IBC 26 ~{Everything Thread}~

Postby Qasden » Tue Jul 03, 2018 12:58 am

Welcome, everyone, to the 26th International Basketball Championships, hosted by the marvelous Qasden! Moons ago, the Net Corps of Drawkland fought off death itself to capture their first ever IBC title in Banija and Filindostan. Fast forward to today, the Corps, alongside 47 of the fiercest sides we've ever encountered, aim to take the trophy coveted by all those who gaze upon its greatness. With squads from as far as the South Pacific and Sonnel, it wouldn't be a tournament of legends if just Qasden took part in holding venues. Oh no, ladies and gentlemen, this IBC will have stadia from across Atlantian Oceania, big and small, open their doors for this special occasion like no other!

For those joining us for the first time, this is thread where all rosters, RPs, and results alike are posted, so pretty much anything IC. If you have any questions or comments you'd like to say, please use the link above to the discussion thread, where OOC chatter can be tolerated by all ;). Now that I got that out of the way, feel free to post below and make a name for yourself! When creating your roster, it's recommended that you at least have a little info about your country and/or team, as well as the players themselves. If you don't already have a logo or kit, either make one or ask on the discussion thread, as there are certainly people out there that can help you out. Oh! and if you can, please add RP Permissions to your roster, as well! It'll be mighty helpful to those you play against so they know how to RP your characters. If you don't already have one made, please feel free to use this template below!

Code: Select all
[box]My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose Scoring Events:
Godmod Scoring Events:
RP Injuries to my Players:
Godmod Injuries to my Players:
Foul my players out:
Eject my players/staff:
Godmod Other Events: [/box]

It is generally frowned upon if you choose to go against one's permissions, as it could lead to as severe as a reset of your RP Bonus points back to 0, which nobody wants.

Now to the schedule! As we have 48 teams this tournament, this means 8 groups of 6, which means we have ~10 days full of group stage battle with a break in the middle. The top 2 teams will appear in the knockout rounds, with each round consisting of 1 game to determine who advances to the next. Cutoffs should be expected to occur between 22:00-00:00 CST (UTC -6).

IBC Record: 5-5

About Lisander Basketball
Basketball is a sport with a quite slow growing curve. Not so slow as baseball or Gridiron Football, but not so fast as Rugby. After Lisander Rugby Union, Liga Nacional de Hóquei and Lisanderian Football Federation, Lisanderian Basketball Federation was the fourth selected sports federation to receive money from Ministry of Sport. They presented a consistent plan, enjoyed the power of media and sponsors and started to dig up a little place to plant the seeds of its evolution.

In the process of joining to the International Community of the sport, the Lisander Basketball Federation already hosted the IUBC Finals, while, locally, FLB started its national professional championship, the Superliga. The second season is currently underway¹, and the most valuable players were selected to play IBC 26. At the same time, FLB is partnering with National Academic League (LAN) to have competitive college teams.

The prospects are positive. If they manage well the resources, both financial and human, Lisander Basketball may be as great as rugby in some seasons. We can even dream with a veteran Eric Hahn lifting the trophy in IBC 29.

Group Stage
Royal Kingdom of Quebec 98–74 Lisander (Snake Pit Arena, Qad City, Qasden)
Xelsis 64–72 Lisander (Snake Pit Arena, Qad City, Qasden)
Lisander 78–71 Nepenisea (Snake Pit Arena, Qad City, Qasden)
Qasden 65-52 Lisander(Snake Pit Arena, Qad City, Qasden)
Lisander 79–61 Calderwoodian People (Snake Pit Arena, Qad City, Qasden)

Lisander 69-77 Royal Kingdom of Quebec (Nordland Metropolitano, Soria, Lisander)
Lisander 75-73 Xelsis (OT) (Nordland Metropolitano, Soria, Lisander)
Nepenisea 95-100 Lisander (Nepenisea Arena, Nepenisea
Lisander - Qasden (Gymnasium Lernae, Lerna, Lisander)
Calderwoodian People - Lisander (TBA)

Tournament Expectations
A third-place in the group would be enough, but if Lisander reach the knockout stages, it will be a great victory.

¹Lisander Basketball Superliga periodicity is still unclear. I'm not sure that I will have time to follow all the editions of the IUBC, and UNAF has its own basketball competition, so I have not yet defined how it will be about qualifying.
²UNAF is an NS Sports-esque initiative where brazilian dudes like me and the guy behind Espezah gather together to write/scorinate/design stuff. We're on Facebook.

About the Sherpa Empire:

As you might guess by the name, the Sherpa Empire is an empire ruled by Sherpas. However, the Sherpas are a minority of the population. There are many Chinese, South Asians, Arabs, etc. and they have their own languages and cultures. The Empire rules a large swath of Asia, including Nepal, Bhutan, southern China, northern India and Pakistan, and a small part of eastern Afghanistan. Baseball and football (soccer) are the most popular sports, but there are leagues for many other sports. Basketball is somewhat popular north and east of the Himalayas, but there is very little interest in the South. Magic exists, but it is relatively rare in day to day life, and it is strictly regulated in professional sports.

