some coffee. In the other room he hears his computer make a sound. He walks into there to check it out.

"Huh. An invitation as driver #2 at EVolution Racing for half a season. That's a pretty good offer. I'll think about it." Edward stands up and goes back into the kitchen. He grabs a cup of coffee and takes a sip.

"Ahh. That's good coffee." His computer makes another sound. "Wonder what that is." He goes back to the computer.

"An invitation by SVJ to be their number two. Also, an invitation by SinVal to join as their number two."

Vankkavalta International Airport, Vankkavalta, Sånkasus Maakunta, Aboveland
2nd of August

The flight had been cozy enough not to sleep Janne's legs off, the uncharacteristically generous leg space in coach adequate enough for an internal flight from Iskajärvi. He'd been accompanied by Terho on the trip to meet Ryker Lane, a person they both admired very much. Who exactly was going to assume the role of manager for his WGP2 season was uncertain yet, though it seemed increasingly likely Terho would take care of the PR side of things, while Edvin would retreat, as per usual, into the role of race engineer. These details were probably of great importance to the Nimbans, so Terho reassured Janne he already had it all planned out. The rookie, however, was dubitative of his mentor's actual preparedness, so he'd thought up his own scapegoat response should the former world champion slip up.

Janne took to the background once Terho the Nimban in the distance, whose head bobbed up and down behind a row of recently disembarked tourists. He picked up his walking pace to match Terho's, who stretched out an arm to greet the foreigner from afar. It wasn't until the Abovians waded through the crowd to reach the small oasis Ryker was in that he turned around, however, at which point the veterans greeted each other before Janne stretched out an arm to the Nimban, his movements strangely ethereal.

"Janne," the rookie presented himself, giving Ryker the most "grown-up" handshake he could muster, his facial expressions cool and controlled, his armpits desperately trying to cool himself off.

"Ryker," the Nimban replied, an aura of superiority—in the most admirable and awe-inspiring way possible—gracing his voice and movements. Janne stood idly for a few moments after the introduction, waiting for Terho to take over, which he did skillfully. For the Kylmajärvan, it was a struggle to keep up with the travel plans the WGPC legends discussed just centimeters to his right, the splendid architecture of the Vankkavalta airport, as familiar to him as to the man from across the multiverse, captivating in its beautiful simplicity. Before long, the back of his neck had begun to ache, and the pair of drivers in charge of the fate of his WGP2 campaign had strayed away to some other point in the international departures terminal. His eyes widened in alarm and scanned the multitude as he tightly clutched the telescopic handle of his carry-on, the fine blond hairs which made up his whorl perking up above the crowd, bobbing like Big Bird's morning crest.

Superia Juniors Livery presentation
August 5, 8:17am

A simple structure was mounted at LAB Race Park, where three cars stood on the starting line of the small circuit, covered by clothes. The place was Bitten Heroes GPE WGPC chief facility before the collapse of the team, and LAB bought it just to keep until other team took the reins of what Maud Formula left behind. There were some invited reporters and some known faces in Lisanderian motorsport, like Andrea Lanza, Bastian Alcaraz Natassia Maud, Seigen Mikado and his daughter Shizuko, Ludwika Wiel, Meline Agrakian, Lourdina Westgrens and Alyn Terfel, the last two in opposite sides of the crowd since the breakup of the relationship. Damian Ader could be seen with a white polo with a black with lime green trims collar and cuffs, advancing the colours of the livery.

Image
A gentle but yet animated music was playing on the speakers near the track when Juliano Lemos arrived, gathering the attention of the photographers. He was using a plain dark grey suit, with green KB Logos sewn to the sleeves. He also had in hands a new helmet. The old one, purple, had the colours of Remington, the sponsor who had deserted, so he wouldn't use it. The new was dark grey and green, like everything in that event. The green saltire was inspired by the flag of Brax, a suburb of Soria, his birthplace and Bitten Heroes seat.

"So, I found this by my side when I woke up this morning. Looks like someone stole my drawings again. And as always the culprit signed her crime. 'Com Amor, Ludi'*" He told to the people in the makeshift podium. "Thank you, Ludi, I love you". The audience responded with effusive applause, whose noise easily covered Ludi's words, which could only be understood through lip reading:

"Happy birthday, I love you too."

When the applause ceased, Lemos continued:

"Ladies and Gentleman, I'd like to advance you one thing before presenting the car I already drove this morning, to heat it a little and drive a little around. The ones to the left and right, also covered, are the two cars for the second driver. They're untouched since the paintwork and will have the possible configurations modified to please the test drivers later today. I hope one of them may accept our invitation to be my partner for the season, driving one of these beauties. But before presenting the livery itself, I want to say a thing. I made a modest investment to buy the rights of a certain brand. Some money here and there to pay debts and transfers, some contacts with the public sector, forms and more forms, and now I can present you this"

Lemos took off the cloth that covered the car between the other two, revealing the new Superia Juniors Livery, with a very known name coated on the sides.
Image

Superia Junior Team present its livery. The silver car has dark parts in carbon covered with thermogenic panels, that provide extra electric power to the engine, to be used when activating the DRS device on rear spoiler. The predominant logo on the side (also in the upper part) is Bitten Heroes GPE for Lemos car, while the second driver car will have his own sponsor as the predominant logo. Additional sponsoring is equal to both cars: "KB Motorworks" and "Powered by Camden", as well as Petrovi on the front spoiler side.

People cheered when the words BITTEN HEROES could be seen in the livery. It was no wonder. Despite the poor results of last season, the memory of the great season 15 was still vivid in the minds of the fans, and the name was already synonymous to Lisander Motorsports. Lourdina Westgrens even put her fingers to her mouth and whistled, so excited!

"So... This has been set since the end of last season. Natássia sold me the trademark registration, which is being added to the Portfolio of KB Motorworks. I also decided to have it in the car, because you know, I put some money on the team. The other car will have this space to his own sponsor. We also have planned some cool initiatives to support racing, like a GT team and stuff like that, right, Lourdina? And we are already getting rid of judicial misunderstandings. It's still going to take some time, but we're hoping that for the next WGPC season, we'll be all set!"

