Recording taken from the lockers, after Aleia 0-1 Crylante 4th July

Mart: That...was not our finest moment.

Uler: I like that sentence. An understatement. Leave it at that. Please.

Glokker: Mart, you slipped on the grass while trying to strike at the Crylantian goal, dooming the effort for an Aleian point and the possibility of us winning this match. When manager Londrel comes here, he might kill us. Everyone at home was watching. Have a mælkeagtig.

Uler: Dammit, Igor.

Merettskol: We were put up against Crylante, no one beats Crylante at this point in the Copa. We prevented direct goals, I mean, if it wasn't for Ged's accident-

Gederer: That penalty was complete BULL. That guy ran into me, and what's to prevent him from making a life easier for me.

Mart: At least he didn't get a concussion. Then you'd be out with a red card, and we'd be screwed.

Gederer: We got screwed anyways...what's the best Salborgan beer in this ice box?

Elovan: The green one. My favorite.

Mart: What about you, Enje? Your thoughts? What do we do?

Elovan: (breathes out) Everyone. Crylante's got it, and they're gonna pour mælkeagtig over us all night, but that can't prevent us from winning this group. We're up against either Elhazia or Sarerdia next, and we need for the love of Alydian to win that match. From tomorrow, we're training attack, especially Uler and Yaglin. I know a field near the stadium where we can train. Big, quiet, almost just like the stadium we'll be playing on the 8th. Whether it's Sarerdia or Elhazia, we'll strike, we'll defend. Been there before. Now, Hogmanna, what is it that we do?

Unison: Umm...

Elovan: What do we do!?

Unison: Chop, chop, chop.

Elovan: We'll be the sharpest axe, and we'll be the thickest tree. At the opponent. And we'll grow stronger from that. I remember there was a good Chalcian restaurant a short walk a way from this stadium...

PM Luix Emmanuel Congratulates Team After Victory over Naharin

Image
PM Luix Emmanuel outside his office

SALBORGA - The Indragirian national football just achieved its first victory in this year's Copa d'Aeia. PM Luix Emmanuel was elated upon hearing the news in his office a few hours ago. The PM always wanted Indragiri to excel in other fields other than education, and he hopes that football may be another field in which Indragiri is renowned for. The 53 year old Prime Minister also congratulated the national team and its management for a wondrous feat, although he also reminds them that the fight has just begun. The national team will have to face Midrasia, a long reigning champion in the Copa d'Aeia.

It would also be a breeze of fresh air when Midrasia competes with Indragiri, as two of the starting eleven of the national team are ethnic Midrasians born and raised in Indragiri. The PM still wishes the best for the team and the management, and promises 'something nice' if they could enter the knockout stage when they come home. (05/07)

Dissapointing Throughout Dragon's Locker Room

There was widespread disappointment in the Dragon's locker room following the draw against Hipasia. Many players have taken responsibility but none have been more vocal than defender Fujio Kawashima. In his interview, Fujio stated that "We have to pull ourselves together on defense... Our offense managed to score 5 goals and we draw... As a team, we have to step up and make sure we do our part. We didn't come here to draw, our goal is winning and that's what we are going to do. Next game you're going to see a lot more effort from our defense to limit shots and keep the pressure off of Kaii."

The defensive side of the Dragon's was very off as the opposition also managed to score 5 goals. Manager Sano has already promised a revamped defensive effort by next match. Sano's main focuses have been keeping the intensity on offense while refining the defense. "If we can manage to score 5 goals coming off of that defensive performance there's no reason we shouldn't be able to win every match. These guys are tough they'll bounce back... I think we're all feeling the pressure but I think we can exceed expectations."

Many people have high expectations for the dragons following last years Copa win. President Sun-Hi even made a call to the team to remind them of their greatness and their motto "more than a team". The team has grown very close over the years and many of them are good friends. Manager Sano hopes to keep this culture on and off the field. "When things get tough that's when we rally together. We're brothers here and we all are working on achieving the same goal. I don't think there's a team out there that can stop that...We'll be fine even if I have to score 10 goals; I'll do my part to make sure we win and I know every player in the locker room would do the same." Ryu was very fired up following the draw and quickly dismissed and claims that the defense was to blame for the loss.