Any games hosted in the Sherpa Empire will be at Datianwan Stadium in Chongqing.

DRAWKLAND NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM (NET CORPS)

International Basketball Champions, Edition 25

Name: Net Corps
Colors: Black with Crimson trim
Denonyms: Drawkian or Drawkish, personal preference
EIGHTH IBC, Rank #3
Head Coach: Cody Morgan
Assistant Coach: Sally Hardin
Assistant Coach: Tom Chalk

Basketball is an avid sport in Drawkland, with huge cheering crowds and near-constantly playing pep bands the norm. If you've never been to a basketball game in Drawkland, you may want to bring a pair of earplugs. Or two. You'll need them.

As you may notice, the Drawkian team is sorta massive, as far as height goes. This is perfectly natural for Drawkians, as the national height average is 7'5" (they're not related to humans evolutionarily besides the shape and proportions and such). They also may seem like they're "middle-aged," but that's wrong. In fact, most professional Drawkian athletes don't retire until around the age of 40, since the average lifespan is around 150.

After having their best group stage in their history in IBC 24, the Net Corps went on to get annihilated in the Round of 16 for the fifth straight time (once by Royal Kingdom of Quebec, once by Vangaziland, once Abaja, once by Ceni, and now once by Banija). Finally, they decided they weren't going to take no for an answer. A decade of playoff disappointment took a heel-turn as the Corps made an unprecedented run to the championship game. Drawkland won the game in convincing fashion to Royal Kingdom of Quebec, and finally claimed the title of IBC Champions. Who knows if they'll repeat, but they certainly have momentum on their side.

Instead of going the basic "All-Star team" route the Corps originally used, the Drawkian International Sporting Council (DISC) hand-picked team members, some high performers from last edition, a couple different all-star club players, and even a few collegiate players who REALLY shined in the NSCAA.
The team is Co-Ed, and coaches were selected from the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion team's head coaches from last year's championships. The 3rd coach is the head coach of the current champion collegiate team. Same squad as always. We dunno what's gonna happen here, but hopefully we break the Round of 16 this time.

The starting lineup begins at the point with floor general Hectare Yulssen. He is a savvy veteran of the IBC, leading the Royals to everything but a title. He has helped Vangaziland establish one of the premier programs in the IBC. He's a leader, calling out plays on the coach's behalf and his own improvisation. He can dribble, shoot and pass. Sometimes this leads to him doing too much, padding his stat line while keeping others out of the play. He has become more score focused in the IBC.

Looking to make an impact in the starting lineup is 23 year old Mark Ewingson. Expect Mark to score often. He's a shooter, but he has an aggressive post game for a guard. He'll try to get his mark off guard before driving to the lane. He'll use his athleticism to force his way. He's a hothead though and can be streaky as a result. He will try to shoot himself out of a cold streak.

Returning at SF is Christopher Ironwrought. Ironwrought is capable of putting up big numbers. His best games have been spread between long mediocre stretches. Many thought he would have had more of an impact. Still, he played a big role in helping the Royals advance to the IBC 24 finals. He's a flashy dunker who can dominate the paint against certain opponents.

Juell Sampsen has been known more as a roleplayer lately. He's been big on the boards and with a defensive presence. Expect a hand in your face when Sampsen is guarding you. Juell is a strong player, a fighter who boxes out for rebounds. In college and the pros, he is a scorer. Here he is finding his role on a talented offense. He's still a threat to put up big numbers on any given night.

Last but not least in the starting lineup, we have Chris Parkssen at Center. He plays internationally outside of Vangaziland in Abaja. Parkssen helped give the Ikeland Speed a championship in his rookie year. He wears the ring around his teammates and jokes about it. Of course, players like Yulssen have a few Vannish rings. Parkssen is a big body with his own aggressive style of low-post offense. Expect him to go back to the basket in an old school style. He's far from the archtype of the outside, perimeter center. Chris will be starting over Lonnie Knucks in a major team change.

Steven Eaglesen finds himself on the bench. He is looking for a starting role and may be the most ambitious player. Expect him to come out pass heavy. He'll also create shots for himself. His passing and handle are explosive. His personal battle with Yulssen for playing time can also take the ball out of the hands of others. The coach will have to reign in her point guards.

The team's third option at PG is Sarah Overson. She's the tallest PG on the team and she isn't afraid to drive. Her style favors the kickout pass from the lane. This only works on certain opponents though and can be locked down. Her crossover cannot be underestimated. She is less of a scoring threat than Yulssen and Eaglesen. She's fluid and can really open up an offense.

Carter, Orion and Battle find themselves subbing in at forward. They will each play based on what the team needs. Carter can help battle down low, another tall body to throw into the war for rebounds. Orion is the best passer of the forwards. He's a solid cog in the team's clockwork. If the offense is running into a stall, D.J. Orion may come in to add new angles to the offense. If the team needs another scorer, they can bring in Manny Battle. Manny was a player expected to start and shoulder the offense. He's never found the right run that he knows he's capable of. He may drop a big game or two if he gets enough time.

The three forwards show Vangaziland has a deep team in case of injury.