* "With Love, Ludi"

Kaylan Motors Expo 2018
Tushlark, Togonistan

Kaylan Motors Expo, the annual promo event hosted by Togonistan's very own car manufacturer is probably the second most prestigious car-related event in the nation, right next to Tushlark Car Show. This was the evening when all the big heads gathered together to occupy Castovanni Conference Centre and listen to exciting presentations while discussing all the latest fuss as well as downing multiple glasses of champagne. Not only did it bring together all the racing experts, but also people from Kaylan's manufacturing department as well as various other higher class people who, in one way or another, managed to get an invitation. Of course, there was also some press coverage expected to happen.

Robert Letuna, head designer of KM's manufacturing department had just finished presenting their newest pickup truck, an all-new KM Raiona which was about to hit the market really soon. As Mr. Letuna left the stage, it was time for Tanielu Felafa to take his place. Felafa walked on the stage, starting his speech: ''Ladies and gentlemen, dear guests, I'm glad to see so many happy faces here. As you all might have already heard, Kaylan's Racing Department has been working hard for the past few years. Providing a growing ground to many, many great rising talents, I'm happy to announce that we have taken yet another step further. For those of you who might not be that familiar with me, I'm Tanielu Felafa, Team Chief of Kaylan Racing's WGP2 branch. There have been many rumors about Kaylan's step into WGP2 and tonight, you will see that the rumors have become reality. Laides and gentlemen, without ruther ado, allow me to represent you, the final official livery of Kaylan Racing Team's for WGP2.''

Lights in the room turned into a green and orange color scheme as the music started playing. Felafa step aside as the curtains behind were opened and a group of Kaylan Racing's grid girls marched in. Between them there were two cars standing on rotatable platforms. As the music progressed, the cars started turning, eventually facing each other so that the audience was able to see them sideways. Grid girls started doing various hand gestures, presenting both of the cars to the audience.

As the music faded out, Felafa started speaking again: ''Ladies and gentlemen, here it is! These two cars will participate in the upcoming WGP2 season, with Max Predofski from Maryloupe and Isaia Fanene from Togonistan being drivers for the team.'' People started applauding, during which Felafa took a break until the audience became silent again, allowing him to continue: ''These cars, powered by KM's Kaieke 1 engine with approximately 600hp are KM's first try to enter the world of open-seat formula cars design. However, do not let yourselves be fooled by the term first try. A lot of testing and work hours have gone under these cars in order to achieve the best result we could've imagined of. We believe Kaieke 1 is a milestone for the local automobile industry, and a fairly competitive vehicle for the upcoming WGP2 season.'' Another round of applause was followed from the audience. Felafa smiled, before continuing: ''Well, that's it from me. Please, do feel free to come up on the stage and take a closer look at these cars. Our team of mechanics will be here to answer any questions you all might have. Please, enjoy yourselves!'' Accompanied by yet another applause, Felafa stood down from the stage as the guests slowly started walking towards the stage. Lead Designer Lisa Taufati and Lead Mechanic Jared Toelau, accompanied by three other mechanics, took their places next to cars and started answering questions both from the invited guests as well as local press representatives.

The practice session went a little rocky for Karli Schmitt. She never seemed to get fully dialed in on the track. As the Indigo & Red #33 car, roared and spat down the track, it was clear she was fighting it more than controlling it. She went from pushing to run with other cars, to simply falling back and taking things slower than she should have. It was a sloppy session which showed she still had a way to go before becoming a successful open-wheeled racer.

In GT2, she always showed so much poise. In truth, she was still used to that speed. The WGP2 car was much faster and lighter, but she still saw things at GT2 speed. She was thrown a little off by the speed of the other cars. From halfway through lap 10 to 15, Karli Schmitt ran alongside Ade Imoju.

She tried to keep on the tail of the Omni-Katoa car. It just seemed more dialed in. To Karli, it felt like Ade had a faster car. That was more down to Ade's control of the car. His technique was more refined than Karli, who had a more aggressive punch. This put Ade at better angles when leaving turns.

Karli got extremely aggressive at lap 12, when exiting turn 10. As the cars sped downhill, she tried hard to pass Imoju. She made aggressive cuts from one side of the track to the other. Ade found it easier to block her lane. The Katoa car did well to punch past VMR. Imoju could be heard laughing over the headset to his team. He enjoyed the moment because he often played second fiddle to Karli in the HGTC. They both drove the #50 car as GT2 co-drivers. Karli often received credit for being the fastest. Now Ade had the better setup. By turn 15, he had pulled away from Karli. Slower cars got between them. This gave the Omni car room to advance.

Karli fell off her pace as the event went on. This didn't stop her teammate from success. Jannik Markner did well at Mount Salt Raceway, a track he saw last year. His prior WGP2 experience was already showing.

Jessica Franssen met Jannik as he pulled back into the paddock. She greeted him with a hug. "You did it Jannik! Right now, you look like the best signing of the offseason!" She laughed loudly and hugged him once more. Of course Karli was still on the track at this moment. One of the Vannish cameras caught her watching the moment on a tv in the driver's cooldown room.

She looked a little dissapointed, but she gave off a half smile. She soon spoke to reporters.

"Karli, how do you feel about your first session?"

"Well, you know. This was a really balanced track. It's not really a good sign that I didn't perform. I'll have to work hard in the future for any success. It may be a rough season, but it's only the WGP2. This is a great place to learn the ins-and-outs of racing. I've had success in the past. This is a different kind of car though. I'm sure this will make me a better driver in the future."

"How do you feel about Jannik and his performance today?"

"I'm ecstatic for him", Karli replied excitedly. "It's great to look at the board and see that a teammate did so well. We saw how much of a deal certain teams made about the Constructors' in the WGPC. Our team expects results. Jannik stepped up to the plate and hit a home run."

"Does your result hurt your confidence? Do you still expect to do well this season?"

"A bad practice is a bad practice. Each track is a differenct world. Every week, the odds are different. It seems like 2 or 3 good results can make or break a season. I'd like to think I can do that and stay competitive. Overall consistency is important though. It won't be easy but, don't expect me to quit."

"In case you haven't seen the news, Ade Imoju came in 6th." The reporter pushed his glasses up on his nose. "What do you think about your former co-driver outperforming you?"

Karli laughed. "Well, he had a good run. He seemed connected with that car. I know him well and know he's a great driver. I expect him to do well this season. If he improves in that car, anything is possible."

The same reporter soon moved over to the Omni Katoa paddock. Vannish reporters would be covering both teams relentlessly. Autosports were a billion dollar business in Vangaziland. There were the events, the merchandise and the coverage. The audience needed their interviews and behind the scenes looks. Racing was even more popular in the Empire than it was 2 years ago. Vannish Motors Racing was one of the most recognizable sport franchises in Vangaziland. After Jang Xiaopeng's successful season, Omni had also garned the fans' attention.

