In association with the Starblaydia Football Association:

The Forty-Third Di Bradini Cup
a.k.a
The 64th Under-21 World Cup

The Valanora Footballing Association proudly presents the forty-third edition of the Di Bradini Cup, the elventh edition of which to be held in the Valanora. Recognized as direct successor to the original Under-21 World Cup run by Total n Utter Insanity, this is also the 64th Under-21 World Cup.

This tournament is named after Starblaydia's most-famous player, the first person to score for Starblaydia's own Under-21s, currently the fifth-highest goalscorer in Starblaydia's history, World Cup Winner, member of the World Cup Hall of Fame and one-time President of the World Cup Committee: Simeone Di Bradini. We present, for your participation: The 43rd Di Bradini Cup, a.k.a. The 64th Under-21 World Cup!

Map of Valanora

Valanora Information
The most important thing to know about traveling through Valanora is that automobiles are banned except for government officials. A high tech railway system connects the entirety of the nation, with three international airports in Raynor City, Gladerial, and Baysleef. A ferry from Rinaldi travels to and from the island of Capri every hour on the hour. The most distinguishing feature of Valanora is the prevalent amount of forests standing in many of the inner half of the nation, even in cities, with the elven attempts to live in harmony with nature. Vanorians are a polite if not a bit high on themselves, believing elvenkind to be superior to humans, though they show a respect for the potential their humanoid cousins have.

Anthoran Under-21 National Team
Presented By the Anthoran Football Council

Anthor's U21 team returns for their third straight DBC appearance, and for the first time since their debut in DBC40, the entire team has for the most part been replaced. The Jak McCourt and Benji Sergeant era was concluded in last year's DBC as the majority of the team reached the age of 21 and thus, manager Vin Thurstan has returned to the national pool to select the latest crop of young players to showcase Anthoran talent. His selection has been made easier thanks to the establishment of the National Initiate Advancement Program, which has now been around for a full four seasons and presents Thurstan with a large pool of youngsters who have had serious, formal training and coaching in the sport, and thus start off better advantaged to play better at this high levels which is something he is definitely going to want as Anthor has been drawn into a bit of a group of death, sharing their group with football dynasties such as Ethan and Kita-Hinode. Talented youngster Greg Hightower is making his first appearance on the U21 team this year, and has already been selected as the captain and he's joined by a number of fellow NIAP students; in fact, nearly the entire squad has been tutored under the program. The number of forward attackers that were available to Thurstan is much greater then in years past, as the NIAP has been attempting to develop better attackers versus traditional defenders that academies have previously featured, and thusly Thurstan has admitted his tactics for the upcoming DBC will be altered significantly to be more pace-oriented attack.

Ázëwyn Fëanáro, Starblaydia's
Manager at both Under-21
and senior level

Two-time Under-21 champions return with their eyes on making it three, boosted by the senior national side's rise up the rankings to the heady heights of 15th in the world. The young players coming through now have a bar to meet, a sense of momentum to continue, and what better way than taking a third Under-21 World Cup title, their second Di Bradini Cup championship? Ázëwyn Fëanáro has brought together the best of her available Under-21 talent to Valanora. Led by the frenetic ball of energy that is Aaron Cole, held by the icy cool calmness of Capodanno in midfield, ready to unleash the voracious attack talent of Kota Sato - Starblaydia's team is a rock solid, balanced side that is looking to go deep into the knockout phase this time around.

Staff
AF. Ázëwyn Fëanáro*, Manager, 4,050
270 Caps, 71 Goals (Uncapped at Under-21 level)
Known as a player for her excellent attacking play, range of passing and great eye for goal that lifts her to second in the all-time goalscorers list too, by virtue of a nearly 1-in-4 ratio, Ázëwyn Fëanáro is a symbol of grace, power and beauty from Starblaydia's golden age, some hundred and twenty-five years ago when the Cup was in its 40s. It is these qualities that the SFA managed to recapture with Fëanáro at the helm, bringing her trademark poise and piercing yell to the touchlines after more than a decade of national failures. She has taken her team to three straight Finals now, and her methods and tactics are obviously working for her teams. Can the Under-21 World Cup be within her grasp?

JM. Jerzy Makuszewski, Assistant Manager, 60
83 Caps, 0 Goals (6 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Known as "Chef" by those who can pronounce his surname correctly, Makuszewski took up the mantle of "Best in the World" Lucas Cable to become Starblaydia's unassailable number one between the posts and wear the captain's armband. Always a fiery character, he can shift from jovial to furious in moments, and is Fëanáro's 'enforcer', barking out orders and remonstrating with players and officials with equal fervour.

Goalkeepers
Amari Ollario is Starblaydia's first female goalkeeper in a very long time, following in the footsteps of Sandra van Agmark, Natalie Jensen, Triinu Arnulpho and the great Paola Mendez, who was for a time Starblaydia's highest cap-winning goalie with 60 appearances for her country. Ollario has a good command of her area and is cool under pressure, though tends to punch more often than is necessary.

1. Amari Ollarion*, GK, 21 = Corinthian Spirits
12. Roberto Calligaro, GK, 17 - Zeppelin University (Kita-Hinode)
19. Cosmo Leopoldo, GK, 13 - Unattached

Defenders
A standard back four with the full-backs having license to roam forward, particularly Todaro down the right hand side to overlap with Beretano. Sigismund, with the nature of Sato him front of him, will be the more restrained of the two as he ensures to keep the gap in front of him filled.

2. Lucian Todaro, RB, 19 - Tabeck FC
3. Theodore Sigismund, L/CB, 17 - Cedrus Soundgardia
5. Sami Viipuri, CB, 20 - Hippion Overdrive
6. Sam Massomiira, CB, 21 - Hallad Reavers
13. Arnold Navarro, CB/DM, 16 - Unattached
14. Maria Reyes*, R/CB, 15 - Senso-Shukujo Ladies HS (Kita-Hinode)
20. Manish Chakraborty, CB, 13 - Unattached
21. Uriah Naaman, LB, 13 - Unattached

Midfielders
Two defensive midfielders make this Starblaydi midfield a rock in the centre, though the shaven head of Navarro and the blonde locks of Capodanno could barely be more at odds with each other. Capodanno is naturally the more defensive attack-breaker, but the wide players provide the attacking spark. Kota Sato in particular is the exciting star of this midfield, racing away down the wing, hurdling challenges as he goes.

4. Viola Capodanno*, L/DM, 17 - Tabeck Cefn Druids
7. Kota Sato, L/AM, 20 - Montepool Waves
8. Arnold Navarro, C/DM, 19 - Jhanna City
11. Carlotta Beretano*, RM, 21 - Tabeck Cefn Druids
15. Giorgos Dimitriou, C/AM, 16 - FC St. Jakob (Siovanija and Teusland)
16. Glauco Vega, R/DM, 15 - Koshu Dragon Guard HS (Kita-Hinode)
22. Arkady Krakowski, LM/LW, 13 - Unattached

Forwards
Cole the bruiser, the playmaker, the string-puller in what every other nation might call the archetypal 'Number 10' position. In Starblaydi naming conventions, however, the number 10 is often the out-and-out goal hanger, with the number 9 hanging back either as the playmaker or huge target man. Cole is a player of the likes Starblaydia has not seen in a long while, a lethal forward and devilish assist-provider. Coupled with Kaufman, the poacher, the sneaker and the fox-in-the-box, these two have the potential to make magic up front for this team.

9. Aaron Cole, Captain, SC, 21 - Corinthian Spirits
10. Mercy Kaufman*, SC, 17 - Beverington Hawks
17. Takashi Matsumoto, CF, 15 - TSV Marzig (Siovanija and Teusland)
18. Elianora Mendez*, SC, 17 - Tentai University (Kita-Hinode)
23. Alan Eccleston, SC, 13 - Unattached

Generation Five brings it all back to the beginning with Starblaydia's iconic, traditional and ubiquitous all-white Home kit, and the all-purple Away kit, both with five gold stars - representing their record-setting five World Championships - above the Starblaydi Football Association logo.

Di Bradini Cup 43: Savojarna's 23 men for Valanora are known

Football is a highly popular sport in Savojarna, even though it usually has to take the #2 spot behind ice hockey. Thanks to bigger stadia, the Savojar Futbol Serien (SFS) still manages to draw the highest average attendance numbers in the country year after year and is generally considered a fast-growing league offering lots of openings for young players, as evidenced by the majority of the U21 roster playing in the league or in its second tier (SFS 2) already. Savojarna's top team is ranked 28th in the world, and the next generation is always somewhat under pressure to follow up on their predecessors. Savojarna are a common guest among the KO rounds of the Di Bradini Cup, which is considered a testament to the strong youth level of the sport in the nation. The focus of Savojar football is traditionally on tactics, teamplay and athleticism. However, the youth team is often a bit more wild than the average Savojar side and plays up its speed a bit more under its new coach, Pyotr Kolarov, who is the first Russian-language coach of any Savojar national team in history.

LINEUP AND TACTICS

Savojarna are usually playing a flat 4-4-2 with two parallel lines of four and heavy pressing from the two forwards, aiming for a quick counter. In case of possession, Poulsen moves forward and the winger on the non-possessing side moves in towards the goal. If they are behind, the two wingers often join the pressing, making the formation more akin to a 4-2-2-2. The lineup is as follows:

Goalkeeper: Albin Lindholm
Lindholm is the only U21-eligible goalkeeper who regularly plays in the highest tier and set as the Nr. 1 GK of the team. His first replacement would likely be Jushchenko, but if Savojarna are already qualified before their last game Tjova may play as he is assumed to take over Lindholm's post next time. Albin Lindholm is an agile goalkeeper with good reflexes on the line, but some weaknesses in terms of box control.

