Following yet another outstanding victory for the Ferret team this year with the Cenian Masters over and done with, the team spent the night partying at one of the city’s many night venues like they had to celebrate other wins after the competitions were over. Euan was sure to not let this get him down in the morning when it came time to ask for an extension to the time they were allowed to stay in the nation of Ceni to cover the break between this event and the next one, the Cenian Open. The government officials were pretty quick to get back to him on that approving the request to stay and allowing the team a second real vacation since Costa del Ouro and all the fun they had there island hopping. This time they would have to plan something fun to do outside the city of Cenial and come back around to enjoy the rest of it during the following event, with the island being small and heavily urbanized as they had come to learn it did not leave them a lot in the way of seeing the wild nature side of the place that was all ‘Green’. But it gave them plenty of other opportunities to see all the blends of culture, and just like with what they did last vacation they knew they were going to travel. So the quick thought up plan was to backpack explore all the way around the nation through all the major hub cities and whatever wild nature there was before looping back around to where they started from. Planning to spend a lot of extra currency to stay comfortable the whole way as well, starting off with buying the supplies they would need for the trip like food and bags.

After the first day the adventure saw them heading south to Dover to go see what the grand white cliffs looked like in the flesh, a journey that would take them through the city of Whitehaven while skirting New Oxford. While they thought of visiting the Oxford city as well before going full south they had a feeling they would still be in the sporting world to see it during the New Oxford Masters that were planned to be coming up in this nation as well, and they all hoped that they were still doing as well as they were now then down the line. While on the way down south they made sure to stop into every little ‘something’ to see all the different people that made up this great land. Some were really exotic and some were rather recognizable with all their experience they had under their belts traveling now. Though seeing the sights and trying the food never got old, and being right along the beachfront through most the start of the traveling meant that they always had something they knew was fun for them to go enjoy. Though once they got to their first goal mark they were blown away by the mountains that made up the southern coast around Dover, and by the looks of it, it was a pretty popular tourist spot as well and protected by the native hosts. From there they would travel from Dover through New Castle to Southpoint, spending the night at any local establishments that they needed to along the way while keeping their food and water supplies up and go to go.

Even though each member on the team had seen countless other people around before, this trip alone through highly urbanized areas seemed to managed to top all those past experiences together. While other nations boasted having a large diverse population they also had large areas of land to spread out all that wonder, whereas here it seemed to be all densely put together and showing it off proudly to all that went to look at it. Once at Southpoint they would rest up a bit for the longest leg of the traveling, from here all the way to Las Moras, with the names changing to seemingly reflect a whole different group of people, though it was only a relatively short distance away. Something that their homeland would never really dream of having on such a vastly different scale. This time going up the west coast saw the team skirt around New Oxford again as well as the City Centre, a name that finally started to click given how interconnected everything was that they saw and experienced. Most the week had already flown by by the time they got to see the north coast with all their stopping and going to see different tourist spots and different diverse places that made up the cities of this land. They almost had to cut the whole trip around the island short to make it back to Cenial in time for the Open but they were lucky enough to make it just in time to enjoy the accomplishment of walking around Ceni, though that probably was not that grand of an achievement to do.

And while that whole experience was not strictly experiencing Ceni only, it sure helped paint the whole picture to everything that made up the nation and what they were outside the museums and the libraries, and at the end of it all it was a really fun experience. Now all that was left to do was see how they were doing ranking wise and get on with the Cenian Open. Starting off Euan got them rooms at the same place that they had stayed at the three other times they had visited this city for the events and told the team where they were at competition wise. He was more than excited to let Hermanni and Birger know that they had managed to swip number one place from the Britons. While that would be a hard spot to now hold onto no one on the team could be more happy for the breakout duo able to claw their way up to the top in just half a year. Being able to hold the number one spot for just one event was what their pipe dreams lead to, and they were actually able to pull it off, it was the most surreal unreal experience they had ever faced. Though that was not the only great news as Dagmar was able to get even higher than where she left off last time, getting to the third ranking out of everyone, though Euan looked at the math again.

“Think they forget to put in the fact you just won last week, should be barely getting into the second top spot.” Euan and Alwyn laughed while Dagmar just looked at them like he was joking, “Really?”

“Seems like something is trying to hold you down.” Alwyn chuckled some more, “They’ll probably fix it before the start of the competition and silently prove Euan wrong about the rank thing again.”

“Hey that happened only once… Besides I doubt it would really make a difference anyways. You already got this far without needing everything recording on paper.”

And with that they got to unpacking their stuff again in new rooms of the old hotel they had stayed at, kind of grateful in the end that they did not have to play in the qualifiers anymore it seemed with the team enjoying incredibly high rankings over all. Finishing up their last vacation day getting a good night’s rest looking forward to tomorrow’s qualifying starters for everyone else.
Currently traveling across the United States. Still up for any conversations though.

THE RISE AND FALL OF RICARDO TOLI

Tournament: Cenial Open 6

Ricardo Toli: He used to be Britonisea's #1 after he switched aligances from Estogium to Britonisea. He is finally returning to tennis, though he will have start from the beginning...

The former Britonish #1 is coming back to competitive tennis, and he is ready to retake his crown as the best tennis player in Britonisea. Ricardo Toli has a fight ahead of him, though. He has to get through the qualifiers.

For people who are fairly new to the game, or even those who have been around for quite some time, the name Ricardo Toli might not stand out to you, and that isvery understandable. For the Britonish, whose tennis dreams rely on the Leo Garry, who comes in to this competition ranked at his highest position to date, the name Ricardo Toli is engrained in their minds as he used to get just as much publicity as Leo Garry does nowadays. The fact that he is now officially is returning to the game - and has a position on the Olympic Team - has surely made people feel the nostalgia of those days when Britonisea has two players in the top ten; a faint memory that may once become reality again with the sudden rises of the likes of Derek Dubrovnik and Kyle Anderson. In order to understand his success, you have to go quite far back in time - before the NSTT was even made, back to the time when ATP was at it's peak and Ricardo Toli was up against a very competitive field.

After the sudden collapse of Britannual's Month Championships, where Kannap pulled out from hosting their competition, it was up to the second Cenian Open to provide the platform for Ricardo Toli that he truly deserved. Along with the birth of the ATP, came the birth of what would be an amazing player. Similarly to the Lzher-Jeckland Invitational, Ricardo Toli managed to reach the quarter final before being beaten there. Though, despite not being a part of the top four yet, he was making small victories, slowly moving up the rankings and become more skilled at tennis. Significant progress was observed by sponsors from Britonisea, and companies soon flocked his way hoping that they would be able to sponsor - what looked like - the next Britonish star. The fact that he had previously played for Estogium (as Bryonie Islands) did stop some Britons supporting him at first, prefering Lance Mance, who was doing just as well as Ricardo Toli. While he had Lance Mance on his back, fighting for fame and glory, he said in a press interview that he "is not threatened by the pressence of others. I play my own game - and that's it." His positive attitude surely got him to places no-one, at the start of his career, could have though he would've went.

Electrum has been a nation in which Britonish players always seem to do well, and this started during the Electrum International I. Elizabeth Quehall, way before Leo Garry took over from Lance Mance had reached the final of the competition, but ended up losing. Over on the singles side, Ricardo Toli had finally reached his first major semi final against Ardil Navsal, from Ceni, who is still around but less noisy as he once was. While Ricardo Toli managed to win the third set, Ardil's play was much better than his at the time, and Ardil went on to go the final of the Electrum International I and won in a five-set thriller between him and Al Montis De Surmar, a player which had a particular following from Britonisea. Coming fourth place overall, being beaten by a Gloriax player in the 3PPO, Ricardo Toli came to the Electrum Slam, ready to do well and more optimistic than ever before. In that competition, Ricardo Toli was ranked 10th, which was the highest of any Britonish player. It would be here where Ricardo Toli became the longstanding Britonish #1. Leo Garry also came on the scene at this point, but eyes weren't focused on him. In what would be his biggest match ever, Ricardo Toli managed to reach the Semi Finals of a Grand Slam, which was a first for both him and Britonisea. The other players that were in the Semi Final were also ranked in the top 5, whereas Ricardo wasn't. Up against Elaine Foyner of Ceni, the odds were stacked against him, but this didn't stop the man from trying his hardest to get a reaction of "watch out" from the audience. Ricardo Toli took Elaine Foyner right to her limit, with a long and tiring five setter. While he lost in the end, in the next competition, he was ranked #4 - the highest ever for a Briton in the ATP at the time...

At the time, Britonisea was due to host their next competition, the Britonish Open II. Ricardo Toli had high hopes for the competition, thinking that he could finally get a victory, with the home crowd on his side. The competition as Barlinedon was cancelled, however, and instead was played in Ceni, at the Cenial Masters. In what seemed like deja vu, the Semi Finals were exactly the same as the Grand Slam, truly showing what the top 4 were at the time. Ricardo, yet again, lost to Elaine Foyner, but this time, she was not having any of it in a quick 6-1 6-0 defeat. Ricardo Toli played the rest of the year with the same consistency to how he started off the year, and in 2014, Britonisea grabbed the rights to host the first ever ATP World Tour Final, which saw Ricardo Toli go in as the fourth favourite to win. He came 3rd in his group, though, meaning that he didn't qualify to the main draw. Ricardo kept on going...