This leaves Jake Frost to fill out the roster as a general guard. He most likely wouldn't come in at PG, though he runs his offense at SG in the Vannish pros. He can score. Coach Foyelson can sub out streaky shooters in the hope the Frost can heat up. He can shoot well along the perimeter. His post game isn't the strongest, though he has a consistent layup. Frost is one of the top free throw shooters in the Vannish Basketball Organization.

A major name absent from the coffers is Tom Gravu. The Vangazi retired after prior to IBC 25. He started his time on the Royals on the bench before working his way into the starting lineup. Many hope the young blood which replaced him, Ewingson, can be the change the Royals need to take it all.

NEWMANISTAN ROCKETS

“Two Time IBC Champions”

Basketball in Newmanistan: Basketball has a solid following in Newmanistan, though the fans are drawn to the college level a little moreso then the pros. It’s popularity is regional in nature, with the Loudon area in northeast Newmanistan being the most fanatical towards the sport and that is the reason the Emperor has chosen Loudon to be home base for the team and not the traditional spots of Tundra Falls and Pocono City during the qualifying stage of the tournament. This is a competition that Newmanistan had success in back in the day, winning both IBC 4 and 5. That was a long time ago, but the Empire has been on the right track since its return, making the playoffs in their return in IBC 23, taking a run at Saint Kanye in IBC 24, and then making it to the semifinals in the last IBC.

Basketball is played differently in Newmanistan. There is an additional line behind the three-point line that serves as a four-point line. Shots behind the half-court line are worth six points. Players are taught how to shoot from longer then expected distances at a young age, so they will have a higher level of success at these shots in comparison to those who have not routinely practiced them. Be aware of this in the IBC, because while the four-point line will not exist in the tournament, our players are comfortable putting up shots from distances that you’re team might not be used to having to tightly defend. They are unlikely to put up shots from beyond the half court line, though, in this tournament. The big key to remember is that within the halfcourt, be expecting a shot from anywhere.

Coach: James Parsons, 62 (Loudon Leopards)
Home Area: “The Jungle” (Loudon Stadium), Loudon. Capacity: 19,441
Uniforms: Envision the uniforms of the University of North Carolina as the best comparison.

Starting Five:

SF: Daquan Wilson, 32 (6'9", Putnam Lake Eagles) (#34)
PF: Jaylon Wright, 30 (6'10", Southport Tigers) (#33)
C: Tiberius Connelly, 28 (6'11", Springfield Thoroughbreds) (#45)
SG: Kenny Atwood, 29 (6'2", Loudon Leopards) (#11)
PG: Quinton Fayne, 30 (6'5", Loudon Leopards) (#3)

– The starting five is in the prime of their careers right now, and Coach Parsons is hopeful that they are on the verge of a championship season. Atwood and Fayne are exciting playmakers. Fayne is not afraid to put up a shot from anywhere on the court, and especially from within the half court. He leads the Empire in four point shooting percentage. Atwood will also put up the long shot, so defenses will need to closely defend these players at all times, and not just when they get near the three-point arc. Wilson will put up the long shot as well, perhaps not as often, but if you forget about him, he can be sneaky with that shot. Wright will play in the paint and look to outmuscle opponents for rebounds. Connelly makes his starting debut, but he has been part of the tram since our return. He is very physical, and while he will concede a few inches to other centers, he often succeeds in making up for this with his overall strength.

Bench:

F: Carnell Larribee, 32 (6'9", Pocono City Capitals) (#32)
F: Brian Danielson, 26 (6'9", Tundra Falls Mariners) (#30)
C: Byron Storm, 27 (7'2", Olympia Gladiators) (#55)
G: Dwayne Murray, 25 (6'4", Brighton Bulls) (#4)
G: Travis Warden, 22 (6'2", Seminole Bay Gators) (#22)
Utility: Sheik Mohammad, 29 (6'7", South Charlotte Condors) (#21)

– All of these players are stars at home as well, so they should not be considered “bench players” like you may consider such players on a real-world NBA team. They are simply more reinforcements of players who are all able to play at a very high level. Therefore, coach Parsons will not hesitate on using them, and giving them a fair amount of minutes as well. Murray is a very exciting player, there is simply no room for him in the starting lineup. When he’s used, there is no let down. Warden was the #1 overall pick in the ENBA draft after a thrilling career with Southport University.

This will be Abanhfleft's twelfth time participating in the International Basketball Championships. Abanhfleft finally, finally won the IBC after many years and seasons of nearly theres and almost made its in the 21st edition but immediately slipped against Saint Kanye once again in the 22nd edition. Now the job is to regain the title with the same players who won Abanhfleft's first title in basketball in so many years, but do they still have what it takes? Can their new coach lead them to a second title? There's only one way to find out, and it's by going to Qasden and seeing how things unfold...

