A Baptism of Fire Bid | Farfadillis and Semarland

The Outlandish Lands of Farfadillis
Handing Farfadillis the hosting rights of any competition is an awful, awful idea. The highly-flammable island in southwest Atlantian Oceania is terrible at doing things in organized ways. Anything at all, and that includes organizing football tournaments. However, it doesn't stop the FFFF from trying. Farfadillis is a highly chaotic, highly multicultural, highly unpredictable nation with a variety of biomes and possible dangers. From the mountains of Frion to the deserts of Shojercia, from the rich city of Ferdullaele to the desolate hellhole of Ruland, Farfadillis always has something to surprise its tourists, even if it usually isn't something good. Also, things tend to catch fire in Farfadillis, which is why the nation's full name features two flames (although the forum's code won't allow me to type those out in this post).

Football is basically the only popular sport in Farfadillis, a nation that lives it and breathes it. The national team has won two AOCAF Cups and reached three World Cup semifinals, and is nowadays considered one of the top national teams. Not that this relates in any way to the bid at hand, but it needed to be said

Hosting experience
Farfadillis has not hosted things in a long time, but he hasn't forgotten how to host. He has hosted a Baptism of Fire, the 54th edition to be precise. It was, in this unbiased user's opinion, one of the most successful BoFs to date. I actually mean that, by the way. Farfadillis has also hosted AOCAF Cup 38, Copa Rushmori 16, Campionato Esportiva 5 (the last two as Charruterra and Slembanana, respectively) as well as a couple of editions of the now-defunct-but-occassionaly-resurrected U-15 WCs, which the user originally founded in a successful attempt to gather some hosting experience. Farfadillis wishes to host this BoF because of two reasons. 1) This BoF looks like it might live up to BoF 54, and he had a lot of fun hosting that. 2) He wants to get back into hosting, both because he likes it and because the community is in dire need of capable hosts.

The Republic of Semarland
For a nation that lives and breathes football, it seems fitting that Semarland could may well for the first time host the Baptism of Fire. Well recognised throughout the multiverse as a nation known for its excessive transfer business with other nations, emphasis on developing the country's talent, and well, an immense love of football! It was quite a surprise to many when the Semar government sadly declared there would be an indefinite hiatus in competing on the multiversal stage, but the next surprise was a pleasant one as Semarland returned with a bang, re-entering UICA and enjoying successful knockout-stage runs in both the Di Bradini Cup and the AOCAF. These last six years in Semarland have seen a bit of a drop in "football tourism", as it could be called, and this would be the perfect opportunity to introduce new nations to Semarland, but more importantly, the chance to introduce these new nations to Semarland and the rest of multiverse.

As you may have gathered by now, football is by far the most popular sport in the country. Since making their bow way back in the 56th Baptism of Fire, the country has gone onto qualify consistently to the World Cup finals since World Cup 72 whilst having the first U18 World Cup and the first Meski Cup in their trophy cabinet. It could be said domestically Semar teams have never fared as well in UICA competitions, but regardless there has always been a strong interest in foreign nations both internationally and domestically. Should Semarland get a chance to host this Baptism of Fire, it would be guaranteed the competitors lucky enough to be based in the country would have a more than impressive welcome.

Hosting experience
Semarland is the junior bidder here. He has been the host of two Trindl Cups, an invitational tournament for 16 of the multiverse's best nations, as well as the Norhalne Youth Invitational. He is looking to build on his hosting experience whilst providing an enjoyable tournament for NS Sport's new generation. God knows how much this community needs new hosts.

Scorinator
NSFS, additive style mods. Additive style mods are the only fair ones, and NSFS is our preferred scorinator.

Tiebreakers
Points, H2H, GD, RP bonus (ICly a coin flip). Although RP bonus as a tiebreaker is controversial, we feel it's appropriate for the BoF.

Format
Groups + Knock-outs. The number of teams per group and the number of groups itself will depend on the number of signups, but we'll do as much as possible to include every team that signs up, since the objective of this tournament is, in part, to lure new members.

Extra things
Matches played in Farfadillis will be surrounded by extremely weird circumstances (the teams involved can choose to retcon those events, though), as it used to happen when the nation hosted things in the past. This approach lead to some pretty inspired RPs.

We'll also name a BoF best XI and have it play a friendly against both our NTs, a match which will be RP'd. Just like in BoF 54.

Why should we choose you?
Both of us, I feel, are members that are trusted by the community. Both of us could use the experience and, at the same time, both of us are no doubt capable of doing the tournament justice. We have the right mix of experience and necessity of experience. ICly, though, this should be the last bid you vote for.

We welcome any questions you may have.

No shortage of BoF bids appearing today! No issues with the bidders, and I think you each would add a lot of fun and originality.
One question though, assuming 60 or so teams, are you looking at 16 teams in the playoffs or 32?

Hey! Thank you for your question and the kind words :D

With it being around 60 teams (hopefully 64), it'll more than likely be a round of 32. I can see there'll be roughly 16 groups so we don't think it'd be particularly fair to have just the winners progress to the next round, for example. Having a round of 32 allows more nations a chance to progress and with that incentive it'll encourage new users to return to NS Sports etc.

Hope that helps!

As it looks very likely that we'll reach 64+, we'll be looking for a multiple of 4, then go with X groups of 4, from where the top teams + the best second-placed teams will advance to a round of 32. We are also considering a second group stage, but we don't really like the idea of having two extra MDs.

Going straight to a round of 16 is essentially impossible with over 60 teams, unless one puts up with having 5-MD-group-stages and the first stage butchering about three fourths of the participants.

Both of us can include puppets so that numbers work out if needed, so getting a multiple of 4 should be easy.