Ricardo Toli slowly started to slip down the rankings by the start of 2015, being ranked 6th going in to the Antilla Masters of that year. Ricardo Toli also only managed to get to the Round of 16, which was a disappointment for the male, who was hoping to try and get his first singles win. This wasn't the case for now. In the Britonish Open II in 2015, which took place in April, an odd schedule meant that all the players were put in qualifying, and Ricardo some home ended up in a qualifying round with all other Britons, including Lance Mance - who was ranked 22 - and Leo Garry. In what must have been crushing for the player, Ricardo Toli didn't managed to qualify, with the two aforementioned men beating him to the position. After the tournament, Ricardo Toli reported a slight injury in his back, but he insisted that "it was nothing to worry about". In September of that same year, Ricardo Toli entered the TACAO Slam ranked 16, a huge change from the end of last year, where he was in the top 4. Leo Garry was ranked 32 to Ricardo Toli's 16, but Ricardo came tumbling down at the first hurdle, losing to an unranked player in what was a shock for Britonisea.

Since that disapppointing performance, Ricardo Toli has been playing tennis at certain tournamnets and not others - not enough to judge his overall health. He also plays with Lance Mance in doubles at a few tournaments too. Though this time, it looks like he is back with a vengeance, and that's all you need to succeed in this highly competitive field.

Apologies, but I'm going to have to push back the first round another day because it's 1am here and I'm about to die of being tired... the second round will also be consolidated into one day as well. Again, really sorry about the trashy logistics for this...

After a great night’s rest without dealing with all the traveling around everybody was more than ready to have a nice relaxing day watching the qualifying round of the competition before the main event got underway. Though unfortunately that plan ended up being pushed back, already being up and good to go for the day Euan was informed that the event organizers were going through some technical difficulties and the start of everything was going to be pushed back for they did not know how long, but soon was the goal. Without the main time wasting part of their day to have to go through the team was really at a loss for what to do, as it would have been tomorrow that they would have gotten into the groove of things and now it was all messed up. Though the courts were still open to the public without the event going on, so the best backup plan would be just to practice for the time being and figure things out from there. So to the courts they went to have some fun and prepare for the main event for the time being, and try to think of where else they would want to go.

“So is Llinos going to come back out of nowhere and take the grand slam win for a second time or is Dagmar there going to become number one for the singles side?” Alwyn asked Ceallachán while they played against each other.

“The way we have been going, who knows. Maybe we end up all losing this time again and third time will not be the charm here. Maybe you get your chance to finally win an event and it happens during this big time thing. We will see when it happens right?”

“Yeah, least Birger and Hermanni get to have their names remembered for touching world rank number one on the doubles side for a while, hopefully.” Alwyn chuckled.

Eventually after the sun crossed it’s way across the sky and a lot of time had passed by there was nothing more they were getting out of practice and the team had to decide what they wanted to do for the rest of the daylight they had. In maintaining something of a tradition the first idea was to go back to the beach they had visited during the Cenian Masters and enough the water and sandy beaches. Which ended up being the idea that they went for, going back to playing in the sand and swimming in the cooler salt waters. Hoping that tomorrow they would be able to go into the event time routine and whatever problems the organizers had were fixed, taking in their leisurely fill in the meantime. Eventually having to go back to the hotel they were staying at and finishing up the day that they really did not get anything done with. And when the sun rose the everyone was once again ready to retry and start this competition off but, once again Euan was informed that today was not going to be the day either.

“Well this is just weird, think it is going to be an omen for how poorly things are going to go throughout this event?” Birger nugged Hermanni.

“Oh I hope not, everything was just going so grand. Should not have to end now.”

“Yeah pretty sure things will be just fine once they get started, though for now what do you all want to do today? Another day of practice or anywhere you want to go in mind.” Euan added in.

Everyone thought of what they wanted to do, it was still early in the morning so they had plenty of time to waste now that once again they did not get to watch the qualifiers happen. Dagmar was the one to bring up that they should revisit the Hawkens Botanical Gardens, the memory of visiting that place before was mostly long gone, though the wonder of that place had still remained with all of them. So that is what they did, going bright and early when hopefully things were at their best time to been seen and not too crowded to make things not so enjoyable. Splitting up into smaller groups to go see everything the gardens had planning on meeting back up in the native Cenian exhibits part of the park. Each of them ended up going back around to see all the wonderful different plants, trees, and everything from around the region remembering all the wonderment they had gotten last time there were there. Reading all the little signs and fun facts that they could while trying to recall what they had remembered the first time around. Eventually everyone had ended up back up together in the garden exhibits from Ceni to relax out in the grass and take in the sun, there was still plenty of day left to go through so they still got to be lazy and do something else for their leisure time while waiting for whatever troubles the event organizers were going through to be fixed.

Given that they had just gotten through seeing a wide range of species from the plant side of the living world the next idea was to round things out and see a wide range of species from the animal side of the living world and see the Lake Cenial Zoo. Taking some time to walk all the way over to that park and take in the sights in between the two places, once again going through the University of Cenial and seeing the lake itself before going to the zoo. Of course that still made for an awkward existential questioning situation seeing all the different animals, going through the place still seeing all the different creatures from around the world. Back where they were from neither this nor the botanical gardens place did not exist as a way of cataloguing different species for everyone to see. Though now that they got to travel and see a wide range of different places and people, this kind of thing was just a really great added bonus to get to know the greater existence of everything around them. And it was a great way to finish up wasting the day away.

“So have they told you what the plan is once the competition starts up now Euan, going to push things back or they going to shove multiple spread out days together?” Ástríður asked as they were walking back to where they were staying.

“Well right now they have not said, more focused on fixing whatever issue they are dealing with. Think they will probably try to shove multiple days together myself, can not risk pushing this event closer into the next one like how the Astyrian Series went.”

“Hmm, seems like that might make things go more poorly for us this time around.” Alwyn said.

“Maybe, or they might keep going unbelievably great as well. You all have been given the odds starting off, pretty sure you will keep doing outstanding.”

Once on the third day the team was up and ready to go, getting through dressing up and eating breakfast just like they had before still making sure to be ready once the competition started. And today Euan was happy to let everyone know that yes the organizers have fixed their issue hopefully and that the qualifiers would be happening today, and no one had to play just yet. Though tomorrow was looking to be a crowded day with multiple days being pushed together and it would look like they would not get to enjoy any free time for that day. But given they just had two full free days doing nothing during the event time frame none of them could really complain, and they were happy that the event was finally getting underway whether it go good or bad for them with it all being pushed together at the start. With that they off to watch as many of the qualifying matches as they could and then Euan would let them know who they would be playing against tomorrow on the first official round of matches. He was also happy to let Dagmar know that they had added her last win into her ranking pushing her up to number two, though for here it seemed like she would have to play as number three. Not that it would make a big difference, ranks never seemed to with the Ferret team and how they did. But it was a nice thing to have as an acknowledgement of how they were doing overall this year alone. After the qualifiers were all over with the only thing left to do for the day was put in another period of time practicing for the first round that would either see them do great or knock them all down.
Currently traveling across the United States. Still up for any conversations though.

Roman tennis summary from the Cenian Open
By Maurentius Chalcocondyles
18 June 7526 AM/2018 AD

Image

Maurentius' sum-up of all the performances by Roman tennis players in the qualifying round of the 6th Cenian Open.

Singles
Ainhoa Eneko
vs. Olsbario Torchetna (Crystalline Caverns) 1-6, 6-4, 7-6
Good performance by the woman from the Basque Country. Tepid performance in the first set but grew into the match as it went on and worked very hard to grind out victory in the second set.

Grigoris Economides
vs. Patricia Turing (Ethane) 4-6, 4-6
Lacklustre effort from Economides and never looked like winning a set. Straight-sets defeat and to a woman nonetheless, he leaves Ceni with his reputation in tatters.

Kado Eveno
vs. Danial McHamrey (Llalta) 6-3, 6-4
Llalta's lone entry put up a good fight but it was not enough to beat the big-serving young Breton.

Doubles

Minerva Kosta/Zandra Ragli
vs. Lara Navarro/Beatriz Puig (Aqual) 1-6, 3-6
Poor first set from the the pair who seemed to be operation on a different wavelength. Improved slightly but never looked like getting back into it and had their serve broken far too easily.

Sophia Milaris/Thea Psaki
Alek Zorcester/Paula Primsley (Crystalline Caverns) 1-6, 5-7

George Ehrmann/Franz Bernasconi
vs. Giovanni Cadenzo/Charlotte Prize (Qasden) 6-4, 6-2
Strong showing from the Swiss-born Roman #1 and his Germanic partner. At Ehrmann saved two set points on serve before calmly hammering an ace out wide to clinch it, fantastic.

Ainhoa Eneko/Vanessa Traka
vs. Daniels Waters/Sarah Mickson (Ethane) 6-0, 0-6, 7-5
Eneko moved from one victory to another to dump out the mixed pair from Ethane. Dominant first set then absent second before a tight final set to seal victory.

Isaiah Vitti/Marcus Pertinax
vs. Miguel Garcia/Irina Maia (Aqual) 3-6, 3-6
Comfortably seen off by the mixed pair from Aqual. A lifeless performance.

Martin Symsom/Rodrigo Ortega
vs. Jorge Gil/Paula Suárez (Aqual) 6-4, 7-5
Hard-fought win but they had the quality when it mattered to see off the challenge from the Aqualian pair.