Defence: Matts Pedersen, Rasmus Vikborg, Oleg Eremenko, Flemming Skov
Pedersen and Skov are a pair of fast and aggressive fullbacks who are hard to pass, but may be a bit too agressive on the attack occasionally. A strong and fast opponent may be able to use this to their advantage. Both, but especially Skov are known for incredible stamina and will rarely be replaced, but if it happens both their replacements are more defensive. Especially Nemtsov is known as a highly annoying opponent who never gives up on an opponent. Centre-backs Vikborg and Eremenko are both hard to get by because of their physical strength and towering height, but are somewhat vulnerable to quick passing. When they have the ball, Vikborg shows some clear weaknesses while Eremenko is usually calm, but unimaginative. Neither of them are included in constructive play much. The most notable substitute is Zibo Olberg, a fast and creative CB that can also play as a defensive midfielder. Erlandsen, on the other hand, is mostly a one-to-one replacement with similar strengths and weaknesses.

Midfield: Kasperi Lehtonen, Morten Poulsen, Victor Loeseth, Mikhail Jashkin
Lehtonen and Jashkin are fast wingers with a dangerous shot or cross, and they both search for opportunities wherever they can. Jashkin in particular is known for a deadly eye and his laser-like passes. In between them, Loeseth and Poulsen take on clear defensive and offensive roles. Poulsen is the creative mind of the team and a very quick player for the counter-attack. His left foot is very accurate and given his young age, he is already very cool under pressure. Loeseth is more defensively oriented and has a good talent for calming down the match, but rarely creates any flashy plays. His secret weapon is his heavy shot which can score from a long distance. Baldvinsson is a solid, hard-to-pass and incredibly strong defensive midfielder who is likely to come into play if a match has to be secured. On the other hand, Shipulin and Vuotala are creative and fast midfielders that can open the play, but are considered somewhat too flashy and feeble for the starting lineup. On the wings, Borkerud is more or less a carbon copy of Jashkin, but with more focus on crosses rather than counter passes and a bit weaker on the defence. His counterpart on the right, Olsen, is a hard-driving winger who is more offensive than Jashkin and often pulls into the box to search for a shot.

Forwards: Vilhjalmur Ruriksson, Simon Jacobsen
Simon Jacobsen, allegedly named after tournament namesake Simeone di Bradini (in a more Savojarised form), is a highly talented forward that is called the biggest talent on the team by some observers. However, he is rather small by Savojar standards and has to rely on speed and technique even against physically superior opponents. His counterpart Ruriksson is supposed to alleviate this problem with his impressive handball-player -ish physique of almost two metres and 112 kg. Despite his size, Ruriksson is rather fast but takes a long time to accelerate. Onagin is a good allrounder who fits somewhat between the two and is especially known for his solid defensive duties, but can also score plenty of goals if he gets the space he needs.

The Pony Principality of Equestrian States
National U21 Hoofball Team - Di Bradini Cup 43 Roster

Introduction
The last cycle of international tournaments has been an unusual one for the Equestrian States' national hoofball teams. Historically, the Equestrians have performed extremely well at the youth level while the senior team has frequently underachieved, but in the last cycle this trend has been reversed with the youth sides making underwhelming group stage exits and the Ponies following up their Cup of Harmony quarterfinals appearance by reaching that same stage in the AOCAF Cup and then in the World Cup itself. However, though casual Equestrian supporters may be distracted from the Little Ponies' disappointments by the senior team finally reaching deeper into the multiverse's most prestigious competitions, the same cannot be said of the Hoofball Association who reacted to the Little Ponies dismal outings in the Under-18 World Cup and Di Bradini Cup by sacking U18 manager Subtle Trix and by warning U21 manager Red Dwarf that - despite his history of success - he might share the same fate if player performance continues to decline.

With the Little Ponies struggling defensively in the last edition of the Di Bradini Cup, manager Red Dwarf has brought several new defenders into the squad, Nightshade and Zeorge the only members of the Equestrian back line to retain their jobs from last cycle. Meanwhile, among the midfielders and forwards, former captain Luminesce and striker Decima are the only notable departures as the pair age out from the U21 squad. With most of the Little Ponies' midfield intact from last cycle, the Equestrian States once again boasts one of the tournament's most talented and experienced midfields, which Red Dwarf doubtlessly is hoping will translate to success going forward. Red Dwarf is reportedly not going to be content with merely keeping his job and a solid group stage performance, but will instead be aiming to claim the Equestrian States' second Di Bradini Cup title here in Valanora.

Kits

The Equestrian States U21 squad receives its kits from Generosity Sporting Equipment, an Equestrian-based sportswear company that has recently begun to stake a claim on the international hoofball kit market, with clubs in Atlantian Oceania and Esportiva among those to hire their designers. The Equestrian kits were designed to be simple and easy to identify, using the national colors of purple and orange.

Players

Goalkeepers
As always, the Little Ponies boast incredible depth and talent in goal, with Cyan Skies retaining her starting job from last cycle. The best goalkeeper to come out of Whitetail since Gentle Breeze, Cyan Skies doesn't quite have the same world-class potential that the senior team's current superstar keeper did when she occupied the U21 job, but the pegasus has nonetheless done exceptionally well for the Foresters in the United League since taking over for Gentle Breeze. Backing up Cyan Skies are Shooting Star, the current second-choice keeper at perennial title-favorites Ponyville United, and Archangel, a griffoness from New Cloudsdale who has recently claimed the starting job at Stalliongrad HC.

Defenders
Nightshade and Zeorge both keep their spots in the starting XI from last cycle, but for very different reasons. Nightshade is a full international and easily the best defender the Little Ponies have at the moment, while Zeorge is largely in the squad because he offers a couple of traits that are rarely seen among Equestrian hoofballers: size and physicality. Right back Ironhoof is perhaps the best players among those new to the squad, extremely solid defensively with a knack for leadership, only missing out last year because of an untimely leg injury. Amethyst completes the Equestrian States' back line, bringing several years of United League starting experience to the table. Red Dwarf will also have several solid defenders he can rely upon on the bench, including Whitetail Foresters fullback Célestine Belrose, who some scouts argue is the best defender among the Equestrians' newest generation of talent.

Midfielders
Without question, midfield is where the Equestrian States' greatest strength lies on this roster, with a deep pool of skilled, experienced, and extremely promising young talents for Red Dwarf to draw from. Rose Petal is already making frequent appearances for the senior team, narrowly missing out on making the Ponies' finals squad at the last World Cup. Indigo Zap is a lightning-quick agile attacking midfielder who reminds many of Rainbow Blitz and is not coincidentally also a product of the Cloudsdale Flyers academy. Josef Lawerenz has taken his abilities to another level since moving to Banija a couple years ago and is widely considered one of the Banijan league's most exciting young players. Serenity and Thunderclap are both starters for two of the United League's top clubs despite their young ages, providing support both going forwards and defensively as needed. The Little Ponies' bench is also jam-packed with talent, including under-18s captain Sunny Day and AFC Hosingr's breakout star Sugar Wing.

Forwards
The Little Ponies' attack certainly isn't short on experience this year, with Jungle Strike FC's Midnight Strike winning the coveted starting job with his lethal finishing ability and quick hooves. Dûsh Bagg, Val Kylx's Equestrian prodigy, will likely be the first off the bench, especially if he can emulate his Slembanan mentor's knack for scoring late goals. Nightingale and Shining Star, meanwhile, will be looking to prove their value to the Little Ponies, just as they have for their respective title-contending clubs.

On Species and Equestrian Hoofball
The Equestrian States is a nation of incredible diversity. When many countries make this kind of statement, they are referring only to racial matters dealing with differences in skin color or culture. But the Equestrian States takes diversity to a whole new level, with dozens of sapient species living alongside each other in harmony. From pegasai to griffons, and humans to dragons, the Equestrian States is among the most diverse nations known to exist. But diversity has also had a unique and intriguing impact on the playing of sports in the Equestrian States, and hoofball is no exception. In the following paragraphs, the natural strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies of each prominent species in the Equestrian States will be explored, offering those unfamiliar with the Equestrian States a chance to explore the wonderful diversity that makes the Equestrian States a great country and gives our beloved national hoofball team a versatility that few others can hope to match.

Football Association of the Commonwealth of Baker Park

The FAC was founded in 1901 and currently has 124 full member clubs, 307 associate member clubs and approximately 21,000 registered players--male & female--between the ages of 11 to 65+ as well as approximately 3,100 registered officials, both male & female. It sponsors competitions across all age groups, genders and ability levels, including 12 National Championships and 6 domestic cup competitions for men and women.

Major Multiverse Honors—Baptism of Fire 67 Runners-up
SWC 5 Under-18 Champions
DiBradini Cup 42/63 Quarterfinalists

The Commonwealth Under-21 National team makes a return to the DiBradini Cup, where they made their international debut at the last edition. They bring a coed team to the event, after fielding an all male squad at DBC 42. Jennifer Prescott will lead the team, following her stint as the assistant manager for the Under-18 side that won the SWC 5; she brings 6 members of that group to add to 13 returners and has called upon 3 other players she has coached previously with the Women's U21 team to fill out the roster.

The FAC is thrilled that they have been invited to make their training base at the facilities of AS Sharala again for this tournament; the support of the club & their fans was an important factor in the success the team had on its first international appearance.

Nickname--since the end of the 1960's the National Team has been known as "The Bees", a period when the team's uniforms had alternating black and gold hoops. The bee is an element on the coat of arms of the Commonwealth--a long accepted heraldic symbol of industriousness--but the association was actually a reference made in an Italian newspaper game story when the senior team was wearing the hooped shirts, referring to the BP team as il Bombi (the bumblebees) for their perseverance and swarming tactical play.