HOME STADIUM (The Fleftic Arena, Riuwiee)
Image
Presenting the Fleftic Arena, the largest indoor arena by seating capacity in the Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft

Situated in the north of Abanhfleft's capital city of Riuwiee is the National Sports Park, a 140-hectare "special national designated area" in which a majority of Riuwiee's sporting facilities are located. Standing out among the stadia and gymnasia is the massive and imposing structure and flat roof of the Fleftic Arena, officially the largest indoor stadium in the whole of Abanhfleft with its official stated capacity of 100,786 seated spectators for indoor sports. The structure broke ground on September 26, 2009 as part of the capital city's reconstruction efforts following the aftermath of the Holy Catholic Revolution of 2008 which left nearly the entirety of Riuwiee devastated, and construction was completed over three years later in 2012. The Fleftic Arena is the official home arena of the Abanhfleft national basketball team and has played host to dozens of matches during the International Basketball Championships. Aside from that, the Riuwiee Presidents of the Fleftic Basketball Association occasionally uses the Fleftic Arena as its home stadium when it plays marquee match-ups against well-known teams from the league such as the Malabon Black Ops or the Markovsky Red Army, taking advantage of the arena's huge capacity when the capacity of their usual home stadium, the Sterling Arena, is deemed to be not enough for games of such popularity. Aside from that, the Fleftic Arena has also played host to at least four FBA All-Star Weekends since its inauguration and opening in 2012.

As for the stadium's location, Riuwiee is the capital city of Abanhfleft and is home to over 20 million people. The Fleftic people are very crazy and passionate about basketball, and even though their home side the Riuwiee Presidents has been disappointing in the FBA as of late, the fans still come out in droves to support and cheer for their team.

THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF THE UNITED SOCIALIST STATES OF PRIDNESTROVIA
NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM

Basketball is the second most popular sport in the Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States of Pridnestrovia. The nation's premier basketball competition, currently known as the Pridnestrovian Basketball Super League, has been around since 1967 and is generally considered the second oldest sporting league in the country, second only to the association football competition currently known as the Pridnestrovian Super League. Basketball in Pridnestrovia, like all sports in Pridnestrovia, is generally dominated by three teams: BC CSKA Tiraspol, known as the Army Team because of its roots in the Pridnestrovian Army's sports and fitness section; BC Admiral Novorossiysk, known as the Navy Team because their founders were the same seamen who founded FC Admiral Novorossiysk who were looking for a sport to play during the winter months, when football pitches were generally unavailable; and BC Dinamo Bender, the basketball branch of the Dinamo Bender multi-sports club and eternal rivals of CSKA Tiraspol. However, in recent years, other teams such as Kesselburger Cagers, Strigoni Macaresti, and Bacardi Derinkuyu have all attempted to challenge the dominance of the Big Three in the PBSL. So far, none of them have succeeded in winning more than a handful of titles against the collective dominance of the Big Three in terms of basketball championships. It is from these teams that the national basketball team of Pridnestrovia has been assembled, although help in the form of half-Pridnestrovian sons scattered throughout the multiverse have been sought out as well. The Pridnestrovian Republic knows that the chances of the team winning this competition on their first ever try aren't so good but they will want to see a good and respectable performance out of the boys in red and green. Up the Red Army! Glory to the Pridnestrovian Republic!

The Buio'Dzz
Before every match, the team members (including the designated substitutes for the match) will perform a traditional ritual, called the Buio'Dzz on the pitch just before play begins. This is one of the many tribe war dance from the aboriginals of Mapletish, meant to awe their opponents, this is similar to the [RL] New Zealanders' haka before their matches. This would be performed unless the hosts of the match in question object to the ritual.

FILINDOSTAN
National Basketball Team
International Basketball Championships 26

The Samahang Basketbol ng Filindostan (SBF) is pleased to present the Filindostan National basketball team, to compete in the 26th International Basketball Championships, hosted in Qasden. After another strong showing, this time in front of their home crowd, they will look to exceed their best performance and advance to the semi-finals for the first time. Coach Ciot has an astounding 79.17 winning percentage in the IBC, and looks like any coach that would succeed the 45-year old will struggle to match the feat that he made in two seasons.

Image
About the Samahang Basketbol ng Filindostan

The Samahang Basketbol ng Filindostan (SBF) was founded after they split from the Filindostani National Sports Commission (FNSC), citing the FNSC's tainted image during the Multiverse Boxing Organization boxing tournament and the budget cut the agency suffered. They were the first agency to split from the FNSC and will oversee the development of Filindostani basketball as well as the Filindostani Basketball Association.

The SBF's headquarters are located in San Marco, Filindostan, adjacent to the International Union of Basketball Clubs (IUBC) headquarters, and is headed by Charito "Charie" Pamungkas.

Nickname: Pula Agilas (Red Eagles)
First Match: vs Ethane (64-81, IBC 24 group stage, Filindostan)
First Win: at Banija (95-87, IBC 24 group stage, Banija)
Overall Record (latest): 19-5 (79.17% WPCT)

Head Coach: Protacio "CIOT" Santos, Male, 45
Assistant Coach: ANITA Tanjing, Female, 36
Shooting Coach: Ronilo "MCBUCKETS" Mac Arthur, Male, 38
Defensive Coach: Michelle "CHEL" Abunda, Female, 40
Coach: Pocholo "CHOL" Lekatompessy, Male, 45
Coach: ANNAMARIAFE Weici, Female, 50
Coach: Enriko "ENRI" Batagliga, Male, 55
Captain: Cahya Farida "FARIDA" Indrajaya, Female, 35
Vice-Captain: Ricard "RICKI" Ricafort, Male, 30

Playing Squad

In Filindostan, people are often called by their nickname. Some players opt to put their nickname instead of the customary last name in their jerseys.