Goalkeeper Yoshizawa Kaii could also be seen taking extra reps after the game and the following practice. He hasn't said much but he has been seen putting in extra work throughout the tournament. Many have questioned if Kaii has the ability to defend against a high powered offense but Sano has dismissed this as "assumptions made by people wanting a story". One thing that can be assured is that Kaii has put in extra effort to ensure success for the next match.

Ajerrin’s Offense Is a Potent, Time-Released Cocktail of Kaholo Ola

It’s been seven months since Coach Fiftia Sitake took control of the Sharks from Coach Hopaeo. In that short time the Sharks have found the bite they were looking for in Kaholo Ola.

Fiftia Sitake had recently implemented the 4-2-3-1 with the Sharks. Critics and media have praised Sitake for his tactical adjustment. While many fans are happy with the change others criticize this change should have been made earlier.

The Sharks have been pretty solid in the four games when they use the 4-2-3-1. With the shutout in the first round of Copa, there is no major crack shown during the defensive phase. There continue to be some potential weaknesses due to the lack of experience from the midfield, as seen today. The Lightning passed through midfielders Moana and Kekepania several times, only to be saved by the backfield. The continued fear is that opponents will have the potential to carry possession deep into the Shark’s half, leaving more chances to bring the ball into dangerous territory and score. Luckily, the Sharks can offset that problem by having some of the greatest backfielders known to man. Backers Keona and Hina both played a great role in defending shots on goal while the Captain, Wainani Mano continued to shine with five blocked shots and three interceptions.

Let’s not forget the offense. Chach Sitake’s new formation has put Kaholo Ola in center stage and the first Copa game highlighted that fact. Ola scored off a pass from the youngster Iwana Iwalan in the fourth minute which put a damper on the Arzvan Republic’s spirits quickly out of the gate. Ola continued to score goals in the 29th and 51st minutes, which ended the game 3-0.

With Round two coming up, Coach Sitake and The Sharks look to take their fight to the pitch once again.

Hipasia Begins Copa with Stunning Timeria Draw
Yael b. Hofesh Uribe, 4/4/2018

Hipasia's quest for the Copa d'Aeia was off to a thrilling, if somewhat disappointing, start as the Stars came to a 5-5 draw against New Timeria in their first group match. Although both teams received only a point from their encounter, the Hipasian team will be pleased to have managed even a draw against the Timerians, who have been widely seen as favourite in Group E. The sheer volume of goals on both sides has already led to numerous international figures calling the match out as one of the best starts to a Copa tournament on record.

Hipasia's manager, Chaddiq Kura, had high praise for his squad, stating that although he would have "obviously" preferred a victory, he was convinced that the team would make up for it in their matches against Hergemoth and group leader Tangkuo.

"I'm paying attention to the other teams, watching their mistakes so we can predict the mistakes when we play them. By studying the mistakes of the future, we avoid repeating our own mistakes for the first time," he told Haerev after the match. "And really, that's how we'll win. I have faith that the players will do what needs done on the pitch, and beyond the pitch, that's where we use our heads."

Hipasia and their foe were tied at 2-2 by half time, both goals scored by the team's youngest player, Leon Qashath of Navack side FC Brestrand. An early concession by keeper Deiva Gagh seemed not to deter the Blue Stars, who pulled ahead to 2-1 but could not maintain the lead. A halftime sub saw Qashath replaced by Savra Savra, from whom a well placed lob in the sixtieth minute was the key to a the team's third goal by team captain Topaz Ishmael. Two more goals came from Adam Barukh and Pedro Armon, but once again the Hipasians lost their lead as the tenth goal of the game in stoppage time saw New Timeria hold them to a draw.

Captain Ishmael was proud of his own goal, but had a more cautious opinion than his manager, telling us, "this was only a draw, so we can't get complacent. What we need to qualify is wins, not draws."

The Purples Starts Copa With An Impressive Draw

Image
Players applaud the crowd after the 4-4 draw against the Mardin Isles

This night, the Navish national team debuted in the Salborga Copa d’Aeia, but as few expected, with a draw. The night started good for the purples, but they saw it all fade away as the Mardin Isles national team managed sought a 4 goals difference in the second half. Many fans and specialists have the Navish national team as the strongest in the group F. Coach Odd Sannes and his team showed in the first half of the game what their fire-power is like, but it was destroyed in the second half as the Mardinians reached Navack’s 4-0 advantage, turning the game to a 4-4. After this result, Navack and Mardin Isles tie in the group F with 1 point either. In the other match for the group F, Dreyvisevich had a skinny win over Kagon by the score of 1-nil and it is now the leader of the group. Navack’s next challenge is the Dreyvisevite team – after a win in the first in the first match, Dreyvisevich has it’s confidence in the skies, while the purples will fight for their first win in order to stay alive in the competition.