Romans progressing to the First Round/last 128: 5/9

Postby Ferret Civilization » Tue Jun 19, 2018 1:03 am

With their relaxation time coming to a close all that was left to do was to rest up for the big first day that was a few delayed days in the making. When morning came the team was up bright and early getting ready for the competition and excitedly talking about their chances of winning or when they were going to lose over breakfast. Eventually heading out as soon as they had to go through a long, grueling, and hopefully rewarding day. Though there was never anything wrong with getting slammed either, as they had already earned all that they wanted to before even starting this event. And looking at all that there were in the competition there was a wide arrange of individuals from all over, giving the team and hopefully everyone else involved a variety of opponents this time instead of having teams largely face each other with how the ranks aligned them. And for now at the start the Ferret team was luckily enough to be in that position to get to experience a little bit from a lot of other team’s players.

Llinos was the first up for the team lineup wise for the day, ‘Looking to win another grand slam’ as Alwyn joked, going up against a Qad Halaeo to set the stage for how the team would possibly be doing overall today. Either it would look good or it would look bad, and starting off in the first set things were looking to go terrible. With Llinos losing games very quickly getting into the start of things on the hard court without being able to recover much in between the games. Though going into the second set the Ferret was able to turn things around there for herself and dominate the court to take most the set for herself. Giving more hope to how the day would be overall, with it seemingly being another typical mixed possible outcome. Instead of swinging back into the Qads favor in the third set Llinos keep things in her favor, continuing to dominate the court for herself, with how this competition was set up she was looking to not have to do five sets but take the last four sets needed to win. Putting in all the effort to have it pay off for her, it was time to go all out for the fourth set to win the match, and go all out she did. In the end Halaeo was unable to get his foot in the door not getting a single game for himself in the final leg of the match. Seeing Llinos being the one to move onto the next round with hopefully a lot of other teammates.

Hermanni during this time found himself doing a whole lot better at the start against Mattijana Sabina, with his first set going in the total opposite way of Llinos’ match. Starting off strong on the hard top to quickly take the begining set for himself. Going into the second set however things would not be so nearly one sided, with Hermanni having to work hard to keep in the lead over his opponent. Eventually he was able to slide ahead with the two points needed to win the set putting himself into a good position, with Sabina having to be the one to work hard for possibly three sets now for a chance to win whereas Hermanni only needed one. And just like Llinos not looking to drag things out to possibly have his luck turn against him he went all out in the third set, just like his opponent did. Seeing a mixed set of games and a rising score that needed to be cut down sometimes with how back and forth they were going here. After some time it got put into a tiebreaker that the Ferret was able to swoop in and take for himself, ending the match there as a win for him and continuing what was a great looking day for the team.

Alwyn on another court was going up against Electrumite Sara, with him looking to finally get an event win for himself he made sure to go all in on not losing in the first round of things at the very least. A goal that was looking to be tough to see through right from the first set, with his opponent nearly several times overcoming the lead that he had at the start of the match. Going into the second set however would see Sara go on to take the lead for themselves after a hard back and forth the whole time saw the favor slipping out of the Ferret’s favor. Though looking to have it swing back into his the third set was longer and more tiresome than the one Hermanni had to go through. With Alwyn not wanting to go into a fifth set trying to win the match, eventually this too had to go into a tiebreaker which the Ferret was able to win. Putting things back into his favor Alwyn did not want to see it swing back to his opponent’s side, pushing his tired self into overdrive to keep himself getting across the court when he had to. Paying off with things going his way more in the fourth and what would be final set to also come out with the win.

After a little break of downtime watching other matches Ceallachán was up against Aqual player Lara, a national team that had shown much promise starting off with some of their players. Ceallachán would go onto have the best start of the day taking the first set all over himself and surprisingly not losing a single game, though going into the second set it seemed like Lara was just seeing how the Ferret played and letting him get into a false comfort. Which ended up working very well for them as they were able to slide in and almost take the all the first games there for themselves before the Ferret was able to cover and rebound back hard, though the damage was done. While Ceallachán was able to slide back and take the tiebreaker for himself the stage was now set to make for a long fight that could have had the real possibility to see him lose. It almost rung true going into the third set, which after a long series of games that would not end in a tie breaking game this time saw the Aqual player able to get the two game lead they needed to win. And going into the fourth set they were able to keep the Ferret whittled down to take the lead this time even quicker along with winning the set even faster, bringing things to a fifth set. While Ceallachán was always the one on the team to have the rather bad luck he did not want to end up going down like this, Rebounding yet again in the final set to determine it all to take the lead back for himself, and hold onto it with all he had to get through with the well earned win, not that Alwyn would give him much credit for it.

With that the team was half way through and they were having a perfect day so far with no losses, after another long break which saw the team now switch places with who were on the court and who were off Ástríður was the one to go up first. Going up against another Electrumite Pelissa, being the one on the team to have done on these courts last time around to hold a rank the whole time the team was off the court she wanted to continue to show that she could do well enough to get into the top eight with Dagmar again. With the moral boost from how the team was doing so far she gave it her all just like her teammates would to take the first set for herself. The second set would end up being the hump set for the Ferret, having to work hard to stay in the lead, which paid off with seeing her win another set going into the third. It would be there that would seemingly see her opponent break, giving Ástríður an easier time to quickly take the last set she needed to win the match and with that it was over, the Ferret being the one able to move on and keeping up the so far great day.

Dagmar during this would also being having a great time on the court going up against a different Aqual player Álvaro, things would seemingly go the same way in this match as it had for Ceallachán with the Ferret almost having too easy of a time in the first set. Which her suspicion would prove to be correct going into the second set when her opponent stepped up their game to prove they had what it took to make it in the world of tennis someday. Though having watched Ceallachán’s match she was kind of ready for this though it was still tiring to stay up on top of the lead getting around the hard top court. Though things were lucky for her in the fact that the set did not have to get dragged out for a long period of time, eventually coming through with the win. Going into the third set would end up being just like the second, with her opponent almost able to get the lead but today would just not be the day to see that happen, and just like her teammate Ástríður she was able to get a match win in just three sets.

Säde would be the one that on paper would look to have the hardest match out of all of them going up against a Cenian on their home turf, Kika. Going into the first set as cautiously as she could it took some work to eventually take the lead for herself, which came as a surprise after all the effort that was put into the back and forth to take the win at the end of it. It seemed like things even went more in her favor going into the second set against Kika, with the Ferret able to get back into the lead even quicker this time around to win the second set of the match and making things a real possibility for another three set match in such a short time frame. Getting into the third set she gave it her all which saw her being able to start off with the lead this time and her opponent being the one to have to work if they wanted to take the lead for themselves, something that never ended up coming for them. Winning the third set and thus the match things were really just unreal at that point, the match had to be way too easy. Though she was not about to question it and was very thankful to whatever circumstances allowed for her to win like that.

The long day for the team then came to a close with Birger being the last one up against Briton Xander, and looking to make for a perfect day for the team he tried his best to go for a quick win. Something that this time did not go in the Ferret’s way, seeing his first set be possibly the worse for the day with things dragging out so far as to need a tiebreaker for the start of the match alone. Granted after a lot of effort Birger was able to push through to get the win but after that things just ended up going more downhill for the Ferret from there. With the Briton able to keep up the heat to keep the lead in the second set to get the win for themselves, and then repeat it again in the third set putting the Ferret in the worse spot possible. Needing to win the next two sets for himself it seemed like a wall of a task, one that this time he would unfortunately be unable to scale. With the final fourth set seeing him be the one to break and losing the match, being the last to play and the first to lose was a rather hard hit for Birger.

“Do not worry Birger, I will be here to help carry you through to the finals on the doubles side.” Hermanni joked.

“You carrying me, do not be silly, I will come back to be the one to carry you while you tire yourself on the singles side competition.”

“Yeah as long as you do not end up taking Ceallachán’s place at the bottom to be sacrificed for the rest of the team’s luck.” Alwyn added in laughing at the two.

With that there was only a few other matches that they could watch before the day was over, the team was doing incredibly well so far and now all they had to do was relax, tomorrow would end up looking the same competition lineup wise with them having to be in the event for pretty much all day getting through the singles and doubles side. Which would be double the workload for pretty much the whole team though they were ready to deal with that to the best of their ability.
Currently traveling across the United States. Still up for any conversations though.

Roman tennis summary from the Cenian Open
By Maurentius Chalcocondyles
19 June 7526 AM/2018 AD

Image

Maurentius' sum-up of all the performances by Roman tennis players in the First Round of the 6th Cenian Open singles.

Singles
Elif Bilgin
vs. Wensel Freeton (Qasden) 6-4, 6-1, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3
Very strong start to the match with a dominant performance in the second set. Slipped and seemed to strain her knee at the start of the third set but continued to battle on and just had enough left in the tank to beat his opponent. The Turk can still be delighted to have bested her male performance and sets up a challenging tie with another Qasdenian - 26th seed Jaxton Monty.

Tihkoosue
vs. Max Aswick (New Gelderland) 4-6, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, 6-7
The crying red man from the New World was an unknown quantity even to Roman audiences before the match and proved himself to be an interesting player to watch with his unusual style of play and grip of the racket. A self-proclaimed grass specialist with a dislike of the hard court, it seemed to take him a while to adjust and by the time he had it was too little, too late.

Kado Eveno
vs. Johmer Vales (Ceni) 2-6, 0-6, 1-6
After an impressive first victory in the qualifiers the young man really struggled to get going in this match against a far superior opponent. The 10th seed returned Eveno's normally dangerous serve with relative ease. A learning experience for the Bretonian Eveno.