Centers

51 | C | Harry Rigobert "HARI" Smith | M | 25 | 7'2' | St.Patrick Saints (HUD)
88 | C/PF | PAUL Pardosi | M | 23 | 6'7' | Fortunas
1 | C/PF | Angelica Marie "ANGGE" Ritonga | F | 29 | 6'8' | Fortunas

Hari, a very tall player from Venividicci, will be the starting center for this bunch of guys and gals. Height has been a big issue in Filindostan, with lack of talented big men plaguing Filindostani basketball. The lack of height of the centers are being compensated by their three point shooting and a pesky brand of in your face defense. Paul is a unique three and D center. His only problem is how to handle foul trouble, something that he has not figured out yet while at UTP-J. He is expected to be in the second unit with Angge being the backup should both centers run into foul trouble.

Forwards

44 | PF | Cahya Farida "FARIDA" Indrajaya | F | 35 | 6'7' | Perokojak Kota Jakulta
15 | SF | Hedder Sandro "SANDRO" Frias | M | 30 | 6'5' | Venividicci
55 | SF/SG | Stella Arielle "STAR" Delos Santos-Strauss | F | 28 | 6'4' | Fortunas
9 | PF/SF | Immanuel "IMAN" Sidebang | M | 24 | 6'6' | Perokojak Kota Jakulta
6 | PF | Antonio Ernie "ANTENY" Basada | M | 32 | 6'6' | Venividicci
97 | SF | KETURAH Sinuhaji | F | 37 | 6'5' | Perotres Bandaroon

Farida is the captain of the team and is most likely the glue gal of the team. She can be relied upon in post-up matchups and interior defense. The star of the team is Sandro. His athletic wingspan enables him to block opposing teams' shots, and was dubbed "The Flyswatter" by the Filindostani media. His offensive game is also ridiculous, as he can slash into the opponents' paint and either perform a difficult reverse layup, or, as most times, posterize opposing defenders and getting that and-one. Star is very reliable on three point shooting and can slot in the shooting guard position despite her being used as a small forward while at Fortunas. She's the younger sister of Domo of the Pula Garuda and the Fortunas football team. Iman, Anteny and Keturah are serviceable backups but nothing notable is known about the three.

Guards

8 | PG/SG | Ricard "RICKI" Ricafort | M | 30 | 6'2' | Fortunas
3 | SG | Jennyfer "JENNY" Farias | F | 25 | 6'3' | Venividicci
21 | PG | ABDEL Nahusuly | M | 29 | 5'11' | Perotapam Massakar
0 | SG/SF | Romarie "ROMA" San Martin | F | 34 | 6'3' | Perodos Bandariyan
41 | PG/SG | ESAU Sinupayung | M | 38 | 6'1' | Perouno Bandarito
7 | PG | Jose Maria "JOMA" Estrada | M | 22 | 5'10' | University of Filindostan (UF)

Joma, being still in collegiate basketball, is the surprise addition for coach Ciot. The speedy point guard from UF impressed the coaching staff enough for him to be included in the lineup. However it is Ricki, the vice captain of the team, that will be the floor general for the Pula Agilas. Jenny is the three point specialist of the team and she could be streaky - once she gets hot - which she is anatomically, it's hard for her to stop. However, her weakness is once she gets into a shooting slump, her entire game is being wasted with a string of bricked shots and airballs. Abdel is a hot headed speedy guard for coach Ciot, and has a short temper. He usually starts fights, but he's able to make his opponent be ejected (along with him) with his antics. Roma and Esau will mostly be subbed in during garbage time or when the game is essentially over, win or lose.

ISMART ANETTA COLISEUM
San Marco, Filindostan
Capacity 21,000

The Anetta Coliseum is one of the oldest sporting venues in Filindostan. Built in 89965, the arena has hosted multiple Filindostani referendums, basketball league games, concerts, boxing matches, and Hastags concerts. This is also a designated venue for the IUBC in the event of no host bids from other countries. Located in the city center and a train station dedicated to it, the arena is one of the most accessible sport venues in Filindostan. The arena is sponsored by Ismart, one of the biggest telecommunications company in the nation.

All of Filindostan's home games will take place at this arena. The arena security is very strict and tight, but with the right price, contrabands (illegal items) can be smuggled into the arena, save for explosive devices and deadly weapons. Games are usually jampacked, as this sport is the most popular in the Filindostani capital.

The second unit usually enter the game three minutes before the first quarter ends, but can enter as late as the last few seconds of the first quarter. The third unit enter the game when Filindostan is already leading by a very large margin (35+) by the end of third or if they have a large deficit (25+) going into the last five minutes of the game. Tall: Hari - Paul - Iman - Roma - Ricki

Tendencies
Due to the lack of height of the Filindostani team, they compensate what they lack by three point shooting and pesky defense. However, if needed, they may take the foot on the gas pedal and quicken the pace of the game, shooting the ball within ten to twelve seconds of possession. The team bar Sandro prefers perimeter shooting over layups and dunks - their favorite play is the pick and pop where the center or power forward screens for the shooter to eliminate the defender and create good looks at the basket. Defensively they play a 2-3 zone, sometimes switching to a man-to-man when the ball is outside the three point line. This switch takes the toll on the players, so it is rarely done on a regular basis.