"Ade, what's it like to follow the footsteps of Jang Xiaopeng and drive in West-East Timor?"

"This is a great team. There is a lot of excitement around our season here. We have high hopes. We feel like we have one of the better driver lineups on the field. No team stands in our way, especially not Vannish Motors."

The reporter let out a chuckle before inturrupting. "Speaking of which, how do you feel about beating Karli Schmitt out there?"

"It's what our team hoped to see. Driver signings are a touchy thing. Everybody wants to make the best deal. Of course, Jannik Markner did really well out there."

"A lot of analysts are planning to compare the four of you all season. They want to see which team signed the best driver from Vangaziland and West-East Timor. Do you see it as a competition between you four?"

"We'll definitely be looking to race each other. But it's more of an alliance than a rivalry. Both VMR and Omni-Katoa have expressed positive sentiments about building ties. We're in this season together and want each other to do well. And Jannik is a great driver. He was in the runnings to win it all last season. He may be the best driver to return to the WGP2. I bet he could put up over 80 points in the WGPC."

"We saw Jang Xiaopeng have success in the WGP2, scoring over 90 points. Is that a goal of yours? To transition into the top tier league, one day?"

"It's going to be hard to win a superlicense over Xiaopeng and Franssen. The field looks pretty backed up. But there may be other oppurtunities. Vannish Motors runs in all sorts of competitions. Maybe one day, I'll move into another exciting spot. For VMR or another."

"But tell me the truth. You really want to end the season higher than Karli Schmitt, huh?"

Ade smirked before responding. "Okay. I do. You caught me. I do."

Mount Salt Raceway, Mount Salt City, Eastfield Lodge
WGP2 Pre-Season Testing

This time, things looked serious.

Rebecca pulled into the pits after a successful run of the UHSGV around the circuit, a mere 5 hundredths off the top time. Teammate Laukkanen was a single hundredth off. So Nexus definitely had the single lap pace down.

As the car shut its systems down, Rebecca felt each and every one of them turn off. After a full season and a bit of driving this thing, she got used to that. Still marvelous, what the Wardship was capable of. Near infinite capability. Though, it was probably for the best that Esmerel hadn't made it this far... yet, anyways. A time jump would be disorienting.

With a lap time of 1:31.115, Rebecca was seventh, and only 5 hundredths off the top time. It definitely seemed like Nexus got the single lap pace down this time.

All of the systems were working great. You know, give it some more laps and some fine tuning, and we could really have a title run on our hands.

Of course, there was still progress to be made. There always was. There were always tenths to be shaved off, better, more clean lines to run, strategies to perfect, and weather gods to appease. What? It couldn't be denied that Nexus would have done far better if it didn't rain for half of the season.

Well... time will tell on all of that. No point in worrying.

Karli Schmitt had spent the day testing things out at VMR's headquarters in South Stead, Vangaziland. It was on the Southwest corner of the Vannish peninsula. It was a simple facility. The interior walls in the various meeting rooms and garages were white with indigo and red trim along the floorboards. There were numerous offices, complete with large oak tables and drop down projector screens. There were three simulators in a large room next to the paddock. They could be programed to simulate any car in VMR's roster, including NSSCRA and HGTC GT2 machines. There were even rumors that there were future prototypes for leagues VMR plans to enter ready to run on the systems.

The city of South Stead is pretty laid back itself. It's not like the crowded glitz of Mainland Vangaziland's East Coast. The population is more spread out here. Some suburbs can be just as big as South Stead itself. There was a downtown district with enough tall buildings to make a skyline. It was the kind of small commercial district that you could completely pass on the highway quicker than you realize. Most of South Stead was spread out with various residential districts and open space. A paper mill was about 100 miles away, the home of sustainable Vannish logging.

The VMR test track was located in a huge meadow surrounded by a forest of tall, thin pine trees. The highway led here, with a few hotels not far down the road. There were also a few homes and condominums nearby. It was still a laid back area. This was why many VMR drivers flew to Blue Coast or Emeros for excitement on their off time. VMR drivers usually did a few days of testing a week. They had freedom to travel and have some free time between races. It was important for drivers to reset after each race. The season was long and they couldn't get burned out.

Karli and Jessica sat in one of the break rooms at a small, round table. A large white refrigerator with an indigo and red stripe which matched the floorboards, sat in the corner. Jessica had a kiwi flavored drink and a cinammon roll in front of her. Karli had a bunch of grapes and blueberry flavored water. The fridge and cabinets were stocked with anything a driver could want. Staff got to request what they wanted and the team budget would cover it.

"Are you looking forward to running in Savorjarna?" Jessica took a sip from her drink after she spoke, looking over to Karli.

"I'm looking forward to giving it a go. It has a lot of straights. I think my style can suit it. Jannik should be able to really do well. Where's he, by the way?" Karli looked around the room, even stretching to look outside the door.

Jess shrugged before replying. "He's probably in the simulator, if not checking out one of the cars. The engineers are working on a few things. There might be a big addition to our powerpack."

Karli's eyes widened. An engineer walked into the room and began digging in the fridge. "Like what? Anything exciting?"

"Yeah!" Jess looked over to the mechanic. She knew he knew of the news so it wasn't a secret. "You know how last year in the WGP2, the Royal Imperial Soothsayer made a statement after Jang Xiaopeng suffered an accident on lap 2?"

Karli leaned forward. "The psychic mystics? The ones who supposedly wield ancient technology from Old Gazi and the pyramids?" Karli popped a grape and nervously chewed.

"The one and the same", Jess said. "Listen. They've been working on a new technology at Overglade University. All the psychics in the Empire have come together. The result? PsyKinetic Boost. It needs a receptor of course, it's not magic. They install a device on the engine like a turbocharger. At certain RPMs, you get a boost of power.. A decent amount of PSI."

"How is it powered?"

"Intent", said Jessica. "A room of remote viewers set their energy into a crystal array. The power only has to be charged once every full moon. The Boost Box keys into that signal and converts intent into horsepower. It's more efficient than a turbocharger, because the boost occurs over a wider RPM range. It's all more effective than a supercharger."

"That's nuts", said Karli laughing. "What else are they working on with this technology? Anything with safety?"

"Nah", Jess replied. "They weren't keen on that after the Mercer-Daly crash. They don't see it wise to trust safety to such a system. But yeah! They say the booster has a reverberating hum and glows red while it powers up."