Diego Amorin
vs. Orsolya Szabó (Gergary) 7-5, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3
Amorin is much more comfortable on clay court as seen during his dominance of his local Sardinian Open but showed no signs of struggling to adjust, seeing off the Gergarian #1 fairly comfortably. He can be very proud of all the hours spent practicing on hard court in preparation and earns a challenging tie against 10th seed Johmer Vales from Ceni who saw off Kado Eveno in the previous round.

Margaret Croft
Ahmad Safwan (Sharktail) 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4
Although used to best-of-three ties she proved her fitness was up to the text with a strong showing to ease past Sharktail's #1. Victory in the battle of the sexes goes to the Romans. Faces 5th seed Andrew Lamar of New Gelderland in the 2nd Round. A tough challenge.

Sophia Milaris
vs. Mónica Mariño (Aqual) 6-7, 6-2, 6-4, 6-3
Limp display from her opponent in this women-only tie. The Greek Milaris showed just why she was the number 1 ranked female in the Empire with a dominant display. Faces another female in the Second Round - Mattijanan Maria Julenic who upset 22nd seed Paisley Brazzos in the First Round.

Sabine Mayer
vs. Andrew Simmons (Electrum) 6-7, 3-6, 5-7
Not a good day for the Germanic who huffed up and puffed but never showed enough quality to win a set against the 21st seed.

Thea Psaki
vs. Deanne Smith (Electrum) 4-6, 3-6, 2-6
A limp performance from Rome's women's #2 who got worse as the performance went on, seeming to lack stamina.

Oscar Skinner
vs. Malcolm Press (Electrum) 4-6, 2-6, 1-6
A devastating defeat for the Briton who the Imperial Tennis Association had very high hopes for but Rome's male #2 just couldn't hit peak performance and fell to defeat. A Roman falls against the Electrumites for the third time today.

George Ehrmann
Damian Green (Ethane) 6-3, 6-4, 6-3
Relatively easy match for Rome's #1 who showed no signs of struggling with fixture congestion after triumphing in the doubles the day prior. A tough tie against 17th seed and Mattijanan #1 Dominika Lisicki beckons.

Ainhoe Eneko
Jason Gordon (Britonisea) 2-6, 6-7, 6-2, 3-6
Tough tie for the lowly-ranked Basque who only just qualified. Victory in the third set means she can come out with her head held high despite defeat.

Romans progressing to the Second Round/last 64: 5/11

ANALYSING THE TOP TEN PLAYERS AT THE CENIAN OPEN 6

Tournament: Cenian Open 6

Cenian Open: The winner of the Cenian Open will gain 2000 points to their total - but that's if they didn't participate in the contest last year.

With a solid performance of 8.6 million watching BITC's coverage of the Cenian Open 6 on average, we thought that for the other 18 million households - who were obviously busy watching something less important - we would give them a guide to the top ten players at the Open in the Singles Tournament...

#1 LIAM PENDERYN (NGD)

Firstly, we go to the player from New Gelderland, Liam, who has been at the top of the Singles ranking for quite some time is the player ranked #1 coming in to the Cenian Open. In the updated ranks, Liam Penderyn is still number one, especially after having gained a convincing 2280 points for the year to date points. In Liam's first game of the tournament, he was playing against a Daniel Cervantes - but the match was not plain sailing for him. Liam had to go through a fourth set after during the second set Daniel managed to gain 7 games to Liam's 5 games. Liam - looking at the rankings - has not won a Grand Slam tournament, which is something that he will need in order to maintain his #1 status, but that is bound to be taken away from the players ranked #2 and #3 in the tournament, both of which did not participate in last year's Cenian Open, and are looking to gain as much points as possible going in to the contest.

#2 LEO GARRY (BRI)

Although Leo Garry from our very own Britonisea has been given rank number two in the tournament, he is currently ranked #3, after the last tournament that took place. Leo Garry's performance has been very up and down over the past few years, as he slowly climbs up to victory, reaching his highest ever rank. In comparison to the other players, Leo Garry has not gained many points - only being 7th in total with 1565 points year-to-date. Leo Garry's eyes have been set on Dagmar, who recently overtook him in the rankings, and so Leo Garry has to work very hard this time round in his pursuit to happiness at the top of the world. Leo Garry's performance is not too dissimilar from the #1 ranked player going in to this, with Julia Marelika, his opponent, taking the first set. Leo saw this as a problem and swiftly took the next three sets.

more to come soon....

Postby Ferret Civilization » Tue Jun 19, 2018 11:05 pm

Going into the day of the round of sixty four things were looking to be even more grueling with nearly everyone on the team having to play on both the singles side and doubles side. It went without saying that they would definitely not be spending this day out and about either once the competition was over, that all would be saved for hopefully tomorrow when it got into the round of thirty two if they all managed to not lose. No matter what though the team would be happy whatever happened today and get through it with all they had, cleaned up and well fed like always along with the solid start kept the hopes high that today would go no different anyways. All that was left to do was get through the whole day of matches and see how things went.

After yesterday's nearly rocky start for Llinos today she came to the court more ready for the possible challenge the Briton Kieron could possibly bring into the games. Possibly with more zeal than the Ferret needed Llinos went all out for the start of the day in the first set, making sure to get a good foundation with an early lead to hold the match. It saw the first set end quickly with the Ferret taking the win over the Briton, and the process was repeated in the second set to push the hope for a quick win again. Things seemed to be going strongly in her favor this time around as after the first and second set were over in the third set she still did not falter. Though there was a near turning point after losing a third game, nothing ended up coming of it as Llinos was able to hold an advantage to win the match as quickly as she possibly could, which would help pay off for later as she could still go all out strong for the doubles side of the competition and rest up until that point later today.

Hermanni however would not get as easy as a game as he did yesterday, having to go up against a Cenian Louis which was sure to make for a fun match for anyone that was watching, Birger being one of them here. The Ferret was off to a quicker start over the Cenian just like it had gone for Llinos, though Louis would make sure to not let themselves go down so simply. Coming into the rebound at the end of the first set it was too late there, with Hermanni able to take the first set win before things got bad, but that just pushed off things going bad for the second set, where every game got contested hard. Going to the point of the tie breaker game in the second set to decide who would win it, by whatever luck he had Hermanni was the one able to score the point needed to take the hard fought for set. But going into the third set the Cenian just up revving up the ante and eventually was able to take the lead and shoot ahead in the score to take the win there. It was up to Hermanni to be the one to rebound this time and he was sure to pull it off, going into the second heavily contested set that could not go into a tie breaker this time around, and it was up to the Ferret to work to get up to the two point lead needed to win. Which still with whatever luck he had he was able to pull off, to take the match win and move on. Birger joked with him after about who would be carrying who on the doubles side now after getting pushed to the limit here.

For his game Alwyn would have to deal with another rough match to deal with, this time going up against one of the other Britons Lucky, out of all the names he had seen his opponents seemed to be one of the most interesting. But on the court that did not matter as the two went at against each other, racking up the score on both sides right at the start of everything. Unsurprisingly this had to lead to a tie breaker, for the first set this would set a tough stage to grind through if every other set ended up like this one with endless games to get through for set wins. And unlike Hermanni Lucky was the lucky one in this match to take the game needed for the first set win, making it so Alwyn had to be the one to work harder if he wanted the match win. Which he got to work pulling off right at the start of the second set, with the two continuing to rack up the score, though this time Alwyn was able to get ahead with the lead at the end of it to win evening things out. The third set ended up being the back and forth stage that just never wanted to end, with neither side giving up any ground without making the other side go all in for it. And Alwyn made sure to go all in for it, eventually getting through winning that set. In the fourth set things seemed to calm down as all that effort for was starting to not be worth it, though the two managed to keep going back and forth with some work. However Alwyn was the one to get through with the hard fought for win.

Alwyn’s doubles partner also would have his work set out against him, with Ceallachán having to face Cenian Noah if he wanted to stay in the competition. Though like Hermanni he was able to start of with a quick lead in the first set to set the stage for the match. And much like Louis Noah got to work to rebound from having to deal with such a quick starting loss, though Ceallachán was able to hold his opponent off for a little bit longer, taking most the first set for himself. Then going into the second set trying to go for a fast win again before things started to get tougher, and going into the third set the tables had turned with the Cenian able to take a quick lead and go with it. With it being up to the fourth set for the Ferret to end things there or risk a real possibility of losing Ceallachán gave it his all to turn the tables back around, and surprisingly he was able to do so, not having to deal with some bad luck he was able to take the lead to win the match, already setting the day off to a good day for the team once again.

After that there was some downtime to watch some other games finish up before Ástríður was up facing Mattijana player Sabina, which was an interesting case as Hermanni had faced a player with that name and nation yesterday, it must have been a mix up with some names and the Ferret was still down to play and go for the win. Starting off things went right for this Sabina’s favor and Ástríður backed off to not get tangled up in trying to savage a losing situation. Instead opting to come back hard in the second set, which ended up paying off for her with major success, in the end not losing a single game there, setting the stage for the real competition part of the match going into the third set. The Ferret was able to hold the lead here however to eventually get the win after struggling with some back and forth to get into the fourth set. This is where things got rough for the Ferret, with some more back and forth to wear Ástríður down to the point that losing the tie breaker game was unfortunately expected. Going into the fifth set however the Ferret still had not given up and gave it one last push to take the lead there, which ended up working to where all she had to do was fight Sabina to keep from losing the lead until the end. Which the end saw Ástríður taking the win and keeping up the great team luck they were having so far.