Colors--Black & Gold (while they are just 2 of the 5 main colors on the flag of Baker Park--Blue, Red and White are the others--black & gold have been closely associated in the nation's consciousness as representative of the
country since its founding.)

Cosumar DBC43 Roster

Postby Cosumar » Fri Jun 29, 2018 12:02 am

Cosumar U21 National Team
Di Bradini Cup 43

Image

Team Information

Nation: The Fiefdom of Cosumar

Government: Cosumar is comprised of 21 historical fiefs that now function as provinces. The Fiefdom is a constitutional monarchy with King James II and the King's Congress at its head. The pillars of full personal freedoms, protecting nature, advancing knowledge, exploring outer space and, increasingly, passionate soccer support are held dear and instilled in the youth of each generation.

Region: Atlantian Oceania

Nickname: Junior Dragons

Colors: Royal Blue, Silver, Navy, White

Stadium: Estadio MasseMord (capacity 43.000) in Azuris, South Klyde Fief

Note on Vloo: The roster consists of 23 players, all but one of whom are standard humans. The remaining player, defender Va'Kar, is of the Vloo people (homo cosumarensis). The Vloo are a sentient species native to Cosumar. They are humanoid in shape and slightly taller on average, with a subtle pale blue tint to their skin and a pair of horns protruding from their foreheads. The range of athleticism in Vloo is similar to that of humans. You can recognize which players are Vloo by their surnames: which usually begin with one of three clan-based prefixes: Na'-, Va'- or Vu'-.

Team: Due to a string of underachieving tournaments, Johannes Sulo was removed as U21 manager after DBC 41. In his place stepped Lyndalyn Alford last time around, plucked from her post with Real Azuris' U18 team after their unprecedented success at the youth level. Alford's new-look U21 squad will play a bit more pragmatically than Alexander Pearce's senior team did at the World Cup, with the wingers pressing high and wide instead of tucking in to combine, and a lethal target forward who seldom leaves the box as he waits for aerial delivery (Tosset) instead of having the ball played into his feet. Cosumar U21 will try to force mistakes and capitalize on them with quick, up-tempo passing. Expectations aren't incredibly high for this tournament, as it sort of caught Cosumar between generations. "New golden generation" players like Isla Sibučić and Bryger Tidesson have just aged out and there isn't a whole lot behind them yet in certain positions. Some of the depth was sourced from the U18 side that just finished the Sporting World Cup. That said, there are still prominent players for big Härlighet Ligan, Schottic and Audioslavian clubs present, headlined by Kai-Kai Mokumdarian, who made his presence felt on the senior team towards the end of World Cup 80 Qualifying. Meanwhile, there are some familiar surnames with Alexander Pearce's son Richard and all three of Bryger's little sisters. With the Di Bradini Cup 35 title now far faaaaar in the rearview mirror, the pressure is ON for this new generation to reclaim youth football's most storied prize. Will it be this one against the odds?

Kits

Image

Donning the uniform of the senior National Team is a prestigious honor. One that must be earned. So, our youth teams do not use the same one. They're given the old NT kits that were used in World Cup 70 and decommissioned prior to World Cup 71. Courtesy of Meski Sports. The home (left) and away (middle) kits feature the iconic Azure Dragon that resides in Cosumar's northern wilderness. The goalkeeper kit (right) is swathed in green and gold - the colors of the royal family.

Starting XI

Goalkeeper - Edith Tidesson - 21F - Real Azuris Image
Tall, long-limbed goalkeeper with excellent reflexes, and her confidence commanding her six-yard box is growing. Intelligent and enjoys showing it. She's also the middle Tidesson: younger than Bryger and Alfred, older than Birgid and Tilda.

Left Back - Allalani Va'Kar - 20F - Mâ Âlâmëómë Image
Poised to continue the tradition of Cosumarite left backs in Farfadillis, Va'Kar has the tools to become a terrific force up and down the left flank. Short but well-built and supremely athletic. Already has the soccer brain, just needs to keep developing the quality with the ball to keep up with it. Studying her idol and fellow Vloo at Mâ Âlâmëómë, Bacary Na'Kale, will help.

Center Back - Eero Solari - 21M - Bastion Image
Tall, athletic, composed on the ball and already a natural leader. Earned the captaincy at fourth-tier Somberlain FC at age 17 and anchored their defense to promotion. Snapped up by Bastion after subsequent exposure in the U18 WC, though he hasn't yet had a major breakthrough there.

Center Back - Horatius Chaumancer - 21M - Centralis Heart Image
Already capped at the senior level, Chauamancer will captain this team after emerging as a standard-bearer in the last DBC. His muscular frame and fierce mentality made him an instant favorite in Electrum too. Off the pitch, an unerringly direct guy who always says what he means and what needs to be said, even when unpopular.

Right Back - Bryan Estes - 21M - Marinos Metropolis Image
Quick, fluid player on the right side who has been starting matches and honing his craft in Apox (Wofford Town) since the early age of 16. Recently earned an upwards move to Valladares. Success here could see him quickly catapulted into a major role at World Cup 81, though lack of height and physicality remain a concern.

Central Midfielder - Dane Pridgeon - 18M - Cazadores Cathair Image
Even at 13, it was already clear that Dane would be an athlete of the rarest breed. His combination of raw pace, power, height and quick-twitch reflexes allowed him to play well above his age group. His actual football skills have finally caught up now too! He became a regular starter in Audioslavia last season at 18, fitting into a quality Cazadores squad as the type of invaluable player who will fly all around the pitch and insert himself into the action, breaking up play as well as getting involved in the final-third. He's still a bit rough-around-the-edges, but he seems destined for a long future in silver-and-blue.

Central Midfielder - Kai-Kai Mokumdarian - 21M - Cornellians Image
Also a center mid distinctly unlike the usual Cosumarite mold. Tall, athletic, two-footed, at his best best surging up through the middle with the ball to set things in motion. Native of Rexnor Colony. Set Port Christopher alight with San Marco Storm, earning Galactico Junior runner-up honors, a big SPL move and senior caps at World Cup 80. The face of this DBC roster.

Left Winger - Richard Pearce - 21M - Cornellians Image
An enterprising winger, who has genuine flair and a bright future ahead of him, Pearce is the son of Cosumar national team and former Cornellians boss, Alexander. He has made a handful of first team appearances for the Schottic megaclub, but will probably seek a move abroad next window after proving himself on loan in Eura last year.

Central Attacking Mid - Taka Masatoshi - 19M - Mallox Image
The Galactico Junior finalist's best attribute is his quickness and evasiveness in space. He looks very natural dribbling the ball and it's very difficult to take it off of him due to his close-control. He also doesn't seem to get fazed by big moments or stages. Can play as a pure set-up man or as a secondary striker (as he does at Mallox alongside Kárpáty).

Right Winger - Skaldir Tibrewal - 18M - Goldstaff City Image
A man-child who has been getting senior minutes at Goldstaff City since he was 15 (though he already looked 28). Now he's a starter at 18 and looks 30. Doesn't appear particularly athletic, but gets up and down the right side surprisingly fast. Plays with a real moxie and steel too. Probably at his best in more of a wingback role, but has enough skill to do a job as a winger at this level.

Center Forward - Kletus Tosset - 21M - Oljestaden IF Image
A very physical striker who burns with the desire to win and score goals at any cost. He doesn't take no shit, especially on aerial duels. Had a dominant freshman season at UWI, but has remained a benchwarmer since cutting his collegiate career short and moving to Audioslavia. This is a big opportunity for Kletus to prove he's got what it takes.

Image

Bench

GK - Gianluc De Oca - 20M - AC Stonehenge Image
Labelled a prodigy at Rocinante Prep School and Centre For Excellence, youth soccer savants in Cosumar were curious to see how De Oca would fare in his first professional season. Now, Njiko RZN is no top league yet, but it still says a lot that he instantly won the starting job at Freeman Turf and led his club to a championship, allowing only 43 goals.

LB - Ballou Melmendier - 20M - Samaj FC Image
The Samaj FC homegrown has impressed in his spot minutes behind Ophelia Lovelock, including some eyebrow-raising performances in the Globe Cup. He's far from a finished product technically and mentally, but his pace and physique can't be taught.

CB - Ruye Pentakota - 21F - New Llama Capitals Image
A solid, well-rounded defender. Not the highest ceiling physically, but she's always in the exact right spot. Comes from a remote rural area. Somehow, the Capitals unearthed her playing for her school team, but she almost turned down the professional contract offer because of a deathly fear of air travel. She's grown since then, but retains a small town charm.

CB - Mortola Teffeteller - 20F - Chenoworth Rovers Image
A broad-shouldered defender who loves a crunching tackle but can also dribble and pass out of the back. Fits like a glove in the Nepharim First Division.

RB - Jorj Pjetrovic - 20M - Morponte Fief Image
The industrious right back was a major piece of Morponte Fief's return to Sekundar Ligan relevance over the last two seasons. As a mere teenager, Pjetrovic's contributions to the attack AND defense week-in-week-out helped the Riders to the brink of HL promotion. With his sharp nose and spiked jet-black hair, Pjetrovic has a distinguished air about him and his cultured play matches it.

DM - Yunsik Kvownik - 21M - Northampton Image
A physical destroyer who relishes the role. But he's not completely one-dimensional... he's a smooth passer of the ball too. Yunsik impressed the coaches at Barbury Town so much that he locked down the starting job there before his very first professional season. The subsequent collapse of the ANL was a setback, but he could earn his way back onto the NT radar with success in the Terranean league.

CM - Reginius Kunst - 19M - Suwawa FC Image
Formerly the highest-rated teenager in the youth ranks at Gwynt Tywyll, Reginius sought out an unconventional move to Banija because he was impatient with the speed at which their cautious manager was integrating him with the first team. Seems to have a good motor and air of quality about him when he gets the ball, but he remains shrouded in mystery.

