Hi! The WGPO (World Grand Prix Organisation) is not a tournament in itself; instead, it's the overarching banner for a group of connected NationStates single-seater tournaments. If you'd like to get involved, your best shot would be to sign up for the World Grand Prix Tier 2 (WGP2), which should be starting at any time within the next few months; I don't doubt that it'll be announced in this thread when signups begin, so watch this space! Just a note: most people would probably suggest you get started with roleplaying a driver rather than a whole team, since the latter can be a lot of work. That said, entirely new people have entered teams to great success (myself included), so don't be too dissuaded if you feel that you're up to it!

Thank you I’ll look out for that. How do I RP a driver without a team?

well once a competition starts you do some roleplaying about your driver, the goal is to look like a strong up-and-coming driver so people want you on their team.

So, ah, guys? Are we going to hold a vote for the host of WGP2 this year or what?

Sorry about that, somehow managed to miss you there.

The engine regulations planned are less about having a set type of engine and more about having a maximum power output. This is essentially just to explain why WGP2 cars have a lower top speed than WGPC cars and to make sure that talented drivers are noticed even at a team with lower budget, rather than ending up at the back due to being in a car with no grunt.
To be clear, there won't be any rules on what type of engine is used, so as in the WGPC, whether your engine is fossil fuelled, electric or hamster-powered, anything still goes. The power limit is also purely IC.

I'll give everyone until midnight June 20th UTC to register a host bid. We'll go to vote straight after that.

WGPC Tier Three RP/results thread should be up soonish hopefully. I had wanted to get it done last weekend but I've been a little busy. Watch this space and, in the mean-time, get yourselves acquainted with the scorinator.

Ditto WGP3 Alpha League. I'm not sure if some of you had noticed Alpha League original existence before I decide to retcon it. It will be retconned to include other Imperan League nations and maybe open to nations that demand. Less-powerful cars (a more modest chassis will be used) and a different method for scorination are planned. I'll disclose more about it when presenting the idea properly.

NOW, Some stuff related to my area, the graphics:

Audioslavia wrote:* Speaking of high bars, I've set a reasonably high one for hosting by creating lots of pictures and stuff and making things reasonably neat and pretty. I did this because I can create images quickly, have been fiddling around with Paint.Net for NS stuff for five years or more. If I wasn't already half decent at it, I wouldn't have tried, as spending so long on little things like that would have burned me out. What I'm saying, if a little pompously, to any future host, is not to worry about the bells and whistles and not to spend hours fiddling with photoshop or something if you aren't already a dab hand at it. The RPers are more than capable of adding that type of flair themselves. I don't want running the WGPC to be like the Olympics wherein the host is burned out for the rest of the year. Ideally, now that we have a halfway decent and semi-automatic scorinator, setting up the season should be pretty intensive but, after the first race, should be simply a case of reading some very good RPs and pressing a couple of buttons twice a week.
[...]
* I should have used the logos Lisander made last year for all of WGPC, WGP2 and WGP3. I'm going to have a play around with those soon.

As a person with a good sense of visual aesthetics (IMHO), I'm heavily supportive of visual stuff on NS Sports. It gives us a little bit more of realism. I recognize this as a way to improve the roleplay, and always give a little more bonus points for a post that look nice.

That said, as a graphic designer, I do stuff like it every day to pay my bills. And I know most of the people don't do this, so I think if one isn't a graphic skilled person, it should take a practical approach, focusing on the information. Everything that could be made with good old BBCode should be made with it. Great stuff may be done just with our formatting. Just take a look around and notice.

If I was the one hosting WGP2, and I was not a designer, I'd have only the following:

*The logo itself (and its versions). I personally would enforce the use of WGP2 logo on cars, by aesthetics and help in promotion in other forums.
*A header image to the series, to be used in every occasion with little tweaks. Just adding the text needed, like "Teams", "Drivers" "Circuits", "Featured Information", "OOC", "Midseason Tests", et cetera. Will work nicely. It would run smoothly even without it.

If you need help with the logos, feel free to get in touch, via TG or Discord.

North Prairie wrote:I would, however, like all the team graphics the same, since I want to design a nice chassis for all to see :P
Nothing to tire the host out though, of course.

Would be easy to non-graphics people if we had only one livery template in WGP2. I still have the one I designed for WGP2 Ignis Racing (image below). I've started mentioning KB Racing in my Bitten Heroes RPs, and I really wish I'd have time to open a livery storefront. But since this isn't possible I wouldn't mind releasing the blank image for it, and even edit a little to add stuff like the shark fin, lower spoilers, bigger or smaller tyres, or any possible stuff I can do in the graphics software.

But have the same livery template implies in the WGP2 being one-spec (at least on visuals) competition, and I believe it would not please some teams. It couldn't be the best option for everyone since teams itself have cars that should look different, due to its own particularities, and may not be interested in look the same.