Once Dagmar was up she came back with her A game against Qad Feyrord, coming out strong in the first set just like she was able to do yesterday for another quick win in her favor. With that she was able to power through the tougher second set that was to come holding onto a lead and not letting the Qad get too close to overcoming her score, which paid off with her second set win. This ended up being a lot tougher to pull off in the third set with Feyrord slowly continuing to push harder and harder after every lost game, but Dagmar was able to stay on top of things and own the hard top court for once in her career here in tennis. Coming through being able to win the match’s only three sets just like that and being able to move on. Säde was the last one up on the lineup since Birger lost his match, she would have to go up against Mattijana player Aljaž. Wanting to keep up the great outcome she had gotten from yesterday she too gave it her all at the start of things, while also wanting the quick win so when it came time to go over to the doubles side she would still have it in her to help Llinos push for a win. Things started off pretty shaky as it seemed like Aljaž would be the one to win after a strong start, though Säde was able to rebound before the set was over to shoot ahead and steal the lead needed to win. Going into the second set with the flow she needed to keep winning games to hold the lead and win the set, repeating the process with even better results in the third set to quickly win the match. Ending the singles side of the competition with a perfect day, though tomorrow they would not get the same on the singles side with Dagmar and Säde having to play against each other. Though for now the team hoped they could pull off the feat they just did for the doubles side as well.

“So how is my fellow number one doing now?” Birger asked more seriously to Hermanni, “Alright, going to be facing some new people on the court.”

“So I have heard, seems like their team has done pretty good for themselves over all starting off. Think we can take them?” Hermanni laughed, “Probably yes. Think they will be surprised by what they have to play against.”

“I kind of hope so, will make things easier for us right.” And with that Birger and Hermanni’s time to go on the court came, having to face some Romans Martin and Rodrigo. Things started off strongly in the Ferrets’ favor, though their competition was still able to be a little bit of a fight in taking some games for themselves. Though in the end it was the two Ferrets able to be the ones to come through with a strong foundation and then repeat the process in the second set, finishing the match pretty quickly which Hermanni was pretty thankful for after going through the singles side. Much like their teammates had done for the Aqual opponents they faced the two made sure to wish the two Romans better luck in the future, the draws sometimes really sucked like how it did for them this time around but if they stuck at it they would manage to get pretty far in the tennis world.

Ceallachán and Alwyn during that were going up against Electrumites Sara and Deanne, unfortunately for the two this would end up being were the team’s luck ran dry. And after a hard fought for first set the two ended up losing making for some hard work cut out ahead for them if they wanted to win. Though after going through the singles side and all the effort put into the games here, winning the second set was hard enough, and their reward was only pushing things out further and making them have to go through more games. With that the Electrum players were able to regain the lead to take the win, ending the match just like that, with the two of them being the first loss for the doubles side and the day. It gave Birger a good laugh once he heard about it, “Guess you will be the one loss for the day here, for the rest of the team right.”

Dagmar and Ástríður were the next two up facing Ethanian players Juliet and Lucy, the two sides both started off giving it their all to go for a quick win, which ended up turning the whole thing into kind of a stalemate with the back and forth, but in the end the Ferret duo were the ones to break through and take the win. Which after that moral boost that things did not turn against them they were able to put even more effort into the match to win things quicker than what happened in the first set. The two of them ended up winning every single game for themselves not letting their opponents take any for themselves to get a foot in the door. Taking the match win for themselves and being able to move on with the doubles side as well as on the singles side. It just left it up to Llinos and Säde to finish up the day for the team facing Britons Lance and Ricardo, much like how it went for their teammates the games went back and forth at the start dragging them and thus the sets out with both sides wanting to win. Though the day seemed to favor the Ferrets over the Britons for now unlike the one match the two sides had against each other yesterday, with Säde and Llinos able to come through with a win at the end of the first set. Just to have to repeat the process again in the second set, working their way up to eventually shut down their opponents and take the win.

After that the second day was wrapped up for the team and once again they only had to deal with one loss rather than losing half the remain team it seemed after every event day, which really showed how far they had managed to come as a group to themselves at least. While they were all happy the only thing most of them wanted to do now however was go back to the hotel and lay down, which was understandable after such a day like this, and so that is what they did, talking about how they were doing and joking around about all the pipe dreams they had had over all these years.
Currently traveling across the United States. Still up for any conversations though.

Roman tennis summary from the Cenian Open
By Maurentius Chalcocondyles
20 June 7526 AM/2018 AD

Image

Maurentius' sum-up of all the performances by Roman tennis players in the Second Round of the Singles and the First Round of the Doubles at the 6th Cenian Open.

Singles
Elif Bilgin
vs. Jaxton Monty (Qasden) 6-2, 2-6, 5-7, 6-4, 6-0
Despite fitness concerns came out of the blocks very quickly and bossed the opening set. As the game grew on started to struggle with her knee and after working so hard in the third set only to lose after losing her balance it seemed her time in Ceni was up. But after some guiding words from her coach regained focus and played magnificently, battering the 26th seed and winning her fifth and final set without losing a game. A stunning upset and the second Qasdenian she has defeated. Odds are stacked against her as she faces 9th seed Llinos Cairistìona of the Ferret Civilisation in the Third Round

Diego Amorin
vs. Johmer Vales (Ceni) 2-6, 2-6, 6-2, 1-6
A tough tie and Amorin just didn't have enough in him to beat the 10th seed, Vales seeing his opponent off rather comfortably backed by a vociferous home crowd.

Margaret Croft
vs. Andrew Lamar (New Gelderland) 4-6, 2-6, 7-6, 0-6
Battled valiantly against New Gelderland's #2 and managed to grind out a win in the third set but she is still not used to playing more than three sets and was visibly exhausted in the final set which she surrendered meekly.

Sophia Milaris
vs. Maria Julenic (Mattijanan) 4-6, 2-6, 7-6, 0-6
Julenic was coming into this game on good form after upsetting the 22nd seed in the First Round and it showed, seeming full of confidence. Similar to Margaret Croft Milaris never seemed suited to the lengthier games at the Ceni Open and worked hard to win a set but faded in the final set with little left in the tank.

George Ehrmann
vs. Dominika Lisicki (Mattijanan) 3-6, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-3
A thoroughly respectable performance from Rome's #1 despite bowing out of the competition. Was always up against it versus the the 17th seed but Ehrmann showed great character to bring it back to 2-2 after losing the opening two sets. Can focus on his efforts in the doubles after a satisfying performance in the singles.

Romans progressing to the Third Round/last 32: 1/5

Doubles
Martin Symsom/Rodrigo Ortega
vs. Birger Gwil/Hermanni Conall (Ferret Civilisation) 3-6, 3-6
A game against the first seeds was always going to a challenge but Symson and Ortega played bravely and at times put their opponents on the back foot though lacked the ability to make their advantage count when they pressed the Ferret Pair. Respectably defeat.

Ainhoa Eneko/Vanessa Traka
vs. Dominika Lisicki/Rikard Kampl (Mattijanan) 1-6, 3-6
Lisicki's second victory of the day against Roman opposition as she and her partner beat Eneko and Traka with ease. A nothing performance from the two.

George Ehrmann/Franz Bernasconi
vs. Aizat/Muhammad Syahmi (Sharktail) 4-6, 7-6, 6-4
Sharktail's lone doubles pair were dismissed with a strong performance by Roman #1 Ehrmann and his doubles partner. Fell behind and had showed graft and desire to win the second set but upped their game in the final set to cruise into the next round. Extremely challenging next opponents - 4th seeds Elia and Fia Xal from Ceni and their tournament is surely over.

Romans progressing to the Second Round/last 32: 1/3

Postby Ferret Civilization » Thu Jun 21, 2018 12:58 am

The following morning saw most the team wake up pretty sore still from having to push through all of yesterday’s games and matches, though everyone looked forward to seeing how the round of thirty two would go and how their luck would do as the competition narrowed down. It was funny that with this grand slam that the competition was already looking to get pretty fierce moving forward and they have not even hit the quarterfinals part of the even yet, seemed like this tournament brought out the best all the team’s had to give it to win it. Euan was more happy to inform the team after they had all washed up for the day and gotten together over breakfast that with this round the event was now back on schedule, so the organizers had opted to keep this day split up into two, meaning only most the team had to play and then there would actually be time afterwards to play around and enjoy themselves in the city attractions. And while it seemed weird to have just one round out of all of them split into two with how things started off they would not try to argue with it, it might end up working in their favor after all or it could end up blowing up in their face, they did not really know.

Getting into the day Llinos was up first facing the last Roman Elif, who having gotten this far being a new player either certainly showed they had the luck or the skill to get far. And going into the first round they really showed off that it was the skill they possessed to make a possible name for themselves, bringing out all the stops to push the games to their limit. With the two players having to go back and forth with the score and across the court for any hope of maintaining a tie it would of course end up with there having to be a tie breaker to end things for the first set. Which Llinos was the one able to come through and steal the win there, bringing the whole process back to the start of the second set to be done all over again. Even after how rough it was yesterday she gave it her all to continue to get herself back and forth running across the court to stay with the ball, paying off with only maintaining the tie the two still managed to have. This is where a rare occurence of needing another tie breaking game came in after a lot of time had started to pass with no clear sight of who would win, just the set. Though once again the Ferret was able to swoop in the last game of the set to take it for herself and win again. Going into the third set the process amazingly once again started over again, with Elif now going even more all out to push the match to what they probably wanted to be five sets now to win themselves, and eventually taking the third set made things seem like they could possibly do just that. Going into the fourth set however Llinos was sure to start off with the lead this time, to go on and eventually overcome the Roman to win the match without having to go into a fifth set. Though after yesterday’s doubles match and today’s singles match it seemed like there would be a few new faces around on the court with a real chance of carving a name for themselves if they stuck at it.