LW - Ixpo Zrnić - 19M - Sporting Rafelonia Image
The Cosumarite-by-birth has come up through the youth ranks at this Mercedinian yo-yo club and been a regular in the 18 over the last few seasons, but he's still trying to cement himself as a surefire starter.

CAM - Birgid Tidesson - 20F - Real Azuris Image
Amongst the Tidesson family, Birgid is matched only by Bryger in sheer physical and technical ability. She's a bundle of pace and is just as fast with the ball as without it. Her feet have a natural feel for the perfect pass or perfect shot. The only problem is that she doesn't quite have the same hunger for success or love for the game as her siblings. Growing up surrounded by the soccer industry has made her somewhat jaded to it. A penchant for drinking, partying and adding to her body art may be holding her back from being trusted with more than a super-sub role at Real Azuris. But there wasn't a chance it would hold her back - with her rare skill - from being snubbed in a shallow U21 cycle.

RW - Tilda Tidesson - 18F - AC Holmenkollen Image
The youngest Tidesson, Tilda is the opposite of Birgid in many ways. Her older siblings are her heroes and she strives to be just like them on and off the pitch. Always upbeat, always the "little angel" of the family. She doesn't excel at any one thing, but her game is an amalgamation of some of her siblings' defining attributes. She has Edith's long legs and lean build, Alfred's earnest mentality in defending, Birgid's two-footedness and Bryger's penchant for a good cross. In short? She makes an ideal wingback. She'll play further upfield here, though, than she does for Real Azuris or her loan club Holmenkollen.

ST - Fion "Krazy" Tzyzakoos - 20F - Olask Islanders Image
Fi is a zany personality who was one of the breakout stories of the last Härlighet Ligan season at 18, seemingly scoring every time she subbed on late for the Islanders. Learning from Nepharim veteran Chrysanthe Scafidis, "Krazy" has a chance to be a star in this league sooner rather than later. She hustles and bustles and doesn't stop until she makes something happen. Once she does, and a chance develops, she will chose POWER over precision or prettiness 10 times out of 10.

ST - Arden Lemons - 21F - Crawford City FC Image
A smooth, two-footed finisher who has the quality to make something of herself at CCFC or somewhere of similar stature if it doesn't come to fruition at home. Can't create much herself, but makes really good runs. Amethyst Fegelein supposedly rates her, but it's tough to get minutes behind Hannah Alcouin and Kevin Stabb. This could be a chance to put herself in the shopping window.

The Blaneu Broadsheet
Three Years After 'The Event' Blaneu Prepares To Engage With New World

On the third anniversary of 'The Event' Blaneu finds itself preparing to engage with a new and confusing world. Until the event, Blaneu was a quiet backwater kind of place, a small self-governing island in the Celtic sea, belonging to the Prince of Wales. Few people lived here, some retired to Blaneu to live in blissful obscurity, especially to the quiet sandy expanses of the Cape on the west coast. But then 'The Event' happened, everyone remembers the day but few agree on the details. Some said they felt the earth move, others saw lightening, and many claimed that everything smelt like digestive biscuits and rubber. Regardless, connection to the world as we knew it was lost, the island helicopters were sent out to explore, but they could't find Wales, or even the nearby southern coast of Ireland. In the months following the event, contact was eventually established with the outside world, not an outside world that we in fact recognized. So, now on the third anniversary of the event, Blaneu is conducting its first engagement as a country, a championship for national football teams under the age of 21.

So, here is the squad that will be bravely setting foot into a land populated by elves...

This side will have a difficult first clash with Starblaydia, a side with such historical pedigree that this tournament is named after one of their players. Selection has been somewhat of a nightmare, with the Blaneuan FA forced to decide whether to send talented youngsters to the Di Bradini Cup, or the Independents cup. Well, selectors seem to have opted to give the young talent a chance to shine in this tournament, with players like Tudur Aled, Dyfed Elron and Rhodri Apnest getting the nod for the youth side. These three, along with most of this squad, will all be looking to impress, as the stars of this tournament are likely to enter into the full national team set up over the next World Cup cycle.

Sending the strongest youth side to play has landed the BFA in for some criticism, it has led to the squad being sent to the Independents Cup consisting of many older players (their average age is over 30), with little promise that they'll be able to compete. However, the BFA has stressed that, given the paucity of talent in the first XI, it is important to develop the younger generations talents with an eye on the next couple of world cup cycles. Critics have countered that, a, the Independents Cup could have been a good opportunity to blood the younger players ready for the World Cup ahead, and b, that this younger generation are too old to fully benefit from the revamped youth set up, so putting all hopes of them for the future is foolish anyway.

The new set-up at Blaneu has seen the u21s set up in a formation that the BFA intend to implement on the national team in time, with a 3-1-3-3 set-up. The formation intends to use the three at the back and the DM to keep things tight at the back, whilst allowing creative players to bomb down the wings and press on the Counter-Attack. Key to the set-up is Caradog Gwent in defensive midfield, not only is he a solid ball stopper, he has the ability to pick out precise long-passes to put the forwards through on goal, as well as creating space off the ball by drawing opponents defenders out of position, especially during set-plays. The area where the squad is weakest is up front, with John Pottinger being effective at poaching goals and being poor at almost every other aspect of the game. Many expect to see 17 year old wonder-kid Gethin Powell utilized in his place should his lack of pace and match intelligence lead to Blaneu struggling to score.

Build-up to the 2235 Di Bradini Cup
Starblaydia set their sights on the title

Just a year on from the 80th World Cup and the pageantry that only Starblaydia can produce when hosting the Final, the SFA starts sending out the press releases once again, announcing Starblaydia's squad and trying to strike the right balance between getting people excited about Starblaydia's chances of victory and the strenuous tests ahead from their announced and potential opposition. Starblaydia is currently riding a wave of positive momentum, as the national team has made the knockouts of the past two senior World Cups in a row, while four years ago the Under-21s were only dumped out of the Di Bradini Cup by the eventual champions, Pasarga. The Pasargans went on to win their fourth Under-21 World Cup in their history, joining the legendary Fmjphoenix teams with the most titles in Under-21 history, thanks largely to a remarkable three titles in the past six editions. Starblaydia's two championships, on the other hand, are not all that far behind, but the first step on the road is to examine the squad that Ázëwyn Fëanáro has put together for this tilt at the windmill.

The Squad

With attacking wide midfielders and two strikers, Starblaydia are likely to play a high pressing line against their opponents, something that has been used to good effect with the 4-3-3 of the national team. This one still looks like a 4-4-2 on paper, though, so against the teams that pack the midfield, Starblaydia will need to be at their best to overcome their numerical disadvantage. They have the potential to switch to a midfield three, pushing Sato forward and into the centre, and bringing the full-backs forward in support, but this is a team that will be built on the rocks of central midfield, giving license for the wingers to push on, play captain Aaron Cole into the game, with Mercy Kaufman there to mop up the ball if it goes free. There are definitely a few names to watch for the future, and here's why:

Aaron Cole, Captain, 21, Forward
Four Under-21 appearances to his name, the most of this squad, and a goal against Qasden, the fifth of a 5-1 demolition in the previous tournament, for Starblaydia's captain. He'll be the link between midfield and the forwards, happily playing with his front or back to goal as he creates attacks and brings the rest of the team into play. He's not shy of a shot from outside the area, but his best ability comes in his assist making. Though not particularly big, he's stronger than he looks, able to fend off challenges, and has great footwork to turn or pull out a neat piece of skill to release the ball to a teammate. When Cole is playing well, the whole team can get a lift.

Kota Sato, 20, Midfielder
The current Golden Boy of the Montepool Waves, Sato has the speed and the technique to unlock any defence as he scampers down the left touchline. He's improving his crossing ability, but what he loves most is to jink inside and fire across the face of goal with his spectacular left foot. He has the engine to run all day and the toughness, as well as the agility, to brush off and avoid most challenges that come his way. Definitely look out for his highlight reel on the video sharing sites come the end of this tournament.

Viola Capodonna, 17, Midfielder
She's so good, she was playing in the Di Bradini Cup at the age of thirteen. Historically, Starblaydi youth managers have selected their best Starting XI from the available players, throw the best of the teenagers in the land onto the bench, and brought some real youngsters along for the experience. This is no different for Fëanáro, who brings five thirteen year olds to Valanora for this tournament. What they don't expect, however, is to get any playing time whatsoever. Not so four years ago, however, as Capodonna made two substitute appearances. Originally noted for her ability to read the flow of game to intercept the attacks, she's developing into a midfield destroyer, covering every blade of grass to make tackle, challenge and interception.

Mercy Kaufman, 17, Forward
Goal-hanger, goal-poacher and offside magnet, Mercy Kaufman is one of those players who somehow always manages to have the ball fall to them in the box. She's always there to stick out a foot, get her boot to it before the defender, and leap on the second ball to tuck it away before anyone has realised she's there. She feasts on scraps and her lightning quick reactions are bound to see her steal a few goals from under the nose of the opposition. If she can be supplied by Cole, Sato and Beretano adequately, she could quite easily finish as top scorer in the tournament with a deep Starblaydi run into the knockouts.

The Opposition

When it comes to Starblaydia's opponents, it's a case of the old and familiar, the returning and the brand new unfamiliar, each of them posing a completely different test for Ázëwyn Fëanáro's young men and women. The group breaks down as follows:

Blaneu
Blaneu vs Starblaydia, Matchday One

Four years ago this nation didn't even exist, but now the island of Blaneu has made it's way to the Under-21 World Cup to compete in the first ever tournament. It's just like Starblaydia's story, only two hundred and sixty two years later, and who's to say what William Fitzpatrick's side will be able to produce in their first outing? Two and a half centuries ago, it was Simeone Di Bradini who scored the first ever goal for a Starblaydi side on the international stage in the third edition of this tournament, and now the Under-21 World Cup itself, forty editions later, is named after him. Could the same thing happen to the likes of John Pottinger or Rhodri Apnest? It should be a good clash of styles and experiences as one of the oldest and most-storied nations in world football comes up against one of the newest, with all of their story yet to write.

