Nah. I had the idea but it didn't get further than the pretty-picture stage.

Races for the series will be featured live on the BBC Sport website, BBC iPlayer and BBC Red Button.'

Formula E is interesting to watch. I like how they have to switch cars. Supposedly they're working on improvements to the battery to change this.

Yup. Starting this year they won't swap cars.

Anyway, what about we start WGPC host bidding soon? It might be early but it took us a while to decide on WGP2's host.

Before we set any dates, I'd like to suggest that a pre-condition to hosting is a reasonable level of familiarity with the scorinator that one intends to use - so, right now (unless anyone's got a particularly radical departure in mind), Audioslavia's scorinator. Getting used to and testing scorination is, on one level, what WGP3 is for; given that WGPC is the premier contest of the three, I, at least, would prefer it to go as smoothly as possible.

just here to second that idea

there’s no doubt WGPC17 is going to be different from the previous two seasons, so we should make sure it works and stuff. and make it as similar as we can.

also i really should be running a WGP3 league soon. i’ll be finishing high school in 2020 and may be available to host bigger things around that time.

I'm planning on a return to the WGPC for season 17; just a quick note for the OPs, though, it was actually me who hosted the WGPC9 season. It was originally planned to be Bostopia, but RL issues meant I took over before the opening race of the season.

Where does one actually get started in this? I see all these different threads of tiers, but I really have no idea where I would begin my program. I would like to expand my racing interests to this series.

Any of these various tiers is a perfectly good place to get started to be honest. The next event will be the WGPC proper which will be getting started in the new year. If you don't want to wait that long, there's the WGP3 which is the name for domestic racing competitions (similar to doing a domestic newswire in football). There's more details and links to the threads for each competition in the OP I think. WGP2 has just finished, so that won't be coming around again for a little while, however you're very welcome to get involved with that too.

The best way of getting going is to sign up a driver (and maybe circuit) and go from there as its seen as less of a commitment than signing up a team as well. The WGPC is probably you're best bet for doing that, but a WGP3 series might help add some background to that if you've got the time to make one.

Welcome! It's great to see NSSCRA writers expanding into the WGPC. I saw certain WGPC folk move into NSSCRA as well. Maybe there is a WGP3 team with an opening for foreign drivers. I also wouldn't mind sending a random team to a 3 league some time.

When the i-League opens entries in mid-December, I'm sure that one of our teams would be happy to have a Cassadagan!

What's an I-league? I am interested in racing, and seeing that in RL Lewis Hamilton won, as always, I wonder if this could happen to my driver/s.

I don't think it's possible for one team to have a ton of success or win all the time. There is a lot of competition. You should definitely look into the I-League and the WGPC in a few months though. The I-League is based on technology that the Nimbans may want to describe for you. But it's basically a developmental driver's league... Open wheel cars. The I stands for imagination.

Maybe you will become this league's Lewis Hamilton.

*stares at the nation that won at least one Championship in all of the last three WGPC/WGP2 events*

*raises eyebrow*

Anyway - yes! Everyone here, I'd think, is pretty used to Imagination by now, so I should probably make sure that new people such as yourself actually understand it. The best explanation that I've written is still the one given by Gertrude Thompson, my team's Head Designer (and general technical lead), at a pre-season conference. I've put it here, both so it's easy to find and read and because I'm still pretty pleased with it.

Now, the cars of Nexus Racing - the national team - actually run on Imagination but they're the significant exception to the rule. Imagination pools at the Imagination Nexus and there's only a limited supply, much of which is given out to the population at large; Nexus Racing are in a privileged position to claim some of the government's share for several reasons but in part because they're a glorified tech demo for the entire country, showcasing Imagination and Nimban innovation to the entire world. The i-League will do the same but the idea is to both government-fund but also put a hard limit on the budgets of each team (that limit being 1 million USC - 'Universal Standard Coinage' or 'coins' in layman's terms - or about 1.5 million NSD) to force them to come up with creative solutions rather than just throwing money at development. On a related note, several university teams have made entries; the Nimban UFS and USS have both thrown their hats into the ring, as has Vangaziland's Overglade University.

All of this means that just using Imagination as fuel is basically off the table. Moreover, fossil fuels aren't an option either; though an exception has been recently made for the WGPO (and even then, industrial-scale anti-pollution measures were put in place), the internal combustion engine is banned in the Nexus Wardship of Former Citizens of the Nimbus System. That means that most teams will be racing with electrical or hydrogen fuel cell-powered cars. Now, where Imagination does come in is that each team will get one Imagination convertor - basically a brain emulator designed to use Imagination like a thinking being would - to use during the season, as well as a small supply of Imagination. That supply is nowhere near enough to run a car on but could do any number of things, from giving a car a KERS-like boost (and a nice blue glow at the same time) to literally altering the molecular structure of the chassis during manufacturing to make it lighter. It's all up to you!

So, yeah. Sound cool?

So around this time last year I was getting teams confirmed for the new season. I think it's time to start preparations for season 17.

I was thinking we could do the main WGPC season a little later than usual. Starting just before the real-life F1 season, rather than in January. My head-plan is as follows.

Host bids in by January 20th

Voting in late January

WGPC 17 thread up in early February.

Opening race in March.

Potential hosts should spend a few hours getting to grips with the Racing Scorinator. I'm available via TG, in this thread, or the NS Sport Discord if you have any questions.

I'll probably take the season off from RPing for two reasons.
Firstly, I'm busy these days and, with my main character now having retired, I don't quite have it in me to sit and create another guy that I like. McPahan may have a role to play, but I'd ICly have the team's entry license bought out / leased by a newcomer. I will try and finish my WGPC3 season, though.
Secondly, I'd like to help out the eventual host with scorination. The Racing Scorinator 2.0 works, but one false move and it can fall apart completely. There's an ethical problem if I've got access to the scorinator, RP bonus figures etc *and* have a horse in the race.

Any questions / comments, fire away.

Right; time to get the WGPi on the road. Been putting things off for far too long!

Since I'm planning on having some extra-Nimban teams and drivers (Esmerel already has a place), do you think that I should a) put up my own signup thread, b) do the signups in the WGP3 thread, c) do the signups in this thread or d) do the signups in a new signup thread for WGP3, Audioslavia?

Sorry about the delay. I didn't see this post until just now. I'd maybe just have the signups in this thread to keep things simple.

No worries and thanks for the help with the scorination! (Might not be the last time...) I'll finish off my circuit images, then set something up.

The deadline doesn't mean much if nobody has bid.