Hermanni meanwhile was going up against a more established tennis player, Cenian Ardil, in what was sure to already be a tough match. Starting off it once again seemed like the Ferret would take an early lead in the first set to get a strong foundation to go into the rest of the match with, however the Cenian was able to rebound fast to shoot ahead right as it seemed like Hermanni had things in the bag. Shooting ahead to take the last three games that were needed for them to win and denying the Ferret the one game he just needed to win. After that things just got worse for the Ferret from there, seeing as he was the one this time not being able to get any sort of edge in the second set, which lead to Ardil taking pretty much the whole thing for themselves. Though the Ferret was able to bite back in the third set, jumping back into things to take the lead like how he wanted to do in the first set though had to make do with doing it now to win there. Bringing things to a fourth set where if Hermanni wanted to win the match he had to win this and then the next set, unfortunately he would never get that far, after some hard fought for games his opponent was able to slip right back into the lead and shut the Ferret down. Seeing Hermanni being sadly just one of the ones to lose today. After his match though Birger was there to cheer him up with about how they could now just focus on the doubles side of the competition and surely kick butt there.

With Alwyn things were not looking much easier going up against the other well established team from New Gelderland, this match seeing him face off against Max. Starting off with the first set it was clear that after a while of hard fought for games that Max was able to hold the lead throughout the whole thing, a lead that would of course see them winning the first set despite the Ferret trying to overcome it. In the second set however Alwyn was able to flip the tables on Max and do the same thing that was done in the first set right back on them in this second set. Going into the third set after that would see Alwyn’s luck improve, as after that he was able to finally get a solid lead to take more and more games for himself. After winning that all that was left for him to do was take the fourth set or have things get pushed out, and keeping up with what he had done in the third set he just repeated that to take as much as he could. It ended up actually working, after the rough start Alwyn was able to take the middle and then really take the end for himself. His doubles partner Ceallachán would not get it so easy against a different Cenian player Johmer, starting off in a way a lot like Llinos did with a lot of hard fought for back and forth games just to take the first set. Only in this case it would be the Cenian to swoop in the final game to take the set for themselves leaving the Ferret at a disadvantage, and going into the second set it seemed like things would only go better for his opponent at the start. It would not be until near the end when Ceallachán was able to tie things up at five to five that with a second wind the Ferret was able to take the last two games needed to win the set. Though it ended up being for nothing going into the next set as Johmer was able to keep up the pressure to take most of the third set for themselves leaving Ceallachán once again with a lot to have to overcome in order to win. And it almost seemed like he could pull it off going through the fourth set, though when things got to the end like in the second set, this time it ended with Johmer getting the last games needed to win the whole match. Seeing the Ferret be one of two to lose on the singles side for the day.

After it was over all Alwyn could do was laugh at what had happened hearing the end results of it all, instead of facing Hermanni in a friendly match in the round of sixteen he would have to face Ardil. Which then if he won he would get a chance to play Llinos, which given after Liam’s surprising loss seemed like there was more of a chance for at least her to make it through for a while longer to go on to ‘Win another grand slam’ as Alwyn continued to joke. Just to top it all off with Ceallachán finally having his bad luck catch back up to him with this loss making for a more normal day back when the team was starting off with half of them being knocked out. Overall it was a pretty funny situation, and it would be interesting to see how this affected the end results.

Though it was then time for the doubles side, Birger and Hermanni were up against Britons Jaguar and Zeke, with this being the only part of the competition that both Ferrets were now it they made sure that they would not go out easy if that was to be the case. And it seemed like even after getting his tail handed to him on the singles side Hermanni was still in it on the doubles side with his all to help Birger dominate the court. With the pair starting off strong enough to take a quick lead and hold onto it, denying their opponents even a slight chance to get an advantage. It saw the two quickly taking the first set for themselves, and then the two went on to do it all over again in the second set. Making sure that pretty much every game there went towards their favor and shutting out whatever the Britons had to give. And just like that they were able to win a rather quick match despite not being able to pull the same feat over on the singles side. From there it was up to Ástríður and Dagmar to finish up the day going against Electrumites Rosa and Sonya, going into their first set it was pretty clear that the fifty fifty thing with their team was going to hold true no matter how much the Ferrets fought it. With their opponents slowly getting the lead to end up taking the first set, and going into the second set they attempted to try even harder to win with no avail. The Electrum players were able to hold their lead throughout the match to win it for themselves.

Though once the day was over no one on the team was out of the competition fully, and given where they were at in the event that was some pretty good news to hear after the mediocre day. Which if it had been the full round of thirty two this outcome could have been worse, so they would take it for what it gave. And the team finally had time after the event day to go out and do something with the last two days having been just all hard work. Given that they had seen pretty much all the major places that the city had advertised to tourists most of them were pretty much at a loss for what they really wanted to do, Säde eventually mentioned that they could go back to that Novastar Avenue place and check out all that high end retail just for fun. So that is what they decided to do, still looking really out of place with their best tennis outfits being all they had and not looking like everyone else at all that is what they made do with to have some fun.

Of course once they had gotten to the high end side of what was probably many the city and nation had to offer it was mostly just window shopping from there, as none of them really had the money to blow on these things for sale that all the different shops had for customers. There was also the problem that even if they wanted anything most of the stuff would not be a fit for them, which meant that if they even really wanted something like an expensive set of clothes it would probably be an outrageous markup to get a custom fit. Though seeing the lengths the local rich would go was quite a learning experience and sight to see.

“So what would you buy if you got the prize money?” Alwyn asked having moseyed on over to Llinos, who chuckled, “You ask like I would have any sort of chance of winning it.”

“Well you have done it before elsewhere after all, and it is fun to think about what it would be like to have all that money no? Especially if you add on that Birger and Hermanni will be really gunning for that win as well right?”

“You know it!” Birger answered having been mentioned by name. Llinos just chuckled again, “I would not know, suppose we will have to think about what to do with it if we get it. I doubt any of us would be able to spend it all it seems like so much money.”

“Yeah it sure is, gives something to dream about. Be able to go to places like this and not even think the prices are that bad and have whatever one wants.”

Eventually the starting of a case of another pipe dream would have to come to an end with the team having gotten the chance to see what most the wears for sale were along this rich place. Ending the day there by getting to see the lights of the place start to come on as the place got closer to dusk before having to head back to where they were staying to get ready to finish up the round of thirty two tomorrow without hopefully losing another half the players for that day.

Postby Ferret Civilization » Thu Jun 21, 2018 9:33 pm

Today started off already better than how the last few days had, with those that had to play today well rested up and those that had to play yesterday got to spend this day relaxing and to enjoy watching the matches. Of course on this bottom half not as much of the team had to play, and given after yesterday it seemed closer to a perfect split now for who was on which side of the dwindling base of players left in the competition. Looking at today however the team was already lucky and not lucky in the fact that two of them had to play against each other on the singles side, which at least meant they got one win for today already in the bag. After going through the normal morning routine the team was ready to get the event day underway and see how things would fair for them setting up what tomorrow would be like.

Ástríður was up first for the team, facing the last Mattijana player Dominika on the singles side, which started off on the wrong foot for the Ferret, seeing her opponent start off with the lead and then snowball to the point where there was just no chance for recovery. Which ended up seeing Dominika take the first set for themselves, and after a rather poor start Ástríður took this point at the start of the second set to rebound and dominate the court for herself for as long as she could, it ended up going very well. After only losing one game she was able to walk away with a set win, and then go onto the third set to once again completely dominate the court, shutting her opponent down from taking any game for themselves. While it seemed like the Ferret would come back to repeat the process for the fourth set it seemed like Dominika still had some fight left to give, and ended up eventually reclaiming the lead to win pushing out the match to the fifth and final set. From there though the advantage was lost for them and Ástríður turned things right back around to do her best to keep control of the court in her favor, once again it was surprisingly able to work swell, and saw the Ferret win the match and get to move on.

Dagmar and Säde during that really tough match got to enjoy an easier event day given where they were at just playing against each other. It was pretty much unspokenly agreed upon to let Dagmar have the win, as here it would be more of a help to her to claim that top spot for herself with Liam out of the competition and all that was left to look out for was Leo. So going into the first set between the two Ferrets they had their practice style fun which saw the score get tied up and then go up and up with things getting dragged out to the point where the tie breaker game had to come in and finish it. A tie breaker that Dagmar quickly took for herself to start of the match in her favor as the two of them went along. Speeding things up in the second set to quickly take that one for herself as well, though Säde had a little bit of fun in the third set ramping things up and taking a lot of games for herself that time around. Which ended up seeing Säde take the set and push things out to a fourth set just for the fun of things, where the two of them brought more of their, in an event game face on to make things interesting. While Säde was able to have the advantage in the start Dagmar was slowly able to overcome her teammate to end things before they had to go into an unnecessary fifth set. And with that over it was Dagmar that got to move on, and the team technically was able to have the most perfect outcome today that they would have gotten on the singles side.