Abanhfleft
Starblaydia vs Abanhfleft, Matchday Two

When, oh when, will Starblaydia be able to avoid Abanhfleft. Whether it's the World Cup or the World Bowl or the secret magical sport of Quidditch, Starblaydia continually come up against the Fleftic side and their Blue, orange, green, white and red side. Although lately we've had their number in terms of football, this run of form should hopefully continue in the face of expected stiff competition from players like Karamoko Bakayoko and Dario Frigo - even though their squad has yet to be announced, these two names should certainly make it into an all-male or mixed squad

Semarland
Semarland vs Starblaydia, Matchday Three

Semarland are back, the wheeler-dealers of the international transfer window making it a second Atlantian Oceania nation in Group F who will certainly look to be qualifying from the group. Under normal circumstances, Semarland would be the most difficult match for Starblaydia, but with their mini hiatus over the last few years, this is a national team setup that will need to get games under their belts before they can truly shake off the ring rust. Unfortunately for Starblaydia, however, Semarland gets two games to do just that before their Matchday Three clash, which could well decide who goes through to the knockouts and who flies back to Atlantian Oceania early.

The Imperial College of Routcher's Football Association proudly presents the international debut of the Routcher National U21 Football Team! While Football has always remained popular in Routcher, it wasn't until ten years ago that serious money was sent to a national program. After the proof that such an organization can prosper in Routcher, efforts were made rather recently to bring a team of young adults to the world stage as well.

Pasarga Roster

Home Away Third
Modifier: +1

Manager: Mór Császár, age 46
Assistant: Mezei Orbán, age 45

Keepers
GK: Guglielmo Lo Duca, age 20, Stoneshore United Image
GK: Liliána Végh, age 20, Galatica (F)
GK: Borka Szekeres, age 18, CA Paulinthal (F)
Two years later and it is the same three keepers who have impressed Császár to bring them into the youth national team and will likely soon be getting looks at the senior team. Quite like two years ago, Lo Duca looks to be the best of the bunch, capitalizing on his size, skill, and the good training that he has found in Cosumar. Szekeres has pipped Végh for the number two spot, based on what people have seen in the training camp, though either will likely serve as a solid second choice should Lo Duca be given a respite.

Defenders
LB: Katinka Szöllôsy, age 20, Peynol-Lunas (F)
LB: Vjekoslav Tomić, age 21, Stilinkeep FC
CB: Renata Novaković, age 21, Baskita FC (F)
CB: Lazar Meier, age 20, Directus Image
CB: Alvisio Pisani, age 20, Club Stein-los
CB: Laborc Szöllössy, age 18, Spartangrad Image
RB: Igor Topić, age 21, Ramusok United Image
RB: Raynaldo Puga Burgos, age 19, Santos Luega
One can be cautiously optimistic this time around with the options in the backline, after two tournaments of being quite bullied around by the opponents. This is a collection of experienced talent that has been seeing starts at their domestic clubs and playing at top level competition to boot. Lazar Meier is the standout among them, with a cool, professional personality and an imposing presence that has him given the captaincy. The right side is protected well with Topić, as he has become the first choice fullback for Ramusok in Cosumar, showing a great knowledge of when to get forward and when to stay back and defend like a steel wall.

Midfielders
RW: Juliska Müller, age 17, Stein-los Turkish (F)
RW: Erik Földessy, age 19, CA Paulinthal
D/MC: Szalyk Földessy, age 18, Samaj FC Image
MC: Poldi Szigety, age 19, Tanrısal
MC: Daniek Huijberts, age 20, Galatica
A/MC: Benci Gölöncsér, age 19, Stoneshore United Image
LW: Becse Sultés, age 19, Baskita FC
LW: Jan Gersten, age 20, Bastion Image
For the first time in a national team shirt, we will see two of the three brothers Földessy playing together, with Szalyk and Erik getting starting nods in the middle of the park despite the midfield being loaded with a bevy of talent that has to have the fans believing that the Young Wanderers will have a great chance of retaining their title. Benci Gölöncsér is being heralded as the next Jörg Feierabend and has done well in his time in Cosumar to get a nod as the starting attacking midfielder, while Gersten showed his supreme talent on the wing two years ago and should be counted on to get the job done and done well.

Strikers
ST: Adrián Makai, age 20, CA Paulinthal
ST: Oriel Villagómez Acuna, age 19, Santos Luega
ST: Nataša Horvat, age 20, Olympia FC Image (F)
ST: Réka Szôllôssi, age 20, Stein-los Turkish (F)
The striking corps is a little depleted now that Alexander Jager has aged out of eligibility for the Young Wanderers, but it still has a few tricks up its sleeves. Three of the four strikers are renowned in the SuperLiga and youth leagues for possession great pace, with only Makai have a speed one might consider average, though the CAP striker is on the taller side and stronger side as well, modelling his game on the Cosumarite Ragnar Targaryen. Szôllôssi is also on the taller side but prefers to be a bit of sniper with a long range shot that is more accurate than some, but it is Horvat who gets the second starting spot after emerging as the starter in Olympia and having played as a solid rotation striker the last two years, showing flashes of brilliance here and there but does seem to lack a lethal touch once in the final third.

Lo Duca
Topić Meier Novaković Szöllôsy
E. Földessy S. Földessy Gölöncsér Gersten
Horvat Makai

Captain: Lazar Meier
Corner Taker: Jan Gersten
Set Pieces: Jan Gersten
Penalties: Adrián Makai

As you might've noticed, some of these players aren't human. Just wanted to point out they're still fairly close to being human, just in case. Please don't kill them. Injuries for large stretches of time have to be informed by telegram, or else they'll get the ignore cannon treatment. Anything else (bar anything that destroys any city of the empire or its' people, just in case anyone gets a bit too creative) is fine by me.

Postby Cassadaigua » Fri Jun 29, 2018 3:38 pm

Team Cassadaigua boarded the plane to take them to Char Sara, Valanora for their first game of the 43rd Di Bradini Cup.

“They call it The Tar Pit,” defender Brooke Sutter said to teammate Rachel Schanke, who sat beside her, “Fitting, because we played like we were in one in the first round of the Sporting World Cup.”

Rachel Schanke smiled and nodded. The granddaughter of the great Jessica Schanke day from Cassadaigua’s glory days had a lot of expectations on her. So far, the 16-year old has been given great opportunities for her young career, and while she started slow in the Sporting World Cup, she played well in the last two games, before the debacle in the round of sixteen. It was her team, she was the captain, and she did all she could. Her 88-year old grandmother, who is physically unable to fly out of the country to watch her is still her biggest fan, and has her full support. However, Rachel did not seem to have the support of that one key person, the manager, Stephanie Sweeney.

Rachel looked at Brooke, and smiled. The two of them had forged a good very friendship. “Brooke, I looked at the depth chart, and see I am not starting. I hope that is just because of my age, but I am a better player then two in front of me. Actually three.”

Brooke Sutter was a couple years older, so there was no surprise that the 18-year old was named a starter on the Di Bradini team too. There are a lot of Cassadagans who are critical of Stephanine Sweeney. She did a great job with this team in Di Bradini 41, and the senior team in World Cup 79, but disappointed with this team in the last Di Bradini Cup, before a similar disappointment in the World Cup. By finishing third in the Cup of Harmony, Sweeney seemed to have saved her job for now, but everyone is not a fan of hers. Sutter was aware of this, “Rachel, I think coach is just trying to be conservative with the lineup. It has to do with your age, for sure. To have you as the second substitute, I don’t agree with it. Hardly anyone even knows who Ashley Dahlin and Sierra Corston even are, they have no international experience, but they are older, so we know how it goes.”

Rachel smiled. “My grandmother always told me to be supportive of all my teammates. So I wish them well, but this team is just, weird. A lot of people with no international experience on this roster, including all of our goalkeepers. We are set up to fail, I don’t get this. At the same time, Meghan (Wolcott) who is also 16 and played in the Sporting World Cup, is in the starting lineup. I am happy for her, but this roster, its not what I would have done.”

Brooke grinned and asked, “Well you know that Grandma Jess wants you to be supportive of them. Meghan in the starting lineup is a big vote of confidence but she did have a good Sporting World Cup. That’s why she is ahead of three 21-year olds. Speaking of people named Jessica, what do you know about this captain of ours, Jessica Robinson?”

Rachel shrugged, “I don’t know. She hasn’t even introduced herself to me yet. Just sent me a text about a players-only meeting after we get to the hotel, and after dinner. I guess that’s when she is going to introduce herself. Isn’t she kind of inexperienced too?”

Brooke replied, “She was on the Di Bradini roster last year. Didn’t have any goals, but I think she is more of a playmaker to set up the forwards. You might not get a ton of playing time with her.”

Rachel shrugged again, “Yeah, whatever. At least they let me wear number 71.”

(The team arrives at the hotel, has dinner, and now its time for the players-only meeting called upon by captain Jessica Robinson).

A podium was set in front of the seats, and the players were told to sit down wherever they chose, as Robinson approached the microphone.

“Good evening, everyone.” She began, “I am Jessica Robinson, for those who do not know me. I have been named the team captain, and I am honored to be in this position. First, I want to set some ground rules, the first being to know that we are not here for fun and games, and are here to rebound after stinking it up in the last Di Bradini Cup. I know we weren’t that awful, but we didn’t make the playoffs, so we sucked. And then we sucked in the World Cup.”