"That would be the coolest visual on the track", Karli said while giggling.

"I'm not sure if it will make the WGPC. We're going to have it installed before practice though. It's a quick bolt on that the engineers should be working on tonight. The parts came in this afternoon. They're working all night."

"PsyKinetic Boost." Karli shook her head. "And we were supposed to be the team without gimics.

"The purists aren't going to like it." Jess paused for a bite of her cinammon roll. She spoke a little after chewing most of her food. "But... We have to work on innovation. Maybe one day PsyKi boosts will make it to our street cars."

"I don't know if Vangaziland is ready for that", Karli said laughing.

"If nothing else, the military is very interested." Jess leaned forward into her chair. "Most technology like this starts with military applications. You have to imagine certain fighter jets already have PsyKinetic boosters on their engines. Probably the secret stuff they don't tell us about."

"This is ridiculous", Karli responded. She scratched her head. "I hope it doesn't backfire too much. I can already imagine the systems getting overloaded because of this stuff."

Jessica looked nervous. The VMR formula had been tested and proven true. She wasn't neccesarily on board with this experimentation. But it wasn't her call. This came down from Vannish Motors Corporate. The same company that hired her as a driver and acting manager. She was just an employee. Jess wished for a day when she financed her own team. She was becoming financially closer to making that a reality every year. She was making hundreds of millions of dollars in endorsements across the Empire. Even 8 hours South of the Mainland in Esportivan Vangaziland, people knew about Jessica and VMR. The same in Africa's New Gazi. Or the Tainese Isles a few hundred miles off the coast of Asia.

"We'll play it by ear", Jessica replied. "If it's too wonky, we'll uninstall it. I'm pretty sure that PsyKi can become the most effective mind based technology on the track." Jess knew rumors of the new technology had leaked and that other teams would probably be hearing about the system by now.

The fans were looking forward to seeing how Jannik Markner and Karli Schmitt would perform during Week 1 of the WGP2. The Psyki Boosters were not the only issue Jessica was dealing with. A very influential person in Vangaziland had been calling her and asking for a spot. Jessica was in the tough spot of telling Prince Vang, the heir to the Vannish throne, that he was not experienced enough to run in this year's WGP2. Prince Fritz had been leaving message after message. He recently sent her a clip montage from a track session in his Vannish Motors Ghost. The Prince had been putting a lot of time in. Still, he was no Jannik Markner and he was no Karli Schmitt. These drivers had experience.

Jenna Vandersen bought a seat as a pay driver in last year's WGP2. She had years of experience in karts and had run sessions in open-wheeled T3 cars years before the season however. She understood racing and showed potential. Fritz was just trying to make another play for attention. Besides, he had too many commitments. Even now he was at a summit discussing the situation in Ukraine. There could be a chance for the Prince to get involved in a future VMR spot. Rally would probably be easiest for him to get into. The team may get him a spot into the future driver's program. Fritz was a major investor in Vannish Motors, owning a large amount of shares.

He recently sold FC Bakati North, a championship winning team in the Indian Premier League. Vannish ties in India were slowly being broken because of a rash influx of right wing nationalism in the region. Some analysts see it as the end of the potential for India to become a sports region, which was once a goal firmly in reach for the area. If nothing else, Fritz helped turn Bakati North into a championship franchise before selling it for a good profit. He mentioned this to VMR's executives and told them he could bring some of that money into Vannish Motors.

Still, the company would not be bribed. They let Jessica play the role of 'bad guy' to the Imperial Royal. Only time would tell how he would react to her rejection. So far, he seemed to just be spamming her text with questions like, 'Do I have a spot yet? What's the status on my seat? Should I bring bagels when I come in for my test drive?' It made things awkward for Jessica who had to constantly say no. Fritz was laughing each time, conscious of the pressure he wielded as Vannish royalty.

One day she might give in.

August 8th
Mount Salt Raceway
Pre-Season Test

The paddock palpitated with energy, beyond anything Janne could have ever imagined. Even while burrowed in the silky, matte gray, space-age Nexus machine, donning his RMEO suit, his vision trapped within the confines of the visor of his helmet, the atmosphere was overwhelming. He'd never been in an actual formula racing paddock before, his previous experience limited to empty tours of the Lintulahti garages before his private tests. He'd only met the Nimbans a week ago, and had just gotten used to the augmented mobility the RMEO suit gave him, after many accidents involving open orange juice jugs and entire cups of coffee. The last conventional device within his reach was in fact his helmet, the same he'd used for most of his career in crosskarts. His head had finally grown into the plain white head protection device, no longer jiggling over his tiny teenage skull. The scuffed, well worn plastic exterior of the helmet had not a single design element to it, apart from the discreet residue of the glue left over from the electrical tape once used to write the number 15 on the sides. It was laughably austere, and would certainly be phased off in time for the first race to make way for a helmet with a communication system, but for a practice session, it'd do.

When Janne was finally over his own appearance, he turned his attention to the team. The Nimbans felt like worker ants to him, always scramming to the next task they had in store, never idle, never resting in vain; always determined and committed to giving their absolute best at everything, be it excelling at the coffee courier position for the new hires back at the HQ or firing up the plethora of systems and whirry bits and bingy beeps of the UHSGV before the first timed laps of the season. The squad was absolutely on it, at all times.

His reflection was cut short, however, by the appearance of a thumbs up, which morphed into a waving, stretched out palm flagging him out of the paddock. He shot his eyes up for a moment to see who was at fault, and it was none other than Terho, who'd come along with Edvin to their first WGP2 session. It was likely that Terho wouldn't return for the first race of the season, as he was mostly concerned with TRÆ R&D back at Lintulahti, and while Edvin was supposed to be with Janne at every event as his race engineer, the lack of radios on his helmet, combined with the fact the event of the day was but a test, meant he was essentially a VIP spectator this time around.

Janne acknowledged the signal, but waited for the knock on his helmet from a Nimban team member to set off. Once he felt the kinetic call, he jutted his thumbs into the holes of the steering wheel, curled his fingers around the handles, and depressed the accelerator pedal with gentle grace, his heart pounding out of his chest, the edges of his mouth curling with delight. The weight of expectation rested on his shoulders, the fate of his career dependent on his first impressions for the team.