Going over to the doubles side it was just Säde going back into things with Llinos to face Gregary pair Alexandra and Ralph, going into things the two Ferrets decided to slowly build up momentum starting off slow and giving their competition somewhat of a lead before they were able to outpace them to take the lead back for themselves. Seeing the score get close once or twice in the first set, though in the end where it mattered the most it was Llinos and Säde to come through and take the win there. Going into the second set the two had their rhythm down to take the lead and hold it throughout all the good and bad games for them. Eventually getting through with the set win and finishing the match in just two simple sets and making for the most perfect day the team would probably get here. Looking forward to the round of sixteen things looked to get a whole lot tougher, with the Cenians holding an edge over everyone paper wise in this competition, though the team had been through worse so they felt confident in the fact that one of them could at least make it through to the however bad things got. At least their expectations were that they could avoid another Mattijana at the very least.

Once the day was officially over looking at who would be going into the round of sixteen they were pretty happy that it was half of them that started off were still in it and that it was the same story over on the doubles side as well. It seemed like it would be a full day of going up against the best Cenians and New Gelderland players as well as some of what was left of the Britons, definitely was going to be an uphill battle to get through in order to earn their places in the quarterfinals and beyond. Though it was now time for some relaxation, and surprisingly since starting off on this side adventuring thing that they did they did not have any idea where to go at all. And they still had a few more days hopefully left to enjoy themselves, so they would eventually have to find something to not be all fun work. For now though the team settled with just going back to where they were staying to watch the local news and whatever else the media showed while just having a fun night talking with each other about life.

After a short break of doing sadly nothing it was soon time to look forward to the last round before the quarterfinals, and the team was looking to do as good as possible to fill it up with as many as their own as they could to have somewhat of a better chance going into the end. Of course the competition was just getting harder and harder to get through with the way things were turning out here, which would make it tougher to achieve that goal of getting on through. But the optimism would remain high over their course of getting ready for the day and a large portion of breakfast before the team had to head off.

First up was Llinos going against New Gelderland player Melissa, starting off strong to earn a quick lead at the beginning of the first set. Leading to it being over nearly as quickly as it began, though going into the second set would be like hitting a roadblock. Going from looking to smooth sailing to a tough back and forth was not all that unusual however, and unfortunately because of that it ended up seeing Melissa be the one to swoop in to get the lead and win at the end of the set to tie things up match wise. However the Ferret would not let her opponent capitalize on that going into the third set, pushing things back into her favor with another quick few games. Though going into the fourth set which Llinos wanted to be the final one went back to the rough back and forth with both sides needing to win this for either their win or chance to win. With a tied up score for a second time, it would be Llinos to come in this time at the end to win the set, and thus the match. After that was all over Llinos looked forward to hearing that she would be playing Alwyn in the quarterfinals, though it would not end up going that way.

Alwyn during that match was going up against Ardil, trying to overcome the Cenian this time where Hermanni had failed to do so. While in the end Alwyn would lose it would not be without a fight, starting off stronger than Llinos to take nearly the whole first set for himself before things had to go bad. With things getting ramped up in the second set that after looking too close to call would see Ardil jump out ahead to take the win. This back and forth would then be repeated again in the third set, though there it was more obvious that the Cenian held the lead and go on to win their second set. Leaving it up to Alwyn to have to power through two sets just like the situation Hermanni was in. Going into the fourth set things continued to be tough with both sides working hard to get a solid lead which never came, instead it was a repeat of the second set, that would once again see Ardil jump out ahead to win the set and the match just like that. This would end up leaving Llinos to be the one to face Ardil there to overcome where her two other teammates had just failed.

“You know we have been playing against Cenians too much, they are starting to get good at countering the only thing we got.” Alwyn said trying to excuse just why he ended up losing, which saw Hermanni laugh.

“Perhaps Llinos here will get that third time is the charm luck and be able to win, already got really lucky not having to face Liam.”

“Yeah, pretty sure if I had to face him I would have lost for sure, wonder what Ardil has to be thinking, facing another Ferret after already cutting through you two.”

“I do not know Llinos, hopefully not another free win, least make him work for it.” Alwyn answered before Hermanni could.

Meanwhile on the bottom side of the lineup of players it was Ástríður against Cenian Lonus, so far for this event the Ferrets had been having a terrible time against the Cenian team and Ástríður looked to turn that around. Things started off rough and tough, with the two of them pushing the score higher and higher with neither of them getting a solid lead. Which would lead things to have to be solved with a tie breaker game, one that the Ferret would be able to take, making all that hard work worth it for her. Going into the next set things were not looking to become any easier with the two sides giving it their all, though this time around it would be Ástríður to break through before things got too bad again to take the second set win. The third set would just be like the second one, only this time around it was Lonus to come through to get their first set win after working hard to get one after so many games. Pushing things out to a fourth set did nothing however to stop the two sides from giving it their all to keep the score tied up for as long as possible. This time around however it would see the Ferret be the one to break through once again to win the set and match, overcoming the Cenian and being the second Ferret to get into the quarterfinals.

It would be up to Dagmar then to fill in that third quarterfinals spot that the team could get for themselves, having to go through the Briton Xander to get it. While Xander was able to get an easier time against Birger, Dagmar would work harder to make sure that she would win/ Though going into the first set it was all Briton despite the somewhat lackluster fight the Ferret put up putting the whole match already to a bad start. However going into the second set Dagmar was able to flip the tables and almost create the reverse situation of the first set back onto her opponent. Going into the third set saw the Briton put up more resistance to try and take the win but Dagmar was able to hold onto the lead still through the thickest of it all. Things would not get any easier in the fourth set with the Briton giving it their all to go overcome the best Ferret, eventually leading to a tiebreaker game, where Dagmar was able to come in and take it for herself. Making all her hard work worth it and allowing her to move on to the quarterfinals, and looking at those that made it through things were looking very tough from there on out, with Ástríður being the lowest ranked out of everyone left in the competition, and that could change with her having to go up against the best Briton in her next match.

Going into the doubles side Birger and Hermanni were up against Britons Georgia and Lukas, while looking to repeat how great the two did last time on the courts things would not go that easy for them, and probably never would going deeper into the competition. However they would not do horribly themselves, with a rocky back and forth start eventually and slowly going into their favor by the end of the first set saw them take the win putting them off to a good start. From there they were able to ramp things up themselves to do even better in the second set, taking most of it in their favor and only losing twice before it was over and they won the match. From there on out it would look like they would be facing Cenians and New Gelderland players. And on the other side of the lineup Llinos and Säde were already going up against Cenians, Botack and Johmer, for their chance to move on. They started off much like their fellow duo players, slow and nearly tied for most of the start, though the Ferrets were able to work their way up to the lead to win the first set for themselves. And just like the other match from the second set games onward they were able to ramp things up, for them however they only ended up losing one game instead of two, looking to outperform the males on the court. From there for them however the difficulty was going to be up a lot with them having to play the best Britons next.

“Well it looks like it is up to you guys to knock the last of Britons out of the competition next set of matchs, or have them take a chunk out of what is left in our team.” Euan noted after the day was over.

“Looking at tomorrow it seems like that is going to happen no matter what.” Birger replied.

“Could, or we could get unbelievably lucky and everyone that is still in it will win their matches and move on. We will see how it goes when we get there right.” Ceallachán added.

“Alright we are definitely going to need something to do after today, only so much group watching television does to pass the time by.” Alwyn brought up over breakfast after another afternoon and night of pretty much doing nothing. Having been in Ceni for coming upon a month now it seemed like they had gone through seeing all the big time tourist places at least once or twice now, and while they could always revisit places they wanted to try to avoid that since they would probably be back here again soon to do that anyways.

“How about this, if we all do super well today and get through with most of us left in the competition, we should all just go out and party the night away.” Säde was the one to bring up, which the others mostly agreed to, be confident in their abilities to not all be knocked out this round and they would be able to have a fun time out then. Finishing up breakfast the first thing to do from there was to get through all the matches first, which hopefully would not end up taking too much time to get through.

Llinos was the first up trying to be the one to take down Ardil and one up her teammates that failed to win against the Cenian. It was no walk in the park for her though, and it would take many games before the Ferret would be the one to come out on top after seeing the score get tied up five to five. The second set ended up being just as brutal to get through with neither side backing down, though it almost seemed as though Ardil would be the one to take the set and if that happened take the rest of the match. Luck happened to be on Llinos’ side however still and once again she was able to come through at the end to win the set putting things strongly in her favor at the beginning sets of the match. From there she was able to capitalize on that and take a quicker lead in the third set, keeping her opponent from getting to far in the amount of games they got. It ended up paying off and seeing Llinos be the one to take down Ardil in this event with just three hard fought for sets.

“And that is how you do it.” Llinos said to Hermanni and Alwyn, “Oh you just got lucky.” The two of them tried to come up with anything to save themselves.

Ástríður would be the one for the day to have to go through a long and grueling match against Briton Leo, things started off in Leo’s favor with him getting a lead in the first set, holding it the whole time the Ferret tried to play the catch up game. However Ástríður was sure to return that favor going into the second set, not letting her opponent catch up once the lead was solidly in her favor and in the end doing a better job at it as well. Going into the third set things were largely the same seeing the Ferret once again get a solid lead and not letting the Briton get an edge anywhere. While Ástríður looked to repeat the process again for a third time to finish up the match however things would not be that easy for the Ferret this time around, seeing the games get more tough along with the set being mostly up in the air with who could win with both sides wanting it pretty badly. It would end up being Leo to come through to take it for themself to tie up the match and push things out into the fifth set, which Ástríður was not going to put up with them trying to take advantage of. Going into the final match she was able to work her way back through another set of games to get the lead and then hold onto it this time again to win the third set she needed to win the match, knocking the Britons out of the singles side of this event.