“Heck of an encouraging opening.” Rachel whispered to Brooke, who smiled back and nodded.

“Additionally,” Robinson continued, “For those who played in the Sporting World Cup, you all sucked too. Maybe not immediately, but you choked in the first round.”

“She’s got a way with words, doesn’t she,” Brooke whispered back to Rachel, who nodded back.

“This is not acceptable for Cassadagan soccer,” Robinson went on, “We are not a team that sucks, chokes, and underachieves. We are a team that succeeds and gets the (expletive) job done. Our failure in the World Cup was foreshadowed by our failure in the Di Bradini Cup, but when we did better in this two cycles ago, we qualified for the World Cup. There is a possibility that World Cup 81 will be right here in Valanora, and if it is, I plan on going there to play, and so does our coach, Stephanie Sweeney. She deserves better, and I will see to it that she gets a better effort during this tournament.”

After the opening, and some commentary from the players, Robinson began introducing herself to members of the team, but seemed more interested in getting to know the female players. The male players, for which there are a few, did not get much more then a handshake. This was noticed by Rachel Schanke when Robinson went up to her.

“Jess, why are you not paying much attention to the men on the team?” Rachel asked.

“Ah, so you’re the little Schanke, pleasure to meet you, honored to share your grandmas first name. The teams you’re grandma played for were amazing, weren’t they?” Robinson asked.

“Yeah, definitely, I would love to be at the level they were at. Feels like such a long climb, though.” Schanke said, trying to be friendly.

“How many men were on those teams?” Robinson asked.

“None.” Schanke replied.

“What was the first cycle we first started more men to our teams?” Robinson asked/

“The last one.” Schanke answered.

“Now put two and two, together. And you’ll know why I don’t pay much attention to them.” Robinson replied before walking on. “Practice at 8:30 tomorrow morning, be in the lobby by 7:45.”

Qusmo U21 team begins Di Bradini Cup preparations

Fuzpon Qusma today announced the hiring of its under-21 national team manager & the selection of its 25-player Di Bradini Cup roster.

KF Trew assistant manager Lucex-Kynda Uzo was introduced as the new U21 team manager. The association cited Lucex-Kynda’s experience at KF Trew, a club which is known for developing young talent. A prepared statement read in part, “Lucex-Kynda Uzo has been instrumental in the success of KF Trew’s youngest squad members, with two of its players receiving caps with Qusmo’s senior national team, including Rilan-Jerat Nev, who not only is the youngest starter in Pug Qusmyra’s inaugural season & the youngest player to be capped by the national team, but is also Pug Qusmyra’s Young Player of the Year & a national team Starting XI regular.”

At KF Trew, Lucex-Kynda was the assistant responsible for youth development, including managing its youth academy team. The senior squad finished fourth in the league, good enough for a UICA Globe Cup berth, & advanced to the semifinals of Puk Zala; meanwhile, the academy team won Puk Juzuna to advance to the UICA Youth Cup. “We had great success at Trew, & I hate to leave such a fantastic place; that said, I’m taking this role because I know that I’ll have an equally great atmosphere, environment, & opportunity as the U21 manager for the national team.”

With the news of a manger revealed, the topic of the news conference turned quickly to the 25-player roster to be selected to the upcoming Di Bradini Cup in Valanora. “Of course, every age-eligible player capped for the senior side was called up to our roster. That gave us seven players: four midfielders & three forwards. Next, we called up the one age-eligible goalkeeper who was on a Pug Qusmyra Starting XI. We had to tinker with some positionings a little bit, but our first choice XI & best tactics were really starting to come together from that,” Lucex-Kynda reported. “For the defenders, though, it was a bit trickier.”

“Only one age-eligible defender was on a Pug Qusmyra Starting XI last season - & they played at left back, which wasn’t the best tactical fit for what we were going for,” Lucex-Kynda explained. “We had some tough choices between taking players that would have more talent or would fit most naturally into our tactical system, & between players who trained with Pug Qusmyra teams as reserves or players who had first-team experience in Pug Qusma.”

“The defense was tricky, & we had some tough choices elsewhere on the fringes of the squad, but other than that, I think that this squad really came together well,” Lucex-Kynda asserted. “We looked at every age-eligible Qusma player on a 25-player Pug Qusmyra roster or a first-choice XI in Pug Qusma last season, & we gave everyone due consideration. We looked at what each player would contribute to our squad, & I think we have a roster that’s both talented & balanced.”

“As for style, ultimately, this team is going to be much more attack-minded than the senior side. After all, you just have to look at the composition of our personnel: of the two members of the senior team first choice XI we have, one is an attack-minded left midfielder, & the other is a striker - who was awarded Young Player of the Year last season in Pug Qusmyra. & all seven of the players on this team which have played for the senior squad are at midfield & forward,” Lucex-Kynda noted.

“Beyond that, though, an Under-21 team is naturally going to have less pressure than a senior side, & they’re naturally going to want to play freer. & that’s the spirit I want to instill in this team, really. These players naturally play with pace, passion, & spirit. Let’s allow them to take risks & see if they can blossom, rather than shielding them from the competition,” Lucex-Kynda reasoned. “I think they’ll be up for the challenge, & I’m really excited to see how this group does.”

The U21 team looks set to play in a 3-4-3 formation, which Lucex-Kynda employed at Trew & would naturally highlight the seven senior national team players on the roster. Twelve Pug Qusmyra starters are on the 25-player squad, & there are many storylines weaved throughout this squad, from Pug Qusmyra reserves trying to prove their worth to their clubs to players mired on Pug Qusma sides hoping to secure a transfer to players like midfielders Dwada-Dalox Wek, Yamaj-Blonz Jok, & Helek-Nenzi Ono seeking regular national team action after being on the fringes.

Many of these players, further from the spotlight, will have some of the biggest impacts on how well this team performs - but the spotlight still seems likely to shine most brightly upon regular national team starters Kynda-Sevet Pec & Rilan-Jerat Nev, with 23 senior team caps to each of their names. One fan at the conference summed up the thoughts of a nation: “This team has some good players with good potential, but if it’s going to get out of the group, it needs its stars to shine.” The entire world will soon find out if it can do just that in Valanora.

Kit information from a prepared statement from Fuzpon Qusma in lieu of an actual image
"Our home kit will be in our national colours, red & gold. Emblematic of our national flag, a thick two-colour sash will run from the right shoulder down to the left hip, both front & back. The top sash colour will be gold, & the bottom sash colour will be red. Above the sash will be a red field, while below the sash will be a gold field. Our shorts will be red & our socks will be gold. On the back, we will have a large red circle outlined in gold to recall our flag, break the sash, & allow clearer kit numbers, which will be printed in gold, just like the sun on our flag. Highlights throughout the kit will be gold. Our clash kit will be white with the full, uninterrupted, two-colour sash on front & back. We will have black numbers & red highlights, complemented by the same red shorts & gold socks. Our goalkeepers' kits will be black with the sash on the front side only, with white numbers, gold highlights, black shorts, & black socks. We believe that these kits are not only striking, but will represent our country well internationally. We are proud to represent Qusmo, & we eagerly look forward to the matches ahead."

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM - MIXED

This will be the twelfth time that Abanhfleft will be participating in the Di Bradini Cup. Ever since the team finished third in Di Bradini 33, it has been a period of ups and downs for the team. First, Di Bradini 34, considered as Abanhfleft's best chance to have won some silverware, was mysteriously discontinued for unknown reasons. Then the team was knocked out in the group stages of Di Bradini 35 by Farfadillis, and then they were knocked out in the round of 16 of Di Bradini 36 by a Pasarga team that decided to show up at that exact game. And then in Di Bradini 37, they were knocked out by a very motivated Tumbra side. Di Bradini 38 was when they failed to survive Tomikosan. In Di Bradini 39, Ceni tripped up Abanhfleft in extra time, and in Di Bradini 40, Abanhfleft ended up propping up the rest of Group B after a matchday three draw against the Iron Syndicate. In Di Bradini 41, the Young Revolutionaries were simply disappointing. And in Di Bradini 42, Pasarga knocked the Young Revolutionaries out once again. Will Di Bradini 43 finally be the tournament where Abanhfleft's youngsters win it all something? Anything? There's only one way to find out...

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation: Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft
Demonym: Fleftic
Team colors: White (home), red and blue (away)
Style modifier: +3.5
Formation: 4-2-3-1 (This will be standard unless I change it through RPs)
Head coach: Owen Bevan (58 y/o, Wales)

STARTERS
GK: Guildenstern CARDEW 19 y/o, Sporting Ceneisis Image, male, vice-captain
Guildenstern Cardew is the younger brother of former Panem striker Silvia Cardew. After Panem was enveloped by a mysterious Catastrophic Termination Event (or CTE), the Cardews eventually managed to wind up on the shores of the Fhulghamous Peninsula Colony along with a large number of their fellow Panemian nationals. Guildenstern was eventually picked up by Besanza Emeralds FC of the Fhulghamousian Premier League. Guildenstern decided to emulate his Panemian idol Walnut Durant and become a goalkeeper even though his sister Silvia is a striker. Guildenstern is also very close friends with Marius Rosenkrantz the soccer player (because of course they would be friends) but it looks like Guildenstern might have something more than just friendship in his eyes and heart for Marius...

RB: Georgine BAUM 19 y/o, Pascal Mashu Image (Kita-Hinode), female
Another player with foreign roots playing for the Democratic Republic. This time, Georgine's parents are immigrants, or rather expats, from Pridnestrovia, who escaped the country after her father said a few things that were not to President Field Marshal Stepan Stepanenko's liking. Georgine is more than likely to play for Abanhfleft in the future, but stranger things have happened. Arkadia Zubarenko did end up playing for Pridnestrovia after years in Abanhfleft's youth teams. Baum has always played on the left before so seeing her on the right side this time could be a bit of a shock for her but apparently people trust Georgine to hit the ground running after being thrown off the deep end, so....