EDIT: FYI. Vangaziland posted and soon after deleted its response, while I was answering its words. This post is a response to the deleted post.

Vangaziland wrote:Making the use of the WGP2 logo on a car model mandatory is superfluous. There is no need for any host to tell people how they need to make their car. One livery? No. None of this will make the WGPC better. Audio just said he doesn't even want the hosts to mention whether they'll put the little cars in for a season. Now we jump to one template and put image requirements of the player? Not realistic. If one wants to add to the story and make it realistic, they can write often.

I'm offering suggestions. Audio is free to accept or not any of my ideas, period. I'm not enforcing anything or saying "WGPO should have this". I'm saying: "I'm a graphic designer, and I think stuff like these could be nice in WGPO competitions, to help the people who don't have great graphic skills.

I said and I repeat. I PERSONALLY would enforce WGPC/WGP2/WGP3 Logo in liveries because I think is a good way to have people looking around the forums. Come to think of it: You ask something on GE&T for a livery, and he/she gets interested in participate too. He/she'll know where to search.

The idea of having a base livery does not make it mandatory. It's just a plain white image where people can paint their liveries if they can't design it from scratch. I even stated in my above post the reasons it couldn't work:
Lisander wrote:But have the same livery template implies in the WGP2 being one-spec (at least on visuals) competition, and I believe it would not please some teams.

And here are you, proofing my point. I already knew people would dislike the idea.

You could always offer the template and say it is a Lisander model for sale to teams. It is a nice model and it would be cool to see different teams using the same chassis or parts from time to time.

Let the bad blood dry, please. You did the same in eGP last year. I'm not interested in you ranting just because you can't design and I can. It's not like I do it for show off. I do it because I like it. My category should have nice liveries and logos, et cetera because I like it, and just because of it. Arguing here won't be good for either of us.

I may not do the graphics like you, but feel free to check last year's WGP2 for the images I worked up. Offering your car as the ONLY MODEL is not the same as offering it as an OPTION. Trying to force people to put the logo you designed on their car sounds more like an EGO BOOST for you. Keep it as an option instead of trying to force it. I stopped you from trying to force your will onto the eGP yes, because it was someone's independent idea that did not have to be lumped in because you wanted it to be. I have moved on and won 2 driver's championships and a constructor's title since.

Like I said, your pictures are nice though.

Just because you like to design doesn't mean you should propose we all design. If you like it, then you can do it. If I proposed that everybody use a Vannish Motors car, I would expect somebody to tell me off. Even if I used my render engine and actually applied myself on the postwork. You're trying to sneak one by and I'm just calling it out. Do not try to use the past to defend your point.

Since you want to bring up the past, let me remind you that I supported you when you were feeling down after you got robbed. And that was genuine. Don't forget.

I'm not forcing people to do anything. I didn't offered it as the only model. I just offered it. I'm not saying "YOU MUST USE IT". Read my words, more times if needed:

I still have the one I designed for WGP2 Ignis Racing [...] I wouldn't mind releasing the blank image for it, and even edit a little to add stuff like the shark fin, lower spoilers, bigger or smaller tyres, or any possible stuff I can do in the graphics software.

I'm only saying I wouldn't mind releasing it. If you don't want to use it, just don't use.

Vangaziland wrote:Trying to force people to put the logo you designed on their car sounds more like an EGO BOOST for you. Keep it as an option instead of trying to force it.

I'm not forcing people to do anything. I've already saying I'm suggesting. You are free to do the same.I designed it, but this isn't MY LOGO. This is WGP2 logo. Should I refrain from doing a logo just because you don't like the fact I did a logo? Maybe we should use that graffitti font? A logo is a statement from a corporation, enterprise or event. If you didn't liked my logo, go ahead and create one. It's not like I'm doing this to show off. Believe you or not.

Vangaziland wrote:I stopped you from trying to force your will onto the eGP yes, because it was someone's independent idea that did not have to be lumped in because you wanted it to be. I have moved on and won 2 driver's championships and a constructor's title since.

For the third time. I'm not forcing people to do anything. Megellan chose my idea for eGP logo because it liked.

Vangaziland wrote:You're trying to sneak one by and I'm just calling it out. Do not try to use the past to defend your point.

No, I'm not. And you can't accuse me of that. If you repeat that, I'll let on mods hands.

This was unnecessary and rude.

That was not rude. It was rude of you to say I opposed you because of the past. I know you aren't forcing exactly, but if your idea is accepted then we would be forced. But yes, we're not. I mentioned the fact that you got robbed to remind you that I supported you. You just want to make it sound like I have something against you or are jealous. Dude, why would I be? Like I said, I gave you my support. So I guess this conversation is over.

If that was all just for conversation pursposes, then good. We had a conversation. It might not have gone the way you wanted, but that's one opinion on your proposal.