The team does not react well on bad calls. Coach Ciot has a reputation to hoard technical fouls and ejections, costing the SBF money for fines. Players, particularly Abdel, can also go out of control due to bad calls.

Uniforms
Image

Filindostani apparel maker NNS supplies Pula Agilas' jerseys, as with most of the national teams of Filindostan. An all red with black and white semi-horizontal stripes is their primary, while in case of color clashes, they use their white alternate with red and black semi-horizontal stripes.

Team RP and Permissions
The below information will help teams RP against my team in case they RP first.

Most likely to... (in order)

Score big: Sandro, Star, Ricki
Score a buzzer beater: Star, Jenny, Sandro
Posterize opposing defenders: Sandro, Hari
Get a technical: Star, Abdel, Ciot
Be ejected: Ciot, Star, Sandro
Be fouled out: Ricki, Paul, Hari
Take the last shot/Score the winning basket: Ricki, Sandro, Star
Be posterized: Star, Iman, Farida
Get hot and shoot three after three: Jenny, Joma, Abdel

Fans
Filindostani fans are double-edged swords - sometimes they are most passionate fans in Filindostan, sometimes, they can be compared to the worst of internet trolls. Around five thousand diehard fans will travel to the host nation to watch their team play - but they usually bring their megaphones and flares with them - they somehow make it past the guards. Some fans are crazy enough to invade the arena and cause match delays. The special thing about Filindostani basketball fans is that when the basketball team host their hated rival or a team well below the standings, they bring kangkong (water spinach) with them and chant it all throughout the team introductions.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose Scoring Events: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: No
RP Injuries to my Players: Yes - I'll determine the severity

THE ROCKET REPORT

BASKETBALL HAS BECOME OUR SECOND SPORT

by Brianne Henry,

Not too long ago, the national baseball team celebrated winning World Baseball Classic 43. It marked the sixth such title for the Empire. That is more then any other nation has been able to win. As fun as that is, we are not one of those nations that only plays baseball, like Schiltzberg (don’t worry they don’t read this, or we don’t think they will). We are sports crazed, and we want more. However, our return to the sporting world is looking a lot like it did before we left. Champions in baseball, weak in soccer, good but not good enough in football, with hockey not even bothered to attempt anymore. But then, there’s basketball. This was our other sport. We won two titles. We have returned, and we have excelled, making it to the semifinals before being ousted by eventual champions Drawkland. We played them three times, having also been group mates, and beat them once, with another loss being close. In the playoffs, the Net Corps played to a level that we could not match, and it would be them advancing to the semifinals. Even looking at college basketball, we have been successful, with Newmanistanian schools regularly seen winning conferences, and making extended runs in the Ultra 64. The championship hasn’t come, and it might not come, but this is becoming our second sport.

We know that in Loudon, basketball is king. The Loudon Leopards are the elite team in the ENBA, and have been for many years. Looking at our roster, that should not surprise you. Even though Southport can dispute with Loudon as to which city is bigger in the college game, it cannot be denied that they are in the top two. With the legendary pitcher Courtney Duvall making her home in Loudon, and many others, including baseball coach Ashley Stevens, baseball could be stealing the focus of the Loudon faithful. Duvall was seen in Loudon often when we hosted the 24th IBC, the tournament the followed our championship in the 41st World Baseball Classic. Duvall figures to be around again, but it seems as though the basketball team wants to create their own legacy, and while they welcome Duvall, Stevens, and other baseball comparisons, this is about them. Other nations have taken notice to our playing style, including the highly skilled nation of Drawkland, the defending champions. There was some talk that, in seeing our players shoot from long distances with success, that they too would implement the four point line. Given the larger size of the Drawkish athletes, we can see them having success with that. Whether or not they do implement it, for them to consider it is a testament to our own team in a way.

There is not much change to our roster for the upcoming tournament. Basketball is different then other sports, after all, as there are only five starting spots available. If you are the best at your position, you can put a stranglehold on your national tram position for years and years. We see that with this team, and while it can be discouraging to some of our young talent, the Empire is going to keep on trying to put out the best squad they can. They are ranked #4 in the World now, which was our exact ranking at the start of World Baseball Classic 43. Everything and anything is possible for this team. Now, they just need to show the world we can win at more then just baseball.

Now just here to run NSSCRA. Thank you to the community for all the fun in other sports.

Cheergirls Roster

Presenting the roster from the nation of Cheergirls for the 26th IBC. This is not your conventional team. First, they do indeed wear a complete cheerleading uniform while out on the court. They have no positions. There are no players designated as guards, forwards, or a center. They will essentially run around at will in a very unorganized manner.

On the court, they will use cheerleading moves to gain an advantage over their opponents; for example two players will lift another player over their heads, allowing for an easy slam dunk. Things like that!