As soon as the pit wall disappeared into the sides of his helmet, he floored the throttle. The kickback from the acceleration was absolutely sensational, his neck whipping back, the force of the car tucking his eyelids into his sockets, his stomach churning and raising to his lungs. He quickly released the pedal, crawling back to an almost standstill, took a deep breath, narrowed his light eyebrows, and floored the car again. Now that he knew how the car would launch, he was ready.

His outlap was hesitant at best, but the track was a riot to drive. The sharp street circuit corners were famously not Terho's cup of tea, but Janne had an odd fascination with them. The feel of the four wheel drive heaving the car out of the apexes took just a few corners of getting used to. The car was stupid easy to drive, both thanks to the assists it had engineered into it and his own body motion augmenting suit. His first four laps were rather conservative, too, his entry into turn 11 somehow unsettling the car and the walls at the final run up to the pit straight scaring him away from a big push. His times were respectable for the test being his first ever runs in a modern spec WGP2 car, but respectable was not near enough for the Kylmajärvan.

He was young, wild and talented, and he was going to make that show.

The UHSGV barrelled down the main straight, the tyres tearing at the Mount Salt asphalt, the silver and blue blur whirring and growling past the paddock. Janne pumped the brakes a few times into turn one before flooring the pedal, an unorthodox method of slowing down which unsettled the rear just enough to nail the apex. He powered uphill into turn two, the vehicle climbing as effortlessly as he found the car to drive, and braked steadily this time, dancing the car onto level ground before careening towards turn three. The car squatted gracefully around the hairpin, a kick of the accelerator enough to churn the Imagikinetic (ooc: ??) converters into action to whip the rear around the corner. The daunting nature of the combination of turns four and five vanished through Janne's enraged lap, the Chase Cutter riding the kerbs with agility, exiting turn five ever so slightly sideways. For once, his crosskart experience had come in handy for something else. He relied on the downforce to straighten his car up for the uphill dash to turn seven, the braking into the acute corner beautifully executed, the car spooling down and lurching past the apex. Turns eight and nine were a breath of fresh air as the gravel traps opened up to reveal the grandstands, which were no more than a smudge in his vision as he prepared for the downhill sprint towards turn 11.

The pump braking technique was long abandoned, but Janne attempted a turning brake into the corner at the bottom of the hill. The Chase Cutter's rear swung violently at first, but with the weight firmly on the front wheels the car shook itself into place, abd he executed the turn spectacularly. Turn 12 was slightly more swooping, the openness at the outside of the turn filling him with confidence to attack. Full throttle down to turns 13 and 14, the car nearly kicking sparks into the air from its rims as he hugged the outside line before the final chicane, edging dangerously close to the sidewall, his focus unfazed and unconcerned with the consequences. With a violent lurch of his arms he threw the car into the right corner and launched them again to the opposite side as he headed for the final turn, his movements superhuman, his physical exertion negligible. The rear wheels pushed the car along as the traction at the front corrected the oversteer out of the penultimate turn, and a gentle glide over the apex of turn 15 lead him on to the pit straight once more, his right leg almost relaxed, the accelerator pedal close to penetrating the monocoque.

4th, read his lap display, .012 seconds off the leader. The teenager whooped in delight, pumping his left fist into the air subtly, so as to not alarm the team's onlookers. It was a pity his chuckles remained confined within the foam shell of his childhood helmet, which muffled not only his yelps but occluded the transformation of his face from naïve, secluded boy to confident, ambitious race car driver.

Nexus Racing HQ, Crossbay Circuit, Nimbus Bay, the Nexus Wardship of Former Citizens of the Nimbus System
7th of June

He still isn’t sure quite how this became a regular thing - but that doesn’t mean that he minds it.

That first evening, they talked. Just… Just talked. So has it been each evening since; the two would meet in his room after dinner and talk for an hour, two hours sometimes, and then she would leave. Occasionally they would do other things, too; the day before yesterday, for instance, he showed her - and she offered ideas for - the city that he was working on in URBS 3.

It’s been pleasant. Pleasant enough that… “I just can’t find anything.” He sighs, gazing at his ceiling. “The car was far better than last season’s - and besides, Jean did perfectly well - but at the same time, I’ve been keeping up with my training, I…” Ryker brings his head down, gazing helplessly past his shoulder.

Victoria frowns, resting her chin in her hand. “I mean, I’ve no doubt you’ve thought about it a lot.” She drums her fingers on her hand.

For a few seconds, there is silence.

“Maybe we don’t have to solve it at all, though.”

Ryker recoils. “Uhhh… What?”

“Sometimes,” Victoria begins, “when I’ve got a piece of code that’s bugging out on me and I can’t work out what’s going wrong -”

“That happens to you?”

Victoria raises an eyebrow.

Ryker lets out a puff of air, smiling. “Sorry, go on.”

She rejoins his smile with her own as she continues: “Well, when that happens, I sometimes just get rid and build some better code that doesn’t bug. Something similar might work here.” Victoria smirks at him. “Not suggesting that you try to somehow ‘replace’ your psychology but, well, we’re prototyping a new car right now. It’s an opportunity, right?” She leans back, folding her arms. “I mean, what kind of things do you want working on? I see Gertrude every day.” Her smile becomes a smirk. “Ah, well, so do you, but… I’m more regularly in contact.”

Ryker runs his hand through his hair. “Well… I know that her team are already working on reliability; they have been since last season, even. The other thing was power… I feel like we were distracting ourselves with everything to do with safety. That’s important, of course, but… We got the compressed Imagination tank, the new monocoque and the new array before last season. After that… Nothing.”

“Well, there’s the second iteration of the array now, so there’s that, but I’m sure that there’s more that could be done.” She nods. “I’ll try it. Better doing nothing than something, right?” Victoria pauses, before chuckling a little. “I meant something. Not - oh, you know.”

Ryker and Terho quite easily fall in together as they walk through the concourse of the Abovian airport, the Nimban looking across at his once- - no, still-rival with a tired smile, returned with Terho’s respectful yet friendly one. It is the latter who speaks first. “You’ve been doing well recently?”

“Mmm…” Ryker looks down, considering. “Not entirely. I lost my edge a little last season and… Let’s just say that my mind hasn’t been in a good place recently.” He tilts his head back up, his visage returning to at least contentment. “Still, the others have been helping, as they always are.” One in particular. Go on, keep telling yourself that that isn’t significant.