Now talking about the game, The Purples started with a heavy pressure over the Mardinians, exchanging good and precise passes in the midfield until Jørgen Hammer receives the ball in the backline and rolls a pass inside the goal area where Nikódem Nesz kicks it in a volley to score 1-0 for the purples at 8 minutes, first half. The fast goal showed people the fury in the Navish eyes and confirmed their supposed superiority over the Mardinian team. The second goal came seven minutes later, as the left wing of the Navish team exchanged fast passes to open the Mardinian defense and infiltrate the ball to the backline where once again Jørgen Hammer passes to Nikóden Nesz in the small area. The striker kicks the ball in another volley, but the Mardinian GK Marcus Ó Reachtair reflected it. Luckily enough the ball goes right back in the purple striker’s foot, who just kicks it inside the goal, scoring 2-0 for Navack. At the 38th minute, Viktor Lizancos crosses the ball into the goal area, where Christer Brevig finds the ball in the right post. In a header, Brevig makes the pass, finding Karsten Johansen in the left post who kicks the ball in the counter-foot of the goalkeeper, scoring 3-0 for the Navish. The first half ends painted in purple, as the Mardinians were completely dominated by the Navish team.

The second half, however, started with the Mardinians attacking more, but after a mistake in the Mardinian attack, the Navish team recovers the ball and starts a counter-attack. Vegar Nerby passes to Karsten Johansen in the middle. Johansen opens the game in the right wing passing the ball to Christer Brevig, who takes the ball to the right side of the goal area. He crosses the ball into the area and finds Jørgen Hammer, who has all the time in the world to control the ball and kick it inside the net, scoring 4-0 for the Navish team at 54 minutes. With 1 goal and 2 assistance, Jørgen Hammer was elected the best Navish player in the match. However, at the 62nd minute, Lochlainn Ó Báin recovers the ball in the mid-field and crosses it straight into the area, where Mac Conmara surprises the defense and headers the ball straight to the goal, lowering the goal difference to 4-1. Two minutes later, Diarmaid Ó Muire crosses the ball into the area once again, finding Ó Dála, who controls the ball and kicks it almost with no angle, but oddly enough Ken Bruer fails and diverts the ball into the net, lowering the difference a bit more to a 4-2. At minute 75, Cormac Mac Conmara receives a deep pass in the right wing and carries the ball to the backline of the Navish defense. He passes the ball into the area and finds Ó Grianna, who was faster than Rolf Moen and volleyed the ball to score a 4-3. At 90+2 minutes, after a messy Mardinian attack, the ball rolls to the left-midfield, where Seán Óg Ó Raghallaigh crosses the ball inside the area. Rolf Moen tries to header the ball out, but he hits the ball in a terrible way, leaving the ball to Ó Coille scores the 4th Mardinian goal.

The Mardinians celebrated the draw as a victory, while the Navish defense was the big villain of the game. The Navish team showed that they overestimate their opponent, reminding the Purple’s surprising victory over the Midrasian team by a 4-nil score. After the game, captain Karsten Johansen said: “It was a shame. We didn’t play to win, so we didn’t deserve to. We made mistakes and we paid for them, now we gotta work and make up for them in the next game.” The defender Rolf Moen also gave a quick interview on his way out: “The team mistook a lot today—me especially, and those cost us the victory. A tie is not a loss but we are not content with this result and we will work hard to face Dreyvisevich on Sunday.” Navack now faces Dreyvisevich, the group leader, on Sunday the 8th, in a direct fight for the group’s leadership.

Cúpan an É: Mardin Isles upset Navack in inaugural group game
The Warriors bounce back from a four goal deficit to take a point from their first Copa game in 15 years

4 July 2018, 23:00 / Aonghus Ó Grialais

Image
Mardic players celebrate Ó Coille's last minute equalizer.
The Mardin Isles drew with group F favourites Navack 4-4 in their opening group game of the tournament, their first Copa d'Aeia since 2003.