With Ástríður’s win it would be up to Dagmar to be the one to take an entire semifinals match for their own team and secure them a spot in the final match of the event for a chance to win another grand slam and a lot of money. And going up against Cenian Botack, Dagmar was able to deliver, the poor start the team had in this event going up against the Ceni team seemingly going away. Whether it was because of some outside troubles or just them finding their luck again no one would know until the other team announced whatever it was, but for now Dagmar was able to take a strong head start in the first set, to eventually take the whole thing for herself with Botack not taking a single first set game. Going into the second set things would apparently not go much better for the Cenian, with the Ferret still keeping a rather solid lead with only some setbacks to take another set and get closer to the real win. Going into the third set things would still not turn around for the Cenians favor, which no one on the Ferret team would argue, seeing Dagmar win the last set with the same solid lead. With that she would get to go on to face Ástríður in the semifinals, and then one of them would hopefully get to face Llinos in the final match if everything went perfect on the singles side of the competition. The only one that could mess that up now was New Gelderland player Andrew.

Going into the doubles side of things Birger and Hermanni would be up against Cenians Coosal and Gyrachor this time around, which would make for a tough match to get through. Though the Ferret duo were up to the task, working hard to keep the first set as tied up as possible before they had their opening to jump ahead and snatch the win for themselves. Going into the second set things would go a little easier for the two, with them getting the lead quicker and then they were able to hold onto it to win the match, keeping up their great luck and work that they had getting this far into the competition. Things would definitely continue to ramp up in difficulty however but they were up to the task to hold their brand new number one spot on the ranking list.

Llinos was up again on the doubles side with Säde to go up against Britons Leo and Elizabeth, with the stakes being if they won they would have gotten a perfect day and the Britons being knocked out of the event entirely. And of course the Britons would not want that to happen as they would lose their stake in getting the event win spoils, so starting off the two sides were at it fully trying to make sure the other side did not win. The first set would see the Ferrets be the one to slide in at the end to take the starting win, putting the Britons in a bad spot. Though it would not be one that they could not fight out of, and they made sure that they would not simply lose in two sets, coming around this time to take the last games needed to win the set. Pushing things out to a third set however did not end up going in the Britons favor, with the two Ferrets able to rebound and quickly take a solid lead this time. It ended up working for the two better than expected with their opponent only being able to get themselves one game in the final set to win the match. Once it was over it would be the Ferret team celebrating a rather surprising perfect day, and being this late into the competition with how many they had left in it, was just more to be happy about.

After the competition day was over the team got ready to go out and party at one of the city’s late night establishments to have a fun time. “Try not to get yourselves too drunk, some of you still have to play tomorrow and there is no need to mess things up now.” Was Euan’s only warning before they were all ready to head off after the sun had made its way through the sky.

“So Llinos really going to beat Andrew now and take the second grand slam for yourself?” Alwyn half teased half seriously asked. Llinos chuckled, “Maybe, or maybe Ástríður or Dagmar come in and take a grand slam for themselves when we get to that point. It would still be a great win for our team, besides maybe we will see how Birger and Hermanni will do against me and Säde this time in the finals on the doubles side.”

Birger scoffed when he heard that part, “Oh you know it will be us better players to take the grand slam win.”

“Better on paper, you know it is us girls that are better at this tennis sport than you guys.”

While Birger and Llinos had their time poking fun at each other Alwyn looked over at Dagmar and Ástríður, “That reminds me, so which one of you are going to take tomorrow’s win?” The two that he asked the question to looked at each other, “Suppose we are just going to have some fun seeing who the better one is on the court this time around. If Llinos is able to win I already have the top spot pretty secured, can not do much better than that now.” Dagmar answered.

“Suppose we should have some actual fun now and dance.” Dagmar eventually brought up after everyone got settled into the establishment’s set up that they were in. “You know how to dance? To this kind of music?” Säde asked a little bewildered.

“Guess I learned a move or two on the courts and watching these other people have a time of their life.” Dagmar replied and laughed.

With a fun long night out of the way it took a little longer for most the team to get up in the morning, though once they were up they were ready to go and give it their best. They would only get one more day out and about if they wanted to do anything before having to pack up and head home after their long vacation in the nation of Ceni, but for the meantime their goal was to try and secure the finals matches for themselves and win the big prize to wrap up this part of their adventure. After everyone was ready to go they headed off to what would hopefully be another great day for them on the courts, with Dagmar and Ástríður playing against each other they had at least one win for today already in the bag, it would just be up to the others to pull through.

Llinos was the first up for the day going up against big time New Gelderland player Andrew, one of the two that the team was well acquainted with on the courts by now. Llinos was already lucky enough to had not to have to go through both him and his doubles partner Liam, and was also able to get through Ardil without much trouble though a lot of work, leaving this to be the last hurdle to get over. Starting off things were already pretty heated, with both sides making quick plays to rack up their own score, leading to it being rather tied up for most of the set. After a few games had passed over like this with neither side getting that quick win they were looking for eventually a tie breaker game had to come in, one which Llinos was lucky enough to be in the right spot to take for herself to win the set. Once that was over things went a lot more in her favor, starting off the second set by taking a strong lead and not letting her opponent get an edge to repeat that first set, which in the end worked out well enough that Llinos only lost one game there. Going into the third set things continued to go unbelievably well for the Ferret, with her keeping the strong lead which must have broke the New Gelderland player, as they were unable to even get a single game this time around. Leading to Llinos winning the match with a solid ending after a shaky but well fought for start. And with that the team was able to secure the singles side finals all for themselves and that part of the reward was all theirs.

“How is it that you do so perfect in the grand slams but not in the other events?” Alwyn asked once that match was over, all he got for a reply was a laugh and a “I do not know.” from Llinos.

With that on the other singles match it was just Ástríður and Dagmar having a fun time having to play against each other, having already gotten to this point they both were doing well enough that losing would not hurt them at all. Even if either of them lost they both had the strong possibility of achieving their own goals without needing the win it took a lot of the pressure of them for the need to try hard. Along with Llinos having won her match there was really nothing to worry about at all at this point in the competition, the team had already won, they just had to get through the formality of which one of them would take the reward on paper. Ástríður was the one to start things off in the first set by taking a solid lead, leaving it up to Dagmar to play the game of catch up. Though after that it would be Dagmar to take the lead in the next set and have Ástríður play the catching up game, one that Ástríður seemed to do better with pushing things out by taking five games for herself and making Dagmar have to take seven to win the set. After that things slipped more and more into Dagmar’s favor in the third set, reversing what happened in the first set with it being her in the solid lead this time around. Then going into the fourth set while Ástríður put up more resistance once again it was Dagmar to keep a hold on her lead to win the match and get to play against Llinos in the final singles side of the event.

“Well seems like there is already improvement this time around from the last grand slam, Dagmar gets to play against Llinos instead of Liam.” Euan noted, “Should not be as hard now right.” He chuckled a bit, “Now it is just up to Llinos and Säde to not lose on the doubles side and things will really be perfect.”

Birger and Hermanni were up first on the doubles side facing Cenians Val and Jac for their chance at a spot in the final match, one that they were sure that they had in the bag given their luck so far. Though the two of them would get hit hard in the face in the first set, with them quickly losing what little lead they had and then losing the set in short order. Leaving the two of them to have to rebound quicker than they had lost in the first set for this second set to not crash and burn. They were able to pull that off luckily, giving the Cenians just what they had given just a few games before, going on to win the set for themselves and bring things out to a third set to decide the match. It was all that the Ferrets needed, taking advantage of their shot they gave it their all to quickly win as much of the last set as they could. It worked out in their favor, only having to lose two games before they got the winning game to take the match win. Leaving it up to Säde and Llinos to take their doubles match to make for a perfect day and event or not and just leave it super great, either way it would not ever get bad by this point.

Going into their match against Elia and Fia, the Cenian sisters, things would start off a lot like they did for their doubles teammates match with them losing the first set without much of a fight. The second set would not go much better for the Ferrets, nearly losing the match right there and then before they were able to find and opening and take it to take the second set win right at the end of things when they looked the worst. However unlike Hermanni and Birger the two of them would not be luckily enough to get to capitalize on this chance they had, and after a more fought for third set the Ferrets ended up losing.

“You left us with Cenians Perger and Ricpeer in the Terranean slam now you leave us having to face Cenians Elia and Fia. Are you just trying to give us a hard time?” Birger asked laughing after the last match was over.

“Oh you two did not have a hard enough time in the singles side, I am sure this will be no challenge for the likes of you two.” Llinos replied.

Roman tennis summary from the Cenian Open
By Maurentius Chalcocondyles
22 June 7526 AM/2018 AD

Image

Maurentius' sum-up of all the performances by Roman tennis players in the Third Round of the Singles and the Second Round of the Doubles at the 6th Cenian Open as the Romans' challenge in Ceni ends.

Singles
Elif Bilgin
vs. Llinos Cairistìona (Ferret Civilisation) 6-7, 6-7, 6-4, 4-6
Determined performance but just wasn't enough to match the stronger seed as her knee injury finally seemed to get the better of her. Returns back home to Anatolia but has given it her all and made fantastic progress.

Romans progressing to the Fourth Round/last 16: 0/1

Doubles
George Ehrmann/Franz Bernasconi
vs. Elia Xal/Fia Xal (Ceni) 1-6, 2-6
The gulf in quality became apparent quickly as the pair struggled to deal with the Xal's strong serves or match their intensity. A learning experience for them.

Romans progressing to the third Round/last 16: 0/1