Ryker tosses that thought from his head as quickly as it entered it and, indeed, seeks to rapidly change the subject. “If I remember, the plan is… The plan is that we’ll take the Terrarail to Crossbay once we land and you’ll discuss Janne’s contract as soon as we get there.” He waves his hand about a bit. “It’s basically the same thing as Rebecca’s contract is - ah, Rebecca Darlington. He’ll sign on for a year, guaranteed…”

Nexus Racing HQ, Crossbay Circuit, Nimbus Bay, the Nexus Wardship of Former Citizens of the Nimbus System

“…but if you so choose, you have the opportunity to convert that into a three year contract at any point over the season’s course.” Auburn Steel flashes a smile at Janne, a line of teeth shining brightly alongside her copper hair. “With that you will also have the option to, at any point in that period at which we do not have a pair of drivers ready for the coming WGPC season, activate a clause which will guarantee you a place in that season with us.”

The two sit in Conference Room 3 of Nexus Racing’s headquarters, Janne himself at the middle of the semi-circular table with Auburn sitting just to one side of him and Timothy Guard himself immediately to hers. Between herself and the Abovian driver Auburn holds up a tablet whose screen displays two columns of text, one in Janne’s own language and the other in the box-like glyphs that make up the Nimban formal - and, in this case, legal - Higher Script, which detail precisely what Nexus Racing’s resident lawyer has just laid out.

“There is, unfortunately, another limitation on that,” she admits apologetically as she flicks at the screen to scroll down. “Rebecca Darlington will have priority for admission to the WGPC team, since she signed a contract with us previously and we would be in breach of that were you to leap in beforehand. Nonetheless,” Auburn concludes, her expression turning warm and peaceable, “I doubt that you will find a simpler route to the highest tier of racing anywhere, Janne Laukkanen, and we are more than happy to provide it to you; we believe in your ability as a driver.” She looks across at his team. “If any of you have suggestions on improving the offer, of course, feel free to make them, but otherwise I can have the documents complete for all of us to sign in no more than a few minutes. You just have to give the word.”

Ryker shakes his head. “Sorry, I’m getting ahead of myself. Been a little… ‘Off’, recently.” He looks to his companion, inquisitive - though perhaps not to his usual degree. “How have things been on your end?”

VMR, OMNI-KATOA, NEXUS RACING FASTEST IN WGP2 PRE-SEASON TESTING
World Grand Prix Correspondent
Sol Yanforl

Pre-season testing for the second tier of World Grand Prix competition has concluded in Eastfield Lodge, with Vannish Motors Racing, Omni-Katoa Racing and Nexus Racing emerging as front-runners. The three teams, all of which figured prominently in the most recent season of the World Grand Prix Championships, had the fastest driver pairs of all of those running at the event, including well-known forces MRT and Tropicorp.

The running, taking place at Mount Salt Raceway, saw only SinVal fail to participate in a session which featured close running, the top seven drivers only separated by five hundredths of a second and the field as a whole barely more than five tenths apart. Of the top three teams, all of whom had confirmed a complete driver lineup, only Nexus Racing’s Rebecca Darlington and Omni’s Timo Jänkirinää, who had previously driven for Katara Racing, return from the last season of WGP2.

Analysis by Robert Manleigh

As WGP2 teams, VMR, Omni-Katoa and Nexus Racing could hardly be more different. VMR’s approach is mechanically unflashy, while Nexus Racing proudly admit that their entry to the series is a constantly-evolving prototype. The Vannish and Nimban teams both have significant WGPC experience, the latter slightly more so than the former, and success, while Omni hasn’t yet won a championship. It is, perhaps, puzzling as to why they have drawn ahead at this stage.

The answer, perhaps, is that they have not. Mount Salt Raceway as a track is known for its tendency to not demand expertise in any given aspect of racing, beyond a mastery of the basics, from cars or drivers (likely why it was selected for testing in the first place) and as such it is perhaps no surprise that three diverse teams are leading the field. More than that, however, one should consider just how close that field is. On a different day it might have been Ibuna or Brutus in front, given that both teams placed drivers at the sharp end of the timing sheets; even EVolution Racing, who at a glance might seem to have failed to live up to their pre-season hype, performed well for a rookie team. In all, it would be hard, and indeed wrong, to make snap judgements at this point; we'll only have true clarity when the season itself begins.

We are the Nexus Wardship of Former Citizens of the Nimbus System, not just a collection of people; please shorten to the pre-title or use the full name!

Emmet: You might see a mess -
Lord Business: Exactly: a bunch of weird, dorky stuff that ruined my perfectly good stuff!
Emmet: Okay. What I see are people, inspired by each other and by you - people taking what you made and making something new out of it.

Edward is sitting on his couch thinking on which team to join. As he's thinking his doorbell rings.

"Wonder who that could be" Ed says to himself as he gets up. He gets to his front door and looks out the peephole. Outside is his friend. He opens up the door.

"Hey, Michael," says Ed as he gives Michael a hug. "What brings you here?"

"I was in town and I thought I'd stop by. May I come in."

"Yea. Yea. Come on in." Michael walks in and Ed shuts the door. Michael goes into the living room and sits on the couch.

"So, have you had any teams interested in you?"

"Actually yes. Three to be exact. EVolution Racing, SVJ Racing, and SinVal Motorsports, with the latter two I took a drivers test for."

"And have you make a decision on which to join."

"Not exactly. Want some tea?"

"Sure." Edward goes to the kitchen. "Which team are you leaning towards?"

"I'm leaning more towards SVJ, but I was the only one to show up for the SinVal testing."

"Weird." Edward walks back into the living room.

"Yea, it was. Here" Baker hands the drink to Michael.

"Thanks." Michael takes a drink and sets it on the coffee table. "If you want my opinion, I'd say go with your gut. You said you're leaning towards SVJ. If I was you I'd choose that team. Then again, I'm not you, so it's your choice."

"You made up my mind, thanks."

"It's what I'm hear for."

"You ready for the test?", Parvin Langer asked Timo.

"I sure am."

"Great. Remember, it's just a test, so it doesn't matter much..."

"Yeah, I know", Timo said while putting his gloves and helmet on. "It doesn't matter too much where I end up. I'll still try to drive some fast laps though."

He got into the car.

"The car is ready and the session has started. You can go out whenever you want", Kamil Waller, who had been assigned as Timo's race engineer, said.

Jannnik had put his racing suite on and was looking at the car. He liked the colors. In the national Formula series like Formula WET1 he had mainl driven cars that were mostly white. He liked the blue of last years Academy car, and the indigo and red of the VMR car better. His helmet design has always had blue in it, too.