Going into the match it was odds on for Navack, who were widely expected to pass through the match with ease. Navack started extremely well thanks to a weak early Mardic defense, leading to a Jørgen Hammer-assisted goal thanks to Nikódem Nesz in the 8th minute. From then onward it appeared to go downhill for the Warriors with a second concession seven minutes later by Nesz again, once again helped by an assist by Hammer despite an early deflection by Mardic goalkeeper Marcus Ó Reachtair. The Purples continued their dominance of the first half and with little the Mardic side seemed to be able to do, the first half wouldn't end without a third purple goal from Karsten Johansen.

The second half saw a much better early performance from the laochra. Art Ó Dála pushed against the Navack defense for a convincing on-target shot but missing. The first Mardic corner of the game ended in catastrophe when the Navack side retrieved the ball and began a counter-attack, ending in an easily scored goal by Jørgen Hammer in the 54th minute. By this stage, it looked like game set and match for the Lhedwinic powerhouse and a bitter disappointment for the isles, almost reminding them of the 9-0 defeat to the Purples back in 1956, the Mardin Isles' worst ever international defeat. However, things were to take an unexpected turn of events.

Despite a quickly depleting morale among the Mardic players and supporters, a Cormac Mac Conmara header put the ball in the Navack net for the first time, bringing the game to 4-1 after 62 minutes. Following the subdued celebration a determined Mardic attack brought Diarmaid Ó Muire to shoot the ball into the area, allowing Art Ó Dála to take a shot and managed to net the ball, largely in part due to a major mistake by Navish keeper Ken Bruer. With enthusiasm growing, a pass to Mac Conmara leads to a volley of the ball into the box by Ó Grianna, bringing the difference between the two sides to just one. With Navack becoming more defensive, the Warriors found it incredibly hard to find the box for an equalizer despite dominating possession in the second half.

The miracle came after two and a half minutes of additional play, when a rather spontaneous kicking of the ball led to the ball being kicked out despite the hint of a possible goal. Seán Óg Ó Raghallaigh crosses the ball into the area, where Ruaidhrí Ó Coille finds it and shoots into the net, claiming the crucial equalizer and wrapping up the game, bringing the curtains down on a thrilling game and leaving the team happy with a satisfying opening point in Group F.

The result was met with celebration and delight back home, as pubs and bars packed with people rang in the success of the team against the 2016 semi-finalists. Media research company Ó M Saortharlanna, said that more than 750,000 people watched the match, an impressive figure for a country where association football is not the dominant sport.

Elsewhere in Group F, Dreyvisevich defeated Kagon 1-0 in their opening match, consequentially topping the group. Group C favourites Midrasia defeated Transcandar 4-1 while incumbent champions New Timeria drew with Hipasia in a thrilling 5-5 match.

Mardin Isles' next challenge will be against the controversial Kagon team on Sunday evening, who currently sit bottom of the group. A win for the Warriors is crucial, and could put the team through to the knockout stage for the first time ever.

Hadrien: We must maintain form against Indragiri
Image
The team celebrates Qualquart's goal against Transcandar, ensuring a 4-1 victory in the team's first match
Captain Robert Hadrien has stated that his team must maintain their form ahead of their next match against Indragiri after storming to victory in their opening match against Transcandar. The team easily won the match by four goals to one, ensuring that Midrasia gained one of the best starts to this years' tournament out of all other competitors. Midrasia will play Indragiri later today for their second match of Group C. A win or a draw will likely see the team advance to the knockout rounds, though few within the squad see this as a reason to take it easy.