*sighs*

I feel as the owner of the one existing WGP2 bid, I should probably have my say.

Were we to be accepted, we would probably use one of the logos Lisander knocked up for last year's season because they look good. However users being able to form their own car design is one of the integral parts of the WGPC and it would remain that way. There are a number of templates online that are very easy to fill out in MS paint or something similar, requiring no additional skills, so providing an original image will remain compulsory for a team application to be successful. Using the WGP2 logo on the cars is optional and would be nice, but it's not a major deal.
As for my graphics, we'll probably stick the circuit map up for each session and use the little car images if it's not a real pain to do so, but that's all.

There's no need to have a full-blooded personal spat about what it ultimately a very minor aspect of the whole WGPC experience.

Vangaziland and Lisander. You're both very important to me. You're great roleplayers and both have the sort of writing talent and creative mind that enrich every season of WGPC you enter.

However, there is clearly some kind of ancient spat between the two of you that neither of you can quite ignore. That's fine. You frustrate each other. This shit happens.

There's always been a few elements of 'you're only saying this because...' in both of your posts when you disagree with each other. It'd be great if you could put a stop to that, as the actual points you're making are fine. This isn't Modaudio speaking, as I have no modpowers in this thread. This is plain old Politeuptoapointaudio. Hi.

I'm on my mobile right now so I haven't quite got the opportunity to read through your posts. I'll do that later this evening.

Tossing my two pence around

From an in-character point of view, one-spec cars would make sense, what with there being much less money flying around the lower tiers in real life. From an out-of-character point of view, having one-spec cars and having every team provide a car design would probably be too complicated and time-consuming for WGP2 if users are providing their own images, editing a given template or otherwise. I would prefer tier two to be a little more open with regards to which users run teams and which people get the chance to host. It should be a junior formula in terms of ease of hosting as well as in terms of ease of entry. Less complicated, less regulated, a chance to experiment a little in terms of hosting, structure and roleplay.

Lisander wrote:I'm offering suggestions. Audio is free to accept or not any of my ideas, period.

It's not really a case of Audio accepting anything. This is no longer a case of Audio doing what Audio thinks is best and to hell with the rest of you. With the new system, Liventia and I both have an equal say in the wider running of the WGPO, as will the host of the next main WGPC season. Liv mentioned earlier that we probably shouldn't allow prospective hosts to bid on the basis of being able to provide bells and whistles like pretty pictures and such. We'll enforce that as a rule. However, at the end of the day, it's up to this community as a whole to decide which bid gets hosting rights. If, for example, Bid A is going with one engine for all cars, three drivers per team and outlawing oval tracks while Bid B promises any type of circuit, 20 races over 20 days, and welcomes any type of car design the community gets to pick whichever they prefer. If the winning bid goes against what I or Liventia want for WGP2 then so be it. It's largely* out of our control

Mattijana wrote:...providing an original image will remain compulsory for a team application to be successful.

I think this is fine for the main WGPC season, for prestige reasons and the fact that there should be at least one person around who would be fine creating a small car image for a user with a team, but for WGP2 I don't think it should be compulsory. Again, I'd like to see a lower barrier to entry. Again, though, this is just my opinion. Bidders can't use their ability to create pictures as a selling point for their host bid, but bidders insisting each of the teams makes some effort to provide a small car image should be fine, however I feel about it being unnecessary for the second tier championship.

*I say 'largely' because, if a host gets voted in who starts acting the fool, I think it's beneficial for everyone that me, Liv and whoever else is running the WGPO at the time have the opportunity to step in and throw them into the sun via some sort of no-confidence-and-lets-throw-them-into-the-sun vote. Also, while I'm here, I should say that I'm sure there'll be some point in the future where I see you guys go forward with a plan that I don't like and I'll get arsey about it. I would like to throw my hat in to the ring as to running a WGPC Tier 3 event.

We are now live with the WGP3 thread. Have at it. Remember: How you run your domestic competition is up to you.

Any questions or comments, let me know. There's also a distinct possibility that I've left out some important information.

I've posted the first of six reports on the Audioslavian domestic competition to get things going. The rest will trickle through slowly.

Hello.

I'm a returning user with a new nation, back in my time, I used to take part in racing a lot and I saw some good stuff going on here, let me ask some questions.

1) When can I join WGPC main championship? Are sign-ups open at this moment? Or will be open soon?
2) How can I take part in WGP3?

At the moment, the main WGPO Championship finished quite recently. Next signups will start sometime around December (loosely), but until then there will be a Formula 2 style championship (called WGP2), which is currently in the bidding phase (i.e. people bidding to run the competition). Signups for that will be in the next month or so I imagine.

The WGP3 is basically a domestic racing series that's affiliated with the WGPO, so you just need to post your domestic results in the WGP3 thread, like you would your domestic football leagues in the Football Newswires thread for UICA competition.