Starters:
#1- Tara Thurman, 16, (5'4") Team Captain
#2- Stacie Dineen, 17, (5'6")
#3- Erika Westwood, 16 ,(5'7")
#4- Brittany Steinhorn, 18, (5'9")
#5- Lauren Mayfield, 16, (5'6")

Bench:
#6- Kaitlyn Scribner, 17 (5'7")
#7- Shannon Allen, 16 (5'2")
#8- Makenzie Comer, 15 (5'3")
#9- Maddie Thurman, 15 (5'2")
#10- Danielle White, 16 (5'10")
#11- Brooke Carnavale, 17 (5'8")
#12- Paige Fernandez, 15 (5'1")

Coach: Katie Romero, 27

Home Court: An outdoor basketball court in Tara & Maddie Thurman’s backyard.
Capacity: 175. They will buy two sets of bleachers. Plus there will be a concession stand serving some items thanks to Mr & Mrs Thurman.

RP Permissions:
Do whatever you want, just no killing or severely injuring my players. After all, cheer tryouts are tough and some people might be bitter about being cut and might not be ready to replace anyone.

Note: This is a puppet of Cassadaigua. Players will mention Cassadaigua as personal motivation only, there is no IC link between the nations.

Halfdansodal National Basketball Team

All-Time Record: 1-0 (1st Appearance)
Rank: UR
Style Modifier: -4
Head Coach: Bergr Eylirsson
Home Court: Þjóðsvöllinn (14,500)

Playing Style: Halfdansodal plays a very conservative game. The team lacks raw shooting ability so they do not attempt many three-pointers. The only capable long range shooter in the starting lineup is Ulkælsson. More often than not, Halfdansodal has a height advantage over their opponents. They seek to use this to their advantage by attempting lofty passes into the paint, usually to Jósepsson. Much of the offense relies on his ability to control the low post and put up shots as well as collect offensive rebounds. Æglisson and Ingifastsson primarily probe the defense for openings to drive to the basket. Failing this, they will either attempt to put the ball up for Jósepsson or take a mid-range jumper themselves. Halfdansodal utilizes the mid-range jumper much more frequently than most teams in this age of basketball. Jórulfsson's primary role is moving the ball around the team's offensive shape. He is usually the outlet for failed plays by the forwards and will then move the ball back around to Ulkælsson or play it to Jósepsson in the forwards' stead. The team, while quite tall, has sacrificed bulk for athleticism. Following from this, they plan a man defense and move quite well with their opponents. However, Æglisson and Jósepsson sometimes leave some space between themselves and their men so that they might be better available for rebounding. This defensive scheme is effective given that they can match the speed of their opponents, but it is very tiring. The team usually catches their breath when setting up their offense and doesn't usually look to catch teams on the break.

All-Taiyou Pro Wrestling Purchases Arena Dates from Republican National Basketball Team, Announces Tour of Free Republics
by: Sharon Sanchez

All-Taiyou Pro Wrestling, which is commonly called Zen-Taiyou by wrestling fans, announced plans today to tour the Free Republics over the next few weeks. They have booked 5 arenas throughout the Free Republics after purchasing the rights to run those arenas on those dates from the National Basketball Team. All-Taiyou Pro Wrestling features stars such as the Anarchists of Taiyou, "Moneymaker" Mineo Endo, "Mr. 6 Stars" Johnny Alpha and "Guillotine" Sam Black. While many of these stars have appeared on New Republican Wrestling Conglomerate programming in the past, the two promotions broke off their working relationship after Zen-Taiyou was sold to a group run by Ryouta Sano. According to sources inside Zen-Taiyou, Mr. Sano does not share the previous ownership's view that working relationships with other promotions will help grow Zen-Taiyou. Therefore, he has decided that the promotion will focus on running its own shows with its own talent for now.

Unfortunately, Mr. Abelino Sagese, owner of the NRWC, was none too pleased with the decision by Zen-Taiyou to pull its stars from their shows on the day before last year's WrestleCade so they have announced that they will no longer promote shows at any arena that allows themselves to be booked by Zen-Taiyou. This had effectively prevented Zen-Taiyou from running events within the Free Republics, despite having a roster containing some of the biggest stars in professional wrestling. Fast forward to a few days ago when Republican National Basketball Team, LLC owner and coach Leon Alexeyeva discovered that he had unnecessarily booked 5 major arenas for his team's basketball games. This left Mr. Alexeyeva with 5 dates at major arenas that were effectively a waste of his money. Upon discovering that Zen-Taiyou had been trying to book these very 5 arenas for months, to no avail, Mr. Alexeyeva reached out to Mr. Sano and negotiated a deal to sell his arena dates to the Taiyouese wrestling organization for half of what he paid for those dates.