The match against Transcandar saw manager Pere Clar field his strongest team, holding out no punches for the first match of the tournament. Memories of the 4-0 loss to Navack still fresh in the memory, it was unlikely that the Midrasian team would take it easy in the group stage. The match saw Midrasia start off strong, pressing the Transcandarian team at every opportunity. The high-intensity play from the team was soon rewarded in the 20th minute as Simone Qualquart slotted the ball past Transcarian goalkeeper Abadan. This was soon followed before halftime by a sublime breakaway by up-and-coming star Jacques Joulles who made a darting run upfield following a Transcandarian corner to tap it in for 2-0. Following the half-time break, the Midrasian team once again piled on the pressure, but this time the Transcandarians stood strong. In the 70th minute however, it was Enzo Lazare who scored Midrasia's third. Nevertheless, the Transcandarian team did not relent and within the 84th minute struck back to make it 3-1, to the anger of goalkeeper Florient who chastised his defence for their lacklustre defending against the late game attack. Still, the Midrasian team showed no signs of slipping, with Simone Qualquart once again able to find the net in the 91st minute to end the game at 4-1.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Indragiri was able to beat off Naharin by 1 goal to 0. Whilst Ajerrin were similarly successful in their opening game, winning 3-0 over the Arzvan Republic. All the talk following the first match day however was surrounding New Timeria v Hipasia, and Navack v the Mardin Isles. Timeria, the defending champions, drawing 5 all against Hipasia in a nail-biting, adrenaline-fuelled match. The dragons will be hoping that their title defence will be able to pick some steam up soon, whilst the Hipasians were ecstatic with their result, which puts them in good standing for qualification. Navack threw away a 4-0 lead against the Mardin Isles, placing the team on the back foot for their upcoming group games.

With these set of results, Midrasia's chances of qualification appear good, though both the team and manager continue to downplay Midrasia's position, emphasising the need to focus on maintaining form throughout the entirety of the tournament. Captain Robert Hadrien stated: 'Indragiri are a good team, they definitely won't back down and neither will we. If we want to do well in this tournament and get in a prime position for success, we need to do well in all our matches. Every minute has to count.' Manager Clar was similarly humble in victory, quite unlike his usual self. 'For sure, we performed well, it was disappointing to let that goal in, but i'm sure we can continue our good form in the future.'

Recording taken from Turtleneck Pizzeria in Calderney, where the Aleian national team is.

Gederer: In all those 90 minutes, I never managed to figure out where Sarerdia actually is on a damn map.

Vaher: Its location is to us irrelevant, cause we are not seeing them again. We kicked them, and kicked them out, and kicked them out of Salborga. I suggest this: cheers for Yaglin, man of the match! For him, a cheer of the green one!

Unison: Cheers!

Vaher: Yaglin, you are proof that thick skulls do indeed have a use in this world!

Yaglin: It's an honor.

Londrel: I hope you have all eaten well, at the same level that you did well. Aquidish pizza is a reckoned force in it self. And congratulations to you, Yaglin. We need to discuss the serious stuff.

Elovan: We are listening.

Londrel: I'll be honest. Everything in this group has gone as expected so far. We and Elhazia lost to Crylante, and we both won against Sarerdia. Sarerdia is out, Crylante is in. Everything has gone according to the predictions of the experts, but now it is different. It is the fishes Elhazia and Aleia that the betting people argue about. We managed to combine attack with our defense this time, but Elhazia, they are known for exactly the same thing. I have brought a few tapes from previous Copas, tapes that you will watch tomorrow. By that, I mean the entirety of tomorrow, and then during the last three days, we practice like Elovan suggested last time. Heard?

Vaher: Heard.

Londrel: Good. Never underestimate the power of those Catainese, and if we lose we are going home. We are going home to disappointed wives and girlfriends, but for now, good luck. I swear to you, we will bring back the spirit of 07 at one point. Now, Enje, you told me this pizzeria made delicious citrus desserts or no?

Aleian Team Rescues Copa Effort!

by Arne Ener, Asvard Correspondent
Image
Both the Aleian crowd and team celebrates Yaglin's goal and the team's subsequent victory
against Saredia tonight. They will face Elhazia on the 12th.

On the evening of the 8th July, our Hogmanna made an astounding effort to recover from the defeat suffered four days earlier. They did so successfully. It is not today that Aleia walks home, but rather Sarerdia, and that for good. And that after being kicked out by our players.

The match began at normal time. Immediately, the Aleian team broke expectations by sending Yaglin, Uler, Mart and Elovan on the attack, against the common Aleian tactic of constant defense. The Sarerdian players responded by counterattacking, only to be driven back by the Aleian defense of Vaher and Redel. The back-and-forth fight to catch the ball almost resulted in hand-grabbing, until Yaglin saw an opportunity. In the 30th minute of the match, Elovan pushed forward with Yaglin into the 16-meter boundary, and passed it over to Yaglin through the pure air. Like every Aleian football fan would know, the 29-year old player could not resist doing what he did in 2007, and headbutted the ball straight past the Saredian keeper. Yaglin therefore became the first Aleian player in Copa d'Aeia 2018 to score a goal, and dragged Aleia up from the dirt and grass.