RCB: Hamad Ahmed KHALED 21 y/o, Pasargad Manitogoro Image (Oontaz), male
Hamad Ahmed Khaled is just the shortened version of his full name, which is Mohammed Mahmoud Hamad Ahmed Khaled Salman Idris Muammar el-Sennousi al-Iraqiyah. Try fitting all that onto a jersey. It certainly beats the likes of Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, though, which is why Hamad had it shorted to just Hamad Ahmed Khaled. Hamad is the son of the Emir of Tall Afar with his fifth wife, who is a Fleftic citizen, hence Hamad's eligibility for the Democratic Republic. His strengths lie in his height, aerial ability, and good command of both his area and his fellow defenders. If he develops properly as a player then he could even end up being captain material for both club and country, although having a Fleftic citizen as the Emir of Tall Afar could cause a problem or two in the Sultanate of Oontaz.

LCB: Christy SHEPLEY 20 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies Image, female
At 6 feet 2 inches, Christy is already one of the tallest under-21 Fleftic central defenders ever in the Democratic Republic and its sphere of influence. Coupled with a supernatural defensive ability, it's a wonder why she's still on the bench and not starting, until one realizes that Christy is quite the thin and willowy girl. She's a good defender and good in aerial and dead-ball situations, there's no doubt about that, but she has to bulk up and get stronger if she is to become one of Abanhfleft's best defenders. She is finally elevated to the starting eleven following Miranda Sullins' graduation to the senior team.

LB: Lauree McATEER 19 y/o, Marinos Thimpodopoulos Women Image (Fhulghamous Peninsula, playing the Fleftic Ladies' Premier League), female
Lauree's first international football experience was sitting on the bench of the Fleftic under-15 team during their debut appearance in the 9th Under-15 World Cup in Schottia. Although she's Port Thimpodopoulos born and bred, Lauree is being given a chance to show that she can represent the blue, orange, and green, and while she is a good and quick defender, it looks as if she's going to be warming the Fleftic bench once again. She could end up representing the Fhulghamous Peninsula when she reaches the senior level, but stranger things have happened, and there could be a national team coach out there who sees what s/he wants in Lauree and call her up.

RM: Trinidad KLEIST 21 y/o, Xemlice Rovers Ladies Image, female
At such a young age, Trinnie, as she likes to be called, is already developing into a no-nonsense center defensive midfielder, breaking up attacks and stopping counters. Unfortunately, that also means a lot of bookings and the occasional red card for her. Trinnie still has to learn to control herself, and surely she can keep a cool head now that she's playing on the international stage?

LM: Cecily SEGOVIA 21 y/o, Ladies of Santos FC Image (Oontaz Dert Li Ng) on loan from Riuwiee United Women Image, female
CeCe is the foil to Trinidad Kleist's hard-hitting CDM. The Oontaz-born central midfielder is the creative outlet for the midfield, setting up passes and long balls to initiate the attack. But that doesn't mean she shirks from her defensive responsibilities. Still, like Trinnie, CeCe is still a bit enthusiastic with the sliding tackles and will get her name on the referee's notebook a fair few times. Another member of the second-place under-15 team from Schottia who got an inclusion into the under-21 team.

RW: Sohaila MAGOMEDOVA 21 y/o, Exiles FK Image (Pridnestrovia), female
The daughter of a Pridnestrovian father and a Nordskanian mother who was born on Fleftic soil, Sohaila is one of Heinrich Wurzmann's latest finds from the Alternative Football Program. Her idols growing up were tricky players like Finn Jameson, Ruud Akinfenyor, and Matthew Cave, and Sohaila certainly has the feet to emulate them. Of course, being young, Sohaila's legs often get away from her and she more than occasionally trips up. But when she gets her moves right, Sohaila is unstoppable.

CAM: Kassandra PRATT 21 y/o, Riuwiee United Women Image, female
Riuwiee United are really going out of their way to make sure that their women's team is on par with the men's team. Kass has the beginnings of the playmaking attacking midfielder that the Blue Tribeswomen have sorely needed in their team, but it will still take a long, long time before she can be reasonably included into the first team. However, that long, long time appears to have arrived now as Kass is now considered ready for at least the Independents Cup.

LW: Claudia ROOS 20 y/o, Dinamo Bender Women Image (Pridnestrovia) on loan from Arsenal de Releinthi Ladies Image, female, captain
They once said that Claudia is the player on the under-15 team who is most likely to end up representing another nation once she hits the senior level. Abanhfleft is enjoying Claudia's services while she's still with the team, as she is already turning into a future star winger, what with her pace, crossing ability, and incisive runs into the box. But with Claudia's inclusion into the Independents Cup squad (albeit playing as a fullback to supposedly improve the defensive side of her game), it looks like Abanhfleft has finally secured her for a future spot in the women's national team.

ST: Kelly McGINNIS 19 y/o, Hoventon & Corlington Town Image (Mercedini), female, vice-captain
The undisputed star of the under-18 team is now part of the under-21 team as well. Kelly McGinnis could very well be the next Chelsea Stuart. Lord knows she's got the raw talent in her veins and her feet. Her only problem is in getting out of Besanza to continue her development and make sure that it's on the right track to actually making her the next Chelsea Stuart. Kelly wants to move abroad to develop herself in a world-class side, and she believes that the Sporting World Cup is her way to gaining that attention and getting that move abroad. She did get that sought-after move, but not exactly to where she expected: she's on loan to Mercedini where she hopes she can make an impact.

RESERVES (All players are members of their league team's youth squads unless otherwise noted)
GK: Bronwyn CHURCHILL 19 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies Image, female
Bronwyn is the daughter of Rosenpfelblatz City's new manager Joseph "Joe" Churchill, one of the most decorated managers in the sport within the Fleftic sphere of influence. Bronwyn came with her dad to Rosenpfelblatz and immediately settled in well with the Lady Sky Blues' academy. She is a traditional keeper who prefers to keep close to goal and catch or slap away shots from that position, although she is learning to become a more athletic keeper now that she's training with the likes of Yannie Redborne, Marfa Kirilenko, and Blaze Chrzanowska. It should be noted that Joe Churchill would have liked it more if his daughter had not wanted to be a goalkeeper, but at least he as a father won't worry about where she's been before, during, and after training because they're always in close proximity to each other.

GK: Roy RINEY 18 y/o, New Llama Capitals Image (Super-Llamaland), male
Now this is probably a sight that you didn't expect to see; a 17-year-old among a bunch of mostly twenty-years-plus players with the odd teenager here and there. Roy is the youngest member of Ranulph Bustamante's experimental Independents Cup squad but not by a big margin as the next-youngest player to him is fellow reserve goalkeeper Guildenstern Cardew. Usually, people would be questioning the inclusion of such a young player in a representative football team but once Ranulph Bustamante took over managing Abanhfleft and unearthed such gems as Robin Riedewald and Tanaka Okamoto, no one questions his decisions anymore. Besides, Riney must have done something right for Ranulph to even consider calling him up, even if it is just for the Independents Cup. Not that Ranulph thinks that the Independents Cup is a nothing trophy; it's still a trophy after all for those nations who aren't affiliated with the Big Three regions of Esportiva, Rushmore, and Atlantian Oceania.

DF: Alma WALKER 21 y/o, Rushmori Drawks Image (The Isles of Avon), female
Alma Walker is a decent right back who looks destined to be an actual right back instead of the myriad wingbacks who seem to be cropping up like weeds all over Abanhfleft's academies. Alma is actually ambidextrous with her feet and can play in both fullback positions fairly well and effectively (kind of like Tonya Heaton) but she prefers to work on the right side of the pitch. Doesn't mean that she can't do a good job on the left, though.

DF: Brooke AUGUSTYN 20 y/o, Eielo Sunlight Women Image, female
Brooke is a decent enough defender, which is just about what would be expected for someone personally approached by Godric Wexler himself. Brooke could be a future Amanda Warren (meaning that she could become one of the best fullbacks in the country), or she could be a future Deborah McManaman (who had the potential to become one of the best fullbacks in the country but couldn't really achieve it due to injuries and eventual lack of game time). It's still up in the air. The fact that Arsenal released Brooke, thus allowing her to go to Eielo as a free agent, seems to suggest that she's on her way to becoming a McManaman but the fact that she's also been called back to the Di Bradini squad also seems to suggest that she could still break out and become a star, a star that Arsenal and Godric Wexler will regret letting go so easily.

DF: Wilton KABA 17 y/o, Sfaxspor Image (Fhulghamous Peninsula), male
Ball-winner and ball-breaker, or so his fellow academy mates in Sfaxspor say. He has an incredible leap for someone who's 5 foot 8, and balls find themselves naturally gravitating to his forehead.

MF: Mauro MAGNANELLI 20 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz North End Image on loan from Rosenpfelblatz City Image, male
Mauro Magnanelli is good enough for tackling people to the ground, taking free kicks and little else. It doesn't mean that he can't improve his skills, abilities, and football knowledge. There's still time for Mauro to become more than just another one-dimensional player. After a good performance in the 3rd Sporting World Cup, Mauro will join the under-21 squad as a central defensive midfielder to replace the now-ineligible Lucjo Kleinmann.