Zen-Taiyou wasted no time announcing that the first 5 days of the Champions Climax, their annual heavyweight tournament, would be held in the Free Republics. Since the contracts were for basketball games, Mr. Sano quickly devised a creative solution: promoting a series of tournaments involving local high schools in the 5 cities, with the finals of each tournament being held as a lead-in to his professional wrestling events. The arenas have since confirmed that this arrangement meets the full terms of the contracts, so you can pay to see the Champions Climax days 1 through 5 if you live in Republica, Toakameau, Latroit, New City or Baseton. This year's Champions Climax is the biggest yet with 14 wrestlers in each of the 2 blocks and 27 shows in total. The opening night will be headlined by a battle between the Anarchists of Taiyou's leader Tomomi Yagawa and their "Walking Time Bomb" Nao Kikuchi. The second night will feature a rematch of the recent 90+ minute title match between Mineo Endo and Johnny Alpha. Every night of the Champions Climax features a match that could headline in any arena in the multiverse. You won't want to miss the most exciting wrestling tournament in the multiverse when it comes to the Free Republics for the first time ever!

Sharon Sanchez is Sporting World's professional wrestling correspondent. A lifelong professional wrestling fan, Sharon's favorite wrestler has always been the legendary Nova Hellstrom-Hancock and she followed in her idol's footsteps by playing girls soccer at Petrograd Christian School and attending Plymouth Republic University's journalism school, which she recently graduated from. She was ecstatic when she met her hero at a career fair on campus and was offered a job at Sporting World. Due to her extensive knowledge of professional wrestling, she was assigned to cover the sport for Sporting World.

The Sour Kind
"A basketball team is like the five fingers on your hand. If you can get them all together, you have a fist. That's how I want you to play."

Commentaries | Timothy Jozua

For someone who has been a keen follower of Maplish sports, there is not one sport which I have not commentate on in my series. Today I'm taking a look at Team Mapletish who is going to play in Qasden for the IBC 26 or the International Basketball Championship. This appearance will mark Mapletish's sixth IBC appearance having appeared in IBC 9, 11, 12, 13 and 17 previously. Mapletish is not exactly one of the best countries when it comes to basketball and the title "Minuscule" seems fitting for a sporting nation like Mapletish but, they do not exactly perform. Despite having a comprehensive domestic basketball league back home, one would imagine that Team Mapletish is a made up All Stars team of the MNBA, putting together the best that the union has to offer. Yes, you are correct but let me make a bold prediction here and that is Team Mapletish will not get out of the group stages this time round, period. That will be the standard for now.

Coming into IBC 26 unranked and with a lack of exposure in the multiverse stage with their last showing almost 10 IBCs ago, the new team has admirable talent but it certainly won't do here. Led by Jackson Lucio, someone who does not have any multiverse experience to prove, it will be a pivoting point for him. Having previously led SC Galatasaray in the recent MNBA season which saw them finish in 19th with a 0.395 winning percentage, the appointment had certainly raised many eyebrows from the Fireykop. An already disappointing showing back in the domestic league, it all goes to ask what can he do with an almost all star team of the MNBA.

The Starters
The team will be led by 26 year old Point Guard, Zavier Odell who is skilled in driving and finishing together with a dangerous 3 point finishing. Not as typical for a PG in Mapletish basketball to be the one driving forward and creating shots altogether, as compared to taking a more relaxed presence, creating the chances and picking out teammates who are spot on to score. His unconventional style of play at least in Maplish basketball terms complement well with a squad that has offensive tendencies.

SG Maynerd Franklyn on the other hand has great passing and ball handling ability paired together with superb driving and finishing. Creating scoring chances and picking out good opportunities to score is what defines Franklyn. Sometimes, we can see that Odell and Franklyn are both suited in each other's position really. The only difference between Franklyn and Odell would be the fact that the former uses more of his strength in his attack drives while Odell depends more on his speed and agility to get around defending players.

SF Austen Cy is next on the list. Austen is a highly versatile player and is expected to contribute immensely to both the attack and the defence. Austen can be seen as a great low post player and a keen post scoring player, with great defending skills and is dubbed as the pickpocket. Bruising in and aggressive layups are key in Austen's offensive. Snatching on defensive rebounds and amounting steals are Austen's defensive tools.

Partnering Cy is PF Walter Sonny. Great post player with consistent offensive rebounding efforts and the tendency to drive and finish. Strength is his greatest asset coupled with his mid range jump shots at high post. He also has the tendency to shoot off the dribble. A fancy dribbler with impressive layups on the attack and is keen on driving towards the paint. On the defensive, Sonny is an unemphatic blocker and has amassed some impressive rejections over in the MNBA.

The Big Man for the team is Center, Adair Roy. The team's number one rebound getter both on the offensive and the defensive. He is also known for his posterizing plays and a deadly hook shot. Physically dominating, he is also one of the faster players on the teams known to bruise through without the ball and creating space for himself and the defense for key offensive moments. One would call him a athletic slasher despite his size and role in the offensive. On the defensive, he is a keen blocker and pickpocket known for his aggressive body checks and quick hands.

Drawn into Group G, together with Sherpa Empire, Vangaziland, Valladares, Pridnestrovia and Maryloupe, featuring world number 2, in the form Vangaziland, expect the Lions to lose both of their matches against them, a world number 19 in the form of Valladares and a world number 21, Pridnestrovia which might possibly give the Lions a 0-4. The only team that the Lions could be confident in defeating would be Maryloupe. So the expected finish would be a 2-6 for the Lions and we can definitely see where that will leave us, dead last if not 1 above Maryloupe, our nearest competitor based on rank.