After the goal, the match went its way until half-time, at which substitutes were brought in and a few XI were sent into the boxes, including Yaglin, who suffered a concussion in his valiant act. For the last 45 minutes, Sarerdia pushed themselves on the offensive in a similar fashion to Aleia, but the Aleian players stuck together and adopted their famous defense mechanisms, frustrating any player attempting to make their way to the goal. At '76, the referee dealt substitute Pølker a yellow card and granted Sarerdia a penalty shot. At this point, most could hear the word of the Aleian commentator: "Möll, of Sarerdia, pressure on him. Elovan takes position near the goal. Glokker readies up. Moll takes a step back, runs, RUNS, SHOOTS! BUT THIS IS NOT THE TIME FOR SARERDIA! Two seconds, and Glokker is holding the ball like a precious gold nugget. Praise him and Aleia! Praise Queen Natalia! It is still 1-0 to Aleia, and it will remain like that, I tell you!"

For the last minutes of the match, Sarerdia tried its best to come through. Five minutes of extra time was granted. Aleia tried twice in the period to make the match a 0-2, both through pushes commanded by Elovan, but were unsuccessful at any attempts. However the tired players accepted their simple but great win when the referee blew his whistle at '90+5, a win that has revived Aleian hopes for high achievements in this Copa. With that note, Sarerdia is now out of the tournament.

Our reporters approached Yaglin straight after the match, and he gave his words: "I am proud of myself. 29 years and I still have the chance to recreate the glory of 2007 that I felt! To be honest, I didn't expect myself to be the player of this match. Enje, Mart, those two I favored the most. I am honored, though. I'm sorry, I can't hear your questions; the sound coming from the stadium is too loud. My head is trying to bang my brain out, so: We beat Elhazia! We have our chance at bringing this cup home! Spirit of 07 is still possible to achieve! End of my words. I think we are all going drinking now."

Next match, on the 12th July, Aleia will be facing Elhazia. The match is expected to be the decisive in deciding which country passes onto the knockout stage. Both countries have one win (both against Sarerdia) and one loss (both against Crylante). So far, all betting stations predict 33% Aleia, 33% Draw and 33% Elhazia, so it may be difficult for any watcher to decide a nation to cheer for. Unless they are Aleian.

We wish our players in Salborga best of luck against Elhazia on Thursday!

Ajerrin trampled the tiny country of Isolaprunga in soccer on Sunday, winning 8-0 in the second round for the Copa Cup.

Coach Fiftia Sitake’s team successfully fulfilled the expectations of the 30,000-strong crowd at the Future Stadium in Salborga.and dispatched the island nation 8-0. The match one of the 16 that took place on Sunday.

Not unusually, it took several minutes for the clear favorite to break through the defensive wall. Evan after Koholo Ola beat his defender and headed the ball into he net in the 10th minute, Isolaprunga stood firm for another quarter of an hour.

Sitake acknowledged Isloaprunga’s stiff resistance in the first half-hour. “After the first 30 minutes, the flood gates opened. The pressure, and the conditioning of the Ajerri professionals, proved too great for Isolaprunga. By the end of the first half, the score stood 6-0 on three goals by Ola, two from Kokoa and one from Kekepania.

Goalkeeper Kama hele Alana, whose white and green jersey remained unstained during the match, played for 40 minutes before Mataki Aluwana stood guard and had two saves. At the 50th minute, Ola scored his third goal and was exchanged with the young striker Keo Kekoa, who quickly scored in the 52nd and 72nd minutes.

Captain Wainani Mano, who played his 101st game, believes the team is going down the right path. “When we come up against difficult opponents, we’ll have to adjust more to that team’s abilities,” he said. “Nevertheless, we want to play our style of ball and we’ve done that the last few weeks.”

Ajerrin’s next match will be more difficult, when they play the defensive Motsvara, a team who has only allowed two goals to Isolaprunga. While the Sharks have scored a record eleven goals in only two games, the People’s Republic of Motsvara has only scored one and lost to Arzvan Republic 0-1 today.