He had spent some time with the team and his crew, and he found them to be all very nice and welcoming. He was happy that most people at VMR seemed to be glad to have him as a driver.

"I think you should get into the car", Tomas Zietek, Jannik's race engineer, who had already been his race engineer in Formula WET1, said.

"Gladly."

Timo returned to the garage after his last stint, and had a look at the leaderboard. He was satisfied with his result.

"Third place. Pretty good."

"Thanks. And inredibly close to... Jannik? Jannik is on P1? That's interesting."

"Timo, good session", Langer told him too.

"Thanks. The car is pretty good, too."

"Of course it is, haha."

Timo left the garage to the paddock, and was greeted by several Timorian media teams, and, to his surprise, some Vannish ones too.

"First, pretty good test today, Timo", one of the reporters said. "What do you think about your pre-season test? How did it go, for you?"

"I'd say it went pretty well. We got some usefull information, and we also know the car is competitive now. Third and six aere pretty good results, even if it's just a pre-season test."

"Who do you think will take the title this year? Do you think you have a chance?"

"I certanly hope so. VMR, Nexus, and Katoa too might be the top championship contenders, I think. We'll have to wait until the season starts to know for sure, though. Janne Laukkanen seems strong. I know that Jannik is strong, I've raced against him quite often, after all. Ade will be a serious contender too, and of course I intend to be. It might be an interesting season."

"Some people are talking about a possible alliance between VMR and Omni Katoa, due to Omni having signed Ade Imoju, who you already mentioned, a Vannish driver affiliated with VMR. And at the same time, VMR have signed Jannik Markner, a West-East Timorian driver at least somewhat affiliated to Omni. What can you tell us about that?"

"Not much, if I'm honest. As far as I know, Jannik was ever only loosely tied to Omni, and has never driven for them at all. While I think a partnership with VMR might be an... interesting option, and I would welcome it, for sure, this is a question you should probably ask Parvin rather than me. I just don't know much about it, yet."

"Alright, thank you for your time, and good luck this season.

Jannik returned to the pits, and Tomas told him that he was on P1.

"Really? Yeeesss. Great."

He got out of the car, and was immediately hugged by Jessica Franssen, who congratulated him and jokingly said he looks like "the best signing of the off season.

"Thank you", he chuckled. "I'll try to repeat this every session now."

Jannik went to have a look at the complete results.

"Tabuso on two and Timo on three...", he thought. "And all pretty close together. Interesting."

Jannik noticed several camera teams in front of the garage, which seemed to have just finished interviewing Karli, so he decided to go and talk to them.

"Jannik! Would you have a moment for an interview?", one of the reporters asked as he was approaching.

"Of course."

He went closer to them.

"Jannik, great job getting to P1 today. It was only a test, but do you think you can do just as well during the season?"

"Hopefully yes. However, it won't be easy. There are some good teams and drivers out there. But I should be able to beat them, I assume."

"Which drivers and teams are you talking about?"

"Neus, Katoa, Ibuna-Gambal, Obey... almost all of them might be good. After the test it seems like VMR and Katoa, and Nexus I guess, are the best, though. All three teams have a very strong lineup, too."

"Who are you looking forward to racing against most?"

"All of them."

"What about Omni Katoa? It seems like an alliance might form between them and your team, VMR."

"Yeah, I know about that. Because of Ade driving for them I think, while I don't have much to do with them, anymore, actually. However an alliance might be a good thing, I suppose."

"It will be interesting to see how the drivers of those two teams will do, especially should the alliance actually happen. How is your relation to these drivers, to Karli, Ade and Timo?"

"Karli seems nice. I haven't spoken to her that much yet, but she's a talented driver, and I think a good teammate, too. I don't have much to do with Ade, really, and Timo, well... I've known him for a long time, but, as you know, we've never had the best relationship, mainly because of our rivalry in Formula WET1, of course. I want to beat him again this year, of course, but, if an alliance or anything happens, meybe we'll eventually get along better I guess. We'll see."

"That's all I think, thank you for your time, and good luck."
If you want to do that, you can call us Omnidirectional Timor as well...

Chapter 3: Shaving and Success

Jason Masami was on the phone with an official from the Ministry of Sports, while in a hotel room after the Pre Season Test. "Hang on, is this phone wiretapped?" the official asked Jason Masami, as he was using his cell phone instead. "No, this phone isn't wiretapped. The nation I'm in doesn't do that sort of thing. Anyways, I finished up practice from Friday. Scores were low, though. I mainly took it easy, not wanting to damage the car, seeing how some of the turns on the track were sharp."
"And what about the other driver that's in the same team as you?"
"You mean Ekatarina Julic? They did good. 5th place, but they were almost near the lead. Anyways, they taking my car for the Prix at Savojarna, so the practice run that I took for simply for me to get used to the "rush" or what not." Jason Masami said, while walking over to his hotel window to see the view.

"Don't guarantee the possibilities of success. At least, try to qualify as much as possible. That means you shouldn't attempt to go 1st place right away, before someone behind you takes advantage. We can always recommend testing with some of our fine orange men from our prisons." the official said to Jason Masami, where he declined. "I'm not going to be that aggressive on the race track. It's not a demolition derby or anything, you know. Anyways, I need to get myself refreshed for tomorrow. It's going to be a long day, so I gotta get myself prepared and resting."
"Very well, Masami. If something happens there, you are to call us, if your team can't help you."
"Pretty sure, my team will try. But I will still call. Bye." Jason Masami hung up the phone and went to the bathroom to take a shower.

Afterwards, Jason Masami made sure to trim his goatee and keep his hair neat for tomorrow. While shaving an area near his goatee, he accidentally cut himself, grabbing a bandage to stop the bleeding. "Oh great, now I got a paper thing on my face which everyone might see. Oh well, I'm going to be wearing a helmet anyways."

Quote of the Week: "A NEW STORY ON WRITING THREAD FOR HALLOWEEN!! MYSTERY MINE AVAILABLE NOW!"

RPs I do
- How do you do fellow kids? You want to see something violent? - Artemis: Deimos Trafficking League (Horror/Mature)
- Descend into the forgotten tourist traps of Florida on this transgressive RP! - The Community (Mature/Black Comedy/Slice-of-Life)

My overall account that I use for P2TM and even for international roleplaying! MNM is a mysterious and extremely dangerous dictatorship filled with supernatural oddities, demons, militarized soldiers everywhere, and a misanthropic nihilistic dictator who doesn't give a damn. It's basically if the SCP Foundation got mixed with 1984.