MF: SIBUSIZWE Kiggwancha 17 y/o, Athletic Motonou Image, female
SIbusizwe's greatest strength lies in the fact that she can win the ball in midfield more times than not. Of course, most of this is against girls and boys on or nearly the same age as she is, but when she turned out for Athletic Motonou's senior side in the last few matchdays of the Ladies' Third Division season (with the title already wrapped up for Motonou) Sibusizwe looked capable of doing much the same thing against players who were much older and much more experienced than her. Sibusizwe won't have to do that against older and experienced players from other national teams just yet, but she will have to do it against her fellow under-18s and now under-21s from other countries starting from this tournament.

MF: Dario FRIGO 17 y/o, Bohuda United Image, male
One thing that can be said of Dario Frigo is that he appears to have been born with glue on his feet as there has never been a reported instance in which this young half-Oontaznik player playing for Bohuda United ever lost the ball when it was at his feet. Not even the older and more experienced players plying their trade in Liga Ikalawa could take the ball from Dario when he turned out for the senior side for a game or two without sliding in for the tackle and drawing a card in the process, both yellow and red. And it's not just his sticky feet that is Dario's greatest asset in playing football. He also has an eye for taking the ball over the midfield and straight into the attacking third, jumpstarting attacks in the process. The Young Revolutionaries will look to benefit from this greatly.

MF: Sheila BECK 20 y/o, Keephall Valkyries Image, female
Technically, Sheila's a central midfielder, but because of her tendency to wander the entirety of the pitch, she could theoretically play in every midfield position and even down the flanks. Recently, Keephall has began playing her in the central attacking midfielder position, and while she has to remember that she doesn't have to come and defend as much as she used to, she has a knack for well-timed tackles and can never seem to be fouled. Sheila can set up attacks as well through passing play, but her best skill is winning the ball and then making that key through-ball.

FW: Amelie RUSEV 19 y/o, Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies Image, female
Amelie Rusev is the best player on current Fleftic under-18 team after Gareth Williamson. At just 18 years old, she's already looking like the complete winger package. Not only is she both quick and light on her feet and strong in the air and during challenges, she is ambidextrous, able to use both feet to send in long balls and crosses into the box when she wants. With that added crossing ability, Amelie is already on her way to the first team of Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies at such a tender age. Kasper Molak will surely look to make Amelie the successor to Raisa Korovina as the next Miss Ludogorets.

FW: Arkady "Arlie" ROZIER 20 y/o, Admiral Porcusces Image, male
Another Pridnestrovian player born in Abanhfleft who looks like he could be poached by the Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States, although that possibility looks more and more remote now that Ranulph Bustamante has apparently included Arlie in his plans if his inclusion into the Independents Cup squad is any indication. Arlie has serviceable hold-up play but questionable finishing and ball distribution skills. He's also a bit selfish, preferring to shoot the ball himself even if there is a teammate in a better scoring position. But he's just 18 years old. Surely he can learn how to improve himself and his technique, right? Right? Refused a new contract with The Redvale's Maris Rovers and is now back in Abanhfleft playing for Admiral Porcusces.

FW: Karamoko BAKAYOKO 16 y/o, Uranium City Radiation Image, male
Supposedly the best striker to ever come out of any Fleftic academy since Kevin Kelvin and Chelsea Stuart. How else can you explain the presence of the 14-year-old in previous Sporting World Cup and Di Bradini Cup squads? But what exactly makes him a good forward? Is it his silky smooth runs, his mad tekkers, or his unbelievable range from almost anywhere in the attacking half of the pitch? Or maybe all of it?

U21's return to DBC, familiar setting
by Mindy Cartwright, National Soccer Writer

The Commonwealth Under-21 National Team have plenty of advantages as they head into the DiBradini Cup 43, the 64th world championship for U-21s. The most important is not having to overcome unknown factors; the team are staying in the same hotel as their last trip, training at the same facility--the Vanorian club AS Sharala who were extremely welcoming and helpful last time--and will be used to the train rides to matches. Additionally, at least one of the group matches will be the Angelotic Temple in Longview, where BP were knocked by Banija in the quarterfinals. The other group match site is the capital, Raynor City, at the Turmondale Grounds.

Another thing that makes this edition of the tournament less stressful in the buildup to the first match is the makeup of the roster; Jennifer Prescott is in charge for DBC 43 and she has Will Barnard as her assistant, who was a coach on the previous staff, and they have thirteen players returning to the 23 player squad.

On paper the strength of the side appears to lie in attack. DeAngelo Simmons, who played in both this tournament and the SWC5 will lead the forwards, along with Tim Blair who started 3 matches. Scott Miller, Antonio Sotolongo and Evan Canderas return in midfield, and are joined by 2 players from the U18's who were key to their success, Nicki Stone and Rey Guitierrez. The X-factor appears to be Annabeth Westmoreland, the 21 year old from Middletown City Ladies who some thought should've been given a spot on the Baptism of Fire team, who will showcase her talent on the left side of midfield.

Grant Coffey returns to patrol between the goal posts and Dereck Brightwell will anchor the defense, which will see Sam Harrison, co-captain of the SWC winning team and Deron Hutchens, another returner.

The opening match will be a difficult test as Baker Park will play Filindostan, who will be looking to make sure they don't end up unlucky once again; they beat Banija on the final matchday in DBC 42 to put them into a three-way tie, but missed making the knockouts on goal difference, as Schottia won their final match by 2 goals to squeak past the Filindis.

The other countries in Group G are Razenthuria, where the national lacrosse team just played in the World Lacrosse Championship recently and Maryloupe, who were also drawn into the same group as BP at the SWC, the Bees coming out winners 1-0 to advance to the knockouts.

The Blaneu Broadsheet
Thriller and Filler: A Look At Blaneu's Potential Future Stars

The Di Bradini Cup is the first look we'll get at Blaneu's crop of young players playing together, given that they all play at best in Blaneu's Semi-Professional league their quality will be hard to gauge until kick-off against Starblaydia, but some stand out regardless.

The first player worth a mention is Tudur Aled, who plays his football for East Cape FC, one of the weaker clubs in the league. His team's relative weakness have allowed him to demonstrate his quality as a shot-stopper, blessed with quick reflexes and agility. However, he has poor positional intelligence and struggles with passing back out. Whilst he's covered somewhat due to Elliot Sketty having decent distribution skills, he may struggle in one on ones, often not spotting the danger quick enough and finding himself on the back foot. He seems a strong prospect for the future, hopefully the new youth set up will allow him to develop some of the skills he lacks.

Meanwhile, at the back, James Jones appears to be one of the best players in the squad, but his game seems to almost at its peak. Instead, I would suggest that Elliot Sketty appears to be the brightest prospect, he has fantastic ball control and is masterful at organizing the defense for set pieces, as well as proving dangerous in the oppositions penalty box. If he can resolve his issue of over-committing on challenges to give away free-kicks he'll make a welcome addition to the ageing, ailing, first team back three.

Looking further forward and there are worries that Blaneu have talent developing in all the wrong areas. Whilst Dyfed Elron will probably graduate to the first team as a Wing-Back, the others talented players in midfield and upfront seem concentrated in areas where the first team is already strong. Caradog Gwent looks incredibly sharp in defensive-mid at only 18, however his strengths match those of Aaron Starkey, who is already the XIs strongest player. Meanwhile, upfront John Pottinger starts, and whilst he narrowly merits his place in this first eleven, he doesn't look likely to improve much, and lacks the athleticism required for international football. This area is a major worry for the first side as well, with the position occupied by John Hartson, a 43 year old former Welsh international who retired to playing in the Sunday league in Blaneu. In contrast, Gethin Powell, at just 17 and on the bench, looks like the sides only prospect in this position, but is still probably too young to make his mark yet.

Furthermore, talent outside of the first eleven is fairly sparse, those in the squad and on the bench (such as Jessie Bowen, Hywel Stoker and Ryan Delaney) look very unlikely to break through into the national teams squad. It's a case that those older than them will remain better than them until the next generation (currently those who are about 12-15 years old) will exceed them in talent as they benefit from the revamped youth set up. It seems fair to christen them somewhat of a lost generation.

Overall, the Blaneuan's youth side has a handful of key prospect for the future worth watching, however this squad has an unusually high amount of filler given the weakness of the current National First Eleven and leaves most in Blaneu thinking we could well be a decade away from having a squad that can challenge the major sides.

Blaneu Sell-Out Ticket Allocation

In a somewhat unexpected development, Blaneu look likely to sell out their ticket allocation for the group stage of the Di Bradini Cup, with 5,000 fans expected to travel (vast for a country of just eighty-thousand). The reasons for enthusiasm are likely threefold, with this youth side containing what will likely be the bulk of the XI by the end of this coming world cup cycle, that it is Blaneu's first major engagement with the world and that the first match is against the legendary Starblaydia.

There certainly is a feeling in Blaneu that these under 21s provide a far higher chance of entertaining football than do the XI, who will soon be playing in the Independents Cup. The XI are older, slower, more defensive and frankly more hopeless; fans are fair to assume that the youth side will be more likely to put in a memorable display.

With Blaneu now finally integrating with the new world it finds itself in, many are obviously exciting to see the world. Valanora is proving a draw in itself, being inhabited by Elves, as well as having a fairly legendary footballing reputation. One can certainly assume that this is more exciting than a trip on the ferry over to Cardiff, pre-'The Event'. The fact that the opening fixture is up against Starblaydia, with all their associated prestige, has certainly helped up the enthusiasm surrounding this tournament in Blaneu.

However, whilst Starblaydia have done Blaneu some favors in stirring up some football fever, they are unlikely to provide any on the pitch. They look likely to set up with a 4-4-2 formation, pressing high and turning the screws on the Blaneuan defense. Their high defensive line means the best tactic is to try and get forwards running in behind, something that Pottinger really doesn't offer, leaving the pressure on the Wingers, Apnest and Evans, to spearhead the counter-attack. Caradog Gwent's performance may prove key, his 'quarterback' style passes could well be the difference.