WGP2 Sponsorship Opportunities & Suppliers

:: Driver Services & Team Sponsorship Interest ::
Image
:: Vilaye Energy Drink

Vilaye Energy Drink, supposedly made from natural extracts and minimal artificial processing - but always reluctant to reveal the true ingredients - has long been a supporter of Vilitan sporting ventures. Vilaye stepped up their involvement in Vilitan sport after the restart of the Vilitan league by taking a place as sponsors of the seasonal Tropical Trophy matchup as well as kit sponsorships. Vilaye funded much of the development work for the stand up of the Vilita & Turori Motorsports team prior to WGPC 11 and has been a personal services sponsor for Vilitan driver R.L. Cruisin throughout his racing career. Vilaye began working with Jama'obo Pegasii during the NSSCRA 6 season. Any team which signs Jama'obo Pegasii as their driver for the WGP2 campaign would likely see significant financial investment from the Vilisorma Beverage Company in an effort to ensure that their driver, Jama'obo Pegasii, ends up in victory lane at some point during the season.Pegasii recently completed a test with the Savojar Racing team and will be competing at the first race of the WGP2 season.

:: Coco-mart

Coco-mart is a Turorian affiliated big box store primarily found in South Covello. Stood up after the fall of the reign of Lord Gregory, Turorian company CoCoCo established a footprint inside South Covello and established itself as a primary supplier of core goods and services. Coco-marts were stood up throughout South Covello to serve as an interface between CocCoCo and the public offering excess goods to the citizens of South Covello and somewhat reasonable prices compared with what it would have taken for a citizen to acquire similar goods during the reign of Lord Gregory.

The facility is fully staffed by Robo-things and provides emergency power to the Vilitan Government and major cities. The pride of the Arcticala Electrical company are its advances in Solar Power which are on display prominently at the Arcticala Electrical Stadium.

:: Tiones Lumber

Yeaddin, Vilita based Tiones Lumber corporation branches prides itself in 'renewable lumber operations' - with 100% of its product coming from purpose-operated 'Lumber Farms' ensuring minimal impact on the local habitat. Tiones Lumber had some rough years during the initial standup of Tropicorp due to the influx of Lumber from clearing efforts in Tropicoast. However the Long-time sponsors of the Vilitan Stellar Division's Yeaddin Owls AFC survived the rough patch and have rebounded to once again be the leading Lumber provider in the region.

:: Turoki Island Tourism Board

The Turoki Island Tourism Board, through their "Visit TI" campaign, is always looking for new and exciting ways to reach across the multiverse and pull new tourists into Turoki City and to experience the grandier of Turoki Island itself. From the well preserved Northern Forests and the native villages of Riailia to the Southern Shores and the always-hopping Island Capital of Turoki City, Turoki Island would seemingly 'sell itself'. But with the ongoing development throughout the Vilitan Cove region and new tourist destinations such as Cocoabo Park cropping up, the Turoki Island Tourism board occasionally decide they need to get their name back out in the forefront of the minds of would be toursists before they start planning their next week-long getaway.

:: Cocoa-Bo Eatery

Cocoa-bo, an establishment taking its name directly from the beloved national animal of Turori, started as a small dessert shop in Kionao. However, it was only after they added chocolate topped drinks to their menu that their popularity started to soar. As more and more patrons scooped up their chocolate flavored pick-me-ups, demand for the Cocoa-bo product skyrocketed and soon new franchised locations were popping up all throughout Turori. Shifting to more of a social 'hang-out' then just a casual place to drop in, get a dessert, and leave, the new locations started adding small foods such as Bagels for the morning, Soups and Sandwiches for Lunch or Dinner and Salads for the entire day. Cocoa-bo has expanded outside of Vilita & Turori. Their first regional location was opened in Andossa Se Mitrin Vega and the company continues to further increase its image by partnering with Motorsport teams and expanding the company footprint across Atlantian Oceania and beyond.

:: Toys '4' All

The leading distributor and retailer of Toys and Games in the Tropics, Toys '4' All prides itself in providing a positive experience for children and adults alike when visiting its stores. Customers enjoy a wide selection of otherwise hard-to-find Toys and Games with Toys '4' All bringing to market toys from independent toy makers and innovators. The future of the Toys '4' All brand likely depends on being able to retain the market share from the independent toy makers using Toys '4' All as a storefront for their goods.

:: Tropicorp Racing Supply
Image

Tropicorp is a quasi-governmental corporation created to conduct Research, Development and Production activities primarily on behalf of the Tropics of Vilita. One of the byproducts of Tropicorps development in a remote location on the Calanian mainland has been the removal of native and wild tree species to make way for development space. Tropicorp engineers discovered a dense grove of Calanian rubber trees.

Tropicorp Engineering developed the special Calanian rubber to create high performance racing tyres for testing purposes. After the tests proved successful, It wasn't long before the tooling was done and Racing Tyres were popping out on an hourly basis from the workshop and Tropicorp Racing Supply was born. Everything on Tropicorp Racing Supply's standard product line from Crew Uniforms to Composite-Material suspension parts will be on offer. - even the potential for advanced product opportunities through Tropicorp Engineering to include Chassis and Hybrid Power systems. Additionally, any team with an official supplier arrangement with Tropicorp Racing Supply will receive discounted Tropicorp Sifaka tyres for use in private testing or events.

:: twii.tur

twii.tur is a short message communication service based in Turori allowing users to exchange content of 140 characters or less. The service originated as a way to allow officials to receive alerts and key information such as incoming weather notifications, major events and the ability to stay coordinated during a time of crisis but was under-utilized and doubts were raised as to whether the overhead of the infrastructure was worthwhile to maintain.

As capabilities of interconnected and handheld communication devices improved, the Turorian Weather & Information Interchange (Twii) was adapted into a public facing service where users could sign up to create their own twii nodes where users would sign up to a twii group to receive all the twii messages delivered by members of that group.

Ultimately, as demand grew, a fully public release of twii came at the connected location twii.tur where all users can participate in the public twii, selecting which messages to receive by adding individual users, groups or topics to their twii.tur feed.

A relationship between twii.tur and a WGP2 team could result in increased exposure for all the teams brands, having a knock-on effect of increase the value-for-dollar marketing worth of the entire WGP2 franchise.

:: Cocoabo Preservation Society

The CPS does not pay to put its logo on Grand Prix vehicles.
